[0.0] Jack: Hello, and you're listening to Let's Drone Out, a special thank you to our lovely patrons
[6.28] Jack: that help donate so that we can pay the editor to remove the swear words and silly things
[11.36] Jack: we say.
[13.0] Jack: Massive thank you to…
[14.4] Jack: Carlos Campos!
[16.0] Jack: Art Faulkner.
[17.84] Frank: Sam Dahmer.
[19.68] Frank: On with the show.
[20.68] Jack: Hello and welcome, you're listening to Let's Drone Out.
[56.56] Jack: Tonight we are joined by a usual suspect, Andrew Stashrank.
[61.48] Jack: Hello.
[62.52] Jack: The man with the Mr. Stephen's back.
[64.96] Jack: Good evening.
[66.16] Jack: Our guest for tonight is Antony.
[68.24] Jack: Good evening, everyone.
[70.0] Jack: And our new host, Bright Till I Fly.
[73.44] Frank: Yep, we are recording on the 4th of July, so if you hear some noises from outside of
[81.76] Frank: my window, that is a polling station.
[84.32] Stephen: All America, because they're pretty loud, and we might hang them from here.
[90.08] Stephen: They're still celebrating something, I don't know, not for a good grace, I think, personally.
[94.16] Frank: I haven't noticed many fireworks around here, no.
[97.92] Frank: Not yet, not yet, give it another seven hours, maybe.
[102.24] Stephen: In London, it's kind of crazy, we're so kind of multicultural, there's always someone
[105.8] Stephen: letting off fireworks for some reason or another, and they just can't keep them all straight,
[109.8] Stephen: like, I don't know what the occasion is, but three-quarters of the time, it's good.
[113.44] Stephen: Hey, fireworks, some country somewhere has a special day.
[116.76] Stephen: Have you been flying, Stephen?
[119.0] Stephen: Yeah, I took my little, little whoop out to the park, been mainly trying to run around
[124.48] Stephen: and get in shape, but spent some time out flying as well, and did the usual dance of
[129.28] Stephen: updating this, updating that, tried to go and publish the video and overlay my footage
[135.44] Stephen: and found out some crazy reason, the footage, the OSD that I wanted to just put my OSD on
[142.48] Stephen: the HD video from Walksnell, and I overlaid it, and I'm like, okay, that looks all right.
[147.52] Stephen: Wait a minute.
[148.52] Stephen: I noticed that the flight timer goes four, eight, 12, 16, 20, and it's only getting an
[156.24] Stephen: update every four seconds.
[157.6] Stephen: I'm like, what the hell is going on?
[159.4] Stephen: I couldn't figure out what was going on.
[161.68] Stephen: Talked to the guys in the forum about it, and I noticed after two minutes, it's okay,
[165.16] Stephen: but yeah, I sent them the OSD file, and they're like, yeah, it's not the tool, that's just
[170.08] Stephen: Walksnell, it's now being s**t, so probably have to do about 100 updates for all of the
[176.68] Stephen: various whoops and quads that I've built with Walksnell, because I don't think I've updated
[181.08] Stephen: them since December, so it's going to take a while, but yeah, a little bit out, had a
[185.4] Stephen: bit of fun.
[187.36] Stephen: You've been busy Frank as well over in air shows and things.
[190.48] Frank: Yeah, well, before we get on to that, Jack, have you flown anything since last week?
[195.32] Jack: Yeah, I flew the tricopter.
[200.28] Jack: I've got like, I can only thank Chris G, like what a legend.
[207.56] Jack: Not only did he like come down, he gave me a flight controller, and he just tuned it,
[224.28] Jack: got it all going, like, you know, we took the old flight controller off, put the new
[230.6] Jack: flight controller on, and just kind of coaxed me back through the process, but there you
[239.08] Stephen: go.
[240.08] Stephen: That's pretty impressive.
[241.08] Stephen: You can probably see the number of idiot and tuna tricopter on, well, I won't say it
[246.52] Stephen: because the sensors will have to cut it, but there's not many of them.
[251.4] Jack: It was like, it was difficult anyway, because like, you're kind of, for me, it's dragging
[259.24] Jack: me back to just before the golden age of quads.
[265.72] Jack: And when you're going back, you're in RC group forums, because they're the only things that
[271.36] Jack: are still up, there's like some forums you go to, and they're no longer maintained, and
[280.16] Jack: they're just like snapshots, you're going to the way back machine.
[284.88] Stephen: Did you end up flying like recent beta flight?
[289.08] Stephen: Or are you running like two point something?
[293.72] Jack: Recent beta flight with an F4, yeah, it's a Kukute, and there's a load of pads that
[306.32] Jack: weren't broken on it, but it was a free board flying great cool, like, I realized that like,
[318.48] Jack: you know, at one point, I wanted to throw my laptop into a bush.
[322.88] Stephen: And he was like, at least you didn't like just throw it on the pavement.
[327.04] Jack: Yeah,
[328.04] Stephen: six out of 10 on the angle scale.
[332.56] Jack: Yeah, and he was like, just restart, restart the laptop.
[336.56] Jack: And I was like, dang, you know, do anything, restart it just to be like, no, you know,
[340.96] Jack: and be like, you're wrong, and restarted, and they start working again.
[344.96] Jack: And I'm like, Oh, my God, like that guy used to work with like the heavily autistic, you know,
[353.04] Jack: got away with him, like the destructive fly off the handle mentality that I now have,
[362.16] Jack: where I literally just want to into a spinning propeller.
[367.76] Jack: That is my experience in the hobby lately.
[372.32] Jack: Yeah, and he just kind of he was there.
[375.92] Jack: He was he was a voice to reason and I can't think enough.
[382.56] Frank: And lie between your tricopter.
[387.68] Frank: Chris G's own weird tricopter that he's built with like multiple moving parts.
[392.96] Frank: And yeah, yeah.
[397.36] Frank: He's got a tricopter that he carries built.
[403.04] Frank: I'm going to have to get my baby try up and running again.
[407.76] Frank: And we're gonna have to have like a little flyby formation.
[411.6] Stephen: This is interesting.
[413.28] Stephen: Yeah, I'm seeing people like starting to use beta flight for acrobatic stuff isn't quads
[418.72] Stephen: and seeing a tricopter go in there.
[420.16] Stephen: We've had a limon flying his like acro wing using beta flight for a while now.
[425.92] Stephen: And it's weird to see it loop back around and stop being just about quads.
[431.2] Stephen: Interesting.
[432.72] Stephen: Very interesting.
[434.8] Jack: Massive shout out to Dominic Clifton, by the way, I plugged.
[438.88] Stephen: Don, Don says maybe he should build his tricopter is yeah, 24 the year to build your first tricopter.
[446.24] Stephen: This is an F1 board.
[447.68] Jack: I plugged it in the green fly and it communicated with it.
[452.4] Jack: And I moved it from PWM to PPM and like, you can't do that.
[460.24] Stephen: What the hell were you waving around there?
[462.64] Jack: Yeah, that's a flight controller PCB in the shape of a tricopter.
[468.08] Jack: F1 baby.
[469.28] Jack: Wow.
[470.08] Jack: A look into the deep and distant parts that is.
[476.08] Frank: I have never seen something like this.
[478.08] Frank: How big can we make it?
[480.08] Jack: I know, like 3D printing your own like tricopter mounts and stuff, but oh my word.
[491.12] Jack: That looks like a lot of effort.
[492.4] Jack: Well done, mate.
[493.92] Jack: Oh, my word.
[494.88] Jack: That looks like a lot of effort.
[496.16] Jack: Well done, mate.
[497.04] Jack: Well done.
[497.52] Jack: The thing.
[498.0] Jack: Hang on.
[498.4] Jack: I'll just get it.
[500.88] Frank: We've started Jack off on one.
[502.24] Frank: All right.
[502.56] Jack: We're standing on everyone.
[504.24] Jack: We may be here a while.
[506.8] Jack: The wiring looks like Helen Keller did it.
[511.94] Jack: You said you built it yourself.
[513.14] Jack: I mean, we're expecting.
[515.3] Jack: It was thrown together in seconds.
[518.34] Frank: Didn't expect you to use wires and not your own pubes, but nevermind.
[521.7] Jack: Yeah.
[522.66] Jack: The camera is literally held on by.
[525.78] Stephen: It looks like it's pretty strongly held on there.
[528.98] Stephen: What's that next to the camera that looks like a chopstick covered in tape?
[532.9] Jack: That's an antenna.
[534.42] Jack: That's like an RC car antenna.
[536.82] Jack: And you just drilled a hole in the top plate and just stuffed it in.
[540.5] Stephen: Is that an all-in-one like VTX with its own camera with the antenna stuck on the side?
[547.86] Jack: No, that's the VTX.
[552.1] Jack: You'll need to come see it in person.
[554.34] Stephen: It looks like a long-range tricopter and I can think of nothing more terrifying.
[560.18] Jack: It is because for some reason it comes up in the OSD RX loss, but I still have controls
[567.14] Jack: and it didn't happen for me.
[568.5] Jack: Oh my God.
[569.7] Jack: And I don't know why.
[571.86] Frank: So this is very much a view into the deep and distant past of the terrifying things
[577.7] Frank: that people used to build and use to chase around other things, to get nice swooshy shots,
[584.18] Frank: cinematic shots from a drone like 10 years ago.
[589.06] Jack: He's got a smile on your face.
[592.58] Frank: At the other end of this spectrum, looking into the future of cinematic swoopy shots,
[597.7] Frank: we have with us Antek this evening.
[600.74] Frank: I met Antek at an air show in Poland that I was working at a couple of weeks ago called
[609.3] Frank: Leszno air show or Antidotum Leszno rather.
[614.74] Frank: I was working with Planes TV.
[617.86] Frank: So I do these occasional broadcasts from air shows with Planes TV.
[626.66] Frank: They've been going since like the 80s, doing videos and DVDs and various coverage of air shows
[636.02] Frank: using broadcast level equipment.
[639.06] Frank: And I go and help them sometimes with vision mixing and setting up and breaking down their
[646.02] Frank: broadcast gear.
[648.26] Frank: And this is the first time I've gone out to Antidotum Leszno and it was amazing.
[655.22] Frank: So Leszno has an air show as sort of bits of everything.
[660.26] Frank: There was like an F-16 coming over like zero feet for laughter burners.
[666.66] Frank: Like boom makes everything move about three inches up in the air as it goes past.
[673.38] Frank: There's a load of Red Bull stuff.
[678.18] Frank: So they've got like a Cobra military helicopter.
[680.82] Frank: They've got a A-26 Invader, which is a very, very shiny Second World War kind of equivalent
[687.78] Frank: of the A-10 Warthog kind of grand stack aircraft, twin engine thing, lots of shiny things.
[694.5] Frank: And it starts like midday on a Saturday.
[699.38] Frank: There's loads of music and it's kind of a festival vibe to it.
[702.34] Frank: And it carries on through to the middle of the night and how's fireworks and things going off.
[708.02] Frank: It is a very exciting event.
[711.3] Frank: And as part of the broadcasting, we not only had our usual ground cameras that I was there
[719.62] Frank: vision mixing.
[721.62] Frank: We also had two drone feeds.
[725.78] Frank: So we had sort of a Mavic shot that I could mix in that did some nice cinematic kind of
[733.86] Frank: interleaving things.
[735.38] Frank: That was quite nice.
[736.34] Frank: And then we had Antek flying FPV around the act of in the middle of an air show, like genuinely
[744.5] Frank: chasing around stuff, doing, you know, loops and rolls and smoke and pyro.
[750.42] Frank: And in the middle of the night, middle of the day, doing lots of beautiful things.
[756.02] Frank: And it was very exciting.
[758.98] Frank: So I thought I should drag on Antek on tonight to talk about it because it was it was something
[765.94] Frank: to see for sure.
[769.46] Frank: I don't know.
[770.82] Frank: Is there anything for you, Antek?
[772.66] Frank: What were your favorite things to fly around there at Lejno?
[779.22] Antek: I think because of my drones wasn't as fast as I thought I am actually.
[786.5] Antek: I had some troubles with catching, you know, faster planes.
[790.66] Antek: So I had to think about some drone movements, not really going behind the plane, maybe some
[799.3] Antek: shots from above from different directions.
[803.38] Antek: But I really enjoy flying with planes that are that have similar speed to my drone, right?
[810.98] Antek: And that's why I really enjoyed the Linux and lighters.
[816.5] Antek: Or I think JetPits with Richard.
[823.62] Antek: I think the best plane I was playing with because it's not that fast actually, even though it's a
[829.22] Antek: jet plane, right?
[831.38] Frank: Yeah, so Rich Goodwin's JetPits is a is a pit special, so a very aerobatic fire plane.
[838.1] Frank: And he's he's previously built the muscle pits, which is a very, very powerful pit special.
[845.38] Frank: The JetPits is where he's got, you know, your two stubby biplane wings.
[851.3] Frank: You've got your massive propeller up the front, letting you do crazy aerobatics.
[856.66] Frank: And then he strapped to the side of his fuselage, one on each side, a jet engine.
[863.46] Frank: Right.
[864.66] Frank: And so it's a propeller and a jet engine.
[869.78] Frank: It's got a big propeller and two jet engines.
[874.18] Frank: And okay.
[877.94] Frank: And so what this means is because basically, I think he sort of maxed out how much power
[883.86] Frank: he could put through the propeller without just torque rolling the entire aircraft constantly.
[890.26] Frank: So he's like, how do I add more power without adding more torque?
[894.5] Frank: I know jet engines.
[896.58] Stephen: And I guess the propeller gives you like more fine grained throttle control because
[900.58] Stephen: jet engines, you can't like reignite them that easily.
[903.78] Stephen: Whereas if you want to like really ease off the thrust, you could have the majority of the
[908.1] Stephen: propeller and just weave it on the jets, I suppose.
[911.38] Frank: I think it's also fuel as well.
[913.62] Frank: I think the jet engines are not very fuel efficient.
[917.14] Frank: I think you'd have a very short display if you run it only on the jet engines.
[921.38] Frank: By the way, so this is a this is a pit special that can just prop hang and then climb upwards.
[927.46] Frank: It has greater than one to one thrust weight ratio.
[931.22] Frank: And so it does its party face of prop hanging in the middle of the field, basically.
[938.98] Frank: And then there's there's ANTAC there flying around orbiting the pit special.
[945.94] Stephen: Do we have footage that we can drop in here to show folks?
[949.62] Stephen: I think probably not.
[950.66] Frank: If you if you go to YouTube and go to planes TV, there's almost certainly going to be a
[959.14] Frank: section of it, but we won't have permission to show it on here, I'm sure.
[963.86] Frank: If you go there, you look it up.
[966.02] Frank: But yeah, so that's that's the sort of thing like you've got actual manned aircraft doing
[972.5] Frank: crazy things.
[973.7] Frank: And ANTAC is there with the permission of everyone.
[977.54] Stephen: And all the budget hits with live drone filming.
[982.26] Frank: Yeah, there you go.
[985.62] Frank: And it's it is very impressive.
[989.14] Frank: It's very cool.
[991.14] Frank: The Blanex gliders that ANTAC mentioned.
[994.34] Frank: So these are again, I think they're another rebel team.
[997.78] Frank: And so they're paragliders, you know, the white, very sleek, very long wings.
[1006.26] Frank: But they've got a lot of colored smoke on them and they're flying in formation.
[1010.18] Frank: Often one is upside down or they sort of fly in in weird formations and they're
[1016.02] Frank: trailing loads of colored smoke and ANTACs following along there within the colored smoke.
[1023.14] Frank: So I'll I'll I'll try and show you some of that.
[1027.22] Frank: So again, this this is an air show that starts around midday and carries on through to about
[1033.54] Frank: midnight.
[1034.66] Frank: So this is at sunset.
[1036.18] Frank: So you got this lovely glowing smoke of all different colors with the sunset behind it.
[1043.7] Frank: And this is sort of at the end of the realm.
[1047.06] Frank: There you go.
[1047.86] Frank: ANTAC is flying around, following them through their loops, orbiting them as they they do a
[1056.02] Frank: storm turn and chasing them as they're flying in formation, trailing a load of very pretty
[1064.74] Frank: colored smoke.
[1066.34] Frank: And then using the BGI-03, this is being broadcast, most of being sent back to me in a shipping
[1078.18] Frank: container with a load of screens surrounding me.
[1081.54] Frank: And I had to think about and say, yes, put that on everyone's screen, send that to everyone.
[1087.78] Frank: Yeah, it's quite an experience.
[1090.5] Frank: There was also on the air show site itself, they had some big screens there and a lot of the drone
[1098.5] Frank: shots were being shown on those screens through the same sort of system.
[1103.78] Frank: So it was a very, very fun time.
[1107.38] Frank: And a lot of these displays, we were just saying before the show started ANTAC that you
[1118.5] Frank: hadn't really I mean, there was there's some rehearsals on the Thursday where you get a chance
[1122.9] Frank: to to practice live, as it were, like actually chasing around these.
[1129.14] Frank: But other than that, like this is basically you, an aerospark and the pilots of these displays,
[1137.22] Frank: just sort of having a conversation beforehand, right, about how, you know, whether they're
[1145.3] Frank: happy with you flying there, where they need to be aware.
[1149.54] Antek: I think the most important is just a conversation before, since I have some experience flying
[1157.54] Antek: with airplanes, with paramotors gliders.
[1161.62] Antek: And the most important is just to me to know what they gonna do next, where they want to be,
[1170.1] Antek: what are the attitudes, speeds.
[1172.98] Antek: And yeah, the most important rule for me is, is this that I need to avoid them, not
[1181.38] Antek: them to avoid me.
[1184.5] Antek: So because I'm too small, and I'm pretty, you know, they won't see me anyways.
[1192.26] Antek: So the most important thing is to avoid them.
[1196.02] Antek: I mean, planes and things like this.
[1200.02] Antek: Yeah, that's why we can keep it safe all the time.
[1203.06] UNKNOWN: Absolutely.
[1204.42] Frank: And it's because it's not just you on your own, is it?
[1208.26] Frank: Like you're there with a team as well.
[1211.46] Frank: So you've got Alex there from the Aerosparks team, who, if anyone has been to Western Park,
[1222.42] Frank: you know, sort of a few years or more ago, Aerosparks used to do a lot of the night displays
[1231.46] Frank: there.
[1232.9] Frank: So again, they're sort of formation glider displays with a load of LEDs on the side and
[1237.62] Frank: pyrotechnics.
[1239.14] Frank: They do a lot more of their work outside of the UK now.
[1243.54] Frank: But they have this Aerosparks drones team, which is basically Alex and Alex was helping
[1250.42] Frank: out sort of coordinate things as well, and providing the Mavic shots that we had.
[1256.66] Frank: But in terms of sort of the, you had a spotter, right?
[1266.98] Frank: So you had someone spotting you?
[1268.9] Frank: Yeah.
[1270.98] Frank: And also radio contact with the display pilots.
[1277.62] Frank: Yeah, so I guess that means that at any point, they could just be like,
[1282.74] Frank: I'm stopping this and you'd know to get out of the way.
[1287.62] Antek: Is that right?
[1289.06] Antek: I was on the radio and the frequency with the pilots.
[1294.26] Antek: And when we had like some kind of briefings before our flights or displays,
[1303.54] Antek: they told me that, for example, right now is the low pass at the lowest possible speed.
[1309.46] Antek: And this is something for me.
[1310.98] Antek: If the plane is too fast for normal, you know, catching kids.
[1316.82] Antek: And yeah, and it's really good to me to hear the pilots, especially when they are flying
[1326.26] Antek: informations, because they talk to each other, some important things.
[1331.94] Antek: And then I know what they gonna do next.
[1336.02] Antek: I mean, I know it already, but it's good to keep in touch anyways.
[1342.1] Antek: Yeah.
[1342.82] Antek: And often when planes fly information, they'll split.
[1348.66] Antek: And then it's not really for me.
[1352.66] Antek: I believe it's not really safe to me to fly behind one of the planes,
[1356.9] Antek: because I can't see the rest of them.
[1359.3] Antek: And that's a thing for my spotter.
[1363.14] Antek: I usually then went above, for example, technical road, which is like closed
[1369.22] Antek: because it's really close to the public and planes can't go there.
[1373.22] Antek: And I can't go above the crowd as well.
[1376.34] Antek: And that's why I'm waiting for planes to form again, to be close to each other.
[1384.82] Antek: And then I can chase them again.
[1389.38] Stephen: What's the briefing like beforehand?
[1391.22] Stephen: So you know, the rough agenda when pilots are going to take off,
[1395.54] Stephen: when they're going to land, do you plan the type of parts you're going to take?
[1400.34] Stephen: And obviously you've just got a battery.
[1402.82] Stephen: It's going to take you time to get to the ground and change batteries.
[1405.38] Stephen: So how do you kind of plan which parts of the display you're going to film
[1409.3] Stephen: and where you need to be?
[1411.94] Antek: It all depends on what kind of display it is.
[1415.3] Antek: Because, for example, with the gliders, it starts really, really high.
[1420.66] Antek: And there's often no point to me to be there with them.
[1427.22] Antek: And yeah, basically it's just letting me know what formation they are going to do,
[1434.58] Antek: what heights it's going to be or what speeds and what attitude.
[1440.26] Antek: And that's why I can like plan my flight because the worst thing is like battery life.
[1449.38] Antek: It's like three minutes when the display is like 10 minutes.
[1454.18] Antek: And we planned when I can change a battery because I do it while display.
[1463.78] Antek: And that's why I was sometimes flying shorter for a minute, for example,
[1469.46] Antek: but there was time to change a battery because it wasn't something important to show.
[1477.22] Antek: Yeah, exactly.
[1478.1] Antek: And then I was back to film something.
[1482.18] Stephen: So you've got a kind of minute by minute breakdown of the display that you're going by?
[1486.1] Antek: Yeah.
[1486.98] Antek: Okay.
[1487.22] Antek: I had exact times when the display would start.
[1490.58] Antek: And then I also breathe with the pilots what is important and what they want me to shoot for them.
[1500.82] Frank: Yeah, Rich Goodwin, particularly, I remember the after party was very impressed with how closely
[1509.06] Frank: you followed. He'd obviously said, at this point in the display, you need to be here,
[1514.42] Frank: ready for me to be in this position. And then you need to be here to be in this position.
[1520.1] Frank: He had obviously been very specific about where he wanted you to be.
[1523.46] Frank: And you were exactly where he wanted you. He was very impressed.
[1529.38] Antek: I think Rich was flying, maybe I am wrong, but I think Rich was flying with Tron for the first
[1535.38] Antek: time. And after our flights, he was every time impressed. And he was saying, Yeah, I've seen you,
[1543.7] Antek: you were close and you didn't hit me. I mean, I was like, are you impressed that I didn't hit you?
[1552.5] Antek: Congratulations.
[1553.46] Antek: Thank you. That was my point to don't hit you.
[1562.26] Antek: I really enjoyed flying with Rich.
[1566.18] Frank: Yeah, that is, again, a very, very fun display to watch. And that is another one, again,
[1571.14] Frank: that's on Planes TV's YouTube channel. But the other thing was sort of being on the ground,
[1577.38] Frank: because I was in this shipping container doing the vision mixing on top of the containers,
[1583.22] Frank: we had camera teams. And then in front of the containers, there's Antec and Alex with their
[1590.42] Frank: drone launch and recovery sort of site is cordoned off and on the air side. So it's well away from
[1598.42] Frank: the crowds. But still, when when Antec was clearly coming in and needed to change a battery
[1607.94] Frank: very quickly, we let we heard about it. So zooming along, very nice, like, hard turn to stop
[1617.86] Frank: quick climbs and back off again. And I tell you, I don't know what frame or what quad you are
[1625.38] Frank: flying. It was, I would say intimidating. Do you have a custom build for our shows? We hadn't
[1634.98] Stephen: talked about the kit so far. But I imagine you've got to make some choices when you're trying to
[1639.46] Antek: follow a full size aircraft. It was, to be honest, nothing special. Seven inch drone,
[1648.82] Antek: six sets, of course. But for now, I know it's not ideal for this type of things.
[1656.58] Antek: Because it was my first not enough power, of course.
[1661.62] Antek: Yeah, it was really the gas engine on yours as well. Yeah. Yeah, something to use right at the
[1667.78] Antek: top of the throttle a lot of the time, then. Yeah, that's why my battery because I was, you know,
[1673.22] Antek: testing kits with other planes or with slower things. And it was like, okay, five, six minutes
[1680.82] Antek: on the battery. And then I went and I had to fly like 100% throttle all the time. And that's why
[1688.1] Antek: my battery was like from two to three minutes. You know, yeah. And it's not a small battery. It's
[1695.62] Stephen: 4000 milliamps. Yeah, some people who do long range could like squeeze 15 minutes maybe out of
[1704.66] Antek: that size. Yeah, exactly. And that's actually burning through it in like a minute. I learned
[1713.86] Frank: a lot and I know what to change right now. For the for the next one, I'm looking forward to seeing
[1720.5] Frank: more. Yeah, because this this wasn't your first time flying around manned aircraft at all, was it?
[1726.34] Frank: So you've been traveling the world following various things with people in the air, right?
[1736.42] Antek: Right. I visited Qatar with flying dragons team. They also displayed at Antidotum Leshna.
[1746.18] Antek: And yeah, it was, it just happened. I don't know how, but to Qatar with them.
[1756.9] Antek: They were performing rooming, I believe, on something like Qatar Food Festival,
[1764.98] Antek: based in Qatar downtown. And it was like almost a week straight of the displays.
[1772.74] Antek: Wow. Yeah, that's, that's good practice, though, right?
[1776.5] Antek: Yeah, in the city above the water.
[1784.26] Frank: Yeah, yeah, you have to be pretty confident in your equipment to do that. And you'd definitely
[1791.14] Frank: be confident in it afterwards, right? Like after a week of that, you've got to be pretty confident
[1796.42] Frank: that everything's good. Yeah. Yeah, I was kind of impressed by this when you said that the flying
[1802.42] Stephen: dragons, I think this is the footage here, right? Yeah, a whole bunch of I've got what they're called,
[1808.82] Stephen: but the power of light is yeah, yeah, yeah. And you can see that nice safely driving in the safest
[1816.1] Stephen: possible location over a four lane motorway. That's actually required exactly when you operate this
[1822.58] Stephen: exactly when you operate this kind of way of at least four lanes.
[1828.5] Frank: Yeah, the flying dragons stuff is quite impressive. So they've got a load of LEDs
[1835.06] Frank: lighting up their canopy, lighting up them. I mean, you know, it's just fireworks out of both
[1840.66] Antek: sides of the paraglider. Yeah, unfortunately. Unfortunately, none of the fireworks worked on
[1851.14] Antek: the anti dot on and they had only LEDs and fireworks from the ground. Yeah, but I mean,
[1858.1] Frank: you didn't notice, in all honesty, if no one had told me I wouldn't have noticed that there was
[1862.42] Frank: anything missing, there was lots of fireworks and lots of LEDs was but could be like two times more
[1867.86] Frank: anyway. Yeah, but I, to be honest, I would be if I was one of them, and the fireworks hadn't gone off
[1875.14] Frank: and like I'm coming into land, and I've got a lot of fireworks trapped on to me that should have
[1880.42] Antek: gone off but haven't. That would be terrifying. Yeah, I know. It is terrifying even for them.
[1890.02] Stephen: The guitar stuff looks pretty awesome. There's some other videos you've got
[1893.38] Stephen: chasing a paraglider through the desert and he's got kind of typical Arab press and
[1898.5] Stephen: and the head press. And you're just like zooming around this having a great time.
[1906.5] Frank: This episode was recorded in front of a live online audience, downloaded and edited to make
[1913.06] Frank: sense when it played audio only, censored to please the iTunes people, hosted on the internet,
[1918.1] Frank: forwarded through to your podcast provider, downloaded, playing on your device and is now
[1922.42] Frank: playing in your ears. All thanks to our Patreons. Consider joining them and you'll also get other
[1927.94] Frank: online benefits. Find out more at patreon.com forward slash let's drone out. So this was sort
[1934.82] Frank: of your, your, was this your entry into flying around manned aircraft then? And like, not really,
[1944.18] Antek: I, I done couple, like tournaments, also with paragliders at the national airport.
[1952.58] Antek: And me on wild everything. I was just training with planes flying international
[1962.42] Antek: and getting used to it. But it was, you know, you can't really train with something like
[1969.7] Antek: blending steam or reach out with jet beats. It's more like just now flying around, but it's still
[1977.06] Frank: something. Yeah, just a, just a one eight two doing a circuit and coming into land. That's a
[1983.54] Frank: slightly different problem from a pit special with a couple of jets engines trapped to it.
[1994.1] Stephen: Yeah. I see. You've got kind of a huge variety of stuff. You've got
[1998.34] Stephen: some, what looks like racing footage in the Instagram feed, but also some work on music
[2003.86] Stephen: videos, tourist, tourist advertising shots, air shows. I mean, what, what kind of kitty
[2010.9] Stephen: flying? So it looks like you're flying every different type of FPV. That's my main problem
[2019.78] Antek: that I want to do everything. And I don't have time and more of the time I don't have money for
[2026.66] Antek: everything. Because now, now I can earn something from recording stuff. But most of this, I'm putting
[2038.5] Antek: back in my drones or things like this. And normally I'm working in the restaurant to afford everything.
[2046.58] Stephen: Wow. That's not to work hard. It looks like you've got some fantastic footage. I mean,
[2052.1] Stephen: I think you've got a bright career ahead of you. I'm just amazed at the different types of what
[2057.3] Stephen: you're flying. So a lot of people like just stick to a five inch because it's what they know. But
[2062.02] Stephen: you know, you said you're doing seven inch for the air show and absolutely makes sense. I could see
[2065.7] Stephen: you going to like 10 inch or more even just to get the flight time and the speed. But then you've
[2070.82] Stephen: got whoop racing there as well. And then you've got some silly whoop stuff. You're doing some
[2076.1] Stephen: music videos by the looks of it. The I think what was the name caught my eye. What was it like the
[2085.3] Stephen: Ali ganja mafia? Looks like you some quite nice, but nicely presented stuff where you're doing
[2095.46] Stephen: slow mo shots through really beautifully lit pine woods. And, you know, you've clearly got some
[2100.98] Stephen: skills of doing like really slow shots as well. It's not all just about speed, right?
[2106.82] Frank: Yeah, sometimes it's just a precision. But in terms of speed and position,
[2114.58] Frank: Lejno, we were talking about that you do racing as well, right? Not just filming.
[2120.5] Antek: Yeah, I do racing. Yeah, which is another thing that there is never enough money to spend on.
[2127.3] Antek: When you think you have everything ready, there is something burnt and not ready by.
[2137.94] Frank: So what we're saying is, if anyone wants to sponsor your your your racing, you're available,
[2144.34] Antek: right? Yeah, I mean, game fun is helping me with the propellers. And recently, I got
[2158.02] Antek: like in contact with that on that on mamba. And they sent me some electronics. So that's cool.
[2166.1] Antek: It's always something that I have to buy and think about. Yeah, but it's, as I said, it's
[2176.35] Antek: really hard to do everything. And that's why I, I try to do everything, but it's just impossible.
[2184.43] Antek: You know, you can race, but you have to practice to be fast. And always pick your
[2190.19] Antek: picks your drones. And then you have, like, cinematic stuff, and you want to keep up with
[2196.27] Antek: everything, every new things and have time to learn how to edit your videos. And it's a lot of
[2204.51] Stephen: things. Seems like racing is often a springboard where people are doing racing when you know,
[2210.51] Stephen: they're like 1518, maybe up to 20, perhaps like 2324. And then they move into film production
[2219.87] Antek: cinematography. Yeah, there's a lot of pilots like, I don't know, Capitan Vanover, Alex Vanover.
[2230.03] Antek: Yeah, now he he's still racing, I guess, but he's in some kind of company,
[2237.63] Stephen: filming company. Yeah, they're still with Tommy. I mean, these are all guys like Tommy was out
[2244.59] Stephen: filming National Geographic shots, right on boats and stuff. So yeah, it seems like it gives you
[2250.51] Stephen: that springboard when you do the racing, you're in front of a camera, people get to know your name,
[2255.15] Stephen: and then doors open, right? So I guess you're seeing this already, you've got pretty good
[2260.27] Stephen: portfolio for someone who's starting out. This is impressive. Yeah.
[2267.31] Frank: And like, that's a particularly kind of unique selling point for you, right? It's like having
[2273.15] Frank: done, let's know and this other work flying around other manned aircraft, like there's not
[2279.07] Frank: a lot of people in the world really that have that experience that you now have. So that is,
[2285.95] Frank: you know, something that really sets you apart, I would say. And yeah, be interesting to see where
[2291.79] Frank: you take it. I hope lots of places. Thank you. I hope so. Because for for a bit of context for
[2300.11] Frank: everyone, you just you've just finished high school, right? Like literally finished high school,
[2306.43] Frank: 19 right now. So so you've got like the whole world ahead of you of like where,
[2316.11] Frank: where you might find a career and what you might do with it. And whether you want to do
[2321.15] Frank: more education or whether you want to like go into into sort of full-time
[2327.71] Frank: doing some something like this or whatever, like you've you've got all those decisions to make,
[2332.75] Antek: right? Yeah, it's it's changing all the time when my plan is and what I want to do.
[2341.23] Antek: Yeah, I also wanted to say that FPV changed a lot since I started. I started like
[2347.55] Antek: five years ago, maybe. And I see like the change with the electronics and everything.
[2357.79] Antek: But Jack showed us today some weird controller. I don't know what is it.
[2366.43] Stephen: Years ago, I mean, that's the dawn of time, I think.
[2370.11] Stephen: I have in my well, it's for more like eight years ago, I guess, instead of five years.
[2385.6] Frank: Nine years. Yeah, I was gonna say it's some old stuff. I have some really, really old
[2394.4] Antek: FC that I got from my friend. And it was before, I don't know before what, but it has like a small
[2401.68] Antek: screen on it. And you set everything with the button on it. Burn it. Yeah, it's something there.
[2410.0] Stephen: Jack loves this stuff. I'm just kidding.
[2413.76] Frank: Yeah, the KK2 is something that is something that Jack would be all over. That is Jack's
[2422.32] Stephen: favorite type of FPV equipment. It's like you use the screwdriver to tune the pits and
[2430.08] Stephen: no filters. I don't think so. Do you remember?
[2433.76] Antek: Even now, to be tuning drone is hard for me, so I can imagine doing it like that.
[2439.84] Frank: Go ahead, Frank. Do you remember, Antek, what the first thing was that you flew FPV?
[2447.04] Antek: Oh, actually, I started with five inch. I mean, I met a guy in Leshno Airport, actually,
[2457.44] Antek: because there is also like section for the guys with the RC planes. And they had some kind of
[2464.64] Antek: meetings. And like, six years ago, five years ago, there was can't remember his name, actually,
[2474.24] Antek: because he's no longer flying. Oh, his name was Camille. And yeah, he's no longer flying. But
[2483.04] Antek: he teach me everything, basically, and built my first drone for me. And I was like 14 by then.
[2492.16] Antek: And yeah, I learned it, how to do it and everything. But he told me to buy a simulator.
[2500.16] Antek: And I was no practicing on velocity drone. And yeah, actually, I
[2509.44] Antek: this is like a completely different drone right now. But it's the that's the frame, my first frame,
[2516.64] Antek: I think it's gap RC Airbus or something like that.
[2521.52] Antek: Yeah, really, really chunky frame, which was good for me. I remember. Yeah. Yeah. And it was
[2537.71] Antek: my friend built it with emacs, you know, the old old emacs motors, RS 2205, I believe.
[2550.16] Antek: Yeah, and he built something that is really hard to broke for me.
[2556.64] Antek: Yeah, it's a good starter. Yeah. Yeah.
[2561.2] Stephen: Yeah, so the X5 is definitely an older designer frame. Yeah.
[2571.04] Stephen: Not seen stuff like this in a while. It's interesting.
[2573.68] Frank: So that has a session, a GoPro session strapped to the top of it, which sort of dates it a little
[2579.84] Antek: bit. Yeah. Yeah, but the GoPro session was something I dreamed back then. But I never bought
[2587.2] Antek: any of these. It's called this. I was without any time. And it's I didn't break this. I didn't
[2600.99] Antek: break this frame till today. I remember that people said it would be like impossible to fly
[2612.11] Antek: with GoPro Hero seven or eight on your five inch. And now it's like basic stuff.
[2622.75] Stephen: Yeah, it's still heavy, but you can do it. Yeah, people flying a test now. So what do you think is
[2629.15] Stephen: the biggest change? You've been flying for five years, you fly professionally, you've done a lot
[2633.47] Stephen: of racing, you get through a lot of drones. So what do you think has changed the most since you
[2639.47] Antek: started buying? I think racing changed a lot, because there always were fast pilots. I mean,
[2650.99] Antek: MCK is fast every time. But now there is much more fast pilots. And the builds are just focused
[2663.23] Antek: to be as light as possible. They don't care that they, you know, touch something and it's broke.
[2669.55] Antek: It happens anyway, right? Yeah. Here is the phrase. It's still working. Yeah, on different.
[2685.31] Antek: Because it's, it's made for a bundle flying or stuff like this. And my first drone was on
[2693.55] Antek: actually kiss not better flight. Because my friend told me his first look, right now it's, it's still
[2702.35] Antek: a kiss. It's FedEx tag, which didn't actually FedEx kiss. It's all the same jet. It's all the same.
[2710.59] Antek: I will show you racing drone. We're just super light. It's a five inch drone. And it's
[2728.27] Antek: like 200, 230, 40 grams without battery. Yeah, that's nice. And I even thought of
[2740.11] Antek: mounting GoPro to one of these because they are so fast to film planes. But I haven't done it.
[2748.91] Stephen: Well, you've got to worry about vibration because they're kind of light and not designed for
[2753.39] Stephen: great footage. So you've got to tune it not to be a racing drone anymore, but to be an HD camera
[2759.31] Frank: drone. So a bit of retuning. I see you've got some flying wings on the wall behind you as well.
[2767.47] Antek: Do they see much use? Yeah, sometimes. Actually, I can go to grab a battery because one has
[2776.19] Antek: really cool LEDs. Yeah, go for it. I will do it. Jack has returned. He stops raging.
[2784.99] Jack: It's all the same jet.
[2794.51] Antek: Wow, that is bright. Oh, the battery is dead. But you've seen it, right?
[2800.75] Frank: Yeah, yeah, that is that's some bright LEDs. It's very looks very neat as well as kind of like a
[2806.35] Frank: like a running light like a headlight. It's very tidy.
[2815.47] Frank: Have you done any filming with any of your wings? Like are they useful for any any filming at all?
[2820.11] Antek: Or is that I have never I have never put a camera on them. Actually, I just want to
[2829.87] Antek: in this wing, I just showed you, I wanted to go as fast as I can. And that's why I
[2839.39] Antek: I burnt the ESC once on it. But it went over 200 kilometers, like 230. Yeah, because it was
[2851.31] Antek: success on 2500 kv motor. That's why it went so fast.
[2863.15] Stephen: That must have been difficult to control. I'm guessing
[2867.79] Antek: kind of shaking just a tiny bit, maybe. Tiny bit. Yeah. Six inch prop.
[2875.79] Frank: Bit late. Wow. Yeah. I feel like launching that would be a challenge.
[2883.71] Antek: Yeah, it was just but I don't have I mean, it was it is on enough just to
[2891.79] Antek: have OSD and everything. And GPS working. But I think the best fun is when you throw
[2899.07] Antek: your wing and you don't have any like outline or stuff like this. Because you know, it's boring.
[2905.07] Jack: I know. Is that the same as beta fly? They're all the same.
[2916.67] Frank: All right, salty.
[2921.78] Stephen: Well, at least you can look at the code for right now and say it's different. I can't,
[2925.46] Stephen: you know, look at the code. It's any different to kiss as far as we know. They just like stuck in
[2930.42] Jack: your logo on the top. Yeah, why bother using ERS free sky was fine.
[2938.66] Stephen: Apart from when it dropped like 50 meters onto a concrete skate park. I was not happy about that.
[2944.98] Stephen: And that I was like, Oh, no, I'm flying. I'm like, in front of myself, it's all good. I flew behind
[2951.78] Stephen: myself and fail safe. And I'm like, the drone was basically above me. And it just fail safe the
[2958.18] Frank: instant like my body was between the radio and the air show stuff you're flying. Oh, three,
[2972.66] Frank: a DJI. Oh, three. What do you fly for your racing and for your wings?
[2979.54] Antek: Um, I really like analog, actually. But now but now HD zero is getting more and more popular,
[2990.34] Antek: which is good for racing, but it's kind of expensive to have another pair of goggles for me.
[2997.38] Antek: Yeah, so I'm racing on express LRS 2.4 gigahertz and on analog and everything.
[3008.66] Antek: All of my drones, which are not for filming are on analog. Because I kill, I really can feel the
[3016.34] Antek: latency on the DJI. It's not you know, you receive HD image, but you feel the latency.
[3025.7] Antek: Yeah, but when I'm filming, I'm flying on crossfire. Because I think it's, it's more
[3033.62] Antek: for the world. But it just was more safe than the rest. I believe reliable and trusty. Yeah,
[3048.58] Antek: thank you. You don't have to worry about updating it so often. Yeah.
[3053.46] Antek: I can't remember when I do anything with it last time. Awesome. So for people that want to
[3067.62] Frank: follow what you're up to, we've got a link in the description to your link tree. But if you want to
[3075.7] Frank: let people know where to find you, I guess, on Instagram is probably best.
[3081.54] Antek: I post everything that I want to be visible for people on Instagram. I used to have,
[3090.98] Antek: I even launched my website. But it was like, there is no point in, I think, Instagram is like,
[3098.98] Antek: can do it every, do it all. You know, and it's like easier to find for people.
[3105.86] Stephen: We really just have a website to point people to our YouTube channel.
[3110.66] Stephen: You put it into Google and YouTube fails to surface the result. Yeah.
[3118.74] Frank: So you're at add underscore movie on Instagram, right? Right.
[3126.02] Frank: But anyone wants to see some of the clips we've been talking about tonight and keep a track of
[3132.1] Frank: where you end up going planes, TV shows for some of the air show stuff as well.
[3138.02] Frank: Yeah. If you want to watch the entire three days, including rehearsals of
[3143.22] Frank: Lejno air show stuff, you can go to watch planes, tv.com and pay some money.
[3150.58] Frank: Or you can see some clips on YouTube at planes, TV. So there you go. There's a plug.
[3158.5] Frank: Don't think I've plugged planes, TV on here before. I'm slightly nervous.
[3162.58] Frank: And people know you've been moonlighting comments appearing.
[3168.18] Frank: Exactly. Very nervous. I don't need that. I don't, I don't see the live chat usually. So
[3175.54] Frank: never read the comments. Just never read the comments.
[3183.14] Frank: We should also mention as we're coming up to the end of the show,
[3187.38] Frank: uh, next week we have, if I remember correctly, we have Mako coming back on, uh, and talking about
[3197.14] Frank: all the many exciting things she's been doing with the racing and, and supporting, uh, lots of new
[3204.34] Frank: pilots and in, in getting involved in things all, all around the world. So again, a jet setter
[3211.3] Frank: doing exciting things next week on LDO. So we're getting all the, all the best guests. It's going
[3217.54] Frank: to be a hat trick of good episodes. Please sign up to our Patreon and keep this going.
[3225.62] Stephen: Absolutely. It's going to be good guys. See you in that few shows. And, uh, thank you very much,
[3232.74] Stephen: Anthony, uh, for being an awesome guest this time and filming such a good time talking with you and
[3240.9] Antek: sharing my thoughts about what I did. Thank you for, for invitation today.
[3248.5] Antek: Thank you very much.
[3250.9] Stephen: All the best. And thanks to our Patreons who are scrolling across the bottom of the screen. We
[3254.9] Stephen: won't read them all out this time round, but you are all very much appreciated for keeping the show
[3259.22] Stephen: on the road. Like and subscribe. As Dom just pointed out, we should do. And to answer Dominic's
[3267.22] Stephen: previous comment, TBS Crossfire and IRC Ghost are still a thing in 2024.
[3274.1] Antek: Yeah, I think they are. People, I think Ghost Link was already dead when it came out.
[3290.02] Antek: Some people use it for racing, but like for a month, I believe. And then they went back to
[3296.02] Antek: like Tracer or stuff like this.
[3301.57] Stephen: Yeah. Unfortunately, the price was never going to compete with Express LRS when you've got hardware
[3306.53] Stephen: being made by like 20 different companies in China. I think where, where Ghost is probably
[3311.01] Stephen: going to come into its own is when, uh, IRC sort of joins up with the, the companies they've allied
[3318.21] Stephen: with recently, who I'm completely blanking on, but they made FPV goggles in Croatia.
[3323.97] Stephen: Uh, Orca? Orca. Yeah. So they're like partnered with Orca. So I think we, we might see some IRC
[3330.13] Stephen: joint projects potentially using and being a kind of all in one integrated package at some point.
[3336.29] Stephen: It looks like if they don't go bust, that might be a thing. That's a big if.
[3343.89] Frank: Do I remember correctly that Orca have a digital system sort of in the works? Is that correct?
[3352.29] Antek: Two years ago, they said they, they would launch something and no one heard about it, I think.
[3359.49] Frank: Yeah. So maybe, maybe they're going to, you know, come out of left fields and all of a sudden there's
[3364.93] Frank: going to be this all in one system to compete with everything else. I will not hold my breath.
[3375.25] Jack: Hey Jack, I reckon they've got them in stock and newbie drone.
[3382.37] Antek: Yeah, I think there are still like bind and fly whoops with ghosts.
[3388.53] Jack: But yeah, like in a bin somewhere.
[3397.89] Antek: I thought you were a big ghost supporter, Jack.
[3400.69] Antek: I have friends in Poland, which is also racing. And when ghosts, everyone was so hyped
[3409.33] Antek: about the ghost. He bought it. And it was like two or three years ago. And from this time,
[3417.57] Antek: he wants to sell it. And no one wants it. That's a tough sell that is.
[3423.01] Jack: I like it because it lets me do what I want to do with channel five.
[3429.89] Jack: The two antennas means I can do this.
[3438.53] Frank: For listeners at home, Jack has proceeded to put the antennas from his ghost transmitter up his
[3445.25] Stephen: nostrils. Yeah, I mean, it's what you want. If you've got that hay fever problem, and you need
[3449.65] Stephen: to sneeze, then ghost is really the answer. Although Gemini has come along recently. So
[3453.97] Stephen: if you've got sneezing problems, you can now do this on Express LRS.
[3458.21] Stephen: Oh, if you want caution, you may damage your ears if you sneeze while having antennas up your nose
[3463.65] Stephen: to one. I also saw as a typical drone related item, I saw a guy who sneezed so hard. He actually
[3472.05] Stephen: shot his bowels out of his body. I was in an article someone sent me I thought you'd be
[3476.05] Jack: interested to know about. Well, another thing to add to my fears.
[3481.01] Jack: Thank you. You've been listening to Let's Grown Out. You've been joined by Adrix Ashran.
[3489.49] Jack: Bye.
[3490.53] Jack: Bellrick.
[3491.73] Jack: Thank you and good evening. Good night.
[3493.65] Jack: And Tony.
[3494.69] Jack: Thank you.
[3495.81] Jack: Brian to the fly. Thank you. Good night.
[3498.85] Jack: Bye.
[3499.33] Jack: Bye.
[3500.13] Jack: Thank you, Patreons.
[3501.65] Jack: Lovely Patreons.
