[13.0] Jack: Massive thank you to… [14.4] Jack: Carlos Campos! [16.0] Jack: Art Faulkner. [17.84] Stephen: Sam Dahmer. [19.68] Stephen: On with the show. [20.68] Jack: Hello and welcome back to Let's Drone Out tonight. [55.02] Jack: We are joined by the man with the moustache. [59.46] Jack: Hello everyone. [60.46] Jack: Welcome. [61.46] Jack: Stephen. [62.46] Jack: Everyone's favourite curry kitten. [65.74] Jack: Hello. [66.74] Jack: I'm Bright Until I Fly and this is the man who didn't use my thumbnail. [74.46] Jack: Go. [75.46] Jack: Howdy. [76.46] Jack: Outrage. [77.46] Jack: It's alright. [78.46] Jack: Don't worry. [79.46] Curry: So, Jack, before we start, well, let's start with this. [84.42] Curry: Tell us about the thumbnail and it's not Cole's fault because we just saw the message [87.66] Curry: and said this is a thumbnail which is accurate. [90.74] Curry: What have you been doing? [93.14] Curry: Why is there a DJI Avata near you? [97.9] Curry: Why are you trying to masturbate with it? [100.06] Jack: All these questions need to be answered. [103.06] Jack: Vital questions. [104.06] Jack: What was the first one again? [106.14] UNKNOWN: Avata. [107.14] Curry: What are you doing with the studio Avata? [110.86] Jack: What are you doing with the DJ Avata, yes. [112.5] Curry: Have you gone over to the dark side? [114.62] Jack: I've gone insane. [115.62] Jack: I've bought one. [117.62] Jack: No, a friend of mine has one and I decided to use the grip to f*** it off. [129.1] Curry: Is it everyone's favourite professional griefer? [132.3] Jack: Yes. [133.9] Jack: No, no, no. [136.34] Koel: Is it a friend or is it a friend? [140.66] Koel: There's a friend, a codename for you bought it and it's a friend. [144.38] Koel: No. [145.38] Stephen: Have you started a new limited company for the purposes of hoarding DJI equipment? [150.86] Jack: No. [151.86] Jack: It's my friend Digby Dan, he got it. [159.46] Jack: I had a quick go of it today and it is pretty good. [168.26] Jack: I didn't buy it, Frank. [169.82] Jack: I didn't buy it. [170.82] Jack: Scab. [171.82] Jack: You touched it. [172.82] Koel: Scab. [173.82] Koel: Yeah, you jerked it off if you jerked it off. [177.14] Jack: Yeah, I just thought it would be funny to post stuff with me f***ing it off. [184.1] Jack: I mean, I might delete it. [185.3] Jack: I don't know. [186.3] Jack: I don't know. [187.3] Jack: No, I just keep it. [188.3] Jack: It's funny. [189.3] Koel: Did the rounds and everything. [191.9] Koel: But you know what I found really funny though was you posted that with the DJI Avata and [196.9] Koel: I actually was going back in your reels and your videos just watching like past videos [201.38] Koel: and you were shaming people for using DJI products in the past in the same thread of [207.86] Koel: your videos and I was like, oh, the tables have turned, haven't they? [212.5] Jack: Yeah, I had a moment of weakness and then I, well, I sold them and now they're worth [218.14] Jack: more. [219.14] Stephen: I still don't understand what was going through your head in that week where you like decided [223.54] Stephen: that after all said and done, you'd go and buy it and then instantly sold it. [227.62] Jack: Yeah, well, without ever using it, yeah, because everyone panic bought the air units and by [235.46] Jack: the time I had the cash to get an air unit, there was none left and it was just the absolute [244.42] Jack: fear mongering. [245.42] Jack: So I just kind of got rid of them and was like, sod it. [251.54] Jack: I'll buy them again when they're cheaper or wait till hopefully at some point, something [260.22] Jack: else is worked out. [261.42] Jack: I don't know whether HD video or Runcam or Kadex release something, but I didn't like [271.82] Jack: them. [273.82] Jack: I don't like them because they don't sit above your head. [276.78] Jack: They're really big. [280.18] Jack: There's things like, if you update it now, you can't get to the root house. [284.62] Koel: Yeah, well, I mean, this is what I was sort of thinking was like, there's so many options [295.38] Koel: now, right? [296.38] Koel: As far as like whatever, HD zero, walk, snail, DJI, Runcam, Kadex, like Fat Shark, whatever. [303.7] Koel: There's so many now. [304.74] Koel: I think everyone's kind of waiting out now for the O3 air unit, right? [309.42] Koel: That's kind of like, they're going to be the new and greatest, latest and greatest, [314.78] Koel: I guess. [315.78] Koel: Is it? [316.78] Stephen: I mean, it's going to be a slightly improved transmission system, but no one said if the [323.98] Stephen: goggles are better. [324.98] Stephen: No one said if the OST is going to work this time. [329.3] Stephen: Even the walk, snail stuff, which had all this like furor around, oh, yeah, they've [333.82] Stephen: got together with Fat Shark and Fat Shark make the best goggles and walk, snail have [338.38] Stephen: an excellent transmission system and, you know, with Fat Shark's amazing ability to [343.22] Stephen: like create super comfortable goggles. [345.5] Stephen: It's going to be great. [346.66] Stephen: The first thing I noticed when I put Andy's goggles on the walk, snail goggles was they [351.34] Stephen: just hit the bridge of my nose and all the weight was rested right on the front of the [356.22] Stephen: bridge of my nose. [357.22] Stephen: The entire goggle weight was pinched through a piece of hard plastic digging in to the [362.22] Stephen: bridge of my nose. [363.54] Koel: And it was no, no, no, it was all cut out, eh? [366.58] Stephen: Yeah. [367.78] Stephen: It was awful. [368.78] Stephen: It was worse than the DJI goggles. [372.1] Stephen: It's my sky zones are way more comfortable than the walk snails. [375.98] Stephen: So I don't know. [378.66] Stephen: I just don't believe people's reviews anymore. [380.74] Stephen: I mean, Andy's always said, like, you've got to wear stuff to find out if it fits your [385.18] Stephen: face. [386.18] Stephen: But yeah, I'm not sure about the walk snails and that there seems to be some toing and [391.7] Stephen: froing as to whether they'll support a proper DisplayPort OSD forever or whether it's going [398.26] Stephen: to kind of go off in a different direction. [401.54] Curry: There was also in that list of digital and it sounds kind of like really between the [406.14] Curry: lines that people would like to choose something other than DJI because they don't trust DJI [412.18] Curry: not to bring out the next one and say, oh, this is incompatible with that one and this [415.86] Curry: one and you'll have to like give one of your kidneys before you're allowed to register [422.06] Curry: with it. [423.06] Curry: Orca was the other one that was supposed to be bringing out their own HD system, which [427.14] Curry: hasn't happened yet. [428.14] Curry: And they were also talking about our goggles are going to be very open. [431.34] Curry: So you're going to be able to implement other HD systems. [434.42] Curry: But that's that's a little bit fanciful because no one else has brought out anything in the [439.94] Curry: realms of a module that you can just add on really at this point. [445.78] Curry: Jack, did you actually try out the goggles for the avatar or did you just carry jerking [450.18] Curry: it off or whatever? [451.94] Jack: I was in the V2 goggles. [455.22] Jack: Oh, right. [456.18] Jack: So I didn't have any of the head tracking. [459.58] Curry: Does that mean did you still get that little dot where you can? [463.46] Curry: So what was that like? [464.46] Curry: That looked really odd. [466.82] Jack: You just kind of like use the grip. [471.94] Jack: There's got to be a better. [472.86] Jack: What's the call? [473.9] Koel: What's the joystick or or what's it called? [478.66] Jack: I just I just assume that's a really dill donic interface in control, I think. [484.42] Curry: I would sock be a holder for the stick. [487.62] Curry: Then have we got to use for the socks now? [490.86] Jack: I don't know how much the editor is going to have to bleep that out. [495.3] Stephen: Can we say telly dill donics? [496.78] Stephen: Is that OK? [498.5] Stephen: That sounds like and that sounds valid. [500.78] Stephen: I think we're good. [503.34] Jack: Yeah, so yeah, the motion controller, you kind of you have that circle and you kind [512.86] Jack: of like aim it at stuff, but it really does it like if you suddenly stop, it really like [519.74] Jack: smooths it out. [520.7] Jack: The horizons pretty locked in. [524.74] Jack: I was on like I had one solid green light and one flashing light. [530.02] Jack: That's what level of battery I was on. [532.26] Jack: So I literally got five seconds and then I had a small little if I go out, it's because [539.98] Jack: thunder and lightning has taken me out. [542.7] Jack: But I really didn't. [549.26] Jack: I got on with it. [550.58] Jack: The throttle, I kept pressing it and hoping it would go like send me upwards. [556.26] Jack: But you need to kind of angle the that circle upwards and then tilt back and then press [565.78] Jack: throttle for it to actually gain high. [568.7] Jack: So it was I was fighting the controls a bit to get get it. [574.42] Jack: But I could easily see that someone who's never flown FPV would just totally duck to [581.66] Jack: water it. [583.26] Jack: You love it and be easy to use. [585.78] Jack: Yeah, just it was as a point to go into place then. [591.06] Jack: Yeah, you know, I could really tell that the only the only sort of argument I had with it [596.18] Jack: was because of my own sort of stuck in the mud, you know, wanting to like fly it manual. [603.5] Jack: But it was very easy to like concentrate and be like, no, I'm going to do you know, I'm [610.02] Jack: going to do this and point the circle to where you want to go. [613.74] Jack: And you can just stop moving and let you go to the tree, go for it. [619.54] Jack: Yeah. And then give the old motion control a twist and you can just turn to get to where [625.9] Jack: you want. And because the battery was really low and I had a very quick go, the countdown [632.78] Jack: for auto land happened and then it just took over and then started to gain some altitude. [639.62] Jack: And then it kind of got into the wind and was badly tilting. [643.86] Jack: And then I just canceled that, brought it forward and then just hit land and it just [648.7] Jack: auto land and it was fine. [651.46] Jack: It just, you know, it's a bit weird. [657.06] Jack: Like, you know, auto land, I know I'm going to use a ton of throttle and go up to really [662.82] Jack: high, but I think it's not really set up for it. [666.54] Jack: But, you know, when you fly RC and you're looking at it at a point of view of like, we've [674.06] Jack: been doing this for a long time, you do, you know, you're like, look, I'll tell you when [678.26] Jack: to when to land. [679.46] Jack: But, you know, for a newbie, man, it's got it's got it's got itself covered, really. [686.34] Jack: What was the video like? [690.26] Jack: Like, I'm not the best to ask because I'm shoving my glasses in there. [696.54] Jack: Oh, right. And it was a bit, you know, it's not you had some less issues. [703.02] Jack: Yeah, you know, it was, you know, the colors were kind of soft and, you know, it's not [711.06] Jack: that detailed, but like it's totally flyable. [714.06] Jack: Like, no problem. [715.3] Koel: So weird because I've basically heard like the complete opposite based on like reviews [721.22] Koel: online saying it's like super vibrant and sharp and like high, high quality or whatever. [728.82] Koel: But again, like every your miles may vary depending on like, I guess you have glasses [733.18] Jack: that might kind of, you know, yeah, my my glasses has got a coating on them. [739.34] Jack: They've got all kind of like anti-glare coating. [741.86] Jack: So like, yeah, like take take what I say with an absolute fistful of soul, you know, [750.62] Jack: because I, you know, I've I've got an anti-glare coating. [756.82] Jack: The goggles don't quite fit my face. [759.54] Jack: And I was too busy really, like trying to get my head around the new [768.06] Jack: control system and trying not to crash it. [771.5] Jack: And the dog we're with is a psychopath. [775.14] Jack: He just hates quads. [777.34] Jack: As soon as he hates the plugging in the lipo. [781.94] Jack: So like the crack of the lipo noise alerts him to there's a drone going to go down. [790.14] Jack: And then as soon as it takes off, one of us has to hold him. [794.78] Jack: And then you've got what I can only describe as if the noise that comes out of him is that [800.82] Jack: we're murdering his whole family in front of him. [804.02] Jack: It's like, and then just bark, bark, bark and then just mindlessly take off and try and [812.58] Jack: kill the drone. [814.06] Jack: It's it's very handy. [815.9] Jack: You'll never lose a drone with him. [817.58] Jack: But there was an element of I've got to control this. [821.86] Jack: And if I fly too low, he's going to eat me. [825.02] Jack: Yeah, almost happened on Digby Dan's run. [828.62] Jack: And so he he he was a bit low coming down the path and you just saw the dog's head pop up and [836.38] Jack: then luckily he got some height. [839.26] Jack: But yeah, if I get hold of that video, I'll I'll send it to you guys to to to be like, [845.7] Jack: yeah, he almost he almost got it. [848.18] Jack: He's he's got a few drones here and there. [850.94] Jack: Fair play to him. [852.78] Koel: But yeah, and now I was I was a bit shocked that they didn't have like [858.58] Koel: forward sensing sensors on that one or whatever. [862.26] Koel: I mean, they have them on the bottom. [865.66] Jack: Yeah, you've got a big idea switch so you can just literally hit this big break button. [872.9] Jack: So it's the the big like waffle shaped one. [877.78] Jack: I don't know how compatible it's going to be with like left handed people as well. [883.22] Jack: That was me a bit miffed because I was like, oh, what happens for left handed people? [888.22] Jack: It's like your whole like, you know, pan until like I think there's some camera set. [894.22] Stephen: Oh, they put it all on hats and stuff. [895.94] Stephen: I say around the side of the controller. [898.1] Jack: Yeah, a little slider stuff like that's not good. [901.9] Curry: Burn them as witches. [903.46] Curry: Maybe that's the answer. [904.78] Jack: Yeah, so I flew it right handed and I had a position. [910.42] Jack: Yeah, I had I had like I'm going back to the original discussion. [915.14] Curry: It's kind of like the stranger, stranger flying. [918.1] Jack: Yeah, stranger flight. [920.42] Jack: Yeah, it really was like. [923.26] Koel: Well, I guess at the same time, too, like having forward sensors or obstacle points on the front [928.14] Koel: wouldn't really make sense on a sitting because you're going to be flying through small places anyway. [932.94] Stephen: You want to be able to do that kind of cute shot where you're flying through someone's legs, [937.82] Stephen: gap in a chair, so you don't want to be wearing coffee or something. [942.82] Koel: Like, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, that was my magic before. [946.94] Koel: But yeah, it's not very fun with the sense of a rising tide and all that. [951.1] Stephen: But it does make me feel that people are kind of missing the point of it. [954.58] Stephen: I'm conflicted with DJI products. [956.38] Stephen: I can see they help people appreciate some of the artistic output that you can get from FPV. [962.38] Stephen: And it brings a wider audience to that. [964.14] Stephen: And maybe there's some people who get this and they go on from that to get freestyle quad that goes a bit faster, [970.26] Stephen: do some more interesting stunts. [972.38] Stephen: But it also feels like DJI have taken something that's cool about our hobby and just kind of cashing in on it [978.9] Stephen: and trying to turn it into a commodity when it really is potential to be a bit more interesting than that. [985.98] Koel: Yeah, I mean, someone's got it. [987.34] Koel: Someone someone's surely to be the one to do the cash grab. [992.18] Koel: And if whoever's got the most money, they're going to put the most into it and then they're going to try to get the most out of it. [998.42] Koel: So it's like gaming and that. [1001.06] Stephen: There's always someone doing the dumb kind of Call of Duty stuff for every like 100 indie developers doing weird, unusual stuff. [1008.9] Jack: Yeah. Yeah. But like, you know what? [1014.62] Jack: You know, Tommy said, oh, my oh, my God. [1018.06] Jack: You know, the fact is that you can like fly into a room and then stop. [1025.62] Jack: No one's no one's released. [1028.78] Jack: You know, they're basically doing everything that Vernon said he would do. [1033.98] Jack: It's a one axis gimbal, but you've got an extra access because you've got the digital standard and everything. [1040.34] Jack: Yeah. You know, like that's that's the problem is like, yeah, you can build an iNav quad. [1046.02] Jack: But, you know, trying to get a gimbal or gimbals, [1051.58] Jack: you know, like the production of gimbals have kind of stopped now, you know, you can. [1056.54] Jack: Yeah, you can build your own. [1058.82] Jack: Yeah. Like, you know, the Ollie. [1062.06] Jack: Whatever, you're almost better off buying a DJI Osmo and taping it to, you know, in order to get. [1070.74] Jack: You know, no one's releasing these small little gimbals that you put. [1075.9] Koel: You know, you get the Alex Moss ones or whatever. [1078.86] Jack: Yeah. I mean, they mention gimbals to. [1083.9] Jack: So Andy say no, it was a. [1087.14] Jack: Oh, sorry, Karen. [1088.58] Stephen: I was going to mention that you posted a comment about Andy saying it's bad indoors in low light. [1094.02] Stephen: And if GPS return to home kicks in, then it flies to the roof. [1097.86] Stephen: Now, that sounds like they've completely missed [1102.26] Stephen: a big section of their target market who wanted to film [1106.38] Stephen: cute little things flying through business premises as advertising collateral, [1110.98] Stephen: which is like all of the top shots that you see people doing with cine whoops. [1115.62] Stephen: They're all indoors because there's no wonder and they're all flying through people. [1120.38] Curry: I wonder if there's an option of your fail safe to say land [1124.06] Curry: as opposed to just RTH because that would be they must know this could be indoors [1128.54] Curry: around trees, stuff like that, where it's like just going to be stupid to clunk. [1133.1] Curry: You know, well, there's a question to Andy. [1134.7] Stephen: Can you configure the fail safe? Yeah. [1138.02] Koel: Well, did you guys see the rotor ride episode when they were in that [1140.98] Koel: like neon or black light like a mini putt course kind of thing? [1146.66] Curry: I saw that and the lighting, they couldn't use that motion controller, [1150.38] Curry: could they, because it couldn't pick up correctly on that lighting condition. [1155.02] Koel: Yeah, Andy was saying that it's not good. [1157.78] Koel: I guess that's maybe the camera. [1159.06] Koel: It's bad in low light, but I mean, it's yeah, it does seem like they were having [1164.26] Koel: kind of a heck of a time, you know, just using that controller [1168.02] Koel: and getting this weird stuff going on in that lower light environment. [1172.14] Koel: So that's also strange because, you know, [1175.9] Stephen: that's what you want a small quad for. [1178.18] Stephen: What's it got, like three inch, two and a half inch props, tiny props. [1181.7] Koel: Yeah. Yeah. [1183.06] Koel: Like, well, even like the club I work at, they had a guy [1186.34] Koel: come in a couple of times. [1187.46] Koel: And I mean, I don't really know if it would be a good idea [1191.26] Koel: to throw an Avada in there if it's going to if it, you know, fail safes or whatever. [1196.46] Stephen: Like, I guess I always figured that they're the sort of thing [1199.34] Stephen: someone with a whole bunch of money gets is just an expensive toy. [1202.54] Stephen: And if they want to. Yeah. [1204.54] Stephen: If they're going to do serious work, then they'll probably read about it, [1207.86] Stephen: build something themselves. Yeah. [1211.94] Jack: But I'm sure that that's something that can be updated in software. [1217.34] Jack: You know, if if these guys, you know, that's kind of where, [1224.34] Jack: you know, the sort of like mistrust, you know. [1228.62] Jack: Is a Jew. [1233.46] Koel: Yeah. I mean, to be honest, like when it was first announced, [1237.94] Koel: when it was first showed, I was like super ecstatic about it. [1241.22] Koel: I mean, you guys saw me a couple of episodes ago. [1243.14] Koel: I was like, it's amazing. [1244.74] Koel: I'm getting it. [1245.58] Koel: I didn't say I was getting it, but like I thought it was really cool. [1248.34] Koel: But after seeing it a little more video, it's a little more reviews and just, [1252.98] Koel: I mean, like, OK, this this is my sort of take on it. [1255.86] Koel: It does seem really cool. [1257.26] Koel: It's cool that it has all that stabilization built in. [1259.42] Koel: You don't have to mess around too much in post if you unless you really want to. [1264.06] Koel: But then I don't know that the camera quality does seem better [1268.86] Koel: than the original DJI FPV. [1271.62] Koel: But I don't think it's quite as good as like the Action 2 or like a real GoPro. [1279.18] Koel: I read I also saw somebody talking online talking about how the old apparently [1283.58] Koel: well, this is all rumors, obviously, but apparently the O3 air unit [1287.74] Koel: is, quote unquote, just a DJI Action 2 and that it'll have all this rock [1291.9] Koel: steady horizon steady, all this stuff built in, which if it does, [1296.06] Koel: that would be pretty cool, I guess, because you wouldn't necessarily need an HD cam. [1300.26] Koel: But then you'd also have to have a fair enough angle [1302.58] Koel: that you're not getting props in the shot. [1304.58] Koel: And then there's kind of all those. [1305.82] Stephen: If you really looked at the Action 2 footage, though, like in bad lighting [1309.94] Stephen: conditions, the Action 2 is is nothing to write home about. [1314.14] Stephen: It's a lot worse than the GoPro. [1316.54] Koel: Well, see, what one of my argument for that is, though, I think a lot of [1320.02] Koel: in this in the hobby, the FPV hobby community, whatever. [1324.38] Koel: I think a lot of the problem, though, is is like [1327.46] Koel: a lot of people don't know how to use cameras properly [1329.78] Koel: or do camera settings properly. [1331.54] Koel: So a lot of people are pushing their ISO way too high, [1334.54] Koel: which is going to make stuff look like in at nighttime. [1337.78] Koel: Whereas like, I don't know, my experience is like [1340.9] Koel: if you're going to shoot at nighttime, expose for the lights, [1343.74] Koel: don't expose for the darkest bits. [1346.18] Koel: If you expose for the lighting, your ISO doesn't have to be that high [1349.06] Koel: and it would look a lot better. [1350.74] Koel: So I don't know. [1351.98] Koel: I would want to play around with it and see. [1353.7] Koel: Like, I just feel like a lot of people just kind of, you know, [1356.7] Koel: press auto on their camera settings and wish for the best. [1360.1] Koel: But I don't think that's necessarily the best way to judge a camera. [1363.66] Stephen: A lot of pilots are pilots first. [1365.5] Stephen: They're not camera people first. [1367.1] Stephen: So, yeah, that's understandable. [1369.3] Koel: Yeah, just little things I noticed as well. [1371.14] Koel: But yeah, I mean, I do know you know the Action 2 isn't the [1375.02] Koel: it's definitely not the cream of the crop when it comes to image quality. [1378.14] Koel: That's for sure. [1379.58] Stephen: Well, it's Action 2. [1380.66] Stephen: What are we on GoPro 10? [1383.06] Stephen: It's much more iteration on the GoPro side. [1386.06] Stephen: Maybe if we go back to the early GoPros, [1388.9] Stephen: then we would really be shocked at the kind of image quality we're getting. [1392.58] Stephen: And it might take DJI another three or four years to to get to a standard [1397.3] Stephen: where it really rivals the GoPro for image quality. [1400.66] Koel: Oh, yeah. Yeah. [1401.38] Koel: Well, I mean, DJI is focusing on a lot of stuff, whereas like GoPro is kind of like, [1406.5] Koel: OK, we're making cameras. [1408.3] Koel: And I mean, they had their they had their stint with the drone [1412.14] Koel: whenever many years ago, but that was that was rough. [1416.1] Koel: So they're like, OK, we're not doing that anymore. [1418.38] Koel: Stick to what they're good at. [1419.5] Koel: Whereas like DJI, they're good at quads, they're getting better at cameras. [1424.58] Koel: Now they're doing microphones. [1426.14] Koel: Like they're they're trying like they're they're definitely like trying to build up. [1431.34] Koel: But yeah, they're definitely not, you know, on par with, you know, the content. [1435.14] Stephen: DJI has got to that point where they're a big enough company [1438.94] Stephen: that they're making that ecosystem play. [1441.54] Stephen: They're not just looking to make one type of thing. [1443.9] Stephen: They're looking to make that thing and everything else [1447.1] Stephen: that a person who buys that thing would be interested in. [1450.78] Koel: Yeah. Oh, according to the NDRC, the Avada camera is far better than the Action 2. [1456.1] Koel: So that's something. That's good. [1459.7] Stephen: Cool. I remember with the Action 2, Failsafe was saying [1462.14] Stephen: he was pouring water on it between flights to cool it down as well. [1466.7] Stephen: Well, you want to be doing, you know, I don't worry, it's waterproof. [1470.5] Stephen: Just dousing the camera in water to get it like 10 or 20 degrees cooler [1474.42] Stephen: so you can fly again. [1475.78] Curry: I did have my first GoPro overheat, which I've never had before, [1480.14] Curry: but I was filming for a long time in 4K 60 out in the heat. [1485.3] Curry: And after about 25 minutes, I just did it, did it, did it. [1489.42] Curry: I was like, what's going on there? [1490.54] Curry: Turn it back on, started filming 30 seconds later, did it, did it? [1493.94] Curry: Off it goes. [1494.9] Curry: I just basically leave it for about 20 minutes to let it recap itself. [1500.02] Curry: Just get your thoughts, get yourself together and we can go again. [1502.82] Curry: Yeah, that's done it before. [1505.66] Koel: Yeah, it's usually the batteries, too, that are the ones that get hot. [1508.5] Koel: Like if you start the battery, you might get a little more life out of it. [1511.22] Stephen: But yeah, it's I run mine without a battery. [1514.78] Stephen: Just think of that's easier. [1517.3] Curry: Yeah, there's it's so it gets hot without a battery, but it doesn't turn on either. [1520.78] Curry: That's my problem with it. [1522.86] Stephen: I use one of those little Bex like you are messing around with the thumb pro. [1527.58] Stephen: Could have done that. [1528.86] Curry: This is on my head is being an action camera at the time. [1531.74] Curry: So it's it's it needs to be flexible. [1535.54] Koel: We got some some secret leaks from Andy, I see. [1538.7] Jack: Andy, why don't you just come on the show? [1542.86] Stephen: You've got come on so you can be properly attacked. [1549.94] Curry: Pretty much at least once a year, GoPro does bring out a new camera. [1553.22] Curry: I think it's right to expect one before the end of the year. [1556.14] Koel: Yeah. Yeah. [1557.38] Curry: It's like, will it be the 11 or will it be something else? [1559.98] Stephen: Will someone finally make something that can fit into a session mount? [1564.9] Koel: Hero 11 session. Hero 11 session. Hero 11 session. [1569.26] Koel: GoPro do it. We need it. [1571.98] Jack: No, they don't. [1573.74] Jack: They don't even like us. [1576.1] Koel: Yeah, I mean, yeah. [1577.98] Stephen: Well, we're not we're not surfing, are we? [1580.02] Stephen: Or like riding horses or doing something that looks cool. [1583.14] Stephen: We're a bunch of nerds standing with goggles on our faces. [1587.1] Curry: And we don't have followers. [1589.42] Curry: I'm using it as a neck workout when I've got it on my head. [1591.74] Curry: I was after a while, I just go limp and I sort of roll around like this [1595.54] Curry: and someone has to rescue me because it's way so much. [1600.14] Jack: Well, aren't you using it in water? [1602.34] Jack: May need to film the fishies. [1605.18] Curry: I am like a proper GoPro customer. [1608.14] Curry: I take it skiing with me. [1610.26] Curry: I film underwater with it. [1613.42] Curry: And but I also use it quite a lot as as my sort of field camera, [1617.9] Curry: because that that front screen for me when I'm saying hello, everybody, [1621.3] Curry: I'm at the field because you could tell because there's a field behind me [1623.86] Curry: is dead useful and it goes on my head when I was filming my little helicopter. [1628.14] Koel: Yeah, just watch that. [1628.9] Curry: Actually, that's the only thing I haven't done with my GoPro 10 is put it on the quad. [1632.7] Curry: And that's because the current GoPro never goes on the quad in case I break it. [1636.22] Curry: The previous GoPro does. [1637.62] Curry: So the GoPro 7 goes on the quad. [1639.1] Curry: The GoPro 10 is is my baby, although it's a very heavy one. [1642.78] Jack: What about skydiving? [1645.7] Curry: I haven't done any of that. [1646.5] Curry: I haven't done any surfing either. [1647.74] Curry: I did take it on a stand up paddleboard, but it mainly involves [1650.94] Curry: pictures of me going like this and the paddleboard disappearing. [1654.54] Curry: And then you see the dishes again. [1656.22] Curry: It just wants to go back to the fish. [1661.1] Jack: That's like the little arm waves was amazing. [1666.06] Jack: Yeah, come on, Andy, we miss you. [1668.14] Jack: And I'll be a lot calmer because I've already walked off the [1672.58] Jack: donation controller. [1674.66] Jack: It's got to have a right hand. [1676.62] Stephen: What we should do is wait until Andy's got no pending product reveals to do. [1680.9] Stephen: So he won't be tempted to blurt out any NDA breaching stuff [1684.66] Stephen: and then get him on the show. [1686.22] Stephen: So we just need to wait till he's got all this Avata and Cadex [1689.86] Stephen: and whatever stuff out of his system. [1691.66] Stephen: Just wait for it to to be cleansed. [1694.38] Stephen: And then he can come on the show relaxed and free of worry. [1699.06] Stephen: We might not even need the disclaimer. [1701.54] Jack: Yeah, if someone can make a really small but good, [1706.74] Jack: you know, three three axis gimbal, it'd be amazing. [1711.3] Jack: But, you know, we're very delicate things, though, aren't they? [1715.34] Koel: Yeah, yeah, yeah. [1718.5] Koel: That would I don't know. [1721.06] Koel: I mean, they do exist for like the cinema stuff, I guess, like cinequads, [1725.1] Koel: but they're heavy, though. [1726.86] Curry: Yeah, I think it's like the world's given up on gimbals now. [1730.1] Stephen: Yeah, that was that was so we can do it in software. [1733.06] Stephen: Yeah. Well, and also like the compact version of the gimbal is OIS, isn't it? [1738.3] Stephen: But you put it in the lens and it's much easier to manage. [1742.66] Stephen: Instead of that's why with the higher weight of the camera, [1744.74] Stephen: you just move the lens system and that's it. [1746.58] Curry: Oh, you just get an Insta360 or you can pretend you can gimbal around. [1751.18] Koel: Yeah. Yeah. [1752.42] Koel: Well, I was going to say, yes, it's all it's all digital now, man. [1756.38] Koel: Like, that's why on the Avata, it's just a one axis [1758.7] Koel: because they're I mean, you guys have seen like the hero nines and tens [1762.54] Koel: where you can turn it like like super far and you can rotate it super crazy, [1768.54] Koel: but it still keeps it level. [1770.42] Koel: So, you know, the the software and like the technology has gotten so advanced [1775.54] Stephen: now that it's like, sorry, I mean, like not EIS like in software, but OIS [1781.14] Stephen: where optics in the lens have like tiny, tiny motors in them or like [1786.46] Stephen: yeah, tiny, tiny actuators that do image stabilization and the optics. [1791.66] Stephen: They don't use electronics. [1793.34] Koel: Yeah. Yeah. [1794.3] Koel: So my actual my main camera that I use, like a DSLR has a mirrorless camera [1799.74] Koel: where the sensor is actually floating and, you know, it counteracts. [1804.1] Koel: That's what you're talking about, right? [1805.02] Koel: Like like optical image stabilization. [1807.02] Stephen: Yeah. Yeah. And some fancy phones. [1808.74] Stephen: I think the couple of iPhones have had it tends to be the larger phones [1812.22] Stephen: where the body is big enough to put the guts of this [1816.1] Stephen: to move the sensor around in its actuators. [1819.38] Stephen: Yeah, it's like kind of floating there a little bit, right? [1821.54] Stephen: Or yeah, that means you've already enclosed [1824.78] Stephen: all the delicate electronics inside the body of the camera. [1828.46] Stephen: And the the the weight that you're moving is much smaller. [1832.22] Stephen: So you don't need big motors either. [1834.5] Stephen: Kind of seems to be where the world's ended up, I guess. [1837.66] Curry: Interesting. So yeah, often a bunch of that. [1841.06] Stephen: Yeah, that's OIS versus EIS. [1843.66] Stephen: Of course, everyone tries to like downplay OIS [1847.1] Stephen: because it's really expensive to implement and really complex. [1850.06] Stephen: It's like building a, you know, clockwork watch. [1853.1] Stephen: Everyone's really happy to just say that EIS can do everything [1857.06] Stephen: and you can just solve the problem in software. [1859.06] Stephen: But the top tier stuff still actually moves the optics around. [1863.7] Koel: Oh, yeah. Yeah. [1864.62] Koel: It is definitely a superior like [1867.58] Koel: to have a like a floating element or whatever. [1870.9] Koel: Like that's it is better than electronic, but, you know, [1874.38] Koel: or a mixture of the two is even better together. [1876.66] Koel: Right. Like it's yeah. [1879.3] Frank: This episode was recorded in front of a live online audience, [1882.3] Frank: downloaded and edited to make sense when it played audio only. [1885.7] Frank: Censored to please the iTunes people hosted on the Internet, [1888.7] Frank: forwarded through to your podcast provider, [1890.62] Frank: downloaded, playing on your device and is now playing in your ears. [1900.22] Frank: Find out more at patreon.com forward slash let's drone out. [1905.34] Jack: I always remember. [1907.9] Jack: Oh, what's his name? [1911.38] Jack: He was he's a man. [1913.26] Jack: I always remember. [1915.5] Jack: I always remember. [1916.9] Jack: No, I don't. Yeah. [1918.78] Jack: No, I don't. [1920.14] Jack: But he's he's the guy with like the laser time. [1924.7] Jack: I use laser time. [1928.5] Stephen: What? Laser. Yeah. [1929.9] Stephen: I rocket. [1931.5] Jack: He's a laser time. [1935.58] Jack: He's an engineer. [1937.7] Curry: All right. He's like a three words location. [1940.26] Curry: Laser time engineer. [1941.74] Curry: Meet me there. [1946.1] Stephen: Curry, while Jack is playing his own little memory game, [1948.86] Stephen: you also messed around some stabilization in the thumb pro [1952.22] Stephen: and you tried many, many things to get it to work at speed and it beat you. [1959.06] Curry: I couldn't make it work. [1960.74] Curry: No, which was a shame because what I found, [1964.26] Curry: because I put it on a five inch quad because I thought, you know what? [1967.38] Curry: Lots of people run five inch quads and they'd like pretty cheap cameras, [1970.98] Curry: which turn out pretty good results without risking smashing up [1974.78] Curry: GoPro 10 or something like that. [1976.7] Curry: And I had TPU mounts on it, [1982.22] Curry: so it was nice and sort of flexible, and I thought that would [1987.26] Curry: absorb the vibrations. [1989.46] Curry: But on putting it through, there is a constant like hum. [1995.1] Curry: You can see it in the jar of noise, [1997.26] Curry: that there's a constant sort of of this, which won't seem to go away. [2003.06] Curry: What's this? [2005.06] Stephen: Laser engraving music. [2007.62] Jack: Yeah, so he's using a [2012.38] Jack: he's using a speaker to modulate the. [2018.14] Jack: And I like his burrito. [2021.06] Jack: Yeah, so he's using a lens of a laser and these thin. [2026.98] Jack: This is William Osborne, by the way, and then thin bits of wire [2030.18] Jack: and then a speaker modulates the wiggle of the laser lens [2038.02] Jack: to then burn a group, a groove [2043.78] Jack: into a resin record or a bit of cardboard. [2048.78] Jack: I think he went with in the end. [2052.26] Jack: But yeah, that's what kind of reminds me of sort of like manual moving of the. [2057.26] Curry: We were always like, I could remember what the original context of that. [2061.62] Koel: Yeah, I mean, either. [2063.42] Curry: I'm like, wait, what are we talking about here? [2066.06] Curry: We're talking about floating lenses. [2067.98] Curry: This is this is what triggered Jack's memory. [2072.34] Curry: Oh, yeah, same memory in the very loosest sense of the word. [2076.74] Stephen: I saw this bloke once. [2079.3] Stephen: It's similar to lasers and records, except without the lasers or the records. [2084.34] Stephen: But something was moving. [2087.9] Curry: Yes, so Run Camp Fun Pro. [2090.94] Curry: What I found out is there was a sort of constant vibration from the quad, [2096.14] Curry: which meant Jaroflow, he's off in a stroke, couldn't do much with it, [2099.98] Curry: which was annoying because in the video I stabilized, there was segments [2104.26] Curry: of like when it's pretty smooth and then you'd go into turn. [2108.54] Curry: And then when it does do the wobble, it's ever so more obvious [2112.78] Curry: because it's like smooth wobble, smooth wobble like that. [2116.62] Curry: So the the plan, well, first off, I'm releasing that video [2121.62] Curry: tomorrow so people can see and people keep writing the comments [2125.3] Curry: about how good their experience is with Jaroflow. [2127.82] Curry: And it makes me think, well, I'm doing it wrong. [2130.1] Curry: So I'm offering links to my raw footage and the Jarof data. [2134.98] Curry: And I was like, have a go. [2136.46] Curry: If you can do better, let me know. [2138.54] Curry: And I'll share it. [2139.82] Curry: If you can't do better, let me know. [2141.7] Curry: And then I know I'm not doing it wrong. [2143.7] Curry: So the the other option to do is think about the mount. [2147.82] Curry: Is the mount soft enough? [2149.5] Curry: But what we can't we can't I say we can't. [2152.86] Stephen: I don't you've got a camera on a stick almost though, haven't you? [2155.5] Stephen: It's like a really tall mount. [2156.78] Stephen: The cameras and kind of the cameras at the end. [2160.34] Curry: But what we can't do is is design something so elaborate [2164.98] Curry: that we come up with this really delicate like, oh, careful, [2168.34] Curry: because it floats on these little, you know, unicorn snot just there. [2173.46] Curry: And if you leave it, that's wrong. [2175.22] Curry: So so we need something that's reasonable. [2177.06] Curry: Now, I took on on board what you said last week, Stephen, about you thought [2180.94] Curry: it might be the sort of the elbow joint causing it, but it's got more more movement there. [2185.98] Curry: And if if I can shorten that down and make it a one piece, then that might be something. [2190.22] Curry: So I have to try and whip that up in my fusion 360 skills to see what I can do. [2196.78] Curry: The other option I was I was doing a little update video today [2200.62] Curry: for Patreon is perhaps going back 10 years in time. [2205.06] Curry: Who remembers the little rubber grommets we used to put under the little pad [2209.1] Curry: or a moebius sound, but before you were born, Carl. [2213.22] Curry: And that that's the sort of thing we used to use before there was any stabilization, [2217.54] Curry: before there was any JARO flow to to get those rubber grommets to absorb the noise. [2222.26] Stephen: To convince yourself that you are somehow improving the camera picture [2225.46] Stephen: because you'd spent four hours breaking up the camera lamp. [2228.66] Curry: The problem could be that squishy, squishy. [2232.86] Curry: That they are squishy. [2234.14] Curry: But how squishy do they need to be before the squishiness ends up moving the camera [2240.98] Curry: too much and then creating that that vibration? [2244.58] Curry: This is this is it. [2245.94] Curry: If we can get it down to, [2248.82] Curry: you know, if we're if we're pushing hard through the the wind and it's, [2255.06] Curry: you know, the grommets, for example, bend back, [2257.74] Curry: but they don't vibrate, that would be fine because we'd be able to do something with it. [2261.14] Curry: If we just end up with the same. [2262.98] Curry: It's vibrating because the grommets are quite soft. [2265.5] Curry: Then we're back on the same problem. [2267.74] Curry: This is something that possibly needs a little bit of experimentation. [2271.7] Curry: Well, what happens is always annoying. [2274.18] Curry: And the same thing looks absolutely perfect. [2279.74] Curry: But I like with a GoPro seven. [2282.86] Curry: There's obviously more weight behind a GoPro, [2285.38] Curry: so there's no possibility of it. [2288.58] Curry: I mean, there's just it's not going to get deflected by the area. [2291.3] Curry: It's not it's not flapping around, is it? [2293.78] Curry: Right. Like a lighter camera would. [2295.94] Curry: So it's obviously got hypersmooth on as well. [2299.86] Curry: But, you know, hypersmooth isn't quite the magic bullet. [2302.86] Curry: It would be if there were proper vibrations going up there, but there's not. [2306.9] Curry: So it's tricky. [2309.22] Koel: Have you tried the I don't know if it's possible with that run cam, [2312.14] Koel: but have you tried like a foam wedge option? [2316.38] Curry: Uh, no, because of the slight difficulty, it's a weird shape I've got at the moment. [2323.38] Stephen: Where is it? It's it's like a lozenge shape, Cole. [2326.54] Koel: It's like, yeah, yeah, yeah, I know it's kind of rounded, right? [2330.38] Stephen: But that cadet peanut. [2332.5] Koel: Yeah, I just I wonder if you could like burrow out a little hole in the in the. [2338.02] Stephen: What it means is like a one piece mount that holds it nice and close to you. [2342.34] Stephen: See, that's really high. [2343.34] Curry: That's what we're looking at at the moment, because we had to do nothing. [2345.94] Curry: Go Pro style mount for it that we then mounted into. [2349.66] Curry: So there's possibly too much movement there. [2352.1] Curry: So we can replace this thing with a shorter one piece. [2357.62] Curry: And I hope that's not as much movement. [2359.86] Curry: But it's kind of it's a difficult shape to sort of think about the foam wedge for. [2365.5] Curry: Yeah, it's possible. [2366.74] Curry: But it's kind of like it's a bit dooblyky. [2369.54] Stephen: And did they did they really design them for quads? [2372.42] Stephen: Because it's like a stick with the camera on one end of the stick. [2376.06] Stephen: And it's just it's hard to center on a quad. [2379.3] Stephen: It'd be easier if the lens was just centered. [2382.94] Stephen: And yeah, there was some sort of attachment on it. [2386.7] Stephen: That shape, that lozenge shape really doesn't offer any attachment. [2390.1] Stephen: You have to create a sleeve and post it into the sleeve. [2394.14] Stephen: Because there's no way to to lock it in place otherwise. [2398.7] Curry: And he's saying that looks too stiff. It's. [2402.42] Curry: Pretty flexible. [2403.58] Curry: So it was working in a half inch or something or three. [2406.86] Curry: It probably moves too much on a two and a half inch. [2409.26] Curry: It's fine. I have the feeling that if I put it on equivalent three inch to like, [2414.14] Curry: you know, a proper like fast three inch, I think you'd have the same problem. [2419.18] Curry: Well, Jack is holding up an all in one printed session mount. [2423.98] Curry: Session mount. Thanks. Yeah. [2427.14] Jack: I cleaned it up. It looks pretty good now. [2430.26] Jack: It doesn't look as. [2432.38] Jack: I mean, if you look at it. Yeah, it looks good. [2434.42] Koel: Yeah, it doesn't look stringy or anything. [2435.98] Stephen: It looks better than the ones I sent Cole. [2438.06] Stephen: Apologies, Cole. [2441.14] Koel: Yeah, it's all it's not how it looks, I guess. [2444.34] Koel: It's how it works. But sometimes I'm like, oh, OK. [2448.82] Koel: I got this one three print amount from a guy before. [2450.62] Koel: And the whole thing was like it had just like hard pieces on the inside. [2455.98] Koel: Whatever extruding. [2457.26] Koel: So when I tried to put a GoPro GoPro in it, [2459.38] Koel: it was just like scratching it up like crazy. [2461.9] Koel: So I was like, OK, I'm not using that. [2463.94] Koel: But I mean, if it looks like how it looks, yeah. [2470.7] Stephen: We will see. Yeah, I tried to print a couple of mounts for Cole. [2473.74] Stephen: I don't often print camera mounts, mainly just antenna stuff. [2476.82] Stephen: So I had to tweak the supports quite a bit to actually get the thing printing [2482.26] Stephen: and be able to remove the supports. [2484.86] Stephen: I was playing around with tree supports and I thought this is going to be great. [2488.42] Stephen: There's going to be perfect support. [2490.78] Stephen: And, you know, I won't have any kind of little dangly bits. [2494.58] Stephen: They'll all just be a nice flat plane at the top. [2497.02] Stephen: But then I couldn't remove the support because it's just so tightly fixed on. [2501.86] Stephen: I had to go back to traditional support. [2504.5] Koel: Yeah, you know, that's what I heard or what it seems like. [2509.62] Koel: 3D printing can be very, very trying and very time consuming [2516.94] Koel: and just to get it to work properly or to get it the desired outcome. [2520.58] Koel: It's it seems like a whole rabbit hole in itself that I'm afraid of. [2525.66] Jack: Anyone who has kind of like figured it out, like holds the settings [2530.86] Jack: like a closely guarded secret. [2533.66] Koel: Yeah, yeah. [2534.7] Koel: That's what it seems like. [2535.42] Koel: It's like once you get it, then you're good. [2537.82] Koel: But that's only if you're doing a certain type of print [2540.5] Koel: because I'm sure you have to tweak settings for different types of prints. [2543.02] Koel: Just like you were saying, right, Stephen? [2544.26] Stephen: Different printer. Yeah. Yeah. [2547.3] Stephen: You've got to people say, oh, yeah, this filament prints perfectly at 215 degrees [2553.74] Stephen: and then you'll do it on your printer at 215 and think this is garbage. [2558.18] Stephen: What's going on? [2559.54] Stephen: And turns out that your printer needs to run it at like 225. [2563.7] Stephen: And you there's no way of finding out. [2565.54] Stephen: You just got to trial and error it. [2567.74] Stephen: And when you print, you've got to make sure the filaments dry [2571.1] Stephen: or you end up with moisture in the filament, causing the filament to swell and jam. [2576.02] Stephen: And sometimes create these funny little bubbles and you get like closures [2580.46] Stephen: and things where it's puffed out because there's steam coming out of the filaments. [2584.34] Stephen: And yeah, it was quite stressful printing this summer [2587.86] Stephen: because I had to keep drying the filament again and again and again. [2591.7] Stephen: Just absorb moisture like crazy and then jam. [2595.74] Stephen: Yeah. Oh, yeah, filament changes over time. [2599.7] Koel: Yeah, yeah, see, I have enough, you know, headaches [2603.46] Koel: just trying to tinker with the quad stuff. [2604.94] Koel: I couldn't even imagine that. [2606.54] Stephen: Well, it's just like camera stuff, isn't it? [2608.9] Stephen: It's the same sort of deal. [2610.34] Stephen: It's its whole little world. [2612.58] Jack: Yeah, I mean, yeah, be fine. [2616.3] Jack: You just got to you just got to sit and then as soon as you cracked [2621.54] Jack: the back of it and you feel like you're getting somewhere, [2624.86] Jack: you start feeling better about it. Yeah. [2628.7] Curry: Oh, nice. And we just had the question flag up there [2631.58] Curry: about what's the easiest 3D design software? [2633.86] Curry: And a couple of people said Tinkercad. [2636.46] Curry: Yeah, not 3D. [2638.9] Curry: I had I had this little piss take thing [2641.82] Curry: where I designed this rectangle in Fusion 360. [2645.82] Curry: I said, look at my skills here. [2647.42] Curry: And then someone thought I was being serious [2649.3] Curry: and recommend this this tutorial. I actually watched it. [2653.22] Curry: And I have to say, it sort of I realized [2656.38] Curry: I was doing certain things wrong in Fusion. [2658.66] Curry: And after watching that, it's like, oh, this is actually pretty good now. [2662.06] Curry: So I'd have to say if you write, watch the right tutorials, [2665.7] Curry: especially if you need to go back and tinker with things. [2668.78] Curry: Fusion 360 is pretty good because the way you can just go back in time [2673.22] Curry: and change one of the components earlier without having to change [2675.86] Curry: everything else, it just wraps its itself around. [2679.38] Curry: Your changes is pretty impressive. I like that. [2683.86] Jack: Yeah, but aren't they being mean now with like the free subscription and everything? [2689.3] Curry: They it looks like they're being mean, but there's always certain work around. [2692.22] Curry: So you don't have to pay anything still. [2694.3] Curry: But there's there's a limit on like cloud saving. [2696.5] Curry: But you can if you find the right thing saved locally, like for ages, [2700.54] Curry: I was having to do I wanted to save as STL and had to go to cloud and come back again. [2705.3] Curry: But then I found out there's a direct button that says print 3D [2708.66] Curry: and then you can print 3D to a file and you get like a local STL file [2712.14] Curry: without having to mess around and stuff. [2714.42] Curry: So that they do seem more problematic than they used to be. [2718.34] Curry: But it's still free if you're like hobbyist and not doing commercial stuff. [2722.78] Curry: And it is it's pretty powerful stuff. [2724.58] Curry: I'm barely scratching the surface. [2726.38] Curry: But the fact is, I managed to do some designs recently. [2730.66] Curry: This this was my attempt at a a tripod mount for carrying my open HD stuff. [2736.26] Curry: This is TPU screwed into PLA so I could jam the stuff in. [2740.14] Curry: It hasn't worked particularly well. It needs redesigning. [2742.34] Curry: But I did that bit. [2744.34] Curry: And what it allowed me to do was the bottom there. [2748.94] Koel: I sort of a body body. [2752.7] Koel: We had a quarter twenty thread on the bottom. [2755.3] Curry: It's whatever a tripod one is. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. [2758.3] Curry: But but using using the basic thing that I could go back and do, [2761.34] Curry: it allowed me to prototype the whole so then I could make sure that was right. [2766.06] Curry: And then I could change my parameters back on this to make it big again [2769.54] Curry: and then print it out and stuff, which is all quite good. [2772.9] Curry: I liked it. It's worth it's worth messing about with. [2777.42] Curry: But you do have to invest a little bit of time and watch the right tutorials. [2780.82] Curry: Also, it's a it's a complete mind screw. [2783.9] Curry: If if if you just like, I'll just try using what's going on. [2790.29] Koel: Yeah, it sounds like a lot of things. [2791.41] Koel: And, you know, to do with anything FPV related, it's like. [2796.85] Stephen: Yeah. Well, it's either that or the DJI route and get someone else to do it for you. [2801.37] Curry: Yeah, I have to say I finally understood what it's like for new people coming in. [2806.69] Curry: And you know, when I ask a question, you say, well, it's be a flight. [2809.69] Curry: It happened to me. [2811.29] Curry: And if you guys watch the little video I did about me trying heli flying, [2816.81] Curry: literally, I got the heli and then I was like, right, what did these buttons do? [2821.17] Curry: And I read the manual. [2821.97] Curry: And of course, the manual doesn't teach you how to fly heli, does it? [2824.89] Curry: So I don't understand the buttons. [2827.05] Curry: I'm like, what's going to happen? [2829.13] Curry: So I had to I had to ping engine and what's this button do? [2832.49] Curry: I don't understand. [2833.65] Stephen: I really liked your explanation of that, by the way. [2835.81] Stephen: I'd always get a little bit baffled by some of it. [2838.37] Curry: It was it was really, really helpful. [2840.69] Curry: But if if you don't know anybody and you're sort of writing comments into YouTube [2844.65] Curry: and the YouTube guy just beat a flight, say, you know, what's wrong with these people? [2849.61] Curry: I apologize if I've done that before. [2851.61] Curry: I understand the newbiness of coming into something [2855.21] Curry: and not knowing what the hell is going on, [2857.45] Curry: even if it feels similar to something you've done before, it's different. [2861.57] Curry: And so everybody else coming into stuff like Express RS fresh [2865.81] Curry: is is going to be like confused and that's OK and everything else. [2870.89] Jack: You literally have to get into the mind [2874.37] Jack: of the person who developed or invented it. [2878.01] Jack: You know, you have to. [2880.17] Jack: And once you've been in the minds of a few different people, [2884.97] Jack: like it slowly gets easier, but like [2890.61] Jack: OpenTX, man, the mind of a programmer is greater than X [2896.45] Jack: and then logic switch to [2901.05] Jack: I'm just like, no. [2903.53] Curry: It's weird because every one of us that has like done a bit of programming [2907.81] Curry: is like, oh, this is perfect. [2909.17] Curry: This is so easy. [2910.09] Curry: And like every everybody else that is like, oh, you use this wizard to set up this. [2913.73] Curry: I was like, well, what I don't what if I want to use this switch to do that? [2917.41] Curry: And what if I want to use like logical functions [2921.37] Curry: that go into each other and rely on each other and stuff? [2924.33] Curry: This is fantastic. [2925.73] Curry: But yeah, I can I can see why if you haven't been in that mindset, [2931.49] Curry: the logical switch stuff is and the functions are really, [2934.77] Curry: really hard to wrap your head around. [2936.85] Stephen: Like when OpenTX announced that you could store the configuration as a YAML file, [2941.61] Stephen: I was like, oh, that's so much better than having to use that little [2944.61] Stephen: companion. Oh, my word, so excited about it, so happy about it. [2948.69] Stephen: And I talked to some people and they're like, this sounds horrific. [2951.93] Stephen: What? Well, why? [2953.05] Stephen: It could just it can just like copy bits of text around [2956.09] Stephen: and not have to press all these buttons and that. [2958.29] Stephen: But how will I know what they do? [2959.81] Stephen: Well, it's written down in the text. [2963.49] Jack: You can read it. [2964.89] Jack: It's like people who are just G code. [2967.97] Jack: I'm like, they are the matrix. [2970.69] Jack: You know, they just they're in there. [2973.77] Jack: They, you know, they could find the knobbly bit that they want to adjust. [2979.89] Jack: And I'm just like, man, rather you than me. [2985.17] Jack: And the hardest part is learning the vocabulary, you know, like [2990.49] Jack: I remember when I first joined the hobby, like why are we using S [2995.09] Jack: instead of C for cell and stuff like that? And [2999.33] Curry: oh, I've never thought about that one. [3003.05] Curry: Did you find out the answer? [3005.33] Curry: Why is it S? [3006.25] Jack: We already used it C for C rating, [3010.29] Jack: you know, for the current week and draw. [3012.53] Stephen: So we used to use S because it sounds a bit like C. [3015.45] Stephen: Three series for parallel. [3018.37] Stephen: Yeah. Nice. [3020.57] Stephen: That's helpful. That's what I always thought it was. [3022.61] Stephen: S is for series, isn't it? [3024.61] Stephen: No, no. It's just because the other less was already taken. [3028.25] Stephen: They wanted to use another letter entirely. [3030.57] Koel: Oh, like, oh, yeah, yeah. [3032.49] Jack: Yeah. The only time that kind of works out is two pack, two pack S. [3040.17] Jack: You know, three. Yeah. Whatever. [3042.97] Stephen: Yeah. So if you've got six cells and you've got three in series, [3046.05] Stephen: two parallel, it's three S, two P. [3051.69] Jack: Yeah. Yeah. One S. [3054.69] Jack: Yeah. One cell. [3056.93] Jack: Yeah. It doesn't work [3059.37] Jack: because, you know, one in series with itself. [3062.37] Jack: Yeah. And he put it out and he gets the sausage. [3068.53] Curry: He should come on the show. [3069.69] Curry: He knows his stuff. [3071.05] Jack: Yeah. What a useful chap. [3073.09] Jack: I know. It makes it sound like your argument makes it sound like [3078.25] Jack: we did it on purpose, but it really falls down on that one S. [3083.33] Stephen: Yeah, it looked like too much of a coincidence. [3086.05] Stephen: I thought, oh, that must be exactly why they're doing it. [3088.05] Stephen: But no, I don't know. [3089.33] Jack: I thought it was for you to pay. [3094.25] Jack: Richard Warwick explain. [3097.49] Jack: Too much science, not enough stick time. [3100.41] Jack: Maybe not enough. [3102.45] Jack: Me jerking that transmit net off. [3107.77] Koel: Is it a transmitter, though? [3109.61] Koel: Or is it a motion controller? [3112.01] Jack: It transmits the motion off the drive. [3116.09] Koel: It's a motion transmitter. [3119.77] Koel: Can you catch something bad from it? [3123.25] Curry: Well, try it on, I'm sure it'll matter. [3125.61] Curry: I'd more be worried about the motion transmitter with Jack twiddling around like that. [3131.81] Jack: Yeah. [3133.73] Jack: It felt really. [3136.33] Jack: Has anyone watched the new Top Gun? [3138.01] Jack: For good reason. [3139.49] Jack: Yeah, it's a new Top Gun. [3142.61] Stephen: Yeah, no, this is the one with the 60 year old Tom Cruise kind of limping around. [3149.97] Stephen: Yeah, waxwork. [3151.81] Curry: I did play the Top Gun missions in Flight Simulator, if that counts at all. [3156.73] Curry: Yeah, I guess that sort of counts. [3158.41] Jack: OK, I mean, mind you, you probably flew the Top Gun NES [3164.21] Jack: and actually managed to land on the aircraft carrier. [3168.21] Jack: No spoilers. [3169.73] Jack: No, I haven't. [3171.89] Jack: Because I could never do that on the Mega Drive. [3175.93] Jack: All right. No spoilers. [3177.29] Jack: I'm the only one I've seen it. [3178.61] Jack: So. I'll have to lend. [3183.49] Koel: Can you? [3183.81] Stephen: I'm not sure you can spoil most most films like this [3187.13] Stephen: because they're just like rehashes of something from 40 years ago. [3191.85] Stephen: Yeah. [3192.65] Koel: Hmm. [3194.01] Koel: FX nodes asking, can you even buy the DJI pack with the regular controller? [3198.41] Koel: No, you can't. [3200.89] Koel: Not at the moment. [3202.01] Curry: Add on. [3203.53] Koel: Yeah, and it's weird, though. [3205.05] Koel: Yeah, you can you can get it, but it's not a 250 bucks or maybe 249 pounds. [3210.65] Koel: I don't know what it is for you guys, but. [3213.25] Koel: Yeah, it's it is a bit odd that you can only get it with a motion controller. [3218.97] Koel: Yeah. [3220.57] Jack: Zero, the best mod. [3222.33] Jack: By the way, if you got the someone liked your comment on Final Glide, it was me. [3230.25] Jack: Zero says gone from Heli to quads. [3233.41] Jack: They aren't that different to fly. [3235.01] Jack: A quad in Acro is controlled like a FP Heli. [3240.33] Jack: You can compare a CP Heli to a quad set up for 3D mode. [3249.01] Curry: Yeah, which nobody does. [3251.29] Curry: What is it for? [3253.49] Curry: Fix pitch. [3255.01] Curry: Fix pitch. [3255.65] Curry: Yeah, that would be fine. [3257.61] Curry: So the biggest problem I had in collective pitch heli is the fact that your 50 percent is your [3264.97] Stephen: you will stay in hover. [3266.53] Stephen: And didn't no one ever tinker around with 3D quads just to see what happened. [3270.93] Stephen: Yeah, I tried it, but I did it in FPV. [3273.17] Curry: So it's not it's not that hard. [3275.09] Curry: I went for a while, but I still had that immediate reaction is like it's gone wrong. [3280.41] Curry: I'm dropping the throttle. [3281.29] Curry: And then you hear this horrendous followed by bushes breaking behind you somewhere. [3285.93] Curry: And the quad's gone in. [3288.65] Jack: It sounds I wanted to do it. [3291.29] Jack: I've got some props to do it, but it does scare the living down me. [3298.29] Jack: Zero, what does it what are you guys? [3302.09] Jack: Does anyone know? [3303.13] Jack: Why is it called collective? [3305.25] Jack: I just said curiosity. [3306.45] Jack: I've never looked it up and I don't know. [3309.09] Stephen: It's a good point. [3310.41] Stephen: Does that words not used in conjunction with anything else to imply that it varies, is it? [3316.25] Stephen: It's my knowledge. [3317.25] Koel: I don't know. [3318.25] Koel: I don't know. [3319.25] Koel: The collective pitch control is located on the left side of the door. [3323.25] Koel: The collective is. [3324.25] Koel: Why is it called that? [3326.25] Stephen: Why is it called collective? [3327.25] Stephen: Yeah. [3328.25] Koel: Yeah. [3329.25] Stephen: Etymology collective. [3332.25] Koel: Firstly, it does not control the pitch of the helicopter. [3336.25] Koel: It is named collective because it changes the pitch of the of all the main rotor blades collectively as in the same time or at the same time by the same amount. [3345.65] Koel: That's why. [3346.77] Stephen: OK. [3348.05] Stephen: Because it controls two blades at the same time, so it collectively changes the pitch. [3352.57] Stephen: Was there an earlier version of this where each blade was controlled with a different stick? [3358.01] Stephen: And I feel really sorry for those pilots. [3361.29] Stephen: The man who is pouring water over his action, too, is now now telling us that we should be pouring water over all our cameras, perhaps. [3370.29] Stephen: It's the way forward. [3372.29] Stephen: To use icy water in between packs for water cooling. [3376.29] Stephen: This was a must. [3377.29] Koel: Yeah, no, I'm I'm I hear you fail safe. [3382.6] Koel: I feel like it's actually probably a really good camera and people just aren't using it properly. [3387.6] Stephen: What? [3388.6] Stephen: Too dry. [3390.6] Koel: Yeah. [3392.6] Koel: They need to have liquid. [3393.6] Koel: They need to have active liquid cooling. [3396.6] Koel: Yeah, it was weird. [3399.6] Stephen: Like on a PC. [3402.6] Jack: Yeah. [3403.6] Jack: Like you you released your your flight video and people were like. [3410.6] Jack: You know, it looks amazing. [3413.6] Jack: I'm like cold can make most cameras look amazing. [3416.6] Jack: God damn it. [3417.6] Jack: Oh, yeah, it's man. [3419.6] Koel: It's not the camera. [3420.6] Koel: It's how you use it, man. [3423.6] Koel: How you use it. [3425.6] Jack: Would you like to use the DJI action camera? [3430.6] Koel: Play to action controller for Tomb Raider. [3434.6] Jack: I'm already holding another kind of joystick when I play Tomb Raider. [3440.6] Jack: I don't know. [3442.6] Curry: And Andy, I see is saying interestingly about overheats very quickly in standby mode. [3447.6] Curry: Have you tried rinsing under a tap? [3448.6] Curry: Andy would be the suggestion. [3451.6] Curry: Yeah, ice cold water and then fly. [3453.6] Stephen: It's empirically working for other products in the DJI series. [3456.6] Stephen: So just do it with the avata. [3459.6] Koel: Yeah, I think every DJI quad overheats easily just hanging out like my mavic. [3466.6] Koel: Although it is old when I turn it on, if I don't take off right away and I just have it sort of sitting on the ground. [3471.6] Koel: The fans will kick in and within like, I don't know, 30 seconds. [3476.6] Koel: It's like it really it starts to try to cool itself down almost immediately, which is. [3481.6] Koel: Yeah, I was. [3483.6] Curry: Sorry. [3484.6] Curry: So I was flying my mavic mini somewhere. [3486.6] Curry: It was just outside Death Valley because you had a flight in the park and I was flying it around. [3491.6] Curry: I noticed suddenly on my phone, I started getting like breakup. [3497.6] Curry: I was like, oh, this doesn't look good. [3498.6] Curry: This looks like it's overheating. [3500.6] Curry: So I landed it and I could I could barely touch it. [3503.6] Curry: It was that hot because it was like, you know, hundred and something degrees. [3507.6] Curry: But it literally the breakup on the screen. [3510.6] Curry: It's like I am melting on the inside. [3512.6] Curry: It looked that bad. [3513.6] Curry: That was that was very odd. [3516.6] Stephen: Unfortunately, all the pressures are kind of let's push the hardware to the absolute limit so we can sell it with a giant hero number. [3523.6] Stephen: And if consumers have trouble with it, you know, we'll worry about them later. [3528.6] Jack: We'll dial it back in software. [3530.6] Stephen: Yeah. [3532.6] Jack: Have you got have you released the video of that, by the way? [3538.6] Jack: Have you just gone to get what I think you've just gone to get what me? [3543.6] Koel: Yeah, I just ran to get my cat because she was making noises. [3548.6] Jack: No, no, I didn't know. [3550.6] Koel: None of that is. [3552.6] Koel: Oh, yeah. [3553.6] Koel: No. [3554.6] Koel: If you're referring to what I think you're referring to. [3556.6] Koel: No. [3557.6] Jack: Death Valley by name or and nature possibility. [3562.6] Koel: Oh, oh, oh, that one. [3564.6] Koel: Oh, that thing. [3565.6] Koel: I mean, I can do that. [3566.6] Koel: Yeah, I can do that. [3567.6] Jack: It's like it went. [3568.6] Jack: So old coal got attacked by Seagull. [3572.6] Jack: Yeah. [3573.6] Koel: Seagull literally kamikaze my quad and caused it to fall out of the sky and [3580.6] Koel: almost into the water at some type of beach somewhere. [3584.6] Koel: And but luckily the heat sink with this whole bottom thing is a heat sink. [3590.6] Koel: It like the rock smash though. [3592.6] Koel: And this is like this is some type of metal aluminum. [3595.6] Koel: I don't know what it is, but I'm very surprised that I basically just [3602.6] Koel: missed destroying my gimbal. [3604.6] Koel: Like it smashed here and nothing here. [3606.6] Koel: The drone is completely fine. [3608.6] Koel: So that was stay clear of dirty seagulls. [3612.6] Curry: Don't mess with seagulls.
