[17.68] Lee: Sam dama like he dread on with the show. [53.86] Jack: Hello and welcome you're listening to let's drone out tonight we are joined by everyone's favorite curry kitten hello he land a plane and he didn't break the one property had I did have the other props in the bag I then found out after put it away but it worked but it's not a video unless you ratchet up the tension though is it I was I was I was on the edge of my seat. [80.74] Jack: Tonight's special guest painless 360 good evening I had to explain that painless was the name of the gun from the predator and explain predator and a versus alien is a different film and then I had to explain where the pill come from and everything I had a long long chat the other day about that and shiny video stuff Steven is here. [109.7] Stephen: Sounds like painless may have got a rather extended Wikipedia entry by now. [114.9] Lee: Well that's very nice you to say that it's just the weather. [120.82] Stephen: Someone's a good humor tonight looking forward to this. [124.34] Jack: And I am bright until I fly and I am okay I'm in a bit of pain but the procedure went well and. [135.54] Jack: Good stuff so many people now know what my insides look like a lot of hello pain this is in the chat. [146.42] Lee: I was looking at when I was lost on the show and it was about the second of September last year it was a couple of days before we went to the. [157.38] Lee: There was a show we all know no it was the one up here the one in the middle of the question. [163.62] Jack: Western it was Austin Park where I inappropriately touched. [170.02] Jack: Andy also. [173.06] Jack: Sorry Andy. [175.3] Lee: To be fair anytime you tell somebody it's inappropriate isn't it yeah that's a whole thing I'm not getting involved in but yeah. [184.66] Stephen: What's painless been up to then what what's been going through your world recently. [190.1] Lee: Well we were just talking about before we came on the pre show about the last week and a half. [198.26] Lee: The big thing has been SSD drives and changing over to my new main computer so the reason that I was so desperate to get in and do the pre show so so thank you to Jack for just letting me jump on here. [209.94] Lee: Is that this is literally the first ever kind of streaming thing on a new rig. [216.18] Lee: So this machine has been in in place about a week and it's a you know it's a nice modern system with SSD drives and all the big fancy graphics cards and stuff for the video editing. [228.5] Lee: And it's my old almost eight years old so it's been upgraded several times but you know you know you get to the point where the motherboard is just you know. [236.1] Lee: It's had it yes you're putting lipstick on a pig and then you just I can't do this anymore and then this one hopefully is going to keep me going anyway. [245.06] Lee: One story short this has an SSD and it goes like stink so I thought okay my friends have put an SSD in one of his laptops so I got an SSD and put it in my laptop and then my wife happened to see it and went oh my machine is running a bit slow so it's afternoon I put an SSD and so everything in the house is SSD so at the moment not a huge amount of radio control stuff but all the computers in the house are now SSD drive and have extra memory and if any of you are listening to this and you're running on a PC. [275.38] Lee: That you've had for a little while and it's really like a pig and it always sounds like it's on the spin cycle of a washing machine and you ask it to do something and you have to wait and you don't get a cup of coffee. [285.7] Lee: Get yourself an SSD drive it's dead simple to do it's probably three to four hours and most of that is just sat watching a little bar move across the screen as it copies the files over. [295.22] Stephen: Put the SSD in you will never look back and it's only much the most affordable upgrade you can do right now because the prices on CPUs have shut up prices on memory it picking up again prices on graphics cards have been insane for several years but SSDs are pennies now aren't they? [310.42] Lee: I was really surprised because I went on there and got because they're all two terabytes I've been putting in here the last time I looked at SSDs it was kind of you know mortgage you have territory and it's like 130 150 quid for a two terabyte. [325.14] Lee: And that's easily enough for a boot drive you know it's a Samsung it's the 870s so they're not bad drives so anyway. [332.9] Stephen: That's a nice performer for those who aren't following the numbers game. [336.02] Lee: Yeah it just makes such a difference but the interesting thing is it did make me think of the hobby because I was one of those people that I kind of knew I needed an SSD because the old machine was running like a pig in its case of do you continue to put money into that old machine knowing you're running out of road? [354.34] Lee: Or do you make the jump? [356.66] Lee: And my friend as I said put an SSD into one of his computers and came and just said to me oh my god it's transformed it and I was like how's it really? [367.86] Lee: And then one of my other friends did it well he didn't do it he gave it to a PC shop and they swapped it over and he got it back and he went wow it's like a nuke it's amazing. [377.22] Lee: And I thought okay maybe this is this is something I need to look at and it kind of made me think of all those instances in the hobby where we have our own little things that we like and somebody else over here has something else that they like and they rave about and because we haven't experienced it we kind of dismiss it as a you know well you've got your thing and I've got my thing over here and I'm happy with my thing. [398.82] Lee: Digital yeah and then you go over there and you try it and you go oh my lord this is amazing why didn't why didn't nobody tell me? [411.14] Lee: Well that is one of the problems with DGI though isn't it that once you do try it [415.78] Lee: and you do the HD thing uh you know when you go back to analog it is kind of like oh god it feels [421.3] Lee: like you've got all smudge on it you know it it spoils analog a little bit. Yeah I did the uh [426.66] Stephen: SSD upgrade for my mum over Christmas moved her from the spinning disc a clickery-classery one [432.74] Stephen: yeah she doesn't doesn't complain about anything and but then it's like oh wow isn't it fast? [438.34] Lee: Yeah well my wife's big PC um when she bought it she only wants to do office on it so we didn't [445.86] Lee: you know we didn't need a massive high performance driver lots of memory and then she's got into all [450.98] Lee: of this maker stuff so she's got you know vinyl cutters and printers and all kinds of you know [457.14] Lee: more machines than I've got and that's saying something. So dealing with big graphics files [462.58] Lee: you know she'd load a graphics file and she was saying it would take I would be able to have a [466.5] Lee: shower and make a cup of coffee in the time it took to load the image literally and she just [470.74] Lee: tried it now after me doing this afternoon and it's three seconds and it was on the screen. [476.5] Stephen: And you don't need to worry about disc defrag as well on carrying on down this brave tangent that [481.86] Stephen: we forged Caroline Tyler RC. If you've got an SSD you don't need to do the whole painful disc defrag [488.02] Stephen: which you might remember if you were a Windows 95 user back in the day because defrag are only [493.94] Stephen: required if you want to make all the data contiguous and SSDs are quite happy just don't [498.82] Stephen: pick data out from all over the drive it doesn't have to be in a nice neat pattern so no more [503.38] Lee: defrag. It's that legacy of us having discs and tracks and sectors on a physical spinning medium [510.42] Lee: and we don't have that on this SSD. It's not looking healthy anymore. No a running check [514.98] Lee: disk to make sure the disk that I was about to was very good because you know check disk was [518.66] Lee: something I first ran at the end of the 80s and it was kind of like oh I remember this it's really [524.9] Lee: good. So apart from that to answer your question Steve, most of it has been the kind of stuff [529.78] Lee: behind me see we're into that thing where the cameras they're all around again where you know [535.06] Lee: planes and quads and stuff and I was saying to Currie before we came on the problem is is that [540.74] Lee: whenever the weather is really good you don't seem to get anything in that needs to be flown [545.54] Lee: for review or for testing and then as soon as the weather turns stuff starts turning up so my poor [552.82] Lee: dining table is covered in planes as well so and what it means is that the first half is [558.98] Stephen: remarkably neat in there it doesn't look like a man who's obsessed with building planes at all [563.3] Lee: it looks like you've properly tidied the place. Well no what you can't see is each side what I've [568.66] Lee: done is carefully carefully very you know the tone of neatness yeah absolutely it's like a [574.82] Lee: gorgeous house there's like towers each side of it. I like the way that you know anyone who's [581.78] Jack: a patreon of Lee's I love how he tests his rig on our show so if there's any f**k ups this on here [590.82] Jack: and his patreon nice sorry I've been starting to get a little digging hey yeah well you know [599.14] Lee: it's this I was pretty confident that's why I wanted to be hit early brother just to double check [605.06] Lee: um ever the professional but the CDs behind you as well I believe oh geez wrong thing again yes [615.94] Lee: yes old CDs I do I do it's one of the last bits of media that I haven't chucked out [623.78] Lee: everything else has pretty much gone including most of the DVDs and things these days [627.86] Jack: yeah Curry's got a right hard drive on for physical media and like physical media and [634.58] Curry: printing controller holders oh yeah this is true yeah you put your controllers up they're all there [643.06] Curry: but yeah if you're a gamer um and you like your history then you know you're in all sorts of [649.3] Curry: troubles from sort of now on because everything's pretty much digital like anybody that's playing [655.78] Curry: xbox now is just on game pass and everything comes down digitally so the old days of [660.74] Curry: collecting cartridges and dvds and cds is gone but we still need them because there's history in them [668.26] Lee: we do it is you I remember going and buying full-size albums and you know you actually have [675.38] Lee: artwork and you also have some things inside yeah it was history what is that the largest pdb you've [683.86] Jack: ever seen yeah this is this is like you know just full-on do you remember the technology oh [692.42] Jack: the set of our 250s yeah can you tell the camera does it let you um I used the bracket so yeah [701.06] Jack: oh my word look at that you're living in the future hx 1177 you bought a vintage camera [708.82] Jack: yeah the only thing is is does anyone if you're listening to this does anyone have um I'm having [718.34] Jack: a little micro min you remember those micro min osds yeah having having a little bit of an issue [726.5] Jack: I've I've had to reflow chips onto this one I got straight in the chip out it keeps it keeps cooking [734.34] Jack: there's something wrong someone has put a pin somewhere to where that osd that they shouldn't [741.7] Lee: have um and haven't we come such a long way yeah we've got three of us have come a long way lee [751.06] Stephen: one of us is right back where he started I'm only sure emacs 2205 is that no these are [760.9] Jack: these are the these are the race star ones do you remember oh yeah these are before so this is [768.82] Stephen: post cobra but not uh red I feel this is this is too laid out well the rolling material while [777.46] Jack: they were still cool you're using two modern motors I can't get any old motors I'm trying [784.66] Curry: do you want me to break out the dt 750s we need something that's just over there [790.1] Lee: they won't fit on here let me have a look in the spare space because I did I never throw [796.26] Lee: any motors away and I need the old eses as well right I can probably sort you out with both of [803.62] Jack: one one shot 125 baby 35 quid f7 ese [811.06] Stephen: bosh 40 quid 40 amp 128 k bl heli 32 ese cheap yeah but yeah but he's lubed that frame up the [821.06] Jack: signal oh yeah baby I even played it sweet sweet music can we can we play that video do I do I [829.3] Jack: dare download it I can't do it because it's in the let's throw an out chat [836.5] Stephen: I can play it if you deeply want to I mean it's it's it'll demonetize us but it's not like we [841.78] Jack: make any money is it yeah go for it sunny sky motors and simon k yeah I got the I got the whole [849.38] Stephen: family I've got my aos 3.5 which flew precisely twice before it let out the magic smoke and took [856.26] Stephen: a nosedive was that a little oldie I know yeah it was no well no no that's quite recent [864.74] Stephen: I think I just had a short on the capacitor leads and then I um when I crashed my [872.02] Stephen: giant stupid uh talus machine rip off from banggood I bought the aos 7 as well because I [878.5] Stephen: was just curious about it's got these funny two-piece arms like if you can see that the arm [883.7] Stephen: is actually it's two bits and they fit together like a jigsaw which is what is funky [888.66] Stephen: yeah and there's a little plate to lock them together um nice [892.1] Stephen: shirt by the way oh yeah how cool is that yeah well you know give them a bit of cash [900.42] Stephen: they've got a patreon as well I don't think that hardly anyone realizes this because there's only [904.66] Stephen: about like 20 people on the beat of flight patreon I think but yeah they've got a patreon [908.9] Lee: bung on a couple of quid no I see andrew hyams is definitely trying to get in there with all [914.74] Lee: the old-school stuff he's just listing out all the stuff that we used to use back in the day [920.9] Stephen: I'm gonna have to visit the shelf now though it looks like one of them didn't really uh sort [925.06] Stephen: out their carbon though because I've literally just cut myself on one of those frames I don't [929.22] Jack: know which one it was but it's sharp out 27 megahertz I think Tony still runs on that [936.74] Jack: it's no fun if he's not here to personally abuse so my quad build for this year will be featuring [946.02] Curry: the classic kk board oh my god just to see how we did it in the olden days [952.42] Curry: what's the vertical gyro baby yeah and don't don't forget as I keep saying [959.78] Curry: these little see those little flathead screwdriver things that's how you adjust your games [964.82] Lee: games man gained old-school games no pids on that baby there's a screwdriver [971.94] Curry: OSD what's that I have to get a separate one and install it [976.02] Jack: because you can't integrate it isn't it really he has literally got tubes and he's got that [982.5] Jack: plastic screwdriver and he's got floating crown so he doesn't barbecue himself [988.02] Stephen: I'm not quite sure if I'm bleeding quite appreciably now [996.5] Stephen: I may have to go do that Lee I would not recommend cnc madness because that's like a ninja's weapon [1004.58] Jack: no you own one of those plastic adjusted pop things so that you don't fry it well they [1011.62] Jack: they got a name I can't remember what they're called plastic 11 finger no but that's they [1018.61] Lee: used to come with them didn't you some of them you'd have a little plastic you know it was high [1023.97] Lee: tech back in the day but um yeah like I said we've come a long way which is good so what have you [1031.01] Curry: what have you been flying curry anything exciting um no I just put out a video where I was flying [1038.05] Curry: a plane on uh an ELRS PWM receiver to see how that would work and that worked pretty well apart [1045.57] Curry: from my throwings a bit lacking and put it in the ground a couple of times but it was all right [1049.73] Curry: I enjoyed that video oh thank you then I flew my open HD quad and that was going quite nicely [1056.93] Curry: after we sorted out some of the issues but then I got a little bit flip flappy happy which is a [1063.17] Curry: mistake on a quad where I've literally got a great big printed piece to mount um a raspberry pi zero [1071.97] Curry: and it has a big piece of cable and I think it's like yeah I did a little roll and then I was like [1076.85] Curry: let's do a fast flip and then my you know if you're upside down and your video completely freezes and [1082.53] Curry: you're like it's the video gonna come back and by that time you're already in the ground anyway [1087.09] Curry: and I think what had happened is in that time the little bit of spare ribbon cable I had [1092.53] Curry: putting things together had come out slightly the prop had hit it this had pulled the pie forward [1097.89] Curry: smashed it into the side and bent some pins and then the next prop hit the connector on the camera [1105.01] Curry: thing and so that sort of exploded so I got it back and looked at it and fortunately the quite [1111.57] Curry: expensive camera and wi-fi adapter were okay but um I forgot to check where the GPS was and that [1118.69] Curry: wasn't there when I took everything back I don't know I don't know if you've ever done like I've [1122.93] Curry: got everything let's go and then you 200 yards away you suddenly say oh the GPS isn't here and [1128.13] Curry: you just look over this field of grass and say well it was about there ish yeah so I couldn't find [1133.41] Curry: that and um unfortunately that's broken the pi zero I plugged the pi zero in to see if it was [1138.45] Curry: okay it looks okay and um it basically it's it's now like an iron it heats up to like a thousand [1145.01] Curry: degrees it's like oh I put on plug that and no lights come on which is which is not a problem [1149.73] Curry: GPS is a cheap and you can buy a pi zero for under five pounds but that would mean there [1155.89] Curry: actually has to be any pi zeros in stock anywhere in the entire world which they're on oh god if [1161.73] Jack: anyone has got a pi zero and they send it to curry I will send you a raspberry pi three [1171.01] Stephen: take it as the opportunity to upgrade to one of those pi zero two w's or twos where they've got [1177.25] Curry: a single core I don't want to run the two on it yet because it needs um it needs a different bill [1181.89] Curry: for openhd tailspin saying that's why you need angle mode as a chicken switch I had angle mode [1186.45] Curry: I had um rescue mode as well but when you're upside down not that high up and then the video [1195.01] Curry: goes you don't you don't have enough time to consider things because you've ordered it by [1199.57] Curry: the time your brain said I need to do something there's a distant explosion [1203.97] Curry: it's coming somewhere in the way the minute should I thud yeah what somebody should make [1211.01] Lee: is like a little kind of fold out flag a little red flag and that you can take it to you when you [1216.21] Lee: when you find what's left of it stick the flag in the ground because I I do the same thing I [1221.33] Lee: always get back even though I think I've got everything even if you step five six steps away [1227.01] Lee: and you realize that one of the canopies is missing or part of the you know your run cams [1232.13] Lee: disappeared or whatever it is you turn around and you have just no idea where you were um I [1239.57] Lee: definitely think yeah we should all just have like like a flat you know like they do in those crime [1243.65] Lee: dramas where the you know where they're finding um yeah every time you find something put a little [1248.29] Curry: flag and then draw a chalk line around your quad it's like no the the screen marker stuff you know [1255.57] Stephen: the last thing I should have done is like pack up all my stuff put it in the bag and then walk to [1260.05] Stephen: where the quad is but what I always do is leave all my crap like in this array on the floor walks [1265.09] Stephen: the quad pick up the remains of the quad walk back to my bag and then go oh it's missing a bit [1269.09] Stephen: where did this land and it's like way over there and you can't remember where it is no no I have a [1274.77] Curry: very cope below that the vague hope is that field um that area there's some Roman ruins around it and [1281.81] Curry: so that there's always metal detectors going on doing their thing and and digging stuff up and [1287.57] Curry: if they find anything modern they give it back to my brother-in-law who owns the farm because they [1291.97] Curry: think it might have fallen off his tractor or something so there's a possibility we we cross [1295.97] Curry: our fingers but yeah getting I I doubt they're going to find you know a brand new pi zero which [1301.57] Curry: which works that's that's the problem I mean I need one of those to get flying again do you know [1306.53] Jack: do you know what one of my favorite things was um I don't know it was like it was some sort of like [1313.65] Jack: UK uh it had like a little evil devil in it it was like a view balls of steel I think it was gold [1322.21] Jack: and the little devil was on a beach with it like there was metal detector people [1327.33] Jack: and he buried buried a hydrojet cut out word that just said in in the sand so they're [1336.77] Jack: they're metal detecting and then they'll come across it dig it up and then they lift it up and [1343.89] Jack: it's one of my favorite things in the world [1348.85] Lee: yeah I'm sure there's lots of things in fields thanks to the radio control flyers in this [1353.65] Lee: country you know that are uh that they'll get in a thousand years time they'll be thinking [1358.77] Lee: what the heck was that what yeah what was the spit technology doing out in the middle of nowhere [1364.37] Lee: yeah these Romans were very advanced for these gps [1367.17] Curry: well what will we yeah they look back in a thousand years and and be like [1371.81] Curry: yes we think uh the the previous generation left these cameras in fields there's some sort of [1377.01] Jack: offerings to gods looking primitive tools these animals yeah numbskull I will be paying for the [1383.49] Stephen: chamfered edges uh yeah next one you've learned the thing is we've all done it we've all done it [1392.21] Lee: I mean the thing is it's horrible being cut but the worst one is where it's actually a splinter [1396.61] Lee: that cuts you and then you have to then try and pull that sucker out as well and [1400.21] Lee: hope it was clean it just it is horrible see when you catch yourself on that [1406.78] Lee: it's why those frames are nicely finished cost an extra five bucks because somebody sat there with [1411.18] Stephen: a bit memory because only three dollars I'm an idiot I was like chamfered nah the the one you [1416.62] Stephen: get from banggood though because this one's from cnc madness the seven inch the five inches from [1421.74] Stephen: banggood who chris got to produce that and they they do it a bit cheaper it's cut by eye flight [1427.1] Stephen: comes in an eye flight box and uh comes with chamfered edges and all the fittings and 3d printed [1434.38] Stephen: parts and straps and everything just like it's a pucker bnf style frame you know it's uh pretty [1442.06] Stephen: neat anyhow sorry uh talking about multi rotors enough that me uh uh richard warrick has uh given [1451.1] Jack: i don't know whether you guys i've i've seen i've seen this because uh you know we're we're [1457.02] Jack: friends of of menis old menis rc but oh yeah yeah the old i can we can play this in the background [1465.9] Stephen: but yeah it looks like they managed a nice four up with some hd zero um yeah all that running [1473.5] Stephen: first time no no real hiccups which is good i know i've had a long chat with greg about this [1480.46] Lee: it was really interesting because this this is a venue apparently was a pig because the the whole [1486.46] Lee: outside of this stadium is a hotel which is full of free wi-fi and everything else so they they [1492.38] Lee: tried to run analog for this race the analog system wouldn't work at all so then they fired up the [1499.1] Lee: shark bite hd zero stuff and it works works reasonably well but the interesting thing is [1506.06] Lee: greg ran rang me after this and said um i'm trying to get hold of a shark bite system [1513.82] Lee: and i can't find one full of the money can i borrow yours because i want to look at developing [1518.3] Lee: something you know improving it the way they had it it was just a like you probably saw if you [1522.86] Lee: haven't seen it on instagram they had like a big white board with about five or six [1527.34] Lee: shark bites stuck on it with um with the all the antennas facing forward but uh but interestingly [1533.82] Lee: shark bite was one of the things i wanted to talk a little bit about and because it's been out two [1537.98] Lee: and a half years now you know i was quite a big proponent of it when it first came out it was like [1542.46] Lee: brilliant we've got you know d giant we got something else um i just want to wonder what [1546.86] Lee: everyone's thought what was about shark bite and whether or not anything you know what what your [1551.66] Lee: impression of it is because i'm still kind of waiting for it to break through we've got [1555.34] Stephen: a shark bite model this little three inch we had pavl on the show uh last week and he was talking [1562.54] Stephen: about um the fact that they've added inav support for it now so you're now in the you're [1568.14] Stephen: now able to have the osd on your fixed wing obviously you could have just run it blind [1571.98] Stephen: and not had osd but you've got osd support it's nice the um the the hd zero cameras which i've [1579.42] Stephen: got here are cut above the others i flew someone else's setup before getting this and let him fly [1585.02] Stephen: my dgi and he had a bunch of different cameras and there is a vast difference in the different [1590.7] Stephen: cameras some of them are really quite rough like sky purple the grass is kind of weirdly [1603.26] Stephen: the hd zero cameras are a great upgrade for that system i think but it's not dgi it's not got the [1608.54] Stephen: clarity it's not got the the range but you know if you really want to do long range and you you are [1616.46] Stephen: your antenna game is good then you could go longer because you can break past that 13 kilometer [1621.82] Stephen: artificial boundary so maybe if you're doing a lot of long-range fixed wing and you're in [1626.14] Stephen: a country where that's legal then hd zero makes a lot of sense and i've seen some beautiful [1631.18] Stephen: mountain surfing starting to appear using that which looks wonderful i think it's interesting [1637.95] Lee: that we've had we're still on the same module and seeing that photo that jack's just put up [1644.19] Lee: it's still the same module that they brought out two and a bit years ago when the system was first [1648.35] Lee: released it just it just i thought by now we'd have been on version i like the dgi stuff we'd [1654.19] Lee: have been on version two you know that module the the antennas on it i don't think are particularly [1659.63] Lee: sensitive it's quite a clunky unit in my own opinion i thought it would have been you know [1664.11] Lee: getting into the fat shark might have brought out some goggles with it integrated or um you know [1669.95] Lee: i'm excited to do more stuff with hd zero with it assume you may get it back when grit's finished [1674.91] Lee: with it um because i think you're right steve i think hd zero are probably more excited about [1679.63] Lee: the system than fat sharks seem to be at the moment because i just don't hear anything for [1683.79] Stephen: fat shark have officially dropped it which is the weird politics the whole thing after launching [1688.59] Stephen: those scout goggles and owning the release of as was shark bite they've lost all interest in shark [1695.39] Stephen: bite and now they're just moving back away from it to do only goggles um and i've seen reports [1701.71] Stephen: people saying oh yeah the scout goggles are considered pre-release they were never officially [1705.79] Stephen: released you've got beta goggles we're not supporting any of the any of the uh now shark [1712.19] Stephen: bite products that now hd zero products that were shark bite they're trying to distance themselves [1716.99] Stephen: from it which is a strange maneuver but i would really hope that we would buy now i've seen [1723.71] Stephen: something in the same form factor as a rapid fire as tvs mutual and if they have to add a few pins [1732.75] Stephen: to do hdmi out then so be it you know maybe you could have a socket where you run the cable around [1738.83] Stephen: the outside of the goggles but fat shark can release a new set of goggles where they just [1743.23] Stephen: put the hdmi plug into the module bay there's plenty of space in there we're not short of space [1748.27] Stephen: to add an extra socket in there um but there's just no interest and i think it's not going to [1753.15] Stephen: be fat shark that drives it because that it's going to be people like orca it's going to be [1757.31] Stephen: people like skyzone who are actually pushing things forward and we're going to see if that [1761.95] Lee: go me too and follow them i think i think you're absolutely right i think it changed when fat shark [1768.67] Lee: sold themselves to was it red not red red cat red cat yeah um that's for me you know as somebody [1776.67] Lee: that used to work very closely with fat shark that's when it fundamentally changed and the [1782.59] Lee: whole energy changed and i think they have a very different set of priorities um because let's face [1788.19] Lee: it you know fat shark haven't brought out any new goggles for ages um you know and it just it just [1794.11] Lee: seems to be very weird and there's obviously a plan right there must be a plan because you wouldn't [1797.87] Lee: spend that much money on something like fat shark and then just well actually some people would to [1803.63] Lee: destroy the competition but you know you wouldn't expect them to just try it out but i think you're [1807.87] Lee: right steve i personally i think it's going to be you know the guys behind hd0 it's going to be [1812.99] Lee: other people who are going to run with it now um and have the benefit of that kind of open source [1818.11] Lee: collaborative effort um and it just you know it's just such a shame because i remember when [1823.79] Lee: shark by well back then it was called bike frost if you remember that we were supposed to be out [1829.07] Lee: at the same time as the dgi stuff i think dgi got a whiff of what was going on and pulled the [1834.67] Lee: trigger and it came out i was actually in florida in that august three two and a half years ago must [1840.35] Lee: be um and i had a video on it and i had an email from greg at fat shark that basically went [1848.59] Lee: don't release it don't release it i've seen the ggi system we are going back to the drawing board [1854.99] Lee: the ggi system is so much um better in terms of the visuals but i don't want to release it now i'm [1862.35] Lee: going to go we're kind of going to go back and we're going to add the secret source and i was [1865.71] Lee: like okay that's kind of annoyed me because you know i'd set the video up so it would be a big [1869.95] Lee: thing while i was on holiday um but it's like okay that's fine you know your call and then here i am [1876.99] Stephen: 184 pounds what yeah so that there was a promo where those were 50 off and that's where i'm [1884.59] Stephen: a bunch of other people snagged them and now yeah not so compelling and to what painless was saying [1890.03] Stephen: i think they they missed a trick there because if they had just put it out there there would [1894.75] Stephen: have been people on analog who didn't want ggi who would have bought into it but as it is [1900.11] Stephen: the extra time they spent cooking it i don't think really changed the product too much [1905.39] Lee: no i don't think i think for me the issue's always been about the vtx's [1909.87] Lee: they've always been quite big quite clunky uh they they were very hot you know they you [1915.95] Lee: know if we think ggi hd you know the air units run a bit warm you know try one of the shark bite [1921.15] Stephen: things because you know even at 25 milliwatts shark bite is putting out a lot of heat just [1925.79] Stephen: doing the video conversion getting the signal from the camera and getting it into the format [1929.63] Stephen: it needs to put over the air that is taking a lot of power and they really do pick up [1934.27] Stephen: a bunch of heat to the point where you worry if you leave them unattended because i'm also [1938.35] Stephen: hearing people saying you get some sparkles on them that don't necessarily go away if you let [1942.99] Lee: them get too hot so the other thing i found sorry sorry way the other thing i found very quickly [1949.47] Lee: was that the the cameras the early cameras in particular on that system emitted some harmonics [1955.95] Lee: in the rate exactly the right range to upset your gps and i was because i put it on a 9 avc cord [1961.71] Lee: because i'm a freak uh and i and kind of went back and went when i turned when i turned the camera on [1966.99] Lee: my gps won't lock and they went oh dear what and and and so there's nothing on the system that [1974.43] Lee: should be that should be you know going about the 1.2 1.5 gigahertz it shouldn't affect it all i said [1980.99] Lee: try it and they went oh yeah so so then it was kind of like how do you shield for that it'll be a [1988.11] Lee: harmonic of one of them there was it felt very much like and i don't mind some of the early stuff [1993.71] Lee: and lots of things that we get in the hobby the version one feels like a test don't let's be [1998.43] Lee: honest you know look at the peanut uh that some of the thumb camera stuff that's going on at the [2002.75] Lee: moment with gyro flow um you know but the earlier doctors you know the people who buy it we you [2009.79] Lee: know we get it in we play with it and then the version two and three comes out or it gets fixed [2013.47] Lee: in firmware i don't have you know that's the kind of trajectory that happens a lot that's what you'd [2018.99] Lee: expect right yeah but but here we are two and a half years later at this point and it would be [2023.71] Lee: expecting like you said a module with a little hgmi cable that pops down the bottom that you plug in [2028.67] Lee: that can be powered that has you know a lot very small vtxes that fit on whoops because that was [2034.27] Lee: the idea in the early days because at the moment you know the hg system from dgi you know the [2039.71] Lee: smallest unit you know the people skeletonize it and put it on whoop the larger whoops but it's [2045.47] Lee: not really designed for that they just i think they just missed a bit of a trick [2050.51] Frank: this episode was recorded in front of a live online audience downloaded and edited to make [2055.07] Frank: sense when it played audio only censored to please the itunes people hosted on the internet [2060.11] Frank: forwarded through to your podcast provider downloaded playing on your device and is now [2064.43] Frank: playing in your ears all thanks to our patreons consider joining them and you'll also get other [2069.95] Frank: online benefits find out more at patreon.com forward slash let's drone out i think that one [2076.59] Stephen: of the reasons for the limited availability if you look at the cameras in particular when the cameras [2081.23] Stephen: came out these hd0 ones which were vastly improved image quality they were coming out in such small [2087.63] Stephen: quantities they were effectively doing uh time limited release every day there would be 100 [2093.47] Stephen: cameras for sale and if you look kind of what's going on there that was karl zow the founder of [2101.15] Stephen: hd0 self-funding a production run and he only had enough cash enough capital to do however many [2109.87] Stephen: hundred or thousand cameras were in that run that's why it wasn't on general sale so i think a lot of [2115.95] Stephen: what we're seeing is one man's vision he really wants to make it happen but he doesn't have a [2121.79] Stephen: massive contract he doesn't have a massive retail presence and so what we're seeing is this drip [2127.39] Stephen: feed where you're like okay who would love this well racers would love it because it plays nicely [2133.31] Stephen: and you can use eight channels or however many channels you normally would with analog [2137.47] Stephen: on digital okay so let's push it into races let's do the 20 mil race vtx who else wants it right [2144.27] Stephen: there's some freestyle pilots who want something that's not dgi right let's let's cater to them [2148.99] Stephen: and product by product they're slowly trying to grow it but there's no massive cash injection [2154.59] Stephen: there's none of that red cap dollar which would have happened if fat shark had actually made it go [2160.51] Lee: yeah and so it it's not hopeful wasn't it steve when when it was bought by those guys and then [2166.51] Lee: that's the way it was kind of positioned that all this money was going to pour in and we were [2169.95] Lee: looking at brilliant it's gonna you know it could be accelerated through to a sophisticated product [2174.99] Lee: and it's like and andre heinz make an interesting point in the chat talking about [2179.47] Lee: that what what we need is a video equivalent of the elrs system um and whether or not hd zero or [2186.27] Lee: open hd are going to be there that the answers to it um i think wayne what's your view on that [2192.67] Lee: because you've been playing with uh is it open hd you've been playing with well yeah we i mean [2197.87] Curry: we've discussed it several times it's like open hd is an interesting prospect but it's not [2202.59] Curry: particularly user-friendly um there are various hurdles to get over in terms of how easy it is to [2209.31] Curry: set up because at the moment you're putting a raspberry pi in which doesn't it's not the [2213.79] Curry: easiest thing to fit in it can be done and you can get very good results and i think the distance [2218.43] Curry: record is something like 100 kilometers or something ridiculous like that but it's not [2224.99] Curry: it's not like dji here's your air unit here's your googles you're off and going so i was i was [2229.87] Curry: going to say what do we know about the orca system because they haven't they got like two [2234.99] Curry: digital systems they're going to launch and plus they're trying to make their googles [2238.91] Curry: friendly to all so it it works with hd zero it's got you can plug in hdmi directly and record [2245.55] Curry: from it even because that's even good for open hd it's like oh i get rid of my ground recording [2249.71] Curry: if i can just plug hdmi in and record so is is that yet another system that that might be something [2256.43] Stephen: yeah and we see a lot of these people and i think this is the red cat link as well with orca [2262.83] Stephen: they're definitely courting hop non-hobbyists the hobby market is not that big it's not 2015 [2269.71] Stephen: there's not you know we don't have pepsi cola queuing up to put advertising around drones [2275.15] Stephen: but what you do have a government contracts and a lot of these uh orca and redcat seem to be [2282.51] Stephen: caught in government contracts you know get the federal dollars because typically the contracts [2287.15] Stephen: are incredibly lucrative they're effectively open-ended you can just ratchet up the the costs you [2294.51] Stephen: don't have to try too hard there's a reason say people say it's good enough for government work [2298.83] Stephen: you just need to get the contract locked down and you can you know not really try too much after [2304.19] Stephen: that point um and i think maybe we're losing out on those markets because it's so easy if you can [2312.19] Stephen: produce a video inspection system or a video security system not necessarily defense systems [2319.79] Stephen: but there's plenty of aspects in large countries like the usa where you can sell into those federal [2326.43] Stephen: markets and you can make a decent amount of cash so long as you are the one that gets that contract [2332.67] Stephen: and without many players in the space redcat and others stand to stitch that up and make a lot of [2338.27] Stephen: money and it might be five years before that trickles down to us on the hobbyist side i think [2343.79] Lee: the dynamics of how the hobby work has changed completely i think you're absolutely right in [2348.27] Lee: that big boom where everyone and their dog jumps on the bandwagon to try and flog multi-rotor drone [2354.03] Lee: racing uh you know you know just think of all the terrible goggles that were released in those [2360.51] Lee: three or four years you know it's literally everyone in china grabbed a couple of oled displays and [2365.55] Lee: a couple of lenses and smacked you know and that ship put them in a box and charged 400 quid for [2369.55] Lee: them you know i loads of things that i got was off as i just didn't get in because they're just [2374.59] Lee: there was so bad and we're at the other end of that now where it feels like the people in the hobby [2381.15] Lee: are genuinely in the hobby because they want to be in the hobby not because they think it's a [2385.23] Lee: lucrative way to make loads of money and lots so we've seen loads of people disappear you know [2390.99] Lee: fly noceros and lots of stores and things have gone and the people who are left and the people [2395.31] Lee: who are passionate or they have moved absolutely right steve i think that's it you know into more [2401.23] Lee: lucrative areas where they can get funding from other places and we may as a hobby see the results [2407.71] Lee: of that and i think that's that i'm personally think that's how ggi managed to knock it out the [2412.83] Lee: park with the hd system even on the version one goggles because you know they've had a lot of very [2418.99] Lee: expensive high-end video systems for inspection and professional filming that they've had forever [2424.75] Lee: you know had a lot of background and experience and you know thousands of pounds for those is it [2429.47] Lee: like bridge is that one the ones they have and things like that and they have and all that [2433.87] Lee: experience was kind of trickled down into into a unit that got sold as a you know as a hobbyist [2441.31] Stephen: thing we don't benefit of that and unfortunately there's also that you know the political tensions [2446.59] Stephen: that that trump caused between the u.s and china where there was a lot of kind of [2453.15] Stephen: anti-china sentiment you know bordering on sinophobia that was cultured during that time [2458.27] Stephen: which is you know caused china to be shut out of government contracts and and might have [2463.87] Stephen: helped slow down the innovation that we saw from dgi and fpv systems um also you gotta remember um [2472.99] Jack: you know with red cat they own dgi as well so there's a little bit of a conflict of interest [2479.87] Jack: because they own fat shark and um and dgi the maybe they just i think i don't either [2489.95] Jack: wrote right they're sponsored with dgi i mean they're sponsored but yeah so yeah it seems a bit [2497.55] Curry: expensive to to buy fat shark just to sort of shut them down as it were and um trying to sell [2503.79] Curry: more dgi stuff via their store though that's that's what i thought there must be there must [2507.71] Curry: be something coming there must be some innovation but as lee said i would have expected a module or [2514.99] Curry: goggles with it in built and not having you know the big thing on the the end of your goggles by [2520.67] Curry: now but they're too much it it feels like fat sharks almost disappeared since since that sale [2526.67] Stephen: but i i don't recall them bringing anything up it's looking good but then they're asking for [2531.71] Stephen: close to 600 quid for their technology aren't they yeah it's a lot of money yeah see the thing [2537.79] Lee: the thing at the moment is it assumes you're talking that kind of money then you're into [2541.87] Stephen: into dgi goggle why would you pay that for an analog goggle i mean it's a good analog [2546.51] Stephen: goggle don't get me wrong but it's fundamentally the analog goggle you could have bought in [2550.83] Lee: 2018 really yeah i remember i did the i did a video where i put analog hg zero slash shark [2560.27] Lee: bite and the dgi system on this on this on a scale of one to ten and i think what i said was the dgi [2566.03] Lee: system is the is the in terms of the ones i've flown the best so that's ten and then you know [2572.19] Lee: the best fpv experience with the best goggles the best camera the best vtx the best module [2578.51] Lee: um it's probably only going to be about four you know even it's 460 640 480 you know it's it's [2588.11] Lee: never going to be the same and it's just um i know all my a lot of my friends who've tried [2593.47] Lee: tried it and i'm not a fan of dgi you know i've been on record of saying that i don't think there's [2597.47] Lee: a company they're very i don't like the way they operate but in terms of the in terms of the HD [2602.35] Lee: system it's kind of become the gold standard now and i just i can't believe that two and a half [2607.31] Lee: years later we haven't got a serious competitor i will say i will say if you fly under trees [2613.95] Stephen: i can fly a situation where dgi sucks i can fly three branches and hd zero will show me those [2620.59] Stephen: branches if i've got bad lighting and i've got close branches dgi is going to mangle that and [2626.83] Stephen: just give me blocks so it's not perfect sorry for interrupting you there painless no no i i think [2633.39] Lee: you're right that and that's the thing that no system is it the dgi system suits the way i fly [2638.75] Lee: because i don't do the flying through the trees and the branches stuff i like to go in the middle [2642.67] Lee: of nowhere and basically fly you know get an altitude you know 400 feet and just fly around [2647.87] Lee: and have a look and for that you know it's hard it is hard to beat um you know because even when [2653.95] Lee: i'm doing stuff in the fields and i'm flying through some of the trees at low level you're [2658.03] Lee: absolutely right with the dgi system you have that momentary pixelization stuff you get kind [2664.11] Lee: of that hitting um but you kind of hope that when you don't ever lose it completely um but it just [2671.95] Lee: yeah i just want an alternative i want an alternative i love an alternative that will fit [2676.67] Lee: lots of other goggles they don't have to buy a complete new goggle system for that the barrier [2681.71] Lee: the point of entry is a lot lower because at the moment you know even the version two goggles are [2686.91] Lee: what 500 quid the air units are 100 quid each um you know for lots of pilots 600-700 quids a [2693.07] Lee: lot of money and it but you can easily spend that on an analog system if you go in top drawer you [2698.99] Lee: know your hdo2s your rapid fire and all you know and all that stuff you can easily put a hole in [2705.47] Stephen: that same amount of money it does add up when you start adding rapid fires or the tbs fusion which [2710.51] Stephen: are kind of the gold standard yeah that's an extra 100 pound on those goggles right away [2715.87] Stephen: 100 pounds on whatever you were going to put on your face people are mentioning open hd here and [2721.55] Stephen: i think that that does feel like it's the the way that we need to go and i've been using express [2727.23] Stephen: lrs a while to have seen the kind of teething problems that systems like this have and express [2732.27] Stephen: lrs because they've got a very simple design believe it or not like there's not a lot of chips [2736.75] Stephen: there there's not a lot of software they iterated quite fast through that but it was a real pain [2742.51] Stephen: and i've been there with my st link doing flashing for that system and it was laborious and it's not [2748.11] Stephen: friendly to newcomers and and i think open hd is still back there in the it's it's a tinker toy [2756.19] Stephen: for geeks and it needs to get past that it needs to find not just hey you can buy this dev board [2762.03] Stephen: and run it it needs to get funding to build a board that's just for open hd to put it in a 30 [2767.95] Curry: by 30 form factor it could be coming i talked to the guys involved there there's a patreon which [2775.63] Curry: is separate from open hd to try and develop a board that would do this and i talked to them a [2780.67] Curry: couple of months ago to see where they were and see if i could talk to them about it at some point [2784.67] Curry: and i said wait though because i want to see i want to see if i can fly on a quad first to see [2788.83] Curry: where i am and their intention is to get it to the point where they can get somewhere between [2795.71] Curry: 40 and 60 milliseconds of latency and basically get it down to a flight controller board [2803.07] Curry: and that's the thing that's going to go on your quad and they seem to have been getting towards [2809.07] Curry: that when i last spoke to them so one of the things i want to do is get in touch with them again [2813.31] Curry: and say let's see where you got to and sort of talk through it and see where we are because that [2818.83] Curry: that would be quite nice i mean it is it is still a pain and the reason i i bang on about hd so [2825.71] Curry: often is is a because it's interesting and i do like to tinker and this is as i said in a couple [2832.19] Curry: of my videos it kind of felt like the first time i did fpv there was a real like is it gonna make [2837.55] Curry: it is it gonna just explode which is a fun thing but um but that's how that's how all things start [2844.19] Curry: they all start off a bit clunky and a bit bad but right now it's like okay well we can get hd [2850.11] Curry: hd video down and we we've already got the osd stuff going on and it talks to flight controllers [2856.03] Curry: that's quite good we just need to shrink it down not have it running in linux or or it can run in [2862.67] Curry: linux you just don't want to have to ssh you don't want to know it to start doing things yeah linux is [2867.63] Curry: great when you don't have to know it's running yeah you just want you just want to like a couple [2872.59] Curry: of clicks to set stuff up um and i the so the reason i like tinkering with it is it's something [2877.87] Curry: i see potentially and i see it could get there but to be fair it it developed from something [2884.19] Curry: else called open wi-fi broadcast which was several years back and that didn't catch up [2889.31] Curry: broadcast is was easy way for it's one of the one of the ones and with that sort of thing yeah [2894.59] Curry: and so open hd i think is getting a little bit more attention so we're hopeful but yeah as as [2900.35] Curry: caroline said and as you guys have all said it needs something it needs a small little integrated [2905.39] Curry: circuit which essentially can um encode video and send it because that's that's what's taking time [2912.43] Curry: and when you run this on a pi whatever pi zero which is already running a full operating system [2918.51] Curry: and doing umpteen tasks in the background and you say can you just uh encode this video [2924.59] Curry: and send it down the wi-fi there's there's a delay there because this isn't it's not a real [2929.55] Curry: time operating system there's other stuff going on and it hasn't got these specialized hardware [2935.31] Curry: that literally the chips i think just to say you don't want fpga because fpga red tearing takes a [2940.83] Stephen: lot of energy to do stuff real time doesn't necessarily mean faster or better real time [2946.27] Curry: real time means deterministic it means it's going to respond on a known um amount of time whereas [2952.19] Stephen: it's with real time stuff it's like you've got an input and then you need an output with this [2956.51] Stephen: you've got like a constant stream of video so and when you do real time all your drivers and [2963.07] Stephen: everything have to work with real time it's not necessarily it's not i mean it's some situations [2970.43] Stephen: it is better but it isn't necessarily a silver bullet because you can run linux with a real time [2975.23] Stephen: kernel and it just it makes everything way more complex it makes it much harder oh yes there's [2980.35] Curry: there's no doubt about it it's it's much more complicated and i'm not suggesting this should [2985.31] Curry: be the the way it should go but by stripping out things that we don't need like we don't really [2991.63] Curry: need it to run an operating system it doesn't need to be running debian like there's people [2995.87] Stephen: who want to make it work on build root and just have a much smaller simpler image and i think that [3001.87] Stephen: the flashing tools and everything are like the one of the reasons that express LRS has done so [3005.95] Stephen: well is they've got a really amazing side project which is this configurator software [3010.51] Stephen: that takes all of that complexity and you just press a button and the complexity happens and [3015.47] Stephen: you watch like thousands of lines of logs view and you're it's done uh okay i was just showing [3023.15] Stephen: thousands of lines of garbage but okay it's working fine okay move on but of course for [3029.31] Curry: many people that looks too complicated because it's like what it builds it that's that's [3032.91] Curry: complicated what why doesn't it just have this image that it puts there that's that's what they'd [3037.31] Curry: like in a sort of friendly thing so the friendlier the smaller the least thinking about OSs or [3042.67] Lee: anything we can get the better yeah i think you're right curry because the whole the whole point of [3047.55] Lee: entry um and this is the issue with it you know as a as an engineer uh or ex-engineer i suppose [3055.71] Lee: put me as it's very it's very easy to to kind of get to the point where it's all working and then [3061.23] Lee: kind of go okay we draw a line around that and that's the system but to really drive the adoption [3065.95] Lee: you've got to drive it down to almost the lowest common denominator exactly right like a board [3070.35] Lee: that's ready to go a configurator a single hex file um and then and then you know the kind of [3075.47] Lee: people that i'm helping every day on my youtube channel can kind of buy one from hobbyrc and they [3080.51] Lee: can get it and it's already got version flashed on it and they can and if they want to they can play [3084.75] Lee: and then it becomes you know then you drive a whole different level of volume because it you [3089.63] Lee: know the express going back to see right about the express lrs stuff um you know i'm playing [3095.23] Lee: around with version 2 and interestingly you know we talked about your video on uh flying a fixed [3100.03] Lee: wing with it i've got a video coming about the pwm receivers um version 2 is is a very different [3107.15] Lee: animal in the way lots of things work than version 1 um and for somebody that kind of plays with it [3113.39] Lee: all the time it's relatively straightforward but i know that half of my flying buddies it's [3118.99] Lee: as soon as you see blinds of code flashing up like you know the thing they're in the matrix [3123.47] Lee: right you know and they're all you know their minds will just explode um it just you know [3128.83] Lee: if you just kind of like like and this is where i think ggi are very good is that you know they [3132.59] Lee: have to figure out you plug the air unit in and it goes oh there's an air unit do you want to [3136.27] Lee: activate it and you go and it goes right you're good to go if that level is the kind of the level [3142.19] Lee: that you know they give you the broadest amount of customers and ultimately drive the volume for you [3147.79] Lee: but it um i i would love there to be another hd system and then that would give us uh this year [3153.39] Lee: we'd have elrs we'd have edgetex and we'd have an open hd system that would be the trinity that [3159.71] Lee: would be a whole new level for the for the hobby it's the one bit that's missing i think i think [3165.55] Stephen: we should kind of look around the average home and look at all the gadgets and gubbins we have [3169.47] Stephen: like i've got a load of zigby lights and i've got hubs that control them and i've got [3174.43] Stephen: just gadgets and i assume a bunch of them probably run linux but i've never had to find out [3179.39] Stephen: i've never had to approach anything that looked like an interface i've i've done most of it using [3184.19] Stephen: my mobile phone and and what we get to that type of level i think the dgi stuff is actually not [3189.63] Stephen: trying hard enough that it makes you plug into a windows pc and install a program there if i had [3195.71] Stephen: something that i could put on my phone and plug into my phone or i powered on and then put my [3200.75] Stephen: phone near it and it recognized it that now you're talking now that's ease of use i don't need to sit [3208.19] Stephen: down with a laptop i could be out in a field and be like oh yeah i'm just setting up this thing [3213.23] Stephen: like you would with you know your phillips hue or your ikea smart home stuff that you picked up on [3218.75] Stephen: a whim while you're buying some shelves you know and it it's just a doddle to set up and that's [3224.51] Stephen: the kind of the last boundary that we're not quite getting to you still need to be karting [3228.11] Curry: around a laptop for all this stuff and i was just gonna say shady makes um also a good point here [3234.67] Curry: about i've got mates that have never updated anything because as soon as you say flash [3239.23] Curry: something to somebody they get really nervous like i could break it and i don't want to flash it [3245.31] Lee: and i'm just going to leave it that's the problem that's if you understand what you mean and it [3249.31] Lee: doesn't mean you know get a long coat and do that in front of it but but but is it's getting [3254.11] Lee: because i i'm a big fan of the school as well wayne of if it works don't booger about with it [3259.79] Lee: um you know so so a lot of the elrs stuff that i've been playing with has been on version 1.1 [3265.55] Lee: something um and then i had to update it to version 2 and then you know as steve can probably attest to [3272.03] Lee: once you once you do one little bit you're kind of committed you know to do to do the whole thing [3277.47] Lee: and i can i absolutely get why people go you know what it's kind of it's good enough i just [3283.31] Lee: want to fly because there are people out there who are not interested in all the technology they [3287.47] Stephen: just want it to work one thing i do like about that project is the way that they've done the [3292.91] Stephen: software like properly from a versioning standpoint and if it's version one it works with everything [3298.27] Stephen: else version one whether it's 1.1 1.2 if it's version two you can flash your radio with version [3305.47] Stephen: two and you could flash another one with version 2.2 and you could flash a model with 2.1 and they're [3310.51] Stephen: all going to work with each other so long as the main number is the same that's that's proper [3315.47] Lee: compatibility and that's quite nice to see yeah it's like we did a lot of the modern projects [3320.99] Lee: that are running even like the edgy txtx guys they are using proper discipline these days and [3328.19] Lee: you know even i now have you know with the major revisions yeah like that you know raging sparrow [3335.47] Lee: what was that about does anyone know the reason why they called it raging sparrow did you not catch [3339.95] Jack: us no you didn't it was mentioned on here and yeah jokingly someone said raging sparrow [3348.67] Lee: and it's well all i can say is it's a good job jack that you're not on that development team [3354.59] Lee: because lord knows what would it get called with you i think we chastised him the software [3359.39] Stephen: police were gonna get him because he had red kite down 4.0 and red kite down for 4.1 and that i you [3366.75] Stephen: know i chivvied him like you know the software police are going to get you man because you're [3370.99] Stephen: using the same codename for two releases did someone came up with raging sparrow capitalization [3377.15] Lee: or different or you know punch or underscore or something raging sparrow jesus that is great [3382.99] Jack: he's not having a good time at the moment our hackers go on to his [3386.83] Stephen: yeah i saw a bunch of spam that was my distracted expression a while ago uh someone's did the whole [3392.83] Stephen: you know get your free nitro thing which discord seems to uh suffer from it's free from most spam [3398.83] Stephen: but every now and then it just gets smacked about some spam yeah speaking of spam and those things [3405.87] Lee: curry have you had any of those people coming on your channel and pretending to be you [3410.19] Curry: and answering comments no although i did i did see your um video about it and certainly people [3420.11] Curry: using your logo and and sort of saying oh call me here and i'll get your prize it would be quite [3425.31] Curry: nice if they answered the questions and and sort of useful bots that could answer the questions [3430.51] Lee: correctly hey but it's interesting because nerks have it loads of us have had it it's just i [3436.59] Lee: i'll mention it on here for those who are listening so there is a thing going on one [3439.71] Lee: the latest spot scam things on youtube because they're always trying to separate you from your [3444.59] Lee: money or your identity or both is people are pretending to be the channel that you're on [3449.71] Lee: and particularly on things like prize drawers are replying to you and because the icon looks the [3455.95] Lee: same as the channel that you're on it might look like it's the person that owns the channel [3460.91] Lee: it's invariably not because the name's different it's usually like a whatsapp number is the actual [3466.59] Lee: name um i i posted about this there was two very odd diametrically different sets of um [3474.51] Lee: reaction usually you get a whole spectrum but there was loads of people who were going [3477.87] Lee: god i can't believe anyone would fall for that and then the other end of the spectrum which was [3481.47] Lee: well i actually did call that person and they didn't get back to me so it did you know because [3486.11] Lee: people are very trusting and particularly on channels like ours where we try and you know [3491.07] Lee: keep the idiot element down as much as we can with the spammers and the porn links and god knows [3496.43] Lee: what else um it was just a little bit of a of a distraction a couple of weekends ago so just a [3503.07] Lee: shout out if you're if you're watching um place it in youtube and facebook and stuff and somebody [3508.27] Lee: is trying to talk to you and you think it is a content creator that you follow or you're [3512.99] Lee: commenting on but it isn't their channel name let the owner of the channel know because it's [3518.67] Lee: probably not going to be there particularly if they're asking you to send an email or send [3523.87] Stephen: details on your phone number ask them about the benefits of left hand versus right hand circular [3528.43] Lee: pearl rice antennas just to see yeah i'll ask about flashing edge gx you know let's see you know [3534.51] Curry: let's get someone out of the way i'll tell you what i have got in the last it's happened just [3539.55] Curry: before christmas there seem to be explosions of spam from check domains something.cz every time [3549.07] Curry: and it's always the same sort of scam and you you can spot it a mile away somebody will say oh [3555.15] Curry: i've watched your channel i am a representative for insert huge conglomerate here like i work for [3563.71] Curry: nike we would like you to review try and it's like bad english usually it's really crappy email [3571.39] Curry: as soon as you'd reply that they would reply what you generally get is uh an executable file coming [3578.43] Curry: over that says this is our catalog run it and then choose what you want from the catalog which [3583.55] Curry: is obviously don't run don't execute i usually reply and ask them which version of wine i should [3589.39] Curry: use um uh just just don't it's just it's just bots doing it and it's automatically reply stuff [3596.75] Curry: and it's just again just to warn anybody that that might run a small a smaller youtube channel like [3603.07] Curry: mine and suddenly gets these emails from people saying they are people just don't don't ever run [3611.47] Stephen: me up and i i've got one of them like oh can you run this and i'm like wait a minute yes i'm running [3615.95] Stephen: it it's not doing anything now like can you open registry i'm like wait a minute and i need to [3620.11] Stephen: install that hang on now like what you need to install yeah i'm just okay i've created a new [3624.11] Stephen: prefix and running registry what is it you want me to do okay um speaking of executables uh that is [3631.39] Jack: all we've got time for you've been listening to let shown out thank you very much uh massive [3639.23] Jack: shout out to all our lovely patreons and anyone who donated ie numskull
