Thank you to call us campus art folk now Sam Dharma on with the show [51.72] Jack: You're listening to let thrown out tonight you are joined by the man of my staff Steven. Hello. Good evening [58.6] Jack: and I am [61.72] Jack: Hello or Jack [64.4] Jack: Yeah, I haven't seen you for a while. Like you've been gone [69.76] Stephen: I've been hiding away [71.96] Jack: Yeah [73.24] Stephen: Yeah, it works being a bit crazy and a lot going on there and and to be honest [77.12] Stephen: I haven't really done much flying what with the state of the country is [81.72] Stephen: Like quagmire capital of Europe. I [84.76] Stephen: Know I'm not flying going on [88.68] Jack: Well, we were supposed to be talking to Carl, but unfortunately [94.56] Jack: He's not very well. Yeah, lost his voice Frank. He's [101.64] Jack: Got an ear infection. So I [105.08] Jack: Text him. I was like, hey feeling and I got the reply like a hamster in a tumble dryer [110.48] Jack: Oh wonderful, that sounds like a great step on manner. Yeah. Yeah all manner of things [116.96] Jack: Fluffy he must be [120.08] Jack: I know I that a poor little sausage. I [123.88] Jack: Hear the UK is now the highest exporter of mud in the world. It was like oh, there's some fantastic filth over here [133.16] Jack: I've been I have been playing with [137.4] Jack: Some of these batteries. I have given myself a nasty burn on my hand. It's not a nasty burn if we can't see it [145.6] Jack: Yeah, it's like [149.16] Jack: Does it go all the way through is it [152.6] Stephen: All the way through I [154.96] Jack: Know it was horrible [157.16] Jack: so I've kind of [160.76] Jack: There's now [162.32] Jack: There's now like several sizes of this battery [166.72] Jack: There's five hundred fifty [169.92] Jack: Miller [172.28] Jack: Millionth hour and then they went down for a little bit other ones of 500 milliamp and [180.44] Jack: Then there's 360 milliamp hour [184.88] Jack: Sales, so they're all sort of [191.6] Jack: No, they're all over the place I haven't successfully been like I've got enough of this size to build a pack [199.28] Stephen: Yeah, they're disposable. I would say from from experimentation [203.56] Stephen: Below 500 tends to get a bit dodgy [208.12] Stephen: Like yeah that they're they're never great when you get below but you can fly a whoop on them [213.84] Stephen: But you try and get like a 4s 300 milliamp hour and it just kind of farts out after about 20 seconds [221.84] Stephen: It's not like a linear relationship is it it's not like no you you have a 500 and a [228.4] Stephen: 250 is gonna give you half as much flight time like the 250 just like barely gets off the ground and it gets really hot stops [235.16] Jack: Yeah, so I've kind of given up. I kind of just took some and I've made [241.92] Jack: it [243.36] Jack: into a [244.76] Jack: Like that's powering a gameboy [247.76] Jack: Um, okay, so I've done so I've done that that's kind of the only sort of like electronic stuff [253.92] Jack: I can really work on because they're small [257.6] Jack: Haven't really got much space [259.84] Jack: and [262.84] Jack: Yeah, and then like I've been [266.4] Jack: You know back when I actually had my 3d print out. I was like making little packs that like just power stuff [274.92] Jack: But I was trying to [277.48] Jack: Well, I thought the old fat shark goggle battery [282.76] Stephen: Yeah, I mean if there's one wet one place you want to put discarded lipos of dubious provenance [289.76] Stephen: Personally would strap. It's my face. Yeah [292.32] Jack: Bang on. Yeah, well it was it was you know doing that and then trying to like make a little USB [297.64] Jack: Time C charger for it. I mean you could keep it in your pocket or whatever [302.4] Stephen: Yeah, you could always just put it next to your nuts instead [305.32] Stephen: I mean that would be my second choice after my face, I guess. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah [310.84] Jack: Well, you got hoodie pockets [313.6] Jack: No, it's not a little bit further away from your balls [319.44] Jack: Just yeah [321.6] Jack: Just ordered a fat shark battery. Yeah, exactly. Yeah, it's pointless now. It's like fat shark goggles are like not a thing anymore [330.32] Jack: Like no one's ever but I was just trying to like think of like useful [335.12] Jack: It's a good idea like a little project to do like, you know [339.2] Stephen: Do you maybe improve the flame retardants just in case the worst happened? [344.36] Stephen: Like is there is there a safety measure option available with your 3d printing on my own skills [350.96] Jack: No, I think you'd have to like fabricate metal boxes and stuff [354.4] Stephen: Just put a beeper on there. So it goes if it goes like over 30 30 degrees [359.12] Stephen: It like starts beeping like crazy and you can just take it out of your pocket and throw it [364.6] Jack: well, I've been trying to like there's like this which I found as [371.08] Jack: a vape battery and [373.48] Jack: Like I've been looking at charge ships and it won't plug. Ah, there you go. And it's got like a little [381.72] Jack: It's got like a little pound. Let me let me just [386.32] Stephen: know cold saying you can't find fat shop packs anywhere now really and I think [392.2] Stephen: It's been probably four years since fat shark released an analog goggle, right? When did the HDO twos come out? [398.6] Stephen: I think that I remember Andy RC reviewing them and he hasn't done videos in quite a while [404.48] Jack: So Oscar was flying [406.48] Stephen: That's what I'm saying, but you're basically you've got antique goggles fat shocks [415.88] Stephen: Slight with those cars that do the London to Brighton run at like 17 mile an hour. That's that's what fat shot goggles are [424.52] Jack: Hang on. Have I got a yeah [427.68] Jack: BSD [428.84] Jack: There you go. Look little hundred percent thing. It's got like a little [433.4] Stephen: I [434.44] Stephen: Fearlessly to comment [436.44] Stephen: events to the rear [441.01] Jack: Events to the rear. Yeah, I suppose that's one way of doing it. But yeah, I've been I've been trying [446.41] Jack: I mean, you know, I've been trying to make little PCBs and like [452.09] Jack: Designing more of that stuff [455.05] Jack: What little pieces and BMS type PCBs then? Yeah, but I've [461.13] Jack: like the battery [463.05] Jack: power regulation is a [466.77] Jack: dark art form [469.69] Jack: It really is it really [473.65] Jack: You put together a circuit [476.25] Jack: You know that you think it's gonna do a certain thing [481.05] Jack: It doesn't work or it doesn't perform in the way you think yeah, and it's a real sort of [486.05] Jack: you do have to sit there with loads of different parts and [490.65] Jack: Actually put it together and see how it performs right and [496.85] Jack: You have to do like weird things like stay [499.65] Jack: with like certain vendors and stuff so that you know like [505.17] Jack: Because you get like some clone chips and perform differently so you like you buy something on eBay and [512.01] Jack: It doesn't work at all like [515.21] Jack: How the chip that you got from like Mouser [519.05] Stephen: Works and then you do a border in China and they use whatever's cheapest and you end up with [525.69] Stephen: Performance being yeah, don't question mark [528.33] Jack: Yeah, or you get like end of life stuff [532.17] Jack: You know like for the time you sort of like start making the product [535.65] Jack: there's like there's a lot of stuff that's kind of [538.77] Jack: you know is kind of sat there and [542.57] Jack: It you know, it was like [545.21] Jack: you know made [547.21] Jack: after covered and then [549.73] Jack: Now we're the other side of it [551.33] Jack: There's a big like, you know a couple of million of those chips or a hundred thousands of those chips [557.01] Jack: And they're slowly being used and then when they go to request some more they go and no longer exist [562.93] Stephen: Yeah, they're like the individuals. Yeah [567.25] Jack: Yeah, like [569.81] Jack: Yeah, like, you know who's gonna yeah, who do we go to like, you know, like, you know [575.53] Stephen: Yeah, just order them ten times the price from some individual who's put money Bay or Ali Express. Yeah [581.97] Stephen: pretty much, yeah, I [584.65] Stephen: Notice that was a similar problem to a mustard Tigers project. Do you remember mustard tiger who was on here talking about his [593.69] Stephen: Radio the I now have radio thing [596.97] Stephen: Where it would show you the position of other people on the screen [600.49] Stephen: And he had this yeah, he had this little doodad that would hook up to your GPS and feed data into the flight controller [607.17] Stephen: Well, he was working on an ADS-B like many ADS-B receiver projects as well [613.13] Stephen: and he'd done the calculations and thought he was gonna get in excess of like [617.77] Stephen: 10k range easily be able to pick up signals from [621.89] Stephen: 2030 K away and he built the thing and it was like one kilometer at best [627.77] Stephen: Yeah, it's just like yeah, this didn't work out the way it's supposed to and none of the chips form the way they're supposed to [636.33] Jack: Yeah, really [640.69] Jack: Yeah, it really is something else cold cold was just in the chat [645.97] Jack: He goes can't wait to come do a show and tell you about my trips with you guys. It looked like such a good trip [652.41] Stephen: Yeah, they did [655.37] Jack: That's pretty impressive. Yeah, I've seen some of the footage is incredible [660.05] Jack: I'm like so proud of him, you know, like I don't want to like to make it about myself [666.49] Stephen: But you have you there. That's what you've just done. No [670.21] Stephen: Yeah [673.13] Stephen: About myself but by saying that I'm strongly implying that it's all down to but like [679.53] Jack: It's just like, you know teaching some stuff teaching everything I do know and like can know [686.93] Jack: and most of everything I know and then this is Dom the reason why the show this and then he [693.93] Jack: You know and then he's kind of gone on to be like I want to do long range and I'm like [698.61] Jack: Look the way I went about it was fixed wing because if you want to fly a long range and far [703.77] Jack: This is how I go about it and then he's got his iron idea and he's like [711.57] Stephen: Childs online in Canada and teach them don't don't put it like that [720.97] Jack: You know [722.29] Jack: Like if anyone's gonna molest anyone he will molest me way more we can feeble than he is [730.85] Jack: But currently not at the moment as he's ill [736.33] Jack: But yeah, I'm I'm sure like, you know [739.29] Jack: Like going to this guy when we were first friends and being like I'm from the UK [744.29] Jack: I you know, I like your music. I want to be friends with you and him being like [749.25] Jack: You know and then him then chatting to him a lot of people like what is the deal here? [755.61] Jack: but [756.93] Jack: You know like I don't know just he's he's good guy. He's my friend. He's been my friend for a very long time [763.01] Jack: I think we're good friends [765.25] Jack: I'm moody because I got a sore ass all the time [768.69] Jack: They have to you know, cuz like he's all like chippity and like hey, you know [773.61] Jack: Canada and you know [775.61] Stephen: Like what a lovely day. I'm just a Monday again. I know the great day [780.77] Jack: Yeah, I know I'm just like [782.89] Jack: Cough [784.05] Jack: Like yeah, I'm like my insides hurt. You're way too chippy. I hate you. I hate everything [791.29] Jack: Go away and obviously his Canadian this doesn't understand that it's like but I thought we were friends [797.41] Jack: All he does is tell her to cough [800.01] Jack: Angry, I'm not angry at you [804.13] Stephen: Yeah, lovely well, I hope he feels better soon [807.29] Stephen: Whatever he caught is a minor interruption [810.93] Jack: Yeah, I don't know why he's friends with me, but it's cool. It's cool to see someone like [816.77] Jack: Go off with like some of the knowledge that's trickled down from you because I've I've learned stuff from like so many people being [824.17] Jack: On here David in the store, you know like tuned my first quad [829.49] Jack: Like you know, there's always there's always stuff to learn you teach me stuff as well [835.33] Stephen: You know, I hope we're gonna start you interesting bits and pieces. It's felt like the last four months have been [842.69] Stephen: Pretty dead, but there's not been a lot of news [845.89] Stephen: It's been slow slow slow like a bit of a plateau almost which happens in technology [851.85] Stephen: I think like if you you look back over technology [854.69] Stephen: There's these big leaps where people discover stuffs possible and all of a sudden everyone goes crazy [860.13] Stephen: And they go crazy for a period of a couple of years and then it solidifies [865.61] Stephen: You start out with a whole bunch of plucky little upstart companies [868.85] Stephen: A bunch of them go broke and you end up with a few major players left and everything sort of slows down [874.53] Stephen: and it feels like [876.25] Stephen: We're in one of those stages right now where everything's consolidated a bit and it's slowed down, you know [881.69] Stephen: Express LRS is relatively mature now all the flight controller firmware is relatively mature [887.49] Stephen: That the hardware that we're getting for like digital FPV and things it's it's fairly mature [893.13] Stephen: There's not a lot of upheaval in that space. It's just more a culture of iteration. And so I'm kind of wondering [899.65] Stephen: What this year is gonna bring? I'm sure there's a few interesting things and I'm aware this [905.21] Stephen: it's a little bits of pieces that are coming but it feels like we might be in for just a a [911.61] Stephen: Minor release here and there and not a massive upheaval. I don't know [916.61] Stephen: Do you see anything coming over the horizon this year? I? [920.09] Jack: Don't I don't know. Let's [922.85] Jack: Check this come back to that. Let's have a thing. I mean let's come back to that Dom. Hello. Thank you for joining [930.81] Dom: All right, how are you doing? [933.41] Dom: Yeah, it's called you this afternoon. I thought I'd pop in and see how let's join in it out is fearing [939.61] Dom: having yeah, so [941.61] Jack: Yeah, Steven. This is [945.57] Jack: D2 [947.09] Jack: or Dom as we know him he [950.89] Jack: Started the first mini air show and I attended there [958.21] Jack: It and that's how we met and he is one of Thursday night show DJs and [965.25] Jack: He had me come on and chat to him as he was like damn I wish there was like the UK [972.49] Jack: drone podcast [974.49] Jack: And that's how it got started [976.93] Jack: So he's the reason we're all old [980.77] Dom: Yes [984.89] Dom: I flew a couple of weeks ago actually for the first time in six months or something [989.97] Dom: Took the maverick out. I'd do a site site survey for someone and I called up my friend Ben who's [999.17] Dom: Gadget he flies for the BBC and so he's really up to date with all his air law and stuff and [1005.49] Dom: He he brought me up to speed actually. Oh, it's been quite a bit of change since I last flew [1010.69] Dom: so yeah, he took his he took his [1013.89] Dom: Well, yeah, he's got a little mini which he took up and I took my maverick air up and we just buzzed about on [1021.29] Dom: Hailing Island Beach for a bit taking for shots of a site that's going to be used for a festival for a friend of mine [1027.09] Dom: I was good. That's fun. Yeah [1030.93] Stephen: Any self-built stuff [1032.93] Dom: Used to fly this baby actually, which I haven't flown for ages and I should take up. I will warn you [1040.25] Jack: Stephen don [1042.17] Jack: Don still uses da free sky [1045.73] Jack: Hey, I only just got a tyrannous for his 50th birthday from [1052.05] Stephen: You know the kids need examples like this and when his when his craft disappears over the horizon [1058.61] Stephen: Make you run [1061.33] Dom: Me no disappear up. It'll disappear up. I'm afraid that's always been my sin. I like taking my joint up [1068.41] Stephen: What's your safety value? [1070.49] Stephen: 100% boy [1074.01] Dom: Always fly over sheep [1077.21] Stephen: That's one of Jack's names as well he's trying to he's trying out a new style of weaving actually [1084.33] Stephen: Progress, but if he gets powerful enough motors, I think he's onto something. I [1089.37] Dom: Want to find out something? I think it's exactly ten years ago that we did the first mini air show [1097.17] Dom: It might know [1099.17] Dom: whore lies [1102.05] Dom: Hold on a minute. I'm just looking it up. Just a minute. I've got to go and find the old website [1106.01] Jack: I I don't know what new and back to your question. I don't know what he's new and over the horizon [1113.77] Jack: as we've now I [1116.77] Jack: I [1120.73] Stephen: Stickers on existing products, that's what's new and exciting you take the products you're selling in 2023 [1126.17] Stephen: And you get someone like yourself Jack to print an AI sticker and you put it maybe at the top right hand side of the logo [1133.21] Stephen: And it looks edgy and new but it's basically the same thing [1137.69] Stephen: This is like flight one with the AI filters that were just the same filters, but with AI branding [1145.05] Stephen: It's all in marketing. If you work in IT, this is like a familiar shtick, right? [1152.78] Stephen: I think [1154.78] Dom: If you work in IT, then essentially AI has stormed its way on stage down a line of coke and elbert everything else off the [1160.78] Dom: Stage at the moment. Yeah, stop and ask anyone what AI is they can't define it. It's too busy. It was my first degree [1167.82] Dom: And it really gives me off that people use the term. Do you do like neural networks and stuff like that then back in the day? [1175.26] Dom: I was in the early 90s [1177.34] Dom: So terms like neural networks haven't really emerged. They're sort of floating around as ideas back the cogs at that stage [1183.66] Dom: Yeah, it was [1186.86] Dom: Apart from adding big data [1189.26] Dom: Really nothing has changed in the last decade apart from ai's become a trendy label to stick on everything with machine learning big data in it [1195.66] Dom: So but anyway, they'll stick machine learning and big data systems into your drones somehow because it will get investment [1202.3] Stephen: We're you know making the things safe and let's face it with the amount of compute these things can carry it is all basically bs [1208.86] Stephen: Because nothing has sufficient enough compute to do anything but the most basic the basic inference. It's all [1215.5] Stephen: smoking mirrors in marketing [1217.34] Stephen: cutting-edge rotor riot news [1219.58] Stephen: Ledrib is no longer president. He's now moved to a more senior leadership role [1225.26] Stephen: Uh, so what is the old adage something about promotion and ability? [1229.98] Stephen: Um, anyway, uh bubbies mom is now running the shop [1236.02] Stephen: Because uh, mom is one of the execs of rotor riot, which is why bubbies there or bubbies mom is [1242.82] Stephen: An exec because bubbies there we never did get to the bottom of that [1246.9] Stephen: Yeah, he's now more senior than president [1248.98] Stephen: So like if you thought you were getting a load of weird waffly bs before it's going to be exponentially worse now [1257.06] Stephen: Good luck [1259.86] Jack: Uh, i've got i've got a [1262.82] Jack: I've got a thing any any views expressed by any guests on this show or personal may not reflect the view of others [1269.86] Jack: You don't get to know [1273.14] Stephen: And if anyone wants that you should get check out the you don't get to know walk snail mega mechs [1278.1] Stephen: Which I think is on youtube that really that just carries it [1282.82] Stephen: Everything you need to see [1284.66] Stephen: Does bobby's mom even fly? [1286.82] Stephen: Boy [1288.18] Stephen: No [1289.14] Stephen: Well, not on camera. Maybe she has I mean her son probably has a whole bunch of [1295.78] Stephen: Maybe she's just well organized because it is really [1299.06] Stephen: A marketing company, isn't it? It's not a flying company [1302.9] Stephen: They've always just been a bunch of people who acted to get advertising interests [1308.34] Stephen: By well-funded individuals, right rotor riot. They were funded by who funded them to start with [1314.18] Stephen: Sent them out to violence and things [1317.14] Jack: No, um lauren [1319.62] Jack: Industries or whatever. Yeah oil company and then it moved to like red cat or whatever [1325.86] Stephen: So it's always just been something to get pressed for someone else then [1329.38] Stephen: It's always been a company that was just there to to get eyeballs [1334.02] Stephen: And this is their latest iteration of getting eyeballs [1339.36] Jack: So where did you fly don? [1342.32] Dom: Uh hailing islands down at hailing islands on the beach [1348.19] Dom: But uh, I wasn't aware that so many of the laws had changed. I didn't realize I could now fly [1356.35] Dom: Effectively fly for someone for a third party, you know, it wasn't a commercial engagement, but I could [1363.39] Dom: Someone else asked me to fly for them to get some footage [1367.39] Dom: And that certainly changed since I last [1370.27] Dom: Sort of queried the law [1372.43] Dom: Um, which was interesting [1378.42] Dom: So, I don't know when all that when did all the laws get upgraded is that in the last couple years [1384.42] Jack: Yeah [1385.62] Jack: That was a while ago [1388.42] Jack: Was it now? [1389.78] Jack: Yeah, we're now like freaking out about [1393.46] Jack: when uh [1395.78] Jack: You know [1397.06] Jack: When our exemption is going to run out [1399.86] Jack: Yeah, the because they've they've gotten [1402.58] Jack: rock and dick hard for the [1404.9] Jack: Uh [1407.76] Jack: Classification of what what you know what drones are [1415.38] Jack: Um [1418.35] Jack: You know like uh all the new [1422.51] Jack: Like models fall into sort of like a classification that have been built and [1430.03] Jack: Matt has determined by like weight and how far they can go and [1436.1] Jack: um [1437.7] Jack: Yeah, like essentially what you're using them for and at the moment we've you know the sort of like self [1445.7] Jack: built sort of I've fallen to like like this legacy category, but as soon as that sort of like runs [1452.82] Jack: runs out and then [1455.3] Jack: I guess it'll be like [1457.22] Jack: I don't know [1458.34] Jack: I don't I don't know what they expect from us [1461.14] Jack: if uh [1462.58] Jack: If you're flying a self-built drone [1466.34] Jack: That's like unclassified [1468.9] Jack: Yeah [1469.86] Jack: You know, you could you could register it, but it wouldn't have a classification. So what do you have to go to? [1476.82] Jack: Like the drone and this thing to the police they can have it destroyed. You have to stick some really small paper wings on it [1484.1] Stephen: That's what you have to do [1485.86] Stephen: stick some tiny little like [1488.26] Stephen: 20 mil long paper wings on the side of your drone and it's now a fixed wing aircraft [1493.54] Stephen: And uh, and then just yeah now you can slice 100 meters [1497.86] Dom: so [1501.7] Dom: I got the impression that the laws [1503.86] Dom: To some extent the mission when I sort of last been focused on the drone world a couple of years ago [1508.9] Dom: The mission had been to simplify [1511.3] Dom: So that everyone he every six year old who bought a drone from a shop had some basic idea of safety [1517.14] Dom: But it sounds now like it's got a whole whole load more if then this if then that if then this [1524.26] Dom: So it sounds like it's a whole lot more complicated actually [1527.14] Stephen: Yeah, they decided that the terms they used before they were going to completely replace [1531.86] Stephen: So just when people had kind of got up to speed with the legislature as it stood [1536.34] Stephen: They wiped it all off the table and said well now we're doing this [1540.1] Stephen: And some of it lines up with what was there before but in a number of crucial ways it doesn't [1545.06] Stephen: So it's just like we learn everything from scratch and everyone [1548.82] Stephen: starts at square one again [1552.34] Dom: Yeah, andrew's points true turns out simple rules need more exceptions by the way andrew you were right it was uh, [1559.2] Dom: 2015 i've got the both the websites out. Do you want to see them for [1563.28] Dom: Reminiscence sake hold on. Please do. Yes [1566.26] Stephen: Find the marks now. You don't get to know mega mechs. I can't find it. Maybe it was a takedown, I guess [1571.62] UNKNOWN: Wait [1572.98] Dom: So here you go. Here is the first mini air show website that probably rings a bell [1578.5] Dom: Some of the videos don't work anymore. It's like going on the way back machine [1582.98] Jack: Almost looking very 90s [1585.3] Jack: this website [1587.38] Jack: This video is unavailable. I wonder what video that was [1591.78] Dom: Oh, it's a little promotional video. We have we switched it for like an hour. I was recording and then this was the second year [1598.42] Dom: Which was way bigger. I won't play this all but [1604.32] Dom: But there's some good footage in this [1606.48] Dom: Do you remember we ran quite a big competition for the um [1609.84] Dom: Best video of the show [1611.84] Dom: And quite a lot quite a lot of submissions [1615.28] Jack: Some of these were great first person view on [1619.12] Jack: On here anymore [1621.12] Dom: I don't know if any of the spots exist. This is a fossil fossil stuff still does doesn't it? [1625.52] Jack: Yep [1628.08] Jack: I don't no longer exist a line track still do I don't know about rotor racing radio c don't exist anymore [1637.3] Jack: and mini air show [1640.02] Jack: Frank needs a good old blow in the cartridge and reboot all the sounds of it [1646.88] Jack: It was a good these are the scouts [1650.74] Jack: Say what you see Dom say what you see because it's an audio podcast as well [1655.06] Dom: This was the this is the this is the racing track wasn't it? [1657.86] Dom: I didn't really get over to the racing tracks. There's so much stuff going on that day [1661.38] Dom: but quite a lot of quite [1663.62] Dom: Well, I would have said at the time certainly a lot of the leading flyers in the uk came down for it. It was a real [1670.82] Dom: real buzz [1672.58] Dom: and uh [1674.02] Dom: We got quite a lot of fun footage [1677.82] Jack: Was this the year that for s got discovered? [1682.3] Dom: Um, I can't remember no I [1685.9] Dom: Because then we this was the [1689.26] Dom: This was the day [1691.74] Dom: I had a very big day at the school and then we went over to the campsite [1698.54] Dom: We had the screen for the weekend [1701.66] Dom: So everyone could watch it [1704.06] Dom: Although frankly, nobody did everyone was here watching on their goggles on and on this on the hot day. It was good [1711.02] Dom: Let's see where we get to [1713.34] Dom: So there's what's his name [1716.14] Dom: Sky News came down. We had loads of [1719.18] Dom: TV coverage that was quite fun [1721.42] Dom: I was a chat. There was one guy who's used to everyone was into Gary something [1727.5] Jack: Gary Kent [1728.86] Dom: Yeah, he was flying like a monster that day [1731.98] Jack: Steve Stevens like literally like this is prehistoric [1737.02] Jack: This is like watching dinosaurs and roam you're muted buddy [1741.58] Dom: Steam powered drones [1743.74] Dom: It was fun. I quite enjoyed pulling it all together. It was um, and uh [1748.22] Dom: I was tired at the end of that weekend. I'm seeing and you're at the end of it. It was a good turnout there [1754.67] Jack: Yeah, I think this was [1757.87] Jack: The time was this the third year [1762.16] Dom: Uh, this is the second year [1766.08] Dom: Was the two-day event and then and you took it over after that [1770.32] Dom: That was when [1771.68] Dom: I don't know what they call rotor racing. No [1775.52] Dom: Yeah coordinated the race [1778.96] Dom: And we didn't go through the barns that year because everyone had smashed all their drones trying to fly through that window in [1784.32] Dom: In the hidden valley. It was just like let's not do that. It's gonna be more fun for everyone to fly a bit [1792.11] Dom: It was a good place to fly anyway [1794.11] Frank: This episode was recorded in front of a live online audience downloaded and edited to make sense when it played audio only [1800.75] Frank: Censored to please the itunes people hosted on the internet forwarded through to your podcast provider [1805.53] Frank: Downloaded playing on your device and is now playing in your ears all thanks to our patreons [1811.31] Frank: Consider joining them and you'll also get other online benefits find out more at patreon.com [1817.79] Frank: Let's drone out [1820.03] Jack: Now now drones are a bit more hardy, but now it just kills gopros [1826.83] Jack: It's costing me like [1829.07] Jack: 15 quid every time I go down there because I might smash it and default [1835.63] Dom: Brad has mastered it in the end. Didn't he used to be able to fly through those windows with his eyes closed [1842.72] Dom: That takes brings back memories [1844.96] Dom: Do you remember that was in the days when tussocks police used to turn up and fly with us and were really into it [1850.4] Jack: Yeah, I know instead now they just beat us [1854.4] Stephen: Yeah, what was yeah, unfortunately the the media's turned it into this adversarial relationship and [1863.66] Stephen: Unfortunately, the the people that are supposed to be helping seem to be more worried about [1868.24] Stephen: someone impinging on their [1870.96] Stephen: Their traditional [1872.56] Stephen: model flying stuff than doing any sort of support for drones and [1877.2] Dom: Yeah, i'm skirting [1878.56] Dom: I'm skirting around getting myself a ham radio license [1881.28] Dom: I've kind of been meaning to do it for years and I just thought i'd sit down and do it [1884.8] Dom: And uh, I think it's the same. Um, I think it's much the same [1888.88] Dom: uh, sort of community, you know, you've got old school people who want to um, [1893.12] Dom: just morse code at each other and and say oh it's morse coded a little bit further than someone else and [1898.72] Dom: Got a generation who's come through on [1900.88] Dom: On instant messages and they just don't get about that and we're interested in sdr and sending data [1907.84] Stephen: In front of it call it a day [1909.84] Dom: exactly, yeah [1911.92] Dom: It's all good [1913.6] Dom: Uh, yeah, and the um, no, uh, no satellite receiver. I think it's got about four or five thousand stations running it now [1919.84] Dom: So I was quite pleased with that [1922.0] Dom: Uh, I haven't actually got one running. I haven't had one running since my office flooded [1925.92] Dom: And since it's got fixed [1927.2] Dom: I haven't wanted to drill a hole in the wall and run the air antenna back into the building [1931.44] Dom: I should do at some point but yeah quite tough that the [1935.12] Dom: little raspberry noa [1936.72] Dom: Software that i put together with a couple of people a couple of years ago just went bonkers over the pandemic [1942.56] Jack: Uh be my hand in with radio for a while. It's very impressive. I'm i'm looking forward to you [1951.81] Jack: trying to find a [1956.35] Jack: uh [1957.23] Jack: You know a module and running. Um [1963.47] Jack: Running uh express lrs [1966.43] Jack: That's what we need to do. Dom [1969.15] Jack: the new [1971.71] Jack: Lrs [1972.75] Jack: Yeah, what's that? What's that? Even would you like to explain? [1976.99] Jack: I didn't have a question. Sorry. I was answering somewhere else. What was that? [1980.67] Jack: Now Dom's got a tyrannis. He can run express lrs [1985.79] Stephen: Uh, I wouldn't recommend it on a tyrannis. I'd probably recommend getting a new radio [1991.31] Stephen: I had enough trouble trying to support jack. Just burn it [1997.07] Dom: Come on [1999.07] Dom: What is it? What is it? What's lrs? [2001.95] Jack: um, it's [2004.03] Jack: uh a receiver [2006.27] Jack: It's a like open source [2008.59] Jack: um [2010.19] Stephen: It's it's as cheap as chips long-range system that out forms the old fr sky stuff [2016.17] Stephen: massively and uh, you're very unlikely to get fail safes and it's very [2020.99] Stephen: very cost effective as well and [2023.39] Stephen: Fairly easy to use and flash and as little web ui to tweak the parameters on the receiver and things which is all very nice [2031.23] Stephen: But yeah, the old ranises are a little bit finickety much like with crossfire you have to kind of [2037.39] Stephen: Open them up and um work around some of the limitations that fr sky built into the radio [2043.07] Stephen: So once you've done that it should be plain sailing, but it can be a bit of a pain to [2048.43] Dom: Get anyone built. There's anyone has anyone taken something like a hack rf and modeled up a completely software driven remote remote control? [2056.75] Stephen: uh [2057.71] Stephen: strs are nice, but they're stupid expensive so that tends to be the thing that stops people like a bunch of people a [2063.79] Dom: Bit like a bit of it like cloud computing when it started it was expensive [2067.15] Dom: But then as it suddenly got nice and makes it much cheaper quick [2070.43] Dom: And I just wondered if anyone's ever [2071.95] Stephen: Experiment when we had actually the guys on from open hd a while ago and they said oh, well, we we looked at [2078.43] Stephen: software defined radios [2080.51] Stephen: And this was going to be very you know, a great opportunity and we could do everything we wanted [2085.79] Stephen: but the price point was [2088.51] Stephen: Outlandish like they couldn't really get it down to more less than kind of 50 quid a unit [2094.75] Stephen: Which is just a lot for the the actual radio chip itself [2099.79] Stephen: And when you bundle all the other electronics around that obviously it's going to cost more [2104.27] Stephen: uh, so yeah strs are still [2107.07] Stephen: That they're great [2108.51] Dom: Did you not do it as an outboard on a laptop and just use the laptop keys as the controls control interface? [2114.27] Stephen: It's great when you're running just one model, but if you want to put one of these in all of your fleet of like 20 quads [2122.03] Stephen: Then you're going to be spending an absolute mint. So what express [2126.03] Dom: I was thinking on the control on the controller and not on the receiver end [2129.55] Stephen: Well, you need a one on both you need to have the same radio chip set on both [2134.43] Dom: Okay [2136.82] Dom: Because there's going to basically there's no standard interface on those receiver chips then [2141.94] Stephen: But what they've done is they've used a laura which is like a long range low rate link [2147.94] Stephen: So they've used a laura chip set on both ends, which is what crossfire uses [2153.22] Stephen: Except they found there's a 2.4 gigahertz version of that [2156.26] Stephen: So it gets much faster update rate albeit slightly less signal penetration [2161.62] Stephen: And that's what most of them are built around and they've got a price point of basically a tenor for a receiver now [2168.82] Stephen: Which is pretty good considering where you know 2024 an hour in inflation should have pushed them up a bit and you know [2175.62] Stephen: 10 quid was a pretty good price for like an fr sky receiver five years ago. So [2181.14] Stephen: They've done good things with that price point and they've got lcd displays and things on the back of the transmitters and [2188.72] Stephen: usb ports for programming and they host their own web server as well because the chip they [2195.22] Stephen: Chose to control it. So they've got this laura chip set that does the link and they've got an esp32 from expressive [2202.34] Stephen: Which is a super cheap microcontroller [2204.9] Stephen: You see a lot in things like robot vacuum cleaners and 3d printers and pretty much everything that wants a wi-fi [2212.58] Stephen: Network on it and they put one of those in there and programmed it so that it throws up a webpage [2218.42] Stephen: Where you can upload the firmware and you can configure it and things [2221.86] Stephen: So it's just a lot friendlier than having these old programming utilities and [2227.06] Stephen: What's all this stuff that you used to have to deal with? [2229.94] Stephen: That sounds awesome [2233.65] Dom: Yeah, so it sort of feels like because the [2237.65] Dom: Parts of the workflow would end up going software [2241.89] Dom: uh going [2243.97] Stephen: Software you still need a hand you still need a hardware handoff, right? So you you've got to get from the the world of yeah [2250.13] Stephen: Yeah [2251.41] Stephen: Purely digital it's got to be modulated by something [2254.29] Stephen: So it's just whatever is the the most cost effective link to put in that chain [2259.33] Stephen: And sdrs are really cool and they're great play things, but they're they're pretty cost prohibitive. Unfortunately [2266.05] Dom: Yeah, well, you can use it for many things. I was thinking you know, like like and just mentioned the hack rf there [2270.29] Dom: You know if you got a hack rf you could use it for you can all sorts of potentially use it for all sorts of different control systems [2276.53] Dom: um, I just wondered if it had made it into the join the audio but [2280.21] Stephen: uh [2281.33] Stephen: Not not yet. I think dedicated hardware options are pretty handy when it comes to minimizing latency as well [2288.21] Stephen: So yeah, yeah, they're pretty keen on that [2291.41] Dom: What was it gnu radio? [2293.41] Dom: I used quite a lot a couple of years ago and it's great fun [2296.29] Dom: But my god, it just gets so sluggish to to operate after a while. It's so [2302.29] Dom: Yeah, it's fun [2304.53] Jack: It's good. A lot has changed man [2307.01] Jack: A lot people people do a lot now [2313.09] Jack: With uh [2315.01] Jack: surprising effects [2317.73] Jack: And I I don't know I was kind of just excited to [2321.65] Jack: You know with the with the tyrannis it was you know, it just needed a few parts [2327.25] Jack: Done it slammed it together and I thought it's a steady upgrade and at least it will allow you to like have [2335.41] Jack: Have a module [2337.95] Jack: Installed [2339.97] Stephen: Yeah, so cole's asking [2341.81] Stephen: Sorry [2343.17] Stephen: Don't carry on [2344.61] Stephen: I just had cole's comment up his express long-range system [2349.89] Stephen: Oh, yeah, you really are sorry ignore me ignore me i'll mute myself frankly the answer I didn't see hank answer [2357.17] Dom: The express. Yeah, so what's a what's a classic long-range flight then these days? [2363.65] Dom: What's a typical flight people flying out tens of kilometers? [2369.66] Stephen: Uh, yeah, I think the competition [2372.54] Stephen: Express LRS one of the guys that [2374.94] Stephen: Was doing this he did a hundred kilometers on 2.4 gig [2379.34] Stephen: Wow [2380.38] Stephen: Is that ways? [2381.66] Stephen: Yeah, and then he got like taken to court by the local authorities of [2387.42] Dom: Several local authorities [2390.3] Stephen: Uh, it was pretty impressive to watch [2392.62] Stephen: He just about he had video link up until like 97k and then he had to have someone on the other end [2398.14] Stephen: Take the video link and [2400.7] Stephen: Wow, make sure it's still going. Okay [2403.42] Dom: Amazing, you know, so has anyone flown the rampian off the coast and down here in brighton yet? [2409.18] Dom: I've always thought that would be a really nice sort of [2412.86] Dom: Flying competition you can just fly from the beach straight out to the winter [2417.42] Dom: Well, just the wind turbines there what about between sort of 10 and 20 kilometers offshore? [2423.18] Jack: Yeah [2427.25] Jack: Clear line of sight I will I will aren't see you if off air [2432.61] Jack: Dom [2436.21] Dom: Excellent I won't see the footage that no one's taken [2439.81] Dom: Yeah [2442.59] Jack: It was found footage [2444.83] Stephen: You won't see the quad stuck to the blade when you go past on a boat next time [2451.15] Dom: GoPro just filming spirals [2455.63] Dom: Excellent [2457.63] Stephen: Yeah, it should really be achievable to fly to france by now [2461.71] Stephen: I imagine people don't want you to cross country borders, but it shouldn't be an issue at all [2468.19] Jack: Reminds me of jeremy clarkson and his toy boater, what'd he do? [2475.31] Jack: He got a toyota that light and made it into a um [2482.19] Jack: her boat [2484.35] Jack: toy boater [2485.87] Jack: You know top gear episode and he sailed it across the france [2491.06] Dom: I remember that episode where they took a caravan on uh, they made a hot airship, which I always loved hot airships [2496.98] Dom: I don't think there's enough hot airships in the world [2499.94] Dom: And uh, he what's it? What's the one with the long hair? Anyway, one of those [2505.06] Dom: people [2506.02] Dom: Yeah, he [2507.54] Dom: Made a hot airship out of it with a caravan as the sort of undercarriages. It was absolutely mad [2513.38] Dom: And uh fluid they've kind of stopped doing that now, haven't they they've just hot airships all top gear [2519.46] Stephen: Top gear they're back to what they used to do when I was a kid, which is like reviewing fiestas and going [2525.7] Stephen: Well, the door handles on this are slightly nicer than the old door handles [2530.42] Stephen: The steering wheel feels great against my driving gloves. I use [2535.46] Stephen: Cowhide lamb hide actually driving gloves for a smoother feel [2540.82] Stephen: Yeah, you can really feel the pickup there. I'm at almost 35 [2545.06] Dom: No time at all [2549.78] Dom: Something I never quite clicked with top gear [2552.1] Stephen: That was just a not for me. It used to be the case that they'd have like an interesting car [2558.18] Stephen: once a show at most and sometimes it would just be like [2561.86] Stephen: Reviewing escorts and stuff for shows on end and they seem to have kind of gone back to that [2566.34] Stephen: They're like, oh people need a car review show [2569.86] Stephen: But they don't really like there's been [2574.58] Jack: Like yeah, like you got tesla's now and you know, it's just like [2579.62] Jack: cooking cutter [2581.38] Jack: lego [2582.58] Jack: cars [2583.54] Stephen: Well, it's like the uh tyrannist right so the cutting edge stuff is is not going to be a petrol engine car [2589.86] Stephen: It's just not that's [2593.06] Stephen: It's a curio now [2596.9] Jack: Yeah, the joys with uh express lrs [2599.86] Jack: Dom, I think you'll [2601.86] Jack: means that you can [2603.7] Jack: Connect it to your network [2605.7] Jack: update it [2607.62] Jack: And you've got like a fast digital connection [2612.98] Jack: To your chords [2615.38] Jack: so instead of [2617.86] Jack: You know the d8 mode which was um [2621.7] Jack: see ppm [2623.78] Jack: Where it's basically right what your controls are on a postcard [2629.3] Jack: Go out to the end of the road put it in the base box [2633.06] Jack: Wait a couple of days get it to deliver to the trunk, you know to the model and then [2639.46] Jack: And then it vaguely does what you tell it to do [2644.24] Jack: you know [2645.76] Jack: but [2647.76] Jack: It's the same really and one of these days if you fly a quad and kill your ec's you can [2654.48] Jack: Enjoy the wonderful world of d shop as well [2657.68] Jack: D shop, you know, yeah [2660.48] Jack: What's that? Yeah, did you do your protocol instead of? [2664.08] Jack: um [2665.6] Jack: You know, whatever [2667.84] Jack: I don't I don't even know what's in your it's got a little bit sharp [2671.2] Stephen: More responsive your video has got a bit better. It kind of looks like everything used to get [2676.88] Dom: So the video is a wireless video [2679.52] Stephen: But it's now able to do freestyle stuff and [2683.52] Stephen: Yeah, snap around so you get the same kind of link quality that you'd get off a dji quite back in the day [2690.48] Dom: You get the same video [2692.48] Dom: Video quality right video link. Yeah [2694.08] Stephen: Well like the the control link as well so you can fly them out miles and miles now without a control link going down [2700.32] Stephen: You get you know much smoother flight so you can get like locked in camera views [2705.36] Stephen: You don't really need a gopro to stabilize. It's pretty much just dead on locked [2709.76] Stephen: Um [2711.44] Stephen: and you your [2713.12] Stephen: Viewing the goggles is going to be pretty close to what's actually recording on the quad now [2717.28] Stephen: You can get 1080p feed in the goggles [2719.84] Stephen: Incredible, which is pretty nice [2722.08] Stephen: um [2723.2] Stephen: Yeah, everything's just a little bit sharper and clearer and less wobbly I guess [2729.04] Dom: Wow, it's coming a long way. It's done it really quickly [2732.72] Dom: Amazing what a billion people buying drones does for a technology advice. Yeah [2737.6] Stephen: I'm a software engineer is working on it for a decade in the spare time, right? Yeah [2742.96] Stephen: and and the wall [2744.96] Stephen: Yeah, the wall's doing some odd stuff. There's lots of people transmitting video at like a [2750.56] Stephen: 4.5 like [2753.2] Stephen: about [2754.0] Stephen: Well, very very low like 5.4 gigahertz or 6.0 gigahertz like well outside of the legal [2761.58] Stephen: frequencies and people doing some kind of [2765.28] Stephen: Control link receivers that are on weird frequencies as well. That's so they can avoid being jammed for sure [2773.28] Stephen: But I don't know if there's much advancement going on in technology because kind of what we had at the start of this uh [2780.0] Stephen: When you know when russia went and invaded ukraine for [2783.76] Stephen: reasons [2784.8] Stephen: um [2786.16] Stephen: it was [2787.6] Stephen: Pretty much what what is there now? [2790.4] Stephen: Like all that's really happened is maybe the military industrial complex has started spending money in that area [2796.4] Stephen: I don't know if they've really advanced the state of the art because it was enough to [2801.12] Stephen: To get the job done [2803.28] Dom: I don't know how much of it's you know, I [2805.84] Dom: It's hot [2807.2] Dom: Yeah, I don't watch that space very closely. I think it's uh, um [2812.72] Dom: Interesting if the you mentioned drones are being jammed out there. I assume you know, it's simply just [2818.56] Dom: Effectively emf blasts rather than anything more coordinated [2824.32] Dom: It was what frequency hopping was always very difficult to jam [2827.6] Dom: But I see unless you just fire loads of noise at the thing [2831.52] Dom: No comment [2833.04] Dom: Yeah [2837.06] Dom: Don't mention the war [2840.9] Jack: How's um, how is our favorite sheep bothera [2845.38] Jack: mine [2847.62] Dom: He's right, yeah, he's uh [2849.86] Dom: It carries on being martin. Um, most of the time at least [2856.58] Dom: Yeah, he's still up at the farm I see him every few few weeks and uh seems right it's had uh [2864.1] Dom: various different events they tried to put on there a big event there and uh [2868.42] Dom: Something changed somebody pulled the plug at the last minute causing grief for everyone [2873.06] Dom: Always the way [2874.9] Jack: I know [2876.5] Dom: Good to see you [2877.78] Dom: Don't try and have fun. Don't try and ease the outdoors unless you're a dog walker [2882.82] Dom: That's what the outdoors is for walking dogs [2885.7] Stephen: Gleeing dog crap everywhere [2887.86] Stephen: Gleeing dog crap everywhere, yeah [2890.74] Stephen: Preferably tied in bags on branches. I don't know why people think this is a good idea, but like the dog walkers or the uh, [2899.7] Stephen: So some some [2901.86] Stephen: Pick up the dog [2903.22] Stephen: But then instead of like leaving it on the floor to rot, you know, it might go away [2907.06] Stephen: They put it in a bag, but then they leave the bag on like the branch of a tree like [2911.54] Stephen: This is just making the problem worse [2913.94] Stephen: Yeah [2914.98] Stephen: It's actually in a plastic bag and then doesn't work. Yeah in a non-buyable plastic bag [2921.9] Stephen: special special people [2924.46] Stephen: For that, I mean something that will get us banned off of the platforms [2932.21] Jack: Uh [2933.57] Jack: Look what I found [2935.09] Jack: I think am I sharing the right [2937.73] Jack: Yeah, I found facebook jack. That was any matter of time. I suppose fat shark goggles [2944.11] Jack: 150 pounds. Oh, are they going up in value now? [2948.05] Jack: I know. Yeah [2949.73] Stephen: Look at our hd2s. It's going to be like mint in box fat shark [2956.21] Stephen: I know [2957.73] Jack: Untouched they don't even look like they're being used. I mean [2961.33] Jack: That that antenna is literally garbage [2964.61] Stephen: original clovey antenna [2967.49] Stephen: No, you can't use the recent ones. You've got to use the original ones. It's got to be period gotta be period [2972.83] Stephen: 2015 [2975.89] Stephen: You know kids are already like wearing 90s outfits, it's just a matter of time before it there's going to be like retrofuturism [2982.69] Dom: And people are going to be like i'm gonna oh, I can see the great turn off happening [2986.93] Dom: I think there'll be a counter movement against the the internet everyone all the kids will just go you don't use the internet [2992.85] Stephen: That's so passe. They're gonna be all borealists go out into the fields [2997.17] Stephen: route around [2999.17] Dom: Roturnips suck the blood out of sheep raw [3003.89] Stephen: I imagine it's quite hard to suck cooked blood out of sheep [3010.13] Dom: You know one black pudding [3012.13] Dom: Black pudding coursing through its veins [3019.89] Stephen: Wouldn't run very well that way [3022.85] Jack: That is a fair point frank. I mean to tune into everything you have to buy into at least three digital systems [3029.97] Jack: No, you don't [3031.73] Jack: I mean technically for [3033.81] Jack: If you if you want to do the old [3036.45] Jack: version of [3037.89] Stephen: Why do you want to go around people's dodgy dvr over there? That's one thing i've i don't know. I've never understood that [3044.93] Stephen: I've tuned into people's analog video. I'm like, well i'm standing in the wrong place. This looks like crap. I just [3051.41] Stephen: It's it's the type of flyer you want to do are you going to be hanging around? [3055.09] Stephen: Races, then you buy hd zero if you're not going to be hanging around races. There's just no reason to buy hd zero [3062.13] Stephen: So you buy you know dgi or something? Oh races. I thought you said racists [3067.49] Stephen: racist [3071.49] Stephen: Comment banner [3075.73] Stephen: There we are [3082.13] Stephen: Yeah, so it's very popular with drone racing hd zero but outside of that the signal doesn't really work [3088.21] Stephen: Great around bandos. So you're not going to see a lot of freestyle pilots using it and I can vouch for it. It was [3094.45] Stephen: Genuinely terrifying flying hd zero a bando. It was just cutting out and [3100.27] Stephen: Sparkles and white outs and it was awful. I would not recommend it [3105.65] Stephen: I'm sure some people would recommend it. That is their right to do. They are entitled to disagree [3111.97] Stephen: Yeah, like andrew's saying he got into the scene by going around different events and seeing what the atmosphere is like in each one [3117.09] Stephen: Yeah, you can't do that. No one's flying analog really anyone who's flying regularly is [3122.45] Stephen: digital [3123.57] Stephen: They're buying equipment regularly [3126.99] Stephen: So I went on that last kraisha trip [3131.76] Stephen: I don't think though [3133.92] Stephen: Wait, was there one person flying analog? [3137.04] Stephen: I think that one person flew analog at one point, but they were mainly flying digital [3141.36] Stephen: There wasn't anyone who was like, yeah, i'm just gonna [3144.0] Stephen: What's that one person flying analog and there may have been one at most but everyone was just like [3150.08] Stephen: Uh, yeah, and he may have been the person that lost his quad in some bushes and spent like half a day getting it out [3158.11] Stephen: Yeah, so there you are [3161.73] Stephen: Signal that good, eh? [3165.04] Stephen: You could do long range fair enough like there's something to be said for I guess if you've got perfect conditions and not as interfering then [3172.48] Stephen: It should work [3174.48] Stephen: I mean [3175.6] Stephen: I've got whoops. I guess if you if you're flying whoops, you you're on an analog still so that'd work [3184.43] Dom: Yeah [3186.75] Dom: Dom you got a loop [3189.15] Dom: I've got a little one you set me up with [3191.47] Dom: Yeah [3192.91] Dom: You've flown since you're around here because I've come from a charger and I've only just got the office back in action [3198.59] Dom: Okay [3199.95] Dom: That little puppy [3202.59] Dom: Yeah, where's the money? [3207.63] Stephen: Um skull I I still totally recommend the uh skyzone o4 x's they have pretty nice dvr [3214.91] Stephen: Pretty tip-top. I guess if you've got the money for hd0 and you've got a module [3220.27] Stephen: The hd0 goggles are a tiny smidge better [3223.95] Stephen: But uh, the skyzones are like a nice all-in-one solution [3226.99] Stephen: If you're just going to fly analog you don't need to mess around with the module flow states on bardwell's youtube. I mean [3238.4] Stephen: Yeah, it's been online for absolutely ages. I actually posted a link on madstack, but uh, they made me take it down [3244.32] Stephen: I think I posted a link on our discord ages ago as well [3247.36] Stephen: It's like a nice version of most setup [3250.4] Jack: Yeah, I mean it's available on plex [3253.28] Jack: Yeah, so just make a plex account and watch it [3258.16] Jack: Yep, it made me [3260.48] Jack: like [3261.28] Jack: It really f***ed me off that because it almost [3264.72] Jack: I get like the main part of it was like don't [3268.48] Jack: you know don't [3269.76] Jack: introduce [3271.2] Jack: Remote id for the yanks and everything but it almost [3275.92] Jack: It made it seem like fpv [3278.32] Jack: Was like made by america [3281.6] Jack: It was very much about the america [3284.32] Jack: Yeah, like, you know, it was like [3287.04] Jack: They had you know, they had like final glide who's australian [3291.84] Jack: No mention really of him, but he was in some of the videos [3295.84] Stephen: to write production the way it was handled there was there's a few kind of [3301.12] Stephen: Few other people but yeah [3303.68] Stephen: That's the way it often does [3305.76] Stephen: Stuff they just forget the rest of the world exists [3307.84] Stephen: you just have to look at like american remakes of good movies and they like make a bad movie and they just cast a bunch of [3315.12] Jack: Oh, we wouldn't have won the war without them [3318.08] Jack: You know, like they won world war two. Yeah, you know dimensional for them [3324.16] Jack: There you go. Dom. I know it's like banney didn't even get a [3328.4] Jack: Like nameplate, you know, he was in the photos. He won the world [3333.12] Jack: Whatever just like and they just talked about the people who were there who didn't win it. Yeah. Yeah, I was just like [3340.88] Jack: Like I just kind of I felt pissed off on their behalf [3346.96] Stephen: Yeah, I was just like man, it's better than nothing, but it felt like a missed opportunity [3354.0] Stephen: Yeah [3356.0] Dom: All right folks i'm gonna have to jump ship because i've got a man the Thursday night show elsewhere, but uh, it's good to catch up [3362.0] Dom: No, I believe it's been can you believe it's been a decade or nearly a decade. Take care. Thank you. You've been listening to [3368.24] Jack: Lecture now we've been joined by the man with my staff stephen. Cheers. Have a good week. Oh [3374.88] Jack: The reason why ldi even exists do you do? [3379.2] Dom: Have a good decade [3381.2] UNKNOWN: And i've been bright until I fly thank you to our wonderful patrons and good night telemetry loss
