[520.59] Stephen: I was thinking more or less that the heat and things like you just hope that the cooling
[524.07] Stephen: solutions, you know, designed well and, uh,

[533.79] Stephen: If we can run it for 10 minutes, it's a little bit worrying now.
[536.43] Stephen: We're kind of like relying on these little fans and you don't normally think about making
[541.03] Stephen: sure there's airflow around your VTX.
[544.15] Stephen: Is it a challenge to fit those in?
[548.18] Curry: It's a bit thicker on the frame and the normal one I have to say, but so many frames now,
[553.66] Curry: because this is obviously analog, so many frames are longer so you can fit your digital
[558.22] Curry: VTX at the back.
[559.5] Curry: So it's not too much hassle normally to put one of these on the back of a longer frame.
[563.38] Curry: And normally these go in sort of a six or seven inch frame, which have a little bit
[566.22] Curry: more space.
[567.22] Curry: Get your air scoops in there.
[569.22] Curry: Yeah.
[570.22] Curry: But it is interesting how, what a difference just airflow of a quad will make.
[574.38] Curry: I mean, I guess, uh, you Steven and me and, um, perhaps like Tony with DJI, if you run
[582.3] Curry: your walks now, VTX on the bench to perhaps get some video off the internal memory.
[588.5] Curry: If you don't have a fan pointed at it all the time, it's running, it will get to like
[592.66] Curry: hundreds of degrees plus in a couple of minutes, but in the air, fly around, come back.
[598.14] Stephen: It's, it's, it's a fan.
[600.54] Stephen: Forget a fan.
[601.62] Stephen: This is what I use for my VTX testing a fan, a fan does not cut it.
[608.02] Stephen: I want to know if you can fly that.
[611.58] Curry: And I've got it on a 12-fold adapter.
[621.26] Stephen: So they're like PC fans.
[622.5] Stephen: I just adapt to a 12-fold like DC plug.

[626.74] Koel: So if you go digital, this way you need to be able to bench test everything.

[632.66] Stephen: So you could just run stuff indefinitely with a fan like that, but yeah, USB is absolutely

[638.22] Stephen: You don't have a fan on and like 90 seconds in, you can't touch it.

[649.7] Stephen: And you know, if you want to do a bunch of firmware updates, you just need a fan.

[662.06] Stephen: on some VTX and then think, Oh yeah, I've got to update it to fix this bug before I

[669.46] Stephen: Cause you do like half of an update and it got too hot and stopped.

[675.66] Stephen: That sounds like some of the walks now stuff they're actually replacing some kind of critical
[682.32] Stephen: parts of the, the, the VTX firmware in some of these new updates.
[687.1] Stephen: And if it crashes, you could break a VTX when you do that.
[690.06] Curry: So that's, yeah, they've got some sort of new, what is it a new kernel or something

[694.58] Curry: They changed the files from support.
[696.38] Curry: So it does like exFAT and stuff, which is all files now.
[701.18] Curry: So instead of four gig files, it's like one big one, but it's like, Oh, if you, if you
[705.14] Curry: power offs, you're in this, it's like game over, game over to your VTX is dead.

[710.9] Stephen: Cause you can trash most of it so long as you write that kernel file.
[715.4] Stephen: And if, if you have that kernel file, it'll like be able to bring it up and initiate the
[720.06] Stephen: flashing procedure again.

[1048.86] Stephen: to be no O3 again, reflash your old vistas to work with your three goggles, but you've
[1055.68] Stephen: got to put down 600 local currency units to get the latest goggles.
[1060.28] Stephen: And they're very, there's no cheap route into the DJI solution.

[1065.08] Tony: How much old is an O3, like one O3 camera and VTX and a hundred?

[1071.72] Koel: Just for the camera alone in Canada, it's like a hundred and 160 bucks goggles or six.

[1094.22] Stephen: It's about 50 quid per unit, more expensive than the original, which over like five years

[1101.48] Stephen: It's still annoying, but the quality is probably as good as like an action DJI action.

[1107.64] Koel: Man, it sounds so much better in your guys' currency because just for the goggles alone

[1116.42] Koel: Like, yeah, I think they're like, I think they're like 1300 bucks or something.

[1146.78] Curry: I think the problem still exists with DJI about it's up to DJI what they do and they
[1152.82] Curry: do it as a whim and they don't tell you what's coming and it's kind of a, we did this, take

[1158.42] Stephen: And even on beta flight, there's some stuff where it like doesn't render properly and
[1161.66] Stephen: every now and then I jump into the forums and someone's got a beta flight.
[1165.26] Stephen: Oh, you've broken my HD OSD display, blah, blah, blah.
[1168.22] Stephen: I have to say no.
[1170.58] Stephen: This is a DJI and they actually haven't added these symbols because you're on the edge trying
[1177.5] Stephen: to do some unusual use case and it's some, I don't know, some symbol that no one else
[1182.7] Stephen: uses pretty much and they just didn't bother to test it properly and it doesn't work.
[1187.94] Stephen: So if you're like a basic freestyle flyer, you're fine.
[1191.06] Stephen: If you're doing every single bit of the beta flight OSD, there's some stuff that doesn't
[1194.86] Stephen: work.
[1195.86] Stephen: And if you want to do iNav, it's pretty much just busted and you have to tell iNav to pretend
[1200.86] Stephen: it's beta flight or it doesn't work.
[1203.54] Stephen: Wobetide anyone doing autopilot.

[2300.89] Stephen: it would just snow out on me and I'd be relatively close to where I was flying and I was flying

[2310.29] Stephen: And there's just, uh, if you're going in a park in a city, there's just, you know,
[2315.97] Stephen: people blasting 5.8 gig wifi as much as they can.

[2324.49] Stephen: 20 houses backed onto it or blasting wifi out into the park.

[2329.57] Koel: Well, I will, I will say you're, that that's very valid because I was flying at this, um,
[2335.01] Koel: the ski Hill at one point that I had never flown that before.
[2338.29] Koel: And I didn't really take notice that there was like a little chalet type thing next door
[2342.61] Koel: with like massive antennas on it.
[2344.77] Koel: And I was like, uh, or, or dishes, whatever kind of thing, whatever was on it.
[2348.93] Koel: And I took off and I couldn't see anything.
[2352.17] Koel: Like I literally, I crashed my, like I took off and like, I was being all, you know, being

[2357.89] Koel: Then all of a sudden I couldn't see anything.

[2551.12] Stephen: solder straight onto the copper plug connectors on the back.
[2556.92] Stephen: And you can get like, you know, 1200 watt server power supplies and that's all on 12

[2562.76] Stephen: So it's a 1200 watt 12, 12 volt power supply, which is nice, but, um, yeah, we try and do

[2634.76] Koel: out for like an entire day of flying, like they'll, they'll bring, um, you know, they'll
[2639.48] Koel: bring like a field charger.
[2640.88] Koel: They'll be flying for six, seven hours.
[2644.4] Koel: And I've never really done that before.
[2646.52] Koel: It's always just been like a, you know, pull up, maybe, maybe half an hour to an hour or

[2652.76] Koel: Cause I mean, I don't have a million dollars.
[2654.76] Koel: Yeah.
[2655.76] Koel: Well, but did we fly the whole day though?
[2660.64] Tony: Whereas that may be not a whole thing, but I've got around it by having smaller packs.
[2666.4] Stephen: Like, so I've got maybe like 10 or 12 success, like big five inch packs.
[2673.08] Stephen: And then I've got a couple of like two amp power things for the seven inch.
[2676.44] Stephen: And then I've got smaller, like 700, five S, 700, four S, 600, four S for the smaller
[2683.96] Stephen: quads.
[2684.96] Stephen: And so I'll just have like a bunch of little shrapnel smaller batteries and fly those in
[2688.8] Stephen: between the five inch packs.
[2691.32] Stephen: And yeah, when I count all those up, it's not uncommon that I'll arrive at the field
[2696.32] Stephen: with like over 20 packs.
[2698.08] Stephen: And it's a kind of unusual to actually get through 20 packs, you know, or someone, or
[2706.12] Stephen: dog walkers, you know, or someone says, Oh, I'm so bored.

[2711.28] Koel: Well, see, for me, I feel like having to lug around that many batteries, because everything
[2716.92] Koel: starts to, like the weight starts to add up, like I never want to have to lug around more
[2722.6] Koel: than like one backpack.
[2724.08] Koel: Or maybe a backpack and like a bag that I can carry just, I don't know.
[2728.4] Koel: I mean, I've only ever had like seven or eight batteries anyway.
[2731.28] Koel: So it all fits in one of the small lipo bags, but yeah, 20 plus batteries and then having
[2737.08] Koel: a big, bring big chargers out and stuff.
[2739.2] Koel: It's just like, I don't know.

[2742.0] Stephen: But when I say 20 packs, they're like smaller packs.

[2813.8] Stephen: a volt every minute to doing it like 0.1 of a volt every five seconds and yeah, I've never

[2821.56] Koel: I just put like the sort of like overall, like the, what was it?

[2827.76] Koel: Um, voltage, the total voltage, oh, and oh, so, um, looks like off-axis said Purcell isn't
[2837.64] Koel: as accurate compared to a calibrated milliamp hour count.

[2843.02] Curry: I don't trust the mark out.
[2845.18] Curry: I've never had a, uh, the WhatsApp thingy, the stuff that measures it be accurate over
[2851.58] Curry: all ranges.
[2852.86] Curry: If you calibrate it at one range, it seems to go out.
[2855.42] Curry: If you fly differently, if you get it to the point where you can fly and you're pretty
[2858.82] Curry: consistent, then I think you can trust it.
[2861.46] Curry: But if you're, if you're going all over the place with different pro ranges, it seems
[2865.12] Curry: to go out to me.
[2866.12] Curry: Because if you've got old packs, well, the general idea is with these is you like, you
[2872.52] Curry: go out and you fly it and you see what, uh, how much mar it's taken, but then you look
[2878.56] Curry: at how much you have to put back in and then you, you adjust it compared to that calibration.
[2882.64] Curry: But it seems weird.
[2884.64] Tony: The easiest thing to do is just a timer, surely that's all I used to do.
[2890.76] Tony: Yeah.
[2891.76] Curry: I think when you're getting used to your sort of long range stuff as well, it's, it's kind
[2894.8] Stephen: of on a time, if you're flying up a mountain, you're going to be using exponentially more
[2901.84] Stephen: power to go up a mountain than, and then the dive, you're basically doing nothing.
[2906.48] Curry: So there's safety content, isn't it?
[2910.64] Curry: If you still treat it like a cave dive, use the rule of thirds, third going in, third
[2916.06] Curry: going out, and one third to go, Oh my God, we're lost with this long range.
[2923.56] Stephen: When the pack's charging and I always do a balance charge, I try and look and see if,
[2928.28] Stephen: is there always like one cell, which is just refusing to get up to voltage and just keep
[2933.84] Stephen: an eye on that?
[2934.96] Stephen: Because you know that when it, when it does that per cell readout, obviously I haven't
[2939.44] Stephen: plugged the balance cable into your flight controllers.
[2941.52] Stephen: The flight controller doesn't know of that.
[2943.64] Stephen: It's just looking at the overall voltage and guessing how many cells there are dividing
[2947.04] Stephen: it.
[2948.04] Stephen: And so if you've got a bad cell in there, your flight controller doesn't know that and you
[2950.8] Stephen: just got to kind of remember, Oh yeah, this, this, this pack got one cell that never seems
[2956.16] Stephen: to want to get to like 4.2, always just gets to like 4.15 and then doesn't quite charge.
[2962.24] Curry: Yeah.
[2963.24] Curry: If you've got a battery like that, don't use it for the final range.
[2966.96] Curry: That becomes what's called a bench battery.
[2969.12] Koel: Yeah.
[2970.12] Koel: I was watching, like when I was watching back a bunch of Falcon rad long range videos, like
[2974.68] Koel: he always seems to have a spotter that is kind of like keeping an eye on those things
[2977.92] Koel: for him.
[2978.92] Koel: Um, and, but you know, it does sound like they're yelling out, you know, X amount of
[2983.44] Koel: milliamp hours consumed.
[2985.52] Koel: Um, so I guess
[2988.12] Curry: Falcon red seems to have a partner that's so invested.
[2990.76] Curry: If I took my wife flying with me, she'd be bored.

[3159.0] Curry: And when I picked it up, it was just water streaming off this wing as well.
[3164.04] Curry: Couldn't fly that for the rest of the day.
[3165.04] Stephen: I thought the mist was really atmospheric here, like out in the fields one day, it was
[3169.24] Stephen: just really thick, like P super mist.
[3172.76] Stephen: And I went out, couldn't see more than sort of 10 meters, pretty sure there was no one

[3178.88] Stephen: But anyway, I had a nice fly and I couldn't, didn't record the first pack, but it, I had
[3183.84] Stephen: to land because there were droplets of moisture on the camera lens.
