=====================================

[0.0] Jack: Hello and you're listening to what drone out and special thank you to our lovely patrons that help donate
[7.48] Jack: So that we could pay the editor to remove the swear words and silly things we say
[12.56] Jack: Massive. Thank you to call us campus art folk now Sam Dharma on with the show
[23.16] Jack: Hello and welcome
[54.88] Jack: You're listening to lecture now today is obviously a Thursday because we're live
[60.88] Jack: It's eight ish
[63.68] Jack: Just about almost almost
[66.52] Jack: And you are joined by of course up first everyone's favorite curry kitten. Hello
[74.56] Jack: Our Lord of Master has returned. Hello
[78.64] Jack: praise be to the
[82.46] Jack: FPV gods and
[84.54] Jack: And the man who doesn't know what day the drone x show is
[90.46] Stephen: It's also a Thursday. It's Tuesday and Wednesday
[94.94] Stephen: I know it's days of drone days, right?
[97.74] Stephen: Thursdays are drone days. They should respect that
[100.78] Jack: Yeah, and the person who should have looked at the website himself
[105.1] Jack: brian
[107.02] Stephen: Me and jack were all scheduled to go to a drone expo and talk to people in suits about the fantastic possibilities
[114.16] Stephen: in modern military warfare enabled by things that we
[117.2] Stephen: Dearly want just to keep peaceful and hobby like and we would cry salty floods of tears and appeal to their good nature
[123.52] Stephen: But alas, none of it was to be because uh, we screwed up and booked the wrong day
[128.24] Stephen: Off our respective jobs
[130.4] Jack: Painless is so annoyed at me
[132.88] Jack: From the the cock up, uh, he refused to answer the call and hasn't gone me back
[138.32] Stephen: Wow, isn't that just isn't that the norm just like
[143.68] Stephen: But that's where we are
[145.44] Curry: Wow, frustratingly even managed to wind behind this up to the point of not replying to you. That's amazing
[152.56] Stephen: If only one of us had actually read
[155.12] Stephen: The website. Yeah
[156.72] Stephen: It's been a crazy time. So I started a new job. Not that's much of an excuse
[160.4] Stephen: But uh, yeah, I somehow conflated the two days. It's a bit of a shame but tuesday sursday
[166.94] Stephen: similar
[168.48] Stephen: I even had someone call me up and ask if I was attending and it was at that point
[171.92] Stephen: I was like, I wonder what they're calling up today
[174.64] Stephen: and uh
[177.52] Jack: We're uh, we're probably on the band list now for saying that we're going and not showing up. You're a no show
[185.6] Frank: Useless no show cannot be trusted. Yep
[189.6] Jack: Till spin was first in the chat caroline was second and third was ben
[196.88] Frank: Caroline actually posted on the discord, uh at
[201.04] Frank: Five to show meant to be starting
[204.32] Frank: uh
[205.76] Frank: the
[207.04] Frank: or a talk from
[209.44] Frank: the drone x expo
[212.32] Frank: Uh that's been posted up on the drone and sundry youtube channel
[218.24] Frank: All about gatwick. So there you go. It wouldn't have all been military stuff, but it'd have been gatwick as well
[224.24] Frank: I'd be winches as well
[226.24] Frank: fun, right?
[229.2] Frank: So you you've missed out on all these things
[232.4] Frank: Yeah
[233.76] Frank: Instead you presumably you'd stay home
[237.2] Frank: Getting out the scuba gear
[239.04] Stephen: Is oh my word. Yeah, it's revolting
[242.16] Frank: being torrential
[243.36] Stephen: We've had a bit of a temps water nasty flood situation. Um
[248.0] Stephen: As you may be aware this country has a primitive sewage system with just the one pipe tm
[254.96] Stephen: Well, which which has the benefit of being cheap and it was made by someone else 100 150 years ago
[261.6] Stephen: but the
[262.8] Stephen: considerable downside of
[264.8] Stephen: Shooting raw sewage out onto the street when there's too much rain
[268.56] Stephen: Um, as opposed to it being in this network like fatbergs and dead rats
[273.76] Stephen: Yeah, so so we're we're current. Yeah, there's a horrible situation right just around the corner from here happens every time it rains
[281.2] Stephen: Temps water have been down with the power washer but it still smells like bad things
[287.68] Frank: Well, there's there's a big hole in the main road outside mine at the moment because uh
[292.4] Frank: The the floodwater removed the manhole cover and oh wow far away
[297.68] Frank: That's impressive
[299.04] Frank: There was just a big actually I think half of the man because it's like one of the big manhole covers that spits in two triangles
[305.2] Stephen: Yeah
[305.52] Frank: Yeah, and one of them has fallen down the hole and the other one is like floated away
[310.72] Stephen: That's quite a bit of water pressure to carry off
[313.76] Stephen: Like 20 30 kilos of steel
[316.8] Frank: Not yeah, it's not a small amount of water, but yeah, it's just a big man with the mention of gap weight. Yeah
[326.8] Tony: What's going on yeah when he's there
[330.96] Jack: I know
[332.96] Jack: A few weeks ago I was trying to
[339.84] Jack: um troll through
[342.48] Jack: Tony's
[343.84] Jack: past catalog on facebook and I don't know whether either one of you two are friends with the old version of
[353.42] Jack: Because i've got a feeling that's the
[356.88] Jack: That's the facebook profile that has the footage of tony on top of the van
[364.0] Tony: Of good. I hope it's lost forever
[366.88] Jack: Yes, so there's now a bounty there is a
[372.72] Frank: Who can get that video? Yeah
[375.52] Curry: Surely frank can find it if there's a video out there
[379.36] Curry: Frank is like private detective at finding stuff on the internet
[382.96] Tony: We've talked about it on here in the past and then someone's put it in the chat
[387.52] Tony: Can we know i'm going?
[390.88] Tony: Repost you put it on i'm going off see you in three months
[398.16] Jack: Did you put the spare key back out
[401.28] Tony: Oh, I didn't even check. Do you know what? I think my tumble dryers had it
[405.36] Tony: So i'm in a bit i'm pissed off because my um washer dryer's not working
[411.36] Tony: I've had it seven years. It's worked perfect
[414.24] Tony: I cleaned the whole washer dryer because it was stinking the other day and now it don't bloody dry in the clothes
[421.6] Tony: So might have to buy a new one or get someone out to have a look
[426.24] Tony: Jack come around and fix me tumble dryer bruff
[428.96] Stephen: I can recommend a bunch of people called uh spin doctors. They were very effective at replacing awkward bits spin doctor
[436.72] Stephen: Is that an actual thing doctors? Yeah
[439.36] Stephen: They do washer dryers. I wholeheartedly recommend them
[442.88] Curry: Let's turn out the experience of talking about missing events and tumble dryers. Oh, oh middle age
[448.32] Jack: I know
[449.36] Curry: We are thoroughly now. You should have joined us before we started when we were talking about the size of game carts
[456.56] Curry: No, it's not exciting it was getting
[459.36] Tony: Oh, look at that spin doctor kill
[462.96] Jack: Uh, we've got some new diagnosis
[465.76] Jack: Clyde said probably needs a new drying element
[470.08] Tony: Yeah, but but it's so typical that i've cleaned it and now it's not working
[475.2] Curry: When you say cleaned it, you mean I broke it and now it doesn't work anymore
[480.56] Stephen: Tried to wash my mountain bike parts in there and now look what's happened. Oh
[485.6] Tony: Oh, that's so annoying. Yeah, it probably is just the heat the heating element or whatever but
[491.6] Koel: I love that
[495.6] Koel: I don't want to buy a new one 18 minutes. I'm sorry, mr
[500.8] Koel: Right until I fly I am
[504.72] Koel: I'm sorry. I i'm late for class. I know I want to hear two hours before
[512.4] Jack: and uh
[513.76] Stephen: We're gonna play a load of videos right? We've been waiting now now we can start talking about the drone related subjects
[519.84] Stephen: Our viewers may have been thinking that this was a diversion or we'd lost material. We're waiting for cole
[525.12] Stephen: And now we can now we can ask him about the camera profiles on order of these little doodads
[531.28] Jack: Cole's been flying in my defense. I helped cole
[534.96] Jack: Yes, he did
[536.32] Curry: By shouting at him until he left the house
[538.8] Curry: Cool. Let's stop raining in canada cole. Tell us what you've been up to
[543.76] Koel: I have been uh
[545.76] Koel: reconstructing my quad five million times in a row to determine why i'm getting video noise in my goggles that
[553.36] Koel: Actually happens to me not from anything on my drone and it's just my goggles
[559.12] Koel: Yeah, yeah get in fat shock. Love it when that happens. Yeah. Yeah, so um
[566.64] Koel: Basically, I mean here's the thing with analog video you expect noise you expect breakup you expect some level of
[574.4] Koel: You know, sometimes you get the lines if there's some weird electrical stuff and you expect analog breakup regardless. So
[580.56] Koel: That's one thing but you don't expect at least in my opinion and in my few years of flying
[587.36] Koel: You don't expect random like cross hatching
[591.26] Koel: electrical noise in the feed along with your
[595.04] Stephen: Analog breakup yourself like a new phone or anything recently a new fantastic little tamagotchi or something that totally isn't a spy cam
[603.92] Koel: I I didn't know I didn't but I will say this
[609.2] Koel: So i'm i'm using fat shock hdo's that's been my my bread and butter since I got into the hobby
[614.64] Koel: well
[616.0] Koel: I basically
[618.16] Koel: track down like
[620.24] Koel: someone selling another pair of hdo's for basically a song like next to nothing and
[626.72] Koel: I ab them
[628.48] Koel: One pair of hdo's with the same module the same battery the same whatever in the same environment
[634.8] Koel: Is perfectly good other pair has this weird electrical noise happening in it
[640.16] Stephen: Do you fix it?
[641.36] Stephen: Do you crack open the casing and the knowledge that may be the funny little optical bits will never go quite back into the right place
[649.44] Koel: Yeah, yeah that that's so it's really hard to get a picture of a screen in the in the in the goggles
[657.84] Stephen: Jack we can't actually see that way
[661.28] Koel: Images my attempt at taking a picture of the screens
[665.44] Koel: uh
[666.32] Koel: On my on my fat sharks essentially and it doesn't show up in the dvr. So it's not um
[673.04] Stephen: Well, that's something so at least the signal is clean when it hits the dvr. So you can kind of narrow down where it's happening
[679.52] Koel: well, so
[680.56] Stephen: basically what I was doing was dvr though, haven't you so
[683.76] Koel: Well
[685.68] Jack: What I ended up doing was he's got a power play but no batteries for it. Yeah
[692.32] Koel: Yeah
[693.68] Koel: Yeah
[694.48] Koel: But but basically I don't know why it happened when it happened how it happened where who what why when whatever they answer
[701.12] Koel: whatever the question is but
[703.36] Koel: out of nowhere
[704.56] Koel: I started noticing these really annoying
[706.8] Koel: Things in my goggles and it bugged the crap out of me to the point where dgi uses
[713.36] Koel: I was I was by myself in the middle of nowhere and even you just looked around and there's someone flying dji and just
[721.84] Stephen: That guy again. Yeah
[723.84] Koel: well
[725.2] Koel: Jack was my my patron saint in this whole regard because
[729.84] Koel: You know, he's a troubleshooting genius in this in this scenario. So
[734.08] Koel: Uh, I I was pretty lost i'll be honest because
[737.04] Koel: I tried another camera
[738.8] Koel: On my drone. No wasn't the camera. I tried
[742.64] Koel: Uh
[744.08] Koel: another vtx
[745.6] Koel: Wasn't the vtx
[747.36] Koel: I tried transmitter on transmitter off. I tried
[753.84] Koel: Taking everything off the board and literally just isolating a camera
[760.0] Koel: the video system
[761.68] Koel: xt60 that I wired up
[764.24] Koel: Differential dog no flight controller. No flight controller. No esc's powered. Nothing still had the issue
[771.2] Koel: I've tried module in module. Ah out
[775.28] Koel: I tried literally everything and even with nothing on there's still these weird little
[780.24] Stephen: Things going on that signal with with nothing coming in from the module just a black screen from the module and you get that
[786.08] Koel: Yeah, yeah, that's rough. Yeah, so
[790.0] Koel: Yeah, so then I ended up finding uh, like I said a cheapo or not a cheapo
[793.6] Koel: But like a a cheap someone selling a pair another hdo is for cheap
[797.68] Koel: Um, and I figured, you know hdo and hdo that should be a good comparison
[802.24] Koel: Although I guess there's different versions and iterations and whatnot
[805.2] Koel: Well the new ones they don't have this problem. So
[809.68] Koel: yeah, something's up and I've emailed fat shark and I had an email back but I
[816.08] Koel: I haven't gotten another one back from them in a couple days. So
[820.08] Curry: I'm uh, well, what would the email back say?
[823.84] Koel: We are no longer trading
[826.48] Koel: What did the email back say jack do you want to pipe in here for me buddy?
[831.76] Jack: Uh
[833.12] Jack: Have you have you tried not having a transmitter on?
[837.92] Jack: Yeah
[839.92] Koel: Um
[842.64] Koel: Yeah, um
[844.32] Koel: Basically asking asking what my trans what transmitter i'm using
[848.48] Koel: um
[849.52] Koel: If it's on
[850.72] Koel: Am I outside with the transmitter off?
[853.76] Koel: Or have it on but move it away from the goggles
[857.44] Stephen: Happened with nothing else switched on and what did they say then?
[860.72] Koel: Well, what I said was it still persists across multiple quads multiple receiver modules multiple cameras multiple vtx's even with transmitter off
[869.76] Koel: And and and whatever. Um, i'm still waiting still waiting to hear back
[874.64] Stephen: But it sounds like the something between the lcd panel and the actual like rf
[880.0] Stephen: What would it be like a demodulator or something the driver board, right jack?
[884.08] Jack: Yeah
[885.12] Jack: driving the uh
[887.44] Jack: Uh, yeah driving the oled screens. That's probably what it is. It's probably got too hot
[894.24] Koel: Yeah, and you just said uh, sounds like a capacitor has gone on the on the goggle board. Maybe
[899.52] Koel: um
[900.64] Koel: The other the other thing was which was which was I thought was really odd was
[905.12] Koel: um
[906.48] Koel: You in theory hdo's you have two pairs. They should be basically identical, right or am I completely wrong?
[913.12] Stephen: But speak about this material, right? Don't know. So what andy's saying is
[918.48] Stephen: that
[919.92] Stephen: Something on the circuit board has just aged out or it's gotten too hot, you know, yeah
[924.56] Stephen: Maybe they were left on a while
[926.64] Stephen: Maybe you just got bad luck and some components fail faster than others and yeah somewhere on that board is a bad component
[934.0] Koel: But the only reason why I was like, you know, two should be the same is on these new hdo's that I have
[939.76] Koel: I don't know if any of you have noticed this on fat checks before but
[942.96] Koel: In the screens, it's almost like you can see like a grid of like the pixels or something. Yeah
[949.68] Koel: Um, although on my original ones that are now, you know, giving me issues
[954.32] Koel: I never noticed that before but on these new versions i've noticed that which is
[959.12] Koel: I don't know. I I also am like insanely like
[962.4] Koel: Ocd when it comes to like looking at details and i'll like i'll notice little things that will just bug the crap out of me
[967.44] Stephen: Well, that is literally how oleds work. You know, there's there's a a grid of
[971.84] Stephen: A it's an emissive technology, right?
[974.48] Stephen: So yeah unlike lcd's when effectively you've got like kind of a stained glass window of a liquid crystal with a light behind it
[981.6] Stephen: With oleds each pixel is its own light source. It's its own light emitting diode in each pixel. So
[988.56] Stephen: The only way that you're not seeing
[991.04] Stephen: The individual pixels is if they're not properly in focus or if some part of that is is is like
[998.0] Stephen: Slightly blurring the image before it gets to your eye. So you might have just been wearing them for so long
[1002.96] Stephen: There's a bit of gunk in there
[1004.88] Stephen: Yeah, you can't quite um get it
[1008.08] Koel: well, you know what it's it's one of those things where i'm like
[1011.36] Koel: like like i was saying before like I can 100 put up with analog breakup and and
[1017.74] Koel: Multipath thing and electrical noise if for some reason there's any issue with my motors or whatever showing up in the feed
[1024.56] Koel: um
[1025.84] Koel: But I can't deal with
[1027.92] Koel: that
[1028.88] Koel: Plus an additional thing that like because fpv is all about the experience that you're seeing through your eyes. So like
[1036.24] Koel: it it definitely um
[1039.04] Stephen: You know, you've come to the right church poll you've come to the right church and the church is going to tell you
[1045.6] Stephen: Get down on your knees and go digital. Yeah, I know
[1050.56] Koel: I think I love analog. I don't know man. Like I
[1054.24] Koel: I love how cheap it is. I love how simple it is
[1058.16] Stephen: How small it is maybe you should go to the hd0s. They've got like great analog performance and you can uh
[1065.52] Stephen: You know stick with the analog vibe with hd0
[1069.04] Curry: Yeah, look I don't mind analog but as soon as you fly them side by side in the same location, you're like, oh my god
[1075.2] Curry: What am I doing? Why am I flying?
[1077.76] Curry: Digital this is this is lovely. You can see what you're doing. Everything look that tree's got branches and little branches
[1084.96] Curry: Well, you know what I only likes the grass
[1087.52] Curry: The grass is nice
[1089.6] Koel: I will admit like I when I do these ab comparisons of I think even you've done some somewhat recently right curry, um
[1097.36] Koel: And some of your more recent videos I think you've
[1099.84] Curry: Only accidentally just because I was in the same field and I was flying a couple of analog quads and then it walks now
[1104.4] Curry: Quad and then as soon as if you fly analog first you go to walk snow
[1108.32] Curry: You're like, oh my god, this is amazing
[1109.52] Curry: If you fly walks now first and go to analog you you then pick your quad up. It's like something's wrong here
[1114.24] Curry: So it was wrong with the camera. It's not it's not coming in the right
[1118.88] Koel: Yeah, yeah, you know what
[1121.6] Koel: There's no denying like the the quality and the whatever, you know advantages of digital i'm just like
[1128.8] Koel: Analog is so much more predictable. I guess though when it comes to break up and
[1132.96] Koel: And it coming back and I love you guys have actually seen that that sort of issue right now with that
[1140.08] Koel: Yeah, oh threes with the newest goggles where like they won't reconnect or something and
[1145.12] Koel: Until you like rearm the quad. So it's kind of like a fatal flaw right now, but I guess it's not really uh
[1151.52] Stephen: Yeah, and not not really a big enough problem in terms of dji's overall market
[1157.2] Stephen: Mindshare that they're going to do anything about it. Yeah. Yeah much. Yeah. Yeah
[1161.76] Stephen: Yeah
[1163.04] Jack: I mean, no, what are you doing?
[1165.12] Jack: Oh, sorry. Go go. That's okay, buddy. Go ahead dude. I'm gonna say it's inherited the bi heli 32 bug
[1173.68] Stephen: I think they just haven't tested it, you know, they're just like some some dude fluid once like yeah work done
[1179.6] Stephen: um, which is obviously
[1182.24] Stephen: Good enough for casual flyers
[1184.08] Stephen: But if you want to really thrash it to the limits which we kind of do on a regular basis
[1188.72] Stephen: It's not good enough, is it?
[1190.72] Stephen: Testing that's what users do, isn't it?
[1193.68] Stephen: Microsoft approach get rid of the qa team and let everyone do beta testing
[1199.44] Stephen: Yeah
[1200.64] Koel: Yeah, sorry. Carl. What were you saying?
[1203.2] Koel: You know what? I actually can't remember but I think it's okay
[1206.48] Stephen: I was going to say that digital isn't all rosy and I think I in my mind's eye. I think it's going to be absolutely awesome now
[1214.08] Stephen: Every time I fly digital I notice that mpeg corruption, you know, I notice the blocks
[1219.6] Stephen: And you do see them over grass and through leaves you're like
[1223.52] Stephen: It looks really detailed and you get to a certain distance and it and the encoders like you don't need to see that
[1229.68] Curry: And it just puts a block there instead the worst place I fly is where there's trees either side and grass down the middle
[1236.72] Curry: And walks now just says, okay
[1239.36] Curry: This this is green
[1241.52] Curry: I'm just going to play this area like a lake of green and I think that'll be fine
[1246.4] Koel: Yeah
[1247.68] Koel: Frank oh
[1249.68] Koel: It is complete
[1251.68] Koel: What is jack and stress? It's not on the windowsill
[1254.48] Koel: It's not on the windowsill. What either way or is that xt60 jack?
[1259.76] Jack: Uh, not probably not enough
[1265.52] Curry: I think the uh, the bandit sleeve might have thicker wire than the xc60
[1272.32] Stephen: I'm just curious as to I guess there's an xt60 on there because you're just going to put it on a slide bench, aren't you?
[1277.44] Stephen: But wow, that is
[1279.6] Jack: Just it was just a try and
[1282.24] Jack: I put it together. Um
[1284.32] Jack: I'd forgotten the order of how the sales go
[1288.4] Jack: And I was chatting to cole
[1290.88] Jack: only like basically half listening to him and half trying not to
[1296.24] Jack: short
[1299.84] Jack: I'm sorry, buddy
[1301.2] Jack: um, but you know like chatting to cole kind of like
[1304.64] Jack: it gives
[1305.76] Jack: Like it kind of gives me a kick up the ass to do stuff because like he's like troubleshooting
[1311.28] Jack: He's like charging he's going out of fly
[1313.6] Jack: He's sending invoices
[1315.68] Jack: and I just
[1317.52] Jack: When i'm not chatting to cole i'm just sleeping constantly
[1321.04] Jack: um
[1322.16] Jack: the
[1323.36] Jack: The gauge of wire. Yes, I will admit I can beef it up
[1328.16] Jack: I've got no problem. This is just this is just looking at my eyes, right? Well, that was just a test wasn't it?
[1334.4] Jack: yeah, um
[1335.92] Jack: But being on the windowsill and it kind of got a bit out of balance
[1340.32] Jack: Like I started charging it up
[1342.8] Jack: And like one cell was like 390
[1346.96] Jack: The middle cell was really low. So that was like four
[1351.84] Jack: um
[1353.6] Jack: 79
[1355.68] Jack: 78 and then the other one was like three 3.80 on the money
[1364.8] Stephen: You did pick up a bunch of vapes and then keep them on your windowsill for a couple of months
[1368.72] Jack: Yeah, yeah, this is the the lithium polymer
[1372.8] Jack: Um, you can't use that word the the the breathing
[1379.28] Jack: Smoking for simulators. They call them pussy sticks if that works
[1387.36] Jack: Frank did the maths on this
[1390.16] Jack: And it's a couple of watt hours, I think
[1393.84] Jack: So is that safe for international flying?
[1396.64] Koel: No, I mean look at it. Is it even safe?
[1401.92] Stephen: That looks the exact same as my lithium ion packs. Yeah, that is that is within the flight restrictions
[1407.28] Stephen: You could pop that in your luggage and off you go
[1410.96] Tony: No
[1412.64] Tony: Talking of bombs
[1414.08] Tony: There's one just off brighten there at the moment
[1417.92] Tony: Really? Yeah, but be be be aware jack that you might look the same jack
[1423.52] Tony: What will come in your life? Mine has a banana on it
[1429.2] Jack: There's a extra bonus what's out for the banana this is not a bomb i'd like to
[1433.92] Jack: It's black
[1435.36] Curry: Well, it could be under the certain circumstances a lipo battery like if you try to fly it
[1444.0] Jack: Have you got anything that will fly this are you still willing to test this?
[1450.56] Frank: Sure. Why not?
[1452.16] Frank: It's here
[1453.2] Frank: I can go on a plane for about two days. You could fly
[1456.96] Jack: Is it like a success or?
[1458.96] Jack: What it's a 3s
[1460.88] Jack: 3s
[1462.08] Jack: four in parallel three cell. It sounds like it should go in your tricopter
[1467.84] Jack: Yeah, it doesn't fit four in parallel. That's that's fat man. Gaffa tape. Let's like tape it to the bottom of the
[1475.36] Tony: That's what
[1482.72] Jack: No
[1483.68] Frank: It's going to take ages to charge on air and on fire
[1487.12] Frank: Yes
[1488.24] Jack: Two of the rules that shouldn't be just going to charge it at like 500 milliamps and leave it all down
[1494.14] Jack: Multi-rotor. Okay, that's the deal. Has anybody got a plane that big? It looks quite heavy
[1500.08] Stephen: Half a kilo or so white chunky
[1504.31] Stephen: It's got to be at least a pound of battery surely
[1507.51] Jack: Uh, yeah, I mean it's
[1509.83] Jack: You want me to weigh it? I can weigh it. Yeah, yeah, do it
[1515.03] Tony: Do it now
[1516.15] Tony: I saw that mandy rc on um
[1518.79] Tony: Facebook someone's making them in whole I think maybe
[1523.57] Stephen: 65 amp continuous and you see he's asking about some lithion packs. That sounds amazing. That sounds beautiful
[1531.51] Tony: 130 burst I think on red or something
[1534.63] Stephen: Yeah, that's a little cells. Do they have to get that kind of oomph? That's got to be at least a 4p
[1540.79] Stephen: Yeah, it's this big
[1542.55] Koel: I don't know man, like my my uh
[1546.07] Koel: For 4 000 milliamp hour o-line or gold line as um
[1553.67] Stephen: They all say they can do this number
[1555.83] Stephen: But I can tell you from putting those things on a five inch and trying to cruise it around
[1560.79] Stephen: If you draw anything more than like 10 amps, it just goes all sorts of wrong like
[1566.71] Stephen: I don't know man. My the ones I have is where it's happy
[1570.39] Koel: the one that I have is uh
[1572.55] Koel: The 4 000 milliamp hour 6s 1p gold line or o-line ones
[1577.51] Koel: They're rated for 45 amp continuous, but can handle even more than that if they get it first
[1582.79] Stephen: Yeah, you must have better cells. I've got 18 650s in mine and they struggle to get over 10 amps
[1588.07] Stephen: They really don't like it the voltage just goes way down
[1591.27] Koel: See it's all about the moly cell uh cells, man
[1593.83] Koel: Like the the p45b's I think p45a's but then they're even coming out with like some some new ones now
[1600.15] Stephen: They're they're able to really handle some some current which is really there's a massive golfing cost between the regular ones and the premium cells
[1607.59] Stephen: though, right
[1609.03] Koel: Well, I don't know man. Like I feel like you can get
[1612.63] Koel: I mean we have a moly cell plant in canada and there there was a moly cell plant in taiwan and I was looking at prices and
[1619.11] Koel: it was like
[1620.23] Koel: If you get them, you know direct you can get like a cell or two for less than 10 bucks each
[1625.59] Stephen: I think around like so you just you just got to skip the retailers and go
[1629.75] Stephen: Yeah, that's the sauce
[1631.11] Koel: Yeah, because then I was actually looking
[1633.59] Koel: Recently because I actually want to try lithium ion on my five inch like just for cruising
[1639.51] Koel: Um, because I was checking on my osd and i'm like at when i'm cruising around on my five inch i'm only drawing maximum like 10 amps
[1647.67] Koel: um, so
[1649.43] Koel: If I say picked up like a 3000 milliamp hour lithium ion that's rated for 30 amps
[1654.63] Koel: I should be able to cruise for like at least 10 minutes i'm getting is my theory so
[1660.39] Koel: but then I was looking at the cost of
[1662.87] Koel: like the pre-made packs compared to like if you want to buy the cells and
[1667.75] Koel: You actually you spend about five more bucks for them to pre-make it
[1672.87] Koel: Unless you go to say like a vape store or to a direct thing
[1676.39] Koel: Then you're actually saving about like you're only saving maybe
[1681.03] Koel: A few bucks if you buy them like from a store like a regular retailer
[1685.11] Koel: But if you're going to like a vape or or sort of like direct type of scenario, they're only like five to ten bucks max each
[1692.55] Stephen: So caroline saying you can get them for for seven quid
[1695.35] Stephen: The trouble I was having was when I last looked they're all sold out and so I was kind of forced to look at the
[1701.75] Stephen: Costlier stuff, but
[1703.67] Stephen: Yeah, I had some good results from this five inch. I had like an ultra light five inch on 2203 motors with bi-blades
[1711.19] Stephen: at
[1712.15] Stephen: Really ultra light it was set up with like
[1715.97] Stephen: 2950 kv motors, so it was really it was fine on
[1720.39] Stephen: 3s and uh, and I flew it on lithions
[1723.59] Stephen: But yeah, just didn't like as soon as I tapped the throttle the voltage would go through the floor
[1728.79] Stephen: So I had to fly it so carefully
[1732.07] Koel: Yeah
[1733.11] Koel: I don't know. I think lithium ion technology is getting it's starting to get pretty advanced man
[1737.19] Koel: Like they're I bet you in a year from now. There's going to be like
[1741.91] Koel: I mean i'm not obviously I can't see the future but
[1745.91] Koel: I wouldn't be surprised if we got up to like
[1748.79] Koel: I don't know 70 80 amp continuous in the next like couple years
[1753.27] Stephen: Maybe the noise about changing battery chemistry. I heard all the electric cars coming out of china are on uh sodium chemistry
[1761.35] Tony: Instead of the ones catching fire or not ones. Yeah, there's this one technology where they use something to
[1768.23] Curry: Keep the things apart some liquid or something
[1771.19] Curry: So the the battery density can become better and if you pierce it, it doesn't burst into flames or something
[1776.63] Stephen: I can't remember what it was. Yeah, the sodium batteries aren't as dense
[1779.83] Stephen: They don't have as long a range, but they're just way way cheaper cheaper because sodium is much more abundant than lithium
[1786.63] Tony: Yes
[1788.15] Tony: Aren't they in already in laptops and some?
[1791.35] Tony: I think they're english. There's an english brand i've watched them
[1795.75] Tony: Doing uh laptop batteries
[1798.55] Jack: You've got an ldo sticker on your goggles
[1802.47] Tony: Would find it
[1806.63] Jack: Oh
[1811.91] Jack: Oh my pre-orders on tony dunn gatwick
[1818.07] Jack: Green capture
[1820.47] Tony: You put it on the sunny shirt if you want i'm going to do my voice like that. Well
[1830.07] Curry: It's it's something someone to say if they were flying around gatwick
[1833.59] Curry: Yeah, I was just looking for other people flying
[1836.71] Curry: Oh
[1838.71] Jack: Bend you up and shove you in the back of that van
[1843.03] Koel: That's funny that tony's handcuffed and just like
[1847.27] Stephen: He's looking meaningfully at the female officer and going i'd rather you've got me in the back of the van
[1854.47] Frank: This episode was recorded in front of a live online audience downloaded and edited to make sense when it played audio only
[1861.25] Frank: Sensors to please the itunes people hosted on the internet forwarded through to your podcast provider
[1866.05] Frank: Downloaded playing on your device and is now playing in your ears all thanks to our patreons
[1871.83] Frank: Consider joining them and you'll also get other online benefits find out more at patreon.com
[1878.23] Frank: Let's drone out
[1880.07] Jack: so it
[1882.13] Jack: 160 grams
[1883.91] Jack: It is 10 centimeters by six centimeters. That's what i'll show you so
[1890.07] Stephen: And if anyone wants to meet jack he's
[1893.59] Stephen: single
[1895.75] Curry: You could have made it a six cell jack. I could have put it on this. This is ready to go
[1900.15] Curry: and it's a bit small and
[1902.39] Jack: Very gentle the person who gives me those
[1906.87] Jack: Bipes would probably be dead by the time I get enough to make a
[1912.23] Jack: a four
[1914.15] Jack: four p six s
[1917.67] Koel: Well, so I found the real deal ones, it's the molly cell p50 b's they're 5000 milliamp hours
[1923.83] Koel: rated for 60 amp discharge current
[1927.19] Koel: like
[1929.19] Stephen: That's a lot like 60 amps
[1932.15] Stephen: Anything you put onto that it's going to get a little bit toasty, isn't it? Isn't the whole cell just going to get pretty
[1937.83] Koel: F'ing hot pretty quick. It says continuous discharge rating max is 60 amps
[1943.49] Koel: adc temp cutoff
[1946.23] Stephen: So it says continuous discharge atm, but then there's an atc
[1950.63] Stephen: So how long before you hit atc and it just cuts out?
[1955.67] Stephen: Well, I mean if it's continuous doesn't that mean until the cell is empty, but then there's a temperature cutoff. So
[1963.67] Koel: Well, it's it's a little dance you have to you have to experiment and you know what like I actually am really curious about
[1969.43] Koel: Starting to build my own lithium ion packs just for the experimentation process of it
[1973.83] Koel: Because I don't know man, like I love my I love flying my five inch and I love flying my seven inch
[1980.23] Koel: But if I can get longer flight times with cruising on my five inch
[1984.79] Koel: I mean i'm using the same vtx's i'm using the same. I mean i'm not using um diversity receivers, but like
[1991.75] Koel: I mean
[1993.27] Koel: I don't see why
[1994.79] Koel: You couldn't do some, you know, some nice flying with a five inch if you if you get a better capacity
[1999.75] Koel: That's not huge because that's the problem with lipo is like
[2004.15] Koel: i'm using like 13 50 milliamp hour batteries on my five inch and you could get
[2009.73] Koel: 3000
[2011.59] Koel: You know light lithium ion. Yeah, it's a little bit heavier
[2015.35] Koel: Maybe like I think maybe around like 50 grams heavier or so, but like you're getting way more capacity
[2022.63] Stephen: Well, this is kind of the equation that cine whoops have right there
[2026.71] Stephen: They're just completely up that ratio of motors to battery in favor of the battery to get the longest flight time on the assumption
[2033.11] Stephen: That you're not going to really going to be doing anything at pro with it, right? Yeah
[2038.31] Curry: I've just found I have a molly cell
[2041.03] Curry: 18650 which I found pretty good at the time. It was all about the sony vc6
[2046.23] Curry: Which were pretty good as well, but that molly cell was about the same I found
[2050.55] Curry: This was for flying
[2052.07] Curry: There was this really weird quad that would fly in a single
[2055.49] Curry: 18650 for about 10 minutes and that's what these were for but it was pretty good
[2059.91] Koel: Yeah, I actually ordered. Um, I just ordered a pack another o-line pack
[2064.23] Koel: Which I was hoping was gonna arrive before this weekend, which I don't think it's going to but it's got the sony vtc6 is in there
[2070.77] Koel: 3000 milliamp hour
[2072.71] Koel: Yeah, i'm excited to try those out because yeah, they've been
[2076.39] Koel: They're they've they're like pretty highly regarded. I think as far as the o-line packs were really good value
[2081.91] Stephen: But they haven't been in stock here for years. I got one for my goggles. I think it's uh
[2088.31] Stephen: Like a 3s pack has this fancy little battery indicator on the side. It's pretty useful
[2094.15] Koel: Well, you know what actually I
[2097.03] Koel: Another project that I when I got those hdo's
[2100.31] Koel: They actually came with a fat the fat truck battery that has the micro usb chart like ability within
[2106.39] Koel: But whoever owned them previously they I don't know what happened to the balance lead
[2110.63] Koel: But they just like sliced the balance lead off. So there was just like two little wires just like hanging out like this. So
[2117.67] Koel: So I that was a repair that I just did well a buddy of mine helped me because he had a crimp crimp kit tool or whatever
[2124.95] Koel: and
[2126.23] Koel: That's done. But
[2128.07] Stephen: Yeah, it's you have a future with draws of tiny little plugs
[2133.11] Curry: Hundreds of draws of tiny little plugs. Oh my god. I keep mine in many many boxes
[2139.03] Koel: Yeah
[2140.47] Koel: Yeah
[2141.59] Koel: I'm like, do I get one of those i'm like it could come in handy someday
[2146.07] Koel: and
[2147.03] Stephen: I tried to get them but then you never have the right size and you stand up getting more and more different sizes of
[2151.99] Stephen: Plugs and crimp things it gets exponential
[2155.83] Stephen: Yeah dangerous
[2157.43] Frank: But you know what?
[2158.79] Frank: The most dangerous thing is having a job where you have the ability to buy the really expensive ones
[2166.31] Frank: And then you get used to those and then you can't use anything else after that
[2170.95] Koel: Yeah, your standard is like
[2173.27] Frank: Yeah, a really good crimping tool actually makes crimping really easy
[2178.23] Frank: and then like a normal crimping tool
[2181.19] Frank: Is a pain
[2183.19] Stephen: I don't even know how many newtons pressure i'm using this is outrageous
[2187.19] Stephen: How can I even do this?
[2188.95] Frank: It doesn't just hold the things and hold them all over for me. Like you have to actually like
[2195.19] Frank: And use some level of skill where's the espresso attachment I don't believe
[2201.75] Frank: It's it's yeah
[2204.55] Frank: If if you struggle with crimping, it's
[2207.59] Frank: Probably not you that's my suggestion
[2210.23] Koel: Fair enough. It's just not easy and it's probably the tool that sucks right as a computer guy. I was
[2216.95] Stephen: Introduced to crimping via network cables and i've viewed
[2221.51] Stephen: A spectrum of tools from the really nice stuff that some network engineer who've been doing it for years would let you borrow for five
[2227.35] Stephen: Minutes to the stuff that your employer bought you because they thought it was good enough
[2231.35] Stephen: That was made of plastic and bent when you tried to close it shut. Oh, that's not good. It's pretty awful. Some of them
[2237.19] Stephen: Yeah, it didn't make me want it made me want to make it someone else's problem in its entirety
[2242.23] Stephen: So, uh, yeah, I just I just try and buy the leads these days
[2245.59] Frank: I feel like network
[2248.23] Frank: Ends the rj45s are like another level of pain
[2253.43] Curry: I didn't know that soldering was a thing back in the day when
[2257.43] Curry: Like my work colleague showed me harry attached rj45s and it was just this feeling went clicky clicky and it was done
[2263.75] Curry: He just pushed on this thing clicky clicky and he plugged in that was it
[2267.51] Stephen: amazing
[2269.03] Stephen: It used to be simple and now it's like there's crosstalk tolerances and additional foil layers and it's just gotten way out of hand
[2277.19] Koel: well, you know what the the local buddy of mine that helped me
[2280.63] Koel: basically, you know fix the balance because he had the crimp kit like
[2285.11] Koel: He basically shared that same sentiment of what everyone's kind of saying like it's a pain in the butt
[2289.75] Koel: But he made it seem he made it look fairly easy. He was able to do it within a couple minutes and
[2296.55] Koel: He's like, okay
[2297.99] Koel: Which side does the little metal piece have to sit in the thing before I do? Oh wait, actually it has to be the other way
[2304.15] Koel: And then oh, okay. I think it's in there the wires in and then okay. I'm gonna squeeze it. Okay
[2310.23] Koel: Okay, it's done. But it's it's almost like a like black magic really
[2315.27] Koel: There's a definite map to it
[2317.19] Frank: also like even
[2319.11] Frank: When you're doing pretty well, make sure you've got more crimpy endy bits than you think you need
[2325.19] Frank: Oh, yeah many you think you need you need more because otherwise the last one that you're putting on will disintegrate as you crimp it
[2333.59] Koel: Yeah, because you basically that's the rule
[2335.83] Koel: It's a ton of pressure that you're you're bending it and turning it and on something wrong
[2340.15] Koel: What you just completely destroy it, right?
[2342.95] Koel: You just like completely
[2344.79] Koel: Ruin it. Yeah. Yeah
[2347.43] Koel: Yeah, it's
[2348.63] Stephen: Oh gosh
[2350.23] Stephen: And you got there in the end. Did you did you fancy do anything fancy and like swap the micro usb plug for a usb c?
[2356.47] Stephen: While you're at it
[2357.99] Koel: No, I haven't done that. Although I have done some through-hole repair recently, which has been pretty fun. Uh through holes
[2365.19] Koel: Whatever. I don't know if I told you about it, but basically
[2368.95] Koel: I had a blue yeti mic that I think I think I did tell you guys about it. Did I not?
[2374.95] Koel: Yeah, yeah last week
[2377.43] Koel: It's successfully repaired now and I don't know if I if it was at that stage last time we talked but yeah
[2383.35] Koel: Yeah, yeah, we already covered up. Sorry
[2386.79] Jack: That's all good
[2388.87] Jack: Tony how's your uh, dji quad going your new
[2395.35] Tony: Well, I had to jump to get it out of the sky I saw that I saw that
[2401.83] Koel: I
[2403.83] Tony: Uh, I took it. I took it out and I literally just put it in my pocket
[2407.75] Tony: I had my phone up obviously because I was mountain biking and my phone's attached to my bike anyway, but
[2414.47] Tony: I thought oh, I'll just
[2416.15] Tony: Take it out for a shot on the way home from
[2419.67] Tony: riding
[2421.19] Tony: Didn't bother using the phone
[2422.63] Tony: It's like leave the phone in the pocket take the drone out press the button on the top and it goes cycles through dronie
[2428.87] Tony: Follow all that malarkey and then you press it again, and then it takes off done that perfect
[2435.03] Tony: Road down about a minute and a half footage
[2438.55] Tony: Got off my bike put my bike down and it was up quite high and I was like, huh?
[2442.79] Tony: Okay
[2443.75] Tony: Well, they held me hand out and it was like
[2453.75] Tony: I think you could just put the phone back on and then it would have connected
[2458.39] Tony: and you could have saved land, but
[2461.11] Tony: the whole thing was like
[2463.35] Tony: Not to use a phone or anything use me fine. That was the test
[2466.63] Tony: I ended up having to jump up grab it
[2469.75] Frank: I've now got this image of like you going back to like your car getting a step ladder out and like
[2479.35] Koel: There wasn't video on his instagram story and it was so funny because you're just like you're putting your hand out you're like come to me
[2485.91] Koel: Come to me and it's like it's like it's not coming and you're just you can like see the frustration in your face and then
[2492.31] Koel: All of a sudden you just see like you see a little you see a tony hopping up, you know
[2495.91] Tony: Just grab it grab the drone from the sky
[2498.39] Tony: I must say it turns off very very quickly though
[2500.87] Tony: So once she once I grabbed it and just turned it sideways it literally goes
[2506.07] Tony: Turns off nice really really quick. So
[2508.79] Tony: You know, you could just grab it out of the sky and turn it off
[2512.31] Tony: Quite quite easy, but it was just annoying that I was going
[2516.71] Tony: like a penis in luckily I was in the woods and no one could see me but
[2522.07] Tony: It was just yeah, so tests failed i've got to do it again
[2527.27] Koel: but I do find that the dji drones are pretty good for that like
[2531.59] Koel: I remember like the mavics and the mini drones is like if you have it coming down towards you you kind of hold the bottom and
[2536.79] Koel: Just like
[2538.07] Koel: Like as soon as it gets past a certain angle
[2540.95] Koel: Motors just cut and and but apparently it's not good for it supposedly. I don't know
[2548.07] Stephen: Well, i've only done because what and there's if there's no
[2551.25] Koel: Resistance on the motors what's bad? Yeah, that's what I thought too. I'm like people say that there's something wrong about doing it that way but
[2558.71] Koel: Yeah, there's no destruction. There's no
[2561.83] Stephen: Something in the motor you can see that be bad idea, right?
[2565.19] Stephen: It's just like a safety feature really
[2567.19] Tony: Yeah
[2568.39] Tony: No way, can you get 10 to 14 minutes out of it?
[2573.03] Tony: Seven at best
[2576.07] Stephen: I don't know where they got the 17 minutes you start the top a really tall mountain and you're just constantly descending
[2582.71] Curry: This is the theoretical laboratory tests like what ranges on an electric car
[2587.99] Frank: This is reality. It's a exactly 23.2 degrees c
[2592.47] Frank: Yeah
[2594.47] Tony: Don't even know how they got that in this room until it landed
[2598.47] Tony: I think they even forced it up because it starts to try to land at nine percent
[2603.35] Tony: And I think they probably forced it until it was like nearly dead and then landed it but
[2608.47] Curry: That was also they keep knocking it up with a stick
[2611.99] Tony: I mean a bit of an updraft
[2615.03] Tony: We'll just keep going up
[2617.19] Tony: or most most of these quads when they're
[2619.75] Tony: DJI quads when they're dying
[2622.07] Tony: Phases and beeping at you. I think you still can keep pushing them up
[2625.67] Curry: But if you give it a hundred percent throttle it will eventually go up but anything below like 90, it's like no i'm coming down
[2631.51] Curry: Trivia
[2634.47] Tony: The ease of use of it's just brilliant and the size of it is and uh, i quite like i'm i'm out
[2640.71] Tony: i'm quite happy with the
[2642.87] Tony: Video quality really it's not it doesn't yeah, it looks fine
[2646.87] Koel: It looks perfectly fine man from what i've seen you post like
[2650.23] Koel: On instagram social media stuff obviously use case, isn't it?
[2654.47] Stephen: There's some people who'll get snobby and say that, you know, the top end DJI
[2658.47] Stephen: Quads are not good enough because they need so-and-so film camera, but this depends what you want to use the footage for exactly
[2664.95] Tony: Yeah, I mean i've sat there and watched back watch it back. Um, and i've done the one where it climbs up
[2670.79] Tony: Up the hill and then I go for about five minutes
[2674.07] Tony: On my mtb in the sun and yeah, I don't think it looks too bad on a 55 inch tv
[2680.15] Tony: I'd like to be able to turn the um
[2683.83] Tony: Sharpness down on it, isn't it?
[2686.23] Koel: Yeah, it does have that sort of digital
[2689.03] Koel: Whatever look yeah
[2692.31] Stephen: You get sparkly grass and sparkly edges on objects a bit
[2696.23] Tony: Uh, yeah a little bit of a little bit of that. It's just a small sensor over sharpening. Yeah. Yeah
[2702.63] Tony: It's a little but apart from that I think i'm quite enjoying the little thing
[2707.83] Koel: I mean, I guess it's made for for people that are just like
[2711.59] Koel: You know, I just want a drone that will go up
[2714.07] Stephen: And and it just works, right? Do you think it noticeably worse than the 03 or is it in the same ballpark as the 03?
[2720.63] Stephen: Do you think tony?
[2722.07] Stephen: I don't know
[2723.67] Koel: I bet you it's worse to be honest, but
[2728.31] Koel: Like from what i've seen on like an actual monitor
[2731.43] Koel: Oh
[2733.11] Stephen: Halfing sensors not terrible, man. I mean like and phones have less than that, right? Yeah, it's a whole feature less
[2741.75] Stephen: It's just about the fancy processing you can do on it
[2745.11] Tony: in the lens
[2746.47] Tony: It's really really good for the price and
[2750.63] Tony: You know trouble is now it's raining and i'm not going anywhere
[2755.19] Curry: So
[2757.19] Curry: On that subject has anybody got anything at least planned for the next week when I looked I think
[2763.49] Curry: Saturday looked reasonable my way, but i'm not sure about next week
[2768.53] Frank: Saturday seems to be the window saturday looks like
[2772.07] Stephen: It's not any really window saturday. I thought i'd might go and see alien at the cinema. So oh nice
[2778.79] Tony: You want to do that on a sunday when it's raining?
[2781.43] Tony: Yeah
[2782.39] Koel: Yeah, when everybody goes
[2785.27] Koel: Yeah, exactly
[2786.63] Tony: I think i'm going to ride to the coast and back saturday and then I think i've been
[2792.07] Tony: Told that i've got to go down to my parents caravan way because it's my birthday next tuesday
[2798.15] Tony: And I haven't done anything
[2801.03] Tony: No arrangements for a party. Nothing. So i've been I thought you were booking a night club
[2809.27] Tony: Well the whole dj thing mucked me about and
[2813.75] Tony: Yeah
[2815.19] Tony: And it was quite expensive. It was like a flight's worth of money. So I thought
[2820.39] Tony: I'll just go somewhere and then I thought are you gonna go with time? I don't know
[2824.23] Tony: Go on. You're home
[2825.67] Koel: No, you said i'll say home and have a drink. Yeah, she found the she found the sun
[2831.67] Tony: Oh, yeah
[2833.99] Koel: Gack you did that didn't you?
[2836.87] Jack: Yep
[2838.87] Tony: You got some sun send it over
[2841.75] Jack: I know frank frank was said to be photos of today's cat that was working with them
[2848.39] Jack: Yeah, my supervisor today. Oh, yeah was the belly soft
[2853.35] Frank: Thank you berry
[2856.23] Frank: Enormous fluffy belly. Yeah
[2859.51] Curry: Belly's are just traps. If you touch them, those claws will go in. That's that's my experience
[2865.59] Curry: This was a very
[2867.11] Koel: Laid-back cat. Wow. Yeah, some cats just don't care. They're like, uh, i'm chilling
[2873.03] Curry: I don't know why every cat I've owned is a psychopath and it would like set a trap and then try and murder you
[2880.31] Stephen: My cats are pretty chill
[2881.51] Stephen: They're just somewhat irritating and just walk across my keyboard and fall asleep on the edge of my keyboard and act like i'm the problem
[2889.11] Stephen: you know
[2890.15] Koel: well
[2893.35] Koel: They're the actual owner you are the pet
[2896.63] Curry: Yeah, yeah, mine just comes in like steals xc60 connectors and runs off
[2904.87] Stephen: Knows your weakness
[2906.87] Stephen: That's quite funny
[2908.55] Jack: What um, what sex male or female?
[2912.79] Tony: Um female for me
[2915.91] Curry: I like my head
[2917.91] Curry: On a preference I'd go female but it's a bit of gun to my head. Yeah
[2926.55] Tony: Yes often
[2930.39] Tony: Oh man, any more questions jack
[2935.43] Jack: Name of xd60, but
[2939.83] Stephen: Thank you jack your valuation is complete. We'll let you know
[2944.55] Frank: I was going to be going to wing racing this weekend, but unfortunately that's been cancelled
[2951.91] Tony: I wonder why because of the weather maybe well
[2955.91] Curry: They got one decent day. I'm attempting to fly a wing maybe on saturday back back with open hd
[2965.35] Stephen: Which finally managed to mount the ocean finally carved out enough space in the frame to fit some in
[2971.11] Curry: Well, the ocean is staying in the wing
[2973.19] Curry: I've got the ocean two board that's now acting as a ground station because the ocean two board has an hdmi out
[2980.23] Curry: Which makes it slightly more suitable than taking a raspberry pi 4 which then I have to take a special
[2986.07] Curry: Basically, I was taking a charger working in desktop power supply to supply it with 2.5 amps of 5 volts
[2992.15] Curry: And then plugging in loads of crap and now I just plug in like a like, you know, a three to six s battery
[2998.23] Curry: And it go from there
[2999.91] Curry: Although I did sound like you're slowly, uh optimizing. That's good. I did have to make special usb cables where I have to find
[3008.31] Curry: Like a usb cable, which is nicely shielded cut it off and solder on like about three millimeters
[3015.51] Curry: Of cable to attach to the oaken board. So there's no
[3019.11] Stephen: There's no space for it to go wrong. Oh, yeah, you were fighting with like bad usb leads and lack of uh, kind of
[3027.41] Stephen: insulation and
[3029.25] Stephen: Interference and things last time, weren't you? Did you get that resolved?
[3033.43] Curry: Yes on this one because
[3035.59] Curry: On the oaken
[3036.95] Curry: Open hd have rewritten their software from scratch after a lot of things happened
[3041.51] Curry: And one thing we found is if you try and use even over usb
[3045.83] Curry: It's hard coded to a port that wasn't available in the oaken 2 board. So now i'm using usb tethering
[3052.47] Curry: Which is fine
[3053.67] Curry: But I found that if I use just a usb lead that I made up
[3058.31] Curry: by plugging
[3059.83] Curry: like
[3060.79] Curry: It's one of these connectors like a jst
[3063.67] Curry: Into like a usb connector that I sold one to and I plugged usb into it
[3067.83] Curry: It would work it would turn on usb tethering and then they come out of setup and then usb tethering would turn itself back off
[3073.91] Curry: Because it would decide that it's like this this usb leads to
[3077.67] Curry: So I have to learn
[3079.35] Curry: Have have the cable between the usb lead and the oaken board this long
[3084.47] Curry: So there can't be any possible loss and then that's okay
[3087.75] Curry: So that's ready to go. I just have to take it to the field and not crash it into a bush this time
[3093.83] Curry: What about tricopters you whore?
[3096.79] Curry: Uh, the tricopter I flew last time has been taken apart
[3100.87] Curry: So that one's not flying again anytime soon
[3105.72] Curry: If I fly another tricopter, it's probably going to be the case of like I want to get
[3111.32] Curry: I want to take
[3112.76] Curry: David's old
[3114.44] Curry: tricopter lr plans and
[3117.0] Curry: Print out some legs and stuff and make it up
[3119.86] Curry: decently
[3121.64] Stephen: hmm
[3124.61] Stephen: Any plan, uh, how's the seven inch going because you have this this jumbo seven inch that you were gonna put was that the open ipc?
[3132.13] Stephen: Quad the seven inch
[3133.89] Curry: Was that the open hc?
[3135.57] Curry: There was the open
[3137.41] Curry: hd seven inch and then the
[3140.21] Curry: pi zero was
[3142.21] Curry: Going to give me like a quarter of a frame of footage
[3145.33] Curry: And so it's like this is not fly. Well, I can't figure out the problem
[3148.77] Curry: so
[3149.73] Curry: that seven inch has become the
[3152.29] Curry: general
[3153.65] Curry: thing to fly
[3155.89] Curry: random
[3157.25] Curry: um
[3158.29] Curry: Vtx's
[3160.37] Curry: That's the one that got the five five watt vtx
[3163.49] Curry: So that'll go out again see if we can get more range on it because it seemed to have some sort of receiver problem
[3168.61] Curry: Where the the dbi was going really high. It's like minus like 97 at one and a half kilometers and that's not right
[3175.89] Curry: And then when I flew my chimera out that far, it was on 10 milliwatts and minus 80
[3181.41] Stephen: Might it be because you're blasting five watt continuous over like a massive range of frequencies from the vtx
[3188.05] Stephen: It could be that
[3189.73] Curry: But I what I did
[3193.09] Curry: I haven't got the the power on the elrs
[3196.37] Curry: So because i'm using dynamic power and if if I like well if it's not jumping up to one watt
[3201.73] Curry: Then it might be something different
[3204.69] Curry: So but i've got a similar six inch quad that's going to have the open ipc board
[3209.73] Curry: That I looked at last time. I will start building it up
[3213.09] Curry: but the
[3214.53] Curry: The last thing on my list to do is go back to the terrible veto thing
[3219.25] Curry: Which isn't working
[3220.85] Curry: And do the latest round of like, oh, I think you need to do this
[3223.97] Curry: Which is I think I did that like four or five months ago. Um, wow
[3229.33] Stephen: To to say have you done this? Yes, I think i've done it. Are they still not actually developed flyable software on their end yet?
[3235.97] Stephen: That's correct
[3237.49] Stephen: Wow
[3239.73] Jack: Don't mince your words there lads
[3241.73] Curry: It's well, it's basically it's like well, we're using ardupilot and it's well, it looks like ardupilot and it connects to
[3248.13] Curry: Uh q ground station, but when I said
[3251.41] Curry: What version of software should it be flashing because it doesn't know what it is. It's like we're not using ardupilot
[3255.65] Curry: I was like, what are you using me?
[3258.21] Curry: What board the ardupilot project they're like, we've never heard of this. We don't know what that board is
[3263.25] Curry: Yeah, but as well they they gave me a video of their setup
[3266.77] Curry: It's like this is how you do the setup and when you see their video it says this is an it
[3271.97] Curry: I think it said it's a tail sitter
[3274.45] Curry: um
[3275.81] Curry: VTOL wing or something. That's it
[3278.37] Curry: And it had a version my one goes what version are you and what are you running and it just goes
[3283.97] Curry: It just says unknown
[3286.85] Curry: And I was like, okay, what flight modes do you have and it was all like none and I'm like, okay
[3290.93] Curry: I'll change the flight modes. No, that's grayed out. I can't click on anything
[3294.29] Curry: It's like I don't think I can fly this because it won't work with that cole cole's got an ardupilot hat. Wow
[3301.41] Koel: Yeah
[3304.37] Koel: My friend in taiwan who owns a store it's called shung da it translates to fly big basically
[3311.49] Koel: It's called sd model, but it's shung da
[3314.45] Koel: And yeah, he's like here. Here's a hat and it's ardupilot. He's like he loves ardupilot. He runs like all these crazy
[3321.09] Koel: crazy crazy drones off of it and
[3323.97] Koel: But I just figured i'd go grab that it was kind of kind of funny. Nice
[3329.09] Curry: It's okay because you should just write not ardupilot on the front of it because this is what we're running apparently
[3335.33] Koel: Yeah
[3336.77] Stephen: That's so weird. That's so strange. I just can't wrap my head around these projects where they make a piece of hardware and
[3343.41] Stephen: They seem to think the software that's actually going to
[3346.61] Stephen: Not make it smash itself to bits in the air is like an afterthought and they don't need to worry about it
[3351.73] Stephen: They're like look, there's the physical thing. You can make it work, right?
[3355.25] Stephen: And everyone else is like what are you talking about? What the hell is that?
[3360.21] Curry: I think i've told you guys that the lack of any useful if I remember sending the wiring to jack
[3366.37] Curry: Because I said jack look at these wires. You see the colors of them. I was like, they're not what you think
[3372.13] Curry: It's like oh my god
[3373.89] Curry: They said the wires are random. So it's like
[3377.49] Curry: red might be
[3379.65] Curry: um
[3380.93] Curry: ground
[3383.25] Curry: Let's have white as 12 volts and then we'll have green as I don't know ground
[3390.13] Curry: And then every single different
[3392.61] Curry: Um connection you've got is a different set of wires
[3395.97] Curry: And which they did not supply a wiring diagram for so you don't actually know what's what and you can't trust the wires
[3402.05] Stephen: What are you saying? You don't have a multimeter curry. Come on
[3405.33] Curry: You're a tester. I mean reveal it
[3407.97] Curry: I mean developer all of the above
[3410.85] Curry: Right. I think about what I thought it was and then sent that to them and said is this right and then they sent it back
[3417.09] Curry: to say yes
[3420.21] Curry: I had this one this one cable again
[3422.45] Curry: I sent a picture to jack and you've got these two cables for the same connection
[3427.17] Curry: And it's like it's like a six pin of this with like four pins connected and one of them
[3433.09] Curry: Is on one side and the yellow cable is for the other side
[3437.25] Curry: And it's for the same connector and you're like
[3440.61] Curry: Well, which is this and you can't trust any of the colors
[3443.65] Curry: Nothing's length. It is 25 volts
[3447.57] Jack: Oh, oh my god, I mean there there is a
[3452.45] Jack: Hang on
[3453.65] Jack: I have to I have to show you this
[3456.77] Curry: Oh this was my fault ground. Yeah, that's how I do it
[3461.17] Curry: Yeah, this this this was my attempt at trying to figure out what it was based on other things they said and other connectors I had
[3469.33] Curry: Nice and I was kind of right for most of it
[3473.49] Curry: But not some of it
[3475.49] Curry: So we had to correct that
[3477.49] Curry: That that is that was right. Actually the ground five volt five volt five volt ground
[3481.73] Curry: I was like why?
[3483.17] Curry: I don't know
[3485.65] Stephen: A callous disregard for the users and the community I think is the only answer to that
[3490.29] Stephen: yeah
[3492.53] Stephen: A lot of people would recommend putting uh a power wire directly next to a signal wire like s bus
[3498.45] Stephen: But if you put three of them next to it
[3501.09] Stephen: It cancels out. It's fine
[3504.21] Frank: Fairness, I think was there were some pins going spare. So we thought oh, we will just add more power to the board
[3509.25] Frank: Now we've had a more power
[3513.89] Curry: Yeah, oh it'd be interesting
[3515.97] Curry: Either it'll fly or it'll crash horrendously and burst into flames. Either way, it'll be amusing maybe
[3523.33] Curry: Fun who knows this will just like hover there and refuse to land
[3528.29] Stephen: I see it tonia. We're just jumping up for it and stuff. They pay a software developer like a week
[3534.21] Stephen: and
[3535.33] Stephen: done it sensibly
[3536.69] Stephen: they could have had a
[3538.05] Stephen: Working on your pilot model i'm sure and then they could have been selling this thing
[3542.37] Stephen: Like six months ago and actually gotten it in the market and have people talking about it
[3547.65] Curry: Maybe they wouldn't want to maybe they just want people to pay the five grand for when you get your special little
[3552.93] Curry: Radio that's got a screen built in which works because they've managed to cobble it together and somehow works on this setup
[3559.49] Curry: And upgrade anything
[3563.49] Stephen: Don't encourage karl
[3567.41] Stephen: Well good luck it sounds fascinating I can see you ending up
[3571.25] Stephen: Properly flashing some a totally different variety of software probably when when I now for beta flight eventually introduce vetoes
[3578.45] Stephen: You'll be able to use it. But until then
[3581.49] Frank: It's gonna sit on a wall somewhere i'm still stuck on the fact that
[3586.29] Curry: As far as we know, we can't add an osd because even though if you go to ardu pilot, it's like, oh, yeah
[3592.85] Curry: absolutely, you can use the
[3595.65] Curry: The the type of osd that you'd use on walk snail or
[3599.89] Curry: Digi
[3601.09] Curry: Displayport stuff and that's in there. They this is when they said this is not ardu pilot
[3605.89] Curry: It won't work like that. I was like are you saying you haven't you've got all these output ports?
[3610.53] Curry: You're saying I can't use one of them to chuck the right telemetry out to this and they're like, no
[3616.13] Curry: So i'm like i've got a plane here that flies
[3619.09] Curry: But I won't have any osd
[3621.33] Curry: How do I know what's going on? It seems
[3624.77] Stephen: Like they haven't really been that experimental. The only answer is to like use open ipc and mavlink your your osd
[3632.45] Stephen: And the problem is it's got loads of mavlink. It just doesn't do anything with it
[3637.57] Stephen: Yeah, fun fun fun
[3639.81] Stephen: We shall see it sounds like a fascinating little puzzle something to do over winter
[3644.85] Stephen: When the rain comes comes in and you can be like what the heck is this? Yeah
[3650.93] Stephen: You should see
[3653.54] Jack: No worries. That is unfortunately all we have time for
[3657.94] Jack: You've been listening to let's show now
[3661.06] Jack: We are sponsored by our lovely patreons. Thank you very much. Thank you
[3665.86] Jack: We thank you really appreciate the support
[3669.14] Jack: And uh keeps the show on the road keeps frank from strangling us individually one by one
[3677.14] Stephen: Yeah, as soon as he gets enough money in the patreon account to get a taxi around all our houses though it's game over
[3683.78] Koel: He's gonna need a really good taxi to get over to me
[3687.62] Stephen: It's taking him a while
[3689.62] Stephen: Eyes on the prize frag eyes on the prize
[3692.18] Frank: And we're on the road for 10 years
[3694.74] Frank: Still tony's kayak
[3698.66] Stephen: Preering coats murder fire. That's a nice modern engine feature presentation with frank
[3706.74] Jack: Um, you'd be joined by everyone's favorite curry kitten good night
[3712.82] Jack: Uh our lord of master andrew size frank. Bye
[3718.26] Jack: At the moment with star steven my darling my tony
[3726.93] Jack: My buddy cole
[3729.01] Jack: See you
[3730.29] Jack: Hello, we brought to the fly. You've been listening to this show now. Join us again next week. Tune in like subscribe comment
[3737.97] Jack: Yeah, send this podcast to your least favorite fpv, mate
[3743.33] Jack: And punish them for a gig good night
[3746.29] Jack: Bye
[3747.33] Jack: Why telemetry loss
