[64.7] Frank: I am good, thank you. I am tired because in the past week I've done 63 hours of streaming.
[78.7] Frank: And that is a lot of work.
[82.7] Frank: But it's the third year I've been involved with this event and this has been the smoothest so far. This is the best I've felt after this event.
[96.7] Frank: We've gradually over the years pared away the older sketchier equipment, shored up the single points of failure. It's been a fairly smooth run this time. So that's good.

[118.7] Frank: He's been having lots of fun in the local Facebook groups this week with all the locals posting it. Ah! A fighter jet just flew over my garden. There's a B-52 flying over my garden.

[138.7] Frank: Yep. That will happen.
[140.7] Jack: That will happen every four years. Is that right?
[142.7] Frank: Two years, I think.
[144.7] Frank: Farnborough Airshow, you might be right. It might be four. I feel like it's two years. I think it's sort of... Covid has been involved and sort of changed the frequencies a bit.
[158.7] Frank: Yeah, so tomorrow at noon on the 26th of July, the public day of the Farnborough Airshow is going to be opened at noon by a drone. By an unmanned aerial vehicle.
[175.7] Frank: It's going to be the Phoenix Wings Orca. It's going to open the show.
[182.7] Jack: Does the CIA know about this?
[185.7] Frank: Oh yeah, yep, yep. It's definitely, you know, cleared and everything. So, yeah, I would quite like to say that, but I have a day job and I have neglected the day job too much. If anyone else goes to see it, will they take some pictures in this video and let me know.
[209.4] Frank: Interesting to see what...
[211.4] Jack: Do they mourn you back?
[213.4] Frank: Yeah, it turns out, if you want a regular source of income, you actually have to do some work. It's not how I want to play the game, but apparently that's the way it is.
[227.4] Frank: So, yeah, I'm not going to be able to see that, but I would like to see it. It's quite an excessively over-engineered thing, I feel like. It's not just a hexacopter.
[245.4] Frank: It's also, I think, got four. So it's like, imagine taking like a fixed wing. You know, like the VTOLs that have been coming out where they've got like two motors in the front and two motors in front of the wing, two motors behind the wing and they sort of pivot between vertical mode and the two at the front pulling and the two at the back pushing.
[272.4] Frank: That's been a thing that's been going around and has been frustrating people by not being set up properly. Well, they've got all that and they've also got like six lifting motors, I think, as well.
[284.71] Frank: So it's like, I feel like there's a lot of redundancy in this thing and it also does FLAM and ADS-B and they've got, oh yeah, it is rather ugly, but it's got a Jetty radio, which is like a hobby, like a high-end, but hobby radio.
[306.44] Frank: Jetty's used in quite often in like the, you can guess from the name, from the turbine world, like the scale models with actual jet engines in them that are like 10 grand a pop just for the jet engine, so it's nice.
[324.44] Frank: Yeah, it's got like a 868 and a 2.4 system together that sort of have diversity between them and redundancy between them. So imagine getting like a crossfire system and a tracer system and using them both.
[345.44] Frank: And the idea is it's very reliable, is the idea.
[352.44] Jack: Yeah, don't the like warbirds guys use that pen?
[359.44] Frank: Probably, like if you get into the big stuff, I think that's generally where it's used, like these jets and large models.
[367.44] Frank: Large models tend to be a bit more conservative and it's probably a bit more like Futaba type stuff. Yeah, what else has been going on?
[378.44] Frank: Have we spoken about tricops and meetup on the show? I don't remember.
[383.44] Jack: I showed my footage and that's it. I have got the Instagram upload that I can share because I uploaded your lovely pictures, Frank.
[407.44] Frank: Yeah, that was that was a fun day. Yes, that was like funny.
[413.44] Frank: I know actual summer. I'm like today where it's just been drizzly and gray and cold all day.
[422.44] Frank: Your swooshy tricopter, a big swooshy tricopter.
[429.44] Jack: Weebly wobbly, not that swooshy. Yeah, it was a bit. It was a bit terrifying.
[437.44] Frank: Yeah, they were taking that photo. I did jump back a bit at one point.
[444.44] Frank: Yeah, exceeded my comfort zone.
[449.44] Jack: I know. I do apologize, Frank.
[452.44] Frank: You were flying your, as some of their FPV in the chat recognized, David Bindestall, ROC Explorer, which version was it, V3?
[467.44] Jack: I think, yeah, I think it's a V3.
[473.75] Frank: With some eight inch five blades, was it?
[477.75] Jack: Yeah, eight inch slow flies.
[481.75] Frank: And they, yeah, looked, yes, in fairly good nick for presumably how old they are.
[491.75] Jack: Twenty, I've had those, the yellow ones I've definitely had since 2014.
[499.75] Jack: Just so you know.
[502.75] Frank: I can believe it.
[505.75] Frank: Yeah.
[507.75] Frank: And you didn't have, but what was your flight controller in that?
[513.75] Jack: It was a Kukutei F4 V1.
[519.75] Frank: Ah, yeah, because yours is new enough to be vaguely able to handle some vaguely modern version of Beaterwhite, right?
[528.75] Frank: Whereas mine is on an F3, my baby tricopter, and is therefore ineligible to be run on a vaguely modern.
[541.75] Frank: So I've got to work out something else.
[545.75] Jack: Yeah, you do have a lot of PIDs available to you.
[553.75] Jack: If you have the little 3D printed file tail tune thing, you're able to use the feedback wire, hopefully.
[567.75] Frank: Yeah, it's got the feedback wire, yeah.
[571.75] Jack: Did you flash it? Have you got it up and running?
[575.75] Frank: No, it's still running whatever version of whatever it was on in 2016 when I lost.

[590.75] Frank: I don't know. I think I last blew it on tri-flight, and then I think I flashed it with either a newer version of tri-flight, or Ronin, or something else.
[603.75] Frank: I don't know what, and then it's still needed tail tuning, and I couldn't work out how to do it, so it's not running since then, unfortunately.
[617.75] Jack: But there's a YouTube guide and everything.
[620.75] Frank: I know. At some point I'll do it, but there's other things I need to do, like sleep and laundry.
[631.48] Frank: And those things will be taking priority over the next week, at least, certainly.

[647.48] Frank: This is the 25th of July, 24th of July.
[650.48] Frank: We did start off talking about a drone opening the Farnborough Air Show.
[658.48] Frank: But, yeah, we've gone back a couple of weeks to when Jack and I went with Chris G, and blew tricopters, and rode e-bikes, and enjoyed ourselves.
[678.48] Frank: Well, I enjoyed myself anyway.
[682.48] Frank: It was an interesting place with flu, as well.
[687.48] Frank: It wasn't Brooklyn's, as effects know it's a guest, although it's a very good guest.
[692.48] Frank: Right area, sort of construction with the bank circuit, but it wasn't Brooklyn's.
[699.48] Frank: It was the old transport research laboratory, I think it was called, which is being developed into a housing estate.
[711.48] Frank: But they've got a few bits that are still there.
[714.48] Frank: So there's this banked curve of a speed run circuit.
[720.48] Frank: They've got a pond made out of skid pan, and they've got a fire watch tower, as well.
[730.48] Frank: That was quite fun.
[734.98] Frank: There were all sorts of road signs and things, and road markings were all left on all the old roads that they used to test.
[741.98] Frank: Oh, how was the roundabout meant to work?
[743.98] Frank: How was the bicycle lane best made?
[748.98] Frank: You know, when they were all testing out ideas for, like, are people going to understand these road signs and these road markings?
[755.98] Frank: And they would build it and get people to drive around it and see what people did before doing it out on the open road.
[764.98] Frank: Yeah, and then the hills start.
[768.98] Frank: Yeah, we learned more about it than we probably would have done, because it turned out the day that we went there, there was also a kid's treasure.
[777.98] Frank: So every two minutes, another crowd of children was turning up, being like, ah, where's the sign to tell us about the bank circuit?
[786.98] Frank: Oh, it's right next to these old blocks flying.
[790.98] Frank: We the men were flying.
[793.98] Jack: Dangerous toys.
[795.98] Frank: Yeah, slightly buzzy bits of wood.
[799.98] Frank: Well, there we go.
[802.98] Frank: Other than that, it was a good day flying.
[806.98] Frank: It's nice to see a couple of tricopters flying in formation for a bit.
[812.98] Frank: It's been fun when you and Chris G went up.
[817.98] Jack: Yeah, it was good.
[819.98] Jack: Just fly and have some company.
[823.98] Jack: Apparently, he's messaged me and said that the tricopters broken and he's like now redesigning a new one.
[832.98] Frank: Hmm.
[834.98] Frank: Yes, FX node has seen the picture and recognize that yes, Chris G has flaps on it.
[843.98] Frank: Chris has gone a slightly novel route of I think none of the motors tilt. It's just got control surfaces. Is that right?
[856.98] Jack: I think so. Yes.
[859.98] Jack: I don't think. Yes, I don't think any of them.
[866.39] Jack: I think the motor stay centered and they're slightly tilted so that to handle because all his props are the same direction and spin the same way.
[885.99] Jack: Whereas I have counter rotating props.
[889.99] Frank: Yeah.
[891.99] Frank: But it flew very well and could fly for a long time.
[898.99] Jack: Yeah. And then when it lands, it does a little wiggle constantly, which is quite adorable. The tricopter dance.
[910.72] Frank: Andy explained to me the origins of the dairy term.
[917.72] Frank: So a dairy term for people who don't know is where you do like.
[928.72] Frank: Usually you would bank to the right to turn right, for example, you bank to the right and then you pull right.
[938.72] Frank: You pull on your elevator and you sort of pitch up and go around that turn that way.
[945.72] Frank: And a dairy turn is where instead of doing the bank to the right and then pulling your right.
[952.72] Frank: What you do is you bank to the left and do like most of a barrel roll or not barrel roll.
[962.72] Frank: The other one. My brain is not functioning if you can't tell.
[969.72] Frank: So you roll left until you're pointing right and then you pull the turn right.
[977.72] Frank: And by doing that, if you've got someone chasing you in a dogfight in Second World War, it's all the message mitts versus fit fires type of fighting.
[990.72] Frank: You discourage them from following you. You kind of feign going left by instead going right and vice versa.
[1003.72] Frank: Actually, that is a dairy term.
[1006.72] Frank: I have been told approximately four times in the past week.
[1015.72] Frank: Where the dairy when the dairy chain gets his name from, probably a guy called Mr. Derry.
[1023.72] Frank: He's probably a John Derry, I'm guessing, but I can't remember.
[1028.72] Frank: And usually at this point, I'm doing something else and only half listening to make sure the audio level is vaguely in the right area, which is the challenge when there's an afterburner.

[1045.72] Frank: As requested, that is the origins of the dairy.

[1055.72] Frank: But the turning means I guess it's the same idea.

[1191.36] Jack: Well, because one has the USB snapped off it.

[1203.36] Jack: And I just put the new replacement flight controller next to it.
[1208.36] Jack: Because there's two spaces to work and you're supposed to.
[1212.36] Jack: What you're going to do is jam two boards in there and take parts off one to fix the other.

[1226.36] Jack: But yeah, it's kind of I just left it in there.
[1230.36] Jack: Put the other one in there.
[1232.36] Jack: De-soldered up so all the holes are clear.
[1236.36] Jack: And yeah, I can sit there on the bench.
[1240.36] Jack: And kind of try and get it running because I don't think in iNav you can reassign outputs.
[1253.36] Jack: So I don't know how how well it's going to work.
[1259.36] Jack: But apparently this has iNav on it.
[1262.36] Jack: And in theory, we'll be able to give it a go.
[1271.93] Jack: And yeah, I just want to try and have it on the bench and see whether I can get the servo to wiggle a bit.

[1313.96] Jack: Well, the the whole hope of it was to build a tricopter that could take the eighteen six fifties and have like four s to be.
[1328.96] Jack: But with David's current design on that tricopter, the camera plate just isn't big enough or wide enough.
[1343.96] Jack: Yeah.
[1345.96] Frank: Well, room for improvement.
[1348.96] Jack: Yes. Yeah.
[1350.96] Jack: I might be sending some files over to eight.
[1356.96] Jack: Who are the guys who like cut carbon?
[1360.96] Jack: Oh, so, yes, I might have to do a tricopter, but we custom custom firmware.
[1372.96] Jack: And my next little issue is, you know, amending the tricopter 3D printing things because I've got the normal sized servo hole.
[1391.94] Jack: But of course, if I do end up getting a bluebird from you, say I am, I won't be able to.

[1409.02] Jack: So I need I might need someone to tweak the ad files, which may be Caroline or when I don't know, or I might have to learn how to do it myself.

[1430.02] Jack: But, you know, I've had a I've had a good look for files already available and there just isn't any.

[1494.37] Frank: In the meantime, there was a bit of news that I saw recently, which I found entertaining just that up in Northumberland,
[1508.37] Frank: there's a there's a health hub, a sort of more than a GP surgery less than a hospital in a rural location that's a bit difficult to get to.
[1522.37] Frank: But it serves a lot of people where they were trying to get drone deliveries of drugs and things to this health hub from the hospital.
[1535.37] Frank: And it has been held up because the local residents concerns that it's going to be disrupting the wildlife.
[1546.37] Frank: And particularly, there's a bridal way where they're worried it's going to spook the horses and cause more injuries,
[1558.37] Frank: which I sort of found vaguely amusing that I think a fixed wing delivery drone as is done elsewhere in the world is going to end up causing more disruption to their horsey ways than just a big delivery track turning up occasionally.
[1586.37] Frank: But there we go. Yes, the next wing racing Lee event is the Pontifract flying club on the 31st of August at Powerline's home turf.

[1838.58] Jack: And the other one, the S800 is just like an INAF sort of fly about.
[1849.58] Jack: I mean, that thing stays up in the air for like 20 minutes, half an hour.

[1859.58] Jack: And I mean, it flies for so long that I had to put in a sort of circuit to charge the GoPro.

[1872.58] Frank: That is significant.
[1874.58] Jack: Because it's got a GoPro Hero 3 in it.
[1878.58] Jack: Black.
[1880.58] Jack: That somehow Tony didn't destroy.
[1885.58] Jack: And I sold my GoPro Hero for black with the quads sort of set up with the gimbal and that.
[1895.58] Jack: I never did quite get working to where I, you know, was all right with it.
[1901.58] Jack: And like, you know, I sort of like done things like try to cut the arms down and stuff.
[1906.58] Jack: I just I don't think the frame was stiff enough.
[1909.58] Jack: It should have been made out of like really thick carbon.
[1914.58] Jack: And yeah, I just think motor technology and everything's kind of moved on a lot.
[1924.11] Jack: And that S800, you know, I kind of built her for just cruising around and like having a good time and just flying around the valley.
[1944.11] Jack: And, you know, I enjoy it because it's like super dense foam.
[1947.11] Jack: The thing just bounces around.
[1949.11] Jack: There is one thing I don't like about it is it's like antenna.
[1955.11] Jack: Like, you know, when I made it, the the VTX antenna thing didn't exist.
[1964.11] Jack: And, you know, the Aeropod.
[1968.11] Jack: But, you know, now now I've got on.
[1970.11] Jack: But, you know, they're all on left hand as well, which doesn't count.
[1975.11] Frank: Well, as long as you're not everything's left hand and you're not playing with any digital people, then it's not a problem, is it?
[1983.11] Jack: Yeah, but yeah, they're everywhere.
[1991.11] Jack: Yeah, Christie's the only good one.

[2039.14] Frank: He charged the tricopter and I can vouch that, yes, the cells are now an integral part of that tricopter.
