[0.0] Jack: Hello and you're listening to Let's Drone Out and special thank you to our lovely patrons that helped donate so that we could pay the editor to remove the swear words and silly things we say. Massive thank you too.
[14.0] Jack: Kolas campos.
[16.0] Jack: Art folkner.
[18.0] Jack: Sam Dahmer.
[19.0] Stephen: On with the show.
[21.0] Curry: Let's Drone Out now.
[23.0] Stephen: Hello and welcome to this week's Let's Drone Out.
[56.48] Stephen: Episode 424 joined this week by fail safe FPV aka Rowan. Hello Rowan.
[64.48] Stephen: And let us not forget everyone's favorite Curry kitten.
[68.48] Jack: Hello.
[70.48] Stephen: That's me Stephen.
[72.48] Stephen: Follow me mode.
[73.48] Stephen: With the silly mustache. Yeah Curry's got the butler cam that follows him around and brings him toast.
[79.48] Stephen: And we're trying to make ourselves, me and Rowan make ourselves look like cool YouTubers by using slightly fancy cameras.
[87.48] Stephen: Maybe succeeding maybe not.
[89.48] Stephen: We'll let the audience decide.
[91.48] Failsafe: I even, about that guys,
[94.48] Failsafe: I even bought a box of lights up here to try and make like a cool background but I never got round to doing that.
[100.48] Failsafe: It was like, yeah, it was like 30 minutes before the stream.
[103.48] Failsafe: And I just didn't get enough time.
[105.48] Failsafe: But maybe next time we'll have the LED, the cool rainbow effects behind me.
[109.48] Failsafe: That's what I'm learning like.
[111.48] Stephen: You've got to actually do these things several hours before the stream and then switch them off and walk away.
[116.48] Stephen: Because if you say, oh, I've got 25 minutes before we go live.
[119.48] Stephen: Yeah, that's not going to happen.
[121.48] Stephen: Yeah.
[122.48] Curry: This is my interpretation of fail safe getting his paycheck.
[127.48] Curry: I'm buying something.
[128.48] Curry: What shall I buy this time?
[129.48] Curry: It's going to be a mixing desk for a camera or lights behind me.
[133.48] Curry: Yeah.
[134.48] Curry: Where's all my money gone?
[135.48] Failsafe: Trust it.
[136.48] Curry: Ramen again.
[137.48] Failsafe: That's how it is.
[140.48] Failsafe: No, I've got boring stuff to be saving up for now.
[142.48] Failsafe: I'm doing driver lessons.
[144.48] Failsafe: Well, I'd say boring, but I'm looking forward to be able to going out flying to someplace other than just like the local park.
[151.48] Failsafe: So I'll be really good.
[152.48] Failsafe: Yeah, I'm doing driver lessons.
[153.48] Failsafe: So hopefully by March I'll be driving.
[155.48] Failsafe: Watch out, guys.
[156.48] Failsafe: Hopefully I don't crash the car as much as I do.
[158.48] Stephen: There's going to be some old banger on the road loaded up with 10 grounds worth of camera gear, quad gear.
[165.48] Stephen: It's worth going to be worth like five times more than the car.
[167.48] Stephen: It's being hauled around and up and down 400 miles in a weekend.
[170.48] Failsafe: It'd be like this 500 pounds just scrap car or something.
[174.48] Failsafe: I was driving here.
[175.48] Failsafe: I don't know.
[176.48] Failsafe: I guess I'm better than that.
[177.48] Failsafe: But yeah.
[178.48] Stephen: So how have we been flying or I guess driving in some people's cases this week?
[185.48] Failsafe: I'll let Corey get and start.
[187.48] Failsafe: I don't think so.
[188.48] Curry: Well, kind of.
[190.48] Curry: Last week, and I put the video out, I was trying to test batteries and I had this Chimera 7 quad, quite a nice quad from iFlight, which seemed to occasionally fall out the sky for reasons unknown.
[203.48] Curry: One of which just trying to do a battery test, a big 4000 mAh battery, 17 minutes in, it just drops.
[211.48] Curry: I was like, well, that's a bit tricky because I can't get my statistics now.
[215.48] Curry: And then I did another one for 17 minutes and that was OK.
[219.48] Curry: And then I tested rescue mode and that was bad.
[223.48] Curry: And iFlight seemed to be very, very keen that you don't go to 44 or anything other than what they prescribe to say, this is what you should be using.
[237.48] Curry: So I talked to their support guys and they said, oh, well, you moved it.
[241.48] Curry: You moved it from our magic set up.
[244.48] Curry: I was like, well, yeah, that's pretty normal, isn't it?
[246.48] Curry: No, no, we don't like that set up.
[248.48] Curry: And they've literally said we're not going to do a set up on 44.
[252.48] Curry: It keeps going wrong.
[253.48] Curry: We're going to wait for 45.
[254.48] Curry: So it's like, right.
[255.48] Curry: I'll put it back to 429.
[256.48] Curry: I'll get their factory CLI dump, restore it, put it all back to normal and we're going to repeat the same test again and see if it's OK.
[266.48] Curry: Or if it does the same stuff.
[268.48] Curry: And we only got as far as the garden hover where first motor one didn't want to spin.
[274.48] Curry: And after various checking things out and resoldering motors around and deciding it was the motor,
[280.48] Curry: I found that underneath the heat shrink where the motor wire joins the motor winding, that had come away.
[288.48] Curry: I was like, well, that's weird.
[290.48] Curry: That doesn't normally happen.
[291.48] Curry: So I fixed that.
[293.48] Curry: I was like, right, we can do a garden hover.
[295.48] Curry: I thought, I just pumped the throttle a bit, just created some loads.
[299.48] Curry: And then the tip on the front went down, repeated it four times.
[304.48] Curry: I said, this is definitely a problem, captured it on black box.
[307.48] Curry: And you could see black box is saying, hey, motor one, spin up because you're starting to drop.
[313.48] Curry: Spin up.
[314.48] Curry: So you just see, you know, you see the little motor sort of indications on black box.
[319.48] Curry: Motor one goes zoom all the way up and then just falls down.
[322.48] Curry: So obviously not responding.
[324.48] Curry: And then I checked that one out.
[327.48] Curry: And then something obviously happened during those crashes because motor one,
[331.48] Curry: its winding has completely snapped away from about one inch before the connection to the motor wire.
[342.48] Curry: And it looked like a bit burnt on some of the windings.
[346.48] Curry: I was like, that's curious.
[349.48] Curry: So my flying consisted of about a minute of hovering with two minutes of falling out in the sky
[357.48] Curry: and me saying, that's weird.
[358.48] Curry: What's going on there?
[359.48] Curry: So I'm still trying to resolve that.
[364.48] Curry: And I'm slightly suspicious about this.
[368.48] Curry: I talked to a pal in the US who had a Chimera and said, his fell out of the sky.
[374.48] Curry: And when I showed him the pitch, he's like, oh, that's exactly like what my motor looked like.
[378.48] Curry: You had a snap motor wire here.
[380.48] Curry: It's like, yeah.
[381.48] Stephen: Are you on the 2809s?
[384.48] Curry: They are, I thought they were 2306s, but apparently I've just not read the font properly.
[389.48] Curry: They're 2806.5s, these motors.
[394.48] Curry: And having two motor failures where the windings have come weird.
[399.48] Curry: That's because you're struck in the ass.
[401.48] Stephen: It makes your motor windings fall apart.
[404.48] Stephen: The bug may discover a beta flight where it desolders the motor.
[407.48] Stephen: And if you try and fix it by resoldering, beta flight actually makes the windings fall apart.
[412.48] Stephen: That's what I find.
[415.48] Curry: It's not actually the first time.
[417.48] Curry: I remember the first time I reviewed a cine quad thing called the Green Hornet from iFlight.
[423.48] Curry: And that had a continual, these motors like, you know, when they're so hot, you actually burn yourself touching them.
[430.48] Curry: Oh, yeah.
[431.48] Curry: That was their first release.
[433.48] Curry: And they actually issued a completely new frame and different motors for it, eventually.
[437.48] Curry: And I'm like, they still call it the same quad, even though it was a new frame and new motors.
[443.48] Curry: They did call it the V2 in small letters.
[447.48] Curry: Yeah, I'm suspicious about that.
[449.48] Curry: So I'm still working on trying to get some new motors because now I was like, I don't trust any of these motors.
[454.48] Curry: These motors are a duff.
[456.48] Curry: I'm not flying with those.
[458.48] Stephen: That's weird because the Zing2s, which I think is iFlights, go to range.
[464.48] Stephen: The other sizes like the 2207s, they're very well regarded.
[468.48] Stephen: But maybe the 2806.5 are just the kind of red-haired stepchild of the range.
[476.48] Stephen: I don't.
[477.48] Curry: I just think it's really, really odd to get that sort of that sort of failure.
[481.48] Curry: And I've never had a single in all like the hundreds of crashes I've had and stuff like that.
[488.48] Curry: I've never had a motor winding snap because they're fairly well protected.
[495.48] Curry: Me neither.
[496.48] Stephen: It's either fine or it just burns the whole thing out.
[499.48] Stephen: It never like fractures the winding.
[501.48] Stephen: That's such a it's weird because there's like there's very little way that mechanical stress can find its way to a winding unless the bell is completely smashed.
[511.48] Stephen: And you don't hit the bell at all.
[513.48] Stephen: So, so weird.
[514.48] Stephen: No, I can't.
[515.48] Failsafe: Yeah.
[516.48] Failsafe: I've had it a few times where I've like crashed and like, you know, the edge of a motor.
[519.48] Failsafe: I like this sort of part here.
[521.48] Failsafe: I'd crash into that top bit and the whole top would like sort of then the winding would get damaged.
[529.48] Failsafe: But yeah, that's that's super odd.
[531.48] Failsafe: If the bell's not being damaged and you've had that, that's very odd.
[535.48] Stephen: You see issues and Curry isn't one to like go full blast on success with high pitch props and stuff.
[541.48] Stephen: He was just like cruising around with a lithium pack.
[544.48] Curry: So it was desperately slow.
[547.48] Curry: It was so boring.
[548.48] Curry: I was literally flying in circles and I was going to fall asleep because it's just I didn't trust it.
[554.48] Curry: So I was within this one field of cloud field going round and round and round and round for like seven minutes.
[563.48] Curry: I mean, it should have got to about 20 minutes on the on the test.
[566.48] Stephen: But when you said you had a black box problem, my first reaction was, yeah, this is going to be over my head.
[571.48] Stephen: Like that's going to be some weird like looking at PID control, like what's what's happening turn on debug traces.
[577.48] Stephen: But it was actually super obvious because you had these four lines and they're all going together along at roughly the same level.
[585.48] Stephen: And then all of a sudden one of the motors like starts pushing way harder than the other.
[590.48] Stephen: And that motor's trace just goes up hits maximum and then it's just a straight line for that one motor.
[595.48] Stephen: All the while while the craft continues to pitch down and that motor is just doing sweet FA.
[602.48] Stephen: Absolutely nothing, even though it's being told to go to maximum speed.
[607.48] Curry: So I'm thinking that was that was a general.
[610.48] Curry: It's like something's been dodgy there and it's been wearing.
[613.48] Curry: And even perhaps that one that got de-soldered was perhaps hanging on in that heat shrink until that crash is sort of like taking it out and shaking it about a bit.
[623.48] Curry: It's just crazy.
[625.48] Curry: Yeah, I agree.
[626.48] Curry: Harry Haggis, if he's saying I think I fly QC slipped a little.
[630.48] Curry: Like I said, they're getting bought by a thousand people.
[632.48] Curry: Zing have been a go to motor for many of us.
[635.48] Stephen: I might say governments as well as people.
[639.48] Stephen: Yeah.
[643.48] Stephen: They are selling a lot of them right now, if any of the photos are to be believed.
[647.48] Curry: So, yeah, my quest to get replacement motors, which aren't the same as the ones I have, is now on.
[654.48] Curry: We'll see what happens.
[656.48] Stephen: Yeah, the whole thing about not moving to 4-4, that's just kind of a bit of a pain.
[661.48] Stephen: And behind the scenes, there's this constant sort of like the Beat Flight Project tries to convince pilots to upgrade to the latest because we know stuff's getting fixed.
[671.48] Stephen: And we know new hardware is getting better support.
[674.48] Stephen: We know there's less bugs.
[676.48] Stephen: As an absolute statement of quality as we move forward, there are fewer bugs in each version.
[681.48] Stephen: But trying to get people to update to new versions can be difficult.
[685.48] Stephen: Trying to get manufacturers to update to new versions when they think they found some golden version that happens to work in their specific niche, that's, oh, it's so difficult.
[698.48] Failsafe: View average pilots as well, they're not only changing the DUI and beta flight.
[702.48] Failsafe: They're changing sort of back end settings as well, such as smoothing and all these other little bits.
[707.48] Failsafe: So it's like, you can upgrade the beta flight version, but what else do you have to change to get it fly?
[712.48] Stephen: For these manufacturers, it is basically their job to know this stuff.
[717.48] Stephen: With a pilot, I can cut them some slack and be like, oh, we've changed too many settings, so it's really difficult for a pilot.
[723.48] Stephen: But if someone is literally making money selling this kit, you'd have thought they would put in the hours and be like, yeah, I might read a couple of articles on how all this works.
[733.48] Stephen: And then I can give my customers a better experience rather than being, no, no, found it, not going to change anything.
[739.48] Curry: To be fair, their original tune on 49 was absolutely fine.
[743.48] Curry: The reason I wanted to upgrade it is because I'm running walks now.
[747.48] Curry: And in order to use full HD screen and not have the OSD squished into this bit, you need to go to 4-4.
[754.48] Curry: And that's what I'm talking about.
[756.48] Curry: They've got loads of people saying, we need this.
[759.48] Curry: But they're just like, oh, no, it's dodgy.
[761.48] Stephen: When the GPS rescue gets better as well, there was a bug where if you're going really fast in one direction and you hit GPS rescue
[772.48] Stephen: and you had to travel in the opposite direction, if your quad just spun around and had enough momentum that it was traveling backwards,
[780.48] Stephen: it would say, oh, you're supposed to be traveling that way, but you're actually going in the opposite direction.
[785.48] Stephen: Well, that's not good.
[786.48] Stephen: And it could fail safe for you because it thought that your quad had got mixed up and wasn't heading in the right direction just because you turned around at speed.
[796.48] Stephen: That bug's been removed in 4-4 and 4-5.
[800.48] Stephen: So there's a number of things where, especially with a large quad in GPS rescue, like that feature is getting better and better.
[808.48] Stephen: And they're introducing support for mags in 4-5.
[812.48] Stephen: It's not perfect, but there's some initial magnetometer support, which means you've got a much better heading again.
[819.48] Stephen: So if you're going home in a strong wind, for example, you're going to track more accurately.
[824.48] Stephen: You increase the GPS update rate as well with some of this.
[827.48] Stephen: There's lots of little fixes that go in, and it's a difficult battle to say you have to update.
[834.48] Stephen: But I can see people conversely playing devil's advocate saying, oh, I'll just stay on this because it's working.
[842.48] Stephen: And it's great when it does work until you hit a situation when it doesn't.
[848.48] Stephen: And if the situation is one that a load of other people already know about, it's kind of frustrating to be on the other side of that fence
[855.48] Stephen: and be like, we know there are bugs. Please, please upgrade.
[860.48] Curry: This is a bit like everybody that flies next class says thou shalt not go beyond 3-5-7.
[866.48] Curry: The end, it seems to be, doesn't it?
[869.48] Stephen: There are a funny bunch, yeah.
[873.48] Stephen: Interestingly enough on that, there was a whole load of hardware donated by APD, Advanced Power Drives, who make those huge chunky X-Class CSEs.
[881.48] Stephen: To give you an idea, they start at 80A.
[885.48] Stephen: That's the low-end APD.
[887.48] Stephen: And they go from 80A, I think, all the way up to 200A or more at 12 or 14S.
[895.48] Stephen: So these are giant ESCs.
[897.48] Stephen: They definitely work with RPM filtering now.
[900.48] Stephen: And you better believe you want RPM filtering when you're swinging like a 12 or 14-inch prop.
[907.48] Stephen: The way the prop might weigh as much as some of the quads that I fly, right?
[912.48] Stephen: That RPM filtering is going to help you smooth things out.
[915.48] Stephen: And a lot of people are not getting any of that with 3-5-7.
[919.48] Stephen: They're stuck back on early days with dynamic notch and no RPM filter.
[925.48] Stephen: Sorry, I completely hijacked that.
[927.48] Stephen: Fail safe. Have you been flying stuff?
[930.48] Failsafe: I have.
[932.48] Failsafe: Went out this weekend.
[934.48] Failsafe: Flew this beast.
[936.48] Failsafe: It's a Superfly flip mode.
[939.48] Failsafe: It's got gold and calm fiber.
[942.48] Failsafe: And this is my recent...
[944.48] Failsafe: Well, it's the one I took to Croatia with me.
[946.48] Failsafe: And this is the one that I basically...
[949.48] Failsafe: I only try...
[950.48] Failsafe: Because I had three quads to go to Croatia with and I left one, hopefully, working.
[955.48] Failsafe: So when I come back, I can still fly.
[958.48] Failsafe: So this one's working a minute.
[960.48] Failsafe: Flew this place called the Cowl Grinder,
[962.48] Failsafe: which is basically like an old animal processing...
[965.48] Failsafe: Well, it's like a cow processing plant for cows that had been infected with BSE.
[970.48] Failsafe: It's a bit of a sus place, but it's a super cool place.
[974.48] Stephen: Allow us. What did you spend your weekend?
[976.48] Stephen: Funny you should ask.
[978.48] Failsafe: The Cowl Grinder.
[979.48] Failsafe: Yeah, we flew that.
[980.48] Failsafe: Went along and my friend...
[982.48] Failsafe: Oh, met with some new people.
[984.48] Failsafe: What we've seen in our Mantex Discord.
[987.48] Failsafe: So Dronetrest.
[988.48] Failsafe: I don't know if any of the audience here is in that.
[991.48] Failsafe: But I met with...
[992.48] Failsafe: I'm not the guy who's in there.
[994.48] Failsafe: He's just got into FPV.
[995.48] Failsafe: He's maybe flying the DJ FPV drone.
[997.48] Failsafe: But he built his first five inch.
[999.48] Failsafe: He bought it there.
[1001.48] Failsafe: And I sort of helped get it all set up.
[1004.48] Failsafe: There was an issue with it, actually.
[1006.48] Failsafe: And when I plugged it in,
[1008.48] Failsafe: we plugged it in with our smoke stopper at first because...
[1010.48] Failsafe: Well, we actually helped one at the time.
[1012.48] Failsafe: So we plugged it in and it kept tripping all the time.
[1015.48] Failsafe: Just tripping the smoke stopper.
[1017.48] Failsafe: And we were like, oh, man, this is me.
[1022.48] Failsafe: With the...
[1023.48] Failsafe: Well, we were inspecting the quantum everything.
[1025.48] Failsafe: We did some checks on it.
[1026.48] Failsafe: We were checking the lipo pads on the ESC.
[1028.48] Failsafe: Checking continuity between things.
[1030.48] Failsafe: And it all looked to be fine.
[1032.48] Failsafe: But what the issue was is we then eventually plugged it in with the XC60.
[1037.48] Failsafe: Nothing blew up.
[1038.48] Failsafe: But the issue was is the actual motor screws.
[1041.48] Failsafe: And that's a cool thing to keep an eye out for, guys.
[1044.48] Failsafe: Anyone building quads, check your motor screws.
[1046.48] Failsafe: Because what we found is he must have used the motor screws
[1049.48] Failsafe: that came with the motors.
[1053.48] Failsafe: And, of course, super fly frames.
[1055.48] Failsafe: They have super thin arms.
[1057.48] Failsafe: Not like apex frames.
[1058.48] Failsafe: They've got massive, chunky arms.
[1059.48] Failsafe: So it was actually touching the motor windings.
[1061.48] Failsafe: You're right.
[1062.48] Failsafe: And what I noticed was span it up on the bench.
[1065.48] Failsafe: Or sort of not on the bench, but we were at the spot.
[1067.48] Failsafe: We spanned up the motors without props on.
[1069.48] Failsafe: And you can notice the whole stack screws.
[1071.48] Failsafe: The whole stack screws.
[1072.48] Failsafe: The bottom plate screws.
[1073.48] Failsafe: The motor screws.
[1074.48] Failsafe: Everything on the frame just got hot.
[1076.48] Failsafe: So, yeah, it's always important to check that.
[1079.48] Failsafe: You know, if your smoke stop is going off
[1082.48] Failsafe: and you're not too sure, there's not an obvious short,
[1084.48] Failsafe: always check to see, you know, are things getting hot,
[1086.48] Failsafe: which they aren't supposed to be, before you go flying.
[1088.48] Failsafe: And that's kind of what we identified.
[1090.48] Failsafe: So we swapped out all the motor screws with some thinner ones.
[1093.48] Failsafe: Which, yeah.
[1094.48] Failsafe: Even, like, there's been checking them.
[1096.48] Failsafe: They were close to the motor winds.
[1097.48] Failsafe: But, you know, I didn't see any touching them.
[1099.48] Failsafe: But, yeah, they apparently were.
[1100.48] Failsafe: So, yeah, always check that, guys.
[1103.48] Failsafe: We're doing quad builds.
[1104.48] Failsafe: And, obviously, we replaced the motor screws and all the motors.
[1107.48] Failsafe: We plugged the lipo in.
[1109.48] Failsafe: We plugged it even in with the smoke stop.
[1110.48] Failsafe: And it was absolutely fine.
[1111.48] Failsafe: No issue at all.
[1112.48] Failsafe: So, always worth considering when you're building quads.
[1116.48] Failsafe: And, yeah, he flew his first packs with his new quad.
[1119.48] Failsafe: I think he's got DJO3 or something on his first build,
[1122.48] Failsafe: which is pretty mad.
[1123.48] Failsafe: And I flew it as well.
[1124.48] Failsafe: And I was, like, pretty impressed.
[1126.48] Failsafe: Can I lie?
[1127.48] Failsafe: They're really good.
[1128.48] Failsafe: Flying that spot.
[1129.48] Failsafe: And then, yeah, we went...
[1130.48] Failsafe: Oh, yeah.
[1131.48] Failsafe: What did we go?
[1132.48] Failsafe: We went to this other spot afterwards, after the current grinder,
[1135.48] Failsafe: with me and my friend Archie, who's put me in this chat.
[1138.48] Failsafe: We went to another spot.
[1139.48] Failsafe: And fly one pack because we ran out of lipos by that time.
[1142.48] Failsafe: So we flew that spot.
[1143.48] Failsafe: And then we wanted to get some food.
[1145.48] Failsafe: And let's get rid of them.
[1147.48] Failsafe: But went into his car park to get McDonald's.
[1150.48] Failsafe: And they charged seven quid.
[1152.48] Failsafe: And we were there for, like, 20 minutes.
[1154.48] Failsafe: Seven quid of parking.
[1155.48] Failsafe: Seven quid of parking.
[1156.48] Failsafe: Just to park his McDonald's.
[1158.48] Failsafe: Or park park to get McDonald's.
[1160.48] Failsafe: And he got home.
[1161.48] Failsafe: But, yeah, overall, really good weekend.
[1163.48] Failsafe: And, yeah, it was great to meet up with all the guys again.
[1166.48] Failsafe: Alpha Charlie, FPV, Sync FPV was there as well.
[1169.48] Failsafe: Any of the audience have seen Sync's videos.
[1171.48] Failsafe: But he's released a new video flying the spot as well.
[1174.48] Failsafe: So definitely worth checking him out on Alpha Charlie
[1176.48] Failsafe: and the rest of the guys as well.
[1178.48] Failsafe: Luke FPV.
[1179.48] Failsafe: Really good.
[1180.48] Failsafe: And, yeah, that was a really good time.
[1182.48] Failsafe: We also flew the new walks.
[1185.48] Failsafe: No, these aren't the new walks.
[1187.48] Failsafe: These are the original ones.
[1188.48] Failsafe: But here I'm holding up the goggles.
[1192.48] Failsafe: There's been a lot of debate about these new goggles
[1194.48] Failsafe: in the Facebook groups.
[1195.48] Failsafe: But, yeah, flew the new firmware as well.
[1198.48] Failsafe: The new what?
[1200.48] Failsafe: Firmware with the race mode as well.
[1201.48] Failsafe: So if you guys have heard of race mode.
[1203.48] Failsafe: But, yeah, so flew that.
[1205.48] Failsafe: It's pretty good.
[1206.48] Failsafe: The quality, obviously, it's 540p.
[1208.48] Failsafe: So it's not as...
[1211.48] Stephen: Not 225 milliwatts, isn't it?
[1213.48] Failsafe: I think it can do the full mount, actually.
[1218.48] Failsafe: I think I did work it up there.
[1220.48] Failsafe: Sorry, we only flew 25 milliwatts.
[1223.48] Failsafe: But, yeah, so it did fly.
[1225.48] Failsafe: And it was really good.
[1226.48] Failsafe: It was latency is a bit more consistent,
[1228.48] Failsafe: like you'd expect.
[1229.48] Failsafe: The quality is worse.
[1231.48] Failsafe: Not too sure about the penetration.
[1232.48] Failsafe: But overall, I was pretty impressed
[1233.48] Failsafe: with how the whole system performed overall at that spot.
[1237.48] Failsafe: Nice one.
[1238.48] Failsafe: Yeah.
[1239.48] Stephen: Good catch on the motor winding screws.
[1241.48] Stephen: I remember that Bardwell always used to bang on about that.
[1245.48] Stephen: Every single Q&A or show is always,
[1247.48] Stephen: oh, check the screws aren't too long
[1248.48] Stephen: and hitting the motor winding.
[1249.48] Stephen: And I'm like, yeah, sure.
[1251.48] Stephen: Like, everyone is going to notice
[1253.48] Stephen: if they've got a screw that's like 3 milliwatts
[1256.48] Stephen: sticking out like some spearhead.
[1258.48] Stephen: I've never seen it myself.
[1260.48] Stephen: That's the first time I've heard about it.
[1262.48] Stephen: That's incredible.
[1263.48] Curry: I've had several review builds with it.
[1265.48] Curry: And the...
[1266.48] Curry: Really?
[1267.48] Curry: One of the ways you can...
[1268.48] Curry: Oh, yeah.
[1269.48] Curry: And if you just fly with it,
[1271.48] Curry: unpredictable things happen.
[1273.48] Curry: Like, I remember flying along with this thing
[1275.48] Curry: and I'm looking at the OSD
[1277.48] Curry: and it's like something like a 3S 4S quad.
[1280.48] Curry: And suddenly the volts go up to like 36 volts
[1282.48] Curry: and it sort of spins out of the air.
[1284.48] Curry: It's like, oh, that's weird.
[1286.48] Curry: What's going on?
[1287.48] Curry: Wow.
[1288.48] Curry: And what we've taken it is to check the carbon frames
[1291.48] Curry: against the ESC solar pads.
[1294.48] Curry: If you get continuity there,
[1297.48] Curry: that's a surefire thing that one of your screws
[1300.48] Curry: is touching the windings.
[1302.48] Failsafe: Well, I even did that.
[1303.48] Failsafe: I even did that as well.
[1305.48] Failsafe: I touched the...
[1306.48] Failsafe: I had the multimeter in continuity mode,
[1308.48] Failsafe: touched the frame,
[1309.48] Failsafe: touched the negative terminal on the ESC,
[1312.48] Failsafe: and it wasn't shorting out.
[1313.48] Failsafe: So I don't know if I was just doing that correctly
[1315.48] Failsafe: or the multimeter was a bit crap, but...
[1317.48] Failsafe: You've got to really poke that multimeter in there.
[1319.48] Curry: You've got to really poke it in there to get the...
[1322.48] Stephen: There are some pads where you won't get through the resin
[1325.48] Stephen: on the frames.
[1326.48] Stephen: You might just scratch it a bit with the tip and things.
[1328.48] Failsafe: I can see someone in the chat saying,
[1330.48] Failsafe: why use motor screws when you can use hot glue?
[1333.48] Failsafe: And that leads me on to my next tip of the day, guys,
[1336.48] Failsafe: for all you quad pilots.
[1337.48] Stephen: I was just going to comment on Curry's,
[1339.48] Stephen: like he's getting this on ready-to-fly builds.
[1341.48] Stephen: That's got to be an instant black mark
[1343.48] Stephen: for any manufacturer that sends you a build with ready-to-fly
[1347.48] Stephen: where the manufacturer has used the wrong motor screws
[1350.48] Stephen: because that is telling you right away
[1352.48] Stephen: they haven't even bothered to fly it.
[1354.48] Stephen: They've just sent it to you.
[1355.48] Curry: This is a fair few years ago
[1357.48] Curry: when they started coming out on the market,
[1359.48] Curry: and much of it was then is like, you've bought this quad.
[1363.48] Curry: Let's show you all the things wrong with it
[1365.48] Curry: so you will get it to fly.
[1366.48] Curry: It wasn't so much a review as like,
[1368.48] Curry: I've got this bag of stuff.
[1370.48] Curry: Why is it not working?
[1371.48] Curry: Here's what you have to do and change it
[1373.48] Curry: and it might fly afterwards.
[1375.48] Curry: But yeah, it's happened more than once,
[1377.48] Curry: at least three times we've had that.
[1379.48] Stephen: Anyway, Feelsafe, you're saying on the topic of hot glue.
[1382.48] Stephen: Yes.
[1383.48] Failsafe: So I noticed Flips has mentioned about hot glue
[1385.48] Failsafe: and I also learned another tip over the weekend
[1388.48] Failsafe: because this spot,
[1389.48] Failsafe: it had dust everywhere on the ground
[1391.48] Failsafe: where we're landing anyways.
[1392.48] Failsafe: And I'm pretty sure some of it was magnetic
[1394.48] Failsafe: because I went and landed in this same spot.
[1397.48] Failsafe: A lot of it was diseased now.
[1398.48] Failsafe: Well, probably, but we don't need to do that.
[1400.48] Failsafe: I landed in the same spot every single time
[1403.48] Failsafe: I got my motor just stuck.
[1405.48] Failsafe: You literally couldn't turn it.
[1407.48] Failsafe: There was dust everywhere.
[1408.48] Failsafe: So that leads us on to the next tip of the day.
[1411.48] Failsafe: And that is hot glue.
[1412.48] Failsafe: Now, Alpha Charlie, another guy came.
[1415.48] Failsafe: He bought and he recommends bringing a hot glue stick
[1419.48] Failsafe: and he had a lighter as well.
[1420.48] Failsafe: Now, you could probably imagine you can also get a glue gun,
[1424.48] Failsafe: which has an XC60, I think, I'm Antec.
[1426.48] Failsafe: But yeah, a cool tip for you guys who have dust in your motors
[1430.48] Failsafe: and things like that.
[1431.48] Failsafe: You can use Bluetooth obviously to get out.
[1433.48] Failsafe: But another tip as well is you can use hot glue.
[1435.48] Failsafe: So if you just squirt a load of hot glue in the motor
[1437.48] Failsafe: and obviously hot glue stays pretty, you know, sticks together
[1441.48] Failsafe: and you can easily then peel it all off
[1443.48] Failsafe: and it would just peel off all the dirt with you.
[1445.48] Failsafe: Wow.
[1446.48] Failsafe: That's another cool tip.
[1447.48] Failsafe: Awesome.
[1448.48] Failsafe: For removing dust or, you know, magnetic bits
[1452.48] Failsafe: or something from your motors.
[1454.48] Failsafe: It's hot glue.
[1455.48] Failsafe: That's another tip.
[1456.48] Failsafe: Now, where is that spot I just said, I heard someone say,
[1459.48] Failsafe: it's near Canterbury in Kent in the UK.
[1463.48] Failsafe: Yeah, it's pretty near there.
[1466.48] Curry: Another tip is to use a lending mat instead of the lending in the dust.
[1470.48] Failsafe: Yeah.
[1471.48] UNKNOWN: Yeah.
[1472.48] Curry: Yeah.
[1473.48] Stephen: Just catch them.
[1475.48] Stephen: You just like lob it at your head and you cut power
[1478.48] Stephen: and take the goggles off and catch it.
[1480.48] Stephen: Yeah.
[1481.48] Stephen: Works every time.
[1483.48] Failsafe: About the new goggles.
[1485.48] Failsafe: I don't know if there's been so much,
[1487.48] Failsafe: I should put a post out on the Walkstyle Discord today
[1489.48] Failsafe: and all the people have got some pretty wild speculation
[1493.48] Failsafe: as to what the new Walkstyle goggles are going to be like.
[1495.48] Failsafe: I'm just going to share my screen quickly.
[1497.48] Failsafe: I'll quickly show you the latest post in the Walkstyle Discord.
[1500.48] Stephen: Is there a box couple with VRX strapped onto it by any chance?
[1503.48] Failsafe: Okay.
[1505.48] Failsafe: Yeah.
[1506.48] Failsafe: Some people think the Walkstyle goggles are going to be like that.
[1509.48] Failsafe: I don't know why.
[1511.48] UNKNOWN: Special.
[1512.48] Failsafe: But yeah, there's been a lot of speculation.
[1515.48] Failsafe: I put a post out today in there
[1518.48] Failsafe: because there's been so many people asking about these goggles
[1521.48] Failsafe: with speculation.
[1524.48] Failsafe: I'm just saying, should we be deleting
[1527.48] Failsafe: any just repetitive people are just asking the same question
[1531.48] Failsafe: because it's just nonstop.
[1533.48] Failsafe: These goggles, what's all this?
[1535.48] Stephen: If I remember correctly, they came with a strap line of all in one.
[1539.48] Stephen: That was all it said.
[1540.48] Stephen: There was a big X and then it said all in one.
[1543.48] Failsafe: Yes, yes.
[1545.48] Failsafe: So it's quite...
[1550.48] Failsafe: It's going to be interesting.
[1551.48] Failsafe: It's definitely going to be interesting.
[1552.48] Stephen: It's going to be like the goggles and there's like a strap.
[1555.48] Stephen: So you can put the quad on top of your head
[1557.48] Stephen: and just then strap it under your chin
[1560.48] Stephen: and it'll make you up to half a stone lighter,
[1563.48] Stephen: which is good because we're coming up to the Christmas period.
[1567.48] Stephen: Everyone's eating a bit too much.
[1569.48] Stephen: So you go through Christmas, you go into January
[1571.48] Stephen: and the first thing you do is you put on the new Walkstyle goggles
[1574.48] Stephen: and you strap the quad onto the head all in one.
[1577.48] Stephen: You can see where you're going through the quad
[1579.48] Stephen: and you can just rev it up and feel lighter.
[1581.48] Stephen: For three minutes at a time.
[1587.48] Stephen: It could happen.
[1590.69] Stephen: Cool.
[1591.69] Stephen: Anyway.
[1592.69] Stephen: Yeah, it'd be interesting to see how that pans out.
[1594.69] Stephen: It's nice to see that they're not standing still.
[1596.69] Stephen: That's the main thing.
[1597.69] Stephen: I think a lot of manufacturers, you worry, like with DJI,
[1600.69] Stephen: that they don't really communicate.
[1602.69] Stephen: There's no incremental updates.
[1603.69] Stephen: They just disappear and then they're like,
[1606.69] Stephen: it's two years later, you're going to like this.
[1609.69] Stephen: And like...
[1610.69] Stephen: Boom!
[1612.69] Stephen: Yeah.
[1613.69] Stephen: So I was flying.
[1614.69] Stephen: I've also represent UK frame manufacturers.
[1617.69] Stephen: There's Superflyer's sync mode there.
[1619.69] Stephen: None more yellow.
[1623.69] Stephen: And I was flying this and it's got the 03 there.
[1626.69] Stephen: I've managed to wedge a GPS on as well.
[1629.69] Stephen: It's a nice build.
[1630.69] Stephen: It flies beautifully.
[1631.69] Stephen: But yeah, I do feel a little bit dirty when I'm flying the 03.
[1638.69] Stephen: It does a lot of things,
[1639.69] Stephen: but it's just a little bit...
[1642.69] Stephen: Like I know I'm compromising on some kind of ethical stance
[1645.69] Stephen: when I fly that stuff, you know?
[1649.69] Failsafe: Here's Alfred Charlie in the chat.
[1651.69] Failsafe: Hey, Alfred Charlie.
[1652.69] Failsafe: Just speaking about you earlier.
[1654.69] Failsafe: Yeah.
[1656.69] Stephen: It can be a spinal tap reference.
[1658.69] Stephen: Yeah.
[1659.69] Stephen: Yeah.
[1660.69] Stephen: Spinal tap roll.
[1661.69] Stephen: None more yellow.
[1662.69] Stephen: Yeah.
[1663.69] Stephen: Apparently that's also a Holt Blackheese color,
[1666.69] Stephen: but I love a bit of yellow myself.
[1669.69] Curry: We haven't noticed.
[1671.69] Stephen: Yeah.
[1673.69] Stephen: Actually, I've got Failsafe's little Mexican motors on that as well,
[1678.69] Stephen: giving them a good home.
[1679.69] Stephen: Yes.
[1680.69] Stephen: So extra yellow.
[1682.69] Stephen: Extra yellow.
[1683.69] Curry: You can feel double dodgy about that.
[1687.69] Curry: That whole build.
[1688.69] Curry: It's like it's got an 03 filled dirt.
[1689.69] Curry: It's got those Mexican...
[1691.69] Stephen: Mexican, the choice of the social media influencer.
[1695.69] Failsafe: Oh, God.
[1696.69] Failsafe: Guys, have you seen, has anyone seen the Mapsking videos?
[1699.69] Failsafe: They're all videos they did.
[1700.69] Failsafe: That one I know.
[1701.69] Failsafe: It was the most cringiest videos you'll ever see in FPV.
[1705.69] Stephen: Did they make them or is it just like an AI kind of compilation?
[1709.69] Failsafe: They made them...
[1710.69] Failsafe: They were so weird.
[1711.69] Failsafe: They made them themselves.
[1714.69] Failsafe: I would play one.
[1716.69] Failsafe: Yeah.
[1717.69] Failsafe: They made them themselves.
[1718.69] Stephen: So the last thing we want is a lawsuit from Mapsking.
[1720.69] Stephen: We don't need that.
[1721.69] Failsafe: Yes, there's not.
[1722.69] Failsafe: Yeah.
[1723.69] Failsafe: We'll leave it there.
[1724.69] Failsafe: Go over to the Mapsking Instagram and check out some of the older videos they did.
[1728.69] Failsafe: Yeah.
[1729.69] Failsafe: It'd be funny.
[1730.69] Curry: If they're starting to make content themselves, it's ripping up other people's stuff, then
[1734.69] Curry: that's a step in the right direction.
[1736.69] Failsafe: True.
[1737.69] Failsafe: They did.
[1738.69] Failsafe: Well, I've seen some posts they put on their website that literally copied straight from
[1744.33] Failsafe: Oscar Liang, I thought it was, whatever, website.
[1746.69] Failsafe: Yeah.
[1747.69] Failsafe: They're actually copying foreign posts from another website to a different one, to theirs.
[1752.69] Failsafe: And that's all trying to claim their own.
[1753.69] Failsafe: But yeah.
[1754.69] Failsafe: Shout out to Viktroid FPV.
[1755.69] Stephen: He's got a website and he actually itemized all the source articles and the stuff that
[1761.81] Stephen: Mapsking released that was just a copy of the source articles.
[1764.69] Stephen: And he was like, yeah, that's the source.
[1767.09] Stephen: That's what they've released.
[1768.45] Stephen: That's the source.
[1769.45] Stephen: That's what they've released.
[1770.45] Stephen: And it's like one to one.
[1771.45] Stephen: They've just copied and pasted.
[1772.45] Stephen: It's hilarious.
[1773.45] Stephen: There's some they like.
[1775.29] Stephen: They went so far as to take the source, run it through an auto translator and then release
[1779.41] Stephen: it.
[1780.41] Stephen: Like easily identifiable.
[1782.81] Stephen: But that's a vast bulk of them were just English language articles they found somewhere else
[1787.85] Stephen: that they released onto their own name and that they attributed to members of their staff
[1791.77] Stephen: as well, which was quite mind blowing.
[1794.73] Stephen: And then they went back and said, oh, yeah, asterisk, like two months later, by the way,
[1800.41] Stephen: oh, this is by someone else.
[1803.13] Stephen: Thank you.
[1804.13] Stephen: A disclaimer, legal notice, any views expressed by any guests on this show or indeed ourselves,
[1809.77] Stephen: are personal and may not reflect the views of others.
[1814.61] Curry: Yes, Jack has suddenly turned up in the chat and you may be being sued any moment.
[1819.45] Curry: So we'll pop that up there.
[1822.05] Stephen: He gets like a twinge in his bones.
[1824.45] Stephen: He feels he feels a legal issue coming.
[1827.25] Stephen: Well, anyway, so so lovely to fly it.
[1830.53] Stephen: I must say this thing flies like just it flies like it's on rails.
[1835.21] Stephen: It's beautiful.
[1836.21] Stephen: He's got a tune for this.
[1838.37] Stephen: And ordinarily, the manufacturer tunes don't work out so good.
[1842.41] Stephen: But this one, I just dumped it right in and went out ripped around the park and it's silk.
[1848.65] Stephen: It is silky smooth.
[1849.65] Stephen: I know it's like a big quad for you.
[1852.09] Stephen: Is that five inches?
[1853.09] Stephen: This is this is the first time, Curry, that I have built a 30 by 30 stat quad.
[1859.61] Stephen: Oh, my God.
[1861.73] Stephen: I finally joined the rest of the crowd, which everyone apparently has been doing since forever.
[1868.01] Stephen: It's got it's an F7 pro pro four from Sky Stars and it's got the Sky Stars AM 60, AM
[1877.77] Stephen: 32 based ESC in there.
[1880.49] Stephen: And it's like glass.
[1882.97] Stephen: It is a beautiful little bird.
[1884.81] Stephen: Yeah, looks well.
[1886.69] Failsafe: I've never heard of quads being described as like glass.
[1890.29] Failsafe: What's that?
[1891.29] Failsafe: What's that mean?
[1892.29] Failsafe: It's just smooth.
[1893.29] Failsafe: It's just smooth.
[1894.29] Stephen: It's like it was a bit there were a couple of squalls and gusts.
[1898.41] Stephen: And this this guy just slid straight through them like they weren't even there.
[1903.05] Stephen: It's really, really nice.
[1905.01] Stephen: I'm used to having to kind of fight for a tune myself.
[1907.77] Stephen: And, you know, Superfly was like, hey, try this.
[1911.61] Stephen: And I'm like, are you sure?
[1912.61] Stephen: Are you sure this is going to work?
[1914.57] Stephen: And yeah, it worked beautifully.
[1916.49] Stephen: Really.
[1917.49] Failsafe: I was just seeing someone putting a chat chat.
[1919.45] Failsafe: Max versus Emacs.
[1920.69] Failsafe: Same price point.
[1921.69] Failsafe: Oh, I've not tried either of them.
[1924.21] Failsafe: So I can't comment on that.
[1925.21] Failsafe: But the moment is.
[1926.93] Stephen: The Eco are very well respected.
[1928.89] Stephen: The Emacs Eco range.
[1930.01] Stephen: I'll take over the maps.
[1932.41] Failsafe: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[1933.41] Failsafe: The Emacs have been around for quite a while, haven't they?
[1935.25] Failsafe: And yeah, more stuff well established.
[1938.77] Stephen: And also, I think if you buy a set of four, you want to be able to buy a fifth one
[1942.65] Stephen: when you crack one up.
[1944.13] Stephen: And Emacs, you'll find anywhere.
[1947.13] Stephen: Whereas the maps, who knows?
[1949.97] Failsafe: Sorry, like these motors here, the team are 60 probies.
[1954.69] Failsafe: See, I think, well, the only motors I've really flown have been T-motor.
[1959.05] Failsafe: I did try the Emacs Eco ones.
[1962.69] Failsafe: That was back when I first started FPV.
[1965.25] Failsafe: But I've tried the T-motor Velocis.
[1968.01] Failsafe: And I've got to say, that's probably F60Vs are probably a good choice for, well,
[1974.33] Failsafe: if you've got them, if you're, they are a bit more expensive.
[1977.93] Failsafe: But they're very durable.
[1979.05] Failsafe: And a lot of people flying Bandos will go for the F60Vs.
[1983.45] Failsafe: It's my experience of that.
[1986.81] Stephen: Has anyone at your peer group tried Chris Ross' motors yet?
[1990.45] Failsafe: Well, you haven't? No.
[1993.13] Failsafe: Did we speak about Chris Ross when I was asked on there?
[1995.41] Failsafe: I don't know what did.
[1996.41] Stephen: I don't think so.
[1997.69] Failsafe: Yeah.
[1998.37] Failsafe: Like, I don't know if you guys saw all that, I don't know if you saw that post
[2002.01] Failsafe: about on Facebook saying you don't get to know.
[2004.57] Failsafe: Like, it was a bit weird that he put, it's my own opinion, by the way.
[2010.01] Failsafe: But, you know, in his video, he kind of just said, sort of said, you know,
[2014.45] Failsafe: here's the specs of the motors, you know, they've got this and this and this and this.
[2017.77] Failsafe: But then it was like, oh, don't, you don't get to know about the size of the motor.
[2021.73] Failsafe: And then on top of that, he's like, on top of that, he's like, you know,
[2027.49] Failsafe: you don't get to, you shouldn't even research or look into it.
[2030.37] Failsafe: So it's a bit odd, you know, that he's sort of saying, you know, to hold it.
[2034.41] Stephen: Have you seen about FPV talk about his motors, though?
[2039.41] Failsafe: Yeah, I've seen, yeah, he's pretty similar, I think,
[2042.49] Failsafe: in that he's not really willing to share this dimension and stuff.
[2046.05] Stephen: They've asked well-known motor manufacturers to go and make the motors for them, right?
[2050.77] Stephen: And so there's nothing magic here.
[2052.77] Stephen: What they've done is talk to a bunch of engineers and they've picked the options
[2056.77] Stephen: they want from a range of established products.
[2059.01] Stephen: They've picked the things they think are the best for their use case,
[2061.97] Stephen: for the weight of quad, for the style of flying, for the power system they want.
[2067.05] Stephen: And they've put their name on it and said,
[2069.65] Stephen: that's the optimal selection of all these different parameters.
[2073.21] Stephen: And I think the only reason that they say don't list the size out loud
[2076.97] Stephen: and don't talk about other stuff is because the instant they do that,
[2081.21] Stephen: they've had to go out on a limb and probably put some money down
[2085.85] Stephen: to get this range started.
[2088.05] Stephen: And if it becomes known as an optimal combination,
[2091.73] Stephen: then all that happens is five other manufacturers take that combination
[2096.93] Stephen: and sell it for $2 less a motor and they end up left high and dry.
[2103.33] Stephen: And maybe they put 60 or 70 hours of soldering things together and testing them
[2108.89] Stephen: and doing thrust and tests and flying it pack after pack.
[2112.13] Stephen: All that goes out the window.
[2113.21] Stephen: So I can kind of see why they'd want to.
[2115.49] Stephen: On the face fit, it's irritating.
[2117.13] Stephen: As an end user, you're like, just tell me what goes in this.
[2119.81] Stephen: Why does it have to be a secret?
[2121.53] Stephen: But the people who are using it and like it,
[2124.49] Stephen: they're going to know what size it is anyway.
[2126.73] Stephen: What that comment is really targeted at is like,
[2129.25] Stephen: don't put it on your website in giant capsules
[2133.05] Stephen: because someone will just scrape it and clone it.
[2137.33] Failsafe: Yeah, I mean, I personally think they're very interested.
[2140.13] Failsafe: I think I'm going to order a set once they come in stock in the UK.
[2143.21] Failsafe: So I'll definitely give them a go and try them out.
[2145.81] Stephen: I hope they're in yellow.
[2148.05] Failsafe: They are. They're blue and yellow, aren't they?
[2149.85] Failsafe: Oh, no, they're not.
[2151.37] Failsafe: That's why you want them to go your yellow build.
[2153.97] Stephen: Yeah, I'm shallow.
[2156.61] Failsafe: I always paint them yellow.
[2157.81] Failsafe: Does anyone have a bit on that? I don't know.
[2159.37] Stephen: Powder coating.
[2161.05] Failsafe: Oh, yeah. Yeah.
[2163.13] Failsafe: Should be possible.
[2164.05] Failsafe: They're interesting.
[2165.49] Failsafe: I'm definitely going to try them.
[2166.81] Stephen: That's what MEPS did, isn't it?
[2168.09] Stephen: So the yellow ones are just like a you normally get
[2171.89] Stephen: anodized finishes and these are just like a powder coat over.
[2176.13] Stephen: It's nothing special there.
[2178.09] Stephen: I'm sure anyone who's good at paint.
[2180.25] Failsafe: You should.
[2181.49] Failsafe: I think it would really finish that build off, though,
[2183.29] Failsafe: is if you had an LED strip around there.
[2186.21] Failsafe: Like the other LED strip around the edge.
[2188.69] Stephen: Too hot.
[2190.65] Stephen: Too hot. Yeah.
[2193.09] Stephen: What I want to do is get this quad up to about 800 grams
[2196.05] Stephen: without a GoPro Pro just by putting more and more yellow TPU and lights on it.
[2200.37] Stephen: That's what I really want.
[2202.53] Stephen: But one thing I did have a problem with is the more astute of you
[2206.33] Stephen: may have noticed that I've got the arm skid on the top of the arm
[2210.45] Stephen: because I'm using an antenna that comes with a wire that's too short
[2214.21] Stephen: to actually mount it under the arm.
[2216.37] Stephen: So I need to rethink that bit.
[2218.41] Stephen: It's a bit of a pain.
[2220.17] Stephen: But I was worried about putting the arm skid
[2222.05] Stephen: underneath the arm with the antenna holder, because I thought then
[2224.57] Stephen: if you land and you actually skid on it,
[2228.21] Stephen: then instead of the arm skid taking the brunt of the force
[2231.49] Stephen: and absorbing the impact, it's your antenna.
[2235.73] Stephen: Isn't that a bad thing?
[2237.09] Stephen: I don't know what the thinking is on that, but it struck me
[2239.85] Stephen: as a not a good thing to skid on an antenna.
[2244.57] Frank: This episode was recorded in front of a live online audience,
[2247.69] Frank: downloaded and edited to make sense when it played audio only.
[2251.21] Frank: Censored to please the iTunes people hosted on the Internet,
[2254.13] Frank: forwarded through to your podcast provider, downloaded, playing on your device
[2257.85] Frank: and is now playing in your ears.
[2259.69] Frank: All thanks to our Patreons.
[2261.89] Frank: Consider joining them and you'll also get other online benefits.
[2265.25] Frank: Find out more at patreon.com forward slash let's drone out.
[2269.89] Failsafe: OK, I've got a question for everyone in this chat.
[2273.41] Failsafe: What do you what's your thoughts on Racewire?
[2276.25] Failsafe: Do you use it for freestyle or do you just not bother?
[2278.85] Failsafe: You just like why your motors directly to your seats?
[2281.01] Failsafe: Put in the chat. No, I swear.
[2282.29] Curry: No, Racewire ever. No, Racewire.
[2284.73] Curry: I didn't know what Racewire was until like two years ago
[2287.13] Curry: when I was looking at someone's corners and what is this?
[2289.57] Curry: It looks like it's an ESC, but it's just this thing.
[2292.49] Stephen: I thought it's just it's just extra resistance.
[2294.85] Stephen: So you've got two extra solder joints that increases resistance.
[2299.41] Failsafe: Yeah, I mean, I've been thinking about as well in that if you're well,
[2302.81] Failsafe: going back to the race, the iron filing idea, you know, the carol grinder
[2306.41] Failsafe: would like iron filings and stuff getting the motors.
[2308.73] Failsafe: I think like actually maybe Racewire is not a good idea,
[2311.21] Failsafe: because if you land in what I'm finds and something gets caught or, you know,
[2313.93] Failsafe: even a little piece just gets stuck in where the Racewire is, then
[2318.25] Failsafe: it's probably, you know, it's just one more place where you can
[2321.29] Failsafe: where I could fail or where I could get cut off.
[2323.49] Stephen: You don't like cover them in some sort of like water proofing
[2327.89] Failsafe: or insulation layer than you've got to be honest.
[2329.85] Failsafe: Yeah, I don't do that, but probably should. Yeah.
[2332.89] Failsafe: That's a good suggestion.
[2334.37] Stephen: So we've got Caroline saying if the motor wires are too short, Racewire.
[2338.61] Stephen: And I did almost resort to that on this because someone
[2342.57] Stephen: someone had cut them a little bit too short, eventually.
[2346.81] Stephen: And but everyone else has
[2351.13] Stephen: said, well, one, not on a micro, not on a micro.
[2354.69] Stephen: You don't have the space, mate, just to have some race
[2358.17] Failsafe: while we play, you know, you'd have to go out of your way to fit the racewire.
[2362.01] Stephen: You'd have to actually put the racewire outside the quad
[2364.61] Stephen: because there's enough room inside the frame.
[2366.25] Stephen: So that would be odd.
[2368.21] Failsafe: Oh, I'm really considering getting a loop.
[2370.81] Failsafe: I really want to build one or get one.
[2373.17] Failsafe: I don't know what to do, though.
[2374.33] Failsafe: Like, it's always annoying with these small builds.
[2376.21] Failsafe: You've got like everything's just everything's just less
[2379.29] Failsafe: harder to find in stock, I find.
[2381.69] Failsafe: I'm not really sure what to do.
[2384.37] Curry: Dangle it connectors.
[2386.49] Curry: Hands up bullet connectors.
[2388.77] Stephen: Well, you've got like a bit of slack in there to really like let it swing.
[2393.85] Curry: Yeah, well, it's not quite held down yet.
[2396.13] Curry: This is my this is my review of a stack.
[2401.01] Curry: This is the speedy B55 amp stack.
[2403.25] Curry: And rather than put on a regular quad, I thought,
[2406.33] Curry: let's put it on something old and stupid and try and fly it.
[2410.73] Curry: So that is the modern gear on an F450.
[2414.61] Curry: Is that a flamewheel?
[2416.37] Curry: That is one of the flamewheel.
[2418.65] Stephen: Yeah, well, they like 1806 with ludicrous size propellers are.
[2426.37] Curry: I don't know, the 920 KV.
[2430.17] Stephen: Rip roaring, high scoring.
[2432.37] Curry: We're going to we're going to try it on four S and eight inch props.
[2437.33] Curry: I think it's very interesting.
[2439.37] Curry: And then we'll see what happens.
[2443.36] Stephen: Wow, I'm excited to see that video unabashedly flying stuff
[2447.2] Stephen: that should really be on a wing on a quad.
[2450.88] Stephen: I know it's saying I like the boat.
[2454.72] Stephen: Look at the prop nuts.
[2455.68] Stephen: The prop nuts are like aerodynamic ones like you have.
[2459.68] Curry: Exactly.
[2460.52] Curry: When you turn them in towards the wind, they'll they'll go faster.
[2466.0] Curry: I don't like props nuts.
[2468.44] Failsafe: Oh, I've just seen Shep put in the chat.
[2470.36] Failsafe: Hi, guys, on top.
[2471.12] Failsafe: Just finish off, put put in my latest as about XL together from drone fest.
[2476.08] Failsafe: Yeah. Anyone anyone else seen about the as well?
[2478.88] Failsafe: No frames. That's where the lineup of frames.
[2481.0] Failsafe: No, do tell us.
[2483.36] Failsafe: Right. I think we're going to grab on now.
[2487.68] Stephen: There look and types into Google.
[2497.06] Stephen: Is this that he loves quads?
[2498.78] Failsafe: That's it. Yeah, that he loves quads.
[2502.82] Stephen: And I think I've I've got it.
[2504.78] Stephen: I've got it. Got two things.
[2508.67] Stephen: So we have here.
[2510.87] Stephen: It looks like a kind of toothpick style frame.
[2513.75] Failsafe: That's it. Yeah.
[2515.83] Failsafe: So it's kind of designed.
[2517.51] Failsafe: It's designed by a friend of mine, member FPV.
[2521.11] Failsafe: And also, I've got his name.
[2524.55] Failsafe: Damn it. It's that he loves calls himself a member of sort of designed it.
[2529.27] Failsafe: And it's sort of designed to be more like a toothpick.
[2532.55] Failsafe: But it's the frame.
[2534.47] Failsafe: The whole arm thickness is like five.
[2536.31] Failsafe: That is very thick.
[2537.31] Failsafe: Which is kind of ridiculous.
[2538.47] Curry: Yeah, it looks almost as thick as our lungs.
[2541.23] Stephen: Yeah, the arms are thicker than they are wide, which is, you know,
[2547.59] Stephen: that the arm width is maybe three mil,
[2550.07] Stephen: but it looks like they're five mil deep side to side is from top to bottom.
[2554.83] Failsafe: You know, yeah, it's designed to be sort of toothpicks,
[2557.19] Failsafe: but super durable really is the whole sort of thing for them.
[2560.75] Failsafe: Wow. I'm going to quickly show my screen, guys, and just quickly show you.
[2564.27] Failsafe: Yeah. Yeah, yeah.
[2565.47] Failsafe: Builds that someone's done with it, which I think is just amazing.
[2568.67] Failsafe: This is by Mickey FPV.
[2570.03] Failsafe: Here we go. I'm sharing my screen now.
[2571.91] Stephen: Oh, that looks that looks very different.
[2573.95] Failsafe: What's going on? This is by Mickey FPV.
[2575.47] Failsafe: And this is the ASBO. I think it's the Excel.
[2577.87] Failsafe: So they've got a full AIO in there.
[2580.19] Failsafe: He's done like a nice stormtrooper thing on there.
[2584.47] Failsafe: It's just got a cool FPV cycle motors.
[2586.51] Stephen: I've got that battery.
[2587.99] Stephen: That's like a GMB 720.
[2591.03] Failsafe: That's the four S version.
[2593.35] Failsafe: And a really cool build.
[2595.31] Failsafe: And yeah, that's what they're all going for is sort of durable.
[2599.79] Stephen: Well, what size is that frame then?
[2601.87] Stephen: Because there's there's a 720 battery,
[2604.15] Stephen: but that looks like a five inch type of setup.
[2607.23] Failsafe: It's a free.
[2608.35] Failsafe: I think it's a three point five inch.
[2609.83] Failsafe: I'm pretty sure. OK, it's not a bit.
[2611.99] Failsafe: Yeah, he's done a lot of prints.
[2614.11] Failsafe: Got DJI free in there as well.
[2616.35] Stephen: That's never going to be sub 250, is it?
[2619.07] Failsafe: I don't think it is. No.
[2622.31] Stephen: I get a bit confused with the three and a half inch builds.
[2624.91] Stephen: So I like I like them when they're sub 250.
[2627.31] Stephen: But if it's like a 400 gram, three and a half inch build,
[2632.83] Stephen: I do wonder, like, OK, maybe just, you know, rock the five inch.
[2638.91] Stephen: So maybe someone can put me wrong as to like what you're using that for
[2643.59] Stephen: when it's heavier than 250.
[2645.67] Failsafe: I do give it that that is very quiet.
[2648.35] Failsafe: That is the one thing I noticed when it was flying.
[2650.23] Failsafe: It was I don't know why, but they're just super quiet and discreet, really.
[2654.75] Curry: So maybe it's maybe it's your park fly where a five inch would be too
[2657.99] Curry: leery to attract attention.
[2662.11] Stephen: Maybe because I've got three.
[2663.83] Stephen: I've got a couple of three and a half inch builds.
[2665.59] Stephen: So I've got an oh, three, three and a half inch that's sub 250.
[2670.83] Stephen: And I've got one with the walk snail kind of pro camera thing
[2676.31] Stephen: that's a bit more robust using the AOS frame that's also sub 250.
[2683.11] Stephen: But maybe I maybe some people just like having a bit more TPU
[2687.39] Stephen: to make them a bit more crash resistant, because I've got to admit they are fragile.
[2691.67] Failsafe: Yeah, like I could definitely do some more TPU right now.
[2694.51] Failsafe: Like my antenna is it's just like you know, I've done this before.
[2700.55] Failsafe: I've done a math before and I've just it just impact that
[2704.63] Failsafe: and it just hits the carbon.
[2705.91] Failsafe: It just completely cracks.
[2707.99] Failsafe: But oh, well, definitely could do with some TPU.
[2711.27] Failsafe: I need to get my printer working.
[2712.71] Stephen: You need like some kind of butt skid, I think, for the moves that you do feel safe
[2717.35] Stephen: because most people assume the impacts coming at the front,
[2720.31] Stephen: whereas you are generally seeming to be going backwards
[2723.47] Stephen: at 60 or 70 miles an hour when you hit stuff.
[2726.47] Stephen: So maybe like some kind of rear bumper.
[2729.75] Failsafe: Yeah, yeah.
[2731.19] Failsafe: So but I've just ever since been working, I've just not been printing at all.
[2738.79] Failsafe: I'm really, my printer's been broken and I've got a Voron as well.
[2742.95] Failsafe: So the Voron can be a bit of a pain sometimes, especially with TPU.
[2746.39] Failsafe: I've just had it just constantly stringing all the time.
[2749.31] Failsafe: I don't know.
[2749.59] Failsafe: It's because I've got like the high flow hot end in there.
[2752.19] Failsafe: Or just probably just needs to tune a bit more.
[2753.99] Stephen: But yeah, I've got to say, you sold me this one that's just out of shock there
[2758.79] Stephen: and it's absolutely beautiful on TPU.
[2762.31] Stephen: I'm sorry to take that off your hands.
[2764.11] Stephen: Like I've absolutely ragged it over 100 milliseconds.
[2768.15] Stephen: Yeah, it'll do over 10 centimeters a second on TPU.
[2772.27] Stephen: It's a machine, just the beast throws it out.
[2777.03] Failsafe: By end of freeze, like in pieces, because I took it apart wanting to convert it
[2780.71] Failsafe: into what's called a switch wire, which is basically an end of free.
[2783.99] Failsafe: But it's modified to print like a lot faster by the Voron.
[2788.31] Failsafe: It's a Voron basically designed to print faster.
[2791.91] Failsafe: So that's in pieces right now.
[2793.63] Failsafe: And then my other printer, which is CR-10 S4, which is like a massive.
[2797.35] Failsafe: We're talking this big, you know, this build plate.
[2800.19] Failsafe: It's insane, but it's just too big with TPU.
[2804.07] Stephen: You need because when you're printing TPU, you're not printing something
[2807.71] Stephen: that's a foot square, you're printing something that's like 10 centimeters.
[2810.75] Failsafe: But the Voron you've got is the 0.1.
[2813.87] Failsafe: It's just you can fit.
[2815.23] Stephen: You get less rigging.
[2816.55] Stephen: You could run the head really fast without rigging.
[2819.39] Stephen: And you've got much less distance for the filament to go from like the drying box.
[2824.27] Stephen: I even had before that, I had a mini, a Monoprice Mini Delta,
[2828.83] Stephen: which was a Bowden one.
[2831.07] Stephen: And people say, oh, you can't print TPU with a Bowden.
[2833.87] Stephen: Well, you can if it's small enough, because the distance that it goes
[2837.31] Stephen: from pushing the filament to the hot end is actually short enough
[2840.79] Stephen: that the filament doesn't all squidge up.
[2842.51] Stephen: They just it's if it's a short enough distance, then pushing it
[2845.91] Stephen: into the hot end works just fine.
[2847.71] Stephen: It's a really long distance.
[2848.83] Stephen: Then it all sort of compresses and gets snagged up.
[2851.07] Stephen: But if it's small enough, printer, it's OK.
[2854.55] Failsafe: Yeah, I just sort of agree in the chat.
[2859.23] Failsafe: Numpsquoitz says, I just put a new hot end on my printer.
[2862.11] Failsafe: Went for the Creality sprite.
[2863.59] Failsafe: I've not heard of Creality Spark.
[2864.87] Failsafe: I'm going to put it on up.
[2866.71] Stephen: Hmm. Yeah, I've got the Ender 3D.
[2871.31] Failsafe: Creality sprite.
[2872.15] Failsafe: OK, that's the hot end itself.
[2873.71] Failsafe: That's like the whole hot end assembly.
[2874.83] Failsafe: I thought it was like a printer.
[2876.15] Failsafe: But no, that's just a hot end assembly.
[2877.59] Failsafe: That's pretty cool. You can get that.
[2878.79] Failsafe: You can buy it separately as well.
[2879.79] Failsafe: So if you've got an existing Creality printer, whack that on it.
[2883.03] Failsafe: And yeah, it's pretty cool.
[2885.47] Failsafe: I didn't realize that was a thing.
[2887.39] Failsafe: And a lot of people, I thought a lot of people
[2889.07] Failsafe: were rating their bamboo labs printers as well now.
[2891.79] Failsafe: I've not obviously not tried one, but they do.
[2894.67] Failsafe: They look very fine.
[2896.11] Failsafe: I think actually one of the engineers, lead engineers,
[2898.63] Failsafe: is working from DJI or something.
[2900.47] Failsafe: I seem to have heard.
[2902.15] Failsafe: So, yeah, they look really well for our printers.
[2905.35] Failsafe: Yeah, a lot of people saying about the Ender 3S1
[2909.59] Failsafe: in the chat as well. In the 3S1, yes.
[2911.55] Failsafe: Yeah, I've heard good things about that one as well.
[2913.83] Stephen: Yes, I can't remember.
[2914.99] Stephen: Well, you got the original hot end
[2916.95] Stephen: and I basically had to replace the coil on it.
[2919.03] Stephen: So you probably know the exact part number.
[2920.75] Stephen: I bought failsafe's printer
[2922.35] Stephen: and he foolishly decided he didn't need a vore,
[2924.35] Stephen: an end of vore, or a naught point one.
[2926.15] Stephen: It turns out the vore, a naught point one,
[2927.51] Stephen: was really good for doing TPU.
[2929.55] Stephen: I feel slightly guilty now, but yeah, it works the treat.
[2934.95] Stephen: He sold me the thing with the,
[2936.47] Stephen: had an Ender 3D hot end in it that was quite nice.
[2938.91] Stephen: I think I must have, I was trying to calibrate it
[2940.83] Stephen: and I think I must have left it on too long
[2942.43] Stephen: and I burned out the coil, so I had to swap the coil over
[2945.55] Stephen: and fart around with the wiring a wee bit,
[2947.95] Stephen: but it works really well.
[2950.83] Stephen: I can't remember the exact name of the hot end now.
[2952.95] Stephen: It's some upgraded hot end, isn't it, from Creality,
[2955.63] Stephen: that they sell as an aftermarket kit.
[2958.67] Failsafe: Yeah, the, is it, what part of the, what's it called?
[2963.55] Failsafe: E3D Hummera or not Hummera.
[2965.51] Failsafe: The actual thing like, it comes with your printer.
[2969.03] Stephen: Revo, the Revo outfit, yeah.
[2973.19] Failsafe: Yeah, it's very cool what they're doing.
[2975.63] Failsafe: It's just super convenient to have that whole hot end
[2978.43] Failsafe: also with the heat break as well,
[2980.15] Failsafe: so that you don't really have any risk
[2982.63] Failsafe: of any plastic or TPU getting stuck
[2986.71] Failsafe: sort of midway through the,
[2988.59] Stephen: you can just dismantle the whole hot end.
[2990.47] Stephen: So on my previous one, it would get jammed up
[2992.79] Stephen: and you just have to try and shove more filament down
[2995.31] Stephen: until you got a bit of burnt crap
[2997.39] Stephen: that shot out the other end
[2998.55] Stephen: and there was no other way to really do it.
[3000.71] Stephen: Whereas this, you can just dismantle it and clean it.
[3003.07] Failsafe: Just like, let's free, let's free the print out.
[3005.71] Failsafe: Yeah.
[3008.47] Failsafe: What, Carrie, what printers have you got?
[3010.51] Failsafe: What printers are you using?
[3012.43] Curry: I have currently got a Creality,
[3018.35] Curry: oh, I forgot what it's called now.
[3021.31] Curry: Something, something.
[3022.87] Curry: It looks like.
[3024.07] Failsafe: End or something, isn't it?
[3024.91] Failsafe: It's one of those, it's a fast and close one,
[3026.67] Failsafe: I think I saw.
[3027.55] Curry: Yeah, there it is, over there.
[3029.39] Curry: It's hiding behind us.
[3030.71] Curry: It's something, if I just search my own review on it,
[3034.27] Curry: then I'll be able to do it.
[3035.11] Stephen: That's the one that comes with its own app
[3036.19] Stephen: and Lord knows what, isn't it?
[3038.51] Stephen: Yeah, the Samoon B1 Pro is called,
[3043.23] Curry: which works pretty well.
[3044.07] Curry: It hasn't got a big build plate.
[3045.47] Curry: It's like 175 mil each way,
[3048.11] Curry: but I do find that most of the stuff we tend to print
[3052.27] Curry: is perfectly good for that.
[3053.35] Curry: And I've been printing various things this week,
[3058.27] Curry: like this impressive shelf that I did,
[3060.43] Curry: which isn't quite as impressive as a rectangular box,
[3064.31] Curry: which I had to get a Fusion 360 app and draw a box
[3071.15] Curry: and extrude the box and print it out,
[3073.19] Curry: which is for, I showed you guys this,
[3075.67] Curry: I showed the rest of the video.
[3078.95] Curry: Look at the design skills.
[3080.83] Curry: Orange box.
[3081.67] Curry: Oh, wow.
[3083.11] Curry: It makes the camera the right height.
[3087.63] Curry: You'll notice some of the high-tech stuff here,
[3089.55] Curry: like this wooden plank.
[3091.07] Stephen: Oh, that's amazing.
[3093.39] Curry: All the materials, all the engineering skills.
[3097.63] Stephen: Caroline was recommending an easy 3D X1,
[3100.31] Stephen: which looks like you can get it,
[3102.07] Stephen: but I found it for 80 quid.
[3103.35] Stephen: Apparently you should find it for 50 quid.
[3104.91] Stephen: Do you want to shove that in the camera again
[3107.23] Stephen: and talk about your little project a bit?
[3109.19] Stephen: Let's do that then.
[3110.03] Stephen: If that's not.
[3111.83] Curry: It's not quite drone stuff,
[3113.11] Curry: but what we have here is a large radio-controlled car,
[3118.47] Curry: as you might have figured out.
[3120.83] Curry: What we have here is a 4G system.
[3124.03] Curry: So 4G antenna.
[3126.07] Curry: This is a microphone.
[3128.35] Curry: This is a little box where you put your SIM card in,
[3132.51] Curry: and this attaches by these massive connectors
[3136.67] Curry: to the largest GPS known in the world,
[3140.91] Curry: and that is-
[3141.75] Stephen: Those huge brass connectors are for the GPS.
[3144.43] Stephen: They look like they should be handling
[3145.79] Stephen: high voltage for an ESC.
[3147.71] Curry: I know, there's a speaker here,
[3149.79] Stephen: so you can shout at people.
[3151.27] Stephen: You can cuss at people.
[3152.51] Stephen: Oh, perfect, so you can drive up and swear at people,
[3155.11] Stephen: and then confuse them when you drive off slowly.
[3157.23] Curry: The idea is that you have your app on the phone
[3158.15] Curry: that connects to this thing over the 4G network,
[3162.23] Curry: and you can drive around.
[3163.79] Curry: This is like a mic, so you can pick up sound.
[3168.43] Curry: This is the speaker to shout at.
[3171.03] Curry: And this is the box-
[3171.95] Stephen: Can you load it up with short circuit soundbites,
[3174.67] Stephen: like your mother is a snowblower?
[3176.87] Curry: Well, you can just talk to them,
[3178.23] Curry: or you can do a text-to-speech thing,
[3181.07] Curry: which may be handy if this flips upside down.
[3183.15] Curry: I can like, help me, help me, help me.
[3186.39] Stephen: It hurts, it hurts.
[3187.71] Failsafe: What you should do, I've seen those videos
[3189.67] Failsafe: where someone would make one of those,
[3191.95] Failsafe: and it would go into a shop,
[3193.43] Failsafe: and then buy something with it, or something or other,
[3196.15] Failsafe: and then leave the shop, like with the food.
[3198.27] Failsafe: You should try and do that,
[3199.43] Failsafe: and just do a channel and make a video out of it.
[3202.23] Stephen: Pretty sure I featured that around my neck of the woods.
[3204.23] Stephen: They just strip the car down and flog it.
[3207.75] Curry: The only problem I'm finding with this thing,
[3210.71] Curry: and I'm still waiting for my XT60 connectors to show up,
[3215.59] Curry: one on solo, take me off,
[3218.39] Curry: is that although it's like unlimited range,
[3221.95] Curry: because it's 4G, it kind of depends where you are.
[3225.39] Curry: Stephen, you're in London,
[3226.43] Curry: you've probably got excellent 4G all over the place.
[3228.71] Curry: 5G, please.
[3230.19] Curry: Exactly. 4G is for peasants.
[3231.51] Jack: 5G.
[3232.63] Curry: I, where I am right now, I am like,
[3236.23] Curry: oh, I might get edge, or 3G, but 4G is like, no.
[3241.15] Curry: And especially when you want to test it out,
[3243.51] Curry: you probably want to go, I live next to some woods,
[3245.95] Curry: you've probably seen me flying in,
[3247.07] Curry: it's got all these trails.
[3247.99] Curry: I thought, oh, that'd be really, really good
[3250.35] Curry: to do stuff with, and of course.
[3251.83] Curry: Yeah, if you're wandering around behind it
[3253.43] Stephen: with a white phone hotspot 10 meters away.
[3255.63] Stephen: No.
[3256.47] Stephen: It's fully autonomous.
[3259.79] Stephen: It can go anywhere, and you're like 20 meters behind it,
[3263.31] Stephen: waving a white phone hotspot in the air.
[3265.39] Curry: Yeah.
[3266.71] Curry: So that is the problem.
[3268.39] Curry: I need to go and find,
[3270.39] Curry: there must be some map somewhere of like 4G masts,
[3274.59] Curry: and I find one that's out in the sticks,
[3276.43] Curry: and I go and test it there.
[3278.31] Stephen: But I'm going to-
[3279.15] Stephen: But you've also put the antenna really low down,
[3281.59] Stephen: isn't that asking for trouble?
[3283.31] Stephen: Shouldn't the antenna be like on a stick
[3285.39] Stephen: a meter above the car or something?
[3287.23] Curry: No, no, because this is the way it goes.
[3290.19] Curry: It had a sticky pad there,
[3291.75] Curry: so the idea is it goes this way
[3294.95] Curry: and faces upwards for some reason.
[3299.19] Curry: Don't know why.
[3300.27] Curry: It's a bit odd.
[3301.11] Curry: That's the idea of it, that one.
[3302.27] Curry: Fair enough.
[3303.35] Curry: It's a special antenna.
[3305.59] Failsafe: You should just go to Germany,
[3306.71] Failsafe: because they pretty much,
[3307.55] Failsafe: well, when we went to the Croatia Trail,
[3309.19] Failsafe: they were going to go through Germany.
[3311.23] Failsafe: Germany was solid for connection,
[3312.91] Failsafe: just had 5G pretty much everywhere all on the route.
[3315.03] Failsafe: It's brilliant.
[3317.07] Stephen: That's because you were being trailed
[3318.35] Stephen: by a German telecom snooping van
[3320.59] Stephen: after your behavior.
[3322.23] Stephen: I'm trying to siphon off your data
[3327.86] Stephen: and see if they could get conviction.
[3330.7] Curry: But because that 4G thing looks a little,
[3334.94] Curry: I don't know, I'm going to do a 1.3 version as well,
[3337.9] Curry: and I can just put it on my other piece of wood
[3341.18] Curry: and swap my piece of wood out and put it back on.
[3343.82] Stephen: Can you not just get a better antenna?
[3345.5] Stephen: Isn't that always the answer?
[3346.78] Stephen: Just get an antenna that's like six foot tall?
[3352.92] Curry: I mean, it's a big truck, but it's not that big.
[3356.36] Stephen: It's a lot bigger than a mobile phone.
[3357.96] Failsafe: I mean, none of the work I just had is using a mobile phone.
[3361.0] Failsafe: It depends if your mobile phone gets any better single,
[3362.84] Failsafe: but stick on my phone and then make a Wi-Fi hotspot.
[3365.96] Curry: When I'm in the woods,
[3367.52] Curry: it's like there's nothing here,
[3368.64] Curry: and I need my mobile phone to drive it,
[3371.4] Curry: because that-
[3372.24] Curry: I was thinking, but when I'm in the woods,
[3374.12] Stephen: I get 5G.
[3376.52] Stephen: Of course.
[3378.16] Stephen: Try going to go to the woods around London, mate.
[3380.4] Stephen: It's fine.
[3381.24] Stephen: If you can find anywhere that's quiet enough to do anything,
[3383.16] Stephen: you'll have 5G.
[3384.0] Stephen: It's fine.
[3384.84] Stephen: Yeah, but your car's not coming back.
[3387.96] Stephen: No, no, the car's not coming back, mate.
[3389.84] Stephen: It's gone.
[3390.68] Failsafe: Jinx is saying, absolutely,
[3392.56] Failsafe: about our FFPB's in the chat.
[3393.88] Failsafe: Jinx is saying,
[3394.72] Failsafe: anyone going out flying this weekend,
[3396.16] Failsafe: I'm not at work at fail safe.
[3398.4] Failsafe: I might go out flying.
[3399.56] Failsafe: Is anyone else in the chat or anyone going out playing
[3402.64] Failsafe: and going out flying this weekend?
[3404.04] Failsafe: Let us know.
[3407.1] Stephen: Let fail safe know.
[3409.1] Stephen: He's got to gather those contacts
[3410.58] Stephen: when he gets his driving test,
[3411.86] Stephen: and he's just going to be up and down the country.
[3415.54] Stephen: He's going to be an FFPB Nomad.
[3417.94] Failsafe: The goal is to get it done by March,
[3420.26] Failsafe: and then hopefully when we go to Croatia next year,
[3422.14] Failsafe: we're to drive as well, which will be freaking amazing.
[3424.18] Failsafe: So that's the goal.
[3426.82] Failsafe: I don't know if that's the insurance
[3428.34] Failsafe: that's going to allow me to do that,
[3429.54] Failsafe: but we'll make happen.
[3433.78] Stephen: It's not too bad.
[3434.54] Stephen: So long as you're not intending to hire something,
[3436.5] Stephen: you should be all right.
[3437.7] Stephen: If you can get insured on something yourself,
[3440.14] Stephen: it's not that difficult to get by.
[3441.66] Curry: I have no idea if there's restrictions
[3443.66] Curry: about how long you've been driving or age of driver
[3447.02] Curry: when going and using like,
[3448.82] Curry: essentially an international license.
[3453.18] Stephen: I learned to drive really late,
[3454.7] Stephen: so I skipped out that whole kind of
[3457.3] Stephen: painful licensing insurance thing when you're young.
[3461.58] Stephen: I know it's difficult to get higher cars until you're 21.
[3465.06] Failsafe: I know that much.
[3466.86] Failsafe: Public transport is just the right pain.
[3469.18] Failsafe: There's train strikes everywhere.
[3471.58] Failsafe: You know, on the weekend, they do train strikes.
[3473.54] Failsafe: It's literally on a Saturday I want to go out flying,
[3475.3] Failsafe: like every time I've wanted to get on the train.
[3478.14] Failsafe: So I've just started to dodge it
[3480.14] Failsafe: and attempt to get home.
[3482.3] Stephen: And as much as I love trains,
[3483.66] Stephen: where you could always read a book when you're traveling,
[3486.62] Stephen: you don't necessarily want to go
[3488.5] Stephen: from the center of one town
[3489.66] Stephen: to the center of another town.
[3490.9] Stephen: That's not really, especially in this hobby,
[3492.82] Stephen: you want to kind of find something that's out of town.
[3496.38] Stephen: And yeah, you don't want to train and five buses.
[3499.54] Stephen: That doesn't help.
[3502.78] Failsafe: I went to my license years before I got my car license.
[3505.5] Failsafe: Yeah.
[3507.18] Failsafe: Don't have to think of my parents
[3508.02] Failsafe: who let me get a motorbike, or I don't know.
[3510.5] Failsafe: I've been on a motorbike.
[3511.34] Failsafe: I've been on, in fact, Jinx,
[3512.46] Failsafe: if you've been in the chat, I've been on his motorbike.
[3513.98] Failsafe: It's a lot of fun.
[3516.94] Curry: It's all fun until you hit a car.
[3518.58] Curry: Ask my neighbor about it, I'll tell you.
[3522.06] Stephen: Yeah.
[3522.9] Stephen: It's true.
[3524.14] Stephen: I've seen a lot of accidents in London
[3527.02] Stephen: and they've pretty much always involved
[3529.7] Stephen: someone on two wheels
[3531.26] Stephen: and someone who's not on two wheels.
[3533.86] Stephen: It's not being a car on car.
[3535.3] Stephen: It's always a car and bike, car and moped, rough.
[3539.1] Failsafe: Yeah.
[3540.9] Stephen: Yeah.
[3543.14] Stephen: Hey ho, not everyone lives in the big city.
[3545.06] Stephen: I've heard it safer outside.
[3548.94] Curry: It's beautifully safe.
[3550.58] Curry: I'm not worried at all about my car being stolen by someone.
[3553.58] Curry: More likely someone will pick it up
[3554.86] Curry: and bring it back to me.
[3555.82] Curry: So I found this wandering around.
[3557.5] Curry: I thought it was yours.
[3559.3] Stephen: But to be fair, the first time we had a car problem,
[3562.02] Stephen: it wasn't stolen, but a tramp did break into it
[3565.1] Stephen: and poop in it.
[3569.86] Stephen: My first experience of having a car in the big city.
[3574.02] Curry: Of course, you had to burn that car afterwards.
[3577.22] Curry: Obviously.
[3579.22] Stephen: Kept it, I should have cleaned it.
[3581.5] Stephen: And I think like about a month or so later,
[3585.18] Stephen: it happened again.
[3586.02] Stephen: And I'm just like, this is cursed.
[3590.38] Curry: It's like once one marks his territory
[3592.5] Curry: or the other tramps come over and poop at the same spot.
[3594.98] Stephen: It's like cats.
[3595.94] Stephen: It's terrible.
[3599.7] Stephen: Yeah.
[3600.54] Stephen: South London has got a lot to recommend it,
[3602.38] Stephen: but maybe not car parking facilities.
[3605.1] Stephen: So yes, moving into winter, we talked about whoops.
[3609.38] Stephen: Fail safe.
[3610.22] Stephen: Have you got any kind of indoor flying plans?
[3613.58] Stephen: Have you got your whoop fleet out?
[3616.18] Failsafe: I have only had, I only got a whoop when I started FPV.
[3621.26] Failsafe: In fact, that's what I started with.
[3622.74] Failsafe: I got this like, I think it was like only 35 pounds
[3625.54] Failsafe: at the time.
[3626.38] Failsafe: And it was like some E-Sheen, E010 whoop, I think it's called.
[3630.06] Failsafe: Oh yeah.
[3631.02] Failsafe: Three basic ones, lemon F3 flight controller and all that.
[3636.7] Failsafe: And yeah, I do want to do some stuff with whoops though.
[3639.14] Failsafe: I want to do some cool challenges,
[3641.38] Failsafe: make some cool TikToks and Instagram content with whoops.
[3645.74] Failsafe: So I think, you know, I think that, yeah,
[3647.7] Failsafe: in terms of like video and creative ideas,
[3651.38] Failsafe: I think you've got a lot more opportunities with whoops,
[3653.3] Failsafe: just to give our discreet they are and how quiet they are.
[3656.1] Failsafe: You know, I'm thinking how are we paying Matt Donald's,
[3658.78] Failsafe: the Matt Donald's sign, the M sign, you know?
[3661.1] Failsafe: Go with the whoop, that's just one idea.
[3663.78] Stephen: You could build like a little digital whoop
[3665.58] Stephen: with your walk snail contacts.
[3667.14] Stephen: You must have one of the 1S boards kicking around somewhere.
[3669.82] Failsafe: I've got, yeah, I've got a 1S board.
[3671.9] Failsafe: It's just mainly figuring out how I'd integrate that
[3673.98] Failsafe: into a whoop and what best to do and what side I don't need.
[3676.58] Failsafe: With wires.
[3677.58] Failsafe: It's just a lot, yeah.
[3679.26] Failsafe: I just don't know what build to put it in.
[3681.26] Failsafe: So if anyone's got any ideas, do let me know.
[3684.42] Stephen: Find something that's got an integrated receiver.
[3686.86] Stephen: So like an ELRS flight controller
[3690.3] Stephen: and then just grab the five volt or whatever.
[3692.42] Stephen: Apparently if you're on 1S, you shouldn't grab the five volt.
[3694.98] Stephen: If you're on 2S, grab the five volt line.
[3697.1] Stephen: On 1S, just grab VBAP.
[3699.38] Failsafe: Yeah, because it's got a cut out voltage
[3701.1] Failsafe: with like 2.2 volts or something, 2.3, something like that.
[3704.74] Stephen: And apparently it's quite easy to push those five volt
[3708.18] Stephen: regulators a bit too hard on 1S builds.
[3711.06] Stephen: You shouldn't do that.
[3711.9] Stephen: But on 2S, it's usually okay.
[3715.14] Stephen: That's another point.
[3715.98] Stephen: Like, are you, when you whoop, is it all 1S
[3719.54] Stephen: or are you more like 2S, YOLO, go for the moon?
[3724.5] Failsafe: I mean, I've not, I've only had a 1S whoop, I think.
[3726.86] Failsafe: I think the one I had was 1S.
[3728.42] Failsafe: I've not really got much experience in them,
[3730.3] Failsafe: but definitely you want to get into it
[3732.3] Failsafe: and get one built specifically for, you know,
[3735.78] Failsafe: there's agile that can suit the 1S board.
[3740.02] Stephen: To enable you to Matty flip McDonald's.
[3742.62] Failsafe: Yeah, yeah, exactly.
[3745.98] Failsafe: But yeah, I definitely want to get one built this winter
[3749.34] Failsafe: because it'd be really fun.
[3752.38] UNKNOWN: Yeah.
[3753.82] Stephen: Yeah, I built one with walks now
[3757.54] Stephen: on kind of an 85 mil frame.
[3759.22] Stephen: And I thought, oh yeah, this is gonna be the perfect thing.
[3761.74] Stephen: And I realized kind of how loud it was for flying indoors.
[3765.26] Stephen: That unfortunately stopped me from really getting
[3767.86] Stephen: as much mileage out of it as I thought.
[3769.54] Stephen: So I thought, oh, we'll just be able to fly it
[3770.9] Stephen: around the house and, you know, just to poof around
[3773.9] Stephen: and keep my hands in, you know, get some practice.
[3777.5] Stephen: But it's kind of a fair bit heavier than a 75 mil.
[3783.66] Stephen: And it's a fair bit noisier as well.
[3787.14] Stephen: And so while you can fly it around the park,
[3789.66] Stephen: it's not great for indoors for a UK size,
[3792.42] Stephen: typical kind of, you know, suburban house.
[3796.62] Stephen: It's, you don't really have any space to get up speed
[3799.46] Stephen: with something that's 85 mil,
[3801.02] Stephen: because it will really shift.
[3803.82] Stephen: But outdoors, it's also really easy to hit the limits
[3807.38] Stephen: of its performance.
[3808.5] Stephen: So it's kind of like not good for outdoors
[3811.34] Stephen: and not good for indoors.
[3813.54] Stephen: It's a really weird size.
[3814.9] Stephen: And I thought it would be perfect for everything,
[3816.62] Stephen: but it ended up being perfect for nothing.
[3820.44] Failsafe: I'll just share my screen in a minute.
[3821.8] Failsafe: I don't know if you can put the screen on the screen.
[3823.44] Failsafe: Oh, yeah.
[3824.28] Failsafe: It's on YouTube.
[3825.6] Failsafe: But yeah, this is Damian in the chat.
[3827.56] Failsafe: He's saying about the GEP RC Smart 16.
[3829.88] Failsafe: He bought one of these things.
[3830.84] Failsafe: Oh, yeah.
[3831.68] Failsafe: And yeah, do you remember Stephen in Croatia,
[3835.04] Failsafe: he was flying this around.
[3836.12] Failsafe: And it is tiny and it's so agile.
[3838.44] Failsafe: There you go, jinxed FPV.
[3839.88] Failsafe: Yeah, it's ridiculous how fun this looks to fly.
[3843.8] Failsafe: Yeah.
[3844.64] Failsafe: So tiny.
[3845.84] Failsafe: We're talking literally in the palm of your hand,
[3848.64] Failsafe: you can fit it.
[3850.56] Failsafe: No proper guards.
[3851.4] Failsafe: It's super agile, it's analog, which is a bit annoying.
[3854.44] Failsafe: I'd love to make a digital version of that.
[3855.92] Stephen: It looks like the AIO isn't sticking out the side.
[3858.48] Stephen: Is that a 16 by 16 two layer stack?
[3862.92] Failsafe: I believe so, yes.
[3864.24] Failsafe: Yeah, 16 by 16.
[3865.88] Failsafe: Yeah.
[3866.84] Failsafe: I think it's a free stack,
[3867.96] Failsafe: so you've got the VTX on top.
[3869.72] Failsafe: But yeah, it looks very fun.
[3872.56] UNKNOWN: Yeah.
[3873.4] Stephen: That means you could crash it without ripping stuff off,
[3876.28] Stephen: because the one thing I find with the 25 by 25s is,
[3880.24] Stephen: because they naturally stick out the sides of frames like that.
[3883.12] Stephen: If you come in hard,
[3884.52] Stephen: you can knock things like the little push buttons
[3886.76] Stephen: off the sides.
[3888.36] Curry: These are always so much better than the whoops,
[3890.56] Curry: because as light and nice as whoops are,
[3894.12] Curry: as soon as you can start thinking about going outside,
[3897.4] Curry: they're like, oh, look, there's a sail,
[3898.88] Curry: let's blow it around,
[3900.04] Curry: and it doesn't come out of dives as well,
[3901.84] Curry: and those things will just cut through everything
[3903.84] Curry: and dive beautifully
[3905.52] Curry: and just perform like a tiny five inches, essentially.
[3909.72] Stephen: And let's be honest, if you're flying at home
[3912.24] Stephen: and you clip a wall or something,
[3915.68] Stephen: you're going down whether you've got prop guards or not.
[3921.56] Stephen: And so you may as well just have,
[3925.84] Stephen: you may as well have something that doesn't have prop guards
[3928.72] Stephen: and have decent performance
[3930.24] Stephen: instead of putting up with prop guards.
[3931.96] Stephen: And yeah, maybe if you're going slowly, you can bump stuff,
[3935.2] Stephen: but it sucks the instant you try and do any aqua flying.
[3939.0] Stephen: I've tried to do snap rolls with a whoop,
[3940.72] Stephen: and on the face of it, a snap roll is just so basic.
[3944.28] Stephen: You just need to give it a little bump on the throttle,
[3946.76] Stephen: whip it round, catch it, and then back on the throttle.
[3951.28] Stephen: It's incredibly hard to do with a whoop,
[3953.6] Stephen: because those ducks, they're like a sail,
[3956.28] Stephen: and they just slow down the quads so much
[3958.68] Stephen: when you try and do rolls.
[3960.52] Stephen: It seems to take forever to do like just a basic snap roll.
[3964.88] Curry: It is tricky, definitely, inside.
[3966.52] Curry: Well, hey, we've been going over an hour, guys.
[3968.88] Curry: I should just thank all our patrons for doing what they do,
[3972.72] Curry: because they keep this show going without them.
[3975.28] Curry: We wouldn't be able to afford someone
[3976.64] Curry: who takes this weird video combination we have
[3980.0] Curry: and somehow puts it into a podcast,
[3982.88] Curry: which is actually quite listenable too,
[3984.92] Curry: and doesn't involve any of our strange noises
[3991.12] Curry: or talking about kicking up people's bottoms
[3994.52] Curry: and strange sentences.
[3996.64] Curry: General audio panel beating.
[3998.88] Curry: Yeah, very good, isn't it?
[4000.92] Curry: So thank you, and if you'd like to join our Patreon,
[4003.6] Curry: you can do.
[4005.36] Curry: What is it?
[4006.2] Curry: It's patreon.com forward slash let's drone out, I presume.
[4009.16] Curry: Am I right?
[4010.0] Stephen: It is indeed patreon.com slash let's drone out.
[4013.44] Stephen: Well, thank you very much.
[4014.6] Stephen: Thank you for our awesome Patreons.
[4016.04] Stephen: Thanks for everyone in the chat,
[4017.28] Stephen: and we will see you next week.
[4019.2] Stephen: We're lining up some content.
[4020.6] Stephen: We've got a few bits and bobs,
[4022.2] Stephen: maybe talking about some new digital FPV solutions
[4026.48] Stephen: and some racing topics coming up as well.
[4028.96] Stephen: Look forward to seeing you in the future.
[4031.32] Stephen: Telemetry lost.
