[0.0] Jack: Hello and you're listening to let's drone out and special
[4.2] Jack: thank you to our lovely patrons that help donate so that we can
[8.36] Jack: pay the editor to remove the swear words and silly things we
[11.6] Jack: say massive thank you to Carlos campos art folk now Sam
[18.58] Koel: Dharma on with the show.
[51.88] Jack: Hello and welcome back you're listening to let's turn out
[56.56] Jack: tonight you're joined by everyone's favorite curry kitten.
[59.52] Jack: Hello.
[61.04] Jack: The man who does excellent thumbnails for buddy Cole.
[65.52] Jack: See you in a week.
[68.52] Jack: Your ass is mine. Not that I'll be able to do anything with it.
[74.08] Jack: And the guy who's been sailing the ship Steven.
[78.96] Jack: Cheers everyone.
[81.04] Jack: Our favorite liability and personal friend of mine and the
[88.4] AndyRC: RC yes hello everybody hello good to be here just to make
[95.88] Jack: Andy look good I'm gonna say I don't know what what's our
[101.84] Jack: horrendous thing I can say this I was gonna I was gonna go more
[105.44] Stephen: of a blow fell through it with Frank with his new setup here
[108.6] Stephen: that's the sort of vibe I'm backing up.
[110.44] AndyRC: Yeah, yeah.
[113.48] AndyRC: Looks like he's in some sort of the only thing missing the
[117.6] AndyRC: only thing's missing is like the arms and the in the thing you
[122.16] AndyRC: know,
[122.76] AndyRC: I was right.
[126.96] Curry: This is the big reveal to everybody watching Frank hasn't
[129.72] Curry: been here because he's been in rehab but rehab and given in
[132.44] Curry: the internet and he can join us tonight.
[134.96] Jack: Yeah, that's why Frank Hello Frank you haven't shaved
[138.6] Jack: because they won't let you have raises.
[140.92] Frank: Yeah, sharp things bad idea.
[144.52] Jack: Yeah, I hear that you've changed your mind. You're going to
[150.52] Jack: prop fest.
[152.88] Jack: prop fest.
[154.36] Curry: Is that the same as drone fest?
[156.52] Curry: Yeah, well, is that the same as FPV drone fest?
[159.36] Curry: I was gonna say
[160.68] Koel: Insta360 FPV drone fest.
[167.28] Jack: And I'm bright until I fly and I'm sure this job.
[172.48] Frank: All right, it doesn't pay so it's not a job.
[175.16] Jack: Yeah, true. Um, welcome back, Jack. But Frank, I hear that
[180.24] Jack: you've got an FPV drone up and running.
[183.36] Frank: What?
[184.36] Frank: I literally flew for 20 seconds because that was, you know, the
[189.72] Frank: bare minimum. Yeah, I couldn't come back on the show until at
[192.92] Frank: least flown something. So I have flown something is my I've gone
[200.04] Frank: through like, all my wings, all my quads. And like there was
[204.6] Frank: something wrong with everything. And I've ended up doing the bare
[209.48] Frank: minimum to get my baby Hawk are flying, which was rebind the
[215.48] Frank: receiver. And that's that was that was the lowest hanging
[218.92] Frank: fruit for me to actually get something back up in the air. So
[223.36] Frank: yes, I have flown something.
[225.56] Frank: Well done.
[226.36] AndyRC: That's awesome.
[228.08] Jack: Round of applause for Frank.
[231.96] Curry: Going nicely.
[233.28] Curry: And just to put it this is not easy rebinding. This is the
[236.08] Curry: rebinding we'd have to press the button and plug something in at
[238.76] Curry: the same time. So let's not let's not minimize this this
[242.64] Stephen: no, no, I didn't know who clicked off the time you had to
[247.72] Stephen: couldn't even really feel it move. Yeah, that's the one that
[250.88] AndyRC: is the one you didn't know if you were destroying the entire
[254.64] Stephen: circuit board or just chipped a capacitor off or was that the
[259.08] Stephen: button clicking?
[262.68] Jack: And if you powered it on, and then left it a bit and then press
[267.48] Jack: the button, you'd set the fail safe to whatever your transmitter
[271.64] Jack: was doing at the time. As well, it was the deadly D8 mode.
[277.28] Frank: The other thing I did have to do, I found out, for some reason,
[281.4] Frank: I thought the accelerometer would just like reset every time
[284.28] Frank: you start it up. I thought that was how accelerometers work and
[287.72] Frank: stuff, but apparently not.
[291.0] Stephen: So the gyro calibrates when you start up, but the accelerometer
[295.92] Stephen: measures your deviation.
[298.8] Frank: I mean, so it must, yeah, it must have been a, yeah, I only
[305.08] Frank: generally because it was a like drifting a lot to the point
[309.28] Frank: where, like, as soon as I owned it, like, it was just going
[314.44] Frank: enough.
[314.84] Stephen: And in our career, are you flying? Are you flying angle
[318.04] Stephen: mode? Is this a tacit mission that you're flying angle mode,
[320.88] Stephen: Frank?
[321.8] Frank: This was flying an angle bow did my living room, which is the
[324.96] Frank: only room I have. It is this room. So yeah, not to say it was
[329.92] AndyRC: a duration.
[330.88] Stephen: Yeah, just put it on my flat, which is difficult when you've
[333.8] Stephen: got ones where the plug goes in the bottom and you have to sort
[336.24] Stephen: of like, but I did it on the edge of a desk.
[339.0] Frank: But I also worked out the when I last flew it at some point, I'd
[344.48] Frank: had the same problem was trying to solve it with like six
[348.2] Frank: commands. And I just put it into like profile two, or some other
[352.84] Frank: profile, and just absolutely screwed everything up. Like,
[356.52] Frank: why is this playing separately? This doesn't seem right at all.
[360.52] Frank: And then set it back to back to profile one, and everything was
[366.08] Frank: fine again. So I've, I've solved lots of problems. I mean, my
[370.08] Frank: radio didn't turn on when I first got back storage. But
[373.4] Frank: that's just because it was, you know, very, very flat and
[376.96] Frank: but it's that solved my goggles, what did I have to do with my
[382.96] Frank: goggles? I had to like, re like, because it's like diversity,
[388.52] Frank: you know, VRX module, and I had to recalibrate those because
[393.36] Frank: they were like, doing weird things, recalibrate them. They're
[397.04] Frank: happy now. Yeah.
[398.44] AndyRC: Is that the fat sharks that have always been a bit weird? Or is
[402.24] AndyRC: that something else? Did you add?
[404.08] Jack: No, that's the module.
[406.2] AndyRC: Oh, I remember you had a pair of fat sharks that just never
[409.64] AndyRC: behaved. I wondered if it was those.
[412.4] Jack: Yeah, I think that was because of the power cable, wasn't it?
[415.4] Jack: The
[415.88] Frank: Oh, yeah, that was the the power lead. Yeah, that's not going to
[421.12] Frank: that fast. That's like that is still in existence somewhere in
[425.28] Frank: one of the piles of stuff. But
[427.56] AndyRC: what goggles are you using then?
[429.56] Frank: I still have fat shark dominate. I don't know what they are.
[435.64] Frank: Oh, the latest one.
[438.36] AndyRC: HD.
[441.76] AndyRC: The latest one.
[443.48] Jack: Well, yeah, yeah, they're great. You know, they got a great
[446.44] Jack: sticker.
[447.84] Stephen: Yeah, like everything else.
[450.56] Frank: There's one. So the ones I got off the channel for throw in
[455.76] Frank: 2018. So there you go.
[459.2] AndyRC: I think they might be the dominator. Where they call the
[464.52] AndyRC: V threes.
[465.6] AndyRC: Yeah.
[465.96] AndyRC: Yeah, V threes.
[467.12] Curry: Yeah, now I got the V threes. Frank definitely had newer ones
[470.12] Curry: than me when you're on that show. You had something else. Sure.
[473.32] AndyRC: V three. Cool.
[474.96] AndyRC: They've got the they've got the they've got the blue top, haven't
[477.72] AndyRC: they? And I'm sure
[478.84] AndyRC: they're going to get them without without help.
[483.6] AndyRC: Well, in the meantime, I'll just I'll tell you what Frank is
[488.92] Stephen: reading for his box of stuff, because I've managed to hit my
[491.8] Stephen: finger and get blood everywhere. So this week, I learned how to
[496.24] Stephen: do to switch pre arm on deviation TX. It's basically
[501.92] Stephen: like doing a logical switch, a sticky logical switch in open
[505.56] Stephen: TX. But I did it in deviation TX, which was way harder than
[508.72] Stephen: open TX and required three different mixes and two virtual
[512.4] Stephen: channels. And I just ended up randomly inverting things until
[516.68] Stephen: it got the desired result. But we got there.
[518.28] AndyRC: Oh, there we go. That's the HD HD three, right?
[523.64] Jack: And they're great.
[525.96] AndyRC: Well, look at those menace Santana's man. Yeah, two
[529.64] Curry: patches, two patches.
[532.68] Curry: Kitchen.
[534.12] Curry: Yeah, exactly.
[536.68] Curry: And didn't you post a picture of your table and there was a
[539.84] Curry: wing on it with some and it looked like a very poor effort
[542.84] Curry: because it was a whole wing and then there was just a lipo sort
[545.28] Curry: of placed vaguely on it like the alcohol for that eventually.
[548.6] Frank: Well, I was, you know, checking that it was all going to balance
[551.32] Frank: all right.
[552.36] Frank: Go easy on testing the CG. That was the level of he's a very
[557.6] Jack: fragile stage. We've been making progress. He's in recovery.
[563.16] Jack: This is a safe space.
[567.64] Frank: Having thrown everything into storage in February, March,
[573.8] Frank: whenever that was, I didn't really start it. So now I like
[580.0] Frank: grab a bag and like, Oh, this will be everything that I need
[582.92] Frank: to do this. And it's not everything I need to do that.
[586.68] Stephen: You've got like one and a half quads and half a bag. Yeah.
[591.32] Stephen: Yeah, I had 30 working models, but now I'm going to have 10.
[595.92] Stephen: And there's like a sample of the parts.
[598.28] Frank: There's like the solder station and like the sponge and the
[603.48] Frank: like resin and all that kind of stuff all in one bag, but the
[608.32] Frank: actual solder itself completely different box somewhere else.
[613.48] Frank: So yeah, there's been a lot of like getting, you know, 50%
[618.2] Frank: through a thing and then having to go dive through another bag
[622.52] Frank: of stuff and empty that and go through everything. And then of
[625.0] Frank: course, I get distracted by something else and go, Oh, this
[627.28] Frank: would be a much better way of doing that. And then you got to
[630.2] Stephen: the point where there's actual storage for this stuff to go into
[633.04] Stephen: or is it just in piles on the floor still?
[636.48] Frank: It is in various Ikea bags. There's a lot of Ikea bags.
[642.92] AndyRC: So we're getting the best view that you could possibly get.
[648.8] Frank: Yeah, this is so tight.
[651.24] Frank: No, we were in a wall that is well painted. There's like
[656.52] Frank: getting the impression my plate stops like six inches either side
[659.76] Frank: of the crop.
[660.36] Frank: Yeah, I can't move the camera at all. But there you go. But it's
[666.56] Frank: you know, the flat is almost weather tight. It's usually got
[672.44] Frank: power. The water often turns on and sometimes turns off. So you
[678.96] Frank: know, it's, it's going well on got internet obviously, the
[684.32] Frank: greatest success.
[686.16] Stephen: Wonderful. Yeah. Yeah. For those for those of you who didn't
[691.72] Stephen: know, Frank started very much with ground zero in terms of
[695.64] Stephen: flats that there was a flat, it wasn't entirely complete
[698.64] Stephen: structurally. And it very much wasn't full of appliances. So
[703.44] Stephen: he's, he's been working.
[704.6] Frank: Well, it was full of appliances, but appliances that haven't been
[708.2] Frank: working for the past 10 years, since it was all on the fire. So
[714.72] Frank: you know, that's, that's the kind of place I like to start
[717.96] Frank: because it means any improvement I make is, you know, leaving it
[722.04] Frank: better than I found it. There's like, I can't make it worse than
[725.36] Frank: it was.
[726.4] Frank: Exactly.
[726.96] AndyRC: Yeah. Well, you could make it worse than it was.
[731.44] Frank: More on fire.
[733.92] Koel: Yeah. Yeah.
[735.32] Frank: But you know, the fact that it was already on fire and burns out
[738.84] Frank: when I got it, but I can only return it to the condition I
[742.12] Frank: found it. I can't make it worse.
[744.36] AndyRC: Yeah.
[744.88] Stephen: So your heart's saying out you're like, I've seen models
[747.4] Stephen: like this. I can rescue them.
[750.04] Frank: Exactly. Exactly. I like a challenge for five minutes
[754.32] Frank: before I get bored.
[756.72] Jack: I put a hole up. Jack with a beard, keep it, shave it. If you
[762.24] Jack: want to vote, I thought it'd be funny because it's doing my
[767.92] Jack: head in. It's so itchy.
[769.8] Jack: Yeah, I shave it then.
[771.6] AndyRC: I just had a shave.
[774.04] Stephen: You definitely got to go through the itchiness. I find a degree of
[778.84] Stephen: degree of shampooing helps. You need to keep it clean. That's
[782.92] Stephen: not itchy.
[784.12] Jack: Okay, I'll give it a go. Oh, God, keep its winning by 57%.
[792.4] Jack: But that's Tony.
[793.44] AndyRC: Are you going to go for David Letterman though, if you how
[797.16] Jack: long?
[798.64] Jack: Just till I look even more like a sex offender.
[803.72] Curry: You've nailed it.
[806.28] AndyRC: I go wizard. Let's go for wizard, man.
[809.12] Jack: Full on big clive. Like I just Oh God, someone send me some
[814.96] Jack: beard oil.
[816.2] Jack: Beard oil? Yeah, yeah, I've got some, some beard oil.
[821.8] Frank: Is that like olive oil? Like you squeeze the beans,
[824.12] Stephen: moi'll come there.
[829.68] Stephen: Not quite.
[836.36] Stephen: You still have seen
[837.16] Stephen: Hey, Mr. Fedorov.
[838.96] Stephen: I've got my first exciting entrance into the world of
[843.48] Stephen: FedEx and things.
[845.8] Stephen: And he's not a tech.
[847.32] Stephen: He's he's kiss instead of the other one. The other one.
[851.72] Stephen: Well, anyway, I'm going to try and kiss maybe not kiss ultra,
[854.68] Stephen: but I thought I'd give it a go.
[856.92] Jack: Yeah. I don't even think fat tech is like kiss or any more. I
[862.44] Jack: think they've got two firmwares.
[864.84] Jack: Felix has just gone.
[866.52] Jack: Men ultra ultra.
[868.92] Jack: Yeah, buy an ultra. Start again.
[874.2] Stephen: I thought I'd make a plunge. So I yeah, got an experimental
[878.76] Stephen: sort of setup, which needs to be built. I'll say more about it
[882.32] Stephen: later.
[884.6] Curry: Does this mean you finally ran out of stuff to buy and had to
[887.04] Curry: find new stuff?
[888.68] Stephen: It meant there's something highly unusual appeared and I
[892.12] Stephen: felt like getting it.
[894.6] Frank: Is this the thing that you've been you're being spooned about?
[898.6] Stephen: There was basically some kind of FedEx hazing, which
[903.28] Stephen: accompanied the purchase from a very over enthusiastic for a
[907.52] Stephen: member who thought that I'd got hold of something through some
[910.8] Stephen: sort of gray market, despite the fact I bought it publicly for
[914.16] Stephen: a member on their forum, and it was very stressful and rather
[917.12] Stephen: tiring. But I think we got there in the end. And what sits
[922.68] Stephen: Nielsen's wife very hopefully sent me the manual and everything
[926.0] Stephen: looks good. And they were very nice about it. But yeah, it was
[928.72] Stephen: a bit exhausting. We're there now. I don't know how I ended up
[932.56] Stephen: in this situation. It looks so innocuous. Oh, there's a shiny
[935.84] Stephen: thing. I'll get a shiny thing. And then all of a sudden people
[938.8] Stephen: are like shouting at me and saying, making all sorts of
[942.32] Stephen: accusations of improper behavior with a flight control.
[947.92] Jack: Just it got your ass shouldn't have had this particular flight
[953.04] Stephen: controller for whatever reason. That's ridiculous. Yeah, it got
[957.76] Stephen: out of hand. It got out of hand. Everything's getting out of
[960.64] Stephen: hand. I think the tech community is a little bit on edge that
[965.44] Stephen: they're a little bit in chain to sort of shout at people. It's
[970.32] Stephen: very, very high tension community.
[973.84] Stephen: Why can't we all founders seem quite nice. The people running
[976.64] Stephen: it seem nice. I think there's just it attracts some people who
[979.28] Stephen: are a little bit amped up. That's all slightly over
[986.16] Frank: enthusiastic community. Yeah, it's crazy.
[990.88] Stephen: What happens with TBS and happens with everything, doesn't
[994.08] AndyRC: it? When's that ever happened before Rotoraya? Anyway, so
[998.56] Stephen: there'll be some fun there. So there's that and then messing
[1001.84] Stephen: around with deviation TX and doing the logical switch and
[1004.64] Stephen: then some am 32 tinkering because I bought an am 32 ESC.
[1008.96] Stephen: And it looked like I'm running kind of the second firmware
[1012.16] Stephen: release ever, not just for that ESC, but for the MCU that the
[1015.36] Stephen: ESC is based on. And somewhere along the line, they didn't quite
[1020.56] Stephen: get the timing started. So it starts up and kind of misses the
[1023.76] Stephen: fact that the flight controllers trying to get in touch with it
[1027.36] Stephen: gets a little bit out of sync and, and then place the startup
[1031.84] Stephen: melody continually until you unplug the battery and plug it in
[1036.16] Stephen: again, whereupon it then syncs up perfectly. So there's kind of
[1040.0] Stephen: this cold start problem with it. And it's just a timing problem
[1043.28] Stephen: from what I can see. So I've been in touch with the helpful
[1046.32] Stephen: alka motors chap in Canada, and I've been sort of troubleshooting
[1049.68] Frank: that. And you've been importing goods from Canada as well here
[1055.68] Jack: or planning to use in coal. That's what I do. The UK has a
[1061.52] Stephen: prop shortage three and a half inch props just do not exist.
[1065.28] Stephen: This this side of the Atlantic for some reason. Excellent.
[1069.6] Stephen: Thank you. Cole has been extremely kind and agreed to
[1073.52] Stephen: purchase some three and a half inch props for me so that I can
[1077.6] Stephen: go to FBV drone fest with a three and a half inch, which is
[1080.88] Stephen: currently sans VTX, because it was a naked vista that I trashed.
[1087.12] Stephen: And I was going to replace it, but fail safe would like me to go
[1091.6] Stephen: and demo the new walk snail system. And so he wants a quad
[1095.76] Stephen: with a VTX shaped hole in it, which I have. So I was trying
[1100.16] Jack: to get that useful coals being but when Cole tries to get in
[1108.08] Curry: the country and they say, Are you carrying anything for anyone?
[1111.44] Curry: He says yes, then he's going to get in big trouble and search
[1115.76] Curry: in all intimate places and things and sit back. Just tell
[1120.08] Stephen: them you're flying your five inch on three and a half inch
[1122.4] Stephen: props. Look them dead in the eye and say, these are my five
[1126.8] Frank: inch.
[1132.48] Frank: Let's be honest, if you manage to find the customs officer who
[1135.68] Frank: understands like what props go with what quads, they're not
[1139.52] Frank: going to worry about who or why you're bringing them into the
[1142.64] Stephen: country. Well, they've got the team out adapter. So it's
[1145.28] Koel: plausible deniability, right? That should be fine.
[1151.84] Curry: We've got a bloke here with some sort of plastic ninja stars.
[1154.72] Curry: What should we do? That's more likely.
[1156.96] Jack: Ninja stars are are illegal in the UK. That's why we have even
[1161.68] Jack: plastic ones, mutant hero tales and stuff because of the 80s
[1167.68] Jack: ninja craze. I never knew that.
[1171.6] Stephen: Yeah, ninja, yeah, ninja craze as in the London gangsters.
[1177.36] AndyRC: What are these elusive three and a half inch props then that we
[1183.12] AndyRC: can't get in the UK? Are they the emacs ones or any bleeding
[1188.4] Stephen: three and a half inch. HQ three and a half inch T three and a
[1192.56] Stephen: half by two by three gem fan 3520s emacs anything the emacs
[1198.8] Stephen: ones are like rarer tends to start with surely this is just a
[1202.24] Curry: Steven thing you fly not three inch or five inch three and a
[1206.08] Curry: half inch on not four or six but five s this is like the
[1211.36] Curry: outlier stuff isn't it? This is what you do. Don't know what
[1214.16] Jack: you mean. Throwing stars offensive weapon acts 2019 2019
[1220.72] Stephen: that's a bit after that's a bit after the Ninja Turtles, isn't
[1223.84] Stephen: it? I think it's a drop. It's a one of those knives where it's
[1228.8] Stephen: like the blade slides out and then you clamp it in place. It's
[1232.4] Stephen: not a flick knife, but it's like a gravity knife. I don't
[1235.68] Frank: know why I was worried about not having fun coming back on.
[1241.6] Stephen: That's fine. I have been flying a lot more five inch though
[1245.52] Stephen: because I've got a bit of space doing a bit of pet sitting now
[1248.0] Stephen: and there's space to go fly stuff. So I've been ripping
[1250.72] Stephen: around the five inch having a lot of fun. We've been destroying
[1253.92] Stephen: wallpaper or you've been going out. I was flying it outdoors
[1258.24] Stephen: man. So the living room is not quite that capacious. I mean you
[1263.6] Jack: can see the ceiling up there, right? Well, Frank's like that
[1267.76] Jack: bit over there is burnt. So don't matter. He's been just
[1271.92] Jack: been tearing it up indoors. Yeah, through the life of I will
[1276.08] Frank: be any of the wiser. Yeah. But the wing though, the reason
[1280.0] Frank: that I'm trying to focus on the wing even though it's not
[1282.4] Frank: happening for various reasons. I've got the carbon fiber
[1288.32] Frank: I got it today. I have it. I just need to like glue it in so
[1292.56] Frank: I can see get it. The reason is I'm trying this month to get
[1297.52] Frank: practiced in on the wing because I signed myself up to the
[1303.2] Frank: Wings Over Wales event. The next panel of the these events
[1310.32] Frank: we've been to a couple of them where there's the X class and
[1313.36] Frank: there's the FPV wing racing and they're doing some rounds of
[1317.12] Frank: each. They're doing a great job of doing the race directing
[1320.72] Frank: and managing the switch between the two different courses
[1324.0] Frank: usually. The two different styles of flying I guess. But
[1330.64] Frank: yeah, back in, well, quite, you know, some number of weeks ago
[1334.8] Frank: when Wings Over Wales, which is the first weekend of
[1337.92] Frank: September, that seemed like a long way away. And so I was
[1341.76] Frank: like, yeah, by then I'll have something flying and sign myself
[1345.6] Frank: up to it. And then I counted the weekends that I have and
[1348.64] Frank: then looked at the amount I have to do in the flat. So before
[1351.76] Frank: like winter arrived, I was like, oh, I actually yeah, this is
[1356.64] Frank: that's not very far away at all. So that is my big push is to
[1362.24] Frank: get this wing flying so I can actually fly at least once
[1366.32] Frank: preferably get enough practice in to be able to, you know, make
[1368.88] Frank: it around the course, but at least once before the actual
[1372.16] Curry: event would be good. If you had a working wing before, didn't
[1376.16] Frank: you that little bonsai wing or something? Oh, that that is in
[1381.84] Frank: multiple pieces that just exploded. I mean, it was it was
[1386.4] Frank: I mean, at some point, I will mount it back in the wall,
[1389.04] Frank: because painters gave it to me written happy birthday on it. So
[1393.28] Frank: you know, that's going up on the wall at some point, but it did
[1396.56] Frank: at some point, I think it may have been traced by a quads that
[1401.84] Frank: was against like the every enthusiastic and I think it it
[1406.24] Frank: sort of became confetti. So some of it is still around, but
[1410.4] Frank: not a lot of it. It was the culprit. It was this was years
[1416.96] Frank: ago. This was, you know, in the before times. I remember that
[1422.48] AndyRC: was Weston Park when he gave you that wasn't it? Yeah, yeah,
[1425.92] Frank: that would have been 2018 as well, I think. Yeah, yeah. I
[1429.76] AndyRC: remember. Shall we talk? Shall we talk a bit about this? Hang on
[1434.32] AndyRC: FPV drone fest. One one thing does anybody know if they've
[1439.36] AndyRC: implemented the site into that uncrashed sim yet? Because I
[1444.72] AndyRC: couldn't get any information about that. It's only like a
[1448.24] AndyRC: week away or something. Does anyone say the the uncrashed
[1452.56] Stephen: map? Yeah, because I noticed that there was an email that
[1456.16] Stephen: had been sitting in my spam folder and there's a code in
[1459.2] Stephen: there. I'm not sure whether I memorized the code because my
[1463.6] Stephen: memory does that, but it's basically a beta in the steam
[1466.96] Stephen: client. So if you install uncrashed through steam, then
[1469.68] Stephen: you enter a special beta code which is in your email. So if
[1474.88] Stephen: you go searching for FPV drone fest communication in your
[1478.08] Stephen: email, you should have the code there. It's again called
[1482.0] AndyRC: uncrashed. Uncrashed, yeah. Well, how do you how do you get
[1486.88] AndyRC: that information from FPV drone fest? They've emailed it to
[1493.2] AndyRC: everyone with the ticket. This is the problem. I don't have an
[1497.2] Stephen: official ticket. Are you officially going because you
[1501.28] Stephen: should probably just ask the organizers then. Yeah, no, I'm
[1504.72] AndyRC: going. Yeah, I was I was I spoke to Peter today and we've I've
[1509.76] AndyRC: got a long list of stuff that I've got to do including a live
[1515.44] AndyRC: interview with Insta360 on all of their socials. No
[1519.92] AndyRC: pressure. Yeah, I just got to turn up and say my name and
[1526.16] AndyRC: they'll let me in but I want I want to have a I want to have a
[1530.64] AndyRC: flying uncrashed with the you know. Just going to turn up with
[1534.56] Stephen: your pooping and say hi, I'm Andy RC.
[1538.96] AndyRC: Do you know who I am? We do have a flying pooping but
[1544.16] AndyRC: there's just so much stuff that so much stuff we want to do.
[1547.36] AndyRC: It's going to be a packed weekend so I think it's we may
[1552.4] AndyRC: not even get to fly at all and but I'm going you know it looks
[1557.68] AndyRC: like it's going to be a fun event. Andy, Andy, what are you
[1560.8] AndyRC: doing? Are you going? What are you doing? I don't know. I don't
[1564.72] Frank: know. You do know. I I do want to go but I also want to be
[1571.6] Frank: protected from the rain and the cold when winter comes so it's
[1575.04] Frank: it's a kind of it's a bit of a toss up between the two.
[1578.16] Frank: We'll see. You got two you got two less than two weeks. I
[1586.02] Frank: know. I know. If I do come out I will just like
[1591.06] Frank: clamping the car but yeah that's that's the problem is
[1595.22] AndyRC: that it's the drive isn't it yeah. I was trying to think a
[1598.9] Curry: place more northerly in England but you just get into Scotland
[1602.18] Curry: after that don't you?
[1606.42] Curry: Yeah you do. It's really far north. Nottingham's like East
[1610.02] AndyRC: Midlands so it's way up high. It's like past like Liverpool
[1615.3] Curry: and stuff. No it's not. What? It's not past
[1619.38] AndyRC: Liverpool. Oh it's so far away. It's it's just above
[1623.7] Frank: Leicester. This is why this is why Tony's not coming this way. He's
[1628.1] Frank: going for his uh like the pressure train. That is diving
[1631.3] Jack: train. Yeah I'll achieve uh trainer. Yeah funny. Tony's
[1638.26] Stephen: pretty sure that if he goes up there there's just going to be
[1640.9] Stephen: people screaming painted blue. As far as he's concerned that's
[1644.34] Stephen: all there is from there to the North Pole.
[1648.5] Stephen: Endless whoa daub masses waving weaponry. Yeah he thinks that
[1653.38] AndyRC: there's just a nice whoa. I put a post out today uh you can get
[1660.42] AndyRC: 50% off a spectator ticket uh which I think the code is spec
[1667.62] AndyRC: 50 uh so if you do want to go as a spectator and you've been like oh I'm
[1673.06] AndyRC: not sure it's a bit expensive it's a bit far because of the fuel
[1676.58] AndyRC: uh that I think a spectator ticket it will be nine pound
[1680.5] AndyRC: 50 with that uh code. Because they know that everyone's uh
[1685.22] Stephen: anyone who's bought a ticket and is trying to bring their partner along so
[1688.02] Stephen: spectator will will have them on site for about
[1690.66] Stephen: 25 minutes before they say well that's nice dear
[1693.94] Stephen: I'll see you in two days.
[1698.18] Curry: You've done your flight that's it isn't it? Let's go.
[1702.58] Frank: And from when they were on and talking about it there's a load of competitions
[1706.02] Frank: for the spectators right there's like giveaways and things. The person who
[1709.06] Stephen: stays on site the longest. Easy to win.
[1714.58] AndyRC: You can't get half back sadly Caroline it's a
[1718.9] AndyRC: it's I'm gonna be putting out a video and it's
[1722.42] AndyRC: it's like something specific that has been given
[1726.18] AndyRC: to me just to promote the event so apologies for that
[1730.5] AndyRC: but uh yeah well that that killed it didn't it?
[1737.44] Stephen: Andy's a bad guy now it's his code. They could have thrown some hype and talk
[1742.0] Stephen: about how Insta360 are going away oodles have kicked oh my god it's gonna be
[1745.92] AndyRC: amazing. Yeah have you seen it have you seen
[1750.08] AndyRC: their new webcam that they've released this week?
[1753.36] AndyRC: I thought that would attract you with the hand thing. I thought that looked
[1757.52] AndyRC: interesting yeah I wonder if they're gonna have one of those there yeah
[1762.88] Frank: well because they're doing the whole live stream with Insta360 stuff right so
[1767.28] Frank: presumably there's gonna be like a bunch of them and there's I don't know
[1770.64] Frank: I imagine there's gonna be I want to know if they're gonna have like the pro
[1774.4] Frank: thing you know the the like the VR cameras like really expensive. I would
[1780.24] AndyRC: assume so yeah if they're live streaming it.
[1783.36] Frank: That would be quite fun to go and look at and poke maybe. Andy I sent you the
[1789.52] Jack: code on uh on discord. Oh thank you man.
[1793.84] AndyRC: I sent you the code on the private chat.
[1799.52] AndyRC: Thank you for that yeah yeah it's gonna be a bit of pressure on me if I'm
[1803.52] AndyRC: gonna if I actually do some flying so yeah.
[1808.32] Stephen: I managed to get Uncrashed to work on my potato laptop that I'm currently
[1811.92] Stephen: traveling with by the way it turns out if you uh
[1814.48] Stephen: drop down the settings and there's some resolution scale options you can make it
[1818.16] Stephen: run on on any old heap of garbage so everyone should be able to have a
[1822.96] AndyRC: little fresh around. Oh grumpy RC Flyer what's happening
[1827.92] AndyRC: about the smoke machine yeah um if all been well and we can
[1833.68] AndyRC: figure something out uh it's it's not 100% because the the
[1840.08] AndyRC: wind up north has I think we've had about two days
[1844.32] AndyRC: where it's been below 20 miles per hour but um hopefully
[1851.12] AndyRC: if the weather is okay myself and Phil should be bringing our
[1856.8] AndyRC: cubs and doing some formation flying uh and
[1861.84] AndyRC: one will have this with the smoke system on
[1865.84] AndyRC: on it but what's happening with the actual system
[1869.2] AndyRC: that has been developed by menace um chip shortages that it's really
[1875.92] AndyRC: unfortunate I've got the only two that has been
[1880.08] AndyRC: made even Greg hasn't got even Greg hasn't got
[1883.2] AndyRC: what what chips are sure sure I don't know I don't know STM32
[1888.4] Stephen: well short all the ESC manufacturers have moved from STM32 and now they're
[1893.6] Stephen: using giga devices like GDE230s and then a bunch of
[1897.6] Stephen: those are using artery tech basically everything that used to
[1901.68] Stephen: have STM32 chips they just ran out I was tracking
[1906.32] Stephen: some ESC updates and it's it's almost impossible to buy an STM32 based
[1910.24] Stephen: beyond how the ESC now they've all just vanished
[1912.8] AndyRC: yeah oh man that sucks Greg is working on it though
[1916.4] Jack: because he's like yeah if you speak to Greg let me know
[1919.76] Jack: because like thanks to Frank he um
[1924.0] Jack: he he wrote labels on my of my uh small little drawers
[1931.04] Jack: and now I have organized parts so there is chips that I can
[1937.68] Jack: salvage and send it just depends what he needs
[1941.68] Jack: so there's tons of crap here now that I just need to purge
[1946.32] Frank: and get rid of this episode was recorded in front of a live online audience
[1951.2] Frank: downloaded and edited to make sense when it played audio only
[1954.72] Frank: censored to please the iTunes people hosted on the internet forwarded through
[1958.16] Frank: to your podcast provider downloaded playing on your device and is
[1961.68] Frank: now playing in your ears all thanks to our patreons consider
[1965.76] Frank: joining them and you'll also get other online benefits
[1968.72] Frank: find out more at patreon.com forward slash let's drone out
[1973.92] Jack: Carl I've noticed you're very quiet on the whole um
[1978.64] Jack: action cam sort of side of things do you do you not want to talk about that
[1982.48] Jack: or do you um did you want to talk about ISO
[1986.72] Stephen: settings are we going to learn something
[1991.68] Jack: I don't know I'm your milk candy am I just causing trouble
[2000.56] AndyRC: I I'm a mute and I can't speak I mean I emailed Greg another got reply
[2008.24] AndyRC: Greg's been on a holiday he just got back
[2011.28] Jack: so fixing a pool is not a holiday oh is that what it was
[2016.48] Jack: not what it was yeah I went on my face but now being like
[2021.44] AndyRC: what are you telling and are you having oh no he didn't tell me I went on
[2025.04] AndyRC: because I needed for my HD zero uh video I um needed another patch
[2032.08] AndyRC: antenna because uh for um I don't I've only got one
[2036.64] AndyRC: pico patch somehow so I ordered one and I'm I'm sure it said we are
[2042.32] AndyRC: currently on vacation I'm paraphrasing it may not have been that
[2047.52] AndyRC: we are currently away maybe that I literally
[2051.12] Jack: shouted at him for like not dating his um stock
[2055.76] Jack: on the website I was like you just can't order something
[2059.68] AndyRC: it's a nightmare yeah Matt Greg at wings and wheels yeah is it is amazing
[2065.84] Jack: he's been busy man he's like hopefully RC volt will come out soon
[2071.84] AndyRC: yeah yeah we're allowed to we're allowed to talk about
[2076.24] AndyRC: that are we I wasn't sure well he's everyone saw the banner at wings and
[2080.32] Frank: wheels didn't we ah okay yeah people uh what's this I've
[2085.04] Frank: missed this I don't know what you're talking about
[2088.08] Frank: I'm I'm not saying it Greg was manning a stall
[2091.36] Stephen: under the label of RC volt at wings and wheels
[2096.32] Stephen: yeah and he had all sorts of kit in there various lipos and power
[2099.92] Stephen: connectors and consumables but uh lipo is it co.uk or stuff
[2107.44] Stephen: I don't know if it's online he was just doing it so RC volt is going to be like a
[2111.52] AndyRC: battery company I'm not sure if I'm allowed to say what it
[2117.28] AndyRC: is so I'm not gonna unless any yeah I don't know
[2121.28] Stephen: I know I know what it is but yeah he was giving out those solder practice
[2125.28] Stephen: boards to people we're giving out oh yeah I don't want to know is there
[2128.24] AndyRC: that proper cool the website works oh yeah yeah okay
[2132.72] AndyRC: let's see what's actually on it I haven't even what website
[2136.0] AndyRC: I think we'll leave the code on UK one let's leave
[2138.72] AndyRC: Greg to to say what it's going to be yeah
[2142.32] Frank: maybe we should have Greg on and explain it then at some point
[2146.0] Jack: I am messaging Greg that's a good idea that would be Andy
[2149.76] AndyRC: if you message him and ask if Andy can tell everybody what it is
[2157.76] Stephen: I tried the password RC volt and and apparently they've got better security
[2161.44] AndyRC: than walks now so yeah their passwords now my name
[2168.4] Stephen: oh no I mean you're working as some kind of shadowy walk snail influencer
[2174.08] Stephen: these days aren't you Andy just lurking there
[2177.2] Jack: no no what happened what happened but um I joke going to be clear I'm
[2182.16] AndyRC: absolutely joking about this no no I I uh been working
[2188.72] AndyRC: hey nobody no no I've been working with the system for a while
[2193.12] AndyRC: and um there's just not enough information there for me to
[2199.04] AndyRC: uh put a video out and so I was like like had a word with
[2206.5] AndyRC: cadex and just sort of said you know look like there needs to be some
[2212.9] AndyRC: transparency here because it's never going to succeed if nobody
[2218.58] AndyRC: knows the backstory and I and
[2224.9] AndyRC: it took ages but eventually they came out with
[2229.54] AndyRC: what they told me and uh so that that's all it was
[2233.7] AndyRC: I've got a good relationship with cadex um
[2237.78] AndyRC: they've always been like good with uh you know
[2242.18] AndyRC: sending me products and stuff like that although I will say they've got dusty
[2246.34] AndyRC: cameras and you know well I am proud of you
[2250.34] Curry: for waiting until you had the facts because it didn't stop
[2253.78] Curry: so many other people just pointlessly speculating about it
[2257.06] Curry: over and over and over again and making me delete lots of channels off my feed
[2263.54] AndyRC: yeah yeah it's a funny one though isn't it because people
[2266.9] AndyRC: it's it's like an exciting thing but you know it's like the DJI-03s
[2274.02] AndyRC: now isn't it it's like everyone oh it's it's it's this it's that and it's like
[2278.58] AndyRC: no but and and they get great views and people
[2282.74] AndyRC: uh I think people enjoy the speculation but it stresses me out a bit
[2287.94] AndyRC: I'm like what actually you know
[2291.62] AndyRC: yeah it's it's it's hilarious that I think
[2295.06] AndyRC: that you could say that the only solid HD system you could buy right now that
[2301.86] AndyRC: um you know you could have a hundred percent faith in is HD zero
[2308.1] AndyRC: which I think no one would have said that you know but I flew it yeah
[2314.58] AndyRC: that's I flew it um at the weekend it's
[2318.26] AndyRC: amazing it's amazing in a different way and
[2321.46] AndyRC: it does it doesn't look as good as it flies when you you're
[2327.38] AndyRC: you're in the moment and that that's uh what
[2330.5] AndyRC: what um I learned about HD zero and it's come a long way as well so it's way
[2336.18] AndyRC: better than it was before anyways so yeah I'm loving
[2340.66] Frank: HD zero man I mean HD zero I'm I'm following it all with
[2345.3] Frank: interest in the expectation that next year I'll be buying like an entire new
[2350.26] Frank: set of I'll probably go for a LRS because otherwise
[2353.54] Frank: Steven will like murder me uh and I'll also go for
[2358.1] Frank: like I do one sometimes digital video system
[2361.3] Frank: because like analog is fun but there's a lot of shinier things out
[2365.7] Frank: there and from what I can tell HD zero is like
[2370.58] Stephen: analog plus is that is that fair no if you're going to be racing it makes
[2376.98] AndyRC: sense it's way better than analog like I've
[2381.86] AndyRC: um you know I don't know if you saw the video but
[2385.78] AndyRC: I flown analog around the trees in the fields where
[2389.78] AndyRC: where I fly and I was flying at 200 milliwatt sorry 25 milliwatt
[2395.22] AndyRC: and uh the equivalent analog the equivalent analog
[2400.98] AndyRC: would not perform as good as HD zero and but that's in terms of like like having
[2407.14] Frank: a solid picture right like having having good
[2410.66] Frank: signal but is it in terms of like what you can actually see
[2415.06] AndyRC: yeah yeah yes as well as well so so when you're out in the open
[2420.1] AndyRC: and you're not flying behind a tree in fact
[2423.14] AndyRC: you know you have to read it's come so far when it comes to
[2428.26] AndyRC: the range and and how how much you have to push it before you start getting that
[2433.62] AndyRC: sparkly thing if I just fly
[2438.5] AndyRC: um like you know a kilometer line of sight
[2442.82] AndyRC: with nothing in the way you don't get any of that breaker on 200 milliwatt
[2447.3] AndyRC: now and the the the one watt freestyle one
[2452.98] AndyRC: um I've seen go very far without any sparkles kilometers
[2460.26] AndyRC: not myself but that's how how far it's come yeah so I've got all
[2466.66] Stephen: those systems as well um the DJI and HD zero and it's a
[2471.46] Stephen: pretty good analog kit like with uh you know I've got rapid fire and
[2475.7] Stephen: stuff and some some decent decent analog cameras um
[2480.66] Stephen: cadex uh I've forgotten what it's called now but the
[2483.94] Stephen: the starlight one that everyone retell yeah which gives a pretty good picture
[2487.54] Stephen: and I do find when I get into like dense foliage
[2491.78] Stephen: the HD zero makes it hard for me to tell where individual leaves and branches
[2496.34] Stephen: are but when I'm on analog the cameras have
[2499.06] Stephen: really good sharpening and edge definition so you could always tell
[2501.94] Stephen: where the edges are with HD zero sometimes I feel like I'm
[2505.22] Stephen: looking at just a solid green mass and I can't see
[2509.54] Curry: where individual branches and leaves I saw some stuff from walkstale someone
[2513.06] Curry: was I think it was uh mass tech was flying over some grass
[2516.66] Curry: and it looked like there were clouds because the grass had
[2520.34] Curry: clumped together so much in compression that it just became
[2523.86] Curry: mist it was that bad it was like the first five feet was clear and then it
[2528.74] Curry: was just this mist of green yeah which is just yeah it's like there
[2533.06] Stephen: were a few details in his picture that were at like 720p but the grass in
[2537.14] Stephen: front of him was at like 100p and it was just a couple of
[2541.46] AndyRC: giant pixels and that was all yeah yeah I think it probably
[2546.42] AndyRC: wanted to settle I probably think it looked worse than it
[2550.26] AndyRC: did I don't think you uploaded it in 4k I could be incorrect but when I saw it
[2555.14] AndyRC: was in 1080p but that I'm you know it's got a long way
[2559.7] Stephen: YouTube does it no favors it's hard yeah and there's reference footage
[2563.78] AndyRC: somewhere else yeah I'm now uploading everything even
[2566.74] AndyRC: if it's analog or whatever in 4k it's a pain in the
[2571.62] AndyRC: bomb because it takes sometimes two days to process
[2575.78] AndyRC: but uh everybody's like how's your HD zero
[2580.34] AndyRC: how's your HD zero footage looks so good mine looks terrible when I upload it to
[2585.22] AndyRC: YouTube you upload it in 4k and then you get
[2588.5] AndyRC: that is it called the VP9 codec I think yeah
[2592.42] Stephen: any 720p footage just gets crushed by YouTube it's it's terrible even 1080
[2598.9] AndyRC: even 1080 does yeah so now upload it 4k for me 4k 60
[2605.38] AndyRC: it's a bugger you end up with a 20 gig upload file
[2610.34] AndyRC: which takes a couple hours yeah but try it's what everyone's doing you kind of
[2616.1] Koel: like bypass the compression a bit because I think but when you do the 4k
[2620.18] Koel: uploads you get like you get a higher bit rate or something
[2624.42] AndyRC: um no no so when when you upload in 4k so so so YouTube's got two
[2631.46] AndyRC: uh codecs I believe uh there's the potato codec and then
[2636.18] AndyRC: there's the VP9 so if you take if you take a 1080p or even
[2641.46] AndyRC: 720 so the uh HD zero is seven well 720p yeah
[2648.26] AndyRC: 1280 by 720 yeah but if you upscale that to 4k
[2652.74] AndyRC: then you get like what very similar to the original file
[2657.86] AndyRC: was that you the the user has to watch it in 4k
[2662.34] AndyRC: and uh it translates quite but sorry go on yeah if you feed it a bunch of
[2667.86] Stephen: data that's like got a lower amount of detail
[2671.06] Stephen: into a codec that's ready to accept a higher amount of detail
[2675.46] Stephen: it means you're going to cut out less of that when you make the transcode
[2679.7] Stephen: so if you trans if you take your 720p footage and you transcode it again into
[2683.7] Stephen: 720p chances are you'll lose quite a bit of that definition but if you upscale it
[2689.14] Stephen: and make every pixel like four pixels at 1440p
[2693.46] Stephen: and throw that into a 1440p encoder the 1440p encoder is going to have more
[2698.5] Stephen: bandwidth generally than the 720p and there's less chance of the original
[2702.98] Stephen: 720p detail being lost once it's made that shift as well yeah yeah
[2708.1] Frank: that's true yeah is this is this related to the
[2712.34] Frank: HP64, HP65 stuff that you mentioned in a while back
[2719.38] Frank: not really is that is that a completely different conversation
[2724.1] Frank: yeah so um it's just like i keep hearing h264 and h265 being mentioned as codecs
[2731.3] Frank: but then there's also like you like you were saying the the
[2734.34] Frank: vp9 stuff mentioned as a codec it seems to be
[2738.98] Frank: i don't know maybe i just don't know enough there's a there's a few out
[2742.9] AndyRC: there is there is a few out there uh but h264
[2748.26] AndyRC: is this you can look at graphs of how you know what h264 and h265 were
[2755.7] Stephen: proprietary codecs that were introduced by the like the Fraunhofer Institute the
[2759.78] Stephen: MPEG consortium and they were like the official way to do
[2762.9] Stephen: MPEG but because that was a committee based process loads of people wanted to
[2767.3] Stephen: get ownership of that stuff so they're
[2769.14] Stephen: patent encumbered which means you build them into devices you have to
[2772.5] Stephen: kick someone a buck or two when you use them
[2775.14] Stephen: because youtube encodes videos at a massive scale
[2778.26] Stephen: they didn't want to pay any of that they wanted an open source codec and they
[2781.54] Stephen: didn't want to get into a legal spat by reimplementing something in a clean room
[2785.94] Stephen: and then having someone take them to court so they just went their own way
[2789.3] Stephen: with youtube and created these vp9 codecs
[2791.86] Stephen: and gave them away for free because it's better to
[2795.14] Stephen: make something themselves and give it away and lose money off the codec
[2798.66] Stephen: then pay money hand over fist every time they use someone else's codec
[2803.62] AndyRC: yeah codecs are all delivery methods aren't they they're not it's not raw
[2809.86] AndyRC: video it's all it's all compression and
[2814.18] AndyRC: coder decoder yeah the the limitation of h264
[2818.98] AndyRC: is that it can't encode higher than 4k 60
[2823.62] AndyRC: so that's when it has to go to h265 so for example the new go that well it's
[2830.74] AndyRC: not new anymore the gopro 10 is it the 5.7 k mode
[2835.62] AndyRC: or is it 5.3 when you select that well first of all
[2840.1] AndyRC: the thing starts to burn up but that's a separate problem
[2845.38] AndyRC: but it switches the codec to h265 and i've got a beefy pc
[2852.18] AndyRC: but plain 5.7 k or whatever is it's 5. something
[2857.62] AndyRC: it stutters like crazy and and you'd have the same
[2862.18] AndyRC: if you did 4k because it takes more processing to play it back
[2866.34] Frank: basically is it and it it was your video right they explained about the
[2870.42] Frank: difference between them being like h264 has
[2872.82] Frank: fixed sizes of boxes like all of this fixed size of square that's what
[2878.9] Frank: it's looking at to work out okay all of these are blue but then you
[2883.38] Frank: know so we don't encode every single blue pixel you just say
[2886.98] Frank: all these pixels in this square are blue but then the h265
[2891.78] Frank: it can change the size of the square so if like half your screen
[2895.94] Frank: is all the same shade of blue it only needs to encode that once
[2900.1] Frank: compared to like the other one which has however many of those bigger
[2904.82] AndyRC: sort of squares and pixels yeah yeah yeah so h264
[2910.66] AndyRC: is uh 16 by 16 blocks they used to be called macro blocks but i think they
[2915.7] AndyRC: called UTCs now which i forget what the
[2919.46] AndyRC: acronym means but uh h265 has 64 by 64
[2927.3] AndyRC: and it and it can split them up in uh part
[2931.38] AndyRC: the way the the terminology is partitioned
[2934.9] AndyRC: in uh like 35 different ways compared to nine different ways of h264
[2941.62] AndyRC: which means that you can there's more in fact the the information that's been
[2947.62] AndyRC: leaked about the new um uh dji system uh ironically is
[2955.06] AndyRC: we'll be using h265 as well so uh you know you could probably connect
[2961.94] AndyRC: the dots from walk snail to the dji 03
[2966.82] AndyRC: going down the h265 route it's just not ready yet
[2970.9] Stephen: you know this is generational as well right like we started with mpeg2
[2975.7] Stephen: these h264 and h265 are technically under this mpeg4 family of codecs
[2980.9] Stephen: originally we had mpeg2 and if you think back to dvd's they were like 480p 720 by 480
[2987.62] Stephen: or 720 by 576 for pal and they were at 6 megabit with mpeg2 and you think about
[2994.34] Stephen: that's actually fairly high for for the really low resolution that those had
[2999.22] Stephen: they were very simple they didn't require much cpu to encode or decode
[3003.06] Stephen: so generationally as we move forward to newer gopros to newer laptops
[3007.3] Stephen: all of a sudden you can take that same six megabit and you can afford to spend
[3011.22] Stephen: more cpu cycles on every six megabit chunk of that which means that you can
[3016.18] Stephen: encode more complex information into it so instead of a 480p stream
[3020.9] Stephen: you can go up to maybe a 1080p with h264 and keep it that six six megabit
[3027.78] Stephen: but then h265 says we're going to throw even more cpu at it we're going to analyze
[3033.38] Stephen: it much more but it's going to be more strenuous to decode that information and
[3037.38] Stephen: to turn it into a raw image again the result is now we can maybe do a 4k at
[3041.38] Stephen: six megabit as well and so streaming services you know like
[3044.42] Stephen: netflix use actually pretty low data rates to get some quite high picture quality
[3049.06] AndyRC: yeah i actually signed up for the netflix 4k uh package because it
[3056.58] AndyRC: actually at the time wasn't much more than
[3061.54] AndyRC: the the standard one and i was i paid for it and then i was like
[3068.18] AndyRC: right why is nothing in 4k and it's because i didn't have the
[3075.14] AndyRC: hevc codec installed and uh that can't work through chrome
[3084.34] AndyRC: so um i only and apparently it works through microsoft edge but
[3091.7] AndyRC: everything still showed as nothing showed as 4k
[3095.3] AndyRC: and it was only netflix's own windows app that that worked uh and i had to pay
[3101.86] AndyRC: i had to pay the 99p on the windows store to get the hevc
[3107.06] AndyRC: and i did i did buy it you can get it illegitimately but what's not to pay
[3113.54] Stephen: for a codec wow yeah it's all patenting cupboard
[3117.38] Stephen: rubbish and it's tied into the drm system as well so they go hand in glove
[3121.7] Frank: is this is there something to do with hardware acceleration as well like a
[3125.14] Frank: certain board's gonna like i don't know what part of
[3128.58] Frank: the computer it is all phone yeah so like with your gopro it's not doing that
[3132.9] Stephen: video and code on its cpu there's no way it'd be able to do that
[3136.1] Stephen: it's it's all down to what the chip capabilities are and this is where
[3139.62] Stephen: we talk about the kind of pigeon and sparrow system over in dgi and
[3143.54] Stephen: how those are probably going through generations because that's just
[3146.98] Stephen: a mobile phone chipset essentially that they sort of
[3151.06] Stephen: sliced and diced to make into a drone chipset
[3154.74] Stephen: and and the way that they're able to introduce the newer codecs is that
[3157.94] Stephen: those hardware capabilities are present in newer hardware whereas they
[3162.5] Stephen: weren't in older hardware it's it's an accelerated offload that lets
[3166.5] Stephen: them do the video encoding it's not done on the cpu at all
[3169.78] Stephen: as carrie knows trying to do this on the cpu in open hd absolutely kills the
[3174.02] Stephen: system and you need a specific board with a either a very powerful cpu or
[3178.42] Stephen: preferably a hardware encoder to to make it happen at a decent speed
[3182.34] AndyRC: i wanted to ask curry kitten because about something because when i
[3189.7] AndyRC: did my videos on hd0 on warps now somebody mentioned another project very
[3196.9] AndyRC: similar to open hd but it it's it's not a fork of open hd
[3200.82] AndyRC: root beach no no no and they're using these really
[3205.22] AndyRC: tiny uh really tiny arduino boards
[3210.82] AndyRC: they're apparently impossible to get hold of
[3214.34] AndyRC: and uh it's working like really well uh it's
[3218.5] AndyRC: something someone i bet someone in the comments arduino's uh
[3222.1] Stephen: eight bit micro controllers so how's that even happening are you talking
[3225.54] Frank: about the hardware things a lot in the past
[3228.66] AndyRC: 10 years no no no let me it's it's called uh
[3232.5] Stephen: it's like i mean a lot of stuff so arduino compatible but the arduino's
[3235.78] Stephen: themselves were like at mel chips weren't they
[3238.42] Frank: yeah yeah the you know that was kind of a lot of the early flight controllers
[3243.62] Frank: were using the same thing boards but yeah arduino now do
[3247.3] Frank: like loads and loads of boards and they're aiming them for a kind of
[3250.9] Frank: uh industry you know industrial applications
[3254.34] Frank: of industrial internet of things type stuff
[3257.54] Frank: i wouldn't be surprised if they did have some high level things they're kind of
[3260.66] Frank: aiming at the raspberry pi sort of market as well um i know there
[3264.42] Stephen: were some rock chip chipsets that were floating around like the rk
[3268.18] Stephen: three three something that was basically a webcam chip set someone was
[3273.54] Stephen: trying to repurpose to do something like this
[3277.22] AndyRC: i'll stick it in should i remember that curry should i stick an hour
[3281.22] Curry: hour trip are we talking about the hardware project which was using
[3284.18] Curry: like the rocket ship um some sort of board yeah
[3287.54] Curry: and they reckon they could encode h265 on that one
[3291.06] Curry: their problem was getting the raspberry pi 4 to decode it
[3294.34] Curry: on the other end fast enough to be useful uh
[3298.34] Curry: they they've i think when i last checked in with them they were running
[3302.02] Curry: into chip shortages as well and unable to progress
[3305.86] AndyRC: that much uh i don't know if you can uh check this
[3309.78] AndyRC: youtube video out it's it's called um it's called introducing
[3315.86] AndyRC: wfb-ng is open hd wireless frame buffer oh yeah yeah
[3322.9] Stephen: i remember this yeah the wife right it's the next
[3326.58] Curry: wi-fi broadcast um next well yeah next generation
[3331.14] Curry: this is the same broadcast is what's what open hd came from wi-fi broadcast
[3336.1] Curry: was the original project and there were a bunch of forks from
[3338.66] Curry: that and open hd was among them and it was uh four or five years ago or even
[3343.62] Curry: longer i think they were they were doing this and doing um
[3348.1] Curry: hd broadcasts um and i've i've i know it's mario posted this video i
[3353.78] Curry: haven't haven't really watched it um as i remember it didn't it didn't look
[3358.42] Curry: that that great um it doesn't look that great
[3362.82] AndyRC: but it says i'll read from the description
[3365.7] AndyRC: introduced in the new wi-fi broadcast next generation that's why it's called
[3371.78] AndyRC: wfb-ng this is not a fork of any other project it's created by
[3378.98] AndyRC: vasily or and then in brackets s v p com visily sorry and opened it and and
[3387.46] AndyRC: open hd forked it and used forked it and used it
[3393.54] AndyRC: so time twister yeah yeah so basically it's the father of open hd
[3399.22] AndyRC: and then there's a bunch of links to the hardware
[3403.38] AndyRC: and it looks very small and the only uh i thought he was running this on the
[3409.22] Stephen: same hardware what's the what let's talk about the
[3412.18] Stephen: hardware he says he's using a jetson nano here still yes
[3416.1] Stephen: have i missed because the jetson nano is a big chunky beast like curry kittens
[3420.1] Stephen: running yeah the jetson nano is a crazy thing
[3423.46] Curry: to run on this it's got all these these gpu's
[3427.06] AndyRC: no it's it's this he's running an eight inch on this
[3429.94] AndyRC: it's a knife like xl8 and ncb00 carrier board and then he's
[3436.42] Stephen: yeah that's a jetson nano carrier board so that's still
[3439.86] Stephen: that's like a hundred mil long board it's a big fatty
[3443.62] AndyRC: it ain't small i saw something and i don't think it maybe it's someone's
[3448.34] Stephen: reached out to me on disk could asking me where
[3450.58] Stephen: where they could buy this i don't know why they thought i'd know but
[3454.42] AndyRC: it's really is released a new video so there's also this mention of this nano
[3459.78] Frank: pi neo2 whatever that is yes i think that might have been what
[3465.14] AndyRC: i was like i i basically somewhere he's got
[3470.9] Frank: which looks a lot more reasonable here we are
[3474.42] AndyRC: it's like it's pretty small what it's pretty it's like a really small sort of
[3478.9] AndyRC: vt is actually like managed to make it £10.92
[3482.42] Stephen: and aliex press so check these dimensions andy it's a
[3487.3] Stephen: 87 mil by 50 mil and weighs 30 grams and that's just a carrier board that you
[3492.26] Stephen: have to plug the cpu module into all right okay
[3497.3] AndyRC: it's a big chunker okay so this is no good it's just it's
[3502.82] AndyRC: funny because i was doing all these videos and
[3505.14] AndyRC: somebody said uh actually it might have been this particular guy i
[3510.26] AndyRC: don't know actually wfb ng is the best
[3513.78] AndyRC: hd solution out that makes sense and i'm like
[3517.78] AndyRC: uh i don't even know what that is well it seems like open hd have been
[3522.5] Stephen: really working to try and make the solution easier to use to work on the
[3526.18] Stephen: osd to work on a lot of the other stuff that
[3529.62] Stephen: makes the whole system work but what they haven't done really is revisit the
[3533.3] Stephen: core video transmission stuff and i i went and read on this and easy
[3538.42] Stephen: wi-fi broadcast was a system that is the kernel of
[3542.1] Stephen: open hd which allows you to take a regular wi-fi
[3545.06] Stephen: card and instead of running like a TCP IP network
[3548.82] Stephen: it just lets you fire raw data out of the wi-fi card so anyone can listen to
[3552.98] Stephen: it and that that makes everything tick what
[3555.94] Stephen: they've done with wi-fi broadcast next generation
[3558.42] Stephen: is to make it so that when you fire data out of the video card
[3561.62] Stephen: the size of each chunk of data aligns perfectly with the amount of data needed
[3565.7] Stephen: to send a chunk of video because previously those two sizes
[3569.3] Stephen: didn't match so you'd send like one chunk from easy wi-fi
[3574.1] Stephen: broadcast and get not an entire frame of video and then you'd have to wait for
[3578.1] Stephen: the next chunk from easy wi-fi broadcast and you finish that frame and get the
[3581.54] Stephen: start of the next frame which was really bad for latency because
[3584.98] Stephen: you didn't you weren't able to decode the video instantly
[3587.78] Stephen: so they've lined it up with i think the RTC or whatever they're using for the
[3593.78] Stephen: underlying video transmission sizes so that they're one-to-one steps now
[3598.9] AndyRC: so is this guy just trolling them because this video is four weeks ago and
[3602.5] AndyRC: it says introducing this system is open hd in trouble
[3607.54] Stephen: question mark i hope you'll probably just nab it and use it i mean how far
[3612.34] Curry: i remember seeing it and i didn't i didn't really understand
[3616.26] Curry: what the video was trying to say because it's like a it's mario who works on
[3621.38] Curry: open hd amongst other things he tries out a lot of other stuff yeah
[3626.26] Curry: and it's like yeah if they've got the next generation of it
[3630.82] Curry: grab it and put it in there i mean yeah that said open hd hasn't had a release
[3634.58] Curry: for so long they had a they had a developer
[3638.42] Curry: swap around and that because it was like oh yeah version 2.1 will be out next
[3643.3] Curry: week two years ago and that still hasn't happened
[3646.9] Curry: um so it's not is open hd in trouble it's just it's just languishing a little
[3652.74] Curry: bit and needs to uh kind of sort itself out and get another
[3655.94] AndyRC: release out there yeah okay that's cool well i learned
[3660.18] Curry: something today
[3665.22] Curry: i am trying desperately to i've been trying to work on getting
[3669.54] Curry: two open hd setups going i've had i've got my where's my board it's down here
[3673.7] Curry: this is this is my desk board now this is the the
[3678.02] Curry: oaken hd board which is basically this uh little
[3681.94] Curry: connector board which sits on top of a pi compute
[3685.14] Curry: module which is that bit and this was in my wing and i was having
[3688.98] Curry: such problems getting this working i must have i
[3692.34] Curry: think i originally got this round about christmas time
[3696.26] Curry: and i've had to and fro with the developer about it we
[3700.5] Curry: first off we found a problem about the usb
[3704.58] Curry: and current shoes and it would basically shut the pie down
[3708.98] Curry: and then he was eventually able to replicate that and did some hardware
[3711.78] Curry: modifications and then i had the problem where i had i
[3715.86] Curry: had my wing flying in analog checking out inaf works do an auto launch that
[3720.34] Curry: works perfectly okay put a system in it and i'm like brilliant
[3724.18] Curry: i'm gonna go to the field i'm there turned it on got the goggles
[3727.14] Curry: on right ready to go why have i got no satellites
[3730.02] Curry: and for some reason the wi-fi adapter was absolutely knocking out my stats and i
[3736.66] Curry: spent weeks going to and from the oaken developer
[3741.46] Curry: sending him a video saying here's my setup this is what i'm doing
[3744.5] Curry: tell me what i'm doing wrong and he's like nothing it's absolutely right he's
[3746.98] Curry: like must be a problem with the board send it back to me
[3749.14] Curry: board went back to italy he plugged it into his system he even went out and
[3752.82] Curry: bought express rs so he could try and replicate it
[3755.3] Curry: he plugged it in and it worked perfectly and i was like what now
[3759.46] Curry: i was like you saw my video yeah and he's like yeah i don't get it either
[3763.14] Curry: it's the same but it doesn't work so it's come back again
[3767.62] Curry: and now i was like right i'm taking it all out the wing i've replicated the
[3770.74] Curry: entire system on the desk just so i can sit down and figure out
[3776.42] Curry: where the problem is something must be being introduced when it's on my wing
[3780.26] Curry: to knock out the the sats basically because what i have to do with this
[3784.34] Curry: i've got a very short hdmi cable to the pie and my
[3788.5] Curry: very stupid looking big stupid goggles so what i need to do is auto launch it
[3793.86] Curry: put it in return to home like visually walk back to the goggles put them on
[3798.34] Curry: if i haven't got satellites to do that the plane is not going to arm and even
[3801.94] Curry: if it did arm it just fly off somewhere and we don't know what would
[3805.06] Curry: happen so and for some reason that has been going
[3809.14] Curry: and going for six months i was um pretty disappointed about it because i
[3813.46] Curry: really wanted to um get moving and do a bit more in it
[3816.9] Curry: and see what can be done because people that aren't me people like
[3821.22] Curry: mario have uh some amazing results and like you know
[3824.9] Curry: people are flying 30 40k on this system with just a couple of wi-fi adapters
[3830.26] AndyRC: quite happily well that video show one one of his many
[3833.94] AndyRC: videos is showing yeah well i'd get some good results
[3839.94] AndyRC: i just thought i'd ask you about it because i had no idea what it was
[3844.1] AndyRC: and uh but now i do so thank you caroline tyler she has gone and bought
[3850.18] AndyRC: uncrashed on your on your recommendation steven
[3854.66] AndyRC: so uh will that run on my potato system i i had it running on a an i5
[3862.9] Stephen: like 8 gen or something quite a few years old
[3866.82] Stephen: and i just lowered it to 720p and then there's a resolution scale options so
[3870.82] Stephen: you can actually set the screen resolution and then get it to render it
[3873.7] Stephen: a lower resolution and that makes it run much faster oh
[3877.54] AndyRC: that's cool i haven't tried it actually i haven't
[3880.5] AndyRC: uh i need to i'll need to get it is it expensive
[3884.5] AndyRC: just 10 quid 10.99 that's not too bad um ethics node scene
[3890.9] Jack: ethics node are so using an f4 board on the wing curry
[3895.38] Curry: yeah it's a matey matek f405 board have you turned off soft cereal
[3904.02] Curry: is that uh i don't know right stuff yeah because it clashes with one of the uarts
[3909.38] Curry: well all my uarts definitely work i've i've checked i can get everything
[3913.46] Curry: coming in and stuff and you're literally had this running and then i like plug in
[3917.3] Curry: the wi-fi adapter and you see satellites 13 and he goes it
[3920.9] Curry: starts like his time bomb starts ticking down it's really weird though
[3924.18] Curry: right now it doesn't knock it out it's on i know it
[3927.3] Curry: doesn't knock it out completely it's like a creeping death thing so it
[3930.98] Curry: like knocks down to eight you know seven six five and it goes
[3934.34] Curry: back up six seven and then suddenly it hits zero for a
[3937.22] Curry: second then it bounces back up to funwave all these things that will
[3940.34] Curry: basically make you crash you can't i'm not going to launch
[3943.94] Curry: something where the satellite occasionally drops to zero but i don't
[3946.58] Curry: know why i can't i can't think of a worse thing to do yeah you know it's
[3951.78] AndyRC: interesting what what's interesting is all of these
[3955.14] AndyRC: hd systems don't play well with with gps do they
[3959.38] AndyRC: the walk snail system doesn't dgi definitely doesn't
[3963.94] AndyRC: you can solve it by wrapping the cable in like copper wiring and
[3968.5] AndyRC: and that sort of sorts out the problem have you done have you tried anything
[3972.02] Curry: like did that already because i had that i
[3974.66] Curry: had that on an analog thing where the it was this one actually it was a rush
[3979.14] Curry: uh flight controller i had to replace one and as soon as i did that
[3983.22] Curry: gps went to zero and by wrapping the wire in copper and then soldering that
[3989.54] Curry: copper to ground to fix it completely so i did try that
[3993.78] Curry: on the wing and it didn't do anything
[3998.42] Curry: something something odd is happening which we can't work out
[4001.62] Curry: but that that's my month's task is to try and
[4005.3] AndyRC: fix that could you just stick analog in it and see if you have the same problem
[4009.78] Curry: and then i don't yeah analog works perfectly fine all right
[4013.3] Curry: i don't have a great big wi-fi adapter sitting on the wing going boom
[4016.9] Jack: here's some here's some wi-fi yeah all right um should we call it there guys
[4022.18] Jack: because that is all we've got time for oh all right i was going to say i've been
[4027.46] Stephen: wrapping gps in foil as well just to get no on the party that was all

[4060.5] AndyRC: i said forked for okay we'll work on that that can stay in
[4067.46] Frank: yeah okay when are we telling people on the main
