[138.5] NJ: Hello everyone a long time. Thank you all very very well
[143.54] Jack: And he sat next to me around my ottoman
[147.78] Jack: over a
[148.74] Jack: Analog mixing desk from the very beginning my darling wife tony
[154.34] Jack: Bonjourno
[156.74] Jack: And
[157.94] Jack: What an honorary guest to have
[160.74] Jack: the person
[162.58] Jack: Who invited us on long ago to the thursday night show.com. That's going to be live after this
[170.82] Jack: Uh, Dom robinson
[177.23] Stephen: And he hasn't sorted out his point
[181.87] Stephen: Pretty awesome camera there following him around the room. Yeah, right camera setup, but the mic's just panning behind somewhat
[188.35] Tony: Say hi with like, you know doing this
[192.19] Frank: I'm gonna guess that that's like a virtual pan tilt thing going on there. I reckon that's a
[199.55] Frank: Cropped in doesn't it?
[202.35] Dom: I'll compete on that microphone. You can hear me
[213.07] Jack: Never listens anymore
[216.75] Dom: When's the last time to do anything? Everything's on the thursday. Does he even fly anymore?
[222.19] Dom: I've promised myself. I won't swear and yeah, i've got some video from this week actually tony. Ooh
[227.15] NJ: All right
[228.59] Dom: There you go. I was just I think that's why my audio's broken because I was trying to work it out of pipe it into the feed
[233.55] NJ: Do you know dom i've got to ask are you still flying?
[236.91] NJ: Oh, that was a very very long time ago that quad that I built you in your house
[241.87] NJ: the uh mini
[244.51] NJ: The little um, there's a raggy. I remember wasn't it was it a raggy frame? I can't remember the fossil. Yeah
[250.27] Dom: No
[254.03] Dom: Jack rebuilt it again, but it's here. It's in there. It's alive. It's still there. Amazing. It's all my work
[263.23] Dom: It would collect dust if it wasn't um
[266.11] Dom: If it wasn't otherwise, uh recolored in time
[270.67] Dom: Does this look positively like 1980s to you now?
[274.35] Dom: I don't know if they've if they've changed, you know, they're probably made of titanium and and got rockets in them or something now
[280.83] Dom: But this thing's great. I love it
[286.19] Dom: Yeah, it's good it's quite well made you guys made it I didn't that's why it's still in one piece
[294.83] Dom: Nice colors you got there as well. I can find it when I lose it that way
[300.67] Dom: It's anti-grass
[303.95] Jack: It's all good. How are you all? Oh the budget for the Thursday night show is unbelievable
[312.35] Dom: I've just decimated it
[315.47] Dom: Took the budget down 75 over the last year by getting rid of the old chat room and moving to discord
[323.15] Jack: I miss rumble talk to be honest. It was nice and fast
[328.03] Tony: It was nice and fast
[334.27] Jack: I know like
[336.59] Tony: It's too long. I remember saying we should quit five years and we went on for another year. Should we quit?
[341.87] Tony: Should we get should this be on last night or should we carry on?
[348.11] Frank: Just spend spend all the remaining patron money, uh on pizzas or ldo now on saturday
[356.83] Tony: And then like lots of fireworks lots of fireworks
[360.51] Jack: nasty
[362.75] Jack: Um last night, I don't know whether any of you guys. Um
[367.31] Jack: Uh caught there was a there was a stream on last night. Joshua bardwell was on and uh,
[374.19] Jack: I totally derailed that podcast. I won't say which podcast it was but we were talking about
[380.35] Jack: milking pigs and
[383.95] Jack: Bags coming in milk in canada and stuff
[387.31] Jack: Sounds like you can't
[389.55] NJ: It's like a standard jack
[391.31] Jack: It's totally like bringing up stuff that bardwell. He was just like oh my god, who let him in like
[398.91] Jack: Mods muting. I was like shaking batteries
[402.75] Jack: You know like I was like slapping pigs
[406.11] Jack: You know with a bucket and they played that man. He like I just totally I got in there
[411.55] Jack: And now it's like the worst thing ever to happen to that show
[414.99] Jack: I'm, sorry. Can't if you listen to this, i'm, sorry
[418.35] Jack: What's been happening in fpv? Has anyone caught anything interesting? I've uh, i've seen kiss ultra
[423.71] Tony: i'm kind of excited for that what's that and I haven't
[428.03] Tony: Flown or looked at any quad related things in the last two weeks. Yeah
[432.27] Jack: so i've been i've i've sent a sent a message to alexander and um,
[437.23] Jack: he's the he's the guy who's been doing the
[440.03] Jack: a lot of development for the
[442.03] Jack: uh
[443.71] Jack: I can't I can't pronounce i'm gonna butcher his surname. Is it fed
[447.63] Jack: draw
[449.15] Jack: Fedro. It's definitely not that I don't know
[452.75] Jack: I'm, just sorry. I don't know
[455.15] Jack: Explain it. He he's the guy who's kept kiss
[459.77] Jack: development kind of going sort of like the software sort of things so he's he's added new
[465.71] Jack: Features like you know the ability to you know, he's sort of like added crossfire. He's added uh ghost support even to the v1
[474.75] Jack: Uh patreons have now have access to return to home
[478.43] Jack: So if you're a patron of his, uh, I think we could maybe put his patron in the chat
[483.39] Stephen: And it's hard to write all this stuff from scratch, right?
[485.47] Stephen: Because the license of beta flight doesn't allow people just to go and nick code out that
[490.59] Stephen: So it's all for all his work. That's impressive
[493.87] Tony: Um, that is pretty good. I have got one
[497.39] Tony: Uh kiss that I wouldn't mind having returned home on so that would be quite good
[503.79] Tony: Quite interesting. What else has he done?
[506.35] Jack: Um, so yeah, if you're if you're a patreon
[510.67] Jack: For him that gives you gives you access to that and he's kind of he's done a lot of
[517.07] Jack: A lot of dev work and he's basically set up a
[520.99] Jack: uh discord and
[523.95] Jack: Um
[525.31] Jack: Hang on just looking kiss
[527.31] Jack: Have you invited him on the show yet? Jack? Yeah, i've sent him a message, but I just need him to
[532.83] Jack: You need someone else to send him a message. Yeah, I just need him to sign off on a date
[537.87] Jack: But essentially he's kind of like reject the with permission from kiss
[543.55] Jack: the
[544.99] Jack: Kiss flight controller and it's in a h shape
[548.43] Jack: but it's got uh, it's got a connector, you know for
[553.79] Jack: um
[556.19] Jack: Uh for the four in one eses with the telemetry and everything
[560.67] Jack: And uh, it's a it's the better h7. I believe
[566.11] Stephen: What's he doing with that extra power?
[568.43] Jack: I've i've got no idea i've been trying to keep up with the discord. I'm just opening my discord now
[577.63] Stephen: On the
[578.75] Stephen: We're talking about dumping a whole load of extra filtering and stuff in there
[581.87] Stephen: Because you suddenly got vastly more cpu than you had with the old f4 boards or even f7
[588.03] Jack: Yeah, I mean the uh, the you know, the kiss
[591.95] Jack: um has already got
[595.63] Jack: As you know, uh, the kiss v2 already had the whole
[600.27] Jack: um
[602.59] Jack: Uh f7 chip on there. Anyway, definitely flew better than the f1
[607.95] Tony: but f3
[609.55] Jack: Yeah, so
[610.99] Jack: You've got like so much power there
[613.71] Stephen: You're just going to see those the same filtering but with less delay basically until they chuck more features into the code
[620.03] Jack: I'm just trying to
[622.59] Jack: Hang on. I will share
[625.23] Tony: Are they still keeping it simple?
[628.91] Stephen: Yeah, unless you're a developer. Yes, right. I doubt it's simple from his perspective
[633.55] Tony: Well, probably not from his perspective probably a fucking there
[636.91] Tony: It's okay for me to do
[639.31] Jack: So yeah, there's the kiss ultra
[641.31] Jack: So it's got like a nice connector at the bottom
[644.27] Jack: That goes straight into that's your foreign one, is it?
[647.31] Stephen: Yeah, for one esc and everything is there another one on the other side for dji as well?
[653.63] Stephen: Yeah
[656.67] Stephen: Yes, if it's not true jack because does it have an osd now yeah, so we got we got two other pinouts there
[663.39] Stephen: So what's going on with those got one for the esc?
[667.55] Jack: Yeah
[669.55] Jack: There seems to be quality of life
[672.75] Jack: upgrades as well like
[674.83] Jack: Um for the receivers now at the bottom
[677.63] Jack: And then the buzzer pads are actually moved out to a bit further and not staggered
[682.51] Jack: And I don't know whether that's a type c connector or not. I don't know i've i've been trying to keep up
[690.27] Tony: Definitely need to try to get him on but if it connects straight to the esc and straight to dji
[696.59] Jack: Yeah, so it's
[699.63] Jack: like it's long-term patreon's
[702.59] Jack: first
[704.11] Jack: And uh, I I should have really like been a patreon ages ago because he sent me a few like tests
[711.47] Jack: like, um
[713.47] Jack: test, uh
[715.77] Jack: Firmwares to like flash and everything so i've been
[721.55] Jack: You know, so you're getting your hands on one of these h7 ports then jack. I don't know. I'll have to ask him
[727.31] Tony: Can we tell the the viewers or the listeners? What's the difference between?
[732.27] Tony: them two boards the latest board and in the h board
[737.63] Stephen: Well, you see h board it wasn't just the shape of it right this was a move to the h743 or whatever was the fancy cpu
[745.71] Stephen: And that from memory that jumps you from about
[748.49] Stephen: 216 megahertz on the f7 up to like 480 megahertz or something. It's just a massive bump
[754.51] Stephen: So it's just a more powerful chip. Yeah, yeah, i'm gonna get your filters calculated a lot quicker and let you run other stuff at the same time
[763.62] Tony: Does everyone remember saying we don't need to be faster on this and then yeah, no one needs more
[769.94] Tony: A year later we're like let's go faster
[775.62] Stephen: I should I think
[776.9] Stephen: Betaflight kind of made an impression when they moved to dynamic notch and all of a sudden people are like wow
[781.14] Stephen: This flies really well. How'd you do that? Uh filtering?
[784.02] Stephen: So I think maybe they're starting to get the message over and kiss
[788.34] Stephen: Yeah, kiss always flew nice anyway, didn't it? Well, I mean you've got the throttles haven't you still haven't solved that
[795.78] Stephen: When you punch up
[798.74] Tony: Yeah, there's a bit of that just don't punch punch the heart I will admit
[806.26] Jack: I'll apologize because uh, I should have saved here we are save this but
[812.18] Stephen: Goodness a ton of flash
[814.66] Stephen: Two mega flash what the f4 11s are stuck on like uh, or the f7s rather on 512
[820.18] Stephen: People are bitching and moaning that the f7s are actually running out of flash space
[824.34] Stephen: You've got quite a nice cpu but not enough flash on the chipset with the f7 2 2 so that gets you around that limitation
[831.46] Stephen: Because that means you you're going to have to you you've got the power to run features
[835.22] Stephen: But know where to actually store the code to run them, which is kind of a problem with this f7s
[841.66] Jack: No, you've got a barometer on there
[845.5] Jack: 8-pin bsc connector backward compatible with kiss
[849.42] Jack: not with
[852.7] Stephen: Just started messing around with with inaf and
[856.06] Stephen: All my flight controls have parameters. I didn't even know they were there until I popped inaf on what's kiss weather station
[864.05] Stephen: I've got no idea
[868.37] Jack: Look at that bl heli
[870.53] Jack: Through look at that. What what only uh two or three years behind the competition
[879.97] Tony: But it always flew two years better than behind the competition
[892.21] Stephen: I think a lot of these they get the reputation by being having a nice wide sort of default tune that works for a lot of people
[900.13] Curry: Yeah, this this graphical msd sounds interesting. It's like a sort of pixel thing rather than just some character set
[906.61] Curry: Yeah vector based isn't it?
[908.05] Stephen: So it can draw lines instead of just printing out individual characters
[911.33] Stephen: So you can get all sorts of funky things like the type of graphs that you see in heads-up displays on fighter jets
[916.85] Stephen: And then that and some other kind of uh co-pilot osd where you've got like nice scrolling bars up each side for planes and that
[924.53] Curry: Whereas would be to play as long as as long as you have it character by character
[929.41] Curry: The processor can draw it nice and quickly because that's always been a thing of the past. It was always a bit laggy because it was
[936.13] Stephen: Slightly behind the other stuff and that's going hand in hand with this canvas mode stuff that we're seeing now as well for um
[944.05] Stephen: Shark bite and also apparently promised by kedex to turn up at dj at some undefined point in the future
[950.69] Stephen: So they're going to move from having a font pack that you uploaded
[955.01] Stephen: Where you know, you've got to pick impact or normal or bold or whatever font for the
[958.85] Stephen: Osd chip to just being able to draw lines and with those draw the individual characters
[963.65] Stephen: However, they want to yes, how thick would you like your lines? Do you see it?
[967.41] Stephen: right
[968.61] Jack: Look at that
[971.49] Stephen: I think that the big one's going to be for stuff like gps because the little arrow where it can only show eight different orientations
[977.25] Stephen: Is kind of annoying, isn't it?
[978.85] Stephen: Whereas if you had a completely analog arrow where it can just like show any orientation that'd be nice
[985.01] Tony: No for me
[986.37] Tony: Putting it on my quad and then plugging one into the se and one into the dji is
[992.05] Curry: What's gonna win it for me?
[995.33] Curry: Yeah, as long as there's no soldering involved
[998.85] Stephen: You just gaffer tape it together he's good
[1001.41] Stephen: I've installed a bunch of vistas and I am thinking like why the hell didn't they put that connector on the vistas?
[1007.89] Stephen: They've just got the pads. They could have just put one of those little jst connectors on the vesture that would have
[1013.65] Stephen: Saved so much stress
[1016.93] Stephen: Always put it in an awkward orientation. Don't you that vista?
[1019.65] Stephen: It's always like parked in the back of the quad bumped up against something. That's just a pain to do anything
[1024.61] Jack: That's what happens when you give your money to dji and they don't care
[1028.85] Curry: right
[1030.13] Curry: There's a good segue here
[1031.89] Curry: richard warrick says
[1033.97] Curry: Elrs seems to be a big thing at the moment with loads of new modules and receivers
[1037.89] Curry: I have been dealing with express lrs this week
[1041.49] Curry: And I've hit every known problem and some unknown problems
[1045.33] Curry: In the entire world as far as I can figure i've got a bag of elrs crap here
[1052.37] Frank: I think there's there's been a few reviewers, right?
[1055.49] Frank: Like you've you've gone through this this struggle pain. That's not the only one
[1060.53] Frank: Uh, I think andy has also been going through it as well. I think it was andy
[1064.21] Curry: Yeah, I I talked to his buddy phil because he hit one of the same problems as me
[1068.29] Curry: We were dealing with this thing called the namino module, which is the worst thing to try and say
[1074.61] Curry: When you're filming yourself probably sounds a lot easier in chinese
[1078.45] Curry: I'm getting a number of times i've said namin and just turn into an idiot
[1083.57] Stephen: Off the scale also that thing that apparently has been on sale in mainland china for like two months or so
[1089.01] Stephen: The manufacturer says so how the hell has no one found this yet?
[1093.73] Curry: The problem as far as we can tell
[1095.97] Curry: Every manufacturer other than happy model that's releasing hardware
[1099.97] Curry: Does so without testing any of the features whatsoever or writing any documentation?
[1105.25] Stephen: And the after sale support consists of hiding their business address and phone number as best as they can
[1110.45] Curry: Yeah, there's no reason the website the website says
[1114.13] Curry: Failure to load or something weird like that. Like there's an error in there. There's an error so bad in their html
[1119.89] Curry: It refuses. So the nimnimo module see um is happening already
[1125.17] Curry: Doesn't have regular wi-fi but they don't tell you that because there's no instructions. It has this thing called a backpack
[1131.65] Curry: Wi-fi where you have to log into it in order to give it the details of your wi-fi network and it jumps onto there
[1137.81] Curry: And then what you should be able to do is drop one of the binary files on it to flash the firmware flashing the firmware is
[1143.41] Curry: Reasonably important because you'd like to get your bind phrase in which that means you don't have to press buttons to bind
[1149.09] Curry: But when you do this, it turns out it overwrites the bootloader
[1153.49] Curry: And uh sort of basically bricks it or or the term the term soft bricking has been
[1159.81] Curry: Invented for this which is fine
[1163.97] Stephen: One version of the firmware to the module verified it worked and then just assumed everything else was fine
[1168.93] Stephen: Shipped it and then realized as soon as any one person upgraded they would brick them up
[1173.17] Stephen: Well, not brick but they leave their module and non-functioning state and have to redo the upgrade
[1177.57] Curry: There's very helpful debug messages saying updating module
[1181.57] Curry: Verify module update complete and then all the leds go out and the lewis script doesn't work anymore
[1186.69] Stephen: This is fantastic. We've successfully written the image to the wrong location on the module. We can no longer talk to the module upgrade complete
[1194.53] Curry: So yeah
[1195.65] Curry: Quick reviews these days are now taking
[1198.21] Curry: 20 to 30 hours of talking through discord. Hang on. I did this and this happened
[1204.45] Frank: I am i'm looking forward to
[1207.09] Frank: Because hopefully we're having painless on next week
[1209.49] Frank: Uh, i'm looking forward to all the comparing notes on the express lrs
[1217.41] Curry: So I did actually call him up when I saw he had the bfbv stuff and said have you opened it yet?
[1221.81] Curry: And he says no, I said oh
[1223.81] Curry: Mine doesn't work and did this just in case
[1226.77] Stephen: Yeah, I was on the discord asking about something completely different and then sort of curry kitten up here and like oh
[1231.81] Stephen: I wonder what he's talking about. Oh, yeah, this sounds a lot like uh,
[1234.93] Stephen: Alex kim's review with exactly the same problem where he was just like oh, but stop working
[1240.13] Stephen: But my install looks like this that that's my module
[1243.81] Stephen: It's just fully internal and this tiny gamepad radio and aboard it diy off the express lrs discord went to the buy and sell listings
[1251.97] Stephen: found a guy
[1253.25] Stephen: who uh
[1254.37] Stephen: What's he failsafe fpv who was building the modules and he just put it together and I took the back off
[1261.17] Stephen: Put the jst plug that they use for the module expansion on the module plugged it in bingo and
[1268.05] Stephen: I've got the best support and best after-sale service
[1270.45] Stephen: I think i've ever had for like an rc product by buying it from a dude in the uk
[1276.53] Stephen: I am guessing that the people making their own modules as well on overstate tested it
[1283.01] Stephen: Took the module even though it was an internal one not a jrb module installed it on a radio and flew it
[1289.73] Stephen: And then unsoldered it and sent it to me. I mean you couldn't get any manufacturer to do that
[1295.41] Curry: It's just nuts people are quite excited about these ones
[1299.25] Curry: Because they have an inbuilt fan and can run up to one watt. So if you want to fly to the moon
[1305.49] Curry: This is apparently you think
[1308.93] Stephen: So context on this 100 milliwatt testing with wesley varti has gone to 33 kilometers at which point he lost
[1316.69] Stephen: Video signal with his ridiculous giant video array that he's got
[1321.01] Stephen: And couldn't his plane wasn't able to fly any further than that. So 33 kilometers on 100 milliwatt
[1327.01] Stephen: Okay, it's like a logarithmic thing. So
[1329.65] Stephen: One watt doesn't get you come down a bit. No, it doesn't
[1333.41] NJ: Out of interest was that some fairly high elevation which is tbs is true. He's in a plane. He's on a plane
[1339.49] Stephen: So he's doing just clean. It's not tremendous line of sight. Yeah. Yeah, it's not like in a bando
[1344.21] Stephen: Obviously in a bando if you try and fly it through a car park
[1347.33] Stephen: You're probably going to be screwed up a lot quicker than you would be if you're uh, just flying a wing at
[1352.45] Stephen: 200 meters
[1354.37] Tony: Is this all legal?
[1357.73] Stephen: Well, he's not in our country. No, he's in canada or somewhere
[1361.65] Stephen: Well, i've seen his flights. It's a legal in terms of
[1364.21] NJ: In this country
[1369.57] NJ: Such a politician's answer well, it's well, it's in another country
[1375.57] Curry: Who knows what those crazy laws are out there
[1379.89] Jack: They're all mad out there it's fine. Yeah, i'm really part of the world
[1386.45] Frank: I like uh in in the chat. We've got nomskull saying crossfire all the things
[1391.65] Frank: Son and dad fpv saying I love my spectrum
[1394.61] Frank: We've got clive fpv saying bring back 35 megahertz
[1397.65] Frank: and I do know a couple of people who
[1400.61] Frank: like have been out the hobby for like
[1404.05] Frank: 30 years or something and still have the 35 megahertz radio
[1407.89] Frank: And when it speaks to me going like oh, i'm gonna i'm gonna get a model back out again
[1411.49] Frank: And i'm gonna fly again and is is this still gonna work? It's most for 35 megahertz
[1415.73] Frank: Is that still like illegal and a louder? Is there a lot of noise on 35 megahertz? I'm like god knows
[1421.09] NJ: I don't think anyone uses it. It's probably it's probably cleaner than the cleaner than it's ever been because yeah
[1426.85] NJ: Actually, no one's on 35 megahertz. Exactly
[1433.09] Stephen: That is a receiver in heat shrink
[1436.29] Stephen: That's the size you're looking at fully installed in heat shrink
[1440.45] Stephen: uh
[1442.29] Stephen: For the listeners on the podcast i'm holding up a happy model ep2. That's the antenna that will stripe you bit
[1447.81] Stephen: You can see there. Got my happy model pp
[1451.17] Stephen: Is that the ceramic thing? That's the ceramic one. So that's a little stripy sandwich. You can see there. Looks like a little batonberg
[1457.17] Frank: That's the antenna. Yeah, it looks like you've taken
[1460.53] Frank: Bertie pass it's all sort and stuck it to a black
[1464.69] Frank: postage stamp
[1466.69] Tony: Put it in the oven for 20 days
[1469.73] Curry: So I think the story with elrs is it's quite exciting
[1474.21] Curry: But there are limitations at the moment. It's
[1477.81] Curry: these manufacturers rushing stuff out and not
[1480.53] Curry: testing it whatsoever
[1483.01] Curry: And uh screwing it all up for people. But yeah, there's the cheapest one in the ludes too. There's there's if you want more than four
[1490.21] Curry: Channels of full resolution right now. You haven't got them
[1493.41] Curry: because
[1494.21] Curry: The way they go for ultra ultra low latency is like you can have your four channels of full resolution
[1498.93] Curry: And then we'll have a couple of channels, which is like
[1502.05] Curry: Well, that's Caroline
[1503.97] Curry: a two person a two position switch literally
[1507.41] Curry: And then the other channels are like six positions depending what you do and but they're around robin
[1512.29] Stephen: So there's an evolution in this because you can literally trace it from just racers using it to people getting pissed off at racers
[1518.61] Stephen: Just designing it for them adding more features
[1520.29] Stephen: So originally there were one bit switches each switch was either on or off
[1524.45] Stephen: Well, because you only need to arm or disarm and then if you crash, you go and pick up your quad
[1529.65] Stephen: So that was people were saying what this is crazy. We can't use this and but it's
[1535.09] Stephen: This is a crazy new hybrid eight thing. It's cool
[1537.73] Stephen: And yes, you've got hybrid eight and that means your arm switch which is on
[1541.41] Stephen: Um your fifth channel
[1543.25] Stephen: Orcs one that gets sent every time you send an update same as the gimbals and everything else is rotated like curry was saying around robin
[1550.13] Stephen: So you get six switches which can act as three position and you get one on the end. That's like a 16 position
[1557.01] Stephen: um
[1558.61] Stephen: Then someone has also complained this wasn't enough very valid points like what about head tracking what about planes
[1565.01] Stephen: What about all the other people enjoying this and saying we want the range we want these cheap modules
[1570.69] Stephen: Yeah, I just bought two this week from a uk seller for under a tenor each from unmanned tech
[1575.25] Stephen: There were nine pound 95 for those ep2s worth worth grabbing a couple
[1580.21] Stephen: um
[1581.73] Stephen: And so there's a pr in there at the moment that takes this and actually does round robin on full range or full range ish channels
[1589.09] Stephen: So you can go up from your 16-bit max at the moment to take four channels that are going to be a 64 or 128 position
[1597.49] Stephen: So it's not as smooth as you get on the gimbals
[1599.73] Stephen: But for a head tracker or something where you're just like move stop move stop move stop
[1603.73] Stephen: It gets you enough or if you're just doing flaps or something what you just want to move from
[1607.65] Frank: Still still not enough for doing throttle left aileron right aileron
[1613.73] Frank: elevator rudder
[1616.29] Curry: In the ideal what you want is choices you want i'm a racer. I want the one bit switches you want
[1623.49] Curry: I want everything
[1624.93] Curry: I don't care that much about the latency. Give me full range channels on as many channels
[1628.69] Curry: I want and then you've got a whole bunch more people
[1631.33] Curry: This is actually what I want is pwm
[1634.05] Curry: A non-list drsf stuff and another load of people saying actually I just want to have one wire
[1640.05] Curry: Going to an s bus. So I want a single wire protocol as well
[1643.41] Curry: If they can do all that that'd be fantastic. But of course, that's lots and lots of work which people aren't getting
[1648.13] Stephen: It's happening. It's a scratch your own itch. That's what they always say about software development
[1652.13] Stephen: Fixes happen because people want to scratch their own itch
[1654.93] Stephen: So what happens is you have a coder who is annoyed at something now and has the capability to fix it
[1661.17] Stephen: And they've got a jumping off point because everyone's done the other work
[1664.37] Stephen: They can stand on top of and then you can add a feature like additional full range channels for head trackers and stuff
[1670.45] Stephen: So I think it's going to happen. It's just going to take time to attract developers into that community
[1675.97] Frank: This episode was recorded in front of a live online audience downloaded and edited to make sense when it played audio only
[1682.75] Frank: Censored to please the itunes people hosted on the internet forwarded through to your podcast provider
[1687.49] Frank: Downloaded playing on your device and is now playing in your ears all thanks to our patreons
[1693.33] Frank: Consider joining them and you'll also get other online benefits
[1696.69] Frank: Find out more at patreon.com
[1699.89] Frank: Let's drone out. I want to know
[1702.53] Frank: Uh dom has this meant anything at all to you?
[1706.85] Frank: Any of this conversation?
[1708.85] Dom: I'm lost now. I was reflecting on how six years ago. I understood what you were talking about
[1714.21] Dom: And then it sounded like nonsense now, I don't understand what you're talking about, but it sounds really really knowledgeable and together
[1723.73] Dom: Six years has done something completely bizarre increased our bluff game
[1730.05] Dom: Up to enormously
[1732.85] Dom: But you've been flying them
[1735.25] Dom: I have yeah. Yeah, i'm literally just editing the video while I
[1738.61] Dom: Try to decode what you're talking about. Let me um
[1741.81] Frank: Should we give you a like a little while longer or do you want to share if you want?
[1745.73] Dom: I mean, I yeah, actually while you were talking there was a bit of video
[1748.69] Dom: I was looking at these would be the right crowd to ask what's going on with my mavic because i've got a
[1753.81] Dom: Where am I? Hold on?
[1756.13] Dom: It's do it's been doing something really funny and I was thinking it's because I keep flying in military airspace and I thought they might
[1761.73] Dom: They might be messing with my ram really trying not to swear on ldo this time, right?
[1765.65] Dom: I thought they I thought they might be messing with my um messing with my um
[1771.17] Dom: rf or something somehow, but uh, I don't let me see if I can
[1777.49] Dom: Get my windows switch between each other a bit and then do that
[1785.25] Dom: There you go, got a video editor
[1789.25] Dom: We've got insta 360 if I run if I run this I was flying up in the highlands in scotland
[1794.37] Dom: And if if that starts playing properly
[1797.41] Dom: Is it yeah, it's just the plane so i'm flying around i've done my drone assist
[1802.45] Dom: Drone assists given me a good thumbs up that I can fly here apart from the fact it's military airspace
[1807.81] Dom: But that's all right
[1809.89] Dom: As long as there's not a no tam up
[1811.49] Dom: So i'm thinking that's friendly they're much nicer than the frickin national trust so um, I can fly
[1817.73] Dom: So I took it up and it very interesting every time I pushed it over a hundred meter. Uh, what is it?
[1822.85] Dom: I've got to make sure I get the numbers right over a hundred meters. It did that
[1826.61] Dom: My mavic which should be flying nice and level
[1830.37] Dom: All of a sudden rolls to the right
[1833.09] Dom: and then
[1834.61] Dom: It sort of at random intervals. It starts doing it at other times
[1837.81] Dom: But it happened in a few spaces which were pecksa regulated and that was the only association I could come up with
[1844.13] Stephen: Which I thought looks like it's had to make some rapid change in direction and you're seeing that acceleration in the camera tilt, right?
[1850.53] Frank: Yeah, how windy was it?
[1852.77] Dom: It doesn't look very windy, right?
[1854.77] Dom: So the nice the nice
[1858.05] Dom: Is it a mavica mavica yeah mavica
[1860.21] NJ: Yeah, because I have one I sold mine in the end
[1862.69] NJ: But mine did a did a similar thing and what it was it was where it was trying to correct itself for external forces
[1871.17] NJ: like wind
[1872.45] NJ: And it basically it overbanked past the gimbal limit and so the gimbal followed it for a second amount of degrees
[1879.01] NJ: So it was more likely to be that it might have been there that it had to just correct
[1884.29] Stephen: So you've got gusts going to like five or ten mile an hour and then there's a 20 mile an hour dust and it just has to like hard back into it
[1891.17] Dom: I didn't really check the wind that night because it wasn't it was just
[1896.29] NJ: Similar thing that was what I observed
[1897.89] NJ: So I think it's it's most likely it was that or it might have been a little bit of a level of wind shear where
[1903.65] NJ: where you've got a bit higher and
[1905.33] NJ: There was a channel of air where it was just a little bit more a little bit could have been rotor off the back of a
[1911.17] NJ: Nearby cliff or anything that just if this doesn't mess it all up this this flight
[1915.89] Dom: It was probably not going to come through on the screen capture was beautiful
[1920.93] Dom: But until until I went
[1923.57] Dom: Uh, so I come around the head go trying to do a nice in scottish highlands right up in the northwest last week
[1929.81] Dom: And um, I did a corkscrew up off this building just manually
[1934.85] Dom: Um, and I didn't really think about that low cloud which you can just see at the top there
[1940.37] Dom: Um, and I didn't and I didn't think about that with the the temperature drop and the wind speed that was going on at about
[1946.05] Dom: Whatever peak height you you guys probably remember. I like to push the thing right as high as I can really
[1952.05] Dom: Obviously no more than 400 feet. No, no exactly to the limit of whatever it should fly
[1959.97] Dom: But but I was winding around here without really thinking more about the castle than about wind speed
[1965.65] Dom: Um and around about this point it did the tilting thing again
[1969.73] Dom: Um, you'll you'll see and this i'm pretty sure was wind
[1973.89] Dom: Uh, where was it?
[1976.29] Stephen: And bear in mind it might have been wobbling around like crazy
[1979.17] Stephen: But you're within the extent that the gimbal allows and then all of a sudden you get the gimbal limit and it's visible
[1984.29] NJ: Yeah, so I might mine did it dom. Honestly, especially where you are there where you're going to get things like
[1990.61] NJ: Yeah
[1994.69] Dom: I lost it
[1997.33] Dom: I'm bringing that in. Um, it must be the wind because I couldn't get it level. I feel a bit out of control here
[2003.49] Dom: I'm going to bring that into me
[2005.49] Dom: Oh
[2019.49] Stephen: You need to build a nice big powerful like seven centigrade
[2024.37] Stephen: I was just plowing through the clouds
[2026.85] Dom: Yeah
[2027.09] Dom: Well, I I should have had the the racer really and just flown it straight through i'm sure
[2032.13] Dom: Many many other flights would have just enjoyed properly flying fpv around this thing
[2035.89] Dom: But there was actually quite a group of people there and I didn't want to get close but I panicked
[2041.01] Dom: And so I thought the best way to get back to me
[2043.09] Dom: I'm the other side of the castle from where we are the best way to get back to me is to go low
[2046.77] Dom: As quickly as possible and get out of that wind stream
[2050.21] Dom: Um and get straight back to me over land, which unfortunately did mean
[2053.89] Dom: That i'm i'm gonna have to go right through the castle. Yeah, i'm on sport right now
[2059.01] Dom: I switched to sport mode. So it should be able to do what 50 miles an hour or something
[2063.73] Dom: There is a bit of wind then. Yeah. Yeah, I think the wind's for you
[2068.85] Dom: And um, unfortunately what I should have done is just since I had to drop down
[2073.33] Dom: Yeah, and I could see the people and I was like i'm gonna lose this i'm gonna lose control or i'm just they're moving out
[2078.45] Dom: The way so i'm sorry people. I don't know but i'm gonna break the law and go straight over your heads
[2083.41] Dom: What I hope is more than 50 foot
[2085.49] Stephen: But get this exactly 30 point something meters
[2090.93] Dom: Different country
[2093.57] Dom: Exactly
[2095.89] Dom: Yeah, a beautiful place to fly the um, some of the this is this is uh, i'll just skip through it
[2101.09] Dom: This this all went up into the mist
[2103.09] Tony: Is this going on your tube so I can watch it?
[2106.61] Dom: Might do i've got to edit it down. I've got an hour of footage over a week and or two two weeks
[2112.21] Dom: The beautiful thing is in this distance you can't see the midges either. Oh, look. Yeah freaking midges, man. But yeah, then everything went white
[2121.65] Dom: It's just a fade and nature's fade transition transition to the next shot
[2128.69] Dom: The day of the shots was these guys, uh, if i'm if i'm lucky sorry to bore you with my holiday shots
[2135.73] Stephen: I don't know what it is yet again. It's probably better than a slideshow when you've got the possibility of crashing
[2143.25] Dom: Yeah, this should pan up in a second. This is just the most amazing
[2148.29] Dom: Look at this bugger. Look at that. Very pretty
[2152.77] Dom: Yeah, some love there
[2155.57] Dom: Unfortunately, unfortunately the national trust have got their hands on it. So unlike the lakes
[2160.69] Dom: They don't mind you flying up there. Look at that
[2162.93] Stephen: You get geolocked out of the national trust after you
[2166.21] Dom: Uh, not that that's been technically the issue but just in in terms of the principle of flying
[2172.69] Dom: The national trust I think um, I think don't do anyone a service by taking our land off us and letting us not fly on it
[2179.01] Dom: So I get a bit political about that
[2181.01] Tony: There's a lot of nests. No monster. I'm sure if you buy them you can
[2184.69] Tony: Yeah
[2189.81] NJ: National trust have some some land up by me and I it was one of the places that got shut shut down
[2196.05] NJ: Uh for drone supplies was what I don't know four or five years ago now four years ago and um, when I
[2202.77] NJ: Went on to their website for for the local area a place called show got spring
[2207.89] NJ: Um because they've put these notices up from no drones. There was a big banner advert
[2212.21] NJ: for
[2213.41] NJ: uh all about an article on the national trust site all about these brilliant drone shots that they got which I thought was just
[2221.41] NJ: Yeah
[2224.05] NJ: Nice close shots of uh, you know various wildlife and i'm like, well, i'm sure the wildlife would have been fully aware of that
[2229.73] NJ: enormous drone you used to film this
[2232.45] NJ: But um, yeah
[2234.45] Jack: What can you do? Anyway, you're not having fun the end the national trust to happy
[2239.81] Stephen: It sounds a lot more you can't go into a gallery and take photos but you can go buy a postcard in the gift shop
[2245.49] Stephen: That's what it sounds like
[2247.73] Curry: They've got the same thing in the us and bear in mind the us's land is so big
[2251.49] Curry: But any any hint of a national park or anything like that? You can't find it and we're talking like
[2257.17] Curry: Literally thousands of square miles and like really the whole thing not just a bit with any of it
[2263.73] Dom: There's got to be a bit of case law which could stand up and say the amount of
[2268.05] Dom: It asked the national parks how much photo photography revenue and film revenue they actually make
[2274.45] Dom: Compared with how much tourism they get out of people flying drones in their parts
[2278.69] Curry: exactly and and like
[2281.41] Dom: Far more income from people like us going up there and flying safely in a place where there aren't too many people around to
[2287.01] Dom: Knock out with a drone
[2291.81] Curry: It's really quite empty of people because it's so
[2294.85] Curry: It's ridiculously hot for most of it
[2297.49] Curry: Although I didn't have that sort of squeaky bum moment with my mavic when I was close to there not in there
[2302.45] Curry: Because I think it got so hot
[2305.09] Curry: That it it's literally like the the screen on my phone started like glitching out and stuff
[2310.05] Curry: I was like, oh, that's not good
[2311.33] Curry: I better bring it back and I touched it and it's like ow
[2314.45] Curry: The entire body of the quad was just burning the frying egg on it at that point
[2319.57] Curry: The weird thing is cold don't fly in hot it it's just just right is where you you want your mavic
[2325.01] Frank: Don't fly it too windy. Don't fly it too
[2329.41] Stephen: I was just going to jump in there quickly and say um, the weird thing is that they don't want people like you to take expensive
[2335.97] Stephen: Photography and flying equipment up there and take beautiful photographs, but and then sell it
[2340.93] Stephen: Work for the british tourist board like government departments. They've got no budget to do this
[2345.81] Stephen: They're struggling to rekindle the tourist industry
[2348.77] Stephen: After lockdown and to get things back up and running and areas that have been completely starved of tourism and people's livelihoods have gone
[2356.21] Stephen: down the pan
[2358.13] Stephen: They don't have a budget to go and film stuff
[2361.09] Stephen: But they don't want you to go up there and post something on instagram showing how beautiful the scottish islands are either. So it's
[2366.93] Stephen: Crazy, isn't it?
[2370.21] Dom: So I think pexa pexas the way forward that was a really good discovery in my little drone assist app going red flag red flag
[2376.53] Dom: Read the small print. Oh, how interesting as long as there's not a note. Am I can fly?
[2381.73] Frank: Very good. Um pexa is the practice and exercise area, right?
[2388.29] Dom: I just don't know. I I didn't read beyond the drone assist. I figure it the less I know now
[2393.49] Dom: The more I can defer the liability to my drone assist app because if the drone assist app says yes, you can fly
[2400.37] Dom: Then off I go someone else's problem
[2402.05] Stephen: I'd pass on and if you get a couple of jets coming down on a low level like mac loop
[2406.69] Stephen: Then you may have some trouble with with wind shear again, but yeah, I did take
[2412.45] Dom: You know, i'd be more reluctant to fly something without all the external liabilities for you know
[2417.25] Dom: I can shut you down. I can geofence you and so on but once it's geofence like press all the buttons
[2421.97] Dom: Will it go up? Yeah, it goes up. Okay, it's fine by someone else
[2426.37] Dom: then i'll fly
[2431.25] Dom: Does that stop you from flying um, it hasn't once stopped me from flying even on uh, yes, anyway, we'll stop there
[2441.65] Jack: The only time that he's been stopped from flying is run or die street
[2448.29] Jack: Which is uh old reference to an old show
[2452.53] Jack: If you want to if you want to tell that story in barcelona
[2457.73] Stephen: Well, I think he knows it I think we're going back to the let's not incriminate anyone
[2465.17] Jack: The invite in uh, was it barcelona the run or die, uh
[2471.81] Jack: The place called that and you know you were invited to fly
[2476.21] Jack: there
[2478.21] Jack: You may have got a shot dong
[2480.85] Dom: I can't remember
[2486.93] Dom: Yeah, it's getting it's getting long in the tooth now
[2490.45] Frank: Was this before or after you were in the hospital jack just out of interest?
[2496.61] Curry: Does it kind of dementia if it's some sort of creative memory in a strike case? No, no, no
[2502.29] Jack: uh
[2503.89] Jack: Tom when you were by the way, this is
[2510.37] NJ: Uh brings back memories that does that's some gross from febri
[2514.53] Frank: Oh nice hidden valley
[2517.49] Frank: The spiritual home of lda
[2520.37] Tony: It is always will be the spiritual way when again look there. Did it go again? It did
[2527.57] Stephen: Was there some videos of tony flying his ex-class around here or something?
[2531.25] Tony: Well, it might have been more prop wash
[2533.89] Dom: I reckon there's a freaking crow following me around pecking my map
[2538.21] Tony: It did it. I swear I saw it
[2540.45] Stephen: You could just have got a slightly dodgy sc or something
[2542.85] Stephen: I suppose but you'd never know until you paid as much as the quads worth to have someone to look at it as well
[2548.37] NJ: Yeah
[2550.77] Jack: Buy a proper buy a proper quad with enough power
[2561.73] Dom: There you go, the fossil will will fly in all these wind conditions
[2565.01] Dom: Yeah stay in control, but the problem the problem is it doesn't have a big red button
[2568.69] Dom: Which will geofence it and stop me flying places. I shouldn't
[2573.81] Dom: So I can't defer the liabilities
[2576.37] Jack: Who who are you with?
[2579.09] Jack: Do you have a lot of spotters?
[2581.81] Dom: There's a lot of spotters down there on the right looks like the family they've been trained since birth
[2590.37] Curry: Well done don for being the other mac user here
[2593.81] NJ: Oh, yeah
[2604.45] Dom: It's just a host for a terminal prompt, isn't it
[2608.13] Jack: And belric's just on
[2610.13] Jack: Linux which is basically mac but free
[2614.05] Stephen: Yeah, mac's just bsd, isn't it bsd with a fancy gooey layer on top?
[2619.17] Dom: You're not on windows out there. Are you people aren't still using windows?
[2623.89] Dom: Yes, the room goes quiet when you ask that
[2631.73] Curry: Will make some sort of excuse that he needs it for dcs or something like that because it's plug and play
[2639.81] Stephen: These days when i've moved into windows
[2641.25] Stephen: It sits there and does about half an hour of updating before I can do a damn thing which locks out
[2646.77] Stephen: It's been a year since you booted me. I'm freaking out. Hold on
[2650.93] Curry: Talking talking of nj as we were there handsome man. We've lost him to the dark side
[2655.89] NJ: He's a heli guy now again, isn't he? He's he's gone back. Yeah
[2666.21] NJ: No, well the trick to that is to buy many more than you can possibly fly and crash any one time
[2671.97] NJ: No, i've been i was flying heli since I was a little little lad so those were always there
[2677.81] NJ: But yes, I have been flying helis more
[2681.81] NJ: uh recently
[2684.13] NJ: Um, so yeah, I will be bringing said toys to
[2689.01] NJ: um
[2689.81] NJ: Set events at the weekend
[2691.81] Stephen: Um, but what's got the pride of place there?
[2694.13] NJ: there's a few um, well, there's uh
[2696.93] NJ: Well, actually my fate is the middle one here the omp
[2700.53] NJ: Omp hobby who makes some very nice which is a higher model products, which are higher model planes
[2706.45] NJ: Even though they're a chinese company
[2708.85] NJ: why not
[2709.97] NJ: um
[2711.41] NJ: I have this little guy here called the omp m2
[2715.41] NJ: which is a
[2718.05] NJ: Uh, so it's direct drive brushless motor for the main rotor and direct drive brushless motor for the tail which in itself is nothing new
[2726.45] NJ: But these guys have done some really clever stuff with the flight controller
[2731.49] NJ: Um and have this thing called left
[2734.77] NJ: Left your talk assist system, which basically means that um because the problem with a fixed pitch
[2740.53] NJ: uh tail
[2741.89] NJ: Uh one that where you can't vary the pitch is
[2744.61] NJ: The only way they could they can obviously blow in one direction which allows you to you're in one direction
[2749.09] NJ: But if you want to you're the other way
[2750.85] NJ: All you can do is slow this down and allow the main rotor
[2754.29] NJ: To add torque or the main rotors torque for that for the rudder to go the other way
[2759.17] NJ: and they basically coded in where they use the main rotor to add torque to give you
[2766.69] NJ: left your
[2768.53] NJ: Requires a bit more explanation
[2769.89] NJ: But basically they've done some very clever stuff to where this tiny
[2773.57] NJ: 200 size helicopter flies phenomenally. This will do every
[2777.89] NJ: 3d heli maneuver. I can throw at it. Let's have the omp 250
[2783.01] NJ: It's the omp m2
[2785.73] NJ: Um, so m2 is 200 size 200 mil
[2789.33] NJ: uh road disc
[2790.45] Curry: So, yeah, I was most confused by in one of your videos you showed a helicopter crashing
[2796.61] Curry: Into the field and it didn't explode
[2799.73] NJ: What's going on there? It was that guy?
[2802.53] NJ: Well, how's that work? Myself? Elly's have come on
[2805.73] NJ: Myself and Sheldon mr. Drone doctor. We've actually this this is our own design this tail
[2811.73] NJ: Um, which we are looking into actually producing
[2821.97] NJ: One of the reasons most people don't like helicopters is incredibly expensive to crash
[2826.93] NJ: Um, for instance like this this big guy is a 500
[2830.53] NJ: 600 700
[2831.97] NJ: They quite regularly go into hundreds of pounds when you crash them this thing the parts are on amazon
[2837.65] NJ: They're super cheap on average this thing costs
[2841.01] NJ: Five to ten pounds max if you really smash it
[2844.53] NJ: But the first I say seven crashes. I had absolutely no damage to this thing at all. So it's a very accessible way
[2851.25] NJ: And of course they've also added in
[2853.89] NJ: A self-level mode which we you know, we all take for granted as drone pilots, which is just turning on level mode
[2862.69] Tony: I think I should have a go on saturday
[2865.65] NJ: I could 100 show you how to fly that on saturday more than
[2869.33] NJ: It's got it's got a rescue switch we're gonna have to have a queue
[2872.61] Curry: As long as we flick that this is tony that can't fly quad line of sight and you're gonna let him lose on the heli
[2878.69] Tony: No, i'll be next to him. I'll be next to him
[2882.69] NJ: Have you got a trainer cable? Well to be fair i've said for years I will
[2887.17] NJ: Help tony learn to loss properly
[2890.37] NJ: And it's from the school of helicopters. This is if you can fly helis you can fly anything. They really are the
[2897.01] NJ: The king of rc on in that respect, but honestly, they're so safe to fly now
[2901.25] NJ: You can fly them at really low rpm
[2903.49] NJ: Which is how when you crash them with those you do no damage
[2906.45] NJ: And with the safety switch in there, even if you get out of shape you flick it and it just writes itself and climbs a little bit
[2912.93] NJ: So yeah
[2914.93] Stephen: When you started mentioning all this clever stuff with the tail
[2918.29] Stephen: I kicked a light bulb in my brain and that was this talk of heli flight 3d
[2923.65] Stephen: And some guys a while ago on the omp 250 they were putting f7 flight controllers and running this fork of clean flight or
[2932.53] Stephen: Based off 4-1
[2934.21] Stephen: That runs for helis and they've put all sorts of like you were talking about
[2938.45] Stephen: fixes in there to compensate for the lack of strength or the lack of
[2941.89] Stephen: Ability to instantaneously change direction on the on the tail rotor. And so they're using the talk of the main rotor to account for that
[2949.17] Stephen: um
[2950.61] Stephen: They've got their own little discord. It looks quite interesting. There's a whole bunch of people
[2954.05] Stephen: I can go and pee helis with f7s stuck on the front
[2957.73] NJ: Yeah
[2959.09] NJ: It's been I I dare say a lot of the developing drone technology has had a very positive effect on on the heli side of things
[2967.41] NJ: for me, I think some of this technology jump has been as beneficial as
[2972.67] NJ: simulators were initially to
[2975.01] NJ: People getting into helicopters when simulators weren't a thing
[2978.13] NJ: You wanted to learn a new maneuver and you go out and you give it a shot and if you mess it up
[2981.57] NJ: You're you're spending two
[2982.53] Stephen: Yeah, I think they haven't had a rescue mode in 3d
[2985.09] Stephen: Like it could safely recover if you're flying 3d and you freak task. There's a lot. That's exactly what that does
[2990.53] NJ: It's exactly what that does. There's and all it is essentially is the level mode taken from how a helicopter on f7
[2997.09] NJ: What's exactly the same thing?
[2998.77] NJ: Um, but it has a few extra steps in as well. So as well as writing itself
[3003.65] NJ: For instance, it has to zero the collective to a neutral collective before it
[3008.21] NJ: Before it initiates the flip. Otherwise, we'll pile itself into the ground if it was initially hovering upside down
[3014.37] NJ: And then once it's level it knows to climb a few feet
[3017.41] NJ: Uh to get away from the ground. So there's there's a few extra steps
[3020.93] Stephen: But again a lot easier to get started
[3023.09] Stephen: I thought especially if you're the sort of pilot who wants to that must make it a lot easier to get started
[3027.25] Stephen: Especially if you're the type of pilot that seen people flying 3d on helis and just wants to jump straight into that
[3032.69] Stephen: Without spending several years flying backwards and forwards and replace some broken stuff
[3038.77] Tony: Six years ago, it looked really easy
[3042.53] Tony: Props and they broke
[3045.65] Tony: Things broke six years ago. Yeah
[3051.49] Frank: The other thing is when it touched the blade of grass all that kind of stuff
[3055.25] NJ: The other thing i'll mention just quickly. I don't know if anyone else has
[3058.53] Dom: Sorry, do they not know about it amazing?
[3062.53] Dom: Are they not wow, I might get back into the hobby
[3066.37] NJ: Has anyone gone over to or looked at edge tx yet?
[3070.13] NJ: Because i'm I sort of jumped on board with those guys and their discord and got chatting with them
[3075.25] NJ: Very early and their discord's growing nicely now
[3077.33] NJ: Does anyone know what it is or am I talking to blank faces?
[3080.69] Curry: Know what it is?
[3081.41] Curry: I haven't gone to it yet because it seems to have a distinct advantage if you're using one of the tx 16s
[3087.33] Curry: Because they've already implemented the touch screen stuff if you've got a non-touch screen
[3091.01] NJ: Well, the hardware is there the hardware is there but obviously
[3094.43] NJ: htx have taken advantage of and got it happening because they've been
[3099.81] NJ: But the pace at which they're doing it, I mean every week I update it and there's new fit
[3105.17] NJ: It's coming in thick and fast. But interestingly, um, and when I spoke to one of the the devs about this
[3112.05] NJ: Um, I said are there any other radios because there's actually if you look in their flashing tool
[3117.65] NJ: And the flashing tool does the bootloader it does everything you don't even power the radio on you plug it in
[3122.85] NJ: It because that when you plug it in is immediately in dfu mode and it just does the whole lot for you
[3128.05] NJ: So it's a much more painless system than how you would traditionally flash your open tx
[3134.05] NJ: You know doing the bootloader and everything separately
[3136.93] NJ: It's really really simple to use but they have and i've tested this because I have
[3142.69] NJ: My old review unit still up there the nv14 nirvana
[3147.41] NJ: Control they they've done a version of edge for that
[3150.85] NJ: So then they're bringing that back to life as well. But um, it's
[3154.69] NJ: It's built on very stable code. I've been using it with the helicopters on my
[3159.89] NJ: my tx thing
[3161.89] NJ: On that chap and it's been it's been absolutely brilliant. That's the touch in the face
[3167.65] NJ: Is definitely where things need to go for a radio that has complaining about the dfu mode
[3173.01] Stephen: But yeah, I found that much easier to use rather than messing around with multi-step upgrades
[3178.85] Stephen: Trouble with dfu drivers. I don't know for me. It's just always plugged in and worked
[3186.53] NJ: But that's the same subjective problem that you see people going
[3191.01] NJ: Everyone has their own personal battle with their computers and dfu mode regardless of the hardware. I think that's uh,
[3197.81] NJ: That's just that's just each to their own on that one. But um, yeah htx so far
[3202.53] NJ: I've had not one single problem with very very very good when you're in the final route again, then
[3209.17] NJ: Um, do you know what the one thing I will say about nirvana that I really like I actually love the feel of those gimbals those
[3216.77] NJ: Full digital gimbals. Um, did you see people have putting them into the tx16? Yeah, I read about and again
[3224.13] NJ: There's one guy on the edge tx team who is basically the nv14 guy. He's obsessed
[3229.81] NJ: He's built in support already, hasn't he? He has so you can actually take those gimbals chuck them in the tx16 and edge will
[3236.21] NJ: Get it all working. So, um
[3238.45] NJ: There's yes, I made potentially um, there's some seriously fancy gimbals. I was quite surprised to hear that
[3245.41] Stephen: No one else has used the same gimbals that the nirvana the mistake they made the big mistake they made
[3251.33] NJ: I mean you could go through a long list of mistakes that were made when it came to the underground fpv
[3256.37] NJ: I mean it was a they bit off way more than they could chew that was for sure
[3260.13] NJ: But the thing in terms of the big mistake with those gimbals is they made them see through with like red plastic
[3266.69] NJ: They just made them look so cheap
[3270.05] NJ: They looked like toy gimbals. They really weren't yeah, and that was that was the big thing. I think I think
[3276.13] Stephen: Temperature compensation as well a lot of people complain that the sensitive gimbals changes with temperature. I think the flyskite ones
[3283.25] NJ: In the divine are actually temperature compensation. That's the completely normal thing for whole sensors all
[3289.25] NJ: Have temperature of area will will I mean even if you look at the tx16 under a microscope you can see that there is
[3296.05] NJ: As the temperature changes that exact center point is actually always slightly on the move based on what the ambience. Yeah
[3302.93] NJ: But yeah, as you say the mv14, uh gimbals were
[3306.69] NJ: Very hard time. Yeah. Yeah
[3309.01] Stephen: I've seen people on edge
[3310.29] Stephen: Htx again complaining that there's temperature drift and they're trying to find ways to fix temperature drift and they're looking out
[3316.21] Stephen: Can we get the temperature out of the imu?
[3318.21] Stephen: Can we get temperature at this that and the other the mv14 just does it all in the gimbals?
[3322.21] NJ: Just a yeah because those gimbals essentially have their own firmware
[3327.41] NJ: um, they're very very
[3330.05] NJ: Very cool tech in there
[3331.41] NJ: But yeah, i'd be great if they continue to pursue it. It'd be nice to see because I know some people that
[3336.61] Stephen: Really enjoyed using that. I almost grabbed them recently if it hadn't been for the micro usb port
[3341.41] NJ: I'd probably have an mv14 this week. Yeah, I mean
[3346.37] NJ: They sent me three of them in the end, but they've both gone to other homes, but I kept one just uh, um
[3352.69] NJ: Just to in the hope that something, you know like this might happen that it'd still have some use
[3357.49] NJ: But I think it was important that someone like underground fpv did something like that
[3362.29] NJ: Because otherwise nothing changes if some people aren't just bold
[3365.65] NJ: Failing's all part of that progress, you know
[3369.89] Stephen: For a bit of a design revision because people have been taking that t16 chassis and just slightly tweaking it for many many variations
[3377.25] Stephen: And I think they stopped releasing new versions that kind of the end of last year really
[3381.73] NJ: And before that it was the the old jr's and before that they were based on the the futaba, you know, seriously old
[3391.25] NJ: Yeah
[3392.05] Stephen: Yes, it can be turned on if you really want it to it's still there. It's just checkbox under system settings shady
[3398.37] NJ: Yeah, but but yeah, it's nice when you see sort of innovation
[3402.13] NJ: Going on whether it fails or not. It's it's it's an important part of it for sure
[3406.93] NJ: But uh, yeah, so six years, what have we learned anyone
[3412.77] Tony: Learned that that last 10 minutes were very anal and a few people liked it
[3422.61] Frank: Well, i'm looking forward to seeing so many, uh of
[3429.92] Frank: everybody in the chat and
[3432.56] Frank: uh here on the call
[3435.04] Frank: Uh on saturday actually in person and actually going to go out and have a fly
[3441.12] NJ: I'm looking forward to that
[3443.92] NJ: And a drive
[3446.16] Frank: Awesome
[3450.16] Frank: Well, we're the in terms of parking we're going to be pretty
[3454.56] Frank: Locked out. So if you haven't already got on the list
[3458.4] Frank: you
[3459.44] Frank: Maybe send us a message and I can I can see what I can do maybe get your
[3464.4] Frank: a lift from an alternative parking some overflow parking maybe but
[3470.16] Frank: Yeah
[3471.28] Frank: Get in touch. But the people who have
[3473.68] Frank: All got their stuff sorted
[3475.68] Frank: Um looking forward to seeing you on saturday for ldeo. No celebrating six years
[3481.6] Frank: of ldeo
[3482.8] Tony: You're whilst talking completely
[3485.84] Dom: Alex that's awesome. I can't believe you've done six years. You matters and you're still talking to each other
[3492.0] Tony: Just about
[3497.52] Dom: Awesome
[3499.12] Frank: Yep, we've at least recorded something
[3502.64] Frank: Every week for that six years. It might not still be available. It might have been
[3509.28] Frank: Completely and utterly removed from the internet, but it was at least uh recorded probably out there somewhere
[3516.56] Tony: Maybe
[3519.36] Stephen: Shady's asking about tbs. Mambo. Um, I think the pr for that just came in to open tx
[3525.84] Stephen: So it hasn't made its way into htx yet, which is kind of taking stuff out of open tx periodically
[3531.44] Stephen: But yeah, that mambo should be supported soon enough
[3534.88] Stephen: And then there's some uh, I think there's some nutters in express lrs
[3538.08] Stephen: Who are obsessed with uh trying to figure out how the whole thing works and just reflashing it from tracer to express lrs
[3544.34] Stephen: But that's uh, that's more of a on the download project. I think because they're struggling a little bit to get the flashing tools working
[3551.7] Curry: Indeed yeah, the flashing things great. Yeah, people seem to want to put it on everything. So it's like can we put it all crossfire?
[3559.7] Dom: I didn't want to interrupt anyone. You're wonderful and I will see you again in six months or a year's time if not
[3566.66] Dom: Hello chattering people and uh, yeah happy sixth birth. They see you later. Bye
[3572.02] Stephen: Yeah, the instant that drops on crossfire that's going to be uh,
[3577.54] Curry: Give my life
[3580.34] Curry: Yeah for most people it's at least a way of using their r9 module again because freestyle seems to have
[3586.18] Curry: Well, just dropped into the off the end of the black earth, haven't they?
[3590.74] Curry: Let's face it
[3592.34] Jack: um, yeah
[3594.02] Jack: Right. I just want to say thank you guys for sticking with us and
[3598.02] Jack: Hopefully ldo has become
[3600.56] Jack: Interesting and somewhat informative as well as silly instead of uh, definitely silly
[3608.18] Stephen: That's wonderful guys. Thanks for all the time you've put into this already and uh privileged to be here with you
[3613.94] Jack: Oh bless you man
[3617.14] Jack: It's an honor
[3618.5] Jack: To have you and a pleasure and we learned so much
[3622.5] Jack: And it's great to have nj back. It's nice to have something really nice to look at
[3628.02] Stephen: Oh
[3637.54] Frank: The pile of like boxes of chocolates outside your front door you've got back from honeymoon
[3642.9] Frank: Have to explain that way
[3644.98] Tony: Come on. This is this is the coaxes i've got to the honeymoon. I've got coconut
[3650.34] Tony: bog roll
[3655.06] Jack: That's disturbing
[3657.06] Jack: Only the best darling
[3660.74] NJ: You know as in the reference is the coconuts to the caribbean, right? Is that where you were going? Okay
[3670.26] Curry: Taffy oh jones is honeymoon. Just the fact that tony's gonna go around say look sniff my ass. Go on you'll get a surprise
[3682.26] NJ: And on that note, yeah, i don't mind forgetting where i was for a second
[3686.66] Jack: Yeah, uh
[3688.66] Jack: Right, uh, everyone you've been listening to let's show it out for six years. Thank you so much. Thank you all our patreons
[3696.82] Jack: You know everyone shows up every week in the chat. I love you guys
[3701.3] Jack: Thank you. You have once again
[3704.42] Jack: Be joined by everyone's favorite curry kitten
[3707.06] Jack: Goodbye
[3708.98] Jack: Everyone's favorite wife of mine with a coconut smelling behind
[3716.34] Jack: I've been brought into my fly
[3719.38] Jack: You've been joined by our lord and master and the whole reason the show is so organized. Well, don't blame me
[3727.7] NJ: Okay, i might have been a compliment andrew rolled it
[3732.82] Jack: Just say bye
[3734.82] Jack: and uh our newest
[3738.02] Jack: most informative member steven
[3741.54] Jack: Cheers, thanks guys and the eye candy he's too sexy for his shirt
[3746.98] Jack: the the leader of the
[3750.02] Jack: Tom cats
[3751.62] Jack: Thundercats or whatever. I don't know
[3755.3] Jack: Squadron leader five yankee doodle 68 grief lords
[3763.94] Jack: What uh
[3765.54] Jack: What is it? Oh god butt pirate
[3768.64] Jack: wrangler
[3770.1] Jack: Enjoy tack
[3772.74] NJ: Take care everyone. See you again
[3778.5] UNKNOWN: I know
