Yeah. See are you being maintaining the spooky atmosphere all year? [78.41] Stephen: Jack, it's just the floating head of Jack in the black void [82.53] Stephen: I know how can you get over spooky? Perhaps you should just make it all hot pink for once. I know [88.85] Jack: Could do apparently that's how they done the whole Adam's family because it's filmed in black and white [94.45] Jack: Everything was pink and green to give different shades of gray [98.33] Curry: You can wear that dress and do hoovering again. That was pretty frightening to watch [102.93] Jack: Yeah, it was Andy. I see [105.65] Jack: now clothes [108.25] Jack: Yeah [112.17] Jack: It doesn't help I'm wearing a black shirt I should have yeah, it really gives you the ploiting head vibe [117.65] Jack: It's quite a breast. No, Holly Holly [121.17] Stephen: Anyway, anyway, yes throwbacks for those who were born like less than 30 years ago. That means nothing [132.29] Jack: We are joined by everyone's favorite curry kitten [135.37] Jack: Hello [136.53] Jack: The man with my star Steven good evening [140.17] Jack: Hopefully I can see you tomorrow. I'm bright to your fly and our guest tonight is a lovely gentleman called our mark [148.37] Jack: What's up? [150.25] Jack: Yes, I as we were saying [153.37] Jack: You're kind of we're moving into the the sort of [157.41] Jack: Mm. Am 32 sort of chat. We got those guys coming up on the show soon and [164.01] Jack: I was I flashed a M32 Cole is a [169.61] Jack: big user of your content and discord [173.09] Jack: unfortunately, he's not here because he picked up a [177.33] Jack: job and [179.89] Stephen: I [182.05] Stephen: From the looks of it from the visual reports [184.53] Stephen: He appears to be in transported as some Magic Kingdom with reels and reels of brightly colored chiffon and pixies [193.45] Stephen: I know [196.09] Stephen: Yeah, I was just like looking forward we have his camera footage so [202.57] Stephen: Just made it up [204.69] Jack: Yeah, I'm mark [206.73] Jack: Yeah, so I recently joined your discord. You've got like a whole community [212.77] Jack: You've been you're you're very versatile from what I can gather [217.81] Jack: With the fact is you'll be you've been flying quick silver. You've been flashing in 32 [223.29] Jack: ESCs [224.57] Jack: You focus ultra and beat flights [226.81] Jack: So you're like the best of both worlds and quick silver from the looks of it as well [230.85] Stephen: We see that avocado making an appearance [234.25] Stephen: We don't talk about the avocado. You don't talk about the avocado. You made an avocado enemies [240.85] Al Mac: Yeah, it's just yeah [243.41] Al Mac: No, it's um, it's fun. I just enjoy doing it all [247.53] Stephen: Yeah, that's an experiment. I have I've not some of the quick silver guys actually pop up on [253.05] Stephen: Beta flight in the development forums, but uh, yeah, I don't know anyone who's flown at a bunch [258.25] Stephen: But yeah, if it's giving you some strife, then we'll just we'll step away step away from the avocado [264.41] Al Mac: No, it's just really it's it's something I like to mess with [270.53] Al Mac: You know that they design it really for the whoops [273.69] Al Mac: Um, I just found it flies amazing on five inch and I really like it [278.81] Al Mac: Actually all of my beta flight gear my beta flight quads have quick silver on [284.81] Stephen: So if you're gonna capture up characterize the differences, obviously super simple setup [289.41] Stephen: It's meant to get that move up and racing as quick as possible. Just what it's [293.73] Stephen: Beyond that what's the flight feel like? [298.01] Al Mac: Believe it or not. It feels a little like a lot like kiss believe it or not [302.85] Al Mac: Yeah, it just it just has that real organic feel to it [307.45] Al Mac: You know, and there's just it's just there. It just works. It's it's it's mind-blowing. It's just [313.25] Al Mac: Yeah, it's kind of hard to explain. You've got [315.89] Stephen: Targets, right because it used to be just a little blue boards and now it seems pretty much everything [320.45] Al Mac: Yeah, you can almost get a target for just about anything. And if not, I'm sure you know them guys over there [327.05] Al Mac: Definitely help you out with that. You know [329.53] Al Mac: Over there at the discord for you know, quicksilver or whatnot [333.49] Stephen: Sounds like a good winter experiment, you know [336.41] Stephen: Nights are getting longer staying inside more maybe time to do a bit of flashing and tinkering. Yeah. Yep [343.09] Curry: Yep, I was fascinated by this because [346.77] Curry: Quicksilver I heard of years ago about like changing over sort of semi toy type quads [354.05] Curry: Maybe even like the brushboards and stuff like oh the quicksilver one [357.61] Curry: It's much much better and I hadn't I hadn't heard of it in years [361.29] Curry: And I thought it just died out with it. But you guys mentioning it makes me think oh [366.81] Curry: Got plenty of chords on the wall. I should try one. See what happens. Yeah. Yeah. Can't hurt. Yeah, absolutely. Yeah [373.61] Al Mac: Yeah, benedict. I think started and well, he started messing with I think way back in the [379.19] Al Mac: 2016 or something you started writing his own firmware and then I think around 2020 ish or something he [385.69] Al Mac: Come up with uh, well him with some others come up with a quicksilver. I'm gonna hold i'm not the [391.29] Al Mac: You know well versing the whole story or what but uh, yeah, he kind of mentioned a little bit about it and uh, yeah, but [397.85] Stephen: It really went to town with the stick commands didn't it's like a stick command city over there. Yeah [404.41] Al Mac: Yeah, um [405.85] Al Mac: Yeah, it works. Yeah, but um for the most part I like uh [410.81] Al Mac: You know because i'm a big kiss guy. I've been a pretty lazy kiss. I flew a beta flight first couple years. I was in the hobby [417.37] Al Mac: um, and then I tried kiss and then I just never really went back then now it's kiss ultra [424.17] Al Mac: Which kiss ultra was kind of a whole different animal. Um, you got alex heading it with the uh, he's got [429.45] Al Mac: He's just bringing so much. I mean it's it's incredible. Um [434.33] Al Mac: Yeah, he's just so active in it. Uh [436.73] Al Mac: And yeah, that's all I really I mean as far as my freestyle drawings i'm gonna build one today [442.09] Al Mac: It's gonna be a kiss ultra quad and they got the new esc which is the valtar [446.73] Al Mac: Which is a 70 amp esc, which is ridiculous. That was designed and developed by yeah, there you go [452.97] Al Mac: By uh, leave you at pb, which you know, he's uh, he's been in the esc game for a long time [459.29] Al Mac: Uh, I took all my advice from him [462.09] Al Mac: Not that i'm even remotely close to knowing what i'm doing [465.93] Al Mac: But when it comes to hot air and stuff like that, so [469.13] Jack: Yeah, there you go. That's a thing. That's a lot of repair videos [473.37] Jack: Um, yeah, it's quite chunky as well [476.09] Jack: Yes [478.89] Stephen: Yeah, yeah a thermal mass [481.61] Jack: Yeah, not that bad. I'd like um [483.85] Jack: Yeah, I I flew it today. I was just [488.01] Jack: I just uh [489.85] Jack: went to [491.13] Jack: went to visit my friend tom and I was in like a [495.13] Jack: uh, I went to his workshop and uh, grab some sausage rolls [500.25] Jack: and uh, kind of sat with him for like half an hour and then just went to [506.01] Jack: the the field nearby and um [511.05] Jack: Just done some [514.65] Jack: You know like quad housekeeping it's very rare that I fly on my own [521.37] Jack: but it was things like [523.61] Jack: uh [524.57] Jack: Have a look at my main quad versus my backup quad [528.01] Jack: um [529.53] Jack: and [530.81] Jack: Like, you know have a look at like the sort of like notch filters have a look at the [536.25] Jack: um [539.21] Jack: Uh, you know have a look at the resonance of my frames. Um, alexander lovingly taught me about the sort of [547.37] Jack: uh [548.65] Jack: gyro [551.69] Jack: Graph that you can have [553.69] Jack: Yeah, you just plug in [555.61] Jack: It shows you the raw data and as long as you don't unplug you can kind of see [560.09] Jack: The sort of like noisier frame there was like [563.61] Jack: uh [565.13] Jack: Adjusted my video sync level so that I don't get like so much of the flicker and stuff [570.73] Jack: things that when you're flying with other people and like you kind of [575.45] Jack: you know waiting your turn and [578.73] Jack: um [581.21] Jack: You know like, you know, you might be chasing each other around or like, you know kind of tricking around stuff. I was just in a [588.33] Jack: boring empty field and just doing the little things that kind of like niggle and make yourself [594.17] Jack: like feel better and because it's like a sort of [597.29] Jack: I don't know remade in or first [600.49] Jack: text white of like changing things over [603.77] Jack: um [604.81] Jack: Yeah, it was just nice to kind of go out and [608.09] Jack: Do the sort of like little things and catch up [611.21] Jack: Yeah, so [612.49] Jack: But yeah, I was sorry impressed. It um [616.09] Jack: Definitely kind of gave me that sort of like old [619.29] Jack: like 25 amp [621.37] Jack: BSC sort of like [623.45] Jack: bill [624.49] Jack: yeah [626.25] Jack: A bit more like, you know smoother. I mean it's definitely [631.37] Jack: I remember I was like flying kk2 [635.53] Jack: and then I bought a [638.65] Jack: uh, what is it a flip 32 and was uh [643.53] Jack: Like flying the multi-way and it was I just remember just feeling like a nice smooth yaw [651.21] Jack: and [652.01] Jack: Things being like a little bit quicker. It's like with the kk2 man. It was like you send you stick commands [659.77] Jack: with [660.97] Jack: uh, like [662.97] Jack: royal mail and like sort of [666.89] Jack: on posted standard dress envelopes [669.77] Jack: It was very [673.05] Jack: Not and I kind of like that sort of like multi-way [677.85] Jack: When did you get into the hobby almak? [680.55] Jack: 2020 yeah [682.33] Al Mac: 2020 yeah [684.33] Al Mac: Yeah, I um, it wasn't a good year [687.29] Al Mac: Yeah. Well, actually it was um [689.69] Al Mac: I got sick [692.17] Al Mac: during uh early on 2020 and uh, my life changed a lot and that that uh, [697.61] Al Mac: while I was recuperating [699.13] Al Mac: I was doing around laying around and watching youtube videos and uh, I come across a video this guy flying a drone inside of a building and [707.29] Al Mac: He wasn't even doing freestyle [708.89] Al Mac: He was just creeping around with like I think like a little whooper type thing or something and i'm like that's that's freaking cool [714.89] Al Mac: You know [715.93] Al Mac: So I got fascinated and that's kind of how like I started research [720.57] Al Mac: I'm like, what are they doing? Then I started seeing like other videos of them really freestyling. I think mr [725.61] Al Mac: Steel's videos popped up and I go how are they doing? It's like what are they doing? [729.37] Al Mac: I noticed they were wearing goggles and i'm like [732.09] Al Mac: So I had to I had to look into it. Nah, and yeah, it's been a big part of my life ever since. Uh [739.37] Al Mac: Yeah, I just [741.93] Al Mac: Yeah [743.13] Al Mac: Kind of um, it's where yeah, I think my very first setup is hilarious. You guys will laugh. Um, [749.69] Al Mac: I bought a I bought a freaking it was called an emotion drone. It was a uh, [755.05] Al Mac: A wifi it was a wifi drone [758.81] Al Mac: And it was like 50 bucks [760.97] Al Mac: So I bought this [762.33] Al Mac: I bought this drone and it's just like it'll push a button it takes off and you kind of put your phone in [767.77] Al Mac: You can see what's going on [769.53] Al Mac: So i'm like, well, this is stupid. So then I I researched like [773.85] Al Mac: Like an fpv camera and then the goggles so I end up buying a pair of maker fire goggles, which are like these box goggles [781.05] Al Mac: I bought a pair of them [783.05] Al Mac: For like 40 bucks or something and then I get uh [787.21] Al Mac: A it was called a bold clash all-in-one fpv camera [792.41] Al Mac: And I just double-sided sticky taped it on top of this another video today. We have a drone from [799.37] Al Mac: Yeah, there you go. Yep. Yes, sheen emotion during that's it. But uh, so I [806.41] Al Mac: I slapped the camera on top of this thing and that was my very first fpv experience was with these maker fire [812.81] Al Mac: Goggles and flying that thing around my neighborhood [816.65] Al Mac: So then i'm like, well, okay now I gotta [818.89] Al Mac: Yeah, now i'm researching like how like these quads how you build these quads [824.09] Al Mac: Then, you know, right and that's when I found curry kittens video about the uh, the uh tyro 119 [831.37] Al Mac: So, uh, I was looking into that and what was most attractive about that was it was 120 bucks for the whole kit [838.09] Al Mac: So I was like [839.61] Al Mac: Can't go wrong. All right [841.45] Al Mac: So that was my first quad actually the frames right there on the wall [845.21] Al Mac: my very first quad and uh, yeah, and uh [850.09] Al Mac: It's been uh, old, you know uphill from there [856.17] Jack: Didn't you have one of those curry you had two of them sent to you and like [861.45] Curry: It's for my video. I must have had at least one [864.25] Al Mac: Yeah [865.45] Al Mac: Well, I remember you were the one that mentioned that it was uh, I think banggood and then like I think that was the reason [870.81] Al Mac: I've even found it [872.41] Al Mac: On banggood. I believe i'm pretty sure because right after that bardwell released a whole [878.65] Al Mac: Series on building that exact quad, but you were the first one that I saw mentioned it [883.85] Al Mac: and then uh, yeah [886.41] Curry: Yes, I know I still have it [887.69] Curry: It's I think the 109 was the five inch and then it's the one one nine six inch and one two nine seven inch [893.37] Curry: They still have that one. Yeah, and I think it came with [897.05] Curry: I can't remember which is which but usually they had quite bad cameras, which the [902.57] Curry: Was very narrow. So you if you flew it first off [905.37] Curry: It was kind of like you do a turn but it's just like it doesn't feel like turning [908.81] Curry: It just feels like the landscape's moving past because it's so narrow. So yeah, you replace that [913.85] Curry: And replace some other bits and it's an open quad still [916.97] Stephen: They were widely hailed as a wonderful great value weight to buy a set of parts that you wouldn't fly in that configuration [925.79] Al Mac: Well, i'll be straight up i'll be i'm surprised [930.03] Al Mac: Curried it you even still had yours or have your original because I went through two escs before I even got it off the ground [938.03] Al Mac: Banggood sent me another one and then I finally eventually I bought an off-white stack and stuck it in there [943.87] Al Mac: I never had an issue ever [946.75] Stephen: Yeah, it was they cut a few corners to get that price [950.27] Curry: I think in all the gyros the [953.07] Curry: The erc survived. I think i've still got ercs and the two big ones the six inches in bits at the moment because it had a [959.71] Curry: Uh a different setup in the the five inch and the three inch I gave away [963.95] Curry: to people yeah, but um, yeah, I think one of the [967.95] Curry: I had a dodgy flight control in one of them where the camera output didn't work and that that was all so [973.55] Curry: Sometimes I just get lucky and my stuff works most of the stuff I get sent just doesn't work [978.67] Curry: Like anybody else's is fine. It works [981.15] Al Mac: Well [982.11] Al Mac: Also, it could have been settings. I wasn't even aware of at the time. I could have had some crazy [987.47] Al Mac: I don't know. You know what I mean? But [989.95] Al Mac: You know because uh, yeah in bihale it just alone just so you can say if you got something wrong or something off or something [995.47] Al Mac: Yeah, something something can happen. There's a lot of bad designs [999.31] Stephen: Yeah [1000.11] Stephen: and I think with it's kind of nice that we're moving away from [1004.43] Stephen: Like these bihale 32 emcs where everyone was kind of going their own way and throwing stuff at the wall and seeing what's stuck and [1011.87] Stephen: It's kind of nice with am32 that [1015.07] Stephen: It's pulling back the curtain a little bit on these designs [1018.51] Stephen: And if if something's a bad design you can straight up look at the target and be like well [1023.07] Stephen: Maybe you shouldn't have used that component because that's causing problems. Yeah [1027.71] Al Mac: That's another topic am32 i've been uh [1031.79] Al Mac: I've been flashing them for [1034.91] Al Mac: Uh, I don't even know a year and a half now [1037.23] Al Mac: I can't even remember since the first time i've ever contacted pete smith's which is the uh, [1042.99] Al Mac: Developer creator of am32 hell of a guy and a really nice guy [1048.67] Al Mac: But he uh [1050.83] Al Mac: In the beginning he didn't really think uh, d shot 2400 was adequate or necessary [1056.99] Al Mac: Because you know beta flight only calls for a d shot 600 [1061.15] Al Mac: So I pressed him upon it. I'm like, hey man, what about his kiss guys? You know, we like to run d shot 2400 [1066.51] Al Mac: That's what we do. That's what the [1068.67] Al Mac: You know the pit loop requires all this other stuff [1072.27] Al Mac: Eventually got him to do that. It took a while to get it, right? But [1076.59] Al Mac: Um, it's yeah, it's it's I like it. I like what he's doing over there. He's got [1082.59] Al Mac: unit, which is uh, one of his biggest helpers over or biggest, you know, endeavors over there and [1088.19] Al Mac: Uh in the configutor, I mean everything's just caught guns coming such a [1093.39] Al Mac: You know drastically in such a short period of time. They've got all kinds of things going on but [1099.31] Stephen: Yeah, it's working out. Shout out to ikey doing great work. Keep on keeping on [1106.11] Stephen: Yeah, they've come a long way in a short amount of time. It's um, i'm kind of glad that they're with that [1111.63] Stephen: Uh kind of surprising announcement that bl. Heli 32 was going to be blocked with uh trade export restrictions [1119.15] Stephen: Okay [1120.75] Stephen: I was kind of worried that something might happen [1122.75] Stephen: I was thinking, you know just one player in this field who's doing it closed source and [1128.11] Stephen: You know if they can't they were acting as like a license server for all these manufacturers and the instant they went away [1134.75] Stephen: You know that they were just [1136.99] Stephen: Unable to ship new products. So kind of glad that am32 was there. There was some discontinuity, but [1143.39] Stephen: basically, everyone's just [1145.39] Stephen: bounced their ranges of escs and done a [1148.35] Stephen: You know same hardware new firmware range of whatever was out there before and now all that same stuff's running [1154.33] Stephen: M32 and being shipped from the factory with am32 flashed which is yeah awesome to see really [1160.19] Curry: Yeah [1161.31] Curry: so how is the flashing on am32 because [1164.35] Curry: I keep seeing you guys wave st links around and I know jack [1169.23] Curry: Screwed one up. Are we talking about like pogo pins? [1173.39] Curry: Putting onto an esc and doing it not not a nice yet use a photo [1178.67] Al Mac: It's a great idea [1179.79] Al Mac: I don't use a pogo pin. Actually what I do is I take two breadboard wires and I tape them together [1185.55] Al Mac: And I trim the prongs [1187.79] Al Mac: And equal I bend them together to where they exactly match to the pads on the esc [1194.19] Al Mac: Sure, here are your pads [1196.75] Al Mac: On the back of the esc [1198.91] Al Mac: obviously, and that correlates with each esc and then [1202.91] Al Mac: You simply get in your computer. I bring this one put this onto the ground of your just your main ground on the esc [1211.31] Al Mac: And then I just touch that bad boy there and I use the other hand while i'm holding it and I hurry up and hit load [1217.71] Al Mac: And well, obviously have have everything ready to go and you kill program [1222.19] Al Mac: Sounds very coordinated. Well done. Yes. Yes [1225.71] Al Mac: Once you do it once though, man, it's it's it's like [1228.75] Al Mac: Yeah, it's obviously not recommended for everybody and not everybody's going to even try to do it [1234.19] Al Mac: but if you're like anything like us or and you know, I I just [1238.51] Al Mac: I like I like things that are very complicated. I like things that the bigger the mess [1242.83] Stephen: I always feel like it needed three arms to do what you just described, right? [1246.27] Stephen: Like I have kind of that pinch there and that pinch there and I kind of get everything [1249.87] Stephen: I have to sort of just slap it down to the table and just like try not to move that hand [1254.91] Stephen: I had the soldering. I just sold those onto the tiny pads and just [1259.07] Stephen: Then quickly tip tip tip with like an eye tip or something. You can do that [1263.71] Al Mac: You can do that. But I probably I've flashed [1267.87] Al Mac: I've flashed several of these. Um, I just did a few just past week or two weeks [1273.71] Al Mac: You know right here. So I so I'm just it's easier for me to just instead of getting in there with a little soldering iron and stuff [1280.67] Al Mac: you know [1281.63] Al Mac: it's just easier to [1283.87] Al Mac: kind of [1285.55] Stephen: Yeah, if you've got a nice big ESC like the 30 by 30 that that works pretty well [1289.79] Stephen: Oh, yeah, and he works 20 is quite a bit crowded and I've done a [1293.47] Stephen: One or two aio's as well with like bl heli 32 aio's [1298.35] Stephen: And those things like they don't even have the pads next to each other like one pad will be on [1303.23] Stephen: Like one side of the mcu and the other pad will be like half an inch away over there [1308.19] Stephen: Yeah, right, right. You have to like yeah. Yeah [1311.55] Stephen: Trial and narrow them until you get a signal on the thing [1314.51] Al Mac: Yeah, yeah, I haven't ran into that issue yet, which I don't fly 20 by 20. I have one that I just flashed [1321.95] Al Mac: And it was actually I dropped it on the floor underneath me right before the show [1328.11] Al Mac: Is [1329.39] Jack: No, it's still alive man [1331.63] Stephen: Yeah after like 10 hours of loving like intensive care like that thing was on life support [1338.27] Al Mac: No, it wasn't on my chair [1340.51] Al Mac: It was under my chair [1342.59] Al Mac: There it is [1345.32] Al Mac: On this little guy here, but it wasn't bad [1348.44] Jack: Are you missing a gummy? [1350.52] Al Mac: What are we up there? Yeah, what's that little guy? [1353.72] Al Mac: That is a team motor [1356.6] Al Mac: T motor [1360.68] Al Mac: It was an eco eco board I think or something that's a little 20 by 20, isn't it? Yeah, we little 20 by 20 [1368.2] Al Mac: Yeah [1369.48] Al Mac: But um, yeah [1372.12] Al Mac: Yeah, a little guy [1373.88] Jack: I um, I put my mouse on the floor and then line it up and then hit it with my foot [1379.4] Jack: Put your mouse on the floor [1384.12] Jack: Yeah, unplug my mouse put it on the floor and then you use your hands and just step on the mouse [1389.88] Al Mac: Yeah, step on the mouse one. Whatever we're out here with your nose. I mean, whatever you gotta do. Yeah [1395.64] Jack: That's it [1396.92] Jack: but yeah, I [1399.88] Jack: Like since that flashing tool steven you showed me I think that was my barrier to entry [1406.76] Stephen: Thank you, andrew andrew andrew shows well [1411.08] Stephen: Um, yeah, that's an incredibly useful little tool because I was just showing my bag of bits and i've got [1417.64] Stephen: not just a [1419.32] Stephen: St link v2. I mean, yeah, heck we've got st link v2s here [1424.6] Stephen: Like that guy i'm not going to try and focus the camera. Yeah, that's really good st link v2 [1429.64] Stephen: But i've also got an st link v2 [1432.12] Stephen: Where I flashed new firmware onto the st link. So that's the cm sys dapp adapter [1436.92] Stephen: So you can do debugging on that for generic mcu types and and then we've got this [1442.6] Stephen: Bugly boy, which is an at link. This is a bespoke [1448.28] Stephen: Programming board for archery tech which is on any anytime you see like an f4 or f3 [1454.92] Stephen: Mcu on an esc. It's an archery tech one. It's not an st link. Well, see I use the st link for uh, [1465.16] Stephen: Some people have done but it used to be you've had to get one of those or do all sorts of right, right, right, right [1471.08] Jack: Yeah, because i've only seen those at links on dev boards and they're like attached to the top [1477.32] Jack: Yeah, yeah [1480.36] Al Mac: Yeah [1481.64] Al Mac: like I said, I use um [1483.48] Al Mac: teal programmers and like it I don't know why I I don't know I [1487.72] Al Mac: Bring that up with it. Just [1489.56] Al Mac: It works the best for me. Well, I can see [1492.6] Al Mac: Yeah, and I could see exactly what what it's what it's doing [1496.28] Al Mac: I can manipulate the code put the bootloader in right in real time with the code and that's kind of like it [1501.4] Stephen: Whatever, but you just flashed everything in one hit then you just uh, yeah [1505.96] Stephen: Flash the bootloader fresh the firmware at the same time. Yeah. Yeah [1509.56] Al Mac: Kind of I go ahead and I just I build the project and then boom it's ready [1513.88] Al Mac: Just shoot it right in [1517.53] Stephen: I didn't have the patience to set up keel [1519.45] Stephen: But yeah, I did that a few times just from the programmer. Just lay down the firmware lay down a blanky prom [1525.37] Stephen: lay down the [1527.37] Stephen: The bootloader and firmware as well at the same time. Yep [1531.05] Al Mac: Yeah [1533.21] Stephen: You want to just get it done and get it up and boot it as quickly as possible. Yeah [1537.77] Al Mac: Yeah [1540.25] Al Mac: Yeah, try not to flash two boot loaders at the same time also [1544.41] Stephen: Yeah [1545.85] Stephen: Yeah, let's see those little boards. They're fairly resilient, you know, oh dude. Yeah, I'm impressed with what you can get away with [1552.17] Al Mac: I had a reaper that I I put the wrong bootloader on it twice by just the accident [1557.93] Al Mac: Yes, because I was because I was doing something different [1560.89] Al Mac: Dude, I was doing three different escs that day [1563.29] Stephen: And I just as long as you sanity check and you're like connected to the configuration go is this thing what it says it is? [1570.25] Stephen: Like yeah. Oh, wait, wait. No, that's the wrong brand entire. Nope. Nope. Nope. Nope. No [1574.65] Stephen: So I don't actually like put a motor on the thing [1577.21] Stephen: I'm trying like power up the freight phases because you're probably like fry some the output stages then right exactly before then it's all good [1584.33] Al Mac: Yep. Yep. Yep. Yep [1589.21] Al Mac: Yeah, it was pretty actually it's in the quad right now. It's in this one. This is my uh [1595.37] Stephen: Am 32 test. So what should we go to build them? What kind of frames and motors and stuff? Do you fly? [1601.29] Al Mac: um, I [1603.13] Al Mac: well [1604.33] Stephen: Everything it looks like to me [1608.41] Al Mac: He likes to fly ultra so what was he putting with that I fly the apex [1615.53] Al Mac: I fly the apex. Uh, it just seems to be I mean I when I crashed I crashed really fast and hard [1622.33] Al Mac: Um, i've only broke one arm and it was coming off of a 10 story building bouncing between two of them [1628.49] Al Mac: Uh, that was the only time i've ever broken an arm on an apex [1634.17] Al Mac: Yeah, they're they're really tough. Um [1637.05] Al Mac: Other than that, uh, like I said, it's always kiss ultra or kiss or [1641.37] Al Mac: Uh, and the motors these are happen to be the vani motors [1645.93] Al Mac: And I like them a lot and [1648.41] Stephen: They're pretty durable. What are those rebrands of who's the oem that makes the vanimosis? That is a hype train [1655.29] Stephen: Yeah, but they're just a rebrand so what factory do they come out of [1659.93] Al Mac: I'm not uh [1661.77] Al Mac: I'm not sure actually i'm 100 percent. I always thought that hype train was uh [1666.81] Stephen: No, I mean they're just like they're paying someone else to make the motors and then you know, they just label on the side [1672.17] Jack: Yeah [1673.61] Stephen: Well, it's like a rotor ride thing, but yeah. Yeah, but I mean rotor ride don't have a factory right there [1679.13] Al Mac: Well, no, but that's what I thought hype train or yeah, i'm 100 percent [1683.53] Al Mac: I mean tiger motors tiger motors kind of have like [1687.13] Stephen: So I think there's only like there's three or four big players that [1691.61] Stephen: They actually do the winding of the coils and they do this templey and then they'll just like put your logo on the side [1697.85] Stephen: And it'll be like, you know [1699.69] Stephen: Yeah, or it'll say [1702.01] Jack: Steel or it'll say whatever probably the same as the luminaire ones because they were [1708.73] Jack: You know, they were really tight with like fpv weren't they back in the day? [1713.93] Stephen: Yeah, I don't know. They just don't really look like this is the weird thing about fpv. There's like dirty little secrets like uh outside of you know [1722.89] Stephen: Alex's stuff where he's making those boards you look at anything that's coming out of the big stores. It's made by [1729.85] Stephen: Whether it's fcs or motors or escs [1733.37] Stephen: They're made by like three or four main brands and some of them have in-house brands [1737.69] Stephen: But a lot of the time they're just doing like outsourcing work for other companies [1741.77] Stephen: Someone sends them a design is like I want a motor that's this kind of spec or on an fc [1746.73] Stephen: That's like an f7 with this and that and they just you know [1750.65] Stephen: Take a reference design and maybe customize it a little bit and then just do it for that person [1756.41] Stephen: um [1757.21] Stephen: So, you know unless it's coming out of like sky stars or someone like this then, you know [1762.57] Stephen: They're not making necessarily their own kit and motors are especially true [1767.37] Stephen: There are a lot of them by chinese brands that you can't pronounce [1770.81] Stephen: But the motors they make have very well known well marketed subbrands that you definitely be familiar with [1778.09] Al Mac: Right, right. Well, yeah, like they call it with gray labeling or whatever. Yeah. Yeah [1783.21] Stephen: Odm stuff like that, right? [1785.77] Al Mac: Yeah, um, I I think uh, I heard that like luminaire I thought they were also tiger motors [1792.09] Al Mac: Which is like tiger motors like t-motor. I guess it's not to do with that. I guess [1797.05] Al Mac: but um, yeah, I have like a [1799.85] Al Mac: You know a big [1801.21] Al Mac: Big hold on the market as far as like a motor, uh production or whatever [1806.17] Al Mac: Yeah, and then other than that here like this is my [1809.21] Al Mac: Kiss off your ball tara quad. I actually got the beylocks or bail. However, you say that beylocks [1815.69] Al Mac: So anymore I kind of try a little bit of anything but for the longest time I flew nothing but mr [1820.97] Al Mac: Steele like, you know, I mean mr. Steele matters [1824.57] Frank: This episode was recorded in front of a live online audience downloaded and edited to make sense when it played audio only [1831.37] Frank: Sensors to please the itunes people hosted on the internet forwarded through to your podcast provider [1836.09] Frank: Downloaded playing on your device and is now playing in your ears all thanks to our patreons [1841.93] Frank: Consider joining them and you'll also get other online benefits find out more at patreon.com [1848.41] Stephen: Let's drone out [1850.09] Stephen: So do you go for any unusual sizes? [1851.93] Stephen: You know some people like steal on that every now and then they throw throw a wild card in there [1856.25] Stephen: Do you go for any unusual bits and pieces motors like the big fat ones big tall motors or anything like that? [1862.33] Al Mac: I used to be a big fan of 2407 meters [1865.37] Al Mac: Oh, yeah, I like the bigger motor like I think they're more durable [1872.65] Al Mac: But uh, I'll tell you what's a weird motor that I had for a while [1878.09] Al Mac: Oh, I sent them off. Um [1880.33] Al Mac: Worthy, uh, they were a popo motor made by mr. Steele. Oh, yeah people [1886.01] Al Mac: You managed to get the damn things to stay on yeah, I couldn't get them on [1891.29] Al Mac: I couldn't get them to lock for the longest time so i'd put a net on [1894.81] Al Mac: And then here you had to grease them up a little bit get it worked out and then it was and they weren't fun [1899.69] Al Mac: But um, i'm i'm a big uh peanut butter jelly, uh prop guy [1904.57] Al Mac: So like that's all I run usually i'm actually gonna test the knees out. These are the new uh gem fan proxy [1910.97] Al Mac: props [1912.25] Al Mac: Uh, these are the whiskey [1915.77] Al Mac: Yeah, I like I don't like a high high pitch so these are [1920.25] Al Mac: Just about where they need to be, you know, so so what are they like? [1924.65] Al Mac: These are the 20 they're [1927.77] Al Mac: 51 27.5 or 28.5. I got the [1933.69] Jack: I'm now i'm now the age where I can't read the [1937.77] Jack: propped markings [1939.75] Al Mac: 27.5. That's what it is [1947.69] Stephen: For a while I was collecting all these different prop sizes, but it kind of got out of hand because my system is [1954.25] Stephen: My system is this [1956.89] Stephen: Oh god, that is that is the prop drawer [1960.17] Stephen: And the prop drawer is now full and I ain't breaking them quick enough [1964.01] Stephen: So I can't get any more experimental prop sizes because I just have to put them on the floor and then the dog chews them [1969.85] Stephen: That's uh, that's some work [1972.81] Al Mac: Uh speak yeah, well speaking of props and trying out different props, uh, these are these macro [1980.49] Al Mac: This is my seven inch this is also an apex seven [1983.61] Al Mac: This is uh, this is yeah, this is kiss ultra, but this is [1990.41] Al Mac: Yeah [1991.61] Al Mac: This is a really [1993.53] Al Mac: Beautiful quad. It flies just so amazing [1996.73] Al Mac: honestly, it took a little while to get her tuned up and ready but um [2000.33] Al Mac: She flies it's kind of yeah [2003.37] Al Mac: It is it is and I think that was why she was so difficult to tune [2008.09] Al Mac: Maybe [2009.29] Al Mac: Because just just how close everything is kind of sandwiched in maybe I don't know I could expect [2016.89] Al Mac: Pretty close, aren't they? Yeah. Yeah, you can't even get your finger. You can't even put your finger between it [2022.81] Stephen: That's going to be a cool chair because you got a little bit of wash between the front and the back [2026.81] Al Mac: Exactly. I had to I had to put on uh, um, I had to black box it obviously and I had to find [2033.69] Al Mac: The noise which is 151 hertz [2035.77] Al Mac: I had to apply an odds filter in between one and 200 to get it to even [2040.57] Al Mac: Uh like me anymore. So eventually I was able to get it to uh stop [2047.53] Al Mac: Moving around a lot and then once that I locked her in and now she's [2052.09] Al Mac: Like walked like I can freestyle that like I can apply it and stuff like it's yeah, it's pretty [2057.29] Stephen: Do you get a nice uh field of view then with the dead cat that all the props out of you? [2062.57] Al Mac: Uh [2063.69] Al Mac: really, actually [2066.17] Al Mac: I just did a plate yet, uh the other day [2069.21] Al Mac: and even in the um [2071.29] Al Mac: Even in the hd camera, I could still see just a slight [2075.53] Stephen: Uh, you know, they got a five inch frame and they're just like long armed a five inch frame [2080.09] Stephen: So I was always wondering how you deal with that [2084.09] Al Mac: It was it was one of the downfalls of that frame and uh, you know, I hate to I don't like to trash it but [2090.65] Al Mac: This is not it's not big enough to receive like your typical long range battery [2096.33] Stephen: Up here. It's five inch frame, isn't it? [2098.97] Al Mac: It is it is it is the five inch frame just with seven inch arms with some braces essentially [2104.97] Al Mac: um, but [2106.81] Stephen: Yeah, but you can freestyle it. So hey [2109.85] Al Mac: Well, well i'm moving on to a uh, uh 10 inch i'm building the next couple weeks here [2116.97] Al Mac: And uh, I actually ordered the frame i'll give him a shout out bad for life fpv he uh designed the frame [2125.61] Al Mac: and uh [2126.89] Al Mac: But yeah, it's it's got a whole different [2129.93] Al Mac: It's got a little more wider [2132.65] Al Mac: stanter, you know [2134.41] Al Mac: uh wheelbase and [2136.49] Curry: So yeah, so now when I look at your youtube output, it's it's very varied [2141.93] Curry: There's a lot of like trying stuff out seeing what happens doing some freestyle. Is there any particular projects? [2149.37] Curry: or [2150.09] Curry: Goals you're working towards in uh in your flying or your your video making [2156.41] Al Mac: Um, my main goal is just to be able to just go out and fly and don't have to worry about tuning [2163.21] Al Mac: and like [2164.33] Al Mac: That would be nice [2165.69] Al Mac: you know, um, my like my [2168.33] Al Mac: What energizes me to even make anything is to tell somebody about something I found [2174.09] Al Mac: Uh that was easier or you know, just something that applies really nice. Um [2179.53] Al Mac: Yeah, like that's that's that's what motivates me to make anything if you notice any of my videos [2184.49] Al Mac: It's usually i'm trying to tell you about something that I found that I think works really well [2189.77] Al Mac: Uh, that's really my driving [2192.41] Al Mac: Wars or whatnot [2194.09] Al Mac: but um [2195.21] Al Mac: yeah, um [2197.21] Al Mac: I don't have any like [2199.21] Al Mac: There ain't no aspiration to being like a youtube star. That's the damn sure but [2203.93] Stephen: What's your like pet subject if you want to tell people like one message about fpv to like fix this one thing [2210.33] Stephen: What is it you think? [2213.76] Al Mac: stay tuned [2215.84] Al Mac: Just as I mean like, you know what I mean? [2218.96] Al Mac: I for the first couple years in fpv. I just felt like I did nothing but tuned [2223.52] Al Mac: I just felt like every time I was going out with the most valuable day [2227.36] Al Mac: I would have to go out and fly I was worried about how the quad was going to fly. You know what I mean? [2232.64] Al Mac: So like that that led me down to where like I was obsessed over just constantly tuning and making sure my quad fly [2239.2] Al Mac: flew really good [2241.04] Al Mac: uh, and yeah, so like, you know, I just think that [2246.72] Al Mac: We should just be blessed with just gears just works and the slides amazing [2251.92] Al Mac: Yeah, I mean that way we can just go out and do exactly what we want to do when we go out [2255.92] Al Mac: And that's just to fly and have have fun. I don't have to worry about anything [2260.96] Stephen: And I just curry's kind of resilient. I think i'm more like, uh fussy about my tunes curry is [2267.28] Stephen: You know, he'll go out there and like doing something around [2270.88] Curry: With I will just go out there and if it doesn't fly it's like let's we'll just get on the sticks harder and make it fly [2278.08] Curry: That's that's old school way of doing things. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah [2281.36] Jack: Try to fly you mate [2283.36] Jack: I could fly some bags of [2287.6] Stephen: Yeah, we we can do the freestyle moves we're just going to go up to 50 meter altitude and do the moves up there [2293.04] Stephen: It'll be fun [2294.96] Jack: That's how much space you need. You're not out of control. You're not in control [2301.2] Curry: Yeah, i'm just [2302.8] Curry: Flying flying and having the time to fly is a precious thing and I totally get why you don't want to just be out there tuning [2309.28] Curry: Which is why I just don't do it. I was like just just fly and if it flies half decent [2314.16] Curry: That's good enough. I'm not i'm not going to fiddle to get that little extra 10 percent [2318.16] Curry: It's just like that'll do and I can have fun with it [2321.04] Curry: It's like when you go out and everything fails and you just go back with the bag of stuff. That's that's not as much fun [2327.44] Curry: That's a horrible [2330.24] Al Mac: It's like well when I first like, you know [2332.32] Al Mac: Bring it back like when I first got into fpb my very first setup because you know [2336.88] Al Mac: I was broke back then or whatever. I was just getting my life back together [2340.32] Al Mac: And my first action camera was a hero 3 with no stabilization. No like super view nothing [2346.48] Al Mac: so like [2347.68] Al Mac: It would see everything that quad you're going to see every single thing that quad is doing in the air [2353.04] Al Mac: and that's before gyro flow and all that or you know all that stuff any of that stuff so like [2358.96] Al Mac: I I obsessed over the tune on my quad. I [2363.04] Al Mac: my beta play quads flew [2365.04] Al Mac: Amazing like they flew freaking amazing for that reason, you know, and that's why I don't fly stabilization to this day [2372.64] Al Mac: In fact, I just tried stabilization for the second time just the other day [2377.36] Al Mac: and I just obsessed over like [2380.16] Al Mac: Yeah, just a smooth flying quad the way you don't need any of that. You know, it's it's attainable. It's always attainable. It's yeah [2389.84] Stephen: You might need to [2391.04] Stephen: Retune if you fly on a windy day, you just got to be prepared for a little bit of that [2396.0] Al Mac: Yeah, um, it's uh, yeah, that's one thing I like about kiss ultra. It's it's resilient [2402.24] Al Mac: It's always it's very consistent and very organic and it just works every single time, dude [2408.64] Al Mac: I have this this quad right here [2412.16] Al Mac: This is my my yeah this one my tester quad this this [2417.2] Al Mac: Fc has been under hot air several times. I had to report. I put a tbs diode on it and a back on it [2424.8] Al Mac: Replace some caps on it [2427.68] Al Mac: It's been through howling back and it still flies like it's a brand new freaking play controller [2432.08] Al Mac: I mean these things are just [2433.84] Al Mac: Bulletproof dude. I yeah, I blew it up. I hooked it up backwards by accident one night live [2439.52] Al Mac: On the stream. I had the power backwards like an idiot [2442.4] Al Mac: I don't even know it was in the plug and I was yeah, it was one of them stupid moments, but uh [2447.12] Jack: So, yeah, this is ultra v1 or ultra v2. This is all v2. Yeah [2454.08] Stephen: Yeah, yeah, what about video systems then what are you rocking there? I run nothing but v2 and vista [2463.04] Al Mac: But with my uh 10 inch, uh, I think i'm gonna do [2469.6] Stephen: Um [2472.96] Al Mac: Well, I think I want to go [2474.64] Al Mac: I think I want to do that because i'm swinging 10-inch props and I want to make sure I have a good [2479.68] Al Mac: Good thing. I could see what i'm doing really good [2483.28] Al Mac: but uh [2484.48] Al Mac: Yeah [2485.68] Stephen: That and then you'll be like a mile away 2k away before you know, what's going on with the 10-inch quad [2491.12] Stephen: You need a bit of range [2493.12] Al Mac: Yeah [2493.84] Al Mac: This the seven inch here is like it's my analog quad and it's made to just go like i'll send that thing 10 miles [2500.88] Al Mac: I don't care. I'm confident. I know that's another thing. I got brag about kiss ultra [2505.68] Al Mac: They have a return to home [2507.36] Al Mac: It just works like you said it [2509.92] Al Mac: And that thing you hit the switch it comes back every time and I actually had a fail safe when I hit this tower [2514.88] Al Mac: Over here must have been blaring 900 megs because I dropped everything and that thing because screaming back my way man [2521.76] Al Mac: So it it works. It just works and that's what I love about it. You know what I mean, but I can't show [2527.76] Al Mac: Crossfire [2529.84] Al Mac: Uh, I run crossfire on my long range. I run tracer on all my freestyle [2535.2] Curry: I haven't gotten that one out for a while. I think uh, yeah still going to trace not many people tracer fans these days [2541.44] Al Mac: Yeah, I was I was resounding [2544.24] Al Mac: Yeah, the ghost. I wanted to try ghost and I never got to it. Um, because i've got into tracer, but [2551.28] Al Mac: Um [2552.32] Stephen: Are they still selling tracer gear? [2555.04] Al Mac: Oh, yeah, yeah, I just I was just testing firmware for tracer just uh, not too long ago [2562.32] Al Mac: You know, they're getting into low raw [2564.64] Al Mac: 500 hertz and stuff like that. Oh cool [2567.84] Al Mac: Yeah, see anyone can test it actually. Um, I think it's still up. I don't know 100 percent [2572.64] Al Mac: If you're interested you can stop every my discord. Yeah, I mean [2576.32] Stephen: I've had them. I yeah, I went for tracer for a while and I was just getting uh [2582.16] Stephen: I'm getting a bit annoyed at the the signal [2584.56] Stephen: So I just uh dropped that and moved over to elrs and i'm just 500 hertz elrs everywhere now [2592.8] Al Mac: Yeah, I have elrs too. Yeah, I I put that uh, I give away a quad every once in a while and stuff [2597.44] Al Mac: And I usually use the elrs, uh, you know and set it up and I ran elrs for a while, but [2603.2] Al Mac: um [2604.32] Al Mac: I I just when I tried tracer [2606.8] Al Mac: Um, you know, I didn't want to have to spend the extra money [2610.4] Al Mac: But there was something there like I thought there was it's just my opinion [2614.72] Al Mac: Not you know me but so I went [2618.0] Stephen: Easy firmware flash where you just press a button at 70 somewhere else the receiver, you know [2622.32] Al Mac: It's what i'm all about and it's not an amazing. It's just I like things to just work. You know, I mean [2628.0] Al Mac: over the uh [2629.6] Stephen: Yeah crossfire and tracer [2631.12] Stephen: They did have that thing where you just set up your radio and press a button and flash the rx [2635.92] Al Mac: My radio seems if it just sees that it's not even it'll just automatically just start booting up and updating like [2643.52] Al Mac: So like it's pretty uh, it's pretty nice [2645.84] Stephen: Yeah, I I wonder how long tracer is going to have that for before someone elrs goes [2650.4] Stephen: Oh, that's how you do it and then in like a month place for all the elrs stuff would do it [2655.28] Al Mac: They still got the repo up there for crsf or whatever your day [2660.88] Stephen: Oh, yeah, they keep talking about that. Like let's standardize it. Let's standardize it and uh [2666.16] Stephen: Yeah, trapeze like really quiet and then someone's like oh [2668.8] Stephen: We've discovered this function that we just like fuzzed this receiver and found out it did this thing [2673.84] Stephen: Is that part of the standard? Oh, yeah. Yeah, it's been there all along [2677.12] Stephen: It's not that message. It's been there all along [2679.6] Al Mac: Yeah [2682.08] Al Mac: I'd say it's fine when I when like I hate these this division like I hate when people you know are like [2688.88] Al Mac: Well crossfire f crossfire the elrs or elrs screw elrs this and this and that and it's like well [2695.36] Al Mac: Neither of them would they work with each other? They work with each like, you know, you can't have elrs without crsf [2701.68] Al Mac: But you know, I mean like, you know, and i'm saying like, I don't know. It's just kind of [2706.0] Stephen: Kind of weird. Yeah, it's a it's a common language. It's usually it's about lingua franca [2711.04] Stephen: Everyone speaks crf. So [2713.6] Al Mac: Yeah [2714.4] Stephen: It means you can use it on ancient radios as well. So yeah [2717.92] Stephen: Find a radio that was uh [2719.92] Stephen: Was the firmware was built with like 900 megahertz crossfire in mind [2724.56] Stephen: And all of a sudden, you know tracer works on it els works on it. It's just got the same [2729.76] Stephen: Underpaint [2731.12] Al Mac: Yeah [2733.58] Al Mac: Let's see rp3 rx fun purple to els rp3. What's that? Is that like a radio master? I think [2741.66] Stephen: Oh [2742.94] Al Mac: Okay [2745.18] Al Mac: Is that 2.4 or 900 [2748.3] Stephen: Hurry, you've probably got these kicking around. Does the rp3 ring the bell? [2752.94] Curry: I'll ask mr. Google bell. I think it's a 2.4 and I want to say it sounds like it's a [2761.02] Curry: 4 gig nano receiver from radio master. Yeah, it's a radio master. Fair enough [2767.66] Stephen: I'd probably got one of the quads. Yeah, the the the r ones that those are all radio master [2772.38] Stephen: The rps [2773.82] Stephen: All right. Oh, it's it's one of these tiny ones with the dual antares [2777.9] Stephen: Oh, right [2779.9] Stephen: All the newest and greatest temperature controlled oscillator dual radio [2784.78] Stephen: stupid tiny footprint [2787.9] Curry: My my um, my ers shelf is is up there somewhere. So it's probably in the box [2793.66] Curry: But I've still got to look at that [2795.58] Curry: That weird dual band thing to put that on something [2799.02] Curry: Which has four antennas just to make it easy to put on our quad [2803.34] Stephen: Oh, yeah [2804.3] Stephen: Have you tried 900 megahertz with like 1000 hertz refresh? [2807.9] Stephen: That was the latest feature they dropped up with that that was attractive to me [2812.7] Al Mac: Because that was my biggest gripe with uh crossfire itself like actual crossfire is why I moved away is because it was eliminated [2820.46] Al Mac: 150 or yeah 150 hertz 150 on a good day and it fall down to 100 I think yeah [2826.62] Al Mac: Yeah [2827.66] Al Mac: No, I was just going to make a comment about steven's axis on the wall behind him there [2831.82] Stephen: So, yeah, I just uh, I just got the the yellow guy, uh, ibanez rg550 and desert yellow [2838.62] Al Mac: Right on and you got the last part there. Is that an epiphan or gibson? Oh, no that [2844.38] Stephen: That guy is uh, very much of the chinese knockoff variety. Okay [2850.14] Stephen: And the other guy is a chinese knockoff variety base, but the one in the middle is the real deal [2855.26] Al Mac: right [2857.18] Al Mac: Gotcha [2858.54] Al Mac: Yeah, I play a little I have a uh [2860.14] Al Mac: I got a mahogany top, uh, left ball [2864.54] Al Mac: Nice, um, then I have a uh, red [2867.74] Al Mac: maroon like this [2869.5] Al Mac: a catallic, uh strat [2871.74] Al Mac: There's just like dean weans from wean the band wean [2875.42] Al Mac: um [2877.18] Al Mac: And uh, yeah, so I play I play a little actually I have one tattooed alarm with my name. Oh, wow [2884.54] Stephen: Just a little bit just a little bit just a little bit of this tattoo a little bit. Uh, yeah [2890.54] Stephen: Yeah [2892.38] Stephen: My house is a shape for a giant guitar, but it's just a little thing [2899.74] Stephen: Yeah, that's that guy yeah, it looks like a gentle guitar, but it's actually like a active pickup, uh, [2905.58] Stephen: metal monster and I got the [2908.22] Stephen: ebanez to try and get something that was a little more gentle and uh melodic because [2914.94] Stephen: The the the black one up there is just useful for for giant power chords. It's got really high output [2922.38] Stephen: tremendously thick gain and it kind of [2926.06] Stephen: Feels more like using a club versus the guitar. It's uh after after picking up the new one all of a sudden [2934.38] Stephen: Yeah, i'm like wow, this is a delicate precision tool [2937.66] Stephen: Whereas the one I had before just feels like a a punk axe that you could club someone with [2943.42] Al Mac: Right [2944.62] Al Mac: Yeah, yeah [2947.02] Stephen: Anywho, sorry, this was supposed to be a drum podcast new podcast. Let's rock out [2952.06] Al Mac: That's my bad [2954.62] Jack: after after years of like [2957.82] Jack: Being sort of obsessed with tuning. Have you got can we can you talk through your process? We've got tips tricks gotchas [2966.54] Jack: Like have you noticed a change? [2969.42] Al Mac: uh, yeah, I mean [2971.74] Al Mac: I really [2974.06] Al Mac: You know, i'm no expert that's for sure but like what i've I learned how to black box [2979.74] Al Mac: Learn how to read what you're reading [2981.98] Al Mac: Or know what you're looking at [2984.94] Al Mac: You know how [2986.94] Al Mac: Your quad is behaving and how to understand how to read how your body your um, your quad is behaving [2992.7] Al Mac: Once you get that down [2994.62] Al Mac: There's nothing you can't tune [2998.22] Al Mac: Like and then now they got tools like, uh, um, what's macawit, uh pit toolbox [3005.1] Al Mac: Brian, you know pit toolbox. I mean they got all that [3008.7] Al Mac: Which makes it even like ridiculously easy to tune now. Um, and there's videos out there, you know that will walk you through that [3017.34] Al Mac: um [3018.3] Al Mac: I was uh, I used to tune a lot with uh [3022.14] Al Mac: uh, the pet tech alpha when it first come out and uh [3025.26] Al Mac: uh [3026.62] Al Mac: Yeah, so like that was when I really started getting into black box and trying to understand that and figure that out [3034.46] Al Mac: There was a there's a guy. Um goes by uh, tmac [3038.94] Al Mac: fpv [3040.54] Al Mac: What is I hope i'm saying that right tmac. I think his name was he actually had a very good comprehensive breakdown of how [3048.62] Al Mac: I don't even know this is years ago a couple years ago [3052.22] Al Mac: Uh, but yeah, he uh, he was a good source for understanding how to [3057.66] Al Mac: You know read read the black walks and understand [3060.14] Al Mac: You just want to make sure you set your set point your gyro that way [3063.26] Al Mac: You know what the quad was doing in the beginning and what what happened in between all that stuff, you know [3069.1] Al Mac: But that's my best advice to give anybody [3073.02] Al Mac: As far as you know [3075.02] Al Mac: And what i've learned or you could just buy a kiss ultra and a vaultara and just call it a day [3083.82] Stephen: Well, do you have time or money? [3086.78] Al Mac: Well, that's the thing that's another thing, you know, and I understand, you know people don't you know things [3093.02] Al Mac: um [3096.3] Al Mac: That's what you have to decide like regardless the hobby is not cheap [3101.74] Al Mac: By any means you have to decide whether you know [3105.98] Al Mac: Do I want one really good flying quad or I want two quads? [3109.02] Al Mac: They're gonna fly just decent or i'm gonna have to mess with their tune. I don't know that's it's you know, whatever but [3115.66] Stephen: Also, are you like uh, are you comfortable with with maths and understanding what intervals and differentials are or would you rather just like [3123.9] Stephen: That's someone else's problem. Give me the radio time to fly [3127.9] Al Mac: yeah, I mean [3129.26] Al Mac: I just try to steer clear from like any like [3133.26] Al Mac: You know [3134.38] Al Mac: I mean i'll get into whatever i'll do whatever I have to do obviously, you know when i'm [3140.14] Al Mac: Flashing boards and doing things like that and looking at code that I have no idea what i'm looking at at the time [3145.58] Al Mac: But like yeah, but it just works. It works. Hey, you know [3150.94] Stephen: But sometimes life's too short, right? I just want to yeah, exactly [3156.52] Al Mac: exactly, that's it [3159.48] Stephen: Yeah, I think we've kind of gone through you've heard your prop choice your frame choice like an apex guy going for gem fan [3166.76] Stephen: Being lured to the dark side with oh three [3169.96] Stephen: Very much a tracer guy [3173.16] Stephen: Yeah, what else have we got? [3176.28] Al Mac: Uh [3177.48] Al Mac: I like to fly [3179.64] Al Mac: Fast and stupid. I like the brakes though. Yeah, no, not really like aggressive freestyle [3184.68] Al Mac: Uh, yeah, I like to I like to make sure my quad is like, um wrapped really tight [3190.36] Al Mac: So it can take a 90 mile an hour roll [3193.96] Al Mac: On concrete or something, you know, whatever you fly like industrial areas or no, actually [3199.48] Al Mac: Well, I fly it's like I I fly my ballpark actually if you look at all my videos [3205.0] Al Mac: I've only been to a couple like abandoned hospitals and stuff like that [3209.0] Al Mac: Uh, where's where I broke the arm in that one video way back a couple years ago [3213.56] Al Mac: Um, but yeah, I usually fly it's my testing grounds. It's a ballpark on the other side of the valley here [3219.96] Al Mac: And I go down there and there's like some um bleachers and there's some places [3224.28] Al Mac: But it's really not a whole lot of kind of make the best of what I got [3228.36] Al Mac: but uh, yeah, um [3230.66] Al Mac: actually [3232.28] Al Mac: Uh in the future I plan on [3234.76] Al Mac: Kind of moving out and about and make you know causing some havoc, you know [3239.48] Al Mac: Finding some places to go but i'm always alone too [3242.6] Al Mac: so [3243.56] Al Mac: I'm like 40 minutes from pittsburgh and like nobody [3247.8] Al Mac: Around me. I i'm at one person that flies around here, but i'm we've never been here in the village [3255.56] Al Mac: Yeah [3257.64] Al Mac: Yeah, so like i've always been alone so i've never flown with anybody [3262.44] Al Mac: You know, believe it or not. Yeah [3265.8] Al Mac: Yeah, i'm a loner [3268.52] Jack: Exactly man. Hopefully you can find some people to fly with [3273.0] Jack: Hey [3275.72] Al Mac: Yeah, that's what I hear. That's what I hear [3277.8] Al Mac: It'll happen like I almost went to you know castle crash. They have events and stuff [3282.28] Al Mac: You know, there was this castle. I almost went to that by then work called and i'm a busy guy. I work full-time and [3288.44] Al Mac: I you know, so just stuff. I got a three-year-old that I chase around all the time. So it's like [3294.44] Al Mac: you know [3295.56] Al Mac: but uh [3296.6] Al Mac: Yeah, but not because that's respiratory disaster. Yeah, right. Right. Well, yeah when i'm out there testing [3302.92] Al Mac: He likes to hang around me and uh, yeah [3306.44] Stephen: What's the age where you're like, right [3308.6] Stephen: There's a work. Here's a radio off you go. I'm gonna do it next year [3312.84] Al Mac: Maybe later this year. I'm gonna start getting him into it because he was already curious [3316.52] Al Mac: He's always like right there next to me everything I do. So actually that's funny because I was just testing yesterday and um [3323.96] Al Mac: Yeah, and he he go I let him grab the quad and hand it to me [3327.96] Stephen: That's how you get the fast pilots man. You know, like uh, you're gonna give them that preschool quad training [3333.32] Al Mac: Yeah, yeah, he's into everything. He's into everything mechanical and everything and i'm into so it's it's working out [3340.44] Jack: Awesome. Yeah apple far from the tree [3345.32] Jack: Yep, yep, uh, so what's your next project you're gonna be working on my uh, the my 10-inch [3352.44] Al Mac: Um, it like I said, it's gonna be a kiss ultra ball tar. I got the uh, [3359.74] Al Mac: The kiss ultra the ball tar right here waiting for it. Nice. Oh, there it went [3365.74] Curry: I presume the frame has some bracing between the legs [3369.82] Al Mac: um, the frame I just ordered doesn't but he just designed some braces for me and uh [3376.86] Al Mac: Because I actually got the eight millimeter thick arms to the 10 millimeter thick arms kind of by accident [3382.7] Al Mac: So he designed some braces for me just in case I had some problems [3387.02] Al Mac: So, um, yeah, it's gonna be fun to play with and see what's see what's going on with it [3392.06] Stephen: I hope it's better than that big secure 10-inch [3394.86] Stephen: I think they're using seven alarms and it was all like [3398.94] Al Mac: Yeah [3400.22] Al Mac: Yeah [3401.58] Al Mac: Yeah, like every one of these quads behind me every single one of these quads [3405.82] Al Mac: Um, you can watch every single one of them because I built every single one of them live [3411.26] Al Mac: Like if I didn't finish it [3413.26] Al Mac: On like on a stream every tuesday at seven o'clock if I didn't finish it [3416.38] Al Mac: I'd wait till the following tuesday and I would finish it, you know for the for the live stream or whatnot [3422.54] Al Mac: So like yeah, you were ever curious of how I built any of those you could actually look back [3427.58] Stephen: See i'm going to guess that you used a soldering iron and a screwdriver [3433.34] Stephen: Hammer, uh hammer hammer is just the fastest way [3437.82] Stephen: You finish the build you don't necessarily get to fly it but it's finished it's done. Yeah. Yeah, absolutely [3447.96] Jack: Thank you, uh caroline asked how much payload would it have with a winky emoji [3454.52] Al Mac: Yeah [3455.88] Al Mac: I get I get that well on my seven inch. I got a few questions like uh, I had to remove a couple of them [3462.36] Al Mac: You know for obvious reasons [3465.08] Al Mac: Like the payload you get what i'm saying, but yeah, yeah [3469.24] Al Mac: um [3470.28] Al Mac: but um [3471.48] Al Mac: Yeah [3474.2] Jack: Hidden valley we were delivering biscuits to each other [3477.88] Jack: Which was fun. We had a great big biscuit trade [3481.72] Jack: of uh digestive [3485.16] Curry: My tennis was so convinced it should deliver something it dropped one of the batteries off from a corner [3490.76] Al Mac: Yeah [3492.76] Jack: Oh, man [3496.1] Jack: Well, we'll call it there. That's all we got time for [3499.62] Jack: Uh, let me just either [3502.1] Jack: play the banner [3503.62] Jack: uh and also [3506.58] Jack: Read the the the lovely patreon's off you guys have been awesome [3511.86] Jack: Thank you very much. You guys keep and support the show [3516.18] Jack: And keep us running and stop frank from throttling us to death [3520.9] Jack: um [3522.1] Jack: And yeah, thank you to everyone who tuned in [3525.7] Jack: It's been great having you and uh [3529.38] Jack: You've been enjoyed by everyone's favorite curry kitten [3532.82] Jack: Goodbye [3534.5] Jack: Uh, the man with the mustache stephen good evening and goodbye [3539.38] Jack: Uh the our guest for tonight our mark [3543.3] Jack: pilots [3545.14] Jack: um [3546.02] Jack: And a call to action, please in the let's run out discord or the email [3553.06] Jack: let's run out at gmail.com [3555.38] Jack: send us your [3557.78] Jack: Horror stories or RC related horror stories [3563.22] Jack: Yes, uh, yeah, hopefully we could dress up next week and uh, it'll be all funny [3569.78] Jack: And yeah, it'll be nice to have some to read off [3573.3] Jack: Uh, and i've been bright so far you'd be listening to let's try now. Don't forget tune in next week [3578.98] Jack: Thank you and good night [3581.3] Al Mac: It's been a pleasure. Thank you guys. Thanks.
