=====================================

[0.0] Jack: Hello, and you're listening to what's drawn out and special thank you to our lovely patrons that help donate so that we can pay the editor to remove the swear words and silly things we say massive thank you to Carlos campos art folk now Sam dharma on with the show.
[20.58] Jack: Hello, and welcome, you're listening to let's show you now the year is finally 2025.
[61.72] Stephen: It's 488 closing in on that elusive 500.
[66.88] Frank: I know this is the the the is that right? It's just the 10th year that we have podcasted in.
[75.88] Jack: Yeah.
[77.4] Stephen: It's like, I feel like we'll figure out eventually Frank, we'll get there. We just got to keep working.
[87.24] Jack: We have seen a decade of LTO.
[91.48] Frank: I feel like this is this is closest to true. I don't know.
[94.92] Stephen: I remember it's with Andy and his wisdom.
[100.6] Frank: Yeah, I think having video is a mistake, we should we should be back in the back in the really old days where everything was audio only, we couldn't see each other, we couldn't see what we were holding up. We didn't know what we look like.
[118.69] Stephen: See, that's how I found the show, right? I was like, videos, why would anyone put a video feed on top of what is clearly an audio medium like they're not even really moving that much, you could just have a couple cutout and it would work just as well. And here I am, I'm
[138.01] Stephen: some cases.
[140.09] Stephen: Yeah, more accurate and certainly more flattering.
[142.57] Stephen: Yeah, but it is. Yeah, it's an exciting looking year. I mean, Cole is going to be like an interesting times sort of reference there. When you say exciting. I mean, it's exciting for people who are trying to sell drones. Certainly. It's exciting for enterprising individuals who are looking for a way to maybe deliver thermoses of hot chocolate or soup to people.
[173.41] Stephen: Really accurate and effective way.
[178.69] Frank: Soup is notoriously used by just the oil and terrorist organizations. So it's definitely not soup.
[187.53] Stephen: Maybe maybe hot coffee. Probably a McDonald's milkshake. Yeah, USA, USA, etc. Starbucks. Yeah. Yeah. Deliver a frappuccino.
[199.73] Frank: I mean, 25. I mean, things we've got to look forward to this year. I mean, bird is coming back not before, you know, before long. That's like a month away now less than a month away.
[211.17] Frank: There's that we've got. I mean, the big thing later in the year, it's obviously our 10th year anniversary of LDO. Cole is coming over from Canada to the UK. So we've got to find
[228.61] Stephen: So there's going to be at least one man standing in the fields in the UK looking sorry for himself. And we hope
[235.13] Frank: is going to be lovely weather. It's going to be lovely weather. We're all going to meet up. It's gonna be a big crowd of people. It's gonna be great. So we need to find some places to fly while he's over here. So we should take the opportunity between now and then to try them out. So I've been scavenging around looking for spots on maps, spots in local groups. Interesting looking videos.
[263.01] Frank: If anyone's got stuff, send it in stuff in England that is worth tracking to from southeast England.
[273.33] Stephen: I did find a spot where we could fly out over the estuary, but this was kind of slightly poo pooed, because reasons. Well, maybe we'll revisit that and see how it goes.
[283.01] Stephen: Yeah, exactly. It's just
[285.85] Stephen: Also, if you've got something more interesting than a typical field, because we're going to be flying drones, if we can fly through some trees or some buildings or something that's interesting, that would be awesome too.
[296.93] Frank: Yeah, so I'll be pulling a list of places together. I've found somewhere surprisingly close to me that I just need a dry day to go and check out. That could be quite entertaining.
[312.25] Frank: But we'll see. We'll see. We'll post videos
[319.01] Frank: while I've been there.
[321.41] Jack: Do you know what I kind of what appeals to me is
[327.81] Jack: Can we talk about that?
[328.81] Jack: Is it within five minutes of jacks?
[332.81] Jack: No.
[335.01] Jack: No, I don't think it's for you guys once.
[338.61] Jack: Do you remember the nightmare
[343.01] Jack: Roy Roy at all?
[344.01] Frank: We're not going into the Brighton sewers, Jack.
[347.01] Frank: Oh, right. Okay. So we're going to
[349.01] Stephen: maybe if we're going to kidnap a shampoo, who no longer wants to fly quads, we can gaffer tape a transmitter to his hands and then leave him by the dirty thing with something that's running like a KK2.
[365.01] Frank: We're not doing a dog pooping tour.
[368.01] Frank: I like that one.
[373.01] Stephen: You want to dive them?
[375.01] Jack: Installing a memorial dog being definitely tickled me.
[380.01] Jack: No, like, do you remember they went and flew it over an island? I'd like to find those guys.
[387.01] Stephen: Flew what over an island?
[392.48] Jack: Before before they landed in the UK, they were over an island and they met a load of guys out there.
[398.48] Jack: And apparently, Mr. Steve had such a good time.
[404.48] Jack: He keeps some sort of Irish coin on him.
[410.53] Jack: I don't know.
[411.53] Stephen: I just kind of thought that, you know, it would suppose I've got negative memories of Ireland after being forced to commute there a whole bunch for some work stuff and spending a lot of time above a carpet warehouse.
[423.53] Stephen: Somewhere outside of Cork.
[425.53] Frank: Looks like Colin's making his journey to come here, right? So he's going to be like here. We should show him the rest of here.
[431.53] Frank: I'm saying we've got this, you know, this great South England coastline where there's loads of great spots that Tony's flying up and down.
[442.53] Frank: We've occasionally flown up and down bits, but there's loads more that we should explore. There's bits we should go back to.
[448.53] Frank: And that's stuff that I mean, Cole's not here to get his opinion on it.
[452.53] Frank: But I feel like Cole's got big mountains in Taiwan. He's got big mountains in Canada.
[457.53] Frank: But he hasn't got the sea.
[461.53] Frank: Yeah, he does.
[464.81] Frank: Well, it's just a bit of a quiet moment.
[469.81] Stephen: I mean, everyone's arguably got the sea. It's just a question of how far you're going to walk.
[474.81] Stephen: Should we?
[479.16] Stephen: So, OK, so we're going to help Cole, you know, either get a beautiful view of the Pacific Ocean with light fracturing over a million ripples, slash, lose a quad really, really annoyingly in saltwater to least applicable.
[496.16] Frank: Well, I mean, when he is going to Taiwan, he's flying over these huge, great, big, foresty, jungly bits that I feel like if it dropped in that it would be just as bad.
[507.16] Frank: It would be just as bad as dropping the sea. You're not getting it back.
[511.16] Stephen: OK, so you found someone who's used to risk and you're now taking advantage of their poor attitude to risk by making them do bad things.
[521.16] Frank: Yeah, I wanted to make a nice video of the spots that I see on YouTube and go, oh, I'd like to fly there.
[528.16] Frank: But I wouldn't actually like to fly there because I am.
[531.16] Stephen: So you're saying, oh, this would be beautiful, but I don't want to lose one of my quads.
[535.16] Stephen: Yeah, exactly.
[536.16] Stephen: You've got the camera here. Give it a shot, mate.
[541.16] Stephen: When you put it like that, it sounds really, really just altruistic.
[545.16] Frank: Yeah, I thought so. I may have also accidentally bought a or ordered rather a flick wing.
[556.16] Frank: So it's this one that's a collaboration between RC Test Flight and Flight.
[566.16] Frank: It's the guy who designed the Goblin and the Nano Goblin.
[571.16] Stephen: And now it's like the Pico Goblin, I think.
[574.16] Stephen: Yeah, he had like a 3D printed tiny wing. I remember him showing that.
[578.16] Frank: That's the one. That's the one.
[581.16] Frank: Yeah, so they made a Kickstarter.
[584.16] Frank: It was meant to be released like beginning of last year.
[588.16] Frank: They've just released it, which is, you know, that's how manufacturing goes.
[594.16] Frank: That's pretty common, especially Kickstarter.
[597.16] Frank: Does it come with just the shell or do you get all the Gubbins?
[601.16] Frank: I've ordered it with the Gubbins. You can just get the it's like a.
[607.16] Frank: I don't even remember what foam it is, but some very substantial foam.
[612.16] Stephen: It better be because I remember seeing the videos and that thing was was going fast.
[616.16] Frank: It was moving. Yeah.
[619.16] Frank: But yeah, I've ordered that because I want them.
[624.16] Frank: That will be turning up at some point long ago.
[629.16] Frank: SPV saying one day a year in the UK calm enough for small wings.
[633.16] Frank: I mean, that's just a lie.
[636.16] Stephen: Yeah, it's calm every day in my living room, mate.
[639.16] Stephen: You just need to know this. You just kind of got to go for it.
[644.16] Frank: I mean, I've got like a selection of 450 size, 450 millimeter wingspan.
[653.16] Frank: I like this one up here and even smaller than that.
[656.16] Frank: And I've flown them in 20, 25 mile an hour winds without any problems.
[664.16] Stephen: You know what's really good in winds?
[667.16] Stephen: Multi rotors that fly way, way, way better.
[671.16] Stephen: In fact, just generally, they fly way, way, way better than planes.
[675.16] Stephen: So you could just fly one of them.
[677.16] Stephen: It's not as like it's like records versus CDs.
[683.16] Stephen: On one hand, there's some innate connection to the music.
[687.16] Stephen: And the other one, it's an accurate reproduction of what the artist recorded.
[692.16] Stephen: You could argue about which one's better or not all day.
[695.16] Stephen: But fundamentally, I think everyone knows.
[698.16] Frank: I feel like Jack tried to unmute himself
[701.16] Frank: and in doing so managed to remove the call.
[705.16] Jack: I told you what happened.
[708.16] Jack: Total risk. Wait a minute.
[711.16] Jack: There we are.
[713.16] Jack: I think we've fixed it.
[718.16] Jack: Nice.
[721.16] Frank: Yeah, so when determines to fly a bit more FPV,
[728.16] Frank: then I feel like having a ready-built wing with an FPV bin
[735.16] Frank: will maybe encourage me to do it.
[737.16] Stephen: So what my aggressive prodding was getting at was
[740.16] Stephen: that you pretty much lost interest in drones, then it's just going to be wings.
[744.16] Frank: No, I've got my LR4.
[746.16] Frank: I'm thinking about sticking something digital in that.
[751.16] Frank: But it's just having something interesting to do with it.
[756.47] Frank: Like a wing, even in a field that is wide-open expanse
[762.47] Frank: is still interesting to fly.
[764.47] Frank: There's still a bit of a challenge or a bit of a...
[767.47] Frank: I don't know. There's a bit more to it that's of interest to me.
[771.47] Frank: Whereas I feel like quads, I spend more time on the desk
[776.47] Frank: and then I go out and fly and it flies on that.
[779.47] Frank: Well, that's... Yeah, it does what I tell it to.
[782.47] Frank: Fine.
[783.47] Frank: Unless there's something interesting to fly around, it just stays in my bag.
[790.47] Frank: So maybe with all these spots that we should go wrecky before coal gets over,
[795.47] Frank: maybe there'll be more inspiration for me.
[798.47] Stephen: Well, maybe this year I'll fly my wing a second time
[801.47] Stephen: after I gave it to Jack and he flew it into a hill.
[805.47] Frank: Well, but it's Jack's preferred method of FPV,
[808.47] Frank: is find a hill and fly into it.
[811.72] Jack: Yes, totally.
[813.72] Jack: And also, in Frank's defence as well,
[817.72] Jack: wings tend to be way easier to find
[821.72] Jack: when they do go down than tiny little mini quads.
[826.72] Stephen: Does your wing beep?
[828.72] Stephen: I guess you can make a beep, aren't you?
[832.72] Frank: Yeah, yeah.
[834.72] Frank: I have had to go find a wing once,
[838.72] Frank: but not as often as I've had to go and find drones, I feel like.
[843.72] Frank: There we go.
[848.56] Frank: There's also no flight controller needed,
[850.56] Frank: that's absolutely why I prefer the wing racing to quad racing is like...
[856.56] Frank: I don't have to think about flight controllers.
[859.56] Frank: That's a negative for me.
[861.56] Stephen: I'd rather have a flight controller.
[863.56] Stephen: I don't like not having a flight controller.
[865.56] Stephen: I don't like no OSD.
[867.56] Stephen: I don't like no fine tuning.
[869.56] Stephen: I don't like no kind of compensation for the airframe as big as...
[875.56] Frank: Very, very happy to not have any of that.
[878.56] Frank: Not even have the opportunity to be tempted into that rabbit hole
[882.56] Frank: and spend another all night trying to understand what the hell...
[886.56] Frank: Yeah, you see, I'd rather have that.
[888.56] Frank: I can just stick my fingers on these points
[890.56] Frank: and if it's roughly balanced, it will probably fly.
[894.56] Frank: That is ideal.
[896.56] Jack: And no pass-through, just bullet connectors
[900.56] Jack: and switch one round to reverse one motor.
[903.56] Jack: He only has to worry about and he doesn't have to deal with the LRS.
[908.56] Frank: I don't have to. I have dealt with the LRS.
[911.56] Frank: Yeah.
[913.56] Stephen: I just don't get it.
[915.56] Stephen: CG.
[918.56] Frank: Make sure the control surfaces go the right way and you're flying.
[923.56] Frank: As long as it's got enough thrust, it will fly.
[926.56] Stephen: I've been following Limon's attempts to add wing support to beta flight,
[934.56] Stephen: which is coming with 4.6 and that promises to be quite interesting.
[938.56] Stephen: I think I've shared the videos here before.
[940.56] Stephen: He's taken some of those cheap phone gliders like I've got on the shelf here
[944.56] Stephen: and he's added a couple of 1104 motors onto them
[948.56] Stephen: and turned them into cheap flight controller-enabled planes
[954.56] Stephen: with analog VTXs and GPS.
[958.56] Stephen: I've got the thing up running.
[960.56] Stephen: That will be the thing that tempts me to really try it out
[963.56] Stephen: because I keep looking at the plane and just thinking,
[966.56] Stephen: and then I don't really have...
[969.56] Stephen: I've tried to fly planes a bunch before.
[973.56] Stephen: I had some kind of bind-and-fly stuff and crashed it a bunch
[978.56] Stephen: and just kind of lost interest.
[981.56] Stephen: I just never really wanted to go back because it wasn't that interesting.
[985.56] Frank: Forces were courses.
[987.56] Frank: I keep trying to get into whoops and I keep bouncing off
[992.56] Frank: because it's just...
[994.56] Frank: I've got four of them.
[996.56] Frank: The LRS is the ideal quad for me.
[999.56] Frank: I've got the slightly bigger stuff
[1002.56] Frank: and I'm just not tempted to go take it anywhere.
[1007.56] Frank: Then there's tiny whoop stuff, which just...
[1010.56] Frank: Oh my God.
[1012.56] Stephen: I think I've bought a couple of bind-and-fly whoops
[1014.56] Stephen: and then I've built a couple
[1016.56] Stephen: and I was always kind of trying to get it to be something that I'd really enjoy
[1020.56] Stephen: and I never actually ended up creating something that I really enjoyed flying.
[1024.56] Stephen: I even got a whole bunch of gates and I was like,
[1026.56] Stephen: I'm going to go in this, everyone says it's great.
[1028.56] Stephen: When I get good at racing and put these great gates around
[1031.56] Stephen: and had some EL wire wound around coat hangers, built gates out of them,
[1036.56] Stephen: raced around them, got okay at it
[1039.56] Stephen: and then I was just like, nah.
[1042.56] Stephen: I don't know. I just never got the bug.
[1045.56] Frank: But I think the whoop stuff is much more of a communal thing, I think.
[1051.56] Frank: It is just...
[1053.56] Frank: I feel like you have to have a group of people
[1056.56] Frank: having a bit of a party and then whoops makes sense.
[1060.56] Frank: I feel like on their own, unless you're doing something crazy,
[1064.56] Frank: if you're doing one-way whoop stuff, then I can see the excitement in that.
[1068.56] Frank: But if you've got party people, it's great. It's good fun.
[1074.56] Frank: I can totally get into the vibe of an event with a load of whoop stuff going on.
[1079.56] Frank: That is good.
[1082.56] Frank: They're finicky.
[1085.56] Frank: They're not fun to work on. They're not fun to fix.
[1088.56] Frank: In my hands, they require a lot of fixing.
[1091.56] Stephen: It's a bit stressful to try and work on something that size.
[1095.56] Stephen: It's challenging.
[1097.56] Stephen: You need to be on your top game in terms of soldering skills.
[1101.56] Stephen: There's no second chances. You break stuff quite easily.
[1105.56] Stephen: I've had a couple of dumb mistakes and just fried things on whoops
[1108.56] Stephen: because a blob of solder ended up where it shouldn't be and stuff like that.
[1112.56] Stephen: It's unforgiving.
[1114.56] Jack: Reverse polarity. I'd done a load of FETs on my board,
[1119.56] Jack: bought another board, floated the FETs off, swapped the FETs, got it working,
[1125.56] Jack: put it away working, went back to use it,
[1129.56] Jack: and then couldn't get it to bind or work with my transmitter.
[1141.56] Jack: I then ended up taking the working FETs,
[1144.56] Jack: putting them on the new board that I bought,
[1147.56] Jack: and salvaged the FETs on, put it back on there,
[1150.56] Jack: and then reconfiguring everything.
[1153.56] Jack: I might as well have just plugged in the new board.
[1157.56] Jack: Do you know what I mean? It was like literally punching myself in the dick for fun.
[1163.56] Stephen: Some of the stuff makes me think you should be hiring yourself out
[1168.56] Stephen: and get people to pay you in quad parts instead of go through this crazy dance that you did.
[1176.56] Jack: No, I don't know. It was so not fun.
[1181.56] Jack: It was fun getting it to work and being like,
[1183.56] Jack: oh, I've done tiny little microscopic FETs,
[1186.56] Jack: and I'd done that, and I'd put it away working,
[1188.56] Jack: then a friend popped around and it was like, do you want to have a go?
[1193.56] Jack: It just didn't work.
[1195.56] Jack: But then having to undo that work made it so the point is,
[1203.56] Jack: I've undone that work, got it working, sorted it, configured it,
[1209.56] Jack: and I haven't touched the loop since.
[1213.56] Jack: That's how much fun. It's like, I don't want to...
[1217.56] Jack: This is your constant problem, right?
[1220.56] Jack: No, I will literally...
[1222.56] Frank: I feel like you spend all your time building and fixing.
[1226.56] Jack: If I go to that thing and it doesn't work,
[1230.56] Jack: no matter where I am, I will pull down my pants,
[1234.56] Jack: open the dedicated box and zip it back up.
[1244.52] Stephen: It sounds crazy, but a part of me sees your point of view, to be honest.
[1249.52] Frank: I still doubt this strong doubt button
[1255.52] Frank: because I have too many pictures of Jack sitting in the corner of a field,
[1261.52] Frank: soldering, flashing, programming away.
[1273.52] Frank: It might not be what he enjoys, but it's definitely what he spends his time doing.
[1277.52] Frank: I think it's a problem. It's an addiction.
[1281.52] Frank: He's a leadaholic.
[1285.96] Stephen: You've got to talk to someone about that.
[1288.96] Stephen: I think the whoops should be fun.
[1290.96] Stephen: I've got a lot of things in them that look like fun,
[1292.96] Stephen: but then the actual experience of it.
[1294.96] Stephen: I like supporting people that fly whoops because it looks like an awesome thing to do.
[1299.96] Stephen: The visuals are great.
[1300.96] Stephen: The ability to actually just hang out in a sensible-sized space with other pilots is great.
[1306.96] Stephen: The ability for it to be more social than a big race event is great.
[1310.96] Stephen: But at the same time, I think I'm just not someone that really even likes racing.
[1317.96] Stephen: We have race people on it. It's great and everything,
[1320.96] Stephen: but I'd rather just lark around.
[1323.96] Stephen: The trouble is that if I'm in an environment where people are ultra-competitive,
[1328.96] Stephen: a part of my brain just checks out and goes,
[1330.96] Stephen: well, f*** that. We're not going to enjoy this.
[1333.96] Stephen: It just starts making trouble for me.
[1338.96] Frank: That's what I've definitely experienced.
[1341.96] Frank: The whoop scene, even the top-end race whoop stuff,
[1347.96] Frank: it still seems very much a party atmosphere.
[1352.96] Frank: It doesn't feel like the competitive adrenaline,
[1357.96] Frank: not even adrenaline fuel, but slightly aggressive atmosphere
[1364.96] Frank: that you get at the top-end 5-inch racing.
[1368.96] Frank: That's nice.
[1369.96] Frank: In my experience.
[1370.96] Stephen: I've tried it. I'm just saying from my attempts at trying it,
[1374.96] Stephen: it was still an amount of competitiveness that my brain just went,
[1379.96] Stephen: nah, we're not doing that.
[1380.96] Stephen: That doesn't look like fun anymore.
[1383.96] Stephen: I liked hanging out and chatting to people,
[1386.96] Stephen: but when it was like, oh, let's race,
[1388.96] Stephen: I'd just do a couple of laps and be like,
[1390.96] Stephen: what am I doing? This isn't fun. What am I doing?
[1394.96] Stephen: I'd rather just piss around and fly backwards
[1398.96] Stephen: and goof around on one feature of the track for five minutes
[1402.96] Stephen: doing orbits on it or loops on it and actually do the race.
[1407.96] Stephen: Get the score off Michael Freestyle.
[1409.96] Stephen: Yeah, exactly.
[1412.96] Stephen: My brain was just like, yeah, that looks like a lot of fun.
[1415.96] Stephen: We should do that instead of race.
[1416.96] Stephen: I'm like, focus, focus, do the race, do the race,
[1419.96] Stephen: get good at racing, get good at racing.
[1421.96] Stephen: Then my brain was just like, no, no,
[1423.96] Stephen: let's just fly in circles around this.
[1425.96] Stephen: Stop the brain. Stop shouting we.
[1428.96] Frank: Save yourself.
[1429.96] Frank: That's also my reaction to flying simulators,
[1434.96] Frank: is every time I pick up the simulator,
[1437.96] Frank: being like, I'm going to actually get good,
[1441.96] Frank: and then I just don't.
[1443.96] Frank: I'm like, oh, well, that's...
[1447.96] Stephen: Yeah, you find the biggest plane and you fly upside down through the city
[1451.96] Stephen: or you find a fighter jet and just fly to the moon or something.
[1455.96] Frank: Yeah.
[1456.96] Frank: No, I mean like quad sims.
[1459.96] Frank: There's the five-inch track or even if it's like one of these really cool ones
[1464.96] Frank: where it's through a whole building site
[1467.96] Frank: and it's up the brain and along the thing and down.
[1470.96] Frank: It should be exciting, but I look at it and I fly through a few gates
[1475.96] Frank: enough to vaguely learn the track.
[1478.96] Frank: I'm like, no, I'd rather just carry on doing like, like you say,
[1484.96] Frank: orbits and messi loops and things around stuff.
[1488.96] Frank: I'm just like, this is a more fun way to spend my time.
[1492.96] Frank: This is what I'm interested in.
[1493.96] Stephen: Look at all the fantastic things this aircraft can do.
[1496.96] Stephen: Of course, it can go past in circles.
[1498.96] Stephen: I think part of my subconscious knows that basically
[1504.96] Stephen: quad racing is inherently limited
[1507.96] Stephen: because we've got maybe like three or four years
[1511.96] Stephen: before it's just trivially faster to ask a computer to do it.
[1517.96] Stephen: Like, it's like the chess problem except, you know,
[1521.96] Stephen: it's one with all these like market factors
[1524.96] Stephen: that are pushing people to solve it.
[1526.96] Stephen: So, yeah, it's nice that it's a cool thing to do
[1529.96] Stephen: but at the same time, I think we've already seen computers
[1534.96] Stephen: fly faster than like Van Over can.
[1537.96] Stephen: And it's, you know, they had a bunch of aids to do that in cameras
[1541.96] Stephen: and it's just, I think creativity is always going to be where people excel
[1546.96] Stephen: and creativity isn't necessarily racing.
[1550.96] Stephen: Jack is waving boards.
[1555.94] Jack: Sky stars of me.
[1556.94] Jack: Oh.
[1557.94] Jack: No, look, no, unmolested.
[1560.94] Stephen: Jack, you've got to not molest this.
[1563.94] Stephen: You've got to just fly it and not molest it with soldering iron.
[1567.94] Stephen: No, I know.
[1569.94] Stephen: Don't look at it and say, that's not straight.
[1572.94] Stephen: That SMD component could be reworked.
[1575.94] Stephen: Don't do it.
[1576.94] Jack: No.
[1577.94] Jack: I so avoid as much as I can doing SMD work
[1585.94] Jack: to the point I do not have my reflow station on my desk permanently.
[1592.94] Jack: I plug it in when I have to.
[1595.94] Jack: It's true.
[1598.94] Stephen: Yeah, you're a little sweaty palm reflowed addict.
[1601.94] Stephen: Yeah, we know that's not the case.
[1603.94] Stephen: It's just like, just when I have to, just when my eyes are open
[1607.94] Stephen: or just now and then, just between the hours.
[1611.94] Jack: I prefer sleeping, watching YouTube, anything,
[1620.94] Jack: anything but the pain and suffering that I put myself through.
[1626.94] Jack: Frank, you're right.
[1627.94] Jack: I do do a lot of building.
[1629.94] Jack: I'm not denying that.
[1631.94] Stephen: What we should do is find you a side gig where you can earn
[1637.94] Stephen: quad parts or plane parts or whatever from your reflow work
[1641.94] Stephen: instead of it being like an activity that you do instead of actually flying.
[1651.85] Stephen: Like someone could say, if you fix this, these couple of ESCs,
[1654.85] Stephen: I'll give you another ESC or something.
[1657.85] Stephen: If there's anyone out there that can build a side gig for Jack
[1660.85] Stephen: out of Goodwill in 20, 25, that'd be awesome.
[1666.85] Jack: I need to get out of this hole of, I don't know, fixing stuff
[1671.85] Jack: and then it only slightly works.
[1674.85] Stephen: You've got to be able to feed that urge to use your skills
[1678.85] Stephen: while not blocking that urge from actually enabling you to go fly.
[1684.85] Stephen: You're good at soldering, so let's find a way you can do soldering,
[1688.85] Stephen: but let's not put it in the way of actually being able to fly stuff.
[1693.85] Stephen: The way you describe it, it sounds like you've put that as a prerequisite
[1698.85] Stephen: before you can do flying stuff.
[1701.85] Frank: I feel like it's almost compulsive.
[1705.85] Frank: If there's something that Jack knows could be improved
[1710.85] Frank: and it's sitting anywhere near his desk, it will get desoldered
[1715.85] Frank: and resoldered possibly, at the very least desoldered.
[1721.85] Stephen: I sympathize with that a bit because I have been known to tinker quite a lot
[1725.85] Stephen: and I have way too many half-finished bills to be really truly innocent
[1730.85] Stephen: and be able to cast judgement on this one.
[1733.85] Stephen: There's a line to walk, I think, somewhere in the middle of that
[1738.85] Stephen: where you can do both.
[1742.85] Frank: I've got almost the opposite problem.
[1745.85] Frank: I've got too many boxes of bits that I've bought intending to soldered together
[1751.85] Frank: and have not soldered them together.
[1754.85] Frank: There's all sorts of projects where I've planned it for the build,
[1760.85] Frank: bought the bits for the build.
[1762.85] Stephen: Do you have a set of cardboard boxes neatly lined up
[1766.85] Stephen: as though some kind of factory production line might be about to happen?
[1771.85] Frank: Genuinely, I've got the trays, the little parts bins.
[1778.85] Stephen: You've made it look as professional as you possibly can do
[1782.85] Stephen: to hide the fact that this is not happening.
[1787.85] Frank: I lie to myself and tell myself that it is going to happen.
[1791.85] Frank: The problem is I always want to wait until I've got all the bits before I start
[1795.85] Frank: except there'll be something from China that's going to be like two months.
[1798.85] Stephen: You wait another three months and you're like,
[1800.85] Stephen: well, we're just going to upgrade this one bit,
[1802.85] Stephen: so I might as well wait until the new version comes out.
[1804.85] Frank: Exactly.
[1805.85] Frank: Or in that time, I'll either have completely forgotten what the plan was
[1809.85] Frank: or I'll have nicked something out of it to fix something or build something else
[1814.85] Frank: and then there'll just be an almost complete box apart
[1818.85] Frank: and then it goes back around to me ordering something
[1820.85] Frank: and waiting for another few months.
[1822.85] Frank: This is how all the friction...
[1824.85] Stephen: Flipside, you've got 73 builds that are so close to being ready, it's unbelievable.
[1829.85] Jack: Yeah. Exactly.
[1832.85] Jack: He's got stuff that he doesn't know where it come from or why.
[1838.85] Stephen: Well, the reason why...
[1840.85] Stephen: Jack, you can't say that, surely.
[1842.85] Stephen: You can't say that with a clean conscience yourself.
[1844.85] Stephen: Oh, no, no, no, I fucking...
[1847.85] Frank: But in addition to the normal stuff,
[1850.85] Frank: I did additionally have some occasional deliveries from Hobbyking
[1858.85] Frank: that I genuinely didn't order.
[1861.85] Frank: They didn't know who had ordered them.
[1863.85] Frank: They just kept sending me castles of random stuff.
[1867.85] Frank: I was like, the null address, yeah.
[1870.85] Frank: I'd just get a box of hundreds of control surface hinges or something.
[1879.85] Frank: I'm like, what is this?
[1881.85] Frank: I haven't ordered anything in from Hobbyking for like two years.
[1884.85] Frank: Why have I got these?
[1885.85] Stephen: You've got so many channels on these new radios, Frank, it seems.
[1889.85] Stephen: Go for it.
[1891.85] Stephen: 32 channels, come on.
[1894.85] Jack: That happened a few times, didn't it?
[1897.85] Frank: Yeah, yeah.
[1899.85] Frank: I have these little spring latches to put the canopy on your fixed wing.
[1907.85] Frank: I have these little elevator control surface gauges, all sorts of weird stuff.
[1913.85] Frank: I'm like, how are you about them?
[1915.85] Frank: I'm like, what is going on?
[1917.85] Frank: They weren't interested.
[1940.13] Frank: Caroline's got some spicy kit in.
[1951.13] Stephen: She jumped on those TBS X-wing ESCs, the 12S90 amp, big fat boys.
[1959.13] Frank: X-wing, do you mean X-Class or is this something else?
[1962.13] Stephen: Sorry, this may have been related to a couple of cocktails by earlier.
[1967.13] Frank: Well, I didn't know what it was.
[1969.13] Frank: It genuinely could have been an X-wing and I just wasn't aware of it.
[1973.13] Stephen: Yes, so TBS released a big fat ESC that runs AM32 and it looks like Caroline.
[1980.13] Stephen: A single ESC.
[1983.13] Stephen: Oh, you let us down there, Caroline.
[1987.13] Stephen: Why are you playing?
[1989.13] Jack: Will it get to you though or will it get cancelled by the...
[1995.13] Jack: Are you going to make a 12S wing?
[1997.13] Stephen: Chinese government.
[2000.13] Stephen: I'm actually slightly more intrigued by that.
[2003.13] Stephen: Well, she says, got by, I mean, think mine.
[2009.13] Stephen: TBS Lucid 12S90 amp ESC ends at a chunky thing.
[2013.13] Stephen: Single ESC.
[2016.13] Stephen: For the 6S Atom RC Dolphin plane.
[2020.13] Stephen: But it's a 12S ESC, Caroline.
[2022.13] Stephen: Come on.
[2023.13] Stephen: 12S, come on.
[2026.13] Frank: Just put a smaller scrub on it.
[2030.13] Stephen: Just put a bigger motor in there.
[2032.13] Stephen: Come on.
[2033.13] Stephen: Let's find something that's a 700 kV, like big fatty.
[2038.13] Frank: So is this 12S AM32 ESC, is that what has triggered this update that you posted in the Discord channel?
[2051.13] Frank: Using contributions.
[2053.13] Stephen: No, actually unrelated, but I did notice that the AM32 guys posted a context of sorts.
[2061.13] Stephen: More a kind of, you break it, get a trophy type of thing.
[2067.13] Stephen: And they said, post evidence of a desync on AM32,
[2074.13] Stephen: do whatever sort of hellscape builds you want, so long as the kV slide is above 500, entries are valid.
[2082.13] Stephen: Just you basically rag it, see what the firmware will do, try and make it desync.
[2088.13] Stephen: If it does submit logs, we bet you can't make it desync pretty much is what they're getting at.
[2095.13] Stephen: So that'll be interesting.
[2100.13] Stephen: Especially when people are going beyond 6S with these like 12S ESCs that are now available.
[2106.13] Stephen: There's bound to be some challenging loads.
[2109.13] Stephen: When you get to that large of a rotor size, it just doesn't want to be necessarily where the magnetic field suggests it should be.
[2118.13] Stephen: And that can lead to a desync.
[2120.13] Stephen: So, yeah.
[2123.13] Frank: Because it's on this latest release candidate, right? 2.17.
[2129.13] Stephen: I'm sure it's the 2.17 that they're looking at.
[2132.13] Stephen: Generally, with these type of queries, it's not looking at the release build.
[2137.13] Stephen: It's like, well, look at the absolute latest code that we've put out there and see if there's anything wrong with it.
[2142.13] Stephen: Because what you were in essence doing is trying to help them build a better firmware.
[2146.13] Stephen: And you're doing it by showing how something fails in the firmware.
[2152.13] Stephen: So, yeah, it's usually on the absolute latest release candidate, I thought.
[2158.13] Stephen: It's an interesting idea, though.
[2160.13] Frank: So you were saying that they've sort of done some clever stuff in there to make it more...
[2168.13] Frank: Well, yeah, there's like auto-timing advance.
[2170.13] Stephen: So previously, you had to kind of mess around with timing advance, and you'd either be like conservative and more efficient,
[2178.13] Stephen: or you'd be kind of trying to avoid desyncs, but potentially wasting some more power.
[2184.13] Stephen: And now timing advance changes depending on the acceleration that's demanded of the motor.
[2192.13] Stephen: And so they seem to be quite confident that it's not going to desync.
[2198.13] Stephen: However, I can tell you that I'd seen desyncs back on Beel Heli 32 and Beel Heli S and even earlier versions of AM32
[2208.13] Stephen: by just really pushing things very hard, very aggressive tunes, very high-pitched props, aggressive tunes,
[2218.13] Stephen: doing lots of punch-outs and hard maneuvers where you just try and flip-stop, flip-stop, flip-stop,
[2228.13] Stephen: or do accelerating flat-out, and then a 180-degree turn, and back the other way, a 180-degree turn,
[2236.13] Stephen: and back, and you'd every now and then just see one side of the quad sort of...
[2242.13] Stephen: and just not quite... it would like tow out and skew out from one side when one motor desynced
[2248.13] Stephen: and wasn't able to get up to speed. A lot of the time, that was just because the magnets had been
[2255.73] Stephen: effed because I was pushing them too hard, and you'd come down and be like, those are uncomfortably hot.
[2260.13] Stephen: So I might have actually like simply deteriorated the magnet by getting it too hot, but I think some of that was desyncing.
[2268.61] Frank: Yeah, because this was sort of my surprise, I guess, was that I remember a time when desyncing was common,
[2278.37] Frank: like every meet-up we had, like something would fall out of the sky because a motor would desynch,
[2285.01] Frank: but it was like it... like that motor had failed almost, like just fall out of the sky, we're just
[2289.73] Frank: that motor not doing anything, and then that sort of went away and we didn't really have to worry
[2295.73] Frank: about it anymore, and I felt like that was like five... well, more than five years ago, like...
[2303.41] Frank: It is a failure mode of ESG.
[2307.09] Frank: Yeah, I guess. Eventually you get to that point if you've got a big enough, heavy enough,
[2313.89] Stephen: enough inertia in the moving bit of your quads. So that desynch occurs because the ESC cannot
[2322.29] Stephen: synchronize the magnetic field to the position where the rotor is, right? So your rotor has got
[2328.29] Stephen: all those magnet tiles around the outside, and the magnetic field lines up with them and pushes
[2334.05] Stephen: some and pulls others, right? The oversimplified version of it, and if those pulses are fired
[2343.01] Stephen: at a point when the magnets on the rotor don't line up with magnetic fields on the stator,
[2349.41] Stephen: because maybe the prop is dragging too much or you're trying to request too much acceleration
[2355.25] Stephen: out of the motor, then you get a desynch, and the desynch is just saying that the rotor isn't
[2363.41] Stephen: where the ESC thinks it is, and therefore it's not synchronizing the magnetic field to the position
[2368.77] Stephen: of the permanent magnets, and things go wrong, and you miss a zero crossing typically, and that's
[2374.29] Stephen: not a big deal today. I think that what you're talking about, Frank, back in the day, when you
[2380.37] Stephen: missed a zero crossing, you'd hit a desynch really quickly, and the ESC couldn't recover. Modern ESC
[2384.93] Stephen: is better at recovering from a couple of missed zero crossings, so things don't perfectly line
[2390.21] Stephen: up. They can figure it out, but if you consistently fail to be in the right position and the ESC can't
[2398.85] Stephen: line up its field with where the rotor is, then you hit a desynch. The ESC is just like, well,
[2406.29] Stephen: I give up, I don't know what I'm supposed to be doing because I'm not seeing any back EMF that
[2411.89] Stephen: suggests the rotor is anywhere where I'd expect it to be, so I'm just going to abort before I
[2417.81] Stephen: put current into the windings and burn something, and that's what it's doing, so you can get there
[2425.49] Stephen: by on a larger motor not being able to accelerate the motor fast enough. Maybe you've got a really
[2432.21] Stephen: chunky prop, and the actual RPM of the motor isn't particularly high, and I think this tends to occur
[2439.17] Stephen: more when the actual RPM of the motor isn't super high, whereas if you look a little tiny, it's more
[2444.61] Stephen: likely that you don't desynch. It seems to be something that's happening more when you get to
[2451.3] Stephen: 5-7-10 inch anecdotally, and I'm not an ESC engineer, so I'm sorry if I'm talking out of my
[2458.58] Stephen: arse, but this is an impression that I get of it, that when you see heavier loads on the prop
[2463.78] Stephen: with lower ERPMs, then this tends to be more likely, and there's also a bunch of commentary
[2471.38] Stephen: that we had from IKE unit a couple of shows ago with EM32 when he said, well, you get up beyond
[2479.54] Stephen: the standard sizes of motors where you've got, you know, 2207 on a 5-inch maybe through 2407,
[2486.42] Stephen: and then you've got 2807, 2809, maybe 22010 on a 7-inch. You've got beyond that, and things start
[2493.14] Stephen: to get just a bit freaky because the magnetic fields on, say, a 3210 or a 3215, they're just
[2500.02] Stephen: really large magnetic fields, and they start to influence things in ways that you didn't expect
[2505.14] Stephen: them to, and the magnetic field forming and collapsing has such a large amount of energy in
[2511.78] Stephen: it that the mathematics that work okay on a 2207 motor start to fall to pieces when you get to
[2519.22] Stephen: these larger motors, which kind of explains the dominance that APD had in the ESC game for these
[2525.94] Stephen: larger motors, that there was a little bit of black magic and extra protection and wizardry that
[2532.58] Stephen: needed to go into it, so you could cope with those large magnetic fields forming and dumping
[2537.54] Stephen: and the large amounts of feedback that you get. And the EM32 team, I think, really want to
[2543.7] Stephen: understand how this works because BLH32 is gone, and they were used on some of the larger units.
[2550.98] Stephen: APD, Advanced Power Drives in Australia, stopped making kit for X-Class. Now they're just doing
[2557.3] Stephen: industrial commercial drone kit. That leaves T motor, who've never really been that popular
[2563.06] Stephen: with X-Class, and again they're very pricey geared towards industrial drones. So there needs to be
[2569.22] Stephen: something that these larger drones that are used for sport can use, and ideally that would be
[2576.1] Stephen: something that AM32 can solve. They can understand it, model it, and enhance the firmware to deal
[2583.22] Frank: with it. So yeah, more data, more better. Yeah, yeah. It would be definitely interesting to see
[2593.3] Frank: more big ESC stuff get to the mainstream. But also if you've got a nightmare build,
[2602.9] Stephen: like you film it, show it, you know, share the pain, burden shared and all that.
[2610.9] Jack: The misery.
[2614.55] Stephen: Show us your tears.
[2617.59] Frank: Stick that out of the vlog to stick me in.
[2626.24] Jack: It's funny. I shared a video of Caroline's neon plane. That was kind of cool to see.
[2634.8] Jack: So that's what was, sorry, if I didn't cause anyone some sort of epileptic
[2642.64] Jack: discomfort. I did not know about the
[2653.44] Jack: strobe underneath. Oh, look who it is. Look. The cat dragged in. I'm not talking to you.
[2664.4] Jack: What time do you call this?
[2667.2] Stephen: Where have you been? What time do you call this?
[2669.84] Jack: I know. All right. Your disappointment.
[2673.68] Koel: All right. I have a very gross explanation for this.
[2680.08] Koel: Oh, no.
[2681.28] Koel: I don't know if anyone wants it or not. It's not very drone related, although
[2688.0] Koel: there may have been utensils used that could be used on drone things.
[2693.81] Jack: And yeah, I don't think we need to go into this though. But
[2698.85] Jack: is this the section of porn hub where you type in, I invented this and see what comes up.
[2708.29] Koel: No, it's it's really strange. And I don't think it's really, I mean, although three of you
[2715.81] Koel: have facial hair, so this might not be strange, but it's it's not really podcast material.
[2724.61] Koel: And you may you may notice a little red area right here on my face. Oh,
[2730.21] Stephen: you're all right. Have you burnt your face or cut your face?
[2734.05] Stephen: No, well, attached your face and then rip off a small piece of your face.
[2738.37] Koel: Does that has happened? No, but when I was in Montreal recently, I needed to shave,
[2743.25] Koel: but I didn't bring a razor and the hotel gave me a single bladed razor. Oh, no, just don't. Yeah,
[2749.81] Stephen: so you may be able to do the math. Yeah. Pulsating blood. A little bit. Yeah. Yeah.
[2761.89] Stephen: So so I'm not the only one. Yeah. Yeah. Those hotel raises were a nightmare.
[2768.13] Koel: I didn't know that automatically do that. I didn't even mean for it to do that.
[2771.89] Koel: Well done. Yeah.
[2777.33] Jack: So guys, I was just like, special. I was doing surgery. Yeah.
[2785.49] Jack: Yeah, I had no idea. I'm glad you're still alive and did.
[2793.09] Koel: Yeah. So drones are really cool. And I'm coming to the UK and we're going to go on a fun adventure
[2797.49] Koel: and we're not going to have disgusting things on your face that need to be removed.
[2805.17] Koel: Yeah. I sort of tuned it at the beginning because I was running behind and I was like,
[2811.65] Koel: oh, I'm like deep into this right now. But yeah, dude, it would be really like,
[2818.21] Koel: I sort of heard the plan and let's do it. Let's figure some out why you had a plan.
[2827.97] Koel: Wait, this isn't let's draw now.
[2833.09] Jack: Is it worth bringing zero with us as well to moderate us?
[2839.33] Stephen: We're going to be able to talk. I mean, I feel like any attempt at
[2843.49] Stephen: moderation would just involve get the taping our faces.
[2847.49] Jack: Yeah. We can't go back to Pevensie Castle.
[2851.89] Koel: Oh, I know where and what's called you said we didn't say Canadians.
[2859.01] Stephen: I don't know where Pevensie Castle is. I've never been to Pevensie Castle.
[2864.37] Jack: Are you very true?
[2865.41] Koel: Well, I did hear that I heard I heard the discussion of over the water and that just
[2870.61] Koel: terrifies me way too much. Yeah, I don't understand how you were absolutely
[2876.93] Frank: putting into like fly over rivers and jungles and like rivers are not to see
[2882.37] Stephen: that this man hasn't seen water in his life. It's just doesn't exist.
[2886.77] Stephen: No, I've taken the bathtub and he starts shaking.
[2891.01] Jack: You know, like, you know, like when you've got cats, when you you open the door and they
[2896.61] Jack: try and escape, so you try and teach them that outside scary. That's what I've done to
[2901.57] Jack: go. I brought cold down to the water and was like, stuck a little mask on and went.
[2908.69] Koel: And you know what, I even had a gentle version of that story.
[2911.81] Koel: I had a water scare in England before actually with a mavic. When I don't know if you guys
[2918.37] Koel: remember this, a couple of years ago, when the seagull dive bombed my qua my mavic, and I like
[2926.05] Koel: was on the edge of the sea and then it luckily landed in the dry section of the beach.
[2932.29] Koel: And like the dry section of the sea, you are very lucky.
[2935.89] Koel: Dude, so I was like on the little like, so here's the water. Here's the beach.
[2941.73] Koel: Well, I landed like right here. I like tumbled to my dismay, but
[2946.93] Koel: sorry, one question at a time, please.
[2958.29] Stephen: The viewers would like to know which part of coal is known as his dismay.
[2965.09] Koel: Wait. Well, the water was this was the stressful part.
[2971.57] Koel: And and the fact that I was like less than half a meter from hitting it.
[2977.25] Stephen: The sea. Yes. I'm just looking at where Pevensie Castle is, Jack. Eastbourne.
[2989.03] Frank: I don't think I even put Pevensie Castle on the list, like somewhere around Pevensie,
[2995.91] Frank: but not the castle.
[2996.63] Koel: It's only around a road that's reachable.
[3000.55] Koel: There's a difference between flying over the sea and flying over water like this,
[3004.95] Koel: a little stream, you know what I mean? Like, that's that's a little more
[3011.67] Koel: It's like, oh, I can see the bottom of the water if I had to reach in or go for a little,
[3016.31] Koel: you know, knee high dunk, I may, but although actually, I will say I this year I have flown
[3027.59] Koel: about maybe 20 meters out to sea, maybe 20 meters, and it was okay.
[3035.83] Koel: Did you find anything? Usually I found surfers.
[3038.15] Stephen: I don't want to find anything.
[3039.75] Koel: I found surfers. And they were like, what's up, dude? And I was like,
[3044.63] Koel: I'm not flying over top of you. I promise that's not what I'm doing.
[3049.83] Stephen: It's just an optical illusion. Sometimes it looks like you're doing that.
[3053.03] Stephen: But that's not actually the case.
[3055.27] Stephen: As long as you're reminded of that.
[3057.35] Koel: Well, I saw them afterwards and they were like, I was like, yeah,
[3059.43] Koel: I didn't want to fly over you guys. You know, they're like, Oh, no, man, that's sick, dude.
[3062.55] Koel: They're like, that's so cool. I'm like, Oh, who would have thought surfer dudes being chill and cool.
[3069.91] Koel: Guess this. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
[3074.23] Jack: Um, I have, uh, I have something I want to share Instagram.
[3082.55] Jack: Check out this cool video that I found. Hang on.
[3088.15] Frank: You went on the internet and you found this.
[3091.43] Jack: Check this out. So a guy takes off.
[3093.51] Jack: Sorry, can you make the video smaller?
[3094.95] Frank: Yeah.
[3101.83] Frank: Jack is sharing like a video that is within a video that was within a window that is within
[3109.51] Frank: not a window.
[3113.51] Stephen: It's a picture of a quad that appears to be flying in circles.
[3118.07] Jack: And there's, yeah, there was some fireworks at midnight.
[3121.75] Jack: Yeah, Frank, I'll post it in the private chat. You, you share a guy sends up a drone and does
[3130.15] Jack: a 360 of exactly when midnight on the thing. And I thought it was a cool video, but I didn't realize
[3139.59] Koel: it wouldn't. It was pretty epic.
[3147.51] Jack: Yeah, I just don't know how to know.
[3150.23] Koel: It's really tough sharing on Instagram, especially when people are sharing horizontal content
[3155.11] Koel: on a vertical platform. And then you're trying to show it on a horizontal path. Oh,
[3159.59] Koel: currently I'm doing hearts. What's going on here?
[3162.95] Stephen: Have you bought a new Mac Cole?
[3166.39] Koel: Well, I got a new screen and it is the studio display.
[3171.11] Stephen: And apparently now emoji enabled. Apparently.
[3173.75] Koel: I didn't realize that.
[3177.59] Koel: That's cool.
[3178.95] Frank: Cole, before we go, do you have any requests for types of spots or things you want to fly,
[3187.27] Frank: anything like that while you're over here that we can send out to the
[3192.71] Frank: audience and hopefully get some ideas by the time you're over.
[3197.11] Koel: So. Let's see. Bandos are cool.
[3205.59] Koel: So, oh, yeah, very, very cool. Bandos are cool.
[3211.35] Koel: Accessible Bandos that aren't like toxic to enter potentially are good.
[3218.79] Frank: So I don't.
[3220.31] Koel: Yeah, I guess.
[3221.51] Koel: Okay.
[3222.07] Koel: Any any kind of cool structures that you can that any cool structure that have somewhat big openings.
[3232.63] Koel: I guess beautiful field areas or cliffs that allow me to not go over the sea too far or.
[3243.59] Koel: I don't know anything anything that's like.
[3251.54] Koel: Interesting, I guess I'm not that picky.
[3253.62] Koel: Like I actually I end up realizing I enjoy spots.
[3256.74] Koel: Like I've flown a lot of really crazy spots, but I don't necessarily need to fly crazy spots to
[3261.94] Koel: have fun. But if there's crazy spots to fly, I mean, I'm all for it.
[3268.61] Koel: So some cliffs, maybe some bandos that are not disgustingly toxic and whatever.
[3274.85] Koel: Some structure that have openings that you could freestyle around.
[3281.17] Koel: Or even just like beautiful, like the rolling fields of.
[3285.65] Koel: I know you guys have some cool stuff like that.
[3290.45] Stephen: Oh, I don't know.
[3293.01] Stephen: I've just spent the last minute looking at the video that Jack posted thinking,
[3296.77] Stephen: oh, there must be a way to make it bigger. And they're literally.
[3301.97] Stephen: You're right.
[3303.41] Stephen: I am.
[3303.89] Stephen: What the hell is going on?
[3308.45] Koel: Yeah, I don't know. Sorry, guys.
[3310.37] Koel: I'm just learning technology.
[3311.97] Stephen: My space is to fly.
[3314.13] Stephen: I'm just kind of addicted to flying through woods and funny little awkward spaces.
[3320.37] Stephen: But I know that doesn't work very well if you have analog.
[3323.09] Stephen: That's the one I flew with that had analog complaint.
[3326.61] Stephen: It was unflyable.
[3329.49] Koel: Thing is like it also depends on what the people you're flying with are using.
[3333.89] Koel: Because I think there is such thing as good analog and bad analog and good antennas, bad antennas.
[3341.97] Stephen: But you are in possession of premium Canadian antenna equipment.
[3345.57] Koel: So that's right.
[3349.49] Koel: Yeah.
[3350.37] Koel: Yeah, I don't mind flying through woods.
[3352.93] Koel: You know what?
[3353.41] Koel: That's actually one thing that I haven't really done.
[3355.73] Koel: I've flown like the old that trees are around and stuff,
[3359.89] Koel: but I've never really flown like through the woods.
[3363.89] Stephen: Because there's paths here where the paths are under the bowels of the trees, right?
[3367.89] Stephen: Where you've got like a total tree canopy.
[3369.89] Stephen: And then you can just have a tunnel where you shoot through the trees for 30 meters
[3375.49] Stephen: and then shoot out into free space again.
[3378.21] Koel: Oh, you mean like up top and then kind of come back down or you mean like?
[3381.41] Stephen: Or you just come out into like an open space where there's some grass.
[3384.77] Stephen: And then there's a pathway where it's like 20 or 30 yards through a bunch of
[3389.41] Stephen: through tree canopies where there's kind of a tunnel through the trees.
[3392.37] Stephen: And you just shoot through that and then out the other side.
[3394.93] Koel: Oh, that's pretty cool.
[3396.29] Koel: And you know that one video, like the really OG FPV video where it's like
[3401.33] Koel: it's almost like the pod racing kind of through the Star Wars.
[3404.69] Koel: Yeah, that would be cool as long as it's not tons of scrag,
[3410.29] Koel: like if it's kind of maintained in some way,
[3412.29] Koel: which is kind of a lot to ask, I guess, for the woods.
[3415.09] Stephen: Well, not really.
[3415.81] Stephen: There's authorities that manage the woods.
[3417.89] Stephen: So yeah, they're all maintained, at least around here they are.
[3422.29] Koel: And the nice thing about or seemingly the nice thing about spots like that would be like
[3427.41] Koel: you're not generally you're not flying like you're not freestyling there.
[3431.89] Koel: You're you're flying through and you're finding ways to get around.
[3434.77] Stephen: Yeah, you're not like just constantly ripping power loops.
[3438.21] Stephen: You're finding a line, I guess, but not in a stunning way.
[3442.29] Koel: You're finding your way through like you're traversing.
[3445.09] Koel: It's not like you're max throttling all the time.
[3447.41] Koel: So you're not probably going to get stuck up in the top of a tree.
[3451.49] Stephen: Unless you find a dive gap, you absolutely insist on hitting.
[3457.41] Koel: But yeah, you don't have to.
[3460.53] Koel: That's that's your call.
[3462.53] Koel: One thing that I will say about 2025 is that I do want to fly more five inch freestyle,
[3469.25] Koel: because I feel like 2024, I completely neglected it.
[3472.85] Koel: Although it's not necessarily true, because 2024, I did learn to Maddie flip.
[3478.29] Koel: I did learn to I did it on a few, like pretty cool spots.
[3484.21] Koel: I did some some freestyle stuff that I would say I'm like somewhat proud of.
[3488.93] Koel: But I want to go back to because I did a lot of long range this year or last year.
[3494.05] Koel: And I think the five inches actually more capable than I realize.
[3498.85] Koel: So I want to kind of push the limits of my five inch a bit more.
[3502.53] Koel: I don't know.
[3504.21] Koel: I got to see.
[3507.86] Jack: You know, I have got an idea that I kind of want to run run by you guys.
[3516.98] Jack: So there is a there's a playlist.
[3521.14] Jack: I don't know whether you guys are familiar, but Harry Dwyer, he gets a little mini speedboat,
[3529.62] Jack: and he's slowly driving it round to the UK, round the outside of the UK.
[3537.38] Jack: And you're saying about like the south coast and that.
[3541.54] Jack: And the episode I'm most interested in is episode five, where he God shared the wrong one.
[3554.58] Jack: Share screen, part five.
[3557.86] Jack: And basically, there's this guy that's like poor, abandoned defense island.
[3567.14] Jack: And I wondered maybe we could get in touch with him.
[3569.94] Jack: And he kind of like does a few tours and stuff.
[3573.06] Jack: And then there's like, you know,
[3577.54] Koel: Oh, those are beautiful.
[3579.38] Jack: It doesn't even look like some tropics secluded beach and stuff.
[3584.42] Jack: And yeah, and yeah, it's like part to the UK that he kind of like shows that you just wouldn't believe.
[3592.58] Jack: Oof, that was fun looking.
[3595.3] Jack: Yeah.
[3597.06] Jack: But look how clear, look how clear this water is.
[3601.06] Jack: Like parts of the UK that you just wouldn't believe are real.
[3605.54] Koel: And that time of year I'm coming, it'll be the hottest.
[3607.78] Koel: So it's yeah.
[3609.38] Koel: Yeah.
[3610.98] Koel: Although, yeah, dude, I mean,
[3613.86] Koel: I think if like, I guess the real question is how much time we're going to be allocating for
[3620.58] Koel: said adventurousness.
[3623.86] Koel: If that's a real word.
[3625.86] Koel: Hey, Alan.
[3631.06] Koel: We have to figure out a time sort of time chunk or, you know, we'd have to sort of do a little
[3637.7] Koel: planning to see what makes sense for whoever plans to do it, right?
[3643.62] Koel: Because I'm thinking it'll be like, I'll probably come down for like 10 days,
[3647.7] Koel: two weeks, something like that kind of thing.
[3651.86] Koel: Obviously, for LDO 10 year, that's kind of like the main reason.
[3656.9] Koel: Plus, he jacks the everybody.
[3658.82] Koel: But if we can toss in like a couple sweet days of lines and cool spots, I'd be all for it, man.
[3670.56] Frank: We should definitely do this.
[3672.8] Koel: Oh, yeah.
[3673.12] Koel: And if anybody in the UK wants to give me their couch to sleep on,
[3678.48] Koel: that would be great.
[3679.28] Frank: There is a spare beds immediately to the left of the screen.
[3684.88] Frank: Okay.
[3685.68] Koel: Noise fall back on that.
[3687.2] Koel: Okay.
[3687.76] Koel: Because I'm like, if someone puts me up for a couple days here, if I have to pay for a hotel
[3692.16] Koel: for a couple days there, if I have to sleep in a bus stop for a couple days, it'll be fine.
[3696.96] Koel: It'll be just fine.
[3698.56] Jack: You don't have to stop it, man.
[3701.76] Koel: I'm sure there'll be some apartment stairs that they left the door open.
[3704.64] Koel: I can just, you know, you can sneak in.
[3707.44] Frank: Well, you're so interested in the bandos, right?
[3709.52] Frank: You're not actually looking for flying spots.
[3712.16] Koel: I'm looking for somewhere to sleep.
[3713.44] Frank: Rest my head.
[3716.24] Koel: Right?
[3717.28] Koel: Noise.
[3719.83] Koel: Oh, Caroline.
[3720.79] Jack: Sweet.
[3723.59] Koel: It's a little high up there.
[3724.39] Jack: You'll choose North, though.
[3725.83] Jack: Yeah.
[3726.47] Koel: That's where all the bandos are, though, isn't it?
[3729.19] Jack: Yeah.
[3732.39] Jack: Right.
[3732.79] Jack: That is all we've got time for.
[3734.55] Jack: Our show is supported by our lovely Patreons.
[3737.11] Jack: We love you guys.
[3738.07] Jack: Thank you very much.
[3741.43] Jack: You've been listening to Lecturer now, wishing everyone a very happy new year.
[3746.31] Jack: And hopefully we can have a blast this year and do some stuff that we've never done before.
[3752.07] Jack: So, yeah, if you've got any change, please consider supporting the show.
[3757.27] Jack: And hopefully we can all meet up and do some stuff.
[3760.71] Jack: And, you know, we can go on to do some more great stuff.
[3764.55] Jack: And Frank can get super excited about organizing it.
[3770.55] Frank: I don't know where that is where that ended up.
[3772.87] Frank: That is not where.
[3774.55] Jack: And I will be whilst he's organizing it, I will previously be building stuff for him.
[3781.19] Jack: Getting his pile of dooms done.
[3784.47] Jack: And flying.
[3785.03] Jack: And flying, doing a lot more flying this year.
[3789.99] Jack: That's our New Year's resolution.
[3791.59] Jack: That's all of our New Year's resolution.
[3794.55] Jack: You've been joined by our Lord and Master, Andrew Sashrank.
[3801.99] Jack: The man with the most star, Stephen.
[3804.95] Jack: Good to see everyone.
[3805.75] Stephen: Happy 2020 five.
[3807.91] Jack: Better late than never, Carl.
[3810.31] Jack: See you.
[3810.63] Koel: Happy new year.
[3812.47] Koel: Sorry, my tardiness.
[3815.03] Jack: An un un un un unapproved, unsupported, too small video.
[3821.43] Jack: It's what you do with it.
[3822.31] Jack: It counts.
[3824.07] Jack: Right on the fly.
[3824.87] Jack: Thank you.
[3825.35] Jack: Good night.
[3826.39] Koel: Yes.
[3828.55] Koel: Telemetry loss.
