[1616.11] Stephen: watch the whole thing. But you can see them like haul ass around a corner with a mini quad,
[1619.95] Stephen: can't you? When they're trailing some of those cars, and you just know instantly,
[1624.27] Tony: what film was that? The Netflix? Yeah.
[1633.6] Stephen: So this is encouraging artistic professionals like this creative industry.
[1638.08] Tony: I was sitting around with my friends out shouting.
[1641.68] Jack: I think me and Frank kind of bonded with was like, I wanted to try and figure out something
[1656.32] Jack: to do with drones and art. And it was like, there was three people who were very sort of like into
[1665.04] Jack: that. It was me, Chipco, and Frank, you know, Frank was like designing like clip on prop
[1672.0] Jack: adapters and stuff for like, speed clip on and that and there was like,
[1678.8] Jack: you know, and taking like photographs and and David, David with his like, LOMO.
[1686.16] Jack: Is it low? Yeah, LOMO,ography, you know, tricopter, where he attached a servo. And,
[1694.08] Jack: you know, it was like shooting shots with a with a film camera, basically. And, you know,

[1928.4] Tony: Yeah, that is not the honest truth. I told the story before I was drunk one night,
[1938.48] Tony: saw it with a friend. I thought it was.
[1944.64] Tony: No, I think it was Laura's brother. And it was who does beat your flight? Who was the first person
[1953.44] Tony: to be flying around over trees in that. So the first thing I went out and done is bought a
[1960.16] Tony: DJI Phantom. Then realized that doesn't work. I did FPV it, but I couldn't dive over trees and do
[1969.76] Jack: that sort of stuff. It was it was mad. Like, what happened to the ones on YouTube? What made me do
[1978.24] Jack: it? What happened to your quad that was basically a mini quad, but had a DJI NASA in it?
[1987.18] Tony: Do you still own it?
[1992.06] Tony: Yeah, it's in my loft.
[1994.62] Jack: In your loft. I've never seen it. I've never. Why isn't it in the trophy room?
[2001.5] Tony: It was it was like thin cinema thing. I can't believe I crammed all that stuff in there. And
[2009.9] Tony: it flew. It was bubblegum holding it together, chewing gum, everything. It worked though. But
[2017.1] Tony: yeah, it's not trophy worthy. It's attic worthy.
[2022.14] Jack: Yeah, it was just it was bizarre like watching your old videos of you like trying to fly
[2029.66] Jack: manual and then just like just barely being able to like lift it off the floor without
[2037.74] Tony: like jumping into stuff. I know I was just doing this throttle control took ages.
[2045.9] Tony: I think that's why I still pinch on that on that side. I pinch on that side and thumb on the other.
[2052.7] Stephen: I've given my quads to a bunch of people to fly in the throttle control is always the one that
[2056.94] Stephen: they obviously like can't intuitively get always like just up and down, up and down, up and down.
[2063.1] Tony: Yeah, that was me going through HQ props like they were going out of fashion.
[2071.6] Tony: We didn't have unbreakable props back then, did we?
[2074.24] Jack: I know we had props that, you know, the wind would change. I remember I remember flying like me,
[2081.52] Jack: me, Oscar and Dan Upton were flying like this oval. And it was basically like NASCAR for like
[2087.92] Jack: drones. And we just got there. Nothing is filled. And it was just like this oval is like just go as
[2094.32] Jack: fast as you can. And we, you know, we were doing like hot, like, you know, quite like fast hot
[2101.04] Jack: laps. And then after about three or four laps, you'd crash out for no reason because the props
[2107.84] Jack: just explode. That was only three years as well.
[2116.0] Jack: You know, we're all like shouting each other. Who hit me? And it weren't. It was like, no one's near
[2121.44] Jack: you. Like they just explode. And, you know, like the you go to get your quads and then there was no
[2131.12] Jack: hub on the on on the, you know, prop nut. Yeah. You know, like the center like it shattered
[2141.2] Tony: the whole but they were they were the days I most most enjoyed because it was so new. And so
[2148.64] Tony: it was just so cool. I still knock the props clean off.
[2153.04] Stephen: But then I fly through trees quite a lot of straight through the forest.
[2157.44] Stephen: That's why there's a fly through the hub. Yeah. Yeah, they don't like get those trees.
[2162.8] Jack: I remember like being really buzzed off the fact that you could see your own FPV shadow.
[2169.6] Jack: Fly around to be like looking at that and then not hit a tree or crash into the ground.
[2175.36] Tony: Good old days. I'd go out and even if it was frosty and windy and freezing still just to fly.
[2183.44] Tony: Now I'll just go nope, I ain't going out.
[2188.16] Stephen: Now we've seen these gloves. Now we're all getting our Astro gloves.
[2195.52] Tony: I want the puke jacket thing.

[2204.8] Tony: Yeah, I think that's the reason why I went to DJI from the analog. I felt well sick when it
[2215.52] Tony: such a massive screen. I had to actually put it down.
[2220.4] Tony: What were your goggles? The analog goggles? Still got them V2.
[2224.4] Stephen: I was coming from Skyzone 2s and I didn't find the DJI screen was like that much bigger.
[2238.56] Stephen: I did notice most people have like the big face mask on the SkyO2s and I had just like the rubber
[2244.24] Stephen: grommets that like go on like swimming goggles. So the screen is like right next to my eyeballs.
[2250.56] Tony: That's why I have more V2 but the screen's so tiny.
[2255.7] Stephen: That was my first experience. Someone in the States showed me FPV goggles and it put me off
[2260.74] Stephen: for ages because the screens were really tiny and I could, they were so small, like I could
[2265.86] Stephen: barely read the OSD text and I was just like, what is this? I'm not doing this. And then I bought
[2272.18] Stephen: some and I was like, oh, these are much better. He must have had crap goggles. Fair enough.
[2276.34] Jack: Yeah, I remember like the old teleporters and stuff like that.
[2279.78] Jack: Yeah, that's what he had. They were just so, it was like FPV goggles but the screens were made of
[2287.78] Stephen: Casio watches. I could tell there were digits on the screen but I couldn't actually make out the
[2295.3] Stephen: numerals and I don't wear glasses or anything. So I should have been able to read it but it was just
[2300.1] Stephen: so blurred out and there was almost no contrast on the image. So struggle. I remember before I
[2307.3] Frank: had my fat sharks, I spent ages looking at the head plays. Is that the right name for them?
[2314.58] Jack: Yeah, the big old fat screen. The receiver in them was absolute dog. That is the technical term.
[2325.46] Jack: It was the amount that I saw like come back and that you'd be wearing it and the receiver would
[2333.14] Jack: just change channel. You're like, no, you're not on that channel anymore. Or like it just went to
[2341.78] Jack: what I can only describe as the tab of acid mode where colours were just flicker.
[2349.78] Frank: I never experienced that but whenever they were being handed round like someone's bonds,
[2354.26] Frank: whatever, I'd put them on and be like, whoa, this is the future.
[2360.74] Stephen: I started off with quantum box goggles and those are similar to the head plays. I thought I had them
[2366.02] Stephen: around here but I don't. The field of view on those was absolutely amazing. It was a balance
[2372.5] Jack: as you get on the DJI. Yeah, but you know, so strapping and duct taping like CRT.
[2383.14] Stephen: They did weigh a bit. Not as much as you might think because the battery was. They didn't have
[2388.82] Stephen: a battery in them or anything. They've got a little bit of pressure on the nose but then
[2393.7] Jack: you get that with the DJI ones as well. I sort of worry that like when will DJI get bored of
[2401.78] Jack: making us goggles? Have they got bored already? Yeah, have they got bored? How long before A,
[2410.82] Jack: they give it to CanX or B, never release any ever again. We're just like squabbling and fighting
[2417.22] Jack: over what's left like sort of Mad Max. We're all doing another pair now.
[2425.94] Tony: Because like in the flu analog, I did that FEV and airsoft shoot the other day and I don't think
[2436.42] Tony: I could have done that with analog but flying all that way. Too much scraggle. Yeah, there's loads
[2442.98] Tony: of scraggle and I was all beyond because there's lots of trees flying through and people and
[2448.1] Stephen: but actually the shock bite with scraggle is beautiful. It's worked really well. I'm not
[2453.54] Tony: experienced at all but yeah, I just couldn't have done it when analog goes. It would have been
[2460.58] Stephen: terrible. You can fly with scraggle on analog but you can't fly smoothly because you can only see
[2467.3] Stephen: the scraggle like half a second before you hit it so you're always jumping around. With DJI you can
[2472.58] Stephen: plan a course and just slide through. I do like the shock bite though. I'm warming to shock bite
[2480.98] Stephen: apart from the fact that the VTXs are still too damn expensive like the cheapest one is 45 quid
[2486.5] Jack: which is stupid. I mean it's only 15 pound more than a normal VTX. It's not normal VTX. I fly
[2497.22] Jack: 15 quid Banggood specials like the open VTX stuff. Yeah, true. All right, I mean like you know premium
[2503.86] Tony: like you know premium VTX exactly right. You can spend a lot of money. They used to be big
[2510.34] Tony: 40, 50 quid, 60 quid we used to pay didn't we actually thinking about it. Four shillings and
[2517.06] Stephen: aprons. It's only when the quantity the production quantity goes up the price is going to come down
[2522.18] Tony: right. The immersion, 60 quid they were. What about the cameras as well for shock bite?
[2530.5] Stephen: They're somewhere between 40 and 50 quid I think. I think the HD01 I got was like 45.
[2538.98] Stephen: I can't remember off the top of my head but I think I don't think you can get a camera below
[2542.18] Frank: about 40 quid. So about 60 quid all up to have a new quad. About 90, 90 quid
[2552.82] Stephen: for shock bite setup and if you shop around you can find like some cheap ass DJI vista setup.
[2559.94] Stephen: Like you can import one of the flywoo ones like I've got kicking around here. I still mean to
[2564.42] Stephen: build for I think about 115 quid. So it's still annoyingly close to the full DJI setup which is
[2573.94] Frank: going to give you like five times as much range. FX mode is asking if Open HD is still too laggy.
[2581.78] Frank: Unfortunately we don't have Curry with us this week to give us his latest ongoing stuff. I am
[2589.62] Stephen: obsessed with reading about Open HD though so I actually did a bunch of research on this.
[2596.74] Stephen: Yeah you pushed about the Jetson Nano. Yeah some lunatic strapped a Jetson Nano
[2602.58] Stephen: to a quad and for those who aren't aware Jetson Nano is like a full-on development board. It's
[2607.46] Stephen: the size of a TV box right. So imagine like a CD case type size for those who old enough to
[2613.3] Stephen: remember CDs and it's about three centimeters thick and about 10 centimeters on a side. This
[2621.46] Stephen: is not immediately something you think oh yeah that'll fit in a quad but this guy like jammed
[2626.02] Stephen: it into a quad and managed to fly without it falling off and hitting the props which I think
[2630.26] Stephen: deserves some kudos. This is certainly not something you'd want to freestyle with and
[2634.9] Stephen: after all this he managed to get down from the hundred maybe 80 milliseconds he was seeing with
[2640.1] Stephen: the Raspberry Pi down to about 60 milliseconds and if you're following the conversation most
[2645.54] Stephen: people would call 60 milliseconds latency pretty s**t. Compared to SharkBite and DJI you're talking
[2652.26] Stephen: 35 40 that kind of ballpark maybe a bit lower if you believe DJI's boasts but when people do tests
[2659.38] Stephen: it doesn't really look like much beyond beyond 35 glass to glass but you can get okay so you've now
[2666.9] Stephen: you've open sourced this and you've got it down to a decent level it's working but still you've
[2671.78] Stephen: got something that's like a brick on like imagine getting a mini PC like you might plug into your
[2678.42] Stephen: TV like one of those old style Apple TV boxes and you've like crammed that down decased onto
[2686.58] Frank: the top of a quad. Yeah the Jetson Nano is like a Raspberry Pi on steroids it's like a quad core
[2695.38] Frank: two gigahertz like crazy version of a Raspberry Pi. With a massive heat sink so all that heat
[2702.1] Stephen: sink's a big block of metal as well so there's plenty of weight in there. So it's just time and
