[0.0] Jack: Hello and you're listening to Let's Drone Out and special thank you to our lovely patrons that helped donate so that we could pay the editor to remove the swear words and silly things we say. Massive thank you to.
[14.0] Jack: Carlos Campos.
[16.0] Jack: Art Faulkner.
[18.0] Frank: Sam Dahmer.
[19.0] Frank: On with the show.
[21.0] Curry: Let's drone out now.
[23.0] Jack: Hello.
[52.45] Jack: Welcome to Let's Drone Out.
[55.45] Jack: Tonight we are joined by everyone's favourite curry kitten.
[59.45] Jack: Hello.
[60.45] Jack: The man with the moustache, Stephen.
[62.45] Jack: Hello.
[63.45] Jack: And me, bright until I fly, sometimes I like to mute myself.
[68.45] Jack: I've turned my PC on and it's just a wall of updates.
[73.45] Jack: You mean you turned it off?
[75.45] Jack: Yeah.
[76.45] Curry: People don't turn computers off again, do they?
[79.45] Curry: I don't know.
[81.45] Curry: That's the leading cause of computer failure.
[84.45] Stephen: Turning them off and on again.
[86.45] Stephen: I was just commenting in the pre-show on the glorious hue that curry kittens sweatshirt is, which is pretty impressive.
[93.45] Stephen: I do like a bright sweatshirt.
[95.45] Stephen: It's very bright.
[96.45] Curry: Again, Jank didn't get the memo about the bright primary colours and he's gone with black.
[103.45] Jack: Black.
[104.45] Jack: Black.
[105.45] Jack: Black.
[106.45] Jack: I can wear this if you want.
[109.45] Jack: Is that bright enough for you?
[111.45] Jack: No.
[112.45] Jack: No.
[113.45] Jack: It's getting there.
[114.45] Jack: It's not hurting my eyes enough.
[116.45] Stephen: No.
[117.45] Stephen: What's everyone been up to this week?
[123.76] Stephen: I flew a thing.
[125.76] Stephen: Ooh.
[126.76] Curry: It wasn't a very exciting thing.
[128.76] Stephen: Oh, well, a lead-in like that.
[130.76] Stephen: A coy little lead-in.
[131.76] Stephen: It's got to be an interesting thing, surely.
[134.76] Stephen: It's not.
[135.76] Stephen: It was one of those...
[136.76] Curry: Where is it?
[137.76] Curry: It's over there somewhere.
[138.76] Curry: It was one of those like...
[140.76] Curry: It's not a Mavic, but we're saying it works as well as a Mavic on its governor.
[145.76] Curry: Could you test it for me?
[146.76] Stephen: In a box with suspiciously similar cover art to the Mavic.
[149.76] Curry: Yes, except this one is £399, which is about £19 less than the Mini Air 2, which is a very good quad.
[162.76] Curry: And this one had promise when I started it.
[165.76] Curry: I only had a two-axis gimbal.
[167.76] Curry: It had its...
[168.76] Curry: What is chat doing?
[169.76] Curry: It had its yaw fixed by EIS, and I started flying it.
[174.76] Curry: I thought, that's quite good.
[175.76] Curry: It's doing quite well.
[176.76] Curry: But as I flew it higher and further out, the gimbal's on sort of this little shock mounting.
[184.76] Curry: And it seems like a tiniest bit of wind can induce the vibrations there.
[188.76] Curry: So on the sides of the screen, you had this action going on, which was a bit of a shame.
[194.76] Stephen: So you think spend the extra £20.
[196.76] Stephen: Is that what you're saying?
[197.76] Stephen: Yeah, very much so.
[199.76] Stephen: And it also had...
[201.76] Curry: You know that when you're sort of coming to land, you use less stick, because you're like,
[207.76] Curry: oh, I just need to make a little adjustment, bring it down.
[210.76] Curry: When I just did a little adjustment, this thing went woof, like that, and then it leveled itself.
[215.76] Curry: So I'm trying to come down on my landing mount, and I'm only a couple of feet ahead,
[219.76] Curry: and I'm swinging this thing around, over correcting it everywhere,
[223.76] Curry: because it doesn't seem to have good proportional controls.
[225.76] Curry: It's like tiny little bit, tiny little bit.
[230.76] Curry: But other than that...
[231.76] Curry: But it is nonetheless reassuringly expensive.
[234.76] Curry: Reassuringly, well, overpriced, I would say.
[238.76] Curry: I have to say, I cannot recommend this.
[241.76] Curry: If you're looking for something like this, spend extra £19, and you'll be happier.
[247.76] Stephen: If you want a floating camera, you do need to be really good to beat the DJI stuff, right?
[253.76] Curry: The thing is, the things I've tested before, they've been like £100, £200,
[258.76] Curry: and for that, you give them a little bit of leeway.
[261.76] Curry: It's like, this fly's okay.
[263.76] Curry: If you're just getting into it, you're a beginner, you're flying it around,
[266.76] Curry: you want to take a picture of yourself, it's fine.
[268.76] Curry: But when it's the same price, it doesn't work as well.
[272.76] Stephen: Yeah, it's got to have a vastly better camera, or be much faster,
[276.76] Stephen: or something that the DJI stuff can't do.
[280.76] Stephen: It sounds like they haven't really hit on some unique point.
[283.76] Stephen: Yeah.
[284.76] Stephen: If you were going to buy it, what would you be buying it for that a Mavic couldn't do?
[289.76] Curry: Nothing. There's no reason.
[293.1] Curry: Unless you want to switch the engines off and hurt somebody,
[298.1] Curry: because it weighs about 600g, so that's the only advantage.
[301.1] Stephen: Oh, so it's heavier, so it could inflict more damage.
[304.1] Curry: It can inflict more damage and involve having to use a license
[308.1] Curry: instead of the £249g thing that the DJI can do.
[313.1] Curry: Interesting.
[315.1] Stephen: So, yeah, a quad from maybe 2017 that inadvertently found its way
[320.1] Stephen: onto the market in 2023.
[324.8] Curry: Yes, essentially.
[326.8] Curry: As I said, the video transmission is not bad.
[328.8] Curry: It got out to a kilometre.
[330.8] Curry: Well, that was starting to...
[332.8] Curry: You can always tell it's starting to go bad,
[334.8] Curry: because you say, you're only expected to be smooth,
[336.8] Curry: and it's like nothing's happening, and it goes...
[339.8] Stephen: Just like that.
[341.8] Stephen: Yeah.
[342.8] Stephen: Well, wait for the sales.
[343.8] Stephen: Perhaps maybe it'll be a £150 special after release...
[346.8] Stephen: £150 special, you might give it a punt.
[348.8] Curry: Give it a blow.
[350.8] Curry: I was just about ready to go out with my Taro 129
[354.8] Curry: that I've put my Mega Ultra Rush FPV Max Solo into
[359.8] Curry: two and a half watts of power
[361.8] Curry: when I found out I needed to redesign my antenna holder,
[365.8] Curry: and what I found is my Fusion 360 free license,
[369.8] Curry: which I thought was a free license,
[372.8] Curry: now is a free license only for three years,
[375.8] Curry: and it's expired.
[376.8] Curry: So I've done this design,
[377.8] Curry: and it won't let me save it or print it.
[379.8] Curry: So it's just sat there on my screen taunting me,
[382.8] Curry: and I can't do anything with it, which is annoying.
[385.8] Curry: So I'm going to have to...
[386.8] Curry: Quite quickly to use something new.
[388.8] Stephen: Quick poll of the chat for your favourite free-to-use 3D modelling packages
[393.8] Stephen: if you want to do some serious little mounts and things.
[396.8] Stephen: What are people using?
[397.8] Curry: Which is a bit like Fusion 360.
[399.8] Curry: So you've got the...
[400.8] Curry: What's it called? Parametric modelling.
[402.8] Curry: So you can change your dimensions back several steps,
[406.8] Curry: and it all works.
[407.8] Curry: Go, chat.
[409.8] Stephen: Waiting.
[411.8] Stephen: Waiting.
[412.8] Stephen: Time passes.
[413.8] Stephen: Unfortunately, no suggestions from me.
[415.8] Stephen: I just grab stuff off Thingiverse and occasionally scale it a little bit smaller.
[418.8] Stephen: There's disabled people saying,
[419.8] Curry: I just print out a square and I whittle it down with a knife or something.
[425.8] Jack: Yeah.
[426.8] Jack: The trouble is with Fusion 360 is it's the best,
[431.8] Jack: and nothing is like it.
[434.8] Jack: No one's made anything...
[437.8] Jack: I suppose except for SolidWorks, which is even more expensive.
[442.8] Stephen: I hear a lot of people talk about Fusion 360.
[446.8] Jack: Pirate SolidWorks?
[449.8] Stephen: Pirate SolidWorks, well, that sounds...
[451.8] Stephen: Didn't you say you were using Fusion 360 and the free version just stopped working?
[457.8] Curry: Yeah, look, I will show you my screen of what it looks like.
[465.8] Curry: Share a screen.
[466.8] Curry: Take the window.
[468.8] Curry: Fusion 360.
[470.8] Curry: Here is my lovely part, what I done modelled,
[473.8] Curry: and it took me ages to work out how to do this angle from the bay.
[476.8] Curry: No, you can't save the thing.
[478.8] Curry: But up here it says,
[479.8] Curry: expired, subscribe now, and if I try and do anything,
[482.8] Curry: save, no, export, no, nothing, no, can't do nothing.
[487.8] Curry: Cruel and unusual.
[490.8] Curry: It looks very nice, neat model as well.
[493.8] Jack: It's a crying shame.
[494.8] Jack: How are you going to print it?
[496.8] Stephen: I can't, I'm screwed.
[499.8] Stephen: I suppose you can buy a one month subscription
[501.8] Stephen: and then find something else after this.
[503.8] Stephen: It's far too expensive.
[505.8] Curry: If you're not doing this professionally,
[508.8] Curry: it's super pricey, it's 50 something quid a month or something.
[514.8] Stephen: 50 a month?
[516.8] Stephen: Yeah, it's really expensive.
[518.8] Stephen: That's ludicrous, because you might only use it maybe once a month.
[524.8] Curry: Make me laugh saying he reckons it can be activated.
[528.8] Curry: He's going to use it.
[530.8] Stephen: That's the trouble.
[532.8] Curry: No, I've had it before where it's expired.
[534.8] Curry: They used to issue you like a year's license
[537.8] Curry: and then you just go and say,
[539.8] Curry: this has expired and you say reset it
[541.8] Curry: and because you have to log in to do it,
[543.8] Curry: it sort of updates itself.
[544.8] Curry: It's like, okay, all sorted.
[546.8] Curry: But this is not working at all.
[551.8] Curry: Don't know.
[553.8] Stephen: What about you, Jack?
[554.8] Stephen: It's not what you've been up to.
[555.8] Stephen: I'll wittle it.
[557.8] Jack: Not much.
[561.8] Jack: What have I been up to?
[564.8] Jack: I'm literally waiting on hardware for this,
[568.8] Jack: for the back,
[571.8] Jack: and that's all together.
[574.8] Jack: I've dared look at Oscar Lang's tuning beta flight guide
[582.8] Jack: and I am deeply concerned by it.
[587.43] Jack: And that's about it, really.
[590.43] Jack: I've just kind of been shipping stuff out
[595.43] Jack: and that's it, really.
[597.43] Jack: I haven't flown.
[599.43] Jack: The first Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday looked amazing.
[603.43] Jack: They were like blue skies.
[605.43] Jack: It was sunny.
[606.43] Jack: It was a bit breezy Wednesday.
[608.43] Jack: And then today, my first day off,
[610.43] Jack: it's just gray and crap.
[613.43] Jack: I went into town.
[616.43] Jack: Plus, I've broke my glasses.
[620.43] Jack: So I'm on my backup old prescription.
[625.43] Jack: So I had to go into town and I was like,
[629.43] Jack: can you fix my glasses?
[630.43] Jack: They're like, no, the insurance only covers a year.
[633.43] Jack: Buy new ones.
[636.81] Jack: So I spent all my money on glasses.
[641.81] Jack: So it's balls.
[642.81] Jack: Yeah, not much, really electronics wise.
[645.81] Jack: I just need to clear my bench, really.
[648.81] Jack: And I'm just waiting on standoffs and screws from AliExpress.
[656.73] Stephen: I had some of those arrive, almost a segue.
[660.73] Stephen: Got some nice sky blue hex standoffs from Ali.
[665.73] Stephen: Nice.
[666.73] Stephen: And three ones for my little build with the walk snail
[670.73] Stephen: and an 85 frame.
[673.73] Stephen: Eventually, when my arms stop hurting me,
[676.73] Stephen: I'm going to put together an ultra light with,
[679.73] Stephen: this is with the Viper light canopy from Sugar K.
[684.73] Stephen: It's going to have an F7 in there and a walk snail 1S board
[689.73] Stephen: running off the healthy five volt back in there.
[693.73] Stephen: And toys of the week as well.
[698.73] Jack: What has Stephen bought this week?
[702.73] Stephen: What bale of crap have we got?
[705.73] Stephen: Oh, I've lost it.
[706.73] Stephen: Where are you?
[707.73] Stephen: There you are.
[708.73] Stephen: I don't need everything else.
[709.73] Stephen: I wanted a nice small AM32 ESC,
[712.73] Stephen: so I found one of these Skystars 20 mils.
[716.73] Stephen: And it was running,
[718.73] Stephen: I thought it was running an STM32 that I could just flash,
[721.73] Stephen: but it's not.
[722.73] Stephen: It's a giga devices one.
[724.73] Stephen: I went down another rabbit hole that involved
[727.73] Stephen: getting two ST link adapters,
[730.73] Stephen: using one ST link adapter to flash the other ST link adapter,
[735.73] Stephen: which I've now labeled as CM Sys DAP
[739.73] Stephen: and generic programming adapter,
[742.73] Stephen: and then use that guy to flash the ESC bootloader,
[747.73] Stephen: which worked in the end,
[749.73] Stephen: but it was just like kind of ESC flashing hopscotch
[754.73] Stephen: with far too many steps.
[756.73] Stephen: But yeah, got there in the end,
[758.73] Stephen: chatted a bit with style sucks over on ESCconfigurator.com.
[763.73] Stephen: Was a fan of you bugs in that when I was flashing.
[767.73] Stephen: And I was going to put it in this guy.
[768.73] Stephen: This is a four inch that currently has like a 40 amp
[772.73] Stephen: BL Heli ESC,
[773.73] Stephen: and I was going to put an AM32 one in there,
[776.73] Stephen: just to compare it.
[778.73] Stephen: And I was also not sure about the motors
[781.73] Stephen: because I have been pushing those rather fast and hard
[785.73] Stephen: on 5S when they're not really supposed to.
[787.73] Stephen: So I have some RCM power motors
[789.73] Stephen: that I might put in something as well.
[791.73] Stephen: We'll see how that goes.
[793.73] Stephen: So general tinkering this week.
[796.73] Stephen: Oh, I'm trying to build stuff with beta flight as well.
[799.73] Stephen: I'm trying to make sense of the new build system,
[801.73] Stephen: which has proven complex.
[804.73] Curry: There's another segue.
[805.73] Curry: I just remembered we had a discussion
[807.73] Curry: about BFLite 4.4, didn't we?
[809.73] Curry: Where I discovered weird things or different things
[812.73] Curry: about how the OSD works,
[814.73] Curry: which was I was coming over.
[816.73] Curry: This is this same coil I'm trying to work with
[818.73] Curry: and it was on 4.0.3.
[820.73] Curry: And on 4.0.3, I plug in the USB
[823.73] Curry: and it comes up with the OSD page
[826.73] Curry: and I can update the font so I can change the OSD round.
[829.73] Curry: Then I can plug in a battery and check it all works all good.
[832.73] Curry: On 4.4, what I was doing is plugging it in,
[834.73] Curry: expecting to get that same stuff,
[837.73] Curry: and it was saying no OSD chip detected.
[840.73] Curry: Then I plugged in the battery and still nothing happened.
[844.73] Curry: What we found out after opening up an issue
[849.73] Curry: and then finding stuff out is you have to plug the battery in,
[854.73] Curry: then plug the USB in,
[856.73] Curry: and then it basically scans for the hardware and says,
[859.73] Curry: oh yeah, you've got an OSD chip and then it's all good.
[861.73] Curry: But if you do it the other way round
[863.73] Curry: or just have the USB plugged in, it doesn't work.
[865.73] Curry: And Stephen was telling me this is because previously
[868.73] Curry: it was hard-coded.
[869.73] Curry: It was just like, oh yeah, you've got an OSD chip.
[871.73] Curry: Change what you like and when you plug it in, it's all good.
[873.73] Stephen: It assumes every single board has an OSD chip.
[875.73] Stephen: The weird thing is I've never seen a board that does what,
[878.73] Stephen: Currys, because I've got a whole bunch of analog quads
[880.73] Stephen: and I've flashed most of them to 4.4
[883.73] Stephen: and I haven't seen one that doesn't bring up the OSD on USB.
[888.73] Stephen: But somehow I guess Currys' board,
[890.73] Stephen: the OSD chip isn't connected to the USB power.
[893.73] Stephen: It's only connected to the LiPo power, which is interesting.
[897.73] Curry: Which is really weird because the GPS and the receiver
[901.73] Curry: comes up as soon as I plug USB in as well.
[903.73] Curry: So you're thinking, oh, it's powering everything else up on 5 volts,
[906.73] Curry: but not the OSD chip, which is really weird.
[909.73] Curry: And obviously I've never seen it before,
[910.73] Curry: but that's because it would have assumed it was there beforehand,
[914.73] Curry: which is odd.
[916.73] Jack: What a pain in the ass.
[917.73] Jack: Anyway, lesson learned, I guess.
[919.73] Stephen: There's probably some feedback we can make.
[921.73] Stephen: The trouble is it's not a real Matek board.
[924.73] Stephen: It's pretending to be like a Matek F405.
[927.73] Stephen: As Caroline probably knows,
[929.73] Stephen: there's a whole load of clones floating around for Matek boards.
[932.73] Stephen: Everyone just calls their board a Matek board and uses the target.
[936.73] Stephen: And then butchers the hardware and makes it slightly,
[939.73] Stephen: awkwardly different to the Matek hardware,
[941.73] Stephen: so it's not entirely compatible.
[944.73] Stephen: And people have finally sort of got annoyed
[946.73] Stephen: with there being 15 different variants of this one original board.
[950.73] Stephen: And everything's sort of been broken on all of the clones,
[955.73] Stephen: just to make sure the original board works
[957.73] Stephen: and then let the clone manufacturers fight it out amongst themselves.
[961.73] Curry: Yeah, Caroline's question is,
[963.73] Curry: does Wayne's FC have switchable VTX power,
[966.73] Curry: maybe affecting the OSD chip?
[968.73] Curry: I was actually, I had nothing plugged in when I first started using this,
[973.73] Curry: and the board itself doesn't have a switchable VTX power.
[978.73] Curry: Obviously the VTX does, but yeah, when I was doing this,
[982.73] Curry: I was trying it with like nothing plugged in
[984.73] Curry: and then had the VTX in and then that was on pit mode
[988.73] Curry: and then it was all very weird.
[992.73] Stephen: Yeah, interesting.
[994.73] Stephen: A lot of stuff has been changed though.
[995.73] Stephen: There's been a lot of hoops to jump through to...
[998.73] Stephen: Yeah, because what you're saying about everybody says it has a Matek board,
[1001.73] Curry: if you're coming from a previous early 4 version,
[1006.73] Curry: it's the same old problem, it's like,
[1008.73] Curry: if you look at version, here is your board, it uses this,
[1011.73] Curry: so you go and say update it and it's like,
[1013.73] Curry: oh, that doesn't exist anymore, I wonder what it changed to.
[1016.73] Curry: And there's like this many Matek boards and you're like,
[1019.73] Curry: let's try this one.
[1020.73] Curry: So originally I chatted to you because I thought,
[1023.73] Curry: I'm using the wrong firmware here, I must not know something.
[1027.73] Curry: But it wasn't that, that was just a red herring.
[1029.73] Stephen: Well, there was the bit about the gyro and you were using the wrong firmware
[1033.73] Stephen: when the gyro didn't appear, but as soon as the gyro was working,
[1036.73] Stephen: you're on the right firmware.
[1038.73] Curry: Yeah, I mean, we did keep trying and we tried three different firmwares
[1041.73] Curry: just to see what would happen.
[1042.73] Curry: It's like, no, that one's got worse.
[1044.73] Curry: It fixes a completely different gyro, it doesn't exist.
[1049.73] Stephen: Everyone's also being...
[1050.73] Stephen: So there's the Matek F405 STD that you've got there, the standard one.
[1056.73] Curry: I'm using the standard dash clone firmware at the moment.
[1059.73] Curry: Yeah, yeah.
[1060.73] Stephen: It was the standard that didn't work.
[1062.73] Stephen: But that was the original board that they copied.
[1065.73] Stephen: The other one they copied is the F411RX.
[1068.73] Stephen: So all of the old little boards with the SPI FRSky receivers on,
[1073.73] Stephen: they all cloned the Matek F411RX.
[1077.73] Stephen: So there's millions of those out there as well.
[1079.73] Curry: This used to be the case with the...
[1085.2] Curry: What was it? The F3SP Racing versions.
[1088.2] Curry: There used to be millions of copies of those.
[1091.2] Curry: And then everything became an omnibus and that was the big copy.
[1094.2] Curry: And now the Matek copies are hanging around.
[1096.2] Curry: I guess it's just play with the month.
[1098.2] Jack: Yeah, the XRacer or whatever.
[1102.2] Jack: Like, oh, man.
[1104.2] Jack: Yeah, the copies that just did not work.
[1109.2] Jack: Well, it's fine if...
[1112.2] Stephen: A lot of them do work, but they don't copy it perfectly.
[1116.2] Stephen: If they'd actually copied it item for item,
[1119.2] Stephen: the entire bill of material is the same, it'd be fine.
[1122.2] Stephen: But they clone stuff and then they'll change the gyro
[1126.2] Stephen: from like an MPU 6000 to like a BMI 270
[1132.2] Stephen: and then still use the same target.
[1134.2] Stephen: And if you look at the original, there was never a version of it.
[1136.2] Stephen: They used a BMI 270.
[1139.2] Stephen: So when you go and actually publish a spec
[1141.2] Stephen: that deals just for the original board,
[1143.2] Stephen: you go ask the manufacturer, right,
[1145.2] Stephen: what's your bill of materials for this?
[1147.2] Stephen: And they tell you and you code all of that in.
[1149.2] Stephen: And then someone comes along with a clone board
[1152.2] Stephen: that has a completely different hardware bill of materials
[1155.2] Stephen: and it doesn't work.
[1157.2] Stephen: And then they're like, oh, well, your software's wrong.
[1159.2] Stephen: Actually, no, because we go to the manufacturer
[1161.2] Stephen: and ask them specifically what they have on their boards.
[1164.2] Stephen: But we don't know who's been cloning it
[1167.2] Stephen: because half the time the clone manufacturers
[1169.2] Stephen: don't even respond to an email or anything.
[1172.2] Stephen: They're, you know, dead silent.
[1174.2] Stephen: So it's just trial and error to figure it out.
[1177.2] Jack: What about that guy that was extorting everyone,
[1182.2] Jack: being like, if you want our board to be supported by...
[1186.2] Stephen: Oh, that seems to have been taken care of.
[1189.2] Stephen: Yeah, hopefully that's not a problem anymore.
[1192.2] Stephen: It's looking a bit dicey for a while.
[1194.2] Stephen: Yeah, there's a whole bunch of new CPU stuff
[1196.2] Stephen: that's slowly moving forward.
[1198.2] Stephen: It's looking very promising.
[1199.2] Stephen: And hopefully all this F411 stuff where it was dicey
[1202.2] Stephen: and it didn't quite work fast enough
[1204.2] Stephen: and you're balancing the speed of the OSD
[1207.2] Stephen: with the speed of the freaking SPI receiver.
[1211.2] Stephen: And it was just cutting out all the time.
[1213.2] Stephen: Hopefully that's going to be a thing of the past
[1215.2] Stephen: and people get something that's even cheaper than that
[1218.2] Stephen: but is way more powerful.
[1220.2] Stephen: So that's promising.
[1222.2] Stephen: Fingers crossed.
[1224.58] Jack: Only hope.
[1227.58] Curry: In my other catalog of errors,
[1229.58] Curry: I also tried using Betaflight connecting
[1235.58] Curry: over the ELRS Wi-Fi to the configurator,
[1239.58] Curry: which didn't quite work.
[1242.58] Curry: I tried it on my tablet.
[1244.58] Curry: And to be fair, I only tried it on like one quad.
[1248.58] Curry: And it came up, it found the port
[1252.58] Curry: but then came up with this error about
[1255.58] Curry: multi-we version null, type null.
[1259.58] Curry: So I have to look at that.
[1261.58] Curry: That's special.
[1262.58] Curry: That doesn't sound right, does it? No.
[1264.58] Curry: No, that doesn't sound right.
[1266.58] Curry: So I was mostly having fun saying,
[1268.58] Curry: oh, this has gone wrong.
[1270.58] Curry: This has also gone wrong.
[1271.58] Curry: Let's try and fix it.
[1273.58] Curry: Fun times.
[1274.58] Stephen: Oh, dear.
[1277.58] Stephen: Sorry we've been struggling.
[1278.58] Stephen: I had some lovely misty days out here
[1280.58] Stephen: that were quite fun.
[1282.58] Stephen: A bunch of flying through the kind of spooky mist.
[1287.58] Stephen: That's always quite a giggle.
[1288.58] Stephen: Could you get up above it and sort of look down?
[1291.58] Stephen: Yeah.
[1292.58] Stephen: Well, I mean, it couldn't get totally above the mist
[1296.58] Stephen: because I'd have to fly to like 500 meters high, I think.
[1299.58] Stephen: But yeah, popped up to, you know.
[1304.08] Curry: On those perfect days, I've seen a video.
[1307.08] Curry: I think Caroline's had a video like this
[1308.08] Curry: where I think he's maybe been on top of a hill
[1311.08] Curry: and the mist has been sort of lying down the hill
[1314.08] Curry: and you can just see the buildings
[1316.08] Curry: poking out over the top of it.
[1317.08] Stephen: If you've got a hill, I'm sure you can do that.
[1319.08] Stephen: I'm in London where it's dead flat,
[1320.08] Stephen: so there's not really that discontinuity.
[1323.08] Curry: You sometimes sit around Canary Wharf,
[1325.08] Curry: but again, you're frowned on flying around there for some reason.
[1328.08] Curry: People don't like it.
[1329.08] Curry: They have a real frown.
[1330.08] Stephen: I have a few about it.
[1332.08] Stephen: I also did a bit of 3D printing on a little toothpick as well.
[1335.08] Stephen: I think it's about 40, 41 grams.
[1339.08] Stephen: Really cute little thing with a...
[1341.08] Stephen: That's an all-in-one, five-in-one or whatever they call it
[1345.08] Stephen: with your Express LRS, OpenVTX, ESCs, flight controller.
[1351.08] Stephen: It's just got a camera plug and four motor plugs on it,
[1354.08] Stephen: and that's it, done.
[1356.08] Stephen: That's been a lot of fun because it does like...
[1360.08] Stephen: It does four minutes on a 380 Marr 2S.
[1364.08] Stephen: It just flies forever.
[1368.08] Stephen: Lots of weaving around stuff in the park.
[1372.08] Stephen: Don't have to go out and get into the mud and anything.
[1375.08] Stephen: You can sit on a park bench and go around all the dry bits.
[1379.08] Stephen: That's quite nice.
[1381.08] Jack: It's quite good.
[1382.08] Jack: I've been doing some 3D printing for Tony, some ESC holders,
[1388.08] Jack: so I do know we'll be dealing with him and his goddamn ex-class.
[1394.08] Jack: I've messaged him and been like,
[1397.08] Jack: you need to buy this, what about this?
[1400.08] Jack: Doesn't want to buy any of it.
[1402.08] Jack: Wants to buy it when it comes to it.
[1405.08] Jack: Nice.
[1407.08] Jack: Oh, well.
[1408.08] Jack: Is he rebuilding it?
[1409.08] Stephen: I thought he rebuilt it onto 12S.
[1412.08] Stephen: He's building a new one.
[1413.08] Stephen: Okay.
[1414.08] Stephen: He's keeping the old one at 6S and he's building a new 12S.
[1417.08] Stephen: I believe so, yeah.
[1419.08] Jack: Was it 8S, the old one, I think?
[1421.08] Jack: Fossil stuff.
[1423.08] Jack: Yeah, sent him some new gear.
[1426.08] Jack: Interesting.
[1427.08] Jack: Yeah, so I've been doing a bit of printing
[1431.08] Jack: and trying to decipher the dyslexic moron-ness of Tony.
[1436.08] Jack: Can you print me 12 of these?
[1438.08] Jack: Why do you need 12?
[1439.08] Jack: You've only got four ESCs.
[1442.08] Jack: Oh, yeah.
[1446.08] Stephen: I've seen some awesome prints for quads of that size.
[1449.08] Stephen: I think there's a guy called Noisy Boy
[1452.08] Stephen: and he's got some absolute monster builds
[1455.08] Stephen: that he does, you know, big 13-inch prop stuff.
[1458.08] Stephen: And just some fantastic 3D prints
[1461.08] Stephen: where I think one is draped in purple tentacles or something.
[1466.08] Stephen: Absolutely nuts.
[1468.08] Curry: I suppose when things are a bit bigger
[1470.08] Curry: and have real lifting power,
[1471.08] Curry: you can get a little bit more creative and fun
[1473.08] Curry: with what you're doing.
[1474.08] Stephen: A couple of reels of TPU on there and not notice.
[1478.08] Stephen: Let me just see if I can get the picture.
[1481.08] Stephen: Yeah, he's got some kind of Kraken-themed thing
[1484.08] Stephen: that was cracking up a while back.
[1487.08] Stephen: That's cool.
[1489.08] Curry: So what about Steven?
[1492.08] Curry: We have to ask every week.
[1494.08] Curry: What's the plane situation?
[1498.42] Stephen: The plane situation is Steven is not a happy man
[1503.42] Stephen: and has not got the mental energy
[1505.42] Stephen: to deal with non-quadrelated stuff.
[1508.42] Stephen: He's just about traipsing out of the house
[1511.42] Stephen: and flying a couple of packs on a little micro around the park
[1515.42] Stephen: and certainly not up for doing lots of soldering and testing stuff.
[1520.42] Jack: Most of the wing stuff just plugs together.
[1523.42] Stephen: I mean, yeah, I could just smash into pieces
[1526.42] Stephen: and throw it in the bin and be like, well, it's done now.
[1529.42] Stephen: But I was going to try and do it properly.
[1532.42] Stephen: It'll just buff out, don't worry.
[1536.74] Stephen: Let me see if I can...
[1538.74] Stephen: I found this giant quad.
[1541.74] Stephen: What are these shorts where people film it vertically
[1544.74] Stephen: because they're monsters?
[1546.74] Stephen: We're animals.
[1548.74] Stephen: That's the only way shorts work.
[1550.74] Stephen: They don't let you film it any other way.
[1552.74] Curry: It's just crazy.
[1553.74] Curry: Oh, it's absolutely horrible.
[1555.74] Curry: It's the YouTube version of this ticky-tock thing.
[1558.74] Curry: It's just awful, though.
[1560.74] Curry: It's very true.
[1561.74] Stephen: I don't want to do that.
[1563.74] Curry: OK.
[1564.74] Curry: How's the Tesla, by the way?
[1567.74] Curry: It's OK.
[1568.74] Curry: It hasn't tried to cure me lately.
[1570.74] Curry: And it hasn't, you know, had any big problems.
[1574.74] Stephen: You see that?
[1575.74] Stephen: It's an absolute monster.
[1577.74] Jack: Big bucket of wipes?
[1579.74] Jack: Is that for jerking off?
[1581.74] Curry: I'm actually a problem. It is, yeah.
[1584.98] Curry: I can expect you have to celebrate
[1585.98] Curry: after you've done a big build like that.
[1587.98] Jack: Definitely because of the left-handed mouseness.
[1591.98] Jack: It's a bit crazy.
[1596.03] Curry: It is a beast.
[1598.03] Curry: I feel at least you'd screw those props in properly.
[1600.03] Curry: It looks like they just push fitted at the moment.
[1602.03] Curry: That can't be right.
[1603.03] Curry: Not less than on that size.
[1604.03] Curry: Might cause some issues.
[1606.03] Curry: You never know.
[1607.03] Curry: Could be a problem.
[1609.03] Curry: Jack, what are you going to build next?
[1610.03] Curry: What are you going to do next?
[1611.03] Curry: What's everybody's plans?
[1612.03] Curry: Because obviously we haven't done that much.
[1615.03] Jack: I'm going to move this to my 4S rig,
[1620.03] Jack: which is the Kiss ESCs,
[1623.03] Jack: because obviously I'm not done torturing myself.
[1627.03] Jack: I want to finish.
[1628.03] Curry: That's the other thing, aren't they?
[1629.03] Curry: Those Kiss things.
[1630.03] Jack: Yeah, I want to finish this beat-a-flight build,
[1633.03] Jack: but I'm just waiting for standoffs.
[1636.03] Jack: It's a bit of a long story.
[1640.03] Jack: What standoffs do you need?
[1643.03] Jack: I think they're 5mm tall, I think.
[1647.03] Stephen: 5mm standoff, that's really short.
[1650.03] Stephen: I know, I know.
[1652.03] Curry: That's more of a nut, isn't it?
[1655.03] Curry: Standoff.
[1657.03] Curry: I don't know.
[1658.03] Jack: I don't know.
[1659.03] Jack: It actually looks taller than that.
[1661.03] Jack: I'm going to be chatting.
[1664.03] Jack: Hang on.
[1665.03] Jack: Let me measure.
[1667.03] Stephen: I have a box of M3 hardware right behind me.
[1670.03] Stephen: That's why I asked.
[1671.03] Stephen: We now do riveting podcasts
[1673.03] Stephen: while Steven gets calipers out
[1675.03] Stephen: to measure which standoffs that M3.
[1680.7] Stephen: Oh my word, the audio listeners are going to love this.
[1683.7] Jack: I know.
[1684.7] Stephen: We're now opening a box with some digital calipers.
[1687.7] Stephen: We're having a caliper off.
[1690.7] Stephen: I have a selection of M3 mounting hardware in front of me.
[1695.7] Stephen: Some of it is aluminium, some of it is plastic.
[1698.7] Stephen: I will be looking for a 6mm part.
[1701.7] Stephen: 10mm.
[1703.7] Curry: You could just cut that in half.
[1705.7] Curry: Sorry, is that the actual size you want?
[1707.7] Curry: Yeah, 10mm.
[1709.7] Curry: That sounds like a Tony mistake.
[1713.7] Jack: I didn't know off the top of my head.
[1715.7] Jack: I did say, but I measured it.
[1718.7] Stephen: Right, so that looks like an 8mm.
[1720.7] Stephen: I've got there.
[1722.7] Stephen: Not that one.
[1725.7] Stephen: That's it.
[1726.7] Stephen: 10mm.
[1727.7] Stephen: Do you want plastic or aluminium?
[1729.7] Stephen: Aluminium if you got it.
[1731.7] Stephen: All right, I'm out to get the other box out.
[1734.7] Stephen: There's a 10mm plastic.
[1736.7] Stephen: I've got 10mm black and white on.
[1738.7] Jack: Yeah, I've got 10mm white nylon on there.
[1742.7] Jack: It's meant to be holding the antenna.
[1745.7] Jack: So it will probably break off.
[1748.7] Jack: And I ordered a load of hardened aluminium screws from AliExpress
[1754.7] Jack: and they showed up today.
[1756.7] Jack: And then I've realised that the listing on
[1761.7] Jack: Emboss RC didn't include the 16mm one.
[1767.7] Jack: So I've just ordered those.
[1770.7] Curry: It's finally expressed again.
[1772.7] Curry: Yeah.
[1773.7] Curry: Is that like over 40 days then?
[1776.7] Stephen: Well, it's about 10% of the cost of buying them in the UK.
[1780.7] Stephen: That's the trouble.
[1781.7] Stephen: I've seen some ludicrous prices on bolts in the UK.
[1784.7] Stephen: You can get any size bolt in the UK,
[1786.7] Stephen: but sometimes it's like 8 or 9 pounds for a single bolt.
[1791.7] Stephen: That seems expensive.
[1793.7] Curry: Normally when I'm like, I want 5 of 1 screw or 10 or something,
[1797.7] Curry: I go onto eBay and it seems reasonable.
[1800.7] Curry: And there's like 5 pack for a pound and then get 20 for like a pound 20 or something.
[1804.7] Curry: So you just have lots of them.
[1806.7] Stephen: Yeah, that's what I do.
[1808.7] Stephen: I've got a whole load of little tidies with M3 and M2 hardware.
[1813.7] Stephen: Just keep it forever now.
[1816.7] Stephen: Sorted.
[1817.7] Stephen: Cool.
[1818.7] Frank: This episode was recorded in front of a live online audience,
[1822.7] Frank: downloaded and edited to make sense when it played audio only,
[1825.7] Frank: censored to please the iTunes people,
[1827.7] Frank: hosted on the internet,
[1828.7] Frank: forwarded through to your podcast provider,
[1830.7] Frank: downloaded, playing on your device and is now playing in your ears.
[1834.7] Frank: All thanks to our Patreons.
[1836.7] Frank: Consider joining them and you'll also get other online benefits.
[1839.7] Frank: Find out more at patreon.com forward slash let's drone out.
[1844.7] Stephen: Yeah, I tried to buy a titanium screws on AliExpress
[1848.7] Stephen: and I ended up with some sort of cheese metal a while ago.
[1851.7] Stephen: So I'd advise not doing that.
[1853.7] Stephen: I'm pretty sure they're not titanium because the head snapped off
[1856.7] Stephen: when I tried to tighten them.
[1858.7] Stephen: I think titanium is not renowned for being the strength of say Cheddar.
[1863.7] Curry: I think that's just a brand name they came up with.
[1866.7] Curry: Yeah, special titanium strength.
[1869.7] Curry: Because it's amazing how much graphite stuff there is,
[1871.7] Curry: even though it's not graphene, isn't it?
[1875.7] Curry: Graphene batteries, yeah.
[1877.7] Curry: Yeah.
[1878.7] Stephen: Those alternative batteries that were about 30 C were graphene.
[1882.7] Stephen: Graphene.
[1884.7] Stephen: It's amazing.
[1886.7] Stephen: Puff up after three flights, but they were totally graphene.
[1889.7] Stephen: They were definitely advanced battery technology.
[1892.7] Curry: That's what it was.
[1895.62] Curry: Now, didn't you have new goggles?
[1898.62] Curry: You were showing us?
[1899.62] Curry: Or was these not new goggles?
[1901.62] Stephen: They kindly hooked me up with a set of the V2 goggles.
[1906.62] Stephen: So I'm going to be obtaining an O3A unit now.
[1913.62] Curry: Now, just to get this right, because I got it wrong before,
[1915.62] Curry: in DJI, there's the DJI V2, and then there's the DJI Goggle 2,
[1921.62] Curry: which is the new one, which is the one that...
[1923.62] Stephen: The naming, just about everything about DJI,
[1925.62] Stephen: as you might realize from the camera platforms,
[1928.62] Stephen: is basically customer hostile.
[1930.62] Stephen: So that includes the naming conventions.
[1932.62] Stephen: You've got the DJI FPV system, which is the first version.
[1936.62] Stephen: Then you've got the DJI FPV V2,
[1939.62] Stephen: and then you've got the DJI Goggles 2.
[1943.62] Stephen: And the Goggles 2 are completely different from the Goggles V2.
[1948.62] Stephen: Those are two entirely different product lines
[1951.62] Stephen: with different functionality and different technical specifications.
[1956.62] Curry: And these are the ones that work with the new O3 unit?
[1960.62] Stephen: Well, they both work with the O3 unit,
[1962.62] Stephen: but these work in H264 mode, and the new ones work in H265.
[1967.62] Stephen: So it works with O3, but it's a slightly degraded range,
[1972.62] Stephen: but it'll do the job.
[1974.62] Stephen: Oh, OK.
[1976.62] Stephen: But it does do 120 FPS, and the new ones only do 100 FPS.
[1980.62] Stephen: Like I say, customer hostile.
[1982.62] Stephen: But it'll work, and I'm immensely grateful for having a shot.
[1987.62] Stephen: Now I've got to find somewhere that sells a cheap O3 unit.
[1991.62] Stephen: I was just getting used to the declining prices
[1994.62] Stephen: of the original DJI Air units
[1996.62] Stephen: that were getting down to 85 pounds,
[1999.62] Stephen: and the O3s are over 200.
[2002.62] Stephen: I feel you've got to be able to see more on there,
[2004.62] Curry: combining the words cheap and O3 unit.
[2007.62] Curry: As a non-DJI user, even I know
[2009.62] Curry: that the new units are very expensive, aren't they?
[2012.62] Stephen: Yeah, so I think I'll get one
[2014.62] Stephen: and give it a shot and see what it's like,
[2016.62] Stephen: because it's kind of akin to buying a GoPro.
[2018.62] Stephen: It's going to do the image stabilization,
[2020.62] Stephen: it's going to do the FPV feed,
[2022.62] Stephen: and it does the onboard recording, all that guff,
[2025.62] Stephen: all in one, which is nice.
[2027.62] Stephen: But it's going to be heavy,
[2029.62] Stephen: and it's going to take a whole bunch of power.
[2031.62] Stephen: So I've been running them off the onboard BEX.
[2034.62] Stephen: A lot of the boards I've got have a 10-volt BEX.
[2037.62] Stephen: That 10-volt BEX is often good for 1.5, maybe 2 amps.
[2042.62] Stephen: Some of the quads I've got have an 8-volt BEX
[2045.62] Stephen: that's good for 2 amps.
[2047.62] Stephen: And apparently the O3 is pulling
[2051.62] Stephen: around about kind of 17, 18 watts max.
[2056.62] Stephen: So that's going to be too much for a 2-amp 8-volt BEX,
[2061.62] Stephen: because you've got that simple equation.
[2063.62] Stephen: Power is volts times amps, right?
[2066.62] Stephen: That's watts.
[2068.62] Stephen: So 8 volts by 2 amps, that's going to give me 16 watts,
[2072.62] Stephen: which might be flattened by the O3 air unit
[2077.62] Stephen: if I turn on all the recording and stabilization
[2080.62] Stephen: and functionality, and then run out to maximum range.
[2084.62] Stephen: So I'm a bit worried about that.
[2087.62] Stephen: We shall see.
[2091.96] Curry: Do they have to run off a certain voltage,
[2094.96] Curry: or can they just go straight into the LiPo if you need to?
[2097.96] Stephen: It could run off the battery,
[2098.96] Stephen: but then you've got the problem of you get a prop strike
[2101.96] Stephen: and you get some back EMF.
[2104.96] Stephen: That's now going to go back through the motors into the ESC
[2108.96] Stephen: and potentially spike back through that battery connection.
[2112.96] Stephen: So not much protection there.
[2114.96] Stephen: Yeah, it could just nacker your 200 quid air unit,
[2119.96] Stephen: which is not really what you want.
[2123.96] Stephen: So, yeah, scratching my head.
[2125.96] Stephen: It basically means I've got to look at all the spec sheets
[2127.96] Stephen: for my flight controllers
[2129.96] Stephen: and the one that's got the beefiest back and put up on that.
[2133.96] Curry: Now, a vague change of subject here,
[2135.96] Curry: but we touched on it last week, and since that time,
[2138.96] Curry: I have noticed that every time I accidentally go to YouTube
[2142.96] Curry: or Facebook, I'm confronted by loads of,
[2147.96] Curry: now I don't know the word,
[2149.96] Curry: toroidal prop things.
[2151.96] Curry: What's the word I'm looking for?
[2153.96] Curry: Toroidal.
[2154.96] Curry: Toroidal props seems to have gone very much flavor of the month.
[2158.96] Curry: So every time I click on YouTube,
[2160.96] Curry: there's a new person experimenting with them,
[2163.96] Curry: or on Facebook, there's everybody.
[2165.96] Curry: Everybody in their dog is playing with them.
[2168.96] Curry: And I have to admit, I haven't watched a single video yet
[2171.96] Curry: because it was upsetting me how many there.
[2174.96] Curry: Has anybody, has anybody in the chat mess with them?
[2177.96] Curry: Have you seen any decent stuff from them?
[2180.96] Curry: Are these the promises?
[2182.96] Stephen: Toroidal, again, people say toroidal,
[2186.96] Stephen: but it's almost a little bit of a confusing explanation
[2189.96] Stephen: because it's not what I think of as a torus,
[2192.96] Stephen: which is more a donut.
[2194.96] Stephen: These are kind of a cylinder, but squished sideways.
[2198.96] Stephen: So the cylinder is now, instead of vertical, leaning to one side.
[2204.96] Stephen: So there's an advancing edge, which is one edge of the prop,
[2208.96] Stephen: and then the opposite face of the cylinder forms another edge
[2212.96] Stephen: that's also tilted in the same direction.
[2215.96] Curry: Yes, I suppose you would say the cylinder gets squashed
[2219.96] Curry: and then twisted and done three times round,
[2223.96] Curry: and that's your prop.
[2226.96] Curry: But yeah, I still haven't looked at an actual video
[2230.96] Curry: to see if there's any evidence.
[2232.96] Curry: It just seems like people have grabbed hold of it.
[2234.96] Curry: It's the new thing.
[2236.96] Curry: It's the only way to fly a quad.
[2238.96] Stephen: And I think it was just a slow Newsweek phenomenon
[2241.96] Stephen: buoyed up by the fact that this came out of MIT
[2243.96] Stephen: who clearly know what they're doing,
[2245.96] Stephen: but then everyone's gone and tried to replicate that on a 3D printer.
[2249.96] Stephen: And there's a very good reason why we're not sitting here thinking,
[2253.96] Stephen: I don't need to buy props.
[2255.96] Stephen: I've got a 3D printer because when you 3D print stuff like propellers,
[2259.96] Stephen: it comes out crap.
[2262.96] Stephen: It's not suited for that.
[2264.96] Stephen: And so people are drawing all these results,
[2266.96] Stephen: comparing the 3D printed propellers to injection-molded propellers
[2270.96] Stephen: and going, oh, well, it's not like this.
[2272.96] Stephen: It doesn't compare well in that garden.
[2275.96] Stephen: It's kind of meaningless because unless they've taken a 3D printed
[2279.96] Stephen: traditional wing prop and then compared it with a 3D printed toroidal prop,
[2286.96] Stephen: then there's like no control, right?
[2288.96] Stephen: You've got completely different manufacturing process and materials
[2291.96] Stephen: on each of the props as well as a different shape.
[2293.96] Stephen: So it's really hard to draw any conclusions
[2296.96] Stephen: from what people have done so far, I think.
[2299.96] Curry: Yes, but if you're out there listening, content creators and people doing it,
[2304.96] Curry: could you just stop because my feet fill up a crap and I'm a bit fed up with it.
[2309.96] Curry: Wait until some manufacturer actually produces a prop
[2312.96] Curry: and then you can test it properly.
[2315.96] Stephen: Well, good luck.
[2316.96] Stephen: I've been asking people to stop making so many cine whips
[2319.96] Stephen: for several years now and hasn't got anywhere.
[2322.96] Curry: I still don't understand why cine whips are a thing.
[2325.96] Curry: I kept explaining because I reviewed a lot of them saying,
[2329.96] Curry: look, this is a very specific thing.
[2332.96] Curry: If you're making commercial videos and you need to fly around people,
[2336.96] Curry: this is something you might use.
[2338.96] Curry: Otherwise, they don't fly very well.
[2340.96] Curry: They're very noisy and you don't gain any benefit from the fact
[2345.96] Curry: that they might not break as much if you crash them.
[2348.96] Stephen: It's like people getting a giant DSLR as their first camera.
[2353.96] Stephen: No, you want to start, moderate your expectations a little bit.
[2357.96] Stephen: Start with something that lets you learn how to actually consider
[2360.96] Stephen: what makes a good photo rather than just go for one specific tool.
[2364.96] Curry: As I was going to say, we mentioned GoPros there.
[2366.96] Curry: I've had a lot of, again, lots of stuff popping up my feed
[2369.96] Curry: with people getting really wound up with GoPros
[2373.96] Curry: and moving over to something else because GoPros tend to...
[2379.96] Curry: They keep getting heavier and more expensive.
[2382.96] Curry: They keep overheating.
[2385.96] Curry: See, I thought when I went skiing, it would be good
[2387.96] Curry: because I thought it'd keep my GoPro cool.
[2389.96] Curry: It did the opposite. It turned on for six months.
[2391.96] Curry: It worked.
[2392.96] Curry: It was out of battery.
[2394.96] Curry: You needed your light power warmer.
[2397.96] Curry: Yeah, I had to then keep my GoPro inside my pocket,
[2401.96] Curry: turn it on inside my pocket,
[2403.96] Curry: and then try and mount it on my head whilst taking off my gloves
[2407.96] Curry: to your holiday footage.
[2408.96] Stephen: Lots of excellent shots of the inside of your pocket
[2412.96] Stephen: stopping shortly afterwards the instant it got out into the cold.
[2415.96] Curry: Yeah.
[2417.96] Stephen: Yeah, but it seems...
[2418.96] Stephen: I've seen lots of, like, you know,
[2420.96] Curry: piss-take videos where someone's doing skiing
[2422.96] Curry: and, oh, such an epic line.
[2424.96] Curry: This is going to be beep, beep, beep, beep.
[2426.96] Curry: That nasty noise of, like,
[2428.96] Curry: what the hell is just going to run my GoPro?
[2431.96] Curry: Yeah.
[2432.96] Curry: I've had a bunch of cameras.
[2434.96] Stephen: I've never really been impressed by the light handling
[2436.96] Stephen: because when you're skiing, you've just got so much reflected light.
[2439.96] Stephen: A lot of the footage that I've taken with phones
[2442.96] Stephen: and with action cameras has just been a haze of white
[2445.96] Stephen: with a couple of black dots,
[2447.96] Stephen: and you can't really tell whether they're above you or below you.
[2450.96] Stephen: It's just white out with a couple of people.
[2453.96] Curry: Yeah, if you don't get the sun on it,
[2455.96] Curry: you've got absolutely no contrast whatsoever.
[2458.96] Stephen: You're like, wow, there's this epic hill I was going down.
[2461.96] Stephen: You can't even tell it's a slope. It's just white.
[2463.96] Curry: It's just white.
[2465.96] Curry: It's moving through some whiteness.
[2467.96] Curry: It can't be seen.
[2469.96] Stephen: Yeah, it's interesting that people are getting miffed with GoPro
[2473.96] Stephen: and then we're also seeing a bit of an advancement on the split cameras
[2478.96] Stephen: because I was all in on split cameras a while ago.
[2481.96] Stephen: Like, oh, I can have a so-so FPV camera,
[2484.96] Stephen: but a pretty decent action cam
[2487.96] Stephen: that was beating the likes of the old Mobius and things like that.
[2490.96] Stephen: And it feels like the 03 has made it a really strong push in that direction.
[2497.96] Stephen: Yeah, I suppose that is decent footage, isn't it?
[2501.96] Stephen: It's as good as the, I think Cole's got one.
[2504.96] Stephen: Was it the action two?
[2507.96] Stephen: The footage looks a lot like that in terms of the contrast, the colors.
[2512.96] Jack: No, he's got a 11 mini.
[2517.96] Stephen: Oh, who was it who had the action?
[2519.96] Stephen: Oh, sorry, it failed safe, I think.
[2521.96] Stephen: Might have been the one who had that.
[2523.96] Curry: Oh, is that where he was talking about having to pour water on it to try and cool it down?
[2527.96] Curry: Yeah, yeah.
[2528.96] Stephen: Yeah, that's a common problem.
[2530.96] Stephen: I don't think that works with the 03A unit.
[2533.96] Stephen: I think that's not recommended.
[2534.96] Stephen: Give it a try.
[2535.96] Curry: Yeah, but I did notice my GoPro 2, which was the first GoPro I got,
[2540.96] Curry: still going strong, seemed to work fairly faultlessly, perfectly.
[2546.96] Curry: Then I then got a GoPro 4, which was generally okay,
[2549.96] Curry: but then it started having SD card reader problems.
[2553.96] Jack: Very fragile.
[2555.96] Curry: I remember getting that while snorkeling, and it's like,
[2558.96] Curry: well, I can't go and take the frigging battery out and try and sort this out.
[2561.96] Curry: I'm under the water right now.
[2563.96] Curry: And then the 7 wasn't too bad, but, yeah, the 10, it had some lockups,
[2570.96] Curry: which is, again, take battery out and put it in.
[2572.96] Curry: And the 10 has been pretty bad for either overheating or being too cold.
[2576.96] Curry: But it can't decide.
[2578.96] Curry: It can't just find that just right attitude, unfortunately.
[2582.96] Stephen: I know.
[2583.96] Stephen: I've got an 8.
[2584.96] Stephen: I use it very rarely.
[2586.96] Stephen: I drag it out kind of when we're at events and stuff like that.
[2589.96] Stephen: If I'm flying by myself, I don't really want to carry the weight.
[2593.96] Stephen: I think that's the deciding factor for me.
[2596.96] Stephen: The quad feels sluggish.
[2598.96] Stephen: It doesn't behave the same.
[2600.96] Stephen: I'm used to flying it without the weight of the GoPro.
[2603.96] Stephen: When I put the GoPro on, it's like, okay, I'm going to do extra slow cinematic flying now
[2608.96] Stephen: because it just feels leaden.
[2611.96] Stephen: It feels like I'm hauling that GoPro around on it.
[2615.96] Jack: Yeah, I think I'm pretty screwed come this summer because I've got rid of both my 7s.
[2625.96] Jack: And I sold my Session 4 as well, which was the idiot can, you know, strap it to anything, sort of.
[2636.96] Stephen: What about one of these thumbs?
[2638.96] Stephen: They seem to have got an audience.
[2640.96] Stephen: People seem to be enjoying them.
[2642.96] Jack: Well, not Curry.
[2644.96] Jack: Curry was like, how the hell do you, you know, level it or whatever?
[2652.96] Curry: Didn't you get there in the end, though?
[2654.96] Curry: Was that the 4K one?
[2656.96] Curry: That's the 4K one.
[2658.96] Curry: They've redone it since, so the lens has changed or something.
[2661.96] Curry: But, yeah, I mean, the difference is the amount of effort it takes.
[2666.96] Curry: When you put a GoPro and you put it in hypersmooth, you can pretty much just fly it around quite casually.
[2671.96] Curry: You don't need to do any more stabilization.
[2673.96] Curry: The footage that comes off is good.
[2675.96] Stephen: And you can post the video that day, can't you, Jack?
[2678.96] Stephen: You can just take that footage and you can post it that day because you don't need to do anything in gyro flow.
[2683.96] Stephen: You see, I'm not sure this argument works for Jack because he's going to sit on that footage for two to three years minimum.
[2689.96] Stephen: And then delete it.
[2690.96] Stephen: In fact, he has to use the gyro flow, which might take an hour.
[2694.96] Jack: Forward everything to Cole.
[2697.96] Jack: He's the one dealing with it.
[2699.96] Jack: He's the one bringing it to the people.
[2702.96] Jack: Responsible adult.
[2703.96] Jack: Yeah.
[2704.96] Jack: That's why I have him.
[2706.96] Jack: He's awesome.
[2707.96] Curry: I find it to be a lot of work.
[2710.96] Curry: I don't like it.
[2712.96] Curry: Although I do like the form factor of this.
[2715.96] Curry: I might put it on my next plane.
[2718.96] Curry: I need to fly some planes because I thought...
[2720.96] Curry: What's the weight on that little guy?
[2724.43] Curry: Not much.
[2725.43] Curry: I haven't got some scales around here, but it's like, you know...
[2728.43] Stephen: Under 50 grams?
[2729.43] Curry: Maybe.
[2730.43] Curry: It's definitely under 50.
[2732.43] Curry: 20 maybe.
[2734.43] Curry: It's like...
[2736.43] Curry: But it seems in a bit where there's less general vibration, like in a plane,
[2741.43] Curry: it might do a little bit better.
[2743.43] Curry: It might take less effort to sort out and stuff.
[2746.43] Curry: But we forget, of course, that we came from the world of the little 808C cameras
[2752.43] Curry: and the Mobius, which didn't have any stabilization.
[2755.43] Curry: You just shook around and it's like, well, that's quite good, isn't it?
[2758.43] Curry: Look, I've got a video, HD video from my plane.
[2761.43] Curry: And now it's like, oh, no, it's got a little bit of wobble in it.
[2765.43] Curry: That's no good.
[2766.43] Curry: Throw it away.
[2767.43] Curry: Burn it.
[2768.43] Stephen: The gyro flow, I'm sure, will get easier and easier as time goes on,
[2772.43] Stephen: because half the battle is just turning the little manual sliders and dials into presets
[2778.43] Stephen: and taking out the user's hands.
[2781.43] Jack: Do they still sell Mobiuses?
[2784.43] Jack: Because I kind of miss those.
[2787.43] Curry: I don't know.
[2788.43] Curry: You can probably still find...
[2789.43] Curry: I mean, the fact you can still buy KK2 must mean there's Mobiuses out there.
[2793.43] Curry: Probably on A Express.
[2794.43] Curry: I'm sure they're out somewhere.
[2795.43] Curry: I'm sure you can still get an 808 camera.
[2797.43] Curry: I've still got one.
[2798.43] Curry: You can still get rung patterns for it.
[2800.43] Curry: I hollowed out a bit of one of my wings so I could put an 808 camera in there
[2805.43] Curry: and it still works.
[2807.43] Curry: It looks muddy and a bit crappy.
[2809.43] Curry: Each main camera.
[2810.43] Curry: Good old 720, 60, still works.
[2815.43] Jack: Boom, yeah.
[2816.43] Curry: But yeah, the people that were talking about action cameras have turned to the...
[2824.43] Curry: Oh, geez, Insta360 X3, is it?
[2829.43] Curry: Which is a proper 360 cam, which you can then stabilize in post nice and easily.
[2836.43] Curry: But it didn't seem to have the right form factor to put on a flying thing.
[2841.43] Stephen: That was one of the interchangeable bits where you just had a lot of clip-together pieces.
[2846.43] Curry: No, this is not...
[2847.43] Curry: Let me find a picture of this.
[2850.43] Curry: It's like a big capsule, I think is the best way of looking at it.
[2853.43] Curry: Oh, okay.
[2854.43] Stephen: I did enjoy the Insta360 software.
[2856.43] Stephen: There's an Insta360 Studio and I think their stuff does work with Gyroflow as well.
[2861.43] Stephen: But the studio that they've got, it kind of worked first time, very little tweaking.
[2868.43] Stephen: I've used that Smo4K a bunch of times and I think like 90% of the time,
[2874.43] Stephen: it's just select the start, select the end, choose how wide you want the view to be
[2880.43] Stephen: and the output footage, click stabilize, go, and that's it.
[2885.43] Stephen: Just does it.
[2886.43] Stephen: That is a weird shape.
[2888.43] Curry: It is a weird shape, isn't it?
[2890.43] Curry: Of course, people don't have to think about the shape because it's a 360 cam.
[2894.43] Curry: It doesn't matter if you're holding it or you've got on a stick.
[2897.43] Curry: But in terms of getting it into a...
[2899.43] Curry: It's terrible for a quad.
[2900.43] Curry: Yeah, in terms of getting into a quad, of course, it's very difficult.
[2903.43] Curry: But I am attracted by the fact you can do so much in post.
[2906.43] Curry: I quite like those pictures of quads, like you've got quad footage flying along
[2911.43] Curry: and then you've got the quad and stuff and you don't have to think about the angle.
[2915.43] Curry: I mean, it's quite nice, but it's not cheap.
[2918.43] Curry: It's like...
[2919.43] Stephen: It's just if you think about it, if you mount that on a quad,
[2922.43] Stephen: then if you're going under any obstacles, the lens is so exposed.
[2927.43] Jack: But it does get it above the battery.
[2932.43] Jack: Because if you remember when Andy R. sees a 360 thing,
[2937.43] Jack: you'd scroll to the back of it and then you'd just see battery.
[2942.43] Jack: So you had a lovely forward-facing image.
[2946.43] Jack: The sides would have that weird sort of...
[2949.43] Jack: It wouldn't quite mesh together.
[2951.43] Jack: But it's probably better now.
[2954.43] Stephen: If you're filming a quad, though, do you really want to show people
[2959.43] Stephen: all your wiring and stuff?
[2961.43] Stephen: Surely you want to just show them the area you're flying through
[2964.43] Stephen: rather than like, yeah, here's my quad.
[2966.43] Stephen: It's lovely to mix up, I think.
[2969.43] Curry: It puts it in.
[2970.43] Curry: And I thought this bullet...
[2972.43] Curry: The bullet time adapter was hilarious.
[2974.43] Curry: It's just, hey, watch out.
[2976.43] Curry: It's just the world's stupidest accessory.
[2980.43] Jack: Straight into the water.
[2982.43] Stephen: That is useful for clips of about half a second maximum duration.
[2988.43] Stephen: You can see that they're not holding onto those shots
[2990.43] Stephen: because after you've been around the person once,
[2993.43] Stephen: you're just going to feel sick, aren't you, if you're watching that?
[2996.43] Jack: Yeah, well, that's why it's only half a turn.
[2999.43] Curry: Yeah, vomit inducing.
[3002.43] Jack: Caroline says, I flew my RunCam HD Pro on Tuesday,
[3007.43] Jack: forgot the ND filters and got way too much jello in the video.
[3011.43] Jack: Joraflow did a great job of stabilizing the video.
[3015.43] Jack: My argument is, if I'm going to pick up a new camera,
[3017.43] Jack: I kind of want it to work with Joraflow or, you know,
[3022.43] Jack: if Cole desperately wants...
[3026.43] Jack: I'm kind of the opposite.
[3027.43] Curry: If I'm picking up a new camera,
[3029.43] Curry: I want it to not be necessary to dive into something like Joraflow.
[3032.43] Curry: I just want it to be stable.
[3034.43] Curry: Yeah, fair enough.
[3035.43] Curry: That would be better for me.
[3036.43] Curry: It's too much.
[3037.43] Jack: What I'm more sort of thinking is,
[3040.43] Jack: if it's available and I want it,
[3044.43] Jack: you know, I'd rather have it and not need it.
[3050.43] UNKNOWN: Yeah.
[3051.43] Stephen: Well, have the stabilization available so you can think,
[3054.43] Stephen: oh, yeah, I'll just tidy that up a little bit.
[3056.43] Stephen: Yeah, always.
[3058.43] Stephen: And it's nice to be able to do it after the fact
[3060.43] Stephen: because you turn off the stabilization and by default,
[3063.43] Stephen: you've got the whole lens.
[3064.43] Stephen: Because if you turn on the stabilization,
[3066.43] Stephen: you're just cropping in.
[3067.43] Stephen: So after the fact, you have that wider frame available to you
[3072.43] Stephen: and you can choose how narrow you want to go in.
[3076.43] Stephen: Yeah, it looks like 85 quid for the RunCam Pro HD,
[3080.43] Stephen: which for a 4K action camera, you know,
[3082.43] Stephen: a couple of years ago, that would have been just incredible.
[3085.43] Stephen: We passed them all.
[3086.43] Stephen: Yeah.
[3087.43] Stephen: They're doing 4K 120.
[3090.43] Stephen: No, 4K 30.
[3092.43] Stephen: Still, that's pretty good.
[3094.43] Jack: Who got saved by Polaroid, apparently?
[3098.43] Jack: Who did?
[3102.51] Stephen: Polaroid.
[3104.51] Stephen: This is following on for a post above about GoPro threatening RunCam.
[3108.51] Curry: I remember GoPro threatening RunCam
[3110.51] Curry: because the dimensions of their cube was exactly the same as the session.
[3116.51] Stephen: So Numskull's comment from that follows on from Tailspin.
[3121.51] Stephen: So he says that RunCam did it, that GoPro sued RunCam
[3126.51] Stephen: because they were sued by Polaroid.
[3129.51] Curry: Oh, that's right.
[3130.51] Curry: Polaroid bought out a cube camera as well, didn't they?
[3133.51] Curry: Yeah.
[3134.51] Curry: It's like the fact you can say, oh, we invented the cube.
[3138.51] Curry: It's our product now. It's slightly ridiculous.
[3141.51] Stephen: Well, I found out now that the reason I can't control my volume easily on my phone,
[3148.51] Stephen: apparently Sonos have claimed that they've patented the idea
[3153.51] Stephen: of having a volume control for multiple rooms
[3158.51] Stephen: and no one else is able to implement a volume control that shows multiple rooms.
[3163.51] Stephen: It's just f off.
[3166.51] Stephen: Patents are so terrible, just ruining everything.
[3171.51] Curry: I feel patents are fine if they're a proper invention,
[3175.51] Curry: but not if they're something fairly obvious.
[3178.51] Stephen: Yeah.
[3179.51] Stephen: It's just used to say we own this market and we don't want to compete with anyone.
[3183.51] Stephen: That seems to be what patents are used for.
[3185.51] Stephen: I would rather we didn't have to actually compete with anyone
[3188.51] Stephen: because we're making a lot of money here,
[3190.51] Stephen: so we're just going to use these patents to tell everyone else to go away.
[3193.51] Stephen: That kind of sucks.
[3196.14] Curry: Annoying.
[3198.14] Curry: By the way, I'd like to ask Stephen.
[3200.14] Curry: I'm going back to your DJI goggles again.
[3204.14] Curry: Are you noticing the difference between 60 and 120 in frames per second?
[3209.14] Curry: Because when I play a game at 60 frames per second
[3212.14] Curry: and the same game on 120 frames per second, quite honestly,
[3216.14] Curry: I would find it very hard to tell unless I really stared
[3218.14] Curry: and really concentrated hard.
[3220.14] Jack: Can I ask you a question?
[3222.14] Jack: Can you tell the difference between 50 and 60 hertz?
[3227.14] Curry: Well, it depends if you've got that border down the bottom.
[3230.14] Curry: Yeah.
[3232.14] Stephen: Got an extra two, three lines on your OSD.
[3236.14] Stephen: You've answered it with a pal question.
[3239.14] Stephen: Yeah, your NTSC, you've got like a much bigger OSD.
[3243.14] Stephen: And if you've got a slightly smaller text, that means it's pal.
[3246.14] Stephen: Now, I've not been put off by the slower frame rate, the 60 FPS stuff.
[3253.14] Stephen: It does feel a teensy bit smoother to step up to the 100 or 120,
[3258.14] Stephen: but the type of flying I do doesn't ruin my day.
[3263.14] Stephen: What I do find is if I go up to 120 FPS, I'm getting a lot more compression,
[3270.14] Stephen: and I tend to run a lower FPS because I'd rather get less compression.
[3276.14] Stephen: On DGI, it's very obvious because that's kind of first generation digital.
[3282.14] Stephen: And it was great most of the time.
[3284.14] Stephen: And if you're in a beautiful sun-kissed meadow,
[3286.14] Stephen: you're out with California somewhere where rain is a legend that no one believes
[3291.14] Stephen: and the sun is out every day, then you've got no problem.
[3294.14] Stephen: The camera copes beautifully.
[3296.14] Stephen: If you're in England, and it's January or December,
[3300.14] Stephen: and the sky is a kind of pencil shaded lead and gray,
[3305.14] Stephen: and there's mud everywhere,
[3307.14] Stephen: then DGI 100 FPS gives you just kind of a smooth soup-like finish over the brown ground
[3316.14] Stephen: where you can't make out any details.
[3319.14] Stephen: And for that reason, I tend to go down to 60 FPS so it gets less compressed
[3324.14] Stephen: so there's slightly more detail in the ground,
[3326.14] Stephen: and there's slightly more detail in the little branches
[3329.14] Stephen: that might whip out and catch me and stuff like that.
[3332.14] Stephen: Interesting.
[3334.14] Curry: Long answer.
[3336.14] Curry: People are saying they notice it.
[3338.14] Curry: They have to do some blind tests.
[3340.14] Curry: Then again, if you concentrate, you can generally see it, can't you?
[3344.14] Curry: Yeah.
[3345.14] Stephen: There's also the CADX walnut that Andy R.C. was talking about a while ago.
[3351.14] Stephen: It kind of slowly slid out.
[3354.14] Stephen: It wasn't really a big bang release as much as a slow plop release, the CADX walnut.
[3360.14] Stephen: But it's been out for a while now, long enough that it seems to be going through some discounts.
[3366.14] Stephen: I think it's...
[3368.14] Stephen: I have heard on the grapevine that it's okay so long as you don't use the ultra-wide field of view.
[3375.14] Stephen: So if you're doing like 2.7K, it's all right.
[3379.14] Stephen: If you go to the full 4K, you get problems because the edge of the camera casing
[3387.14] Stephen: is visible through the lens a little bit.
[3390.14] Stephen: Especially if you're flying into bright light, then you get little bit visual artifacts.
[3396.14] Stephen: I like it.
[3397.14] Stephen: A lot of the reviewers apparently have gone down to 2.7K to make it look a bit nicer.
[3402.14] Stephen: A lot of people seem to like 2.7K anyway, so whatever.
[3407.14] Curry: So wide angle, you can see the inside of the camera.
[3410.14] Stephen: Yeah, literally.
[3412.14] Stephen: That's the problem.
[3414.14] Jack: Crazy.
[3415.14] Stephen: Anyway, that's at 130, and I guess you get the battery and everything inside that.
[3420.14] Stephen: So it's more like a regular action camera.
[3423.14] Stephen: Whereas the thumb, you've got to mess around with connecting it to a five-volt line or something.
[3429.14] Curry: Yeah, or just get a balance connector for it, basically, and do that.
[3434.14] Curry: That's amazing.
[3436.14] Jack: Curry, who did you report your Radiomaster box ghost fitting issue to?
[3446.14] Curry: Well, it wasn't just the ghost.
[3448.14] Curry: That was the problem.
[3450.14] Curry: Again, back on the Tyro quad, that had an R9 in it.
[3455.14] Curry: So I took the R9 receiver out.
[3458.14] Curry: I converted it over to ExpressRS.
[3460.14] Curry: I updated my old R9 module over to 3.2K.
[3467.14] Curry: And then when I tried to take it out of the boxer, I was like, it's not coming out.
[3473.14] Curry: The clips, I couldn't push them in hard enough to get them out.
[3477.14] Curry: What I had to do in the end is unscrew the module, take the outside box out,
[3483.14] Curry: and then the inner box has more flex so I could actually take it out.
[3487.14] Curry: So I asked them if they'd had any reports.
[3489.14] Curry: I said the ghost module's very, very tight.
[3493.14] Curry: And other ones, I can't get back out again without having to do extra stuff.
[3498.14] Curry: So they asked me to send them a video, which I did.
[3501.14] Curry: I showed them a video of me getting the ghost.
[3503.14] Curry: Basically, I pushed it, and I was like, I'm not going in the way with this
[3506.14] Curry: because it was just too tight.
[3508.14] Curry: And then I showed them the R9, and I was like, look, I can't get it out.
[3513.14] Curry: So they're going to go away and look at it, then,
[3515.14] Curry: that hopefully they'll change the molding to the back.
[3518.14] Curry: I think what they've got, looking at how it gets stuck,
[3521.14] Curry: obviously it's a little bit small because that ghost module's so tight,
[3525.14] Curry: but they've got too much of a lip that holds, you know,
[3528.14] Curry: you've got the normal, all these modules,
[3531.14] Curry: you've got these little push-in things for the JR modules.
[3534.14] Curry: And I think there's a lip that comes out too far,
[3538.14] Curry: so you can't push it in hard enough to get the whole module back out again
[3543.14] Curry: because you need to flex beyond what it will do.
[3547.14] Curry: As I said, if I take that bit out,
[3549.14] Curry: the little rectangular plastic will flex a bit,
[3553.14] Curry: and that way I can get it out.
[3555.14] Curry: So I'm waiting to hear back to see what they're going to do about it.
[3559.14] Curry: Hopefully something, though, because it's a really nice radio.
[3563.14] Curry: You need to sand the lip slightly.
[3565.14] Curry: Yeah, apart from the fact you can't get the modules out
[3567.14] Curry: and you can't get one of them in very well.
[3569.14] Curry: Is it just the ghost module or every module you've tried?
[3571.14] Curry: It's every module.
[3572.14] Curry: The ghost is really, really tight for getting in.
[3574.14] Curry: Everything else goes in okay, but it doesn't come out again.
[3578.14] Curry: Wow.
[3579.14] Jack: So that is a problem.
[3581.14] Jack: Hopefully they won't go the other way where modules just flop out
[3585.14] Jack: and then, because that will be the worst, as if they update it.
[3590.14] Curry: I can't believe they didn't test the mold, though.
[3592.14] Curry: That's weird.
[3593.14] Curry: It's weird, because I tested it against the TX12,
[3596.14] Curry: which is the radio they just had before that,
[3598.14] Curry: and everything goes in and out perfect.
[3600.14] Curry: The ghost must be a little bit bigger than other modules
[3602.14] Curry: because it was still a little tight, but it's still in and out, no problem.
[3607.14] Stephen: It's nuts.
[3610.14] Stephen: It must just be fractions of a millimeter as well.
[3613.14] Stephen: It's a huge difference, so if you can actually get it in to start with.
[3617.14] Curry: Yeah, it's not much, but there's something different in it.
[3620.14] Curry: They may have tested it with their own Ranger module
[3623.14] Curry: because the Ranger module, it's kind of the actual module piggybacks
[3628.14] Curry: on the back of the little surround,
[3630.14] Curry: so I could just about get that out without too much hassle.
[3635.14] Jack: Because that's an external big boy.
[3638.14] Curry: Yeah, because it's in the back of something.
[3641.14] Curry: It's literally, you've got almost this little surround,
[3645.14] Curry: and then the module is like this brick on top of that.
[3649.14] Curry: Because you've just got that more flexible case,
[3653.14] Curry: you can push these in hard enough to get it out,
[3656.14] Curry: but on all other modules, you can't actually broke a big FPV module
[3660.14] Curry: trying to get it out.
[3662.14] Curry: I broke the bleeder back on that.
[3665.14] Curry: But I had screwdrivers going here.
[3667.14] Curry: I broke the lip off one of these,
[3669.14] Curry: trying to get a wedge under there whilst trying to put pressure on that one.
[3672.14] Curry: It was like, bing, oh, dear, broken it.
[3675.14] Curry: And I smashed some of those together
[3679.14] Curry: trying to get some from the other side pushing it.
[3681.14] Curry: So it is quite a problem, I think, potentially.
[3685.14] Jack: We might have to get some white lithium grease in there
[3690.14] Jack: to lube everything.
[3692.14] Curry: We might have to do something.
[3695.14] Curry: I'm sure if we took something apart and looked at it,
[3698.14] Curry: if you just had the surround, put it in there,
[3700.14] Curry: you could probably tell me it was.
[3702.14] Stephen: Maybe that was the point.
[3704.14] Stephen: The little dishes that RadioMaster ship out with the lube in,
[3708.14] Stephen: you were supposed to use it on the module as well as the gimbals.
[3711.14] Stephen: Maybe that's it.
[3712.14] Stephen: You just weren't paying attention.
[3713.14] Stephen: Maybe that was in the small print.
[3715.14] Stephen: Requires module lube.
[3717.14] Curry: I think it's going to take a little bit of modding,
[3720.14] Curry: a little bit of sanding something away in there.
[3723.14] Curry: Jack knows all about lube.
[3725.14] Curry: Indeed.
[3727.14] Stephen: That's Sticky Jack's glue emporium, I think you'll find.
[3730.14] Stephen: I know, I know.
[3733.14] Curry: Can also double as lube.
[3734.14] Stephen: We're still looking for a logo.
[3736.14] Stephen: If anyone can do Sticky Jack's glue emporium,
[3740.14] Stephen: that would be fantastic.
[3741.14] Stephen: You've got Jack's beaming face here.
[3743.14] Stephen: We just need a stylised version of that.
[3746.14] Stephen: I was thinking with a big thumbs up.
[3749.14] Stephen: I like it, can I?
[3750.14] Stephen: Maybe with a bit of glue just sort of coming off the thumb,
[3754.14] Stephen: just dribbling off the thumb.
[3759.14] Stephen: Jack's not sure about this.
[3761.14] Curry: I would ask my daughter, but last time I asked her for a logo,
[3764.14] Curry: she said it would be like 300 quid or something.
[3767.14] Curry: I said I don't think we're going to pay that.
[3769.14] Curry: Go to five or something instead.
[3771.14] Jack: Why would she charge you?
[3773.14] Jack: You've given her the best years of your life.
[3776.14] Curry: I tried this argument and apparently that doesn't work.
[3780.14] Curry: And then she said fill up my car with petrol.
[3782.14] Curry: Best years.
[3784.14] Stephen: Six out of ten, six out of ten, that's it.
[3788.74] Jack: I know, well I was looking forward to maybe having an option
[3791.74] Jack: to like move away from the tyrannous hell that I live in.
[3799.74] Jack: There's nothing worse than two of them.
[3803.74] Jack: I know, tranoy.
[3805.74] Jack: And I'm just like, oh man.
[3807.74] Stephen: It's like Stockholm Syndrome with old hardware.
[3811.74] Stephen: Jack and his cat.
[3812.74] Stephen: Yeah, I know.
[3813.74] Stephen: He loves it because that's what he knows.
[3817.74] Stephen: Even if it hurts him.
[3819.74] Jack: It would be nice to have something with built in the LRS
[3823.74] Jack: and then I can use the module bay for the ghost.
[3826.74] Jack: What can you?
[3827.74] Curry: You can hammer it in there.
[3829.74] Jack: Yeah, that's it.
[3830.74] Jack: Put it in.
[3831.74] Jack: Never comes out.
[3832.74] Jack: Why would you want to use anything else?
[3835.74] Jack: Because like I'm not using Crossfire.
[3838.74] Jack: That's still all in my plane.
[3840.74] Jack: So who knows.
[3844.12] Jack: All right.
[3845.12] Jack: That's all we've got time for, unfortunately.
[3848.12] Jack: But thank you to all our Patreons.
[3852.12] Jack: You've been listening to Let's Drone Out.
[3854.12] Jack: You've been joined by everyone's favourite Kerry Kitten.
[3857.12] Jack: Goodbye.
[3858.12] Jack: The man with the terrible posture.
[3864.12] Stephen: It's better this way.
[3865.12] Stephen: I could just keep the shoulders stretched.
[3867.12] Stephen: Thanks, everyone.
[3869.12] Jack: And I've been brought into Life Lie.
[3871.12] Jack: This show is sponsored by our lovely Patreons who keep it running.
[3875.12] Jack: Thank you, guys.
[3876.12] Jack: You guys are the best.
[3877.12] Jack: Thank you to everyone who showed up and said hello.
[3881.12] Jack: A few of those wonderful people who caught us live on the Thursday
[3885.12] Jack: were Tailspin, Gusto, Flight One, Numskull, Karl, Caroline,
[3891.12] Jack: Make Me Lab, MK Me Lab.
[3896.12] Jack: I don't know how you pronounce that.
[3898.12] Jack: I'm sure.
[3899.12] Jack: Just Make Me Lab.
[3900.12] Jack: Yeah.
[3901.12] Jack: Make Me Lab.
[3902.12] Jack: Load of lines.
[3903.12] Jack: Tailspin, Shady.
[3905.12] Jack: All those cool people.
[3907.12] Jack: Thank you, guys.
[3909.12] Jack: Karl and my darling wife, Tony.
[3913.12] Jack: And what a static fire indeed.
[3917.12] Jack: Thank you.
[3918.12] Jack: Good night.
[3919.12] Jack: Bye.
[3920.12] Stephen: Bye.
[3921.12] Stephen: Telemetry lost.
