Thank you to call us campus art folk now Sam Dharma on with the show [23.08] Jack: Hello and welcome back you're listening to let's drone out tonight [56.6] Jack: We are joined by a writer at Kerry Kitten [59.32] Jack: Hello, the man with the lovely moustache [62.88] Jack: Cheers. Hello. Very tired and somewhat jet-lagged Cole [67.8] Jack: Howdy and [69.96] Jack: my darling wife [73.72] Jack: Seven years [76.72] Jack: Bonjour [78.72] Jack: And agree to this I know well, that's one for the editor right there and I've right until I fly [86.4] Jack: Thank you for joining us [89.08] Jack: We've got some lovely people in the chat. Lergie Kerry kittens here Richard Warwick. Hello [96.6] Jack: Ben tomorrow when Davis [99.6] Tony: Warwick from the chat, I hope you say every time you say his name [103.64] Jack: Marshall McFly. Hello, Paul. Um, yeah, I'm all right. I've got a hole in me [114.76] Jack: So, yeah a hole reopened and [118.68] Jack: This time they're packing it which involves a nurse with a little metal stick [125.32] Jack: poking [127.48] Jack: Packing into the hole sounds quite nice. So [134.0] Curry: And can you do it while she's doing it [136.6] Jack: No, no, I just want to I want to crawl up into the fetal position, but then she can't get to it and then [145.08] Jack: Playing hard to get horrible [147.64] Jack: It's quite violating. She's like getting all up inside my gut. It's quite a deep hole [153.92] Jack: So I've just hit there for five minutes like wincing [157.24] Jack: as she packs it [159.8] Tony: And the wall they pack in there it will heal [171.8] Jack: Can for next time can you just lie there and say pack me like one of your French girls [184.36] Tony: Because [189.24] Tony: Yeah, so well, it's nice to meet up with everyone [194.6] Tony: Because it was all on all the day as usual [200.28] Jack: Where did you go back to the Maldives [202.92] Curry: no, we were in Rome because [205.6] Curry: Sophie was supposed to go there on a school trip because she was studying Latin of all things [211.08] Curry: But because it was cancelled because of Covid she didn't get to go as she was sad about it [215.64] Curry: So we said we promise we'll take you in it. It came up now [220.04] Curry: So, um, I made a translate every single piece of Latin that we found which [225.0] Curry: around Rome is a lot [227.8] Curry: And we got partial translations of like something something something king something victory something [236.52] Tony: Was it worth the money [239.32] Jack: Yeah [243.56] Jack: He loves he loves it he's like [246.2] Jack: What come on binds this and why doesn't it work and i'm on I don't know [252.2] Curry: I'm scared. We'll find out. Oh, I i've officially given up with you. No [258.04] Curry: Some people just can't use google [260.36] Curry: person now [261.88] Curry: You can ask him. No, i'm not allowed to [264.52] Jack: I'm just apparently supposed to know [269.11] Tony: Well, we always do that house meeting up didn't we? [273.03] Jack: Yeah, it was nice. It was nice [275.19] Jack: Polls [277.19] Jack: All got to meet him. Yeah, and we all got to fly hidden valley even frank [283.59] Tony: Yeah, even though [285.19] Tony: Two and a half minutes. All right [287.35] Stephen: Yeah, amen. It's better than from what three and a half thrust vectored minutes [293.11] Curry: From what I can figure out frank went to the cooling towers [297.59] Curry: Lost accord immediately went to hidden valley crashed his wing immediately. So yeah, he is he's trying to tell zero for two [305.27] Koel: Yeah, yeah felt really bad for him. I was like damn like [310.07] Jack: Of all times apply you break everything. Yeah. Yeah, I even offered him like [315.59] Jack: An apex. I was like, do you want this? And he was like, no [319.51] Jack: I was like, okay [321.35] Stephen: He flew my tiny little two and a half inch micro around gave it a bit of welly [326.95] Stephen: Yeah, I gave him a few packs. I think he was just worried about losing that as well [332.31] Stephen: Needs more stick time [334.55] Jack: Confidence. I know we need to he's not been having fun lately. We just all need to like [341.51] Jack: Clove together with our spares and soldering irons and get some collapsible tables and show up somewhere and be like frank [349.03] Stephen: Give and just I mean if he's got a couple of little gliders here, i'm sure something could be done [355.11] Tony: He is going to wiles next week [358.31] Curry: Yeah, is it next week? He's gonna go wing racing, isn't he? I still haven't signed up yet [362.87] Tony: I keep threatening that i'm going to but I haven't but I have spoke to matt and I can just turn up [369.83] Tony: So I might just do that because I don't i'm not under a cent. I want to go or [376.47] Tony: I've got to learn welsh within one week [380.07] Stephen: It is confusing when you see the road signs and you're like, what the hell what are they trying to tell me in their next line down? [384.87] Stephen: It's english. I like okay [386.87] Tony: Oh, thank god [389.83] Jack: I yeah, well because I live there for quite a while or it just kind of all goes in [395.75] Jack: You know [397.83] Jack: Osmo as welsh and eventually pick. Yeah, you just off means slow [402.87] Jack: You know the telephone boxes are the weirdest one. I can't remember those off the top of my head [410.07] Tony: Um, I want telephone charge telephone boxes nowadays just got like, um books or [418.23] Tony: um [419.43] Tony: Jump start your heart thing [425.19] Stephen: Just poorly maintained tramp toilets all that yeah [431.11] Stephen: So it's the man who lives in london [433.75] Tony: Should we talk about drones? Why this is a drone podcast? [438.55] Jack: Well, it's because what just doing the same bar boil the painless abode [443.35] Jack: Say that we're the strong podcast. We're not even a drone podcast [449.27] Curry: Yes, that still makes us at least the fourth best [452.87] Stephen: In the uk, I made a thing [455.67] Stephen: I made a thing that looks like an apex, but if you look closely you may see a strange bit of yellow in the middle [462.39] Jack: Well, it should be printed bow tie [465.27] Stephen: 3d printed bow tie that I did like [468.37] Stephen: 105 percent so it squished down and gave a good fit [472.39] Stephen: I did find someone who can cut one. But yeah, I was posted this [476.79] Stephen: by [477.91] Stephen: A maker in the u.s. It's cool little frame kind of an apex style but lighter [483.19] Stephen: single of [485.03] Stephen: Uh, no separate arms a couple of little surprises. It's got some nice. I think it's alley hardware that he's put with it [490.55] Stephen: So it's quite light [492.07] Stephen: um, but the the arms i've got a spare set of arms [495.99] Stephen: And one set of arms is four mil and the other is four point six millimeter [500.95] Stephen: I don't think he realized that when he sent it out and he didn't send any of the bow ties and I appear to have got [507.27] Stephen: Three stack screws and not four and the fact that I don't have all the stack screws [512.87] Stephen: And I don't have the bow ties [515.43] Stephen: And it was only one package like it was all sealed up but in one package [519.67] Stephen: I think maybe it got ripped open and resealed halfway through and like no one fessed up [524.63] Stephen: Because it was with uh, whatever united states postal service for what seemed like an eternity and I think they just [531.19] Stephen: did what they're renowned to do and [533.03] Stephen: Dropped the ball and lost some bits and then swept what they could find and shoved it in the bag [538.23] Jack: What I don't understand about the us postal force [541.91] Jack: Is they drive everything across state to central hubs? [547.27] Jack: Yeah, then ship it out. It's mad like [550.87] Jack: Jesus and it just sits there for days [558.07] Stephen: Before it entered the system was like three weeks in fact i've got the um [562.15] Stephen: Got the update thing here the tracking history [566.07] Jack: Canada's post i'm shocked at how expensive it is for you [571.35] Koel: Well, it's really expensive to ship international [574.79] Koel: um, but I think there [577.35] Koel: Aren't most mail services like similar where you know, you go bring it somewhere [582.39] Koel: They bring it to a big central location. Then they dispatch it out. Like isn't that what you guys do in the uk? [588.07] Stephen: Yeah, but we're way faster like so he shipped it on the 14th shipping label created departed and then [596.37] Stephen: Eventually, it departed newark on august the first [600.23] Stephen: It took over two weeks to get from [603.57] Stephen: brooklyn [604.87] Stephen: to newark [606.31] Koel: That's like across the water basically. Yeah, that's like [609.99] Stephen: A mile or so across the water. It's an absolute joke like it went from new york [616.71] Stephen: To new jersey in two weeks [619.59] Koel: You can walk there a thousand times over in that amount of time. Yeah. Yeah [623.43] Stephen: It arrived in a month and on the first and it was at my door on the fourth by contrast [629.35] Curry: There is always a really really slow shipping like if you want to ship something internationally from the uk to america [635.35] Curry: There is a service which will take five to six weeks. I don't know how it does that [642.23] Curry: Yeah, even if you even you could row there [645.83] Curry: Like a couple of weeks. So yeah, what do I do with it exactly? I don't know [652.12] Koel: I think part of it too as far as like train before I row [656.12] Koel: Yeah, I think part of it too is like [658.84] Koel: Canada and america is like physically way larger than the uk. So I mean even though that distance [666.68] Stephen: Brooklyn to newark [668.68] Koel: How will they ever get there? [671.0] Koel: But I don't know. There's also like the population is crazy, too [674.04] Koel: Right, so they probably have way more packages to go through and they're probably getting shot at at the time. Yeah [680.12] Curry: Karen what's this the sensor prototype pack from seed with looks like it should contain health food or stuff [687.08] Curry: Yeah, I know it has a wio terminal. This is um, it's called a groove connector and this is their [694.04] Curry: loro board [696.36] Stephen: As as I found out today [700.04] Stephen: Screen driving it [702.28] Curry: Um, the the screen the screen is basically this little arduino compatible board [707.48] Curry: Uh, which has gpo pins the same as a raspberry pi it has some sensors on the back [712.68] Curry: So it has a exomerometer [714.92] Curry: And a light sensor in there and a sound sensor and then you can plug other things in here [719.88] Curry: which coincidentally [722.6] Curry: I have in here still falling out [726.6] Curry: in here [728.12] Curry: And the most exciting one in these is this [731.32] Curry: This is this ai camera thing. So you can train this to like recognize certain things [736.68] Curry: and um [737.8] Curry: That's for example the reason I was sending you a picture of it today. I was saying has anybody heard of laura when [743.56] Curry: And anybody in the chat heard of it this little [746.28] Curry: board which speaks 8 6 8 and it is just [750.68] Curry: A wired a wireless network and I was like, well, how's it going to connect? [755.08] Curry: And I plugged it in and there are 10 hotspots [758.04] Curry: Within like a mile of me [760.12] Curry: And it's just like how is this uploading data to the cloud? [764.12] Curry: Via advised it is somebody stupid [766.68] Curry: That's weird [768.12] Curry: Yeah, I mean it it's interesting because it talks about the rssi of the hotspots [774.68] Curry: And the dv and stuff like that. It's like this is really interesting. I mean [778.92] Curry: There's so many hotspots. It's like how is crossfire still working with all the 7 8 6 8 stuff going on [784.84] Stephen: Weird by blasting out one block that giant fan [788.6] Tony: Yeah, no wonder we're we're fail safe [792.68] Curry: Backwards into hills. Yeah, no wonder jack just flew backwards into a hill. He was scared off [798.76] Stephen: I reckon they can go you can do 5k 3 miles in urban areas and 10 miles or 15k in rural areas [806.36] Stephen: That's that's what they're saying because the [808.76] Curry: The idea of this is it's not for like doing video and stuff [812.6] Curry: It's literally for internet of things stuff where every hour you might say [818.28] Curry: on your soil sensor [821.32] Curry: I feel dry and send it off to the cloud and that comes back to some other device. It's super low power [828.28] Curry: Yeah, yeah, you can you can literally run it for a couple of years on a battery as a standalone thing [833.64] Curry: Which I thought was quite interesting [836.04] Koel: So the soil sensor sends information. Oh i'm dry then information goes back. Okay drip some water on it [842.92] Koel: Or yeah, I think that's you [844.68] Curry: I mean the idea of this sort of thing is to prototype a device so I can [848.76] Curry: I have a screen and I have buttons and stuff, but I can I can connect one of these other sensors to it [854.04] Curry: I've got this humidity sensor and obviously the camera which I think is the fun thing [858.36] Curry: And then I can I can get it to upload data somewhere and I can use that data and I thought potentially [864.92] Curry: You you could imagine this is functional on a quad. For example, if you're flying over [870.44] Curry: A field you might train it to say [873.48] Curry: Uh, there's some holes in this field. That's not good or how many sheep can you count? [877.72] Curry: Although how how you can get it not to double count a sheep might be interesting [881.48] Curry: But I thought it it's fun to play with so we'll play with it and I will make videos about it [886.52] Stephen: Great the brief that i'd heard in the kind of marketing spiel was something called a smart city [892.44] Stephen: Where they were going to dump sensors willy-nilly all over the place and run them off tiny solar cells [897.72] Stephen: and they're going to do stuff like measure traffic pollution [900.84] Stephen: and you know pollen levels and stuff like that and count rainfall and get [907.0] Stephen: Measurements of wind speed around buildings and stuff like that all sorts of things that they might want to know about a city [913.08] Tony: Quite interesting [916.6] Jack: Can we do um [918.12] Jack: Well, uh coal has got a subject that he's brought to the table [924.76] Jack: I'm the only one that [928.44] Stephen: It's the avatar [939.56] Koel: My question about that one is [942.12] Koel: Did they just team up and say let's call our products basically the same thing [946.68] Koel: But we're in competition with each other [949.48] Stephen: I don't know. I think it was definitely like kadak's trying to take away in their cornflakes [954.44] Stephen: Yeah [955.64] Stephen: Name was in use [958.44] Curry: So you gotta hand it to djo about making good promo videos [963.0] Tony: Oh, yeah, that goes for a lovely hours [966.68] Curry: That's fun. I could do one of those. I was like, oh hang on snap out of it [970.2] Curry: I've been sucked into the marketing here. It's a lump of expensive plastic [974.44] Tony: Plastic repeat after me. It's a lump of expensive plastic [983.48] Tony: If it can fly for 18 minutes [985.8] Tony: By definition video and you're on a video shoot and it can fly through walls and stuff like that and keep its [991.88] Tony: Level off the you know, I mean for like freestyle quads [995.0] Stephen: Of course, like the package like dji has it nailed when it comes to the whole package [999.48] Stephen: But if you want to use the system on a freestyle quad [1003.16] Tony: Well, you're not gonna freestyle that are you unless you're so there's going to be a version of it that's going to be coming out for [1014.2] Koel: I did see um, I don't know if you guys watched the rotor riot demo thing of it, but [1019.24] Koel: uh, basically [1021.0] Koel: They ended up uh, well bubby and uh dribba [1024.28] Koel: Yes, they they I mean they they changed the remote so you can actually fly in acro mode [1028.76] Koel: And drib was was freestyling it around and you can do flips and rolls and [1033.96] Koel: All kind of stuff, but it's obviously not designed for that because why would you though? Yeah. Yeah one crack [1040.76] Koel: I saw a lot of people like were basically saying like, oh, I don't think it can do acro [1044.92] Koel: I don't think in freestyle or anything with it [1046.52] Koel: But you know you you do have the ability to but I don't you know, I wouldn't do that [1051.56] Koel: I don't think after you've clicked through three displays [1055.8] Curry: I think the problem is that [1057.88] Curry: What stands out about those? [1059.96] Curry: As they are should be for people who want to do filming whilst around people [1065.24] Curry: But yeah loads and loads of people tend to buy them because they're like, oh look it's really protected [1069.64] Curry: It'll bounce off stuff. That'd be good [1071.24] Curry: Even though they fly like bloody bricks and stuff and a rubbish compared to a regular plastic, isn't it still cracks? [1077.16] Curry: Yeah, and the same people will buy this and say oh, this is brilliant. I can do [1081.88] Stephen: Acro stuff, but I don't know that they could say they'll never actually do it. It's like people who buy [1089.8] Stephen: Oh, I know it could do naught to 60 in three seconds, but they're not going to do [1094.36] Koel: And and I feel like people they're going to buy that they're not going to want to crack open their [1100.36] Koel: You know their radio [1102.04] Koel: You know unscrew it and then you know adjust the throttle [1104.6] Koel: I feel like a lot of people that this is aimed towards are not tinkery type people it's going to be for like [1110.12] Koel: The mavic or the dj [1112.12] Stephen: It's going to be someone who turns up with a crowd of everyone else flying mavics and phantoms and they'll be like I can do sports [1118.84] Koel: I can do fv [1121.32] Koel: Yeah, look at me with my remote my motion controller. Yeah, that's that's the only [1126.92] Tony: That's how it's getting solved at the moment. Isn't it? It's that [1130.28] Tony: The goggles and the motion controller you can't even [1133.64] Koel: Well, there's a there's a few different options like you can buy just the drone [1138.52] Koel: You can buy the drone with the motion controller and the goggles. You can apparently on amazon you can buy [1145.64] Koel: The new drone with the v2 goggles not the new goggles [1151.32] Koel: But yeah, it's weird [1152.52] Koel: But you can't actually buy it with the dji remote control like the actual standard remote [1158.2] Koel: So if you want to get that remote you have to buy it separately, which is like 250 bucks [1162.68] Koel: And that like so you can really only fly that drone right now [1165.72] Koel: Or you can only buy that drone with this little joint like the the vre type [1171.88] Curry: This is [1172.84] Curry: Super marketing from dji because they're like no one bought a stupid controller [1176.76] Curry: Let's force it into a bundle and then if they want the thing they actually need to use then they beg to buy an extra [1182.42] Curry: $250 for it [1183.72] Koel: Yeah, because you're not going to show up to you know [1185.8] Koel: If this is meant for like cine whoop style stuff, we're going to do some you know, some commercial work [1191.0] Koel: We're going to show up to event. Hey guys [1194.84] Koel: Let me get a [1197.72] Koel: Yeah [1199.4] Tony: Yeah, it doesn't I don't know. I mean I haven't seen any um, anyone fly it [1206.76] Tony: Properly or anything. I haven't seen any other videos apart from dji's video [1213.24] Tony: Yeah, I mean I haven't seen the right one or any other people doing doing flying it [1219.8] Koel: There's this canadian guy. Um [1222.28] Koel: Shoot, what is his name right now? Hold on. Uh, i'll remember it in two seconds. Um [1227.4] Curry: He's young for dementia [1229.64] Koel: Yes, what is his name? Oh, yeah, his name is maddie hypoya. Uh, he's [1235.24] Koel: I don't know how to spell it out [1236.36] Koel: But basically he did like some kind of promo video for it and he shows it flying all types of places and [1242.2] Koel: It looks pretty good. Not gonna lie like it [1244.68] Koel: He's like a filmmaker first. So obviously he can make it look really good with editing and [1249.16] Koel: And like color grades and whatnot, but I don't know man. I think that with the stabilization built-in on the camera [1255.64] Koel: It's you know, it takes away the need for a gopro if the camera's half decent then that's pretty good. It can do like [1262.28] Koel: 4k 60 [1263.96] Koel: Uh 2.7 k 120 [1266.44] Koel: like that's [1268.44] Tony: It's pretty decent but it is but it is decent but we'll have to say this [1273.4] Curry: I I watched a bit of the um wrote a right video, but obviously not all of it because I had to keep stabbing myself after [1281.24] Curry: But from what I saw the the image and the goggles look really good and the the camera looked really good [1286.68] Curry: And it's kind of like oh we'd like that on a regular quad [1290.44] Curry: Please cook up the beta flight and having an all-in-one camera that actually worked [1295.24] Curry: I think would would really please a lot of people because having to have like an expensive camera [1301.64] Curry: But you also need a gopro to do any decent filming is obviously a pain, isn't it? Yeah [1307.99] Tony: Yes, I mean see how it pans out [1310.55] Koel: It's gonna get a ton. Well, it's gonna read [1313.51] Koel: It's gonna give the whole fpv term a big buzz again [1316.95] Koel: especially for people that have no idea what it is because [1319.91] Koel: Everybody knows dji everybody knows what a drone is now, but now now they're gonna be like oh fpv and I can get into this for [1327.91] Koel: less than two grand [1330.47] Curry: Like sounds wrong somehow [1334.79] Curry: Do you remember all the videos like build a racing drone for a hundred dollars and it's like I can get in for this [1339.03] Curry: In less than two grand. Yeah [1341.99] Koel: Well, see, you know, I I totally man like you can build a simi web for less than like 500 bucks. Probably right like [1349.11] Koel: um, I guess maybe not including the gopro but um [1353.59] Koel: the amount of tinkering that's going to go along with having to get that up and running well [1357.99] Koel: and everything like I feel like people would easily pay the price to have a nice ready to go cine web that [1364.07] Koel: Looks amazing right out of the camera like right off the bat [1366.87] Curry: And I think especially the people that are coming from [1370.07] Curry: Like oh, I I like flying cinematic on my phantom or whatever, but this fpv stuff excites me [1375.99] Curry: But I hear it's difficult [1377.43] Curry: Did you release this thing and they're just gonna eat it up, aren't they because this is like, oh, yeah now i'm [1382.63] Curry: Now i'm a proper acro flyer [1384.95] Curry: But it's still within my ecosystem. It's still safe. I know what i'm doing. I trust dji and it's [1391.19] Curry: for people [1392.79] Curry: That think they're going to be doing acro flying that have just done cinematic flying [1397.27] Curry: They're they're totally on it [1399.75] Koel: Yeah [1400.79] Koel: Oh, that's interesting [1402.15] Koel: MKme lab says maybe you guys covered it but that footage in maddie employee's video has some funky warping [1408.79] Koel: Um, he mentioned it I guess [1410.63] Koel: Yeah, I feel like so here's the thing that camera only has a one axis gimbal on it [1416.15] Koel: So it's only stabilizing like up and down. Are they doing a digital though? [1421.19] Koel: Yeah, yeah, so one axis gimbal on the um on the camera [1425.75] Koel: Then digital stave for just you know, just to smooth things out [1429.91] Koel: But then they also have like the horizon steady or something [1433.27] Koel: So then if you want it to just stay flat like a regular quad or a regular camera drone [1438.23] Koel: it does it too, but I feel like the [1441.11] Koel: Any of the warping funky looking stuff is all going to be it's all going to be something to do with the stabilization [1447.35] Koel: Generally, that's that's what you'll get [1450.15] Jack: Or like a mixture of the super wide field of view and the stabilization. Yeah, i'm loving this how much cole's talking and the insight [1459.59] Jack: Well done cole [1462.55] Curry: Yeah, maybe there's something as as the lens moves up and down because that moves the distortions around as well because they said it had [1470.79] Curry: Was was that footage shown in roto riot with their um [1475.35] Curry: With their steady. I forgot what they call this steady now rock steady or something rock steady. Is that is that what it was? [1482.63] Curry: Because it looked I mean it looked okay, but it didn't look like it was smoothed out particularly. It was like [1488.71] Curry: It looked raw you could see stick movements going in it. Yeah [1491.99] Koel: Yeah, so in the roto riot one, it looked like there wasn't a stabilization on it. Definitely wasn't the horizon [1497.35] Koel: And I don't think even rock steady [1499.35] Koel: Um, but in the the video some of the maddy hapoya one [1502.63] Koel: His was like as stable as you can get and maybe even maybe even post stabilization too like [1510.07] Koel: Yeah [1512.15] Tony: Well, man [1515.83] Jack: Thanks [1518.07] Jack: Put that put that it'll be interesting to hear whether the editor leaves all of it. Yeah [1529.59] Koel: Yeah, see that's another thing too everyone loves to talk about gyro flow but [1535.43] Koel: I mean [1536.95] Koel: Okay, do you want to you want to shoot footage? [1540.79] Koel: You want to throw it into gyro flow and wait 10 million hours. I don't know how long it actually takes to [1546.31] Stephen: Do [1547.75] Koel: I've tried it a couple times [1549.91] Koel: So I mean just think about this so you shoot the footage [1553.67] Koel: You run it through gyro flow and that's for every clip you want to stabilize [1557.03] Koel: So that could be 10 20 clips per time you go out and fly [1561.19] Koel: That's a full additional step. That's going to take a long time then put it into your editor [1567.19] Koel: Right, like who's gonna want to do that? [1569.99] Tony: Just put just gopro does it while you're doing it [1573.43] Curry: It's like so easy after so for people that don't want to pay lots of money if you could buy a cheap camera [1579.51] Curry: That would work [1581.19] Curry: That'd be good. But as soon as you put on five inch spoilers for the next video coming up it gets the shakes back again [1587.59] Curry: but yeah, it is [1589.19] Curry: Anything that's extra step is is a slight pain in the ass. I feel if [1594.31] Curry: If you could trust gyro flow to say here is my clip press a button [1598.47] Curry: Wait 10 minutes and it comes it's not so bad [1602.23] Curry: Unless you're cold and you manage to fly 20 packs a day. Most of it is like oh, I threw four packs today [1607.03] Curry: cars like [1608.47] Curry: I just did 27 [1610.63] Koel: six [1612.63] Koel: Well, okay. So I was over exaggerating with the 10 and 20, but yeah [1617.03] Curry: it would be I [1618.55] Curry: I think less steps the better but gyro flow seems seems to be [1624.63] Curry: Catching on even more so um [1627.03] Curry: The camera hawkeye [1629.35] Curry: Heard of the hawkeye people they contact me today [1631.91] Curry: Asking if wanted to check out there they're compatible with gyro flow camera and I was like will it work on a five inch? [1638.87] Curry: They say yeah if you self mount it [1641.99] Curry: Okay, we'll we'll see [1644.47] Koel: Check this out. Um [1646.39] Tony: Let me pull it up here. Can I just interrupt quickly brandon bean says uh, gopro [1651.51] Tony: Hypus move sucks compared to a proper smoothing [1654.47] Tony: uh [1656.15] Tony: It depends on how you look at stuff because I think um [1660.55] Tony: Hypus move is great, but i've watched some [1664.39] Tony: Stuff which is overdone and it's just it. I think it looks really shh. I don't like it at all [1674.07] Curry: I think hyper smooth just looks just takes that little bits off it and I think it just looks [1679.67] Tony: Super and i'm perfectly happy with the stuff. I get out of it stuff overdone. It just looks too like [1686.15] Tony: People like do a dive and then it just it just looks I don't know. It just looks too [1691.03] Koel: That's sort of like weird pushy pulley look [1695.35] Tony: At all I don't like it at all. I prefer it a little bit more raw I suppose but [1701.83] Koel: Yeah, and then audio geck says I tried gyro flow again for the 10th time again problems happen. It's not [1708.87] Koel: It's not perfect and it's not [1711.03] Koel: Easy, but I don't know this is yeah, that's I don't know [1714.87] Koel: This was the video [1717.75] Koel: No, it's not the answer at all [1719.35] Koel: But if you if you're on a budget and you want to try stabilizing your footage [1724.39] Koel: All the power to you like if you have the patience if you have the processing power [1728.95] Tony: Seven years ago when I tried to fly stabilize footage. I literally had to learn how to fly smoothly [1736.63] Jack: Hello, yeah world. Eric has joined that was how I did it [1739.99] Tony: So it was nothing to do with there was no stabilization on on these on these little [1747.03] Tony: I mean [1749.59] Tony: fast move [1751.11] Koel: Yeah [1752.23] Koel: This looks pretty awesome. I like I mean, yeah, you can see some distracting stuff on the sides, but [1758.79] Koel: I mean people are mostly looking in the middle I think like [1762.79] Jack: You would think but then [1764.87] Jack: We're not normal people, you know where we are constantly shooting gaps and trying to get through stuff [1770.79] Jack: You need a normal human [1773.91] Tony: Well [1774.87] Koel: There's no yeah [1775.83] Koel: Well, the thing about the fpv community is everyone's looking at it with such a critical eye [1780.31] Koel: And like nitpicking the littlest things that literally don't [1784.31] Koel: Matter pardon my french, but like I feel like in all these fpv groups [1788.47] Koel: You just see people nitpicking and bitching about stuff. That's like [1791.91] Koel: Does it doesn't even matter like fly have fun does the photos look good? Okay, that's sweet carry on like [1799.11] Jack: but that's just my [1801.27] Jack: From your [1802.47] Jack: From your max brilliant [1805.03] Jack: Not like your slideshow. It's actually quite good. I mean there's a few stars here and there but [1811.19] Jack: Yeah, that's good. He's terrible. I think it's always been about [1816.55] Stephen: The wind the size of the window you play in [1819.19] Jack: Yeah [1833.27] Frank: This episode was recorded in front of a live online audience downloaded and edited to make sense when it's played audio only [1839.99] Frank: Censored to please the itunes people hosted on the internet forwarded through to your podcast provider [1844.71] Frank: Downloaded playing on your device and is now playing in your ears all thanks to our patreons [1850.55] Frank: Consider joining them and you'll also get other online benefits find out more at patreon.com [1856.87] Frank: Let's drone out [1858.87] Jack: Oh, did you see the dangly bit under the bridge? Yep. Yeah, he totally avoided that. Yeah, I saw that right here [1867.51] Jack: Yeah [1869.99] Koel: I mean i'm pretty sold on it man. I mean like if [1874.23] Curry: It sounds like you've pre-ordered it now [1876.31] Tony: You gotta remember this is a probe probably flying this is it [1881.67] Eric: Good though [1883.91] Eric: Yeah, that's a lot of coke money, you know [1887.59] Eric: Two batteries in the drone you're into 1600 us dollars plus shipping plus tax. Yeah. Yeah [1895.75] Stephen: Who's eric? [1898.63] Jack: Yeah, eric is from make me laugh he does a lot of electronic reviews. He's a massive friend of the show [1907.03] Jack: He's been on a few times [1909.03] Jack: Yeah, is he right to kill your shared screen girl? Yeah, man. Sorry for my ignorant. Sorry. I hadn't met him before. Hello, eric [1918.87] Jack: Yeah, this is [1920.87] Jack: Yeah, this is belrig or steven [1923.59] Jack: He's uh, are you is it fair to say you're express lrs [1928.29] Jack: Developer and you help out and beat your flight [1931.75] Stephen: I'm not a developer for elrs. If you're talking to me, i'm not nice [1935.51] Tony: But I did get that pr into beta flight. So i've got like you've got a lovely beard though [1942.15] Tony: Seconded [1943.51] Stephen: Yeah, so beta flight 4.4 is going to have like the craft name injection stuff now [1948.71] Stephen: I managed to fix a bug in that as well because for some reason dji thinks that the string is one character shorter [1956.31] Stephen: And instead of truncating it one character shorter it truncates it five characters shorter and then adds in loads of dots [1963.03] Stephen: Just just the worst way of doing it. So you have to work [1966.23] Stephen: anyway, so [1969.43] Stephen: Take on this like is that [1971.43] Stephen: A polished bit of promo footage that you could have gotten if you had a big budget and any other drone or is there something that's unique [1978.23] Stephen: about that [1979.35] Eric: I'm no expert [1981.51] Eric: I I just looked at it and I like the footage. I like the model. I love the goggles [1987.59] Eric: I am sold at that right there that way. Let's go [1992.31] Eric: Just the size [1993.91] Eric: I can put the like i'm if you guys saw the equipment i'm running actually these guys know what I run [1998.95] Eric: I run ancient old red bottom 210 quads made with ancient gear and i'm still rocking original dominator sees [2007.91] Eric: and [2008.71] Eric: Wow, those goggles will fit in my bag and replace those old dominators and I could finally leap into the 2000s but [2016.47] Eric: For that much money. No way [2018.47] Stephen: This are you worried about the non-replaceable antennas because that's one quick jamming in a bag accident away from ruining goggles [2026.15] Eric: Uh, you have to look at my channel. I [2028.79] Eric: Don't worry about the electronic side at all. I I can deal with that the consumers the average person [2034.55] Eric: Absolutely. That's a real concern, but i'm yeah [2039.51] Curry: It's just another way to sell the the sorry [2042.23] Curry: I was just gonna say is this just another way of dji to sell that aftercare service which everyone seems very keen on [2048.95] Curry: If uh, if they're going to smash things up [2051.99] Koel: Yeah [2053.51] Koel: Could be I mean well, so just a sort of butt in there the uh, the antennas actually are [2059.75] Koel: Replaced you can actually take them on and off. So they technically are replaceable [2064.15] Koel: Um, but they use some kind of weird connector. I saw someone I saw a video of them [2069.35] Koel: Well proprietary [2071.27] Koel: I don't think it's proprietary, but there's going to be a bunch of [2074.95] Jack: Resign the sort of sada that would actually go. Oh, that's a [2079.43] Jack: micro [2080.87] Jack: m [2081.75] Jack: mcxi px connector or you know, yeah, let me pull it up here. Um [2086.95] Jack: Cool. Eric's just vomited in his mouth [2089.99] Eric: Do you want to know what actually got me to click the link to go to dji's website? [2094.39] Eric: It wasn't the first side of the goggles. It wasn't the first the footage. It wasn't the quad [2099.43] Eric: It was when I saw the goggles up close and I saw the knobs on it and then when maddie [2105.67] Eric: Or yeah, was it maddie's video when they covered the diopter and then they discovered then they mentioned the focus snob [2112.23] Eric: I clicked the link to dji's website right then and there it was the focus. I'm like, this is this is the key [2119.51] Eric: Um, but the rest is still a hell of a lot of money [2123.91] Koel: It is but I guess [2126.23] Koel: It is a lot of money. But okay, think about this if you build a cine book [2130.39] Koel: You buy a you know, the hero 10 bones or something equivalent [2134.87] Koel: You know plus the digital goggles all the system all the like the video transmission system [2140.63] Koel: it's [2141.83] Koel: I don't know. I it all adds up no matter which way you look at it, right? Like [2146.15] Eric: But it is a lot much though [2148.39] Koel: Yeah [2151.43] Koel: I I would say it's probably you can probably get into the digital system and build a cine book and be ready to go [2157.75] Koel: For probably like at least 500 bucks less than that [2161.27] Eric: Yeah [2162.07] Eric: Us and that's worth worth 30 cents on the dollar here in canuckistan. So [2167.91] Koel: Oh, yeah. Yeah. Well, i'm oh you're in canada as well. Yeah [2171.43] Eric: So okay major delta to us money i'm in safe question. Ontario [2175.83] Koel: Oh me too, man. I'm in toronto [2177.83] Eric: Oh, and i'm in guardridge not far from me. I have three hours. Oh, no way. That's my world [2183.27] Stephen: Jessup's there as well. What is this one in the uk? [2186.31] Eric: That's a uk one. Yeah [2188.87] Eric: That was about of course, you know plus a couple of batteries, right? [2193.19] Curry: So yeah, I think the difference is col for for guys like us is [2197.51] Curry: We've already got a bunch of quads and a bunch of goggles and radios [2201.43] Curry: And the problem for us then is it's like you don't get like oh you've already got this stuff [2205.35] Curry: Then you just need this if you've coming into it from fresh [2210.31] Curry: And you've just had like a [2212.53] Curry: Cinematic dji or something then yeah, it's probably seemed quite attractive [2215.91] Curry: But it's hard [2217.11] Curry: It's kind of hard to justify because it's like oh i've got all this stuff and this works with [2222.39] Curry: All my other stuff, but I want this thing which only works with this thing, which is really expensive [2228.07] Stephen: It's like a controller as well [2230.55] Stephen: I've got a pair of goggles analog they fly like 10 of my quads 15 of them [2235.75] Stephen: And then i've got a pair of dji goggles that are good for another 15 quads [2240.71] Stephen: I'm, not going to take a pair of goggles and have them just for one quad [2243.83] Stephen: Just like i'm not going to take a radio and only have it work with one quad [2247.91] Stephen: And be taking that thing in and out of my bag the whole time [2250.95] Stephen: What are we doing that guy? [2252.71] Koel: I just see um the removable antennas [2255.99] Stephen: So they are removable because they were saying they were non-removable. What connector is by? [2260.95] Koel: Okay, so [2262.31] Koel: There's two apparently there's two [2265.99] Koel: Yeah, there's two patch antennas on the inside that you can't remove and then there's um, these two that are that are removable [2273.75] Jack: So like okay [2275.19] Jack: That's bad [2276.23] Jack: Just make me labs just looking at that going my drill [2280.31] Eric: And some estimate it looks like an s it looks like an sma to me [2285.03] Jack: They said that it's not [2287.75] Stephen: That's the walk snail, isn't it? [2291.19] Curry: Yeah [2292.31] Curry: Did you see the most important thing that would put us off over here where they talk about the range and they say it's 10 k [2297.67] Curry: Range and then there's a little bit of text saying c 2k [2301.27] Curry: Oh, yeah [2302.87] Tony: We get cut down. Would you fly that thing that far? [2306.95] Tony: I mean personally whenever i've done cine whoops, it's just been through buildings and [2312.31] Tony: very low and slow and [2314.63] Jack: Well, that's how you need the penetration mode, don't you? [2318.07] Tony: Yeah, but that's what i'm getting. I I get that but will that will it will it penetrate night? [2325.75] Tony: As much as we want it to [2329.09] Curry: That's what she said [2333.57] Tony: I've been crashing that all night and no one's heard it. But yes, that's what she said [2338.45] Tony: I mean well that this is what we're gonna have to find out in the next few weeks [2341.81] Stephen: I suppose I want to see whether that comes as like [2345.09] Stephen: An a 19 mil camera or a 20 mil camera [2349.41] Stephen: And if it does how much that's going to cost [2353.17] Stephen: And there's been this fake [2355.41] Stephen: We might make this compatible with the v2 goggles kind it could come it could it might maybe [2363.01] Stephen: but zero commitment and loads of conjecture which [2367.17] Stephen: Well, it's like these politicians, isn't it unless they swear on their mum's life that they're going to do it. They're not going to do it [2373.65] Tony: But now it's from what i've heard [2377.49] Stephen: I said the press statement saying they could do it in future [2381.89] Koel: Oh [2382.93] Koel: You start off. Yeah, they said yeah, they say it's at the moment [2386.45] Koel: It's not but we're going to listen to all of our people and it could be available in a firmware update. Yeah [2392.45] Curry: what I do like about a new dgo release is [2395.97] Curry: Someone's going to buy and there's always videos that come out within like a couple of weeks on youtube [2401.41] Curry: And just says look how far I can fly it and then they lose it which is always hilarious [2405.41] Curry: It's like certainly right. I yeah, even with like the inspires. There's like two guys flying inspires [2410.45] Curry: Let's see how far we can go. It's like oh i've lost something's gone wrong. So [2415.33] Tony: Apparently it's got returns at home, but would that work through a building? [2421.33] Eric: That's after all the movies they've got all the b-roll they need they've got all the footage they need now they can start to play [2428.93] Eric: And then they lose it [2432.45] Tony: Uh digby dan says it's an mm mmcn connector in goggles [2440.37] Curry: That's quite difficult to [2442.37] Curry: That's something I wouldn't like to pull on the antenna bit because that's quite [2445.73] Curry: To get it out, isn't it? Yeah, interesting. It looked larger [2449.17] Eric: It looked to me like an smade but with spring loaded on the outside like an old coaxial [2455.09] Eric: Spring-loaded outer connector that you can just slide on but I guess yeah, it looks it looks like [2461.49] Jack: Mini, you know like the [2464.53] Jack: Yeah, the [2467.3] Jack: um the sma push [2470.1] Jack: like [2471.38] Jack: You know test equipment with the balon sort of you know, like the old martone stuff [2477.14] Jack: You know, I say old that just before they start but [2482.18] Jack: Yeah, I don't know [2484.98] Jack: It's just like another connector to deal with as well [2488.34] Tony: Oh so annoying, isn't it? We're just it's just we all live on the same flat plane [2494.98] Jack: and [2497.06] Tony: Let's just have the same bloody thing [2500.1] Jack: For everything. Yeah, come on. Everything's got to get smaller. We've got to mess with it [2504.74] Tony: No, just so annoying that you've got to have 10 different things [2508.58] Tony: all the time [2509.78] Tony: I have a new question [2511.94] Eric: For all you experts. I'm sure there's another noob that'll watch this later [2516.42] Eric: So now that i've seen these goggles and I really like them [2520.1] Eric: I like this might actually get me to go digital if I did [2524.1] Eric: What are my options for a vtx right now to work with those to put on my existing? [2531.94] Stephen: Nothing we're in a situation now where like this is [2536.5] Stephen: Yeah, that walk smell system was supposed to drop at christmas [2539.62] Stephen: And so they released early to try and pip these guys to the post to get the sales, right? [2544.98] Stephen: So the smart thing to do now is if you don't need to make a decision now [2549.62] Stephen: Just wait until christmas see how it all comes out. See what the next firmware release does [2555.54] Stephen: Is it? [2556.74] Stephen: Compatible with other dji previous products. Does it perform better? [2562.1] Stephen: Look at what walk snail are doing [2564.5] Stephen: See if they're managing to get beyond this kind of late stage prototype that they're working with [2570.02] Stephen: And then there's ht zero who are kicking around a few ideas [2572.74] Stephen: Just wait for the dust to settle unless you've got money to throw around, right? [2576.34] Stephen: If you've got a thousand local currency units burning a hole in your pocket then go for it [2582.02] Stephen: But if you don't maybe just wait till the new year [2586.58] Eric: I think I think you definitely should wait [2589.78] Eric: I'm in no rush. I'm still running red bottoms [2593.22] Jack: Right [2595.22] Jack: Just you might as well [2597.86] Stephen: Bottom coat that jack's been like [2600.34] Stephen: Kind of masterminding from the shadows. He's got coal [2604.18] Stephen: It's got you and you're all like running old emacs red bottom motors and you're running pdb's with osd on them [2610.9] Tony: Jack is the red bottom [2614.26] Stephen: Are you trying to beat up on a mountain site once a year in robes or something? [2619.38] Stephen: No [2621.14] Stephen: No, I killed my red bottoms recently. That's exactly what you'd say if you actually bet on a mountain site in robes. Exactly [2628.26] Jack: I know you have to get a t-shirt with like a motor on the red bottom and it just says [2634.82] Tony: I still got some on my quads [2639.19] Tony: Yeah, I never had them [2641.83] Tony: So left out 2600 kv [2645.03] Tony: Um actor and still carillon flying [2648.63] Tony: Hmm [2651.27] Jack: Cheese [2652.31] Tony: Yeah, that's that's the only problem. Yeah, they were the first lot were really good [2657.43] Stephen: And then I think they were like a bad alloy. What was it soft aluminium soft? Yeah, it was soft [2663.83] Tony: But but the first lot were really good [2666.39] Tony: They like literally had i've got motors with dirt in them and they still fly brilliantly [2671.91] Tony: So I think it went [2674.39] Tony: I think they sold a lot and then went. Oh, let's make some more money [2678.71] Tony: Well [2680.15] Jack: What it actually was was they got clones [2684.15] Tony: and [2685.99] Tony: You did that did happen [2688.15] Jack: Yeah, and they it was so hard to tell [2692.47] Jack: Like the the clones and the real thing i've got I agree [2697.27] Jack: I have got a photo on my phone [2699.99] Jack: The way to tell was you would have a large gap between the the rotor and the stator [2706.55] Jack: and [2708.23] Jack: You know with the early early, uh red bottoms [2712.79] Jack: They they didn't they weren't laser etched. They had a sticker [2717.43] Jack: and [2718.23] Jack: Then they moved to laser etch [2720.87] Jack: And then with the with the laser etch [2724.23] Jack: It was more of a clear text and it was slightly whiter whereas the [2728.71] Jack: The other ones were kind of a bit more sort of like rusty color [2732.63] Jack: but I have got a photo [2736.15] Jack: um [2737.19] Jack: the [2738.31] Jack: Because like I was I was the guy who leaked like how to [2742.71] Jack: Tell if you had a cloned [2745.19] Tony: I remember that [2746.87] Tony: Because the shop you're working in was importing [2750.23] Jack: What [2752.23] Jack: Yeah, I yeah, so I leaked you know, I leaked it to old um [2757.59] Jack: Oscar lang i'm, sorry, you're gonna have to deal [2760.79] Stephen: If you ever cloned what you stopped mid sentence [2764.23] Jack: Um clone nays 32 [2767.67] Stephen: But does it work better if you're a cloned one? [2770.55] Jack: No, no [2772.95] Jack: So yeah, I can I can upload that picture to um [2777.43] Jack: Yeah [2779.43] Jack: Uh instagram, but as you can see [2782.31] Tony: Jack sounds like an expert off of the antiques road show [2787.03] Stephen: You can tell by the delicate patina on the bottom that these are the true rs [2792.37] Stephen: 2205 [2794.15] Stephen: Early model, I believe possibly the b series [2797.83] Jack: All right. Yeah, maybe it is a cult [2802.71] Jack: Now you mention it i've invented a cult [2807.35] Tony: That was like six years ago [2809.75] Jack: Probably I know I need to let it go, but I was just so annoyed with like stop importing [2818.87] Stephen: But yeah, there are [2820.55] Stephen: I mean there are better motors, right? There may have been the peak of what motors were like five years back and they were [2826.23] Jack: They were the thing was when they came out make me laugh will back me up [2831.43] Jack: The power on the rc workbench was incredible [2836.15] Stephen: I thought video if i'm saying it was five years ago, right? [2840.31] Stephen: Now you can run something like that with like I've got the rcm power [2844.53] Stephen: 2105s was running them on a lightweight build with 6s and absolutely ripped [2851.09] Stephen: absolutely ripped and [2853.75] Tony: Do you remember jack in the um in in your uh workplace us running 5s [2861.49] Tony: 2600 kv on a [2863.65] Tony: On a [2866.13] Tony: On a timer thing. It was it was pulling [2869.49] Tony: Good for a long time. It was [2872.13] Tony: They were good. I have a good motors [2878.13] Jack: Little v30 amp [2880.13] Jack: Yeah with a red bottom [2882.67] Jack: 23 [2884.05] Stephen: Where would you go from now? Right people have improved their tolerances. You can get the magnets closer to the to the stator [2890.45] Jack: Oh, yeah, it's night night and day now. You wouldn't bother, you know, it's so what what you're gonna buy now, like now it's [2897.55] Stephen: 2022 [2898.93] Tony: pasting it [2902.37] Jack: Simple it's just like what you can actually get hold of because everything's god [2910.93] Jack: Their quality, you know, like the f40 f60s [2916.85] Stephen: But they're consistent [2919.25] Jack: Yeah [2921.89] Jack: Yeah, you can't get them and they only kind of seem to have in stock [2927.25] Jack: the lux ones [2929.49] Jack: then [2930.53] Stephen: Everyone's kind of it's a flux like a budget range compared to the f range then. Yeah [2936.21] Stephen: Yeah [2937.25] Jack: But they're really good [2939.89] Tony: For us, uh [2942.13] Jack: No is anymore well, if you if you look at coal, yeah, I saw gold flying the phaloxis. Are they 22 oh sevens? [2951.07] Jack: 2206 2400 kv. Yeah, so he's running the edge of what? [2957.01] Jack: the [2957.97] Jack: uh kiss 24 amp [2960.29] Jack: ESCs are rated for [2962.45] Jack: So he's absolutely [2964.69] Jack: Yeah [2968.93] Jack: Yeah [2972.45] Curry: I can get me on a flight controller where you have to buy a separate osd board. I'm sorry [2977.57] Stephen: It just has all it's too old. I'm writing an osd on my fc. I'm not even using it [2983.65] Stephen: I've got dji [2985.01] Stephen: It's still got no idea [2988.37] Jack: Yeah [2989.57] Koel: Well, because i'll just have it built in right? So yeah [2993.01] Jack: And a lot, you know, once you move the digits all about you've got your own osd within the [2998.69] Jack: Within the ecosystem. Yeah [3001.41] Jack: so you don't even [3005.09] Jack: You know, it was a different time back then it was a different time. Definitely [3009.49] Jack: Definitely when motors had red bottoms and now motors don't even have bottoms at all [3015.33] Jack: When some flight controllers were f1s [3019.97] Eric: That gear has some advantages for people [3022.93] Eric: I haven't even flown in a year [3025.25] Eric: And I pulled mine out last night and charged everything up and I think I built that blue falcon quad [3030.69] Eric: Five years ago with those red bottoms on it and it's been through a war [3034.45] Eric: But because there's so much gap between the magnets and and the the windings [3040.61] Eric: It doesn't even matter. I spun them last night and there's no grinding or anything out of them [3044.45] Eric: They've been sitting for a year. The bearings are fine and i'm gonna go out and fly it tomorrow [3049.49] Eric: I hope for the first time in a year and i'll do the same again. It'll sit for another year [3054.37] Eric: Ancient gear, but it's bulletproof [3056.93] Eric: Still works. Yeah, and it's paid for [3059.65] Eric: Yeah, yep [3061.25] Tony: Always gold [3062.69] Stephen: So I was going to say i've got a 45 amp kiss [3065.57] Stephen: Esc and then i'm ready to go [3067.97] Jack: Just need to slap motors on that. Is it a kiss or is it? [3071.25] Stephen: Um, well, it's one of the fat act ones [3073.57] Jack: Yeah [3075.01] Stephen: Yeah, that's going to be the uh [3077.07] Stephen: 1100 kv build [3080.21] Stephen: And 1100 kv 5 inch because reasons [3084.69] Tony: It's unknown to man. Yeah fly longer [3090.13] Curry: So what have you been flying playing with chainsaws or [3094.85] Curry: stuff with pies [3096.53] Stephen: most rustling [3097.89] Eric: All the above I was uh, I worked on the off-grid camp. I got like [3103.73] Eric: 300 gigs of footage for [3106.45] Eric: From the summer of for the make me outdoors channel on yeah [3110.13] Eric: I built up an old bush tractor through the summer so I can work over there and [3115.65] Eric: Set up a kilowatt of solar on it and i've been working on some home automation stuff here at home [3121.73] UNKNOWN: and [3122.61] Stephen: Relamp [3125.65] Eric: Uh, just home assistant basic stuff. I got a whole pile of crap to add on to the house [3131.97] Eric: I did all my blinds last week with synza [3136.21] Eric: motorized blinds and i'm gonna [3139.25] Eric: Pimp the pie that's running it and do some videos on it [3143.65] Stephen: Because i've never done that blinds. I've got the ikea ones. Luckily. Uh have the right size [3150.05] Stephen: Windows for those but yeah, there's a plethora of motorized blinds and it's like going into quad parts with motorized blinds [3156.69] Stephen: Where you look all the crazy motor assemblies and sensor assemblies [3161.25] Tony: I think [3162.45] Tony: Who's eating online company out there of ala white blinds? Uh on the ala white? [3168.53] Koel: I think I don't know anything about blinds [3171.49] Tony: I mean this is this is a uh drone ish podcast [3176.77] Stephen: We can talk about so the sensor ones where you like retrofit a motor to the existing like blind chain thing [3184.29] Eric: Yeah, I have many blinds here in canada. We all have many blinds instead of the european [3190.77] Eric: Kind of way of doing external shutters. Yeah [3193.81] Stephen: Yeah, we do that too [3194.85] Stephen: We kind of went that route because we don't get well until recently we didn't get the crazy temperatures that mean you need external shutters [3201.33] Stephen: After the summer maybe we will but yeah [3204.37] Eric: Now apart from that I did I got it [3206.61] Eric: I got a resin printer and a wash station a few weeks ago to finally break into that so I can [3212.29] Eric: Make some more useful parts which also for quads here and there but not so much [3217.65] Eric: And I set up a resin printing station in my shop and i've been you guys have probably seen i've been reviewing laser cutters [3223.97] Eric: A lot lately and i've got like five more inbound because everybody and their brother is making them. I figured [3231.09] Eric: Nobody's gonna review them [3232.93] Eric: Objectively, honestly because what i'm seeing in the background is these companies are crooked as [3239.01] Stephen: Bad that's holding me off getting one. I wanted my wife to get a laser cutter so she can cut stuff in the shed [3244.77] Stephen: But she was worried about catching fire [3247.33] Eric: yeah, the [3249.25] Eric: These companies like the one big one that your wife would have seen and stuff that's marketed towards soccer moms right now that company is [3258.29] Eric: Even I reviewed their product. I'm starting to question whether i'm gonna take that video down [3264.93] Eric: Yeah, so fire risk [3267.33] Eric: no [3268.69] Stephen: shady [3270.05] Stephen: Business practices really I just looked at a whole bunch on like aliexpress and stuff. I didn't go for any kind of big name products [3278.21] Eric: They all have the same fire risk with the exception of the brand new ones that now have flame and heat [3283.79] Eric: Detection the one I just reviewed that the video is up on my channel [3287.09] Eric: It has both flame and heat and it works now that with the new firmware upgrade and that's good [3292.69] Eric: But they're always safe. You're cutting material with fire [3296.13] Eric: It is what it is, right? You better sit there. I'm watching you have to you cannot walk away [3301.57] Eric: And and you got to be aware of what you're cutting too [3303.81] Eric: And they're not telling people this like you cut vinyl you cut pbc. Well, it gives off nice chlorine gas. That's [3311.17] Eric: bad news [3315.49] Eric: Yeah, so we'll see I figured if and if no one was going to review this stuff objectively then I might as well [3321.25] Eric: So I accepted a bunch of them and I'll run them through [3324.53] Stephen: There's definitely some temptation seeing how cheap laser stuff is online and think of maybe [3330.85] Stephen: Then you go and look for information. There's nothing. There's just nothing [3335.65] Jack: Uh, make me laugh. Um, you know flight test foam boards [3339.97] Jack: Does that release chlorine gas? [3342.61] Eric: No [3343.65] Eric: I don't know because I don't know what's in it [3346.53] Jack: I've cut out foam board here [3350.13] Jack: It's like the the [3352.85] Jack: The paper doesn't peel off and I know that that does release chlorine gas [3358.13] Jack: But I don't know about flight test stuff [3361.01] Stephen: Well, it's also about volume of chlorine, isn't it foam is not very dense material and you can safe it [3367.25] Eric: The only danger is to your to your laser like I cut [3372.05] Eric: pounds and pounds and pounds of chlor of pvc [3375.01] Eric: Through the pandemic because I was making covet face shields for all the businesses in town here when you couldn't get them [3381.49] Eric: The just the splash shield style and I was cutting overhead projector sheets [3385.89] Eric: There's my age those things he used to put on the wall in school [3390.29] Eric: Well, I found those sheets still all dusty at the local business and I was cutting those they're pvc [3397.09] Eric: So it's it gave off a heck of a lot of chlorine and all it does is chew up. It just [3401.97] Eric: Oxidizes and rushes your laser it but if you vent it like mine's enclosed and I vent it outside [3408.21] Eric: There's no risk, but if you don't know that if you're say a soccer mom with a brand new x tool [3416.45] Eric: You can really hurt yourself and your kids [3419.65] Stephen: Yeah, I think my my wife's safe there. She's she's not a soccer mom. She's got a lathe out there at the moment [3425.01] Stephen: There you go. She's doing all right [3427.97] Eric: No, it's yeah, it's a neat industry [3430.45] Eric: but it they don't cross over as much into the quads as [3434.37] Eric: Like the co2 lasers and stuff where you can cut acrylic [3437.81] Eric: I use the cases on that for my rescue stuff that I was carrying with quads [3443.09] Eric: And but the diode lasers they can't cut acrylic [3448.34] Stephen: So do you see and see meling as well? [3451.14] Eric: I just started a little bit. I have a 30 18 I built last winter and I haven't really used it much [3457.94] Eric: yet [3459.62] Eric: It's on the schedule [3463.46] Stephen: So many tools are suddenly affordable, aren't they now like arduino's are prevalent and the firmware stabilized it's tempting [3470.26] Eric: You can make anything at home now [3472.5] Eric: Like it's it's nutty. It's pretty cool. And that's why i'm working on the shop [3476.26] Eric: I'm going to put down some tile floor out there to make it look good for a little bit better for videos and [3482.1] Eric: Just want to share [3483.46] Eric: Make it all flamethrower [3485.62] Eric: Yeah, well that actually the that's another thing [3488.26] Eric: I see these all these videos on these and no one ever mentions the fire risk [3492.1] Eric: So i've got a call into my insurance company to find out [3495.46] Eric: Will it void my insurance? Good question. Well, I think it might [3500.5] Jack: Yeah, because if you don't remember the um, the flight test guys had a pretty big fire [3506.74] Jack: And there's a lot of them wandering around [3509.78] Jack: by that that laser wasn't [3512.66] Jack: Back in the day wasn't really left on its own very much [3518.82] Stephen: If there's just a couple of you in the house, you've got to think about that stuff for sure [3522.5] Stephen: Maybe put an amount building rather than something connected to the main home [3526.1] Jack: The very least and the trouble is with laser cutting you you've got to be careful what? [3531.06] Jack: Smoke alarm you use because you'll get a load of false [3535.06] Jack: um false alarms that will just annoy you and then [3539.14] Tony: Then you turn it off and then they're very real fire [3542.82] Eric: Never walk away from a laser cutter period [3545.54] Eric: Never take your eyes off of it because it goes from [3548.58] Eric: A small little flame to fully engulfed in a blink because the heat is just incredible there, right? [3554.58] Stephen: So we love the old data centers. You've got a big halon switch next to the door. He's like i'm out here [3561.06] Eric: Now you're talking a little halon switch or a dump a co2 from a paintball [3566.02] Eric: Uh gun that's what I was looking at making and just having the holy [3570.34] Jack: Yeah, those halon man, but I remember there was an aerosol [3574.5] Jack: co2 [3583.86] Jack: The race car guys, you know, like they've got a pull outside switch with the fire extinguisher thing [3590.74] Jack: and that releases a load of [3593.14] Jack: Phone maybe you could buy the setup for that but then hook it up to co2 instead [3598.5] Jack: You can make it pretty easy [3600.26] Stephen: You can get cheap co2 extinguishers [3602.82] Stephen: Just don't buy the tiny ones designed for domestic residences. Just get the full size ones [3608.02] Stephen: The tiny ones are kind of a false economy [3611.3] Eric: I thought about doing the same over my charge area where I charge my lipos in the house in the basement because it's [3617.78] Eric: I really shouldn't where I am but [3621.38] Eric: I thought about putting something like that there where it can at least buy some time [3625.62] Eric: It's not going to extinguish the lipo obviously, but it'll at least give me time [3631.22] Stephen: Well, the good thing about co2 is it doesn't just blanket but it actually cools stuff [3636.34] Stephen: So you stand a chance of actually like doing, you know, thermally controlling the fire rather than just starving of oxygen [3644.1] Eric: Yeah, I have mine on [3646.02] Eric: That's really primitive, but I have all my battery charge stations on [3652.26] Eric: Cookie trays from I was going to say frying pans. Yeah, and I [3657.46] Eric: Like I only charge when i'm within 20 feet of it [3659.86] Eric: I can carry that cookie tray above my head outside the door with all the charger and batteries on it. I've ditched it [3666.58] Eric: I've tried yeah and just [3668.02] Tony: Wait, I had a I've had a lipo fire luckily [3670.74] Tony: I was sitting in the same room while I was charging and it leaped off the fireplace onto my carpet left them [3677.86] Tony: Really big burn if I wasn't there [3680.18] Tony: Upstairs having a pee or whatever it would have caught the house on fire very quickly [3684.5] Tony: Luckily, I was there and I just grabbed it [3687.3] Tony: Locked it out in the garden and stamped out the fire on my carpet [3691.38] Tony: um, and since then i've always charged in a frying pan if i'm indoors or [3698.5] Tony: um [3699.38] Tony: mostly outdoors [3701.3] Stephen: I've i've got to promote bat box again. If you can get the bat safes [3706.02] Stephen: Frank's got one. I know [3708.42] Jack: I think you've got one as well jack there. I've got a giant one. Yeah [3713.3] Stephen: They allow it to burn but they've got vents so they allow the gas to come out [3718.74] Stephen: So it doesn't explode and allow the flames out just allows venting of the fumes [3724.42] Tony: I use [3726.98] Tony: Can someone put his little thing up look [3730.5] Tony: Um, my mate had a lipo fire the other week 1700 pounds worth of damage [3736.5] Tony: He used 2,000 [3738.82] Tony: 17,000 grand. Sorry [3744.26] Stephen: You can get these guys for about 20 quid apiece [3747.3] Jack: but the the trouble is with those is [3750.02] Jack: with ammo boxes [3751.94] Jack: All the ammo boxes are designed to do is protect the ammunition from the outside world. Yes. Yes [3759.54] Jack: And they're not designed for like containing stuff [3763.78] Jack: And you need to remove part of the seal so that there's a vent there [3768.74] Jack: because if you don't has anyone seen the video of a lipo going off in there and it's just like [3774.58] Tony: The the box just jumps in the air and smashes around. I must admit all mine are outside in an ammo box in a plastic bench [3783.46] Tony: so [3784.58] Tony: Like I know it. Yeah, exactly. And the ammo box is present for a bending it from the outside. I will not keep a [3792.34] Tony: Um any lipos in my house whatsoever after what I experienced luckily I was there everything's outside if it burns outside [3800.9] Tony: everything goes up together I'll start again, but [3805.86] Eric: You brought up a good point tony of the the fact that it jumped off [3810.02] Eric: That's something that most don't consider including myself because my my oh i'm clever i'm using this cool tray [3818.18] Eric: I have no protection from that. It's actually on an elevated platform about chest level [3823.46] Eric: And they could do the jump and end up on the floor [3826.82] Eric: But in my it's an unfinished floor area, but still the same thing like they can physically move on their own [3832.5] Jack: Yeah, it jumps about four foot. Yeah, I think the trick is [3837.38] Jack: like listening to the old fight testing I think [3841.46] Jack: It might be well worth either [3844.1] Jack: molding [3845.54] Jack: um a plaster sort of enclosure or getting plasterboard and making yourself an enclosure for charging [3853.94] Jack: And they done a neat thing where they had like cinder blocks and they had sand bags [3860.02] Jack: On top in plastic sand and if it did go it would melt the plastic and then the sand would fall [3866.58] Jack: Because I remember like frank talking about it and he asked the fire brigade to these lipo fire extinguishers work [3873.86] Jack: And they go no all they're designed for is to stop other things being on fire [3879.38] Jack: Because lipo is the self-oxidizing [3884.34] Jack: Continue to burn yeah, this being out hot plasma [3888.34] Jack: metal [3889.54] Jack: And whatever that black stuff is yeah, don't breathe that in [3893.46] Tony: I literally carried mine out like this and lobbed it out in the garden was like [3897.86] Tony: Get out on it burnt for a long or two three minutes [3900.9] Jack: Yeah [3901.7] Jack: It was crazy [3902.9] Jack: I mean I had a balanced lead catch on fire and you're like, how does silicone burn? [3909.06] Jack: I had a balance board. I plugged it in wrong [3913.06] Jack: and then [3914.18] Jack: the the plastic started burning and then the [3918.74] Jack: You know, it was probably the drone lab's not real silicone [3922.58] Jack: But it burned down like a fuse on a sticker dynamite and I just had to carry it out to the window [3929.38] Tony: And then be careful when you're charging people [3932.74] Tony: Literally be on it all the time. What's what you're doing? Water is [3937.54] Jack: Not ideal [3938.98] Jack: fx node, but you know [3942.02] Jack: Because a it's electricity. You've got your charger plugged into the wall [3946.98] Jack: And if you throw it over stuff, it's water damage [3951.06] Jack: And I don't think it really sort of like puts it out if if anything [3955.78] Jack: Lithium on fire in water isn't really the best [3959.62] Tony: No charge outside really can [3962.82] Tony: If not buy yourself a walk [3965.3] Jack: Yeah, but a bag a bucket of sand is better [3968.42] Tony: Sand is good. Yeah, pour that over [3971.86] Tony: Just don't charge indoors. It's just not worth it. Yeah, richard warrick lipos are dangerous [3977.3] Jack: But as long as you're very careful [3979.3] Jack: More and more necessary precautious and you should be okay. Yeah, and the other thing is like lipos. It's like [3987.06] Jack: You cole I I respect your fear level of lipos [3992.18] Jack: You know you're bringing them down to storage charge [3995.38] Jack: And that's such good practice [3997.38] Jack: But the good thing about lipos is they do give you warnings if they're bluffing if they're smelling that sweet [4004.98] Jack: Yeah, definitely [4006.18] Jack: electrolytes now [4007.86] Jack: If they're crumpled if they're bent if they get hot whilst charging [4013.3] Jack: There's even temperature sensors on some on some chargers [4018.26] Jack: Get them [4019.3] Tony: Yeah, I discard mine all in [4022.34] Tony: water buckets full of salt water [4024.9] Tony: That seems to discharge everything down to nothing [4028.26] Jack: Yeah, but yeah, if a pack's acting a bit weird or you're suspicious [4032.66] Jack: That's your place to know [4035.22] Koel: Yeah, you know the one time. Oh, yeah, go ahead [4038.26] Eric: No [4039.54] Eric: It's basically the same as the laser cutter conversation laser cutters and lipos on a long enough timeline [4044.66] Eric: It's highly likely that you're going to have an incident of some form in your life if you're in the hobby for a long time [4052.34] Eric: Accept the fact that everything around that incident the smoke damage will be significant [4058.82] Eric: No matter what because you're not going to get it to stop smoking ever no matter what you hit it with [4064.26] Eric: So charge where you're prepared to have the damage be significant if it's in your house [4070.74] Eric: You're gonna have to got a good portion of your house because it's gonna stink for years. So yeah [4076.18] Eric: Accept it and then maybe move your charge somewhere safer [4080.34] Stephen: I had one that didn't catch and it just spewed chemical goo around um, and uh, [4085.38] Stephen: I think I I used a lot of bleach and a lot of strong detergent that basically covered the kitchen in [4092.34] Stephen: Not ash but a kind of vaporized goo that would only shift with very strong detergent [4097.7] Stephen: And it stank like you would not be fun. It's horrible [4102.9] Eric: Yeah, but if you're prepared and know these things and then it makes you make smart decisions like charge outside in a in a bad [4109.38] Eric: safe or whatever and [4111.14] Eric: There you go [4113.46] Jack: Um, all right, that is all we've got time for [4117.14] Jack: um [4118.5] Stephen: It depends a little bit downer then do we not have anything anything stupid interesting? Yeah [4124.02] Tony: We went out for a meal and my dog was in a [4128.18] Tony: Photographic evidence must be supplied [4130.5] Tony: Yeah, there is [4131.7] Tony: into the chat [4133.46] Tony: We all went out for a meal after a fly and after our live stream [4138.66] Jack: And then that's quite bad. And then we shoved the dog in there [4142.9] Stephen: I wouldn't believe how [4145.94] Tony: And someone behaved a couple of crumbs and she was there the whole time slid her under the um, see [4152.34] Tony: under my in between my legs and we just fed her little bits of [4155.78] Stephen: Food and she she gets cold the wonder that is biryani [4160.34] Tony: And we've um, we got away with um having a meal out with a dog [4164.58] Jack: Yep, so how did you find the whole curry thing? Go? Was it all right? [4170.9] Koel: No, it was good [4175.78] Koel: This is what I sort of figured out is well, maybe correct me if i'm wrong, but [4180.34] Koel: Every place that I went out for food in the uk [4182.98] Koel: It seemed like they did not add any seasoning or salt to any of their food. It's like anywhere [4188.74] Stephen: Yeah, let's just invert that [4191.06] Koel: Even curry else. It was you have way more salt [4194.82] Koel: Not not anywhere but the curry houses I should say did you get fish and chips [4200.5] Koel: Yeah, well we have I went to okay one fish and chips place. They were really good other fish and chips place [4206.18] Koel: They it was kind of hit and miss [4208.98] Koel: But [4210.02] Koel: I don't know what it is [4210.9] Koel: But it seemed like yeah the curry places were like the the good places that actually had good seasoning and good [4217.7] Stephen: Like good stuff. Most of it's quite bland. It's to our national cuisine [4222.66] Koel: Yeah [4224.66] Stephen: And then you've got that asian influence from from india [4228.5] Stephen: But yeah in terms of salt [4229.94] Stephen: The one thing I always get from the us is [4232.34] Stephen: All all the meals that I have and not say us and canada are the same i'm sure they're not but [4237.06] Stephen: When i'm out in the u.s [4238.74] Stephen: I I have a lot more salt on my food and a lot more sugar on my food than I do back home [4243.62] Jack: Yeah [4245.22] Jack: Probably better than not but yeah, yeah, it was [4249.46] Jack: it was a [4251.78] Jack: Comedy thing called goodness gracious me and they went for an english and one of them was like i'll have more bread rolls [4259.3] Curry: more bread rolls [4261.3] Jack: Instead of poppadoms [4262.5] Curry: And 12th portion of chips [4264.74] Jack: Yeah, and the outside chips. Yes. I love the blandest thing on the menu [4271.22] Stephen: I would want more bland than yours [4273.7] Jack: Yeah [4275.3] Stephen: I remember that sketch. I must be like 25 years ago. That was a great sketch. Yeah, but did you have a roast dinner cal? [4282.82] Koel: I didn't because jack's an asshole and didn't make me one [4288.9] Tony: Like that is the [4293.46] Tony: Yeah, but [4295.7] Tony: You have to eat it on a sundae [4298.82] Jack: Not religiously, but it's just the thing we could have could have gone and seen my mate glenn, right?
