[263.22] Jack: I've got no, I've got no screens.
[266.22] Stephen: Windows has turned the lights off.
[269.22] Stephen: Knocking down the door and kicking you in the teeth next.
[272.22] Stephen: So here's what we've got for our video viewers, all 15 of you.
[277.22] Stephen: You can see that there is a new design.
[281.22] Stephen: They've actually got the big bucks out.
[283.22] Stephen: And Fat Shark have, shock upon all sharks, actually got a new plastic mold for their goggles, which they haven't done for years.
[292.22] Curry: This is like the first time in literally forever.
[296.22] Curry: I think the original Fat Sharks were one mold, and since that time, the old Dominator shape has been the same for every single thing, including the HDA's.
[305.22] Stephen: I will freely admit to constantly giving them crap for that.
[309.22] Jack: Also, one thing I'm deeply unsatisfied by, has anyone noticed anything really disturbing in that photo?
[319.22] Stephen: Yeah, the enhanced RPSMA.
[324.22] Stephen: You also noticed these buttons over here.
[327.22] Stephen: Do they look eerily familiar to the button design of any other moldings that you might have seen?
[332.22] Stephen: What? Skyzone?
[334.22] Stephen: You wouldn't, I guess you guys wouldn't, but maybe Tony would recognize some of the...
[339.22] Tony: What's DJI?
[341.22] Stephen: Yeah, it's eerily familiar to, if you've seen DJI, as is the stupid use of RPSMA.
[350.22] Stephen: Because when DJI flog stuff, they've got to put it by all the relevant authorities.
[355.22] Stephen: And that means you must only use vendor-provided antennas.
[359.22] Stephen: And RPSMA is, of course, the means that one nullifies that argument by insisting that this is a legitimate prevention tool to stop consumers putting any old antenna on there.
[371.22] Stephen: Because everyone knows that consumers only have access to SMA antennas, and RPSMA is witchcraft and only available to vendors behind some secret NDA.
[381.22] Curry: I thought the RPSMA thing was something to do with some CE regulation, because I thought Emotion RC had to do it.
[390.22] Curry: Yeah.
[392.22] Stephen: The story goes, and it's often banded around, I'm not sure how accurate it is, but the story goes that it comes back from the days of early Wi-Fi kit when they didn't want people messing around with high-gain antennas, or otherwise blasting noise out across the neighborhood.
[408.22] Stephen: And so they forced vendors to use a socket that would prevent users from swapping their antennas, and that's where RPSMA comes from.
[417.22] Tony: Well, I heard that, Jeff.
[420.22] Jack: I so much hate RPSMA. This is an Eosheen product. I actually buy SMA connectors and will remove them. I've gotten that level of soldering. I remove them and replace them.
[441.22] Stephen: I'll go so far as to actually, when I've got the antennas that come in RPSMA, I'll actually get a pin that you have for a pin header, and I'll just tin it up and shove it in there and heat it. So it's now got a pin in the middle.
[457.22] Curry: Apparently, I'm the only one that's not a psychopath, and I will just buy an RPSMA adapter or an antenna.
[464.22] Tony: Think of the decibels, Curry!
[466.22] Tony: I'm not really that bothered. I know it gets on Jack's wings.
[471.22] Stephen: You lose a little bit of power if you go around and put couplers and stuff, but yeah, it's not the end of the world.
[477.22] Curry: Back in the olden days, it used to be everything that came from China was RPSMA, and then the MotionRC was SMA. So you got used to buying bits of each depending on how much you wanted to spend on a product.
[490.22] Tony: Typically, it's just not one standard thing, is it?
[493.22] Jack: I will offer a service where I will remove the RP from your SMA.
[502.22] Curry: It just hits you with a hammer. It's not a replacement service. It's just removal.
[506.22] Curry: So anyway, what is the rumor mill? What are they going to run?
[516.22] Stephen: The rumor mill is that there was a stealthy press conference on Monday night that disclosed a bunch of guff about this.
[522.22] Stephen: And the bunch of guff appears to be that this is, in fact, a DJI product.
[527.22] Stephen: We've had Carl from HD0 come out and say categorically, this has nothing to do with HD0.
[533.22] Stephen: DJI in the press release says it's a digital system, and the various rumblings on the Internet appear to be that, yeah, it's probably DJI, but it's coming via Cadex.
[544.22] Stephen: So it's like a Cadex white label, and FatShark's got nothing more to do with it than the logo on the side, really.
[550.22] Stephen: They're just being used as a well-known name to sell this to consumers, but they have nothing to do with the electronics in it, really.
[557.22] Curry: We shall see.
[560.47] Curry: It's kind of interesting, then, about, like, do we think DJI are going to continue to use their goggles, and how are these goggles going to be different?
[570.47] Curry: Are you still going to need to, like, register and activate them? All these extra questions then pop up, don't they?
[576.47] Stephen: Well, yeah, apparently it's basically the same as the V1 or V2. It's the same guts, and DJI are keeping the newer chipsets to go on their fancy DJI-branded drones.
[586.47] Stephen: And this is just, effectively, the DJI goggle guts in a more familiar FPV form factor, you know?
[592.47] Stephen: Smaller, as well. Well, it looks a bit...
[594.47] Stephen: Yeah, it looks to be a regular FatShark sort of size without the big chunky form factor.
[600.47] Curry: Do you think it'll still have the regular FatShark DVR in it, which will do 30 frames per second in horrible low resolution?
[607.47] Stephen: Oh, that's painful.
[610.47] Stephen: How will they manage to stuff it up? Like, that's the question, really, isn't it? What have they managed to do?
[615.47] Stephen: That'd be the FatShark ended value crap DVR.
[618.47] Stephen: That shell looks, like, nice white plastic. I wonder if that blocks light or not.
[623.47] Tony: That's the thing that has to happen. So, racers. Racers love sh**y DVRs to put up.
[630.47] Stephen: Everything looks faster, and you can barely see the image.
[633.47] Curry: Racers must be the laziest people ever for set-ups.
[636.47] Curry: Every time I tune into a race, all I can see down the bottom is, like, Cadex.
[641.47] Curry: Five volts, or something like that, because nobody bothered to set anything up on their cameras.
[646.47] Tony: I must admit, mine used to flash fox ear and not my name.
[652.47] Jack: But, like, A, it's effort when you're racing and you smash stuff up all the time, so it's probably just easier and quicker not to bother.
[662.47] Tony: There was a race in Florida that they said you have to put your name on the thing on the screen.
[670.47] Stephen: So, everyone changed their name by deep pole to fox ear, and they're off.
[674.47] Tony: No, you literally just had to do that. So, while they were talking through the race, I think it was broadcast live.
[683.47] Tony: They could tell who it was and all that. So, yeah.
[687.47] Stephen: What are people's thoughts? Now, this is pre-branded with a name that everyone knows and trusts.
[693.47] Stephen: Does that make you think any different about it?
[696.47] Stephen: They look nice.
[698.47] Stephen: They look nice, because they're smaller.
[700.47] Curry: Well, I guess for the people that didn't like the big goggles, I mean, I've never tried the normal DJI goggles.
[706.47] Curry: I've no idea what these look like. Does it take away some of the wow factor?
[709.47] Curry: Because some of that big wow factor, correct me if I'm wrong, I'm going from here, say, here, was about DJI's effectively box goggles.
[716.47] Curry: So, they've got the big screens there, and you need to move around with your eyes.
[720.47] Curry: Whereas, fat sharks are going to bring, perhaps, the field of view down a bit, and is it going to look as impressive if it's smaller?
[729.47] Stephen: Yeah, definitely safer. My Skyzone, I've got the Skyo 4s and the DJI, and the Skyo 4s are meant to have a big FOV, but they're nothing compared to the DJI.
[738.47] Stephen: DJI is like going back to those big, I've got a quantum cyclops, and it's basically that. It's just a big old box goggle.
[745.47] Tony: Yeah, they made me feel really sick when I first had them, but after probably five flights, I was used to it.
[752.47] Tony: But you literally do have to move your eyes to look, you have to look down at your voltage and look back up where you're flying.
[760.47] Curry: You're not doing the driving tests. You can show, look, I'm checking my voltage every time.
[766.47] Stephen: And there's some DJI OSD elements you can't move, like the battery of the goggles themselves is fixed down in the bottom right-hand corner.
[774.47] Stephen: And so I always end up like, moderating my battery and things stop beeping at me, even though it's, you know, I've got hours of battery, just because I never looked down that corner.
[784.47] Tony: Are they definitely going to be HD then at that time?
[788.47] Stephen: They're saying 1080p of all things, would you believe it? That's the first time you've seen 1080p in something that's not a box goggle.
[796.47] Tony: Well, that's going to be nice to look at then.
[799.47] Stephen: I thought DJI only broadcasts in 720, doesn't it?
[802.47] Stephen: You are right. It's actually something like 800p, I think that's the top end.
[808.47] Stephen: But yeah, I think they went up to 800p on the second generation.
[816.47] Stephen: I'm sure there's people who know the exact number, but there's a slight bump.
[820.47] Tony: Not a lot.
[821.47] Stephen: The video stream, yes, nominally.
[824.47] Tony: I mean, we call HD 720, but it's not really that good, is it?
[828.47] Tony: You're seeing me in HD, which is only 720. It's not brilliant.
[833.47] Stephen: I do wonder if it is 1080p, are they going to launch their own transmitters as well?
[839.47] Stephen: And if so, what does that look like?
[841.47] Stephen: And the other question is, does this arrive with the actual OSD, the full beta flight OSD, the full rendered and controlled by your flight controller OSD,
[852.47] Stephen: rather than, nah, we don't like those elements, we won't let you see them, which is what you can't get with DJI.
[859.47] Curry: Well, it strikes me that if you were trying to put together some goggles and you wanted like OLED or LED screens,
[866.47] Curry: then probably 1080p ones are easier to get hold of than anything else right now,
[870.47] Curry: because that's kind of like the minimum, isn't it, these days?
[873.47] Curry: Perhaps it's just that sort of thing.
[874.47] Curry: The facto standard.
[877.47] Stephen: It means, I suppose, you could also have some kind of chrome and guff around the image, the image in the middle,
[882.47] Stephen: and then a little bit scaling if you wanted it to.
[886.47] Stephen: You wouldn't have to go like full panel, like you're saying, disorientatingly wide.
[891.47] Stephen: You could like put the image down to native resolution and then upscale a little bit, perhaps.
[897.47] Curry: So have DJI actually sort of properly allowed a proper OSD to come through?
[903.47] Curry: Because I thought this is all like, they read the MSP thing and they decide what's going to overlay the goggles,
[909.47] Curry: and it's only been, hasn't it only been the hacky stuff that's got like a full?
[913.47] Curry: Yeah, so.
[914.47] Stephen: Locatics have promised to do it about two years ago.
[920.47] Stephen: And then they didn't.
[921.47] Stephen: It was around about the same time as they said they were going to block everyone else's cameras.
[926.47] Stephen: And people went, that's ridiculous.
[928.47] Stephen: What on earth are you talking about?
[929.47] Stephen: Why are you blocking other?
[931.47] Stephen: Because we had an E-Sheen camera and then the Cadex cameras.
[937.47] Stephen: And Cadex were not happy with E-Sheen.
[940.47] Stephen: I thought it was RunCam.
[942.47] Stephen: It was an E-Sheen one that came out.
[944.47] Stephen: It was really quite rubbish, but it was cheap.
[946.47] Stephen: And they threatened to block it.
[949.47] Stephen: Yeah, well, the E-Sheen one came first and then there was a RunCam.
[952.47] Stephen: Then there was a follow-up from RunCam.
[955.47] Stephen: And Cadex were not happy that they had this special partnership
[959.47] Stephen: and someone else had figured out how the special interface worked for the camera,
[963.47] Stephen: and they were cloning it effectively.
[965.47] Curry: I did think that was RunCam as well, actually.
[967.47] Curry: I thought the RunCams came out and they got taken off the market.
[971.47] Stephen: Well, I know there was an E-Sheen one because I've got an E-Sheen one as well,
[977.47] Stephen: which came out before the RunCam ones,
[979.47] Stephen: but maybe the beef was perhaps with RunCam, I can't remember.
[983.47] Tony: If they are 1080, that close to your face,
[989.47] Tony: it's going to be a really good picture.
[991.47] Tony: 720 is really good when it's that quick.
[994.47] Tony: You only upscale stuff when it's further away, don't you?
[998.47] Tony: You can have 8K TV, there's no point unless it's 80 inches
[1004.47] Tony: and you're standing right back there.
[1007.47] Tony: I suppose 720, right close to your eyeball pulls,
[1012.47] Tony: it's going to look nice.
[1015.47] Curry: 1080 is going to look lovely.
[1018.47] Curry: Goggles work in a weird way, though.
[1020.47] Curry: They act like the image is projected like six foot in front of you
[1023.47] Curry: because otherwise, me being short-sighted,
[1026.47] Curry: she'd have brilliant vision on the goggles.
[1028.47] Curry: But without my diopters, I can't see a goddamn thing.
[1031.47] Curry: So it's kind of like they're further away from you.
[1034.47] Curry: There's a distance between 1080p and 4K.
[1040.47] Curry: It's like you've got to be a certain distance
[1042.47] Curry: before it actually makes something if you're so far away.
[1045.47] Curry: It looks the same.
[1047.47] Stephen: You can for sure see individual pixels on the TGI goggles.
[1051.47] Stephen: You can.
[1052.47] Stephen: You can see the jaggies on the fonts and stuff.
[1055.47] Stephen: That might go away.
[1056.47] Curry: There's jaggies, we need to get rid of those.
[1059.47] Stephen: There's numerous things that are not great about it.
[1062.47] Stephen: It hasn't really moved forward in a few years.
[1065.47] Stephen: That OSD promise was just thrown out when consumers were annoyed
[1071.47] Stephen: that Cadex was throwing its weight around and Cadex,
[1074.47] Stephen: oh, we'll give you the customized OSD.
[1076.47] Stephen: And then everyone forgot that they were about to ban other people's cameras
[1080.47] Stephen: and then they never followed up on it.
[1083.47] Jack: Yeah, I just can't stand the whole not a proper OSD
[1089.47] Jack: and no room to die off this as well.
[1095.47] Stephen: And I spend all my time hunting through the fields
[1097.47] Stephen: to see how beta flight renders all the text fields
[1099.47] Stephen: and being like, oh, can I use this one to chuck some extra info in?
[1104.47] Stephen: Most recently, I'm looking at the disarmed field
[1107.47] Stephen: and the RTC clock and thinking, oh, can I repurpose those
[1110.47] Stephen: to put some other OSD?
[1111.47] Stephen: It's kind of a pain.
[1113.47] Stephen: It's a bit, it's a noise.
[1115.47] Jack: It's so bullshit.
[1116.47] Jack: It is, yeah.
[1118.47] Jack: Ryan asks, I wonder when we stop chasing the next thing,
[1121.47] Jack: like 8K video for whatever.
[1123.47] Jack: I love watching the analog raw DVR clips.
[1126.47] Jack: Gives me major files, but equally commercial
[1129.47] Jack: slash Cine, obviously DGI smashes it.

[1135.47] Curry: That's a bit like what Tony was saying about 720p as HD
[1140.47] Curry: because back in the day when we moved over from the old CRTVs
[1145.47] Curry: to like HD TVs, it says, oh, it needs to be HD ready.

[1150.47] Curry: And then they said, oh, it needs to be full HD
[1152.47] Curry: because that's when they had 1080p.
[1154.47] Curry: And then it's like, oh, no, we need a new name,
[1156.47] Curry: what we're going to call it.
[1157.47] Curry: It's like, let's call it 4K HD or Ultra HD.
[1161.47] Curry: So the next thing is going to be,
[1163.47] Curry: it's going to sound like a Willy Wonka chocolate bar.
[1165.47] Curry: It's like absolutely smashing super great HD or something like that.

[1226.47] Jack: I mean, HD 3s, HD 2s, HD 1s.

[2732.86] Jack: I went here, you went out.
[2734.86] Curry: Bloody hell, I haven't done that for about two weeks.
[2738.86] Curry: I found out I was doing it for a video
[2741.86] Curry: and I filmed the first part of the video,
[2743.86] Curry: Ready to Fly, six weeks ago.
[2745.86] Curry: That's how long it's been
[2747.86] Curry: because I was sort of ill for a while
[2750.86] Curry: and then the weather wasn't good
[2751.86] Curry: and then I went away and the weather wasn't good again
[2754.86] Curry: and it was okay this morning.
[2756.86] Curry: It was quite nice.
[2757.86] Curry: And last time I was in the field, it was all wet and muddy
[2761.86] Curry: and this time the grass was up to here.
[2763.86] Curry: I had to make my own crop circle just to sit in it.
[2766.86] Curry: And then landing's interesting
[2768.86] Curry: because I'm sat down on the floor and I was like,
[2770.86] Curry: I don't know where I am because I was under the grass
[2772.86] Curry: to sort of do little roots to try and find myself.
[2777.86] Curry: But I was out trying to test free receivers at once
[2780.86] Curry: but not quite at once, one after the other.
[2783.86] Curry: I had them all installed in a quad
[2785.86] Curry: and I wanted to see the difference between
[2787.86] Curry: Express LRS with your regular T antenna
[2790.86] Curry: which is like your good reception
[2793.86] Curry: and then the ceramic tower antenna
[2796.86] Curry: and then the new, do you remember the beta FPV flat antenna
[2800.86] Curry: which was very bad.
[2802.86] Curry: They redesigned it.
[2804.86] Curry: I tested that.
[2805.86] Curry: And then I had it so I could reconfigure the receivers.
[2809.86] Curry: So first they were sort of in the guts of the quad
[2812.86] Curry: and then I put them out on the arm
[2814.86] Curry: and I kept doing tests with them to see what would happen.
[2817.86] Curry: And I had two fail safes during this testing
[2819.86] Curry: of a quad that had no like rescue mode or anything
[2824.86] Curry: and over some very, very long crops.
[2828.86] Curry: But aside from saying RX loss on the screen,
[2832.86] Curry: the DBM value didn't actually drop all the way down.
[2835.86] Curry: So the link quality went horrific
[2838.86] Curry: and instead I had no signal
[2840.86] Curry: but I was able to turn around and still come back again.
[2842.86] Curry: Interesting.
[2843.86] Curry: It was an interesting test.
[2845.86] Jack: I mean, so will Express LRS receivers?
[2849.86] Curry: All Express LRS, yeah.
[2851.86] Stephen: I've noticed about that.
[2853.86] Stephen: It says the link quality is stupid low
[2855.86] Stephen: but it doesn't like fail safe and drop the link.
[2858.86] Stephen: It just gets really juddery
[2860.86] Stephen: where you're clearly like missing stick inputs.
[2862.86] Curry: It tells you it's fail safe.
[2864.86] Curry: In the beta flight OSD it just says RX loss.
[2868.86] Curry: But my, cause I saw it cause the link quality,
[2870.86] Curry: you know, normally with Express LRS it's like a hundred
[2874.86] Curry: and then like you'll turn around
[2876.86] Curry: and it'll say, oh, I've just dipped like 60
[2878.86] Curry: and come back again.
[2879.86] Curry: But this was like heading down
[2881.86] Curry: and it was starting to get flickery and 80
[2884.86] Curry: and as soon as it gets 80 it starts pinging down to 60.
[2887.86] Curry: So I was going along and it's about between 400
[2890.86] Curry: and 500 meters to the end of this field,
[2892.86] Curry: which I decided was a reasonable test
[2895.86] Curry: using this piddly little receiver inside at 500 Hertz.
[2899.86] Curry: Cause I thought if you can do that, that's,
[2901.86] Curry: that's a decent race or that's good,
[2904.86] Curry: good range for like a whoop or something.
[2906.86] Curry: Cause really you wouldn't want to put these in a five inch.
[2909.86] Curry: But I went out and when I did, started doing the turn,
[2913.86] Curry: the link quality was like 60 and I turned around
[2916.86] Curry: and it went to zero completely.
[2918.86] Curry: But the DBM value only went to like minus 95.
[2923.86] Curry: I think it stopped at like minus a hundred,
[2925.86] Curry: which was still within the realms of you have a signal here.
[2929.86] Curry: And so I didn't get any sort of patchy signal.
[2932.86] Curry: I was able to keep flying back.
[2934.86] Curry: It was quite terrifying at the time.
[2936.86] Curry: Cause I was like, oh no, that's a really long walk
[2939.86] Curry: in a really big field, but it came back.
[2942.86] Curry: So it's only the benefit of going back and looking at the DVR.
[2945.86] Curry: You can actually like see the DBM.
[2947.86] Curry: I wasn't a fan of the DBM type of RSSI
[2950.86] Curry: and people kept being annoyed with me for not showing it.
[2953.86] Curry: But since I've put it in there
[2955.86] Curry: and sort of realizing what's when the signal drops,
[2960.86] Curry: I can at least do a fair comparison between them.
[2962.86] Curry: Cause you can see we go to the same thing
[2964.86] Curry: and you can see the DBM value on each of the receivers
[2967.86] Curry: and you can see this one's easy.
[2969.86] Curry: This one's not as good.
[2970.86] Curry: And this one is struggling quite easy from that,
[2972.86] Curry: even though the link quality could be the same.
[2976.86] Curry: So that was cool.
[2978.86] Curry: I've got a new platform for my open HD quad, finally.
