[201.57] ChrisG: There'll be a main flight line there on the runway at Pop, as we've done for the last

[208.81] ChrisG: And there'll be all kinds of things flying, big warbirds, jets, you name it.
[215.41] ChrisG: It's a growing model show, shall we say, in the south, partly to replace the old
[225.37] ChrisG: Black Bush model show.
[226.53] ChrisG: I don't know if anyone ever went to that a few years ago.
[231.25] ChrisG: But there's lots of different kinds of models there, helicopters, you name it.
[236.93] ChrisG: There's lots of ground-based stuff as well.
[238.65] ChrisG: We're going to have the Basingstoke RC Drift Club there, right next to us inside the tent,
[244.93] ChrisG: right next to the whooping as well this year.
[247.85] ChrisG: Last year we had some remote-controlled tanks as well, they were very realistic, like IC-powered

[255.85] ChrisG: We had the Basingstoke Model Boat Club last year, we brought along a 600-litre pool and

[265.37] ChrisG: Not sure if they're coming again this year, they might be.

[271.29] ChrisG: There's usually quite a few vendors there as well, and drinks and whatnot.

[465.55] Curry: And they say it's ready to go for, like, your photogrammetry stuff and your survey stuff.

[549.3] Curry: So they've developed this gimbal that's specifically for DJI or walk style.
[555.7] Curry: And so I'm like, okay, great.
[558.02] Curry: So I'm going to need to run the MSP OSD.
[562.5] Curry: And I can see by looking at the R2Pilot stuff that there's specific parameters you need to set.
[570.1] Curry: And it works.
[570.9] Curry: And they're like, oh, no, it's not running R2Pilot.
[573.3] Curry: Although, what is it running then?
[574.58] Curry: And this is what I'm waiting to find out.

[581.94] Stephen: Yeah, it does seem like the new hotness.
[586.34] Stephen: But why there isn't a code base that what normally happens when something like this
[591.3] Stephen: comes out is someone creates one that just works trademark and everyone else copies that.
[597.7] Stephen: But it sounds like everyone's just throwing crap against the wall to see what sticks.
[602.42] Stephen: And no one's actually got like a sensible blueprint for a Beetle that everyone else can copy.
[607.7] Stephen: They're all just winging it.
[609.38] Stephen: And they've got like one build of whatever code base that
[612.42] Stephen: happens to manage to test over in their lab.

[616.58] Curry: All I can guess is previously, because they were sending these to like four or five grand,
[621.54] Curry: they were giving this proprietary controller with a screen in it.
[625.46] Curry: And they have hacked things about to get it working somehow with this thing.

[630.74] Curry: And if I fly around, you can see stuff.
[632.74] Curry: They're like, oh, yeah, that works.
[634.02] Curry: Give it to the hobbyists.
[634.98] Curry: And we're like, don't work.

[639.22] Stephen: So it'll work if you use exactly their software versions.
[641.78] Stephen: But why would you decide if you ever want to upgrade in the next decade?
[645.3] Stephen: Because the project that it's based on knows nothing about it.

[651.06] Curry: It's like, if you watch the video from them, you see them plug it into Qground
[655.14] Curry: controller. It says model type.
[656.9] Curry: And it comes up and says VTOL.
[659.94] Curry: It's what's called like an X tail sitter or something like that.
[663.7] Curry: And it says what version of software it's running.
[666.18] Curry: And this sort of thing, mine comes up, plug it in.
[668.74] Curry: It says, model, don't know.
[672.02] Curry: That's the first giveaway that something might be wrong.
[674.74] Curry: And everything is like, it's like, what what modes are the flights?
[679.38] Curry: It's like mode switch, channel six mode, and they're all blank.

[1126.05] Stephen: And then people like beaked it up when they wanted to do digital.

[1144.69] Stephen: And they were like tiny little, really thin, light, low pitch bi-blades push fit with no screw holes.

[1488.19] Stephen: And they'll also have like a 20 mil on there as well.
[1491.07] Stephen: So you can kind of pick and choose.
[1492.51] Stephen: But they always necessitate a bit of hacking around.
[1496.43] Stephen: Like there's a lot of glue going on there, like rubber cement and some extra rubber bits
[1501.95] Stephen: to stop the battery ejecting.
[1503.79] Stephen: The battery just wants to fly out of these frames.
[1506.27] Stephen: There's nothing to hold the battery.
[1507.55] Stephen: And that's one of the biggest struggles, flying them, you just even come down for
[1511.31] Stephen: soft landing and the batteries off and you need to cable tie down the battery lead or
[1515.71] Stephen: the battery pads will be ripped straight off the board.

[2746.02] Curry: Two grams in Woop thing is about like 10 to 15 seconds coupled with a different battery.

[2966.72] Stephen: I've had a couple and always felt like I can get through gaps that are
[2971.44] Stephen: slightly smaller, but then flight time seems to suffer
[2975.04] Stephen: and everything's just a little bit more of a faff.
[2978.16] Curry: This does feel very tiny.
[2979.76] Curry: I held it up to the previous 75mm I got.
[2982.56] Curry: I thought this is smaller and the motors line up perfectly,
[2987.2] Curry: but these are smaller motors, the frame looks diddlier,
[2989.84] Curry: and it's just lighter overall.
[2991.84] Curry: But it's very maneuverable.
[2992.96] Curry: It flies really nicely.
[2994.64] Curry: You can really push it around the corners in it.
[2997.28] Curry: It's just good, but I didn't find the camera a bit dodgy and the VX not great.
[3001.6] Stephen: I've got some beef with the B2FPV cameras.
[3003.92] Stephen: I've never really gotten on with those.
[3006.8] Jack: I can't even get the plastic cover off of this camera.
[3010.16] Curry: I was getting screen tearing when I was going up because I'd like to take it outside around the
[3015.2] Curry: trees and when I was going up like high, where it was like not trees and just open sky,
[3021.52] Curry: where it met, so you had darkness on the frame and lightness on the frame,
[3026.08] Curry: the screen would tear.
[3028.8] Curry: So that really bad in the goggles because you're like,
[3030.96] Curry: I'm going to do something cool through these trees.
[3032.72] Curry: And then the screen would go, oh, help me.
[3036.24] Curry: I can't see anymore.
[3037.44] Curry: They just face downwards and it comes back.
[3039.92] ChrisG: Is that normally when you've slightly mistuned your channel?
[3045.44] Curry: Well, it was on the right channel.
[3047.28] ChrisG: Yeah.
[3048.56] Curry: So I don't know if it's, and everything, if you stay in the dark is fine
[3056.24] Curry: or not bright light coming in.
[3059.04] Curry: I've seen it once or twice where cameras unable to handle a bright light seemingly.
[3066.32] Curry: This is nice.
[3067.84] Curry: It was on the channel it said it was.
[3069.92] Curry: It's like change to R1, be on R1.
[3072.48] Stephen: And it might be personally was that the camera's contrast was always awful on the B2FPV ones.
[3080.08] Stephen: It was like a very darkened image, but that FC just quickly scanning through,
[3085.84] Stephen: they've finally done some pretty noticeable upgrades.
[3089.2] Stephen: Because all these works are running F411, the B2FPV ones at least.
[3092.4] Stephen: All these AIOs, F411 everywhere, which is kind of poop grade.
[3096.96] Stephen: You're stuck at 512K of flash.
[3100.0] Stephen: You're also stuck with a really slow MCU, like 100 megahertz.
[3105.76] Stephen: So you couldn't even run that many filters.
[3108.4] Stephen: And then they had the onboarding LRS and it would just die with that.
[3113.04] Stephen: They've moved to a G473 like they're using on the KISS flight controllers, Jack.
[3119.84] Stephen: So this AIO is a G473, 168 megahertz.
[3125.36] Stephen: So it goes up like 50% more clock speed than the F411.
[3129.68] Stephen: And it's got a whole bunch more UARTs.
[3131.44] Stephen: You don't need to mess around with soft serial,
[3133.76] Stephen: like you've got a ton of UARTs available.
[3138.0] Stephen: Pretty nice.
[3138.56] Stephen: And a 400 milliwatt VTX on the board as well, Curry.
[3142.4] Stephen: It looks like a pretty good spec at least.
[3146.32] Curry: Yeah, at 200 milliwatts, this was suffering.
[3150.48] Curry: And they have put their flat ceramic antenna on this one, which aren't fantastic range.
[3158.72] Curry: Then again, it depends which way you go.
[3161.28] Curry: They've made it very light.
[3163.28] Curry: So they've built it to that spec.
[3165.68] Curry: Obviously, if it had a proper antenna, it would work better.
[3171.12] Curry: If it had a nicer camera, it would work better.
[3172.72] Curry: But these are heavier things.
[3174.88] Curry: So swings and roundabouts.
[3176.8] Stephen: I guess with the RX antenna, unless you care a lot about telemetry,
[3181.92] Stephen: you can just push out more from the radio itself, your actual ground radio, right?
[3188.48] Stephen: To make up for that, to a degree.
[3190.32] Stephen: Oh, you can tell the wrong way.
[3191.52] Curry: To a degree, I was getting...
[3194.56] Curry: If I fly all the way through the trees out into the path, which is normally not a problem,
[3205.44] Curry: it was getting to minus 105 at 250 milliwatts of power at 150 Hertz.
[3211.76] Curry: So it wasn't great.
[3213.6] Curry: Indoors, it'd be fine.
[3215.2] Curry: But outdoors, it's dodgy.
[3218.4] Curry: Well, I take my little radio out when I'm flying this in my light backpack, you see.
[3223.76] Curry: I could take my radio pocket and put the module on it,
[3227.6] Curry: which is bigger than the actual radio and push out two watts and then see how far it would get.
[3231.44] Stephen: Have they sent you the fancy gimbals for the pocket yet?
[3234.4] Stephen: No.
[3235.84] Stephen: You see, they launched those AGO-1 in nano size for the pocket now.
[3239.68] Stephen: So you can get the tiny, tiny radio, master radio with the full CNC metal gimbals now.
[3245.92] Stephen: So the gimbals are now twice as much as the radio.
[3249.2] Stephen: The gimbals cost more than the radio.
[3251.68] Stephen: Like, by a margin, right?

[3387.89] Stephen: Put the CNC on the lid and then put the Tupperware box upside down on top of its lid.

[3401.41] Stephen: So as long as it doesn't actually catch fire, I don't think it shouldn't get hot enough to
