[158.13] Simon: Well, okay. Yeah, so we have a new location.
[162.13] Simon: We recently announced that sort of early on in the month.
[165.13] Simon: So we've moved away from the Clips Zone Coloree.
[168.13] Simon: Obviously doing, like I said, two successful years at Clips Zone Coloree.
[172.13] Simon: Now we've found somewhere that's the new and completely different for all the guys that are going to come along and fly around.
[180.13] Simon: It's an awesome place.

[203.13] Curry: Can you give a quick overview of what FPV Dronefest is and what it's all about?
[208.13] Simon: Yeah, so it's currently the only UK FPV Dronefest festival.
[215.13] Simon: It's basically an event for everyone that's in the FPV community to come along
[220.13] Simon: and come together as a community and show off their skills, their flying skills,
[227.13] Simon: whether they're new people or been flying for a long, long time.
[232.13] Simon: It's somewhere that we can all get together, have a great weekend,
[238.13] Simon: give out some prizes along the way.
[241.13] Simon: Everybody gets round, a bit of social life at the same time as well,
[244.13] Simon: sort of meets and greets, and really sort of promotes the actual hobby itself.
[249.13] Stephen: Absolutely excellent.
[250.13] Stephen: You had a few competitions last year, you got quite a few people there.
[253.13] Stephen: How many flyers do you think you're going to be able to fit into the new location?
[257.13] Go Nut FPV: So we have a maximum of 60 due to video channels
[262.13] Go Nut FPV: and people getting decent amount of flight time.
[266.13] Go Nut FPV: Let's wait for this video to finish.
[269.13] Stephen: That's a nice big location, isn't it?
[272.13] Stephen: Yeah, there's more than meets the eye there as well.
[276.13] Stephen: It looks like it's going to lend to people spreading out a bit more as well,
[279.13] Stephen: because it clips down almost just around the main building,
[282.13] Stephen: so there's potentially a bit more room for exploring.
[285.13] Simon: There's definitely a lot more to do there, like Adam says.
[287.13] Simon: There's a lot more there than what's actually shown in the video.
[291.13] Simon: Even from the big area where you can see it's quite a large base,
[294.13] Simon: there's still more that you can go in and discover.
[298.13] Go Nut FPV: So on the back end of that shot there, you see the tree line.
[302.13] Go Nut FPV: Through that tree line is another area of a similar size
[305.13] Go Nut FPV: that's all...

[313.13] Go Nut FPV: That's a railway, isn't it?
[315.13] Go Nut FPV: No, that's a railway, but we've cleared that with the BMFA
[318.13] Go Nut FPV: and they're all happy with it.
[321.13] Go Nut FPV: That tree line is another area of a similar size
[323.13] Go Nut FPV: that's all small huts and there's a wooden castle in there
[326.13] Go Nut FPV: and there's a couple of two-story buildings.
[328.13] Go Nut FPV: And then further beyond that, we've got what they call the Gulag,
[331.13] Go Nut FPV: so if anyone's familiar with Call of Duty,
[333.13] Go Nut FPV: you go 1v1 in the Gulag in the winner respawns.
[337.13] Go Nut FPV: But the Gulag we're planning to use is like a whoop area,
[341.13] Go Nut FPV: like 1S whoops, like tiny whoops, because it's all fenced off.
[345.13] Go Nut FPV: So we should be able to get 25 milliwatts up there
[348.13] Go Nut FPV: as another video channel as long as the five main flight lines
[352.13] Go Nut FPV: in the main area.
[354.13] Go Nut FPV: So yeah, that should be pretty good.
[357.13] Stephen: Okay, so you're going to have the typical kind of six flight lines
[362.13] Stephen: you had last time and then you're going to have...
[364.13] Stephen: We had five last time.
[366.13] Go Nut FPV: So we had three channels, one, three, five, seven and two.
[371.13] Go Nut FPV: And then we'll use another channel up the top in the whoop area
[374.13] Go Nut FPV: and then we're going to have someone up there
[376.13] Go Nut FPV: keeping an eye on people that want to go fly whoops and stuff.
[379.13] Go Nut FPV: It's that far away.
[380.13] Simon: There shouldn't be any interference on that sort of side.
[383.13] Simon: We're going to be zoning off certain areas anyway
[385.13] Simon: so people know where to keep into on their flight areas.
[389.13] Simon: But we decided to do something with the whoops this year.
[393.13] Simon: We did some...
[396.13] Simon: Last year we did a little part with just the whoops
[399.13] Simon: and it was a finite amount of time
[401.13] Simon: and there was just so much people really enjoying that.
[403.13] Simon: It was something we thought we definitely got to bring to the table this year
[407.13] Simon: and do something that happens all weekend.
[409.13] Stephen: I think a lot of people weren't exactly sure what was going on with the whoops
[413.13] Stephen: because it was kind of hidden exactly the other side from the tents last time.
[417.13] Stephen: So good to highlight that in advance this time.
[420.13] Go Nut FPV: For us last year was unorganized chaos.
[423.13] Go Nut FPV: All the organizers were rushing off their feet all day.
[427.13] Go Nut FPV: No one really knew what was going on.
[428.13] Go Nut FPV: But when you chat to some of the punters,
[430.13] Go Nut FPV: they all seem to feel like it was under control when it really wasn't.
[433.13] Go Nut FPV: So this year we've been planning since...
[438.13] Go Nut FPV: January.
[439.13] Go Nut FPV: January, yeah.
[440.13] Go Nut FPV: January we've been planning
[441.13] Go Nut FPV: and we have a meeting every week on a Wednesday.
[444.13] Go Nut FPV: It normally lasts like three hours
[446.13] Go Nut FPV: and we just go over things.
[447.13] Go Nut FPV: What needs to be done?
[448.13] Go Nut FPV: Who's doing what job?
[449.13] Go Nut FPV: Stuff like that.
[450.13] Go Nut FPV: So we're much, much more organized this year.
[452.13] Go Nut FPV: Yeah.
[453.13] Go Nut FPV: Yeah.
[454.13] Simon: And a bigger team as well.
[455.13] Simon: We've got some people that helped us out last year
[457.13] Simon: that have joined on to the organizers as well.
[460.13] Simon: So the team has grown.
[461.13] Simon: We've got a lot more people that's got their own niche
[464.13] Simon: or their own skill set that's just going to help us.
[467.13] Simon: We'll just be absolutely awesome.
[469.13] Curry: That's wonderful.
[470.13] Curry: And so for people setting up,
[473.13] Curry: sort of how many flights would they expect to get typically on a day?
[477.13] Curry: And are you basically doing like a time session?
[479.13] Curry: It's like, okay, you guys go for five minutes
[481.13] Curry: and we'll have the next group on.
[483.13] Go Nut FPV: So you'll come in.
[486.13] Go Nut FPV: So you come into the drone festival with your fail-safe checks,
[489.13] Go Nut FPV: we'll do competency checks to make sure everyone can fly.
[491.13] Go Nut FPV: We'll make sure everyone's got the correct video settings on their drones.
[494.13] Go Nut FPV: And then you'll walk down to the flight lines
[496.13] Go Nut FPV: and you can pick a tent, which is...
[498.13] Go Nut FPV: they're numbered on video channels.
[500.13] Go Nut FPV: So you can pick one of the five tents
[502.13] Go Nut FPV: and you can go up and down to the other one
[504.13] Go Nut FPV: where the groups are as you please.
[507.13] Go Nut FPV: And then basically it's fly your battery when you're done,
[510.13] Go Nut FPV: next person flies.
[511.13] Go Nut FPV: And you worked out roughly, you should get two to three packs an hour.
[515.13] Go Nut FPV: Wow.
[516.13] Go Nut FPV: So we've got six flight lines and then ten pilots in each thing.
[521.11] Go Nut FPV: An average battery lasts three minutes.
[524.11] Go Nut FPV: So two packs an hour, you know, if someone crashes
[527.11] Go Nut FPV: or they don't want to fly or they're just hanging out,
[530.11] Go Nut FPV: you can get another one in, whatever.
[532.11] Go Nut FPV: Because I did see that quite a lot last year.
[534.11] Go Nut FPV: A lot of people were just chilling in the tents
[536.11] Go Nut FPV: and having a chat and socializing.
[538.11] Go Nut FPV: A lot of people weren't really fast on flying.
[540.11] Go Nut FPV: But I think this year will be different
[542.11] Go Nut FPV: because I think the Clipstone site, as epic as it was,
[545.11] Go Nut FPV: I think that once you've flown it a couple of times,
[550.11] Go Nut FPV: you've done everything.
[552.11] Go Nut FPV: Whereas this place, you've got gaps on gaps.
[555.11] Go Nut FPV: Yeah.
[556.11] Simon: We've been back there three times now.
[559.11] Simon: We're going back for our fourth time
[561.11] Simon: and then it's a couple of weeks to get some more footage.
[563.11] Simon: Every time you go there, you just find something new.
[567.11] Simon: You fly a different area, you put yourself in a different place,
[570.11] Simon: it just becomes a whole new place to fly.
[572.11] Simon: It's absolutely brilliant.
[574.11] Simon: If we're going back there on day four
[576.11] Simon: and still finding new stuff for people doing free days,
[579.11] Simon: we're sort of hitting pack, pack, pack, pack
[581.11] Simon: to try and get a lot of video footage.
[583.11] Simon: There's definitely more than enough for people
[585.11] Simon: that are going to go there on a free day.
[587.11] Simon: Yeah.
[588.11] Stephen: For people who are worried, I think last year,
[590.11] Stephen: I turned up, I was quite enthusiastic
[592.11] Stephen: and people weren't going crazy for it.
[595.11] Stephen: So I think I flew like eight packs back to back
[598.11] Stephen: because there was just gaps in the flight line.
[601.11] Stephen: Yeah.
[602.11] Stephen: And then I was just like, wow, I'm like burned out now.
[605.11] Stephen: I mean, just walk around in circles
[606.11] Stephen: and chat to people for a while.
[608.11] Stephen: Yeah.
[609.11] Stephen: There's definitely the ability to just go crazy and fly lots.
[612.11] Go Nut FPV: That's a big part of the festival as well.
[614.11] Go Nut FPV: You know, like I didn't fly a single pack last year,
[617.11] Go Nut FPV: but some of the best times I've had flying
[620.11] Go Nut FPV: were at that festival, just chatting to people.
[622.11] Go Nut FPV: And then at the nighttime, we'd all sit around
[624.11] Go Nut FPV: and everyone would get together and have a drink
[625.11] Go Nut FPV: and have pizza or something.
[627.11] Go Nut FPV: Yeah.
[628.11] Go Nut FPV: And yeah, it was really good.
[629.11] Simon: Because ultimately, as Adam says, it's a festival.
[633.11] Simon: We're there to celebrate the FBV community itself
[636.11] Simon: and that involves all the pilots,
[638.11] Simon: the people that are involved in that.
[640.11] Simon: Yes, we've got the flight lines up
[642.11] Simon: and people are going to fly,
[643.11] Simon: but it's about bringing everybody together,
[646.11] Simon: as a community, being able to talk to each other,
[648.11] Simon: share our stories, share our tips,
[651.11] Simon: look, compare drones, et cetera, et cetera.
[654.11] Simon: And like what happened last year,
[656.11] Simon: there was a lot of people, I'm pretty sure,
[658.11] Simon: that walked away with new friends and new FBV buddies
[660.11] Simon: that they all still meet up now
[662.11] Simon: and go and fly all around the country.
[664.11] Simon: So we've had a few messages as well through our socials
[672.11] Simon: and you get people there,
[673.11] Simon: and I'm not too sure because I fly on my own.
[676.11] Simon: I'm not too sure about coming there,
[678.11] Simon: but really, people like that do come
[680.11] Simon: because you won't be flying on your own,
[682.11] Simon: but you'll be flying with 60 other people.
[684.11] Simon: You'll be sharing a tent with 10 other people
[686.11] Simon: that are more than happy to talk to you
[688.11] Simon: and bring you into their own little tent
[690.11] Simon: or their own community, et cetera.
[691.11] Simon: And from that, you will find people
[693.11] Simon: that you can go flying with around the UK
[695.11] Simon: and not just at the festival,
[697.11] Simon: but after the festival, you'll be able to meet up with people
[699.11] Simon: and you'll find new spots.
[702.11] Simon: We all know when we fly with other people,
[704.11] Simon: especially from myself when we fly with the guys,
[707.11] Simon: we all push each other to do better.
[710.11] Simon: If you're flying on your own,
[711.11] Simon: you probably get to a point where you start to plateau,
[714.11] Simon: but when you're out with a group of lads
[716.11] Simon: and everybody's coming up with little ideas,
[718.11] Simon: it's like, yeah, I'll have a go and then push yourself.
[720.11] Simon: And eventually, you start getting better on the sticks.
[724.11] Stephen: Yeah.
[725.11] Stephen: The site here, this is also something
[727.11] Stephen: that's used for airsoft normally,
[729.11] Stephen: there's a fair bit more infrastructure, it looks like.
[731.11] Stephen: There's going to be places to sit down,
[733.11] Stephen: grab a cup of coffee, have a beer after hours,
[736.11] Stephen: and a bit more welcoming for the campus, we hope, as well.
[739.11] Go Nut FPV: Yeah, so as you first come into the site,
[742.11] Go Nut FPV: there's a big area where all the airsofters
[744.11] Go Nut FPV: leave their gear and get ready and stuff like that.
[747.11] Go Nut FPV: So we're taking that over.
[748.11] Go Nut FPV: There's probably 15, 20 picnic benches.
[751.11] Go Nut FPV: And we're going to have a store there.
[755.11] Go Nut FPV: We're going to have a charging area.
[757.11] Go Nut FPV: We're going to have a place where one of the teams
[759.11] Go Nut FPV: can help people out that aren't confidently repairing drones,
[762.11] Go Nut FPV: repair their drones.
[763.11] Go Nut FPV: And then you've got all the seating there
[765.11] Go Nut FPV: where everyone can just chill out and do their own stuff.
[767.11] Go Nut FPV: So say they want to charge the batteries up and chill
[769.11] Go Nut FPV: or repair a quad and they need a table,
[771.11] Go Nut FPV: they can come up to the same zone.
[773.11] Go Nut FPV: That's good.
[774.11] Simon: There's also an onsite cafe as well,
[777.11] Simon: which is going to be open all weekend as well,
[779.11] Simon: so people can get all their grub.
[781.11] Stephen: Bit more infrastructure then.

[785.11] Simon: There's toilets in there.
[786.11] Simon: We're looking at getting some shower pods,
[788.11] Simon: which is like six showers on the back of a trailer.
[791.11] Simon: Yeah, but it's like a burger van,
[793.11] Go Nut FPV: but it's got like six individual showers.
[795.11] Go Nut FPV: I think you only had one shower at Clipsden, right?
[797.11] Stephen: Yes.
[798.11] Go Nut FPV: Yeah, and only two toilets.
[800.11] Go Nut FPV: It wasn't good.
[801.11] Go Nut FPV: We learned from that massively.
[803.11] Simon: Yeah, and in the social area as well,
[805.11] Simon: we're going to have a big TV put up.
[807.11] Simon: So we want to basically promote everybody bringing their footage to us.
[810.11] Simon: And if you've just done an epic pack,
[812.11] Simon: bring your footage along, we'll load it up
[814.11] Simon: and we'll put everything on there so people can see it as well.
[816.11] Simon: So we're aiming to get the TV to have this constantly strolling
[819.11] Simon: everybody's packs and showcasing all the footage that people capture there.
[825.11] Stephen: So you're going to be having a bit of a get together in the evenings then?
[828.11] Stephen: Yes, definitely.
[829.11] Stephen: Grabbing people's SD cards and seeing what's happened during the day.
[831.11] Stephen: Yeah, yeah.
[832.11] Go Nut FPV: So we've got two guys on the team,
[835.11] Go Nut FPV: they're videographers by trade,
[837.11] Go Nut FPV: and Gavin's going to be going around all day taking videos and stuff like that.
[841.11] Go Nut FPV: So we can have a post drone fest video,
[845.11] Go Nut FPV: and he's going to be just vlogging it.
[847.11] Go Nut FPV: And then we're going to have another guy there that's going to edit up
[850.11] Go Nut FPV: people's flights throughout the day.
[852.11] Go Nut FPV: So for some of the challenges, if you get one of the challenges down,
[855.11] Go Nut FPV: you just go up there, give him his SD card,
[857.11] Go Nut FPV: and then he'll edit that into a video.
[859.11] Go Nut FPV: And then in the evening, everyone gets around, watches the video,
[862.11] Go Nut FPV: and we vote on who did it best.
[864.11] Go Nut FPV: Awesome.
[865.11] Go Nut FPV: And then we have a first place and a second place for those competitions.
[868.11] Go Nut FPV: I know, and I hope you get a crash reel at the end as well for the day.
[871.11] Stephen: Oh, yeah.
[872.11] Simon: Oh, yeah.
[873.11] Simon: We want to see everyone's crash reel.
[875.11] Curry: So you've mentioned competitions and challenges and prizes.
[880.11] Curry: So can you reveal anything that you might ask people to do
[884.11] Curry: or try to do at this point?
[886.11] Go Nut FPV: Yeah.
[887.11] Go Nut FPV: I'll do a couple, and then you can do a couple of so if you like.
[889.11] Go Nut FPV: Yeah, sure.
[890.11] Go Nut FPV: So as a place called Warzone, we're kind of keeping with the sort of theme.
[895.11] Go Nut FPV: Throughout the day, we're going to be doing gem fan prop drops.
[901.11] Go Nut FPV: So we've got these little gem fan orange drawstring bags.
[904.11] Go Nut FPV: I'm sure you've seen them.
[905.11] Go Nut FPV: And we're going to be doing, like, one of the team will run out in the middle
[909.11] Go Nut FPV: of the field, throw the bag down, and then be like, prop drop,
[913.11] Go Nut FPV: and then someone's got to come and land on the bag,
[915.11] Go Nut FPV: and if the first one has to land on it, it wins the props.
[917.11] Go Nut FPV: So that's like one.
[919.11] Go Nut FPV: Then we've got, like, a few of us are going to have our own signature tricks,
[924.11] Go Nut FPV: like competitions.
[926.11] Go Nut FPV: And you'll win a prize for doing those.
[928.11] Go Nut FPV: And whoever does the cleanest obviously wins a better prize.
[932.11] Go Nut FPV: Yeah, we've got a ton, literally.
[934.11] Go Nut FPV: I can't even think of all of them.
[937.11] Simon: Yeah, but, like, there's one called Trick Streak,
[939.11] Simon: where we're going to sort of tie in a few streaks and tricks together.
[942.11] Simon: And if, you know, there will be, like, each trick will get slightly harder
[945.11] Simon: as we go along, and you've got to try and streak those in a row.
[947.11] Simon: And if you get those, the more you can get into those,
[949.11] Simon: the better you can get a prize for that as well.
[951.11] Simon: Yeah.
[953.11] Simon: We're also bringing back Goggle Run.
[955.11] Simon: Goggle Run 2.0 is a slight tweak to it at the same time as well.
[959.11] Simon: So that's going to be good, because that went down a storm last year.
[962.11] Simon: So we're really happy to bring that back.
[965.11] Jack: Are you making sure that you're not near a fence or anything?
[970.11] Jack: Yes.
[971.11] Jack: We're going to have plenty of people.
[973.11] Stephen: How many people run into a metal fence last year?

[991.11] Simon: We flew with him a couple of weekends ago as well.

[996.11] Simon: He still sees it in high spirits.
[998.11] Simon: Sounds a good laugh about that.

[1003.11] Simon: A lot of the stuff that we're going to be doing as well,

[1048.11] Simon: There is a couple of things that we will be doing just to stop it,
[1051.11] Simon: but that will be probably only probably two hours over the weekend

[1056.11] Simon: But the main thing is we just want to keep people up in the air,
[1059.11] Simon: try and get as much flights as possible.
[1062.11] Stephen: So last year failsafe was going to go above and beyond and he
[1066.11] Stephen: dragged a TV onto site and spent quite a large amount of time
[1071.11] Stephen: hooked up with far too many cables so people could see what
[1074.11] Stephen: walks now is all about.
[1076.11] Stephen: Are you going to be doing any kind of live broadcasting of people in
[1080.11] Stephen: the air so others can see what's happening there?

[1085.11] Go Nut FPV: And to do it properly, we need a broadcasting license and
[1090.11] Go Nut FPV: they're a faff to get basically.

[1279.36] Simon: making sure they're plugging in what they should be plugging in.
[1282.36] Simon: The general stuff that you should know when you're going out
[1284.36] Simon: flying and just to show that they can take off, do a couple of
[1287.36] Simon: maneuvers and land safely because at the end of the day,
[1291.36] Simon: there's other people around.
[1293.36] Curry: Land safely seems to be a bit of a stretch goal for a lot of FPV
