Thank you to Carlos campos art folk now, Sam Darma [19.4] Frank: Mikey dread [21.2] Frank: On with the show [53.46] Curry: Hello welcome to let's drone out [57.18] Curry: Episode number something. I'm not keeping track slightly down on numbers today because [62.5] Curry: Jack's not here and everybody else is doing something else, but I'm here. Hello. I'm carrying in joined today with [69.78] Curry: Steven over here sometimes like Berlick or happy shiny something and down at the bottom there [74.9] Curry: We've got the wonderful sync FPV welcome. Hello. Hello [78.94] Sync FPV: Thanks guys. Good to be here [80.94] Curry: Good good to see you and we were just talking and I thought we'd get this question out [86.82] Curry: Now before I forget about it because I went back and I watched some of your recent videos [91.7] Curry: I have seen some of your videos before of course [94.14] Curry: And I watched some of the best of stuff and what instantly struck me was how high-risk everything was not just that [101.78] Curry: But how come sync manages to find all these bandos and the rest of us are just looking like if we could just find a [107.3] Curry: Field we'd be happy [108.86] Curry: So I know you can't be pulling those moves off every single time because they're just insane. There's loads of tiny gaps. There's [117.42] Curry: Matty flips real extended ones where you like going backwards forever [121.74] Curry: And then you just emerge out a tiny door and stuff flying past a steel girder like two inches away from it [127.54] Curry: Yeah [127.82] Curry: And I'm just like it makes me kind of shiver because I always worry about what happens if I crash here because in some of [133.54] Curry: Your cases you do like I just have to climb a 400-foot tower and right quad back and it'd be fine [139.06] Curry: How do you put that sort of stuff out your mind and say don't worry if we smash it up [144.02] Curry: We're just build another one or whatever. What what goes through your head, you know [148.58] Sync FPV: this is a good question, but like I think it's I [153.46] Sync FPV: Do still have like risk assessment in my head [156.3] Sync FPV: There is still a thing that's saying like if I go down here, I'm not getting it back and that's [161.82] Sync FPV: Most of the time most of the gaps that you see [163.9] Sync FPV: Yeah, it's a really small gap and if I crashed into the the side or whatever if I missed the hole [168.3] Sync FPV: It's gonna break a lot of stuff, but I'm gonna get something back. I'm gonna I'm gonna find a pile of pieces on the floor [174.66] Sync FPV: I really I hate flying over water because if you go down in water, you know [179.34] Sync FPV: Like there's no getting that back or if you're flying over a roof or something where like there's no real way to get up there [186.08] Sync FPV: Those things still sketch me out a lot [187.76] Sync FPV: But just trying to find for a small hole or a circle or something isn't I don't know [192.4] Sync FPV: It's risky in terms of their impact [194.6] Sync FPV: But there is always still gonna be a way that you will at least [198.2] Sync FPV: Recover a big pile of parts or a load of broken stuff. But yeah, obviously [204.88] Sync FPV: No, they're not first time. A lot of them are you know, there's a couple of tricks in there that I've [211.04] Sync FPV: I'm trying to think like this [212.84] Sync FPV: There's there's one I did like a couple of years ago where I did a reverse dive in that in a house [217.96] Sync FPV: So went down a skylight and then came out the front door down a couple of stories [222.08] Sync FPV: and I was I was sitting there for probably four or five packs at the end of the day trying to get this one trick and [227.4] Sync FPV: every time I [228.64] Sync FPV: crashed I probably [230.28] Sync FPV: Damaged an antenna or you know [231.96] Sync FPV: Like I would have to go and get it from inside the house and I finally got it and I was like, yes [236.76] Sync FPV: I did it. It's cool. And I got home and the the GoPro had done this freeze-frame thing [241.52] Sync FPV: So I didn't have the footage of it. So I was like, no, this sucks [244.64] Sync FPV: I spent like so much so many parts and so much time doing this [247.88] Sync FPV: And so the next day I just went back there and just did that trick over and over again until I got it again [253.6] Sync FPV: And then went home and it was like I just literally went just to just to sort of like because I felt like the house [259.72] Sync FPV: Would be in me and I was like I have to go and just sort of prove that I can do this [263.36] Sync FPV: And yeah, it was probably [266.08] Sync FPV: 20 30 attempts, you know [268.08] Stephen: What do you think drives you to put that much time and energy into you know [271.72] Stephen: That may be what might be a might not even be five seconds of footage. Yeah, yeah, I kill a trick at 60 mile an hour [278.32] Sync FPV: That's a good question. I think it's just like I I [282.92] Sync FPV: Don't know you and I I'm thinking back to like the skating days where you would see [288.0] Sync FPV: Like I bought or or something would have a set of stairs that they want a trick down. There's actually a documentary [294.36] Sync FPV: There's like an hour long about a guy trying to jump down one set of stairs and he takes two years [300.12] Sync FPV: Well, I think it's like between a year and two years keeps returning to the same spot [304.36] Sync FPV: Sometimes he gets kicked off sometimes he and he's just probably hundreds and hundreds of attempts and you're right that the actual end goal is [312.84] Sync FPV: Ten seconds right because like that trick only took ten seconds, but it's I don't know [316.84] Sync FPV: It's like it's just kind of a skater before you were into FPV [320.56] Sync FPV: Yeah, I was and I think I think quite a lot of people are right. It does seem that there's quite a big cross [325.28] Stephen: I guess that's how that mentality arrives that yeah, like I've got to do this one thing [330.96] Stephen: Yeah, really hard and no one else has ever done. It's self set challenges, isn't it? [335.68] Sync FPV: It's like you you kind of like you just go I can do this [338.04] Sync FPV: So if you think something's possible you you'll sit there and prove it or or not [343.16] Sync FPV: It's the cases sometimes [345.04] Curry: It also strikes me that you probably [348.08] Curry: Think of a location in a completely different way to me because when I see these [352.8] Curry: Is it the right thing is it called a Matty flip still when you basically do that the sort of the backwards loop out? [358.2] Curry: Are we still calling them that? Yeah [361.0] Curry: Over something and then nose down and like a backwards. That's basically that the the backwards flight stuff [367.44] Curry: When when I'm seeing it and it's on a huge distance [370.8] Curry: I'm thinking this guy must be taking such notice of like marks in the ground [377.52] Curry: To know exactly how he's lining himself up because it's not always like you wouldn't just go through the door [383.2] Curry: It's like as long as I'm in a straight line [385.0] Curry: I'll be fine [385.56] Curry: You must be using like references on the ground and stuff to make sure you're good because the amount of times you're hitting these dead on [391.8] Curry: Is is quite scary? [393.8] Curry: It's just do you have this visual mind map and your spatial awareness in a different way? [399.56] Sync FPV: It's a good it's a good point because I don't think you do it consciously. But when I look back at the footage, there's some [405.68] Sync FPV: There's some like where I'm coming out of a door or something and I can see myself like [409.88] Sync FPV: Leaning to the right or left because I was gonna miss and I'm sort of like self-correcting at the at the when I'm on [416.12] Sync FPV: The flat bit and I'm like, huh, that's weird [418.28] Sync FPV: I must have known that I was gonna hit the door frame, but there wasn't I think it's just feel man [422.72] Sync FPV: You just like you just sort of like, you know [424.96] Sync FPV: The quad sort of like moved a bit to the left and as long as you were lined up in the beginning you kind of like [429.6] Sync FPV: You're remembering you're like [430.92] Sync FPV: Oh the angle of the horizon wasn't quite right as I went over [434.24] Sync FPV: That means I'm going to be going a bit to the left better roll right a little bit to come just the camera [439.48] Stephen: It's like proprioception. Like you're aware of what's around the quad. You're not just looking through the lens [445.12] Sync FPV: Yeah, I think I guess I mean a lot of the time there's a bit of luck as well. I mean, let's not kid ourselves [454.16] Sync FPV: Practice should not be ignored sure sure sure. Yeah, but [458.84] Sync FPV: Yeah, people say like people say I'm really lucky but then when you keep doing it, they're like, okay [463.6] Sync FPV: Well, it there must be something else here as well because you can't be you can't be lucky that many times [468.2] Sync FPV: It's like yeah, I guess but yeah, I think you know [471.4] Sync FPV: Yeah practice and that's sort of like just feeling the quad and knowing when it's like moved a bit to the left [478.0] Sync FPV: You can kind of just you just feel it in the sticks, man [480.8] Stephen: You know when you're learning this stuff like how many motors were you getting through in a month? Oh, yeah, let's not go there [487.2] Sync FPV: Yeah, it's a sizable number the crazy [490.04] Sync FPV: Yeah, cuz obviously I think in the early days. I didn't used to run like little TPU arm guards [496.32] Sync FPV: Then if you guys use any kind of motor protection, but yeah, I could I would go through [503.44] Sync FPV: Between four and eight like in one flight session [507.56] Sync FPV: So flight session. Yeah [509.64] Sync FPV: That's that's epic. So that so that so I I've used the very cheapest motors [514.84] Sync FPV: I could like the Velos [517.24] Sync FPV: Develops T motor ones were about nine nine quite a motor or something. So I went with them for quite a while and yeah [524.44] Sync FPV: They they were probably the biggest casualties [527.8] Sync FPV: I think it's framed frames you don't really break that much right, you know, you get [531.36] Sync FPV: You might break an arm here or there, but the sort of middle of the frame doesn't doesn't seem to get broken that much [536.96] Sync FPV: So always the motors and the and the go pros for me [540.2] Stephen: You don't ever do a complete squish then where like the frame standoffs go sideways and the top plates over here and the bottom plates [546.72] Stephen: over there [547.92] Stephen: Have you done that? Yeah. Yeah, I have seen it happen. Actually. Yeah, I have seen it happen [552.92] Stephen: But usually the lighter weight frames not proper freestyle. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Are you guys both freestyle? [558.4] Sync FPV: Or do you do either of you race or anything? [560.6] Curry: Not race at mainly. I just swung around I wouldn't even say I class myself as freestyle flying around. Is that is that free? [568.52] Curry: That's yeah, I mean, yeah, I'm a freestyle. Nice. Oh, yeah. I did I did a race once. How did you say? Yeah [575.68] Curry: Um, I I won some heats but I was good [579.08] Curry: Yeah, the good thing about it is I was like I've never done a race before it was one of the team woolly sheep events [584.48] Curry: Who are very nice bunch of people and they kind of rank people in the group. So you'd never go against [589.88] Curry: Insanely experienced people it'd be like oh, right. We're putting you with like, you know [593.9] Curry: There's small children and people who've never flown before and it's like, yeah [598.26] Sync FPV: Well, I beat them you beat a load of kids. Yeah, good job, man [603.06] Stephen: Still going to school sports day curry. Yep [609.58] Curry: So [610.5] Curry: How are the how the GoPro damage you mentioned? Are you just smashing the lenses or is it a whole GoPro as you're taking out? [618.18] Sync FPV: Yeah, sometimes it's whole ones. I mean I [621.7] Sync FPV: Would I would use like the lens thing on the on the hero 7 and then a [626.1] Sync FPV: temper glass filter and then an ND filter as well to kind of like just try and give it a [631.98] Sync FPV: Fighting chance and that seems to help a little bit, you know, you you go go through ND filters [638.04] Sync FPV: Like 10 a penny, but so it's not really in the ND filter for you. It's more like bulletproofing. It's protection. Absolutely [644.66] Sync FPV: Yeah, I think I had like a bunch of ND twos [647.58] Sync FPV: I think was the lowest one you can get and they do basically nothing to the image [651.26] Sync FPV: But yeah, it's just it's just to make to give you all that lens a bit more of a chance [656.06] Sync FPV: but damaging acts like breaking a whole GoPro does happen quite often, but [660.38] Sync FPV: There's that GoPro plus thing if you guys know about that, that's like 50 quid a year or something [665.78] Sync FPV: I think it's 60 credit years like that and then you can get go post replaced from GoPro [671.38] Sync FPV: You're supposed to only get to a year and you're supposed to pay a premium for them [675.62] Sync FPV: But when they rolled this thing out, I don't think this is gonna be like [679.3] Sync FPV: Oh, you know life hack now because I think they fixed it [682.46] Sync FPV: But when they rolled it out about two two and a half years ago, they couldn't take payment. Their payment provider was broken [688.22] Sync FPV: So they couldn't take payment from the UK [690.3] Sync FPV: So you would you would go to them? [692.14] Sync FPV: I really want to get this GoPro replace, please with my GoPro plus subscription and they would say oh the payment things not working [699.06] Sync FPV: So for this time only we'll give it you free as a warranty replacement [703.22] Sync FPV: And I got I think I got ten in one year ten this time only deals [708.22] Sync FPV: Yeah, cuz you just go on the on the live chat and it would be like a different person each time [712.58] Sync FPV: so they obviously don't keep a record of how many [715.3] Sync FPV: One time only warranty replacements you've had and yeah [718.74] Sync FPV: And that that definitely it gives you a lot more confidence when you know that GoPro would just send you another [723.58] Stephen: These days everyone in your house has a GoPro cover plan in their name then they're breaking GoPros [729.78] Sync FPV: Just think it's done on email so you can just you can just sign up again and again with as many emails as you want [735.1] Sync FPV: I don't think it's even done on address or name. So yeah, I do know people with more than one GoPro plus account [740.82] Stephen: I'll go pretty well out the whole deal. I think the actual bill of materials those cameras isn't extraordinarily high [746.82] Sync FPV: Yeah, I do wonder like if [750.34] Sync FPV: If you worked or knew someone that worked at GoPro [753.02] Sync FPV: I would be interested to know what their cost prices for one of the one of their cameras. You think it's pretty low [759.66] Stephen: I think it's yeah, it's got to be pretty low if you consider that people can make a profit on a mobile phone that cost [764.3] Stephen: Less than a GoPro. I don't think the sensor and electronics are spectacular [769.66] Stephen: That's a very good point on a mobile phone [772.22] Sync FPV: Yeah, I hadn't thought about it that way. That's very true [775.74] Curry: Now I think you had a discussion about this on one of your videos [778.34] Curry: I didn't get around to watching but what about stabilization? Do you like hyper smooth? [784.26] Curry: Jira smoke Jira flow just leave it as it is or anything. Yeah [789.82] Sync FPV: So yeah, it's kind of like a hot topic. I don't know [792.34] Sync FPV: I think a lot a lot of people have very strong opinions on whether it's a good or bad thing in in freestyle [798.7] Sync FPV: I think everyone is in agreement that for [801.78] Sync FPV: Like commercial work. It's it's totally fine to use real steady or anything like that [805.94] Sync FPV: You get that makes the footage look very magical when you're chasing or doing any kind of subject work [812.34] Sync FPV: Yep, real steady or Jira flow. I haven't let you play with Jira flow yet [815.54] Sync FPV: I would like to I downloaded it and the interface was like [818.9] Sync FPV: Holy cow, that's a lot of buttons. Yeah, a lot of a lot of things to play with looks awesome. Don't get me wrong [824.66] Sync FPV: But for freestyle, yeah hyper smooth is fine. I like it. I've been using it for ages [832.1] Sync FPV: but I've actually started to not because after having this conversation and hearing a lot of people's [838.9] Sync FPV: Opinions on my isn't good or is good [841.86] Sync FPV: there was a lot of a lot of good points about why [846.34] Sync FPV: It's it's a good thing to not use it as well. It's not saying that if you use it, it's bad [850.9] Sync FPV: I don't think that I think the footage looks great [853.38] Sync FPV: but there is a quality to like the raw footage that [856.82] Sync FPV: It actually makes things look even more scary and it makes it look you're along for the ride more, right? Yeah [861.9] Sync FPV: Yeah, and I think that's quite a compelling fit reason to to try it out [866.98] Sync FPV: So next few videos gonna be gonna be watching out for it [870.86] Curry: Yeah, I think that's why analog DVR is sometimes quite interesting to watch because if you can see that for all the static as well [877.74] Curry: That's going on. Yeah. Yeah good, but you're fine DJ. I know I knew I am [882.62] Sync FPV: Yeah, but I do remember back in the day people would put the little DVR camera in the corner, right? [886.94] Sync FPV: Because it was just like yeah, this is what this is the cool view [890.26] Sync FPV: But look at what I'm looking at look at what I'm having to deal with it was kind of like a point of hmm [894.74] Sync FPV: Flying through static and stuff is like look I this is this is how hard it really is [899.62] Sync FPV: and I think hypersmith takes away some of that even more because [904.18] Sync FPV: Yeah, it can make the hard stuff look easier. I think [909.22] Sync FPV: Yeah, that makes sense [911.5] Curry: Yeah, yeah, I mean I because I'm reviewing stuff. I'm mostly just showing DVR stuff to people [918.36] Curry: Yeah, this is what you can see as opposed to like this is what you this is what the perfect view would be for a GoPro [924.9] Curry: Stabilize, which is not which not what you're gonna get for you goggles [927.86] Curry: So I was gonna say so so what are you flying now in terms of frames and motors and stuff? Yeah [934.42] Sync FPV: Sure. Good question. I actually have I have one right here [938.9] Sync FPV: Andy I didn't I didn't plan that I've just I'm working on them [943.38] Stephen: So it's possibly the most color coordinated build we've had on the show. Oh, yeah, always always me [948.7] Sync FPV: I think it matches my logo colors [951.22] Sync FPV: this is a [953.34] Sync FPV: What is it called a super fly? [956.02] Sync FPV: Flip mode. They've got to they've got the juice man. They've got the flip mode [959.62] Sync FPV: Differences the flip mode has like a camera cage thing on the front [963.18] Sync FPV: But the juice mode is a classic sort of coffin style frame [965.94] Sync FPV: But I I really like the cage it reminds me of the old sort of chameleons and the and the roosters [970.98] Sync FPV: It's like carbon or it is coming. Yeah, I can sort of hold it a bit closer [975.58] Sync FPV: Yeah, so this is it's carbon then with a bit of a TPU bumper on it [979.38] Sync FPV: It's a kadix vista. I think they're it's the best thing going really [984.3] Sync FPV: um [985.62] Sync FPV: fat tech stack, so 45 amp ESC and the g4 flight controller and [992.86] Sync FPV: T-motor f6d pro 4 is still on the classics. I don't know. They're just they're just really good [998.54] Sync FPV: I was using the Velux for ages. I'm breaking like I said four to eight every time and [1004.02] Sync FPV: Then I asked him over and they were like maybe the f60s will suit you better and I tried them and I [1009.82] Sync FPV: Okay, they're hard to break. I'm getting a success. Yeah success so 1750 says the lowest one that they do [1017.66] Sync FPV: Yeah, I think that's everything and this is a color the sides of the frame [1021.62] Stephen: Maybe I'm a noob, but I've never done this one. I [1025.14] Stephen: Use these let me say [1027.34] Sync FPV: It's not very it's not very yeah [1031.18] Stephen: Is it just a sharpie? [1036.62] Sync FPV: It's that it's it's an oil-based [1039.18] Sync FPV: So they they do these sort of like right arts pen markers [1043.62] Sync FPV: But you can't get them in the UK, so I I think there's a dude in there's a dude [1048.06] Sync FPV: It there's like a wholesaler in Ireland that that sells the money bay for like three quid, so I just get them from there [1054.62] Stephen: Okay, they're not too dedicated. I thought you were gonna say I'd I import them [1061.14] Sync FPV: From the US no, but yeah, you have to get the oil ones like the normal sharpies don't [1066.22] Sync FPV: They're not thinking I was thinking how does the colors stand out because it would yeah, it's good [1070.02] Stephen: I'm the carbon school. It's a nice touch [1072.58] Sync FPV: Yeah, and then you go and smash them to pieces of course. Yeah, that's a given there, right? [1078.42] Sync FPV: But yeah, I'm the super fly is I don't know if you've heard of them. They're the UK guys [1083.86] Sync FPV: Is that a five inch frame or 5.5 or it's five yeah [1087.62] Sync FPV: It can take five point one prop specs, but not five and what's the GoPro that you're hauling on it [1093.22] Sync FPV: Just trying to figure on it. So yeah, this is an eight, but I usually I haven't actually flame with the eight yet [1100.1] Sync FPV: I've only just printed this map which is why it's nice and clean but [1103.9] Sync FPV: Usually I was on the seven and the all-up weight with everything. I used the 1200 milliamp [1110.74] Sync FPV: Speedy pizza trying to hobby line batteries and it's about seven three five seven three nine [1117.1] Stephen: I was flying without a GoPro and I got the hero I thought I'll just put this on a five inch and now my word [1123.22] Stephen: Seven right made a massive difference. Yeah, it really slows it down [1126.58] Stephen: So then I built a seven inch and just smashed it to pieces, but it'll be in the air again soon [1131.5] Sync FPV: Nice. I didn't mention the props pink props that are a gem found fifty one forty three three three three three three [1139.7] Sync FPV: so that [1141.54] Stephen: Hurricane ones they're nice. So I was watching your podcast or listening to it rather cuz I was down in Jim [1148.9] Stephen: Heard you're actually sponsored for your massive massive number of props [1153.54] Stephen: I mean if you're going through motors in that number, I'm guessing through your you're going through props in ten times the number of motors [1159.86] Sync FPV: Yes, you're correct. Even more so now. I think now that I've got these TPU arm guards the motors don't break that often [1166.46] Sync FPV: But yeah, yeah [1168.94] Sync FPV: Yeah, Jim fan really cool. They approached me. They just said we want to sponsor you [1173.66] Sync FPV: We're building up a team blah blah because they were primarily racing before and they were had a bunch of really good freestyle props [1180.42] Sync FPV: But they didn't really sponsor that many freestyle pilots [1183.14] Sync FPV: They're trying to build a team and the other guy that do the podcast with Mike. He's the sort of the rep [1187.66] Sync FPV: The international rep for gem fans. So he's he's the one building this team of pilots and doing lots of promotion and stuff and [1194.18] Sync FPV: Sending me lots of props. So we like him. He's good. Yeah [1198.3] Sync FPV: Keeping you in the air. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, he's cool. He's cool [1202.3] Curry: So how many pallets of props do they have to send out every month to keep you imagining like a bin bag? [1208.62] Curry: At least a sizable box full of bags full of thousands of props surely is it's quite a it's quite a delivery [1215.14] Sync FPV: They do them. I mean, I don't know how much I can say but they it's just annual or they back a truck [1220.8] Sync FPV: I think they do that is annual. Yeah, I was gonna say [1224.5] Sync FPV: Supply in one go because it's better than shipping out [1227.9] Sync FPV: Individual things every month right because they come from China. So [1231.18] Sync FPV: Yeah, it's a it's a box. It's a box and a half. And yeah, you kind of like [1237.54] Sync FPV: Don't need to worry about props anymore. Yeah [1240.62] Sync FPV: Just put them under the desk and then like yeah, you've always got enough [1244.98] Sync FPV: But yeah, they're good. They're good guys, man [1247.5] Curry: That's cool. We did have a question here, which I didn't get it was from fail safe FPP [1252.14] Curry: It says sink you running the alpha firmware on the g4. Hey fail safe. I was I tried it [1258.98] Sync FPV: I tried a few versions of it and then I [1263.26] Sync FPV: Updated to the most recent and it told me my flight controller wasn't activated [1268.9] Sync FPV: So there was like an activation thing that I think was supposed to trigger and so I rolled back to kiss [1274.38] Sync FPV: I did enjoy it though. I thought it was pretty cool. So fat tech of [1277.98] Sync FPV: Like they've started to build their own firmware [1280.34] Sync FPV: That's separate to kiss because at the moment fat tech runs the kiss firmware on all their flight controllers [1286.62] Sync FPV: They have different ESC protocol at different ESC firmware [1291.82] Sync FPV: So they're now building an FC [1295.14] Sync FPV: Firmware that is their own brand as well because you know the guy who runs fat tech [1299.86] Sync FPV: Well, one of the one of the three was the original creator of kiss. That's Felix [1305.42] Sync FPV: Nielsen, I think his name is Nelson Felix Nielsen [1308.3] Sync FPV: Neeson. Yeah, so he he's the original creator of kiss. He's born his own company. It sounded like a shield now, but yeah [1314.82] Stephen: I don't know. It's what you use. It's what you use. I'm sure you've got a good reason for it [1319.54] Sync FPV: Yeah, I love it. I think what do you guys play? Do you all well obviously a bit of everything based off like through and through [1325.82] Curry: Sorry, I think that's not very much everything since multi-week. I've never had a kiss flight controller weirdly [1332.66] Curry: I've had kiss ESCs and every other flight controller you can think of but I've never had a kiss flight control. No way [1339.54] Curry: Yes way, I think at the beginning it was because it's like we mean it doesn't have an OSD I need to see like [1347.18] Curry: That and then I know you just need to add another board. It's like that seems like the olden days [1351.82] Curry: Yeah, I don't know about that. But everybody who uses it [1355.98] Curry: Certainly goes on and on about how well they fly and the fact that you don't have to spend [1362.5] Curry: Eight years trying to understand what all these filters mean in beta flight [1365.94] Curry: That's right. I'm all for the idea of kiss being keep it simple stupid [1371.5] Curry: Because I've been moaning for ages that the beta flight is just so complicated [1376.74] Curry: You just need a couple of sliders that say faster spinny slower spinny and the rest of it, you know [1382.58] Curry: In in terms of PIDS, it's I suppose you want it loose or or more locked and that's about it [1387.86] Curry: Really the rest of it should just yeah work as far as I'm concerned [1391.3] Sync FPV: So you're not one of these people that enjoys the tuning process because they do know people that really [1397.26] Sync FPV: They love it, right? I don't go as far as black box [1400.14] Stephen: But I certainly don't have a grudge having to put a couple of packs through something to tune it after I built it [1405.38] Stephen: Yeah, I know I think is that don't be so hard [1409.78] Curry: To get the time to go and fly [1412.18] Curry: With the weather and locations that I don't want to be faffing around like oh, let me just turn this up a bit [1418.1] Curry: I just want to fly around have a bit of fun. Yeah [1420.94] Stephen: Messing around and around I find now I've got the phone app now. I've got beta flight configurator on my Android phone [1427.74] Stephen: It's just way easier. I can just have the Android phone with an OTG cable and like a plinkety-plonk [1433.3] Stephen: Yeah, a bit more PIDS bit more PIDS bit more filters. Oh, no, no, no, no filter back the other way [1438.58] Stephen: It's going crazy and then just sort of get it to the point where it's responding in a way [1444.06] Stephen: I'm comfortable with you know, there's no bounce backs and decent amount of prop wash handling and then that's good [1449.74] Stephen: I'm not gonna put hours into it, but I don't mind like learning about how the flight controller works [1455.18] Stephen: I find that a little bit fascinating how the flight controller works [1457.98] Stephen: And yeah, I find once I've heard someone talk about that or I've gone through and read some of the PRs [1463.9] Stephen: It'll just kind of comes into focus and then I'm like, oh, right. I just moved that. Oh, it flies nicely done [1470.62] Sync FPV: Hello, how long are you guys been flying? [1474.13] Sync FPV: Ten years this year ten years and you and you've never tried to kiss like show TV's everything [1480.85] Curry: except kiss [1485.97] Curry: It was always kiss was always more expensive to get and it's like, oh I got all these, you know [1491.77] Curry: I've got all these beat up like fuck like control. Yeah, no, it's not [1496.49] Curry: Consciously, it's it's been kind of like because I did a lot of reviews. It's been like a review quad has arrived [1502.77] Curry: It has a bit of flight flight control in it. We know we're doing that. Let's take our flight and [1507.49] Curry: so when I when I [1509.25] Curry: Buy stuff which is seemingly quite rare. It's it's gonna be like, oh I need to run [1514.93] Curry: This on this quad. So it's gonna be like a something I can run either beat a flight on or I never on and I never [1520.45] Curry: Thought about anything else. Right? Yeah, I should I should really try one. I'd be interested [1524.69] Sync FPV: Yeah, see what you think cuz you've actually had so much experience with beta flight and it would be [1530.29] Sync FPV: It'd be cool to see what you what you think [1532.45] Curry: Yeah, so much experience sounds like I know what I'm doing [1534.89] Curry: It really is if I get out of the box and it flies reasonably. I'm like, that's good enough for me [1539.57] Curry: I'm not touching anymore [1540.77] Curry: There have been quads that have come and they've been expertly tuned like the the old immersion RC stuff [1547.89] Curry: like the the vortex I had the vortex Mojo and [1552.01] Curry: That had like a tune from they sent them out to various people like Final Glide Oz and he put his tune on there [1558.85] Curry: And I have to say that like, oh, wow, this really does fly even better [1562.77] Curry: Than than the normal those little incremental pieces do [1566.89] Curry: kind of make it worth the effort if you can be bothered to go back and sort of reiterate and then do that thing and if [1572.69] Curry: I just was just going out and flying one quad and [1576.21] Curry: Repeating that I'm sure I'd be you know going back and tuning but it's kind of yeah [1580.37] Curry: What am I taking out today weird stuff picking up to other weird things to film weird stuff for? Yeah [1586.73] Stephen: I was learning how to build and so I just wanted to get more for my money [1591.41] Stephen: I started about beta flight 3.2 and [1594.41] Stephen: I was like, oh, I love to learn this and I just learned it [1597.85] Stephen: You know, it's a couple of evenings and done but I am a little bit tempted especially now [1602.49] Stephen: I've heard some people out there are testing the new HV set from FedEx, which sounds interesting [1609.41] Stephen: And there are there are some people who are building 10s mini quads. Yeah, I [1614.09] Sync FPV: Haven't put it in a card yet, but tennis five inch sounds awesome. I'm looking forward to that [1620.09] Sync FPV: Yeah, I was gonna I was gonna say something [1622.21] Sync FPV: It's gonna sound like a sales pitch and that's because it kind of is a bit but if you don't like tuning [1629.45] Sync FPV: Superfly Steve the guy that sells these frames he he provides like tunes for them [1635.45] Sync FPV: He's actually one of the one of the guys that's done a lot of the preset tunes before point three [1639.45] Sync FPV: But he has when you buy the frame you get a password to his website that's got tuned specifically for this frame [1645.01] Sync FPV: With your FC and motor KV combination. So if you don't like tuning [1651.37] Sync FPV: Maybe try maybe pick one up [1653.93] Sync FPV: Give it and there's a there's a link from there. It is. I'm worried as well. Yeah, lovely [1659.53] Sync FPV: and yeah, that's kind of nice because then it does take the guesswork out of tuning for [1664.37] Sync FPV: This specific frame because you know, he's done all of the black box and resonance tests and all that stuff [1669.69] Curry: Ahead of ahead of time. We've got a question here from sonic tonic saying will we see the sinker merch? [1676.37] Curry: It's already there and you're about to break it out or did you do your logo? [1680.23] Sync FPV: Are you gonna go a whole to a whole line of all that? I did do all my own branding. Yes, but not [1686.17] Sync FPV: Not really bothered with merch to be honest [1688.13] Sync FPV: I think if you if you think mean much as in like hats and hoodies and stuff [1694.21] Sync FPV: like that, I'm not sure right like who would really buy that I mean, but I [1699.61] Sync FPV: Guess if people want it like sure but there hasn't been an overwhelming demand for my name on it on any item of clothing yet [1707.57] Sync FPV: I did do some stickers back in the day. I think every everyone starts out with stickers, right? That's kind of like [1712.93] Sync FPV: Yeah, that's a cool thing. But yeah apart from that [1717.29] Sync FPV: Watch this space for [1719.77] Sync FPV: Kind of quad related things that aren't necessarily clothes. I can't say too much but [1725.81] Stephen: Yeah, I'm sorry on the the HV thing did we finish that are you planning to put it in a quarter? [1731.37] Stephen: Are you just kind of yeah in your chin on that one? No, I am [1735.17] Sync FPV: I've got [1736.85] Sync FPV: these [1738.09] Sync FPV: The batteries I'm gonna use it's kind of this is it's almost like we planned this everything's just on my desk that you want to [1743.29] Sync FPV: Talk about this is kind of weird [1745.29] Sync FPV: So these are 720 milliamp [1748.05] Sync FPV: Gmb batteries, so there's a six and a forest one of those [1753.05] Sync FPV: The equivalent sort of what hours or whatever however you divide it [1757.85] Sync FPV: This will give you the same amount of juice as a 1200 milliamp success [1762.97] Sync FPV: Like the same amount of power and it's 30 grams heavier lighter in this configuration [1769.97] Stephen: So that's gonna be rated ones. Those are a funny color. There's a red. What is that red? Yeah. Yeah [1775.25] Sync FPV: I don't think it means anything. They just [1779.13] Sync FPV: All these different colors of lipos, I've done yeah [1782.01] Sync FPV: Decoder ring clothes. I think it's like the milliamp hours. So that the 600 ish ones that are yellow [1789.17] Stephen: 700 ish. No, no, there's yellows in 380s and 660s [1793.89] Stephen: hundreds and 1350s, it's just I [1797.09] Sync FPV: Think like a generational range or something. I don't know. Right? Okay. Well, these are HP ones. Yeah, and yeah [1804.21] Sync FPV: Yeah, I I mean the the ESC in the box is rated to go up to 12s [1810.13] Sync FPV: I think still 45 amp but like so you could put two of the six s ones on it and [1816.69] Sync FPV: That's gonna be the second light then [1820.65] Sync FPV: Yeah, yeah, you know, I'm really curious the only problem [1823.77] Sync FPV: I mean mounting these is gonna be fun because obviously one is thinner than the other one [1828.49] Sync FPV: So I'm probably gonna build like a little [1830.97] Stephen: Just I had that on my 8s 7-inch though [1833.41] Stephen: I like I had a 6s and 2s on top and put two straps around them and it stayed put just squish it down [1839.13] Stephen: Yeah, front strap in a back strap and it's okay. You don't want one strap because then they're like, you know, excuse [1845.09] Stephen: No, of course like oh, yeah [1847.37] Sync FPV: Yeah, I'm just gonna replace the motors. So it comes with 1100 KV motors. I think they're 1100 and 2207 [1854.97] Sync FPV: So it's literally just a drop-in replacement for [1859.01] Sync FPV: Whatever I have on a 5-inch already. So it's a yeah [1863.93] Sync FPV: But the weather is right now it keeps raining so [1868.25] Sync FPV: Yeah, I wish it was just bright enough a bit. I can go out again [1871.61] Curry: We get that I literally had my backpack today to go out because the weather forecast was okay and then decides to rain [1877.97] Sync FPV: Yeah, fingers crossed for tomorrow. It's it's like that sort of like transition season, isn't it? They're always a bit [1885.05] Sync FPV: wet [1886.81] Stephen: Yeah, old just was a lot bloody cold and I've got the special fingerless gloves [1891.21] Stephen: I've got a little fold off fingers so I can go out and fly and there's a great man [1895.81] Stephen: like I went flying on the weekends and I couldn't feel my toes after a couple of packs like [1900.89] Stephen: Mind my fingers my toes with two pairs of socks [1904.33] Sync FPV: This is this is a good segue actually because I I have circulation issues [1908.45] Sync FPV: So I have to stay warm and I have some little I've got some tricks man [1912.89] Sync FPV: I have I have heated electric socks [1916.65] Sync FPV: So that it's like those in socks heated electric socks. Yeah, I'm thinking link in the chat [1923.61] Sync FPV: No, it's the two the 2s each sock is 2s [1929.45] Sync FPV: Success but I'm [1932.81] Sync FPV: And then I've got heated insoles as well [1935.89] Stephen: So the insoles on not only the socks but the insoles too [1939.09] Sync FPV: Yeah, man, cuz the socks heat the top of your foot and it's not something that sound it's like ham cooking just kind of [1947.09] Sync FPV: Now this was really cool because they're not like super hot so they because they're the batteries actually in the insult [1952.53] Sync FPV: So you can imagine they're not like the most powerful of thing magic [1956.61] Curry: I think I need to research all of this before I like the idea of this because it is always your extremities, isn't it? [1962.93] Curry: Absolutely. They go cold the rest of you like can't take it anymore [1966.49] Stephen: And you might think I'll stamp your feet, but you try and do that while you're doing acro and you're just gonna fall [1971.09] Sync FPV: Yeah, I think that's the main problem. Is that this hubby requires you to stand incredibly still, right? [1976.77] Sync FPV: It's like you basically you're concentrating so much you don't move and even your hands [1980.81] Sync FPV: You're trying to move them as small as possible, right? [1983.41] Sync FPV: So you're basically going out of your way to keep still and say like it the cold is even worse [1988.33] Sync FPV: Right these hand warmers as well like electric hand warmers [1991.61] Sync FPV: basically, yeah, I've got like [1993.45] Sync FPV: 12 s batteries just on my person. I think I've got kind of crappy circulation as well [1998.81] Stephen: Like I get numb toes really easily. Yeah, he's an excellent tip. So we'll follow up on that. Go for it, man [2004.25] Sync FPV: Yeah, I must have spent probably 200 quid on heated things. It's all skiing gear off. How do you find all this stuff? [2011.37] Sync FPV: Yeah, it's basically for [2013.25] Sync FPV: Yeah for people that live in in the snow and I'm just there out and it's like slightly cold and I mean, I don't know [2020.57] Sync FPV: In a field yeah, they're like in I've got like a ski jacket and I was [2025.05] Sync FPV: Snowboarding boots. I always like I just did I just can't handle the cold. My body just shuts down [2030.37] Sync FPV: So it's got to be done [2032.57] Sync FPV: valuable tips, I'm sure people are finding it [2037.33] Sync FPV: Or just laugh at me in my in my alpine ski wear when they see me [2042.73] Sync FPV: styling it I [2045.05] Curry: Always have to ask a question being in in both camps of flying like quads and fixed wing [2049.21] Curry: Have you done any fixed wing flying or is that something you want to do? [2053.85] Sync FPV: Dude, you know, I I never tried it. I've never like [2059.29] Sync FPV: Never even been out with someone that's had one on them and I've [2063.37] Sync FPV: Go on and they've gone. Oh, you know have a go while it's in the air sort of thing [2066.51] Sync FPV: I think I just I haven't met anyone that's been into it yet. And I think if I did [2072.45] Sync FPV: Actually, you know what? I did meet one guy a [2075.29] Sync FPV: random Hill in [2077.97] Sync FPV: Just up North Clea Hill. Have you heard of Clea Hill? It's like a place in the middle of the country [2082.13] Sync FPV: That's really really nice for flying fixed wings and stuff and he had the most beautiful fixed wing [2087.49] Sync FPV: I've ever seen it was all custom built. It was like orange and black [2090.01] Sync FPV: It looks incredible and he just like it took off and he and he was flying [2094.77] Sync FPV: it looks so cool and he just was straight into the side of a mountain and he was like [2099.13] Sync FPV: And he hadn't put his crossfire and center on his radio [2102.57] Sync FPV: so it just failsafe when it got about [2104.85] Sync FPV: 80 meters away tried to turn around because the failsafe kicked in and just went straight into the mountain and the thing just like [2110.57] Sync FPV: Oh, it was it was really tragic to see because it was an absolutely beautiful machine [2114.49] Sync FPV: And had it lasted more than the 25 seconds of flight time. I would have loved to have had a go [2120.93] Sync FPV: but [2121.97] Sync FPV: Yeah, I don't know man. It's never it's never been a thing that I've [2125.25] Sync FPV: Strived to build them and stuff. I think they do take up a lot of space [2128.33] Sync FPV: It seems like when you got a whole fleet of those things [2132.49] Sync FPV: Feels like they would require a bit of real estate [2135.97] Sync FPV: but [2137.05] Sync FPV: Yeah, you need a lot of space you did a lot more space to fly them as well, right? [2141.45] Curry: But you've got space to fly them. You can't just take it. Yeah, and oh in my exactly. Yeah launch here [2146.57] Sync FPV: but like long-range like [2149.09] Sync FPV: scares me as well [2152.09] Sync FPV: The further away I get for myself that [2154.53] Sync FPV: The cut the the sort of like the concept of having to walk that far to go and get it is quite terrifying [2161.29] Sync FPV: so yeah, I [2163.85] Sync FPV: Maybe it's not for me [2166.45] Sync FPV: I'd like to try it, but I'm saying I'm like that lazy that I just I think everybody should try it because [2173.45] Curry: When I see quad pilots fly wing they fly them completely different to your average fix [2179.09] Curry: We try and stop [2181.09] Curry: Would be like let's launch we go up to a hundred meters nice and safe and we can do the circuits [2185.57] Curry: Whereas all pilots were like, well, we want it like six inches off the floor and they're like, is that like a cord? [2190.53] Curry: just [2191.49] Curry: About which is brilliant because if you get the right sort of wing and it you know, it's it's [2196.41] Curry: Properly laminate and something you flow that into the grass [2199.05] Curry: It's just gonna sort of spin over and and pretty much survive but yeah when you've got sort of expensive [2205.89] Curry: Sort of balsa type things they just turn into matches right? Yeah. Yeah, that's not so good [2213.01] Sync FPV: yeah, I guess like this that the [2215.85] Sync FPV: the capacity for tricks and flying like kind of [2219.53] Sync FPV: Like through gaps and close to the ground and stuff [2222.45] Sync FPV: Is it it must be a lot less forgiving than a quad rope because you basically you've got to be going over a certain speed [2228.21] Sync FPV: Or it'll fall out the air you kind of like any kind of [2231.61] Sync FPV: Difference in air pressure and stuff. Could hope this move [2235.09] Stephen: Does most wings move about quite a lot compared to a quad? Yeah, I don't I don't know [2240.65] Curry: I I've seen people fly with like the old-fashioned gimbals back in the day [2245.61] Curry: And you can see that the model moves around like this [2248.89] Curry: But I just think it's a it's a very different feeling because you know [2252.89] Curry: How a quad is like it's got the aerodynamics if just a brick and it just pushes through the air and it doesn't have a problem [2257.93] Curry: so when you're coming down low in a wing you've got basically this turbulence from the air on the bottom and you're bumping around and [2265.09] Curry: you've the [2267.45] Curry: When you shoot a gap under a tree on on the quad, it's it's it's non-existent [2272.21] Curry: It's just like I'm just flying low when you do that on a wing it you get that [2275.93] Curry: It's a bit more about them because you're literally buffeting around trying to think can this handle it? [2281.37] Curry: Am I gonna hit the floor? Am I gonna get through? That's the one theory, right? Yeah, it's more scary [2285.81] Curry: And the other fun thing about flying fixed-wing is getting a couple of friends up and flying formation [2291.21] Curry: Which I generally find is easier than quads because quads are kind of a little bit teeny and they can be quite hard to follow [2298.53] Curry: And if you've if you've had done it and your friend in the field saying I'm by the tree and you like which tree [2304.73] Curry: And then it's you just like going around trying to find each other all day [2308.91] Curry: But yeah, if you get the chance definitely check it out because I think everybody should give both camps a go because there's [2315.81] Stephen: No, it's the iron and the iron have radar really caught my eye [2318.85] Stephen: I'd like to find an excuse to try that the one where it shows you where other pilots are on the OSD [2324.37] Stephen: I haven't seen it. It's a little marker and an arrow not just a home arrow, but arrow to the other pilots [2330.45] Stephen: It's like an extra board. How are they how they communicating through the different different 43 megahertz system that you like? [2338.29] Stephen: Just another way. That's cool. Yeah [2340.37] Frank: This episode was recorded in front of a live online audience [2343.93] Frank: Downloaded and edited to make sense when it played audio only [2347.37] Frank: Sensors to please the iTunes people hosted on the internet forwarded through to your podcast provider [2352.25] Frank: Downloaded playing on your device and is now playing in your ears all thanks to our patreons [2357.93] Frank: Consider joining them and you'll also get other online benefits find out more at patreon.com [2364.21] Sync FPV: Let's drone out [2365.81] Sync FPV: Is there any sort of recommendation for like if somebody's never done it before? What's the best? [2371.09] Sync FPV: Wing to start like some are obviously easier to fly than others, right? [2378.29] Curry: In in terms of like easy things to fly it it's probably a model like that one which is there's got a [2384.81] Curry: Dihedral so when you launch them they want they want to stay upright, but that's okay. You're very sort of traditional [2390.61] Curry: It's got a tail. It's got a rudder [2394.33] Stephen: What was the dihedral again is that curly up bit at the ends? [2397.45] Curry: Yeah, the dihedral is the curly up thing. So if you let go of the sticks naturally it will just sort of come level [2403.85] Curry: Whereas a wing I guess you let go of the sticks naturally it wants to kill itself [2411.05] Curry: I mean wings a kite they're in they're more interesting to launch for sure. I've seen so many [2417.77] Curry: Both launch failures and different ways of launching [2421.21] Curry: Cuz cuz I'm short-sighted. I have to launch with my goggles on so I'm completely blind one [2427.53] Curry: My mouth on the stick [2429.85] Curry: So I've got my my thumb on the aileron elevate and I'm launching blind and then I'm trying to sort of recover it [2436.85] Curry: Trying to find a horizon before it falls back out the sky again. That's that's fun [2442.69] Sync FPV: Cheers Richard for the recommendation of the zoo the zode or zod. How do you say that word? [2449.89] Curry: Zode make a bunch of pretty nice little wings which are fairly easy to fly and fairly forgiving [2456.17] Stephen: All right. Cool. No, I'm sure Jack would recommend anything so long as it was covered with a good amount of tape as well [2462.77] Curry: Yeah, there's there's loads of like this models that you can build with a bit of foam board. I see [2470.65] Sync FPV: Alright, no promises, but I wouldn't mind giving it a go at some point. It's all about trying new things, right? I [2478.13] Sync FPV: Think so. Yeah [2480.77] Sync FPV: There's a quite a few other projects [2483.41] Stephen: Piled up just not go around see. Yeah, I've been promising to make a wing for ages and I keep building quads because I [2491.53] Stephen: Just quite enjoy building quads. Well, yeah, it's sitting down there. It's still making no moves [2498.21] Stephen: It's getting really specific. You said you're gonna feel a wing from a quad [2502.13] Stephen: Yeah, I've got to decide which one to sacrifice [2505.05] Stephen: Well, the idea was that I was gonna build a quad that would be able to glide [2509.81] Stephen: By virtue of being pretty much kind of glued on to a wing a wing. I see so I've got a slider [2515.77] Sync FPV: I was kind of thinking the other way around a quad that you use purely to launch a wing [2520.93] Sync FPV: I thought that could be cool. I [2523.45] Stephen: Won't be able to retrieve the wing afterwards [2526.45] Stephen: Yeah, and I thought if they were attached that would be easier [2530.05] Stephen: Yeah [2531.21] Stephen: Yeah [2532.25] Stephen: Yeah, I'm just trying to figure out how it would work really and I've got a couple of frames cup [2537.33] Stephen: I've got quite a few frames now and I'm probably gonna have a I've got a spare AI as well. I think so [2543.25] Sync FPV: Do you actually enjoy building quite you just said you enjoy quite enjoy building quads [2547.57] Sync FPV: Do you really enjoy or do you like just enjoy the I don't enjoy just building. It's the [2553.45] Stephen: Experimenting like I've got kind of one of every different size and shape and I just like oh [2558.25] Stephen: I wonder how this would fly and I like [2560.93] Stephen: Put together an ultra light four-inch and then I'll wonder how this would fly and I make like a 5s [2565.89] Stephen: 4-inch that's a bit heavier and just kind of monkey around and try the different combinations [2570.77] Sync FPV: Cuz you know there it's weird isn't it? There's that there's there is a critical difference between [2575.73] Sync FPV: Building a quad and repairing a quad [2578.09] Sync FPV: It's like when when you build one [2580.05] Sync FPV: It's like all the parts are all new and they're all in their boxes and you can lay it all out like all the parts [2584.85] Sync FPV: Are fresh and that feels really good and that's really fun to do like a complete fresh build if you're repairing something [2590.77] Sync FPV: Yeah, having to like go through your kind of brush the mud off and like yeah [2595.05] Stephen: I got noise on my VTX again that it looks the same as it did last time [2599.77] Sync FPV: But now it's got lines all over it. So yeah, I really enjoy building, but I hate repairing [2604.81] Sync FPV: I think that's probably the best [2606.77] Sync FPV: analogy I can think of [2609.09] Stephen: Now I hear you. Hey, it's actually it's a lot easier now [2612.85] Stephen: I've gone to DJI because the camera either works or doesn't work [2616.17] Stephen: That the video system was one of my pet peeves of analog and I typically only get really great video on the lower power [2622.33] Stephen: Models where ESC interference was a non-issue [2625.65] Stephen: 2s and 3s models were quite easy to get clean video, but you go up to higher power [2631.37] Stephen: Models, there was always a bit of bit of noise getting through there [2635.33] Sync FPV: Yeah, I didn't quite get to success on analog, which is probably a blessing [2640.45] Sync FPV: but [2641.65] Sync FPV: Yeah, I suppose just what's the best way to get rid of that just get get the wires away from the ESC [2647.97] Stephen: Yeah, I think it's pretty much got to run the video wire separate to everything else and keep it as short as possible [2653.73] Stephen: Don't like coil up the video wire on top of everything else [2657.09] Stephen: You know trim the wire to length and run the video wire as far away from the high voltage stuff as possible [2662.57] Curry: Yeah, yeah [2664.05] Curry: I found some some branded [2666.17] Curry: VTX has just worked so much better than others like a rush FPV is always when I came back to that was always so so clean [2673.49] Curry: Does it didn't matter what you did? [2674.81] Curry: My wires are like a bundled up mess a bit of a frame and it's like beautiful picture all the time [2681.53] Sync FPV: Yeah, rush stuff there. I love the little [2685.45] Sync FPV: Plastic boxes and like all the little details that they have on there [2689.41] Curry: Actual VTX actually look like a heat very much about the packaging aren't you I see you like it when it's all new and in the [2695.21] Curry: Boxes. Yeah, I'm to lay it out in rows. I'm shallow [2702.01] Sync FPV: No [2704.29] Sync FPV: Yeah, I see a question from Richard Warwick says any FPV events planned for 2022 [2712.41] Sync FPV: Yeah, I believe there is [2714.81] Sync FPV: I've got to get this right. I think it's called prop fest right is a an event that's happening in 2022 [2720.37] Curry: I believe it's going to be I think so that there was a lot of there was a lot of stuff on Facebook about it [2727.33] Sync FPV: Last year about yeah, because they I think they got a location didn't they or they yeah [2732.85] Sync FPV: They secured a location and they were just doing the planning stuff. So yeah, look up prop fest and the drone fest [2742.89] Sync FPV: 2021 that was last year the one that was at the big [2746.45] Sync FPV: coal mine headstocks [2748.85] Sync FPV: that I don't know if you guys saw any videos that came out from that there was a lovely event was put on by magic FPV and [2756.77] Sync FPV: Just movie it wasn't that the other guy so two guys put on this FPV event [2760.21] Sync FPV: They had a little bit of racing. The focus was primarily freestyle [2763.85] Sync FPV: It's a great event and I think they're gonna [2766.33] Sync FPV: They should be doing another one this year as well. So we may have two freestyle events [2771.97] Sync FPV: For FPV in the UK, which would be awesome in one year [2775.65] Sync FPV: I mean take that rampage with your silly one event a year [2781.41] Sync FPV: That would be fantastic. Yeah, it would be sick. I would love it [2786.13] Curry: You mentioned you had some projects ready or projects waiting to get on with is there anything you can talk about that you you want [2793.61] Curry: to coming up [2794.89] Curry: soon coming from sync FPV [2797.45] Sync FPV: Yeah, okay. I'll let one out there out the woodwork [2801.25] Sync FPV: exclusive [2802.93] Sync FPV: exclusive, yeah, so [2805.93] Sync FPV: Actually, yeah. All right [2808.57] Stephen: Let me get it. Let me go get it. I'm just imagining like off off screen here. There's just a huge pile of embargoed [2816.37] Stephen: Stuff just a mountain off to one side of the camera. There's one mountain says NDA and [2822.13] Curry: It's like we can talk about this one [2824.33] Sync FPV: Yeah, basically, this is already out ish in a limited batch so I can show you this little guy [2830.25] Sync FPV: This is a this is from a company called spider cinematics and it is a [2835.85] Sync FPV: Mojo [2837.13] Sync FPV: Is the name of the frame and it is a it's primarily a cinematic thing [2841.33] Sync FPV: It's three and a half inch [2842.69] Sync FPV: Although it looks a little bit bigger because the frame is big and chunky because it supports this [2847.45] Sync FPV: One axis sort of gyro here for the for the GoPro and the idea of that heat [2854.05] Sync FPV: Yeah, yeah, it does [2855.09] Sync FPV: I mean, it's it's this is because you the idea is that you can go completely down and so you can see straight down [2860.25] Sync FPV: So you can get that sort of mavic style [2863.45] Sync FPV: Cinematic tripod in the sky kind of look [2866.05] Sync FPV: When you're just looking straight down, but this is the TV cameras below the frame it is. Yeah, the FPV camera does not move [2873.69] Sync FPV: I'm gonna be doing a whole video on this. So I'll just sort of like gloss over the bits [2878.05] Sync FPV: Here because they'll be much more detailed [2880.53] Sync FPV: But yeah, the idea is kind of like it's kind of between the FPV [2884.01] Sync FPV: style and the DJI style of filming you can sort of [2887.69] Sync FPV: Switch the camera in flight to be down up or you can use a rotary [2891.73] Sync FPV: it's basically this is on an aux channel depending on what you want the angle to be and [2896.17] Sync FPV: It's also connected to the flight controller. So it self stabilizes question [2900.29] Sync FPV: This will always stay no matter what the angle of the quad. Oh, so it locks right so you can point straight down [2907.41] Sync FPV: And then you can dive down but the camera will stay like that. How do you know what you're filming? [2913.17] Sync FPV: So you don't? [2916.05] Sync FPV: But you're on a wide-angle lens so you're kind of like I know it's pointing down [2923.53] Sync FPV: You also have [2925.69] Sync FPV: Dual operator mode option. They have one that has two vistas and there's one that sits on the top of the GoPro [2932.37] Sync FPV: And there's one that sits there and then the one that's on the top of the GoPro [2936.13] Sync FPV: They can be controlling that aux channel on a dial or whatever they want [2940.01] Sync FPV: So they can be so you have dual operator just like you would with like a professional cine [2944.77] Sync FPV: rig like a [2946.53] Sync FPV: inspire or [2948.53] Sync FPV: Matrice or something [2949.37] Stephen: If you've got something like an Insta 360 one of theirs you can do a bit of reframing in post [2954.57] Stephen: Can't you like move it around a bit? [2956.41] Sync FPV: So this is something that was going to cover in the video [2958.81] Sync FPV: The idea that [2960.45] Sync FPV: One of the questions that I asked the guy when he sent to me was like, why don't you just use the 360 camera? [2965.25] Sync FPV: like it seems like you're trying to [2967.49] Sync FPV: use [2968.37] Sync FPV: Like a lot more like engineering to get over a problem that you maybe you wouldn't have because the 360 camera you can do all the reframing [2974.49] Stephen: I'm gonna go all the way. That's it. Like unless you've got your lens one and then you've got to have [2979.29] Sync FPV: Quad but the problem with that is that you you have a 4k or 5k if you're lucky image [2986.97] Sync FPV: over the entire [2988.85] Sync FPV: 360 degree. So once you crop it once you get once you reframe you have a really low quality image [2994.05] Sync FPV: And he said that there's no way a [2996.53] Sync FPV: Like any serious production company would accept that [3000.13] Sync FPV: To put next to their sort of like professional great [3002.61] Sync FPV: You can get away with like a hero 10 hero 9 in like a professional shoot [3007.13] Sync FPV: If it's recut with like other cameras like DSLRs or like I don't know cinecams [3012.05] Sync FPV: You can kind of if you get really good quality [3014.97] Sync FPV: GoPro hero 10 stuff. Yeah, you can get away with it, but you would never get away with it with it [3019.17] Stephen: Yes, an Insta 360 when it's on the Insta 360. You don't have to go the full 360 [3024.49] Stephen: You can just have a wide angle. I was it was more that their software lets you do that kind of [3030.89] Sync FPV: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, cool. Yeah. I mean you could do that with with GoPro as well [3034.97] Sync FPV: I don't think that they might be slightly wider on the 360 cams because I imagine it's it's 180, right? [3040.61] Sync FPV: If it's one lens, so and the gopro is like 150 something like that [3045.97] Sync FPV: But yeah, it's it's really nice. And when you real steady, it looks really nice really really nice [3052.53] Sync FPV: So I will yeah look out for that. That should be in a couple of weeks [3056.29] Sync FPV: Sounds nice. Yeah [3058.89] Sync FPV: Yeah, it's cool. It's nice. I think he contacted me. It was probably [3063.45] Sync FPV: It was last year. So it was like it was a while ago and [3066.89] Sync FPV: Yeah [3068.25] Sync FPV: Yeah, I've just he's been busy. I've been busy. I think he has actually released it. I think even [3073.21] Sync FPV: Yeah, Richard Warwick is on it with the links join theory is where you can I think it might be odd pre-ordering for batch [3080.09] Sync FPV: 2 now or they might have some about one left. I think they all they're all gone. But yeah, he's [3085.81] Sync FPV: Let's see. You need constant clear. Let's just see new ideas. It's cool. Right? And yeah, just like I say [3090.57] Sync FPV: It's like hitting that middle point between the Mavic and the FPV style [3094.77] Sync FPV: So you can suddenly switch gears and go I don't want to fly fast anymore [3097.49] Sync FPV: I just want to look down and hover or you know, and one of the really cool things actually is [3102.25] Sync FPV: When you are doing sort of like chase footage because the gimbal is like locked at an angle [3107.17] Sync FPV: If you suddenly like decide you need to go faster [3109.73] Sync FPV: You can just ramp up the speed and it's still perfectly in shot and that applies for backwards as well [3114.93] Sync FPV: So you can do these crazy sort of backwards [3117.05] Sync FPV: Moves away. There's that good stuff. That's great. The things just locked. Yeah, it's cool [3122.01] Sync FPV: So you basically you get a lot more usable footage [3125.05] Sync FPV: for like for chasing or subject shots than you would with an FPV thing [3130.57] Stephen: Even if it's my memory failing me. Did I see you also experiment with the new DJI action to a while back? [3136.93] Sync FPV: I did. Yeah, I I [3139.69] Sync FPV: Loned it from a shop. I didn't I didn't actually buy one so I don't have it anymore [3143.93] Sync FPV: But I did experiment and man like there's a few things to love like the way reduction man. Holy cow [3152.33] Sync FPV: Like going back to session five [3154.61] Sync FPV: It's lighter than that man [3156.25] Sync FPV: It's like it's even lighter than a session five [3158.29] Sync FPV: but if you've been flying hero sevens and eight's like [3161.21] Sync FPV: When you put that on you just feel like you've yeah, you feel like you've got super power for days. Yeah [3166.21] Sync FPV: Yeah, I imagine it's the opposite of when you put a GoPro on your drone thinking. I'll just stick this on here [3172.05] Sync FPV: Yeah, yeah [3174.21] Stephen: It's like driving a bus [3176.41] Stephen: Yeah, yes the image quality was it I mean use I'm getting usable [3181.33] Stephen: But maybe not stellar is kind of vibe. I've heard from people. I mean, yeah, it's it's fine [3186.93] Sync FPV: That's that's basically it. You're not gonna [3189.69] Sync FPV: You're not gonna be using it in [3191.77] Sync FPV: Like crazy cinematic productions or whatever, but you will for freestyle and stuff like that. I mean, it's totally totally adequate [3198.49] Sync FPV: I think that's super wide-angle lens as well. Like it's it's insane. I [3203.53] Sync FPV: It's it kind of made me feel a bit weird but for some people I think they'll like that as well because that's the subject [3209.09] Sync FPV: I see eat. Yeah, it looks faster and it looks kind of more crazy. But [3214.01] Sync FPV: Yeah, that's cool. I I like to see it, you know, we all like to see cameras that are [3219.45] Sync FPV: Suitable for our drones, you know, it's like cuz yeah, you feel like someone's actually listening for once [3225.45] Stephen: And yeah, each of you are actually listening to what FPV consumers want is is a good thing to see [3231.33] Sync FPV: I think it's weird that it's DJI the company that we all hated are sort of like yeah [3241.05] Sync FPV: Yeah, but now they're like [3243.05] Sync FPV: They made the digital FPV thing of reality and now they've made a tiny little action camera reality [3248.89] Sync FPV: Are they mocking us? So they go? [3250.97] Stephen: It's a bit of a kind of Google like tendency to kind of make something and go well [3255.37] Stephen: That was an interesting experiment and then forget completely about it and a couple of years later be surprised [3260.09] Stephen: They even made it at all when someone tells them, you know [3262.97] Sync FPV: Yeah, all right. I did hear a rumor though [3265.29] Sync FPV: Do you know what there's a rumor that GoPro are gonna be launching for different cameras this year because you know [3272.01] Sync FPV: Usually they do like one or two. Yeah, like they might do the silver and black or whatever [3277.31] Sync FPV: but they're doing for there's like [3280.05] Sync FPV: people think there's a good chance they might do a [3285.77] Sync FPV: Said everyone every year on every video they post [3290.69] Curry: But yeah, I only just got a ten which I got for sort of going on holiday and diving with and it's like [3297.29] Curry: Yeah, well, it's really nice, but Jesus. I would come [3302.37] Stephen: Like yeah, I've got a screen on the front is which is gonna be great on a quad, isn't it? [3306.73] Curry: Screen on the yes green on the front's fantastic if you're out there vlogging and you like hello to myself, but not so useful [3313.17] Sync FPV: What you want round Bandos really is it you don't want to be else to smash. Yeah, exactly [3318.33] Sync FPV: But I do I do use the screens on the sevens and eights to like just check the exposures [3323.97] Sync FPV: All right in every film, but then once it's in the quad, it's usually covered by a mount anyway, right? So [3328.37] Sync FPV: You're feeling the motor? [3330.65] Sync FPV: Yeah, exactly. Just use something like that. Then it's fine. But yeah, I don't know man. I feel like [3336.33] Sync FPV: the eights [3337.65] Sync FPV: The seven and eight they're basically I think they're equivalent weight the eight is tiny bit more [3342.21] Sync FPV: But you can take the feet off the bottom [3343.53] Sync FPV: It's just a couple of screws and then it's like six grams less than a seven [3347.25] Sync FPV: So they're like we can we can basically say they're the same [3351.81] Sync FPV: Any heavier than that? I just think it's not [3354.37] Sync FPV: Not good not doable for freestyle. Although maybe we probably said that you remember the days when 600 grams was like the limit [3361.45] Sync FPV: That was like your freestyle quad is supposed to be 600 grams anymore [3366.09] Sync FPV: And you're like you're stressing the flight controller too much or it's a lot of five and a half inch frames as well [3370.45] Stephen: I'm seeing that start to appear. You've got Chris Rosser who's got an AOS 5.5 out there in Japan [3375.85] Stephen: Yeah, I love you props with those [3378.41] Stephen: 5.2 [3380.53] Sync FPV: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, like that. I mean they're old badger and [3387.73] Sync FPV: See the moment, you know the old arm. It's an I say oh, yeah, I used to fly six inch, didn't they? [3393.21] Sync FPV: They did but they're five inch one cans for five and a half inch props as well [3397.57] Sync FPV: Okay, I didn't realize but then when I when I use an actual five inch frame [3401.17] Sync FPV: I could do now I put them together and I was like, wow, this is like way smaller and I never realized but [3406.13] Sync FPV: Yeah, I kind of I like the compactness of the five inch one though feels more nippy and more [3412.57] Stephen: I don't know. Yeah, I mean I fly a bunch of four inch and go into a five inch [3417.01] Stephen: Right, why doesn't this thing spin as fast, you know, do you fly for it like long-range those long-range cruises? [3423.17] Stephen: Or do you have like just know something a bit more punchy? [3429.17] Stephen: So with like, you know, there's 2004 motors that were really popular. Yeah. Yeah, you're so back [3435.07] Stephen: So I've got something like that with a sister in there [3438.37] Stephen: That's cool. And it's sort of dead cat so you can get good DVR. Yeah, exactly. So I just have the DVR from that [3445.45] Stephen: Express [3447.53] Stephen: 5s 700 milliamp GMB [3450.37] Stephen: Sweet [3453.89] Curry: As far as configuring wanted to be as outlier as possible, so four inch on yeah, no one else does that [3460.29] Sync FPV: There's no props or batteries. Don't you find it anywhere? [3464.33] Stephen: That was like I said, it's an experiment. I wanted to see how it would fly cuz they're [3468.09] Stephen: 2004 motors were everywhere and they're really cheap. Yeah [3470.53] Stephen: Yeah, but I was I knew they were gonna be crap on a five inch because I built the five inch ultra light with [3476.81] Stephen: 2204 and it was [3478.57] Sync FPV: Impressive. Oh [3480.97] Sync FPV: Yeah, I think I've got a five-inch ultra light and I was just thinking 2004 on those I think it was a struggle [3486.45] Stephen: But I can't can't be right. Let me just put on a four-inch it it shifts now [3491.85] Sync FPV: They are man. These are 2004 and they're on a five inch, but this is one of them ultra light things [3498.77] Sync FPV: Yeah, I did that I only flew it a couple of times there the catalyst machine works one [3503.65] Stephen: Do you notice this one the shocker ultralight? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah [3507.93] Stephen: You go for blue. I'm more of a yellow fan [3511.45] Stephen: Yellow and blue is kind of a coloring. So I think the yellow [3516.45] Sync FPV: If you are oh, yeah, you put it in some dark area like you can find it [3527.65] Stephen: When you get to autumn and all the leaves fall and they're all yellow for a couple of weeks [3532.09] Stephen: Completely screwed when you crash because it just looks like every leaf in the field [3536.45] Stephen: But otherwise it works. Yeah [3539.45] Sync FPV: Yeah, that was that was the subject of a recent video. I did which was [3543.49] Sync FPV: color matching props and quads and stuff like that and like why'd you do it and [3549.09] Sync FPV: Because you can yeah, I mean I can't really explain it. Just it's the same reason people like [3557.25] Sync FPV: Or is it I was gonna say it's the same reason people like to have a nice looking car [3560.73] Sync FPV: And I saw on the car because when you're inside you can't tell and that's kind of the argument against color matching quads [3565.69] Sync FPV: And stuff isn't it's like we're flying it from the inside. You can never see it, but it's like [3570.29] Sync FPV: Yeah, but other people could put other people can't see a quad can they it's like other people can see your car when you're [3575.17] Sync FPV: Flying down the street, but they can't really see a quad when just flying through the air [3579.33] Stephen: Forced unless you're like super boring when it comes to like buying some 3d printer filament [3585.13] Stephen: You're probably gonna buy something other than black [3587.77] Stephen: I bet you I mean everyone buys black to start with and they print a couple of their little boats or whatever and [3593.01] Stephen: And then you're like, well, what shall I buy next and you just buy a weird color, don't you? [3597.05] Sync FPV: So there you go, man, and there are some weird colors out there in CPU [3601.65] Sync FPV: TPU land some great stuff [3603.73] Sync FPV: But yeah, I use the same smart neon range. They got like a cyan and a magenta. That is just [3610.57] Sync FPV: Say, yeah, they're great, aren't they? [3612.69] Stephen: Real good. They're really reliable. I've got to have a filament dryer though [3616.81] Stephen: The quality of princes has been massively improved since I got a TPU [3621.09] Stephen: Dryer box and just crank it for a couple of hours before doing the print it gets all the little things specific [3627.81] Sync FPV: For 3d printing or is it just a food dehydrator or is it something else? [3632.49] Stephen: No, it's it's got like rollers in the bottom [3634.85] Stephen: So you can just put the whole spool in there and a hole in the lid and you can set the temperature [3640.09] Stephen: And it goes for three or six hours. It just dries the filament out [3644.21] Stephen: Nice, so it is designed for 3d printing. Yeah [3648.33] Stephen: But it's kind of why they're behind 3d printer behind there. I'd just be making a racket and [3654.57] Sync FPV: Just send me a link. Yeah, cuz yeah, some of my prints are going a bit funny [3658.09] Stephen: Yeah, you get these little surface bubbles and bubbles. Yeah, it gets rid of those [3662.93] Sync FPV: Cool cool. That's good to know [3664.93] Stephen: Are you gonna change your colors or are these sync FPV's colors forever more who have attempted to redefine your branding? [3672.17] Sync FPV: Well, this is like brand 2 I think [3676.65] Sync FPV: But yeah because when I started out I only did like single color quads [3681.25] Sync FPV: It was like everything had to be the same color on the cards [3684.17] Sync FPV: So these two here on the back there like a white one and a red one [3688.17] Sync FPV: So those are the first two quads they ever built. I basically rebuilt them [3692.25] Sync FPV: From the same parts, you know [3693.93] Sync FPV: It's kind of hard to get like the old motors that you used to use like trying to find them again [3698.69] Sync FPV: I think I spent like I think I found like three of the Teemo F40 Pro 2's and I [3705.01] Sync FPV: Couldn't find another one for ages till it sort of popped up on a second-hand thing [3708.81] Sync FPV: Kind of a I don't know why I bothered but like it was just nice thing to have [3712.93] Sync FPV: But yeah, it was always like had to be red or white or green or you couldn't have any deviation [3719.37] Sync FPV: And then I was just like well, I like those kind of cyberpunk II color combinations [3723.57] Sync FPV: You know a little bit eighties pink and blue. Let's try that on a quad and then I was like, that's it [3727.57] Sync FPV: They're all just gonna be this now. I love it. There's never it never gonna be anything else. So no [3732.13] Sync FPV: I'm never gonna bother rebranding again [3736.77] Sync FPV: Yeah, I've done them all already this is the one I sell done I did it's not like I just went in on this one [3741.89] Sync FPV: First had a bunch of different colors and stuff and different logos. You've committed anyway [3746.23] Stephen: You've got like 300 pairs of props down there. So you've got to get through before you can change. You're right [3751.87] Sync FPV: You're actually right and this this is like a this this is like a print, you know, like I can't I'd have to change that [3758.79] Sync FPV: I can't do that [3762.15] Sync FPV: That's not agree, that's not a blue stay that's real. Yeah [3766.79] Stephen: Yeah, so what's your FPV name Steven, I know you know, uh, I'm like SEO unoptimized [3774.03] Stephen: I this is Steven FPV [3777.47] Stephen: Shiny video stuff. It's my YouTube video account from like [3782.43] Stephen: Which I never wanted to be bothered to rename. So yeah, I don't really have many followers. Don't worry about me [3787.59] Stephen: I only fly when I I only only film stuff when I [3791.43] Stephen: Crash and it goes wrong and I'm like what happened here when it goes, right? [3795.11] Stephen: I don't publish the videos because I'm having fun flying and I don't really like editing videos [3799.93] Stephen: So when I was having a great time and I pull off tricks, I don't like review them afterwards [3804.93] Stephen: I'm just like oh, yeah, I had a nice day flying right feet up [3809.01] Sync FPV: Do you put a camera on the quad like an action camera to film it or do you not bother? [3814.01] Stephen: Usually no, no [3817.21] Sync FPV: Yeah, all right, I see [3819.85] Stephen: So I get okay DVR but it's not amazing [3822.85] Stephen: I built a seven inch purely so I could carry the action cam without feeling it snap the arm [3830.47] Stephen: Unfortunately, I think I actually went through and got a big twig, but that's my my hero weight build [3835.27] Stephen: So it's currently looking a little bit worse for wear back there. I'm gonna double up the rear arms. But yeah, it was quite nice [3843.39] Stephen: That is the bang good clone of the craft machine work bango seven [3849.15] Stephen: Yeah, and they just made it the same as the five inch [3851.99] Stephen: So there's supposed to be a rear brace out here and this bits a bit longer on the original [3855.99] Stephen: I see even so only had five inch five mil arms. So I'm gonna just double up the arms and make them 10 mil [3863.8] Sync FPV: Does it work like that? You just get a longer screw in? [3866.8] Stephen: Yeah, it's got longer screws and shorter standoffs and just put two arms on top of each other clamp it in there a bit of that [3873.28] Stephen: Dampening greaser between the two arms members and off you go. Is that there is that the Chris Russell approved? [3879.28] Sync FPV: Dampening grease that he told everyone we have to go and grease up our arms [3883.2] Sync FPV: Yeah, yeah, you don't want those members flapping around plus that's something you guys have tried [3889.08] Stephen: I did build one of my frames with that. It was alright. I can't say I'm I don't build enough frames notice [3896.08] Stephen: But I figured it can't hurt like if something's a little loose instead of rattling. It's just gonna squidge, isn't it? [3901.36] Stephen: Is it messy? Like oh, yeah, stupid dealing with that shit. It's not for easy. It's like it's so thick [3909.06] Stephen: Like yeah, that's the idea right it's meant to be [3914.82] Stephen: Almost like glue it's like a hair away from being as sticky as like proper epoxy or it's almost [3921.46] Stephen: It feels like unset aroldite when you apply it and Jesus. I know you mean? Yeah. Yeah, that's bad [3928.62] Sync FPV: Wow, I mean if it actually had a massive benefit like we'd all be doing it [3932.84] Sync FPV: Right surely by now the word word will have spread that we have to do this [3937.7] Stephen: Arm grease this sounds like a bit like you definitely want to be careful applying X it just gets everywhere, right? [3943.62] Curry: It's like when people used to soft mount motors because exactly [3947.74] Sync FPV: Exactly. Yeah, I remember that I saw from my advice that it was like, oh you have to do this over on does but I [3955.26] Sync FPV: think I think I see [3957.34] Sync FPV: Noticed an improvement when I stopped doing it. It wasn't like it didn't make any difference. It was making it worse. I'm sure [3963.74] Sync FPV: because [3964.82] Sync FPV: When you put that sort of TPU under the motor and then you screw down [3969.1] Sync FPV: If you screwed you might do you it squishes and then the motor doesn't spin properly and stuff [3975.3] Sync FPV: It was like it was stupid. It was very subjective about how much you should tie exactly. Yeah [3981.7] Stephen: Yeah, especially if you've got like c-clips because it's when you get some frames and they've got you've got c-clip motors on micros [3989.14] Stephen: If they haven't cut the hole wide enough the c-clip grabs on the hole [3993.14] Stephen: And you have to like Dremel out the hole or the motor just kind of grinds and makes horrible noises [3999.14] Sync FPV: Geez. Yeah. Yeah. I mean that was the problem. Basically you had this TPU that was touching the bearing [4005.82] Sync FPV: And then it would just slow smells interesting. Yeah punch out [4011.02] Stephen: Yeah [4013.06] Stephen: I mean we did some stupid stuff [4015.5] Stephen: Tilted motors like the arms that weren't flat tilting the entire arm forward [4021.5] Stephen: That's not good at the camera. I [4023.94] Stephen: Think instead of tilting the camera someone was like wait, there's a problem here [4027.46] Stephen: We want to be going forwards instead of up so they're like tilt the motors forwards. You see some one or two frames [4032.94] Stephen: I think it was a phase that from the number of frames must have lasted less than six months and then everyone's like [4038.14] Stephen: No, stop stop. Stop. Stop. We'll just move the camera. We'll just move the camera and [4042.78] Stephen: You know, yeah [4044.28] Sync FPV: After that, that's that's funny that that approach of just like well [4048.54] Sync FPV: This is how we'll do this thing and then nobody nobody sort of questioned it. Everyone's just doing tilted motors and then [4055.26] Sync FPV: Yeah, I understand. That's an engineering thing [4059.26] Sync FPV: Curry kitten I I [4062.1] Sync FPV: Remember you made a sim, right? [4064.9] Sync FPV: Yes, so did you? [4067.14] Sync FPV: Yeah, but like I'm my day job is the game developer [4070.5] Sync FPV: So this was kind of like the hobby bet like you you just come off that from no game dev experience straight into a sim [4078.94] Curry: Yeah, did you just I just for us cool, man [4081.86] Curry: Well, I'll tell you what it was. It's like I was a programmer for quite a long time and then [4087.86] Curry: driven mental by working at IBM for 23 years and [4091.86] Curry: Then I didn't do anything for a couple of years and then it's like Oh program is actually quite good fun [4096.26] Curry: When you're not doing it properly [4098.06] Curry: Yeah, exactly. There's only at that time. I discovered how far sort of game engines has come for doing things really easily [4106.22] Curry: So if you're things like unity and unreal engine, it's like, yeah [4109.98] Curry: Wow, they're giving these things away and you can do loads of stuff with them [4113.74] Curry: And you know, you don't have to allocate your own memory [4121.58] Sync FPV: So, yeah, did you get is you still babble with it or if you just sort of like [4127.06] Curry: Yeah, no, I'm I'm still trying to do an update on my [4133.1] Curry: My last one. I was finding a problem because I I bought in an asset [4139.02] Curry: That does the weather for me and it turns out this thing breaks [4143.86] Curry: At certain versions using certain color space [4147.22] Curry: using certain [4148.22] Curry: Time when it rains and I'm having to wait for somebody to fix it, which is is sort of put me down [4155.26] Curry: But yeah [4155.94] Curry: I was just trying to get out another couple of levels and do some extra features and then I wanted to try and move over to [4162.18] Curry: Unreal engine just to try out some stuff on there really because that looks nice interesting [4166.42] Curry: I thought that was unreal engine seems interesting. Yeah, how it's very much built around [4173.3] Curry: Bigger better graphics, but it all seems a lot more tightly integrated together than some of the bits from unity. It's like, oh, we're running [4181.86] Curry: Whatever the render path is right now high definition render path or universal render path or normal and [4188.38] Curry: None of the modes can work together. It's very much asset here won't work and this shader won't work here [4193.66] Curry: That's that's what I don't like about unity. That's a bit of a pain [4196.62] Stephen: It looks useful. I've got lens flare and dynamic lighting until it rains and then I have to turn off this and turn off that [4203.9] Sync FPV: There you are. You're right. You're right about the unity thing [4206.86] Sync FPV: They have kind of they've diverged a little bit too much and they'll bring it back eventually [4212.14] Sync FPV: But yeah, this isn't a game development podcast. This is the [4216.9] Stephen: Skater skater mod weren't you for flying and that have you been tempted to break out and do your own proper sim? [4224.86] Sync FPV: so he featured uh [4227.22] Sync FPV: If you'd asked me a year ago, I would have said yes [4229.18] Sync FPV: I was always like something that I was thinking about doing but to be honest like [4235.74] Sync FPV: Work is [4237.18] Sync FPV: When when you do the same thing in work and your hobby time? [4242.06] Sync FPV: You kind of like go a bit mental. Yeah, so trying to make my own thing fine at the same time as [4248.1] Sync FPV: Making a game in the day is kind of hard [4251.1] Sync FPV: so I did sort of like toy with the idea and then just like making those mods and stuff was just sort of easing in just [4257.02] Sync FPV: like just curious about quad physics really much rather than [4261.34] Sync FPV: Trying to make a fun game for everyone to enjoy it was more just like I want a thing for me to mess around with [4266.86] Sync FPV: the skater thing was built [4268.82] Sync FPV: around the idea of [4271.54] Sync FPV: Practicing chase subjects, you know [4273.54] Sync FPV: like because you could do the skating and then you switch to the quad and then you [4277.1] Sync FPV: Because it had a great replay mode in the game. I was like you managed to do as much as you did do [4282.1] Stephen: I was like, okay, it's gonna just feel like [4284.98] Stephen: It's still gonna be a skate game, but it was really flying [4288.74] Stephen: Yeah [4294.26] Sync FPV: It's it's a very expensive skate game the beauty is that was the unity game and they had mod support [4299.22] Sync FPV: So I've built a quad sim physics simulation in unity already [4304.62] Sync FPV: So I just literally just copy pasted the code and then as long as you just take control of the camera from the game [4310.06] Sync FPV: You can do what you want with it, right? So I was just like well, let's just pretend this is a it's just literally move [4314.86] Sync FPV: the camera that's supposed to be following the [4317.66] Sync FPV: The skater onto this drone and yeah, and there you go. And then the game you are flying [4323.82] Sync FPV: So yeah [4324.44] Sync FPV: it was nice that the game had a decent replay mode that you could intercept the camera on and so while the skater was moving [4329.9] Sync FPV: Around that you you you do the line you then switch to the quad and then you can just keep restarting it [4335.72] Sync FPV: Keep going over again and practicing. It was real nice [4339.06] Sync FPV: Yeah, and you do. I mean I did learn a lot, you know, like because chasing stuff is weird like when you're chasing [4345.54] Sync FPV: targets like [4347.22] Sync FPV: Motorcross bikes or some or mountain bikes or things like that. There's such [4351.54] Sync FPV: There's like you have to have this sixth sense of when they're gonna sort of slow down or turn or go over a jump [4357.02] Sync FPV: You have to sort of like visualize their sort of velocity vector and how that's gonna change because if they suddenly hit a jump [4365.02] Sync FPV: They're now going up instead of forwards [4367.02] Sync FPV: So if you just keep going the same speed you're gonna go straight past them because they're now going up [4370.82] Sync FPV: so you kind of have to sort of like [4372.3] Sync FPV: Slow down a bit like just before they get to the jump and all this stuff and when you start visualizing the vectors [4378.74] Sync FPV: It's kind of like it's it becomes quite quite cool. But yeah, it's it's weird [4383.82] Sync FPV: And yeah [4384.68] Sync FPV: I've crashed into a mountain biker before because I just didn't think about that stuff at all [4389.14] Sync FPV: And so he went off a ramp and I just straight into the back of him because I was just like well [4392.5] Sync FPV: We're going the same speed. This is gonna be fine [4394.5] Sync FPV: It was the cine whip though, so it's fine. It was nice foam ducts. No damage [4401.38] Stephen: Do you think you take that further and make it make it make a challenge mode and make the skater go random paths instead of? [4408.9] Stephen: Instead of the power fantasy of being able to tell skaters where to go [4414.02] Sync FPV: Well, you know what they added a multiplayer mode [4415.98] Sync FPV: I thought it would be it would be really sick if I could make it work with that so that you could just [4420.94] Sync FPV: Hop in a lobby and just start chasing around people that were doing whatever they want [4424.3] Sync FPV: That would be cool. But hmm. Yeah, it's another one of those things, right? [4427.94] Sync FPV: It's like when you when you kind of put it out and you're like, right, that's done [4430.9] Sync FPV: You kind of you don't really want to touch it again. You're like, all right. Yeah, don't worry next next next fun project, please [4438.02] Sync FPV: so the chance to be going back to it is [4440.5] Sync FPV: Yeah, it's getting it's getting smaller and smaller, but never say never right, you know [4445.18] Sync FPV: Never say never [4446.78] Curry: Well, we have hit our hour and gone somewhat past so we should really wrap it up you have been watching [4453.62] Curry: Let's try now episode number whatever we don't know because Andrew Frank isn't here [4458.26] Curry: And if he's not here, we don't know the number you have been joined by our special guest down below sink FPV [4463.3] Sync FPV: Thank you so much for coming on. Thank you for having me. It's been an absolute pleasure. Really nice to talk to you guys [4468.66] Curry: Thanks and great to talk to you. We've got the wonderful Steven slash Bell Rick shiny video stuff [4473.98] Curry: You're gonna have to sit on one of these names. Oh [4476.78] Stephen: Maybe they'll come a day when I actually get my branding together, but not any time soon. Thanks everyone [4483.62] Curry: I've been Kerry kitten. You've been watching us and we'll see you next week [4487.38] Curry: Bye for now and you can find hopefully sinks YouTube channel in our description down below. See you all next time. Thanks guys [4495.54] Sync FPV: telemetry lost
