[13.0] Jack: Massive thank you to… [14.4] Jack: Carlos Campos! [16.0] Jack: Art Faulkner. [17.84] Frank: Sam Dahmer. [19.68] Frank: On with the show. [20.68] Jack: Hello and welcome back to another episode of Let's Drone Out. [57.86] Jack: Tonight we are joined by everyone's favourite coke-in. [61.3] Jack: Hello. [62.3] Jack: Our Lord of Master Andrew slash Frank. [66.02] Jack: Hello. [67.02] Jack: The man who said B.R. Pelly's going to die AM32 for the win called it Stephen. [75.58] Jack: Cheers. [76.58] Jack: All right. [78.58] Jack: And by Buddy Cole, probably the only one who's done some flying. [81.98] Jack: Darn it! [82.98] Jack: Because he doesn't live here. [84.98] Curry: Not true. [86.1] Curry: Not true. [87.1] Curry: I managed to get out as well. [88.1] Stephen: You've got your own fields, which apparently is mud free, or you just don't mind getting [93.82] Stephen: things muddy. [94.82] Stephen: It's very squishy around here. [96.3] Stephen: Well, it was quite wet. [98.58] Curry: And friends free. [99.58] Curry: Yes. [100.58] Curry: No one was invited to come with me. [102.58] Curry: Not as allowed as a special curry field. [105.1] Curry: A special field. [106.1] Curry: Don't I, Field? [107.1] Jack: And what did you fly? [109.58] Curry: Well, it's what I didn't fly as well. [112.66] Curry: I took the wing out again that I explained I had the problem with last time, where it [116.94] Curry: decided it was going to delete the configuration completely and put the configuration back. [123.82] Curry: This time, after I set everything up, I had two problems. [127.34] Curry: First off, it looks like it was ready to arm. [131.02] Curry: Still working. [132.02] Curry: The server still moved and it said, pitch and roll, not zero. [137.14] Curry: I was like, what? [138.14] Curry: What are you talking about? [140.06] Curry: No one's touching the joystick, it's fine. [143.22] Curry: I couldn't make it work and it decided it wasn't going to arm, so I was like, oh, that's [147.06] Curry: annoying. [148.06] Curry: And also, the HDMI into my goggles was a bit dodgy, hit and miss. [151.86] Curry: I put them on and it's sort of like, oh, that's nice, and it suddenly went completely green. [155.18] Curry: I was like, oh, twiddle, twiddle, twiddle, and it's OK again, leading me to slightly [159.38] Curry: rant about why is HDMI so crap when you plug it in and hang it down. [165.94] Curry: I also flew my 7-inch quad to try going a little bit more distance, which was interesting [173.26] Curry: because I learned something about Express LRS and if you use dynamic power, how that [180.02] Curry: works and exactly how much space you've got if you start getting worried. [186.22] Curry: Because firstly for me, I was like, oh, it's at minus 95 dBm. [190.9] Curry: That's quite high. [191.9] Curry: I don't like that. [192.9] Curry: I want to turn around. [193.9] Curry: But that's not necessarily the case. [195.42] Curry: And I was confused because I was going out to about a kilometre and a half and I was [200.26] Curry: on 868 dynamic power and it's on 10 milliwatts. [204.18] Curry: And it gets to minus 97 and I'm like, oh, this makes me nervous. [207.82] Curry: And I turn around and come back and then set it on normal power and go to what I thought [212.74] Curry: was 3K, which was actually 2.85K because I was looking at the wrong display. [217.1] Curry: But then that was OK because I wasn't on dynamic power. [220.02] Curry: So I did some checking into this and I found several interesting things. [225.46] Curry: The first is about exactly how far you should be able to go before you actually start to [232.06] Curry: panic about your dBm value and the fact that it's like on a logarithmic scale. [238.74] Curry: So OK, so you could go in theory, where I fly, I could go to minus 112 before it fails [246.46] Curry: and you can say, OK, let's be safe. [248.42] Curry: Let's call it 102 to save 10. [252.1] Curry: But I saw some footage and it's like some guy went to like 3.5K and it's at minus 100. [261.14] Curry: And when he got to 5.5K, it was still at 100. [264.82] Curry: As only when he went to minus six that he got to like minus 102 or something. [269.06] Curry: It's like, ah, I'm being overly conservative about my power here. [273.98] Curry: And because the power works on a signal to noise ratio about when it ups to power, it's [280.1] Curry: not necessarily set about how bad your RSI value is. [284.94] Curry: So basically, you just suck it up and carry on and see what happens is the best way of [289.42] Curry: doing it. [290.42] Curry: If it does get like minus 100 and finally say it's like, OK, this is bad. [294.46] Curry: Let's turn around because on that turn around, it's probably going to get worse. [298.18] Curry: But yeah, I thought it was quite interesting. [300.34] Curry: And the fact you can go like 2K extra and your signal doesn't degrade any further because [306.1] Curry: the way that the scale of the RSI works, I thought that's interesting. [310.7] Curry: So that was an interesting learning experience for me. [313.1] Stephen: That does sound interesting. [315.1] Stephen: Yeah. [316.1] Stephen: Because I've only ever used the link quality and I just put the power at wherever I'm going [322.54] Stephen: to put the power at dynamic or otherwise. [324.86] Stephen: And I just wait till the link quality goes down below 60 and then stop worrying. [330.14] Stephen: If LQ is over 60, basically, OK. [333.62] Curry: If I'm freestyling, I'm blanking the LQ above 90, but otherwise, you know. [338.02] Curry: It's interesting, isn't it? [339.02] Curry: Because they're telling me different things, which I think is always useful to have both. [342.86] Curry: Of course, you could have an amazing quality signal if you look at the DVM RSI, but a terrible [350.22] Curry: link quality because some things like blasted out your packet and you've like lost a bunch [355.54] Curry: of them. [356.54] Curry: And similarly, you could be way out and like minus 100 and something and still have like [360.26] Curry: 100 link quality because all the packets are getting through, just albeit at the end of [365.22] Curry: what they can actually do. [366.5] Curry: So using a combination of them to look at what's going on is quite handy. [370.82] Curry: So it's like, yeah, I'm going to I'm going to try and be braver. [373.78] Curry: It's my old crappy seven inch. [376.22] Curry: If it went down over the sea, I'll be more upset about losing one of my four thousand [381.06] Curry: million power successes rather than the call itself. [384.06] Curry: So it's no big deal. [385.06] Curry: So it's quite quite a useful thing to test with. [389.06] Koel: Well, that's very it's interesting that you say that because like I've never seen my link [394.22] Koel: quality ever go down below like like below the 90s. [400.14] Koel: Like I've always been. [401.14] Koel: I've never seen it anything below the 90s other than maybe. [406.18] Koel: I don't know. [407.18] Koel: Like I don't know if it's if it's an E.L. or because you're using E.L.R.S., right? [412.42] Koel: And I don't know if it matters, whether it's one platform or the other. [415.78] Koel: But yeah, I've only I've only actually seen it maybe go around the 90s or 80s at worst. [423.26] Koel: But it is kind of interesting to know how the DBM plays a role because I've only ever [429.82] Koel: used link quality. [430.82] Koel: So it's like, OK, if it says around 100 or 98, 97, I know I'm good. [437.02] Koel: So I've never actually really I've never had any worries about link quality. [440.38] Koel: But yeah, it's it is weird that when you're looking at the DBM RSSI, it's like after a [447.22] Koel: certain range, it's not actually getting worse, like you said. [450.46] Curry: So it's yeah, oh, it's getting worse, but very, very slowly. [454.94] Stephen: You can be in quality starts to go down. [457.34] Stephen: That's just like depending on the power setting. [459.98] Stephen: So if you're flying just say 25 milliwatt, you go behind something unless you're on 900 [466.26] Stephen: megahertz, it's going to start going down. [469.86] Stephen: It's just a question of how low can the link quality go before you start to feel you can't [474.38] Stephen: control the craft. [475.38] Koel: Really, what I kind of picked up from people and what I've learned is that like for anything [480.26] Koel: with like long range or like like medium range or seven inch ish type flying where you're [485.1] Koel: kind of sending it out, like dynamic isn't exactly favorable in a way, because like, [491.86] Stephen: I mean, maybe it is, maybe it isn't like I've heard you need to avoid excessive battery [496.9] Stephen: drain on the radio. [498.18] Koel: That's exactly. [499.18] Koel: Yeah, yeah. [500.18] Koel: Because for freestyle stuff like close range type of thing, I'll check it on dynamic and [505.26] Koel: have like a, you know, maybe 100 milliwatt or something, output power, and I don't think [510.46] Koel: about it. [511.46] Koel: But if it's like something that I'm going to maybe send out, I'm like, I'm going to [514.82] Koel: put it on a reasonably good power level and just leave it there. [519.22] Koel: But you are right. [520.7] Koel: It definitely does suck the battery of the radio. [525.18] Stephen: Absolutely stomps on it. [526.18] Stephen: Like, especially my little tea light, that thing, yeah, should be able to do 250 milliwatt, [531.3] Stephen: but you put it on 250 milliwatt and it just starts bleeding out battery warnings. [535.46] Stephen: So I put it on dynamic power and like, you know, if I'm flying behind something, I don't [540.74] Stephen: want this to like fall into a muddy puddle. [542.66] Stephen: Yeah. [543.66] Stephen: Bump into 250 milliwatt. [544.66] Koel: That's a big boy. [545.66] Koel: Yeah. [546.66] Koel: There was a 6200. [547.66] Koel: Yeah. [548.66] Curry: 6200. [549.66] Curry: Yeah. [550.66] Curry: That's pretty good. [551.66] Curry: That's the main reason that I, this is my main radio now is like, yeah, that's not gonna [555.46] Curry: stay. [556.46] Curry: So yeah, when I put it on manual, I put like, okay, let's not mess around. [561.3] Curry: Let's put the radio on one watt. [562.9] Curry: Let's put the VTX on five watts and see what happens. [566.22] Jack: Yeah. [567.22] Curry: Then you have nothing to worry about. [569.22] Curry: Nothing to worry about other than windy people on YouTube telling me how much I'm upsetting. [576.98] Curry: You're ruining the hobby curry. [582.5] Jack: You're ruining it. [583.5] Jack: I love that comment. [584.5] Curry: If you know, they said I was ruining mesh networks everywhere in the world. [588.5] Curry: It's like other LoRa networks that happen to work over this that are ruined. [594.02] Curry: I was like, Oh, well, if you're going to see networks up in the middle of the field or [598.62] Curry: over the city, then that's your problem. [600.9] Curry: Yeah. [601.9] Stephen: She can't win, can you? [604.74] Stephen: She can't win. [606.54] Jack: I think my favorite was if you think that was illegal, you should have seen what your [610.06] Jack: mum did last night. [614.06] Curry: I like it when if someone leaves a nasty comment before I get to reply, other, other viewers [618.68] Curry: decide to reply on my behalf and make it even funnier than I could. [621.58] Curry: So that's, that's the best plan. [624.02] Jack: Yeah. [625.18] Jack: I'm quite the fan of your, your comment section now. [630.06] Jack: I kind of come for the comments first and then the content. [634.7] Curry: Someone left a comment after your one. [636.98] Curry: What Jack does now, if he leaves a comment, he says, I watched this just to let me know [642.02] Curry: that he's, he's bravely watched a video. [644.82] Curry: And then I think someone right under your one gold star or something, well, someone [652.22] Jack: wrote Disneyland as if I was like some sort of special needs, like, you know, I get kind [657.1] Jack: of day triples on it. [658.7] Jack: I think that was my favorite. [661.1] UNKNOWN: Yeah. [662.1] UNKNOWN: Thanks for that. [663.1] UNKNOWN: Charming. [664.1] Jack: No, no. [665.1] Jack: Live in the comments section. [666.1] Curry: In theory, it should be dry tomorrow, so I might try the wing for the bird's tent. [676.26] Curry: What it was when I got home, actually, when I was flying the quad, I was like, oh, this [680.98] Curry: quad keeps falling backwards. [683.38] Curry: And somehow one of these screws had come slightly undone. [686.74] Curry: And I had this little bit of wiggle here. [689.42] Curry: So what would happen is this would drop down just like a millimeter. [693.18] Curry: And so the quad would slightly go backwards. [695.5] Curry: So what it was, that wing was complaining that this had dropped down. [699.18] Curry: Basically I'm like, I can't arm, you've got your finger on the stick. [702.42] Curry: So all I need to do is tighten that up and now the wing arm. [704.98] Curry: So I ordered a new HDMI cable to try and fix that problem. [708.82] Curry: So maybe I take the wing out, bird attempt at flying it. [714.22] Jack: Mine's got erectile dysfunction. [717.1] Jack: I don't know whether you can see that, but I raise it up. [722.58] Jack: And as you can see, it's slowly, like my female goes down. [729.02] Stephen: That's the throttle. [730.02] Stephen: I mean, you can put a spring on it if you absolutely need to. [733.5] Curry: That's one of these screws for the tension on the throttle. [737.22] Curry: I can't remember which one. [738.34] Curry: I think maybe that one. [739.34] Stephen: Yeah, there's a little screw on the back that literally presses a strip of metal against [743.14] Stephen: the gimbal. [744.14] Koel: Thank you. [745.14] Koel: The little thin thing to, yep. [748.54] Koel: I actually like having a bit of resistance on my throttle. [751.82] Koel: I don't like it to just like flop about. [753.94] Koel: I like to, to be more, like sometimes you want it to almost just sit in a spot where [759.5] Koel: you can take your hand off and it's not going to just... [761.38] Curry: Oh yeah. [762.38] Curry: For me, it needs to sit in a spot, but be able to work it nice. [765.9] Curry: It's a very sweet spot, the throttle thing. [767.62] Curry: It needs to sit where it wants it to, but it can't be too tight or too loose. [772.22] Curry: It's the golden locks showing off the throttle. [774.82] Koel: Totally. [775.82] Koel: Totally. [776.82] Koel: Yeah, I was, I was dicking around with that for a while because there was a point in time [780.46] Koel: where my throttle, like after like maybe like the first year and a half, two years of my [783.78] Koel: radio, like it was getting a little loose, so I had to figure out how to like take my [787.06] Koel: radio apart, go in, like tighten up the, whatever the tension thing on it was. [792.78] Koel: And yeah, it's like, oh, you do it too far. [796.22] Koel: And then now you get that like ratcheted feel and then it's like you, you take it off [801.22] Koel: a little bit. [802.22] Koel: Okay. [803.22] Koel: Oh, now it's too loose. [804.22] Koel: Now it's too tight. [805.22] Koel: You have to find that, that sweet spot. [806.74] Curry: That's it. [807.74] Curry: Can I, can I also complain? [809.46] Curry: I've got another complaint to make. [810.9] Curry: Where'd it go? [812.26] Curry: Fire away. [813.26] Curry: What have I done now? [816.26] Curry: What's Jack done? [817.26] Jack: Fire away. [818.26] Stephen: I am. [819.26] Stephen: Explain that excruciating detail. [821.14] Curry: I'm complaining. [822.14] Curry: I'm exactly where we're wrong. [823.14] Curry: How long I have spent on this stupid quad. [827.02] Curry: If you look at this big bundle of crap and wires there, this is the run cam wifi link, [832.34] Curry: which we've managed to stick in a quad. [834.26] Curry: I think I put this together on Monday and then it didn't work like no picture. [841.06] Curry: And I found three issues eventually with this thing. [847.26] Curry: Like the first one was the cable that connected the wifi board to the camera board would sometimes [854.14] Curry: have a dodgy connection. [855.9] Curry: Not always. [856.9] Curry: Sometimes. [857.9] Curry: So I cut that off and soldered it on. [860.5] Curry: And then it's like, oh, that's weird. [861.9] Curry: It's still not quite working. [863.14] Curry: Why is that? [864.74] Curry: And then I kind of figured out that it sounded like occasionally like the fan would just [869.94] Curry: flicker and go up again. [873.22] Curry: And although this is supposed to work from nine to 30 volts, I was running it from a [877.26] Curry: 10 volt back on the board, which successfully runs like a WalkSnail system, was just not [886.46] Curry: providing enough power for some reason. [888.62] Curry: So then I had to wire that up directly off the 6S input and that kind of fixed that thing. [897.62] Curry: And then the other problem I had is you see at the back here, you've got the wires kind [902.42] Curry: of sticking out. [904.18] Curry: And I found that, hello, little wires. [907.02] Curry: If I tucked them in, it seemed like the two boards, something on it was particularly sensitive [912.1] Curry: to having the wires there. [914.14] Curry: So if that was tucked in, also wouldn't work. [916.7] Curry: So they're now out. [917.7] Curry: And I started this on Monday, it's now Thursday, and it's now ready to fly. [922.38] Curry: And I spent an awful lot of time being very annoyed and SSHing to it saying, well, why [928.46] Curry: is wifi broadcast not working? [930.98] Curry: And why is it detected the network card? [933.78] Curry: It's not working. [934.78] Stephen: It sounds like you've got a bird that's going to work perfectly on the bench, but it's going [938.78] Stephen: to absolutely guarantee to fail the instant you walk outside with it. [943.1] Curry: Yeah, the chance of it actually flying now is slim to none. [947.1] Curry: But I have to, I haven't made myself a proper adapter to plug it into my goggles yet. [952.7] Curry: I have to do that at some point. [954.9] Stephen: Yeah, it sounds like if anything, your wiring setup hasn't gotten cleaner, but it's gotten [959.54] Stephen: more complex. [960.54] Stephen: The longer this project's gone on, instead of it being condensed, you've actually just [964.26] Stephen: attached more and more stuff to open IPC. [967.3] Curry: Yes, what I wanted to do is use the iMacs stuff, but I thought, oh, well, I've got the [973.38] Curry: run camp thing. [974.38] Curry: I can't really just ignore that and go on to the iMacs. [976.78] Curry: I'll have to set this up in a quad first. [979.62] Curry: And then that took a week. [981.22] Curry: So that's kind of annoying. [982.82] Curry: So that's a bit of a waste of time. [984.86] Jack: Yeah, it's always the way though. [988.3] Jack: Sometimes you just throw a quad together to test stuff. [992.22] Jack: And you're in the situation you're in where the quad fails and lets you down and you can't [999.62] Jack: test the new bit of equipment or you throw any old shit together because your board doesn't [1007.02] Jack: work or thought, you know what, they see if these bits actually work that have been like [1013.34] Jack: sat around for months and have been used as a coaster and a door stop and, you know, [1018.86] Jack: the dog's chewing on them. [1021.06] Jack: Yeah. [1022.06] Jack: And it's the best flying quad in the world. [1025.22] Jack: And you're just like, why do I bother? [1027.66] Jack: It goes two ways. [1029.26] Jack: That's it. [1030.26] Curry: Yeah. [1031.26] Curry: Well, just to speak to Mario, you'll be yourself today about the OSD thing using MSP. [1040.9] Curry: And he says that is in the code base. [1042.42] Curry: Yeah. [1043.42] Curry: If we update it and then use beta flight 451, then we can use that. [1047.62] Curry: And I said, I'm not going to do this on my maiden because it's already probably not going [1052.26] Curry: to work. [1053.26] Curry: So let's see if it flies. [1054.26] Curry: And if that works, then I will update the board and see if we can make the MSP OSD work. [1059.82] Curry: Because at the moment, I won't have an OSD. [1062.1] Stephen: I've always got MSP VTX as well. [1064.14] Stephen: So you can use like MSP to switch VTX channels. [1068.74] Stephen: So you should be able to use like HTX to change the VTX channels as well as the goggle [1073.5] Stephen: menu. [1074.5] Curry: That's quite nifty. [1075.5] Curry: Yeah. [1076.5] Curry: I saw they were looking at doing stuff so you could mess with camera settings as well [1079.58] Curry: there. [1080.74] Curry: And something about being able to like scan using some little button on a Redex. [1086.86] Stephen: They really need a backpack. [1087.86] Stephen: An ESP32 backpack could be so much smaller than that box with all the buttons on and [1093.1] Stephen: it would just work. [1094.1] Stephen: Because there's so many channels in that setup, aren't there? [1097.22] Stephen: There's like 50 channels with Wi-Fi. [1099.66] Curry: Yeah, there's a lot. [1102.9] Curry: It's like most of the cards we use work on both 2.4 and 5.8. [1107.74] Curry: So you've got all the channels. [1108.74] Curry: So what channel would you like? [1111.74] Jack: Two bands, all the channels. [1114.7] Jack: Yeah. [1115.7] Stephen: Yeah, if they had an ESP backpack like E LRS does, put one of those in the goggles adapter [1124.94] Stephen: and put one, you know, you've probably got one in your radio, then you could just switch [1129.02] Stephen: everything in unison. [1130.02] Stephen: That would be lovely. [1131.86] Jack: I still can't get my backpack to work on my rapid fire at all and I don't know why. [1139.42] Jack: It's probably me, but yeah. [1144.14] Curry: We're saying probably. [1145.14] Curry: Do you follow the instructions in my very informative tutorial video? [1149.26] Jack: Yeah, I think so. [1154.26] Stephen: What a long time ago. [1157.26] Stephen: Yeah, I just swapped over the module in my Skyzones and that worked. [1165.26] Jack: TBS Fusion have now released an update for the backpack. [1173.86] Jack: So if you've got a TBS Fusion and it's got all the new hardware in it, it now supports [1178.98] Jack: backpack. [1179.98] Stephen: They do like overlay and stuff in TBS Fusion now, don't they? [1183.3] Stephen: They've gone to town and they do all sorts of like data overlay on the analog OSD on [1190.14] Stephen: the goggles. [1191.14] Koel: Yeah, I use the Fusion and I have like the RSSI bar that sits on the top, which, it's [1200.18] Koel: not RSSI, but it's like overlay and stuff in TBS Fusion. [1204.62] Koel: It's not RSSI, it is the diversity, I guess. [1208.54] Stephen: Yeah, yeah. [1209.54] Stephen: So the rapid fire has now, but Fusion was actually overlaying data from the goggles onto [1216.46] Stephen: the module somehow. [1217.46] Stephen: They had this thing where if you didn't have a flight controller, you could get some stats. [1222.42] Stephen: I can't remember because I don't know what it was, but there was some fancy stuff going [1225.18] Stephen: on there. [1226.18] Jack: I didn't know that. [1227.18] Koel: Yeah, I actually haven't created my Fusion since I got it, basically. [1232.42] Jack: Embarrassingly enough, last night, I found out that I still had my goggles in legacy [1237.22] Jack: mode on the rapid fire, so I haven't been using rapid fire for quite some time. [1243.3] Jack: Oh, no way. [1245.3] Curry: Shame would it? [1248.3] Curry: I'd get Tevin to move mine out of rapid fire because if you've had the situation where [1253.58] Curry: rapid fire throws a wobbly, when you've got the roll, like, oh my God, I can't deal with [1258.98] Curry: the fact that the landscape's going past me like this. [1262.42] Curry: It's like 10 horrific seconds of where you can't determine anything. [1268.34] Curry: And then it goes, beep, and goes back as, oh my God. [1271.66] Stephen: You know what? [1272.66] Stephen: I get asked for large rolling bars, and that's the version of the world I wanted. [1276.82] Koel: Well, that's the thing that kind of bugs me about the rapid fire because I've actually [1281.62] Koel: been having, I had this, right before I went away, there was this issue that I was having [1288.42] Koel: with my Fat Shark HDO goggles, actually. [1292.3] Koel: And I ruled out everything on my quad, actually, sorry, Jack and I ruled out everything on [1299.9] Jack: my quad. [1300.9] Jack: At least give me that, man. [1303.7] Jack: At least. [1304.7] Jack: No. [1305.7] Jack: So we... [1306.7] Jack: And I'll put the fire out. [1307.7] Koel: Well, literally, we deconstructed my drone like three times. [1314.82] Koel: We separated camera, VTX, we separated flight controller, ESC, basically, we just did everything. [1323.62] Koel: We took everything out of the picture, and I was still getting this issue in my goggles. [1329.46] Koel: I swapped modules in the goggles, I ended up getting another set of HDO goggles for [1337.34] Koel: really cheap off some guy on Marketplace, which came with a rapid fire module. [1342.9] Koel: I ended up getting them for like, I think it was like less than 100 bucks or something [1349.66] Koel: like that. [1350.66] Koel: It was insane. [1351.66] Koel: And it was like, basically, I was like, okay, if I'm going to go away, I want to have some [1356.54] Koel: goggles that aren't giving me this weird thing. [1359.78] Koel: So yeah, we determined that there's some weird electrical or some kind of noise thing with [1365.58] Koel: my HDOs. [1366.58] Koel: Because, like I said, we swapped the modules, we narrowed down, it's not the quad. [1373.46] Koel: It's not showing up in the DVR, which is another weird thing. [1377.54] Koel: So it's actually just something happening internally on the goggles with the screens [1382.1] Koel: or whatever is going on with it. [1384.26] Koel: So the other goggles don't do it, none of the receiver modules do it. [1388.22] Koel: But back to what I was saying, I guess, about the rapid fire was, so the new goggles I got [1393.02] Koel: came with a rapid fire module, and I've never used that before. [1395.82] Koel: But all the beeping that happens is so annoying. [1399.62] Koel: When you're flying, you get all this beeping going on, you're like, beeping usually doesn't [1404.1] Koel: mean a good thing, in my mind, other than like the quad is arming or disarming. [1408.66] Koel: But then I'm like, oh, no, it's just like selecting its best whatever. [1413.66] Stephen: But yeah, no, you can't disable the beeping, I think in the menu. [1417.26] Koel: Oh, can you? [1418.26] Jack: He probably needs to update it, which he doesn't like doing. [1421.86] Koel: Yeah, I'm an anti update. [1424.94] Stephen: Yeah, I mean, yeah, I'm on the opposite. [1427.66] Stephen: I just obsessively update anything I get my hands on [1431.86] Stephen: and then deal with the massive amount of fallout that inevitably happens as a result of aggressively [1436.3] Stephen: updating stuff. [1437.74] Jack: Yeah, would you like to have your your little pony pony day? [1443.38] Koel: Oh, what's my pony day? [1446.06] Jack: I don't know whether you've got access to your messages, but I was updating my [1450.82] Jack: my third AM 32 ESC and Facebook messages or messages were Apple people. [1463.06] Koel: Come on. [1464.06] Koel: Oh, messages. [1465.06] Koel: Okay. [1466.06] Koel: Okay. [1467.06] Koel: But messages is Facebook, isn't it? [1468.06] Koel: Or is that message? [1469.06] Koel: Yeah. [1470.06] Jack: Oh, geez. [1471.06] Jack: Sorry to be like me. [1472.06] Koel: So are you talking about the video that you sent me? [1476.34] Jack: Yeah. [1477.46] Jack: So dating in covers like, nah, you know, you can't you can't put be only 32 back on them [1484.02] Jack: like, maybe he's dead. [1486.94] Jack: Like there's no, you know, there's no upgrade path and 32 is only going to get better, hopefully. [1493.98] Jack: And you know, I'm, you know, I might move to the Voltara at last. [1500.58] Jack: For some reason, ESC number three just just wouldn't flash. [1507.3] Jack: Can anyone, can anyone spot the problem? [1510.26] Stephen: It's a lot of solder down there, mate. [1512.86] Jack: Yeah. [1513.86] Jack: There's a little solder bridge from a resistor to an empty pad. [1518.74] Jack: The reason is because of me, couldn't help myself, couldn't help just, you know, I wanted [1529.26] Jack: to touch up those pads. [1532.02] Jack: And yeah, frisky with the pads. [1535.3] Jack: Yeah. [1536.3] Koel: Yeah. [1537.3] Koel: Yeah. [1538.3] Koel: You can just see that blob sitting on the resistor, like the black resistor there. [1542.02] Koel: It's not very happy. [1544.14] Jack: So Cole relished in the fact that he was right. [1551.14] Koel: Yeah. [1552.14] Koel: I'm like, there's no, it has to be like, well, what we learned or what we should know now [1558.1] Koel: is that most of the problems that happen in this hobby are generally our fault. [1563.38] Koel: Jack's. [1564.38] Koel: Jack's fault. [1565.62] Jack: Next t-shirt Frank releases, it just says blame Jack. [1571.86] Stephen: Yeah. [1572.86] Stephen: Yeah. [1573.86] Stephen: It's a struggle. [1574.86] Stephen: I mean, once you even make these kind of updates, I do them a lot, but I do kind of take a deep [1582.62] Stephen: breath when I do them. [1583.62] Stephen: So I know sometimes I'm going to be there for a long haul, you know, this is going to [1587.06] Stephen: be like a lot of sweating and swearing. [1589.9] Stephen: And I'm just going to wish that I'd never started whatever it was I'm sure I, I, I've [1598.46] Jack: now taken to crossing my fingers before it's in the flash, but that's not necessarily a [1606.66] Koel: bad thing, but you know what, like you get that, you get to internally look at yourself. [1614.28] Koel: You get to, you know, internalize choices. [1617.8] Koel: Yeah. [1618.8] Koel: Yeah. [1619.8] Koel: But, but then sometimes things work out and you're like, this is cool, man. [1624.84] Koel: This is exactly why I'm doing this stuff. [1627.12] Stephen: Yeah. [1628.12] Stephen: And sometimes you enable that one cool feature that just makes your life so much easier. [1632.12] Stephen: I know. [1633.12] Stephen: Yeah. [1634.12] Jack: It's welcome. [1635.12] Jack: Like stick overlay. [1636.52] Jack: When you're trying to run, this doesn't work properly. [1642.68] Jack: That was my one free swear. [1644.44] Jack: Sorry, editor. [1645.44] Jack: Ah, speaking of which. [1647.44] Jack: Grounded. [1648.44] Jack: Dance. [1649.44] Jack: Dance cap. [1650.44] Jack: Remind me at the end of the show, there was a email about, um, Patreon. [1655.4] Jack: Oh. [1656.4] Jack: Yeah. [1657.4] Jack: How, uh, yeah. [1658.4] Jack: So yeah. [1659.4] Stephen: Has anyone seen orders for, for the latest Tony dung gap? [1663.12] Stephen: Yeah. [1664.12] Frank: Have you discussed anything, Frank? [1667.28] Frank: There was at least one order, but I suspect that was used. [1670.96] Frank: Yeah. [1671.96] Jack: Yeah. [1672.96] Jack: Yeah. [1673.96] Stephen: I'll put, you know, our audience to, you know, buy stupid Christmas gifts, obviously. [1681.4] Koel: Yeah. [1682.4] Koel: And where can we find these stupid Christmas gifts, everyone, uh, let's throw it out.com. [1688.24] Frank: There's a shop. [1689.24] Stephen: Yeah. [1690.24] Stephen: There's a link from let's throw it out.com and you can find all manner of Christmas gifts [1694.92] Stephen: suitable for the whole family. [1698.0] Frank: If you want, if you like the logo, but don't like the product that it's on, you can go [1702.64] Frank: to the listing and there's a customized button at the top and you can pick out of like hundreds [1708.24] Frank: of different t-shirts and hoodies and dog bandanas and individual socks, individual socks, [1715.56] Frank: but anything, anything you can imagine, there'll probably be something in some gold color. [1721.68] Frank: Fantastic. [1722.68] Jack: I might, depending on how this month goes, pick up a Tony Dunn Gatwick mug. [1732.52] Frank: This episode was recorded in front of a live online audience, downloaded and edited to [1736.64] Frank: make sense when it's played audio only, censored to please the iTunes people, hosted on the [1741.48] Frank: internet, forwarded through to your podcast provider, downloaded, playing on your device [1745.68] Frank: and is now playing in your ears. [1747.6] Frank: All thanks to our Patreons. [1750.0] Frank: Thanks for joining them and you'll also get other online benefits. [1753.28] Frank: Find out more at patreon.com forward slash let's drone out. [1757.52] Jack: Clive, what ESC do I need to, what am I doing to that ESC? [1763.08] Jack: I can't remember, it's so long ago, I've completely forgotten. [1766.64] Jack: It's a half conversation, totally forgotten. [1772.92] Jack: Cole, you've been doing incredible things. [1779.16] Jack: I don't know how much you're willing to talk about it, but I hope you enjoyed that 49 gram [1787.36] Jack: mini alien. [1788.36] Jack: No, Apex, I sent you. [1791.36] Koel: That was a very sweet drone. [1794.36] Koel: Thanks for sending me that with the Naked GoPro. [1796.36] Koel: Yeah. [1797.36] Koel: Amazing man. [1798.36] Jack: Yeah. [1799.36] Jack: I think you've lost it. [1801.36] Koel: Yeah, I am sorry about that. [1804.84] Koel: I did plan on getting it back to you, at least in partial pieces, but yeah, she gone. [1812.32] Koel: But yeah, no, dude, I took a little trip and I did a little flying and I had a lot of fun [1820.04] Koel: actually. [1821.04] Koel: Let me see if I can pull up a little some something. [1827.08] Koel: Let's see. [1828.08] Curry: I didn't hear about the lost stuff. [1829.8] Curry: I was looking at the videos you were sending in our group chat. [1834.04] Curry: I didn't know something went missing. [1836.44] Koel: Yeah, it was it was a very unfortunate mishap, believe it or not, but he did find an SD card [1846.84] Jack: that you will see footage belongs to the owner of the SD card, but it makes for interesting [1854.92] Curry: viewing. [1855.92] Curry: It would be suspicious if it flashes up Koala FPV on this unknown SD card. [1862.32] Jack: If you do happen to recognize it, please email I'mNotTheFAA at legstrownout.com. [1872.4] Koel: You can see this, right? [1873.4] Jack: It looks a lot like Canada. [1875.68] Koel: Yeah, very Canadian here, yeah. [1879.08] Stephen: I think it's international waters. [1882.36] Stephen: So the hallmarks of international waters, what with the mountains. [1885.68] Jack: How far out you have to be to be an international water? [1889.16] Jack: Is it like six miles or something? [1890.88] Stephen: 14 or something? [1891.88] Jack: I thought it was 12. [1892.88] Jack: Is it 14? [1893.88] Curry: I don't know. [1894.88] Curry: I had 12 in my head as well, but I don't know why. [1898.48] Koel: Well, this was definitely within visual line of sight over water, so I'm fine. [1904.48] Koel: Yeah. [1905.48] Koel: Yeah. [1906.48] Koel: Yeah. [1907.48] Koel: But yeah, I know this was just a little. [1910.48] Jack: I mean, you're flying back to yourself, clearly. [1913.28] Jack: Yeah. [1914.28] Koel: I'm at the top. [1915.92] Koel: I went for a nice hike and I decided to, you know, go up and down and go up and down and [1921.96] Koel: all around. [1922.96] Koel: Nice and smooth. [1926.84] Koel: Very smooth. [1927.84] Koel: Thank you, GoPro. [1930.6] Koel: Naked GoPro. [1931.6] Stephen: You only got naked one, have you? [1934.04] Koel: Yeah. [1935.04] Koel: Well, I did. [1937.04] Koel: Luckily, I was smart and I backed some things up before, after each flight, actually. [1944.84] Stephen: What did it disappear, then? [1947.96] Koel: It actually went into the pits of hell, mainly. [1953.8] Koel: Yeah. [1954.8] Koel: Yeah. [1955.8] Koel: Like, but yeah, so, but yeah, so I did, I did get to do a bit of flying. [1963.44] Koel: I got to do a bit of a bit of fun, but I'll have some more videos and stuff coming out [1969.52] Koel: over the next while and it's going to be pretty sweet. [1973.92] Koel: Can't wait to show you guys. [1977.03] Stephen: Nice. [1978.03] Stephen: So did you lose it as a result of loss of signal? [1980.47] Stephen: Is it anything that GPS would have helped with? [1983.19] Koel: No, it was just, honestly, me being stupid. [1986.43] Koel: It was like, well, not being stupid, but, you know, flying analog video and not seeing [1992.27] Koel: a branch. [1993.27] Stephen: Yeah. [1994.27] Stephen: Let's see. [1995.27] Stephen: Yeah. [1996.27] Stephen: That's the worst. [1997.27] Koel: That's the worst. [1998.27] Koel: Yeah. [2000.27] Koel: One quad down so far in this, this journey of mine and it's not too bad. [2007.51] Koel: Yeah, I'll take it. [2008.51] Frank: Oh, you literally. [2009.51] Koel: Yeah. [2010.51] Koel: And the number one rule I have learned is if you're going to send out a drone and you [2017.03] Koel: don't have GPS rescue set up, back it up every time it gets home, back up the footage every [2022.79] Koel: time it gets back to you. [2024.67] Stephen: 100%. [2025.67] Koel: Yeah. [2027.47] Jack: So, yeah, it got to a point where I was friends with Tony that I stock unused SD cards, just [2041.63] Jack: throw them at him like I never even requested stuff. [2045.43] Koel: It's like fly a pack new SD card, fly a pack new SD card. [2050.35] Jack: Yeah. [2051.35] Koel: Well, that was the one and only thing when I was in Taiwan, actually, it was like I would [2055.35] Koel: send it out and then, okay, I'd come back in and I only had two batteries. [2060.75] Koel: So like, basically, I'd, okay, that battery's done. [2063.99] Koel: Leave it for a little bit. [2064.99] Koel: Chuck it back on the charger. [2066.19] Koel: But after every flight, make sure I have my laptop with the hard drive. [2070.15] Koel: Okay. [2071.15] Koel: Plug in the SD card. [2072.15] Koel: Do the backup. [2073.15] Koel: Take the SD card back out. [2074.15] Koel: Put it back in the GoPro. [2075.15] Koel: Okay. [2076.15] Koel: Now I can go fly again and rinse and repeat every time. [2079.35] Jack: There must be some sort of like Linux pie distro where you've got like a Linux pie and [2087.15] Jack: you just plug in an SD card and it just all the crap off you. [2091.83] Stephen: Yeah. [2092.83] Stephen: Just takes it. [2093.83] Stephen: Yeah. [2094.83] Stephen: You could do that with a UW rule. [2095.83] Stephen: You have a UW rule, like whenever it sees a device attached, it triggers a sync operation. [2100.99] Jack: That's cool. [2101.99] Jack: We make that product, Steven. [2102.99] Stephen: I would love that, man. [2106.11] Stephen: We are doing a lot of heavy lifting in that sentence, Jack. [2109.39] Stephen: What can happen is I can point you to some wiki articles and you can make that product [2115.23] Stephen: so it can be. [2116.23] Frank: Well, at least Jack does have some genuine professional experience. [2119.39] Frank: Yeah. [2120.39] Stephen: He's got the following expertise. [2121.79] Stephen: But yeah. [2122.79] Stephen: Yeah. [2123.79] Stephen: Okay. [2124.79] Stephen: We'll make that product, Jack. [2125.79] Stephen: Sorry. [2126.79] Stephen: I'm just on, I'm on a down day. [2127.79] Stephen: I'm sorry. [2128.79] Stephen: Full of negativity. [2129.79] Jack: After everything I put you through, you can just help like Jack **** off. [2134.11] Jack: I'm surprised you showed up and just didn't go, you're a dickhead. [2137.71] Jack: It's been challenging. [2138.71] Stephen: Been challenging. [2139.71] Stephen: I'm sorry. [2140.71] Koel: The FX note says, is there not Wi-Fi on the GoPro? [2144.07] Koel: I mean, there. [2145.07] Koel: Yeah. [2146.07] Koel: We don't talk about that. [2147.07] Stephen: It is dog **** though, isn't it? [2149.19] Stephen: I mean, there's Wi-Fi on a GoPro, but it is jank and it's just so much quicker to plug [2153.79] Stephen: the thing in. [2154.79] Koel: Yeah. [2155.79] Koel: I've just trying to load and play back from a GoPro is like, you're basically, you know, [2162.07] Koel: punching yourself in the face because you're like, okay, the things you're waiting to like [2167.63] Stephen: act as a half baked viewfinder. [2169.71] Stephen: And that's about what it's good for. [2171.59] Koel: Yeah. [2172.59] Koel: With like data mashing every like few frames. [2174.95] Curry: That's the one thing I used to hate on holiday is like, if I don't take a laptop with me, [2179.59] Curry: so I have to sync the Insta or my GoPro to my phone and he just literally sat there for [2184.43] Curry: an hour waiting for footage to come over to play it and go, no, I don't want that. [2189.43] Curry: That's crap. [2190.43] Curry: Yeah. [2191.79] Curry: Waiting every hour. [2192.79] Stephen: As much as one of us is awesome for convenience, if you would just want to get jobs done, cables [2198.91] Stephen: every time. [2199.91] Koel: Oh, yeah. [2200.91] Koel: Plug it in straight to the mean line that dude, but yeah, you could have a PI that's [2208.43] Stephen: powered from like a LiPo or a couple of 18650s through like a Beck and the PI has its own, [2217.03] Stephen: maybe like a SATA drive connected via USB and it runs like our sync or something so [2222.51] Stephen: it can tell if files have changed and it just copies the changed files off your GoPro each [2227.17] Stephen: time and just acts like a big dumping ground. [2231.35] Koel: How physically big would one of those be? [2235.07] Stephen: PI zero W's are pretty small though, like eight centimeters by two centimeters, that [2241.75] Stephen: sort of size. [2242.75] Stephen: It's small. [2243.75] Curry: Did I drain this? [2246.47] Curry: At some point you have a Wi-Fi SD card. [2249.19] Curry: Maybe it was a full size SD card, so when you took it, it could upload them automatically [2253.51] Curry: for you or something. [2254.51] Stephen: Yeah, they exist. [2255.51] Stephen: They're like way over the price to what they are, which is a really crap computer jammed [2260.13] Stephen: inside a large SD card. [2262.13] Stephen: The reason you don't get it in micro SD cards is you're basically buying like a micro SD [2266.71] Stephen: card with something that's like the chip they put in your ELRS module, like one of those [2272.81] Stephen: really tiny chips that's got like a token Wi-Fi ability and that's jammed inside the [2277.29] Stephen: big SD card housing. [2281.25] Stephen: It syncs your photos. [2282.25] Stephen: They charge through the roof for those things and they're kind of terrible. [2286.73] Frank: They don't last very long is my understanding. [2290.57] Frank: Turns out thermal issues happen quite a lot when you're on an SD card in the middle of [2297.61] Frank: a camera or some other device that is already quite hot. [2301.21] Stephen: Yeah, that's the big downside with micro SDs in general, man. [2305.61] Stephen: I've had to put fans on them and they still just get slower and then they stop transferring [2310.65] Stephen: data even with a fan on them. [2314.41] Jack: That's why you have to make up the whole SanDisk 10 year warranty, but it means keeping the [2321.07] Jack: receipts and the little number that's etched into them. [2327.13] Stephen: Yeah, I was grateful for failsafe's ingenuity when he built the little voron that's sitting [2333.65] Stephen: over my shoulder there and instead of using a micro SD, you put like a USB hard drive [2339.01] Stephen: on there, which is just a decision I'm very happy he did. [2344.05] Stephen: Is that the 3D printer? [2347.37] Stephen: Yeah. [2348.37] Stephen: 3D printer. [2349.37] Koel: Oh, props off as saying to Curry Kitten there, thanks for the rapid fire speedb comparison [2354.61] Koel: video. [2355.61] Jack: I hovered this 6S quad in my room after doing a bit of... [2365.37] Stephen: When you say 6S, do you mean 6 normal S or were they in fact 6 vape cells? [2370.25] Jack: They were 4 vape cells, but in... [2375.97] Koel: In 3P? [2376.97] Koel: In 3S. [2377.97] Koel: 3S, 4P. [2378.97] Jack: With that tiny wire and it hovered. [2382.09] Jack: How long for? [2383.65] Jack: Not long, but it worked. [2386.65] Jack: Until it caught fire. [2387.65] Jack: Yeah. [2388.65] Jack: Yeah. [2389.65] Jack: I mean, it worked. [2390.65] Jack: It's possible. [2391.65] Jack: Thank you. [2392.65] Jack: Well done. [2393.65] Jack: There's there's wing stickers for you here. [2396.85] Jack: They are the last ones unless you want me to get more made. [2401.81] Stephen: So what's next for the vape cell quad? [2403.85] Stephen: Are you able to continue or have you sweated enough adrenaline sweat flying back in your [2409.49] Stephen: room already? [2410.73] Jack: I've been using it with a battery operated soldering iron randomly and I've also been [2420.73] Jack: using it to power the Fat Sharks. [2424.81] Jack: Hence why I discovered it has a 3S. [2428.69] Jack: Yeah. [2429.69] Jack: Then. [2430.69] Jack: Yeah. [2431.69] Jack: They run. [2432.69] Jack: Believe it or not, I use the I repaired that cable thing that you had Frank. [2440.89] Jack: Who made it? [2442.49] Frank: I don't believe it. [2445.69] Frank: Furious. [2448.69] Jack: Yeah. [2449.69] Jack: I changed the end of that. [2450.69] Jack: So I use it with that. [2451.69] Jack: And then, you know, I was trying to I was trying to get the backpack to work. [2456.17] Jack: It looks like it's bound because it's a solid blue LED, but I can't. [2460.37] Jack: It just doesn't work. [2462.37] Jack: I don't know. [2463.37] Stephen: Here on the web interface. [2467.06] Jack: No. [2470.06] Jack: About that. [2472.62] Jack: My. [2474.14] Jack: Wi-Fi hubs changed. [2476.9] Jack: So I need to I need to tell it the new Wi-Fi hub. [2482.14] Stephen: It'll just come up with its own Wi-Fi AP. [2484.34] Stephen: If it can't find anything, it'll be called like Express LRS. [2488.34] Jack: It just doesn't seem to do that. [2491.46] Jack: And it's not. [2492.5] Jack: I need I need you or Curry or. [2496.54] Jack: Someone who's not me to look at that. [2500.74] Jack: I just don't understand. [2502.54] Jack: Oh, well, looks like we're stuck then. [2510.1] Curry: I wasn't listening for the first bit. [2511.42] Curry: What do I have to do? [2512.42] Curry: Something about the second bit. [2514.62] Curry: I'll put it together. [2515.26] Curry: Yeah. [2516.26] Jack: The the the LRS back back in my rapid fire. [2519.38] Stephen: He hasn't actually flashed it by the sound of it. [2521.42] Stephen: He's flashed something to it, but not the thing that actually puts the Wi-Fi access [2524.66] Stephen: point. QED ain't worth it. [2529.31] Jack: I just don't understand the LRS script. [2532.63] Jack: I don't understand. [2535.27] Jack: There's no there's no what it is. [2537.63] Jack: Is I've been so conditioned to devices that beep at me. [2541.83] Jack: But just having a single LED is just not enough for me to communicate with that [2545.95] Jack: device. [2547.23] Jack: And you try making at it. [2548.75] Jack: Maybe just in a shoot to a communication. [2551.67] Jack: They're barking at it. [2553.15] Koel: But did you try the Rocky Balboa running up some stairs? [2564.35] Curry: Yeah. [2564.59] Curry: What did you flash it with? [2565.51] Curry: Did you flash with the right stuff? [2566.79] Curry: I'm saying vague things now because I can't remember how I did the backpack and I'm [2569.95] Curry: not using the backpack anymore. [2571.15] Curry: So I've taken out like, well, I got I did do it at one point and I made a video about [2575.47] Curry: it. So I must be an expert. [2577.51] Jack: Oh, yeah, I might. [2578.51] Jack: I might plug it in. [2580.63] Jack: I might. [2581.15] Jack: I might just plug it in somewhere. [2583.43] Koel: Because I'm completely ignorant, what is this term you mean by backpack? [2587.47] Koel: You mean like a module? [2589.47] Stephen: It's like an Express LRS module, except it's purely to make your goggles change [2594.19] Stephen: channel. So you have one in your radio and you have one in the quad and those allow [2601.07] Stephen: the HDX radio to change the channel on the quad. [2603.87] Stephen: Right. Well, they did was make this into some whole ecosystem thing like the TBS [2609.43] Stephen: fusion, something, something, but just completely, you know, any any radio, any [2615.19] Stephen: goggles. So you can take an existing module, TBS fusion and rapid fire and the [2621.79] Stephen: Skyzone ones as well and chuck in one of these little I think they're about four [2625.91] Stephen: pounds, five dollars Express LRS backpacks, which is the Wi-Fi chip, but it doesn't [2632.27] Stephen: have the LoRa chipset. [2634.19] Stephen: It just does the near range Wi-Fi. [2637.39] Stephen: And it means that when you take your HDX radio and you change channel on that in the [2642.71] Stephen: LoRa script and it sends it to the quad, your radio is also forming a network with [2647.43] Stephen: your goggles and the goggles change channel in unison with the quad. [2651.43] Koel: Gotcha. Yeah. [2652.27] Koel: Yeah. And that's right, because fusion, TBS fusion module and Crossfire have that, you [2661.19] Koel: know, have that capability. [2662.55] Koel: And is that is that what I'm talking about? [2664.39] Koel: Is that is that my BTS or something? [2667.07] Stephen: Yeah, it's the same ecosystem that TBS fusion does, but just for all the LRS stuff. [2673.91] Koel: Gotcha. OK. Yeah. [2676.55] Koel: I guess I just I never have used that really. [2682.55] Koel: But I guess it can be handy. [2684.71] Stephen: And as props off say here that the module can also do other stuff because once you [2689.75] Stephen: shut something in your goggles, that's talking to your radio, it can be used for [2692.79] Stephen: interesting things. So the backpack with with the gyro attached to it can also perform [2698.19] Stephen: head tracking, tracking duties and speak to the radio. [2701.47] Stephen: Nice. That's how to use on there to like take like an MBU 6000 or some other gyro and [2708.51] Stephen: and just solder that up to to the backpack. [2712.79] Stephen: Man, I know. Actually, I'm getting the thing flashed is a pain in the butt. [2719.11] Stephen: And if you haven't got it flashed already, it's like, you know, break out this FTDI [2722.75] Stephen: adapters and. Yeah, and then dig out whichever alkane software you're operating system [2728.63] Stephen: requires to use an FTDI adapter and do it from that, which is just yeah, it is the painful [2733.83] Stephen: way of dealing with express LRS. [2735.31] Stephen: It's like, you know, stuff's gone south, right? [2737.99] Stephen: Get the FTDI adapter out and actually speak direct to the MCU, much like Jack is doing [2742.51] Stephen: with his flashing of. [2745.87] Stephen: And 32, what you what you got there, you're going to do it from your radio, Jack. [2750.75] Jack: Just a solid blue light. [2752.99] Jack: That's it. And my radio is an even on. [2756.87] Jack: So yeah, you're not working that guy out. [2760.51] Stephen: Flash it via TDI, get firmware on there and make sure you can get to the Wi-Fi access point. [2765.31] Stephen: That's operation number one. [2767.95] Curry: OK, so it might be created its own access point like a normal thing after. [2775.59] Curry: Yeah, that's why I'm thinking it isn't flashed or it's not booting correctly. [2779.55] Jack: Oh, you flashed it with the wrong and yeah, I think I flashed it wrong. [2785.79] Curry: There's a chance. [2787.27] Curry: Yeah, I do remember doing it and having to ask a lot of questions of the express LRS [2792.27] Curry: Discord, but it was fairly new at that point. [2794.83] Curry: I'm hoping it should be a little bit more helpful people out there. [2798.23] Stephen: You'll end up with it with an essay on how to do it as soon as you ask who. [2802.79] Jack: Yeah, I might I might go there and just be like, who wants to shove their hand up my [2809.19] Jack: ass and work me like I'm up there. [2812.03] Jack: Also, who wants to fix that? [2815.27] Stephen: Yeah, I know. [2816.39] Stephen: It's the internet. You have to be specific. [2818.87] Curry: Yeah, unfortunately, that's Jack's first question to all discord groups, which is why he [2822.79] Curry: doesn't stay there for very long. [2824.79] Curry: Yeah, I know. [2826.39] Curry: It's not a wanted list. [2827.47] Jack: And from 97, I'm going for the 100 before Christmas. [2834.81] Curry: Yeah, part of the reason I didn't use the backpack in the end is it would. [2840.41] Curry: It was fighting with if it was set up via if I did something via smart audio, and then [2847.21] Curry: the backpack would be like, hang on a sec. [2849.29] Curry: I'm doing it. [2850.21] Curry: And the radio would then change it back to what it wanted and do the goggles the same [2854.29] Curry: way. It's like, I think actually I want to do my things through like smart audio and [2860.49] Curry: do it that way rather than do it through the radio. [2863.09] Curry: Also, all my cards are set are one at all times unless I have to change it. [2867.93] Curry: I'm flying with other people. [2869.17] Curry: So it's not not a big deal. [2871.61] Koel: Yeah, I don't even know the last time I changed my channel. [2873.89] Koel: I'm like, I mean, smart audio is great to have. [2876.85] Koel: But and this backpack thing is obviously great to have if you're in certain scenarios. [2880.93] Koel: But mine's like a set it and forget it type of scenario. [2886.89] Jack: I don't know whether to go back to ghost, but you can't get the receivers. [2891.25] Jack: So I think I know the answer to that. [2894.57] Stephen: Yeah, so there's definitely some integration with with racing props of mentions [2898.65] Stephen: here. And I thought that they were using this stuff to also control, you know, which [2904.21] Stephen: pilots are taking part in a specific heat and make sure that their channel assignment [2910.05] Stephen: was sane. I'm trying to remember exactly how the integration goes, but I thought there [2914.41] Stephen: were a few out there where backpacks were able to participate in race direction. [2921.13] Stephen: Maybe I'm pulling this out my bum, but I seem to remember it being talked about an [2924.77] Stephen: awful lot. I just don't do racing. [2927.21] Curry: Anyone heard anything about that? [2929.41] Curry: No, it's like what you're saying is like there's a vague like that seems to ring true, [2933.77] Curry: but I can't think of the specifics about it. [2936.09] Curry: So we're all just sort of dreaming it and thinking, well, that'd be quite useful. [2939.33] Curry: Or we have actually heard of something about it. [2942.01] Curry: Yeah, I'm pretty sure we have. [2944.01] Curry: I remember more about like Tramp being in the sort of and the magic wand that being a [2951.05] Curry: race director thing to like, I'm going to set you to 25 milliwatts on this channel and [2956.61] Curry: you could just touch your quad without being powered up. [2959.97] Jack: And it was like, I found my wand and hilariously, I had written the word Hitachi on [2968.69] Jack: the end of it. [2972.05] Stephen: So it was a massager then never would have seen that coming. [2975.65] Koel: Yeah, I still have a sealed Tramp actually. [2979.37] Frank: I think I do somewhere. [2981.17] Curry: Hoarding hardware. [2982.77] Curry: And I still need to borrow Jack's magical wand, which can break my [2988.41] Jack: his hatches. [2993.73] Jack: But I'm, mate, I've built a whole tripod during the hope of being able to see you one day. [3001.49] Curry: Say me one day. [3002.93] Jack: Can I can I come over and play? [3007.13] Curry: Yeah. [3008.61] Curry: Okay, the the only problem we've got now is weather days, which are a bit harder to come by. [3015.61] Jack: Yeah, mate, I am more than happy just to eat chicken with you. [3019.01] Jack: And sounds rough might attack you wand on your out of date hardware if you know what I mean. [3026.57] Curry: Well, that's obviously what we'd be doing most of the time. [3030.21] Curry: What's Jack doing? [3031.53] Curry: Uh oh. [3032.53] Curry: I was finding his wand. [3034.33] Jack: It's very it's very faded, but oh, see, it is actually it's rubbed off, but it was there. [3047.61] Koel: It did make me know so many innuendos that could be made. [3050.73] Koel: And I don't know. [3051.33] Jack: I don't know where the back battery door is, but it works. [3054.65] Jack: You just have to hold the battery in and press the button all at the same time. [3058.97] Frank: I'm looking forward to seeing what type all this podcast ends up happening on the theme. [3065.61] Curry: It's just going to be called Episode 476. [3068.73] Frank: Some of the recent titles, I think he's been doing a very good job of coming up with names. [3075.29] Jack: Are we allowed to name said editor? [3078.13] Jack: Well, I have now. [3078.89] Jack: So yeah, you have now. [3081.65] Frank: He's a shadowy figure. [3083.73] Frank: The last one was cat cam equals Jacknip. [3086.89] Jack: I love that. [3088.13] Frank: Nailed it. [3089.41] Jack: I was meowing at Sad Cat last night and it came over and sniffed the camera and battered it. [3095.97] Jack: The footage is in the Discord if you want to watch it. [3100.65] Jack: And all I got back from Frank was I think we've been discovered. [3107.01] Jack: I'm loving it, man. [3108.05] Jack: I get I tell you what, it properly pisses on my chips if it's several birds in a row for a cat. [3117.17] Curry: I have noticed, interestingly, this is an experiment featuring my dog and cat. [3123.49] Curry: The cat will react to somebody on a screen and the dog was just like, doesn't know anything about it. [3131.57] Curry: Why are you holding that phone to my head? [3133.13] Curry: I don't know what you're doing. [3135.61] Curry: So cats have more of a chance of talking back to Jack or batting. [3140.45] Jack: No, it does. [3141.77] Jack: Frank's got several minutes of footage of me enjoying Sad Cat. [3149.17] Curry: I was going to talk about flying for next week and what's the forecast. [3152.73] Curry: But of course, we've all had winds at up to 16000 miles per hour today. [3157.93] Curry: Yeah. [3158.53] Curry: So perhaps it's not too trusted. [3160.69] Frank: As Playa points out, some people have been forecast overnight loads of 400 degrees. [3166.89] Frank: So yeah. [3167.41] Frank: Okay. [3167.97] Koel: So get your sunscreen out back to one million. [3175.57] Koel: Well, that doesn't look too bad. [3177.41] Frank: The weather looks pretty good for the weekend. [3179.05] Frank: Yeah, relatively. [3182.57] Jack: I think Tony's hoping to come see me if any of you want to come down. [3190.13] Frank: I need to work out what flights currently. [3193.29] Jack: Well, there's a battery here for you to fly. [3196.05] Jack: Well done, Andy. [3196.77] Frank: I need to find something to put it in, don't I? [3200.81] Jack: Tom's ironing it up as well. [3203.29] Jack: He's very intrigued. [3206.29] Stephen: You're going to fly that pack so far that just catches fire. [3210.49] Jack: I know Cole's disappeared. [3211.93] Jack: I think he's got wireless headphones, but I do. [3214.33] Jack: PSA scanned your batteries. [3216.53] Jack: I wonder what they'd make of the one that I made. [3221.21] Jack: I reckon they'd just pull their guns out and just point them at me. [3225.41] Koel: Well, see, I was really interested when I was going through security. [3228.37] Koel: Like, and you know, you put your stuff on the little trolley, like whatever, [3232.85] Koel: the little, I don't know what the heck you call it, but like, see, yeah, [3237.33] Koel: through on the trays, you walk through the little whatever. [3240.49] Koel: And then there's a guy sitting at the computer, like inspecting the things [3242.97] Koel: that are going through the conveyor belt. [3244.73] Koel: And I'm like, I want to see what he sees when my bag goes through. [3249.89] Koel: So like, I can see his screen. [3251.25] Koel: Like I've gone through and I'm looking at it and he's like, I think [3253.97] Koel: he's like adjusting like the whatever, the weird color contrast stuff that happens. [3258.73] Koel: And like, all of a sudden I just see like chunk, chunk, chunk, chunk, chunk. [3264.17] Stephen: And I'm like, break, break out the probe, guys. [3268.01] Koel: No, dude, I literally took like three or yeah. [3272.49] Koel: Three, three. [3274.57] Koel: Yeah, three flights in the last two weeks. [3279.45] Koel: Nothing. [3280.41] Koel: And like I see when I looked at the guy's scream, I was going through [3283.53] Koel: and you just see chunk, chunk, chunk, chunk. [3285.45] Koel: I'm like, oh no, like, what's he going to make of this? [3289.01] Koel: But I don't think that batteries are really a red flag unless you have [3294.25] Koel: like huge ones or a million of them. [3297.45] Stephen: So yeah, there are no quantity, aren't they? [3300.93] Stephen: Just everything has batteries now. [3302.41] Koel: So exactly. [3304.33] Koel: Yeah. [3305.41] Koel: Speaking of batteries, I actually, I got a new battery. [3309.13] Koel: I want to test out, which is it's the, as the, as Chris Rosser would say, [3314.69] Koel: gold line, but I say O line, but it makes sense that it would be gold line. [3320.21] Koel: Um, it's a 3000 milliamp hour, uh, Sony VC VTC six, uh, sells us a 30 amp constant. [3329.81] Koel: You know, you just see them in there and it's, it's, it's pretty small actually. [3333.61] Koel: So I'm curious to try this one out and see how much flight time I can [3337.05] Koel: get with just cruising because if I could get, I mean, what I'm thinking [3343.73] Koel: is with a 13 50 battery on a regular five inch quad, if I'm just cruising on, [3350.01] Koel: and it's a good battery, like a newer battery, I can get like six minutes of [3353.33] Koel: flight time. [3354.61] Koel: So in theory, I should be able to, as long as I'm not like, you know, I [3360.57] Koel: looked at my DVR too, when I'm cruising, I'm never pulling more than like maybe [3365.13] Koel: 10 amps, maybe 12 amps or something like that. [3367.49] Koel: So I'll never, I'll never at a cruising, um, cruising speeds. [3373.21] Koel: I'll never pull 30 amps with a 3000 or, or three amp hour battery. [3379.29] Koel: I should be able to get at least, I don't know, 15 minutes. [3384.13] Koel: I think maybe is that, is that seem feasible or yeah. [3390.65] Stephen: Yeah, you can run those down to like 2.5 volts as well. [3393.65] Koel: I am. [3394.05] Koel: I'm curious to see how these lithium ions work because I've only ever used on my [3397.97] Koel: seven inch, I've used lithium ions, but I've never used it on a five inch for [3401.81] Koel: cruising, but five inches is totally capable. [3404.77] Koel: I just, I want to, I want to experiment a bit. [3407.33] Koel: So I bought one. [3408.25] Stephen: That's not the most efficient platform, but it will work just fine. [3411.41] Stephen: And if you manage the throttle, yeah, I'm not, yeah, yeah. [3414.65] Koel: Yeah, yeah. [3415.05] Koel: And the other thing too is I ended up getting a, uh, a GPS just came in. [3420.61] Koel: It's the Fox here. [3423.21] Koel: Was it M 10 Q two 50 or something? [3426.61] Koel: It's like the bigger sized one, which I kind of wish I got the smaller one, [3432.97] Koel: but I don't know. [3434.97] Stephen: I've never used, uh, the big ones get a fixed much quicker. [3439.17] Stephen: Those little small ones. [3440.17] Stephen: They look neat, but they take an absolute age to get fixed. [3444.21] Koel: Well. [3444.37] Koel: And so my only problem now is those, I need, like, I had a 3d print for a GPS [3449.77] Koel: that was for a BN two 20. [3451.01] Koel: I was, I didn't check the dimensions or anything, and I was hoping maybe I could [3454.93] Koel: just like, you know, shove it on the back of that one or tape it on or something. [3458.77] Koel: But the new one I got is too big for this 3d print. [3461.69] Koel: So I'm going to need to find somebody or find a, some kind of design or an STL [3468.13] Koel: that I can either get someone to remix. [3470.65] Stephen: You need to buy a 3d print tonight. [3472.73] Stephen: I guess suddenly everything is that much easier. [3476.85] Koel: Yeah. [3477.37] Koel: But I don't even, I don't really, like, I could maybe find the space for it, but [3482.57] Koel: like, I don't have a lot of, um, I don't have a lot of room, I guess. [3489.25] Curry: And also you're saying, I guess there's a setting and a wall is like next to us. [3493.93] Curry: And you've got this massive expanse behind you saying, I don't have anything. [3498.01] Koel: Well, this is only like a couple of feet behind me and it's a closet. [3503.97] Koel: That's a bathroom. [3505.37] Koel: I mean, next thing I know my cats are going to like jump on it and then they're [3509.21] Stephen: going to table against the wall that's on the right view. [3512.21] Stephen: So Caroline reviewed something that wasn't only small. [3515.45] Stephen: It was incredibly cheap. [3516.73] Stephen: It was like, had a build volume of like 10 centimeters wide, but that's [3520.61] Stephen: enough to do a GoPro mount. [3522.25] Stephen: It's enough to do skids. [3523.65] Stephen: It's enough to do GPS. [3524.85] Stephen: Yeah. [3524.97] Koel: I don't need a, I don't need anything big. [3526.57] Koel: Yeah. [3527.33] Stephen: Yeah. [3527.61] Stephen: And it was like just over a hundred quid, like on, on Amazon. [3532.53] Stephen: So you could just next day it. [3535.01] Curry: And I reviewed one which is about an A4 Sony's printer, which seemed to work [3541.13] Curry: very well. [3542.93] Koel: Yeah. [3543.17] Koel: And then I got to go down the rabbit hole of getting it to work well and, and, and [3547.17] Koel: tuning it and making it auto levels. [3551.41] Curry: You shove some filament. [3553.85] Stephen: It's something small that does TPU and don't put anything, but TPU, just keep TPU [3558.33] Stephen: in there the whole time and calibrate. [3560.01] Stephen: Yeah. [3560.29] Stephen: That is a solution. [3563.25] Koel: Oh, just wall mount it. [3565.17] Koel: Yeah. [3566.73] Koel: Yeah. [3567.09] Koel: You know what? [3567.61] Koel: It's just me being like, Oh, I don't understand this. [3571.57] Koel: I don't want to do something new. [3573.01] Koel: That's out of my comfort zone. [3574.89] Stephen: And I'm, I resisted for ages, but then I, after I bought like, I think the, the [3582.73] Stephen: 15th bit from like bangers, there was some 3d printed part. [3586.85] Stephen: I just thought, Oh, F this, and, uh, yeah, gave it a go. [3590.41] Stephen: And then all of a sudden, everything is, it's not free, but it's virtually free. [3593.97] Stephen: You know, you get so many prints out of a kilo. [3598.69] Jack: Steven is right. [3600.45] Jack: You know, it wasn't till someone gave me, um, Gav gave me a turnergy light [3609.01] Jack: fabricator, which does, uh, 10 centimeter by 10 centimeter by 10 centimeter, like [3618.37] Jack: print base, and it was, I just got into it and printers have moved on so [3626.93] Jack: much right now, like, you know, the, the bamboo lab, a one carbon and stuff like [3633.77] Jack: that, like it literally prints itself. [3637.93] Jack: You would, it would be harder to get it to, it would be harder to get it to give [3644.61] Jack: you a burn than to, you can always buy the bamboo stuff. [3649.73] Stephen: That seems to be the guaranteed way of getting good results, but you [3652.53] Koel: will, I just looked it up actually. [3654.93] Koel: And bamboo lab, a one mini 3d printer on sale, normally three 89 Canadian [3661.09] Koel: on sale for two 50 that's, yeah, that's, you know, that's definitely doable [3667.25] Koel: because we spend 250 bucks on say some batteries and some motors without [3672.65] Koel: question, you know what I mean? [3673.81] Stephen: So if you're going to carry on buying 3d prints remotely and paying [3677.17] Stephen: 10 bucks in shipping every now and then it doesn't develop. [3681.93] Jack: I would, I mean, if, if, if you can get one of those to give you a print, [3690.33] Jack: you're, you're a smart man and I am. [3694.13] Jack: Yeah. [3694.65] Jack: Buy a lot of hits, spend more than 50 more dollars on lottery tickets. [3700.85] Stephen: Didn't both Curry and Andy or see have one of the bamboo ones for a while? [3706.33] Koel: I think everyone just swears by being now. [3709.05] Curry: Uh, Creality ones, we've got the same one of those. [3714.93] Jack: Yeah. [3715.93] Jack: And we clip it now with wireless transfer. [3719.61] Jack: There's not, it prints faster. [3722.41] Jack: Um, and you haven't got like rummaging for SD cards and like that and auto [3729.49] Jack: level, you've got not only auto level, where it just like goes to each [3736.89] Jack: corner and you adjust your level. [3738.61] Jack: It also does a bed mesh. [3740.85] Jack: So there's a bump on the bed. [3742.77] Jack: It'll like work around it. [3744.45] Stephen: Yeah. [3746.13] Jack: Yeah. [3746.61] Stephen: Yeah. [3746.77] Stephen: I mean, I can just look on thing averse and be like, Oh, which [3749.53] Stephen: exact GoPro mount do I want? [3751.53] Stephen: And, uh, yeah. [3753.45] Stephen: And then maybe tweak it a little bit. [3755.17] Stephen: Be like, Oh, I'd like it a bit with tighter fit. [3757.21] Stephen: I'll scale it down to be like 98% of the original size and make it nice and tight. [3763.17] Koel: Yeah. [3764.37] Koel: Yeah. [3764.53] Koel: I'll have to find, I'll have to like, the thing is I have a ton of 3d prints [3769.17] Koel: right now, like for GoPro mounts and, and basically anything I could [3774.41] Koel: think of that I would need. [3776.13] Koel: So part of me is like, Oh, am I going to spend 250 bucks plus shipping to get [3780.37] Koel: this a one for me to make a GPS mount? [3784.49] Koel: Or do I pay someone five, 10 bucks to do it? [3787.41] Koel: True. [3788.49] Stephen: Well, it's like also it's something to do over winter. [3791.09] Stephen: If you're bored, I suppose it just depends what, what you like to do, [3794.29] Stephen: whether it's, you know, break out the decks or a guitar or a book or [3797.37] Stephen: whether you like to take with gadgets. [3799.57] Frank: If you have a friendly local person who has a working 3d printer, that [3803.45] Frank: seems to be the best solution. [3805.17] Frank: And they can deal with the maintenance. [3807.73] Frank: Exactly. [3808.89] Jack: They can deal with the, the, the, I'm Frank's bloody 3d printer. [3815.45] Koel: Which actually technically Jack is mine as well. [3818.61] Jack: Yeah, I know. [3819.57] Jack: I, I, I get demanding texts of like, how's it doing now? [3823.65] Jack: And then I have to like, send like video updates and stuff. [3827.17] Jack: He's like, I'm, I'm pet sitting for him. [3831.65] Stephen: But it's a little webcam in front of the 3d printer. [3834.97] Stephen: You can see the cats in his neighborhood, but he's got to see. [3839.53] Jack: He was the organ grinder of 3d printing. [3843.21] Jack: He was the man for 3d printing. [3846.37] Jack: Now he's getting the monkey to 3d print for him. [3850.49] Jack: Right. [3851.01] Jack: Unfortunately, that is all we've got time for. [3855.01] Jack: Um, a little notification. [3858.53] Jack: If you do support us, like these lovely people down scrolling below, like [3864.49] Jack: Stuart Thorne, David Powell, Wes, Aries, you know, [3868.81] Stephen: and the support like that can make you a 50% more intelligent and attractive. [3874.57] Jack: Yeah. [3875.49] Jack: It's an old fact. [3877.29] Jack: If you use the apple, uh, app for patreon, um, as of, yeah, as of November 1st, [3891.89] Jack: um, they're adding it to their app subscription service. [3897.73] Jack: So they will be charging you 30% more. [3901.93] Jack: And then with fees and everything else, break out a web browser. [3907.01] Stephen: Right. [3907.25] Stephen: Yeah. [3907.49] Stephen: It works out as we use the app. [3910.61] Jack: Yeah. [3910.89] Jack: 40%. [3911.93] Jack: So yeah. [3913.17] Jack: Uh, yeah. [3915.41] Jack: Um, delete that app, stop that and then go use a web browser, create a [3921.89] Jack: patreon account or log back in and then subscribe that way. [3928.21] Jack: Don't use. [3929.65] Stephen: Oh, I should just give him money to apple. [3931.45] Stephen: And we don't get anything from apple. [3933.05] Stephen: We're not sitting here on piles of iPads for chairs or anything. [3936.21] Stephen: Like we don't see any of that money. [3937.65] Stephen: It just goes to apple for the ability to run the app. [3940.57] Jack: No, until Frank is snorting cocaine off an iPad instead of a mirror, like some [3949.85] Jack: sort of retro eighties futuristic thing. [3953.93] Jack: Uh, yeah, please do not use the, uh, the apple app. [3958.73] Jack: Please use a web based or yeah. [3961.81] Jack: Or normal app. [3963.13] Stephen: Um, especially if all things for a patreon, it just doesn't make sense because [3966.73] Stephen: the people on patreon get nothing from apple for that 30% cut whatsoever. [3972.29] Jack: No worries. [3973.25] Jack: Uh, thank you for tuning in. [3974.45] Jack: We're live every Thursday. [3976.21] Jack: You've been listening to let drone out. [3978.45] Jack: You've been joined by everyone. [3979.77] Jack: Favorite curry kitten. [3980.93] Jack: Goodbye. [3982.53] Jack: The Lord of master Andrew slash Frank, who hopefully he's got another edit for us. [3988.05] Frank: No, sorry. [3989.29] Jack: Huh? [3990.25] Jack: Uh, the man with the mustache, Steven. [3993.45] Jack: Right. [3993.89] Jack: Cheers. [3994.29] Jack: Have a good weekend from and my buddy Cole. [3997.13] Jack: See it. [3998.73] Jack: I've been your host of bright off life. [4000.13] Jack: Thank you. [4000.65] Jack: And good night. [4002.21] Jack: Bye. [4005.45] Jack: Telemetry loss.
