[142.84] Stephen: Mako, I gather you've finally joined the club of drone fliers and eventually lost a quad
[150.36] Stephen: after what is this coming up to maybe eight, 10 years.
[156.04] Mako: I started in 2018.
[158.24] Mako: So what is that?
[159.24] Mako: Six years around six years.
[161.28] Mako: I lost my first quad last summer.
[163.44] Mako: Yeah.
[164.44] Mako: And I do fly a lot over water.
[165.72] Mako: I'm primarily a drone racer, but I love flying over water being in the Northeast of the United
[171.16] Mako: States.
[172.16] Mako: I have a lot of beaches, marshes, and did lose one in a marsh, but found it.
[178.32] Mako: But of course, you know, that's saltwater, so it was sizzling and pretty much everything
[183.36] Mako: was ruined.
[184.36] Curry: But I was glad to get my camera back and you know, to be fair, if you found it, even if
[189.0] Curry: it's knackered and broken, you haven't lost it.
[191.96] Curry: You've just, you know, things to fix or recover or throw away, but at least you found it.
[197.76] Mako: Well, that's the first.

[200.4] Mako: So I lost two, technically.
[201.4] Mako: Well, technically, okay, I lost one because you just told me I didn't lose that one.

[205.96] Mako: So the one that I lost, that one is actually a heartbreaker.

[211.6] Mako: I was doing a mid range flight.
[213.64] Mako: I kind of have a little trauma with that one, which is why I think I put it out of my memory
[217.64] Mako: and start talking about the one I found first.
[221.28] Mako: So anyways, it's in the ocean.
[223.2] Mako: I did a mid range flight, went out to an island and turned around and instantly lost my video.
[229.36] Mako: I was flying in older drones.
[231.28] Mako: So I was, you know, I was kind of in a rush to get out there and I didn't let my satellites
[236.6] Mako: pick up.
[237.6] Mako: So I like did rookie mistakes after years of flying and finally lost.
[242.76] Stephen: Well, so long as you've got the memories, really, you know, so so you had to block it
[247.68] Mako: out.
[249.68] Curry: So GPS was on there just in case, but you thought satellites, who needs them?
[254.2] Curry: I'll just do that.
[256.04] Mako: I literally was flying straight and back, so I thought I was going to be fine.
[261.68] Koel: What could go wrong?
[263.32] Koel: You know what? Every time I do that, like I've recently kind of done that.
[267.52] Koel: All right, let's send it out straight for a while.
[270.04] Koel: Then a little further, a little further.
[272.12] Koel: And I hope by the time I turn around, I still have some visual.
[277.36] Koel: And luckily, I haven't had that, the dismay that you have.
[280.92] Stephen: Yeah, you ever do that, like halfway turn, you get like 30 degrees off axis, you're like,
[285.6] Stephen: oh, no, no, no.
[286.6] Stephen: And then you're like lined up and you're like reversing, reversing, reversing, just get
[292.56] Stephen: a couple of yards closer to me and then think about this turning thing all over again.
[296.64] Mako: I actually saved one that way.
[298.28] Mako: I lost video over the ocean before with a sinner loop and I flipped my goggles off and
[303.76] Mako: I pulled it back by just going and reverse the whole way.
[306.84] Mako: Because I'm not going to fly line of sight.
[309.4] Koel: Yeah, you have to go backwards at that point if you if you're not in the goggles or else
[312.92] Koel: everything's backwards, right?
[314.28] Mako: Like, yeah, first, I think I was going the wrong way and I'm like, I'm just going to
[318.32] Mako: pull it in reverse then and not even worry about turning because I'll screw up.
[323.44] Stephen: Oh, wow.
[324.4] Stephen: Yeah, no, you're you know, you know where you've got to go, just zero, you're in.
[328.56] Stephen: Wait till you hear the buzzing.
[330.04] Mako: You guys had to start with the rough questions about me losing.
[333.12] Mako: I'm actually a good pilot, I swear.
[337.36] Curry: I was just going to rub it in and say since 2012, no drones lost.
[341.76] Curry: Lots crashed, but I don't fly over water that much.
[343.96] Curry: So I get away with it.
[346.0] Stephen: One of mine disappeared into the park and I did a grid search.
[349.36] Stephen: It was this tiny little thing when I was learning to fly line of sight.
[352.24] Stephen: And yeah, just it just vanished.
[354.88] Stephen: Little brush guy somewhere out there.
[357.88] Curry: If we're going to bring it down to toys, technically, I was testing this little it must
[361.52] Curry: been like this 20 pound little flight on your phone thing with Sophie.
[365.12] Curry: And it had this thing where you can put like you can say go that way.
[369.76] Curry: Now we draw a little thing on the map and we did that.
[371.88] Curry: And we pressed it and just went wish you saw a bit like, oh, OK, someone's got that
[378.8] Stephen: so-called autonomous drones.
[380.48] Stephen: Yeah, definitely.
[381.32] Curry: Yeah, it's it's an autonomous drone that costs like 20 quid is possibly a little bit dodgy.
[386.84] Stephen: It's as if you don't control the throttle.
[389.68] Stephen: It does.
[390.52] Stephen: That's where the economy is doing the same thing.
[393.64] Mako: There must be a lot of drones on the ocean floor.
[395.68] Mako: That's all I got.
[397.32] Curry: Well, new hobby scuba diving.
[399.0] Curry: Go back, get it.
[401.0] Stephen: I do have a friend who scuba dives, but it'll be like the sunken treasure of the, you know,
[406.68] Stephen: 21st or 22nd century.
[408.96] Stephen: People just go out there and like when lithium is scarce and no one's got any and they're like
[413.52] Stephen: going down and pulling out this corroded lithium packs out of stuff.
[416.84] Stephen: So what else have you been up to then?
[420.96] Stephen: You seem to dabble in quite a bit from the kind of the STEM stuff through racing.
[425.84] Stephen: What else has been on the calendar?
[428.48] Mako: I'm primarily a racer and I also manage a women's race team called Mach 1, which I think
[435.36] Mako: you guys have talked about in a prior episode with Zoe.
[438.44] Mako: We're an all-female team, but we have a racing side and a freestyle side and I co-manage it
[444.16] Mako: with somebody, but I'm also a pilot, of course.
[446.08] Mako: So eight of us fly on a DCL team, Drone Champions League, which is a professional drone
[451.72] Mako: racing league, and there are teams from all over the world that compete.
[455.24] Mako: There's China Dragons, a French team called X-Flates, a Japanese team called Raiden Racing.
[462.6] Mako: So we're Mach 1 and we're the first all-female team to join the league.
[466.28] Mako: And we, two of us, myself and another pilot, just got back from Abu Dhabi for their split
[472.24] Mako: final.
[473.56] Mako: We weren't there competing, but we were there running like a simulator booth and educating
[477.92] Mako: the public a little bit about drones and sort of sharing our passion.
[481.0] Mako: But it was quite the event in Abu Dhabi because it was at a tech convention.
[485.64] Mako: And like you're saying, it was autonomous stuff.
[488.12] Mako: Tons of smart, autonomous vehicles, air, land, sea, boats.
[494.68] Mako: There were air taxis.
[497.56] Mako: There's a really cool one.
[499.44] Mako: I think it's called the Airwolf, and it made me think of Star Wars, like those air speeders.
[504.28] Mako: It had tilted rotors so it could, you know, take off like a drone vertically, but then
[509.96] Mako: they would tilt and you'd be riding it.
[512.8] Mako: One or two people get on sort of like a crotch racket, and it totally just looked like Star
[517.36] Mako: Wars.
[518.16] Mako: But in the middle of that event, we had our drone race thing.
[520.88] Mako: We had a virtual final as well as a live final and a really big like those Evital drones,
[527.48] Mako: which are like the ones that are, you know, trying to be manned one day that they're
[531.72] Mako: flying remotely right now.
[535.45] Mako: So that's what too lately.
[538.45] Stephen: How did the racing booth go?
[540.29] Stephen: Was it well received?
[542.13] Mako: Yeah, there were a lot of people interested in a really diverse group coming in.
[547.69] Mako: We had tons of kids, of course, coming in and out wanting to come and try it over and over
[552.13] Mako: again.
[552.73] Mako: It's funny, we couldn't put them in acro mode.
[554.89] Mako: I mean, like maybe one or two people tried acro mode, but they instantly would, you know,
[559.33] Mako: like flip exactly.
[561.57] Mako: And they were so funny about it, because they're like, oh, this is among you fly in, like, show
[566.41] Mako: me that mode.
[567.13] Mako: And then they would fail miserably.
[569.41] Mako: So we were in arcade mode, and they were flying on a PlayStation.
[574.09] Mako: So it was very different.
[575.73] Mako: But the kids would like come back again and again.
[578.01] Mako: And we had Sheik's, which are known as, you know, the royalty of the country.
[584.13] Mako: So that was really like, they're racking when they would come by and they're like, you're
[588.45] Mako: going to show a king this simulator.
[591.25] Koel: Wow.
[591.89] Mako: Oh, my gosh.
[594.61] Mako: Like I offered a job to go teach, you know, English over there.
[598.81] Mako: They wanted to buy the chairs.
[600.85] Mako: It was pretty fun.
[603.85] Koel: Yeah, no doubt.
[605.45] Koel: I bet you it's a whole different world over there, right?
[607.53] Koel: Compared to North America.
[609.05] Koel: I've never been.
[609.81] Mako: Yeah, I loved going over there.
[611.57] Mako: It was really cool experiencing a different culture.
[614.81] Mako: Everyone's really nice.
[616.17] Mako: And the city was super clean and really easy to get around.
[620.37] Mako: And it was so it's so interesting because there's so much history in the Middle East.
[623.57] Mako: But there's also an Abu Dhabi.
[625.81] Mako: There's just so much modernity, you know, just so much tech and the latest stuff out
[630.97] Mako: there. So it was a weird mix of old and new.
[634.65] Stephen: Sounds fascinating.
[635.57] Stephen: Yeah, I don't think we really understand how it how it works from here in Europe.
[640.21] Stephen: And I guess it's probably the same in the United States.
[643.33] Stephen: It's a bit of a kind of closed off culture.
[645.97] Stephen: We don't it doesn't really export a lot of culture to us.
[648.53] Stephen: So it's it's hard to know what's going on there.
[651.13] Mako: Yeah. And I was like looking it up and they said it's the safest city in the world.
[655.77] Mako: Abu Dhabi is.
[657.53] Mako: Oh, wow. And I really felt that way.
[660.61] Mako: And we were at the Yas Marina Circuit, which is the Formula One track over there.
[664.93] Mako: So it was really cool to have the guys on the other teams sort of flying their drones
[669.49] Mako: on the track. And they had autonomous race cars when they were going against each other,
[675.05] Mako: but also against manned race cars.
[677.17] Stephen: Interesting. I do like racing, don't they?
[680.77] Mako: Definitely more exciting to see the manned race cars.
[683.93] Mako: The autonomous ones were a bit slow and they would get kind of congested and confused
[688.09] Mako: with each other. Right.
[689.53] Mako: But it was kind of neat to see like a team of engineers working on this race car and
[693.49] Mako: another team of engineers.
[695.73] Stephen: It looked like they're kind of friendly to air shows and displays as well.
[699.09] Stephen: We had a guy on just last week who filmed some stuff in Abu Dhabi and they had some
[706.01] Stephen: incredible pyro and air show displays that they were allowed to do there, which is very
[711.21] Stephen: hard to kind of get rubber stamped in the rest of the world, I guess.
[716.29] Stephen: They seem very open to that type of stuff.
[718.73] Mako: Yeah, they had a race the week before in Sharjah and it was a live drone race, not
[724.85] Mako: virtual. And it was received very well.
[728.73] Mako: So they're definitely interested in that technology.
[732.77] Koel: You were doing some whoop racing stuff out there, too, right?
[735.21] Koel: Am I... Did you already...?
[736.69] Mako: No, actually, I should have mentioned this.
[738.33] Mako: We could not bring drones into the country.
[740.97] Koel: That's what I was wondering.
[742.13] Koel: I was curious about the legality of bringing the, you know, having quads over there.
[746.97] Koel: So maybe...
[747.61] Mako: Yeah, they even told me, like, don't even bring your whoop, because I was like, I'm
[750.73] Mako: just going to put my whoop in there.
[751.81] Mako: It's a toy.
[752.93] Mako: But they're like, don't, just don't.
[755.49] Mako: But so the drones that they flew in the live race were all built there.
[759.89] Mako: And normally in Drone Champions League, the live competitions are not just flight.
[764.77] Mako: The teams design with some specs, design and build all their drones.
[769.25] Mako: So it's not just flight, it's a competition of engineering, too.
[773.05] Mako: And that part was eliminated due to the fact that we couldn't bring drones in.
[776.89] Mako: So everyone flew the same drone that was built by DCL and they had, like, one very
[782.45] Mako: short opportunity to practice with them.
[785.37] Mako: And then they just went for it.
[787.01] Stephen: Wow.
[787.81] Stephen: What are the DCL drones like then?
[789.73] Stephen: Because they're not like freestyle quads.
[791.61] Stephen: They're not like other race quads either, are they?
[793.49] Stephen: They're pretty big.
[794.17] Mako: Yeah, I went where I had a picture, one handy.
[798.33] Mako: They have very large canopies.
[800.93] Mako: The ones I saw there had five inches, but I think they've flown seven inches in the
[804.77] Mako: past. I think they did HD zero for this race.
[809.73] Mako: Yeah, they did HD zero.
[811.57] Mako: Foxier also offered a lot of parts.
[816.17] Mako: I think they were flying five S.
[818.73] Stephen: Oh, wow.
[819.49] Stephen: Yeah, but they also really like to make them really big and like less overpowered than
[825.97] Stephen: regular freestyle, I guess.
[827.53] Stephen: So it looks more cinematic and easier for the cameras to track.
[830.69] Stephen: You kind of get right.
[831.41] Stephen: Exactly.
[832.29] Mako: Like I normally fly five inch drones, which are super the fast ones like this.
[837.29] Koel: Yeah.
[838.61] Mako: Those are much larger.
[840.37] Mako: You never worry about that.
[841.21] Mako: They can flow them down.
[843.25] UNKNOWN: Yeah.
[844.25] Mako: Yeah, they're much more slowed down, which I think makes for a more competitive race.
[850.53] Koel: Plus all the LEDs and everything, right, all over them.
[853.61] Koel: And, yeah, each thing has their own.
[854.93] Stephen: Yeah, it's like building GoPros as well.
[856.89] Stephen: They used to have like a special GoPro mount so all the drones would carry a GoPro and they
[861.25] Stephen: could do proper HD footage.
[863.25] Stephen: Do they still do that?
[863.97] Stephen: Oh, wow.
[865.13] Mako: Yeah, yep, yep, DRL did that too.
[869.21] Mako: Drone racing league.

[872.73] Stephen: So there's a massive difference between multi GP and DRL then.
[876.73] Stephen: Do you do both?
[878.57] Stephen: I mean, how do you approach them?
[879.73] Stephen: They sound like they'd be totally opposite ends of the spectrum.
[883.73] Mako: I know.
[884.25] Mako: I started with tiny whoops, those little indoor drones, which I talked to you guys about
[888.41] Mako: last time is here.
[889.69] Mako: And then I went to the five inch and right now multi GP, I've been in maybe over 150
[897.57] Mako: races.
[897.93] Mako: I bet for five inch and tiny looping, but they've just released a new spec for seven
[902.45] Mako: inch.
[903.97] Mako: So the race that they had in charge in the middle East was the same type of drone.
[909.77] Mako: So they're trying to get everyone on board with the spectrum, which is seven inches.
[913.57] Mako: It's really, really like durable.
[917.41] Mako: So I think like you're going to get much tighter racing.
[919.97] Mako: You're going to get fewer people breaking because the five inch drones, they just explode.
[925.81] Mako: If you hit something hard enough, they just explode.
[928.17] Mako: You have to have tons of backups if you're on race day.
[932.17] Mako: So that will be a really fun spec to fly.
[935.25] Mako: I just ordered up one the other day.
[938.09] Mako: So I want to build that up and they're flat.
[940.93] Mako: It's all HD zero.
[943.29] Mako: I think it's five S as well.
[944.85] Mako: But there's like you have to have twenty eight oh eight motors.
[948.73] Stephen: There's a couple of things that you need a thing or is that something different?
[952.57] Mako: Street League came first.
[955.37] Mako: And I think this was slightly inspired by Street League.
[957.93] Mako: There's a little drama with that.
[961.05] Mako: So Street League is no longer a part of multi GP.
[964.65] Mako: They kind of created their own spec, all prospect now.
[967.97] Mako: And they're they have a race on all this.
[970.73] Mako: Yeah, they have some races coming up around the country that they're really trying to
[974.13] Mako: promote and to get people all going to that.
[975.97] Mako: But I've seen a lot of pilots with frames and build.
[979.05] Mako: So I think it's going to catch on.
[980.93] Mako: I think people are tired of the five inch racing and just like breaking all their
[984.37] Mako: stuff all the time.
[985.37] Mako: And I think in order to get spectators on board, you're going to have to slow it down.
[989.77] Curry: Is that one of the ideas aside from the fact that obviously seven inches isn't as fast
[994.29] Curry: as five inches, a lot more volume to sort of have to displace.
[997.57] Curry: Yeah. Is it is it about being able to see them as well?
[1000.29] Curry: They're slightly bigger.
[1002.53] Mako: So yeah, they had a huge crowd.
[1005.57] Mako: I don't know if it was the biggest crowd.
[1007.33] Mako: I mean, our DCL race also had a big crowd.
[1009.57] Mako: They were similar, but they had a huge crowd at that charge event.
[1013.73] Mako: And they're going back in January.
[1015.61] Mako: So people are really liking it.
[1018.53] Mako: They had families in the audience.
[1020.21] Mako: They were doing giveaways.
[1021.41] Mako: It really made me think of another sporting event.
[1024.69] Curry: Well, that's cool.
[1025.81] Curry: Because how do you find aside from the big event like that one in Abu Dhabi?
[1031.33] Curry: How how's the sort of the racing scene in the US right now?
[1035.45] Curry: Because I think we've all sort of thought that it was this big bubble
[1041.05] Curry: several years ago and everything was going to be like, oh, this is going to be amazing.
[1043.93] Curry: And it seems to sort of dropped off.
[1045.53] Curry: And some would say the hobby is in decline.
[1047.33] Curry: And because, like, you know, there's there's a lot more stuff with remote
[1050.97] Curry: ID and bits like that, are you still finding it's a big scene
[1055.25] Curry: and people are still really into it and turning up all the events and things?
[1059.45] Mako: I think locally, we've slowed down a little bit.
[1062.57] Mako: So that might be the same around the country.
[1065.49] Mako: I'm not really sure.
[1066.53] Mako: But it's hard to tell.
[1068.25] Mako: I think it could go either way.
[1069.45] Mako: I think with the pro spec league that's coming out, it's really hyping everyone up
[1074.33] Mako: and to have because we don't really have a professional league in the US.
[1078.21] Mako: Kind of DRL has fallen off a little bit.
[1081.85] Mako: So multi GP is trying to pick up that slap.
[1084.81] Mako: And I think that has created a lot of hype.
[1087.17] Mako: A lot of pilots have a deep, respectful multi GP.
[1089.81] Mako: It's kind of where they started.
[1091.01] Mako: It's very grassroots.
[1092.13] Mako: So they know how to put on races.
[1094.93] Mako: I've been to FBI races.
[1097.09] Mako: I've been to the World Games, which had another group kind of
[1100.13] Mako: organizing it with FBI and no one does it like multi GP.
[1104.53] Mako: So if anyone can make it happen, they definitely will.
[1108.37] Mako: I'm seeing racers who kind of fell out of the game coming back like
[1111.89] Mako: Captain Vanover, for example, like he was a huge drone racer back in the day.
[1116.73] Mako: And he kind of moved to the cinematic scene doing movies.
[1119.65] Mako: And now he's coming back for the prospect heads up, kind of fell off a little bit.
[1124.89] Mako: And he's like full horseback at racing too.
[1127.49] Mako: So who knows?
[1128.69] Mako: I see potential for sure.
[1131.61] Mako: But I also see, you know, with regulations and stuff like it could be an issue.
[1136.61] Mako: A lot of, I work to get our fields to become what's called a Freya.
[1141.57] Mako: Here in the United States, we have Freya's.
[1143.17] Mako: So it's a place we can fly legally.
[1145.33] Mako: So all of our fields are Freya's.
[1147.61] Mako: And I know a lot of the multi GP choppers have worked to do that too.
[1152.09] Stephen: So there's some growing pressure then to be more media friendly, to be less like,
[1156.93] Stephen: hey, let's follow this insanely fast cloud of bees, which no camera can track.
[1161.85] Stephen: So you go bigger and you get HD cameras and then you can get replays that are not
[1166.49] Stephen: like crusty SD video, but they look nice.
[1169.53] Stephen: And you can do like the four up and it looks beautiful with everyone with HD.
[1173.37] Stephen: But at the same time, you've got all this pressure to be sub 250
[1177.93] Stephen: or jump through a load of legal hoops.
[1180.05] Stephen: So on the one hand, you're getting people interested in the sport.
[1183.81] Stephen: On the other hand, you've got more legal paperwork to get through
[1187.09] Stephen: to be able to actually do the race.
[1189.97] Stephen: How's that balance working out, do you think?
[1193.49] Mako: I think people are working their way around it because I think we all just love flying.

[1232.25] Mako: And they jumped through hoops and they did all the paperwork
[1234.49] Mako: and they got the race to happen.
[1236.53] Mako: And I know Major League Drone Racing, which is doing large drones, too.
[1241.65] Mako: They're having races in a lot of really cool locations and jumping through the hoops
[1245.25] Mako: and getting what needs to be done to do that.
[1247.13] Mako: And they're focusing on the spectator side of it.

[1279.13] Mako: Last year was my biggest year to date.

[1287.21] Mako: and got a three thousand dollar grant just to buy drone gear.

[1297.65] Mako: So I bought a bunch of they're called High Stingy.
[1301.37] Mako: That's the company because I've explored.
[1303.81] Mako: I've won a lot of different moves, a lot brush brush list.

[1309.21] Mako: I've done custom builds, everything.
[1311.53] Mako: And I tried this High Stingy kit.
[1314.09] Mako: They sent it to me full disclosure.

[1317.69] Mako: Like I've never seen kids be able to fly right away like this.
[1323.29] Mako: The one thing that the con is like they're 85 million meter around there.
[1329.57] Mako: So they're a little heavier and like but they're so durable in exchange

[1337.21] Mako: It's worth it because kids are going to destroy them. Yeah.
[1341.21] Mako: And it has like this gaming aspect of it.
[1344.33] Mako: So they don't use beta flight, but they want to teach the kids to tune
[1348.29] Mako: and program their drone.
[1349.81] Mako: So they have an app for that.
[1351.97] Mako: And it's like you can change the LED, you can increase the yaw.
[1356.25] Mako: So they're using that language.
[1358.09] Mako: You can decrease the pitch.
[1359.49] Mako: So you're in there like adjusting the settings.
[1361.97] Mako: And each drone has like an anime character.
[1365.01] Mako: So it's super engaging for them.
[1367.01] Mako: And, you know, it's all FPV.
[1369.33] Mako: So they were flying day one.
[1370.93] Mako: They're a little clumsy.
[1371.97] Mako: They've probably dropped the drone and goggles a hundred times.
[1375.77] Mako: But nothing's broken.
[1377.37] Mako: I mean, like maybe one camera.
[1379.13] Mako: We've lost a camera.
[1380.49] Mako: And that's not bad.
[1381.41] Mako: It's plug and play.
[1382.61] Mako: And it's all modular built.
[1385.29] Mako: So like you can teach them a little bit of building.

[1430.97] Mako: And the kids at the end of the year, now I'm on summer vacation.
[1436.33] Mako: They did the talent show and I had like five or six of them in the talent show
[1440.33] Mako: flying around with their little Jones.
[1442.93] Mako: It's awesome, including this program with, you know, teaching, reading,
[1446.61] Mako: writing, math and all that really made this year for them.
[1451.33] Mako: I've never had kids like crying at the end of the year
[1454.29] Mako: of it when they were leaving school because it was summer vacation.
[1457.09] Mako: Like they were they were so excited just to just to have that experience.
[1462.13] Mako: Because, you know, it's super hard to get into drones.
[1464.61] Mako: You can buy those cheap boy ones, but you really if you're a kid,
[1468.81] Mako: you really need like an apparent or a role model to help you.
[1472.37] Koel: Yeah, the learning curve to get in is tricky.
[1475.49] Koel: So that is pretty cool that yeah.
[1478.69] Koel: How do you say a high synergy or?
[1480.93] Mako: I think I'm saying right. High synergy.
[1483.41] Koel: Yeah, that is cool that they have that sort of option for.
[1487.41] Koel: I guess it is kind of geared as a toy ish type thing for kids.

[1494.13] Mako: Like, you know, I have on this little beta FPV kits that flew better than that.

[1500.85] Mako: And the goggles are a bit uncomfortable.
[1503.25] Mako: So I would definitely recommend not using those.
[1506.21] Mako: But when I was weird, strangely enough, when I was in Abu Dhabi,
[1509.65] Mako: they high synergy was there.
[1511.57] Mako: You know, I wasn't expecting that.
[1513.49] Mako: So I got to meet the creators always, at least.

[1519.33] Stephen: I think, yeah, that 85 mil is it's not used a lot,
[1522.37] Stephen: but you get that little bit extra durability and everything can be
[1526.13] Stephen: that little bit larger and less fiddly to connect makes a big difference.

[1533.97] Mako: So it had, you know, it had what you needed.

[1619.49] Mako: And I bought a couple of Amazon drones to one of those E-Shane drones.

[1637.89] Koel: I mean, even for me, a TX 16 S is like way too big for my hands.
[1641.33] Mako: So I can't even imagine like saying I had to switch to the Zara.

[1649.73] Koel: And I'm like, yes, I can go in a small box in my backpack.

[1659.57] Stephen: It's got a really basic screen, but I slap the gimbals off the Zorro in there.

[1673.41] Stephen: And I want something that's maybe going to have better battery life.
[1676.69] Stephen: But it's amazing how much you can kind of get done with a tiny little radio.

[1685.89] Mako: Like traveling in the airport and stuff like you can't fit a TX 16 in there.

[1739.41] Curry: If I'm testing whoops or little flyers, I can take this little tiny 20 litre backpack

[1753.97] Stephen: Every time I put that on, I'm like, I just mentally picture myself climbing a mountain.

[1776.37] Stephen: Someone's mentioned the T20 as well.
[1778.85] Stephen: We were quite I was quite down on on the jumper stuff to start with because they
[1783.41] Stephen: they were kind of in a bad place when they released that radio.
[1785.97] Stephen: But with the benefit of probably 12 months out in the field, I'm seeing more and more
[1791.17] Stephen: people say, you know, get this radio, put better gimbals on it and it's a keeper.
[1797.73] Koel: It's an interesting form factor.
[1799.09] Koel: It's almost it looks like a almost a squished version of a TX16S kind of,
[1805.41] Koel: but almost more rectangular, I guess.
[1809.01] Stephen: It's kind of like the one they did, but I'm blanking on it now.
[1815.41] Stephen: It's like the mono radio they did, but kind of much, much shorter vertically.
[1820.05] Stephen: But you take that TX16S form factor and you just smoosh it and you get rid of the color screen
[1825.41] Stephen: and you put the little OLED from a tango in there instead.
[1829.49] Stephen: And you just make it as short vertically as you can get away with.

[2177.01] Tony: And they've come in with this motor, which is like 120 newton meters of torque, I think,
[2183.57] Tony: which is just blowing everyone out of the water because I'm riding, it's 85 in turbo,

[2194.37] Tony: I think it can only do 120 for 30 seconds.
[2198.77] Tony: So you've got turbo and then you've got ultra turbo or turbo plus or something like that.

[2206.61] Stephen: It's getting toasty button and you can hold that down for quite a while on a cold day.
[2210.61] Tony: But they've put so many good things from their drones into it.

[2221.41] Tony: They've put that tech into their batteries.

[2231.81] Tony: I've charged my bike thinking I'm going to go out and don't go out for a few days.

[2750.05] Mako: Yeah, I think it's in more colleges now, which will be a huge draw for kids.

[2764.29] Mako: My race chapter has some crazy good racers like within the top 10 of the world.

[2835.09] Mako: And your ranking can feed you basically into like a pro class or a sport class for Champs.
[2841.09] Mako: So the spring qualifier, we didn't start flying where I live because we had
[2845.73] Mako: freak snowstorms so late in the year that our summer didn't really start until May.
[2851.41] Mako: And we usually get flying in April, and everyone was flying in March.
[2855.09] Mako: So we had lost a couple months with that.
[2857.97] Mako: And I didn't get to fly the spring one.
[2860.53] Mako: So I put in a time cold and wasn't incredibly happy with it.
[2864.29] Mako: So this summer one, I've already practiced it once.

[3058.29] Stephen: When you say Japanese challenge, all I think is there's a skateboarder who's got to do a trick

[3070.93] Mako: Bagzilla says that the multi GP prospect will bring bigger prize pools to future races.

[3257.41] Mako: So it's really great to see the younger kids getting into it

[3263.73] Mako: So we have one guy, Pino Pedro, the collegiate champion,

[3271.49] Mako: and he is just bringing racers to our races every week.
