[20.58] Jack: Hello, you're listening to let's drone out tonight, you are joined by everyone's favorite man with a moustache Steven. Hello, my buddy. Hello. Hello, Cole's finally back from being ill and a coughing mess. Yep. Thankfully, my darling wife bonjour every time you say that now. [78.49] Jack: What from throwing up? It's been six years. Where's the ring? 352 episodes man. It's insane. I was only getting better. [97.81] Jack: My thumbnail game is tight. Thanks, Cole. All in a day's work. [103.57] Jack: And I'm bright until I fly. Hello and welcome. So I guess we're gonna start arguing. Well, Stephen's done some analog flying. Should we start there? [113.49] Stephen: So I've done some analog flying. I got one of these, these bad boys, these carbon fiber indestructible antennas from true RC. Go Canada. Yeah, go Canada. And I wanted to put it on something. So I put it on this little guy, which is called a bando basher, a little kind of squash decks frame from a UK guy had this cut ages ago from a CNC direct from one of these places. [136.53] Stephen: Yeah, it's a nice little quad, except I forgot that when you you get everything working beautiful on analog setup, you think, oh, the video is good tunes good. And you start to go a bit crazy on the throttle. And you realize that you left the video wise to near the SC. And it just freaking cuts out the instant you like give it some welly. So that was fun and a little bit terrifying. [157.05] Jack: Was it the usual like fuzzy little lines coming in on [160.97] Stephen: Yeah, turning into more, more, more black between the lines than remaining video, it was like actually blacking out sections of the frame. It was pretty full on [170.73] Jack: goal you pointing out buddy, [173.01] Stephen: Ryan, well, here, let me see here. So we have Ryan's I have some serious aloe vera going on. Oh, yeah. You want to be careful. We had one of those and it grew so big that it just like suicide itself just jumped onto the floor. [186.33] Koel: Yeah, it's got a few more months in it, I think, before that. [192.01] Stephen: And when they do go like, they look like they're fine. And of course, it's healing. And it's nice. But it stains like a SOB like it's clear. And then it turns into this bright red stain. Like someone's been murdered on the floor or something. It's ridiculous. [207.13] Stephen: No fun. [208.29] Tony: I haven't flown analog for months. And I've got to fly analog next month because it's wings and wheels next month. I haven't booked it. I haven't even fixed me ex class. And I think hopefully wings and wheels is at the end of the month and not the beginning. Because I've got a lot of work to do. [229.45] Stephen: And I'm gonna test it beforehand or just go out into the middle of the field throttle up and everything catches fire. [235.65] Tony: Oh, God, don't don't say that. No, I'm going over to fossil HQ maybe next Friday. So I've got to get a PDB delivered before then. And I know hobby I'll see you doing one for 20 quid at home. [251.53] Tony: 450 m or something ridiculous. So I'm going to get that. And then I'm going to buy another [257.93] Tony: What do you call it? Let's play. Oh, God. [263.53] Tony: Tell me what they call the VTX DJI VTX. [267.05] Tony: Oh, air unit. [268.05] Tony: Small one. [269.17] Tony: Oh, [272.13] Tony: I can't believe how much I've gone up now. [275.77] Tony: So order for one PDB delivered with a cadet fister and camera was nearly 200 quid. [283.57] Tony: Oh, [284.89] Tony: 130 summing pan again. Now they were like 90 quid. The last time I bought a vista was 90 quid. They're 136 I believe. [296.81] Jack: It is wrong. Is this is this a product of the sweet? Should we talk about it? The fat shark? [304.33] Jack: Oh, let's get the rumor mill going. [306.93] Tony: Well, surely DJI would put their stuff down. [309.25] Stephen: Well, I think there's only a limited supply, isn't there per month? So it's just how much are people panicking in a given month? [317.89] Tony: Yeah, well, I've got a bar one and a PDB song gonna have to shell out. [324.01] Jack: And yeah, and there's talks of it no longer, you know, they're not not compatible with the new goggles. [331.49] Stephen: Well, yeah, let's talk about that. But there's also a statement out there saying that cadets are going to continue to sell it no matter what. [338.09] Tony: Yeah, yeah, yeah. [339.29] Jack: Yeah, but for how long? [341.41] Stephen: Well, yeah. [344.21] Tony: Forever. [346.25] Stephen: The actual [348.29] Stephen: VTX part itself fairly robust. What you've got to worry about is the cameras. If you can't get the nice cameras. [355.89] Tony: I've got 29 days. Thanks, Richard Warwick in the chat. [360.93] Jack: Richard Warwick every week is going to be counting down. So Tony knows how much trouble he's in. [369.45] Stephen: So he can leave it till the last minute before he bothers to see if the x glass is working. It's going to be the morning before wings and wheels. So take it out, put it in his front yard, wait till there's no neighbors walking past and just [382.21] Stephen: quick little test, put it through his old front window. [385.37] Jack: Yes. [386.89] Jack: I have only really got me for [392.89] Jack: next. [394.93] Jack: Yeah, like next week. And then after that, I'm I'm out. [400.49] Jack: You all for a while. [401.97] Jack: Yeah, I'm off for a while. Yeah, so it will be a world tour. [405.77] Jack: You don't know next week's my last lecture and out for a while. And I don't know whether I'll be fit and able to even do wings and wheels. [416.45] Tony: That's a shame you're going in for your thing. [418.81] Jack: Yeah, sorry. [420.25] Tony: Well, at least that's going to be done. So it's a shame you won't make wings and wheels. [425.25] Jack: Yeah, I mean, I might. But you know, I might be pushed around in Ryan's wheelchair. Well, I might be on the car. [434.09] Tony: We could do that. As long as we can bump you into women and our grannies and things like that. [440.53] Tony: Well, no, you do it to me. [442.93] Koel: Just not into traffic. [445.13] Tony: That's only if he misbehaves. [448.37] Jack: I was, man, I was so looking forward to bottom when they were in the care home. [454.29] Jack: I know that would have been amazing. [456.37] Tony: It would have been brilliant, but it's not to be. [461.53] Tony: It's going to be nice seeing people from the chat there again. I'm pretty sure probably one school ago. [467.33] Tony: I know Ryan chat is going to go. I don't know if Richard Warwick is. [472.49] Jack: Why is their advertising so bad for that event? [476.73] Jack: They haven't even corrected the year. [479.29] Stephen: I don't believe the dates because it says 2021. That's probably not right, is it? [487.29] Koel: We're going back in time. [489.85] Koel: What am I going to get? [492.33] Jack: Where the next class flew over the barrier or do we not talk about that? [498.77] Tony: It wasn't me, so you can talk about it if you want. [503.01] Tony: Who was it? [504.29] Jack: I don't know, but whatever it was, I think I know who it was. [510.26] Tony: Fandango. [511.9] Jack: All I saw when I attended last year's was someone's ex-class go into the field of grass. [523.74] Jack: The big tall grass, and it looked expensive. [527.78] Tony: That was Clive's, I think, but I don't think it was all right. [531.82] Stephen: Ex-class doing anything except the softest of landings looks expensive. [536.3] Tony: Well, yeah, I mean, it's all pretty expensive, but it's good fun when it's off. I think there's actual [545.1] Tony: race on wings and wheels, the Saturday and the Sunday. I probably want to get there Saturday [551.42] Tony: because I don't think there'll be anything ex-class who's flying on the Sunday because I reckon [555.5] Tony: they'll all be done. [558.26] Koel: You said it was a 450 amp ESC for that, right? [561.86] Tony: That was the PDB. [563.46] Koel: Oh, OK. [565.94] Tony: I think my PSCs are only 80. [570.42] Stephen: OK, OK. [571.5] Tony: So they're not that bad. [574.54] Stephen: Maybe ex-class. [576.18] Tony: I want to put APD in it, but they're 100 pound a corner. [580.54] Jack: That's a lot, especially when you need 100 pound a corner and one spare. [588.06] Tony: Yeah, exactly. It's like having a car tires. [593.26] Stephen: Is that the actual kind of cost of the chunky FET? So is it the fact that only APC makes those in [599.02] Stephen: the zero competition? [601.66] Tony: There is not really any competition out there. I think APD is just the best. [608.22] Stephen: So I've been slowly trying to encourage people to get a hold of the new AM32 ESC. [617.02] Stephen: They've finally put out a pre-flashed one. And I'm kind of hoping like maybe if that goes well, [622.46] Stephen: it'll start to bring a bit more competition into that space. Because right now a manufacturer has [627.82] Stephen: to go and sign a contract with the Beall Heli 32 guys, get licensed firmware for that or go [633.58] Stephen: their own route like APD, which is excruciatingly expensive and requires in-house R&D. [641.26] Stephen: So there's a 55 amp AM32 ESC, which has come out. And I asked if Hobby RC would stock it, [649.26] Stephen: and they said they've reached out. So fingers crossed. It's from Skystars. It's going to be [654.3] Stephen: 55 amp and they reckon it'll do from 8K to 144K PWM. So quite a wide range. Don't know if that's [663.18] Stephen: going to help things or not. It supports all the features. Basically, it does everything Beall [667.74] Stephen: Heli 32 does. And it does some wacky stuff with current protection and things that helps you if [673.9] Stephen: you bump stuff as a racer. It seems to be really popular with racers. They say they're quite hard [679.18] Stephen: to fry. So fingers crossed if that's popular, we might see a few people bringing out some new [685.74] Stephen: chunky ESCs on the high end as well. That might be good. [689.82] Jack: I am looking forward to that day when you don't have to worry about ESC power. [697.26] Jack: The ESC is interchangeable between 4S super high KVs and 6S. [707.66] Tony: Yeah, just one ESC. What does it all? [711.82] Stephen: There's a few open source designs out there. And I'm just hoping that that AM32 firmware is... [718.22] Stephen: You know, we need something a bit fancier than BlueJ, right? People are not going to put [722.22] Stephen: their X-Class in the air with an 8-bit ESC. They're just not. So there's a few people who are [727.98] Stephen: designing their own ESCs. I think the fundamentals of ESC design are quite well known. It's just that [733.02] Stephen: to get the firmware on it, it's a bit of a bind. [735.58] Tony: Well, look, in the chat, Numsgolfs just spent $250 on 4 APD80 amps. [746.14] Stephen: Did you see his maiden video? So that was pretty awesome. [750.14] Tony: It was. So it was a nice tune to it in the end. [757.42] Stephen: It's hilarious on those big quads when people go for a power loop and they just kind of open up [762.78] Stephen: the throttle, flip around, you look at the sky and the next time you see the ground, it's like 50 [767.34] Jack: meters up. Sounds like cold. When he was a bit out of practice on your power loops. [776.46] Koel: Oh, geez, send it to the freaking moon, man. It was like [780.78] Koel: too... It was just like, I send it way too high here. [786.06] Tony: That's the one thing I've never thought the angle of is power loops. I've just never been... [792.3] Koel: Any good at them? Well, it's weird because the first time that I tried to do it in real, [798.14] Koel: like I did it in a sim and whatever, but first time I tried to do them in real life, [801.82] Koel: they scared the absolute crap out of me. And I ended up like, well, the first time I tried it, [808.38] Koel: I almost crashed and I somehow saved myself. And I don't know, it's just kind of a timing thing. [814.86] Koel: And you kind of have to know when to pull back and when to give off the throttle, [819.1] Koel: when to put the throttle back on. And once you actually get a hang of it, it's super easy, [823.1] Koel: I've found. It's actually not as difficult as it seems if you haven't gotten it down. [831.58] Stephen: You really need to know where your camera is at though. I think that's the thing that catches [836.06] Stephen: me out is the camera angle. I can do rolls and stuff and mix in for the camera angle, [841.9] Stephen: but power loops, I never know whether I'm thrusting myself backwards or up, right? That catches me [847.82] Koel: out. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, like, I mean, what I kind of do is like, so say this is the thing I'm [854.62] Koel: going over, like this, this is my quad or whatever. So say, say my phone is my quad. [860.86] Koel: What I kind of do is I try to go underneath and I, I'm like kind of slightly like this, [865.66] Koel: but I throttle a lot when I'm around here. So I'm going up, but then I start pulling back. So like, [871.02] Koel: I know I have the clearance and I'm going sort of like up and then, then you start, you know, [876.38] Koel: pitching it back and then, you know, it kind of, I don't know, I'm not really that great at explaining [881.1] Stephen: it. I get to there and then just throttle and goes. Well, I think that's what I'm doing, [887.42] Stephen: but then I look back and find out that I've kind of actually been throttling when I was more or [892.3] Stephen: less just like that. And I just go, whoo. Yeah. Yeah. And then it just sends you straight up, [896.78] Koel: right? Yeah. Well, if you guys are open to it, I can show you something I just, I just flew on [901.66] Koel: Monday. Um, when I did a couple of power loops, if you want to see that, you guys can see all that [907.74] Tony: there. Oh, it's going through metal as well with analog, right? Yep. It was actually, I was having [914.7] Koel: a good time, but so yeah, I basically found this, um, this construction site and, uh, you know, [922.06] Koel: as you see, the construction site is just all bars and it's pretty scary looking, but I found this [929.02] Koel: nice opening, like basically through this doorway, I kind of went up through the roof and then power [935.26] Koel: loops back. And I mean, it's not the cleanest of power loops, but I still manage to still manage [942.06] Koel: to do it. Um, and so that was pretty fun. Then I also found, I went to this university on a holiday [950.86] Koel: when no one was around, I found these basically like arched walkways kind of thing. Oh, that's [957.82] Jack: nice. Yeah. Yeah. Sorry. They have got a name. I just can't think what they're called. [965.58] Koel: Well, it's like a path kind of thing, but I mean, what I want to do, I wanted to learn how to split [972.22] Koel: S to power loop because I was basically doing power loops all the time. But I'm like, wait, [976.7] Koel: I could split S first and then loop around the thing I just split S around. So, uh, basically [982.78] Koel: I did that there. I did the split S and then I figured out, you know, pull back and then [987.02] Koel: get that loop. I sent that one a little bit to the moon. The second one here though, [992.38] Koel: was really close call. Actually, I almost smashed the top of it. You can kind of see like, oh, [996.62] Stephen: there's the roof. Oh yeah. A little bit, a little bit worried when they're glass sided, I have to [1001.58] Koel: say. Yes. I mean, I did it just, just, you know, just enough that you could, I was just inspecting [1010.22] Stephen: the top of the roof. I wonder if the school administrator ever comes back in and like, [1014.14] Stephen: who the hell smashed the side of my walkway? Skyway bridge. Yeah. That sounds about right. [1020.78] Koel: Apparently that's what they're called. Yeah. Yeah. So yeah, once you get the hang of the power, [1028.38] Koel: like I'm, I'm known power loop master or anything, but yeah, it's just a, just practice. [1033.98] Stephen: The Matty flip is kind of easier to judge than a power loop bizarrely, even though it's a bit [1038.54] Stephen: more dangerous. Maybe it's just easier to see where you are. Yeah. Sorry. I just, I just wanted [1045.18] Jack: to know a sky, skyway, sky bridge, skywalk or sky walkway type of headway. Is petway a word? [1058.06] Koel: I mean, in French feet are Pierre, they think so. Headways are elevated or underground walkways, [1069.26] Jack: often connecting urban high rises to each other. Pretty sure that word didn't exist until recently. [1078.7] Jack: This is just people. That's dictionary out. Headway. Yeah. Cold, cold invented a pedway flip. [1087.5] Koel: Yes. I'm the first one to do it. Actually funny enough that when I, when I was at that university, [1094.3] Koel: I only managed to be able to fly one battery and then security pulled up in their little whoop whoop [1100.38] Koel: and they were like, Hey, what are you up to here? It's like, Oh yeah, I'm just lost and my phone's [1105.58] Koel: not working. You didn't say I'm ripping balls. No. And you know, it was, it was a nice lady who [1115.5] Koel: was the, the security. So I just smiled and said, Oh yeah, I'll be on my way. No problem miss. [1120.94] Tony: Good luck, Ryan. Ryan's managed 12 packs at this week over three sessions, very happy and [1126.7] Tony: heading out tomorrow morning at 4am to do a forest cinematic stuff. Fingers crossed. [1133.82] Koel: 4am in the forest. So that sounds, uh, that sounds scary. Sounds like the, like the, like [1140.22] Tony: the synopsis of a horror movie. Right. I think he probably gets off at 4am from work and just [1147.34] Tony: going to go straight out. So yeah, I've got a fly analog again in a month and I haven't flown it [1154.06] Tony: for a long time. Is that cause you're not allowed DJI? Yeah. For racing. I think they've tried it [1161.42] Stephen: before and it just splatters over everyone. So yeah. Yeah. That sounds about right. Speaking [1168.7] Stephen: of the alternative HD zero being out there getting in front of the old fat shark shark [1174.7] Stephen: fat hype machine and releasing the design for their goggles. And, um, they've actually put out [1181.02] Stephen: a 3d model so people can print their own shell and tinker with it and put bits and pieces on [1186.94] Tony: their goggles, which looks kind of cool. So who's jumping on this bandwagon? Any of you guys? [1194.14] Stephen: That's not HD zero. No, that's it. That's the fat shark fat shark. Oh yeah. The, um, [1202.86] Stephen: the hilarious correspondence between the, the guys who made this, who are called walks and [1209.58] Stephen: ale and offshoot of cadex and the fat shark team. Um, they didn't appear to even know Greg at fat [1217.9] Stephen: shark's name and referred to him as gurg and the correspondence they sent out to the whole world. [1223.5] Stephen: So everyone's been calling these gurgles gurgles bardwell bardwell was hyping it hard. He filmed [1236.38] Stephen: parts of that tunnel standing in a pipe, like something out of a nineties music video. It was [1241.1] Stephen: weird. What part was he standing there? He's standing in a sewer pipe. Oh yeah. He just needs [1248.38] Tony: frosting tips and he would be well away. Who's this guy? Um, God, who is that going? So everyone's [1258.78] Stephen: saying he's not DJ, it's not DJI, but they've totally like copied all of the text out of the DJI [1263.98] Stephen: OSD, which gives people the impression it was DJI. So they're trying to make it look comfortable. [1269.34] Stephen: He's back in the fridge, but yeah, the camera looks like a nebula nano. It's absolute pants. [1278.46] Koel: Yeah. Like, well, the one thing that I thought was weird is like, Hey, so, [1282.14] Koel: so let's try to break it down here. It's not DJI. It's walk snail, which is an offshore of cadex. [1291.1] Koel: That's good. Cadex is a, is a partner with DJI. Are they not? So then it's like, it is weird, [1298.22] Stephen: man. I guess everyone's been covering it, but there's some crazy horse trading going on there. [1302.62] Stephen: Yeah. Oh yeah. That interview, uh, that interview was very odd because it's, it went out like this [1310.86] Stephen: is a fat shark product. It's going to be the fat shark goggle. And then the conversation was [1317.98] Stephen: something like the guy from fat shark saying, Oh, we're, we're, we're very lucky to have been part [1323.34] Stephen: of this. Our partners have done all this amazing work. And then this image came out, [1330.14] Stephen: which said walk snail over the top and was an identical set of goggles, [1333.66] Stephen: but in a darker gray instead of a light gray white color. And you've got to think, [1339.98] Stephen: so is this really anything fat shark in there? Maybe they put their diopters in there. [1345.18] Stephen: Apparently the memory cards in the middle of the goggles in an awkward place. And everyone says, [1349.66] Stephen: well, that's fat shark. Cause they, they seem to think that's going to stop you losing the [1353.82] Stephen: micro SD cause it will hit you in the nose instead of on the floor. It does look like the, the, the [1361.42] Koel: actual I, um, wherever the, um, it kind of does have the same circular thing as the HDO twos, right? [1369.5] Stephen: They are a very big set of goggles though. If you look at the height from the, the nose to the other [1374.46] Stephen: side of the face, like that is a fat fat goggle. That is not the size of a normal analog goggle. [1380.7] Stephen: No, normally an analog goggle has a face plate that's taller, a lot taller than the goggle [1386.54] Stephen: that is then in front of it. Whereas that it's all goggle out from the forehead. [1390.86] Tony: That's going to be a chunky pair of goggles. It is. I think you might want to put brotuses, [1397.66] Stephen: is it brotus? I can see from here. Oh yeah. It's Blunty searched, um, for the contact on the [1403.66] Stephen: Walk Snail webpage and instantly found a hit with Google's, uh, with, uh, Cadex is head of PR on [1409.5] Stephen: Google. It's this, it was the same person. It's all a bit weird. Uh, a Walk Snail has appeared [1415.58] Stephen: in some of the Cadex press releases. The, the antennas appear to be made by Walk Snail when [1420.94] Stephen: Cadex released a new type of antenna. Cause they were using the rush FPV cherry ones. And then [1425.74] Stephen: they swapped in some of their own brand and they had the Walk Snail logo. So Walk Snail is not a new [1430.54] Stephen: company. It's been around for a while and it's been dragged into the arena to fulfill this role [1435.58] Koel: by the looks of it. You know, it was kind of funny. Um, so Walk Snail on site was, was live for a bit. [1442.22] Koel: Then it was like, you know, taken down or password protected. And I basically just tried to type in [1448.38] Koel: Walk Snail and it, it worked. The password was literally Walk Snail. So it was like, [1452.46] Stephen: you and thousands of other people guessed that password. Correct. First time. So, uh, [1457.42] Stephen: back to the story that walks now put out a product with called the avatar HD goggle. And it appears [1464.3] Stephen: that fat shark are basically using their name to relabel this product and sell it to the American [1470.14] Stephen: market where they've got brand recognition, which makes sense. It's what you do. If you [1475.1] Stephen: got a name and you want to sell a product, you quickly slap a label on it that people recognize [1481.34] Stephen: and you know, you, you get instant sales. It happens all the time, right? A lot of board [1486.38] Stephen: vendors do it in FPV. A lot of other people, you know, a multitude of products are made by someone [1494.06] Stephen: else and then sold under a different name simply to get people on board. So it's not out of the [1499.5] Stephen: ordinary, but it, it's the first time that fat sharks done it. And it maybe feels like [1504.94] Stephen: the big release was a little bit disingenuous because the release went out as it being a fat [1510.86] Stephen: shark product. And the more scrutiny that it's put under, the more it appears to not be a fat [1517.58] Stephen: shark product. And there was an opportunity there to talk about it. And fat shark kind of [1524.22] Stephen: just stared every, stared the camera in the lens and decided not to talk about it. It not helped [1529.9] Stephen: by the fact that Gerg there did an interview that was quite lengthy and spent a long time [1536.22] Stephen: skirting around issues. If it had been a two minute talk and he just said, we got a goggle. [1541.82] Stephen: It's great. It's excellent. It's going to be on sale at this date for this much. Give it a go. [1547.02] Stephen: That would have been fine. Yeah. But he kind of was given enough time, unfortunately, to kind of [1553.1] Stephen: pause and look a bit awkward on the subject. Yeah. Which is a shame. Well, he should have hired a PR [1559.18] Stephen: person for that interview. But yeah, he is maybe someone that perhaps is a great engineer, but [1565.74] Stephen: could delegate the camera duties to other people. I work with a lot of people in that bracket. [1573.42] Koel: Well, it was a bit weird. At the same time, though, I mean, it's this new brand new innovative [1578.38] Koel: product. He probably wants, you know, he wants to say something about it and have his face on it. [1584.22] Stephen: So makes sense. Yeah. It felt like I don't know how long we're preparing for the release, [1591.26] Stephen: but it felt like that conversation went out cold with Adlib. And if there had been even a [1597.74] Stephen: him sheet to read from it would have been so much better. There was just a lot of awkwardness. [1604.78] Stephen: Yeah. And you know, I work with techies who do presentations in front of audiences and getting [1608.86] Stephen: some computer nerd up on stage and giving them a microphone. You get a lot of deer in the headlights. [1613.34] Stephen: Right. Yeah. A lot of. It almost seems like something and get them to read it a few times, [1621.1] Koel: beforehand. Most people can do it. It almost seemed like he was having a conversation with [1627.02] Koel: JB, but it was almost like he was looking through JB or past him or something. It was [1632.54] Koel: it's probably done separately. AI or just like, yeah, I've blended it in. [1639.9] Tony: Smoke the mirrors. [1641.1] Jack: It was probably in Amad by JB's new 90s boy band style and just couldn't get past it. [1653.34] Jack: Yeah. Angsty JB was too much for him. [1656.7] Jack: I know. I know JB has got some serious swagger nowadays. I don't know where it's come from. [1664.86] Jack: Swagger and sandals, though. It's an odd combination. [1667.42] Jack: He's become, oh, Jesus, God, God, and you know, JB was born a lamb, but it's been reborn as a lion [1679.02] Stephen: on the health of the era. And definitely grown into this kind of role as FPV mouthpiece. [1685.58] Stephen: He's not bad at it at all. Yeah. [1688.78] Stephen: He was spitting out five years ago to what he's doing now. It's definitely a different guy. [1693.34] Jack: Oh, yeah. Yeah, much more confident. [1695.82] Jack: It must it must have been flow state. That's the only thing I can think of. [1701.5] Frank: This episode was recorded in front of a live online audience, downloaded and edited to make [1706.06] Frank: sense when it played audio only sensors to please the iTunes people hosted on the internet, [1711.1] Frank: forwarded through to your podcast provider, downloaded playing on your device and is now [1715.42] Frank: playing in your ears. [1726.78] Tony: Carolyn Tyler in the chat. There you go. Yeah. Anyone talking about the indoor FPV from DJI? [1733.5] Koel: Yeah, I did see that actually. I have seen renders of it. [1739.1] Koel: Yeah, the sort of black whoop style kind of thing with a gimbal on it. Yeah. [1744.38] Tony: Yeah, it looks like a little scene. [1747.26] Koel: Yeah, apparently no acro mode, though, which is odd. [1750.3] Tony: Well, I think they're going to try to get, well, it's, you know, it's trying to get [1755.98] Tony: more people into doing it, I suppose. So make it fly easy. [1761.74] Koel: Get the Mavic users on a type of or whatever. Yeah, buy some goggles. [1768.46] Stephen: Yeah, fly this. Did you see the actual layout of that new DJI drone? Because it looked well [1775.1] Stephen: confusing to me that the cine whoop one. Do we have a picture of that to hand the one that was [1781.02] Koel: actually also called avatar confusing? Wasn't it or was it a real thing? There's an actual picture [1786.46] Stephen: of one. It's like a top down shot. And if you look at it, it's really confusing. It's got very small [1792.3] Stephen: props. And there's a battery on top. And the battery overhangs like a third of the prop line. [1798.3] Stephen: It's just a really weird design. DJI avatar or something. [1804.86] Stephen: It's like a DJI Avida. I don't know who designed it, but they're throwing away like a third of [1810.86] Stephen: their disc area. You see a third of the disc area is just covered by the center of the frame. [1822.46] Tony: It's got a downward facing sensors to keep it two foot off the floor and all that. [1829.26] Tony: And maybe it'll probably be good knowing DJI. [1832.78] Koel: Yeah, it'll be good no matter why. And it'll get all the Mavic guys that want to do, you know, [1837.18] Koel: the fly throughs or the, you know, any indoor stuff. Yeah, I'm sure it'll be cool. [1845.26] Stephen: It's just weird. When you look at it, and you can see right, there's performance that they've left [1849.26] Stephen: on the table. Like, why didn't they just make it two inches wider and actually use all of the prop [1855.18] Tony: area? It's nuts. That is barely gonna fly. It's gonna be like a brick. I think it'll be good. [1863.26] Koel: Yeah, it'll probably fly really well, really. Anything by DJI. [1867.98] Tony: It's fly at times. [1869.9] Stephen: Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Well, yeah, but it's not going to be like a cine whip. You're not going to be [1875.5] Stephen: able to punch it and do anything acrobatic to surprise the viewer. It's going to be tracking [1880.54] Koel: shots. Well, you can see it even. Okay, so you see on the right, the bottom right, [1886.7] Koel: that's where the gimbal is. You can see where the camera gimbal is. It almost looks like the [1890.86] Tony: little grill right there. You think there's a big gimbal on it as well? [1897.82] Koel: Yeah, it'll probably, I'm assuming, and this is a guess, that it's going to be a two-axis gimbal, [1902.78] Stephen: I think. It doesn't look like there's room for another. I can see how they get one axis, [1908.46] Stephen: but side to side, it looks really limited. Oh, you mean tilt? [1912.38] Tony: Yeah, they might have took that gimbal off the new Mini 3. [1920.78] Jack: That is some crazy serial number-ness there as well. Look at all the QR codes. [1926.86] Stephen: Yeah, I did wonder if somebody didn't block that out before they uploaded it. [1932.7] Stephen: Yeah, whoever leaked that is in the sh** now. [1937.34] Tony: Yeah, we gave you number 775-1-1-1-1. Yeah. [1942.22] Tony: It's Photoshop, they just put it there. Look, Caroline's pointing out it says one-axis gimbal [1947.34] Tony: says so in the text, but we don't believe everything we've read. [1952.7] Stephen: You can probably do a certain amount of stabilisation just in electronic without a gimbal. [1959.34] Tony: Yeah, some of it. [1961.5] Koel: Well, if you look at any of the new GoPros, what they can do, they're amazing. The 10 [1966.94] Tony: that I wear on my chest going down the mountain bike, and it's just... [1971.18] Koel: Rock-solid. Yeah. [1973.1] Koel: Just like... [1973.82] Jack: Big old tensile, you know, for all the jiggly. [1978.38] Koel: Well, isn't there a thing where you can go a certain amount of degrees and it still looks [1981.98] Koel: like it's level, right? Yeah. [1984.3] Stephen: So, is anyone interested in the V3 goggle, or are you just annoyed that DJI would even [1991.58] Stephen: release something when they've already got a product out of the market? [1996.38] Koel: I mean, I'm an HDL analog boy, so I don't know. [2003.9] Tony: Well, I got the DJI V1 goggles and I won't probably buy anything for another year or two. [2012.3] Koel: Yeah. [2012.62] Tony: I'll just keep rocking them. I mean, the blades of grass are amazing. [2018.86] Stephen: So, we got zero people going for DJI V3. How many people are interested in this fat shark, [2025.74] Stephen: avatar, whatever it is thing, walks around? [2027.74] Tony: I'm interested, but I probably won't do that for another year or two either. [2031.98] Stephen: Well, there was... [2033.9] Stephen: Hang on a minute. And then the last one, HD0, anyone interested in that? [2038.3] Tony: Not at all. [2040.14] Stephen: Zero, almost negative interest from Tony there. [2042.78] Jack: Well, it's... I mean, you really need to ask that question when Curry's here, [2049.1] Jack: because he's the one dealing with it. And all I hear is just... I don't know whether it's, [2055.18] Jack: you know, like Curry's stories or like hearing how he deals with the problems, [2063.26] Jack: but he's got like the whole ribbon cable thing. [2066.46] Stephen: HD0, not open HD. HD0, the one that Carlisle's doing. [2073.42] Tony: I mean, I think it's going to be for... the racers are going to love it. [2077.58] Stephen: Released a new set of goggles. That's what I was saying, Jack, that the new goggles that [2081.42] Stephen: came out this week where they released the 3D printed shell and they're going to open source [2085.42] Stephen: all the hardware design for it. That's HD0, which is just like an HDMI relay. [2091.1] Stephen: It's not a compressed stream, really. Well, kind of a lossy compression, I guess. [2097.34] Stephen: And it looks kind of low res and a bit fuzzy, but it sticks into the raceband channels. [2103.18] Tony: I've seen racers flying it and it looks good, but I mean, I bought the... [2110.54] Tony: Oh, what did I buy? What did I buy? What made it look really good, Jack? [2115.1] Tony: Jack, what was that thing we all bought? What I bought at the racer? [2120.38] Jack: Oh, no, Clearview. [2123.18] Tony: It kind of looks the same as that to me, because running analog Clearview [2131.82] Tony: was absolutely brilliant at races. I had no static, no nothing. It was perfect, all the whole lap. [2139.34] Tony: So that's what it looks like to me when they're flying it. Maybe a little bit better. [2143.82] Jack: Was Clearview better than Rapidfire? [2148.3] Tony: Yeah, Clearview, I think, was absolutely brilliant. [2152.06] Stephen: When they were using the same chip under the hood. [2154.38] Tony: They were expensive. I've paid four... I don't even know where it is. [2157.98] Tony: And I paid for like 400 and something, I quit for that. But when I was racing, it was brilliant. [2166.62] Tony: Two antennas, one point in that bit of track, one point in that bit of track. Well, good. [2172.86] Tony: And then on a stand next to me. [2175.74] Tony: Nice. [2176.46] Tony: Yeah, I loved it. I did use it with my X-Class once and it was really good. And then I lost [2185.98] Tony: visual and literally had to take my goggles off. Look behind me, I was going around an oval track [2191.82] Tony: at mine. [2192.46] Tony: Oh, right. You're on patches. [2193.98] Tony: Hover it and just put it down. And I've never, ever used it since. [2200.06] Stephen: Was that because you had two patches? [2203.18] Tony: I don't know what happened. My screen went blank, black. It's done it twice. [2210.22] Tony: Done it once while I was racing and once with the X-Class. And I just never trusted it on [2214.86] Tony: the X-Class again. I've always just flown my goggles with the X-Class. Never out of any [2221.26] Tony: issues with that. But yeah, I really like that system. It was really good. [2228.14] Tony: And if I ever fly analog again, I doubt I'll ever race again. [2235.82] Tony: Yeah, that was the best. [2238.46] Jack: Was there any way to update that? [2242.38] Tony: I think you did get a lead that you could update it with, [2245.26] Tony: but I don't think there was any. [2247.26] Stephen: Is it just not supported anymore? Has the company gone under or something? [2250.38] Tony: I don't know. [2252.14] Tony: I don't know. [2253.5] Tony: I've done a race version of it. [2257.98] Stephen: So the product and the company are called Clearview. [2262.62] Tony: Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's just something, something clear. [2264.94] Stephen: I must have. I've got a rapid fire and I just never bothered to dig it out. [2268.46] Stephen: I always use the module that's in the sky zones. It's just fine. [2273.1] Stephen: I think the rapid fire is maybe a fraction better at times, [2276.78] Stephen: but the interface on the rapid fire completely sucks. I'm just not interested in using it. [2281.66] Tony: Yeah, same as me. It's nothing to bloody remember, isn't it? [2286.54] Koel: Yeah. Well, I went from having a true D module to the TBS fusion and I like the fusion. [2294.94] Stephen: Yeah, I was going to say is when you change channel on the [2298.22] Stephen: immersion, I'll see it goes completely black and that just irritates me like to get the menu up [2304.14] Stephen: instead of seeing the menu in front of the video stream, it just gives you a black screen with the [2308.14] Stephen: menu. But on the sky zones, the menu is just overlaid on the video. If you use the native module, [2314.38] Stephen: it's so much nicer. [2316.7] Tony: Are they still for sale, Jack? [2319.1] Tony: I don't know. [2322.94] Tony: Far right. That was the first one that came out about five years ago, I believe. [2327.98] Jack: Please allow seven to 10 business days for shipments of new orders. [2333.18] Jack: I paid $509. [2334.94] Tony: Yeah, it's about 400 quid. It's not changed. [2338.7] Jack: What is the price of that? That doesn't matter. [2339.74] Tony: Anyone want to buy Cleaview from there? [2344.22] Koel: Five hundred and four pounds. [2347.9] Jack: I think that's Thomas, isn't it? [2349.74] Koel: That looks like Thomas, yeah. [2352.86] Jack: Look at the unit. [2354.54] Koel: Oh, that's massive, isn't it? [2357.02] Stephen: Is that what you're using, Tone? [2358.3] Tony: No, no, I think that's Apache's put on there. [2361.74] Stephen: I think it's that one. [2365.9] Stephen: The picture of the Cleaview said it showed this thing with a plug on each side. [2369.98] Stephen: It didn't look like a Google module. It looked like a tripod. [2374.38] Tony: Yeah, it's for a tripod. [2374.94] Stephen: Oh, wow. [2376.86] Jack: That's too much. [2377.58] Tony: Yeah, just one patch that way all night. [2379.74] Jack: Raw video out. No condom. [2383.02] Jack: AV1, AV2. [2385.34] Koel: You sicko. [2388.06] Jack: And turn the left and right. [2389.74] Jack: Well, you know, channel menu power digitally enhanced. [2397.26] Jack: It was going to know for her pleasure. [2403.18] Stephen: I'm quite keen on HD zero to replace all this. [2406.94] Stephen: It's 1980s tech, isn't it? [2409.1] Tony: It is old tech, but it worked really well. [2411.74] Tony: Oh, my God. [2412.46] Jack: It loads like a 90s website. [2415.5] Stephen: HD zero is Spanx analog in most ways, except for edge sharpening. [2422.3] Stephen: For some reason that they don't have the edge sharpening quite as good as analog. [2426.14] Stephen: Analog gets really nice crispy edge sharpening, which HD zero doesn't quite do. [2430.7] Jack: We've added an OLED screen. [2434.78] Jack: You've got a jog wheel and you can run it off a 6S lipo. [2440.46] Jack: Cleaview 2.0. [2441.66] Stephen: Who goes Tron out to a little fly and takes a tripod with them, though? [2447.18] Tony: I mean, it was for races. [2449.74] Tony: I mean, that's his right. [2451.98] Jack: It was it was back in the day. [2453.9] Jack: That's what it was like. [2455.5] Tony: If you're going on a track five years ago. [2459.02] Tony: No, having that and seeing where it is all that all the time. [2463.9] Stephen: Yeah, I guess five years ago. [2466.62] Stephen: She wants. [2467.18] Stephen: I'm sure they all have the same chip in them, though, [2469.26] Stephen: that the whole sync reconstruction thing. [2471.42] Stephen: It's got to the point where TBS fusion and rapid fire are pretty much identical. [2476.06] Stephen: And there's nowhere to go. [2477.98] Stephen: Like all the improvements that could possibly be made have been made. [2481.18] Stephen: I'm sure someone designing a completely new analog circuit from the ground up. [2485.18] Stephen: There's nothing. [2485.98] Tony: I'll bring out the next time we have an LDO meet and plug it in another. [2491.82] Tony: It is really, really good. [2493.5] Jack: The other benefit of this was when it was attached to a tripod, [2498.3] Jack: you could use it to beat the dinosaurs off with. [2501.5] Jack: When Tony was flying, you know, it was like, [2506.14] Jack: why are you? [2510.78] Jack: Hang on. [2511.5] Jack: Clearview 309 pounds to three hundred and nineteen dollars bargain. [2518.86] Jack: No, no expense. [2524.38] Stephen: Does that include the tripod? [2526.78] Stephen: No, does that get your butler to hold it? [2529.34] Jack: Yeah, I should dress up in a butler suit and hold it for Tony. [2536.94] Jack: Fifteen degrees left, Jeeves. [2540.54] Jack: And I proved those stickers, by the way, of, you know, [2545.1] Jack: I live my life on life at the time. [2548.06] Jack: So if you want one of those Tony stickers, you've got to buy a you've got to buy an LED board. [2555.82] Jack: Um, how did you chat to Mike at hobby RC? [2559.1] Jack: Because he's he's ignored my please for listing my LED boards. [2567.5] Stephen: So there's a couple of things I did. [2569.66] Stephen: One, I'm not Jack. [2572.78] Jack: Not my help. [2574.7] Jack: The top from LDO. [2578.14] Stephen: Sorry, I've no idea. [2579.74] Stephen: I just asked nicely. [2580.86] Stephen: Probably because it was about the same time as I placed an order. [2584.06] Stephen: They give him money. [2588.14] Jack: Maybe I need to, like, buy something. [2590.38] Jack: I more stuff. [2592.46] Tony: Well, I've got to put in an order. [2593.9] Tony: You can do it for me. [2595.26] Tony: And then, um, yeah, try that one. [2600.78] Koel: Like, hey, I'm buying some stuff and he want to sell some of my stuff. [2603.74] Stephen: Yeah, I mean, why not just Ed see it, Jack? [2607.02] Stephen: Is it too much hassle? [2609.42] Jack: Yeah, you get weird people who just want stickers of cats. [2614.94] Stephen: And but you've made stickers of cats. [2619.02] Jack: Not not anymore. [2620.86] Jack: It looks more my new my new cat copyright free cat design looks more like a squirrel. [2627.02] Jack: Can we see it? [2627.74] Jack: I haven't seen it. [2628.54] Jack: Yeah, yeah, yeah, you can hang on. [2631.1] Tony: Did you get told off having your little cat thing? [2633.98] Jack: No, no, it's like what what was worse was, um, what like I updated the design. [2644.14] Jack: And, um, and then, uh, the worst part was that they tried to then it's quite like quite [2656.94] Stephen: catish. [2657.98] Stephen: It's got a lot fatter. [2659.34] Stephen: It used to be a pyramid shaped cat. [2661.02] Stephen: Now it's definitely quite doughy around the middle. [2663.9] Jack: Yeah, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm a pretty fat cat myself. [2668.22] Koel: I like that you can actually see the fluffiness. [2671.9] Jack: I'm very fluffy. [2674.78] Jack: No comment. [2675.42] Jack: No stick, no stick, Caroline is at 12 pounds with a free led board. [2685.02] Jack: I think I'd make more money if I did that. [2687.58] Jack: I wanted stickers of cats and I've got a piece of circuitry. [2692.06] Jack: The new one is more hairy. [2694.14] Jack: Just like real life. [2695.66] Tony: Jack is a hairy bass. [2696.94] Tony: That's why his other nickname is the Yeti. [2699.82] Jack: Yeah. [2700.22] Jack: Gone a bit Garfield. [2702.38] Jack: Garfield. [2702.94] Jack: Oh, okay. [2704.22] Jack: Well, it's not. [2704.78] Jack: Oh God. [2705.18] Jack: Can you imagine if they accuse me of copyright in Garfield now? [2709.34] Jack: So I've, I've basically got to spend my life going through all my images and everything and [2718.3] Jack: re re-uploading the empire of dirt's falling apart. [2725.98] Jack: I can't move. [2727.02] Stephen: Or there's going to be a cursed radio. [2732.06] Stephen: No way. [2733.58] Stephen: This, this curve. [2734.78] Stephen: It's big in Steven. [2735.9] Koel: Oh, the late radio tree. [2738.22] Koel: Yeah. [2738.46] Koel: It looks like a lump of shh. [2743.74] Koel: Shiza. [2745.34] Jack: Right. [2745.66] Jack: So you're turning it on the OLED. [2747.74] Koel: So that's the TBS. [2749.42] Stephen: The OLED is super bright and doesn't want to focus here because reasons. [2753.82] Stephen: Yeah, that's fine. [2755.98] Stephen: Anyway, the OLED looks cool. [2757.74] Stephen: That the radio itself is a little bit tricksy, a little bit concerning. [2761.66] Stephen: I don't think I'm going to be flying many quads on this. [2763.98] Tony: Is that a toy? [2766.06] Tony: Who is it? [2766.38] Stephen: Yeah, pretty much. [2767.82] Stephen: It runs on TX and it's got an OLED and it's got express LRS inside. [2771.9] Stephen: So it's a capable-ish radio. [2775.42] Stephen: It's got quite a nice gimbal protectors. [2777.26] Stephen: Well, these are rubber. [2778.38] Stephen: So it's got a couple of, they're all right. [2781.34] Stephen: They're the same as you get on other small radios. [2783.66] Stephen: There's the hall sensor, but they're a little bit loose and I had to fart around with attention [2788.62] Stephen: as a lot when I got it. [2790.46] Stephen: The weirdest thing though is check these, check these out, look at these puppies. [2795.34] Stephen: It's got push button switches. [2797.02] Stephen: I know the trouble is they don't engage and disengage in the middle of the throw. [2802.54] Stephen: It's right at the end. [2803.82] Stephen: So if you just tap it, it changes state, the tiniest bit. [2808.7] Stephen: So you go, if you just nudge it, it'll arm or if you've got it the other way around, [2813.82] Stephen: you just nudge it and it disarms. [2815.98] Stephen: And so I've had to put them as sticky logical switches because otherwise they're just like [2820.62] Stephen: hair triggers and they're useless because most two-paws, they go in the middle of the throw. [2826.14] Stephen: They change state, not just when you like nudge them a tiny half a millimeter. [2831.74] Stephen: The ones at the top are not too bad actually, like three-paws rockers, [2834.94] Stephen: but the two positions are kind of like nightmare death traps really. [2839.82] Tony: Is that a cheap one for beginners or something? [2842.78] Stephen: I think 74 quid, quite cheap radio really. [2849.34] Stephen: Don't get me wrong. [2850.3] Stephen: It's nice and on a simulator, this is perfect because it's got [2854.38] Stephen: Express LRS with a built-in Bluetooth. [2857.18] Stephen: So it's a Bluetooth gamepad that also has USB if you don't have Bluetooth. [2863.18] Stephen: And you can use it to fly your whoops and smaller quads. [2866.38] Stephen: But when flying something big, the behavior of these two position switches [2870.62] Stephen: is a bit of an anxiety-provoking feature. [2876.86] Koel: My first radio was the Light Radio 2 SE, so the version before that one. [2882.54] Koel: And I just used it for the SIM. [2885.98] Koel: And I don't know, the gimbals seemed really janky on them. [2890.94] Koel: And it just seemed cheap. [2893.42] Koel: I don't know. [2895.66] Koel: Again, it was only like 50 bucks. [2899.18] Koel: What do you expect, right? [2900.54] Koel: I've charged a bit more for that one. [2902.38] Stephen: I did open it up and I put a load of lithium grease on the gimbals, which helped a bit. [2906.62] Stephen: But I had to kind of mess around with the gimbal tensioning for a while before they felt good. [2912.3] Tony: It looks a lot for a beginner's radio or whatever. [2916.62] Koel: Yeah, for a starter. [2917.74] Koel: Yeah, it's great. [2918.7] Tony: Quite nice, but just not nice. [2922.06] Stephen: The trouble is that I wanted something to experiment with, that's fine. [2925.1] Stephen: But the Zorro's originally released at about 75 quid, the same as that. [2929.34] Stephen: The Zorro now is 110, 120. [2932.38] Stephen: It's been so popular, the prices shot up. [2935.34] Stephen: Wow. [2936.62] Stephen: Yeah, the other thing is that the beta FPV curse is that they're terrible at software. [2941.02] Stephen: Like, they just can't get their act together. [2943.42] Stephen: So they knew they were going to be releasing this for ages, but they released it without [2948.14] Stephen: any code in Express LRS or HTX, which ordinarily wouldn't be that big of a deal. [2953.74] Stephen: But to bind with Express LRS, you've got to compile it with your own passphrase in. [2958.54] Stephen: And so when the radio came out, you couldn't actually bind it to anything. [2962.62] Stephen: I had to actually go chasing around and ask people, do you have a pull request? [2967.58] Stephen: Is there a branch that I can get to build the code for this radio myself so I can put my passphrase in? [2973.74] Stephen: And I had to go and find people's branches, ask them if they could please do a pull request [2977.98] Stephen: so I can clone the PR. [2979.66] Stephen: And I'm there using Git on the command line just to get this radio to work. [2984.06] Stephen: So a bit of a pain in the bottom, to be honest. [2986.94] Stephen: And the HTX code has just landed and is going through a review. [2990.62] Stephen: And it looks like the first thing is, why are all these spaces here? [2994.06] Stephen: Why are you doing this? [2994.94] Stephen: This shouldn't be in this PR. [2995.98] Stephen: This should be in another PR. [2996.94] Stephen: It's just quite rough code. [2999.58] Stephen: And, you know, B2F PV basically got me into this hobby because they were there on Amazon. [3004.7] Stephen: They did a load of beginner kit. [3006.38] Stephen: And I could fly something and just next day prime things to feed my growing addiction. [3012.14] Stephen: But when it comes to software, they are well behind the curve for whatever reason. [3021.1] Jack: All right, guys. [3021.82] Jack: Well, that is all we've got time for.
