[0.0] Jack: Hello, and you're listening to what drone out and special thank you to our lovely patrons that help donate so that we can pay the editor to remove the swear words and silly things we say massive thank you to Carlos campos are folk now sam dama.
[19.68] Jack: He dread on with the show.
[53.62] Stephen: Hello and welcome welcome.
[60.42] Stephen: So let's turn out and you are joined by this evening curry kitten everyone's what's going on everyone's favorite curry kitten.
[71.5] Stephen: Not to be slightly unwell jack or less favorite current kids hello.
[76.46] Stephen: The man in control Frank hello.
[79.7] Curry: I'm myself Stephen hello you're supposed to say what episode number is which only Frank knows.
[86.5] Frank: Thank you for.
[92.18] Jack: 3 to 4 it took a while to get on that.
[102.38] Frank: I was hoping we'd have Tony this week because he said he's definitely flown definitely you can prove that because he's put a video up.
[110.98] Jack: But I don't know it was a universal credit soldiers.
[122.06] Jack: I can't take credit for that that was a joke told to me by Ed and it's I think it's a founding member who's a real soldier me first the people like Tony's universal credit soldiers.
[139.97] Stephen: Who everyone looked very serious and fully kitted up with their airsoft stuff and he was zooming along a bunch of trenches very nice smooth it's any flying there from Tony.
[152.13] Jack: Yeah, and we should pay more respect because today is the 11th of the 11th.
[159.61] Jack: We should have a minute silence on the podcast for everyone to enjoy will have an awkward silence at some point I'm sure.
[169.33] Stephen: Yeah, building up to it.
[171.65] Frank: We can all add it add in all the yeah if you add up the awkward silences they're doing about five six minutes anyway so we've got that covered so right the the editor who's best it is today takes all those out so listeners of the podcast point out that.
[185.65] Curry: Sounds quite snappy I listened to it in the car a while ago and I was like who are these people they sound really good.
[193.21] Curry: I surprised what you can do with editing it's amazing who are these monkeys they sound really crap.
[201.05] Jack: You know that you know that monkey spacebar every 30 seconds you're on about he is like every time we drop a new podcast he's.
[214.73] Stephen: It's all synthesized it's not real so it's all just random random crap and AI not really people you started at eight.
[225.13] Stephen: I think I remembered what day it was and Tony hasn't shown up speaking of random crap and gibbering I decided to programmatically create some random crap and gibbering.
[237.69] Stephen: Because I was I was annoyed at the soft seductive tones of my HDX radio which I became increasingly convinced was trying to seduce me rather than give me any warnings.
[248.73] Stephen: The developers had moved the English voice with sharp RP to a very soft soothing Irish voice with a little melting kind of come to bed sibilance.
[260.25] Stephen: Which was very hard to understand on the typical 10 cents speaker that they jam into these radios Irish people lovely and they sound very nice but as a radio I wanted it to be a bit more more sharp and not quite as seductive.
[275.29] Stephen: So I set about building my own voice pack.
[278.49] Stephen: I found out that they're all auto generated they're all synth voices no one sitting down there at a mic anymore and yeah I went through the steps and got my own azure account which was a pain in the bottom and set about churning out a couple of voices so I've got enough pull request now to HDX.
[297.37] Stephen: For a British female and male voice I found weirdly all of the voices of female which I guess everyone just has some kind of slightly old sexist notions about their radios I guess I don't know balance I do a male one.
[316.33] Jack: I like my transmitter sounding like a disgruntled old dinner lady.
[327.37] Jack: That's my that's my grandmother's name.
[332.69] Curry: I wanted to do a follow up voice pack with Sophie now she's a teenager where every switch just says I hate you leave me alone and stuff like that but in teenage style she decided she didn't want to do that anymore and she hates me and I'd just leave her alone.
[349.73] Curry: She just recorded her saying I just I just like record on my iPhone and go and talk to her I have enough stuff after like five.
[356.17] Stephen: Every switch is just dad dad so stupid.
[365.25] Curry: I want one you can't say that anymore you're going to get canceled as another one that comes up a lot.
[373.13] Jack: Not real podcast you're not on Spotify oh my god what is this.
[377.53] Curry: And Sophie found out we were on Spotify it was like we almost managed to say 1599 a month because she devalued Spotify that much.
[394.93] Curry: So funny so what has been happening with you guys have you been up to anything.
[401.33] Jack: Flying related holding it like a twin engine thing yeah so this is the replacement wing for the mini guinea it's been beautifully cut out.
[416.17] Stephen: Was the mini the one that you had a ldo no was that a mini games.
[420.81] Jack: I've flashed the receiver unpowered it on to see what it binds yet.
[425.57] Jack: I have re soldered and crimped the a lance as far as I've got this week I've been mostly putting some of this together.
[440.13] Curry: I would have got further but from the fact I didn't seem to have a very sharp scalpel and this is equivalent as I was saying Stephen is like just getting a spoon.
[448.65] Curry: You just take the server and you push it into the phone you just kind of fight to get the surveys anything.
[455.17] Curry: This could be my open HD wing because it's got a nice amount of space here what what who's who made it what was this is.
[464.41] Curry: It was a old new thing so it was a brand new in the box flying wings falcon Evo and flying wings haven't been in business for three four years now no.
[475.01] Curry: It was it was my friends who didn't get around to building it and he was just going to chuck it so he says do you want this.
[480.81] Curry: Have you not got a sharp blade.
[483.57] Curry: Well I got laid and then I you know I could cut myself but how can you not cut foam I mean it's like the softest thing in the world there's cutting foam and there's cutting foam cleanly if you don't have a sharp blade you just end up with all these like baubles as the blade basically distorts all the little tiny bottles of fine and I had this big box you know you can occasionally I think I found it in.
[511.53] Stephen: And it was like a big box of blades and I can't find it so I've been using you know essentially a spoon but I gave up on that because I got my most prized family heirloom, which is a knife sharpening block that my grandfather had hidden in the kitchen draw which has now been hidden in my kitchen draw for about 25 years and save my ass on a regular.
[535.81] Curry: I have a knife sharpening stone it's in the box with all the other knives that I can't find.
[545.09] Curry: Somewhere I'll look for it tomorrow because I can't I still need to cut stuff for the receiver and the GPS and I still need to dig out more for the servos and I thought I can't I can't be doing this digging.
[557.45] Jack: Just to get the dremel to the right size and just drop it down in the hole and make a thing which looks really nice I've got a tile cutting piece and that's what it's used for there you screw it on the end and it depth gauges.
[576.41] Stephen: Unlike you professionals doing your your fixed wing with your calculations I've just been hitting trees with a quadcopter I got the shark bite build up and flying and took it out to the forest and boy I'm surprised by how good the signal is.
[593.09] Stephen: I saw a video and it looked like absolute poop but I don't know what I was doing I thought the guy knows how to build a quad but this this is just really clean it's really really quiet.
[605.49] Stephen: Yeah well I can fully accept that like he had a quad which had been raced so it's probably hit things at speed this has been just you know gently cruised round.
[616.41] Stephen: Open spaces and some nice soft trees no metal obstacles but yeah man it's clean it's really really good and I'm actually having a bunch of trouble with my DJI kit right now where.
[627.97] Stephen: I don't know if it's the cadex antenna or the I flight crystal I've got on the goggles but man this is actually giving me better video than my DJI set up which is crazy.
[639.57] Stephen: As soon as I put any any sort of foliage around it the DJI on the vista especially like the air units okay but the vista based stuff I've got a couple of them they're just absolute poop, which is why I'm sort of messing around and trying to go from ufl to to sma antennas on.
[657.01] Frank: Caroline says bardwell had interference from his Wi-Fi repeater.
[662.01] Stephen: I mean I've got Wi-Fi here as well I've never seen anything as sketchy as he had but I've literally because I'm an IT nerd I've got Wi-Fi boosters in every room like I'm six foot from a Wi-Fi booster I don't see the type of IT nerd would just cable everything.
[678.45] Curry: Yeah they're all hard.
[679.33] Curry: Call yourself a proper IT nerd where's your cat six cabling all through your house?
[683.41] Curry: In the walls yeah yeah I have cat six A in the walls so yeah.
[688.45] Stephen: So plug it there.
[689.97] Stephen: Then I've got Wi-Fi points on gigabit in every single room so every room's got good Wi-Fi.
[696.21] Jack: It's like hanging around with a very hairy very hairy line of tech tips isn't it?
[702.37] Jack: Have you been watching the daily driver Linux with Linus and?
[713.81] Stephen: I don't watch I don't know I find him he's a little bit sort of it's frustrating it's like watching stuff for for noobs you know it's a bit like.
[723.97] Stephen: Oh and here's this other amazing thing that you've never heard of which you've known about for 25 years it's just it's kind of irritating so yeah.
[732.37] Stephen: I'm not not really my bag it's like watching drone camps RC you know it's just like that with Linux.
[744.69] Stephen: He does a lot of good stuff but yeah I mean I work for Linux every day is my day job so yeah yeah.
[752.69] Jack: But don't you just like look down and you know just look at them and you know feel
[759.01] Stephen: pissy I feel pissy on a regular basis sure I have.
[764.53] Stephen: Pity did you say a little pissy all right.
[769.81] Frank: Talking of talking of such things not sure whether I'm focusing on the Linux or the pissy but
[776.69] Frank: I am pleasantly surprised over the past week we haven't been absolutely just like.
[783.73] Frank: A flame ward out of existence by the philosophy and community so I'm grateful for that.
[792.53] Stephen: Thank you we love your software please make it shinier.
[797.09] Curry: Did they come back and try and get us for for sharing the wrong video?
[802.05] Frank: I think I think you have a slit up on the tree so it was fine.
[806.13] Jack: Yeah I think I think Frank just made us dodge that bullet he was just like
[812.45] Jack: duck one of us said quack.
[818.53] Jack: And then we yeah we hit the deck and yeah yeah.
[825.01] Stephen: I'm grateful that they're out there and they're doing the lovely little projects
[828.45] Stephen: and there's definitely competition though definitely competition.
[831.49] Curry: I got a weird thing which I agreed to get on the basis that it was so stupid looking
[837.89] Curry: this has just arrived.
[841.25] Curry: One of those twigs they called.
[844.61] Curry: Bone drone because it looks like a cartoon bone.
[848.85] Curry: And you put one motor here one motor there and the only problem I thought about and maybe I thought
[855.01] Curry: about it too late is assumed because one motor is obviously facing up and the other's down
[859.01] Curry: they all said to hit each other and the stacks there it's taking off and landing.
[864.05] Curry: You need to really take off from the floor I'm gonna have to like hold it and then not
[868.45] Curry: get killed.
[869.01] Curry: You used to have a really fat battery to act as a stat.
[872.85] Curry: What about landing again I'm gonna have to like hover it and come in and.
[876.85] Jack: Um I take out a large parcel tube and balance it on there.
[883.65] Frank: Just hover above the ground and it's fine.
[887.01] Stephen: Hold the battery engage stability mode throttle up let go but your goggles on.
[893.73] Curry: Yeah I think landing is definitely harder than the launching.
[897.01] Curry: Launching should be.
[898.13] Stephen: Okay so quick poll who actually pretends that they are doing a correct slow sensible landing
[905.25] Stephen: every time with a quadcopter.
[907.97] Curry: I have to because it's so muddy out there if I don't laugh perfectly on my landing there.
[913.89] Curry: On my landing mat it's like I'm screwed I'd just be a pile of mud.
[918.53] Stephen: I mean I make sure that I'm standing because I'm standing there a place that isn't like ankle
[923.81] Stephen: deep in water so I stand on the dry bit and then I just like fly into my leg pretty much.
[930.93] Curry: Well this is because you're flying these teeny ones as soon as you get to five inch
[934.69] Curry: and you come yeah and maybe a bit more careful there or you're doing like a frank and like I'll
[938.93] Curry: try it with the uh the camera at 60 60 degree tilt you can only fly 80 miles an hour minimum.
[945.49] Curry: You don't want to hit yourself at that speed.
[947.81] Jack: Frank did you ever fix the mini NJ drone?
[952.05] Frank: No the uh what was it receiver this problem?
[960.05] Frank: I mean the entire drone is in bits but I was trying to remember what model it was.
[966.37] Frank: Atari 69 maybe I think it was that NJ gave me and it's yeah it's had a unscheduled disassembly.
[978.21] Curry: Yeah just look at the commas we we don't have many landers.
[981.65] Curry: We have an awful lot of three foot classic strong move that's what you do.
[987.41] Stephen: Landing tree land we're gonna get below below here below that level preferably below
[993.89] Stephen: groin level if you can but basically below head level.
[997.57] Curry: If you catch an image of yourself at the corner of your goggles you know you're close and that's
[1001.57] Curry: when you can just disarm and after that point follow the beeper.
[1006.13] Stephen: I mean once you've disarmed like you're not getting the full force of the motors
[1009.73] Stephen: if you do hit yourself you just got to worry about the momentum and so yeah not terrible.
[1016.37] Frank: As long as as long as you don't have to pack up and take everything with you to go and
[1021.65] Frank: retrieve it as far as I'm concerned it's a landing.
[1026.77] Jack: I still remember that the radian and losing signal
[1032.61] Jack: totally running with transmitter and frang running behind him.
[1038.05] Frank: Yeah turns out that a gyro stabilized glider on quite a windy day when your radio decides
[1047.57] Frank: not to be a radio anymore can stay up for quite a while and go quite far.
[1054.93] Stephen: How far? What sort of distances are we talking about?
[1059.33] Frank: It was like I did look on google maps afterwards and I think it was like it was a good few hundred
[1066.29] Frank: meters that it went I think and it just happened to land like on a path
[1075.49] Frank: uh like on a clear bit of path with huge amounts of bracken and all sorts of things either side.
[1082.85] Stephen: You could have done better if you're on the radio then.
[1085.17] Jack: Exactly.
[1086.93] Jack: I think you've done better than not being in control.
[1091.17] Stephen: Just on the final landing thing I think Richard Borrocks nailed it here that
[1095.49] Stephen: if your quad doesn't bounce upside down that wasn't a proper landing.
[1099.73] UNKNOWN: Right.
[1101.65] Curry: That I'm very disappointed with everybody in where I fly in the woods occasionally with
[1107.25] Curry: little whoops and stuff I literally have to land on a tree stump because it's the only single bit
[1112.53] Curry: of dry thing there is and if I screw that landing up I can't fly that quad anymore because it's
[1117.17] Curry: covered in mud and water. I don't see why that's for people.
[1121.49] Stephen: Isn't that usually just a bit I end up just standing in some place that's like
[1125.65] Stephen: slightly drier than the surrounding area like you're not standing in a puddle are you because
[1130.45] Stephen: like your feet are going to be wet surely I've got all the waterproof boots on and stuff when
[1136.85] Stephen: I go out okay I just I stand on the high ground that's my strategy if I was stood on this tree
[1142.77] Curry: stump then I wouldn't have anywhere to land or take off it sounds you the way you talk about
[1148.05] Stephen: your flying area it sounds like it's just a lake shimmering lake of mud as far as the eye can see
[1154.61] Curry: you think I'm overdoing it but literally it's you can I've retrieved cords that I haven't landed
[1161.25] Curry: and the first thing you have to do is pull them out the mud and like the mud covers motors going
[1166.61] Curry: all you know when you take your cords back and the first thing you have to do is run them under
[1170.37] Curry: the tap that's not good I think because it shouldn't be that bad I'm looking forward to
[1178.21] Stephen: seeing the the bone drone fly though yeah how are you going to build it what are you going to
[1185.73] Curry: make it a light one a heavy one what are you thinking it's um I'm actually going to use it
[1190.45] Curry: it suggested you use sort of short motors so you can see over them because obviously you're
[1197.89] Curry: facing out and you just got this view and I've got an old quad with old cobra 2204s
[1205.25] Curry: and I was like that would work now my ones were really smooth actually they're still pretty nice
[1212.13] Curry: because I can combine that with soft mud every time doesn't he three inch style setup here
[1220.29] Curry: and the ESCs in that will run those little 2204s no problem and yeah it's kind of fun how we've
[1226.53] Stephen: veered back went to like 2207 2208 and now look around there's a ton of 2203 and 2204
[1234.53] Curry: options again oh well this is just me looking on the wall and saying what don't I use that one
[1239.49] Stephen: he'll do I'm taking the motors off that no no I'm just a commentary that like that trend has
[1244.61] Stephen: been circular and people have gone back to the lighter motors again that is true with the whole
[1249.81] Curry: endurance and fashion again Caroline's saying you're assuming you fly in the long direction
[1254.37] Curry: she makes a good point here I was sure now I suppose you you could I suppose do it either way
[1262.37] Curry: you'll have amazing like your capability I suppose in that direction
[1267.73] Stephen: yeah you you can roll like crazy but your pitch is what do you care about pitch or roll that's
[1273.81] Frank: what you've got to ask yourself really isn't it maybe this is the one to uh stick on the front
[1278.93] Stephen: of a wing I mean it's got it well no because you've got motors mounted on either side that's
[1285.97] Stephen: gonna how do you you need standoffs I mean I've been thinking oh I've been running over 3d prints
[1290.77] Stephen: in my head like how do I get this frame stuck on the front of a wing gaffer tape yeah I mean I
[1298.13] Stephen: started out with these grandiose schemes of I'll just I'll learn 3d printing I will sculpt myself
[1303.65] Stephen: the required parts and then to have someone made apart something averse then to how much
[1310.69] Frank: what is this gonna need because like duct tape round it and then let's squirt in some expanding
[1317.25] Stephen: foam and tape off expanding foam is pretty sticky stuff um I'm thinking well I suppose
[1323.33] Jack: it's lighter than hot glue isn't it hot glue is a bit heavy what about that those weird pellets
[1328.37] Jack: that you heat up in hot water and then you mold polymorph they're quite heavy they are quite heavy
[1335.73] Jack: as they are so grew yeah polymorpani being being hurry you're like yo we're on men to
[1344.53] Stephen: walk right now I mean actually I cut a slot in the wing and I'm just going to jam the frame
[1349.65] Stephen: through the slot in the wing and then just glue it in there probably won't end up doing
[1355.41] Stephen: yeah because then I um you know everyone keep well whenever I see a conversation about wings
[1359.49] Stephen: people mention the center of gravity so if I cut straight you know halfway through the wing
[1364.93] Curry: preserve my central gravity yeah well we crashed a friend's 3d printed wing
[1372.21] Curry: because he neglected to tell me that his motor that he got me to fly it with wasn't ready for
[1376.69] Curry: for us and when we said let's try to go full throttle a puff of smoke came out and then we
[1381.33] Curry: found out that PLA doesn't glide that well because it's quite heavy but the nose disintegrated to
[1387.01] Curry: the point where you know when you got those like washing tab things and you can there's a sort of
[1393.73] Curry: a top and it's kind of oval shaped and I was like that will stick on the wing with a bit of gaffer
[1399.89] Curry: tape quite nicely and make a a new nose so just look round at your household objects and see what
[1405.97] Jack: you can use that's what I mean picks up gorilla glue 50 50 with pva glue amazing foam filler
[1413.65] Stephen: that sounds like a valuable tip I'm gonna have to give that a go got some gorilla
[1417.65] Curry: you have to activate it with water as well pva is just wood glue isn't it
[1421.89] Frank: would glue different pva I think wood glue might have a few other things in it but it's I think
[1428.21] Jack: it's pretty much pretty it behaves the same yeah then it's got water in it so that's what excites
[1434.85] Stephen: the gorilla because that's moisture yeah I used to spray the parts with a bit of water to get it to
[1441.57] Stephen: go off quicker got gorilla glue holding my drain pipe together works a treat gorilla glue is good
[1449.17] Stephen: stuff I've never I've never used it myself it's a bit messy because of the foaming like it does
[1458.77] Curry: appreciably increase in volume it does what do you use gorilla glue on I've used it to fix um
[1466.21] Curry: wings before my my upper wings got this great when we took off and someone turned on their um
[1473.81] Curry: vtx and I couldn't see anything and it crashed and it crashed with such a force that part of
[1478.05] Curry: the wing broke off bounced over the fence of a tennis court which I had to climb over and get
[1482.93] Curry: it back again so that wing got glued back on with gorilla glue because gorilla glue is very good at
[1488.29] Curry: expanding into those little holes yeah and holding if you've taken a gouge out of something it'll
[1493.17] Curry: fill it up nicely it does fizz up but that fizz up over the top you can just basically scalpel
[1497.81] Stephen: off again and it's not like brittle it's got a little bit of flex but it's still fairly rigid
[1503.81] Stephen: I so the only flying wingy thing that I've had is a hub sand spy hawk which I got after flying
[1510.61] Stephen: the little hub sand quads as a beginner and I thought oh they do they do planes as well grab
[1516.61] Stephen: a plane and uh someone else had pre-crashed it and it was already sort of in bits I never really did
[1521.73] Stephen: get it flying properly but it was stuck together with a lot of gorilla glue by the end as all wings
[1527.17] Curry: should end up most most wings end up mostly glue yeah the only reason I laminated my original
[1533.97] Curry: falcon was because it it has become much more like sponge than foam and I was like let's
[1539.25] Curry: carbon this up somehow let's laminate it it's all hard again now that's better yeah I found that the
[1545.81] Stephen: the downpipe from the gutters um kind of pours out into a little culvert the front of the house and
[1551.01] Stephen: that was falling off the whole time so I put a bunch of gorilla glue around that and jammed it
[1555.49] Stephen: on hold it there for a little while that's been on there for about five years now pretty good
[1563.41] Frank: it's good stuff just thought back to the beagle bone sorry and not the beagle bone what do I mean
[1570.21] Frank: bone drone bone drone different thing uh I would like to know whether that would work scaled up
[1578.13] Curry: to x-class size I get slightly more worried about a lot to that point
[1585.25] Curry: someone stood underneath it go it might need some legs to be here I got pretty interested
[1591.25] Stephen: in x-class after seeing people talk about them recently and the racing and things and how people
[1596.61] Stephen: were using like eight smaller motors in a concentric pattern instead of just four big motors
[1604.45] Stephen: um and I've kind of looked over like the size to weight ratios and
[1609.41] Stephen: a lot of people think that the motors on x-class are absolutely huge but if you look at them
[1613.57] Stephen: relative to the size of the craft they're not actually that big um it's kind of interesting
[1618.69] Stephen: how we're a bit limited for those larger motors 47 42 these are kind of size of motors you might
[1626.53] Stephen: see on x-class going up to maybe 52 but if you think about the size of an x-class compared to
[1631.65] Stephen: a five inch you should really be way bigger than that and you could run stonking big props too
[1637.73] Frank: well I think there's also an element of like the the bigger your props are
[1642.05] Frank: the more kind of disc area there is less speed you need just for you know this a you need to
[1651.09] Frank: be pushing down just to get your your weight up you know to to get your lift and so then
[1658.61] Frank: you end up with a thing of like the you know power with against air speed is like cubic
[1665.89] Frank: so if you've got you know if you get eight times bigger maybe you only need double the
[1674.21] Frank: power I don't know I feel like there's there's probably some non-linear things there that are
[1679.81] Frank: going to mean that even though it's it doesn't all scale up quite yeah some of the some of the
[1687.09] Stephen: problems on these x-class they remind me of people kind of flying tiny whoops and stuff bizarrely
[1693.73] Stephen: they've gone outside of that Goldilocks zone where the power to weight is balanced and they're sort
[1698.13] Stephen: of overextended a bit I'm not saying it's terrible but you know there's a lot of gap
[1703.33] Stephen: between the props as well 13 inch props on something that could probably fit 17 18 inch
[1708.37] Frank: props maybe yeah how's how's that Paul doing because I did a poll as we were sort of queuing
[1715.49] Frank: up ready to to go live asking people what's their favorite way to get your fix over winter
[1723.65] Frank: and at the moment we've got 40 percent of people prefer to just go outdoors and just brave the
[1730.69] Stephen: weather you brave tough souls well done well done stand on your tree stumps surrounded by a lake of
[1737.89] Stephen: mud pulling your quad out hosing it off with the tank of ice so that you brought to the field with
[1743.57] Frank: you as I say that it's dropped people have gone for other options you've got a couple of photos to
[1749.73] Frank: simulate so just uh now uh next one at 29 percent whoops so there you go as you were saying people
[1761.89] Frank: go for that way get their fix over winter um I wonder if anyone in the chat has been or is
[1768.21] Frank: planning to go to the uh the the race castle uh in Hertfordshire the drone junkie and the
[1776.61] Frank: hearts RC club if I'm getting that right depending on um so as I mentioned a couple of weeks ago
[1785.17] Frank: they're sort of gradually making bigger and bigger events and sort of doing bigger push out of it so
[1789.97] Frank: if anyone in the chat goes to that or has been to that let us know because I'd be interested to know
[1795.41] Frank: uh next in the list is simulators at 23 percent uh there you go and finally bringing out the rear
[1806.53] Jack: I imagine is exclusively jack is building no yeah I guess
[1815.41] Jack: hello tony who's just appeared in the chat I love that hello tone tony
[1824.77] Curry: that is a funky looking airplane it seems you have to try and um you have to be a little bit
[1831.17] Curry: more flexible at this time of year you have to have things ready to go you can't kind of plan
[1835.97] Curry: on it it's just kind of there's a day I have to be able to charge quickly and go which is the kind
[1843.57] Curry: of kind of where sort of larger um whoops or toothpicks that you can get outside quickly and
[1850.29] Curry: you know just get around the trees instead of having to go somewhere big is quite nice
[1854.05] Stephen: it's time to test whether you can in fact charge those batteries at 10c just like put them put them
[1860.13] Stephen: in the lipo safe rack up the current get out there as quick as possible before it starts raining
[1868.29] Stephen: exactly that or just grab some of the storage charge and fly those because yeah this is why
[1875.33] Frank: I've got a field pack that I like because I'm only ever charging it and discharging it fairly
[1883.01] Frank: slowly I don't really give a damn about whether it builds up internal resistance over the course
[1890.77] Frank: of leaving it charged so I'll leave it charged for ages and not worry about it and then I can just
[1897.33] Frank: get out and you know have just what do you need for a field pack how much juice do you need for
[1903.49] Frank: a field pack uh I mean mine's 10 000 milliamp power 4s um if that doesn't convert directly right
[1913.57] Stephen: you've got efficiency loss when you put that into a charger and into another lipo but it's pretty
[1917.89] Frank: pretty efficient and I haven't measured it but I reckon it's probably like 80 percent or something
[1924.13] Frank: um but yeah that's that does me for a pretty good day of flying um especially if I'm like say later
[1932.85] Frank: if I want to spend all life it's a brilliant day and I've got all day and I'm going to spend all
[1937.57] Frank: day flying I can take something like my radium that takes like woop batteries uh yeah I do notice
[1945.65] Stephen: we're starting to see those lithium like camping charger things like curry was reviewing oh man
[1952.21] Stephen: starting to see those appear they are costly though they're very expensive yeah a bunch of
[1960.45] Curry: 18650s in a plastic box would you like to look at our one like somebody wants to send me another one
[1965.73] Curry: it's like I'm not I'm not really a battery pack channel I love it when you're done yeah right
[1973.01] Curry: give out they're asking for them yeah it's like over five liquid this one's using um life batteries
[1979.89] Curry: instead of um lie on oh really well that's right to me seem to do a little bit better when you leave
[1986.85] Curry: them charged you see people in motor homes using those it's um real off the grid living
[1993.73] Curry: yeah lyre feeds yeah uh so caravans and stuff use general yeah a giant sort of milk bottle sized
[2000.61] Jack: cells huge great suckers yeah but I think we'll probably see them in like you know peter
[2009.97] Jack: people who's made like his little off grid house he was talking about getting some I mean he's got
[2015.65] Jack: leisure batteries for now but there's you know there's there's people talking about them in the
[2021.49] Jack: sort of van life um sort of conversations which is refreshing really because other the only other
[2030.69] Jack: time you hear van life is that poor girl out in uh america who it but she you know who built a lovely
[2039.73] Jack: van and was traveling and her crazy ex boy boyfriend murdered her you know so that is not the
[2047.81] Curry: only I've heard this story it's not the instant thing I think of van life yeah
[2056.93] Stephen: I just think of my mate who's faintly obsessed with recreating the a-team van
[2061.49] Stephen: despite the fact he's he's got a cam a family and is encouraged to act more responsible but
[2066.37] Jack: you know kudos to him he's really going for it firing machine guns and being like I ain't
[2071.65] Stephen: getting on no it's just like in my van all the silly mod pharmacies and slowly pouring into
[2077.17] Stephen: this thing and paneling out with plywood and putting all the batteries I think you put enough
[2081.57] Stephen: batteries in there personally I think probably those vans they're quite tall and the more batteries
[2086.21] Stephen: you can jam under the floor cavity the better just to help a little bit on the corners yeah but then
[2092.53] Stephen: you know the suspension suffers a bit but transits I mean they're built for hauling weight so
[2100.05] Frank: I suppose yeah true this episode was recorded in front of a live online audience downloaded and
[2105.81] Frank: edited to make sense when it played audio only sensors to please the iTunes people hosted on
[2111.09] Frank: the internet forwarded through to your podcast provider downloaded playing on your device and
[2115.49] Frank: is now playing in your ears all thanks to our patreons consider joining them and you'll also
[2120.85] Frank: get other online benefits find out more at patreon.com forward slash let's drone out
[2127.41] Frank: 10 years ago I feel like a lot of RC stuff a lot of RC chargers were built so that you could
[2133.41] Frank: charge batteries off your car but that doesn't seem like that's the thing anymore I haven't heard
[2139.73] Frank: of anyone charging a battery off their car for quite a while yeah the old the old car ones always
[2146.77] Curry: used to have the uh the sort of the normal if you leave the instrument lighter style 12-volt thing
[2153.57] Stephen: yeah I've got a I've got a high end I a really small one and I'm pretty sure that the battery
[2159.73] Stephen: in there is only something like a handful of amp hours like yeah 15 20 amp hours I wouldn't
[2166.53] Curry: necessarily want to go charging perhaps the intention is as you're driving somewhere you
[2172.77] Curry: charge as opposed to just plugging it in when it's off yeah because a lot of these little town
[2176.93] Stephen: cars are basically carrying motorbike batteries and then you need to be a bit careful about how
[2180.77] Frank: much juice you've got in there maybe it's different maybe just maybe like 10 years ago when we're
[2186.77] Frank: triaging like nickel batteries you could quite happily just leave that charging and not worry
[2193.49] Stephen: about it now you're ripping like 50 amps out of the time into your high performance thousand watt
[2199.49] Frank: charger it's a bit more into a lithium battery that if you're driving along you don't want to
[2204.85] Stephen: just have but you've left an extra source of flammable materials vis-a-vis your car yeah
[2212.93] Stephen: that would just be the worst lipo fire ever oh my like my battery is on fire oh it's in my car
[2218.77] Curry: oh yeah yeah richard richard warrick makes a good point here about the old
[2222.29] Curry: full button charger used to come with crocodile clips to attach to car batteries yeah that's what
[2226.69] Curry: you used to bring to the field with you none of these like 20 000 milliamp power 6s that yeah
[2232.77] Stephen: you're not pulling that much current sustained through a crocodile clips are you it's not good
[2238.21] Jack: yeah i think it's the landscape's just changed a bit yeah and i think back a while ago you know
[2245.49] Jack: you kind of like only had like four batteries whereas now with hobby king it's made them
[2253.81] Jack: more affordable and we buy several packs because we only get like three or four minutes out of them
[2260.77] Jack: you know we're now buying a lot more packs and charging a lot more you kind of build up a lipo
[2266.85] Stephen: collection yeah the motors everything just up leveled as well didn't they like people are
[2271.97] Stephen: running much more powerful motors pushing more amps through the motors yeah the drip charged
[2277.17] Jack: his batteries off his f-150 couldn't start it after a day's flying and that's a chunky monkey
[2286.45] Curry: that one it's a big truck are you gonna say curry i can't remember now it was very insightful but i
[2295.09] Jack: lost my track what are we talking about inverters for everyone get back to that company it'd be
[2300.77] Stephen: really nice to see some diy projects that tackle this because a lot of these they're really just
[2305.73] Stephen: taking 18650s and if you buy 18650s also you can get them for pennies well pennies you can get them
[2312.45] Stephen: for about two pound each right um a lot short of the 500 quick costs that you see for these
[2319.41] Stephen: box of 18650s with an arduino on it which is pretty much what the charges are so maybe we'll
[2325.33] Curry: see some open source solutions fix it some people said do a diy kit and it's essentially like some
[2331.65] Curry: batteries some inverters a nice box and like you said something like an arduino to display some
[2338.05] Curry: stuff but um i already got sent one so now i can't be bothered to build it but for unless you'll do
[2345.57] Curry: it it it's really for somebody going away for the weekend camping it's not i don't think it's
[2351.09] Curry: necessarily for us because if you want to charge a bunch of batteries we do what frank does and we
[2354.61] Curry: buy a big battery and you plug it into your charger and you charge off that unless you
[2358.69] Curry: want to you know be overnighting in a tent and you're like you know i need to i need to run my
[2363.41] Curry: little tv because i want to watch insert horrible soap opera here or whatever i don't know or you
[2369.41] Curry: like me and it's like i need my c-pat machine so i might die during the night but at least you
[2373.01] Curry: won't have to suffer that horrendous snoring so you know pros and cons does the c-pat stop the
[2379.65] Jack: snoring it's supposed to just shoving air in it's shoving air in but according to pippa it does not
[2387.73] Curry: stop the snoring especially after thursday night and two beers positive airway pressure
[2395.25] Jack: is that why um when are you coming back to do curry kim wednesday i don't know it's not a good
[2403.57] Curry: time for forza horizon five just came out and that's going to be predicting for next
[2407.25] Jack: um speaking of uh open source and like making your own stuff chad old chad kappa is up to his
[2415.17] Jack: uh old ways and he's he's now um started a electronic hack hack make mod channel i don't
[2425.97] Jack: know whether you guys know about this yeah well i'm clearing my feet but i didn't have to clear
[2430.85] Frank: what it was yeah so david right yeah uh hang on david winnestall oh it looks like it's on there
[2439.73] Stephen: ben hex stuff quite enjoy watching ben hex stuff still he's just a madman out in the woods
[2445.41] Jack: disassembling cheap digital watches now oh i like that um share screen yeah we've got the whole
[2454.61] Jack: like yep there's david and yeah he's released the channel but if you go to videos you can find out
[2460.93] Jack: where this original channel has come from and it's where he uploaded dr dr one movie so he's
[2469.65] Jack: basically recycled the you know couple of thousand things and because that would be why it was in my
[2476.21] Frank: subscriptions i did one though i don't remember subscribing to this wrote a dr one had its own
[2481.57] Stephen: channel didn't it for people whose memory fails them what is dr one wrote dr one was a a community
[2489.97] Frank: made movie that they kind of filmed a bit every week and published every week and then eventually
[2495.09] Frank: it got made into a feature length film that you could uh you know some kind of sci-fi thing yeah
[2502.69] Frank: it's kind of post-apocalyptic uh a boy and his drone that's that's kind of the yeah easiest way
[2509.89] Jack: to synopsize it yeah and had the old tricopter and yeah had a speaker and this was made out of
[2518.77] Jack: you can see the windscreen wipers here and nice little windscreen wipers legs
[2526.45] Jack: how do you go from that to a hacking channel well he's obviously reusing it repurposing it
[2533.09] Jack: because obviously it means that it means that they slip into people's feeds you mean yeah
[2539.89] Jack: yeah it's it's already got a load of subscribers and also you need 1000 subscribers before you can
[2546.53] Jack: monetize so it's already ready to go and monetize sneaky sneaky well let me play the the the hack
[2558.53] Jack: the hack uh hack mod make whatever but this is this is their initial
[2567.97] Jack: they made a vacuum cleaner yeah so far we just had a vacuum cleaner
[2572.93] Stephen: where are the rocket knives more rocket knife cleaning cleaning via rocket knife that's what
[2580.05] Jack: we need so did you see that horrific inappropriate use of that uh saw yeah that's always fun until
[2589.65] Stephen: someone loses a finger yeah so have you seen the uh the shotgun stop systems on saws though
[2598.53] Jack: yes that's pretty pretty bad as well a amount of people like feeding sausages into yeah oh
[2606.21] Stephen: well you wouldn't do it because it it breaks the saw basically well it'll cut you a little bit but
[2613.25] Stephen: it won't sever a finger uh but yeah fires it like a shotgun shell to counter the inertia of the blade
[2620.53] Stephen: and stops it in millimeters as soon as it detects a closed circuit like it's cut you but it also
[2629.97] Stephen: totals the blade and like knackers up the bearings in the saw as well so it's not something you do
[2634.93] Jack: just to see what happens i've seen it i've seen it demonstrated a couple times but i didn't know
[2641.38] Frank: it completely ruined stuff we there's different things right that you can have electromagnetic
[2649.7] Frank: breaks on table saws as well but there there's they're not as this one throws a bar into the
[2656.66] Stephen: blades just throws like a tempered bar straight into the blades to stop it at all costs because
[2662.34] Stephen: it knows it's going to remove parts of your body otherwise yeah cool yeah that's horrendous
[2671.58] Stephen: and just finds it in with a shotgun shell to do it as fast as possible
[2675.34] Jack: so if you wondered why like bono's last album it somehow got into your subscription feed without
[2685.1] Jack: you ever doing that it was it was frozen that was apple just putting it there
[2694.62] Stephen: where's the rocket knife come on now like if there's one thing that would have like got
[2698.78] Stephen: people's interest vacuum cleaners poo poo how are we going to carve our turkey quicker
[2704.38] Jack: this christmas i know where's my knife i thought i i think it was just getting a bit crazy for
[2711.82] Jack: david and uh he also smoked out his um uh barn accidentally with his deep fat fryer full of
[2723.02] Stephen: rocket mix yeah accidentally none of this was a surprise surely like oh wait i've got a deep fat
[2730.38] Stephen: fryer full of rocket fuel oh i've attached rockets to this knife like it's not a stupid guy
[2740.3] Jack: he he dodoed up and managed to set it on fire and smoke out his whole barn
[2745.82] Jack: and uh he had to cut up the track in the end for space so yeah i think there's only so many things
[2756.86] Stephen: you can rocket knife and punch i'm sure you could find a way of doing it without the track
[2764.54] Curry: i think rocket reflaying katana where will it go
[2780.7] Frank: i saw uh just thinking about what's been what else has been in my youtube subscription subscriptions
[2786.22] Frank: recently uh i've seen both painless and barbwell have gone fairly mad with the edge tx i'm sticking
[2794.38] Stephen: that on things time to jump forward guys everyone was asking for open tx 2.4 for years and years
[2802.38] Stephen: well they released that then they released 2.5 and apparently by christmas we'll see 2.6 so
[2808.46] Jack: get on the train let's go so what what made daddy um flash his uh transmitter because people kept
[2819.9] Stephen: sending him fancy radios and he got jelly that he couldn't use the touch screen and other people
[2824.22] Curry: could so i haven't watched watch bardman's video or bardwell in fact um but i i was wondering what
[2833.1] Curry: what what is the case i was still asking what is the case for people that don't have a fancy
[2837.98] Curry: touchscreen and let's ignore the 500 hertz versus 250 hertz other than that what have the romans
[2844.86] Stephen: done for us um so yeah there's the 500 hertz thing which you say you don't care about but
[2852.86] Stephen: i said not to mention it because it's a given so color themes if you want to actually make use of
[2859.42] Stephen: your color screen if you don't have a color screen if you play on a simulator there's a bug
[2866.62] Stephen: which ramps up the simulator latency and makes it feel a bit pants um if you have a radio like
[2873.66] Stephen: the nirvana um if you just just want a bit of a change and you're curious which is what
[2880.62] Stephen: drew me in and i'm quite keen for them to release the the yaml config file stuff because i think
[2886.46] Stephen: it's easier to manage configs if i can read them rather than using companion so it's interesting
[2892.3] Curry: so it it does sound like that at the moment it's still uh you get touchscreen and good color
[2897.66] Curry: support and you get the 500 hertz support and eventually they have your yaml but other than that
[2904.14] Curry: i still it's not broken if it's not broken don't fix it you know it's not that i don't think edge
[2908.7] Curry: tx is looking good i just don't know if there's like a real good if it's not broken don't fix it
[2915.34] Stephen: man like you don't need to upgrade um in the same ways you know you could carry on flying like
[2921.74] Stephen: d8 and that's fine if it's not broken and you haven't got a load of money sloshing around
[2926.38] Stephen: going holding the pocket it's so broken but you know people would say that about edges about open
[2933.74] Stephen: tx as well and that's why people put the time into it in their minds it was broken but it's not
[2939.74] Frank: necessarily bad like open tx still works it's fine as as clive is saying like an old x90
[2946.7] Frank: tyrannis like that doesn't have any of those things that is there's no reason to upgrade it
[2954.54] Stephen: yet is there if you're happy like you're happy you don't need to go chasing the next shiny shiny
[2960.14] Stephen: thing you can just enjoy flying right where's this video on open t on edge tx uh bardwells one
[2969.34] Frank: no um painless i imagine if you search painless 360 edge tx maybe you'll find it have you seen
[2979.98] Curry: this site called google jack vodka at the middle man go straight to youtube and then do a search
[2985.02] Jack: might be quicker well i don't know i just i thought it'd be a recent video and this
[2993.34] Stephen: painless has been covering that stuff for a while like this isn't this isn't new though
[2997.58] Stephen: like i said they pushed out like 2.4 release and a 2.5 release and now they're moving on to 2.6 so
[3003.02] Stephen: they're two releases uh in in the bag already like he's probably done it a few months ago
[3008.22] Curry: i thought i accidentally got sent a tx 16 i was quite excited it was from this company called w
[3015.26] Curry: fly and it turns out it looks exactly like one and has a color touchscreen but it's their own os
[3022.38] Curry: which that was sneaky i saw that that was sneaky yeah so it's not what is their deal because
[3028.62] Stephen: they're essentially charging tx 16s money but they're giving you something that isn't
[3033.1] Curry: well it could be the fact that there is enough people that are confused with open tx enough to
[3042.06] Curry: want the standard radio now this is not going to make any sense to at least me and you steven
[3046.7] Curry: because we're stupid computer nerds and thus open tx and it's ilk makes sense but other people
[3054.3] Curry: they tend to like a 250 page manual and all these wizards that say what are you flying oh what
[3061.66] Curry: surfaces do you have in which case it just says right well this is your dual rates and this is
[3066.78] Curry: this switch does this and this switch does that and that's that's what you got there's a market
[3071.34] Stephen: for that like the orca stuff that's come out right so that's the latest i was just just showing my
[3076.3] Stephen: silly i've got a guitar strap and put it on my tx 16 because i wanted a nice strap i actually
[3082.38] Stephen: sewed it i spent watched a bunch of sci-fi shows and sewed this so yeah sorry as a tutorial i'm
[3090.94] Stephen: confused sci-fi shows showed you how to no i was i was just bored it takes a long time to sew through
[3098.86] Stephen: thick webbing so it took took a while um but yeah it's nicer than the ethics strap i could just
[3106.22] Jack: imagine curry like switching on that radio and like what are you flying none of your business
[3111.1] Jack: my aircraft i'm not telling you there's a sort of bloke who gets into taxi and they're like
[3117.1] Jack: where do you want to go to uh take that tone with me sir yeah yeah that's the other thing
[3123.26] Curry: it started talking to me it says stuff like trim center i was like who was saying that there's no
[3128.14] Curry: sd card slot what's going on where are you so have you seen the orca announcement as well
[3134.22] Stephen: yelling at clouds no i'd curry so no orca have released a controller with no screen and a phone
[3142.7] Stephen: app like something i think they really should have done with edge tx because that's the screen on
[3147.9] Stephen: your radio is crap compared to the screen that you do everything else on your phone so they've got
[3153.02] Stephen: bluetooth connection to your phone and you just use your phone but for some unobvious reason likely
[3160.22] Stephen: involving a brown paper bag full of 50s it only works with immersion rc ghost and they've
[3166.06] Stephen: developed a special module size that only fits in that radio because it wasn't irritating enough
[3173.02] Stephen: trying to install modules on radios so they put another form factor in there well that killed it
[3178.62] Frank: i was i was ready to throw some money there that's you still can because you can flash
[3186.46] Jack: you can flash you can flash it's a good idea though right like you use your phone and you've
[3192.7] Stephen: got that nice touch screen instead of a poopy touch screen because even that's a nice radio
[3196.94] Stephen: but it's not great and you can have like regular easy updates from an app that updates itself and
[3203.26] Stephen: then you can connect to your config and it pushes stuff out to the radio it's a cute idea i can't
[3208.94] Curry: agree what what i think there's there's something for like just like the minimal information because
[3214.7] Curry: most of the time if i'm in the field and i've got a bunch of quads with me the most i might do is say
[3219.26] Curry: okay i'm flying this i need you to change my model and you know i might have some things with
[3223.9] Curry: telemetry that could send stuff back but most of the time i just want to say swap to like model
[3228.54] Curry: number four which is this quad and i feel that's a faff to do on a phone screen but set up for a
[3233.66] Curry: phone screen and stuff like that makes perfect sense because you won't be doing it all the time
[3238.06] Curry: but once you've got it it's like i want model one model two model three without having to take
[3243.02] Stephen: you can do wizards and you can have rich content that like leads you through the process of
[3248.3] Stephen: configuring stuff on a phone and you've got the application environment to develop that whereas on
[3253.02] Stephen: a radio you've got to build all that stuff from the ground up and it's just onerous and slow and
[3258.22] Frank: no one bothers yeah don't build a phone into the radio just yeah exactly who was that was that
[3268.3] Stephen: fataba who built the phone into the radio and put android on it i think quite a few people have done
[3274.78] Frank: that sort of thing so it's a waste of money on the radio pop that in yeah yeah
[3282.06] Stephen: well we'll see how it goes maybe they'll start a trend you know
[3285.42] Jack: you know and be like hey so-and-so i would like model four i'm like oh bbc radio four no
[3303.1] Curry: it's like what you mean return to home it's gonna be like
[3306.54] Curry: phoning jack no
[3307.66] Frank: oh you just fly you know you're just happily flying along and then like someone else
[3316.06] Frank: asks their series something and all of a sudden yeah yeah you're upside down the tree yeah
[3322.86] Jack: oh yeah because you'd be all on the same it'd be like hey orca
[3330.7] Jack: model seven okay he changes model seven everyone's just a model seven
[3337.66] Stephen: oh it's an interesting trend it does need a bit of a bump because this radio came out
[3345.66] Stephen: i think the tx16 is probably about 18 months old now so it's nice to see things are actually
[3350.62] Stephen: moving on it's healthy there's also a tea light v2 coming out which looks like someone sort of
[3356.86] Curry: mashed up a tango in a tea light did i see as well that um um elrs have got a new release
[3364.06] Stephen: candidate for version two yeah so there is a laundry list of elrs stuff so now all the
[3370.7] Stephen: modules within asp i think can run themselves as a bluetooth gamepad that's built in they've got
[3377.98] Stephen: the ability to run OLED screens and if your radio doesn't work with a lower you can use a button
[3383.74] Stephen: soon after 2.0 i think that's going 2.1 lots of funky little features RGB LEDs just i haven't
[3392.86] Stephen: got the list up i've gone i've gone hidden it somewhere but if anyone else has the list
[3398.54] Curry: that would explain the sudden influx of um OLED screens i noticed yeah for god's sakes
[3405.18] Curry: namimno had one and i just got sent this from bfpv which seems to have little screen yeah
[3412.22] Stephen: there's some controversy around that one because they said that they've got a pr and it's going
[3416.46] Stephen: to work with the main code but they haven't told any of the developers about that so far
[3421.02] Curry: developers just like well what is this you only have to disassemble it to make it bind
[3427.5] Stephen: yeah so they haven't told the developers about any of their code yet so we've we've also got
[3434.3] Stephen: dynamic power now it can ramp up power if it sees the rssi dbm drop um it can join your home wi-fi
[3442.78] Stephen: network automagically so when you join wi-fi you won't have to jump over to their own access point
[3448.22] Stephen: it'll just join your home wi-fi and then your pc can go find your tx or rx and update it kiss
[3454.94] Stephen: lure is supported uh hilariously you can now use tbs agent light because it's fully compatible not
[3462.86] Stephen: just with crossfire for control but for menus so tbs agent light works perfectly on elrs version
[3471.18] Stephen: two as well as crossfire and tracer um you can ramp up to the board rate if you've got a radio
[3477.34] Stephen: that takes it which your qx7 and x9d and all these older radios won't but if you've got one
[3483.5] Stephen: that isn't bugged with the uh the old slow board problem you can go from 400 kilobit to four
[3489.34] Stephen: megabit which means that your data is just shoveling through faster and that drops latency a bit
[3495.66] Stephen: and what and and and fixed wing posse there's now a bunch of patches in that convert regular
[3502.62] Stephen: rx's to pwm output just on a standard rx that the little happy model ep ones you know they've got
[3511.18] Stephen: that boot pad yeah so you can repurpose the boot pad and the rx and the tx pads as three pwm outputs
[3519.5] Stephen: and just run pwm on your fixed wing from that it's only three on the tip the tiny rx's because
[3524.46] Stephen: they don't have many pads but the bigger ones go up to five channels i believe oh that's good
[3529.98] Stephen: because everything else managed to do that yeah so now that's the smallest pwm option available
[3536.46] Jack: i believe what about um if you've got the 2019 version of the terranus does that support faster
[3544.94] Stephen: than have you done the inverter mod do i need to yes almost certainly unless it's got the fixed
[3554.14] Jack: inverter is it got fast inverters uh i never noticed a problem with that the 2019 version
[3564.38] Stephen: terranus uh use the wiki and find out send me the link to the wiki
[3573.98] Stephen: express lrs.org
[3577.5] Stephen: sorry i'm not i'm not the fountain of like arcane hardware knowledge i can i can go there now and
[3583.18] Curry: read off the website but it's about i'll just mention as well that um who sent this oh richard
[3589.42] Curry: warrick has sent a link to uh hobbyrc who are who are selling the matek crsf to six channel pwm
[3597.66] Curry: converter which is a nice little thing because it's only like under a fiver uh which is another
[3604.3] Curry: way of of just adding pwm channels to uh crsf receiver like elrs or crossfire or whatever you
[3613.66] Stephen: like oh yeah those are handy they've got uh some telemetry as well haven't they because there's
[3619.34] Stephen: the matek boards yeah yeah so there's a big one and a small one uh a six channel and a ten channel
[3626.3] Stephen: they've both got vbat telemetry so they'll actually you can run your vbat in there and
[3630.38] Stephen: it'll tell you vbat which is nice bonus and the big one has a current meter and gps as well so
[3635.5] Stephen: you can even it's halfway to being a flight controller the big one you can plug a gps into
[3639.58] Frank: it it'll send back gps data to your radio out of interest with those express lrs pwm outputs
[3646.94] Frank: do you know if they're are they like purely mapped one-to-one to the channel or are they
[3651.18] Frank: like mixing somehow like if you're one two three as far as i know yeah because you were saying
[3657.1] Frank: like there's five on the bigger ones there's five pwm outputs how are they because it wasn't
[3666.86] Frank: isn't this coming up against that hard limit of how many oh yeah that's a good point i actually
[3672.46] Stephen: don't know um so you may find that the four you've got four channels at full range and then you'd
[3678.78] Stephen: have seven bit so instead of 1024 value you're dropping down to seven bit which is 128 value
[3688.06] Frank: so your low precision potential so i was thinking it would be it would be quite good if they if you
[3694.54] Frank: could just kind of mix the like the actual full channels that you've got into multiple different
[3701.98] Frank: outputs so like for example if you've got flaperons then you don't need though there is some work
[3708.38] Stephen: someone's done under the name pwmp someone who likes unpronounceable project names i think it's
[3716.38] Stephen: captain bryer i think maybe got me wrong maybe forgot the wrong def but he did this cr servo f
[3723.18] Stephen: thing and uh he's also done this and as far as i know he's basically used the same hardware but
[3729.26] Stephen: completely re-engineered the protocol and he's thrown out a lot of the the the packet size
[3734.94] Stephen: limitations and and packet frame formatting in that way he may have just broken compatibility
[3740.94] Stephen: with the other real rs stuff but giving you more channels at full range so the there's a hardware
[3748.86] Stephen: mod for x9d i'm afraid i don't know about tyrannis i've never owned one myself um leaping straight
[3754.7] Stephen: from my ancient deviation radio onto a t light and t x 16s so um but yeah there's there's
[3762.94] Stephen: definitely some bugs with uh the x7 brackets s i don't know what what this is
[3773.5] Stephen: i'm sure you know tyrannis way better than i just never had to dabble um would you like to see us
[3779.18] Stephen: out because you've done such a brilliant intro oh thanks jack well thank you everyone who's
[3785.42] Stephen: watching us and today we have been joined by everyone's favorite curry kitten goodbye
[3791.5] Stephen: patreon frank hello thank you so much and our grand overlord and master the organizer frank
[3800.3] Frank: bye i've been stephen and this has been let's try now make sure to like and subscribe and comment
[3807.9] Frank: and you can find us hit the bell repeatedly and share the link and pocket casts and print off our
[3817.58] Frank: logo yeah through people's doors if anyone wants a scarf i might have a spare scarf going
[3824.46] Frank: uh you can probably get some stickers off of jack if you touch him nicely maybe after googling
[3830.14] Stephen: repeatedly i found out that there is actually a site that does ldo t-shirts um which we're
[3834.78] Stephen: terrible at advertising it's on spreadshirt so if you want to buy one there's that oh you can find
[3840.46] Frank: it by going to letstroneout.com and then clicking on shop i think if that still works
[3847.58] Jack: if you listen to this and you have people you fly with
[3851.1] Stephen: tell them about it because no one listens anymore smallest violin in the world
[3860.46] Jack: good night telemetry lost
