[0.0] Jack: Hello and you're listening to let's drone out and special thank you to our lovely patrons that help donate
[7.48] Jack: So that we could pay the editor to remove the swear words and silly things. We say
[12.56] Jack: Massive. Thank you to Carlos campos art folk now, Sam Darma
[19.4] Jack: Mikey dread
[21.2] Curry: on with the show
[53.79] Jack: Hello and you're listening to
[55.91] Jack: Let's drone out
[61.71] Jack: Which runs this one I know
[65.03] Jack: enthusiasm is palpable
[67.39] Jack: You're listening to let's throw now tonight. We're excitedly joined by current kitten who's been out flying
[72.95] Jack: I'm looking at hornet porn
[76.19] Jack: That's right people
[78.67] Jack: We're joined by our Lord master Andrew. That's Frank. Good evening. And I am Jack bright to our fly
[85.91] Jack: Hello and welcome to the show. Hello. I've dropped my screw now
[91.59] Jack: I don't fit in with a screw and I've dropped it
[95.27] SPEAKER_01: What screws that?
[97.39] SPEAKER_01: It's a
[99.39] Jack: It's a really really small one
[102.15] Jack: But it goes in there. It's not just forever. No, I know
[106.55] SPEAKER_01: It's gone
[108.91] SPEAKER_01: What have you been working on or is it just a an orphan screw just a round
[116.63] Jack: It's for work
[119.79] Jack: I got I got the plates back and
[123.35] Jack: They didn't drill the holes out. So I'm having to every time I come here. I like fatal and
[130.79] Jack: Just pulling holes in aluminium just with a needle pile. Yeah pretty much. Wow. I'm just just being that guy
[140.23] Curry: Don't we have children in the Philippines to do this sort of stuff for you?
[144.51] Jack: Well
[145.87] Jack: Either my measurements are wrong, which I haven't had a look to see whether I messed it up
[151.99] Jack: But the last lie I had were fine
[154.75] Jack: So I think they just forgot to run the drill through these I'm not sure you could just like measure me
[160.43] SPEAKER_01: This is and if it's wrong give it back
[164.59] SPEAKER_01: Give me the right one
[167.35] Jack: Give me we're not playing for this. I don't I don't look I don't like it because they made they made a lot of mistakes
[173.19] Jack: I don't know you in this company, but
[176.35] Curry: Which company is this so we know not to use them for anything?
[180.55] Jack: Can't say
[183.67] Jack: You meeting person I'll tell you
[187.43] Jack: Are you coming up to pop them on Saturday?
[191.59] Jack: There's no fuel in Brighton, it sucks
[194.75] Jack: Not a lot of fuel around here to be honest
[196.79] SPEAKER_01: I'm yeah, I'm looking at that if it was a couple of weeks ago, I would definitely be saying no
[202.47] SPEAKER_01: I'm not going because I have no fuel, but I have filled up in that time say
[208.23] SPEAKER_01: Feeling feeling flush with fuel
[211.59] Jack: Yeah, I don't I just I don't fancy my chances
[216.99] Jack: And I really don't I want to go
[220.31] Jack: but equally like all my all my wings are all
[225.43] Jack: like I now have wings I
[227.59] Jack: Suppose I could fly them in manual mode
[230.59] Curry: Yeah, well that'd be more fun just to do sort of a pre
[234.75] Curry: Calculated course and like I'm putting it in auto mode and
[241.43] SPEAKER_01: Just wait for it to just just start flying off through all the like manned aircraft
[248.31] SPEAKER_01: Just over the motorway through the petrol station they still like I now have two point something, you know
[255.23] SPEAKER_01: I
[258.67] Jack: Feel the original medium. Yeah fell. Yep. I'm sat here fettling away
[262.51] Jack: It was embarrassing with our annual meeting. It looked like I was
[267.23] SPEAKER_01: Badger RC reckons. You should go racing with your flight test twin
[271.87] SPEAKER_01: Flight test twin. I think he means he mini Guinea. Oh
[276.71] Curry: Is this not one of these spec races where everybody has to have the same setup and was it just random well, it's
[285.43] SPEAKER_01: Open
[286.63] Curry: Spec, I don't know
[288.75] Curry: Open specs sounds interesting means it's it's a bit of an oxymoron, isn't it? It's like, yeah, here's the
[295.99] Curry: Situation we've got here's your setup. By the way, it's open
[299.23] Curry: So just change that motor out for something really big and see how fast it goes
[303.71] SPEAKER_01: I think it's anything up to 900 millimeters
[308.55] SPEAKER_01: Could be wrong. I don't know motor
[313.68] SPEAKER_01: and I don't think
[315.88] SPEAKER_01: You know it being sort of
[318.88] SPEAKER_01: again the first
[320.72] SPEAKER_01: wing racing event
[322.64] SPEAKER_01: Like proper wing race. I suspect this one probably won't be turning people away
[330.65] SPEAKER_01: Especially given that it's the middle of October in the UK in the southeast where there's no fuel
[339.57] SPEAKER_01: Weather is
[341.89] SPEAKER_01: questionable
[344.05] SPEAKER_01: Imagine they probably won't be turning people away
[347.01] Curry: Kind of an interesting time of the year to do it, but you know beggars can't be choosers
[351.45] SPEAKER_01: Mm-hmm. I think the main thing is the x-class event
[354.85] SPEAKER_01: Which is on this day all the people around the world
[357.89] SPEAKER_01: I said they're doing x-class setting up this very particular track and they're all doing the same time trial at the same time
[364.77] SPEAKER_01: Clive FPV in the chat says it's the Aussie's fault which sounds about right
[369.17] Curry: Yeah, if in doubt
[371.41] Jack: You get Tony to pick you up Tony Tony's got worst
[381.07] Curry: Miles for the gallon out of all Tony's got like a real-time fuel gauge you watch it
[388.55] SPEAKER_01: It's not measured in miles per gallon measuring gallons per mile
[394.75] Curry: really
[396.91] Curry: Here were you guys making fun of me and my potential electric car and
[402.19] Jack: You're like, oh yeah, because you're gonna join a cult and you're gonna be weird and not enjoy macchiatos weird
[410.07] Jack: We like you our sort of weird
[412.99] Jack: Where you touch of it, you know now you're gonna be I swear to God if I catch you getting to do that little dance
[419.79] Jack: thing I am gonna
[422.11] Jack: knife your tires
[423.87] Jack: Well, I hate that thing
[426.47] SPEAKER_01: like
[427.87] SPEAKER_01: Can you charge up lipos from your Tesla, is that a thing does it have like yeah, oh god, I've seen
[437.51] Jack: Yeah, yeah, you know that may on high, you know the person who hates us
[444.35] Curry: Try not to watch it because she hates us so much the the other
[451.23] Curry: The high and die and the Kia the new ones the the
[455.55] Curry: Ionic 5 and the EV 6 both had adapters
[460.23] Curry: Essentially because they're the same car made by two different
[462.59] Curry: Sister companies that you plug into the charge port and then you can plug like a regular free pin plug in it and run something off
[469.03] Curry: Your battery that way
[470.47] Curry: That was definitely different
[473.39] Curry: Because because what I got I got a load of comments because I reviewed some weird little power bank thing
[478.47] Curry: Which would like run free pin plugs and everybody's like, ah, this is pointless in any years time
[484.39] Curry: Everybody would just be charging straight off their cars because everyone will have massive batteries
[488.67] Curry: There you go
[490.51] SPEAKER_01: RC Lebotic's in the chat says my dad's got a Model X the 12 volt plugs come from the 24 volt
[497.11] SPEAKER_01: Normal car battery in the front
[501.09] Jack: which
[503.81] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, the one that the one that deals with
[508.29] SPEAKER_01: The one the one that deals with all the security stuff all the locks and everything
[513.21] SPEAKER_01: is
[516.09] SPEAKER_01: You can't get in
[517.77] SPEAKER_01: It doesn't charge that one up when it's plugged in at the wall at home
[522.41] SPEAKER_01: So if you just leave it at home for a long time that one goes flat
[526.29] Jack: yeah, and then
[528.41] Jack: You have to take your like daylight running lights out and then fish the pull cord that opens
[536.01] Jack: The bonnet in order to charge that yeah
[539.25] Jack: so there's a lot of people in the habit of driving their electric cars and
[544.97] Jack: then they they drive it in and then they
[549.21] Jack: Open the bonnet just so in the case that it decides to run that battery down that they can then
[556.77] Jack: Charge that battery to get in their car. It's ridiculous
[563.22] Curry: Welcome to let's car out
[565.82] Jack: Sure, fall. It's your fall
[571.66] SPEAKER_01: Magical pencil says you should just add an XC 60 in the glove box
[576.74] Jack: You we can't get into the glove box
[582.59] SPEAKER_01: You're right to repair Jack you just yeah your way at the Tesla
[586.91] Jack: Yeah, I'm gonna buy a black clap name it Clinton film it meowing at me constantly and
[593.91] Jack: Go vegan go to the gym a lot get an Asian wife and just complain on the internet. I am
[601.11] Jack: the whiter Lewis Rossman
[610.36] Jack: I love that man. I
[613.16] Curry: Can't go with become a vegan. I enjoy eating meat too much
[618.08] Jack: It'd be amazing cuz then I'd be on a high horse and Tony
[625.82] SPEAKER_01: Yes, curry you'd be you've been flying. What have you been flying? How'd that go?
[632.18] Curry: It was a mix of stuff
[634.18] Curry: I was I had a bit of a backlog since I've been taking time off while my knees been
[639.8] Curry: Hurty I I managed to finish building some review stuff
[643.84] Curry: But I went out on Wednesday
[646.4] Curry: To the farm if you've watched my videos occasionally go to a farm
[652.12] Curry: Where occasionally cows eat my planes?
[655.4] Curry: and I flew
[657.24] Curry: My old holy broke copies to having updated its latest beta flight and putting the TBS Tracer
[664.28] Curry: 69 in so I could test that out and fly it with the TBS Mambo and that was very good the
[670.44] Curry: the tracer works very well
[672.88] Curry: the LQ of
[675.36] Curry: 100 look like it was just gonna burn its imprint in my goggles. It didn't drop whatsoever at all
[680.84] Curry: I could ever go out to about a kilometer and then I ran out of space had to come back again
[685.84] Curry: so that was good my
[688.04] Curry: My Aquila which is sitting down here actually
[691.2] Curry: Which has its top off? This is a little frame from rush FPV and STP. I
[700.23] Curry: Had this in the garden and turned it on and I got satellites
[703.79] Curry: So when I took it to the field to test it out the idea of this is kind of lightweight
[708.39] Jack: long range
[710.99] Curry: blades by blades by blades more efficient
[715.23] Curry: I'm told I might be wrong. Don't know I
[719.91] Curry: Should explain that the frame is lovely and spanking you everything else is like off cuts
[725.35] Curry: It's all from my spares box. So the fact that fluid all
[728.95] Curry: Is not bad
[731.11] Curry: But got it to the field. I could not get a single satellite. So something something has gone
[737.87] Curry: Drift on that one. I was trying to work out
[740.99] Curry: What it was?
[743.11] Curry: So I need to do some more testing that in the garden, but that flew okay again
[746.83] Curry: That's on Express LRS and we got to a kilometer and it's a bit. It's a bit inevitable now
[753.43] Curry: I'm testing out all these radio systems and I was like
[755.71] Curry: I've only got this much space before I hit a road and I'm sorry
[759.27] Curry: The signal has not changed from full so it will probably go further. That's what I can tell you it will go a long way
[767.83] Curry: Yeah, and then I flew the I remember the race loop 30 with the multi-colored things
[777.47] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, where is that? Yeah, yeah
[781.79] SPEAKER_01: Refreshers love hearts machine
[785.31] Curry: The palm of eyelids all of that
[788.39] Curry: The classic I'm colorblind. So I chose this one thing this
[792.83] Curry: What they said is like these five bladed props much quieter than the old cine whoops
[798.35] Curry: Doesn't have as much material around it much quieter lies
[801.67] Curry: I
[805.03] Curry: Just
[806.07] Curry: Insane there was see it's it's like my sister-in-law's farm and two fields over
[811.63] Curry: They have a small sort of caravan site and I'm like I was terrified because this thing
[817.19] Curry: Sounds like some sort of like
[819.79] Curry: swarm of demonic wasps
[822.31] Curry: Literally, that's back for the year for this again. Yeah. Yeah, that's my segue for later
[828.57] Curry: And
[829.93] Curry: Yeah, this this was insanely loud and with a full GoPro because they said oh, yeah
[835.89] Curry: it's a bit lighter than the other stuff I kept turning and
[839.89] Curry: The nose kept dropping so I crashed it twice just trying to fly regular acro and I was doing
[847.01] Curry: Because it said you can do like light freestyle. So I thought yeah, I tested out. So every time I sort of did a flip
[853.13] Curry: I could hear it and I could hear like because you know, obviously you you
[857.69] Curry: Pump the throttle you throttle off you do your maneuver and then you're kind of floating and you don't expect that much noise from it
[864.69] Curry: On this one. I could hear the motors spinning up
[868.25] Curry: And it was it was moving around. So I think the thing is such a wind capture device
[875.93] Curry: that in order to try and keep his position the motor spin up all the time and the whole thing was
[882.13] Curry: It didn't fly very nicely, but I took it out again
[884.93] Curry: and
[886.93] Curry: Yesterday into the woods
[889.45] Curry: Where I sometimes fly like little things just trying to go between the trees and that and I kind of got the hang of it
[894.45] Curry: A bit more and it was a case of like knowing when to really pump the throttle and stuff and I hit some trees
[899.45] Curry: And I eventually broke a prop which I was quite proud of because it's built for toughness. I've just lost my ear plug
[906.41] Curry: but what and
[908.53] Curry: Steven mentioned this the fact it's like
[911.41] Curry: Got these pusher props. It's like so I crashed off a tree it landed upside down
[915.29] Curry: I was like, I'm not quite sure where that is. Let's see if I can turtle mode over and fly back. So I did
[921.29] Curry: Took off and it sounded even worse
[924.01] Curry: It sounded like really bad and I came over and I looked at it and said look at that
[928.53] Curry: Not a single piece of damage took off again
[930.53] Curry: Still sounded bad because it had some leaf stuck in it. So I pulled those out and then when I looked it had lost
[936.01] Curry: Two or three of the blades of one of these five bladed props us. Oh, that's why it's got that noise
[941.53] Curry: So yes, the problem with taking off from the ground when the props are literally on the ground is that you can smash things up
[949.93] Curry: and I also flew that massive f450 trying to get it ready for
[955.69] Curry: Open HD and that was a complete disaster
[958.29] Curry: So I'm rethinking that one that was like trying to fly a breeze block
[962.85] Curry: which has been
[964.49] Curry: Like hit by a sledgehammer and you're trying to take control of it and it's just like this
[969.41] Curry: I couldn't I couldn't even land it I had to put it in return to home
[972.89] Curry: Just to bring it back again because I was like I see when I'm going
[976.05] Curry: That was my week
[977.57] Curry: fun times
[979.33] Jack: can see where you're going because of the
[982.49] Jack: HD or
[984.65] Curry: No, I haven't got I haven't got open HD in it yet. I
[988.21] Curry: It's got a regular FPV in there and I now because I wanted to make sure I now was going well
[992.89] Curry: And I thought let's do a bit of tuning on it and I've taken it out before and I had my old
[998.21] Curry: Opto the old 30 amp opto ESC that speak PWM and that was all shaky and looked bad. I was like, okay
[1004.61] Curry: we've got to go and
[1006.25] Curry: Try and and put something more up-to-date because this is the old rose tinted spectacles
[1011.33] Curry: I was like this was the smoothest whatever
[1013.33] Curry: When I had my NASA on it and it was had my GoPro and then I went back and watched my videos from nine years ago
[1018.69] Curry: And what I thought was like smooth then was just the fact that I could see where I was going and it was all
[1026.97] Curry: Horrible, but we remember it as being like this is amazing
[1029.61] Curry: Of course, it was amazing because we were flying and not crashing and could see where we're going
[1033.81] Curry: but that's not the same as being smooth and
[1037.17] Curry: And that's why I changed I changed all the SCs out for something that could run D shot albeit D shot 300
[1043.17] Curry: I thought this would give
[1044.89] Curry: At least a fighting chance of being able to spin the motors up and break them better
[1050.61] Curry: But of course, these are 900 kV motors with 10-inch props
[1054.61] Curry: So these aren't things that you can very quickly respond to and this has always been a problem
[1060.05] Curry: With things like beat fly and I now as soon as you get to bigger quads
[1063.85] Curry: It takes a lot more effort, but it was so bad. I thought you know what? I'm I'm just gonna give up on this
[1069.77] Curry: I'm gonna move this to a quad that I already know flies well and
[1074.25] Curry: Just stuff it in because the only reason I was using that quad is I thought I've got those space there
[1078.61] Curry: I can fit this in easy, but actually that's a bad. I've decided that's a bad idea and the best idea is
[1084.69] Curry: choose a quad of which there are many hanging round here that already flies and
[1090.89] Curry: just find a way of stuffing the Raspberry Pi in there and
[1095.05] Curry: Making it work. And if I have to gaffer tape stuff on
[1098.69] Curry: And we'll just do that and then we'll see how it goes. So that's that's the new plan
[1103.97] Curry: Shall I explain the Hornet reference? Mmm. Yes, since we've got nothing to talk about so you need to fill don't we?
[1111.09] Curry: Just before we came on I was talking and people appreciate this you go on to YouTube and it's like suggested for you
[1117.93] Curry: And for some reason the suggested for me was this video from a channel called Hornet removal
[1125.57] Curry: Which is this I don't know if they're Chinese or that some
[1129.57] Curry: Asian country where basically a bunch of guys
[1133.29] Curry: Find these they call a murder hornet. So, you know these big Asian hornets like this big that can literally kill people
[1139.57] Curry: like a couple of stings from these things you you're out of it and
[1143.21] Curry: One of the most interesting things I saw about their first video is how they tracked a hornet back to its nest now
[1150.05] Curry: I'm not sure how they do it in terms of they put out some, you know sugary solution
[1156.25] Curry: And of course the wasps and insects are attracted to it
[1159.17] Curry: So you've got this giant Hornet, which looks like, you know a small rodent
[1164.41] Curry: Sucking up this sugary drink and somehow they tie a little ribbon on it. I don't know
[1171.33] Jack: Do they capture it then freeze it
[1176.97] Curry: That high-tech it's just like a ribbon goes on it
[1179.73] Curry: Anyway, as soon as the ribbons on and I think the hornet is so distracted by the sugary liquid
[1185.33] Curry: Because you see the ribbon on it is still drinking away
[1188.81] Curry: The thing takes off and you can see like a ribbon behind it and it's like it's doing like a streamer train
[1195.05] Curry: plane so then they take off in a drone and they follow this little streamer in the sky and
[1202.21] Curry: From this they get back to this hornet nest, which I thought they'd be in trees, but they're apparently these underground
[1209.29] Curry: Burrows these these like Asian hornets and it's like the traditional sort of wasps nest but all underground
[1215.29] Curry: So they get in there. They don these like hazmat suits
[1219.05] Curry: So they can't get stung and then they have a very high-tech thing of getting an old like plastic bottle putting it on the entrance
[1227.05] Curry: Whacking it and all the hornets basically flood up the bottle and then they catch the rest and basically take the nest out
[1234.61] Curry: That way, but the fact that they use a bottle
[1238.61] Curry: It's like, you know sort of free free liter bottle, but it doesn't it doesn't get all of them
[1243.65] Curry: So they're still like these massive hornets all flooding over them trying to sting them
[1247.81] Curry: And then they're out imagine a small fish net for goldfish. You see these guys just doing this
[1253.81] Curry: It's just catching these orders and then shoving them in the bottle. It's bizarre
[1257.53] Curry: I don't know how that got in my suggested video, but having watched two of them. There's now just rows and rows of hornet videos
[1266.09] SPEAKER_01: I can't get away from the algorithm has determined you have an interest in hornets. You seem to like hornets
[1272.37] Curry: Look at this
[1274.89] Curry: Really weird, but I thought that's a really interesting
[1278.37] Curry: Way of using a drone and it kind of fits into RC cuz the whole like oh, we like following things with streamers
[1283.85] Curry: That's fun
[1285.85] Curry: to insects now and
[1287.81] SPEAKER_01: Banjo RC says he saw a video of a drone with a flamethrower setting fire to a wasps nest recently
[1294.77] Curry: Oh
[1295.77] Curry: They can let it see that again. It sounds more cruel if you use the flamethrower
[1302.77] Curry: Do this stuff
[1304.45] Curry: That is under suits. That's that looks like the suits their suits a little bit less tech. Let me
[1310.45] Curry: Let me find the video ahead because they've actually got this thing with the oh
[1316.05] Curry: My god, my skin's crawling. You can see that they've got the little
[1321.09] Curry: thing around it which is
[1323.33] Curry: Just about the weirdest thing. I think you'll ever see
[1328.49] Jack: He frees he frees them
[1330.93] Curry: Are you sure about that? How'd you know? Yeah, you're an expert on hornets
[1337.67] Jack: No, they do that to like spiders and flies and stuff
[1341.87] Jack: Freeze it and chill them out
[1344.11] Jack: And get all those arms just slow
[1347.55] Curry: It's amazing when it flies because you'd think you'd lose sight of it pretty quickly. But look look at it go
[1352.59] Curry: You can see it for miles. Can't you?
[1358.4] Curry: I had no concept of this was but yeah, they just as soon as they get in there, it's it's like slightly less high tech
[1365.04] Curry: They dig a hole
[1366.88] Curry: They get buzzed with massive of hornets and inside that hole
[1372.16] Curry: It's these giant nests full of like larvae and stuff and look at the size of those things
[1378.84] Jack: Why don't you just kill it with fire?
[1384.5] Jack: That is nightmare fuel
[1386.74] Curry: It should be nightmare fuel that's horrendous, isn't it and these I mean it's not like how many something
[1393.62] Curry: Only stings till it kills you. I don't know. These are pretty serious insects
[1398.9] Curry: I saw it was on job 60 when it was that used to be a thing and there were like a couple of stings from these
[1405.82] Curry: Guys can take you out. Obviously any slight allergy towards that sting and you're you're out of it immediately
[1411.26] Curry: Mm-hmm
[1413.26] Curry: That would be bad
[1414.54] Curry: But yeah, that's that's the random rabbit hole I've been doing and none of the videos in English
[1419.14] Curry: I don't really they and they they chat it through with the camera and I was like, I don't know what he's saying
[1423.9] Curry: But it's just really interesting to watch how many how many times can you say?
[1430.26] Curry: You know, we found the hornets. We're gonna dig them up put them in a bottle and kill them all now
[1436.54] Curry: Don't do anything else who knows
[1441.34] SPEAKER_01: Two inches long enough about you Jack drones
[1450.58] SPEAKER_01: We're getting a selection of favorite wasp videos in the chat now
[1454.54] SPEAKER_01: It's not just me. I think there's been a big there's being a big push
[1459.02] SPEAKER_01: moving on from MTV in drones to
[1462.94] SPEAKER_01: drone
[1464.42] SPEAKER_01: wasps
[1465.74] Curry: I mean to be fair if you can put a stream on it
[1468.46] Curry: You can probably put a little one of those little one
[1472.3] Curry: cameras
[1474.74] SPEAKER_01: Just like a tiny little survey with like a dab of sugar just on the end of it on the alarm
[1479.82] SPEAKER_01: Just so you go one way on the carrot in a stick
[1484.42] Curry: You could do it
[1485.3] Curry: it's be a bit like pickle Rick when he turns into a pickle and he has to
[1488.98] Curry: Use his tongue to probe that like rats brain to try and get it to move which is
[1494.3] Curry: Probe that the whole net make it flying different directions
[1499.18] SPEAKER_01: Changing the subject signing
[1502.22] SPEAKER_01: Happy birthday Caroline
[1504.58] SPEAKER_01: I hope you enjoy your
[1506.9] SPEAKER_01: TX 16 s that you got given and
[1510.62] SPEAKER_01: What else did you get you did?
[1513.86] Jack: Can does anyone know whether I can flash this with non
[1518.58] Jack: LBT
[1521.38] SPEAKER_01: There's a series of receivers the radio master receivers no idea probably if anyone knows that would be amazing
[1533.89] SPEAKER_01: What else has happened recently
[1536.29] SPEAKER_01: It was the BDRA championships on the weekend the
[1540.37] SPEAKER_01: nationals
[1542.21] SPEAKER_01: Look like it went very well that they had some pretty reasonable weather
[1545.97] SPEAKER_01: And it was at BMFA Buckminster, and they just took over the fuel for the day
[1552.57] SPEAKER_01: But looks well for the weekend if I looks good and have the you know the big inflation we're tracking everything
[1558.89] SPEAKER_01: Harry Holmes won it
[1561.85] SPEAKER_01: Congratulations, Harry
[1565.81] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's that's the I mean I had a look through the stream
[1570.89] SPEAKER_01: I didn't watch the entire thing because it is all streamed. It's under
[1576.13] SPEAKER_01: What is it under?
[1578.13] SPEAKER_01: Called drone racing streams is the channel on YouTube
[1582.61] SPEAKER_01: BDRA British Championships and
[1585.77] SPEAKER_01: You can watch the entire stream is like six hours each day or something like that
[1591.05] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I didn't see any anyone using any digital stuff, but then I guess I wouldn't like if it was
[1596.57] SPEAKER_01: Digital and I guess they wouldn't be picked up and streamed, but it looks
[1601.41] SPEAKER_01: It looks pretty impressive like
[1604.29] SPEAKER_01: 13 second laps and things
[1607.17] SPEAKER_01: quite a big complex track I think I would struggle to get through a gate in 13 seconds, so I
[1615.73] Curry: Certainly wouldn't remember the track layout. I think I saw
[1618.45] Curry: Good. I didn't watch any of it, but I've seen people posting little bits on
[1624.21] Curry: Facebook and stuff
[1626.17] Curry: Like I saw so rub cerebrus. So what's his name again?
[1631.53] Curry: Say sub
[1634.53] Curry: Cerberus yeah, I saw some of his laps and
[1637.65] Curry: Just I think the biggest obstacle with me would in racing wouldn't be the fact that I'd hit all the gates
[1643.45] Curry: It would be that I couldn't remember where I was going. It's like
[1650.65] Curry: Now I had to be navigated we just have a big oval or something
[1655.29] Jack: Yeah
[1657.01] Jack: Speedway NASCAR, you know, yeah get the old beer bellies out and you know flip some barbecue
[1664.89] SPEAKER_01: Kind of trim trim left a bit. You're right. Yeah, we like that
[1671.41] Curry: Racing course we just have poles and outside of that pole outside of that pole and that that's good enough for me. Yeah
[1680.09] Jack: Yeah copilot, that's right Dave
[1684.29] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think I think I was just like telling you that line of sight what way you needed to go
[1691.17] Jack: No, it was terrible. I
[1693.85] Jack: I'm so bad at it. I just didn't I did not know. Oh man. All the keys are like falling off my keyboard
[1701.65] Curry: Horrendous. Well my keyboard update you only had one key missing before did you buy that set of keycaps?
[1708.41] Jack: No, I got in a fight with the person on eBay
[1715.29] Jack: And they blocked me
[1717.61] Curry: even better story
[1719.97] Curry: What did you do? How do you know? I'd like to buy these keys, please
[1724.29] Jack: Here's my PayPal and is my offer and they declined it twice
[1729.65] Jack: And in on the final one, I told him to stick the keys up his arse. Oh
[1736.57] Jack: No, if you wanted four quid for one key
[1740.05] SPEAKER_01: Oh
[1742.05] Jack: Yeah
[1743.49] Curry: And then he blocked me
[1745.97] Curry: Four quids for one key Wow
[1749.33] Jack: Is it made of gold or something? So luckily because I'm doing all this fettling. I've now got my
[1756.65] Jack: File and I just use that to press the L key
[1762.13] SPEAKER_01: It's a good thing there aren't many owls in ldo or brighten till I fly
[1767.61] Curry: You know an entire keyboard is some four quid on Amazon. Yeah, I
[1772.09] Jack: Like this keyboard. Well, I don't know why the keys keep coming off
[1779.21] Jack: He blocked himself with the key I
[1784.97] Jack: Didn't I
[1787.33] Jack: Know it's bad. Yeah, so I'm still missing an elk a so if it carries if it carries on f9 is gonna get it
[1795.89] Jack: and
[1797.41] SPEAKER_01: I'm just gonna like take the f9 key off and put it where the elk is
[1802.09] SPEAKER_01: Make sense
[1805.09] SPEAKER_01: Right now on it. Yep. That's my plan. She's what I'm saying. It's you doesn't really matter spacebarrier
[1815.01] Jack: The glorious day I think about that the glorious days of space bear and
[1820.49] Jack: The dog was a dog called
[1823.29] Jack: Pickles oh
[1825.29] Curry: You'd mean for the KFC game. Yeah, it's what make any sense to 90% of the people watching this. I
[1831.77] Jack: Miss those days man playing games with curry ken. It was awesome
[1836.73] SPEAKER_01: This episode was recorded in front of a live online audience
[1840.37] SPEAKER_01: Downloaded and edited to make sense when it played audio only
[1843.73] SPEAKER_01: Sensors to please the iTunes people hosted on the internet forwarded through to your podcast provider
[1848.69] SPEAKER_01: Downloaded playing on your device and is now playing in your ears all thanks to our patreons
[1854.25] SPEAKER_01: Consider joining them and you'll also get other online benefits find out more at patreon.com
[1860.57] SPEAKER_01: slash let's drone out I've seen in the in the discords that there's been a few people mainly numbskull and
[1869.89] SPEAKER_01: Bellerich
[1871.01] SPEAKER_01: Steven who have been
[1873.21] SPEAKER_01: getting on the shark bike train and
[1876.81] SPEAKER_01: Been hunting around for cameras and receivers and things and just snapping them up when they become available
[1884.65] SPEAKER_01: Is that I mean
[1887.05] SPEAKER_01: Is that anything I mean you've got your open HD curry you're going that way it seems like
[1893.09] Curry: I'm going that way because it's cheap, and I've already bought some pies so under there. Yeah
[1899.25] SPEAKER_01: What might you jack are you not being tempted away from analog at all?
[1904.09] Jack: No, I
[1909.09] Jack: Don't yell up turn can we just set up a go fund me for Jack to get a new keyboard
[1917.73] Jack: No, I don't know I'm still undecided
[1922.13] Jack: On what what I want to I want an open thing
[1928.81] Jack: The HD goggles
[1931.81] Jack: And I don't I'm not too sure
[1938.02] SPEAKER_01: RC the botics yes, there is a
[1941.26] SPEAKER_01: Ldo discord which
[1944.26] SPEAKER_01: Hopefully you should be able to find in the description below
[1949.06] SPEAKER_01: Should be a link
[1953.66] Curry: The reason I just disappeared was to show you something which I thought was quite interesting
[1959.06] Curry: This is a Raspberry Pi
[1961.22] Curry: Cm4 which means it's a computer module which is very small
[1966.38] Curry: Compared to the regular Raspberry Pi cuz you don't have very shiny pins. You don't have all the thingies and
[1973.14] Curry: Somebody called Flavio in Italy has produced this open source
[1978.22] Curry: Piece of hardware called the hang on I should say it right if I'm gonna say it
[1985.5] Curry: It's written on this instruction hold on
[1989.22] Curry: The ocean
[1991.06] Curry: OC HIN like that
[1993.78] Curry: Which is this thing which has connectors there and there to fit the compute module on like so and
[2000.98] Curry: Then what you do on the top
[2003.62] Curry: You'd then fit this on and you'll notice this has various holes for mounting
[2008.1] Curry: And so you end up with sort of this situation like it's a little stack and then on top of the stack
[2013.7] Curry: You would put on your flight controller and thus you end up with a much neater solution for like open HD
[2020.42] Curry: And what this is this is done. It's got
[2023.82] Curry: Regular pads here so you can put like a regular battery and it does all the voltage
[2030.46] Curry: Regulation there and then it's got normal
[2033.54] Curry: connectors so you can run USB at these to your
[2036.78] Curry: Wi-Fi module and you've got your arts here to connect your telemetry to your flight controller and stuff
[2042.58] Curry: So that should be a much neater solution. So much better than your regular
[2046.9] SPEAKER_01: Big Raspberry Pi is what exactly looks like what credit card size
[2051.66] SPEAKER_01: Is that about right? Maybe even a bit shorter in square slightly smaller much much smaller
[2057.46] Curry: Than let's see. I've got what's this? This is an ESC board. So this is a 30 mil by 30 mil
[2064.26] Curry: So you can see it's not that much bigger
[2067.06] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's a tiny tiny little bit wider
[2070.7] SPEAKER_01: Then a 30 by 30 board and a little bit longer about one centimeter longer or something like that
[2076.82] Curry: Yeah, so it's not it's not stupid
[2079.62] Curry: Stupidly longer and this this the idea of this one is to go in the plane that Richard has just dispatched to me
[2085.66] Curry: To see how that goes together
[2087.66] Curry: But I thought that was an interesting idea the the only thing that's slightly lacking
[2092.62] Curry: As far as open HD goes and there's a someone called it's called Ruby HD or something like that
[2098.5] Curry: Someone else has written something
[2100.94] Curry: Is the cameras the cameras are all a bit naff and they use that CSI connection, which is this massive?
[2108.22] Curry: Ribbon cable, which aren't the best for flexibly
[2112.54] Curry: Doing things so that's that's the only issue I've got with that, but that should be interesting
[2117.78] Curry: And the other thing Richard works just linked to the github for me there. Okay, that's God bless Richard work
[2125.56] SPEAKER_01: The other thing with open HD as far as
[2129.44] SPEAKER_01: We've seen so far on your ground vehicles. Anyway, I think it's a fair bit of latency, right compared to
[2137.84] Curry: Looking about a hundred
[2141.32] Curry: Milliseconds
[2142.76] Curry: Is the best is looking at the moment one thing I'm I've organized doing
[2148.36] Curry: after I get my next open HD project is talking to the guys that are running a
[2154.6] Curry: The moment is basically a patreon
[2157.6] Curry: They're running to try and create
[2160.44] Curry: a sort of single board
[2163.36] Curry: to replace the the Raspberry Pi
[2166.48] Curry: The idea of this is they can have their own chip that will be specialized in encoding decoding video
[2173.64] Curry: That's that's the latency at the moment. It's like
[2176.84] Curry: using a single board computer
[2179.32] Curry: Runs a whole bunch of OS code and other stuff and it's like oh we'd like now aren't you to compress this video?
[2184.92] Curry: It's like yeah, yeah, I'll get to that. So yeah, there's there's this
[2188.64] Curry: Delay because it's doing other stuff if you look at stuff like the DJI goggles
[2192.64] Curry: They've got specialist silicon that literally just takes this image
[2198.32] Curry: Compresses it into something small squirts it through the goggles and such the latency is very small
[2205.12] Curry: and if you can replace a
[2208.28] Curry: Single board computer with a specialized chip that just does this one thing you can bring that down a lot. So these guys are doing
[2215.0] Curry: Their own designs to try and do that
[2216.96] Curry: So I'm hoping to talk to them in the next few months to see how far they've got along there
[2220.96] Curry: So that they're trying to get the at the moment. They're aiming for
[2225.68] Curry: about 60 millisecond latency, which is similar to what the
[2230.96] Curry: What's it called the other single board computer?
[2234.64] Curry: Which has got all these Nvidia cores on it, which I now can't remember the Jetson nano Jetson nano
[2238.72] Curry: Yeah, the Jetson nano because it's much faster can bring that latency down a little bit. So
[2245.04] Curry: Bringing it down to that might be even better, but I'm fully intending to now
[2249.88] Curry: Having failed dismally on the f450 with iNav. I'm like screw it. I'm just gonna put on a beta flight quad
[2255.24] Curry: Which is gonna fly fast and if I crash into stuff, then I know it's not suitable for that
[2261.2] Curry: But I can also fly, you know more conservatively if I have to and see how it goes really
[2268.48] SPEAKER_01: Um, I saw in the chat earlier that
[2272.64] SPEAKER_01: RC robotics plan for the weekend is to mess around with some carbon fiber to make a
[2278.8] SPEAKER_01: new version
[2280.4] SPEAKER_01: of his uh, black hornets
[2283.04] SPEAKER_01: hornets again, um
[2285.76] SPEAKER_01: Which is the little
[2288.06] SPEAKER_01: helicopters
[2289.28] SPEAKER_01: that were made for the military and sort of
[2292.0] SPEAKER_01: Going around social media a while back and you've been making
[2295.12] SPEAKER_01: Increasingly nice little scale models of them. I guess scale one-to-one scale kind of
[2301.52] SPEAKER_01: Um
[2303.2] SPEAKER_01: and the
[2305.04] SPEAKER_01: The other kind of bit of carbon fiber that's also been floating around recently
[2309.68] SPEAKER_01: I mean it's been posted in the chat from josh barb was
[2313.84] SPEAKER_01: Just done a video on it yesterday
[2317.04] SPEAKER_01: Of the qubit
[2319.28] SPEAKER_01: uh, which is a like a
[2322.64] SPEAKER_01: Tiny
[2323.92] SPEAKER_01: Well, not tiny. It's like a toothpick sized quad
[2327.52] SPEAKER_01: um, but with a couple of carbon fiber wings
[2331.12] SPEAKER_01: and going between
[2332.8] SPEAKER_01: Uh, sort of the front two motors and going between the back two motors
[2336.72] SPEAKER_01: So it's kind of got aerodynamic lift from those
[2340.24] SPEAKER_01: um
[2341.44] SPEAKER_01: And I saw that going around a while back and I didn't think it was really going to go anywhere
[2346.48] SPEAKER_01: But it seems like I mean if josh barb's well covering it that's probably going to go somewhere
[2351.36] SPEAKER_01: um
[2352.24] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's that's quite an interesting
[2354.8] SPEAKER_01: idea. I don't really know I mean, I guess kind of like your uh
[2359.6] SPEAKER_01: long-range
[2361.04] SPEAKER_01: GPS cruise are you showing off earlier carry? I guess that's kind of where that's going to sit because I mean if you've got
[2367.44] SPEAKER_01: A bit more aerodynamic lift that's going to be good for cruising
[2371.76] SPEAKER_01: um
[2373.52] Curry: I guess so the the interesting thing about flying that and maybe this is the same for that sort of thing
[2378.08] Curry: And i've seen the thumbnail of the video. I haven't watched it. So I haven't seen it all is
[2382.64] Curry: I didn't really noticed
[2384.72] Curry: Um, like it was easy to fly in terms of pushing through the air and stuff
[2388.72] Curry: I got like, you know, nine minutes out of a little 850 battery
[2392.32] Curry: but when I was doing sort of some light acro when I sort of
[2395.6] Curry: sort of went upside down and
[2398.0] Curry: Came out of it. I noticed the thing dropped like a stone
[2401.2] Curry: So clearly the thing must cut through the air quite nicely
[2405.36] Curry: Um else it would just you know, I expected a regular quad to float
[2408.8] Curry: So that'd be interesting with the wings because you'd expect it to be
[2411.76] Curry: more floaty, I guess
[2413.92] Curry: It's kind of like you you you want to cut through the air easily, but at the same time
[2418.56] Curry: You want to use these wings to your aerodynamic advantage to sort of not have to
[2424.4] Curry: Put so much
[2426.08] Curry: energy into it
[2428.08] Curry: I have to watch the video. Yeah
[2431.6] SPEAKER_01: Um, i'm a bit confused
[2434.0] SPEAKER_01: because they
[2435.6] SPEAKER_01: They've got like these little winglets at the end of them that I imagine i'm gonna do quite well aerodynamically
[2441.04] SPEAKER_01: But I just thought that's gonna make them
[2443.2] SPEAKER_01: a bit too stable
[2446.0] SPEAKER_01: You know, you're gonna end up something. It is a bit more like a wing. I don't know. We'll see
[2451.68] SPEAKER_01: um
[2453.28] SPEAKER_01: Be interesting to see kind of if other people have picked that up as well and have a go
[2458.0] SPEAKER_01: Missing around with some other ways of doing it. Yeah, sorry
[2460.56] SPEAKER_01: It was sorry a while back and he was like posting up a
[2464.72] SPEAKER_01: almost like a crowd fund I think for
[2467.84] SPEAKER_01: Getting a bunch of these wings made and you can either buy the whole thing or just the wings
[2473.28] SPEAKER_01: And I was looking at the wings and just like um
[2476.08] SPEAKER_01: Let's know like i'd quite like to have a go at this project because it's this sort of thing is up my street
[2481.52] SPEAKER_01: But on the other hand
[2483.36] SPEAKER_01: seems like a lot of money for
[2485.68] Curry: A couple of things i'm not convinced to gonna do but also seems like something that would be fun to bodge
[2490.4] Curry: Like just get some cardboard
[2492.4] Curry: Gaffa tape it to a frame and see what happens
[2494.4] SPEAKER_01: Exactly. Exactly. Especially now i've got a laser cutter. Just sitting there waiting for me to do things with
[2500.0] Curry: That's too posh old old shoebox pair of scissors
[2505.68] Curry: Yep
[2507.44] Curry: That'd be quite fun
[2511.22] Curry: Yeah, I suppose
[2512.66] Curry: If you take it to the extreme where you're like much more of a wing surface with a quad
[2517.62] Curry: You've basically got like a veto plane, haven't you but perhaps without wing surfaces
[2524.42] Curry: But I suppose it might be interesting certainly
[2527.22] Curry: How how is your your veto wing any any progress on it?
[2532.02] SPEAKER_01: since
[2533.06] SPEAKER_01: Scaring the **** out of myself with it. You could take it wing racing on saturday. I could take it wing racing on saturday. I'm not
[2540.34] SPEAKER_01: Going to
[2542.26] Jack: I saw the video of you like oh, this is after me flying and it was just like you're shaking
[2549.68] SPEAKER_01: Trembling a hand. Yeah, it it was a handful. Um
[2555.78] SPEAKER_01: It took me quite a while to
[2558.26] SPEAKER_01: Calm down after that one. It was it's uh, yeah a little bit energetic needs a bit of tuning
[2565.3] SPEAKER_01: uh
[2566.42] SPEAKER_01: I
[2567.7] SPEAKER_01: Am very close to giving up with archery pilot and just sticking an eye nav on it and assuming it will probably work
[2574.02] SPEAKER_01: better
[2575.14] SPEAKER_01: Or even beta flight or something. I don't know
[2578.18] SPEAKER_01: I just I just want the idea that it can
[2581.04] SPEAKER_01: stabilize
[2582.26] SPEAKER_01: both in quad mode and in
[2585.62] SPEAKER_01: Well bike up to mode and in wing mode
[2589.54] Curry: All right
[2591.62] Curry: Any of you see daniel? I see test flight latest video
[2595.3] Curry: Oh, that's so good up and down the seattle river for yeah, like 16 hours without weaning once
[2601.86] Curry: that was interesting because
[2603.86] Curry: That guy is so experienced on arty pilot
[2606.18] Curry: He's done a lot with it
[2607.62] Curry: But if you notice if you look at your screen all the way through it keeps saying like compass unhealthy
[2614.1] Curry: All the way through sensor. Yeah
[2617.78] Curry: It just decides to turn off
[2619.62] Curry: And going to a boat and another time the entire thing just decides to stop working and he has to reboot it
[2626.02] Curry: But um, yeah aside from that it was it was a fun video
[2630.1] Jack: Don't do many updates for it or is it just been released and that's it
[2634.42] Jack: Have they stopped working on it?
[2636.98] SPEAKER_01: There are updates on it. It's but it's more kind of
[2640.98] SPEAKER_01: more eye nav than beta flight
[2643.22] SPEAKER_01: Yeah
[2644.5] Curry: It used to be very heavily funded by uh, what was it 3d robotics that?
[2650.1] Curry: Yeah, 3d xr right
[2652.74] Curry: So anymore, it's I guess it's yeah. Well, I think they they kind of
[2657.38] Curry: Even vectors gone off. I think because they were on the eagle tree went didn't they?
[2663.38] SPEAKER_01: 3d xr I think started off basically just using literal arduino's and that software and sort of
[2671.3] SPEAKER_01: selling
[2672.5] SPEAKER_01: Putting kind of kits together and selling those I think
[2675.7] SPEAKER_01: from memory from way back when
[2678.74] SPEAKER_01: Um, yeah
[2682.63] SPEAKER_01: Uh, but then it's it's kind of evolved quite a lot since then
[2688.87] SPEAKER_01: But uh, yeah
[2691.03] SPEAKER_01: The rc test flight videos are so good
[2694.55] SPEAKER_01: Uh, especially like he did with the music now as well
[2698.31] SPEAKER_01: like the songs
[2699.75] SPEAKER_01: But a little the sea shanty
[2701.59] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, well this time it was a sea shanty, but like he's um had ones for his like he's a crowner plan and all sorts
[2709.99] Jack: Yeah, they have a lot of fun. I miss quinn though quinn was quite fun
[2715.27] Jack: Like when he used to fly with her that was that was really good
[2721.11] Jack: But yeah, that's a while I haven't seen quinn for ages so I don't know what the deal is with that but
[2727.83] Jack: It was just uh, you know, it's just like it's amazing what he gets up to
[2732.95] Jack: and like even um
[2735.43] Jack: Like you know like fiberglassing stuff and that
[2738.95] Jack: He's tempting because you've seen like flight tests do that lately, haven't they fiberglass there?
[2743.99] Jack: They're foamies and that you could just imagine like someone like lurgy doing that being an absolute weapon
[2753.27] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, doing doing like a wing yeah like a race wing I think fossil has been talking about that for
[2760.47] SPEAKER_01: Years, so I wonder whether he might bring something on saturday
[2766.63] Curry: My good buddy richard from the chat
[2770.07] Curry: Um did try that once on what was it?
[2773.75] Curry: it was um
[2775.67] Curry: it was like a sort of
[2779.28] Curry: Bixler type plane, but I think it went fine until the last coat
[2783.68] Curry: And then he got some sort of dribbles in it
[2785.84] Curry: So you ended up with this thing where the fiberglass was like smooth
[2789.52] Curry: but down the bottom of the plane it like
[2791.84] Curry: Congealed into this block and I think that plane had to be scrapped and tried again
[2797.12] Curry: It's um, it's quite
[2799.68] Curry: Uh tricky to do or tricky to get right easy to do tricky to get right. I think
[2806.56] Jack: Looks like order order pilot based RC drones might be impossible to ensure
[2812.56] Jack: For commercial work under the rules in the near future
[2818.96] SPEAKER_01: Why is that then? Yeah, I don't I don't know where that would be
[2823.76] Curry: Because there's some really big, um commercial companies that are
[2828.08] Curry: That are behind some of the
[2830.08] Curry: One of these sort of steering committee things that have
[2832.48] Curry: Sort of taken that code and putting their own stuff on it and selling very expensive sort of commercial products. Yeah
[2838.32] SPEAKER_01: quite a big thing for
[2840.16] SPEAKER_01: The really high-end stuff like if they're doing something a bit more
[2844.72] SPEAKER_01: Funky than you can do with just a DJ. I'm a trees
[2848.88] SPEAKER_01: um
[2850.32] SPEAKER_01: I mean, yeah, they're not going to be able to get it like a C rating and sell it
[2855.76] SPEAKER_01: Directly to people that way, but I imagine they'll be kind of developing things and selling them as a
[2863.52] SPEAKER_01: uh
[2865.28] SPEAKER_01: Service, I imagine more than a thing because I guess that will be a thing is all the you know in at some point
[2874.32] SPEAKER_01: If you are selling a kit or a ready to fly model or almost ready to fly model or anything like that
[2879.92] SPEAKER_01: You will have to get it C rated like, you know, the C naught C1 C2 C3 D4. I think it goes up to you
[2887.68] SPEAKER_01: um
[2888.56] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so
[2889.92] SPEAKER_01: I guess that would be an issue
[2894.29] SPEAKER_01: But I wouldn't have thought it would stop you from
[2897.49] SPEAKER_01: building one
[2900.87] SPEAKER_01: Maybe the insurers would have something to say about it. I don't know not really
[2905.59] SPEAKER_01: had
[2906.79] Jack: Anything to do with well, hence voice
[2909.35] Jack: Yeah, he said lie ensure commercial work
[2912.71] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but I he also said under the rules
[2915.99] SPEAKER_01: um
[2917.03] Curry: Tell spits talking about having to be C certified
[2920.79] Curry: Yeah, but yourself or
[2923.19] SPEAKER_01: well, uh C certifications are for
[2927.43] SPEAKER_01: Drone, you know kits
[2930.15] SPEAKER_01: or ready to fly or anything in between those two
[2934.55] SPEAKER_01: being sold so
[2937.27] SPEAKER_01: If you just build one yourself
[2939.67] SPEAKER_01: That's never going to have to be C certified
[2943.11] SPEAKER_01: Unless they change the rules
[2944.87] SPEAKER_01: But they have there's there's nothing saying that that will ever be the case
[2949.35] SPEAKER_01: Uh, they have specifically got a thing there for if you're building something yourself
[2954.15] SPEAKER_01: You don't have to worry about C certification
[2958.42] Jack: Yeah, is it am I right in thinking in your previous job you had a whole?
[2963.3] Jack: um C certification
[2965.94] SPEAKER_01: We did uh
[2967.7] SPEAKER_01: Some things that were you know, we designed and made that were C
[2972.8] SPEAKER_01: Certified we got C E certification for
[2976.66] SPEAKER_01: um
[2977.78] Jack: Yeah, how do you go about doing that?
[2980.1] Jack: Like especially with a drone surely that's a like you got frequency
[2984.58] Jack: Don't lick it with the lead solder
[2986.9] SPEAKER_01: well, it depends what it is and what you're selling it for and how different it is from
[2992.42] SPEAKER_01: Um
[2993.7] SPEAKER_01: Stuff that's on the market already and the bits that you're building it with and all this kind of thing like if you're taking stuff
[2999.7] SPEAKER_01: That individually all has a loaded certification on it. Like if everything you're building it with
[3005.54] SPEAKER_01: already has EMC certification
[3008.66] SPEAKER_01: And stuff like that then it's quite easy to
[3012.26] SPEAKER_01: just
[3013.22] SPEAKER_01: have
[3014.34] SPEAKER_01: Another bit of paper that just says yeah, everything in it is fine. Therefore. It is fine as well
[3020.34] SPEAKER_01: um
[3022.34] SPEAKER_01: a lot of what we were doing was
[3024.98] SPEAKER_01: a case of going
[3026.98] SPEAKER_01: We we were actually self-certifying, which is the thing you can do for certain things
[3032.1] SPEAKER_01: We were actually we we've
[3034.66] SPEAKER_01: Uh, you know during the height of covid problems. We were self-certifying
[3040.02] SPEAKER_01: medical devices
[3041.86] SPEAKER_01: because
[3042.98] SPEAKER_01: we could um
[3046.18] SPEAKER_01: And you know it it it was uh
[3049.54] SPEAKER_01: But it there's
[3052.02] SPEAKER_01: a
[3053.3] SPEAKER_01: It can go from
[3056.02] SPEAKER_01: Depending on what you're doing it can go from
[3058.74] SPEAKER_01: Writing a bit of paperwork and saying yes, this is safe
[3063.86] SPEAKER_01: Because it is obviously safe and I don't have to prove anything else
[3067.78] SPEAKER_01: up to
[3069.38] SPEAKER_01: years of testing and
[3071.7] SPEAKER_01: Getting other third parties with very special laboratories doing those things to it
[3077.14] SPEAKER_01: Toys particularly
[3079.46] SPEAKER_01: Like medical devices and toys are like the two most difficult things to do
[3084.66] SPEAKER_01: Um, and yeah, like I I
[3088.02] SPEAKER_01: Wouldn't want to get involved in trying to get something with a toy certification. So to get something c zero certified
[3094.66] SPEAKER_01: I think it's probably going to be a massive pain in the ass
[3099.54] Curry: Um, it makes you wonder how lego ever got sold
[3102.58] Curry: Did they not just do a simple test where someone stands on a piece and shrieks in pain and said this can't be certified
[3109.22] SPEAKER_01: Oh lego do a lot of testing
[3112.66] SPEAKER_01: they like
[3115.06] SPEAKER_01: It's crazy
[3116.18] SPEAKER_01: The the sorts of things that they they do for getting a new lego brick certified
[3122.5] Curry: Is that is interesting because they're all small enough to be swallowed and if you stand on them, they hurt like hell
[3128.1] SPEAKER_01: so
[3129.14] SPEAKER_01: Well, that's why they'll have the the age rating on it that will be like
[3133.3] SPEAKER_01: Four and above or something like that the Saturn
[3135.7] Jack: Yeah, and the leg of men heads have now breathable holes so that when you choke on it, you can breathe through the little
[3144.5] SPEAKER_01: Because it's got to be
[3146.02] SPEAKER_01: bigger than a certain size and it's got to have holes no smaller than a certain size and
[3152.1] SPEAKER_01: There's there's just there's so much
[3154.98] Curry: Yeah, robin fpv makes a good point. How did they test that?
[3158.34] Curry: Do they stick them at children's noses plus get them to eat them just to test this out?
[3164.02] Curry: We want to make sure this this comes out in the poo undigested. So you're not absorbing any of the lego brick toxins
[3172.1] Jack: Yeah, is it true like mega does a photo degrade or break down and become brittle and stuff as well
[3177.78] SPEAKER_01: That's why there's like tons of it on a beach somewhere. I'll have a load of uv stabilizers in there i'm sure
[3183.7] SPEAKER_01: um
[3185.3] SPEAKER_01: Because it is expected to last quite a long time
[3189.14] Curry: Yeah, people know we've done hornets. We're moving on to lego bricks badger badger
[3194.5] Jack: What a legend lego bricks were certified by the same lab that passed the three-pin plug
[3200.42] Jack: or
[3201.54] SPEAKER_01: bs
[3204.32] SPEAKER_01: 1465 what is it? I can't remember. It's been too long
[3209.38] SPEAKER_01: um
[3210.9] SPEAKER_01: Richard work has got more of the comment that he was referring to
[3214.02] SPEAKER_01: Uh, he says I was trying to get all the drones we use for research insured through my university's insurer and they only accept it
[3222.02] SPEAKER_01: They only accepted to ensure the dji ones
[3225.06] SPEAKER_01: Classing the others as home-built
[3227.38] SPEAKER_01: And refusing to insure it. So now I have hundreds of pounds
[3230.9] SPEAKER_01: Of argi pilot base tech that I can't really use anymore as I'm not willing to risk flying them uninsured for work purposes
[3238.02] SPEAKER_01: I mean
[3239.14] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, if you're flying something commercially you need to have commercial light
[3244.34] SPEAKER_01: insurance
[3245.94] SPEAKER_01: I can imagine that they wouldn't
[3248.34] SPEAKER_01: Want to do something that you're classing as home-built
[3252.5] SPEAKER_01: But maybe then you have to find a different insurer. That's got a different way of doing it. I mean that's just
[3258.26] SPEAKER_01: I don't know. There's out way way out of anything that I know about
[3263.06] SPEAKER_01: I wonder
[3266.58] Jack: I wonder if like, you know, you could like pay someone to build it or you know, like a little mot for drones
[3274.74] Jack: You know like I imagine that's probably
[3277.14] SPEAKER_01: I mean that's probably gonna have to be a thing, right? Is that if you're building something?
[3281.46] SPEAKER_01: That you want to use commercially
[3283.78] SPEAKER_01: You're probably gonna have to talk to the caa about it
[3286.82] SPEAKER_01: I mean
[3288.1] Jack: Yeah, oh by the way, I checked out, you know the the laws you were telling me about the whole
[3292.82] Jack: You had a friend with the one wheel and everything and the whole laws of electric scooters and stuff
[3299.3] Jack: You were right and it is absolutely horrendous
[3303.62] Jack: It's like if it hasn't got an mot you get three points
[3307.94] Jack: If it's not insured you get another three points
[3311.86] Jack: And like it's like 24 grand fine
[3315.94] Jack: And you know if you don't have a license
[3318.66] Jack: That's a thousand pound fine
[3321.38] Jack: I was like I looked that up because like, you know, like not that frank, you know
[3326.5] Jack: I ever doubted you frank for a second
[3328.98] Jack: But I was like, let's have a look, you know, and I was like bloody
[3333.46] Jack: Wow
[3334.66] Jack: That is yeah. Do you not ride motorized scooters or bikes or anything?
[3339.7] SPEAKER_01: Yeah, there's the police will actually vehicles
[3342.98] SPEAKER_01: that aren't like apart from
[3345.78] SPEAKER_01: A bicycle that is you know an e-bike but it is only pedal assist
[3350.82] SPEAKER_01: That is that is the limit of what is legal anything else?
[3354.42] SPEAKER_01: You could lose your license for if you're not there
[3358.1] Curry: It seems like the police aren't going after people though because I see
[3363.7] Curry: These scooters around
[3365.7] Curry: everywhere
[3366.82] SPEAKER_01: It does depend where like if you're going
[3370.5] SPEAKER_01: as a friend of mine
[3372.5] SPEAKER_01: Knows from saw personal experience if you're going around
[3377.3] SPEAKER_01: In the bike lanes of london during commuter time
[3381.06] SPEAKER_01: Uh, there are police standing on the street corner waiting to go. I think that's an electric vehicle
[3388.1] SPEAKER_01: Can you come over here, please? I'm seizing that i'm putting that on the back of a
[3392.74] SPEAKER_01: You know clamping vehicle and that's good. You're going to have to retrieve it from the pound and get six points on your license
[3400.93] Curry: What you need then is to not have a driving license. I always find interesting for people that have no license
[3406.61] Curry: Then caught stealing cars and then they have the license suspended
[3410.45] Curry: That they don't have
[3412.29] Curry: It'd be like that
[3414.69] Jack: You should have your license suspended for joining a e motor vehicle
[3421.49] Curry: I had to explain to you
[3424.61] Curry: Sorry, I was just gonna say I had to explain to the physio that I saw last week when she was looking at my other knee
[3429.57] Curry: That looked a bit lumpy
[3431.25] Curry: I said what what happened to this one? I saw I fell off a skateboard and she said oh, when was that?
[3435.01] Curry: I said, I don't know two years ago and she's like what?
[3438.85] Curry: What were you doing an electric skateboard two years ago? Oh, yeah falling off of it. Thanks
[3445.89] Jack: There's an electric skateboard account as an electric vehicle, yes
[3450.29] Jack: Like oh my god, I don't have an extra skateboard
[3453.57] Curry: I have a remote control skateboard that I occasionally stand on and then fall off. That's different
[3459.49] Curry: So it's just it's just another RC ground vehicle
[3463.89] SPEAKER_01: That that is actually an interesting thing. Like if you were driving around
[3469.17] SPEAKER_01: Just remote control would that be fine?
[3473.01] SPEAKER_01: I think so
[3474.21] Jack: It's all by the BMFA. You'd have insurance
[3477.09] SPEAKER_01: Because yeah, like if if otherwise it would mean that
[3481.81] SPEAKER_01: Like driving a radio controlled car around that I just happened to be stood on
[3488.85] SPEAKER_01: I don't know. I don't know how that works. Oh man
[3492.85] Jack: Tune in next week where we find now
[3496.93] SPEAKER_01: What happens if you take?
[3499.17] SPEAKER_01: like an e quad bike
[3501.57] SPEAKER_01: Put a radio control on it and just drive that around the streets
[3505.89] Curry: They'll probably do you for terrorism. If you literally sat there with your little controller going like this and turning the wheel
[3512.53] Curry: I think you'll be okay
[3514.53] Jack: Yeah, that's the point, right? What happens if you're on an electric scooter, right?
[3519.89] Jack: But it's not being controlled by you. It's been controlled by someone
[3523.73] Jack: In the passenger seat of a car next to you. You're just on it
[3529.09] Jack: And but you're not in control of it
[3530.85] Curry: It feels like everyone's in so much more trouble than if you were just riding a scooter in the first place
[3535.81] SPEAKER_01: I was just thinking that how far could you push that? I mean
[3539.33] SPEAKER_01: Couldn't like what happens if you take an untaxed unregistered car and radio control it like is that all of a sudden?
[3547.41] SPEAKER_01: Fine to just drive around the streets
[3550.13] Jack: Like it's still a radio controlled car
[3552.85] Jack: actual car
[3554.53] Jack: No skin in the game. That's right, but you wouldn't be able to drive it on the streets. Would you?
[3559.41] Jack: No
[3560.61] SPEAKER_01: That's what I mean. If if you're if no one's in it and you're just driving it around radio control
[3566.93] SPEAKER_01: It's like a vehicle
[3568.61] Curry: That's an interesting one
[3572.82] SPEAKER_01: I think we found plenty of loopholes join in next week from hmp forward
[3579.78] Jack: No, it's guys you've been listening to let showing out
[3582.34] Jack: Uh big massive. Thank you to all our patreons and people who tune in to watch this crap
[3587.78] Jack: Uh, we love you. Uh frank roll the roll the
[3591.62] Jack: Uh thing you've been joined by everyone's favorite curry kitchen
[3596.1] Jack: Goodbye
[3597.3] Jack: And you stay frank. Bye
[3599.94] Jack: And i've been brought to life lie and you've been listening to
[3602.74] Jack: Like shown out. Thank you guys. Good night
[3606.26] SPEAKER_01: Bye
[3608.26] Curry: Telemetry lost
