[13.0] Jack: Massive thank you to… [14.4] Jack: Carlos Campos! [16.2] Jack: Art Faulkner! [17.88] Stephen: Sam Dahmer. [19.68] Stephen: On with the show. [20.68] Stephen: Hello and welcome to Let's Drone Out. [56.44] Stephen: This is episode 412, and you are joined this week by everybody's favourite, Curry Kitten. [63.64] Stephen: Hello! [65.32] Stephen: And myself, Stephen. [67.2] Stephen: Jack is not able to be with us this week, but hello Jack, hope you're doing all right [70.68] Stephen: there. [71.68] Stephen: Catch you soon. [72.68] Curry: So, good news is Stephen has apparently been building stuff where you can talk about because [77.6] Curry: I haven't been doing anything because I've been away. [79.68] Stephen: Well, I've had a string of builds that I've intended to do, and then I went to Grayshire [85.16] Stephen: and smashed things. [86.52] Stephen: So now I've got an even longer string of builds, so with a little whistle wetting. [92.2] Stephen: So for a while I've wanted to try O3, and finally I created a little O3 quad. [100.4] Stephen: I got… [101.68] Curry: In my mind, you already had an O3 on something else. [104.2] Stephen: Oh, I've had an O3 for a long time. [106.36] Stephen: It's been sitting on my bench glaring at me, and because it's such a high value item, [109.96] Stephen: I've kind of been hoarding it, and I didn't know what to do. [113.52] Stephen: So I built this three and a half inch with these Avan props and nice looking motors that [121.08] Stephen: are actually incredibly cheap, and you see the O3 is kind of jammed in the middle there. [125.52] Stephen: It's kind of unusually placed right in the middle on top of the stack, and… [130.2] Curry: Oh, I can't even see a stack of this unfortunately. [132.96] Curry: It's black unfortunately. [133.96] Stephen: Yeah. [134.96] Stephen: Yeah, and that is in essence the problem, Wayne, that this is so much O3 and so little [142.76] Stephen: room for the stack. [143.76] Stephen: But the first time I took it out, it was just like Mr Wobble cupped up, and the O3 was touching [149.92] Stephen: the stack. [151.12] Stephen: And so installing the O3 is not like installing other video systems, because for reasons best [156.36] Stephen: known to DGI and they're, I think it's fair to say, contempt for their customer base. [161.32] Stephen: Instead of using M2 screws, they decided to use M1.6. [165.04] Stephen: Why? [167.08] Stephen: You might ask, this is a high value piece of equipment. [169.16] Stephen: You probably want it secured with a nice stout screw, at least an M2. [172.68] Stephen: Probably an M3, given these are £200 a pop here in the UK. [176.52] Stephen: But no, what we've got is M1.6. [178.76] Stephen: So it took quite a while to order the necessary screws to actually do it this way, because [185.52] Stephen: I'm running M1.6 from the bottom of the frame through the flight controller, which is an [190.64] Stephen: all-in-one, through a lot of rubber into the O3. [195.48] Stephen: And there wasn't enough screw, and it was clamped down tight onto the flight controller, [200.6] Stephen: which meant that the flight controller wasn't isolated, and it just got too much noise [205.32] Stephen: and did the whoo. [207.8] Stephen: And normally when you get a little whoo, it's pretty obvious, you've over-tuned it usually, [213.08] Stephen: or something is wobbling that shouldn't be wobbling, but it all looked firmly braced [216.28] Stephen: in place. [217.28] Stephen: And only on closer inspection did I notice that after putting the top plate on, I ended [220.72] Stephen: up crunching the O3 down onto the flight controller, and it was not happy about that. [226.52] Stephen: So eventually I ordered some even longer screws, which being M1.6 were absolute pain [233.44] Stephen: to find and took ages to arrive. [235.84] Stephen: And finally got it so it's flying sort of okay, but oh my word, the trials and tribulations [241.48] Stephen: are building your own. [242.48] Stephen: I see why people go blind in flies, I really do. [244.96] Stephen: I wanted quite exactly the way I like it, but I paid for it this time, I really did. [251.92] Stephen: Have you considered going like bigger frames so you could put the O3 behind the stack? [258.56] Stephen: That was my first inclination, I was going to put it on a five inch, and then I realized [263.08] Stephen: I fly my five inch probably, I mean, I flew a lot of packs in Croatia, but the number [269.2] Stephen: of separate times I go flying with a five inch each year are kind of in single digits. [276.88] Stephen: I could fly this near my house, sub 250 with a small enough battery, whereas I can't fly [284.44] Stephen: the five inch near my house. [285.84] Stephen: So the five inch... [286.84] Stephen: This is the problem of living in London town. [288.72] Stephen: I don't go out, yeah, pretty much. [292.44] Stephen: Flying the five inch is nice, you know, you get that, you can throw it over things, you [296.24] Stephen: can go pretty fast and they're easier to tune and software like Betaflight, which I participate [302.08] Stephen: pretty actively in, is set up with a five inch in mind. [306.32] Stephen: When you build something like this, you have to work hard because you don't get that performance [310.8] Stephen: as table stakes like you can build a bad five inch, put Betaflight on it and it's going [315.88] Stephen: to fly okay. [317.28] Stephen: You build a three and a half inch pretty well, and it might fly like trash out of the box [322.04] Stephen: and you really need to work like the pits are up 1.5 and 1.6 on those sliders, that's [327.96] Stephen: abnormally high pits because it's a little bit of a chunker and it doesn't have enough [332.12] Stephen: power. [333.12] Stephen: But yeah, when I was away in Croatia, I replaced my VTXs actually, untangle this. [342.04] Stephen: So I've got my five and a half inch AOS frame. [344.72] Stephen: I didn't trash this one, but I did manage to do something funky to the gyro and stop [349.24] Stephen: behaving, but I swapped the cameras from DJI to WalkSnail while I was in Croatia. [355.24] Stephen: So I've got the WalkSnail Pro camera and I absolutely love flying these, they're absolutely [360.48] Stephen: beautiful image quality and I was flying around in the bright sunlight and then diving into [365.52] Stephen: a concrete bando and it was just wonderful. [368.68] Stephen: You get such good low light performance that you don't get that blackout and then surprise, [373.96] Stephen: it was handy. [374.96] Curry: The Pro camera does seem so far better, like miles better than the regular camera. [381.84] Curry: As soon as you put that in low light, you can see it sort of go grainy, but that Pro [387.12] Curry: camera is just like, it's like using a DSLR in comparison almost, very nice. [393.68] Stephen: To my mind, there's two brackets of kind of things worth buying, either the really cheap [398.24] Stephen: light stuff with that tiny board camera that's like a decased 14 mil camera or the Pro camera [406.56] Stephen: and the regular cameras in the middle, like you're not getting a light camera, but you're [410.16] Stephen: not getting a great image either, so no. [413.92] Curry: Yeah, outside in the sunlight, there's less to choose between them, isn't there? [421.75] Curry: If you've got a nice sunny day, then you'll get a nice experience. [424.91] Curry: But if you're not, which, you know, we're in England, so we always get nice sunny days [428.83] Curry: clearly. [429.83] Curry: Yeah, that's when you'll see the difference between them. [432.75] Stephen: Right. [433.75] Stephen: I always feel slightly cheated when you see those reviews and they come out and it's from, [438.03] Stephen: you know, like California or somewhere sunny in Asia and it's a beautiful day and they're [445.27] Stephen: cruising next to a lake and there's not a cloud in the sky and there's birds and bright [450.23] Stephen: green trees and like, yeah, it's not hard to make that look good. [454.15] Stephen: Like you can take any camera and point it at that, it's going to look pretty good. [459.11] Stephen: And then, you know, flying around in the UK, I put up a video trying to fly under some [462.91] Stephen: trees and the ground just turned into this big muddy kind of impressionist painting. [468.35] Stephen: I couldn't see what the heck was going on. [471.82] Stephen: Nice. [472.82] Curry: What have you been up to? [476.42] Curry: Nothing at all. [477.42] Curry: I've been in Japan having a holiday, so I've not done anything related to FPV in over two [484.78] Curry: weeks. [485.78] Curry: Gadgets, comics, video games, cool little robots. [490.74] Curry: I, it's literally been my day. [492.54] Curry: I have gone to capsule places, gone to crane grabbing things, bought lots of video games, [500.7] Curry: bought anime figures, eaten some really weird and gone around the country with my best broken [509.42] Curry: Japanese possible. [511.42] Curry: That's about it. [512.7] Curry: What cool food did you find? [516.28] Curry: I just find the Japanese diet is so sort of alien to anybody that's used to what we're [523.72] Curry: eating. [524.72] Curry: So even when we thought we knew what we would get in, like if you've ever been to a Japanese [529.72] Curry: restaurant, yakitori sticks is something that comes out, which is basically chicken on the [533.72] Curry: stick, really nice chicken, often in a sort of barbecue soy sauce goes down very nicely. [540.24] Curry: First night in Tokyo after going around to many places and them saying, do you have a [544.92] Curry: reservation? [545.92] Curry: And I was like, no, there's like a thousand restaurants. [548.44] Curry: How do we all need a reservation to all of them? [551.12] Curry: And then when we found the restaurant, we couldn't find it because it's either on the [555.92] Curry: sick floor or on the basement level. [557.92] Curry: Yeah, I found that one. [559.92] Curry: Yeah, the one we eventually hunted down was down the subway and off to the side and it's [564.88] Curry: this really busy restaurant and it was yakitori and we thought, brilliant. [568.52] Curry: And then it's like, oh, this is not yakitori I think about because they don't seem to like [574.92] Curry: lean chicken. [575.84] Curry: It's either like weird bits or it's chicken skin. [580.96] Curry: That was that was like a whole thing. [582.36] Curry: It's like, OK, let's try this choo, choo, choo, choo, choo. [585.52] Curry: It's not going down and that sort of thing. [588.72] Curry: Or like the lean things were covered in wasabi, which really upset my wife. [593.88] Curry: Or it's like chicken, chicken gristle, chicken neck, chicken, weird things. [601.68] Curry: And it's like if you have beef, they often have the the beef ligament or beef tender. [608.2] Curry: Right. [608.68] Curry: So what's wrong with that? [610.32] Stephen: That's what you give to your dog, isn't it? [611.64] Stephen: That's what my dog has. [612.6] Curry: That's what I call the off cut. [615.44] Curry: So so, yeah, it was all a bit weird. [618.4] Stephen: But I noticed in China, they're very fond of like mochi, which is kind of like gelatinous, [624.44] Stephen: but not sweet gelatinous, like fatty bits of or exceptionally gelatinous [630.84] Stephen: kind of liquid filled savory things that I think to a Western palette, [636.88] Stephen: feel a little bit kind of like a nasty surprise sometimes. [641.24] Stephen: You expect it to be biteable and it bounces instead of bites. [645.32] Curry: When you get a bit that looks like a lean bit of beef and you then you bite it, [649.04] Curry: it's like, oh, this this tastes funny because it's so so fatty. [652.76] Curry: They love their fatty bits. [654.72] Curry: I saw literally the beef and you can see the beef and it was surrounded [660.04] Curry: by this whole fat line all the way through. [662.32] Curry: And it's like, yeah, it's just very different, very different standards, [668.28] Curry: as we would call it, a bit ooky in many cases. [671.04] Stephen: But, you know, they survived. [672.68] Stephen: I remember when I spent some time out in Hong Kong working at a bank there [678.0] Stephen: and one of the guys like completely going crazy on chicken feet over lunch. [682.96] Stephen: And they were just I thought they'd be scrawny, but they kind of like cook them. [686.76] Stephen: So they absorb loads of liquid. [688.72] Stephen: And they were really plump and just that had that kind of bouncy texture. [692.96] Stephen: I think I tried a tiny bit. [694.08] Stephen: I was like, no, no, no, no. [695.96] Stephen: He was just shoveling these things where it fell asleep, [698.48] Stephen: completely fell asleep after lunch. [700.16] Stephen: Like he was out for the count stuff full of chicken feet. [703.44] Curry: That is it. Every time I speak to somebody in Japan [707.96] Curry: has really good English and they say how you find the food. [710.64] Curry: And we say it's quite challenging. [712.24] Curry: And I describe all the things I found challenging. [714.36] Curry: They're always like, those are my favorites. [716.44] Curry: This is the yummy things just like many years to cook. [720.4] Stephen: Yeah. Yeah, exactly. [722.92] Stephen: I found it much easier going to India and Sri Lanka, [726.56] Stephen: although I did notice like when I was traveling with Americans, [729.32] Stephen: I was quite happy to have like fish for breakfast. [731.68] Stephen: And I thought that was that just kind of made sense to me, [734.28] Stephen: like as a nice breakfast, you know, I'd have a bit of fish and coconut milk [737.36] Stephen: or something like that. [738.72] Stephen: And but Americans found that really difficult. [741.36] Stephen: Like fish for breakfast was just a no no for them. [744.52] Stephen: I guess in the UK, we're used to maybe kippers or a bit of kachri [748.8] Stephen: or something like that. That's not too unusual. [752.48] Curry: Yeah, I mean, I don't I don't really fish much. [756.28] Curry: I don't mind the odd bit of sashimi. [758.0] Curry: I found the problems there were, you know, when you go to a restaurant, [761.64] Curry: you can have a little bit of this and a little bit of that over there. [764.76] Curry: It's like this, like this restaurant just sells yakitori. [768.44] Curry: This restaurant just does sushi. [770.6] Curry: So like you've walked through it or you've committed. [772.96] Curry: That's it. Yeah. [774.64] Curry: So if you like, I'll have some sushi, please. [776.44] Curry: Here's a plate full of this much tuna and all sorts of weird crap [780.44] Curry: you've never thought of before or someone else. [782.68] Curry: So, yeah, what I don't like is as weird as it sounds, [786.08] Curry: a very fishy tasting fish. [787.92] Curry: So like things like tuna and salmon are quite, quite mild. [792.68] Curry: You put them in a bit of soy sauce, it goes down very nicely. [795.0] Curry: Mackerel. And then you have mackerel, which we also [797.96] Curry: and the traditional Japanese meal is like, let's have a go at this. [801.04] Curry: Oh, God, that's so strong. [802.96] Curry: And then my wife's going in this, what's this, some sort of vegetables? [807.28] Curry: And it's like, no, they've got eyes. [809.32] Curry: They're looking back at us. [810.24] Curry: It was all these little white fish just looking after them. [814.16] Stephen: It's like that's not for us. [815.6] Stephen: So you can't go into a fish restaurant and the rest of the family has fish. [818.8] Stephen: And you're like, yeah, I'll just get some chicken. [820.4] Stephen: That's that's off the menu effectively. [822.6] Curry: Yeah, I don't know how vegetarians would cope [826.92] Curry: because I'm sure if if you're Japanese is very good [831.84] Curry: and then you can probably find somewhere through it. [834.48] Curry: But if not, you know, even if something looks like as a vegetable dish, [838.0] Curry: there's some fish in it somewhere. [839.72] Curry: It's tasting fishy. [840.92] Stephen: How did you find the language? [842.32] Stephen: Would you rely on Google Translate or do you start to get to grips with it? [846.92] Curry: I spent the last months. [850.4] Curry: I learned hiragana and katakana, which are the two bainitic alphabets. [855.24] Curry: I thought that might be useful. [856.88] Curry: And then literally we got there and all the signs are in kanji, which I hadn't done. [860.76] Curry: So I knew very basics. [864.6] Curry: You know, the sort of hello that the most complicated thing I did [868.24] Curry: is in Japanese, ask for no mustard or mayonnaise in a burger, [876.48] Curry: which somehow they understood, which I was quite impressed with. [880.12] Curry: And I also found that like, although everybody in the world [883.24] Curry: there's like arrogance for thank you, which is chorus everywhere. [888.04] Curry: If I just said something like segui or dasukidez about like talking about [894.32] Curry: their food, which means like awesome or I liked it and wet themselves. [898.76] Curry: Oh, wow. Like so pleased that I've said something to them and they understand [903.92] Stephen: it like two words in their language. [905.76] Stephen: You go outside that they're like, he's got it. [909.04] Stephen: Yes, that's it. [910.76] Curry: Yes. So that was fun. [912.44] Curry: Well, what's interesting, I guess, about Japan and in terms of FPV, [916.96] Curry: because we think it's a subject and I didn't find anything obvious in hobby shops [922.72] Curry: there when I went to Akihabara, which is like the big electronics district in Tokyo. [927.08] Curry: There was like big electronic shops that they had like drones there. [930.08] Curry: So DJI stuff. [931.64] Curry: But I think a lot of people don't realize is outside of the big big cities [937.0] Curry: like Tokyo and Osaka, which we went to in Kyoto, it is [942.44] Curry: a lot of countryside is very mountainous. [945.68] Curry: It takes like less than an hour and you're in the middle of the country. [949.08] Curry: And because there's so much of it is countryside and mountains, [953.6] Curry: it seems very easy if you wanted to fly there. [956.44] Curry: And where the communities in the real rural places have declined, [962.12] Curry: basically, because people aren't getting married and having families. [965.52] Curry: There are a lot of abandoned buildings to to mess about with. [969.6] Curry: If you're that way, you see anyone flying there. [972.04] Curry: No, nobody at all. [974.04] Curry: I thought I might run across somebody there, but yeah, [977.8] Stephen: because a nation that's so, you know, famous for its love of technology, [982.28] Stephen: you kind of expect there to be people. [984.44] Stephen: And I remember seeing when looking for videos of the most unusual of [989.08] Stephen: model RC contraptions, you know, ornithopters. [992.76] Stephen: There was always some Japanese guy who's like 65 [996.16] Stephen: and he's made hundreds of ornithopters and things like this. [999.32] Stephen: I kind of expect that to be a part of the culture more, I guess. [1003.84] Curry: I'm sure it's out of somewhere, but I feel the problem in the culture [1007.16] Curry: is it's very conformist. [1008.76] Curry: Nobody wants to sort of stand, stand out and be different [1013.08] Curry: to the point that like, you know, famously, everybody [1018.0] Curry: like the tube station works really a lot like the London Underground does. [1022.64] Curry: You know, you tap a little IC card and go through and you get on the train. [1026.36] Curry: It's very easy to navigate, [1028.2] Curry: except that everybody lines up carefully in queues. [1032.8] Curry: And it's it's so sort of polite and everything [1036.44] Curry: that nobody does anything to try and offend anybody. [1038.72] Curry: And I feel like somebody doing something a bit different like FPV [1042.4] Curry: would be seen as quite an outsider. [1044.64] Stephen: Yeah, I'm sure I'm absolutely sure that you'd have to like start whistling [1047.68] Stephen: or do something quite minor to be seen as a rebel [1049.92] Stephen: because everyone is that kind of in lockstep with each other socially speaking. [1054.64] Curry: Yes, literally, you would just, you know, [1057.56] Curry: uh, talk out loud. [1060.36] Curry: In like talking on the phone in a train is like outside of behavior. [1065.56] Curry: But because everybody's so polite, they won't say anything. [1068.12] Curry: Oh, they're just like money inwardly sort of like this is terrible way. [1072.44] Stephen: That's like sitting there ripping off farts. [1078.04] Curry: Yeah, it was. [1079.72] Curry: Yeah, it would it would be good to take a quad [1083.0] Curry: and just go find some places and have some fun. [1086.28] Stephen: But it's quite a long way to go. [1087.28] Stephen: So on the side, they're definitely known for and you mentioned this, [1090.72] Stephen: the kind of anime and that kind of geek culture, sci fi, [1096.36] Stephen: giant Mecca stuff, what was that like? [1099.76] Curry: Well, they've got they've got districts for it, like in Tokyo, [1102.88] Curry: you've got all these different sort of shopping districts [1106.04] Curry: with different things happening. [1106.92] Curry: It's like Ginza, where we say it is kind of a real high end, [1110.88] Curry: like, you know, Gucci and all these label stores and things. [1114.0] Curry: And you've got Shibuya, which you'll probably notice [1116.28] Curry: from that very famous Shibuya scramble, which is that big crossing [1119.76] Curry: that everybody always shows. [1120.68] Curry: It's a great big Starbucks. [1121.64] Curry: And there's all this Zebra going in diagonals. [1124.52] Curry: And yeah, the electronics and gaming and anime district in Tokyo [1128.48] Curry: is called Akiba, Akiba Hara, Akihabara, Akihabara. [1133.36] Curry: And then I found there's another one in Osaka called Denden Street, [1137.16] Curry: which is much the same. [1138.16] Stephen: So there are internet and online selling. [1142.76] Curry: Yeah, there are there are incredible amounts of the same sort of stores. [1149.2] Curry: So we went in. [1151.24] Curry: My wife loved this. [1152.08] Curry: We had a whole day there. [1152.88] Curry: And I was like, she says, which stores are we getting us? [1155.36] Curry: All of them. [1156.76] Curry: And so there's literally stores and stores just showing selling [1161.52] Curry: anime figures and going next to a suitcase with you. [1165.96] Curry: I did bring quite a few bits back. [1167.92] Curry: Yeah, but she bought like a Gucci handbag, so she she won in value. [1172.12] Stephen: And she gets one handbag and you get a sorted hundreds of toys and things [1176.96] Stephen: as many as you can cram it. [1178.48] Curry: I mean, we got a lot of actual things because it was quite fun [1181.72] Curry: to play little crane things and try and win stuff. [1184.04] Curry: But I only bought three, three small consoles and like [1188.96] Curry: three games and one anime figure, but it wasn't too bad. [1192.76] Curry: Restrained, very restrained. [1194.48] Curry: I thought so. And at nighttime in these places, the maids come out. [1198.68] Curry: You must have heard of the maid cafes. [1201.4] Stephen: Well, I saw it in Hong Kong, but there I think it's a really like [1205.36] Stephen: kind of almost unpleasant divide between the rich and the poor [1208.92] Stephen: because the maids are like brought in from other parts of Asia [1212.32] Stephen: and they're never like Hong Kong residents. [1214.36] Stephen: So it's like almost indentured labor and they can't afford to eat anywhere. [1219.76] Stephen: So they like sit in green spaces, spaces and kind of embroider things [1224.28] Stephen: and make patchwork and it's it's kind of these ones literally dress up as maids. [1229.48] Curry: And we went we walked along at nighttime. [1232.44] Curry: And I think I literally I filmed it, you know, very, very, very subtly [1237.24] Curry: just walking along going like this as like over 100 girls [1242.08] Curry: stood along the side of the road or dress as as as maids of some description. [1247.0] Curry: So dressed as maids, they weren't actual maids. [1249.32] Curry: This was very much. [1250.48] Curry: No, it's very much a I find it. [1253.48] Curry: I found it a little bit creepy. [1255.88] Curry: One of those. All the efforts they said to say this isn't sexual. [1258.96] Curry: I was like, yeah, right. [1261.08] Curry: There's something like 40, 50 year olds tumping men. [1264.6] Curry: And so come into our cafe will serve you. Yeah. Yeah. [1268.68] Stephen: Yeah. I've I've I've blocked people online for much less. [1274.32] Stephen: Yes. Yeah. Yeah. [1277.6] Stephen: I'm interested in this. And no, no, it's not sexual. [1280.28] Stephen: This character is, you know, [1282.24] Stephen: in terms of the narrative is 3000 years old [1285.88] Stephen: and just happens to look like a small schoolgirl. [1288.4] Curry: No, that's there were there were shops [1291.36] Curry: just selling wire from from again, from a geeky electronics point of view. [1296.04] Curry: It's like, what gay do I would you like? [1297.88] Curry: What color would you like it in? [1299.24] Curry: This man's got reels everywhere. [1300.64] Curry: He'll get you wire. [1301.84] Curry: There were at least four wire shops. [1304.28] Curry: It was very good. [1305.12] Stephen: We like the wire shops as well. [1307.12] Stephen: So basically, small businesses in in Japan do absolutely great. [1311.96] Stephen: And it sounds like they just managed to survive [1314.72] Stephen: and haven't been plowed under by Amazon and eBay and people like that. [1319.52] Curry: It must be there are, you know, they're obviously [1323.92] Curry: it's quite touristy as well. [1325.24] Curry: So when you go into like the retro game stores, it's like, oh, God, [1328.68] Curry: it's like there's 20 copies of me here. That's no fun. [1332.96] Curry: But they're also like lots of Japanese people. [1335.28] Curry: And bizarrely, despite them being very high tech, [1339.8] Curry: definitely the most popular thing there is Pachinko. [1342.68] Curry: We went through so many Pachinko parlors and every single one is full. [1346.8] Curry: They've got cues outside. [1348.08] Curry: And Pachinko, for those don't know, is literally a game [1352.6] Curry: somewhere in between pinball and watching just balls fall down randomly. [1357.16] Curry: Apparently, there is some skill to it if if you get them right. [1361.0] Curry: And it's this really weird thing. [1362.4] Curry: So Pachinko is like a gambling game. [1364.76] Curry: You have to win things. [1366.2] Curry: If you get more balls coming out than going in, you've won. [1369.56] Curry: But it's illegal to gamble. [1371.64] Curry: So what happens is you take you take your balls and you exchange them for a ticket [1376.52] Curry: and then you go around the corner where there's another store [1379.16] Curry: where the ticket will exchange for money. [1381.12] Stephen: And that's to do something that looks like gambling. [1384.48] Stephen: But you can persuade the lawman is absolutely [1388.0] Stephen: entirely unrelated to the act of gambling. [1391.36] Stephen: Apparently. [1394.28] Stephen: Wonderful, wonderful. [1395.4] Stephen: It's like the national lottery being such a beautiful, [1397.76] Stephen: you know, uplifting experience for everyone involved. [1401.44] Stephen: Totally not gambling. [1402.56] Stephen: Definitely not gambling, not at all. [1407.08] Stephen: Wonderful. Oh, I was going to say back to the topic of drones. [1410.36] Stephen: I've been buying a load of frames. [1413.8] Stephen: I when I was in Croatia and crashing things, I knew I needed to order spares. [1417.56] Stephen: So I went to CNC Madness and I ordered this funny little thing [1421.76] Stephen: that is from Quad 66, who's been making these unusual toothpick frames. [1428.28] Stephen: And I decided that I make use of it. [1432.12] Stephen: I started to install a new Sky Stars board on there with these [1437.32] Stephen: Sunny Sky 1106 that are quite beefy. [1440.44] Stephen: And I think it's like a four mil thick toothpick frame. [1442.88] Stephen: So it's going to be kind of a fast little ripper. [1445.92] Stephen: I'm going to put one of the one S boards on there from Walk Snail. [1451.08] Stephen: See how that goes. [1452.0] Stephen: And I've got a whole bunch of other things there as well, [1455.72] Stephen: including a four inch frame that I'm going to try building out. [1459.36] Stephen: I'm quite committed to Walk Snail at this point is the short story. [1463.68] Stephen: Yeah, they seem to do just as well as DJI, if not slightly better. [1467.48] Stephen: So I'm impressed. [1470.56] Stephen: They're definitely not perfect. [1471.76] Stephen: And the OSD does flicker sometimes, which I don't really have this 25 megabit [1477.0] Stephen: and not 50, but I don't know why I did notice the flicker. [1479.96] Curry: I was just assuming that it like occasionally misses [1485.4] Curry: like one of the one of the OSD packets or something. [1488.56] Curry: So instead of just like, we'll just hold that information there. [1491.68] Curry: It just goes away. [1493.08] Curry: Yeah. And then comes back again. [1494.68] Stephen: I think you're right. [1497.12] Stephen: And it happens with quite alarming regularity, but the picture is good. [1502.36] Stephen: I seem to get better fine detail than I did with DJI, which is nice. [1506.68] Stephen: And those one S boards are so incredibly light. [1509.96] Stephen: I've been flying this one again and again. [1513.2] Stephen: And just because it's a two and a half inch and it's got an HD digital system. [1518.52] Stephen: And that's just perfect for flying. [1522.04] Stephen: And, you know, it's open props. [1523.72] Stephen: I'm not stuck with a whoop thing weighs kind of, I think like just under [1529.12] Stephen: 80 grams, which is the three S 450 on there flies an absolute dream. [1534.72] Stephen: It's it's a lovely little thing. [1537.04] Stephen: So, yeah, they really won me over just having a decent one S solution. [1541.08] Stephen: And without the sparkles that I was getting on HD zero, you know, just [1545.76] Stephen: I might not be getting the most rock solid latency. [1548.6] Stephen: But the image is crystal clear. [1552.3] Curry: Yes, I've still got to do my the wing. [1556.1] Curry: The wing move to my other walks now. [1560.66] Curry: You take a second. [1562.06] Frank: This episode was recorded in front of a live online audience, [1565.18] Frank: downloaded and edited to make sense when it played audio only sensors [1569.3] Frank: to please the iTunes people hosted on the Internet, forwarded through [1572.22] Frank: to your podcast provider, downloaded, playing on your device and is now [1575.94] Frank: playing in your ears, all thanks to our patrons. [1579.34] Frank: Consider joining them and you'll also get other online benefits. [1582.7] Frank: Find out more at patreon.com. [1585.02] Frank: Pause slash. Let's drone out. [1588.51] Stephen: Speaking of walks now, I took this guy, the three and a half inch props [1592.67] Stephen: and I did my BMFA FPV racing a cert. [1598.31] Curry: So I was I was watching the chatter. [1601.23] Curry: I was out of the country. [1602.23] Curry: And my question is. Why? [1606.43] Curry: What? Obviously, you did it for a reason that it gets you something that you [1610.63] Stephen: you wanted. Well, I kind of been hating on the BMFA [1616.83] Stephen: because I didn't really understand what they were doing. [1619.39] Stephen: And I thought instead of just being. [1622.59] Stephen: A dick about it, I should probably actually try it out. [1627.47] Stephen: And, you know, see what it's all about. [1629.27] Stephen: And reached out to someone and they were enormously helpful and really nice. [1633.55] Stephen: And in fact, you suggested that I buy the right membership. [1636.95] Stephen: And I went and bought the wrong one and paid for an extra six months [1641.11] Stephen: when I didn't need to, which made me feel like a complete dimwit. [1644.67] Stephen: But yeah, that just very nice. [1647.95] Stephen: And so I thought I should, you know, put my money where my mouth is [1653.67] Stephen: and well, get the membership and do the certificate. [1657.23] Stephen: So I. Turned up at a model helicopter club [1662.19] Stephen: who seems to have slightly diminished members these days and. [1667.75] Stephen: And did the test, which is mainly theory, [1671.71] Stephen: not as much flying as I was. [1673.11] Stephen: I was worried about the flying part, [1674.95] Stephen: but actually most of it is memorizing the safety procedures, [1677.79] Stephen: which are all publicly available. [1679.87] Stephen: I was able to search and Google and find a PDF with all the details. [1683.51] Stephen: And so I just committed these to memory. [1686.15] Stephen: Which is, you know, like a couple of paragraphs from the BMFA handbook [1691.35] Stephen: and some other notes, like a sweet. [1695.87] Stephen: Mnemonic that they have, like it's sun, wind, [1700.75] Stephen: emergencies, environment, transmitter or something like that. [1705.39] Stephen: And you just got to kind of reel off these things [1707.95] Stephen: and you find out a bit about the model flying club you're flying at. [1711.07] Stephen: You memorize the heights that you can fly to in the area [1714.31] Stephen: and you reel off those details and then get into the actual flying. [1717.47] Stephen: So I think now I should preface that by saying [1721.31] Stephen: I find it very easy to memorize things because my job is largely memorizing [1725.07] Stephen: obscure electronics and programming facts, which which I'm quite good at. [1729.79] Stephen: But that would probably I think. [1732.99] Stephen: That's the toughest bit of it. [1735.99] Stephen: If you can do that, then I think you really don't need to worry [1739.19] Stephen: a lot about the flying, because if you're [1741.43] Stephen: if you've been flying quads for more than a couple of years, [1743.87] Stephen: I think you you probably have it covered. [1746.67] Stephen: And I've got one of the trial runs that I did. [1749.83] Stephen: I should hasten to add, not not the final run, because I've been warned [1753.47] Stephen: that if I were to show that, then the Internet and their mom would [1757.87] Stephen: would come and start complaining about it and pointing out things they did wrong. [1761.27] Stephen: So this is a trial run that I did. [1765.43] Stephen: OK, so that's just this. [1768.31] Stephen: This is the type of maneuvers what you would have to do. [1772.23] Stephen: And this is done on walksnail. [1773.83] Stephen: So that's my DVR going to take off. [1775.91] Stephen: You've got to go through a gate and when you've gone through a gate, [1779.67] Stephen: then the examiner will tell you what to do next. [1781.91] Stephen: After that, it was to fly through a slalom. [1784.59] Stephen: Slalom gates are five meters apart approximately. [1788.07] Stephen: You have to fly through them smoothly. [1789.75] Stephen: La dee da dee da turn around. [1791.51] Stephen: The turning around bit was optional. [1793.23] Stephen: But anyway, then after that, you have to fly through a gate and through another. [1797.67] Stephen: Between each of these, I'm pausing because the examiner is actually telling me [1800.87] Stephen: what I have to do. So I'm lining up now to fly through the gate and go through. [1805.23] Stephen: Yeah, this is just the trial run. [1807.83] Stephen: So through the second gate, there we are. [1809.39] Stephen: Two gates in a row. [1810.47] Stephen: This boy is clearly a winner. [1812.15] Stephen: His natural skill is evident for all to see. [1815.91] Stephen: And then after this, we have to do through an obstacle over another obstacle [1820.63] Stephen: and under another. [1821.67] Stephen: So we do three gates in a row under the first, over the second, under the third. [1827.03] Stephen: Then we hang around and wait for the examiner to tell us what to do. [1829.63] Stephen: He wants us to do a little turn and go back through something. [1832.63] Stephen: So we turn and go back through something. [1834.43] Stephen: If you're feeling fancy, you can do a split s. [1836.75] Stephen: I was hoping that I wouldn't bounce off the ground. [1840.35] Stephen: And so I chose not to do a split s. [1842.15] Stephen: I just did a little snappy yaw turn [1844.67] Stephen: and you have to do the turn and amount of space and then land [1847.07] Stephen: without rolling more than half a meter. [1849.47] Stephen: That is a crucial part of it. [1851.03] Stephen: So that is that. [1852.55] Stephen: That's pretty much it. [1853.95] Stephen: Apart from parroting a lot of rules and regulations, which you must do correctly. [1858.15] Stephen: And, you know, don't fly with metal props. [1862.15] Stephen: That curious BMFA rule of you shall not drop things from your aircraft, [1867.91] Stephen: which might cause damage to persons or property. [1871.43] Stephen: I mean, interpret that as you will. [1873.11] Stephen: But this type of question, you know, you've got to you've got to memorize those [1876.51] Stephen: because you are going to be given five fixed questions [1879.43] Stephen: and then a couple of them at the examiner's discretion. [1882.39] Stephen: They can pick from anything in the BMFA handbook. [1885.15] Stephen: So, yeah, fairly straightforward. [1888.83] Stephen: I'd encourage people to give it a go. [1890.75] Stephen: I a couple of years ago would have thought myself completely incapable of this [1894.55] Stephen: and I just chanced it and I was fully expecting to fail. [1896.99] Stephen: But it looks like I'm just waiting for the admin to go through at this point. [1904.75] Curry: You know, a certificate. [1905.99] Curry: So so previously the BMFA, when they were talking about quads, [1910.59] Curry: wanted you to do everything line of sight still. [1913.71] Curry: So clearly you could buy it as well. [1918.43] Stephen: That is the clincher. [1919.47] Stephen: That's why I decided to do it because they finally announced an FPV set. [1923.55] Stephen: And I thought, well, because I'd been giving them grief about, you know, [1927.31] Stephen: it's only line of sight. [1928.23] Stephen: What good is that? [1928.91] Stephen: I'm never going to want to fly line of sight for more than, you know, [1932.03] Stephen: maybe I'll do a test hover to make sure everything works. [1934.35] Stephen: And that's about it, you know. [1936.75] Curry: So that gets you the ability to fly at any BMFA. [1942.91] Stephen: I honestly don't know what that gets me. [1945.63] Stephen: I was mainly doing it just to try and show willing to be perfectly honest [1949.83] Stephen: and to try it out and to see whether I could get one of these. [1952.03] Stephen: I don't know the the use. [1954.19] Stephen: I guess it would certainly allow me to compete at race events. [1959.31] Stephen: If if they are organized by the BMFA, I don't know what the requirements are. [1964.55] Stephen: Oh, I should point out that you have to show that fail safe is working as well. [1968.91] Stephen: There's that saying pretty much every event you go to, [1970.83] Stephen: you need to prove that fail safe is working. [1973.19] Stephen: This is true. [1974.67] Curry: Yeah, interesting. [1978.11] Curry: So how how much is a BMFA membership these days? [1984.43] Curry: Because obviously it's the it is BMFA membership, [1989.03] Curry: but essentially you join a club, don't you? [1990.79] Curry: Or you have some sort of. [1992.43] Stephen: I haven't joined the club, no. [1993.71] Stephen: So normally you do it as part of a club membership, [1996.07] Stephen: but I haven't crucially not joined a club. [1998.59] Stephen: I was already a member of FPV UK and I initially said, look, [2002.59] Stephen: I've I've got insurance because the guy said, oh, you have insurance, [2005.51] Stephen: of course, because you're a BMFA member. [2006.87] Stephen: I was like, no, I've got insurance, though. [2008.87] Stephen: And I said, no, you need to be a BMFA member to be a BMFA. [2012.19] Stephen: So so I went ahead and did that. [2014.43] Stephen: But I should have bought the. [2018.99] Stephen: The British drone something, something [2023.55] Stephen: which means you just if you buy the British drone membership, [2029.31] Stephen: it starts from the point when you buy it [2031.71] Stephen: and it runs 12 months from that point. [2035.31] Stephen: Whereas the BMFA membership for reasons [2037.55] Stephen: lost in arcane history is per calendar year. [2041.27] Stephen: And therefore I bought half a year's membership for the cost of a whole year. [2045.87] Stephen: It costs 42 quid. [2048.03] Stephen: So it's not that much. [2049.07] Stephen: Forty two quid for BMFA membership. [2051.07] Stephen: That's if you're a senior, which is anyone that isn't a teenager or over, I think. [2057.57] Curry: Nice. [2059.61] Curry: I guess it'd be interested to know what you can do with it. [2063.97] Curry: And I suppose one of the questions would have been, [2067.61] Curry: presumably, if you're flying a club, you need a spotter still, do you? [2071.85] Stephen: Or is it or is it primarily for racing? [2074.25] Stephen: Yes, I mean, that's the other thing. [2075.81] Stephen: I did need a competent observer. [2077.85] Stephen: So because I was not racing in a sterile environment, you know, [2083.21] Stephen: whatever they call it, a race thing, I needed a competent observer. [2088.65] Stephen: Right. Yeah. OK. [2092.41] Stephen: Was that the examiner in that case? [2094.57] Stephen: That that was my wife in this case, who came along and was competently [2099.49] Stephen: observing me and shouting if anyone was to turn up. [2106.94] Stephen: Seeing if I can find out details of what the point is here. [2111.74] Stephen: Basic standard of safety and flying competence. [2115.22] Stephen: There you are. [2117.98] Stephen: So I'm not sure what it gets you beyond the basic standard of safety [2121.62] Stephen: and flying competence. [2125.06] Stephen: The basic proficiency certificates provide a measure of competence [2127.9] Stephen: for pilots operating fixed and rotary wing aircraft fitted [2131.02] Stephen: with stabilization technologies. [2133.1] Stephen: An FPV extension is also available to holders of any basic proficiency [2136.82] Stephen: or a certificate. That's clearly out of date. [2139.7] Stephen: So, yeah, unsurprisingly, because there's not an FPV extension. [2143.58] Stephen: I just did the FPV racing asert because people don't do line of sight [2147.7] Stephen: multi-roader racing for reasons that will become immediately [2151.26] Stephen: apparent to anyone that see multi-roader racing. [2153.34] Curry: I feel that that might be interesting because there'll be like eight people [2157.86] Curry: there saying, did I go through the gate? [2160.18] Curry: I can't tell from this angle. [2162.54] Stephen: The one thing I did notice is that immediately after taking this certificate [2166.02] Stephen: that so BMFA doesn't seem to be aware that there is an FPV racing [2171.58] Stephen: so and you have to kind of get in touch with people who know about it [2176.42] Stephen: and inquiring directly to BMFA headquarters. [2180.34] Stephen: I've got a number of confused responses [2182.5] Stephen: like you can go and take this at any club and I asked club people [2186.1] Stephen: and they're like, we don't that there isn't an FPV. [2190.22] Stephen: You can't do FPV multi-roader. [2191.98] Stephen: They just had no idea it existed. [2193.58] Stephen: So so I ended up [2196.26] Stephen: Andrew slash Frank very kindly put me in touch with someone [2198.62] Stephen: who was definitely in the know and a very, very competent and helpful guy [2202.1] Stephen: who was able to to act as examiner. So. [2206.5] Stephen: Thank you very much, Dave, for doing that. [2210.42] Curry: I guess I guess it might not be any club [2212.42] Curry: because the clubs sort of operate all under their own conditions. [2216.66] Curry: Don't you? I'm sure there's many clubs. [2218.26] Stephen: A lot of them are very much unaware that multi-rotors are in any way [2222.3] Stephen: part of the BMFA, it appears, but, you know, some of them obviously know [2225.5] Stephen: what's going on because they hold races. [2227.18] Stephen: So, yeah, you just got to find the right people. [2230.14] Stephen: I think is the takeaway. [2231.5] Stephen: And once you find the right person, it's it's a great path [2234.7] Stephen: and fairly straightforward and probably that what would have been sensible [2237.62] Stephen: is to go to a race club and start racing. [2239.98] Stephen: And then I would have obviously had those introductions made. [2242.98] Stephen: But because I wasn't actually doing racing, [2245.42] Stephen: I just thought I'd start off and do the search [2247.42] Stephen: without having any private racing knowledge, as viewers no doubt [2251.06] Stephen: realize from our introduction to Konej episode a while ago. [2255.18] Stephen: I have no clue what's going on and found the description of Konej layouts [2260.42] Stephen: and indicating where one should turn or go over and under things. [2263.54] Stephen: Incredibly confusing that I had not done racing before. [2266.82] Stephen: But I was able to follow basic instruction and not hit things, [2270.34] Stephen: which was the important part here, as well as displaying common sense [2274.58] Stephen: and following the rules and be able to repeat them back. [2280.49] Curry: It does mostly sound like common sense, the safety step, isn't it? [2283.93] Curry: It is. [2284.97] Curry: I like the idea of don't use metal props. [2287.49] Stephen: It's like, well, now I want to find things like this is a yes and no question. [2291.49] Stephen: What what do we think the question might be? [2293.89] Stephen: Should it be a flying death blender? [2295.85] Stephen: Flying death blenders are kind of cool. [2298.13] Curry: Well, I mean, that's kind of how they make the helicopters, isn't it? [2301.45] Curry: They're definitely like, oh, we attach two samurai swords, this thing, [2304.81] Curry: and we can tilt them to make it go up and down. [2307.81] Stephen: Yeah, when the when the the wing speed is that fast, [2312.45] Stephen: it doesn't really matter if they're made of cardboard or not. [2314.89] Stephen: Does it? It's going to hurt. [2316.45] Stephen: It's going to be going to be nasty. [2318.09] Stephen: It's definitely going to leave it. [2319.37] Stephen: It's going to leave a mark. [2321.29] Stephen: Mm hmm. Yeah. [2323.65] Stephen: In fact, this was a helicopter club where I did that, [2327.81] Stephen: which I guess means it's more kind of open to multi rotors. [2331.17] Stephen: And they had all the flags in the in the shed. [2335.77] Stephen: So I'm guessing that they weren't doing heli racing. [2339.05] Stephen: Is heli racing a thing? [2340.65] Stephen: I'd imagine given the time to repair an average heli when it crashes, [2344.21] Stephen: it's probably nothing. [2345.89] Curry: No, nobody flies FPV on helis [2349.41] Curry: and nobody takes them under undergates. [2353.17] Curry: They're too busy doing those insane physics. [2356.57] Curry: Denying look at my well away from any of the happy with the ground and the air, [2362.69] Stephen: but no other trees or gates or anything, please. [2365.77] Stephen: Just yeah. [2367.41] Curry: Well, they're they're super stale, [2370.21] Curry: big turbine things that cost a fortune that sound very cool. [2374.93] Stephen: Yeah, and they'll be flown [2376.53] Stephen: 300 foot off the deck very slowly in circles. [2379.57] Stephen: Yes, looking very scale. [2383.57] Stephen: Yeah, the scale flying thing does. [2385.89] Stephen: It amuses me. [2387.49] Curry: I think it can look very, very nice is [2390.17] Curry: I think scale planes look really lovely in the air. [2392.93] Curry: The old sort of World War One, World War Two. [2396.37] Curry: Yeah, planes. [2397.49] Stephen: I just I just find it faintly comical, I guess, because it's like, [2401.41] Stephen: is it is it small plane close up or is it big plane far away? [2405.49] Stephen: It's just it just instantly reminds me of Father Ted. [2409.89] Curry: I mean, I suppose I suppose it's slightly with scale comes less bumpiness, [2415.73] Curry: I guess, as opposed to sort of your little foamy sort of [2420.81] Curry: lump it around in the wind. [2423.17] Curry: Yeah, how is your plane adventure going since since the first? [2426.57] Stephen: It's not. I don't really enjoy flying planes. [2429.13] Stephen: When I've got space to do it, I'll drag it out and give it another go. [2431.89] Stephen: But you know how I said I can't fly the five inch much [2435.41] Stephen: because there's not enough space. [2437.29] Stephen: Well, guess I'm able to fly a wing even less. [2442.41] Stephen: Yeah, so I'll give it a go when I can. [2446.13] Stephen: But right now, like I was out the other day [2449.85] Stephen: flying that three when it was incredibly windy and I was tuning it [2454.49] Stephen: and like cranking the P gains and everything and D gains [2458.29] Stephen: and I'm flying that in very, very windy weather. [2461.89] Stephen: And I can't fly can't fly a plane and anything. [2465.89] Stephen: But the calmest of calm, especially with like 11 or six motors [2470.21] Stephen: and a 40 centimeter wingspan. [2472.37] Stephen: That's that's not going to be tolerant of any wind. [2475.69] Stephen: So that is that is quite small. [2477.77] Stephen: We shall see. We shall see. [2479.77] Stephen: I got it just because I thought it might be a laugh. [2482.93] Stephen: But I've tried to fly planes before. [2486.37] Stephen: Like I think I had a hub sand spyhawk and [2489.97] Stephen: it spent so much time bouncing off the ground. [2492.41] Stephen: I just yeah. [2494.01] Stephen: I'm not optimistic about being able to fly planes. [2498.82] Stephen: What about yourself? [2501.26] Stephen: I like planes and you've got lots of space. [2506.86] Curry: Well, yes, I mean, I still there is the weather problem of like, [2512.22] Curry: if it's if it's too windy, it's it's not as much fun. [2516.38] Curry: But even when it is a bit windy, as soon as you get in the air, [2519.54] Curry: you can just sort of ride it around a little bit. [2521.26] Curry: So that's not so bad. [2522.66] Curry: As I said, I've still got my other [2526.98] Curry: walks now that I want to install in [2530.86] Curry: one of my little wings, which is is a wing. [2534.82] Curry: I fly a lot actually, because it just the wings just come off [2537.74] Curry: and just attach back and you can carry it around anywhere. [2540.66] Curry: So I've had for a long time. [2543.18] Curry: I've had a flight controller ready to put I never on it. [2545.5] Curry: And now I've got this walks now. [2548.38] Curry: I should really crack on and get that done. [2550.42] Curry: I'm still in the midst of office reorganization. [2554.38] Curry: The space behind me is ready to get more shelving. [2557.74] Stephen: And I still it looks like you might at any minute spin around [2560.86] Stephen: and bang out a tune on the piano. [2563.74] Stephen: Yeah, or not, or not, or not, no. [2568.86] Stephen: We don't play very well, but we give it a bang. [2572.9] Stephen: I think we should have an intro where you're just facing [2575.02] Stephen: the other way, looking back over your shoulder. [2579.41] Curry: Yeah, it's I can midi up and fake it. [2582.13] Stephen: Look, look, yeah. [2584.37] Stephen: Get the elbows moving. [2585.49] Stephen: Be fine. That's fine. [2587.61] Stephen: But what's your favorite wing then or plane or what's favorite? [2592.97] Curry: I've probably got two favorites, I think I've got the [2597.13] Curry: I've already never gone with called dementia setting. [2600.13] Curry: What is the man? [2602.21] Curry: And I'm going to have to look up my own. [2606.05] Curry: Is it a drag? [2607.81] Curry: No, they're far too expensive, Caroline. [2611.29] Curry: It is the this this is it. [2614.81] Curry: I'm now looking at my own videos and I've typed in wing hoping that I'll find it. [2626.97] Stephen: OK. Oh, wow. [2628.17] Stephen: It looks like someone throwing a dummy through the air. [2631.85] Jack: Yeah. Welcome to art. [2637.44] Curry: I don't know who this guy is, but he's very noisy out. [2640.28] Curry: If you look here, he's like he's literally going to be just done [2644.08] Curry: like a foam cut out. [2645.68] Curry: Yeah, I see a foam cut out. [2647.36] Stephen: And then you've got it's like 2D with a couple of 3D spars [2651.04] Curry: and then you've got a bit of reinforcement, bits. [2654.4] Curry: It's I want to see. [2655.76] Curry: See what that looks like. [2658.08] Stephen: Yeah, that looks like a challenging launch. [2661.56] Stephen: I mean, it's got things to hold on to us. [2663.2] Stephen: Where's the where's the prop? [2664.84] Stephen: Oh, it's under the guy's chin. [2665.96] Stephen: Is it there? There you go. [2667.32] Stephen: It's got his calf stabilizers and the ones. [2671.56] Curry: Oh, it is a launch. [2675.38] Curry: All right. [2677.78] Stephen: Yeah, that's pretty amazing. [2681.42] Stephen: It's quite convincing once it gets like 20 or 30 meters away. [2685.1] Stephen: Yeah. Don't realize it's 2D. [2687.3] Stephen: Oh, most are not working. [2688.9] Stephen: How's it glide? [2690.94] Curry: I mean, that's not bad. [2692.78] Curry: Better than a person, I would say. [2694.18] Curry: It's not the worst landing I've seen. [2697.26] Curry: But yeah, that is, you know, oh, he's got a cape now. [2701.62] Stephen: That's fun. That's what you need, isn't it? [2703.62] Stephen: It's literally super convincing. [2705.82] Stephen: It's pretty convincing. [2708.26] Stephen: I reckon you can do it out of foam board, I think. [2711.06] Stephen: Yeah, do anything out of foam board. [2715.02] Stephen: Yeah, just need enough power to weight ratio and you're sorted. [2719.18] Stephen: And fantastic. [2720.78] Curry: What I still haven't found out is what my favorite wing is. [2724.26] Curry: My other favorite wing, which is over there, [2726.86] Curry: is the Mini Talon, [2729.78] Curry: which is a sort of a largest wing and carries quite a heavy payload. [2735.86] Curry: Is that the open HD one? [2738.3] Curry: No, that's that's the the Mini Talons are more of a traditional plane. [2743.22] Curry: It's a V tail. [2745.58] Curry: But it will it's quite a substantial plane, [2749.06] Curry: and I fly on like a 5,200 4S, [2752.14] Curry: and I haven't run out of battery yet after about 40 minutes. [2755.9] Curry: Either it's winter and my thumbs are frozen [2757.9] Curry: or I've got a bit bored because I've already explored everywhere. [2760.9] Curry: So I come and land it again. [2763.5] Curry: What's the wingspan? It's. [2767.62] Curry: I'm going to say it's like about four and a half by feet, [2770.58] Curry: but it's a very deep, deep wing. [2772.46] Curry: So it's got quite a lot of wing area. [2775.42] Curry: 5,200 mile 4S is a heck of a pack. [2778.58] Curry: Yeah, you could probably double that easily. [2780.46] Curry: Quite substantially, but that is that's a quite a big plane. [2786.98] Curry: And when it comes into like glide, it [2792.22] Curry: it needs quite a lot of space to land. [2794.18] Curry: So that's that's again, it's another plane, [2796.22] Curry: like you were saying, where you need the area. [2798.42] Curry: But the one that I like to fly to come down will remember, hold up. [2802.94] Curry: I will get this now because I will look is the same make [2807.34] Curry: as the the wing I did or the little plane I did not too long ago. [2812.34] Curry: So I will just figure out what that what the make of that one is. [2816.58] Curry: And then I will get that from there. [2818.7] Stephen: That is a thinky, thinky, thinky, thinky, thinky. [2822.42] Stephen: I don't really thinking sounds. [2825.1] Stephen: Thinking Curry. Yeah. [2827.1] Stephen: Ariana, the thinking that's so wrong. [2830.22] Curry: Why can't I remember stuff? [2832.78] Curry: Can't remember nothing. [2835.46] Curry: Why is it not there? [2839.1] Curry: It's not a Bixler. [2840.18] Curry: No, what's what's the little one like? [2842.22] Curry: They've got a oh, there we go. It's [2846.38] Curry: it is a zode, a zode what we'll get it. [2852.15] Curry: We'll get it. It's not the drift. [2855.39] Curry: It's the dart, the zode dart. [2858.75] Stephen: Aha. So dart. [2860.27] Stephen: OK, that's quite a big name. [2861.47] Stephen: I've heard zode. Z-O-H-D. Right. Yeah. [2865.03] Curry: That that is a fun little wing. [2868.83] Curry: And I see I've got some pictures of it, which I don't. [2872.51] Curry: And as I'm saying, the good thing about that is [2875.67] Curry: it's it's about this big, the body and everything is magnetic. [2880.47] Curry: So you get the wings and the was not the one with the carbon fiber. [2885.47] Stephen: Look like a quad body. [2887.35] Stephen: It's like a carbon fiber tube and the wings just was that different one. [2891.31] Stephen: No, that's a different one. If you look at [2895.59] Stephen: magnetic does sound [2897.67] Stephen: good, so long as I guess the magnets are not used [2901.15] Stephen: along the lines of force that the airframe would sustain during flight. Yeah, it's [2907.15] Stephen: this is it here. [2908.15] Curry: That's the little one. [2909.91] Curry: And it's next to the [2913.03] Curry: mini Talon, my two favorite planes. [2917.27] Curry: And this is my friend's accent. [2919.03] Curry: He used to have everyone's first plane was an accent. [2923.71] Stephen: It looks a lot like the spy hawk that I had that [2927.31] Stephen: it's a bit bigger than a mesh cell on eBay. [2931.71] Curry: Yes, as Caroline says, the ZO-DART is discontinued. [2934.43] Curry: Is the DART 250G still existing or has that gone now as well? [2938.67] Curry: But I can put on the little DART a little 1300 3S [2943.71] Curry: and a good 25 minutes of messing around with that and going fast. [2949.35] Curry: And I think much longer. [2951.99] Curry: You were to take it easy or so that that's kind of why [2956.43] Curry: I wanted to take this one and put the the walk snail in it [2961.07] Curry: and a proper INF config because it's you can put it in a backpack. [2966.35] Curry: So all up and just go out. [2968.71] Curry: And I think I'll use that a lot more [2972.31] Curry: than putting it in like a bigger plane and doing things with it. [2977.03] Curry: Makes sense. [2978.75] Stephen: That's my fun. [2979.63] Stephen: So I mentioned open HD a couple of times. [2982.91] Stephen: Not so long ago, you were almost an open HD champion. [2986.63] Stephen: You know, upgrading and upgrading, upgrading. [2989.87] Stephen: Things seem to have gone off the boil a bit now. [2992.23] Stephen: Is it because the project has gone a bit weird or have you just sort of found it [2998.03] Stephen: a bit of a dead end? [2999.99] Curry: Not really. I just haven't had time. [3002.23] Curry: I don't know if you you saw the video I put out while I was in Japan [3005.75] Curry: saying I'm going to I'm going to change my my video content somewhat. [3009.83] Curry: Yeah, I saw that. [3011.07] Curry: Yeah. And that's that's one of the things it's like, well, I want it. [3013.87] Curry: I wanted to get out fly that again, but I got sidetracked by [3017.43] Curry: I've got some reviews to do. [3018.87] Curry: Chasing the review cycle. [3020.35] Curry: Yeah. Doing the review cycle. [3021.27] Stephen: You've kind of got blindsided into a lot of reviews. [3024.59] Stephen: I noticed your channel sometimes you're like quite quiet. [3027.19] Stephen: And then there's just like a cluster bomb of reviews. [3029.51] Stephen: And I'm just yeah, I'm almost like, [3032.63] Stephen: oh, that must be difficult being Curry. [3034.59] Stephen: Like suddenly you've got 10 different manufacturers saying review my thing [3038.87] Curry: all at once. Yeah, surprisingly, since I launched that video, [3042.83] Curry: I've had nothing but emails from people saying, please test this, [3046.35] Curry: please test this, please test this. [3047.99] Curry: And to be fair, some of them it's like, well, that could be quite interesting. [3050.99] Curry: I should have a look at that or that might be helpful. [3053.59] Curry: So I'll have a look at that. [3054.43] Curry: One of which is is sitting here on the desk, which I haven't looked at yet, [3057.19] Curry: which is purely purely a me thing. [3060.19] Curry: It's just like a wireless mic and transmit, [3063.35] Curry: which I thought, oh, that'll save me some time [3065.59] Curry: because I can have that instead of screwing in my big mic and stuff. [3069.15] Curry: But like other people like [3072.11] Curry: S.N.T. who make those tiny little cars. [3074.95] Curry: Oh, yeah. Just sort of sent me three while I was away. [3078.11] Curry: And then emailed me to say, we've sent you three more cars. [3080.31] Curry: It's like, I don't know. [3081.71] Curry: I've got 12 cars of those right now. [3085.99] Curry: I'll just have a look at another three. [3087.35] Curry: So walks now. Oh, when? [3089.47] Curry: Yeah, walks now car would be fun. [3091.55] Curry: But yeah, so I've got I've still got a bit of a drudge of review stuff [3095.19] Curry: to get through, some of which do look quite good. [3098.91] Curry: And like there's a new radio master things. [3101.23] Curry: I thought I look at that because I like the master stuff. [3105.19] Curry: But yeah, then then I want to get on with some stuff like doing the follow ups. [3108.67] Stephen: Like you had a lot of kind of I guess you're just being sort of scattergunned, [3112.99] Stephen: lots of different things that were arriving. [3114.95] Stephen: I heard you reviewing in the past saying you had to kind of say no. [3119.51] Stephen: And you were getting things you didn't really want to review. [3121.91] Stephen: And it was. It sounds like you want to do the reviews for the fun of reviewing the thing. [3126.87] Stephen: It's not a career choice to be a reviewer. [3129.75] Stephen: It's something you're doing because it's fun to review stuff. [3133.99] Curry: Yeah, I mean, that that's the big that's the big battle with myself. [3139.07] Curry: It's like somebody says, oh, we can give you this thing for free. [3143.87] Curry: If you make a video about it, it's like, oh, that looks quite interesting. [3147.67] Curry: I'm sort of interested in it for myself. [3151.23] Curry: Not because I think it's like, oh, this is going to cause me to earn lots of money [3155.83] Curry: from people buying them because. [3157.79] Stephen: Yeah, you don't want to be part of the crowd, part of the kind of seven or eight people [3161.87] Stephen: who when some big tech item comes out all drop their review in the same 30 minutes [3167.07] Stephen: the day that the embargo finishes, because you're not really adding anything, [3172.55] Stephen: are you, at that point? [3173.87] Curry: No, I'm just I'm just another small cog in the wheel. [3177.23] Curry: But yeah, I kind of think if if something's if something's interesting and fun, [3183.31] Curry: then I'll take a look at it. [3184.43] Curry: But I would much prefer to have stuff that. [3189.71] Curry: Make me have some sort of weird adventure or some sort of discovery into doing it. [3194.87] Curry: Like, I really liked looking at those those those RadioMaster PWM receivers [3200.35] Curry: because I got to try and sort of retrofit them into a bunch of wings [3204.83] Curry: and then tried tried flying them and stuff and had little disasters with that. [3210.07] Curry: And then the new little little unlimited range for 4G FPV system, [3218.03] Curry: which is going to go in a car. [3219.79] Curry: I thought, well, that sounds fun, although I'm worried about my car getting stolen. [3224.91] Stephen: When you look back for all the reviews you've done in the past, [3227.47] Stephen: you know, got this litany of products going back for years. [3230.87] Stephen: What do you think stood out as being like the most fun things to review [3234.91] Stephen: that you personally kind of like got the most out of? [3240.91] Curry: Interesting. I mean, I kind of I've kind of liked really like [3248.67] Curry: outstandingly good ready to fly quads, because although like people have mentioned, [3256.11] Curry: then it's it's really funny when you get a crappy product. [3259.99] Stephen: And that one in 20s that arrived that year and you just went, wow. [3264.95] Curry: Yeah, stuff like the Holy Bro quads, which are very good [3272.03] Curry: these are the Coppice ones, they just all flew brilliantly. [3278.23] Curry: And the Immersion RC Mojo 230, which was like that that was amazing out of the box [3288.55] Curry: because that was so far ahead of its time. [3291.27] Curry: Nobody was doing anything like that. [3292.95] Curry: So it had two F3 boards in it, one of which was the regular flight controller, [3297.83] Curry: the other which was their own software with their own OSD. [3301.71] Curry: It had their own connection to the camera back. [3304.19] Curry: Do you remember with the CCD cameras you'd often have? [3307.43] Curry: I mean, you get this with CMOS now, you get like a little menu board [3310.95] Curry: and you can go through stuff that way ahead of its time had a connection. [3315.35] Curry: So from the menu, you could go into the camera menu and change things there. [3320.35] Curry: And you could you could tell it which way the motors were spinning [3323.95] Curry: and they'd correct themselves. [3325.03] Curry: And there's like motor diagnosis tool that it would measure the RPM. [3329.51] Curry: This is the, let me get it, it's the Mojo 230 it's called. [3333.55] Stephen: Oh, Immersion RC. [3334.83] Curry: The Immersion RC one, yeah, it's not fine. [3339.23] Stephen: Wasn't that like a big plastic frame? [3341.67] Stephen: I seem to remember it was like brightly coloured. [3343.55] Stephen: So I assumed it had plastic parts on it. [3346.39] Stephen: Might be back from a time when quads were of a different type of build. [3351.43] Stephen: Oh, no. [3352.87] Stephen: It looks like it's that coloured arms or are those plastic arms? [3357.39] Curry: So you've got normal, normal carbon bits here, plastic protectors under there. [3362.31] Curry: Oh, bring it all the way down. [3364.19] Curry: And so it came sort of as is. [3367.63] Curry: And all we had to do is open this up, plop in a receiver. [3371.11] Curry: This is some XSR or something with the things hanging out. [3374.47] Curry: There's giant mushroom antennas and still in one piece. [3377.55] Stephen: Most of them have got some mushrooms. [3378.87] Curry: This is the Immersion RC antenna as well. [3382.07] Curry: And yeah, the CCD camera, but at the time, spot on. [3387.39] Curry: And this, the thing about it, which I quite like about Immersion RC is [3393.47] Curry: and you often get things that just don't get tested. [3397.43] Curry: So like the one S props as well. [3399.23] Curry: So so like recently it was like beta FPV. [3403.51] Curry: It's like you receive the ERS module and you're like, how do you update this? [3409.11] Curry: Because I plug something in and it doesn't work. [3411.63] Curry: Have you tested this? [3414.39] Curry: Which they can't have done, which with this thing, they sort of tested it. [3418.91] Curry: They gave it to like some pro pilots as a test this for us and tune it to your liking. [3425.19] Curry: And then once they had it sorted and they did all the changes, they put the tunes on. [3430.51] Curry: So this has got the tune on from who is he? [3437.5] Curry: Jesus, my memory. [3440.98] Curry: Somebody who's really good. [3443.26] Curry: And so that was the difference. [3445.78] Curry: Yeah, it's gone. [3447.3] Curry: I can remember some Japanese, but most English words have gone. [3450.94] Curry: That's all you mean, mate. [3451.94] Curry: Just remember what the tasty things are. [3453.9] Curry: Yeah. Let the rest go. [3455.9] Curry: Thingy, Chad, Chad Nowak. [3458.22] Curry: Right. [3459.78] Curry: Something fly. [3460.74] Curry: Oh, I don't I don't know. [3462.1] Curry: Sorry, Chad. [3463.54] Curry: His tunes on that and that that was the difference to me about seeing a chord that's [3470.22] Curry: perfectly tuned. [3471.3] Curry: And I mean, absolutely smooth, it's like versus one of my tuning. [3475.74] Curry: So that is that's a great quad. [3478.58] Curry: That was actually that was sent by a magazine review that one. [3483.06] Curry: Thank you. Wow. [3484.62] Stephen: That kind of dates it, doesn't it? [3486.06] Stephen: Back when magazines existed. [3488.26] Stephen: When you could actually get enough of a circulation with a paper publication [3492.78] Stephen: about a niche hobby. [3494.26] Stephen: Yes, it's incredible. [3496.26] Curry: I wrote I think I wrote for five magazines in all and three of them are out of production. [3502.74] Curry: One, I had to take to small claims court to get them to pay me. [3507.34] Curry: And the other one is it won't be going too long because I published an article there [3513.42] Curry: about it was kind of about like old school. [3518.18] Curry: Traditional pilots flying fixed wing versus quads for one of them in the air show things. [3524.18] Curry: And in their same issue, they had like a readership survey, the results of it. [3529.06] Curry: And like the average age of the reader was like 71. [3532.38] Curry: So it was like, OK, these guys aren't much longer, at which case the the magazine doesn't [3543.1] Curry: have an audience anymore. [3544.14] Stephen: So yeah, like when I'm in an airport thing, so I look at magazine racks and [3548.18] Stephen: I'll get something for the flight. [3549.3] Stephen: And yeah, it's it's like unless you're doing generic lifestyle tips or photographs of the [3555.22] Stephen: rich and famous like the broadest, most vague categories, there's just no room in the market [3560.58] Stephen: for magazines anymore. [3561.7] Stephen: It's kind of magazines just don't have an existence. [3563.78] Stephen: Yeah, go read a book instead, which is kind of a thing. [3568.58] Stephen: Yeah. Yeah. And in many ways, personal websites have kind of gone like a lot of people who [3573.06] Stephen: used to have their own sites. [3574.1] Stephen: I think Oscar Lang is is the kind of exception when he's still putting out quality content. [3578.62] Stephen: But a lot of the sites I used to read for quadcopter content, they've just kind of vanished [3584.7] Stephen: or they've stopped being updated. [3586.34] Stephen: You look at the last post is 2019 or something. [3591.34] Stephen: It's all just become, you know, Yolo something out on Instagram or Facebook, put some like [3598.14] Stephen: weird portrait video out. [3600.26] Stephen: Another thing I hate. [3601.94] Stephen: That's the thing that gets me I'm a generation that just cannot abide portrait video. [3606.1] Stephen: You're doing it wrong, you're doing it wrong, doing it wrong. [3609.62] Stephen: Like our eyes are not on top of each other. [3611.54] Stephen: Stop it. [3613.46] Stephen: And yeah, unless you're doing that, I think you just can't get the eyeballs anymore, unfortunately. [3620.06] Curry: No, it is a it is a different game. [3624.46] Curry: But yeah, yeah, so so my my future will hopefully involve some more interesting projects or as I [3635.26] Curry: said, more sort of longer to produce videos, because despite despite reviews looking like [3645.5] Curry: they clunk together in five minutes, they do take about the ages of filming and messing [3650.9] Curry: around and editing and wondering if that works and go back to the manufacturer saying, hey, [3655.86] Curry: this didn't work. [3657.18] Curry: It's like I've got from from months ago, a robot kit, because I was I was quite passionate [3666.86] Curry: about like the stem stuff. [3668.06] Curry: And I actually had like proper, like competitions and stuff. [3672.02] Curry: So I built their robot. [3673.58] Curry: And then at the moment, it's probably been 30 hours of video because I had to build like [3680.62] Curry: five variations of this robot and get it to do things. [3684.62] Curry: And then so for the last one, I thought I'd design something really complicated, use all [3688.86] Curry: the sensors, use all the motors, and then have it drive around this course and use the [3693.58] Curry: sensors to try and work out what barrels are and pick them up and take them back and put [3697.1] Curry: them down. [3697.5] Curry: So very like a lot of work. [3699.74] Curry: Let's let's do this. [3700.86] Curry: I figured it out. [3701.66] Curry: I figured that'd be okay. [3702.7] Curry: I can I can crack this out. [3704.5] Curry: And I've made the board brown out, essentially. [3708.3] Curry: And so I was in touch with these guys and I had to do this test, do this test. [3712.3] Curry: I said, look, see, it's gone it's gone wrong. [3714.26] Curry: And it's like it's a combination of having the gyro sensor, another sensor, putting a [3718.74] Curry: certain motor under pressure makes it go bad. [3721.46] Curry: And they've come up with we think it's you using regular alkaline batteries. [3727.14] Curry: We think it's it's browning out and causing the ball to crash. [3730.5] Curry: And then the motor is getting stuck on. [3732.86] Curry: And they said, we're going to send you one of our lithium ion packs, which will hold up [3738.18] Curry: and it's going to fix the problem. [3740.94] Curry: So while I was away, they said, oh, have you got it yet? [3743.78] Curry: Is it working? [3744.3] Curry: I said, oh, I haven't got it yet. [3745.9] Curry: Did you send it? [3746.54] Curry: It's a year should be there by now. [3748.62] Curry: So when I got home, it wasn't here. [3751.26] Curry: So I said, hey, it wasn't here. [3752.98] Curry: Do you have like a tracking number or anything so we can check it? [3755.7] Curry: And I said, yes, we do. [3757.3] Curry: I said, it got delivered. [3758.98] Curry: I was like, I checked the tracking number. [3761.14] Curry: And what they were what there was as proof of delivery was a photo of my open recycling [3765.3] Curry: bin. [3766.42] Curry: So they'd taken the package, delivered it to the recycling bin. [3770.18] Curry: And then they didn't put a note through the door to say, we've put the package in your [3773.58] Curry: recycling bin. [3774.26] Curry: So the day after my battery went very tightly, which is probably the worst thing. [3780.7] Stephen: And I was horrified. [3782.14] Stephen: I like called up customer service for the company in question and screamed at them bad. [3786.66] Stephen: Like in no world does putting a package in a bin counter safely delivering like the one [3793.66] Stephen: purpose of that receptacle is to dispose of things. [3798.18] Stephen: And what world do you think that that is a safe destination? [3801.98] Stephen: You might as well just leave it in plain sight and hope someone nicks it because putting it [3806.62] Stephen: in a bin, like one day in seven, it's going to be immediately disposed of. [3812.94] Stephen: Like, what do you think? [3815.14] Curry: I mean, it wouldn't be so bad if they put a note through the door saying, we have put [3819.1] Curry: your delivery in the recycling bin. [3820.82] Curry: But because they didn't, my mother-in-law who was staying in the house didn't think like [3825.98] Curry: to randomly check bins and they didn't send me the tracking. [3829.54] Curry: So I couldn't it's not like I got tracking updates to say we have we have delivered it. [3834.22] Curry: And then I could look at the phone and say, quick, get out of the bin. [3836.78] Curry: It's just like we have randomly hidden it around your property. [3840.38] Curry: It'd be disposed of if you don't find it in a day. [3843.02] Stephen: This is like Yodel, who decided that they deliver our pet food and that the best place [3848.18] Stephen: to leave it was the end of our path on the pavement. [3851.62] Stephen: And so we got back to find that box had been torn open and like savaged by passing dogs. [3858.9] Stephen: Like they didn't even bother to carry it up the path. [3861.62] Stephen: They just dumped it on the street and walked off. [3864.98] Stephen: Just just awful. [3867.5] Curry: Yes, it's very strange. [3868.54] Curry: I've had really high value items just left outside. [3872.62] Curry: And this battery, they decided like this is this might get stolen. [3876.7] Stephen: We'll put it in a bit. [3879.02] Stephen: On a more positive and drone related thing. [3881.54] Stephen: This is the video I got of the O3 in a very, very windy day. [3886.38] Stephen: And I had better luck with gyro flow than you did. [3889.78] Stephen: And I managed to get this out of it. [3892.46] Stephen: I don't know if you can see, but the trees are going quite considerably side to side. [3897.78] Stephen: And I managed to get this bit of footage out of it with gyro flow on default settings from the O3. [3905.26] Stephen: I was pretty pleased with that. [3906.82] Stephen: Yeah, trees are bouncing ground. [3909.02] Stephen: It's a bit funny, but when I pitch, it does that kind of funny zooming things. [3913.66] Stephen: It doesn't want to let me do that. [3915.7] Stephen: But yeah, I was I was incredibly impressed. [3919.58] Stephen: I thought, wow, it felt like it had finally arrived at this point. [3923.3] Stephen: I'm not the biggest fan of the way it does light and dark. [3929.18] Stephen: It looks to me like it never wants to overexpose, but it'll quite happily like turn a lot of the picture into jet black, [3936.7] Stephen: which I don't know if it's just my eyes, but something about seeing jet black just irks me. [3943.5] Stephen: I like to see the detail in the dark parts of the screen. [3947.86] Stephen: I don't know if you find that, but it irks me for some reason. [3951.02] Stephen: And I've had camera people say, oh, it's better they don't blow out the bright areas. [3955.7] Stephen: And yeah, that's good because when it's blown out, you can't get any more detail. [3958.78] Stephen: But if they don't if they leave the dark areas as jet black, that's just the opposite side of the same coin, [3965.58] Stephen: which is that you can't pull anything out of those blacks. [3969.62] Stephen: If they're just black, there's no information that it does. [3973.5] Curry: It needs to be adjusted in some way. [3977.38] Curry: So you're seeing the right detail in both ends of it. [3982.38] Stephen: I gave it a small bump on the EV light plus not point three. [3986.58] Stephen: And I might just try and bump the EV some more. [3990.62] Stephen: But I'm not sure if I'm ever going to be completely happy like that [3994.9] Stephen: compared to the walk snail in similar conditions. [3998.26] Stephen: The walk snail doesn't overexpose the sky, but it gives me more detail in the dark areas. [4006.1] Stephen: So it feels like I'm kind of getting the best of both worlds with walks now. [4011.34] Stephen: Whereas with the three, it feels like the dark areas stay very dark. [4019.5] Stephen: I don't know. Maybe I'm not enough for a camera snob. [4022.18] Stephen: And if I was, I'd think that's the better way to have it, [4024.5] Stephen: because you're making a compromise in the right direction. [4027.14] Stephen: I'm not too sure. [4029.22] Curry: Well, I think the problem is we we we're often getting dark areas [4033.9] Curry: because we fly gently close to the floor. [4036.22] Curry: So if you're going to have something that's getting the exposure, you want it down there. [4040.78] Curry: It doesn't matter so much if the sky is blown out [4044.06] Curry: because you don't need to look at detail there, do you? [4046.26] Curry: Yeah, I'm flying under a tree as the FPV pilot's eye [4049.98] Stephen: and not the photographer's eye, I guess. [4052.02] Stephen: Maybe if you're a photographer, you consider the the entire picture [4055.86] Stephen: and not just the parts that you want to actually fly into. [4058.58] Stephen: Whereas, you know, as an FPV pilot, you're like, if I'm going to be flying there, [4062.62] Stephen: I want to see everything there. [4064.22] Stephen: And the sky is just the sky, whether it's blown out or not blown out. [4068.18] Stephen: You're pretty sure unless there's a black dot in it, you're good to fly there. [4072.78] Curry: I tend to think so. Yes. [4076.38] Stephen: Well, hey, we've been here for over an hour. [4078.94] Stephen: We've been going. Yeah, going for over an hour. [4081.26] Stephen: So probably an appropriate time to call it. [4084.02] Stephen: Sorry, I haven't been paying attention to the chat. [4085.94] Stephen: I've been. Distracted, I guess, from that. [4090.42] Stephen: But thank you for everyone in the chat. [4092.42] Stephen: Hello, Caroline. Hello, shady and Hydra, I think was there as well. [4097.5] Stephen: And style sucks. Oh, thank you for your awesome work on Bluejay. [4103.22] Stephen: We should put out a note that style sucks. [4106.66] Stephen: And Daniel Mascara have done some fantastic work on Bluejay. [4115.04] Stephen: And they just put out a release this week for the long-awaited [4118.96] Stephen: for naught point 20 version of Bluejay that fixes a whole bunch of problems [4123.92] Stephen: and gives you some some safety checks and things as well. [4126.84] Stephen: So if you are running a BL Heli S ESC and haven't updated, [4131.64] Stephen: now is the time to use Bluejay. [4133.32] Stephen: And if you're using an older version of Bluejay, please update. [4137.24] Stephen: So, yeah, little tip for everyone out there. [4139.36] Stephen: Go check it out. [4140.4] Stephen: And you can use this guy's awesome website to do it as well. [4144.32] Stephen: ESC hyphen configurator ESC hyphen configurator.com [4150.36] Stephen: any chrome based browser. [4151.8] Stephen: So that's edge chromium or Vivaldi. [4155.48] Stephen: Any one of the bajillion chromium offshoots will work. [4160.04] Stephen: And you can even use that on mobile devices, I think, on Android, at least. [4164.32] Stephen: So, yeah, give it a go. [4166.08] Stephen: Nice and easy upgrade. [4167.6] Stephen: And it will help because then you can use RPM filtering [4170.84] Stephen: and even EDT safety arming as well, [4174.48] Stephen: which will make sure you can't accidentally spin your props in your hand. [4178.28] Stephen: Everyone wants some mobile device, Android mobile devices that play nicely. [4184.5] Stephen: Yeah, it's a mobile devices are a bit of a crapshoot. [4188.74] Stephen: But nothing's going to work in my mind. [4191.66] Stephen: Nothing works on Apple. [4192.74] Stephen: No, that's the 3D mode as well. [4196.38] Stephen: Now you can do sustained and inverted flight as well, [4199.26] Stephen: but it was a little bit wonky and would look like a decent before. [4202.46] Stephen: So well done, guys, just an excellent thing [4206.06] Stephen: and keeping a lot of older quads in the air with up to date features. [4209.46] Stephen: So I think that's fantastic. Thanks. [4212.46] Stephen: And with that and a huge thank you to our list of amazing patrons [4216.82] Stephen: that are scrolling at the bottom of the screen, we will bid you adieu. [4222.02] Stephen: Thank you from the wonderful Curry Kitten. [4225.34] Curry: Goodbye. Thank you from the start, Stephen. [4229.82] Stephen: Cheers. Have a good week. [4231.54] Stephen: Catch you later, everyone. Bye. Bye.
