[0.0] Jack: Hello, and you're listening to Let's Drone Out, a special thank you to our lovely patrons
[6.28] Jack: that help donate so that we can pay the editor to remove the swear words and silly things
[11.36] Jack: we say.
[13.0] Jack: Massive thank you to…
[14.4] Jack: Carlos Campos!
[16.0] Jack: Art Faulkner.
[17.84] Frank: Sam Dahmer.
[19.68] Frank: On with the show.
[20.68] Koel: Let's drone out now.
[51.89] Jack: Hello, and you're listening to Let's Drone Out.
[55.79] Jack: We have no Frank.
[56.79] Jack: Frank is a badness.
[58.79] Stephen: He is.
[59.79] Stephen: So all pretense of organisation has left us.
[62.11] Jack: Guzzling Polish sausage left, right and centre.
[67.47] Stephen: That's just according to his Instagram posts.
[70.95] Jack: We are joined by everyone's favourite curry kitten, Tricopter Dabbie.
[76.03] Jack: Hello!
[77.19] Jack: The piepiper of unwanted children, Stephen.
[81.51] Stephen: Hello.
[83.11] Stephen: I don't fly, but I do automate my home.
[85.55] Jack: Yep.
[86.55] Jack: You're having woes of just you want to be left alone in a park and fly a little mini
[94.19] Jack: quad.
[95.19] Stephen: Absolutely awful.
[96.19] Stephen: Like I'll go over to the other side of the park and think I'll fly like this tiny quad
[100.15] Stephen: that should be invisible by a two and a half inch thing that's like a 3S model.
[105.23] Stephen: It's just tiny.
[107.55] Stephen: And yeah, from like 200 metres away, these eagle eyed children who are like eight years
[112.91] Stephen: old can spot it's a quad and they all come running over and there's like 10 or 12 of
[116.95] Stephen: them at a time going, can I have a go?
[118.31] Stephen: Can I have a go?
[119.31] Stephen: Can I have a go?
[120.31] Stephen: I can't even land it without like, you know, dinging one of these irritating little people.
[125.55] Stephen: And so I have to like calmly and explain to them what it is and give them this whole like
[129.87] Stephen: spiel.
[130.87] Stephen: To be fair, I have down now.
[132.87] Stephen: So I give them the spiel, explain that I built it and how it works and do it as quickly as
[136.59] Stephen: possible and then explains to them that, you know, actually I'd quite like to land it and
[140.99] Stephen: if I could please have some space and please step away.
[143.67] Stephen: Thank you very much.
[144.67] Stephen: Okay.
[145.67] Stephen: No, it's actually quite difficult to fly, but ask your parents about it.
[148.27] Stephen: Tell them that you want an FPV drone and I'm sure they'll be happy to get you on and blah,
[151.99] Stephen: blah, blah.
[152.99] Stephen: Tell the parents to go look on Banggood and just, you know, give their parents all the
[156.19] Stephen: pain so that I don't have to deal with it because they're the parents.
[160.59] Stephen: So yeah, and just trying to land it as safely as possible.
[162.99] Stephen: Most of the time they're good enough and once they get the whole spiel and I'm not angry
[166.79] Stephen: or irate, they'll like back off and let me land it.
[169.55] Stephen: But it's that moment of terror when you're like busy doing a few acro flips and rolls
[174.35] Stephen: thinking you're all alone in the world and you see like this tiny throng of lights like
[180.55] Stephen: a zombie invasion, except they're like eight or 10 year old sprinting across the field
[184.83] Stephen: waving their arms in the air and yeah, that's not a fun bit much.
[191.51] Jack: We're also joined by my poor good friend who has berated me for not using a proper
[199.43] Jack: GoPro mount, followed by arguments of orientation by GPS only.
[206.75] Jack: I do apologize.
[208.23] Jack: I have good sides.
[209.55] Jack: I have a lot of bad sides.
[211.95] Jack: Hello.
[212.95] Jack: Howdy.
[213.95] Jack: It's cold.
[216.99] Jack: It's Koala Feve, which I have to get used to calling you soon.
[222.35] Jack: That's okay.
[223.35] Jack: Yes.
[224.35] Jack: And I am bright until I fly the Shugon enthusiast.
[229.87] Jack: Would you like some updates on how that's going?
[236.47] Koel: Is yes the right answer?
[237.87] Curry: Vintage tricopter world.
[240.19] Curry: I think I may have got some updates earlier.
[242.03] Stephen: It's making me sort of smile.
[245.63] Stephen: So the string and doping and so forth, how's all that going?
[249.63] Stephen: Do you think you'll be able to cross the channel if you get enough height in anything?
[252.99] Jack: No, it's still pretty much in a box.
[255.47] Jack: I now own the gimbal, but I don't own the correct quad.
[261.83] Jack: They sent me a fiberglass one V1 instead of V2.
[267.67] Jack: So I've got a gimbal, but I haven't got the correct.
[273.35] Stephen: For listeners and indeed hosts who may have less than perfect memory, Jack, what are you
[278.59] Stephen: trying to construct here?
[280.99] Jack: Something from the past.
[281.99] Jack: I'm trying to bring a Shugon, which is-
[286.15] Stephen: I'll now expand on that because that sounds like maybe some kind of Japanese gadget from
[291.55] Stephen: the early 90s.
[293.39] Curry: It's an amazing quad that folds, that'd be only this big.
[296.59] Koel: Yeah, let's show the people.
[298.31] Koel: We've got to show the people.
[299.31] Koel: Tell and tell.
[300.31] Koel: I'll show.
[301.31] Stephen: I'll show the people on the audio podcast.
[302.31] Stephen: It's either an amazing quad that folds or it's a raspberry flavored wafer.
[306.19] Jack: Oh, sorry.
[308.19] Jack: Yeah, that is it.
[310.43] Jack: Has a gimbal.
[311.43] Jack: It's got arms that twist and-
[314.83] Stephen: It says it's Christ resistant arm as well.
[317.23] Jack: I like to test that.
[318.23] Jack: Yeah.
[319.23] Koel: That's cold news.
[320.23] Koel: By the time Jack gets done with it, it will be called a Shugon.
[323.23] Jack: Yeah, I know.
[325.03] Jack: I'm not going to put a Naza in it.
[328.71] Stephen: Those look like the old flame wheel arms.
[330.63] Stephen: Is that the kind of shtick we're talking about here?
[332.63] Jack: Yeah, it's kind of that era.
[335.47] Jack: They've got that one.
[336.47] Jack: Why are you going to put that Naza in Jack?
[337.47] Jack: Because that would be authentic.
[338.63] Jack: No, never.
[339.63] Jack: How many reasons do we want?
[342.35] Jack: But there it is.
[343.35] Jack: What's going on with it then?
[344.35] Jack: It's very-
[345.35] Jack: It can go very fast.
[346.35] Jack: Oh, it folds in the middle of the arms, not even just-
[348.19] Koel: That fold.
[349.19] Jack: Yeah.
[350.19] Jack: Oh, you're up for the trouble.
[351.19] Koel: So they sent you the wrong one, Jack?
[353.51] Jack: Yeah.
[354.99] Jack: So what's going on with that?
[355.99] Jack: I've got to wait for a new one.
[360.07] Jack: So they sent you a worse model than the original one?
[364.87] Jack: Yeah.
[365.87] Jack: So yeah, it's great fun, really.
[368.71] Jack: It's highly tedious.
[369.71] Jack: What are you going to do with it?
[371.71] Jack: What are you going to do?
[372.71] Jack: I'm going to try and not put a Naza in it and then try and figure out the pin outs and
[377.27] Jack: stuff.
[379.03] Jack: Run.
[380.03] Jack: Maybe I might run the EZ LSD, depending on whether I can get-
[386.19] Jack: I don't know.
[388.35] Jack: I might not.
[389.35] Stephen: So I'm looking at four on the jack, because you're going to build something that's going
[393.35] Stephen: to be superior to a modern five-inch FPV quadcopter in almost every way.
[399.67] Stephen: What are you going to do with it once you've built that?
[401.51] Stephen: Wait a minute.
[402.75] Curry: If he's going to put EZ LSD on it, then he has to run EZ UHF.
[408.43] Curry: It must be in the rule book.
[409.95] Jack: No, unless you're buying it.
[412.83] Stephen: The words dragon link heading towards this conversation.
[415.59] Jack: No, definitely not.
[416.99] Jack: I've got a dragon link.
[419.91] Jack: I'm going to borrow it.
[421.79] Jack: No, because it involves wrapping every cable with tin foil.
[426.43] Jack: Well, you're going to be putting plenty around your hands.
[429.71] Curry: And pinners.
[430.71] Curry: You move your controller, all flicking your fingers around.
[433.83] Jack: Oh, it's cool.
[434.83] Jack: It's the worst.
[435.83] Jack: Yeah, it's going to basically be a massive oversized squad with nothing in it.
[441.95] Jack: And I'm just going to gimbal.
[443.95] Stephen: Are we talking 2S or are you going to really stop and go 3S?
[449.39] Stephen: That gimbal, that's going to be built for the GoPro 2, isn't it?
[454.47] Koel: Jack apparently has a four still.
[455.87] Koel: I know he used to.
[457.39] Koel: I'll get a four.
[459.39] Koel: He's going to go out of his way to get a four for this.
[463.35] Koel: That will be the FPV cam as well, though, as the HD cam or whatever.
[466.99] Stephen: Now, are you going to, when you apply this, are you going to dress period as well?
[470.63] Stephen: Are you going to go back to like 2013, going to go back and find the band t-shirts and
[476.15] Stephen: stuff you're wearing?
[477.15] Jack: Yes, we need the 2013 Jack in full attire.
[479.87] Jack: You have to buy like a flight test shirt.
[484.31] Stephen: Yeah.
[485.31] Stephen: Flight test shirt.
[486.31] Stephen: Original.
[487.31] Stephen: Road to Riot.
[489.23] Koel: Road to Riot didn't exist back then.
[491.75] Koel: 2013.
[492.75] Koel: Jack wasn't into drones back then, was he?
[494.51] Curry: He could be my master, but I should have a week and we can have like an old quad-off.
[499.23] Curry: An old hack and old cameras on gimbals and my one will have an answer in it.
[506.47] Stephen: And you've got to see who can record the smoothest footage of a lap round a field, all right?
[513.71] Stephen: And then be absolutely trounced by someone who just rocks up with a GoPro on a regular
[518.91] Stephen: five-inch quad.
[519.99] Curry: And I'd be doing it properly because my GoPro, although mine was set up for a GoPro 4, which
[526.79] Curry: is the sh**iest GoPro I've ever had.
[529.07] Curry: I think that's the reason isn't that?
[531.07] Stephen: Go Pro 4, isn't that a bit too, slightly too recent?
[534.79] Stephen: I think you probably want to go back a bit further than a GoPro 4, don't you?
[538.47] Curry: No, because I had that hooked up to it.
[542.31] Curry: I think mine was about, mine was still about 10 years ago, but it existed and I had the
[548.67] Curry: little USB interface that I flew through that camera as well as recorded on it.
[554.95] Curry: That's how hardcore I am, so Jack has to do it that way.
[558.63] Jack: Yeah, I've got the cable.
[559.63] Curry: It's fine, unless you want to look at the ground and the sun's out, in which case it's
[563.11] Curry: just what's that backed up.
[564.11] Curry: It's probably the ground.
[565.11] Jack: Dynamic range.
[566.11] Jack: Yeah.
[567.11] Jack: Yeah.
[568.11] Jack: It's going to be interesting and I'm going to be like, Cole, can you, uh, you tune this
[572.19] Stephen: camera for me, this is going to be like classic car rallies in a few years' time.
[578.63] Stephen: You watch it.
[579.63] Stephen: Those old boys who are out there polishing their chrome and stuff, that's going to be
[583.67] Stephen: you.
[584.67] Curry: We'll be at the air shows, instead of these sandal guys flying these like World War II
[591.47] Curry: scale models, they'll be like, now we've got something special.
[593.91] Curry: We've got an F-150 with an original NASA in it.
[596.91] Curry: Let's see if it turns out.
[597.91] Curry: These guys with hearing aids.
[598.91] Stephen: They can fly it with old flight test shirts shouting at each other really loudly, complaining
[605.87] Stephen: about their red bottom motors.
[607.39] Jack: Yeah.
[608.39] Jack: Red bottom.
[609.39] UNKNOWN: Yeah.
[610.39] Jack: They had to firm where the, um, like, block the video out of the later ones.
[617.23] Jack: I know.
[618.23] Jack: What?
[619.23] Jack: Why?
[620.23] Koel: Oh, the newer.
[621.23] Koel: Yeah.
[622.23] Curry: Because GoPro wanted to sell you their drone, which was such a massive success.
[628.55] Curry: That's why everyone's using GoPro drones to this day, Curry.
[632.39] Curry: Exactly.
[633.63] Koel: It's funny how it was called the Karma as well, eh?
[636.75] Koel: Oh God.
[637.75] Koel: It's irony.
[638.75] Curry: Ironing out of 10.
[639.75] Jack: Yeah.
[640.75] Jack: People who bought those had to then return them and then they gave them a GoPro Hero
[645.67] Jack: 5 as compensation for free.
[648.75] Koel: Yeah.
[649.75] Koel: Oh, we're sorry that this drone did not.
[651.71] Koel: Folds out the sky and they killed you.
[653.59] Stephen: Sorry that we suck.
[655.07] Koel: Yeah.
[657.86] Koel: Yeah.
[658.86] Koel: That's, that's interesting.
[660.38] Koel: I'm surprised that they would have like brick or at least taken away that well, I guess
[664.7] Koel: I shouldn't be surprised.
[666.26] Koel: They did take away features on the, on the hero five session, uh, through firmware updates
[670.74] Koel: too.
[671.74] Stephen: Yeah.
[672.74] Jack: Yeah.
[673.74] Stephen: That there's some attempts at legislation to try and stamp out that because it's one
[678.06] Stephen: of the most evil practices in modern consumer goods.
[682.34] Stephen: The ability to pay for something and then watch something, which is revolutionary that
[686.62] Stephen: everyone wants.
[687.62] Stephen: And then the company decides that actually the best way to monetize that is to cut the
[692.46] Stephen: product range in half and limit that feature to their premium tier products.
[697.58] Stephen: And they can, you know, remove it by software update from a bunch of products and they're
[701.78] Stephen: making the extra.
[703.38] Stephen: And it's the most venomous and disgusting business practice.
[707.02] Stephen: Well it happened with the, um, or these days they turned into a subscription in many ways.
[712.58] Stephen: So you see instead of it just being a built-in feature, you're now on the hook for X amount
[717.42] Stephen: a month to go and use that.
[719.26] Koel: Yeah.
[720.26] Koel: The DJI, um, mini two, it was like, okay, they discontinued the mini two and they came
[726.3] Koel: out with like the mini two SE, which was the mini two, but it only shot in like two K instead
[732.62] Koel: of four K now.
[734.1] Koel: Um, but it was a slightly cheaper price point.
[737.66] Koel: Uh, maybe it didn't have the led or something.
[740.66] Koel: And then Tim with the mini three pro came out.
[744.02] Koel: Well, mini four pro was coming out, but they discontinued mini three pro and they gave
[748.98] Koel: you the mini three, which is just a dumbed down version of the mini.
[752.54] Stephen: Caroline Tyler beat me to it.
[754.1] Stephen: BMW did this with their heated seats.
[755.98] Stephen: Like you literally have a subscription for heated seats.
[759.58] Stephen: Why do you have a subscription of the heating seats changing every month?
[762.34] Stephen: Of course they're not, but they can make you pay.
[764.86] Stephen: So they do.
[765.86] Koel: Yeah.
[766.86] Koel: Louis Rossman.
[767.86] Koel: That's a good guy to, if you want to hear about all this crap and how much he gets annoyed
[770.5] Koel: by this stuff.
[771.5] Koel: Yeah.
[772.5] Koel: He's, he talks about that a lot.
[773.5] Koel: Yeah.
[774.5] Koel: Stuck behind paywalls.
[775.5] Stephen: Disgusting.
[776.5] Curry: Absolutely disgusting.
[777.5] Curry: And there's no excuse for it.
[778.5] Curry: You bought a license.
[779.5] Curry: Yeah.
[780.5] Curry: Yeah.
[781.5] Koel: Yeah.
[782.5] Koel: My car actually is like that.
[783.82] Koel: So I've got a remote starter built into my car.
[786.74] Koel: I can only access it if I pay monthly for the app and the only way that I can see my
[793.1] Koel: TPMS tire pressure sensor values is through the app that I have to pay the subscription
[798.54] Koel: for.
[799.54] Koel: Unless I go out with a physical gauge and put it on the thing.
[801.46] Stephen: I can't go to like, it's absolutely disgusting.
[804.7] Stephen: Yeah.
[805.7] Stephen: Um, yeah, especially if features like that where ostensibly other than providing a good
[810.54] Stephen: level of security for their app, which is table stakes.
[814.34] Stephen: If that you are paying nothing, there's no value that you obtain per month other than
[821.82] Stephen: being able to do something that should be trivial to do.
[824.62] Stephen: And they could limit it so that you walk up to the car and you're within range of
[828.86] Stephen: the car and you provide a high level of security.
[832.26] Stephen: Your phone has a certificate, the car has a certificate.
[834.78] Stephen: There's no risk of anyone, you know, doing anything short, short of beating you around
[838.62] Stephen: the head with a pipe and taking a phone, which they could just as well take your car keys
[841.94] Stephen: at that point.
[843.26] Stephen: There's no reason that that has to be a subscription service other than they've managed to get
[846.94] Stephen: in the middle between you and your car and find a way to make you pay, you know, making
[852.62] Stephen: a cloud service, even though realistically you're checking your tire pressure, you're
[856.42] Stephen: probably quite near the car at that point.
[859.78] Stephen: Here's Jack Scratch.
[860.78] Jack: Uh oh.
[861.78] Jack: Jack weren't having a good day.
[864.62] Jack: Oh man.
[865.9] Jack: Is that just the lens?
[866.9] Stephen: Yeah.
[867.9] Jack: Or the whole thing?
[868.9] Jack: Yeah.
[869.9] Jack: But it turns out they're really expensive.
[870.9] Jack: Yeah.
[871.9] Jack: It turns out they're really expensive nowadays.
[874.14] Jack: Um, so.
[875.54] Stephen: Can you just heat gun the, heat gun the glass off and pop an aftermarket on?
[881.18] Koel: Yeah.
[882.74] Stephen: Yeah.
[883.74] Stephen: Yeah.
[884.74] Stephen: It might be.
[885.74] Stephen: So these people that do off to market plus that one, you can, well, you can replace the
[890.06] Koel: whole like I actually have on here, you just take those screws off and you can just replace
[893.98] Koel: the whole thing.
[894.98] Koel: I mean, maybe you can find just the glass and like, oh, you're going to unscrew the
[898.86] Stephen: JST and knocked off the shunt resistor as that as well.
[902.02] Stephen: Yeah.
[903.02] Stephen: So current, current meters F bar.
[904.94] Stephen: It was a TVS diode.
[907.26] Jack: Yeah.
[908.26] Jack: Diode.
[909.26] Jack: Oh, it was a TVS.
[910.26] Jack: Yeah.
[911.58] Jack: Um, yeah, it turns out I was flying this quad without any nuts on or phone that I crashed
[917.7] Stephen: so hard that all four of them.
[920.38] Stephen: You lost all four.
[921.38] Stephen: Yeah.
[922.38] Stephen: I don't think that's possible.
[924.38] Stephen: No.
[925.38] Stephen: To be fair, you get a fair amount of friction with the gummies.
[927.78] Stephen: Yeah.
[928.78] Stephen: Yeah.
[929.78] Stephen: Oh, you redid the JST.
[931.34] Stephen: You hero.
[932.34] Stephen: Yeah.
[933.34] Koel: In the day or two.
[934.34] Stephen: It looks like stuff.
[935.34] Stephen: Yeah.
[936.34] Stephen: Nevermind that.
[937.34] Stephen: That JST.
[938.34] Stephen: That's fiddly little.
[939.34] Stephen: Yeah.
[940.42] Jack: It does feel like I was coaxing it back to life.
[946.9] Jack: It was like, it was like I had to say nice things about it and it were like each step
[952.3] Jack: things wouldn't work and then they would work and then slowly.
[956.1] Jack: Yeah.
[957.1] Jack: Um, I'm a motor down.
[958.86] Jack: Uh, I've, I've.
[960.58] Stephen: What one of the motor outputs is dead or?
[962.5] Jack: No, no.
[963.5] Jack: I've really dented a motor and, um, it, it wasn't, uh, Dan turned to me and said, like,
[972.86] Jack: you caused all that damage.
[974.5] Jack: You weren't even going that fast.
[976.78] Jack: And I was like, yep.
[978.22] Jack: It was one of the slowest into the, the wall angle.
[982.78] Jack: Wait, we gotta see the footage now, man.
[985.3] Jack: What the hell did you do?
[987.58] Jack: I didn't turn my GoPro on.
[990.18] Jack: DVO.
[991.18] Koel: DVO.
[992.66] Koel: Come on.
[993.66] Koel: Just do it.
[994.66] Stephen: Everyone knows you got DVR, mate.
[995.66] Stephen: You can't.
[996.66] Stephen: Yeah.
[997.66] Stephen: You can't hide.
[998.66] Stephen: No, you run, but you can see your eyes with the, you know, you've got that.
[1001.5] Jack: Hopefully.
[1002.5] Jack: Hopefully.
[1003.5] Jack: I've got a habit of like not switching it on if it, um, I, I had a bit of a, you know,
[1009.9] Koel: you also have a habit of pressing record for three minutes and to say your quads sitting
[1013.46] Koel: on the ground before you actually take off, I just got to sit there and take that.
[1016.82] Jack: He's valid.
[1017.82] Koel: He sends me footage, Jack sends me footage to, to adjust and there's like three minutes
[1025.06] Koel: of nothing at the beginning.
[1026.74] Koel: And then there's like 17 minutes of nothing at the end.
[1029.06] Jack: Jessica was like, yeah, don't upload that.
[1031.86] Jack: Oh really?
[1032.86] Jack: Yeah.
[1033.86] Jack: Sorry.
[1034.86] Jack: Nah.
[1035.86] Jack: That's got, that's completely wasted your time.
[1036.86] Jack: I'm sorry.
[1037.86] Koel: That's okay.
[1038.86] Koel: I enjoyed looking at it the 30 seconds out of 17 minutes of it.
[1044.3] Koel: That was usable.
[1045.3] Jack: Well, not even that.
[1046.3] Jack: He had to fight for that.
[1047.3] Jack: I love you, Jack.
[1048.3] Jack: He had to fight.
[1049.3] Jack: I did.
[1050.3] Jack: I did.
[1051.3] Jack: I, I'm now a, a session mount person.
[1054.3] UNKNOWN: Oh yeah.
[1055.3] Jack: I'm not too sure about that.
[1057.3] Jack: Carry on, Cole.
[1058.3] Koel: I, I basically, I, I peered pressure Jack into not using a hard TPU mount, uh, wedge
[1066.46] Koel: to hold a session because he's getting a contained vibrations through his quad while he's flying.
[1071.62] Koel: And I peer pressured him into actually 3d print an actual 3d print for his GoPro.
[1077.22] Koel: Yeah.
[1078.22] Stephen: He was very reluctant.
[1079.72] Stephen: He has a 3d printer.
[1080.72] Curry: I mean, this is why Jack said to me earlier today, if you have any tips on TPU printing
[1086.02] Stephen: and I said, my one just prints, just go really slow, really down slow and bump, bump the heat
[1095.58] Stephen: on the first layer.
[1096.66] Stephen: So it sticks onto the bed nicely.
[1098.5] Stephen: That's it.
[1099.5] Curry: Yeah.
[1100.5] Curry: It's very sticky.
[1101.5] Curry: You don't really have a decent problems on TPU.
[1103.78] Jack: It's just like, I don't, I don't know if I don't even have DVR or I swear to God.
[1110.14] Stephen: The one thing I'd say for TPU, smaller printers rock because like I'm, everyone was saying,
[1116.06] Stephen: our TPU can't do it.
[1117.06] Stephen: Can't do it.
[1118.06] Stephen: I had like a weird dinky printer with three arms that was like, uh, well, it was a circular
[1125.74] Stephen: print area instead of a, and then that thing, it printed.
[1130.26] Stephen: The wires that moved the thing around.
[1133.94] Stephen: But anyway, it's got three arms.
[1135.26] Stephen: So there's like a print head has three arms.
[1137.94] Stephen: So it's yeah, Delta.
[1139.66] Stephen: And then I moved to the little vore on mini and both of those are like, if I really crank
[1144.38] Stephen: it, it'll do like 10 centimeters a second TPU.
[1148.5] Stephen: It's quite happy doing like seven.
[1151.46] Stephen: And um, yeah, the big ones seem to have issues or, uh, yeah, not point one or whatever.
[1158.14] Stephen: Yeah.
[1159.14] Jack: It's just over there.
[1160.42] Jack: I love, I'm still trying to build my voron.
[1164.54] Stephen: There it is.
[1165.7] Stephen: It's an absolute beast for TPU.
[1168.06] Stephen: Just cranks it out.
[1169.98] Koel: I had been looking at the A1 mini and if I'm, if I'm willing to do the rabbit hole of 3d printing, I want the smallest and most, I can throw it in the closet sort of scenario.
[1186.66] Stephen: Um, if you're, if you're doing drone stuff, there's just no reason because you can't print drone like arms and stuff.
[1193.26] Stephen: It's just a hiding to nothing.
[1194.58] Stephen: So all you're going to be doing is you get a 10 amounts, camera mount, camera mounts, the biggest thing you're going to be doing.
[1199.9] Stephen: And then like arm guards, motor guards, and those are all tiny pieces.
[1203.78] Stephen: So you need at most like a 10 centimeter by 10 centimeter build area that will do you GoPro amount.
[1209.86] Stephen: That's the biggest thing you've got to do.
[1211.58] Stephen: Everything above that, you're just like introducing extra vibration modes into the structure so that when your head, your print head moves fast, the whole printer is more likely to start vibrating.
[1222.98] Stephen: So you keep it small and then everything's like locked in and it doesn't ring and you get better print quality on the small, small prints when you're going fast.
[1232.86] Koel: Yeah, it's well, the one thing I noticed is that the, uh, with the A1 mini 3d printer, it's pretty cheap.
[1239.66] Koel: It's like $250 Canadian.
[1241.62] Koel: But then if you want to get the, the little combo thing that comes with the AMS light, which I guess is probably like the, the little holder for the filaments, it's like 450 bucks, but surely there's a work around where you can just get the cheapo one.
[1260.86] Stephen: And then, wow, Karen, you've put an impressively long link in the chat, but I feel compelled to click on it because I work in it.
[1269.86] Stephen: No sense of security.
[1272.1] Stephen: See what that is.
[1273.22] Stephen: External content.
[1274.18] Stephen: Duck, duck, duck.
[1274.54] Stephen: Oh, okay.
[1276.7] Stephen: Top, the girl with the top, you say?
[1281.62] Jack: For some reason, all my videos are like five seconds long, except one of them, one of them recorded.
[1287.9] Jack: All right.
[1288.82] Stephen: Oh, that's pretty neat.
[1289.9] Stephen: This must be Caroline Tyler's tiny cheap printer.
[1293.34] Jack: Yeah.
[1294.3] Jack: No, um, DVR and my goggles for some reason.
[1298.34] Jack: I just don't, was it, was it, was it, was the SD card filling up?
[1303.7] Jack: Don't think so.
[1304.26] Jack: No, it's pretty empty.
[1307.58] Stephen: So if I can make a call, like if you don't have a 3d printer, uh, in current year, like just follow Caroline's advice, I think she even reviewed a couple and just the stuff that's under a hundred local currency units and you can get next day delivery on Amazon.
[1324.1] Stephen: And we're not talking about a three month boat from China.
[1326.9] Stephen: You can find something next day for under a hundred of whatever your units are and it it'll probably do TPU.
[1333.5] Stephen: And if it doesn't try printing a little bit slower and yeah, then you you've got your antenna mounts, forget about, you know, waiting two weeks to get an antenna mount or a camera mount and just cook it up.
[1345.9] Stephen: And it will be there the next day at the very latest.
[1350.18] Jack: Yeah.
[1350.9] Jack: I'm also very impressed with Caroline's, um, uh, she's a food dehydrator in order to, uh, dry her filament.
[1361.42] Jack: And I'm like, ah, really?
[1363.34] Jack: It's pretty, that's got to be, also, I've got a filament dryer as well.
[1370.62] Stephen: There's one there again, like they're not expensive items.
[1374.34] Stephen: You can do a food dehydrator.
[1375.82] Stephen: And I think it works if you're in certain places where food dehydrators are plentiful.
[1381.02] Stephen: But when I looked that was actually like the same price as buying a food dehydrator or within a couple of quid of it.
[1387.5] Stephen: So I just got one of those and it's got like epigramble temperature thing on the side and you dial in temperature and a time.
[1394.14] Stephen: And it's got 12 volt barrel jack on the other side and, you know, just let it dry for a while.
[1399.54] Stephen: Um, TPU does suck up moisture and if you spot the surface looking all rough or it, or you can hear a popping noise,
[1407.98] Stephen: that's a dead giveaway when it's printing and it's going pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, that's moisture bursting out the filament.
[1413.82] Stephen: If you, if you get that, just, you know, let it dry for a while.
[1417.66] Stephen: You can dry it in the oven, but obviously that's a bit of a risk because your oven does go high enough to completely destroy your spool.
[1423.46] Stephen: But if you get a dehydrator or one of those puppies, it's going to, it's not a fast process,
[1428.78] Stephen: but if you give it at least a two hour head start before you start printing, it'll, it'll get the worst of it off.
[1434.9] Stephen: Or if you're really determined, you can give it like a six hour blast and completely, you know, dry it out.
[1439.98] Stephen: And it does a lot for print quality as well as, um, avoiding jamming because the print head, if it has too much moisture in it,
[1447.34] Stephen: it's actually going to change the diameter of the filament quite a lot.
[1451.1] Stephen: And that'll cause the very bendy TPU filament to be even more prone to jamming than it already is.
[1457.42] Jack: So, yeah, I did not know that.
[1461.62] Stephen: Yeah.
[1465.78] Stephen: I learnt all these things because I was like, here with the popping noises and some of my prints were like really rough.
[1470.74] Stephen: And yeah, I'm well, an error.
[1472.82] Stephen: I figured it out of all run.
[1477.02] Stephen: Yeah, it's cute.
[1477.54] Stephen: Yeah, this is a fail.
[1478.98] Stephen: I can't claim to build it fail safe, built it, but it's an absolute little beast.
[1483.94] Curry: Lovely.
[1484.26] Curry: It's got a cool name.
[1485.42] Stephen: Yeah.
[1486.18] Stephen: Yeah.
[1486.3] Stephen: It does have a cool name.
[1487.54] Stephen: It is the 3d printer that you can build with a 3d printer.
[1490.74] Stephen: Yeah.
[1490.98] Curry: So it sounds like a character from blade seven.
[1494.3] Curry: I think I know one old enough text to comment on that.
[1497.26] Stephen: It's got like a raspberry pie built in the back and runs moon rake or everything.
[1502.5] Koel: It almost sounds like, uh, like, uh, like a location or like a person in like Lord of the rings or something.
[1511.94] Stephen: Oh, and just because it's self built, doesn't mean you like, can't have an app to control it.
[1515.62] Stephen: It's, it's got a full on phone app with to do remote moon raker and things.
[1520.38] Stephen: And, you know, yeah, it looks great.
[1522.5] Jack: I did not know that was a thing.
[1524.74] Jack: Can you send me that?
[1527.3] Jack: No, it's a vacuum kit with desiccant, the bags, the vacuum bags.
[1534.54] Jack: Yeah.
[1535.22] Stephen: If you've got loads of, if you've got loads of desiccant kicking around, I'll do the trick.
[1539.66] Stephen: Yeah.
[1540.86] Koel: Oh no.
[1541.7] Koel: Sunny bean is just nice.
[1543.94] Koel: They're quiet in a wheat field.
[1547.22] Curry: A murder to find things in, but where's your external beeper, which will be even if your battery comes off.
[1554.1] Curry: What's the mean 13 videos on these things?
[1556.5] Curry: People use them.
[1559.78] Stephen: Otherwise, any hope is to spot the toasty smelling plume that goes in the battery.
[1565.3] Stephen: Can't just find man.
[1567.98] Koel: That is, that's tough, especially well, at this time of year.
[1571.5] Curry: They're really tolerate at one of the meats we're at.
[1575.18] Curry: We had like a wing that was over a meter go down.
[1578.74] Curry: We saw it go down in the wheat field.
[1581.38] Curry: We like 30 guys walking up and down could not find it.
[1585.94] Curry: It was found when the farmer used to combine harvester and it wasn't in too bad a shape to say it's gone for a combine harvester.
[1595.06] Curry: It was returned.
[1596.18] Curry: No, no wing went on.
[1597.82] Curry: That's very nice.
[1599.26] Curry: Repained, but not necessarily in flying.
[1602.38] Curry: Not necessarily in a single piece.
[1603.82] Jack: Yeah, that was sorry, Carl.
[1609.18] Jack: The first mini air show that I went to that happened, a TBS disco went down and they were combining the wheat field.
[1626.62] Jack: And we we done I done the whole like remove my antennas and covered it.
[1632.34] Jack: My hands went like that.
[1634.86] Jack: And then as soon as you got a picture where you're facing it, so I would like lose here and I'd lose here and I'd go, guys, it's there.
[1644.1] Jack: And they kind of honed in on it and then they found it.
[1647.22] Jack: And I remember I was with Ed and that if we weren't to help the guy and I found it with the whole triangle.
[1654.9] Jack: And that's when I learned that trick.
[1656.98] Jack: If it's still at the VTX, you're able to, yeah, cover it with your hands and with no antenna.
[1665.34] Stephen: And then when you get a car and it will leave, yeah, you kind of like I think that's easier with wings than quads, because my VTX would normally either die from lack of battery or just over here.
[1677.22] Jack: Yeah, it's not going to work with digital, I don't think.
[1680.82] Stephen: Yeah, well, I also went to a massive batteries and VTX is nice and externally called and not just jammed in a stack.
[1690.65] Koel: Sorry, you're saying, oh, I was just saying, I remember when I crashed in the I guess it was technically a cornfield, but it was it was like a halfway through the season cornfield or wasn't early in the season cornfield.
[1704.13] Koel: I can't remember what time of year it was.
[1707.65] Koel: Yeah, that was that was actually not fun.
[1711.57] Koel: And luckily, I mean, I think we talked about it on the episode when it happened.
[1715.21] Koel: But yeah, a wheat field is usually a lot more dense than a cornfield, I think.
[1721.69] Koel: And you can't really like see through it or like, yeah, yeah.
[1727.37] Curry: Just to say, there's another thing that's insane.
[1730.93] Curry: It's so dense, you can't see right.
[1734.25] Stephen: You can't see a bloody thing.
[1735.41] Jack: Yeah. And it's hard to walk through as well.
[1738.73] Curry: Yeah, it's it's we had this thing I was with like Luke Bannister when he was about 13 and he'd been given this kite kite piranha, that TBS wing, it went down in the field.
[1753.09] Curry: And so I was showing him the thing with the usual usual antenna.
[1757.93] Curry: We locate it and he literally like a small rat was sort of going through this thing somehow got it because I couldn't I can get through.
[1766.65] Curry: He got the wing back, but he lost his GoPro.
[1769.01] Curry: So we can yeah, it's murder rapeseed.
[1775.01] Curry: I landed on top of it because I was like, oh, this is a nice soft landing and it was only like 10 feet away.
[1780.05] Curry: And I'm just trying to get through this stuff.
[1781.69] Curry: And it's like going through treacle.
[1783.49] Koel: Yeah, that sucks.
[1786.74] Koel: Yeah, I'm sure that you guys call it that because everybody.
[1791.86] Koel: Well, my dad used to call it that because he grew up in the middle of nowhere, Alberta.
[1795.38] Koel: But then now it's canola.
[1798.26] Stephen: Oh, yeah, yeah, it's just it just gets turned into vegetable oil, generic vegetable oil.
[1803.46] Stephen: But yeah, oil seat, right.
[1805.06] Curry: Yeah. Yeah.
[1806.58] Curry: We like to have sex crimes named after our parents, plants.
[1811.66] Koel: Yeah. Where the name comes from.
[1814.26] Curry: We also have like sexual assault, barley and, you know, other things.
[1820.84] Curry: It's not nice about the cabbages.
[1824.08] Frank: This episode was recorded in front of a live online audience, downloaded and edited to make sense
[1829.0] Frank: when it played audio only sensors to please the iTunes people hosted on the Internet,
[1833.64] Frank: forwarded through to your podcast provider, downloaded, playing on your device
[1837.32] Frank: and is now playing in your ears.
[1839.16] Frank: All thanks to our patrons.
[1841.36] Frank: Consider joining them and you'll also get other online benefits.
[1844.72] Frank: Find out more at patreon.com forward slash let's drone out.
[1849.64] Jack: Um, Swanee, what are you saying?
[1852.48] Jack: Mirtha died the other day and it's my fault for not flying.
[1856.6] Jack: I taped my phone to the mother.
[1863.16] Koel: I take my phone to.
[1864.4] Koel: Oh, well, I had words with the farmer's wife and was told to keep it keep to the tractors tracks.
[1870.04] Koel: Tram lines.
[1871.4] Koel: Oh, yeah, because you don't want to wreck the farmer's frickin.
[1874.56] Stephen: He wasn't flying and his mother died.
[1877.36] Jack: He was the beeper died.
[1881.72] Jack: I don't know.
[1883.6] Jack: Swanee, you're not making sense.
[1886.36] Jack: I mean, you're flying dead in the house for some horrible city.
[1889.92] Jack: Type that into that with the two events related to the beeper died.
[1894.84] Jack: Type type the whole story into chat.
[1898.24] Jack: GBT and then ask chat GBT.
[1902.4] Jack: Can you make this make sense?
[1904.4] Stephen: I think it's just write a real person if you are just go on the LRS discord.
[1912.56] Stephen: I mean, yeah, that we had a guy on here who is, you know, he deals with these problems all the time.
[1919.56] Stephen: Just go on their discord.
[1920.72] Stephen: They're lovely people and they will have seen 100 people with exactly the problem.
[1926.64] Curry: It is impressive, though, because if you're spent months trying to arm with Express LRS and you're still trying.
[1934.4] Curry: It's like, man, that is some, you know, just dedication right there.
[1939.0] Koel: Yeah.
[1940.04] Curry: The discord is full of very helpful people.
[1942.44] Stephen: But yeah, the school they saw.
[1944.92] Koel: Yeah. Well, you know what?
[1947.8] Koel: I will say that everything FPV is kind of like the hardest thing ever, because if you it's weird, though,
[1955.68] Koel: because once you're in it or once you know people that are in it, they always talk about how, oh, it's simple.
[1961.0] Koel: You just do this. You just do this.
[1962.72] Koel: It's like a list of like 10,000 things that you just do that.
[1965.52] Koel: You just do that. It's fine.
[1966.64] Stephen: You just sold these 20 complex components together in one specific configuration and then you're off and it's done.
[1973.0] Koel: Yeah, like, you know, setting up your radio easy.
[1975.64] Koel: You just do like, you know, that.
[1978.6] Stephen: And I'm like, I remember when I started, I got that deviation radio and everyone else had like open TX.
[1984.0] Stephen: And yeah, it was it was absolute murder because I was trying to use something that no one else had.
[1991.04] Stephen: I spent a long time before I could even like see any kind of joystick wiggling on the radio, like being able to map channels.
[1999.56] Stephen: Never mind to be able to get it working on quad.
[2001.84] Stephen: It was an embarrassingly slow process.
[2004.8] Koel: I'm just lucky that I had Jack because I I would have.
[2010.68] Curry: Not been in this hobby if it weren't for Jack, but I can give inspiration to people showing how us experts do it.
[2020.04] Curry: This is me launching my wing.
[2022.48] Curry: This was a successful launch of a wing.
[2024.36] Jack: Are you ready for this? Yeah, I'm on.
[2028.4] Koel: I'm more impressed by your by your your folder library on the left of Final Cut.
[2035.03] Koel: Oh, it's not showing anything for some reason.
[2037.75] Stephen: Yeah. Did it. Did it show? No.
[2039.55] Stephen: Did you know we see a still frame that's working?
[2042.55] Koel: Oh, the frame was some transform automation.
[2045.39] Stephen: Let me just do it in this window, see if it works better.
[2047.47] Stephen: Just maybe try full screen.
[2049.79] Jack: So it's Curry in a field.
[2052.07] Jack: Oh, there we go. Can do it.
[2053.63] Stephen: Oh, Jesus. Oh, oh, oh, oh, I believe in you, Curryism.
[2057.87] Jack: I believe in you, mate. It looks.
[2061.79] Jack: Oh, my God. Well, we've got several frames.
[2064.47] Jack: I can count the frames like pixels made a Lego, mate.
[2069.75] Curry: Oh, man, it's doing that.
[2071.43] Curry: It launched, turned over upside down.
[2075.95] Curry: And then I managed to take the throttle off, write it again,
[2078.47] Curry: just as it was coming to the ground.
[2080.47] Curry: We got it to go upwards.
[2082.71] Curry: But then then I put it into return home and it was OK.
[2086.31] Curry: But the other launches were terrible.
[2088.35] Curry: But if that's not showing up for you guys, it's it's probably not worth looking at.
[2093.55] Koel: Yeah, I saw the first bit of it.
[2096.59] Koel: It looked like it took a dive, though.
[2099.51] Curry: It did, but that seemed to overheat.
[2102.39] Curry: But that was the one that works.
[2104.47] Curry: Why is my spring not stopping?
[2106.59] Curry: Stop spring. There we go.
[2109.03] Curry: But I did. I did have one other little show and tell from that bit.
[2113.03] Curry: I did make DVR.
[2115.31] Curry: And this was the wing I showed the other day when I went to the OSD all went away.
[2123.27] Curry: And it did bad things.
[2124.79] Curry: So I put a capacitor on it.
[2127.27] Curry: And the idea was, I know I'll try another speed run and see what happens this time.
[2134.11] Curry: And is this one going to show people showing some love for deviation, VTX?
[2143.58] Stephen: Yeah, I still got it. Still great.
[2145.38] Stephen: Mine's upgraded with the super primo radio master gimbals and Express RS now.
[2150.78] Stephen: So it's about as good as it's going to be.
[2153.26] Stephen: And thanks to the patches put in for CRSF, it can run all the LRS stuff.
[2158.3] Stephen: But obviously, it's a bit limited if I want to do anything fancier than all my word.
[2163.86] Stephen: Yeah, about 30 degrees to the left and bouncing up and down like crazy.
[2167.98] Curry: This is this is the super bounce.
[2169.86] Curry: Yeah, we're just coming in here.
[2171.1] Curry: We're going to start the full speed run.
[2173.98] Curry: And something nice and smooth, so it's time to put the throttle on.
[2179.66] Curry: Lovely and smooth. Let's put the throttle on.
[2181.78] Curry: We fixed one problem, but we've developed an average that sort of thing.
[2186.06] Curry: Did I go back to planning?
[2189.02] Stephen: And just I'm just expecting a bit of the aircraft to appear in front of the camera
[2192.94] Stephen: and go whizzing off.
[2195.26] Curry: Surprisingly, not going to happen.
[2196.82] Curry: It's up to a hundred percent for all.
[2198.66] Curry: And we've got a little bit of little bit of jittery round there.
[2202.02] Jack: If you do that, it does not explode.
[2205.34] Jack: And it's just like a concentric weight.
[2207.9] Stephen: Now, do you have as many blades on the prop as you have when you start?
[2211.5] Stephen: Yeah, I think it is.
[2215.42] Jack: As the cheese that this is assembled with started to melt.
[2219.78] Curry: Yeah, right.
[2220.34] Curry: I think what happened when I landed.
[2224.14] Curry: This was kind of it was on a bit of Velcro and it had come off the Velcro.
[2229.1] Curry: So I think this was flapping around like this.
[2231.62] Curry: And that was causing the wing to wobble.
[2233.58] Curry: But on on subsequent interesting launches, if you know where I'm at this side,
[2239.26] Curry: this is some of the ESC wiring that broke off.
[2242.5] Curry: And it should be terrible that it landed on such a clunk.
[2247.66] Curry: But yeah, that is still a pain in the ass for lamb.
[2251.22] Curry: Land and in fact, launch.
[2252.78] Curry: Launching is worse.
[2253.78] Stephen: Caroline Tyler thinks you're just going too fast and the servos are not up to it.
[2257.38] Stephen: She thinks the rest of the airframe has no quality issues whatsoever.
[2260.7] Stephen: It's purely just the too fast.
[2263.94] Jack: Is that you write that before or after you saw the quality of assembly from Wayne Andries?
[2272.5] Jack: Numskull, how are you doing, buddy?
[2274.06] Jack: It's good to see you.
[2275.9] Jack: Just right is a bit of a 3D printed wing.
[2282.5] Stephen: Yeah, good luck, mate, because that is that's a one crash operation there.
[2287.66] Stephen: And if you three printed wings look beautiful,
[2290.1] Stephen: but when they are when you land a bit hard or don't take off quite right.
[2296.3] Jack: Stop using CA.
[2298.14] Jack: There's something called PLA go.
[2302.82] Jack: It's got the same stuff as PVC pipe.
[2306.54] Jack: Glue that melts the plastic, so it fuses into one.
[2311.54] Jack: I just I just want one person to be like a printed plane out of PLA.
[2316.42] Jack: And I didn't use super glue.
[2319.5] Stephen: Surely superglue can be stronger than PLA anyway.
[2323.78] Curry: And lightweight PLA is your current plane printing stuff of choice.
[2328.5] Curry: Although I've tried it a little bit more dialing in of the printer to use it.
[2334.46] Curry: I don't know if it's a terrible crash.
[2337.38] Jack: Oh, happy birthday, Dominic.
[2340.46] Jack: Hey, Dom. Happy birthday, buddy.
[2342.42] Koel: Happy birthday to you.
[2344.26] Jack: Happy birthday to you.
[2345.82] Jack: Happy birthday, dear Dom.
[2348.22] Jack: Happy birthday to you.
[2350.62] Koel: After how old are you now?
[2354.58] Jack: Oh, after we might hang out in the LDO chat and see whether
[2360.38] Jack: we can solve, get me to understand
[2366.14] Jack: how you get orientation
[2369.98] Jack: with a GPS without using the gyro or.
[2375.26] Koel: Jack is under the under Jack has this understanding in his brain
[2378.34] Koel: that the gyro of the flight controller somehow has something to do with the
[2382.78] Koel: GPS's aero position.
[2385.54] Stephen: It's just by forward speed, mate.
[2387.54] Stephen: It only works when you're actually moving and it just produces
[2390.98] Stephen: which way you're facing the vector.
[2392.74] Stephen: You are here now.
[2394.18] Stephen: You know, you're going that way.
[2395.94] Curry: Although once, of course, you can fly backwards and planes.
[2399.54] Stephen: It works well. This is why.
[2401.34] Stephen: Yeah. Thank you.
[2402.74] Jack: Yes. If you fly backwards.
[2405.66] Jack: Yeah. Orientation is just guess it.
[2408.5] Jack: It's assuming you're going.
[2409.9] Koel: But no, if you start at your at your home point and fly backwards,
[2413.38] Koel: then the arrow is still going to point towards getting back to you.
[2416.94] Koel: Is it not?
[2419.7] Stephen: Yeah. But the the arrow knows the direction.
[2423.42] Stephen: But we're talking about heading.
[2424.7] Stephen: So the direction to home is different to the north,
[2428.58] Stephen: northeast, southwest heading. Right.
[2431.54] Curry: Southwest. As long as you occasionally fly forwards,
[2434.46] Curry: you should get a fairly good look at.
[2436.18] Curry: Yeah. Yeah.
[2438.34] Stephen: No gyro for fighting the gross movement
[2442.1] Stephen: tends to be in the direction of the camera by and large.
[2444.5] Stephen: If you average it out.
[2445.46] Jack: And that's what you're born to.
[2447.54] Curry: Orientation. Yeah, you can see burn there for Jack.
[2454.58] Curry: Yeah, that's actually quite a large shell.
[2460.22] Curry: Apparently, crossfire went wrong or something.
[2463.46] Curry: That's what the story is.
[2465.7] Stephen: Bingo.
[2466.98] Stephen: It's the same thing.
[2468.66] Stephen: You have a like, I didn't want to hear what I already told you.
[2471.14] Stephen: I told you I'm driving.
[2472.5] Stephen: But should I turn left or right?
[2474.06] Stephen: And your car can't figure out which way to go because you haven't started moving yet.
[2478.02] Stephen: So it doesn't have a lock on.
[2479.5] Jack: Yeah, that's that's what I'm saying.
[2481.62] Jack: Yeah. Until you move forward, you need GPS does not guarantee
[2490.79] Jack: or doesn't really know your orientation.
[2494.71] Jack: That's why you have a compass as well. Yes, exactly.
[2497.91] Jack: And it's reliable.
[2500.79] Jack: It's tell you where you are.
[2501.95] Jack: And yes, you could triangulate.
[2505.35] Jack: But it must assure these days, just get everything, man.
[2508.47] Stephen: Get get a flight controller with an onboard barrow.
[2510.91] Stephen: There's loads of them like DSP three tens BMP two eighties, stuff like this.
[2516.11] Stephen: And I'll get to.
[2519.11] Stephen: I mean, that's the it's probably got one of those two chips on it.
[2521.59] Stephen: I get a compass with a built in mag.
[2524.75] Stephen: And then most modern flight controller firmware can just take all of this data
[2529.71] Stephen: and it bungs a bit of the barrow data into the GPS to give you more accurate
[2533.23] Stephen: height and it will blend the mag with the GPS to give you more accurate heading.
[2537.75] Stephen: You know, they'll just do that.
[2538.95] Koel: The real question is, do you even need all that?
[2543.47] Stephen: If you can get it for only a couple of grand where the hill is
[2546.19] Curry: before you fly back to it, you know, it's not going to give you a hill.
[2550.15] Stephen: I mean, you need it perfectly.
[2551.63] Stephen: You know, you fail safe between him and the radio.
[2562.55] Jack: Just because I don't instantly fall out of the sky.
[2566.43] Stephen: Right, Jack.
[2567.03] Stephen: So so we can design something for you here with a reverse parking sensor
[2571.39] Stephen: or maybe LIDAR as well.
[2572.67] Stephen: So it beeps if it detects a hill behind you.
[2578.15] Koel: He needs it.
[2578.63] Koel: He needs a OSD.
[2580.63] Koel: That's a secondary camera for his backup camera and his dials.
[2584.95] Stephen: You remember there was a trend a few years back where people did these cheetah
[2588.35] Stephen: quads, so all that stuff that cricket does where he flies backwards.
[2591.71] Stephen: You're like, oh my word, that's amazing.
[2593.23] Stephen: But you could just cheat and have a camera on the back and a VTX switch.
[2596.95] Stephen: Some of the Maytek FCs have a toggle switch and it's way easier.
[2600.63] Stephen: You can just switch between cameras.
[2601.79] Stephen: You can do that trivially.
[2604.67] Stephen: I think the FC that Jack has has two camera inputs.
[2608.59] Stephen: The big fancy Maytek one.
[2610.63] Stephen: I think that was one of the things they used to do.
[2614.67] Stephen: Yeah, yeah.
[2615.19] Stephen: And they had like there's sometimes in an FC you see user one and user two
[2619.47] Stephen: as like additional modes that appear.
[2621.75] Stephen: And those are used to things like toggling power on some of the pins.
[2625.15] Stephen: You can switch them on and off from the radio.
[2628.79] Stephen: And there's also sometimes a camera switch.
[2631.71] Stephen: So you have like camera one and camera two inputs.
[2633.99] Stephen: And those both get looped through the Max 7456 or whatever and shoved out.
[2642.51] Stephen: So you can toggle C1 or C2 and just, you know, have it as a mode.
[2647.23] Jack: Steven, I will need to borrow you after the show because I am stumped.
[2652.71] Jack: I've got a Foxy, a Reaper ESC, and I'm using that for my current tense.
[2657.27] Jack: And it just keeps climbing and doesn't make any sense.
[2663.03] Stephen: Does your Foxy, a Reaper actually have a current sensor on?
[2666.99] Jack: Yeah, it's got a current shunt on the ESC.
[2671.4] Jack: OK, I don't I don't know what I'm doing.
[2674.6] Stephen: And when you've got a current shunt that comes out of a pin on the ESC
[2680.0] Stephen: and you have to have a flight controller with a current sensor.
[2682.64] Stephen: I do.
[2683.08] Stephen: Like make sure that's linked in.
[2685.8] Stephen: OK, and then the ADC, you're definitely reading the ADC as the current reading
[2691.48] Stephen: and you're not reading something else.
[2692.8] Stephen: Because if you enable ESC telemetry via bidirectional D shot,
[2699.76] Stephen: then it'll think that bidirectional D shot is giving you the current sensor.
[2703.8] Stephen: And most of the time that doesn't happen.
[2705.44] Stephen: So you need to override it and say, I'm using the ADC input for the current sensor.
[2710.2] Jack: Oh, OK, no worries.
[2711.88] Stephen: Otherwise, it'll just you just get gibberish because D shot will be like,
[2716.08] Stephen: there's a number. I haven't got any data here.
[2718.0] Stephen: Have a number. Yeah, it rarely makes any sense.
[2721.4] Jack: OK, I'll switch you back to ADC.
[2724.72] Koel: All right, so now we also say current shunt 10 times fast.
[2728.56] Stephen: Current shunt, current shunt, current shunt, current shunt, current shunt, current shunt, current shunt.
[2734.32] Stephen: We speak English down here, Andy.
[2735.88] Stephen: English. Yeah, yeah, not vegetable.
[2742.48] Jack: Sorry, Andy. I hope you do.
[2743.52] Jack: I know. We love you, Andy.
[2745.96] Jack: I know, just totally undone my nice message that I sent him earlier on in the week.
[2751.88] Jack: You should come on now.
[2754.36] Jack: You're feeling better one of these days so you can fight back.
[2757.12] Jack: You're always welcome, Andy. Always welcome.
[2759.6] Jack: There's a big there's a big empty and the RC hold in LDO
[2764.36] Jack: that needs to be filled only by your.
[2766.36] Jack: I mean, stop right. Stop right there.
[2768.16] Jack: Yeah, I'm right there.
[2769.68] Koel: We already know where that's going.
[2771.0] Koel: We don't need to make it any uncomfortable now, Jack.
[2774.0] Jack: It was nice talking to Frank and hearing about all your everything that you guys have been getting up to and stuff.
[2784.0] Jack: Yeah, I should have a head tracking special.
[2787.0] Stephen: Head tracking special with Caroline and Andy would be awesome.
[2790.0] Jack: Yeah, so I'll tell you what, man.
[2792.0] Jack: Andy RC is a great old marketer because Frank bought another head tracker unit.
[2796.0] Jack: Yeah, he bought the much cheaper and it works by this time.
[2801.0] Stephen: Well, yeah.
[2803.0] Stephen: It's a mistake we will make, isn't it?
[2805.0] Stephen: You go to the big fancy one and then you find out the big fancy one doesn't quite look up to the hype.
[2809.0] Stephen: And the one you want is actually the cheaper community to develop one that does the upgrade marketing.
[2814.0] Koel: Yeah, the same thing applied, but totally different hobby was I bought the really expensive lens thing is so good.
[2821.0] Koel: Well, I returned it and got the cheaper third party one and it was just as good.
[2826.0] Koel: Yeah, if not better because it was way cheaper.
[2830.0] Stephen: Marketing budgets have a lot to answer for.
[2832.0] Stephen: Yeah.
[2833.0] Stephen: And Andy, if you've got any more info on the head tracker, 18 quid and he's saying in reference to the head tracker,
[2840.0] Stephen: it sounds like an absolute bargain.
[2841.0] Stephen: And I think at that point, people would be a lot more tempted to have a go,
[2845.0] Stephen: especially with all the wireless stuff that's gradually making its way into radios.
[2849.0] Stephen: And that'd be really interesting for people.
[2851.0] Stephen: So if you are in the mood to share some info and just have a chat about it,
[2857.0] Stephen: it doesn't have to be super high production value.
[2859.0] Stephen: Obviously you've seen the show.
[2861.0] Stephen: That would be awesome.
[2863.0] Jack: Curry drinking Chardonnay.
[2866.0] Jack: I don't know.
[2868.0] Koel: Bubbly bubbly.
[2871.0] Stephen: Headache in a glass.
[2876.0] Curry: Yeah.
[2877.0] Curry: Well, not for me.
[2878.0] Curry: This is since I switched to drinking just like red wine, Prosecco and cocktails.
[2884.0] Curry: No more hangovers.
[2886.0] Curry: Get rid of beer.
[2887.0] Curry: Just gout.
[2888.0] Curry: Beer is bad.
[2889.0] Curry: I already had gout.
[2890.0] Curry: So just go with that.
[2892.0] Koel: Fine.
[2893.0] Koel: For some reason, every time I like people will have a little champagne thing and I'll take like two steps of it
[2898.0] Koel: and I'll immediately get a headache every time.
[2900.0] Koel: So I just don't even do it anymore.
[2902.0] Koel: My house does.
[2903.0] Curry: Yeah.
[2904.0] Koel: Not for me.
[2905.0] Koel: It's lovely.
[2906.0] Koel: Even the expensive stuff did it.
[2907.0] Koel: And I'm like, well, no, thank you.
[2909.0] Koel: I will stick to my vodka shots.
[2911.0] Koel: Hydration.
[2912.0] Stephen: It's all about the hydration, guys.
[2914.0] Stephen: Yeah.
[2915.0] Stephen: Down the years.
[2916.0] Stephen: Gotta keep yourself hydrated.
[2918.0] Jack: What's going with the water chaser.
[2921.0] Jack: It's a causeway getting stuff done.
[2926.0] Jack: Yep.
[2928.0] Curry: Andy has been helping me with XF stuff because I've got one of their gimbals, which seem to be marketed as saying,
[2936.0] Curry: yeah, this works with O4 and Walksnail and analog.
[2942.0] Curry: And I got it and I plugged in the MIDI cable and nothing happened.
[2948.0] Curry: And then Andy's like, ah, it's different pins.
[2952.0] Curry: I was like, is it?
[2953.0] Curry: I didn't say that.
[2954.0] Curry: I was like, is it different pins?
[2955.0] Curry: And the guy from Banggood talked to XF and he came back and said, no, they said it should work.
[2960.0] Curry: It should be the same.
[2961.0] Curry: And then when I talked to them, they said, no, it's different.
[2963.0] Curry: You need a different cable.
[2965.0] Curry: So confusion.
[2967.0] Curry: But hopefully I get a proper cable.
[2969.0] Stephen: The XF head tracker, is it wireless to the radio or do you need the DSC trainer port cable?
[2979.0] Stephen: It's not really clear from the description here.
[2982.0] Stephen: I think it does need a plug, doesn't it, into the radio?
[2987.0] Stephen: I'm pleased to imply that because there's sort of talk of UART and data link cables and things.
[2997.0] Stephen: CPM slash UART data output.
[3000.0] Stephen: So I'm guessing that's not wireless.
[3003.0] Curry: There's been some work done last time I looked at it, which was a while ago, actually,
[3007.0] Curry: about making a wireless head tracker using the stuff that's in the HD zero goggles
[3014.0] Curry: because it's already got a transmitter in there and stuff for ERS.
[3020.0] Curry: So you should just be able to talk using the backpack to the radio to do the wireless head tracking that way.
[3025.0] Stephen: Yeah, that's what I'm hoping, right?
[3027.0] Stephen: The ERS just democratizes all this and the price point ends up being like a tenner
[3032.0] Stephen: and it's the size of a matchbox with the battery included and you're done.
[3035.0] Stephen: Andy says it does both, but you need radio links.
[3038.0] Stephen: So yeah, maybe not.
[3040.0] Stephen: Radio link is like what you find on really cheap RC cars.
[3044.0] Stephen: So not a great idea to start investing in radio link.
[3048.0] Jack: I struggled with the whole backpack thing.
[3051.0] Jack: I think it works.
[3053.0] Jack: It says SBI in my goggles.
[3056.0] Curry: You were asking me questions and I was like, jeez, I've forgotten.
[3060.0] Curry: I remember I was buying it on something that wasn't compatible with it
[3065.0] Curry: and they're like, no, you need a rapid fire or this particular module for it.
[3069.0] Curry: I was just using something else that was placed on the module.
[3072.0] Curry: They said it worked, but it wasn't the plain module.
[3075.0] Curry: But when I eventually used rapid fire, it worked.
[3078.0] Curry: But it did take a lot of to and froing with the Discord group.
[3083.0] Curry: As we mentioned to someone whose name I forget now,
[3086.0] Curry: if you talk to the lovely people on the Xpress LRS Discord group,
[3090.0] Curry: they will give you lots of fantastic and brilliant advice.
[3093.0] Curry: And that got me through it so I could actually make it work.
[3099.0] Stephen: Oh, there we are.
[3100.0] Stephen: It says Phil's using wireless head tracking with the LRS backpack and HD0 goggles.
[3107.0] Stephen: So there's a few options out there.
[3109.0] Stephen: Obviously, if you really want a specific, highly complex solution,
[3114.0] Stephen: then it usually involves a bit of legwork.
[3117.0] Stephen: But it has a lot of drift issues.
[3121.0] Jack: Yeah, the backpack does seem to work with my goggles
[3124.0] Jack: because it comes up with SPI mode on the goggles.
[3130.0] Jack: But when I go to change channel via the OSD,
[3134.0] Jack: it just doesn't automatically jump.
[3137.0] Jack: And I don't understand why.
[3138.0] Curry: The problem is that it doesn't play nicely
[3142.0] Curry: if you use a different way of changing it.
[3145.0] Curry: So if you're using the backpack, then you have to use the backpack
[3149.0] Curry: or the radio to do it.
[3151.0] Curry: If you start messing around with the OSD,
[3153.0] Curry: I know it's like halfway through, the backpack will say,
[3156.0] Curry: whoa, you're on the wrong channel.
[3157.0] Curry: That's exactly what I have.
[3159.0] Curry: What's happening?
[3160.0] Stephen: That's why I waited until Skylink did...
[3163.0] Stephen: No, Skyzone did their own goggles module with the backpack built in
[3170.0] Stephen: because a lot of them say, well, yeah, to get this working properly,
[3174.0] Stephen: you've got to chop these pins out and then connect the backpack
[3177.0] Stephen: because if you don't chop those pins out
[3179.0] Stephen: and you try and use the buttons, it just goes haywire.
[3182.0] Stephen: That's why backpack or buttons.
[3184.0] Stephen: But with Skyzone, they built it directly into their own goggle module.
[3188.0] Stephen: So you just upgraded one of the boards
[3190.0] Stephen: and then goggles had ELS backpack built in.
[3193.0] Stephen: And because it was properly integrated into the system
[3196.0] Stephen: instead of just bunged on the side,
[3198.0] Stephen: it worked with the buttons as well as my backpack.
[3201.0] Curry: I actually ended up taking mine out when I moved to my HD0 goggles,
[3206.0] Curry: mostly because I mostly fly by myself
[3209.0] Curry: and all my stuff's on R1.
[3211.0] Curry: Unless I'm with someone else, then I might change it.
[3214.0] Curry: So it's not like that.
[3215.0] Curry: Quite a coincidence.
[3216.0] Curry: All my stuff's on R1 as well, Kerry.
[3217.0] Curry: We should go flying someday.
[3218.0] Curry: Yeah, that'd be fun.
[3219.0] Curry: Let's see.
[3220.0] Curry: I use one of my 10-watt systems.
[3221.0] Curry: Let's see who gets the picture.
[3223.0] Jack: Have either of you two ever done the lone model thing?
[3228.0] Jack: I've never seen that thing.
[3230.0] Stephen: The bumped model.
[3232.0] Stephen: It had a bump sensor so you'd tap radios, didn't it?
[3235.0] Stephen: And then it would hand over the pairings to the other radio.
[3238.0] Stephen: It was nuts.
[3239.0] Stephen: I don't think many people used it.
[3240.0] Stephen: It was just like, hey, we've got this sensor in here that can detect bumps.
[3246.0] Curry: I don't think there's that many people who say,
[3248.0] Curry: fly this, go and really go for it.
[3250.0] Curry: I was like, I can't have Jack fly one of my models.
[3252.0] Curry: Why don't you just take this and figure out what all my channel mappings are?
[3256.0] Stephen: I'm sure you could just guess what my channel mappings are.
[3258.0] Stephen: No, don't take my radio.
[3259.0] Stephen: It's my radio.
[3260.0] Stephen: Here, just take the model from this radio
[3263.0] Stephen: and then guess what all the channel mappings are.
[3265.0] Stephen: Do it that way.
[3266.0] Stephen: No one does that.
[3267.0] Stephen: I'm just going to say, it counts as f***ing mental.
[3271.0] Stephen: Because you always go into a flying club and everyone's got their radios configured
[3274.0] Stephen: exactly the same way with the same channel mappings.
[3277.0] Stephen: But arming's more fixed now, but you'd have weird s*** like changing your flight mode
[3283.0] Stephen: on one switch and someone else put it on a completely different switch and so on and so forth.
[3288.0] Curry: Maybe that's why these flying clubs like these radios that don't allow you to use
[3292.0] Curry: different switches for stuff.
[3293.0] Curry: It's like, which is your dual rate switch?
[3295.0] Curry: Oh, it's that one labeled dual rates.
[3297.0] Curry: It's like, there you go.
[3298.0] Jack: And the gear switch, I haven't had that since my bloody Turner G9X.
[3305.0] Jack: Cole, you're so lucky you don't have to deal with that stuff, mate.
[3309.0] Koel: Yeah, I don't even know what the heck you guys are talking about.
[3311.0] Koel: That's why I've been so quiet.
[3312.0] Jack: Yeah.
[3313.0] Jack: Stephen, we have to meet up and get the old historical quad
[3319.0] Jack: because I think I've found even older ESCs to put on it now.
[3325.0] Jack: To make it just that little bit worse.
[3328.0] Jack: Why are you hitting yourself?
[3329.0] Jack: Why are you hitting yourself there?
[3332.0] Jack: Yeah.
[3333.0] Jack: I still need some Cobra motors though.
[3335.0] Jack: That's the only thing I'm like holding out for.
[3338.0] Jack: Cobra is an interesting 2300 KV.
[3342.0] Curry: I still got a quad with cobras on it.
[3345.0] Curry: In fact, I think I put it on that.
[3347.0] Curry: Do you know that stupid quad, which is the arms in just the line?
[3351.0] Curry: I think the Cobra motors are on that at the moment.
[3354.0] Stephen: Which you donate them.
[3356.69] Stephen: You are allowed to buy new motors.
[3358.69] Stephen: It's allowed.
[3359.69] Stephen: No.
[3360.69] Stephen: If you just have an old frame.
[3361.69] Jack: We've got to make a quad and make Cole fly it and be like, enjoy.
[3367.69] Curry: I want to know because I've got a box of lots of motors.
[3371.69] Curry: All different.
[3373.69] Curry: Can I just put different motors and different sized props on and expect something to fly?
[3377.69] Curry: I think that'd be an interesting one.
[3379.69] Stephen: Yeah.
[3380.69] Stephen: So Caroline's like, I just have one quad configuration on the radio.
[3383.69] Stephen: Simples.
[3384.69] Stephen: Yeah.
[3385.69] Stephen: Yeah.
[3386.69] Stephen: Welcome to the solipsism of the lone flyer.
[3388.69] Stephen: Caroline.
[3389.69] Stephen: Other people probably also have just one quad configuration on the radio.
[3392.69] Stephen: But I bet they like put the flying mode switch on where you've got the beeper, for example,
[3398.69] Stephen: and they probably put the beeper on something that you don't even have on your radio.
[3402.69] Stephen: And if you swap radios, okay.
[3405.69] Stephen: Be like, I can't take off because it's just sitting there beeping at me.
[3411.0] Stephen: Stop it.
[3412.0] Curry: Stop it.
[3413.0] Curry: I have four models for a quad.
[3415.0] Curry: Only because there's a 2.4 and an 868.
[3418.0] Curry: And then each of them have a GPS or a non GPS variant where I use the switches slightly
[3424.0] Curry: differently.
[3425.0] Stephen: Bi-blades.
[3427.54] Stephen: I just leave GPS and everything like bound to a five channel.
[3430.54] Stephen: I've got enough channels that I don't need them.
[3433.54] Stephen: Don't need all the channels.
[3434.54] Jack: Yeah.
[3435.54] Jack: This will drive Steve a nut.
[3436.54] Jack: Bi-blades.
[3437.54] Jack: Look at that.
[3438.54] Jack: I've got bi-blades.
[3439.54] Curry: I've got bi-blades for you.
[3441.54] Curry: I bet you haven't got any gym pens.
[3444.54] UNKNOWN: 50-30s.
[3445.54] Curry: That's what you need.
[3446.54] Jack: Yeah, I do.
[3447.54] Jack: I do.
[3448.54] Jack: I've got two sets and they're on my bathroom floor.
[3453.54] Jack: I can bend my list.
[3456.54] Curry: What do we have here?
[3458.54] Jack: Hang on a minute.
[3459.54] Jack: Has anyone got the old original HQ glass fiber ones that look like they could be?
[3466.54] Jack: Did you give me any of them, Jack?
[3470.54] Jack: No.
[3471.54] Jack: I'm not that cruel.
[3472.54] Jack: That would drive you nuts.
[3473.54] Koel: Did you give me some like ball nose ones or something?
[3478.54] Stephen: Yeah.
[3479.54] Stephen: The D226.
[3480.54] Stephen: In first though.
[3482.54] Stephen: Do you want it specifically 50-30s?
[3485.54] Stephen: Yeah.
[3486.54] Curry: 55-36.
[3487.54] Curry: You've got to be super flexible.
[3490.54] UNKNOWN: Dom.
[3491.54] Curry: Made out of tissue paper.
[3494.54] Curry: HQs.
[3495.54] Curry: I've got a big one.
[3497.54] Curry: Hit me up.
[3501.29] Stephen: Jump fan.
[3502.29] Stephen: 49-34.
[3505.29] Stephen: Spang.
[3506.29] Stephen: Those were awful props.
[3508.29] Koel: Were they bad?
[3509.29] Koel: I had them.
[3510.29] Koel: I never used them.
[3511.29] Koel: I got them at drone fest, I think.
[3512.29] Stephen: Do you get annoyed that your motors are not hot enough and that your batteries last too
[3516.29] Jack: long?
[3517.29] Jack: Spang.
[3518.29] Jack: Dom's got an Acro TBS disco.
[3523.29] Jack: The Acro disco.
[3525.29] Curry: An Acro TBS disco.
[3527.29] Curry: That seems like what it's more on.
[3529.29] Curry: I don't understand how people are acroing that.
[3531.29] Jack: I don't either, but he did.
[3534.29] Jack: He was calling with Steel out and that's what I remember.
[3539.29] Jack: Dom, you're welcome to post that link if you've got it.
[3546.29] Curry: Is it on NASA?
[3547.29] Curry: No.
[3548.29] Curry: That's no fun, is it?
[3551.29] Jack: He reckons he's still got it in a closet somewhere and hasn't touched it since.
[3559.29] Stephen: Oh, I suppose like fixed-wing people, when they've got like actually different rates
[3564.65] Stephen: they need that they can't set on the model, that makes more sense having a model for each.
[3568.61] Stephen: Obviously, with quads, you're just like, yeah, I'll just map that on the flight controller.
[3573.33] Jack: I do remember.
[3574.33] Jack: See, I was there.
[3575.33] Jack: It's like when people bang on about D-shot, I was there when it was written.
[3581.33] Jack: I was there when it was still, it was basically from the LED configure.
[3588.97] Curry: I do remember when we started flying like on NASA like about 12, 13 years ago and one
[3594.65] Curry: of my friends would, I'd say acro, what it means he could do a loop and it took about
[3599.05] Curry: four seconds to go and we're like, wow, look at that, it's amazing, that's too scary.
[3608.21] Koel: If any of the viewers that aren't Patreons want to join the Patreon, Jack and I have
[3613.93] Koel: a few bonus pods where we're going through the history of FPV and I'm learning all about
[3619.97] Koel: the fun, the fun, good old days.
[3622.49] Koel: So he learned about just the last one.
[3626.09] Curry: I did.
[3627.09] Koel: Oh, good.
[3628.09] Koel: I learned about all the, all the good stuff, which I was giving Jack though the other day
[3633.61] Koel: because I was like, Jack, if this guy's quad is flying smooth in 2013, 2014, why is yours
[3641.93] Koel: not in 2025?
[3642.93] Koel: I said, there's something, I mean, you need to get a 3D printed GoPro mount, not a hard
[3649.37] Koel: wedge.
[3650.37] Koel: I know.
[3651.37] Curry: That's just people putting in more effort.
[3653.41] Curry: Do you remember a guy called Wycopter who was a first guest on LDO?
[3660.25] Curry: No way.
[3661.25] Curry: He was super smooth, but he took so much time over like, he was using earplugs.
[3666.81] Jack: He was using earplugs to attach his, I was using earplugs, but my stuff.
[3671.89] Curry: That didn't fly as well as his.
[3673.97] Jack: Yeah.
[3674.97] Jack: I like, I like Wycopter.
[3676.93] Jack: He was a good dude.
[3679.09] Jack: He was like one of the last people to get permission to fly on national trust.
[3683.57] Jack: No way.
[3684.57] Curry: It's probably one of the last people actually announced.
[3688.21] Jack: Yeah.
[3689.21] Jack: It's pretty pointless now, but yeah, um, yeah, you should listen to the, there is a Wycopter
[3699.37] Jack: episode.
[3700.37] Jack: You could tune in and I think it was pre-recorded interview as well.
[3705.85] Jack: Balance your props.
[3706.85] Jack: Balance you props.
[3707.85] Jack: Yeah.
[3708.85] Curry: Props don't last long enough to balance them.
[3714.2] Curry: That's Mike's guess.
[3716.2] Curry: You're doing it wrong if you need to slow down and balance the props.
[3720.12] Koel: Yeah.
[3721.12] Koel: Just that's a thing of the past, isn't it?
[3724.8] Jack: Yeah.
[3725.8] Jack: Yeah.
[3726.8] Jack: Yeah.
[3727.8] Jack: It's a bit of a frustration on if you mind you, you can calibrate a gimbal though, but
[3733.96] Koel: I can easily with my eyes closed and just by, by, by hearing it and feeling it, I can
[3739.92] Koel: get, yeah, I'm not trying to toot my own horn here, but I, I, is, is that pit tuning?
[3745.36] Jack: Is that basically, it means you're on the spectrum.
[3747.88] Jack: Yeah.
[3748.88] Koel: I mean, it's
[3749.88] Koel: Yeah.
[3750.88] Koel: Yeah.
[3751.88] Koel: Yeah.
[3752.88] Koel: It's camera gimbals are actually not that hard to calibrate.
[3757.12] Koel: If you have the software and you would just put force on each access and keep upping
[3762.24] Koel: the power until it starts vibrating, then dial it back a bit.
[3765.76] Koel: All right.
[3766.76] Koel: Next access, start banging on it.
[3767.96] Curry: Yeah.
[3768.96] Curry: Did you get him to try and do that gimbal?
[3770.76] Curry: You had all that time.
[3771.76] Curry: Makes sense.
[3772.76] Curry: The nasty one.
[3773.76] Curry: The big one.
[3774.76] Koel: Was it the, what was it?
[3775.76] Koel: What was the name of it?
[3776.76] Koel: The guy?
[3777.76] UNKNOWN: Storm.
[3778.76] Stephen: It makes a lot of sense.
[3779.76] Stephen: The way you described it, Michael, where you just like find the point where you can
[3783.52] Stephen: saturate the motor and then back it off a bit.
[3785.84] Koel: Yeah.
[3786.84] Koel: That's how I always do it.
[3787.84] Koel: I learned it a long time ago, um, from some guy on YouTube where he said to do it a certain
[3793.16] Koel: way, but I just started like putting force on it more than he was saying to do.
[3798.52] Koel: And it just, it always worked out.
[3800.08] Koel: And he always see all these people saying, Oh yeah, just, just do the auto tune setting
[3805.16] Koel: and it'll, it'll be good.
[3806.28] Koel: But like, it never gives good results.
[3807.8] Koel: You just, I always stuck to the bang on the axis until it starts vibrating after you've
[3812.48] Koel: up the power, back off the power, move on.
[3815.92] Stephen: Yeah.
[3816.92] Stephen: So you're finding the limit, the motor can deliver and then back off a bit.
[3821.0] Stephen: So stay with insect tolerance and then you're good.
[3823.92] Jack: Yeah.
[3824.92] Jack: Right.
[3825.92] Jack: Unfortunately, that is all we got time for.
[3830.2] Jack: The show is sponsored and helped out by all the lovely patrons.

[3932.4] Jack: Thank you.
[3933.4] Curry: Good night.
[3934.4] Curry: Bye.
