[76.51] Jack: The Speedy B-E-S-E.

[81.51] Jack: So this, apparently, if it doesn't explode, you can flash the new firmware and then your motors go on fire.
[92.51] Curry: I used this Speedy B-E-S-E product. They just burst into flames.
[100.55] Jack: Well, this new year, it's now 10 degrees hotter in here.
[105.55] Jack: Yes, they let curry back into the country. How was your little trip?
[112.55] Curry: The trip was, well, the holiday was nice. The getting around was painful for anybody else considering it.
[120.55] Curry: The amount of paperwork you have to fill in, which is very vague.
[125.55] Curry: You know government paperwork can't ask you a straight answer or question.
[129.55] Curry: So it's always hard to fill in.
[131.55] Curry: And then you have to do PCR tests where you have to, it's like, you have to do PCR tests like 48 hours before your flight.
[139.55] Curry: But get the results back quick enough in order to then fill in the paperwork that needs to be in a certain amount of time.
[145.55] Curry: And then every single country wanted their own trace form and they want you to download apps and stuff and do more tests.
[155.55] Curry: And you have to wear a mask on the plane all the way, which wouldn't be a problem.
[160.55] Curry: But my wife said, let's buy the masks that are really safe.
[164.55] Curry: And they are good if you want to wear them for half an hour. If you wear them for eight hours, you will suffocate because they're so good at filtrating stuff.
[172.55] Curry: They also filtrate the air and you can no longer breathe. So you just end up doing basic masks.
[179.55] Curry: But yeah, it was fine. But we got Ping today to say, oh, someone on your plane has been diagnosed with Covid.
[187.55] Curry: Do another test, even though we've already done PCR tests, getting home and natural flow tests and blah, blah, blah, blah.
[193.55] Curry: So unless you really, really want to be away, don't don't bother because it's just it's stressful.
[200.55] Curry: Or go somewhere a bit nearer.

[217.55] Jack: So, yeah, I've been I've been working on that. That's what I've been up to.
[221.55] Jack: I've I've ripped out the old V V2.
[229.55] Jack: The V2 is now gone. The tech ESC is gone. That's a firecracker.
[237.55] Jack: The I don't need an external PDB anymore. And yeah, all in all, like just, you know, kind of getting making, you know, look how clean that is empty in there.
[254.55] Jack: Looks good. So, yeah, thank you so much. So, yeah, these are like rarers rocking horse.
[264.55] Curry: So steal it. So you've been doing actual drone related stuff.
[269.55] Jack: Yeah, man. Yeah. I've heard nothing but good things about the the kiss ultra.
[277.55] Jack: I hear the van overs now flying it for freestyle, the crunked tune.
[285.55] Jack: My buddy Cole told me that that's I think now is the default settings.
[289.55] Jack: If not, then, Cole. So, yeah, man, there's some serious stuff going down.
[296.55] Jack: When are you going to follow it then? When's the test?
[300.55] Jack: I don't know, man. I I've got to wait sometime in January. I've got to wait for some.
[307.55] Jack: Well, I've got to find I've got to find a VTX first. So once I've done that, that will that will help.
[318.96] Jack: And, you know, I'm also waiting on, you know, fail safe FPV.
[326.96] Jack: He he he's done me like a little kit for for a express LRS.
[337.96] Jack: So I need a recommendation of a receiver for that. Yeah, Vanova is a team pilot.
[343.96] Jack: Yeah. So, oh, yeah, I need a I need a small enough VTX to go on there.
[352.96] Curry: How is that, Frank? You had a VTX in it already that you took out, didn't you? What happened to that one?
[358.96] Jack: It's five volt without the, you know, power for it.
[365.96] Jack: The only way to get five volt is to then pull it from the flight controller.
[370.96] Jack: And, you know, obviously, a VTX uses a lot of current. And I don't think the flight controller voltage.
[378.96] Jack: I could provide the five volts. Yeah. So I'll be browning out, I think.
[388.96] Jack: Well, you do that quite often. It's kind of your thing. He says, can anyone help trying to download B to flight 10.8 for four point three.
[400.96] Jack: But my Windows laptop keeps stopping it because of a security risk.
[404.96] Jack: Use APX APEX power board to VTX. No biggie. Yeah, that's good. Does mean D pin in the rest of this.
[414.96] Jack: So I don't know or find a really small back, I guess.
[419.96] Tony: Next time I do anything with any of the B to flight stuff, it would be God knows what.
[427.96] Jack: I haven't touched my stuff for so long. Well, I mean, the weather's been awful.
[433.96] Jack: Frank's doing all right, but he's kind of, you know, he's kind of feeling a bit.
[440.96] Jack: So he's taking a break from the show for a bit because he's a bit like, you know, because, you know, kind of like turn around like I haven't flown in ages.
[453.96] Jack: But like we all haven't really flown much, have we?
[457.96] Tony: Well, the weather's pants, the restrictions and go in here and there and meeting ups well, didn't it? At the moment, I know.
[466.96] Tony: It's been raining a week as well. Yeah.
[472.96] Jack: So, yeah, that's what I've been I've been doing, really. I've got back, done some more organizing,
[479.96] Jack: caught up with the lovely Greg from Menace RC and chatted about the LED and everything.
[488.96] Jack: Yes, I've been doing that.
[491.56] Jack: Cory, have you got anything to show up that you've been playing with or did you come back and there's nothing?
[498.96] Curry: I've kind of come back and there's nothing. I was playing with this recently, which is called a WIO terminal,
[508.56] Curry: which is it's kind of interesting because I thought it'd be a good test to what it is.
[513.16] Curry: It's an Arduino board. Let me see if I can plug it in.
[518.56] Curry: It's Arduino compatible board with a screen and.
[526.96] Curry: And physical buttons and stuff, and you can program it to do stuff.
[532.36] Curry: And I thought this would be fun as a little module to do stuff with.
[538.56] Curry: And at the moment, this is not got any program downloaded on it.
[541.76] Curry: So it's just going to light up pathetically, which is no fun at all.
[546.56] Curry: I thought there was something on it, but it's not. And yeah, at the moment, I've just got it wired up to GPS.
[551.96] Curry: And I was writing a little program to show you where you live.
[557.16] Curry: No, it's not that sometimes, you know, when you if you connect to GPS and you don't get an instant response on your quad,
[563.56] Curry: you're like, is this GPS working? And my often the case is like, oh, I know what I'll do.
[569.96] Curry: I'll hook it up to an Arduino and I'll write some code just to dump out the raw any any strings.
[575.76] Curry: And then I'll look at that on my computer. But that's quite complicated.
[580.36] Curry: I thought, I wonder if it's a bit easier if you just could have this little tool that you use.
[585.46] Curry: Unfortunately, it's still slightly complicated by the fact that you've got these Raspberry Pi compatible GPS pins.
[591.46] Curry: So that's like connected up to the the GPS rather haphazardly.
[597.36] Curry: But in theory, I should also be able to use the USB to connect to a flight controller and look at beta flight stuff or connect to a server and use server stuff.
[609.46] Curry: So I was I was messing around with that recently.
[611.66] Curry: You know, I've got it. So it it sort of reads and decodes like GPS strings so you can actually see if that's working until I do something else with it.
[620.66] Curry: But I just thought it was an interesting thing if you're into playing with that sort of stuff, because having the screen built in is is kind of a big deal because now you've got a little like a little standalone computer that's very easy to program.
[633.56] Jack: It's got lots of input and output. So is that I remember when you had to download.
[641.46] Jack: You blocks and like configure and turn a load of stuff off and then turn a load of stuff on on the GPS module and like basically reflash it before it would work.
[653.76] Jack: And I'm guessing it's kind of the same interface where you're like seeing what data is coming from it.
[661.26] Curry: Well, most GPS is just they can all be programmed and like you boxes have their own coding language so you can talk to them directly.
[671.16] Curry: But if you just turn them on just about all of them say I'm going to talk at ninety six hundred board and I'm just going to output enemy strings, which is just raw ASCII and so you can dump that out.
[683.46] Curry: And that at least tells you that, oh, I know my my read and writes are the right way around.
[688.56] Curry: And then what you can do because the other problem is if you're testing it on a computer often, if you're where I am in here, I don't get a signal.
[696.76] Curry: And I get a really long line and try to win a window or with this, I could just go outside and pop it in the garden and I can see it like collect satellites and then get a better position and stuff like that.
[711.46] Curry: So I thought it was quite cool. Yeah, I also got my Christmas present from my wife and family, which is this GoPro 10 here, which is lovely, but probably won't be going on a quad.
[723.76] Curry: But it is a really nice it's very nice for filming underwater because I was on a holiday and filming fish and it's really good for sort of vlogging, which I often do.
[735.42] Curry: If you've seen my my lovely videos, you'll often see me sat on the floor saying, hello, the weather's terrible.
[740.66] Curry: I'm going to fly here. And, yeah, this would be my new camera for doing that because it's got a screen at the front, so I guess I.
[748.86] Curry: It's very heavy, though. I know people put these on quads, but it's like heavy, but very cool.
[756.68] Curry: I was filming in 4K 120 for underwater stuff, which is really handy because when the fish move out of the way, you can just slow it down and look, it's so gentle.
[768.24] Curry: Look at them move. Yeah, that would be nice to have 4K 120. You can do in 2.7K 240, which is pretty cool as well.
[780.46] Curry: I bet that's quite crisp. Yeah. And it's got like, what's the stabilization called? I've got dementia.
[790.97] Curry: Hypersmooth. Hypersmooth version four, which is even more, more smooth than version three was, I suppose.
[798.81] Tony: Yeah, yeah. That's what they do. I've seen the mountain bike footage on chest. I wear mine on my chest like playing air soft or mountain biking and looking at the seven to ten is amazing, the difference.
[814.89] Tony: Literally looks so much better. You can actually watch people's mountain bike videos going down hills and not feel sick.
[823.65] Tony: So, yeah, it's pretty nice. I might have to buy one of them, but I'm waiting for my waiting for other bits to turn up first.
[831.53] Curry: Oh, God. Yeah, I think one one thing we could we could cover, because as as you might notice, our dear viewers, we are struggling for content right now because the world is horrible and no one's gone out.
[843.73] Curry: What one of the plans for next year or what are we trying to accomplish? What are we doing?
[849.01] Curry: Well, on this on this podcast. Well, let's not a podcast, but in terms of flying or building or doing stuff and, you know, just like that.
[860.53] Jack: Yeah, get out and, you know, fly and fly the ultra really. That's my that's my main sort of like objective, I think.
[876.21] Tony: I know you, Tony, I need to rebuild my ex-class. I probably won't rebuild it. I probably scrap that frame and everything.
[885.65] Tony: And is it going up to like 14S, Tony? Well, I'm still not sure because that's a bit more money and Martin's in the throes of changing or having another ex-class design.
[901.01] Tony: So which you saw at the at the latest. Doobie, we went to went to say, yeah, hopefully I'll be flying a new ex-class this season or this coming next year.
[915.41] Jack: Hopefully, is it? Is that the 3D printed thing? He's uploaded photos on Insta or something else?
[923.17] Tony: Yeah, it's Kerry had it on his channel a couple. Maybe it doesn't watch my videos anymore.
[930.13] Jack: I do. I said, you know, you said your chat. My chat lines don't work on you anymore.
[935.65] Jack: Did they, though? I did. Have you still got that piece of the the Mavic 2 clone thing that was really awful that didn't that didn't like you literally took 10 hours to get it to film you.
[950.69] Jack: And then it lost GPS lock and then just started flying away, just returned to home immediately.
[959.01] Curry: Yes, I have. And the company that I had written, which is called Holy Stone, I should mention them again. Don't ever buy anything from them.
[970.53] Curry: So after after it first went wrong, I do my thing, which is like, oh, something's gone wrong here. I'll create a video. I'll show them the problems.
[979.17] Curry: I'll document it in great detail and write them an email. And so they can tell me if I've done something stupid or it's wrong.
[986.53] Curry: Sent them an email. No response. Sent them another email. No response in another email. No response.
[991.73] Curry: Published a video because I was pissed off with the whole thing. And then the next day I got an email from them like they'd never spoken to me before saying, hey, we really like your YouTube channel.
[1002.69] Curry: Would you like to test one of our quads? Which I replied, I really did. And I wrote free emails to you.
[1009.41] Curry: This is the actual person I was writing the emails to from this address that she sent me.
[1013.57] Curry: I was like, have you seen them? What's happening? And I haven't got a response still. So annoying.
[1021.89] Curry: So it might be because I did have a quad that I was one of these other crappy GPS quad type things that I was going to take apart and put, you know, proper flight control in it just to piss it out with.
[1033.25] Curry: So I might use that one instead.
[1036.29] Curry: So I can open it up and see what's inside and then like throw that out, throw this bit out.
[1041.01] Curry: As long as it's got ERCs and motors, then I can deal with them.
[1047.41] Curry: They are. I mean, I think the problem is that that everybody who wants to fly this sort of thing wants a DJI.
[1055.01] Curry: But it's surprising the amount of crap people will put up with to save a bit of dosh.
[1062.13] Curry: So there does seem to be a market for people that just if you remember, like when we got into this stuff, which is coming up for now 10 years ago for me when I first started flying my tricopter, just getting it in the air and getting a picture from it.
[1076.53] Curry: I was like, wow, this is amazing. So perhaps for some people just doing this on any quad, no matter how the picture is and no matter how far the range is good enough.
[1087.73] Curry: And these are the guys that are buying these things. But for everybody else, this is like, this is atrocious.
[1092.53] Curry: I mean, even if it was in the air, it would be, you know, be shaken all about and be crappy picture.
[1098.37] Jack: So I don't know. That is worrying. Maybe it's a bot curry getting. Oh, my God.
[1105.09] Curry: I don't think so. I what happened is I spoke to the there was an original person there that talked to me and then literally said, I'm leaving now.
[1113.49] Curry: I'm going to put you over this person. So perhaps she's like this, this company. I'm getting out of here.
[1118.69] Curry: And the new person is potentially a bot or doesn't speak English. I'm going to write this one mile to say, would you please test one of our drones? No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
[1131.73] Curry: Maybe maybe I've saved a couple of people from buying one. That's, you know, if that's if we could do that, then we've we've accomplished our our goal.
[1139.81] Jack: Yes, that is good news. I live I live for the day that one day we'll be, you know, how do you like you're going to little and there's there's just that as a kid that you can buy for like 40, 40 quid or something.
[1154.69] Curry: And I'll be like, no, I've already kind of got that as the little glider. I know Caroline's that Caroline's built loads of cool little glider things with put in sort of dual model for us on that and making it go very fast.
[1169.81] Jack: Oh, man. Yeah, I want I wanted to do that. I picked up some of those gliders for Dan Upton. And he made like, like, you know, servos of the wings tail, which is kind of weird.
[1185.65] Jack: But I've never seen him fly it. I think he just made it and that's it. He likes doing stuff like tinkering.
[1194.21] Jack: I know. They are. Yeah, I ran into someone else who's like kind of basically made the little glider into a Bixler, you know, with like a rear motor and everything.
[1210.13] Curry: So it'll do sell cheap brush toy quads. Oh, my word. No way. It's honestly so because cheap brushed quads used to be, you know, the big money. Well, everybody was the remember the hubson that everybody flew in and people.
[1233.01] Curry: Yeah, I learned how to fly. And they had so little power. I would just fall out of the sky. And then it went brushless and more powerful. And then here we are now.
[1245.01] Jack: Yeah. Dave's story. Love going out to Andy RC get well soon. Poor Andy RC has got covered. So on this last picture, I actually thought he was like his girlfriend was pregnant or something until it because it looks like a pregnancy test.
[1261.17] Jack: Don't know those tests. I was like, Oh, congrats. Oh, no. No, that's after all. It probably be more pain if it if it was a pregnancy test. I don't think Andy RC can get pregnant. I'm not too sure. I don't know how it works.
[1280.61] Jack: I've been playing around with this that I mentioned last week, the M HP 13 little mini hot plate. Yeah, that's well small.
[1290.29] Curry: Oh, right. Yeah, I did watch about that. And I was like, what was it? This is like a little desoldering stuff. So you put a board on it and you can what it does sold as all your components and you can pick off the little tiny ones. Can you?
[1307.29] Jack: Yes, and you can re solder things. And yeah, like, yeah, you know, like reef, you just reflow things. So all those dead gyros, I could reflow them off, put them back on. So I keep chucking flight controllers in my ultrasonic cleaner because I'm a dickhead.
[1332.69] Jack: Yeah, I know. Well, it's just easy. Like, you know, it gets the whole flux off easier than scrubbing away. I need to buy can that flux off. I've never used it. I've known. I've known. I'm like, I know a few people. I'm like, I've got that. I think, I think Sheldon uses that sort of stuff. But yeah, really, really good bit of care. You need like a
[1362.69] Jack: big old beefy type C power supply for it. But I am very well impressed.
[1369.69] Curry: I did have a go at trying to reflow something I bought this. Don't do this at home kids, because this is my story to you. I bought a cheap bang good, like hot air gun type thing, especially for this. I put the little nozzle on I thought that's going to create a nice little jet of really hot air. And it's got this digital readout, which is supposed to be
[1391.69] Curry: the temperature. But as far as I can see, it's just a random number generator. Anyway, I held this on I had like a practice board, I could do and I just did this and I kept touching it with tweezers and see if it was coming off. It's like it's not happening. It's not happening. And then sparks came out of it. And then the plug blew up. And that was the end of that. And I thought that that seems a bit dangerous. Maybe buying. It's a bit like buying a discount parachute. There's just certain things you should spend money on.
[1421.69] Curry: Because that's the safest thing to do. So don't buy cheap, hot air guns from Banggood. It's not worth it. So scary. It's always scary when sparks come out and things go on. Did you was it still like the thing that you were like, do soldering was it still powered powered on or something? Or was it the actual you know? No, it was the actual hair thing. It's just like, and I'm holding this thing. And it's like that. And you know, thing with hot air shooting, you don't like to just throw it.
[1451.69] Curry: You don't want to go somewhere else. You want to turn it off and put it somewhere where it's not going to burn a hole in your floor.
[1456.69] Jack: Yeah, I know. I remember on the V blog, someone had one of those and the fans stopped working. And it was it just like sort of like thermally run away and just melted. It's worse.
[1473.69] Jack: It's not. You do acetone. You don't even use Jesus Christ. I suppose that's one way of doing it.
[1480.69] Jack: Random number.
[1482.69] Tony: Use his IPA.
[1484.69] Jack: Don't let that never work for Tony. He'd be drinking it.
[1487.69] Jack: Yeah.
[1488.69] Jack: Indian pale ale. So a little spicy.
[1492.69] Jack: Drung too much of it last night.
[1494.69] Jack: Oh, yeah. Tony had his old buddy around.
[1497.69] Jack: Yeah, too many beers last night.
[1499.69] Jack: That's what tomorrow night's for.
[1501.69] Tony: Well, I've got two beers and a wine for that.
[1506.69] Tony: For tomorrow night. Not that I'm probably doing much. Any of you guys going anywhere or seeing anyone?
[1512.69] Curry: I'm going all the way to my neighbours over the road to play some board games.
[1518.69] Curry: And they've told us they're not drinking. So, fun times.
[1522.69] Tony: Oh, God. You got a drink when playing board games?
[1527.69] Curry: I think so. I'll be taking some beers with me. I can tell you about my other neighbour.
[1531.69] Curry: I'll just say this randomly because we've got nothing to talk about.
[1535.69] Curry: A youngish couple just moved in next door, which is a rented house, and they've very chatty.
[1541.69] Curry: So I don't normally chat to neighbours because I'm very antisocial and I hate everybody, but they're quite friendly.
[1547.69] Curry: And they've just qualified as like ambulance people, paramedics, and they're both driving the ambulance.
[1554.69] Curry: I hadn't seen this girl for a while who's called Faye.
[1557.69] Curry: I was just popping over there before holiday to skim a Christmas card and say,
[1560.69] Curry: oh, if anything happens to the house, here's a number for Pippa's sister.
[1564.69] Curry: And so I just casually said to her like, oh, how's it been going? Has the new shift been all right?
[1569.69] Curry: And she said, oh, kind of. I had a little bit of a problem, though.
[1573.69] Curry: On one of my first shifts, I crashed the ambulance.
[1576.69] Curry: I was like, you what?
[1579.69] Tony: Well, we're patient on board.
[1581.69] Curry: The patient wasn't on board, but she got it wedged under something.
[1585.69] Curry: And when they backed it up, all the windows smashed.
[1588.69] Curry: And so they had to get another ambulance out for the emergency shout.
[1591.69] Curry: They were going.
[1592.69] Curry: And what did you say to the person in that situation?
[1594.69] Curry: Well, I couldn't say the truth.
[1595.69] Curry: And I said, I'm sorry, I think that's going to follow you around for the rest of your career.
[1599.69] Curry: I was like, you can't.
[1601.69] Curry: You can't crash an ambulance on your first shift.
[1603.69] Curry: I'm not expecting to hear about that for a while.
[1606.69] Curry: That was my interesting story with my neighbour.
[1608.69] Curry: I thought that was that.
[1609.69] Jack: That didn't help like Brad.
[1613.69] Jack: He's a driver and that they had like the brand new fear ambulances and everyone hates them.
[1619.69] Jack: And he took it out, put the first couple of miles on and then a deer ran out in front of him and wrote the whole ambulance.
[1633.69] Jack: Yeah, just brand new.
[1635.69] Jack: Just, yeah, absolutely munched it.
[1639.69] Jack: He's come around the corner.
[1641.69] Jack: He was looking at him, you know, and then last minute straight out in front of him bash.
[1648.69] Jack: So I hope he doesn't mind me telling that story.
[1651.69] Jack: Well, it's tough now.
[1653.69] Jack: Totally, totally like wrote off.
[1656.69] Jack: And the deer.
[1659.69] Jack: Oh, awful.
[1661.69] Jack: Oh, I was like, yo, you know, put out of its misery.
[1666.69] Curry: I mean, to be fair, if he if he had missed the deer and just wrecked the ambulance, it would be a tougher story.
[1672.69] Curry: He really needed to hit the deer just to say, look, I told you.
[1676.69] Curry: He got me dinner.
[1678.69] Curry: It wasn't me.
