[0.0] Jack: Hello and you're listening to Let's Drone Out and special thank you to our lovely patrons that helped donate
[7.48] Jack: so that we could pay the editor to remove the swear words and silly things we say
[12.56] Jack: massive thank you to
[14.56] Jack: Carlos Campos
[16.56] Frank: Art Faulkner
[17.76] Frank: Sam Dahmer
[19.76] Ralph: On with the show
[51.76] Jack: Hello and you're listening to Let's Drone Out
[56.52] Jack: Thank you for coming in and tuning in. We are live every Thursday on the internet on YouTube
[63.52] Jack: .com forward slash Let's Drone Out
[66.88] Jack: We are joined by everyone's favorite kuriken
[72.32] Jack: Sonic 2 is coming out soon starring Dr. Robotnik Steven
[79.52] Jack: My darling wife Tony
[82.08] Jack: Bonjour
[83.56] Jack: and
[84.96] Jack: We have with us tonight our special guests. We've got the Dutch drone gods
[92.84] Jack: They thought about maybe giving themselves a sort of less macho name, but you know
[99.04] Jack: And then we found out their nickname. So we've got Shaggy
[103.24] Jack: yes, here we are also known as Ralph and
[107.36] Jack: his Scooby Vince
[110.08] Jack: What's up?
[112.24] Jack: And if you don't know who these people are
[115.2] Jack: you clearly got your head up your butt because
[120.72] Jack: These guys are maybe not Vince Vince. Is it true that Thomas covered for the
[127.2] Jack: the downhill Red Bull chasing off
[131.44] Vince: Well
[132.6] Vince: Thomas is also part of the crew and he went with Shaggy instead of me, but that's that's fine. I couldn't that week so
[140.8] Vince: Was he cheating on you?
[143.4] Ralph: What yeah, I was cheating with another pilot
[151.6] Ralph: No, actually Thomas is as part of our crew basically since beginning as basically the third pilot he's not full-time
[158.12] Ralph: He's part-time, but so he's definitely one of the gods for sure
[164.16] Jack: Is it North Duke is there a couple of you if you each got your own ability
[170.0] Ralph: Our own superpower
[171.84] Ralph: Yeah
[173.52] Vince: No
[174.88] Vince: We go we all can fly good. That's basically yeah
[178.8] Stephen: So when you get to the course and you've got this amazing like once in a lifetime flight you're gonna do
[184.12] Stephen: do you flip a coin or
[186.6] Stephen: Rock paper scissor. What do you do?
[189.2] Ralph: Yeah, it's also it's hard to tell beforehand which one is gonna be the life-changing run
[195.32] Ralph: So basically when it comes in we just see who's available who's got time who's got other cool stuff already planned and then we
[204.04] Ralph: It could be a coin toss, but usually we we figure it out
[208.76] Vince: It's also who really wants to do it like sometimes you'll have these bike things which Shaggy also does mountain biking
[216.68] Vince: And he's like I want to do the bike things while I go for it, you know, so
[220.84] Vince: It's also like just talk about it and see who wants to do what and just yeah exactly
[226.44] Ralph: Vince love surfing. So there's a surfing gig coming up maybe so then then Vince will get that for sure
[233.0] Vince: Yeah, so
[234.92] Vince: But we've got so much cool stuff going on and coming in that it's like easy to just say oh you do that one
[240.82] Vince: I'll do this one and sometimes it's just even easy to say no. I won't do anything. I'm just too much
[248.12] Stephen: Yeah, I mean you started off by saying no, we don't have superpowers
[251.52] Stephen: Oh, we just you know, see what happens and you're like, no, he's he's a bike
[254.22] Stephen: He does all the bike stuff and I'm the surf guy the surf stuff. We've got another guy. He does supermarket openings and
[261.96] Tony: We do that as well, no problem
[266.28] Tony: So what trying did you fly doing this Red Bull gig
[270.28] Ralph: This was our like sub 250 setup. It's our own design
[277.84] Ralph: The god mode it's like a naked hero 10
[282.12] Ralph: Little cinema with like open duck design very similar to the QAV see
[287.68] Ralph: It just a bit more. Yeah customized for our needs a bit more sleek, but basically flies very similar
[296.32] Ralph: So, yeah, that was I couldn't I brought some bigger drones to do that
[301.04] Ralph: As well, but it's such a tight course and it's downhill
[304.64] Ralph: So I could manage it way better with this small little something enough speed. That's impressive
[310.92] Ralph: Yeah, yeah, they're actually pretty pretty fast. I mean because you don't have any closed ducts
[316.0] Ralph: It's like an open still an open prop design. You can get 60 70 kilometers an hour pretty easily
[323.08] Ralph: And this bikers was going downhill 70 so it's yeah if I throttle up a little bit and let it glide down
[328.32] Ralph: I could keep up. Hmm
[331.08] Stephen: So were you running like a negative camera angle to do the downhill?
[334.6] Ralph: No, it was pretty much on zero
[337.36] Ralph: The problem was that there were very steep sections where he was going very slow
[342.24] Ralph: So I had to really break I could have used like minus 15 for that part and then for the full speed
[350.16] Ralph: Open road, it would have been better to have like plus 15
[353.68] Ralph: So I ended up having like zero camp till just so I had pretty decent framing on all of those sections
[360.4] Ralph: And it's downhill anyway, so you don't need any up tilt
[363.64] Ralph: To go fast. So yeah, that ended up working pretty well
[367.96] Tony: Yeah, it's very hard to judge
[370.16] Tony: Mountain biking when especially when they're slowing down and
[373.76] Tony: Then they speed up and you've got to get get on it straight away. Yeah
[378.92] Tony: Normal cine cine work would have been absolutely horrible. I reckon to follow that
[384.44] Ralph: Yeah, anything with closed like actual ducts is really horrible for for chasing you can do slow indoor cinematic stuff
[391.68] Ralph: But as soon as you hit speed, it's it's a very exposed hillside as well
[395.92] Ralph: That could have been wind would have been it was super windy, especially towards the end
[401.28] Ralph: When we did the shot during the day got windier and windier
[404.48] Ralph: Actually barely could fly this thing up because you fly it we're flying it from down up for the starting position
[411.12] Ralph: And it was almost you know blowing back out to sea
[414.44] Ralph: But then when you get low into those streets
[416.76] Ralph: It kind of works because you're kind of sheltered from the most gusts
[421.72] Ralph: we're still making it a bit hard, but
[424.92] Ralph: Yeah, as long as you're like down between the buildings and between the trees and then the wind is fine
[432.0] Ralph: Very impressive. How long was how long was the run? I
[436.6] Ralph: Think the full take is like two and a half minutes
[440.24] Ralph: That's a long way. That's a long way
[442.28] Ralph: It's not we do more or a longer one takes sometimes but not as actually packed as this for like every
[448.18] Ralph: There's like three difficult moves to do over those
[452.86] Ralph: Yeah, definitely most complex one
[455.78] Tony: Well, how did you get to fly so far? Did you use any kind of repeaters or anything like that?
[463.02] Ralph: I mean, yeah, I do as we kind of
[466.42] Ralph: Show in the video. It's explained a little bit
[469.3] Ralph: At least a longer video on the full Red Bull channel it goes into depth on how we did the shot and how we got
[474.66] Ralph: the signal to work
[476.5] Ralph: Basically crossfire. We just blast it on two watts like with the directional turner. Yes
[482.86] Ralph: Yes, I find because crossfire is magic
[487.66] Ralph: But the video video was a problem
[489.78] Ralph: So we had to do like we have a Mavic on the top with like an analog video repeater system
[496.1] Ralph: That's relaying it back to us. So
[499.1] Ralph: The dirt on the top always have as line of sight to the drone this bit this bit looks sketchy when you go through the house
[505.46] Ralph: Yeah
[506.9] Ralph: That was the most difficult part because it turned out that and there was a cameraman there and it turned on a 5.8
[514.46] Ralph: Gigahertz transmitter
[517.1] Ralph: Right when I went into the house like the screen turns black completely for like two seconds and every time on the same spot
[524.26] Ralph: So I kind of knew it was happening
[526.78] Ralph: And we only realized afterwards that we were you know that someone turned on a transmitter
[533.98] Ralph: So it was too late to like call and tell someone to turn off
[537.86] Tony: So I think watching this is this something good. I'll bet of you
[543.42] Tony: How about you were nervous for and it weren't you know, did you how many runs did how many takes did you have?
[549.3] Ralph: The problem was that they only built the full course on the day and they only closed the course when they started practice
[556.06] Ralph: Well, I did a few little sections beforehand, but then on the day itself. I did only like
[562.28] Ralph: three full runs
[564.68] Ralph: With the whole drone so I got I got to practice the section. We walked track
[568.56] Ralph: So I knew exactly what they're gonna do
[570.32] Ralph: But I had a very short period of time to put it all together and estimate just read on every part
[575.8] Tony: Yeah, just this I mean it. I mean you've got something to follow. So you've got that always in shot
[582.28] Tony: So yeah, that's a bad
[584.04] Tony: But that you've got to remember some bits like lines there. You've got to keep low there
[589.8] Tony: You know, you gotta go through that
[592.0] Tony: It's like racing isn't it remembering a track, but this is like two and a half minutes tracks. Yeah
[600.32] Curry: Looks sorry
[601.76] Curry: I'll say all of this looks pretty tricky in terms when you're down low and you can just see buildings either end
[607.68] Curry: Yeah, I'm just thinking RF wise. That's that's got to be nailed the problem. That was cool. Yeah land on the hand
[613.2] Ralph: That was this is this is why we had the maverick on the top to it received the video
[618.48] Ralph: And then the maverick is relaying it back to me
[621.24] Ralph: I always have line of sight to the maverick and the maverick has line of sight to the drone from top always
[626.8] Ralph: So that's how we got the signal to work in between all those buildings and so you fly an analog. I'll take it
[632.92] Ralph: Yeah, exactly flying analog. So all the comments on YouTube were like why didn't you fly digital? Well, you know
[640.48] Stephen: Yeah, I was one of those guys. I was wondering if that was helped. I would have just crapped out on you halfway down
[646.12] Ralph: Yeah, cuz there's no way to build a repeater system for DJI because it's like a closed source system and lock you can tinker
[652.12] Ralph: whatever you want
[653.64] Ralph: That's how we were able to make the repeater on a direct signal from our rooftop. It wouldn't have been possible with any kind of
[660.2] Stephen: System how many kilometers was the bottom from your position?
[666.24] Ralph: From our standing position where
[669.24] Ralph: I think we were standing like a few hundred meters from the bottom but all more than a kilometer from the top
[675.0] Ralph: So I was pretty far down the bottom a little bit down. So you're actually at the bottom
[678.44] Stephen: I thought you're at the top of the course to get the best view
[681.52] Stephen: But you're actually at the bottom
[683.04] Ralph: Closer to the bottom and the side a little bit to the side of the hill and then on top of a house
[687.64] Ralph: So basically we had line of sight to most of the track at least roughly and then it's just the buildings in between
[694.68] Ralph: That we needed to have a repeater for
[698.4] Stephen: So, yeah, did you did you get given that location?
[701.2] Stephen: Or do you spend the morning like running around with the ladder asking people if you can get on the roof?
[705.56] Ralph: Kind of we started doing that during the week. It's a funny story because we
[711.64] Ralph: We thought of all these positions based on Google Maps like okay
[714.84] Ralph: Where do we have the best range where we have most time time?
[718.04] Ralph: We picked like three buildings four buildings and we started or the people from Red Bull the local guys that they knew
[725.12] Ralph: They started asking if we could get up there and then even we arrived there and we checked into our hotel
[731.2] Ralph: We went to the restaurant next doors on like a roof and we were looking at the course
[735.88] Ralph: Like oh, where is it runner? Oh, yeah, it's from there to there
[738.52] Ralph: And then suddenly we realized wait the place we're standing now is the best position of all of the options
[746.4] Ralph: so just by accident by
[749.0] Ralph: The hotel that they booked for us just that was available happened to be best location and the rooftop was empty and available
[757.84] Ralph: Well to get the keys because I'm getting to bring you sandwiches up easy
[765.36] Ralph: Actually, my hotel room is right below where we're sitting
[770.4] Curry: So a couple of questions about the repeater because I presume what you're doing is your
[775.32] Curry: You're broadcasting from your quad that's flying on one frequency up to the Mavic and then that's repeating on a different frequency
[782.6] Curry: So you're not getting two signals at once
[784.16] Curry: but we also got a problem from audio Gek who said how bad was the latency when you use the repeater because
[790.12] Curry: Presumably you've got a bit of latency because you know from one thing and then bouncing to another did is there anything you noticed
[796.12] Ralph: Then yeah, we we tried that during testing as well how the latency was, but it's not noticeable at all
[801.76] Ralph: It's still less latency than DJI direct signal for example
[806.34] Ralph: So because analog is such a fast protocol. It's just yeah
[810.34] Ralph: It's a few milliseconds plus a few milliseconds for both ways and then yeah, it's still like six minutes
[820.66] Tony: So the Mavic was just sitting midway
[825.3] Tony: No, the Mavic was actually following us so you programmed it to fly slowly or there was a miles
[833.5] Ralph: Pilots from the Red Bull media team got media
[837.46] Ralph: He was flying the Mavic himself
[839.94] Ralph: He was basically starting right on the top of the starting
[844.78] Ralph: Facing the hill and flying backwards with his camera like pointed down like 45 degrees or something
[851.42] Ralph: So he was having the rider in his view all the time and just following the rider all the way down
[856.62] Ralph: of course, so he was right on top of my drone the whole way and
[861.02] Ralph: Then yeah, our base station had some some just patch antennas aimed in that area where he was flying
[869.22] Ralph: So, yeah, he was constantly controlling
[872.66] Ralph: Just steering the drone right on top
[875.22] Stephen: He's just a fixed antenna or do you like put a patch next to the camera and he moves the camera around or what?
[881.5] Ralph: We put a patch aimed backwards on the Mavic from the Mavic pointing backwards because it was flying backwards
[889.46] Ralph: Over the track and we were on the downside. So then it was aiming to us
[894.22] Stephen: But we had the Mavic side receiving from the receiving from the actual point receiving
[899.14] Ralph: Yeah, there's a one only but one patch basically aimed down exactly the same like 45 degree angle
[906.02] Ralph: Just so it has it pointed to the ground very neat
[909.74] Stephen: I'm worried that Vince might be feeling a bit left out here because he wasn't on
[913.48] Vince: I'm enjoying the story. I mean I got a little sleep deprivation from small
[922.08] Jack: So this is an F1 car in inside a trailer
[926.56] Vince: Yeah, it was
[928.6] Vince: And this was for live TV. This was a one of our most famous
[932.72] Vince: Shots in the Netherlands. We got a lot of attention because of this because it was a live shot on TV for five minutes
[941.64] Stephen: Deadstick deadstick
[943.64] Vince: Yeah, this was for Horizon hobby in Germany
[948.2] Stephen: What was the bicycles with umbrellas? That was a curious one in the middle
[952.48] Vince: no, this was for a
[955.2] Vince: Lottery thing called Conan Toto in the Netherlands or something. Yeah, and they're supposed to represent the different countries on scooters
[963.8] Curry: After them brothers, oh, yeah
[966.52] Jack: If you if you're listening to this podcast just audio and you want to see this so this is the Dutch drone gods
[975.32] Jack: What is it called the real
[977.96] Jack: Showrail
[979.16] Stephen: 2021
[980.2] Vince: Yeah, there's everything in there. Yeah some older shots. We've got a lot of new cool shots, but these are also good
[986.76] Vince: That's incredible. This is Ralph
[989.36] Ralph: Basically, it's 50 50 most of the time like some shots are mine. Some shots are Vince's me
[994.64] Ralph: It's just a mix of
[998.08] Vince: We have so much work and so much cool without playing DJ
[1002.72] Stephen: That that tracking shot they just showed a theme park one of those rides that shoots you up in the air and you're somehow managing
[1009.28] Stephen: To track it. That's got to be
[1011.28] Stephen: Really difficult you have to practice a lot to get the speed, right?
[1014.84] Vince: You're just gonna punch out. You do it a few times and then you then it's fine. They get yeah
[1020.96] Vince: This was mystery land. This is one of the biggest
[1023.08] Vince: the
[1024.52] Vince: Festivals in the Netherlands and because of covid they couldn't do the festival, right?
[1028.84] Vince: So they were finding creative ways to make like live streams and we were being a DJ on a balloon
[1034.6] Vince: Yes, they put a DJ in a balloon and they have to film it and this year we're doing so many festivals. It's crazy
[1042.44] Jack: Well, and then there was someone dancing erratically in what I can only describe
[1047.68] Ralph: as a bathrobe, I think this was a commercial for like
[1052.4] Ralph: The European Song Festival last year in Rotterdam. So that's all the typical Eurovision song facility. Yeah
[1061.32] Ralph: Dancers, oh
[1063.08] Jack: Wow, let's do this hell whips. They just look physically impossible. Who's the lady on the beach?
[1070.64] Ralph: It's a
[1072.04] Ralph: one of the girls from a music video from it's called Randy one of the
[1078.08] Ralph: Most popular art style DJs and it was for one of his video clips
[1084.0] Jack: Volleyball rock climbing
[1087.6] Jack: Skating in a shopping mall
[1090.36] Stephen: That's a suit look like some kind of speed cheese collecting event. Yeah
[1096.32] Jack: market sweep
[1098.08] Ralph: Yeah, but on rollerblades. Yeah, it's such a weird mix of footage because it's just snippets
[1104.2] Vince: That look the coolest in a row basically. Yeah, we've got like so much more footage now than this
[1110.32] Jack: Yeah, how did the try not full out the Scott?
[1113.56] Jack: You know I fall out from the lady diving because cameras don't go thing
[1118.28] Ralph: Yeah, we usually don't normal code all of our electronics
[1121.36] Ralph: So if we get splashes during the shots, then they don't just fall out of the sky
[1125.64] Ralph: They're not fully waterproof, but at least mainly splash proof. Yeah. Yeah
[1131.24] Stephen: So that's regular conformal coating on everything then yeah, exactly
[1136.12] Curry: So I suppose a big question and one we'd like to ask all guesses
[1140.68] Curry: When did you start flying and then how did it transition into doing this sort of work which looks absolutely awesome fun?
[1148.52] Curry: Yeah
[1150.0] Ralph: Yeah, we both started
[1152.52] Ralph: Just with drone racing competitions just before just as a hobby next to our jobs in like
[1159.32] Ralph: 2000 I think it was 2015. I think you started one or two years earlier Vince. Yeah, I started 2013 with
[1168.4] Vince: RC planes and I put FPV on the planes and the goggles and stuff and then I started to figure out they were drones and then
[1175.76] Vince: I met up with Ralph
[1178.48] Vince: Coincidentally for our first that oh my first FPV race. I was owning and that was in 2015
[1185.44] Vince: Yeah, I think so we started racing and we raced for as a hobby I think
[1190.6] Vince: till 2020
[1194.28] Ralph: For both of us it turned just from a hobby to like
[1199.16] Ralph: Professionally for me and DRL and for Vince DCL on the r1
[1204.72] Ralph: And we actually both raced in DCL
[1208.04] Ralph: for team IRC
[1210.28] Ralph: In I think 2018 or something
[1213.6] Vince: And we won first race in Romania. Yeah
[1217.4] Ralph: We won it and we were both in the same team. We knew each other already from some races, but then
[1222.68] Ralph: Yeah after that it kind of got serious for both of us
[1226.16] Stephen: I got you the exposure to like video editing production houses and things
[1232.08] Vince: Filming started yeah when
[1234.72] Vince: COVID came because yeah right right before COVID we kind of had this idea then COVID came and everything shut down and then
[1242.96] Vince: People wanted creative ways to film
[1245.72] Vince: With no people around and I think that's when we started doing the festivals
[1249.28] Ralph: Yeah, then it was then it went really big, but we started before that already
[1254.68] Ralph: So I think 2018 we were doing I was starting to do DRL in the US
[1259.72] Ralph: Yeah, but that's a racing but it's racing and then you did the r1
[1263.48] Ralph: But that's the exposure and basically also some of the skills I think because you know DRL racing
[1270.8] Ralph: It's you have a few thousand people watching or cameras in your face. It's a big heavy quad as well
[1276.76] Ralph: It's a big heavy quad
[1277.84] Ralph: But you know you're battling for for the lead and if you're if you crash you're out of the whole event
[1283.16] Ralph: So that's kind of learning how to deal with the pressure and when we started doing like transitioning from that into cinematics
[1291.44] Ralph: Basically those skills already helped
[1293.2] Stephen: So what's the transition something you initiated or people coming to you saying we need pilots because very few people do FPC
[1299.92] Stephen: V we need someone to fly this camera
[1303.44] Ralph: It started just yes. Yeah, it's a mix but we just as the racing we started doing it for fun
[1309.44] Ralph: And then oh, yeah, there's a wakeboarding facility next to my my place and I wanted to go film
[1315.84] Ralph: So I asked them can I film we made an edit that got some traction online and then people asked me
[1321.34] Ralph: Oh, can you do something like that for us? And then you know the ball starts rolling you do another gig that also
[1326.76] Ralph: Has some attention online, and then you know the ball just starts rolling and everything gets bigger and bigger hmm
[1333.32] Stephen: Yeah, it feels like there's a lack of that type of
[1337.68] Stephen: Company around Europe. There's a ton of it around Hollywood
[1340.82] Stephen: But you know we hear about all these people doing Hollywood movies and car shoots over in America
[1345.68] Stephen: But very few people break the news doing this stuff around your I think because all the big movies and stuff
[1353.12] Vince: That have the big budgets
[1355.4] Vince: Are made in America most of it and here in Europe we have a lot of work, and we do a lot of cool things
[1362.12] Vince: It's just not with the cinema cameras
[1364.88] Vince: Mostly, and it's not the the things you see on TV or in the movie right right because those guys are saying yeah
[1371.76] Stephen: I'm less. I'm flying this $10,000 camera. No one wants to touch it, but you guys are like hey
[1376.6] Stephen: We were just doing this for a music festival. We've got a GoPro
[1379.8] Stephen: It's better than nothing what they had before was just someone with a GoPro that wasn't flying
[1384.76] Vince: Yeah, it's super good man. The clients are happy everybody wants it like we get like tons of emails every day
[1391.32] Vince: I kid you not like phone calls of people wanting
[1394.36] Vince: Us to be on set and making cool shots for them, so yeah
[1399.04] Ralph: The difference between Europe and the US because in the US indeed
[1402.56] Ralph: There's flying with komodo's and bigger drones a lot we have to come out as well
[1406.6] Ralph: We fly with it once in a while
[1408.28] Ralph: But there's just not at least in the Netherlands not such so much big stuff happening a few big
[1413.88] Ralph: commercials sometimes like car commercials, but nothing like movie wise
[1417.8] Ralph: In Germany. It's a little bit bigger like our friends from
[1422.4] Ralph: Cinequads in Germany
[1427.04] Vince: Yeah, well, this is with a GoPro and they in love in this
[1432.36] Vince: TV for Dutch TV. Oh if you rewind it with it from the beginning if you can
[1437.8] Vince: You can see the shy so nice shot Ralph made the shop
[1443.8] Ralph: I mean you couldn't go this close and fast to people
[1450.12] Vince: For that for this program, and this is a program that's being viewed by going to Dutch people here in the Netherlands
[1456.28] Stephen: What are you lying for this then you got like the same two and a half inch platform?
[1459.92] Ralph: Yeah, I think bigger same same setup as
[1465.52] Stephen: Yeah, yes, that's not even as big as a regular city
[1468.12] Stephen: We visit that was I think you had like two and a half inch gym fans on that
[1471.92] Ralph: It's two and a half inch HQ. It's it's around 250 grams
[1476.52] Ralph: So it's it's like half of the weight of like a squirt. I guess
[1482.44] Ralph: Yeah, so yeah
[1483.52] Ralph: It's it's light enough a small enough to go like through the little window of the car in front of someone's face
[1489.28] Ralph: But also still fast enough to go downhill after a biker
[1492.76] Ralph: So it's pretty good. It's out of more than our 5-inch and our
[1496.28] Curry: Yeah, I was gonna say it's probably
[1498.28] Curry: The guy who can't look a little nervous if I could see him push back in his chair anymore
[1502.88] Curry: I think he would have done but he held it together quite well when he got out. So we
[1510.2] Curry: How is how is the sort of
[1512.32] Curry: What what if someone wanted to do this? What are the legal aspects or about flying commercially?
[1518.24] Curry: Did you have to do like a bunch of stuff and do you have to go out and do risk assessments and fill in paperwork?
[1523.32] Curry: Whenever you do this sort of thing
[1525.16] Ralph: sometimes
[1526.74] Ralph: Indoor there is no rules officially
[1529.96] Ralph: So you can do whatever you want if you want to fly and inspire at five centimeters from someone's face you can do it
[1536.16] Ralph: I wouldn't recommend it but
[1538.8] Ralph: When we fly outside like inside a no fly zone of an airport
[1542.46] Ralph: You need to do a whole flight plan risk assessment officially do a no time on the airports and everything but so it differs
[1549.88] Curry: Yeah, well, we've got people for that
[1552.44] Curry: Yeah, oh really you outsourced that well, that's cool. You can just get away flying and like do the legal stuff over there
[1558.48] Ralph: Yeah, exactly. It's like you spend weeks learning and getting the rights
[1563.96] Ralph: Papers to do that and then you have to write all the papers as well for each gig
[1567.84] Ralph: So like no, we're not gonna do that. Someone can do that for a few hundred bucks for each gig
[1572.64] Ralph: For us, then we're happy to pay them for it. Sounds like a perfect arrangement
[1577.72] Stephen: Yeah
[1579.0] Stephen: So we've got a question here. Our viewers have noticed that having just watched Eurovision and perhaps even
[1586.44] Stephen: Remembered some of it after a little bit of drinking
[1589.24] Stephen: I'm sure that this year's mascot was in fact a drone and there was a bunch of FPV stuff sort of littered through
[1596.52] Stephen: Obviously, there was a lot of cinematic stuff showing beautiful countryside, but you know, there was a fair bit of flying action
[1602.68] Stephen: Do you know who did that you mentioned you've done something in the past?
[1607.34] Ralph: No, I didn't do this. We didn't do this one. I saw a few pieces of it, but I don't know who did it
[1612.78] Ralph: It was some cool like calm cruising over Scenics and was a cool way to integrate the FPV drone into it
[1619.66] Vince: I think also because FPV this filming with FPV has been out for a while now
[1625.1] Vince: And I think some media companies have been starting to train some of them their people to fly
[1631.98] Vince: FPV and maybe make simple shots so they don't have to pay guys like us
[1637.06] Vince: To come in and do it. That's what I think but
[1640.66] Vince: Outrageous because you don't hear about it, you know
[1643.26] Vince: Like if there was a pilot in the community who made these shots
[1646.58] Vince: You would have heard who it was or seen who it was
[1649.74] Stephen: I mean a lot of those shots the cinematic stuff you could just use the big DJI quadrant
[1653.86] Vince: That's what I mean. I think if it's when it's simple stuff, I think it could be the
[1659.42] Vince: Media company doing the whole production one of their guys, you know, maybe a young kid who works for them as a
[1666.14] Vince: Gaffer or whatever picked up the FPV and started ripping around. They're like, hey we could use you and like that
[1673.98] Vince: Yeah, because the a lot of people see the potential nice. There's so many more
[1678.9] Vince: Little companies and little guys pop up and to to do what we do
[1685.1] Ralph: Yeah, like two years ago two years ago we knew like the five pilots who did this we knew
[1690.98] Ralph: And then now it's so big we see like some cinematic stuff coming out nearby that's like, oh, that's not bad
[1696.66] Ralph: I don't even know who that is. So it's getting bigger and bigger
[1700.34] Curry: We've got a question donation as well from wind who says what would you say is your go-to craft?
[1705.34] Curry: You've talked about that little two and a half inch. We're using a lot. Is that it? Thanks ring
[1710.66] Ralph: Yeah, that's what we use the most for sure
[1713.86] Ralph: Because it's such such versatile thing as soon as you get closer to people or it's like a little bit of
[1720.3] Ralph: Smaller setting you can use this for you know, anything from very close combat stuff to you know
[1726.7] Ralph: chasing a mountain biker if it's too tight to put the five inch up and so
[1731.06] Stephen: That's your is it your own frame design or is that something people could buy themselves? This is our own frame design
[1737.5] Ralph: It's called the god mode
[1739.54] Ralph: Which makes sense nice
[1742.46] Ralph: So you can buy this at I think the frame is at TBS shop now as well and also drone shop
[1747.74] Ralph: NL and then that means and you can buy a pre-built one there if you want cool and and the motors what you've got like
[1753.66] Ralph: 40 and I for something like this. This is a
[1757.7] Ralph: 1207 the RCM power
[1760.94] Ralph: So that's actually pretty big for such a small two and a half inch. It's a good stator
[1767.1] Ralph: So it's still usually when I find indoors
[1770.1] Ralph: It's I put a throttle limit of like 70% just that I have more throttle resolution when I'm just cruising
[1777.66] Ralph: And it's I think it's 5,000 KV
[1781.18] Ralph: On 4s. So if you full throttle it is still pretty damn fast now
[1785.18] Stephen: I see a metal box at the back if you actually put DJI in that one instead of analog
[1790.94] Ralph: Yeah, this one is DJI I have two of these with digital and two with analog
[1796.18] Ralph: Mostly for indoor simple indoor jobs. I use digital
[1800.18] Ralph: Yeah, because you know reflections in hot and in buildings are usually
[1804.74] Ralph: Better with that. Yeah, and
[1806.94] Stephen: To get the low down on the tech specs of people know how to do this from the professionals
[1812.38] Stephen: Are you guys buying into the AIO craze or you still might have a dual 20 by 20 separate FC ESC?
[1819.86] Ralph: This one has the all-in-one. So it's the beta
[1823.26] Ralph: thing to F7 beta FPV
[1827.06] Ralph: 35 amp all in one FC and EC people are so rude about them. They say they blow up all the time, but
[1834.42] Ralph: Professionals using this one. Yeah, I have to say the last batch. They have some gyro issues
[1839.46] Ralph: There's some bad gyros in that in the last batch of the F7s, I think
[1844.06] Ralph: But once you get a good one, it's
[1846.26] Ralph: They fly really well. Yeah
[1848.74] Frank: This episode was recorded in front of a live online audience
[1852.42] Frank: Downloaded and edited to make sense when it played audio only
[1855.74] Frank: Sensors to please the iTunes people hosted on the internet forwarded through to your podcast provider
[1860.66] Frank: Downloaded playing on your device and is now playing in your ears all thanks to our patreons
[1866.26] Frank: Consider joining them and you'll also get other online benefits find out more at patreon.com
[1872.58] Frank: Let's drone out
[1874.26] Stephen: Are you ever tempted to like rip acro just when you're going around a TV studio and everyone expects you to fly like a little
[1881.7] Stephen: Mavic or something are you ever tempted just to like throw in some snap rolls? Just yeah
[1886.66] Stephen: Vince Vince usually does it. Yeah, and they could get one rule for good luck. Got any stories about that?
[1894.18] Stephen: No, no, that's right a production assistant's head or something
[1897.7] Ralph: no, no, we
[1900.1] Ralph: I had one accident once with this one where we did a indoor tour for a school also with the same drone
[1906.42] Ralph: And the whole floor was supposed to be like locked off for people that are not in place by us
[1912.02] Ralph: But then someone still managed to get through and walk there
[1914.74] Ralph: We just fly full speed around the corner. Someone else walks in and just hit them straight in the head
[1919.46] Ralph: Oh with this setup
[1921.54] Ralph: It happened sometimes but they were like, oh I barely felt it was fine because it just it's up to
[1926.26] Ralph: And that's why you stick to the lightweight stuff. Exactly. That's also a big advantage
[1930.66] Vince: What I had once is that we do a lot of schools as well indoor tours with kids and
[1935.94] Vince: Just busy places and I was flying around and this one kid just
[1940.5] Vince: Grabbed my drone and ran away with it and we had to
[1944.26] Vince: Have to look in the goggles where they were and the teacher had to came and give him like the tension
[1950.34] Vince: Like the kid was like 10
[1952.82] Vince: And he didn't grab it like never find me. They have no idea what I look like he grabbed it like this on the side
[1959.14] Vince: So he wouldn't hit the props. It was pretty smart. I thought and he just ran it
[1963.3] Curry: I'm always super he wasn't smart enough to unplug the battery was he that would have he would have got away of it then
[1969.14] Ralph: Sure
[1969.94] Ralph: Vince had the same you had the same on the festival, right?
[1972.18] Ralph: Someone plucked it out of the air when you were flying over over them and then just yeah
[1976.74] Vince: These dudes were they were pretty tall and I saw like the hand just
[1981.38] Vince: And I didn't do anything and then I would have to go in the crowd and look for the guys and I actually found the drone
[1988.02] Vince: I found the guys they didn't want to give it back, but then they did and
[1991.3] Vince: Was all good, but that was scary
[1994.02] Jack: But you forget that like it's got a camera on it, you know who on
[1999.78] Jack: like
[2001.06] Vince: Yeah, it was like a uh, you know a hard festival. I think they were on drugs
[2008.02] Vince: They're out of it
[2010.58] Jack: Yeah, look at the butterfly man. Look at this butterfly. You should have traded them a bag of sugar or some basil
[2016.98] Jack: Okay
[2021.94] Stephen: I was going to say i'm really jealous
[2023.62] Stephen: I'm also glad to hear that festivals are going now and that you know
[2026.58] Stephen: You're doing your bit to kind of get people out there and go into festivals again. That's awesome
[2031.78] Ralph: Yeah, yeah, it's fun to do as well. Like uh the atmosphere there. We haven't had that in two years now. So
[2038.18] Ralph: Cool to be there and with all the music and large crowds going mental. So that's just fun to be there
[2044.58] Jack: Yeah, have you got any other horror stories
[2048.18] Vince: No, not a lot of horror stories most of the times everything goes well
[2052.58] Vince: uh
[2054.5] Vince: No, yeah, well losing I mean
[2057.3] Vince: I lost you know what the whole hype is right the big cinematic drones with the pijon
[2061.94] Vince: They're called with the naked black magic and nice drone. It's a nice drone
[2066.74] Vince: And I was on aruba a few months back. I was chasing
[2071.3] Vince: kitesurfer
[2072.9] Vince: and um
[2074.9] Vince: No foil I would say windsurf
[2077.86] Vince: But then like they stand up on the water with like the the thing that's oil. Yeah, I mean
[2084.42] Vince: Anyways, I was following this guy making nice shots
[2087.46] Vince: All of a sudden he puts his arm in the water and it splashes up into the fpv and I coated everything
[2093.54] Vince: And it just the video just froze
[2096.9] Tony: So different
[2099.3] Jack: That's uh
[2100.74] Tony: Super conductive. Yeah, salt water is a lot different to yeah, not one fresh
[2106.58] Ralph: Yeah
[2110.34] Vince: Sometimes and that's an expensive drone man. That's like naked black magic. Yeah
[2120.98] Jack: You've been a ladies man or is it like hey scoop and you've got like your special scoopie snack
[2127.94] Jack: Like do you own a van?
[2129.62] Ralph: Do you smoke in the van? Not not yet. Not yet
[2133.06] Ralph: But uh, no, it's just because I look like shaggy from scooby-doo basically
[2137.62] Ralph: I just got a haircut now. So it's less
[2140.66] Ralph: Less like him now, but if my grow my hair a little bit longer and bigger
[2145.54] Vince: It was from when we started drone racing you just needed some name, right?
[2150.66] Vince: and they were like shaggy and
[2152.9] Vince: My name is jedi and I did instead of the eye. I did the e y e like jedi
[2158.9] Vince: So I was like, yeah, that's a cool name
[2161.7] Vince: but sometimes I think I wish I chose a different name, but you just get that's your handle and
[2167.86] Vince: That's the way it goes. Yeah
[2170.34] Ralph: Changed. Yeah, my handle somehow got picked up and everyone everyone knows me as shaggy and no one knows me as well
[2176.82] Jack: Yeah, exactly more people call them shaggy than they call them realms. I was fascinated when
[2182.34] Jack: Vince told me that was your name. I was like, really?
[2186.1] Jack: But um, we're like a few weeks ago we had we had uh, tony cake from immersion rcy on
[2192.34] Jack: And he he sends his love he said like I hope you guys still remember me
[2197.78] Jack: Of course from a while ago and yeah, so
[2201.38] Jack: I've had some hard times with donnie, man
[2204.18] Jack: He's quite a character, isn't he? Yeah, he's just a strong boat and fish and chips and he's anyone's
[2212.26] Jack: And that's it
[2215.94] Jack: Decent fish and chips and you can just give him strong boat all all day all night long and he just
[2223.38] Jack: Yeah
[2224.5] Ralph: And then you're those races that through the professional
[2228.1] Ralph: Yeah dcl with team rsc. He was there for the two or three races. I was there as well
[2233.46] Ralph: But there was fun times with tony and all the other
[2236.66] Vince: Yeah back in the day fpv was super fun, man
[2240.9] Vince: Like it's one
[2242.58] Stephen: But I mean it's not sounds like there's a tense switch has it become a problem because fpv is your job now
[2248.26] Vince: It's not yeah
[2250.58] Vince: that's super fun that we that we get to fly for our job, but
[2254.66] Vince: We don't go to our yeah, we don't go to races like we used to you know, like
[2260.26] Vince: We used to go to all these different countries do all these big races and now we used to be super fun meet all these guys
[2267.3] Vince: Uh, you'd meet at every race again, you know, just the community hanging out and then corona came and then boom
[2274.42] Vince: Was all gone and now it's all online and
[2277.86] Stephen: Well, I just think it's very human aspects missing
[2280.66] Stephen: I used to do a bunch of conferences and things as well like tech conferences and it used to just be hanging out with people
[2286.26] Stephen: Now it's it's okay. We've got virtual conferences and it's not the same. It's not the same
[2290.34] Ralph: No, I don't like the the sim racing as well
[2292.42] Ralph: It's not even to watch and not to do it was so much fun
[2295.62] Ralph: Just go out to races and and meet with 40 people
[2299.22] Ralph: flying
[2301.7] Jack: Yeah, exactly borrow stuff off each other
[2304.42] Jack: Look at each other's faces
[2306.42] Jack: I know
[2307.46] Ralph: We didn't do that in the races, but don't know what you were doing. But
[2310.9] Stephen: It's just just just in just jack. Yes. So now, you know what to look out for if you ever meet jack in person
[2317.7] Stephen: people
[2320.02] Tony: Just
[2330.82] Ralph: But yeah
[2331.7] Ralph: It's it's picking up again a little bit in the netherlands now
[2334.26] Ralph: Just the the fun races on on grass fields and i'm planning to join a little bit
[2339.14] Ralph: But then our schedule fills up again. It's also a lot of fun
[2342.1] Ralph: But you know, yeah, sometimes it's it's cool to go racing again a little bit just for a fun afternoon with
[2348.26] Ralph: With all cool people. Yeah, I don't know. We've got a race again news angle after two years out
[2354.66] Ralph: Five years
[2355.86] Ralph: I did practice a little bit in between just with a few friends
[2358.82] Ralph: So I think I can keep up with like the top five in the netherlands, maybe but we'll see
[2364.5] Tony: Oh
[2365.54] Tony: I'll be slow
[2370.34] Stephen: Someone's asking us what your take is on the latest fat shocks
[2374.18] Stephen: And you guys gonna slap down your money because you're professionals. You can probably write it off as a business expense, right?
[2380.34] Vince: It's a ride off. Let's go
[2384.98] Vince: Yeah, I think we're gonna like when it's out out
[2388.5] Vince: Uh, because I think it's still gonna take some time
[2391.22] Vince: I think we'll get it there to see what it does
[2394.34] Vince: but if it's not a difference and we don't have an advantage, I think i'll stick to dji but
[2400.34] Vince: I need to try the goggles. See how they feel see if this is maybe we can repeat with that system
[2407.38] Stephen: Have you tried doing the repeats or an hd zero?
[2411.14] Vince: No, yeah, I haven't tried hd zero you bro. No, I haven't
[2416.74] Ralph: Good work, you know, there's there's lots of hypes already always going on in fpv and there's one every month
[2422.66] Ralph: Uh and in cinematics you want to have something that you rely on you need to get used to it a little bit
[2428.26] Ralph: So you cannot jump on every hype train that you want. So sometimes we pick one like the naked black magics
[2433.78] Ralph: We are on that right away
[2435.94] Ralph: Uh, and then, you know something like this
[2438.26] Ralph: We're like, okay
[2439.3] Ralph: We'll see how this goes what people think we'll try it from someone and then see for the next two firmware updates
[2445.3] Ralph: How it's getting and if we get a real advantage from it, we feel like then we'll get into it for sure
[2450.58] Ralph: But yeah on this one. We're a bit slow. I think to get into that. Yeah
[2455.54] Curry: There's a lot of technology quite
[2457.54] Curry: Calm talking about it because when you say the black magic
[2460.5] Curry: We'll get straight onto that because I thought you were going to say and then we got the black magic
[2463.7] Curry: And then vince crashed it into the sea. So we'll not talk about that anymore
[2468.34] Curry: No, we have like a bunch of them man
[2470.66] Curry: The black magics. That's all right. I think we have five
[2473.62] Ralph: Magics now. So wow
[2475.7] Stephen: Yeah, we're fine. They're a company man. They've got like insurance policies and things
[2480.18] Curry: I'll go yeah, but you know my car's insured but whenever someone crashes it I still get quite upset about it
[2487.54] Vince: No, I tried to not get upset in all those years that i've been flying and
[2493.3] Vince: You just lose drones. It's not happens mistakes happen all the time. Don't I? Yeah
[2498.34] Vince: I mean if it happens every weekend that you lose something then something you're fired
[2504.18] Ralph: You know, yeah, but cinematics is luckily it's not like it's not like racing
[2508.82] Ralph: Like racing you you crash every three eats
[2511.38] Ralph: but
[2512.1] Ralph: Cinematics like an expensive crash happens very rarely like this this example with vince with the foil surfer
[2518.42] Ralph: It was very that was the only black magic we actually lost in like two and one and a half years
[2523.54] Ralph: So, uh, yeah, it's still pretty it's pretty good. You stay under your limit most of the time
[2528.74] Jack: Did you get it back? So did the sea just keep it? Um, I was like
[2533.78] Vince: It's gone. I'm not gonna
[2536.1] Vince: Waste my days going to search because you have a dead drone
[2540.9] Vince: The frame you can use I could probably get the shots of the card
[2545.7] Jack: Yeah
[2546.9] Jack: I wonder if it's it's worth getting um
[2550.5] Jack: Because you know the yanks, you know, like they got like the whole alabam there and they go gator hunting
[2556.5] Jack: You know like shooting the crocodiles and shit
[2560.18] Jack: Um, they've got like a little
[2563.46] Jack: Device that you struck to your gun and if you drop it in water
[2567.78] Jack: Yeah, take the water and then blows up this balloon and it will float back and the
[2574.9] Jack: Yeah, the full surf is already there you can be like mate on your next run go grab that yellow thing
[2580.5] Vince: Yeah, they get her back
[2582.74] Vince: I used to have one and I put it on a drone like every time and then nothing happened and then I lost it
[2588.98] Vince: Oh
[2589.86] Vince: Yeah, maybe it's worth nothing happens like this and then you don't have it on
[2594.42] Vince: Yeah
[2596.66] Tony: The last battery or when you don't put it on it happens
[2600.58] Vince: Oh one it wasn't even recording bvr man. I was like, uh
[2605.38] Vince: You know those times you're like, ah should I record it here? Yeah, it'll probably be fine. And they're quite pop
[2612.02] Jack: Yeah, they're quite popular with um
[2614.18] Jack: uh dive people they attach it to their mates dive belts and then when they jump in the water it goes off and
[2621.7] Jack: They can't get it off
[2623.3] Jack: I've seen that it's like a prank. I think it's quite funny
[2627.14] Jack: Because you're just you know, you're just stuck there like that. We find this thing on your back
[2635.86] Vince: I still have guys as well put um bottles water bottles
[2640.66] Vince: Yeah
[2642.66] Vince: Under their drone. So if they crash it'll stay afloat. I mean
[2646.82] Vince: You could do that
[2648.66] Ralph: I've had
[2651.7] Ralph: Yeah, it always flies a little bit less nice when you put the bottle on it
[2654.9] Stephen: So sometimes like you'd have to tune for it definitely
[2658.26] Ralph: Yeah, but like you want to work the wrist just to get a better shot
[2661.62] Stephen: Do you guys uh, are you beat a flight all the way or are you gonna put ianav on there to be a bit paranoid?
[2667.14] Stephen: And get it back
[2669.3] Vince: Better flights always yes
[2672.18] Vince: We don't put gps. Nothing then
[2674.74] Stephen: I noticed in 4.4. They're actually talking about doing altitude hold
[2678.82] Stephen: So when you lose signal instead of it like trying to fly back and not realizing there's a wall between you and it or the tunnel
[2685.46] Stephen: Ceiling or something. It'll just be like zoop and stay there and just hover
[2691.54] Vince: It's a good feature to have for sure
[2693.54] Ralph: It's just I do have to return to home on better flight on one or two of my drones
[2699.22] Ralph: Like I think one of the black magics and one five inch
[2701.86] Ralph: so just in some situations where I know i'm like flying next to a
[2706.82] Ralph: like a
[2707.94] Ralph: Cell phone tower where I know there's a big chance
[2710.66] Ralph: My crossfire might might blow out then I might use that
[2715.46] Ralph: But yeah, it can be a good feature
[2717.7] Ralph: To have that just if you're in a very risky situation or just over water
[2721.78] Ralph: And something does happen and it at least flies back
[2724.98] Stephen: Kind of and then you guys said you weren't you weren't using the black magic all the time
[2728.98] Stephen: But these guys in hollywood with their like 20 000 cameras that they're all flying beta flight and they're just like
[2736.18] Stephen: See what happens yeah
[2738.18] Ralph: Yeah, we fly our komodo without gps as well. I think yeah, no it has gps, but
[2744.02] Ralph: You know sometimes it takes like three minutes to lock on gps
[2748.58] Jack: You don't know
[2751.14] Jack: You guys are brave
[2753.7] Jack: Pretty like warm up, you know, uh
[2757.62] Jack: Separate power supply for it so you can switch on
[2762.08] Stephen: hobbyists worry about losing like a hundred euros of kit, but you guys are just like
[2768.18] Tony: So you can factor losses into
[2772.66] Tony: You know back to the prices yeah
[2775.3] Vince: All right
[2777.3] Vince: Yeah, so now no, sorry so good, you know, the gear is so good. It doesn't really feel so often unless you
[2785.46] Vince: And crash yourself, but other than that
[2788.26] Vince: Most of the times stay in the air, you know what I mean?
[2790.98] Stephen: Yeah, there's some idiot though
[2792.58] Stephen: Like we turn on like a five gigahertz transmitter or turn on something and just blast what happened the other day
[2798.02] Vince: We were filming as well and uh, somebody turned on the mavic next to me and boom
[2802.5] Vince: We jagged on
[2804.1] Vince: crashed broke the drum
[2806.34] Ralph: Yeah, it does happen. Yeah, but yeah, otherwise, you know cinematics is still
[2810.66] Ralph: Different from freestyle or racing you're always below your limit
[2814.74] Ralph: You don't want to crash because you're flying for a client
[2817.38] Ralph: So you're staying below your limit all the time and when you do something running risky and you see it's going wrong
[2822.66] Ralph: You just bill and try to do it again
[2825.78] Ralph: So yeah, you don't crash very often. It's really exceptional when either something technical happens
[2831.7] Ralph: Very rarely that makes you crash or you know, sometimes you make a little mistake, but it's it's very rare
[2838.42] Ralph: So still if i'm flying the komodo
[2840.74] Vince: I'm pretty certain that nothing's gonna happen and you have the eight motors and on the sitario
[2844.98] Vince: So if one motor or prop feels it will still flat. Yeah
[2850.66] Stephen: So we've got a question from caroline tyler here who I think uh wants to know if you get naked
[2857.3] Stephen: Uh specifically the black magic and gopros. Do you do that yourself or you just buy that? Oh, yeah. Yeah, we uh,
[2864.66] Ralph: Sometimes we do it ourselves
[2866.34] Ralph: Sometimes we have a friend of ours bus
[2868.82] Ralph: uh bus on hill sniper x
[2870.82] Ralph: Uh, he does some of our uh
[2873.38] Ralph: uh
[2874.26] Ralph: Denaked nakedization as she says it
[2877.3] Ralph: uh, and we did some gopros ourselves, but then
[2880.98] Ralph: uh now the latest ones we got from kimtang like the the guy from china who does all these
[2886.42] Ralph: Naked cameras and just pre-builds them and sells them. They're really good
[2889.7] Ralph: So then usually it's like it's worth just paying a little bit more
[2894.02] Ralph: Not having to spend a whole evening making someone who does like 20 a day and they're an expert
[2899.3] Ralph: Exactly in the last version of the pdb and and all the new tricks. So then you're up to date
[2905.22] Curry: So are you so well tempted by the the gopro?
[2909.62] Curry: Bone the the ten version or is it too heavy for you?
[2913.22] Vince: I would love to have it, but they don't sell it here in the euro. We're we're second class citizens in europe
[2918.74] Ralph: You'll have to grab some next time you're in america. Yeah, I really don't know why they did that
[2924.42] Jack: Well, it's because you know
[2926.18] Jack: We're uh, we're not allowed to have hot things says dji
[2930.9] Jack: You know, we can only count up to eight six eight and not nine fifteen. Well, tony
[2936.58] Jack: Anyway, you know, we might hurt ourselves
[2940.28] Jack: You know, we're not allowed locking flick knives or anything, you know
[2945.24] Vince: Yeah
[2947.32] Vince: Drones the the bones. I mean it's twice as heavy as a normal
[2951.72] Vince: Naked and normal naked is around 30 and I heard the phone just 60 grams. Yeah
[2957.08] Stephen: So it's a big dump from the naked nines and eights
[2960.28] Vince: Yeah, it's a bit
[2962.6] Vince: Heavy for our god mode
[2965.0] Vince: But I think if you put it on a five inch where you would normally put a full-sized gopro
[2969.48] Vince: And now you put the bones. That's a good thing to do. I would love to get one to try
[2973.64] Ralph: Yeah, I started flying all my five inch drones also with the naked gopro now
[2977.56] Ralph: Uh, which is really nice. You don't have to worry about the battery. You just start it on a switch
[2983.16] Ralph: And super light, uh, but then on a five inch if you start doing a little bit riskier stuff
[2988.2] Ralph: It's nice to have the bones on there. The 30 grams doesn't matter much
[2991.4] Ralph: But then you have the replacement service you haven't been more sturdy
[2995.4] Ralph: So I would love to have it for that if they sold it here
[2999.64] Stephen: Yeah, I wondered if that was factored in because they they seem very keen to sell this in the u.s
[3004.04] Stephen: Well, I think they've got a bigger addressable market and they've got lots of people buying into that replacement service
[3009.72] Stephen: Whereas in europe, I think maybe fewer people do that
[3012.84] Tony: Yeah, maybe I do it though
[3015.08] Tony: I mean even even using them mountain biking on your helmet was so much lighter
[3019.64] Tony: I went out mountain biking the other day and I put a pole
[3022.84] Tony: And a t-ro 10 facing me and I hadn't
[3026.44] Tony: I had a sore neck after a two and a half minute run
[3029.4] Tony: So I have been something smaller on the leverage
[3033.16] Curry: And if anyways tried if you look at all gopros like promo shots when they do the skiing stuff
[3038.44] Curry: When I ski and I put it at the end of my pole and you hold it out there
[3042.12] Curry: And last time of this just with only with a gopro seven
[3045.56] Curry: The amount of pressure you then have on your wrist because it's weighing so much
[3049.96] Curry: It's like just getting something lighter. That would be nice
[3053.16] Stephen: You're talking about your open hd setup courage like doing your neck exercises
[3058.2] Stephen: That would be super heavy
[3059.96] Ralph: On all of these if you do put the bones on like a stick or your helmet
[3063.48] Ralph: Then you do need to figure out like put a battery on your arm or something. Oh, that's true
[3068.44] Ralph: You have to power it somehow, don't you? It's better for yeah, you have to power it somehow
[3072.28] Vince: But you could run a long wire or put a wire in your helmet with a little light
[3076.92] Ralph: Yeah, put the battery in the back and then the camera on the front and it balances out. Good work
[3081.0] Curry: Yeah, i'll be kind of nice
[3082.12] Curry: I also like having wires on me just in case people think i'm gonna blow myself up
[3085.96] Curry: I think that's often a great way of getting people away from you. They should bring back discussion, man
[3093.16] Jack: Yes, yeah saying that for how long we we need a petition
[3097.48] Tony: I've still got two
[3100.44] Tony: So
[3102.44] Stephen: No, you've got like i've got a small 4k that has a little jst
[3106.44] Stephen: You've got these naked gopros that have a jst and then there's a runcam thumb
[3110.2] Stephen: That's got a little ph2. It feels like we need a good connector for an external power
[3116.04] Stephen: Camera that's not a usb plug. That's just something a little bit stronger that can take a knock. It's not a tiny jst lead
[3124.36] Stephen: We're missing something
[3125.88] Ralph: I'm a fan of the xd30s
[3128.28] Ralph: For this they're very sturdy, but yeah
[3131.32] Ralph: They're a little bit bigger again for a naked gopro. It's a bit too big again. So yeah, there's nothing good
[3137.32] Ralph: Yeah, it's too big
[3139.56] Tony: But have you got any
[3141.4] Tony: Gigs that you're excited to um to do coming up?
[3146.39] Ralph: Probably can't talk about it
[3149.67] Ralph: Let me see my I don't know we have a few big things coming up again with red bull
[3154.55] Ralph: Oh, yeah, i'm not allowed to talk about those yet
[3157.83] Vince: I'm going to aruba next week for high winds. It's like a
[3165.11] Vince: Windsurfing competition or let's go by don't lose another jump, but that's gonna be cool
[3173.43] Jack: Have you ever had the experience of like you go to a gig
[3177.11] Jack: You know do a job and then you end up in a situation where you feel like
[3182.15] Jack: How did this happen like there's like cocaine and there's hookers and then there's like
[3187.67] Jack: You're on a speed boat and then the next thing you're in a castle with you know
[3197.67] Jack: Surrounded by people with guns because like you sound like you're in that sort of industry where
[3204.71] Stephen: You know and he's still got the goggles on all this crap's happening around me. He's like, come on
[3209.51] Stephen: The goggles off yet
[3211.51] Vince: Yeah, all right. No, but that's cool and we're gonna do with red bull some cool things. I don't know if we can talk about it
[3219.27] Stephen: Your official red bull pilots now
[3222.55] Ralph: No
[3223.43] Ralph: No, no, not official
[3224.71] Ralph: But we have good connections and a lot of people from red bull that know us and uh know what we can do
[3230.47] Ralph: So stuff is happening for sure
[3233.35] Ralph: Excellent
[3234.23] Ralph: Yeah, but yeah
[3236.55] Ralph: About those situations you asked like we go to places like sody arabia. I was there in dubai
[3241.99] Ralph: Where you expect stuff like that could happen?
[3245.11] Ralph: Uh, but it hasn't happened yet. We're like usually there's a crew around us with safety guys and and security
[3253.59] Jack: No, if that ever happens, I expect you guys to like message me and be like yo that happened
[3260.47] Ralph: I'm on the live stream to talk about that. Yeah
[3265.19] Jack: I know
[3266.47] Jack: said how
[3268.47] Jack: These are my attention
[3270.47] Stephen: Have you been tempted to like have your own live stream and talk about your stories because it sounds like just your showreel
[3276.31] Stephen: I mean you've been all over the place
[3280.15] Ralph: We need to do more stuff like that
[3281.91] Ralph: I think like do more behind the scenes and explain what we did and how we did it and where we're going
[3288.23] Ralph: But dtg lounge. Yeah
[3290.63] Vince: Trying to professionalize it but all this time that we try to do all this we have too much to do, man
[3297.67] Ralph: That's really the business at the same time. Yeah, it's it's tough to combine. We're kind of expanding now
[3303.03] Ralph: So we have one guy dion he's going to do some project management for us and producing stuff
[3308.71] Ralph: So that takes some stuff out of our hands and then hopefully soon. We'll have some more time
[3314.71] Ralph: Besides all the gigs that we can focus on that kind of stuff and do more behind the scenes
[3319.51] Ralph: uh
[3320.31] Ralph: But yeah, i'm i'm not the kind of person that does like vlogging and
[3324.07] Ralph: And talks in front of the camera too often vince does it a bit more maybe
[3328.87] Ralph: But uh, yeah, once i'm i'm on a gig and I need to do I need to fly then i'm focused on that and i'm I just forget to
[3336.15] Ralph: Film or do behind the scenes and stuff like that. And i'm always like rough. Let me film you let's put it on stories, man
[3342.87] Vince: B roll
[3345.67] Vince: Behind the scenes. Yeah
[3347.27] Vince: Yeah, well, I know a guy
[3349.67] Vince: Though on on our instagram, so we've got the dutch drone gods instagram
[3354.07] Vince: Which is growing day by day and also because of the chile shots. They did a collaboration post with us red pool
[3360.79] Vince: And we got massive following, uh because of that post so that was nice
[3365.83] Vince: So we're trying to be active there trying to post every week do some cool stories behind the scenes when we can
[3372.07] Vince: And shaggy's got his own instagram shaggy fpv i've got jedi fpv
[3376.71] Vince: So there's a bunch of content that we post on there weekly
[3380.63] Vince: So if you're interested in what we do, you could always check that out
[3383.99] Vince: Check out the drone gods check out what we do and we always answer questions. I mean I at least do I think
[3390.07] Vince: Ralph does that as well? Yeah, yeah people message us in boxes a and what do you use?
[3394.87] Stephen: What's the best way for people to get in touch with you if they've got some cool opportunity?
[3399.51] Vince: Facebook messenger facebook messages for me. Uh, sorry, uh instagram
[3405.11] Ralph: Instagram. Yeah, that works. Okay, or just uh, if it's like a business type thing
[3410.07] Ralph: You can go to our website and fit in the contact form
[3412.95] Ralph: And there uh, yeah, then it gets to our inbox as well
[3417.11] Ralph: drone gods calm that's drone gods exactly
[3420.95] Vince: Actually a lot of times. Uh, I i'm surprised by how many people fill in the contact form
[3426.47] Vince: They actually do that in the beginning when we made the website. I was like that's never gonna work
[3430.79] Vince: Nobody's gonna fill in the contact form and they actually do so that's pretty cool. Yeah
[3436.79] Ralph: And usually the uh more the local
[3439.43] Ralph: Uh, local media teams that want to hire us for stuff. They just google
[3443.19] Ralph: You know fpv drone or race row netherlands and then they they still get to our website. So that's cool. Nice
[3449.59] Stephen: Well, it sounds like you're going through a lot of growth, which is fantastic
[3453.83] Stephen: It's nice to hear about our brothers in europe experiencing some success. It's good to see you guys out there
[3460.15] Stephen: Uh, hopefully we get you back maybe in six months or a year and catch up with you and see what other awesome stuff you've been up to
[3467.27] Ralph: We'd love to be cool
[3469.43] Jack: That'd be amazing guys
[3471.51] Jack: Thank you. Um
[3473.19] Jack: We that's all we've got time for unfortunately, but it's been an absolute pleasure having you on
[3480.07] Jack: Um, thank you. You've been listening to let drone out. You've been joined by everyone. So for coke hidden. Good night
[3486.39] Jack: Uh stephen. Cheers. Thank you guys
[3489.11] Jack: Uh, my darling wife tony
[3492.71] Jack: Vince
[3494.47] Jack: and
[3495.35] Jack: shaggy
[3496.63] Jack: From the dutch drone gods. Thank you guys coming on. It's been an absolute pleasure
[3501.91] Jack: Thank you to all our patreons
[3504.55] Jack: Uh, like comment subscribe and on social media
[3509.51] Jack: Uh send pictures of your bums to tony at tones. Please don't telemetry last
