Thank you to our lovely patrons that help donate [7.48] Jack: So that we could pay the editor to remove the swear words and silly things we say [12.56] Jack: Massive. Thank you to call us campus art folk now Sam Dharma on with the show [23.12] Curry: Hello welcome to let's join out we're on episode [56.19] Curry: 426 and [57.87] Curry: Today we have over here the moustache loveliness of Steven. Hello. Good evening down below [65.95] Curry: We have Mario FPV who's our special guest tonight? [70.55] Curry: Hello, everyone. Hello, and I'm everyone's favorite curry kitten [74.63] Curry: Hello, and we've just had a wild Jack appear you're coming on Jack. Hello. How are you? [80.87] Curry: I'm good. Thank you. Very good. So the the [85.51] Curry: The point of this show is to learn all about open IPC. I've been getting a lot of things about it [93.07] Curry: and people have been getting quite excited about it and someone who's been [97.79] Curry: pretty much at the forefront of producing videos for it is this guy down here Mario and [102.55] Curry: We'd like to thank Mary for coming on because if you've watched these videos, you will know that he puts out a lot of [108.35] Curry: Videos, but he doesn't talk on them. So he's a little bit shy [112.39] Curry: But he's he's agreed to come on and speak to us tonight [116.83] Curry: So most importantly he knows a lot about the topic. So we're looking forward to hear what he's got to say [121.95] Curry: That's what wanting to hear about but before we get into that we just as we we ask everybody [126.67] Curry: It's like how did you get in the hobby? What was your background? Why did you start flying things and what led you to it? [133.47] MarioFPV: Yeah, so I [136.27] MarioFPV: started flying [138.63] MarioFPV: drones back in [140.99] MarioFPV: 2017 and when I first came in the United Kingdom [147.03] MarioFPV: Originally, I'm from Greece [149.35] MarioFPV: so [152.39] MarioFPV: When I was here I I was with another friend here actually we were in Manchester outside of Manchester in [159.95] MarioFPV: in a small village, so he was flying his drone and I [164.75] MarioFPV: Put his goggles on my head and it was really amazing experience [169.33] MarioFPV: So I said, yeah, I have to buy one of those drones and start flying at first [174.29] MarioFPV: I started with a very small toy drone. I [178.93] MarioFPV: Crashed it many times. But then I discovered the clean flight and [183.53] MarioFPV: That's when actually I started buying components and I started building my own drone [189.21] MarioFPV: Which ended up having instead of clean flight later [193.21] MarioFPV: I this I discovered I now and that's where actually I replaced clean flight [199.81] MarioFPV: Which was a little bit older software compared to I now with so many functional new functionalities [206.69] MarioFPV: so [209.09] MarioFPV: At around [212.77] MarioFPV: 2019 I think 20 I [215.97] MarioFPV: Discovered until that time I was flying just the analog like most of us [221.09] MarioFPV: I guess and then I discovered open HT [224.73] MarioFPV: Which was really amazing for it was very cheap low-budget [231.53] MarioFPV: Digital FPV system, which I decided to get involved. I started doing some test flights at that time [238.53] MarioFPV: I remember the developer was [240.81] MarioFPV: Steven Oliver, I believe most of you guys know know him already and he did some amazing job, but then he [249.25] MarioFPV: Quit open HT. He completely abandoned the project [254.89] MarioFPV: But we continue working with [258.77] MarioFPV: some other [260.81] MarioFPV: developers on open HT [263.89] MarioFPV: We did some testings and some test versions actually mainly [269.81] MarioFPV: That was when Jetson nano [272.77] MarioFPV: Started to be getting more popular and everyone started buying Jetson nanos and we decided having [279.61] MarioFPV: our first Jetson nano drones [283.41] Curry: That was different because the Jetson nano was quite a big [287.69] Curry: Thing compared to the Raspberry Pi where you could put the pi zero on it's this big the Jetson nano was like [293.33] Curry: Yeah, you can almost just bulk called parts onto the Jetson nano. It was that big [298.25] MarioFPV: yeah, so the first version was actually a [301.49] MarioFPV: Full-scale Jetson nano on a drone. It was very bad idea very [307.45] MarioFPV: Wobbling not not flying that great [309.33] MarioFPV: But then I discovered there was a carrier board for Jetson nano that was able to put only the small [318.21] MarioFPV: part of the Jetson nano which was there [321.33] MarioFPV: Without the main carrier board, but only the very basic [325.81] MarioFPV: Parts, it was quite expensive at that time. I remember I had to pay [330.21] MarioFPV: 120 pounds only for the carrier board and the Jetson nano was [334.73] MarioFPV: Around another 50 pounds at that time. It was that that was the price of Jetson nano [340.21] MarioFPV: so anyway, I this I managed to put everything together and [346.29] MarioFPV: one [347.97] MarioFPV: One company sent me a really nice camera with the IMAX [353.13] MarioFPV: 415 sensor for Jetson nano and [357.21] MarioFPV: At that time the open HD wasn't able to have long range [363.97] MarioFPV: Because it was still under development [367.37] MarioFPV: Later later on though, we discovered Wi-Fi broadcast next-generation WFB-NG [375.61] MarioFPV: I'm not sure if you have if you have heard of that [378.01] MarioFPV: I have published a few videos for that and also some video tutorials that explains a lot of things [385.05] MarioFPV: about [386.45] MarioFPV: WFB-NG [387.61] MarioFPV: Which is a good time I think to give a shout out to [392.53] MarioFPV: Vasiliev Cinco the owner of [395.97] MarioFPV: WFB-NG [398.33] MarioFPV: so and [402.21] MarioFPV: It was compatible also for Jetson nano it was compatible for laptops for [408.01] MarioFPV: for everything also open HD actually for WFB-NG and [414.45] MarioFPV: Made their own version from the WFB-NG [418.65] MarioFPV: but [420.65] MarioFPV: something [422.33] MarioFPV: That was there was a small problem with the WFB-NG. It was that [428.05] MarioFPV: The hardware was very expensive. So the Jetson nano that was able to do H265 [435.29] MarioFPV: encoding [437.9] MarioFPV: it was like a [440.3] MarioFPV: 160 170 pounds only for the air unit [443.94] Stephen: if we just go back to the reasons for that WFB-NG that the motivation there was to [449.34] Stephen: To make the easy Wi-Fi broadcast work better specifically for video right to kind of line up the video [456.86] MarioFPV: Transport and the so the Wi-Fi system it the WFB-NG actually added [463.3] MarioFPV: Encryption to the video and that was a name that enabled us to have [468.62] MarioFPV: More than one person next to each other and fly at the same time with different frequencies [473.14] MarioFPV: and encryption [475.94] MarioFPV: also, it was it boosted the the the the range because [483.3] MarioFPV: It had variable packages and that's exactly the same principle that Express LRS was using variable packages [491.86] MarioFPV: so that's why that's what Vasily did so he took the [496.94] MarioFPV: WFB first version which is the Wi-Fi broadcast it stands for Wi-Fi broadcast and [503.14] MarioFPV: Improved it added some features and make it universal universal means that you don't need to be only on raspberry [510.98] MarioFPV: Pies you can use a laptop you can use a Jetson nano or you can use an orange pie [516.18] MarioFPV: I'm not sure if you've heard of orange about orange pies [519.38] MarioFPV: So you you are not bounded into a hardware only, but you have a lot of options [527.5] MarioFPV: But like I said back to my my sentence was that it was very expensive [533.66] MarioFPV: And that's when open IPC came [537.1] MarioFPV: because open IPC [539.74] MarioFPV: Was cost at the cameras cost it like this camera [545.58] MarioFPV: Costs 12 pounds [548.54] MarioFPV: And it can encode H 265 and it can have WFB-NG on inside [556.94] MarioFPV: installed [558.1] Stephen: That's not just a camera. That's the equivalent of the raspberry PI [562.38] Stephen: It sells yeah, and the camera module all at one board. So [567.02] MarioFPV: This chip over here that one [570.9] MarioFPV: is actually [572.62] MarioFPV: the what [575.3] MarioFPV: What encodes? [577.34] MarioFPV: The sensor is here in front on front. Okay, so that tip is the encoder and this is the memory [584.14] MarioFPV: Which has a very small memory that is a problem. It's only 8 megabytes [590.18] MarioFPV: That's very small. That's really small [595.05] MarioFPV: But it's enough. It's more than enough to fit [600.25] MarioFPV: Majestic so what is majestic majestic is a the creation of a Dimitri [606.45] MarioFPV: Illim I think I prefer I'm [610.57] MarioFPV: Pronouncing correctly the name. He's the owner of majestic. He's it's basically a [616.73] MarioFPV: streamer a G stream an alternative to G streamer [621.01] MarioFPV: That has a lot of profiles it can do better encoding compared to G streamer [629.05] Stephen: Right, so it's majestic where the interaction with the hardware video encoder comes in that [634.53] Stephen: You know G streamer could use like an AMD GPU, but majestic can use these embedded encoders [642.57] MarioFPV: To be honest, I'm not a specialist on majestic Dimitri knows about majestic and he is the one who actually [650.25] MarioFPV: editing and [651.77] MarioFPV: Correcting any things inside majestic. So I think it's better for [657.89] MarioFPV: No, okay, Dimitri to reply on majestic things [663.05] MarioFPV: Most of them I don't understand them as well. So, okay, that's cool [667.89] Curry: So the reasons you can get these cameras so cheap is the economy of scale. So these cameras are basically [674.25] Curry: repurposing the the modern [676.77] Curry: sort of [678.13] Curry: Remote nanny camera and stuff like that [680.21] Curry: There's the sort of webcams you'd see so you can monitor your house and stream over the internet [685.53] Curry: So the the silicon's already been developed and it's just a case of repurpose. Yeah, so this hardware [692.53] MarioFPV: Exists everywhere around us, especially in the United Kingdom with so many cameras on the streets [698.85] MarioFPV: I'm pretty sure most of them are like that very similar [702.77] MarioFPV: Hardware and they are using very very basic software that can stream [711.45] MarioFPV: 10 ATP 25 frames per second 25 frames per second is nothing for FPV [718.09] MarioFPV: It's not good, right? [719.65] MarioFPV: but what we what the developers of open IPC did was that they took the hardware and [727.09] MarioFPV: They created a firmware to boost everything on it [732.21] MarioFPV: So instead of 25 frames per second now [735.09] MarioFPV: We have 50 frames per second free 50 frames per second is not that bad or 60 frames per second [741.29] MarioFPV: For that camera and there is another camera that it's still in under [747.37] MarioFPV: heavy development recently [749.93] MarioFPV: That can do [752.01] MarioFPV: 120 frames per second [754.13] MarioFPV: It is made by Sigma star [756.81] MarioFPV: Which is owned by realtek. Have you heard realtek the audio? [763.41] MarioFPV: So yeah, it's a big company and that's why this hardware [768.61] MarioFPV: sells in [770.65] MarioFPV: thousands [772.01] MarioFPV: worldwide, there are thousands of thousands of those parts everywhere around the world and [778.37] MarioFPV: That's why it makes them so cheap and we managed to bought them to bought them that cheap and now we are developing [786.25] MarioFPV: on them [787.41] MarioFPV: That's fantastic [788.73] Stephen: So you saw eight makes of flash is that enough to run a web server to interact with the camera? [794.45] MarioFPV: So there is a web server [796.49] MarioFPV: But we're not really using them. We use a I [800.17] MarioFPV: We use a SSH to login into the into the Linux. It's Linux. Basically. It's a small very small compact Linux [808.85] MarioFPV: That you can you need to know [812.05] MarioFPV: some very basic commands [815.05] MarioFPV: Really basic commands. You don't need to be an expert of Linux because everyone hears. Oh my god, it's Linux [820.37] MarioFPV: Oh my god, it's so scary. So so many things are happening to Linux and I don't know them. I'm a Windows person [826.49] MarioFPV: It's not like that. I mean you you know how to edit a text, right? Everyone does you just edit a text? [834.17] MarioFPV: Following the instructions and if you have any questions, you will there is a big community [839.33] MarioFPV: control to you to [841.37] MarioFPV: Enter very simple very simple commands. It's not something that you need to be a developer to develop that VI muscle memory [849.01] Stephen: That's all you need, right? Just remember [852.29] Curry: In Linux, I don't know any other editors [854.49] Curry: Well, one thing you mentioned to me earlier Mario that people possibly don't know is that how long open ITC is been going? [861.73] Curry: And the fact that it's not just the FPV quite quite the country, isn't it? [866.73] MarioFPV: Yeah, open IPC has been around for years [870.37] MarioFPV: I think three four years at least because they are using open IPC for many other projects [876.49] MarioFPV: I mean open IPC FPV is like a small ant [882.13] MarioFPV: Compared to an elephant. I mean, this is nothing for example. They are using them for fishing or for [889.93] MarioFPV: diving underwater and [892.93] MarioFPV: Explore the the sea or the seabed so there are many many [900.85] MarioFPV: many many [902.73] MarioFPV: applications [904.01] MarioFPV: For open IPC that they are using them worldwide and of course for surveillance that they are using them for professional [913.01] MarioFPV: hotels casinos and a lot of things worldwide and [917.13] MarioFPV: There are actually 80 there are 80 developers in the team 80 8 0 [925.45] Curry: It's a good busy code base looking at it. There's a lot of a lot of check-ins and a lot of [931.77] MarioFPV: Well all sorts going on. Yeah, and we're using only three four cameras from this from so many [939.45] MarioFPV: options that there are [941.45] MarioFPV: But we chose those ones maybe in the future [944.97] MarioFPV: We will discover a better camera, which will cost around twenty thirty pounds as well [950.37] MarioFPV: And then we will discover that they has a better sensor or it has [955.17] MarioFPV: Everything is so new into FPV like it's been like five six months the first good actual [964.01] MarioFPV: Filmware that you can just floss and go out and fly [968.13] MarioFPV: It's really new for FPV [971.81] MarioFPV: But it's very fast growing and we can see that from the numbers my numbers [977.93] MarioFPV: So then my channels numbers have been exploded the last two three months [983.37] MarioFPV: Just because probably probably everyone wanted that to happen [988.29] MarioFPV: Everyone wanted an affordable digital [991.97] MarioFPV: open-source FPV system that you can just plug and play and [997.65] MarioFPV: speaking of that [1000.65] MarioFPV: And there are plans future plans to to have a [1006.25] MarioFPV: European European based [1009.49] MarioFPV: Warehouse and then American based warehouse that we the the developers will sell [1016.49] MarioFPV: ready-made [1018.01] MarioFPV: binding-flight [1019.61] MarioFPV: hardware [1021.81] MarioFPV: I forgot I forgot to me. Yeah, I forgot to mention that we also have [1027.93] MarioFPV: A VRX now ground station hardware [1033.76] Stephen: So I've read some of the install guides and currently the install guides mention things like [1039.56] Stephen: Writing your own version of u-boot on to the hardware and things like this [1043.56] Stephen: Which you know, I've worked with like Wi-Fi routers. I've got [1047.0] Stephen: No stuff, you know wireless routers here that I've flashed and typically I haven't needed to mess with u-boot [1052.76] Stephen: So that kind of scared me a little bit. Are we going to be able to [1056.36] Stephen: rely on the vendors u-boot soon so that we can at least just [1060.44] Stephen: Maybe flash from a from a web UI or flash more easily without having to actually go down and replace the bootloader [1067.8] MarioFPV: so the [1069.36] MarioFPV: The bootloader you change it only once when you want to go from the stock [1075.12] MarioFPV: firmware [1076.32] MarioFPV: Excuse me to the open IPC firmware and you will just need one of those [1081.98] MarioFPV: An FTDI adapter that costs two or three pounds [1086.78] MarioFPV: Maybe most of what most of you guys have one [1092.22] MarioFPV: So it's not that that complicated because there there there is a software from the vendor actually from [1100.34] MarioFPV: High silicon that all you need to do you you download it you plug your FTDI [1107.18] MarioFPV: to the uart of a camera [1110.34] MarioFPV: And you just plus it or if you if you are a Linux person you use some Linux commands or [1117.42] MarioFPV: It also has open IPC has another tool called burn [1122.46] MarioFPV: That with this tool you actually you can run it on Windows. You can run it anywhere you want [1127.46] MarioFPV: I think it works even on Mac and [1131.87] MarioFPV: You can actually replace the commands or any software from high silicon to flush it directly [1138.35] MarioFPV: The bootloader and once you are into bootloader then [1145.19] MarioFPV: You don't have to do it again. You just you can just throw away your FTDI you everything will happen through SSH [1152.15] MarioFPV: You will see sub grade since system upgrade upgrade [1157.47] MarioFPV: And there are so so frequent something that I noticed on open IPC [1162.67] MarioFPV: Is that the updates are coming every day? There are there is a channel actually that you can see them [1168.99] MarioFPV: Now as we speak from 8 o'clock until now [1173.15] MarioFPV: 34 files have been updated 34 new frameworks have been uploaded [1179.15] MarioFPV: It's constant constant updating and development because there are so many going on at the moment [1186.75] Curry: Okay, so I'm gonna say right you've sold me on this and you haven't even mentioned the latency you're getting at the moment [1191.95] Curry: Which is which is pretty amazing? [1194.27] Curry: Yeah, as you say you were flying today. It was feeling quite like DJI [1199.47] Curry: but you know, so I [1201.55] Curry: I'm a person with a quad or a plane and I want to get open IPC running [1207.75] Curry: What do I need in terms of the hardware for my? [1211.79] Curry: transmission and receiving [1213.71] Curry: Is there something I can buy? [1216.11] Curry: Right now before before this sort of pre-made hardware is ready to go or do I need to [1222.15] Curry: Start ripping things apart and stuff. How do I go about getting myself a setup? [1227.43] MarioFPV: Yeah, so you will need obviously a camera and no an open IPC compatible camera at the moment there are [1236.31] MarioFPV: three or four [1239.19] MarioFPV: Compatible [1240.79] MarioFPV: cameras that [1242.31] MarioFPV: Worth to worth to try to to mention of in theory all of them are compatible [1249.39] MarioFPV: In theory, but we haven't added the dub the very very important component, which is the WF BNG [1257.51] MarioFPV: And that is the that is actually the transmission the link [1261.23] MarioFPV: Between the camera and the ground station. So we managed to do that into [1266.43] MarioFPV: The goke goke cameras the high silicon cameras, which is basically very similar in terms of [1274.95] MarioFPV: On performance you can see all the all the [1279.55] MarioFPV: supported [1282.27] MarioFPV: Cameras on the on the wiki there is a wiki of open IPC so you can go and see and there are some links that you can [1289.59] MarioFPV: actually click the link and and [1292.27] MarioFPV: Make sure and you you you will be sure when you buy that specific camera from that specific vendor [1299.55] MarioFPV: you it will work because [1302.87] MarioFPV: I'm probably you've already know that the [1305.95] MarioFPV: Chinese are not so reliable [1308.79] MarioFPV: Into in terms of what they what they say on their websites. They advertise other things, but actually there's something different [1316.59] MarioFPV: But those links that we posted on wiki they are confident. They have been confirmed [1322.43] Curry: Is this the is this the wiki page we're talking about for the supported devices [1328.27] MarioFPV: No, this is [1330.55] Curry: Some of the wrong wiki help me [1334.75] Jack: Hang on [1336.91] Curry: Yes, that's the one either org. Oh, okay [1340.91] MarioFPV: So these are these are all these are the current no, these are these are the the cameras of open IPC generally [1347.95] Curry: Oh, I see. So I need a specific [1352.47] Curry: There's a subset for FPV. So for FPV [1356.19] Curry: Where's that? Where's that hiding? [1358.23] Curry: Down is a big FPV kit. Oh [1361.47] Curry: I see. Yeah FPV kit. There we go. Ah, now we're kicking. Ah, right IPC board [1368.63] Stephen: That Goku on the GK seven. What's that? There was a V 200 [1373.31] Stephen: But that seemed to be sold out are the only one I could see you went up because I went looking on Aliexpress [1377.95] Stephen: I could find a V 300 but not the V 200 [1382.07] Stephen: You can it's compatible V 300 is compatible [1386.27] Stephen: Okay, that's a network. And I also saw it [1393.32] Stephen: Mentioned antennas with the board, but it looked like you were actually attaching a USB Wi-Fi adapter to get improved power output [1405.84] MarioFPV: Yeah, well you can you can use any Wi-Fi [1410.16] MarioFPV: Adapters that has RTL [1415.2] MarioFPV: 8812 AU chipset real tech. Okay real tech. Yeah [1422.8] MarioFPV: So it has to be that real tech chip stator or after us [1426.56] MarioFPV: There are other ones. Okay [1429.88] MarioFPV: Yeah [1430.92] Stephen: So the boards don't have Wi-Fi on them [1432.96] Stephen: I was kind of expecting with a CPU and video encoder that they put Wi-Fi on the same board [1437.16] MarioFPV: But it's always a daughter board is it? No, they don't come with why we Wi-Fi they come only the [1443.8] MarioFPV: Encoder the cheaper that encodes and the sensor [1448.2] MarioFPV: so you need [1450.04] MarioFPV: Two you need two adapters one from for air unit and one for the ground station [1457.32] MarioFPV: That needs to be either on 2.4 gigahertz or 5.8 gigahertz [1462.92] MarioFPV: I think it's [1465.16] MarioFPV: Wisely it's wiser to use 5.8 gigahertz because the 2.4 is very noisy, especially here in the UK [1473.0] MarioFPV: It's everywhere [1475.24] MarioFPV: 2.4 unless you are up in Scotland [1479.72] MarioFPV: Somewhere in the middle of nowhere. Yeah, I'm flying around the park [1482.28] Stephen: I look at my dynamic power output that I keep obviously locked at 25 milliwatt [1486.92] Stephen: But strangely it seems to jump up to 1 watt all the time when I'm only a handful of meters away because of all the Wi-Fi [1493.36] Curry: There's a lot of Wi-Fi noise [1495.92] Curry: Okay, so we've got the camera and the the Wi-Fi device for the camera. We need another Wi-Fi device for the ground station [1502.88] Curry: So what's our what's our sort of processor on the ground station to do for the ground station? You have a lot of options [1511.04] MarioFPV: You have basically [1514.08] MarioFPV: A raspberry pi as an option if you want to [1517.44] MarioFPV: decode [1518.8] MarioFPV: h264 [1520.96] MarioFPV: Or the new raspberry pi 5 [1523.6] MarioFPV: Which decodes I've heard the h265 as well [1528.43] MarioFPV: the raspberry pi 5 [1530.19] MarioFPV: You have the jetsun nano if you already own one. Otherwise, you can use any other jetsuns [1537.23] MarioFPV: And you have a laptop if you want to you can install on your laptop [1544.03] MarioFPV: Linux and install the wfbng [1548.99] MarioFPV: or use a [1551.55] MarioFPV: This where is it that stick usb stick flash disk that uh, it's also old it has pre-installed [1561.7] MarioFPV: The linux I have uploaded [1565.62] MarioFPV: On one of my videos this version if someone doesn't want to [1570.18] MarioFPV: Actually install linux on their laptop or their desktop and just want to try it [1575.14] MarioFPV: All they need is one usb stick of 32 gigabytes [1579.3] MarioFPV: And just try it as a ground station [1582.1] MarioFPV: And then we have of course in my personal opinion the best option which is actually [1592.14] MarioFPV: this [1593.66] MarioFPV: Not bad [1595.1] MarioFPV: It's actually [1596.78] MarioFPV: a vrx [1599.26] MarioFPV: Do iy vrx [1601.98] MarioFPV: That uh, all you need to do is just you plug [1606.14] MarioFPV: On the hdmi [1610.0] MarioFPV: So it has an hdmi port [1612.96] MarioFPV: An internet adapter two usbs which one of them is connected [1618.08] MarioFPV: On uh one of the wi-fi adapters [1621.84] MarioFPV: and the power cable [1624.16] Stephen: Hey, no hot glue. No tape. It's almost ready for market [1628.64] Stephen: Yeah [1629.6] Curry: I mean it feels like you might need a bit of a counterweight at the back of your head just to stop it falling forward [1634.56] Curry: On your nose. So what what is inside that vrx? Is it? [1639.36] MarioFPV: so yeah, it's uh [1641.68] MarioFPV: It's a board a board that actually [1644.54] MarioFPV: decodes [1646.32] MarioFPV: Very very fast. It's a very fast decoder h264 or h265 [1653.6] MarioFPV: And the best part of all it costs [1657.18] MarioFPV: 14 pounds [1660.48] Curry: I like the numbers. Perfect. I suppose the question is mario is it [1665.36] Curry: Do we all jump in and start going like oh, let's buy hardware here here here [1669.36] Curry: Or do we say oh actually open ipc are going to manufacture their own stuff [1673.44] Curry: And it's going to be pre-done ready to go. Do we just wait for that? [1676.64] Stephen: I quite happily pay an extra five pounds to the open ipc project to buy the hardware through them and have them [1682.64] Curry: Fix the bootloader and they can do the bootloader. They can associate in a new config. It's like you [1689.04] MarioFPV: Yeah, that's the plan. Like I said, the plan is to actually have ready-made hardware [1693.68] MarioFPV: We we already had that hardware. We just discovered it now [1698.16] MarioFPV: And we are working on it [1700.16] MarioFPV: We did we don't have to build new hardware [1703.12] MarioFPV: All we need now is the salt is the software [1706.88] MarioFPV: And we the software it's it's up to [1709.68] MarioFPV: Our free time actually because not all of us have free time to [1714.08] MarioFPV: put on that [1716.16] MarioFPV: and uh [1717.44] MarioFPV: We would we all we're asking is support like [1721.52] MarioFPV: Anyone who wants to get involved anyone who wants to do start doing test things [1726.64] MarioFPV: Or if they know how to to [1729.44] MarioFPV: to code in c++ [1731.76] MarioFPV: uh, please [1733.12] MarioFPV: Come and find us and uh [1735.04] MarioFPV: Get involved [1737.84] MarioFPV: That's wonderful. Yes, because because we believe that uh [1741.52] MarioFPV: digital [1742.56] MarioFPV: fpv is [1744.72] MarioFPV: Is something a standard now? I mean who know very few people I know that they are flying analog [1750.88] MarioFPV: And we know that uh all the new systems. They are really nice really good. DJI walk snail [1757.04] MarioFPV: HD zero, uh, they're real nice systems, but [1761.28] MarioFPV: It's quite expensive for some of us. I mean I already own the DJI system and and it's closed [1766.48] Stephen: You can't buy the hardware. You can't you cannot [1770.4] Stephen: Exactly you can't buy the artisan hardware inside of DJI and walk snail [1774.16] Stephen: It's not on the common market and the people who sold to walk snail [1777.84] Stephen: Have said that they're not that the people they're buying from are not going to sell to anyone outside of china [1782.96] Stephen: So it's unobtainable hardware, even if you can get the software [1786.48] MarioFPV: You can buy this, uh everywhere. Yeah [1792.16] Stephen: What's the osd like we had someone pop up? Um, [1795.28] Stephen: Durgood in the chat. Thank you very much for lots of informative, uh snippets in the chat [1800.4] Stephen: Has had lots of [1802.4] Stephen: Chanted on lots of things and mentioned that there's an on-screen display on the ground station. That's running off mavlink telemetry. So [1809.68] Stephen: You can enable that obviously an ina of an argy pilot probably in beta flight. Although [1814.64] Stephen: I have this limitation [1816.64] Curry: a pretty new thing, isn't it the first time I saw [1819.44] Curry: your open ipc videos that had nothing so the [1823.04] Curry: Literally in the last couple of weeks the the osd has just popped along and is yes picking up the mavlink packets from [1829.92] Curry: Other things I was just trying to find a video to show you guys it's brand new somewhere [1835.84] MarioFPV: Yeah, so [1837.68] MarioFPV: That's where I got involved actually into [1840.48] MarioFPV: software developing in the in the in the project [1845.6] MarioFPV: um [1847.04] MarioFPV: we we we me and [1849.92] MarioFPV: me and andre [1853.04] MarioFPV: Were working on [1855.44] MarioFPV: On that vrx the the nvr. That's how we call it nvr [1860.88] MarioFPV: and um [1863.04] MarioFPV: So I I I added the osd in that uh in that firmware [1869.84] MarioFPV: But um [1871.68] MarioFPV: It was actually based on mavlink [1874.24] MarioFPV: And all I did was just I I translated the mavlink commands into osd [1881.6] MarioFPV: Uh, yes, that's the one [1885.28] MarioFPV: Yeah [1886.16] MarioFPV: So this is actually this is something very interesting. I forgot to mention that earlier [1891.12] MarioFPV: Like I said, we have the majestic [1893.84] MarioFPV: Uh software that is actually doing [1897.36] MarioFPV: The video encoding [1899.84] MarioFPV: There's also another thing that another encoder which is fully open source [1905.12] MarioFPV: uh the vnc [1907.36] MarioFPV: The vnc [1908.64] MarioFPV: It's I think we should find another name for that because vnc means video encoding and vdec means video decoding [1915.6] MarioFPV: So vnc vdec was actually the first version [1919.28] MarioFPV: Of uh this system that you see now that video [1923.44] MarioFPV: um [1924.96] MarioFPV: And yeah, it was andre's job, which is amazing. He did he made an amazing job on that [1930.88] MarioFPV: uh with uh, actually [1932.88] MarioFPV: I used uh andre's uh firmware and uh who I am too. I think that's his nickname [1939.68] MarioFPV: I don't know his name. Like I said, there are so many developers in that project that I honestly don't know them all [1945.92] MarioFPV: and so I mixed [1947.92] MarioFPV: All these those two filmwares to create the first version of uh, that video that we just saw [1953.76] MarioFPV: And I all I did I just added the osd into the c++ source code [1959.2] MarioFPV: Uh, but then another one person that I would like to uh to mention is that bang din [1967.36] MarioFPV: Created a new osd [1970.32] MarioFPV: Which is based on lvgl [1973.2] MarioFPV: anywhere [1974.32] MarioFPV: this is [1975.36] MarioFPV: quite deep into source coding, but [1978.4] Stephen: With this I think I heard the x guys talk about lvgl when they're looking for lightweight way to draw screen widgets [1985.28] Stephen: so I guess it comes up so [1988.88] MarioFPV: Now now we are working into a more [1991.84] MarioFPV: Highly sophisticated better. So uh osd [1996.16] MarioFPV: again based on [1997.6] MarioFPV: Mavlink [1998.64] MarioFPV: So really soon we will have the first version. There are a lot of things that need to be fixed addressed [2006.34] MarioFPV: But uh, yeah, he did a really nice job [2009.54] MarioFPV: added [2010.42] MarioFPV: This osd on lvgl like I said, all of us are just contributing and we are just using our free time on that [2018.18] MarioFPV: Because we believe that we want [2020.18] MarioFPV: to [2021.06] MarioFPV: to have an open source [2023.14] MarioFPV: Low budget very very cheap like if you add all these prices that I just mentioned it's like roughly 50 pounds [2030.18] MarioFPV: for everything [2031.46] MarioFPV: Right, so 50 pounds to have a an all included. Uh, so [2037.38] MarioFPV: digital system [2038.98] MarioFPV: You would just need of course goggles or a monitor for that [2043.94] MarioFPV: for that to to be [2046.26] MarioFPV: fully fully working [2049.46] Frank: This episode was recorded in front of a live online audience [2052.72] Frank: Downloaded and edited to make sense when it played audio only [2056.18] Frank: Censored to please the itunes people hosted on the internet forwarded through to your podcast provider [2060.96] Frank: Downloaded playing on your device and is now playing in your ears [2064.66] Frank: All thanks to our patreons consider joining them and you'll also get other online benefits [2070.18] Frank: Find out more at patreon.com [2073.3] Frank: Let's drone out [2075.7] Curry: So I suppose the the question we'd have aside from the fact that how do we get it and [2081.62] Curry: How do we do it? [2082.34] Curry: Which is like read the wiki and buy some stuff [2084.9] Curry: Is what's what's the immediate plans from your point of view towards the the fpb part? [2090.42] Curry: Of open ipc what what what's the plans there in the next sort of six or twelve months? [2097.62] MarioFPV: um [2098.58] MarioFPV: of course, we want to [2100.82] MarioFPV: Perfect completely this camera the new camera with 120 frames per second or the 90 frames per second and 10 atp [2109.14] MarioFPV: To be honest, I prefer that that mode because the 10 atp [2114.02] MarioFPV: Uh is much much better [2116.34] MarioFPV: Compared to 720p [2118.42] MarioFPV: And I was flying today with 90 frames per second and I couldn't feel any latency at all [2124.58] MarioFPV: So the plans the future plans is to perfect that [2128.66] MarioFPV: That camera to make sure that it's working flawlessly [2132.66] MarioFPV: and uh [2133.94] MarioFPV: then [2134.74] MarioFPV: improve a little bit the [2137.38] MarioFPV: the vrx [2139.46] MarioFPV: The vrx part also, we would like to add support for more [2144.9] MarioFPV: wi-fi adapters [2147.14] MarioFPV: Because there are a couple of one or two more adapters that they can support [2153.62] MarioFPV: Monitor mode and injection [2157.38] MarioFPV: Package uh for for us to to be for them to be compatible for with the wi-fi [2166.58] MarioFPV: And of course when we [2169.3] MarioFPV: Feel that we actually have some [2172.82] MarioFPV: People that they want actually to buy it and use it [2176.26] MarioFPV: Then we will start building [2178.74] MarioFPV: ready made [2180.82] MarioFPV: bind-and-flight [2183.22] MarioFPV: Kits that we can just ship them worldwide [2187.86] MarioFPV: but for that to happen, we [2190.26] MarioFPV: we need uh [2191.94] MarioFPV: support from the community because uh [2197.38] MarioFPV: Yeah, uh, I forgot also to mention the owner of open ipc. They are they there is an owner [2204.82] MarioFPV: The the owner of open ipc is egore egora zalato [2209.62] MarioFPV: that he [2211.62] MarioFPV: keeps uh telling to people that no one is actually [2216.34] MarioFPV: Putting any donations or not even two or five pounds just to show their support because all these uh [2224.18] MarioFPV: Develop they are really they are software engineers those one these guys [2228.42] MarioFPV: They are working as software engineers and they are doing that in their free time [2233.38] MarioFPV: They open ipc ipv and no one is paying them. Of course in an open source project. You're not expecting to be a millionaire [2242.02] MarioFPV: and um [2243.78] MarioFPV: No one wants actually to donate. No one is asking from anyone to donate a million [2248.58] MarioFPV: They just asking to donate five pounds because five pounds will not make anyone a millionaire or a rich person, right? [2256.5] MarioFPV: It's just you're buying a coffee to someone that wants something for everyone [2261.7] Curry: Perhaps it's the problem that um, ipc [2265.14] Curry: From our point of view from fpv is starting to get known about [2268.98] Curry: But at the moment it still looks a little bit like oh [2272.58] Curry: This looks complicated. I I think it might scare people off if they're not from a technical background currently [2278.58] Curry: So hopefully one of the things that can be done is you know [2282.26] Curry: We can we can make more sort of easy step-by-step guides. It's like buy this camera [2287.14] Curry: Buy this thing you connect them like this. This is how you flash the [2290.66] Curry: Software and look i'm flying it and this is my latency and this is how the picture looks and it costs this much [2295.86] Curry: I think that would be quite a compelling case [2298.5] Curry: Uh for people and as soon as that gets known about perhaps that will make a change in terms of things like donations or [2305.06] Curry: The support from that point of view [2307.54] MarioFPV: All right. You have a point way and I know do you know how many times i've heard this? [2312.1] MarioFPV: step-by-step tutorial or step-by-step guide for [2316.1] MarioFPV: I think the problem is [2318.1] MarioFPV: I try I try [2320.5] MarioFPV: My best okay, but unfortunately i'm the only one who is actually [2326.1] MarioFPV: Doing something uh for uh for the community for for everyone to to understand, uh the project [2333.22] MarioFPV: There are some russians that they do that as well [2336.66] MarioFPV: But it's in russians and I don't talk as well because I [2340.82] MarioFPV: I cannot sit in front of the camera and talk. That's my first time [2346.02] Stephen: You're doing a great job. So doing really well really well [2349.62] Stephen: Thanks for coming on. I mean we've we've learned a lot and I think no one's really talked about the project so far [2355.14] Stephen: So and unless you're on [2357.78] Stephen: On the chat server, you're not really sure what's involved in open ipc. So I think you've opened a lot of people's eyes to it [2364.02] Curry: It's really really good to see I think the problem can be if you're not from [2368.74] Curry: A sort of software engineering background or you you've not worked in linux before as well [2373.38] Curry: Just the very mentions of the word the people who've only ever seen windows [2377.86] Curry: They like oh my god. I've just lost my brain. What do you mean? There's a command line to do an [2385.06] Curry: All these sort of things that seem pretty pretty second nature, uh quite scary to people but as I was saying earlier, it's kind of like [2392.82] Curry: Um when express lrs came out and people saw how you flash something and it's like, oh my god, my mind's just blown [2399.7] Curry: and [2400.66] Curry: Even though we were flashing thing became more friendly [2406.26] MarioFPV: We were flashing so at that time two three years ago when express lrs was on the development [2411.46] MarioFPV: I was doing that as well. I was going outside and testing the express lrs and reporting back [2416.66] MarioFPV: to the guys, but uh [2419.3] MarioFPV: It's not that hard. I mean if you follow the the guides if you follow the wiki [2424.58] MarioFPV: Tutorial, there are some wikis already and we keep trying to add some more and more stuff every day [2430.66] Stephen: And it is getting better because it went from a situation with no information at all [2434.42] Stephen: Now there's some information. It's a little bit technical, but it's getting better all the time and that's back in august back in august [2441.38] MarioFPV: I learned because I didn't know that either, right? I learned [2445.14] MarioFPV: from the russian [2446.98] MarioFPV: wiki [2448.1] MarioFPV: And I had to translate them and there was so bad [2451.28] MarioFPV: Translations in most cases and I was able to to build my first drone as open [2456.26] MarioFPV: No, my first open ipc drone. I wasn't a developer. I'm not a developer actually. I'm not [2462.02] MarioFPV: I'm a nurse. I work in the nhs. Okay [2466.58] MarioFPV: So I don't have any software developer background for that [2472.02] MarioFPV: All I have is willing to try and learn new things [2477.86] MarioFPV: Because I prefer to [2481.38] MarioFPV: I prefer to have to have that as a hobby instead of just [2486.1] MarioFPV: Buy a ready-made dji that will cost 600 700 pounds and just fly with it [2492.74] MarioFPV: I prefer to build something with my own hands [2495.78] MarioFPV: And I and that makes me that will make me feel [2498.98] MarioFPV: Proud of what I built because I will fly it my own creation. I will fly my own creation [2504.5] Stephen: So [2506.18] Stephen: The one comment that we've got here is the footprint now [2509.7] Stephen: This is kind of a different conversation to what we had with open hd because you've got the video encoder [2515.86] Stephen: And the camera all in a single unit [2518.74] Stephen: You're kind of limited by the size of that circuit board and I i've noticed [2523.06] Stephen: You build your own drones, but you build kind of big drones, right? So you're running inav and you've got eight inch props [2529.94] Stephen: For most of us that are building seven inches or seven inch even oh, it's the seven inch [2534.9] Stephen: Okay, or below below a five inch maybe even micros [2538.82] Stephen: Do you see a way that? [2541.14] Stephen: This can be used on those systems as well [2543.62] Stephen: Is there a way that maybe an adapter can be printed? Is there a way that it can fit into frames and in a clever way? [2550.9] MarioFPV: Yes, there is there is because I actually did that with open open hd [2555.7] MarioFPV: I was able to fit inside the open hd [2558.74] MarioFPV: inside the three inch [2560.9] MarioFPV: frame [2563.06] MarioFPV: A raspberry pi [2564.66] MarioFPV: A camera a very large camera, which was actually outside of the frame to be honest [2570.26] MarioFPV: But it was in a 3d printed mounted [2573.62] MarioFPV: And uh, yeah, it was flying great and I was able to do eight kilometers without three [2579.94] MarioFPV: micro [2582.18] MarioFPV: So if you exclude the raspberry pi from all this equation you actually you're removing weight, right? [2589.94] Stephen: So it's much easier frames. They're made to take uh, 19 mil the old cameras were what 22 mil jack was it? [2597.78] Curry: So yeah, let's get down to a 22 mil size [2601.94] Curry: I mean it sounds doable within a five inch doesn't it because you're talking about a camera [2606.74] Curry: and a five [2609.54] MarioFPV: So yeah, this the I fly the I flight as I i'm using the I flight frame. It's a seven inch frame [2617.22] MarioFPV: And it fits. Yeah, it doesn't space in a seven inch. Yeah, I know but even on a five inch it would fit [2624.18] MarioFPV: It's just the arms are bigger. That's not a different. I mean on [2628.5] Stephen: If you want to put the camera inside the case in in a proper camera mount [2632.58] Stephen: What is the camera? I think the circuit boards were 32 by 32 [2637.22] MarioFPV: Yeah, it is it is inside [2639.94] MarioFPV: You see that it's inside [2643.52] Stephen: Yeah. Yeah [2644.88] Stephen: I'm, just wondering if there's a way to make it you know [2647.04] Stephen: If some of us who are flying freestyle and are going to crash a lot to try and make it so it's in [2653.12] Stephen: A protected area like you'd have with with other cameras [2657.52] MarioFPV: Yeah, I I see what you mean. Well for that, uh, it will require 3d print something or maybe [2664.0] MarioFPV: in the future manufacturer would [2666.4] MarioFPV: actually [2668.16] MarioFPV: Build something for that [2670.64] MarioFPV: but uh at the moment [2673.28] MarioFPV: everything is [2675.04] MarioFPV: diy, so [2677.12] MarioFPV: I'm, just using foam around it and I secure it like that [2680.96] MarioFPV: And believe me I crashed several times nothing really happened. So [2686.4] MarioFPV: It's well, it's it's well protected. Yes. I flight [2690.96] MarioFPV: Is quite popular [2692.64] MarioFPV: Uh company and it makes it builds good frames. So [2696.56] MarioFPV: Also that yeah also that camera I have to say that it's quite durable [2701.84] MarioFPV: I mean you need to physically damage it [2705.04] MarioFPV: In order to break we were having that conversation earlier with uh, Wayne [2709.68] MarioFPV: that uh [2710.88] MarioFPV: I was accidentally [2712.96] MarioFPV: flashed the wrong bootloader [2715.36] MarioFPV: in both cameras [2718.4] MarioFPV: And I was able to recover them because there are so many [2722.4] MarioFPV: hidden [2723.84] MarioFPV: ports and pads in these cameras that you can actually [2727.92] MarioFPV: Unbrick them. I was able to break them and I unbricked them [2731.84] MarioFPV: And if you don't if you don't know how to do that, there are a lot of [2737.28] MarioFPV: developers [2738.48] MarioFPV: In our chat in our channel in the open ipc channel on telegram [2743.84] MarioFPV: But they are always there willing to help you guys. So [2748.16] MarioFPV: Please join us [2750.24] Stephen: Well, I guess one [2751.76] Stephen: Bonus is you don't have a ribbon cable anymore. Do you because the sensor and the board is is one. So exactly it's better [2759.04] MarioFPV: Yeah, exactly. You don't have that [2762.4] MarioFPV: And uh [2763.84] MarioFPV: I'm pretty sure that car gidden already knows that those ribbon cables. They don't tend to be so durable [2771.2] MarioFPV: Uh, it happened to me. I hated them to be honest, and I was so happy that we don't need them anymore [2778.0] MarioFPV: With these cameras [2780.0] MarioFPV: It's uh, it's one [2782.08] MarioFPV: One piece of all together all in one [2787.55] Curry: I'm just gonna say I don't know about how you're feeling steven, but it makes me excited and I have to try it [2793.63] Curry: And start getting my shopping list together to see [2796.51] Curry: How it's all about side here expect [2799.31] Curry: Some things from the marios. It's going to be a while [2803.47] Stephen: On the little quads, but uh, yeah, it's something I might have a go at on the bench [2807.71] Curry: Yeah, I think I think when you're testing this stuff out [2810.59] Curry: It's it's much less hassle to have more room than you need because you don't have to start messing around [2816.43] Curry: This is stuff you might want to take on take off again mess around with start messing around with and like put it back and forth [2823.47] Curry: And when you're talking about squeezing things in that's when you're like, okay, I'm at my final configuration [2828.75] Curry: Now i'm gonna start making bespoke pieces to get it in something much smaller than it was designed for [2835.73] Curry: Very exciting indeed [2837.73] MarioFPV: yeah, all right, can I can I can I ask something please just because I feel like [2844.13] MarioFPV: I am uh, I am actually representing the whole team [2848.37] MarioFPV: But I would really like to shut up their names in your life. So everyone knows [2854.29] MarioFPV: The people that they actually behind of behind all these so yeah, I would like to [2860.21] MarioFPV: To mention to to thank Vasiliev Cinco for of course, he's wbng [2865.11] MarioFPV: Bng [2866.31] MarioFPV: That uh, thanks to that [2868.87] MarioFPV: Open IPC [2870.39] MarioFPV: FPV exists [2872.07] MarioFPV: Because we have the full version of that [2874.39] MarioFPV: And open hd actually use that as well [2877.99] MarioFPV: I would like to thank uh, Igor [2880.47] MarioFPV: Zalato [2881.51] MarioFPV: I think I'm pronouncing correctly his last name [2885.11] MarioFPV: which is the owner of open IPC and um [2888.95] MarioFPV: Dimitri Illin the owner of majestic [2891.99] MarioFPV: Chronix [2893.27] MarioFPV: For the FPV version. He was the one who actually took the first open IPC camera and [2899.73] MarioFPV: inserted the wfbng in the first camera and that's how we had the first version of [2906.47] MarioFPV: He's the main the the main developer on FPV [2910.23] MarioFPV: version of open IPC [2912.39] MarioFPV: And then we have adre of course [2913.91] MarioFPV: I already mentioned him with who I am too for the nvr, which is the VRX [2919.43] MarioFPV: that we now have [2921.11] MarioFPV: and victor xda [2923.27] MarioFPV: Uh that he also [2925.75] MarioFPV: Started developing recently a few weeks ago [2929.43] MarioFPV: for [2930.39] MarioFPV: On that new camera the sigma star [2933.67] MarioFPV: There is a code [2935.67] MarioFPV: SC338Q [2937.83] MarioFPV: Which has the imx [2941.57] MarioFPV: 415 sensor that he has done all this [2945.11] MarioFPV: amazing job for the sigma star [2948.07] MarioFPV: Camera and then banding for his osd [2953.51] MarioFPV: And rd [2955.99] MarioFPV: Tipoman and [2958.55] MarioFPV: Kenny plus as a testers and also tipoman is an expert on atheros [2966.15] MarioFPV: Wi-Fi adapters that he is actually [2969.59] MarioFPV: able to help you with [2971.35] MarioFPV: even modifying the source code [2974.23] MarioFPV: inside the atheros [2976.23] MarioFPV: adapter, so and last but not least [2979.99] MarioFPV: narpat nara rana [2982.31] MarioFPV: That he actually helped me a lot and supports me in every step that I do [2988.47] MarioFPV: So you can see there are a lot of people [2990.95] MarioFPV: That they are they are involved on this project. It's not just me that i'm [2996.07] MarioFPV: Just publishing youtube videos for this project [3001.99] Curry: Yes, I know you asked some of them to come on but they didn't speak english well enough [3007.19] MarioFPV: Yeah, none of them can speak [3010.23] MarioFPV: That great english. I cannot speak so well english. I mean I can [3015.43] Stephen: I am [3017.11] Stephen: You're great. I'm here to do really well [3020.71] Stephen: But uh, yeah, man, like there's plenty people in this country who speak english worse than you do don't worry about it [3026.63] Jack: Yeah, okay natively. Yeah [3029.27] Jack: People who were born here. Yeah. Yeah, tony's one of them in it's like grunts. It's like [3034.39] Jack: I [3037.43] Jack: Had a question mark [3039.43] Jack: Yeah, mario. Um, I noticed like you mentioned you flew [3044.15] Jack: Clean flight and then moved straight to inav [3047.35] Jack: Um, did you ever try beat a flight or you just unaware of it or did the name put you off? [3054.31] MarioFPV: Because it's like yeah. Yeah. Yeah, of course. Yeah, I I flew a bit of flight, uh several times. Um [3061.35] MarioFPV: The the only downside about beta flight is that uh, it doesn't have a position hold [3067.83] MarioFPV: And it doesn't have all these [3070.39] MarioFPV: uh navigation systems that inav has [3073.35] MarioFPV: Which that's why that's the only thing that I prefer. That's why I prefer inav [3078.15] MarioFPV: It's just a personal preference. Nothing else and it will be support. It's it's fully supported. Also beta flight is supported by [3085.75] MarioFPV: by [3087.75] MarioFPV: By open ipc as long as there is an mav link [3092.71] MarioFPV: It supports open ipc it will work. Yeah [3096.79] Curry: I I think a lot of people when they hear mav link, they instantly think rd pilot [3100.63] Curry: But mav link is one of the telemetry options you can use in both beta flight and inav [3104.95] Curry: It's just a question of exactly telemetry signal you want to put out [3109.11] Curry: exactly, exactly [3111.19] MarioFPV: so [3112.23] MarioFPV: both inav and beta flight now support [3115.67] MarioFPV: mav link [3117.03] MarioFPV: And that's good news. That's really exciting news [3120.47] MarioFPV: because with mav link you can do [3123.19] MarioFPV: Serious ground stations not just uh us that we use them as fpv hobbies for freestyle or anything like that [3131.35] MarioFPV: You can use some professional equipment that you can actually do some serious serious long range [3138.87] MarioFPV: Like for example, you can sell it and you can fund the project [3142.55] MarioFPV: Yeah [3143.91] MarioFPV: There are some records of uh, 100 kilometers range [3148.71] MarioFPV: But not in the uk nice [3150.87] MarioFPV: Yeah, I was able to do someone a few kilometers [3155.19] MarioFPV: We're not supposed to go beyond line of sight but so [3160.15] Stephen: It's fine if you've got good eyesight [3162.71] Stephen: Yeah, I mean if you can see see a hundred just need bright leds and see 100k. It'll be fine [3167.83] Curry: We're bright leds. No, no joke. I could we flew well someone flew something at night and there was this big [3173.91] Curry: Pylon 10 kilometers away. He wanted to get to and he turned on these leds and we could still see it [3178.39] Curry: That's how bright they were [3180.07] Curry: Though line of sight 10k. No problem [3183.19] Stephen: Okay, so I I asked if you could fit them in a regular quad and someone said uh [3188.05] Stephen: q c z ek maybe similar because yek, uh have 3d printed case [3193.75] Stephen: And uh, yeah, so there's an image of the case. I found it. Um, there's a printables file [3198.71] Stephen: And I guess this is that this is the vrx board you've got inside your 3d printed case as well [3204.23] Stephen: um [3205.51] Stephen: We can look at the size of the vga board. I guess to see it's it's still quite large [3209.11] Stephen: but he's got some brass inserts and things it looks like a [3212.87] Stephen: Nice bit of kit and then I guess the usb wi-fi module that could be elsewhere in the quad behind it. Yeah [3219.35] Stephen: Of course. Yeah [3223.75] Stephen: I thought it might be uh, give people an idea of what you're looking at. I'm not sure how big that blue box is [3228.95] Stephen: Looks like it might be a bit smaller than like a hero 5 camera. Well, you got the cr [3235.59] Stephen: 2032 for scale. Oh, yeah cr 2032 [3238.95] MarioFPV: so on that on that 3d print i'm guessing that uh, [3243.11] MarioFPV: The those screws would go somewhere here and here, right? [3247.91] MarioFPV: How about do only the sides without the top? [3252.95] MarioFPV: And just hold the camera like a sandwich [3258.68] MarioFPV: Because that that was that would make reduce dramatically [3262.52] MarioFPV: The size of that 3d print like have only the sides of that 3d print instead of the whole because you don't really need the top [3269.96] MarioFPV: You already have the top of the carbon fiber, right? [3273.4] MarioFPV: And the bottom so it could be optimized [3276.04] MarioFPV: It can be optimized [3277.0] MarioFPV: Yeah [3277.48] MarioFPV: So like I said the more people that get involved the more professional people to get involved on that [3282.92] MarioFPV: The better it will become for everyone [3286.28] Curry: Cool [3287.64] Curry: Very nice, right? Very promising. I must build one [3292.52] Curry: Build them and it will come or something. It's just like yeah. Oh, here we are [3296.52] Curry: filled in the worst by 38 mil [3299.24] Curry: Sorry, is that the camera size or the box size? [3302.76] Stephen: someone read that out [3305.48] Stephen: The iplc cam is not bigger than a regular fc brackets 38 by 38 millimeters [3311.0] Curry: Wow, a regular fc is like 30.5 by 30.5. But yeah, it's not it's not giant [3317.48] Stephen: By 30.5 mounting holes you've got to remember there's over [3322.68] Stephen: Yeah [3324.12] Curry: So the weather is is not great lately [3327.32] Curry: but [3328.52] Curry: If I build one of these things, I suppose I can just like wait for the right day [3333.4] Curry: I suppose has anybody else been flying mario managed to get flying today? [3338.04] Curry: Lucky him. I thought about going out with a car, but it rained [3342.68] MarioFPV: I had a small window a very small window that it was quite sunny today at some point with [3349.56] MarioFPV: Scattered clouds, but yeah [3352.28] MarioFPV: For one hour. I was I was lucky so [3355.96] MarioFPV: I just couldn't wait for for that to test it because uh, we built it for the last [3362.52] MarioFPV: Nearly a month now [3364.68] MarioFPV: And yeah, I just wanted to go out and flight [3368.28] Curry: To be fair with one hour you even used all your light hose or you've crashed it and it won't fly anymore [3372.6] Curry: That's that's quite a long time to fly a single quadrant really, isn't it? [3376.6] MarioFPV: Yeah, well [3378.76] MarioFPV: When you go for a maiden flight for something that no one has ever flown before [3385.08] MarioFPV: You need to go through so many tests and check things and again and check again check again before because [3392.76] MarioFPV: If I crossed it, I wouldn't have a second one to test [3395.72] MarioFPV: I couldn't order another one. I had to wait from china to come and [3400.44] MarioFPV: Yeah, but I had to go through a lot of [3403.4] MarioFPV: Checks pre-checks pre-flight checks before I take off and that took some time [3409.64] MarioFPV: So I was able to do three good flights [3413.0] MarioFPV: Uh [3414.04] MarioFPV: The the the latency like I said was very very low. I was able to move the sticks and [3420.52] MarioFPV: No latency no delay at all [3423.72] MarioFPV: um at 90 frames per second [3426.2] MarioFPV: 1080p the only problem was like I said the settings I think I put the wrong settings and I had that [3435.08] MarioFPV: Blary when I was moving too fast. There were some lines coming out [3440.68] MarioFPV: from the objects [3443.16] MarioFPV: Yeah [3444.6] MarioFPV: So I suppose um because you that's something that we will work on [3448.44] Curry: Yeah, sorry because you you've measured the latency by sort of like filming a tv screen and you can sort of see [3454.36] Curry: The difference in in frames by counting it that way. Is there a way of uh, [3458.6] Curry: Calculating and you you obviously you you've learned dji as well. So you're aware that they can they put their little latency up [3465.08] Curry: Uh walks now. So does the same we did some [3470.68] MarioFPV: We did some latency tests, uh versus a screen with a high resolution timer a millisecond timer [3478.84] MarioFPV: And uh, we were able to have a 1080p 90 frames per second [3485.16] MarioFPV: 36 milliseconds [3489.0] Curry: Is is there a way of um, I have to say you can put it on the ass either [3494.2] MarioFPV: Yeah, I have to say it it was fluctuating. It wasn't [3498.12] MarioFPV: Solid all the time 36. It was going 36. It was going a little bit high then [3503.16] MarioFPV: Dropping and going up and up so and then that's wi-fi, isn't it? [3507.88] MarioFPV: Yes. Yes. Also, it's not only the wi-fi like I said, there is also an encryption to the system [3514.2] MarioFPV: And that could cause some spikes on the cpu users the w bng might actually [3520.04] MarioFPV: Add some a little bit latency because [3523.16] MarioFPV: In theory the wireless transmission [3526.76] MarioFPV: Is instant it's a zero it it travels with speed of light, right? [3532.12] MarioFPV: The wi-fi transmission the problem is that the encoder and the decoder [3538.12] MarioFPV: And the w bng that is also adding [3541.96] MarioFPV: Uh a little bit of latency if it spikes and usb and framing [3546.84] MarioFPV: Yeah, yes, but that's why we're not using usbs or anything. We we we are actually soldering everything. We try to do as small as [3555.24] MarioFPV: possible the the wires [3557.56] MarioFPV: Uh, we try to is it pco expressed [3559.56] MarioFPV: them [3560.92] Stephen: Sorry [3562.92] Stephen: I thought the what I thought the wi-fi connection was by the usb the usb protocol you mean you mean the usb protocol [3570.12] MarioFPV: Yes, yes, yes on that in terms of that [3573.08] MarioFPV: So the transmission is actually very very small the latency the majority of the latency is actually the encoder and the decoder [3581.8] MarioFPV: but these ones we managed to solve them by [3585.8] MarioFPV: This camera the new camera that has uh 120 frames per second or 90 frames per second [3594.32] Stephen: Is that much of a pipeline? I mean obviously we're doing 120 frames per second throughput, but like how much pipelining is there [3602.24] Stephen: From the point when a camera frame is recorded to when it's actually sent out [3608.58] Stephen: Is it is it are you sending out the frame before you're capturing the next frame is what i'm asking or is there like a buffer [3614.74] Stephen: Internally where it's buffering to go into the encoder and it might be holding three or four frames to be sent into the encoder [3622.34] MarioFPV: I don't know the answer. Sorry. I'm not so into engineering [3628.98] MarioFPV: I don't know where it's just ran. That's that's I think that's the weeds. It's fine. That's probably [3635.3] MarioFPV: In in majestic what is happening? That's what majestic is doing [3640.74] MarioFPV: But i'm guessing that every frame is encoded before it's been sent [3647.38] MarioFPV: It doesn't there is no buffer I think [3653.65] Curry: Because yeah, so it's it's straight out. So is it more like yeah sort of hd0 system. Here's the thing. There you go [3660.77] Curry: There's no um [3662.29] Curry: Sort of error correction. There's no two-way into basis. I didn't get that part of the frame send it again [3667.81] Stephen: So there's at least one frame buffer to do the encoding apparently so one frame [3673.09] Stephen: So that's not too bad if it's just one frame worth. Yeah. Yeah, I mean you also need it [3679.89] Stephen: Yeah [3680.93] Stephen: Because you know some systems if you're not careful and you're like copying the data multiple times [3685.25] Stephen: You can end up doing lots of copies before the data is sent, but it sounds like they've they've optimized that which is great [3691.81] MarioFPV: So also another important thing is the the screens the monitors [3697.49] MarioFPV: So for example, you can encode [3700.91] MarioFPV: 120 frames per second and decode also 120 frames per second, but the monitor will not support them [3708.85] MarioFPV: You will have 60 frames per second monitor. For example, the monitor also [3713.65] MarioFPV: Adds to the latency, right? [3717.17] MarioFPV: Or the goggles in our cases [3719.97] MarioFPV: So you will also need [3721.97] MarioFPV: I was thinking actually to to buy the hd0 goggles that has really nice really good lenses [3729.25] MarioFPV: inside [3730.13] MarioFPV: And the screens are very very good [3732.69] MarioFPV: Uh, so I was thinking actually to use them for open apc because they have a very low latency as goggles [3739.33] MarioFPV: only on the device of goggles [3742.13] Stephen: You can actually buy the oled modules if you want to go the whole hog like a sony micro display [3748.37] Stephen: And then you and 30 frames because there's actually a frame [3752.29] Stephen: Yeah, well there's a frame buffering [3754.77] Stephen: When you do the hdmi because you're doing an hdmi signal send and that's got to go through an hdmi encoder [3761.49] Stephen: Out of the chipset and then an hdmi decode before it hits the panel [3766.37] Stephen: So if you're able to drive the panel directly from the vrx, that would be optimal [3770.77] Stephen: That's why you know that the all-in-one goggles are typically faster than goggles with external module [3776.13] MarioFPV: So that is what uh andre [3778.45] MarioFPV: difficult [3779.25] MarioFPV: That is what andre which is also which is one of the engineers of the vrx [3785.49] MarioFPV: Is actually dreaming to do. I mean he's planning to do [3789.17] MarioFPV: a goggles a box box goggles actually [3792.77] MarioFPV: Uh that will actually have that capability to have low latency [3797.97] MarioFPV: these are in the future plans because [3800.37] MarioFPV: You were asking me also the future plans of this project is actually to [3805.01] MarioFPV: Try to to to to to to build hardware [3808.85] MarioFPV: With the existing companies that we have like improve the existing like other [3814.45] MarioFPV: all-edge displays [3816.69] MarioFPV: Or build goggles for that [3820.37] MarioFPV: For that system and maybe power back to the people [3824.37] MarioFPV: Yeah [3826.05] MarioFPV: Instead of having some companies selling us all this stuff you can actually do that as a as a community fpv community [3837.04] Curry: Very nice. This has been fantastic [3839.44] Curry: I've learned a lot and [3842.24] Curry: I've learned that I need to look at a lot of wikis mostly to find out a lot more [3847.76] Curry: It's like oh, here's a lot of information now. You need to go and go and learn it [3851.92] Curry: But I I think it's been a fascinating chat. It's very rare that um [3856.4] Curry: People come on and talk about stuff and it's like oh [3858.96] Curry: I must I must stop buying stuff and tap them on my keyboard and finding things but that's been absolutely fascinating. Thanks. Thanks maria for uh [3867.2] Curry: explaining [3869.2] Curry: a very complicated subject [3871.92] Curry: but hopefully [3873.6] Curry: We'll all go in and play with it and we can [3876.48] Curry: Sort of make it easier somehow by playing as a follow-up if people want to get more involved [3882.56] Stephen: Where can they find you where can they find the rest of the open ipc fpv team? [3887.04] MarioFPV: so open ipc website is open ipc dot org, right? [3892.64] MarioFPV: And there is also there are links there for our telegram [3898.32] MarioFPV: channels [3899.84] MarioFPV: I [3901.2] MarioFPV: recently [3902.64] MarioFPV: Created an official open ipc fpv system facebook group, which they can find us there as well [3911.04] MarioFPV: And yeah, we are there actively [3914.54] MarioFPV: supporting and helping [3916.24] MarioFPV: everyone [3918.16] MarioFPV: We want people to start getting involved when do this if they know how to to write source code [3925.6] MarioFPV: We are more than happy to accept their push request push [3929.18] MarioFPV: requests on pull requests on the github [3933.44] MarioFPV: um [3934.8] MarioFPV: and if someone's is happy to spare a couple of [3939.44] MarioFPV: pounds for the developers to [3942.48] MarioFPV: Just buy them a beer or a tea [3945.76] MarioFPV: Please do that because they truly deserve it because they started this [3951.52] MarioFPV: They bought their equipment to build something for everyone [3955.76] MarioFPV: And I think they deserve a few quids [3959.52] Stephen: Very cool. Thank you very much. Yep support the developers [3963.44] Stephen: Always better this the sooner this is going to happen [3965.44] Stephen: The better people have been complaining about dgi for years and to see a serious contender. It's fantastic. Thank you [3971.44] Stephen: Yeah, it was so um, yeah, we we've told people where they can go to find you or on facebook on the website and elsewhere [3978.88] Stephen: Um a big thank you to all the developers, please if you can contribute to ip open ipc [3984.4] Stephen: Do so help them to get hardware out and to you know, get customized hardware. That's better for fpv [3991.76] Stephen: And thank you very much for for mario for coming on and explaining it all [3995.76] Stephen: Um, thank you to our scrolling list of patrons at the bottom who help us do the show and keep us going week after week [4002.72] Stephen: Um, yeah [4004.8] Stephen: Curry you want to wrap it up? [4006.64] Curry: Yeah, so thanks to everyone on the call and let's say goodbye to jack who's down there [4013.2] Curry: Thank you for tuning in guys. Bye to mario. Thanks very much for coming on our special guest [4018.88] MarioFPV: thank you very much for making me feel so comfortable and uh for the invitation and [4025.28] MarioFPV: It really helped me also as a youtuber to [4029.44] MarioFPV: To improve a little bit and get out of my safe [4035.76] Jack: Yeah, you can have to do more talking and stuff believe in yourself, okay guys, I will [4043.84] MarioFPV: Thank you for making me feeling so comfortable. Thank you very much. I really appreciate that problem [4048.56] Curry: Let's say goodbye from steven with his lovely mustache [4051.6] Curry: Goodbye everyone. Have a good one. Catch you next time. Everyone's favorite curry kitten. Goodbye. We'll see you next week. Thanks for joining us [4059.04] MarioFPV: Bye [4062.0] UNKNOWN: Telemetry loss
