Massive thank you to. [14.0] Jack: Carlos Campos. [16.0] Jack: Art Faulkner. [18.0] Frank: Sam Dahmer. [19.0] Frank: On with the show. [21.0] Curry: Let's drone out now. [23.0] Jack: Hello and welcome to Let's Drone Out. [55.19] Jack: It's the first day. [58.19] Jack: I'm the monkey. [63.19] Zoe: I did not know. [64.19] Zoe: I should recalibrate my entire sense of reality now. [68.19] Jack: You are joined by everyone's favorite Curry Kitten. [71.19] Jack: Hello. [73.19] Jack: Our Lord of Master Andrew Sash Frank. [75.19] Jack: Hello. [76.19] Jack: The money was just resting in his account. [79.19] Jack: He's not anymore. [81.19] Jack: The Tony Bate MG FPV. [85.19] Magdalena: Hello. [87.19] Jack: And our guest who is so gracious to come on. [93.19] Jack: The queen of 3D. [96.19] Jack: Thank you for accepting our late invite because I'm an idiot. [101.19] Jack: Zoe FPV. [102.19] Zoe: I'm not supposed to be here this week. [104.19] Zoe: He all caught me on a good time. [106.19] Zoe: So glad I can make the show. [109.19] Jack: I'm supposed to be here since Christmas. [112.19] Jack: It's been a minute. [114.19] Jack: It's been a very long while. [116.19] Frank: Yeah, because we sort of towards the end of last year we had AM32 on and it appeared in the chat there. [123.19] Frank: And that was a great one for you to appear in the chat for because obviously, you know, AM32 3D flying ESC is very important to be able to change the direction of your props very quickly. [136.19] Frank: That was a good one. [138.19] Frank: But, you know, you're sort of the, like Jack said, the queen of 3D. [148.19] Frank: You've got your community of 3D flyers that you've been sort of building up over the years. [154.19] Frank: I mean, your playlist for how to get into 3D flying, that is the sort of the major piece of work to go through. [163.19] Frank: And that's like six years ago now that's been around. [168.19] Frank: So it's interesting to kind of hear what developments have been going on with 3D. [175.19] Frank: That's what I want to know about. [177.19] Zoe: Yeah, a lot. [181.19] Zoe: So getting back into the scene, like I dropped out of FPV for a little bit during COVID, had some health issues and coming back into FPV about a year-ish ago, like there's a lot of stuff that was kind of left on the ground. [199.19] Zoe: Like we didn't have three and a half inch 3D, we didn't have, you know, AM32 at the time, it was all BL-HOLA32. [207.19] Zoe: And halfway through last year, BL-HOLA32 being like the de facto software and firmware that we use for 3D modes. [218.19] Zoe: It's essentially the key thing. [220.19] Zoe: Like you can have good motors, you can have a good flight controller, but the biggest factor for a good flying 3D quad, even propellers, is your ESC, your electronic speed controller. [231.19] Zoe: Like that thing actually makes the motors go from positive to negative, starts and stops them. [236.19] Zoe: Without that key piece, everything kind of falls apart. [240.19] Zoe: And last year, thanks to the Ukraine and Russian war, there was a project, BL-HOLA32, which there's still hardware being sold with it, is basically caved and the update servers were taken offline. [260.19] Zoe: The entire project shut down overnight without really any notice. [263.19] Zoe: And it shut down because of export controls that were being put on the company because of the Ukraine-Russian war. [270.19] Zoe: So here's this war on the other side of the world, essentially affecting 3D hobbyists, which sucks. [277.19] Zoe: And, you know, also I feel horrible because, you know, the conflict itself is really bad. [285.19] Zoe: You know, it's horrible. [287.19] Zoe: That's something that I love, effectively has been turned into a direct weapon of war. [292.19] Zoe: You know, five, ten years ago, you know, I think almost everybody in FPV, you heard drone. [301.19] Zoe: And as an FPV hobbyist, you'd be like, oh, we're not like those war machines. [307.19] Zoe: We're different. [309.19] Zoe: No, we're a little floppy, floppy freestyle drones. [312.19] Zoe: We're innocent. [313.19] Zoe: Like, we're different than them. [314.19] Zoe: Now, it's like, nah, I mean, they're just strapping weapons. [319.19] Zoe: The ammunition is the same things that we fly. [322.19] Zoe: And all of a sudden, this thing that I never really thought so soon that every turn into a weapon is now weaponized. [332.19] Zoe: And with it, the worldview of what we do is also kind of weaponized. [338.19] Zoe: And so Bill held A32 was one of those things that kind of got caught up in all that. [344.19] Zoe: And it's really funny and sad is that A32 is open source. [349.19] Zoe: It's 32-bit architecture. [352.19] Zoe: And being open source means it's not hard to shut down that project. [357.19] Zoe: I mean, that project will continue to live on. [359.19] Zoe: And that's kind of the whole thing of why I've been very supportive of the project. [364.19] Zoe: The developers have been very supportive of 3D mode. [367.19] Zoe: And A32 is kind of seen as the next step to replace Bill held A32. [375.19] Zoe: It has active development. [378.19] Zoe: It has active developers. [380.19] Zoe: We have some of the same developers that work with Betaflight also help develop out A32. [386.19] Zoe: And there's a lot of love in the community for the A32 project. [390.19] Zoe: And because of that, it's had a lot of rapid development. [394.19] Zoe: And so Bill held A32 got shut down. [397.19] Zoe: There was a crisis within the 3D world. [399.19] Zoe: I mean, it affected a lot of people, but specifically 3D pilots. [404.19] Zoe: There were several of them that were like, well, I guess I'm done now. [407.19] Zoe: I'm not going to be able to get the hardware I need to do what I need. [411.19] Zoe: Now we have a solution. [413.19] Zoe: AM32 2.17 works amazingly well for 3D mode. [418.19] Zoe: On top of that, we went from not having a good solution to not having a better solution. [423.19] Zoe: AM32, I believe, works better than Bill held A32 did at the top of it. [428.19] Zoe: And KISS, even the successor to KISS supports AM32's project. [436.19] Zoe: The entire community has been very supportive of it. [445.19] Zoe: And thankfully, because now we have that, ironically, now AM32 is as efficient, if not more efficient, than Bill held A32. [454.19] Zoe: Cheaper, it has brought down the cost of hardware substantially. [458.19] Zoe: No longer do you need to pay $140 for a premium Bill held A32 stack. [463.19] Zoe: You can pay $70 and get a flywheel Goku stack that does just as good. [470.19] Zoe: And so if anything, in the weirdest of ways, it also brought down the cost of war. [477.19] Zoe: Because now the same hardware, the same software can be used for the same things that were trying to be stopped. [485.19] Zoe: But that is the consequence of things, you know. [493.19] Zoe: And that's something I'm very aware of too. [496.19] Zoe: It's like a lot of Pandora's box. [498.19] Zoe: Our hobby and FEV is much more than just a weapon. [503.19] Zoe: It is like drones in particular are a platform that can be used for many different things. [508.19] Zoe: And we have to continuously show that it can be used for good. [513.19] Zoe: Because there's going to be those that will use it for bad. [517.19] Zoe: And unlike a gun, drones can be used so much more for them just delivering ordnance. [523.19] Zoe: And yeah, I think just by bringing down the cost of everything with open source technologies, [533.19] Zoe: allows more people to be able to enter that market, more projects to be able to be created, [538.19] Zoe: allows it to grow more organically. [544.19] Zoe: No longer can one project be shut down and allows it to live on. [549.19] Zoe: And I think that's really important, especially within the community of pilots. [554.19] Zoe: In no other consumer industry do you see such an open source initiative with software and hardware, [562.19] Zoe: as you do within the FEV drone scene. [567.19] Zoe: And I think right now, especially with everything that's happening, [571.19] Zoe: it's very important that we continually support those efforts. [574.19] Zoe: Because as I've seen, one project can be shut down if it's closed source. [578.19] Zoe: And then all of a sudden you're left with a bunch of people wondering, what do we do? [584.19] Zoe: And that's why I will always be open source. [586.19] Zoe: That's why every frame design that I work on is open sourced. [589.19] Zoe: That's why things that I do, I like to try to open source and make available. [595.19] Zoe: Because I want to live on beyond me. [598.19] Zoe: And that's another reason why I like the AM32 devs. [603.19] Zoe: They want to make a project that is for the community. [609.19] Zoe: And it sucks because it's really hard to directly monetize that for the developers, [614.19] Zoe: for them to get their direct compensation. [619.19] Zoe: That's the biggest issue with any of these projects, is how do you support the developers? [623.19] Zoe: How do you support the beta fight devs? [625.19] Zoe: How do the developers get their piece of the pie? [631.19] Zoe: And I think that's one of the reasons why BL-HELA32 went closed sourced. [636.19] Zoe: They wanted to be able to have that licensing fee to support their efforts. [641.19] Zoe: And so it's really like a catch-22, right? [644.19] Zoe: Open source is the best way forward, but then how do you support the developers? [649.19] Zoe: And same thing, closed source supports the developers, [652.19] Zoe: but then you run risk of the community being run afoul. [657.19] Zoe: And right now, especially, I think it's important we try to support the developers [662.19] Zoe: as much as we can, either through donations or just supporting the project more [667.19] Zoe: with testing and everything else you can to support those projects. [672.19] Zoe: Because it takes a lot of time, effort, and energy. [674.19] Zoe: And I know the developers of AM32 have put in a lot of time, effort, and energy into the project. [681.19] Zoe: So anyways, that was my spiel of AM32 and BL-HELA32. [688.19] Frank: It's fascinating to see how that's gone. [692.19] Frank: And like you say, the community has continued and found another way. [698.19] Frank: And that 3D is still going strong is great to hear. [703.19] Frank: I mean, you've recently put out a video where I feel like you're flying [708.19] Frank: at least two drones at any one time in this video. [712.19] Frank: Yes. [714.19] Zoe: That is my UMO. [718.19] Zoe: I've been lucky enough to get the Haver Air selfie drone. [724.19] Zoe: And I've seen a couple of people using the Neo too. [727.19] Zoe: But most of the time, I like to fly two drones at once. [730.19] Zoe: I'll have a selfie drone or something on me. [733.19] Zoe: Or I'll take the DJI Potato. [735.19] Zoe: I'll fly it into position. [737.19] Zoe: And then I'll just have it in one spot. [739.19] Zoe: And then I'll fly out in front of it with another drone. [744.19] Zoe: I'll do the 3D. [747.19] Zoe: It feels a little bit like the major, the Toku Kusanagi from Ghost in the Shell. [753.19] Zoe: She'll have multiple bodies at one point. [755.19] Zoe: Like, OK, one's over here, one's over here. [759.19] Zoe: And it's kind of a new style. [760.19] Zoe: Like, the last log I shot was all drone footage. [763.19] Zoe: Like, every time I was talking to the camera, [765.19] Zoe: I was talking into a drone that was, you know, filming me. [770.19] Zoe: All the footage was 100% drone-based. [773.19] Zoe: And it's really neat because, one, [778.19] Zoe: I don't think these self-flying drones would be this good so soon. [782.19] Zoe: And two, if that's the current state of where they are now, [785.19] Zoe: like, where are they going to be five, ten years from now? [789.19] Frank: Yeah, I mean, it's very impressive because I'm watching the video. [793.19] Frank: And apart from you saying, oh, this is all shot by drones, [798.19] Frank: like, that I am flying at the same time. [800.19] Frank: It's not something that occurs to you watching the video. [803.19] Frank: Like, the way that you've, you know, filmed that [806.19] Frank: and edited it and put it all together. [808.19] Frank: And it just seems like a perfectly, you know, [812.19] Frank: like, it seems like a very high-quality production [815.19] Frank: for something where that's you on your own putting that all together. [818.19] Frank: And it's very impressive what you've done there. [822.19] Zoe: Well, let's move to the last video. [825.19] Zoe: Like, that was me just testing out the equipment. [827.19] Zoe: I was like, I need to go to the field, and I don't know why. [830.19] Zoe: And then it turned into, like, a really decent review video. [834.19] Zoe: Yeah. [837.19] Zoe: I kind of want to keep doing content like that. [839.19] Zoe: It's also a style change. [842.19] Zoe: That entire video was comfy. [845.19] Zoe: Like, so over the holidays, [847.19] Zoe: I was visiting my girlfriend at her parents' house, [850.19] Zoe: and one for kids brought up this YouTuber [853.19] Zoe: that makes this, like, comfy style content. [856.19] Zoe: No talking in it. [857.19] Zoe: It's just them building something, and it's just comfy. [861.19] Zoe: It's just a very comfy video. [863.19] Zoe: I don't know how to explain it. [865.19] Jack: Cozy content. [866.19] Zoe: Cozy content. [867.19] Zoe: It's a thing. [868.19] Zoe: And it's just, like, one of it in FPV. [872.19] Zoe: Like, you have punks. [874.19] Zoe: You have, like, the, oh, let's make some cool FPV content. [878.19] Zoe: And then you have the RotoRiot spinoff, like, vibe, [882.19] Zoe: which is, like, you know, more punk scene, right? [886.19] Zoe: But I don't... [887.19] Frank: There's a lot of high adrenaline, like, you know, [890.19] Frank: extreme type feelings and everything. [893.19] Frank: And this is, like, you know, completely separate. [896.19] Frank: It's a completely different vibe, like you say. [899.19] Zoe: It's weird because it's the first... [901.19] Zoe: Yeah, exactly! [903.19] Zoe: And it's a comfy, cozy feel, right? [907.19] Zoe: It just brings you to that place. [910.19] Zoe: Yeah, have you played MG? [912.19] Magdalena: Nope. [915.19] Zoe: It's good. [917.19] Curry: It's a super scary game. [919.19] Curry: That seems to be a big thing. [921.19] Curry: You see them pop up all the time. [923.19] Curry: Like, there's this game called Unpacking, [926.19] Curry: where you just take things from this truck [928.19] Curry: and you sort of arrange them into a room. [930.19] Curry: And that's the level. [931.19] Curry: And it's like, well, that looks nice there. [933.19] Curry: Nice. [936.19] Frank: Yeah, so you've managed to take, like... [939.19] Frank: Like, this is quite a stark architectural location. [945.19] Frank: And you've got three drones that you're flying at the same time. [948.19] Frank: And you've somehow made that a comfy, cozy atmosphere [952.19] Frank: rather than adrenaline-fueled, extreme, [956.19] Frank: undoing something intense. [959.19] Frank: You've made that a relaxing place to watch. [963.19] Frank: That is a very different tone and quite impressive. [967.19] Zoe: I like it. [969.19] Zoe: And I was really inspired by just, like... [971.19] Zoe: One, I've been making content for YouTube for almost 10 years now. [977.19] Zoe: And as an artist, it's comfortable as an artist [982.19] Zoe: to keep making the content you're comfortable making. [986.19] Zoe: But also, I think now, especially for where the world is, [990.19] Zoe: there's a lot of, I don't know... [993.19] Zoe: People need comfortable oases [996.19] Zoe: to be able to relax and decompress. [1001.19] Zoe: And that was one of the reasons why I like making that style of content. [1006.19] Zoe: It's just weird because every time I make any 3D video with my 3D flying, [1011.19] Zoe: I would put dubstep or something aggressive [1015.19] Zoe: and something that I like. [1017.19] Zoe: But watching my 3D flying with lo-fi music in the background, [1021.19] Zoe: completely different feeling for some reason. [1024.19] Zoe: It's like, oh, it's just kind of different, a little less intense. [1031.19] Zoe: Yeah. [1033.19] Zoe: I'm probably going to make a more comfortable content. [1036.19] Frank: Yeah, well, that's what I was going to say. [1038.19] Frank: Because it's a kind of more meditative atmosphere, [1042.19] Frank: a different way of looking at FPV. [1046.19] Frank: That then makes me think of what MG's recently put out. [1050.19] Frank: You've been chasing down the coastline [1055.19] Frank: and having these nice, smooth cinematic shots over the sea. [1059.19] Frank: I mean, that is an oasis in itself, isn't it? [1062.19] Magdalena: Man, that was scary. [1064.19] Magdalena: Because that was the place when I lost my drone almost three years ago. [1069.19] Magdalena: Yeah, almost three years ago. [1071.19] Magdalena: So I was flying above the cliffs and then I was diving [1074.19] Magdalena: and I lost my signal above the water. [1076.19] Magdalena: So I went to the sea to find the drone, but obviously no luck with it. [1080.19] Magdalena: And then, yeah, I was talking to Polish guys. [1083.19] Magdalena: I never went with other Polish guys for FPV adventures and stuff like that. [1087.19] Magdalena: And they've been like, oh, by the way, we're going here. [1089.19] Magdalena: Why would you like to go with us? [1090.19] Magdalena: And I was like, yeah, where are you going? [1092.19] Magdalena: What about by time? [1093.19] Magdalena: And I was like, this is where I lost my drone last time. [1097.19] Magdalena: I don't know if I want to go there. [1099.19] Magdalena: So my first flight was like I was shaking seriously. [1103.19] Magdalena: Normally I can like stand like easily like on my feet without any problems. [1108.19] Magdalena: But this time, like when I had my first flight, my legs been so shaky. [1115.19] Magdalena: Like I couldn't stand. [1116.19] Magdalena: I was like, what the heck? [1118.19] Magdalena: Like I couldn't like. [1120.19] Magdalena: And I was thinking as well, like, oh, my God, I don't want to crash. [1123.19] Magdalena: I don't want to lose a signal or anything like this. [1125.19] Magdalena: I didn't know how far I'm going as well. [1127.19] Magdalena: And then they told me, oh, yeah, you went around like two kilometers. [1130.19] Magdalena: So I don't know. [1131.19] Magdalena: This is like one point three mile or something like this. [1134.19] Magdalena: And I was like, inhale. [1136.19] Magdalena: And then the second flight, I was like, OK, I need to sit down now [1140.19] Magdalena: and calm a bit because I cannot even focus. [1143.19] Magdalena: So, yeah, the other flight was like I was diving. [1146.19] Magdalena: I posed at the other post. [1148.19] Magdalena: So when I was diving that tiny cliff, I lost signal at some point. [1153.19] Magdalena: Oh, I had like totally like black screen in my goggles. [1157.19] Magdalena: And I was like, no, please, no, I don't want to lose my drone here again. [1161.19] Magdalena: But then the signal came back and I was like, oh, thank you. [1164.19] Magdalena: So, yeah, it was nice. [1166.19] Magdalena: It was nice. [1169.19] Magdalena: And analog, that's the other thing, like I'm thinking to switch to digital. [1174.19] Magdalena: But I don't know. [1176.19] Magdalena: I mean, obviously, all like all of us is like old school. [1179.19] Magdalena: So all of us started with like analog and I still love analog. [1183.19] Magdalena: But when my friend gave me his goggles, like he have a DJI goggles. [1187.19] Magdalena: And I've seen the video, his video from his goggles. [1191.19] Magdalena: I was like, oh, my God, that is a game changer, in my opinion, [1195.19] Magdalena: because you can see much better everything. [1197.19] Magdalena: And then, in my opinion, that's why people pushing much more like if you can see everything much more clearly, [1202.19] Magdalena: you can fly like closer to everything and stuff like that. [1205.19] Magdalena: And obviously, with analog is not so easy. [1207.19] Magdalena: I mean, it's not so easy. [1209.19] Magdalena: It is still, but you can see everything so clearly. [1212.19] Magdalena: So, yeah, I don't know. [1214.19] Magdalena: We will see. [1215.19] Frank: Yeah, I mean, I flew my own DJI FPV quad for the first time at the weekend. [1223.19] Frank: I know I'm a scam, but I'm a dirty scam. [1226.19] Frank: But I want to do it. [1230.19] Frank: I know. [1231.19] Frank: I know. [1232.19] Frank: But I've had the goggles for a while for another project. [1235.19] Frank: But I've sort of worn the goggles and had arrived with other people flying DJI. [1243.19] Frank: But this is the best time I've flown my own quad with DJI FPV on it. [1247.19] Frank: And, yeah, I was like, the GPS had broken on it. [1251.19] Frank: So I had no GPS rescue or anything like that. [1253.19] Frank: So I was like, I should definitely stay close by. [1256.19] Frank: But I flew further than I have ever flown an analog. [1259.19] Frank: Just because it just I don't know if it's a false sense of security, [1263.19] Frank: but there was just a sense of this feels like I can see everything, [1267.19] Frank: like everything is so secure and locked in. [1272.19] Frank: And so I just carried on flying. [1275.19] Frank: And I flew till the battery was dead. [1280.19] Frank: Very dead. [1281.19] Magdalena: I forgot to mention something as well. [1285.19] Magdalena: I killed my battery as well. [1288.19] Magdalena: So that was like 3.5 volts, I think. [1293.19] Magdalena: And I was like, OK, let's do another dive. [1295.19] Magdalena: The dive like the cliff, which I wanted to dive, wasn't been so far. [1299.19] Magdalena: But the battery was beeping and it was like on my goggles. [1302.19] Magdalena: Land now, land now. [1303.19] Magdalena: I was like, no, I will go for it. [1306.19] Magdalena: So once I was diving, I noticed that the drone didn't have any power at all. [1313.19] Magdalena: And at the beginning, I was slightly above the water. [1316.19] Magdalena: And I was like, please, please, be at least above the beach and stuff like that. [1320.19] Magdalena: So, yeah, it landed on the stones. [1322.19] Magdalena: And then the guys asked me, like, where did you land? [1325.19] Magdalena: And I was like, I didn't land. [1327.19] Magdalena: I crashed because of my battery. [1329.19] Magdalena: And they were like, what? [1330.19] Magdalena: What was the voltage? [1331.19] Magdalena: And I was like, it was 3.4 and then it went to 3 and then 2.86 for the end. [1338.19] Magdalena: Can I throw my battery? [1340.19] Magdalena: And then they've been like, because there was a guy like on the beach with a tent. [1344.19] Magdalena: I think he was a that was a fisherman. [1347.19] Magdalena: And they asked me like, are you like not not far from him? [1350.19] Magdalena: And I was like, yeah, I think so. [1351.19] Magdalena: No, I was like at the end of the beach. [1353.19] Magdalena: So it was like really long walk of shame. [1356.19] Jack: So, yeah. [1357.19] Magdalena: Can I throw you under the bus? [1361.19] Jack: Yes. [1362.19] Jack: Someone built slash bought a 6S. [1366.19] Jack: And what battery did you use? [1368.19] Magdalena: 6S. [1370.19] Jack: Did you? [1371.19] Jack: I heard you used a 4S. [1373.19] Magdalena: No, no, because I have new drone now. [1375.19] Jack: Is that for something else? [1376.19] Magdalena: Yeah. [1377.19] Magdalena: The last drone, which I lost in the same place, it was 4S. [1381.19] Magdalena: And then I was thinking, like, I need 6S drone now. [1384.19] Magdalena: So, yeah, new battery as well. [1386.19] Magdalena: Maybe I flew on that battery like twice. [1389.19] Magdalena: I think so. [1390.19] Magdalena: Maybe once only. [1391.19] Jack: So, yeah. [1392.19] Jack: It happens. [1393.19] Jack: 6S drop off is unreal. [1394.19] Jack: No, no, no. [1395.19] Magdalena: It was my fault. [1396.19] Magdalena: It was my fault. [1397.19] Magdalena: I should be like so close to me when I was like on 3.5 volts. [1401.19] Magdalena: Right. [1402.19] Magdalena: So I was like, OK, it's fine. [1405.19] Frank: But when it's going well, it's just so hard to keep to the limit, isn't it? [1411.19] Frank: Exactly. [1412.19] Frank: It's something to carry on. [1413.19] Magdalena: But before I was always landing like at 3.7. [1417.19] Magdalena: The guy still be like, no, no, you can still fly. [1419.19] Magdalena: I mean, you can you can land around like 3.5 or the worst will be 3.3. [1424.19] Magdalena: And I was like, what? [1426.19] Magdalena: No. [1427.19] Magdalena: Then you kidding your battery or the battery is not as good as if you landing like when. [1431.19] Magdalena: I don't know. [1432.19] Magdalena: I used to land on like 3.7 just in case. [1435.19] Magdalena: And my batteries last for like at least few years anyway. [1439.19] Magdalena: But yeah, I don't know what I was thinking. [1441.19] Magdalena: Like I can still dive that cliff. [1443.19] Magdalena: Never mind. [1444.19] Zoe: I mean, I get lost all the time. [1446.19] Zoe: It just happens. [1447.19] Zoe: Like, oh, this is so much fun. [1449.19] Zoe: The battery will stop. [1451.19] Magdalena: Exactly. [1454.19] Magdalena: Almost every time. [1455.19] Zoe: Like, oh, unintentional landings. [1457.19] Zoe: Cool. [1458.19] Zoe: Still have fun, though. [1460.19] Magdalena: Yeah. [1462.19] Frank: So, so, MG, is that enough of a good experience again that that's giving you the bug and you're [1469.19] Frank: going to carry on flying? [1471.19] Magdalena: I want to fly as much as I can actually. [1474.19] Magdalena: Like, I wish to take my drone now with me on holiday, but because of I'm going to Morocco, [1479.19] Magdalena: obviously, Africa, you I mean, you can still try to bring it with you. [1486.19] Magdalena: But they said they might take it from me on the customs. [1489.19] Magdalena: And this is the same situation with Egypt because I went to Egypt last year in October. [1494.19] Magdalena: And I wanted to take the drone, but they've been like, no, no, no, don't do it. [1497.19] Magdalena: Don't do it. [1498.19] Magdalena: And I said, come on, because the thing is like I'm going on the surf camp as well. [1502.19] Magdalena: So I never did surfing in my life. [1504.19] Magdalena: That's the other thing. [1505.19] Magdalena: So, yeah, never mind. [1506.19] Magdalena: So I was thinking I could film some surfers over there. [1509.19] Magdalena: But no, they said, no, you cannot. [1511.19] Magdalena: But for you to don't bring the drone with you because. [1514.19] Magdalena: Yeah, because I'm not going to get it back and stuff like that. [1518.19] Magdalena: So, yeah, maybe next holidays I have like three months off now. [1522.19] Magdalena: So I'm planning a lot of trips. [1525.19] Magdalena: Actually, I don't know if you remember the girl. [1529.19] Magdalena: She was flying drones. [1531.19] Magdalena: She used to live in Mallorca. [1534.19] Frank: Kira FPV. [1537.19] Frank: The blonde girl. [1538.19] Magdalena: So, yeah. [1539.19] Magdalena: So I was talking to her lately and she invited me because she came back to Germany now. [1543.19] Magdalena: So she invited me to come to Germany and maybe we could do like girls' road trip [1549.19] Magdalena: in her campervan with drones. [1552.19] Magdalena: Cool. [1553.19] Magdalena: So, yeah, that's that's our plan for March. [1555.19] Jack: That's a sore subject for Zoe. [1557.19] Jack: Zoe's not a fan of campervans anymore. [1560.19] Magdalena: I don't think so. [1563.19] Zoe: I am just passing my life lately. [1571.19] Magdalena: So, yeah, I hope I will be able to fly much more. [1575.19] Magdalena: It's not like I finished with all of this. [1577.19] Magdalena: No, no, no, no, no. [1578.19] Magdalena: I just need to come back to it because that was the best feeling in the world. [1581.19] Magdalena: Like I do remember like going going on the FPV sessions and then on the way back [1587.19] Magdalena: always like in the car I was quiet because I was downloading already like all of the [1591.19] Magdalena: videos from GoPro checking it and stuff like that. [1594.19] Magdalena: And I was like, no. [1595.19] Magdalena: So, yeah, there will be more definitely more. [1598.19] Frank: Excellent. [1600.19] Frank: This episode was recorded in front of a live online audience, downloaded and edited to [1605.19] Frank: make sense when it played audio only, censored to please the iTunes people, hosted on the [1610.19] Frank: Internet, forwarded through to your podcast provider, downloaded, playing on your device [1614.19] Frank: and is now playing in your ears. [1616.19] Frank: All thanks to our Patreons. [1618.19] Frank: Consider joining them and you'll also get other online benefits. [1621.19] Frank: Find out more at Patreon.com forward slash Let's Drone Out. [1626.19] Frank: And Zoe, do you think you're going to be doing more of your three camera drone simultaneous reviews? [1634.19] Zoe: All the time. [1635.19] Zoe: That's my new format. [1639.19] Zoe: I really like making content. [1644.19] Zoe: It's just something that is part of me when I do. [1649.19] Zoe: And I really like the newer content that I'm doing. [1654.19] Zoe: And honestly, the three drones is almost easier than having a DSLR camera and everything else [1660.19] Zoe: going on now that I've kind of gotten used to the format. [1665.19] Zoe: It's like I just filmed a video at this. [1670.19] Zoe: It's called Liberty Statue Park over near Barstow, California. [1675.19] Zoe: There's amazing statues from artists talking about like the end of communism, basically, [1683.19] Zoe: for the public. [1684.19] Zoe: And I did the same kind of setup. [1686.19] Zoe: I had the camera on me, had the DJI drone getting the pickup shots and then doing 3D [1691.19] Zoe: around myself and the secondary camera while I was flying. [1697.19] Zoe: I think the hardest thing is like you have so many different moving pieces. [1703.19] Zoe: And when you're trying to film solo, you're like, OK, I've got to have that drone charged up. [1707.19] Zoe: I have to have my DJI FPV rig all charged up ready to go. [1711.19] Zoe: Goggles, the GoPro, my unicorn. [1715.19] Zoe: I have the microphone, you know, like that's a lot of equipment. [1719.19] Zoe: One, make sure it's all ready to go, but two, to actually operate in the moment. [1725.19] Zoe: And then any single one of them could have problems. [1729.19] Zoe: The X hover drone, I love it, but it's a little temperamental sometimes. [1735.19] Zoe: Like you'll try to be like, OK, drone, go do the thing. [1739.19] Zoe: It takes off, it tracks you for half a second and then just lands. [1743.19] Zoe: I want to film. [1747.19] Zoe: So that is kind of temperamental and stuff, but it's also getting used to the equipment. [1755.19] Zoe: And that's kind of the thing is just getting out there and doing the thing. [1759.19] Zoe: And I think just going out and having fun, especially the way I filmed it, [1764.19] Zoe: going out and having fun and bringing people along for the ride is really kind of nice. [1770.19] Zoe: Especially in the winter when it's hard to go out and fly for a lot of people. [1775.19] Zoe: Or, you know, I know one of the things that I love to be able to include people on, [1781.19] Zoe: like I want you to be able to come with me and come hang out with me [1785.19] Zoe: and trying to give someone that experience through a video. [1790.19] Zoe: Difficult, but also a fun challenge. [1793.19] Zoe: It's kind of like painted with Bob Ross. [1796.19] Zoe: You're just kind of like, hey, friends, come enjoy. [1800.19] Zoe: Let's paint a little happy tree over here. [1803.19] Jack: Can I ruin Bob Ross for you? [1808.19] Jack: Some people speculate that he was a... [1814.19] Jack: Hang on. [1816.19] Jack: Actually, we play. [1818.19] Jack: This isn't true. [1820.19] Jack: But some people think maybe he might have been a serial killer [1826.19] Jack: and all the paintings are where he hid the bodies. [1831.19] Jack: That's not the case. [1833.19] Jack: It is. [1834.19] Jack: Oh, my God. [1836.19] Jack: Because that man is way too zen. [1845.19] Jack: It's a happy actor and an officer. [1849.19] Curry: Before we came on about different platforms, [1852.19] Curry: and you mentioned about YouTube not performing as well and TikTok, [1856.19] Curry: do you do a different style of video for TikTok? [1859.19] Curry: Because we're talking about Portrait, aren't we? [1864.19] Zoe: So that's a big one. [1866.19] Zoe: So lately... [1868.19] Zoe: So it's getting back to... [1870.19] Zoe: Back up a second. [1872.19] Zoe: When I came back into making content, [1875.19] Zoe: 16 by 9 was the king. [1878.19] Zoe: That was the biggest ratio. [1881.19] Zoe: Long form was a thing. [1883.19] Zoe: I didn't understand short form content. [1885.19] Zoe: I didn't understand the differences between TikTok, [1887.19] Zoe: Instagram, Facebook Reels, YouTube Shorts. [1891.19] Zoe: And initially, when I was trying to figure all that out, [1895.19] Zoe: it was a pain in the butt, [1898.19] Zoe: and I overstressed on it too much. [1903.19] Zoe: Now, this last video I made, [1906.19] Zoe: I filmed it and I edited it. [1908.19] Zoe: I edited the entire shot list in DaVinci in 16 by 9. [1914.19] Zoe: But I also filmed it in a way with some of the shots in 4 by 3 [1919.19] Zoe: to where I could just go into DaVinci [1921.19] Zoe: and change the aspect ratio to vertical. [1924.19] Zoe: And then 90% of it just lines back up for vertical content. [1930.19] Zoe: And then you can export the same content in vertical format. [1936.19] Zoe: It took me a while to understand that you could just do that [1939.19] Zoe: because for what I would do is I'd edit my YouTube videos for 16 by 9. [1943.19] Zoe: And again, 90% of my editing goes into my long form content. [1948.19] Zoe: But 90% of my views come from short form. [1953.19] Zoe: So it's weird because you want to put your art out there. [1958.19] Zoe: You want to put your long form out there. [1959.19] Zoe: I know that's why I enjoy making. [1961.19] Zoe: But on Instagram, I've gotten millions of views [1965.19] Zoe: past year just on Instagram. [1967.19] Zoe: My YouTube, not nearly as much. [1970.19] Zoe: But the content I was making for Instagram [1974.19] Zoe: and started focusing on short form [1976.19] Zoe: is I'd take one of my long form content, [1978.19] Zoe: I'd take a few seconds from it, [1980.19] Zoe: and I'd reformat those few seconds for 16 by 9 by 16. [1985.19] Zoe: But I'd effectively have different content for different platforms. [1991.19] Zoe: The biggest challenge is just trying to think about [1995.19] Zoe: how you can re-edit that content [1997.19] Zoe: by just changing the format [1999.19] Zoe: without having to change everything else about it. [2002.19] Zoe: So TikTok, for instance, has the video upload to YouTube. [2007.19] Zoe: There's a 9 by 16 version of it that's uploaded to TikTok [2010.19] Zoe: in 13 minutes long. [2013.19] Zoe: So you think, oh, TikTok, why would you ever put content [2016.19] Zoe: that's long form on TikTok? [2018.19] Zoe: Well, because TikTok doesn't give a fuck. [2021.19] Zoe: TikTok's platform, it just likes genuine content. [2025.19] Zoe: So if you put out genuine content, [2027.19] Zoe: generally it connects with people. [2031.19] Zoe: And likewise on Instagram. [2033.19] Zoe: My Instagram is kind of like a showreel. [2035.19] Zoe: I put some of my nicer content [2037.19] Zoe: on my Instagram Reels and my main page. [2040.19] Zoe: And then you have Instagram Stories. [2042.19] Zoe: That's where you kind of connect more with your audience, [2045.19] Zoe: you do more off-the-cuff talking to the camera stuff. [2048.19] Zoe: But a lot of that content plays great on TikTok [2051.19] Zoe: because people love it when people just talk into the camera [2054.19] Zoe: and give off-the-cuff expressions itself [2058.19] Zoe: versus highly edited content. [2062.19] Zoe: But TikTok also likes highly edited content, too. [2065.19] Zoe: It's just really TikTok. [2066.19] Zoe: I wish I got on it sooner. [2068.19] Zoe: It is the one platform I have the least amount of following on, [2071.19] Zoe: but it's the one platform I enjoy the most [2073.19] Zoe: because it has the biggest array of content [2078.19] Zoe: that it will push through the algorithm. [2082.19] Zoe: Whereas Instagram, if you're making a reel on Instagram, [2085.19] Zoe: generally you want to leave it only 8 to 12 seconds long [2089.19] Zoe: for viewership. [2092.19] Zoe: If you're doing long form on Instagram, [2094.19] Zoe: you get punished for it, which is stupid. [2099.19] Zoe: That's the biggest thing. [2101.19] Zoe: I want to make content, [2103.19] Zoe: but in order for my content to be seen, [2105.19] Zoe: I still have to bow down to the platforms [2107.19] Zoe: and how they push the algorithm [2109.19] Zoe: and how people interact with that content on those platforms. [2116.82] Zoe: Yeah, I hate it. [2118.82] Frank: Well, I was going to say, [2120.82] Frank: when we spoke about this sort of time last year, [2123.82] Frank: it felt like you were almost moving away from the algorithm [2128.82] Frank: and doing so much to build a community outside of the algorithms. [2135.82] Frank: Is that still a big part of what you're doing? [2139.82] Zoe: Much has been done. [2141.82] Zoe: One of the big things I've done is [2143.82] Zoe: I've re-did my entire social media structure, [2146.82] Zoe: so instead of having a bunch of links in my YouTube comments, [2149.82] Zoe: I just tell people, go to zoeffv.com. [2152.82] Zoe: I think all of my links are there. [2155.82] Zoe: That way, I only have to have zoeffv in the description, [2159.82] Zoe: and I notice YouTube doesn't like giving links out to other websites. [2163.82] Zoe: They want to keep people on their platforms. [2165.82] Frank: Absolutely. [2166.82] Zoe: But if you talk about a website in a YouTube video, [2169.82] Zoe: it's not going to get as like... [2171.82] Zoe: Yeah, right? [2173.82] Zoe: Yeah. [2174.82] Zoe: And by only having to talk about one website, [2177.82] Zoe: it's a lot easier to drop. [2180.82] Zoe: If you want to follow me on Discord, check out my website. [2183.82] Zoe: If you want to check out my store, go to my website. [2186.82] Zoe: If you want to see links to my resume, go to my website, zoeffv.com. [2190.82] Zoe: It is all there. [2192.82] Zoe: So reformatting that is made life easier. [2196.82] Zoe: I have a great Discord community that is definitely outside of the algorithm, [2201.82] Zoe: but I think the biggest thing as a content creator [2205.82] Zoe: is you want your content to be seen, [2208.82] Zoe: and at the end of the day, [2210.82] Zoe: you want the content that people enjoy watching, [2215.82] Zoe: and it's hard to strike that balance sometimes. [2221.82] Frank: With your Discord, you were doing a lot of simulator meets. [2227.82] Frank: Is that still a big thing with video community? [2231.82] Zoe: Yeah, it's still a little less lately, [2235.82] Zoe: but it definitely is still a thing. [2237.82] Zoe: It's just once a month get-togethers that are more public. [2243.82] Zoe: Okay, so my Discord has three levels of hell. [2246.82] Zoe: When I describe them, where are these three levels of access? [2249.82] Zoe: So I have... [2251.82] Zoe: Yeah, ring your bell. [2254.82] Zoe: Well, this is different levels. [2256.82] Zoe: So I have the public room, which is the Bermuda Triangle, [2260.82] Zoe: which is a voice chat. [2262.82] Zoe: Anyone's basically entered in there, and there's very few rules. [2266.82] Zoe: There's a 13 room, but then there is the rift. [2270.82] Zoe: If you're cool enough, and you don't raise red flags, [2274.82] Zoe: and you're like, you know, whatever, [2276.82] Zoe: I tag people so they can get into the interdimensional rift, [2279.82] Zoe: which is an 18-plus chat room so people can be more adult. [2285.82] Zoe: And then I have my inner circle of friends [2287.82] Zoe: that are in a different chat room of access. [2292.82] Zoe: I used to keep everything within the Bermuda Triangle, [2294.82] Zoe: but I noticed my community has people of all ages, [2297.82] Zoe: so trying to make everything more accessible for that [2300.82] Zoe: has been a big thing for me. [2304.82] Zoe: So I've kind of cordoned off certain things. [2308.82] Zoe: Hopefully my audio is still good. [2310.82] Zoe: Yeah. [2311.82] Zoe: Yeah. [2312.82] Zoe: Okay, go. [2314.82] Jack: Area for people who are intellectually challenged, [2318.82] Jack: like me and Tony. [2320.82] Jack: You know, the window, the lick, some blocks, and some crayons. [2326.82] Zoe: No, no, no, no. [2328.82] Zoe: That's mostly like every chat room in my Discord, though. [2331.82] Zoe: Don't worry. [2333.82] Jack: If you want to know, [2335.82] Jack: there is that place in the Let's Grown Out Discord. [2338.82] Jack: It's the hobby RC code, [2342.82] Jack: where the codes look like Jack and Tony trying to spell words. [2351.82] Jack: A dyslexic joke, everyone. [2354.82] Jack: I'm here only. [2355.82] Zoe: Yeah, the content stories, like I know a year ago, [2358.82] Zoe: I was just trying to figure out what kind of content I wanted to make. [2361.82] Zoe: And it's still kind of like that. [2363.82] Zoe: It's like, I mean, making the same live video over and over again [2366.82] Zoe: is kind of boring to me. [2370.82] Zoe: Like, I love flying, and I filmed way more content last year than I released. [2376.82] Zoe: But I think the big one is if I release any content, I want to look good. [2382.82] Zoe: I want to be like something that 10 years from now I can look back on [2386.82] Zoe: and be like, okay, that piece of content still holds up. [2391.82] Zoe: And yeah, I have fun with it. [2394.82] Zoe: Like, at the same time, like I'm creating art, [2396.82] Zoe: I want to have, you know, fun as an artist. [2400.82] Zoe: If I'm not enjoying the process and enjoying the art that I'm creating, [2404.82] Zoe: then I think the people watching it are going to enjoy it either. [2409.82] Zoe: Yeah, hopefully more comfy content because I really enjoy just taking people [2413.82] Zoe: to the field with me. [2414.82] Zoe: For the longest time, I was scared, like, how do I format a review video? [2418.82] Zoe: How do I, like, I get lost in like, how do I make this look the way I want it to look? [2425.82] Zoe: But realistically, just bringing people to the field [2429.82] Zoe: and giving you your thoughts off the cuff, like, that works really well. [2432.82] Zoe: People like that. [2435.82] Zoe: People like connecting with the pilot more than the machine. [2439.82] Zoe: Yeah. [2440.82] Zoe: And, you know, a lot of YouTube videos are just footage of the machine [2445.82] Zoe: with no connection to the pilot. [2448.82] Frank: I know Cerberus Felvitz in the, who I spotted in the chat earlier, [2453.82] Frank: that's a big thing of all his race streams is to try and engage people [2457.82] Frank: with the human beings that are there [2459.82] Frank: and make it a very much more personable thing. [2463.82] Frank: The wife test. [2465.82] Frank: To get it to pass the wife test, as he puts it. [2470.82] Frank: Yeah. [2473.82] Frank: Yeah, to make it engage with people who aren't necessarily on top [2477.82] Frank: of the very latest of the tech and that that isn't what they're there for, [2481.82] Frank: but that it's a place that you can hang out and engage with a community, [2486.82] Frank: which I think is important and increasingly so. [2491.82] Frank: Like you say, when the tech itself is no longer some untarnished toy, [2498.82] Frank: but it is something that has a whole other load of baggage along with it [2502.82] Frank: to make it more about the people and to make it so that, you know, [2507.82] Frank: it is a community where we're all engaging with it. [2511.82] Frank: I think that's an even more important thing to do. [2516.82] Jack: The thing that's made us stay with the hobby is the people in the hobby. [2524.82] Jack: You know, the ones who remain, you know, [2528.82] Jack: we're often looking back at all those great people that have come and gone, [2533.82] Jack: but, you know, we're the ones still here existing. [2538.82] Jack: We need to carry on. [2541.82] Jack: That's you, Tony. [2544.82] Jack: Yeah. [2545.82] Jack: Don't make me erect a statue. [2547.82] Jack: I said the word erect. [2549.82] Frank: Well done. [2550.82] Frank: And to that event of engaging people, because online is one thing, [2558.82] Frank: but offline and in-person events, you know, [2561.82] Frank: I think that's something that we missed out on for a few years. [2565.82] Frank: And I think we're sort of out of the habit of it as a community, [2569.82] Frank: out of the habit of meeting up and flying together in person. [2574.82] Frank: So on the LDO Discord now, as of this evening, [2577.82] Frank: there is an events and meetups channel. [2580.82] Frank: I've stuck the first one in there, [2583.82] Frank: which is the Wing Racing League UK, [2586.82] Frank: Wings Over Valley Flyers, 9th and 10th of August. [2590.82] Frank: That is in South Wales Valley Flyers. [2594.82] Frank: I've been there, I think, pretty much every year. [2598.82] Frank: They've done something there and it is a very welcoming event. [2602.82] Frank: Highly recommend it. [2603.82] Frank: You do not have to be an expert at anything. [2606.82] Frank: You do not have to be a great racer. [2608.82] Frank: You do not have to have a wing that entirely meets the spec [2611.82] Frank: or is entirely intact, as I have proven on many occasions. [2616.82] Frank: You can grab whatever you got, wander along and have a go. [2621.82] Frank: It is great fun, everyone will help. [2624.82] Frank: It is a very kind of old school, early days FPV kind of feel to it. [2630.82] Frank: So I highly recommend that event. [2633.82] Magdalena: Where is that event? [2634.82] Frank: South Wales. [2636.82] Frank: Somehow we have actually been able to fly without being washed out at Valley Flyers. [2643.82] Frank: There was another event in South Wales where literally the marquee [2648.82] Frank: was about to disappear into the distance because the weather was not the best. [2654.82] Frank: We had to run out in the middle of the night and pull it all down [2659.82] Frank: and try and sit on it and make it fly away. [2662.82] Frank: But the Valley Flyers one has always been pretty good. [2665.82] Frank: It's always been nice and warm. [2666.82] Frank: 9th and 10th of August. [2668.82] Frank: I highly recommend that one. [2670.82] Jack: MG, you can't go because they'll detain you. [2674.82] Jack: They'll put you on some sort of breeding programme because you're not covered in wool. [2682.82] Jack: All related to any of them. [2684.82] Frank: Sheep only, yeah, absolutely. [2687.82] Frank: Are there any live events anyone's aware of that's worth going to? [2695.82] Frank: I have. [2696.82] Zoe: I have. [2697.82] Zoe: Okay. [2699.82] Zoe: So, from COVID, there hasn't been a lot of freestyle events. [2704.82] Zoe: They've been slowly trickling back into the United States. [2708.82] Zoe: This year, I am really excited because Fly Tribe is hosting a freestyle series [2716.82] Zoe: with several different event organizers to have a championships for freestyle, [2721.82] Zoe: which really hasn't been done in a minute. [2726.82] Zoe: And kind of exciting. [2728.82] Zoe: So, they have an April. [2730.82] Zoe: There's going to be Sloss in Alabama, Birmingham, Alabama. [2734.82] Zoe: That's an old steel plant, I believe. [2739.82] Zoe: That's very cool. [2740.82] Zoe: Like, the location is amazing. [2742.82] Zoe: Then there's Cinco de Mayo. [2745.82] Zoe: That's going to be Quad de Mayo. [2747.82] Zoe: I believe it's the event name. [2749.82] Zoe: That's going to be taking place on Mare Island. [2752.82] Zoe: It's an old nuclear submarine facility. [2758.82] Zoe: That's going to be pretty dope. [2760.82] Zoe: They're also doing, you know, Castle Crash is coming up again this year. [2764.82] Zoe: Castle Crash 4D. [2766.82] Zoe: It's like the fourth Castle Crash of the series. [2772.82] Zoe: Let's see. [2773.82] Zoe: Rumble in the Jungle is making a comeback. [2775.82] Zoe: I don't know exactly where that's going to be, but that's going to be another one. [2780.82] Zoe: Gosh, I'm forgetting a West Coast stardown in the United States. [2783.82] Zoe: Another event that's going to be happening up in Oregon. [2786.82] Jack: I haven't been here for a whole minute. [2788.82] Jack: Bloody hell. [2789.82] Zoe: And then there's Minefields, Conheron's event. [2793.82] Zoe: That's more of a general drone gathering than just freestyle. [2798.82] Zoe: God, I feel bad. [2800.82] Zoe: There's at least two more that I'm forgetting about. [2802.82] Zoe: I'm so sorry to the organizers of these events. [2806.82] Zoe: I'm going to have a public calendar. [2813.82] Zoe: I'm trying to go to most of the fly-track events. [2816.82] Zoe: I want to be able to support them. [2819.82] Zoe: I have a long history in freestyle. [2821.82] Zoe: I love the freestyle community. [2823.82] Zoe: And seeing the freestyle community come together and come into its own again after COVID is important. [2830.82] Zoe: I think it's something that benefits the entire community. [2835.82] Zoe: I mean, most all pilots are freestylers. [2839.82] Zoe: The racers still tend to freestyle a little bit. [2842.82] Zoe: But there's such a huge freestyle community compared to just the racing community. [2847.82] Zoe: And I feel like a lot of these racing organizations have kind of forgotten about freestyle. [2855.82] Zoe: They've kind of forgotten about how amazing these competitions are. [2859.82] Zoe: Agreed. Agreed. [2861.82] Magdalena: I wish to go there, come on. [2863.82] Magdalena: Why so far away? [2865.82] Magdalena: That would be amazing. [2866.82] Magdalena: I was talking with a lot of people about this. [2869.82] Magdalena: It's always everything about the racing. [2871.82] Magdalena: And what about us people flying freestyle? [2874.82] Magdalena: That's going to be amazing, to be honest. [2877.82] Zoe: Yeah, I think they have 18,000 followers and prizes, too. [2882.82] Zoe: Wow. [2883.82] Zoe: There's big prize money online. [2885.82] Zoe: Fly Tribe is really trying to, I would say, own what I would consider the freestyle market. [2893.82] Zoe: Because no one else is really giving it the love it needs. [2896.82] Zoe: And Fly Tribe has Apache FPV, that banana, and several other amazing pilots, [2901.82] Zoe: part of their group, that are really pushing it. [2904.82] Zoe: I have been really honored to be a contributor to Fly Tribe for last year. [2908.82] Zoe: Fly Tribe was one of the first companies that reached out to me when I came back into FPV [2912.82] Zoe: and extended the hand of friendship and paid me for content. [2917.82] Zoe: Which, honestly, a lot of companies in this industry don't. [2922.82] Zoe: And it's really interesting coming into it, because there's been several, [2925.82] Zoe: I've taken paid sponsorships from other companies, not in the drone space, [2930.82] Zoe: that are willing to pay for content. [2933.82] Zoe: But drone companies in general are most energy. [2936.82] Zoe: It's kind of sad. [2937.82] Zoe: The FPV companies in general need to do better for pilots when it comes to supporting them. [2943.82] Zoe: Because about the pilots, you don't get content that sells products. [2947.82] Zoe: And at the end of the day, it's the pilots. [2949.82] Zoe: And this is why a lot of these older pilots left the scene. [2952.82] Zoe: They weren't being supported enough by their sponsors to be able to make the content that anyone loves. [2957.82] Zoe: And so they get trapped in this dichotomy of, I'm expected to be a sponsored pilot. [2963.82] Zoe: I'm expected to make this content. [2965.82] Zoe: I'm going to put my heart and soul into it. [2967.82] Zoe: Meanwhile, people that are making money off their backs aren't really supporting them. [2973.82] Zoe: So a lot of pilots get burned out. [2977.82] Frank: Grumpy RC Fire has just asked, [2980.82] Frank: MG FPV, is that a big glass, or have you got a tiny, tiny head? [2984.82] Magdalena: To be honest, the funny thing is, a lot of people told me I have a really tiny head, [2990.82] Magdalena: but the glass is, I don't know. [2992.82] Magdalena: I don't know. I don't have a tape measure here, so I cannot. [2994.82] Magdalena: Wait, maybe I can compare with my five-inch drone. [2998.82] Magdalena: Give me a second. [3000.82] Magdalena: Wait, maybe with a GoPro or something. [3002.82] Magdalena: No, I don't know. [3003.82] Jack: So he's got a lead-included Stanley Cup. [3008.82] Magdalena: Yeah, this glass is quite huge, to be honest. [3011.82] Magdalena: But yeah, I have a small head as well. [3015.82] Jack: That's quite funny. [3018.82] Frank: Zoe, for the Flytribe and the other events, [3023.82] Frank: is there anywhere particularly you would point people to go find more information, [3028.82] Frank: particularly about the free time events? [3031.82] Zoe: The Flytribe magazine's website, I think it's flytribemagazine.com. [3036.82] Zoe: Go check out their YouTube. They've announced all the locations. [3040.82] Zoe: Flytribe magazine has a physical print edition and a digital edition. [3044.82] Zoe: So if you don't want to get the print copy, you can still send it for the digital copy, [3049.82] Zoe: which the thing in the day and age of FPV, [3053.82] Zoe: where everything is digital-based and everything's online, [3056.82] Zoe: having an actual copy of a physical magazine seems really huge, [3061.82] Zoe: but this is one of the biggest things that I have to say. [3066.82] Zoe: If you have friends that don't know what FPV is, [3071.82] Zoe: or you have a hard time telling someone what FPV is, [3075.82] Zoe: you hand them a Flytribe magazine, [3078.82] Zoe: and it has pages upon pages upon pages of amazing content, visual content, [3085.82] Zoe: pictures from the community events. [3088.82] Zoe: It really is a moment of time in FPV, every magazine, [3093.82] Zoe: and you can show people that don't know anything about it. [3097.82] Zoe: They'll see it, and they'll understand why there's a community of people that love it so much. [3103.82] Zoe: It's such a great coffee table book to have around, to be able to offer to people. [3109.82] Zoe: I know it's me selling the magazine for them, but realistically, it's really cool. [3115.82] Zoe: Flytribe, more so than a lot of other companies out there, has supported the pilots, [3120.82] Zoe: always tries to. [3123.82] Zoe: Each magazine they put out, they put out because they want pilots to have that. [3128.82] Zoe: Every time it's like, are they going to put out another one? We don't know. [3133.82] Zoe: But they keep doing it because pilots want it. [3136.82] Zoe: I know Nick and everyone else involved really wants to have this moment captured for the community, [3143.82] Zoe: because there's not a lot of people doing that. [3146.82] Zoe: I wish we had this magazine eight years ago, [3149.82] Zoe: so we could actually capture some of the real history that was happening in FPV before it got forgotten. [3156.82] Zoe: To try to tell somebody about a lot of the stuff that's happened in the past, [3161.82] Zoe: kind of difficult, because we might have a couple neat little flight videos online about the event, [3167.82] Zoe: but there's a lot of history that's being lost right now. [3171.82] Zoe: Flytribe is one of the places that's actually trying to preserve FPV history in some way. [3179.82] Jack: Did you find, because you were on Flow State, [3185.82] Jack: did you find that was quite a good representation of the history in the hobby? [3191.82] Zoe: No, they missed a lot. They missed so much. [3196.82] Zoe: I was really disappointed, so I re-watched Fall State recently. [3201.82] Zoe: Y'all missed the whole thing of where this didn't just start recently. [3205.82] Zoe: There was a fight when they introduced Trappie in Team Black Sheep, for instance. [3209.82] Zoe: They completely glossed over all the history with Team Black Sheep coming into FPV, [3215.82] Zoe: and what started with the NTSB and the FAA's tri-rate against Trappie that created the whole backlash to begin with. [3224.82] Zoe: Trappie was mentioned, but none of that was really brought up in Flow State. [3230.82] Zoe: There were several other big key factors in FPV that were never brought up in that documentary. [3236.82] Zoe: It was a good overall info dump. [3240.82] Zoe: It was missing a lot of the real history in FPV that never got in there. [3245.82] Jack: FinalglideOz, he is the Dre of FPV. [3251.82] Jack: You motherfuckers have forgotten about Dre. [3256.82] Jack: God damn it. It was me watching it. [3260.82] Jack: It was well-produced, it was good, but honest to God, I was like... [3265.82] Jack: I thought I was in some sort of bizarre, different timeline. [3268.82] Jack: It's like watching the same bit in Private Ryan's, and it's like the British didn't exist. [3273.82] Jack: America won the war. [3276.82] Jack: It was just like... I don't know. [3281.82] Jack: It didn't help I was watching it with a Canadian, but I was just like... [3286.82] Jack: Oh my... I don't know. [3290.82] Zoe: The issue was that that documentary was created by somebody that was not an FPV pilot [3296.82] Zoe: and was not part of the history of FPV. [3299.82] Zoe: They came into it from an outside point of view, and Marjoleer brought in to... [3304.82] Zoe: Chad Kapper was working with them, I know, by heavily. [3309.82] Zoe: They worked with those resources, and it was an outside point of view digging in, [3314.82] Zoe: but what we really needed is someone that's in the FPV community making a documentary to the same degree. [3321.82] Zoe: I know I've been working on one for a while, but it's hard because I want to interview all these people. [3329.82] Zoe: There's certain pilots that aren't really around anymore, [3332.82] Zoe: and likewise to try to get high-quality interview footage of them, very difficult. [3337.82] Zoe: So, like, those things, that wasn't me. [3340.82] Zoe: I just want the entire picture of FPV. [3344.82] Jack: Maybe you could feed in as much AI as you can by, you know, a light. [3351.82] Jack: Just have one of those. [3353.82] Jack: Or just get a print out of, like, you know, Carlos, Charthou, [3359.82] Jack: and just cut the mouth out and then just wiggle it up and down. [3363.82] Jack: Or get some clay. [3365.82] Frank: Is this what we're going to be doing for the 10th anniversary then, Jack? [3368.82] Frank: Is it going to be stock puppets of, like, Sharpie? [3372.82] Jack: Don't tempt me. Do not tempt me. [3375.82] Jack: I have been thinking... [3381.82] Jack: Yeah, I don't know. [3383.82] Jack: Like, the fact is, they had pictures of Bani and just didn't go, [3387.82] Jack: by the way, he won the... [3392.82] Jack: Do you know what I mean? [3393.82] Jack: Because he's English, therefore, you know, he's part of the imperial war machine. [3401.82] Jack: Like, you know, he's got a lot... [3403.82] Jack: He might as well be Christopher Columbus, you know, like... [3407.82] Zoe: I mean, the thing is, I appreciate the efforts of creating a movie like that [3412.82] Zoe: and a documentary like that because we didn't really have one. [3415.82] Zoe: I just... I don't know. [3420.68] Jack: I feel like an advert for Roto-Rite at first, more than a documentary. [3427.68] Zoe: That's because it basically was. It's because it basically was. [3430.68] Zoe: I mean, in some ways. [3432.68] Zoe: They tapped into most of the Roto-Rite crew because you had, you know, [3435.68] Zoe: Chad Kapper and, you know, working on the back end a little bit, [3438.68] Zoe: trying to help this person develop out this film. [3442.68] Zoe: And there's nothing wrong with that. [3444.68] Zoe: And again, I think it's great that we, FlowState, is even the thing that exists. [3448.68] Zoe: I think it's, you know, it's not on them for making that movie. [3452.68] Zoe: It's also on us as a community for not documenting things better. [3458.68] Jack: Yeah. [3459.68] Jack: There's hours and hours of LDO. [3461.68] Jack: Clear your beats, love. [3463.68] Jack: You know, you're welcome to do that. [3465.68] Frank: Yeah. [3466.68] Frank: There's also, from my point of view, FlowState, I imagine, [3470.68] Frank: is going to be seen by a lot of FPVAs who already know a lot of it [3475.68] Frank: and isn't going to reach the wider world at large. [3479.68] Frank: Whereas, ShaunyBean in the chat says, [3482.68] Frank: your videos are one of the reasons they got into experiencing FPV. [3489.68] Frank: So, you know, your content clearly does reach a wider audience [3493.68] Frank: than just the in-crowd of FPV. [3496.68] Frank: So I think you can be proud of that. [3499.68] Jack: You were the in-crowd. [3501.68] Jack: Yeah. [3502.68] Jack: You were. [3503.68] Jack: You were. [3504.68] Jack: You were up there. [3505.68] Jack: Sorry. [3506.68] Jack: You were doing good. [3508.68] Zoe: No. [3509.68] Zoe: I don't know. [3510.68] Zoe: FPV is like, oh, there's another reason why I like the comfy content angle [3513.68] Zoe: or the cozy content thing is I feel like that applies to more people [3516.68] Zoe: than those that are just in FPV. [3520.68] Zoe: And trying to make that style of content going forward, [3525.68] Zoe: I think, will hopefully bring more people into it. [3529.68] Zoe: But also, just showing that FPV doesn't have to be all hyper-focused, [3536.68] Zoe: like, ah, little riotish or... [3539.68] Jack: Ripping testicles. [3541.68] Jack: Right? [3542.68] Zoe: Yeah. [3543.68] Zoe: It can be so much more than that. [3545.68] Zoe: And I am also guilty of spreading that kind of feeling around [3551.68] Zoe: because I try to be more punky because of that kind of feel. [3557.68] Zoe: Like, you kind of are a punk if you fly FPV. [3559.68] Zoe: Like, most of the time, you're going into abandoned locations. [3562.68] Zoe: You may or may not be trespassing. [3564.68] Zoe: Like, that just comes with the territory of FPV as well as being a punk. [3569.68] Zoe: And I think that's why it's appealed to a lot of these, like, skateboarder-esque, [3573.68] Zoe: you know, punk people. [3575.68] Zoe: Like, flying FPV is kind of punk. [3581.68] Zoe: But it also can apply and be open to more than just the punks out there. [3586.68] Zoe: Like, it doesn't have to be like, [3588.68] Zoe: oh, yeah, look at me breaking the laws. [3590.68] Zoe: I fly my little toy around this yard. [3597.68] Zoe: We don't have to go to that style of content. [3599.68] Zoe: We can still have other things. [3604.68] Zoe: So, yeah, I don't know. [3605.68] Zoe: I'm going to try to do my part going forward [3608.68] Zoe: and, like, make content that people enjoy [3611.68] Zoe: and that brings more people in the hobby. [3613.68] Zoe: Shows it in a better light. [3616.68] Jack: I'll tell you what. [3617.68] Jack: So, you should knit slash crochet little things to go over the motor things. [3625.68] Jack: That would be super cozy. [3628.68] Jack: And be just totally toyed up, like, and be like... [3633.68] Zoe: Oh, and then there's a battery on there. [3635.68] Zoe: If I can get some battery on this. [3638.68] Jack: Yeah. [3639.68] Jack: And then, like, make a little flower crown [3641.68] Jack: that goes around, like, a little daisy crown [3643.68] Jack: that goes around the lens of your GoPro. [3647.68] Jack: And you just can't see what's going on. [3649.68] Jack: It's like, oh, my God. [3651.68] Jack: Just totally light little candles [3654.68] Jack: and, like, have a little zen bowl of you arming. [3658.68] Jack: You know? [3660.68] Zoe: How about I make it cozy, but I don't make a pant thing? [3665.68] Jack: I don't know, man. [3666.68] Jack: You don't have to do any of these. [3668.68] Jack: You're... Yeah. [3670.68] Zoe: I'm moving forward to the... [3674.68] Frank: Yeah, I'm looking forward to more of this comfy, [3677.68] Frank: cozy, relaxed, chill, enjoying of FPV, [3682.68] Frank: sharing of FPV and the state of minds that it provides. [3688.68] Frank: I'm looking forward to more coastal sea, [3692.68] Frank: paradise-like, long, sinny runs as well from MG. [3697.68] Frank: So, thank you both for coming on tonight.
