[0.0] Jack: Hello, and you're listening to Let's Drone Out, a special thank you to our lovely patrons
[6.28] Jack: that help donate so that we can pay the editor to remove the swear words and silly things
[11.36] Jack: we say.
[13.0] Jack: Massive thank you to…
[14.4] Jack: Carlos Campos!
[16.2] Stephen: Art Faulkner!
[17.84] Stephen: Sam Dahmer.
[19.68] Stephen: On with the show.
[20.68] Stephen: Hello and welcome to Let's Drone Out, episode 467, recorded
[58.3] Stephen: on Thursday, the 8th of August, 2024.
[63.24] Stephen: With us this week, we are joined by our Lord and Master, Frank.
[68.9] Stephen: Hello!
[70.34] Stephen: And the wonderful Bright Until I Fly, Jack.
[73.74] Stephen: Hello!
[74.74] Stephen: I'm the idiot with a moustache, Stephen, how have you guys been?
[79.58] Frank: Good!
[80.58] Frank: Good!
[81.58] Frank: It's turned very wet again.
[83.34] Frank: We had like a week of summer, and it's now returned to drizzle and grey, but what's
[91.5] Frank: it like?
[92.5] Stephen: Oh, I'm going to do a beer-related product placement.
[95.32] Stephen: This is called Employee of the Month, and it's yummy.
[98.38] Stephen: I'm going to actually even refocus my camera because it's so lovely.
[102.34] Stephen: It's a milk stout.
[103.34] Stephen: It's by Pretty Decent Brewing, who are indeed Pretty Decent.
[108.46] Stephen: It's very nice.
[109.46] Stephen: Highly recommend.
[110.46] Frank: Hashtag not sponsored.
[113.1] Jack: Nah, that'll be the day.
[115.46] Jack: They pay our way in beer.
[117.46] Jack: I've bought, no, I've built what I can only describe as a bomb.
[123.58] Jack: Oh!
[124.58] Frank: That does look like Baking Bomb Shape.
[126.58] Frank: That is air travel compatible, right?
[128.94] Jack: That is very, very bomb-like.
[131.14] Jack: Are those all soldered on?
[133.7] Jack: Um, it turns out...
[137.34] Jack: Chef Kiss, beautiful.
[139.22] Jack: The fake Kenwick solder braid is cheaper than nickel strips.
[146.82] Jack: Yeah, probably burns a lot better as well, doesn't it?
[150.66] Jack: Yes, vaporoids it very well.
[152.9] Frank: So, for audio listeners, this is a 4S3P Lion Pack.
[163.1] Stephen: We can certainly see 12 cells.
[164.82] Frank: Oh, 3...
[165.82] Jack: No, 3S for parallel.
[166.82] Jack: 3S4P.
[168.42] Jack: Sorry.
[169.42] Jack: No, Tony's here.
[170.9] Jack: Hang on.
[171.9] Jack: They've sent Tony an invite.
[173.5] Stephen: Tony likes Pretty Decent beer.
[175.34] Stephen: They're great.
[176.34] Stephen: They do raspberry sour slushies on hot days.
[179.82] Stephen: You get like half a pint of beer and half a pint of frozen beer on top in like a Mr.
[186.18] Stephen: Whippy swirl.
[188.3] Stephen: It's pretty awesome when it's really, really hot.
[191.42] Stephen: So what are you going to do with this bomb?
[194.06] Stephen: If you've got any flights planned, maybe take it on holiday with you.
[197.7] Frank: I think it's going to be like the world's most abusive whoopee cushion.
[204.46] Jack: Yeah.
[205.46] Jack: None of it.
[208.46] Jack: I've built it.
[209.46] Jack: I've realised the errors of my ways and no longer want to continue because it weighs
[219.94] Jack: a tonne.
[220.94] Jack: I've done all the maths.
[222.34] Stephen: Can you say a tonne?
[223.34] Stephen: Don't justify that for our audio listeners because we can only see.
[226.3] Stephen: We cannot feel.
[228.78] Jack: It was nothing.
[231.86] Jack: It's like it's basically pretty much 400 grams for 300 grams.
[238.5] Jack: But what's the capacity?
[239.5] Jack: It must be.
[240.5] Jack: We worked it out.
[243.18] Jack: It's point seven milliamp.
[247.7] Stephen: So it's like point seven and power seven hundred mile and four hundred grams.
[254.3] Stephen: That is no.
[255.3] Frank: That cannot be right.
[256.3] Jack: That's another level of power.
[259.14] Jack: Zero point seven hundred milliamps per cell.
[265.26] Jack: Per cell.
[266.26] Jack: Right.
[267.26] Stephen: Okay.
[268.26] Stephen: And you've got four in parallel.
[269.26] Stephen: Yeah.
[270.26] Stephen: You can't have naught point seven milliamps per cell.
[273.7] Stephen: That is.
[274.7] Stephen: What are they?
[276.7] Stephen: The units are wrong.
[278.7] Stephen: Are they just capacitors?
[280.7] Stephen: It's like count as a battery when you've got less than a milliamp in it.
[284.14] Jack: I'll be honest with you, I did work it out, but my working out was on a Tupperware and
[290.5] Jack: it blew out the window.
[291.5] Jack: How big is each cell?
[293.1] Jack: Notionally, how large is each cell?
[295.54] Jack: Right, Frank.
[296.54] Jack: Yeah.
[297.54] Jack: It is six point four a watt hour per cell.
[302.34] Jack: Right.
[303.66] Jack: Three point seven volts.
[306.98] Jack: Yeah.
[308.66] Frank: So seventeen fifty milliamp hour per cell and you've got three of them.
[317.85] Frank: Well, four in parallel.
[319.85] Frank: Oh, yeah. Four.
[320.85] Frank: You're getting it that wrong.
[322.05] Frank: Never.
[323.21] Frank: So it's seven ampere and power.
[326.93] Frank: That's big.
[328.17] Frank: Seven naught point seven milliamps.
[330.17] Jack: It's seven amp hours.
[331.97] Jack: Sorry.
[333.49] Jack: My Mr. Decimal went on holiday in the wrong place.
[337.57] Jack: Yeah, something like that.
[338.57] Jack: I worked it up.
[339.65] Stephen: Just just by like, yeah.
[342.49] Stephen: What's an order of magnitude between friends or even six?
[345.81] Stephen: Sorry.
[346.81] Stephen: Just it's too big.
[347.81] Stephen: A hundred times a hundred.
[348.81] Stephen: It's too heavy.
[351.01] Stephen: Well, for seven amp hour, I mean, you could you could long range on that.
[354.21] Stephen: You just need something with that was the plan.
[356.81] Jack: That was the plan.
[357.81] Stephen: The only other thing I could do is stagger them.
[362.57] Stephen: It looks like they'll auto stagger on landing.
[365.05] Jack: Perfect.
[365.57] Jack: Yeah.
[367.41] Jack: Well, enthusiastic, man.
[368.69] Jack: I don't know.
[369.45] Jack: I just don't know how I feel about it.
[371.17] Jack: Have you got something that will fly on 3S?
[373.09] Jack: You do. You've got 3S quads, haven't you?
[375.73] Jack: No. The lowest I've got is 4S.
[379.01] Jack: Oh, you say that.
[380.17] Jack: But you used to fly on 3S.
[382.05] Frank: You would fly on that, wouldn't it?
[383.25] Frank: Oh, he can't fly the tricopter though.
[385.65] Stephen: That's that's reserved for special occasions with only the most premium of components.
[390.85] Stephen: I don't think you've been.
[392.89] Jack: I could take it to the bottom.
[394.13] Stephen: Put it on the 4S quad.
[395.25] Stephen: It just means your hover throttle will be like 40 percent or something.
[398.49] Stephen: We'll go for the ground.
[401.17] Stephen: Just be a bit of a dog.
[402.81] Stephen: Go on.
[403.93] Frank: I feel like nothing else.
[407.45] Stephen: Oh, you should fly it, mate, just to see what the voltage sounds like.
[410.77] Stephen: I mean, you don't even need to get high off the ground.
[413.01] Stephen: You could just get two foot off the ground and stay there for a couple of minutes
[416.53] Stephen: and see, does it get ludicrously hot?
[419.57] Stephen: Does it just smoke and the quad falls to the floor or, you know?
[423.65] Jack: There is out of the cells are out of discarded vape batteries.
[429.57] Jack: Now, the normal discard vape battery is this big.
[435.09] Jack: Which is the size of a good crayon.
[437.81] Jack: These are substantially bigger,
[443.21] Jack: but they just weigh a ton.
[444.53] Stephen: They're just not that probably means that they're going to carry more
[447.45] Stephen: more current without heating up, right?
[450.49] Jack: I don't know.
[451.69] Jack: I don't. I'm scared.
[452.97] Jack: I'm a little bit scared of it.
[454.89] Jack: I accidentally knocked it over
[457.45] Jack: and it shorted and melted and vaporized the sort of braid that it fell on.
[464.01] Stephen: But these are all positive contraindications, Jack,
[467.29] Stephen: of making a good quality battery.
[471.65] Stephen: I don't know. Have you got your 3S?
[474.29] Stephen: Yes, I do. I've got lots of 3S things, but none of them
[477.09] Stephen: that left 400 mental, mental check, mental check.
[481.45] Stephen: Was that quad that you built me a 3S quad?
[485.01] Stephen: No, it's four, but OK.
[488.97] Stephen: I feel like one of these pick swings would take it.
[492.01] Stephen: Yeah, I mean, a winger take it for sure. Yeah.
[496.01] Stephen: I think most of mine, I've definitely
[499.41] Stephen: so I've done like a low and slow flying on.
[504.81] Stephen: An 18650 3S pack with just a regular five inch quad
[511.05] Stephen: that was built for 6S, and it was difficult to fly, but it flew.
[519.73] Jack: The thing is, is this is like 300 and something odd grams.
[524.77] Jack: So the time I put balance connectors on it in order to charge it and then put
[530.81] Jack: an XT 60 on it.
[535.05] Jack: I'm it's terrifying.
[537.41] Jack: Do you have? It'll be all right, mate.
[539.81] Jack: You're so negative. Just give it a whirl.
[542.25] Jack: It comes with fish paper already installed.
[544.41] Stephen: You're always carrying a GoPro and the GoPro is like, what, 150 grams?
[549.69] Stephen: Just don't fly with the GoPro.
[552.49] Stephen: You're 150 grams positive already.
[555.41] Jack: I mean, can you imagine adding another,
[558.89] Jack: you know, another four?
[560.93] Jack: Yes, adding another cell to it.
[563.49] Jack: You can always wait for that.
[565.05] Jack: We can keep this on the side away.
[567.65] Stephen: And then you should just try try it on a forest quad
[571.37] Stephen: and just at least do a hover test.
[573.05] Stephen: You know, you can do a hover test outside somewhere with a space
[577.85] Stephen: and, you know, just get it off the ground a couple of feet.
[582.89] Stephen: Give it a quick check.
[583.65] Frank: I've a bone of four inch quad with a
[587.21] Frank: I go either a 4000 or a 10000 million power
[592.41] Frank: life paper for that.
[594.01] Frank: That's looks very silly, but it flies.
[597.17] Jack: Yeah. Hmm.
[598.41] Jack: I mean, Tony had a field pack and we take that to the wooden copter.
[605.29] Jack: What was that?
[606.65] Tony: What, 20,000 million pound?
[608.17] Stephen: I think. Yeah.
[610.09] Stephen: It was like a housebreak.
[611.77] Stephen: Stuff will take off.
[612.73] Stephen: It'll just take a lot of beans to get it off the ground or work.
[616.61] Tony: I started my car using a forest last week.
[621.29] Tony: Really? Yeah.
[623.29] Tony: Well, that battery and I said, oh, well, Bruce, I've got a life out here.
[626.85] Tony: I can take apart the ends.
[628.85] Tony: Took the took the
[632.25] Tony: now put it apart.
[634.05] Tony: So it was loose wires.
[635.61] Tony: And I said, I want it on there, bruv.
[638.57] Tony: And he started first go really well.
[641.69] Stephen: What what engine size was that?
[644.29] Tony: Two liter.
[645.65] Tony: Wow, it's not bad.
[647.17] Tony: To the petrol was my Integra Type R.
[650.77] Stephen: Wow. And that was what like just a regular one amp hour quad pack.
[656.05] Tony: Yeah, it was a no, it was a it was a 5000 milliamp forest.
[661.57] Tony: A bit chunkier than did it get warm at all or?
[664.45] Tony: Just went straight on and started the car.
[667.93] Stephen: You see some that sold as car starting packs.
[670.45] Stephen: And they're just like slightly larger versions of phone charges.
[675.01] Stephen: It's it's nuts.
[676.49] Stephen: They're not even as big as they've got loads of.
[679.57] Stephen: They've got to step up in them.
[681.17] Stephen: Yeah. Yeah.
[682.01] Tony: I have no idea when that was last charged either.
[685.21] Tony: So I've got no idea if how flat, how not flat it is, whatever.
[690.53] Tony: But she started.
[691.89] Jack: That's the job. Yeah.
[693.69] Jack: Frank, if you've got if you've got something wing related
[697.41] Jack: that can take this monstrosity,
[700.17] Frank: then at least fixed wing.
[702.01] Frank: I feel like one of these could be big enough.
[704.89] Jack: It's if we can meet up, I'll put it on a quad.
[710.17] Jack: Isn't there something happening tomorrow, Frank?
[712.77] Jack: No, next week, Friday.
[716.21] Tony: Oh, OK. The six people you sound like you're getting a bit better.
[723.37] Jack: I can faintly smell things again.
[727.33] Jack: That's about it. Hey, Cole, how are you doing, buddy?
[729.97] Jack: You have the dreaded code that.
[732.69] Jack: Yeah, I know.
[734.61] Jack: Yeah. To the world.
[736.45] Tony: Well, that's just got it again.
[738.61] Jack: Medical medical data, rough medical data leak.
[743.53] Jack: Curry getting always fantastic.
[748.73] Jack: Yep. I had covered and then they gave me antiviral and.
[760.67] Jack: Yeah, that was weird.
[762.91] Jack: It was the only thing I could describe it is
[766.75] Jack: for the whole time I was taking it.
[768.19] Jack: It was like I was licking the tin man's arsehole.
[772.23] Jack: It just constant.
[773.71] Tony: Doesn't that metallic nice taste come in your mouth because of Covid anyway?
[777.43] Tony: Because when Bruce got it last, he said, I've got a metallic taste
[780.87] Tony: in my mouth for two days and then it went away and I was right.
[785.27] Jack: No, I mean, this this just stayed constantly.
[789.67] Jack: So I don't know.
[791.67] Jack: Yeah, it was.
[793.51] Jack: I didn't have it whilst I had Covid and then.
[799.35] Jack: When I took the antivirals, that's when I got it.
[804.23] Tony: If you want to get your nose working again, just go out and get some
[807.43] Tony: Beccanese, give it two couple of squirts up each nostril.
[811.07] Stephen: Oh, there's something even more ludicrous than Beccanese.
[815.87] Stephen: They make this stuff that's just like to forcibly clear.
[820.43] Stephen: Beccanese is just like, is it flower pollen?
[824.07] Stephen: It used to be steroid, but it's not anymore.
[825.83] Stephen: It's for hay fever.
[827.51] Stephen: But the you can get this stuff that's designed for like cold and flu.
[831.51] Stephen: And you're supposed to have one squirt up the nose.
[834.19] Stephen: And it just like shrinks the tissue inside your nose or something.
[838.59] Stephen: And it's just like it feels genuinely scary.
[841.91] Stephen: But it clears your nose and makes your eyes water at the same time.
[845.07] Tony: Well, when I couldn't smell the taste for 28 days, I went to the doctor
[849.31] Tony: and they gave me steroids and I had one squirt each nozzle.
[852.83] Tony: And I was like, oh, it's back, my God.
[856.79] Tony: Next time I've done it, I'll go, did I get Covid?
[859.87] Tony: Yeah, I got Covid again, I think.
[861.67] Tony: I went to the doctors and tried to, you know, give you some steroids in there.
[868.59] Tony: And they just said Beccanese.
[870.91] Tony: And I just literally went, then it worked.
[873.59] Tony: So try that, Jack.
[875.67] Jack: I'm sure. Try that.
[880.2] Stephen: It's a Beccanese sauce.
[881.92] Stephen: OK. Beccanese.
[883.72] Stephen: Yeah, that's all you need.
[885.0] Stephen: Smear the mayonnaise and bacon compound
[887.96] Stephen: on the inside of your nostrils and your life will improve 200 percent.
[892.16] Tony: And then eat that moldy cheese.
[895.16] Tony: The blue cheese stuff.
[897.08] Stephen: That's what you're right at.
[899.04] Stephen: Has anyone been flying this week not to derail the conversation?
[903.32] Tony: Come on, this is a part of something that might be a changing.
[909.24] Tony: No, but pretty decent vehicle is a great company.
[912.24] Tony: Yeah, absolutely.
[914.84] Stephen: I love it.
[916.92] Stephen: Maybe we can get we can get a sponsorship if we say enough.
[919.76] Stephen: Who knows?
[921.12] Stephen: That'd be nice.
[922.16] Tony: It paid in beer.
[924.56] Tony: Not no flying for me.
[925.88] Tony: I'm looking forward to the neo, but I think it might be an indoor quad.
[930.32] Tony: No, yeah, but I really wanted it to be an outdoor.
[934.72] Tony: Well, it might work outdoors if there's no wind,
[937.96] Tony: but 135 or 60 grams is
[942.32] Tony: quite light, isn't it?
[943.92] Stephen: It looks like a man's tech discovered that the DJI gimbals
[948.8] Stephen: was it walks now?
[949.68] Stephen: Gimbals aren't walks now.
[951.08] Stephen: They just rebadged some generic Chinese gimbal.
[953.88] Stephen: And it's available for like 10 or 20 bucks less.
[957.64] Stephen: If you buy an Aliexpress from the the actual company.
[961.76] Frank: No, that is fairly standard, right?
[965.24] Stephen: I mean, it is, but it's also slightly careless and exasperating.
[971.48] Frank: Yeah, I don't know if they pick one that works well
[975.12] Frank: for the application, narrow down the choices.
[978.28] Frank: That's a that's a value in itself, I think.
[981.24] Stephen: And they are selling like a wireless module, which is quite nice.
[984.08] Stephen: So you can just have fire and forget like double sided tape,
[988.52] Stephen: but the wireless module on your goggles and it'll do the link
[992.04] Stephen: to the gimbal without you having to talk to the radio,
[995.8] Stephen: which is nice, so long as your radio link doesn't get screwed up
[998.6] Stephen: by having another radio link running at the same time, of course.
[1001.28] Frank: Yeah, that doesn't sound amazing.
[1003.2] Frank: That is true.
[1004.96] Frank: But it's a good idea.
[1007.04] Stephen: So long as you don't have any kind of signal issues to start with.
[1010.12] Stephen: But there's going to be people who have slightly borderline signal
[1013.76] Stephen: where it might just cause a bit of complexity. Yeah.
[1018.8] Frank: What else been going on?
[1020.36] Frank: As as Gusto mentioned in the channel a while ago,
[1024.72] Frank: we had a collective
[1030.32] Frank: memory dump onto our faxes
[1033.84] Frank: is show on Sunday.
[1036.08] Frank: He specially organized a Sunday show for us.
[1040.8] Frank: A Sunday afternoon UK time show
[1045.72] Frank: instead of usual three o'clock in the morning
[1048.76] Frank: on a Wednesday morning or something.
[1051.36] Frank: But the show is usually for UK time.
[1055.72] Frank: So that was very nice of them to accommodate us.
[1059.4] Frank: And yeah, I enjoyed that greatly going through loads of old things.
[1065.96] Frank: Yeah, they picked out a load of videos
[1068.48] Frank: from way back when when we went through them all.
[1073.48] Stephen: I rocked up at the end and felt like I embarrassed myself completely.
[1076.16] Stephen: But so I didn't feel sorry for you.
[1081.04] Stephen: Well, I just had a couple of friends who'd come over
[1084.2] Stephen: and I've been having a couple of points with them.
[1087.52] Stephen: I mean, when I say come over, I mean, one of them was like in Singapore
[1090.84] Stephen: and the other one was in Netherlands.
[1092.28] Stephen: So they just said earlier that they oh, by the way, we're in London.
[1096.24] Stephen: We're not just in London.
[1097.36] Stephen: We're like your local pub.
[1098.84] Stephen: That's 200 meters from your house.
[1100.48] Stephen: I'm like, what, what, what, what, what?
[1101.76] Stephen: So I ran down there,
[1103.92] Stephen: but rather excited to be had a couple of points.
[1106.0] Stephen: Having thought that I'd missed the show because I checked the listing
[1108.96] Stephen: and it said it was at like at 10 a.m.
[1110.84] Stephen: And I was like, oh, well, I don't have to do the podcast because it was at 10 a.m.
[1113.8] Stephen: It's still ready.
[1114.76] Stephen: And then someone says, oh, actually, no, that's the other time zone.
[1118.32] Stephen: It's it's it's at 6 p.m.
[1120.48] Stephen: So run around, run back.
[1123.4] Stephen: Jack takes the text me saying it's 6 a.m.
[1125.8] Tony: And it's 6 a.m. in the morning.
[1127.56] Tony: You've got to get up and I'll be up by then because I go to airsoft in the morning.
[1133.44] Tony: But you'll see me all in my airsoft gear.
[1137.72] Tony: So it's maybe a clock, right?
[1140.12] Tony: If maybe a clock, indeed.
[1142.24] Frank: This is this follows on to the next topic of next week.
[1148.04] Frank: We celebrate nine years of Jack reinstalling
[1153.2] Frank: an updating mid show.
[1155.0] Frank: Yeah, it is.
[1157.24] Stephen: Nine years of starting the show and instantly knocking a microphone cable loose.
[1165.08] Tony: Nine years.
[1165.96] Tony: I think we should put a vote in the chat if we should bother to get to 10
[1170.0] Tony: because I know that's what Jack wants to do.
[1172.24] Stephen: Put a vote in the chat.
[1173.16] Stephen: Should we bother to get to nine?
[1175.44] Tony: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
[1180.6] Jack: Oh, yeah, but we'll have the episode 500 celebration episode.
[1186.92] Tony: Is that 10 years?
[1189.52] Frank: Is that before that is before the fires
[1194.12] Jack: March and the March next year, Tony is going to get his nipples waxed.
[1201.44] Tony: You pay me enough.
[1203.2] Jack: Live on air.
[1204.6] Stephen: I watched watch Curry's tricopter videos.
[1208.32] Stephen: I'm interested in that.
[1210.36] Jack: We are very, very drunk.
[1215.08] Stephen: No, no, I just thought it's interesting to be kind of old and new.
[1220.44] Stephen: Like he's got really old motors in a wobbly frame
[1224.0] Stephen: and he's got like a new flight controller.
[1226.16] Stephen: And so he has to tune everything down to stop it reacting.
[1228.88] Stephen: So if it tries to react, it will just, you know, overcompensate.
[1232.76] Stephen: And he ended up stripping the servo, which is probably a little bit predictable
[1236.04] Stephen: because the servo probably needed a bit of filtering.
[1238.44] Stephen: So it's not to be constantly humming and stripping itself.
[1242.68] Stephen: But yeah, it's interesting.
[1244.76] Jack: That's what I did.
[1246.8] Jack: You know, I bolted on a full flight controller.
[1252.56] Stephen: I did wonder if it could be a good use case for one of those super ultra servos
[1257.64] Stephen: that no one really needs.
[1258.76] Stephen: You know, the giant metal gear jobbies that can lift a small car.
[1263.0] Jack: I did I did me like, you know, in the I used to go to like the the drone.
[1271.8] Jack: You know, like you, I mean, the.
[1275.88] Jack: Like me up thing, you know,
[1279.52] Jack: no, industrial me.
[1281.92] Stephen: I think you talk about with the car park with where they have the weapons
[1287.36] Stephen: and, you know, they also sell the special pills.
[1290.0] Stephen: And there's the guy, the guy in the corner, you know.
[1292.52] Stephen: No, there's the Excel center, you know, like the motors, you know,
[1296.48] Stephen: the motors and the batteries, the whippets, like.
[1301.96] Tony: Excel center in London during Expo.
[1307.68] Jack: Yeah. And they may have like M.O.D.
[1310.36] Jack: with like demonstration bombs and bloody.
[1314.8] Stephen: And I just go, you just built one.
[1316.8] Stephen: We've missed the button on that.
[1319.56] Jack: You know, I'd have a guy defusing this baby.
[1324.96] Jack: I went there and I they gave me a free pencil,
[1329.32] Jack: but I saw some of the most crazy like industrial
[1334.48] Jack: actuator servos and stuff.
[1336.64] Jack: And I'm like, I love one of them.
[1339.12] Jack: But they're probably like a thousand pound per unit.
[1342.8] Stephen: I think the dirty secret is the military stuff is basically
[1345.96] Stephen: for the most part these days, the same as the civilian stuff,
[1348.8] Stephen: but with a higher price tag and the guarantee
[1351.08] Stephen: that they'll keep it in stock for like 20 years.
[1355.8] Frank: And a good service package.
[1357.92] Frank: You pay us another one hundred thousand pounds
[1359.96] Frank: to show you where the on button is.
[1362.0] Stephen: Right. We'll train it to people who learned to read last week.
[1367.4] Tony: I think I want to go to the Excel center to get a pencil there.
[1372.36] Stephen: Yeah, that's good value.
[1374.0] Stephen: No, the M.O.D., you know, hard times.
[1376.48] Stephen: There's only so many pencils to go around.
[1378.16] Stephen: It's probably quite a rarity.
[1380.08] Frank: The next one is on the 24th and 25th of September.
[1384.6] Stephen: I was going to say that the military angle is an interesting one
[1388.16] Stephen: because we're seeing a lot of kit that's built in the U.S.
[1391.8] Stephen: And there's some kind of question that outside of China,
[1395.56] Stephen: who has a giant manufacturing industry, say, if you if you buy a drone
[1399.48] Stephen: that's made in the U.K., maybe it happens.
[1403.76] Stephen: Is there a remote chance that you could get it
[1407.16] Stephen: without basically sponsoring the defense industry?
[1411.0] Stephen: Would the company like that be able to exist?
[1414.52] Stephen: Without just being an extension of the M.O.D.
[1418.0] Stephen: And I think it is definitely not the case in the U.S.
[1420.52] Stephen: What do you use to eat, Jack?
[1423.28] Jack: You know, one of those dry packets, I say, do not eat.
[1425.96] Jack: I thought I'd give it a go.
[1427.92] Stephen: Are you feeling very, very dry, like way, way too dry?
[1433.04] Stephen: Did you taste it, love?
[1435.56] Stephen: Yeah, it tastes like chemicals.
[1438.2] Stephen: You really do hate your guts, don't you?
[1440.72] Jack: What more damage am I going to do to it?
[1442.52] Tony: We're going to find out.
[1443.84] Tony: You could have done that on the 500th episode or something.
[1447.8] Jack: You can actually buy those with candy in them,
[1454.65] Jack: but they are quite expensive.
[1457.01] Frank: I don't trust it.
[1458.97] Stephen: You could just get candy in print caution silica gel on the outside
[1462.49] Stephen: and be done with it.
[1463.89] Stephen: That's what I've done, isn't it?
[1466.77] Jack: Sorry, Frank.
[1468.97] Stephen: Yeah, I was just I was just going to say it's nothing.
[1472.77] Stephen: Can can we can you even buy like a drone that's made by people outside
[1476.93] Stephen: of China without sponsoring?
[1480.13] Stephen: Defense industries like it's kind of all converges on that, doesn't it?
[1485.77] Jack: Oh, it's right. Right.
[1487.17] Jack: And that didn't turn out too good.
[1488.93] Stephen: Well, yeah, I mean, they just cut the chase, didn't they?
[1490.93] Stephen: They're like, well, let's get in on the game.
[1493.53] Stephen: Let's get like the old Skyliner and strap a bomb to it.
[1497.57] Stephen: No one's buying them quick.
[1499.65] Tony: Quite like the boycott in chat.
[1503.17] Tony: Are we all getting drunk on the 500th episode?
[1506.69] Tony: Can do you?
[1508.09] Tony: I'd love to see you pissed.
[1509.85] Tony: I think we should get maybe a part of a whole and do a 500th episode.
[1513.81] Tony: And sing out the song of some sort.
[1516.85] Tony: Yeah, we'll make a song up by next.
[1520.77] Jack: The only song was the Celine Dion
[1524.41] Jack: like Titanic song by Held Andy, I say.
[1529.05] Jack: There's no way we'd ever get the right.
[1531.37] Tony: I think there's pictures of me on your shoulders, naturally.
[1535.49] Stephen: Well, maybe you should drive up to where Andy Arcy is.
[1538.57] Stephen: Surprise him.
[1539.61] Stephen: Take your laptop and camera with you and do it from like Andy
[1543.41] Stephen: Arcy's studio with Andy on your lap.
[1550.41] Tony: I think they'd be.
[1551.73] Jack: I've moved house.
[1554.25] Jack: Have you really, Andy?
[1556.57] Stephen: That's just what someone would say if they didn't want Jack to appear.
[1563.61] Jack: I know.
[1565.53] Jack: Well, you better tell me where you actually live
[1567.41] Jack: because you don't want me interacting with your parents.
[1570.93] Jack: That's even worse.
[1572.89] Frank: On Sunday.
[1574.41] Frank: And up.
[1575.81] Frank: We rebroadcast the dog.
[1578.73] Frank: Ben.
[1580.09] Tony: We did. The dog died, in fact.
[1583.05] Tony: And the bin is no more as a net.
[1585.81] Tony: Correct.
[1588.29] Frank: In the retrospective on Sunday with.
[1590.81] Frank: Oh, yeah.
[1593.69] Frank: Well, I guess I've had to play.
[1595.33] Stephen: So Randy got out with a quad recently, which was nice to see.
[1601.12] Stephen: I only seen him flying his field and thrashed a quad around.
[1605.2] Stephen: It's nice to see that.
[1607.88] Tony: I saw him flying his.
[1609.68] Frank: Type, was it type of thing, as in the jet?
[1613.36] Tony: Yeah. Oh, you're a fighter.
[1615.56] Stephen: Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
[1617.32] Tony: I'm going to get to know you with type of thing about it.
[1619.92] Stephen: It was for the for the radio master.
[1622.36] Stephen: That was it. Yeah.
[1624.16] Frank: Good video. Enjoyed it. Yeah.
[1627.56] Frank: This episode was recorded in front of a live online audience downloaded
[1631.28] Frank: and edited to make sense when it played audio only sensors
[1634.84] Frank: to please the iTunes people hosted on the Internet
[1637.12] Frank: forwarded through to your podcast provider.
[1638.92] Frank: Downloaded playing on your device and is now playing in your ears.
[1642.68] Frank: All thanks to our patrons.
[1644.88] Frank: Consider joining them and you'll also get other online benefits.
[1648.24] Frank: Find out more at Patreon dot com.
[1650.52] Frank: Four slash. Let's drone out.
[1653.88] Tony: Does anyone find this weekend?
[1655.52] Tony: Anyone going out at all?
[1658.04] Tony: I can find a quiet place. Yeah.
[1660.04] Stephen: I've been looking to take the little three rig out and throw it around.
[1665.44] Tony: I'm selling I'm selling broken paving slabs out on the street.
[1671.4] Stephen: I'm going to spend your time.
[1673.44] Tony: Are you really like the old boy in the riots?
[1679.84] Stephen: Yeah, that was colorful up here.
[1682.48] Stephen: Oh, yeah. My little place in East London.
[1685.48] Stephen: I've got a little bit spicy last night.
[1689.04] Tony: Nice. Yeah.
[1691.04] Stephen: All very good nature sort of spicy, which is the best.
[1694.04] Stephen: It's nice to see people turn up and say,
[1696.24] Stephen: oh, actually, we don't want any sort of racists and nastiness.
[1699.56] Stephen: And how about you just get in the sea and let everyone here live together in happiness?
[1704.96] Frank: Yeah, it was it was quite fun.
[1707.36] Frank: I was a little bit concerned
[1709.72] Frank: like seeing all the posts beforehand about like, oh,
[1713.64] Frank: it's going to be all these right wing riots.
[1716.32] Frank: It's like, OK, what's going to what's going to happen?
[1720.0] Frank: How bad is this going to be?
[1721.08] Frank: And then just to see like seven racists surrounded by
[1725.24] Frank: the entire blocks worth of people with
[1729.76] Frank: say, notifications and posters.
[1731.72] Stephen: But yeah, it was much the same.
[1733.52] Stephen: Like the EDL tried to march up past the end of my road a couple of years ago.
[1738.0] Stephen: And it was like, you know, 50 people marching
[1741.64] Stephen: or like fat, sweaty white guys with shaved heads
[1747.64] Stephen: and the women looking much the same.
[1750.4] Stephen: Just an advertisement for inbreeding
[1753.28] Stephen: outnumbered greatly by a number of people just waving banners,
[1757.44] Stephen: telling them how wrong they were.
[1759.24] Stephen: And everyone can absolutely be happy and live together.
[1762.56] Jack: Hmm. It does make you wonder, isn't it?
[1765.16] Jack: It's like you do realize that, you know, we had to deal with Hitler.
[1770.32] Jack: You know, we we were the main driving force
[1774.24] Jack: that told him to go himself.
[1776.84] Jack: And it's just like, why do you think we'd be down with that?
[1779.48] Jack: I just I give up.
[1781.4] Jack: They've all got like swastikas tattooed on them and stuff.
[1784.04] Jack: And it's like, no one likes you.
[1786.48] Jack: No, no one wants to be in your club.
[1790.96] Stephen: Thank you very much. I know.
[1793.96] Frank: Clive FPV in the chat is flying this weekend.
[1797.84] Frank: So someone is.
[1800.32] Tony: Well done.
[1801.84] Frank: He is going to get his practice in for the BDRA champs
[1805.76] Frank: in September.
[1807.24] Frank: Yeah, the the the sort of listing of who is going to be invited along
[1813.68] Frank: for that is being worked out at the moment. Right.
[1816.04] Frank: I think I think that's still being finalized at the moment.
[1819.24] Frank: I think the Scottish lads have still got their selection to make.
[1823.36] Frank: Oh, they've got the final race up in Scotland
[1826.6] Frank: for the selection for the BDRA championships.
[1829.76] Stephen: And then we should get some of the Scottish people and catch up with them
[1833.88] Stephen: again, because I think they were, you know, they're seeing a bit of a renaissance
[1838.52] Stephen: when we last spoke probably a year or so back and they were just starting
[1841.72] Stephen: to, you know, go up in the world and be interesting to catch up, see how they do.
[1847.48] Stephen: Yeah. Oh, on a different note,
[1851.52] Stephen: I've noticed that I am thirty two is getting pretty healthy.
[1855.44] Stephen: They're pushing out a ton of updates.
[1856.96] Stephen: I'm seeing a lot of people testing new overseas with them.
[1860.16] Stephen: So it seems that we dodged a bullet with that whole bill.
[1864.24] Stephen: Bill only thirty two stuff for ESEs.
[1867.12] Stephen: Good. Got a solid replacement.
[1869.32] Stephen: That's good to see.
[1870.52] Frank: Hmm. Yes. The Clive in the chat is saying Team GB for China has been selected.
[1877.68] Frank: I'm I'm still confused about this.
[1879.8] Frank: I thought the whole point of the championships was to pick the team.
[1885.0] Frank: But clearly not if the team was already selected to test.
[1890.44] Stephen: Well, isn't that how the Olympics work, that you say you're going to pick the team,
[1894.04] Stephen: but you already know who you're going to pick and you just do that for the public?
[1897.12] Stephen: It's much like the medal ceremonies, right?
[1899.92] Stephen: Let's have the Olympics and like, you know, everyone do that.
[1903.76] Stephen: But we know, you know, there are a lot of money's changed hands behind the scenes
[1907.16] Stephen: already, so we know kind of who we're going to give the medals to.
[1911.68] Tony: Really, Stephen, it's not like that.
[1914.72] Stephen: Actually, exemplified by UEFA.
[1917.28] Stephen: UEFA made this very popular, excellent model.
[1922.6] Stephen: Great business model that the fans get to talk on TV.
[1926.68] Stephen: And, you know, the gamblers off with all the money in the Middle East get to,
[1931.52] Stephen: you know, win the bets. It's all good.
[1934.56] Frank: Legal notice. Any views expressed by anyone on the show are personal
[1939.2] Frank: and may not reflect the view of others.
[1942.28] Frank: In special committee.
[1943.68] Frank: Sorry about Stephen.
[1944.96] Frank: LDO, please sue Stephen instead.
[1947.72] Stephen: Yeah, I was quite annoyed.
[1950.0] Stephen: I missed Gojira.
[1951.4] Stephen: I was watching the Olympic ceremony and I tuned in
[1954.88] Stephen: just after Gojira had been on quite fun.
[1958.56] Tony: No one knows what that means.
[1960.52] Stephen: French heavy metal band.
[1961.96] Stephen: And they were in the Olympic ceremony outside of a castle doing silly stuff.
[1968.0] Tony: No, being silly.
[1972.41] Tony: No, straight over me.
[1973.69] Tony: I don't know what he's talking about.
[1974.93] Tony: Thought it might be an athlete.
[1977.21] Frank: I was just seeing where Clive is in the rankings.
[1982.41] Frank: Clive is at number 48.
[1984.29] Frank: I looked at it.
[1985.17] Frank: Bell. Oh, there's like hundreds.
[1991.13] Frank: That's not bad, then.
[1992.77] Frank: Yeah, but it's I thought you were going to say out of 50 or something.
[1998.13] Frank: So it's 60 get invited along to the British Championship.
[2004.69] Frank: So Clive is qualified for the well done, Clive.
[2008.33] Tony: I know he's got faster and faster and he's already put the practice in.
[2013.21] Tony: So fair play.
[2016.45] Tony: So is there really hundreds of people still drone racing?
[2019.85] Frank: I don't know.
[2020.53] Frank: I've just only got the first page open.
[2024.09] Jack: No.
[2025.49] Jack: No, I laugh if you scroll to the very bottom, me and Tony are there still there.
[2030.53] Frank: There's still zero points.
[2034.37] Stephen: The contest is definitely going on.
[2036.01] Stephen: And it feels like with HD zero and everything becoming more and more common.
[2041.17] Stephen: So video quality that you can actually look at as a spectator
[2045.13] Stephen: is going to be getting better and better.
[2046.53] Stephen: But in terms of like public awareness,
[2051.01] Stephen: I think it's gone down by quite a long way.
[2054.81] Stephen: Which is a bit sad, really.
[2057.25] Frank: Yeah, if you think about sort of the
[2060.49] Frank: dominance that the TV racing had like 10 years ago,
[2065.05] Frank: we're not even like five, six years ago.
[2070.05] Frank: But it was on TV.
[2072.73] Frank: It was being covered in national newspapers.
[2075.73] Frank: But because it was I think it was because it knows this.
[2079.05] Frank: Yeah, exactly.
[2079.81] Frank: The scene is a rising thing.
[2081.61] Stephen: And that's all the convergence of different technologies and all that.
[2086.41] Frank: Yeah, exactly.
[2088.25] Frank: And especially now, I feel like if FPV is in the news, it is for different reasons.
[2093.77] Frank: Yeah, that's right.
[2096.17] Stephen: Yeah, but there seems to be room for sports
[2100.69] Stephen: involving pretty much anything like the market for sports is gigantic.
[2105.33] Stephen: And so it's a little bit perplexing that given that it's much more viewable now
[2109.05] Stephen: than it was back in, you know, 2015, when you had pretty bad VTX is producing
[2115.33] Stephen: pretty hard to view video and not really a way to mux that together all on one screen.
[2120.69] Stephen: And now you can solve those problems.
[2122.57] Stephen: But the viewership, for whatever reason, isn't being pulled into that.
[2128.09] Stephen: There must be some sort of I don't know whether it's just shove it all on Instagram
[2132.53] Stephen: and shout about it or whether it's something more fundamental.
[2136.49] Frank: If I was being very cynical,
[2140.13] Frank: I would say that it was viewable back then because people weren't ridiculously high
[2146.21] Frank: skilled. And now the skill level has got to the point where it's just incomprehensible
[2151.81] Frank: to a non-expert.
[2153.77] Stephen: Yeah, you can't even say that stuff like the pro league, street league, giant fat drones
[2159.17] Stephen: that can barely pull out of a dive.
[2160.69] Stephen: And it's much more about like kind of energy management.
[2164.53] Stephen: Yeah, energy management and classical almost car racing techniques where you're trying
[2169.93] Stephen: to get the cleanest line and preserve speed through corners and stuff.
[2174.89] Jack: I think I think there's an element of
[2178.93] Jack: anyone who had a slight interest, their first
[2183.65] Jack: doorstep they come across is DJI.
[2187.05] Jack: And that means that there's a big initial upfront cost of buying the drone.
[2193.09] Jack: And when you do get it, then it tells you where you can and can't fly.
[2200.01] Jack: So you can't actually do anything cool with it.
[2203.77] Jack: And then your your your initial experience is, oh, my God, it's like pushing a
[2210.13] Jack: camera balloon around in the sky.
[2213.53] Frank: But I think Stephen's point is rather not being like going out and buying it and doing
[2220.09] Frank: it, but why are people happy to watch dressage on TV and not quad racing?
[2228.45] Stephen: There's plenty of people that don't never put football, but watch football for like,
[2234.01] Stephen: you know, 100 plus hours every year, you know.
[2238.41] Jack: Yeah, but that's got some tribalism behind it.
[2241.01] Jack: But I mean, that's not sustaining it.
[2243.49] Stephen: But how did it start it?
[2245.93] Stephen: I mean, all sport has tribalism and that just that's just an indication it's reached
[2250.93] Stephen: critical mass, really, isn't it?
[2256.05] Tony: I think Andy also used comment if anyone can put it up, it's right.
[2262.89] Frank: So Andy's saying the problem is people get bored with it and move on every time I post
[2268.21] Frank: a video, I lose 50 subs as people no longer agree.
[2273.37] Jack: But in your video, it's just a reminder of still subbed to Andy.
[2279.33] Tony: Yeah, it's just more quad videos, Andy.
[2285.21] Tony: It was fun that long ago because it was all new and amazing.
[2290.81] Tony: Now it's just meh.
[2294.37] Tony: You know, there's not much fun about it anymore, maybe a bit.
[2300.37] Tony: I mean, I saw I watched Bad Boys 4, The Ride or Die, and I had some FPV stuff in it, but
[2307.09] Tony: I didn't rate it very much.
[2309.17] Stephen: Pretty bad.
[2309.69] Stephen: I thought you were going to say it's sad, like Bad Boys movies.
[2313.33] Stephen: Oh, it used to be cool.
[2314.57] Stephen: And now it's just like another Bad Boys movie.
[2317.41] Tony: They're all good still.
[2318.45] Tony: But I was just saying there was the FPV shots in there and I was like, God, who's
[2323.21] Tony: flying this? It's not very good.
[2326.21] Stephen: One bit was good, but.
[2328.21] Stephen: There's definitely some rough, rough shots out there now.
[2331.33] Stephen: See a lot of people just sometimes they're done really well.
[2334.33] Tony: But I remember seeing it for FPV shot in the first film like a couple of years ago.
[2339.01] Tony: That's FPV.
[2339.85] Tony: I can see it now.
[2341.05] Tony: You just constantly see it.
[2342.33] Tony: So like when you are watching TV, terrestrial TV and then drones come out and
[2347.09] Tony: there's drone shots every week.
[2350.29] Jack: You haven't got a TV knife and stony.
[2352.69] Jack: You don't watch TV.
[2353.77] Stephen: Well, or if I'm around my parents.
[2356.73] Stephen: I saw those clips from that Michael Bay film ambulance, the drone shots, and they
[2361.17] Stephen: made me really excited to watch the movie.
[2363.01] Stephen: And then I realized after watching some of the movie, they were probably the best
[2368.13] Stephen: shots in the entire movie.
[2369.89] Stephen: The rest of it was just awful.
[2372.09] Tony: As it just made round.
[2373.57] Stephen: So Michael Bay being Michael Bay, you know, lots of wobbly camera cuts every two
[2379.97] Stephen: seconds dialogue that reads like someone wrote it.
[2383.85] Stephen: Well, they were busy doing something else.
[2387.05] Stephen: Just awful.
[2389.53] Tony: Come on, Michael Day.
[2390.77] Frank: So what you're saying is an ambulance FPV supercut would be really well on YouTube.
[2399.17] Frank: Just see FPV shots.
[2400.89] Stephen: You have like a 45 second supercut and be like, there's an ambulance.
[2405.09] Stephen: It didn't go well for them.
[2406.53] Stephen: Swoop, die, flip.
[2410.45] Stephen: Yeah, that's pretty much it.
[2411.77] Frank: Unfortunately, Caroline Tyler in the chat says six underground.
[2416.25] Frank: Has some great FPV shots and a fun film too.
[2420.65] Frank: What's six underground about?
[2422.53] Stephen: You're making me think of the sneaker pimps.
[2424.61] Stephen: Take myself.
[2426.65] Stephen: Ryan Reynolds as a Netflix movie.
[2430.85] Stephen: Oh, it's Michael Bay again.
[2434.81] Tony: I wonder who the pilot is.
[2436.17] Tony: Is this the same pilot?
[2437.33] Tony: Is it Fanny and Fannover?
[2439.89] Stephen: It looks like it came out in 2019.
[2442.13] Stephen: So it's out there.
[2444.37] Stephen: I've seen this.
[2445.97] Stephen: Looks like there's some awesome car chases and FPV tends to be at its best when it's
[2449.73] Stephen: filming car chases because you can get those shots that just don't exist otherwise.
[2455.53] Frank: Richard Warwick in the chat says he was in TJD models the other week and the guy working
[2460.29] Frank: there basically said that the popularity of RC cars was bringing him most of the money.
[2465.81] Frank: I'm not surprised.
[2466.93] Stephen: Well, because you break them all the time, don't you?
[2468.77] Stephen: And that's bloody expensive.
[2471.05] Tony: Well, that's just always good though.
[2473.05] Tony: I have all Tamiya have been, I mean, I was in school looking at Tamiya stuff, flicking
[2479.65] Tony: through the models, the lunchbox, grasshopper, the frog.
[2483.57] Tony: Good boy.
[2484.21] Tony: I had one and I have got a lunchbox and a frog now, yes, because I'm older and I can
[2490.41] Tony: afford it.
[2492.21] Tony: I did have a mud blaster.
[2494.01] Tony: My dad had a really good Christmas one year and I got a mud blaster, which I'd love to
[2498.13] Tony: get again.
[2499.53] Tony: But did you see the Olympics?
[2501.73] Tony: They're saying someone's job is to drive the RC car with the javelin in it.
[2508.09] Tony: How cool is that?
[2509.61] Tony: That would be a very good job.
[2511.85] Tony: That's a pretty good job, isn't it?
[2514.09] Frank: Put the javelin in, take it back.
[2517.41] Tony: How good?
[2518.97] Frank: I had a bar hard chimp.
[2523.77] Tony: Bar hard chimp?
[2525.57] Frank: Yeah.
[2526.21] Tony: Was it Tamiya?
[2526.97] Tony: I don't reckon I did.
[2528.21] Stephen: Did it get better?
[2529.21] Stephen: Did you need ointment?
[2532.05] Stephen: Sometimes you get bar hard chimp from running.
[2537.85] Stephen: Clear up.
[2539.29] Frank: Eventually.
[2541.97] Frank: I was just constantly stripping because it had a load of metal screws into just plastic
[2548.45] Frank: threads and I just constantly stripped them and then you need to buy that bit.
[2555.13] Frank: They're only a few quid at a time, but you have to buy them in pairs and you only need the one on
[2560.57] Frank: the right hand of one.
[2561.69] Frank: You don't need the left hand of one.
[2562.81] Frank: You're paying out, mate.
[2564.33] Frank: Yeah, they get you, don't they?
[2567.45] Tony: But how cool was it?
[2568.77] Tony: Like they were in the 80s and they're still pretty cool models.
[2573.53] Stephen: I've got an FPV car and I stripped all the parts, like the gearbox is stripped and at the same
[2580.65] Stephen: time I tried to gun it some more and stripped the diffs and I can't get the
[2585.01] Stephen: replacements for parts now.
[2586.89] Frank: Yeah, you don't get on well with mechanical components, do you?
[2590.49] Frank: I don't really enjoy mechanical components.
[2592.49] Frank: Only the fewest moving parts possible.
[2594.49] Frank: I mean, having a gearbox is not the way you're doing it.
[2597.61] Stephen: Soldering, like doing some work on ethernet switches and stuff is more my speed, really.
[2608.57] Frank: But yeah, Kars was my first FPV experience.
[2615.41] Frank: He was having a tiny little indoor car and strapping a camera to it and FPVing that to my
[2621.17] Frank: parents' big CLT screen at the time.
[2623.65] Frank: I do bump an awful lot, though, that's a trouble.
[2625.89] Tony: You bump the pukey, pukey, pukey in the back of the car.
[2630.17] Stephen: Yeah, I tried FPVing stuff and as tempting as it is to go really fast, I think unless you've got
[2634.69] Stephen: like a sixth or an eighth scale, it's almost an FPV feed, it's difficult to use.
[2642.97] Stephen: But it's cool.
[2643.89] Stephen: You just have to keep slowing down to see what the hell you're actually doing.
[2647.49] Stephen: You're like, oh, this is so exhilarating.
[2649.17] Stephen: Wait, I think I need to turn.
[2650.41] Stephen: Where the hell am I?
[2651.33] Stephen: Slow down.
[2652.29] Frank: Well, I wonder if that would be improved now with like modern TV.
[2656.93] Stephen: I mean, I don't know when you could do like EIS on board, have something like an O3 that can
[2662.05] Stephen: do electronic image stabilization on board.
[2665.25] Stephen: Maybe that would make car FPV a bit better.
[2669.01] Stephen: Yeah, you need a fan, I guess.
[2670.77] Frank: Might have a go at some point.
[2672.89] Frank: I've got a kit to build a crawler somewhere that would be reasonably non-
[2680.45] Stephen: Oh, O-Sync's online comparing, you know, what FPV solution are you using?
[2685.49] Stephen: And analog is now firmly south of 50% from what I can see.
[2690.45] Frank: Yeah, I saw that on, yeah, was that painless?
[2693.81] Stephen: Yeah, painless and I think UAV Futures had one as well.
[2697.65] Stephen: Yeah.
[2697.97] Frank: Yeah, analog is losing ground, certainly.
[2706.93] Jack: There we go.
[2707.41] Jack: I mean, it's soon not going to be able to get the chips for it, are they?
[2713.73] Jack: Because they must be going through a lot.
[2717.65] Stephen: Seven, whatever it is, that the overlay chip is, yeah, they're already using clones because
[2723.33] Stephen: they stopped making the original one.
[2725.73] Stephen: There's still some talk about like, wouldn't it be really nice if camera manufacturers did like
[2730.85] Stephen: programmable overlays for analog cameras and camera manufacturers are like, no one wants that.
[2737.17] Stephen: And so you're basically in this kind of standoff and the chip supply for those overlay chips will
[2743.97] Stephen: run out and you're not going to be able to get it.
[2748.05] Stephen: There's, you know, Hydra, he's got a system where you can do an overlay and you can drive
[2754.61] Stephen: it about an input arbitrary data, but no one wants to move first because they've got to do
[2760.53] Stephen: all the R&D costs and then everyone just copies it.
[2763.01] Stephen: So it really needs some Chinese camera manufacturer to just have like a UART alongside their camera
[2769.97] Stephen: connection for an analog camera.
[2772.13] Stephen: And that would be awesome.
[2773.73] Stephen: Skyzone out of business.
[2775.89] Stephen: Wow.
[2777.49] Stephen: Wow.
[2778.53] Stephen: Breaking news.
[2781.09] Stephen: They were the best.
[2782.77] Jack: Well, it surprises me.
[2784.61] Stephen: They still have a website and years of history, hundreds of distributors, it says on the website.
[2791.81] Stephen: And the RC fake newsing it.
[2793.97] Stephen: Yeah, they released an update not too long ago for the Skyzone Skyo 4x as well.
[2801.09] Frank: I mean, the website does show everything is sold out.
[2806.93] Jack: Fair enough.
[2808.69] Frank: Nothing is in stock.
[2810.45] Jack: Dale Spin says I fly analog every day.
[2813.57] Jack: Some jogging twat told me I can't fly here in my own garden.
[2820.61] Jack: Sounds about right.
[2822.21] Stephen: Did you mention that they were a jogging twat?
[2827.73] Stephen: That's a crucial information point.
[2829.25] Stephen: They may have been missing in the calculation.
[2831.89] Jack: Stop looking into my garden.
[2833.49] Jack: It's invaded my privacy.
[2835.65] Frank: His garden does literally back onto Gatwick airport, but nevermind.
[2840.61] Jack: I do.
[2842.53] Tony: I think he's in the Tenerife, isn't he?
[2849.25] Stephen: People just, it's weird how people can have double standards where they complain that you're
[2854.21] Stephen: flying this little drone and you're whizzing around, not looking at them, but they think
[2858.85] Stephen: their privacy is being invaded.
[2860.53] Stephen: Meanwhile, they're like filming themselves and uploading all their pictures to services
[2866.05] Stephen: who are literally trying to monetize their information, scan where they are,
[2869.81] Stephen: and figure out how to shuffle advertising in Netflix.
[2874.29] Stephen: Interesting dual standard.
[2876.21] Jack: Don't forget all the malware in the Google Play store.
[2881.65] Jack: How do they let that in, Jack?
[2887.57] Jack: Downloading the Hindu website.
[2889.81] Stephen: There's a right wing draft of the movie Twisters, a remake of Twister that everyone was asking for.
[2895.73] Stephen: Remember that movie Twister?
[2897.65] Stephen: It came out like when Jurassic Park came out.
[2899.97] Stephen: It was about people had to drive around and throw stuff into tornadoes because
[2904.77] Stephen: no one was throwing anything into tornadoes and someone had to do it.
[2909.01] Stephen: They made another movie about people who have to throw things into tornadoes
[2912.37] Stephen: because no one else is throwing things into tornadoes.
[2916.53] Tony: Sounds brilliant.
[2920.13] Stephen: I don't know how you get the budget for these movies.
[2922.37] Stephen: That's right.
[2922.77] Stephen: Hollywood has given a bucket to pass.
[2924.53] Tony: There's a lot of cannons that exist.
[2928.85] Jack: You could fire things into tornadoes.
[2930.77] Stephen: No, you have to drive around on a pickup truck and get really close to it.
[2933.97] Stephen: You can't just fly a drone into it from five miles away.
[2936.77] Stephen: You have to get really, really close to it.
[2938.53] Tony: I've got proper cars now.
[2940.85] Tony: Fire things into the ground and suck down.
[2946.77] Stephen: If there's one thing that drones are really good at,
[2948.77] Stephen: it's exposing massive plot holes in movies.
[2951.49] Stephen: Whenever the drone features in a movie, it'd be like,
[2953.73] Stephen: well, why is that done that way?
[2956.77] Stephen: Why are they doing it this way?
[2960.53] Stephen: It's much like people, I guess, who work in computer security
[2963.73] Stephen: whenever they see someone who goes,
[2965.01] Stephen: I'll hack in.
[2966.77] Stephen: They're just like, I'm no longer going to consider what's happening on screen
[2971.73] Stephen: or I will punch something.
[2974.05] Jack: It's been zero days since I had to recompile the kernel.
[2979.09] Stephen: Yeah, I'm just going to crack AES-256.
[2982.85] Stephen: It's going to take 30 seconds.
[2985.25] Tony: No, it's just a couple of...
[2988.21] Tony: Done. We're in.
[2989.57] Stephen: Password was password.
[2993.33] Tony: It's probably the best password ever because no one will try password.
[2996.45] Stephen: We've cracked their system.
[2997.65] Stephen: A lazy Tory minister left it on a train.
[3000.29] Frank: That's probably closer to the truth, right?
[3003.09] Frank: Yes.
[3005.01] Frank: Yeah, right.
[3005.65] Stephen: I said, my name was Mandy.
[3008.45] Stephen: Now we have all those secrets.
[3010.69] Frank: They sent it to me in response for the nudes that I sent them.
[3017.25] Tony: We got some.
[3021.33] Frank: Yeah.
[3024.29] Frank: Some vaguely drone-related news.
[3029.25] Frank: The Isle of Wight drone delivery service
[3031.97] Frank: that was going to be tested...
[3033.33] Frank: Oh my god, really?
[3035.57] Frank: ...has been delayed till next week due to locals complaining about
[3039.73] Frank: taking up space in their local car park.
[3043.49] Tony: There's probably better places to land, isn't there?
[3046.21] Tony: There's probably better places to go than the Isle of Wight.
[3052.21] Stephen: I'm sure it will happen at some point.
[3054.69] Stephen: There's some nice fossils on the beach.
[3057.09] Tony: There's probably fossils complaining.
[3059.57] Tony: Yeah.
[3061.03] Frank: Well, they have a fair point, but they've basically...
[3065.11] Frank: They published the plan about three weeks before they actually were going to do it,
[3070.87] Frank: which in council terms isn't a long time between saying,
[3074.23] Frank: oh, we're going to close your car park for six months and closing the car park.
[3077.75] Jack: Isn't there only like 10 people on that island?
[3080.63] Jack: How big of a car park do they need?
[3083.03] Jack: They're on the Isle of Wight.
[3084.23] Jack: Where are they driving to?
[3086.31] Stephen: Yeah.
[3087.19] Stephen: It's about three miles long, isn't it?
[3089.91] Stephen: No, that's the Isle of Man, isn't it?
[3092.07] Tony: Yeah, it's 80 miles circumference.
[3095.75] Stephen: 80?
[3096.39] Tony: Because I was going to ride it this year.
[3099.27] Stephen: That's the one off the south coast, right?
[3101.91] Stephen: Yeah.
[3102.31] Stephen: Yes.
[3103.43] Stephen: Okay.
[3104.63] Frank: It's like 20 miles west of east, right?
[3110.63] Tony: It's close roads and grannies, and Bruce moans about them every day.
[3117.03] Stephen: Shouldn't they just land it in a field instead of a car park as well?
[3120.15] Tony: Well, that's exactly all I was thinking.
[3121.91] Tony: Why can't they just land it in the bloody field?
[3125.03] Frank: Well, so their system is they've got these shipping containers
[3129.27] Frank: that's got a roof that the drone lands on, and then it looks like it's...
[3134.15] Stephen: And these shipping containers can only be placed in car parks.
[3137.51] Frank: Well, I figure it's easier to put it in a car park and take it away from a car park.
[3142.87] Tony: Lava Giles Field, which is bloody, always wet because we've had so much rain.
[3147.51] Stephen: Exactly.
[3147.99] Tony: I don't know.
[3148.39] Stephen: I've seen a lot of people just dump shipping containers anywhere.
[3150.95] Stephen: They're used as storage lockers, famously, because of their ability to be dumped almost anywhere.
[3155.51] Frank: But they're a challenge to recover.
[3157.67] Tony: That's the problem.
[3159.03] Tony: Most of them are in car parks, though, I've seen, to be fair.
[3162.39] Tony: Yeah, or on old stuff.
[3163.83] Tony: Unless they're turned into houses.
[3165.91] Frank: Old concrete lamps of some kind, yeah.
[3169.11] Frank: Well, you just need a bit of gravel down.
[3171.03] Jack: Don't need.
[3173.51] Jack: And you can deliver stuff easier to a car park.
[3177.43] Frank: But either way, it's not a problem.
[3179.75] Frank: Anyway, yeah, not a problem.
[3181.83] Jack: Not living on an island.
[3182.95] Tony: Oh, well, you don't fly it to the hospital.
[3185.03] Tony: If it's blood, just literally fly to the hospital and land on the bloody roof.
[3189.19] Jack: I mean, all they would have to do is watch James May's thing of people trying to fly
[3196.55] Jack: the UK coast to the Isle of Wight.
[3200.31] Jack: And they were like, no, you can't do it.
[3204.55] Stephen: Meanwhile, someone the hobbyist just flies over his head and does it anyway.
[3211.59] Frank: I was going to say, I feel like we could just go down there and fly that route this weekend.
[3219.11] Tony: Oh, I've got it.
[3220.15] Tony: We should go there.
[3221.51] Tony: Suck some blood out of our mate, Jack.
[3224.87] Stephen: And the RC makes the point that Jetson with their flying cars are doing cool stuff.
[3230.87] Stephen: Then, yeah, they are flying car looks eerily reminiscent of that.
[3237.67] Stephen: The racing drone, the what's her face, the
[3242.31] Stephen: male.
[3243.51] Stephen: Yeah.
[3243.75] Stephen: Yeah.
[3243.99] Stephen: The life hacks woman does.
[3245.99] Stephen: Yeah.
[3248.23] Stephen: Last thing I heard, she was selling a book about how to be an influencer.
[3251.51] Tony: I'm just talking with scars on that go.
[3254.39] Stephen: Yeah.
[3255.03] Stephen: Yeah.
[3255.75] Stephen: She's she's charting her own course.
[3258.55] Stephen: Good luck to her.
[3259.83] Stephen: Anyway, they've got a flying car.
[3261.51] Stephen: It doesn't look very friendly.
[3263.03] Stephen: It looks to flying cars, what kind of a Caterham seven looks to a family saloon,
[3270.15] Stephen: as in it's a bathtub with plenty of power.
[3273.59] Stephen: And it'll definitely go.
[3276.23] Stephen: But it looks doesn't look terribly user friendly on the inside.
[3280.79] Stephen: Not airbags at all.
[3285.19] Stephen: You need more than airbags, mate.
[3287.19] Stephen: I don't think it's got a canopy.
[3288.95] Stephen: It's just got a couple of steel bars.
[3292.23] Tony: Worldcave zone.
[3294.07] UNKNOWN: Yes.
[3294.23] Stephen: Well, a roll.
[3296.15] Tony: A very loose definition of the role.
[3298.39] Stephen: Because there's only four to ask that don't go side to side.
[3302.07] Tony: We see WRC cars flying at 170 mile an hour into trees and guys just getting out.
[3307.83] Stephen: Well, yeah, they've got a full roll cage, though.
[3311.19] Stephen: This is some artist's interpretation of a roll cage.
[3314.31] Stephen: That's why I'm saying.
[3316.31] Stephen: If you stuck your arm out, I'm pretty sure it's a goner if this thing goes over.
[3324.77] Stephen: I mean, shifting, though, it looks good.
[3327.65] Stephen: So they've got what, 20 minute flight time.
[3330.45] Tony: Doesn't seem to jet pack things.
[3333.57] Tony: That looks cool.
[3335.01] Stephen: Here we are.
[3335.73] Stephen: Crews speed of 60 kilometers an hour and they reckon they did 17.7 kilometers or old money, 11 miles.
[3346.45] Stephen: A 37 mile an hour as the crow flies gets you across most large cities, doesn't it?
[3354.45] Stephen: As long as you don't have to hover for 10 minutes at the other end before you can land, mind.
[3359.97] Tony: Roll cage is spinning.
[3361.57] Tony: Well, I missed it.
