[0.0] Jack: Hello, and you're listening to Let's Drone Out, a special thank you to our lovely Patrons
[6.28] Jack: that help donate so that we can pay the editor to remove the swear words and silly things
[11.36] Jack: we say.
[13.0] Jack: Massive thank you to Carlos Campos, Art Faulkner, Sam Dahmer.
[19.68] Frank: On with the show.
[20.68] Koel: Let's drone out.
[21.68] Jack: Hello, and you're listening to Let's Drone Out.
[54.8] Jack: Tonight, we are joined by everyone's favorite curry kitten.
[58.16] Jack: Hello.
[59.16] Jack: The man with the wonderful tash, Steven.
[62.32] Jack: Hello.
[63.32] Stephen: I was prepared to be in parts of Zoom, but I'm not quite ready.
[69.4] Jack: The bulwasher extraordinaire.
[71.2] Jack: Ham.
[72.2] Jack: Fresh.
[73.2] Jack: Waller.
[74.2] Jack: TV.
[75.2] Jack: Coal.
[76.2] Jack: Back from Poland, did you get accusted by any blonde-haired, blue-eyed Polish girls in
[83.8] Jack: those weird dresses, or were you too busy guzzling sausage?
[88.56] Frank: No, I was too busy spending all day in a box hidden away from the rest of the world.
[95.28] Frank: Well, you know, whatever does it for you, mate.
[98.88] Curry: What's for you?
[99.88] Curry: In the gimp suit, the box is a happy man.
[101.92] Jack: Yeah.
[102.92] Jack: And I am bright until I fly.
[105.88] Jack: Hello.
[106.88] Jack: Hello.
[107.88] Jack: Frank, you've been doing the most exciting thing.
[110.2] Jack: What's been going on with you in your sex box?
[113.0] Frank: I assume that you, you mean, so today, I spent the day commissioning a 42S2000P battery.
[119.92] Frank: That was exciting.
[120.92] Frank: What?
[121.92] Frank: Slightly hair-raising.
[122.92] Stephen: Was that a bicycle, or a car, or what was going on there?
[129.64] Frank: A house.
[130.64] Frank: A house?
[131.64] Jack: Yeah.
[132.64] Jack: Interesting.
[133.64] Jack: When IEC isn't deadly enough.
[136.28] UNKNOWN: Yeah.
[137.28] UNKNOWN: Wow.
[138.28] Curry: It's just an energy storage idea for solar.
[141.84] Frank: Yeah.
[142.84] Frank: This is a whole home storage laptop.
[144.76] Frank: How many ampoules is that?
[147.84] Frank: Many.
[148.84] Frank: Many.
[149.84] Frank: Yeah.
[150.84] Frank: It's, I mean, it's like seven kilowatt hours or something like that.
[156.68] Frank: It's, you know, it's enough to keep you going for a while, but it's not going to change
[163.28] Frank: the world.
[164.28] Frank: It's heavy.
[165.28] Frank: I'll tell you that much.
[166.28] Stephen: Yeah.
[167.28] Stephen: Do you deliver it all in one go, or do you have it in, like, modular bits that you carry
[170.24] Stephen: in one after the other?
[172.04] Stephen: Very heavy modules that are just, oh my goodness.
[177.0] Stephen: It's hard work.
[178.0] Stephen: Backbreakingly ruinous.
[179.0] Koel: Yeah.
[180.0] Stephen: Yeah.
[181.0] Stephen: That sounds crazy.
[182.0] Stephen: Yeah.
[183.0] Stephen: I remember with data center stuff, they used to have these, like, bugging lead acid bits
[186.6] Stephen: back in the day, and they always weighed an absolute ton.
[189.92] Stephen: I dread to think what it's like now with even bigger batteries.
[192.8] Frank: Yeah.
[193.8] Frank: Yeah.
[194.8] Frank: And then there's the inverter.
[196.64] Frank: The inverter is, like, even more heavy than any of the battery modules.
[201.36] Stephen: So what's it rated to actually supply in terms of, like, wattage or amps?
[208.08] Frank: It is 16 amps.
[210.08] Frank: It's only 16 amps.
[212.08] Frank: Okay.
[213.08] Frank: 16 amps at 240 volts.
[216.52] Curry: I suppose most things in the house only use 13 amps, Max.
[220.56] Curry: Yeah.
[221.56] Curry: But you've got to decide that.
[222.56] Curry: It's been running in the entire house.
[224.52] Frank: There's actually a bit of regulation.
[227.24] Frank: It could do way more, but it's limited to exactly 16 amps because of the rules.
[231.64] Frank: Oh, right.
[232.64] Frank: Because of wiring or something.
[234.08] Frank: It turns out electricity companies get a bit miffed if you put loads of power into their
[240.92] Frank: network unexpectedly.
[242.92] Stephen: Oh, right.
[243.92] Stephen: Because you might dump it back onto the network, not just onto the house.
[247.2] Stephen: Oh, yeah.
[248.2] Stephen: We still really have a grid that's geared for consumption and not distribution, right?
[252.68] Stephen: There's distribution, and that's found out from the top-down only sort of way, not giving
[257.76] Stephen: it back from the individual households.
[259.84] Frank: Yeah, exactly.
[261.68] Frank: But I don't think that's really what you wanted me to talk about.
[265.64] Stephen: I suspect.
[266.64] Stephen: Fascinated, actually, but, you know, I don't think that was where the question was intended
[272.56] Frank: to go.
[273.56] Frank: I think you were intending more about that.
[275.92] Frank: I spent a few days last week vision mixing a load of live streams of an air show, but
[288.52] Frank: kind of an air show is sort of the wrong way to say it.
[292.28] Frank: So I mean, I don't even know where to start.
[296.72] Frank: We had.
[297.72] Frank: OK, so there was 10 minutes where we had 11 aircraft going through the air, including
[303.32] Frank: two fast jets, hot air balloons, biplanes, a stolen aircraft, an RC plane and FPV drone
[321.12] Frank: and a couple of Mavic type drones flying around all this as it was happening in front of 40,000
[326.92] Frank: people at night with a load of fireworks on everything.
[332.64] Frank: So, you know, that's what I was doing.
[335.76] Koel: Yeah, no big deal.
[336.76] Koel: Yeah.
[337.76] Koel: You know, average day.
[338.76] UNKNOWN: Wow.
[339.76] Frank: And we had a full live orchestra as well.
[344.6] Frank: Just the air.
[345.6] Frank: Also flying around.
[346.6] Frank: Impressive.
[347.6] Koel: Yeah.
[348.6] Koel: Well, I saw I saw some of the like the little teaser trailer recap things, man, it looked
[353.36] Koel: insane.
[354.36] Frank: I don't know if you want to see the Super Cup of the EV stuff.
[359.36] Frank: Here we go.
[360.36] Frank: Here we go.
[364.48] Koel: Oh, that's cool.
[366.48] Koel: Nice.
[367.48] Koel: It's incredible.
[368.48] Koel: I think the UK air show is where you need to just pull that thing out, dude, that the
[373.56] Koel: shot of the balloons and then when they're like dropping out of the helicopter thing,
[377.72] Curry: like, oh, that's so sick.
[379.2] Curry: And it's just got random motorbikes doing backflips over somebody over a over a carbon
[385.12] Frank: cup flying underneath them.
[386.32] Frank: Yeah.
[387.32] Stephen: You know, why is the video in an intelligent person format?
[391.52] Stephen: This is because we need to have an unintelligent person format to post it on unintelligent
[396.48] Stephen: platforms.
[397.48] Stephen: I think, yeah, it's become a tick tocker.
[401.52] Frank: Now, this was this was an tech.
[404.0] Frank: I imagine he's preparing it for Instagram.
[406.76] Frank: Yeah, they expect as part of the real.
[412.4] Frank: Yeah, some cool stuff.
[415.8] Koel: Nice.
[416.8] Frank: And yes, and this is all above board.
[419.48] Frank: We've all got the paperwork signed off all agreed with, you know, the aviation authorities
[425.16] Frank: and the pilots and all this kind of stuff.
[429.64] Frank: But that's the thing is like, no one died under the other, right?
[434.2] Stephen: Like it's still the same year we left the EU to get away from all this reckless behavior
[438.8] Stephen: and stop having fun.
[440.6] Frank: Yeah.
[441.6] Frank: It's just, you know, if the CIA or EMFA or whoever start trying to blame ERs for anything,
[449.48] Stephen: it's like, no, we can send them back to any time your CIA come up and use just like ERs
[455.64] Stephen: are approved air show.
[457.92] Frank: Yeah, exactly.
[459.92] Frank: In Europe, all above board, all agreed.
[463.2] Frank: All doable.
[464.2] Jack: Yep.
[465.2] Jack: Goes to show.
[466.2] Jack: Yeah.
[467.52] Jack: They asked our opinion.
[469.6] Jack: We told them no.
[470.6] Jack: And guess what?
[471.6] Jack: They listened to us.
[472.6] Jack: Unlike some cuffing bodies.
[475.6] Frank: I mean, they've been working on this for about five years, right?
[480.04] Frank: So they have built up the knowledge and sort of done it bit by bit to get to that point
[484.56] Frank: where they can have multiple drones flying around in the aerobatic box with all these
[490.0] Frank: different acts.
[491.0] Frank: But still, it's a case of it's not like they're having to meticulously plan every maneuver
[500.08] Frank: a year in advance and get it all signed off.
[502.36] Frank: You know, they're working with the displays, but it's not.
[509.28] Frank: Some countries just love the European environment.
[511.4] Frank: We might.
[512.4] Stephen: Yeah.
[513.4] Koel: Maybe one of those.
[514.4] Frank: Yeah.
[515.4] Frank: You know, I mean, they do know a lot of the pilots, like they travel around the world
[519.2] Frank: and do a lot of the same shows.
[520.6] Frank: So they've built up that kind of understanding between them as well.
[524.08] Frank: So that obviously is going to help.
[527.04] Frank: Yeah, it's just absolutely mind blowing event.
[532.72] Curry: Well, it is Europe, but it's kind of Eastern Europe.
[538.4] Curry: Is it still easier to get that sort of stuff signed off there versus France, Germany, anywhere
[544.44] Curry: else?
[545.44] Curry: Or is this isn't just UK being crap?
[549.24] Frank: I don't know.
[553.52] Frank: I think it helps that the organizer of this air show is sort of the guy who organized
[563.04] Frank: the the cub landing on the Burj Khalifa and stuff like that.
[566.48] Frank: That's that is his his wheelhouse.
[569.52] Frank: So he's up for all this kind of stuff.
[573.76] Stephen: It's very much a hold my beer type of chap.
[576.84] Frank: I don't think it's quite like that.
[579.44] Frank: It's just, you know, there's calculated risks, but there's mitigations and, you know, it's
[587.44] Frank: just not immediately going, no, this is something I don't I haven't seen before.
[593.84] Frank: There are therefore it must be dangerous.
[596.44] Frank: It's just, well, to do this safely, we would have to do it this way and do this in advance.
[604.04] Frank: Let's do that.
[605.84] Frank: Yeah.
[606.84] Stephen: And still, like building up the conversation, rising rather than just coming out with a
[612.24] Stephen: hard no.
[613.24] Frank: Yeah.
[614.24] Frank: Yeah.
[615.24] Frank: And saying, you know, this is the limit this year and we'll we'll see how that goes.
[618.84] Frank: And then, OK, that works well that we can move forward in this direction.
[625.24] Stephen: That's sensible, I think.
[629.24] Stephen: Yeah.
[630.24] Stephen: That's hard to argue with that kind of explanation.
[632.64] Stephen: It seems it seems appropriate to the task at hand.
[636.84] Frank: Yeah.
[637.84] Frank: Proportionate.
[638.84] Frank: Yeah.
[639.84] Frank: All of these things.
[641.84] Frank: Yeah.
[644.84] Frank: I've also been up to Western Park, I think, since I last came on the show.
[650.84] Frank: I don't think I've been on the show since then.
[652.84] Jack: You got to see our beloved boy.
[656.84] Frank: Yeah.
[657.84] Frank: Went and hung around with Andy and Phil and did some head tracking, FPV, flying information.
[662.84] Stephen: Experience the joy of a working head tracker, according to Mr. R.C.'s video.
[667.04] Frank: I have this turned up a few hours before his video went out.
[672.84] Frank: Yeah.
[673.84] Frank: The XF head tracker, because I borrowed his in the field, but I immediately ordered this
[679.32] Frank: £18 from AliExpress.
[682.12] Frank: And done.
[683.4] Frank: Having spent however many months it was trying to get the Motion 6 £100 head tracker to
[690.68] Frank: not lose its orientation as soon as you put it on your head, that was the problem.
[697.68] Frank: If you leave it on the bench, don't touch it.
[701.88] Frank: It'll work forever and not have any drift.
[704.68] Frank: And as I think you can nudge it, it'll start drifting and just go weird places and not...
[711.88] Stephen: The trouble with a head tracker is, though, Andy, that a lot of the time with head trackers,
[716.52] Stephen: what you want to do ultimately is to move them.
[721.32] Frank: Yes, exactly, exactly.
[724.6] Frank: So I was just tearing my hair out with that head tracker because it'd be like, oh, I fixed
[730.44] Frank: it and then go out to the field, put it back on, take off, and then 30 seconds later it's...
[738.28] Frank: All of a sudden I can only see my left wing and nothing else, which is a trickier...
[743.76] Stephen: If you develop a coping mechanism, I've counter-rotating slowly while you're flying.
[748.88] Frank: Well, yeah, it sort of ends up just sort of turning round just to be able to see things again.
[754.0] Stephen: Yeah, if I fly for half the pack, I'm going to be like 180 degrees from where I was facing
[760.64] Frank: when I took off.
[763.36] Frank: Robert at Motion Sick has said he's sent me a replacement. He thinks it's faulty hardware.
[770.32] Frank: Well, in 20 minutes with the XF head tracker and it just worked and has...
[779.12] Stephen: But in terms of features, what drew you to the Motion Sick?
[782.64] Stephen: Clearly it must have had some draw to pay five times as much.
[786.4] Frank: Well, the Motion Sick one existed and people were using it and said it was the one to get.
[792.88] Frank: Andy and John both said this is the one.
[798.48] Jack: Sorry, Stephen. Frank is, and always will be, Frank.
[803.52] Jack: The only Andy on this show is of the RC variety.
[808.8] Jack: And if you're very serious, you may call Frank Andrew.
[815.36] Frank: No, it was a bit of a challenge just thinking about the parallel team we were.
[822.16] Frank: So we had, I feel like they sort of had an alphabetical list of people to have along,
[828.32] Frank: because we had Antec, Alex, Adam, Andy, me, Adrian.
[835.76] Frank: Yeah, so there's a lot of A's in the team.
[840.0] Frank: Yeah, he gets confused.
[840.96] Stephen: He's been inviting people until they run that process and they just kind of got to maybe Charlie and then stopped.
[848.8] Koel: Well, it's interesting. I just looked up Motion Sick and it looks like they are
[853.2] Koel: a USA-based family business out of Irvine, California.
[858.8] Frank: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, he's gone.
[863.2] Koel: With extended family in Taiwan.
[865.84] Koel: Exactly.
[866.88] Koel: Wow. So funny enough, I was actually in Irvine, California when I was in America,
[872.4] Koel: and I also potentially have extended family in Taiwan.
[877.52] Koel: I need to be friends with him today.
[880.16] Frank: He does some very cool stuff with the head tracking FPV, scale FPV, or that kind of thing.
[885.28] Frank: He is like, apart from this head tracker that I've had an issue with.
[890.72] Frank: I've also got his pan-tilt gimbal, also on Andy and John's recommendation,
[897.04] Frank: and that is very good, although Andy reckons that the new servos that I've got or had
[904.72] Frank: are not as good as the original ones, but that's by-the-by.
[911.12] Stephen: With gimbals, do they ever do that as well as just kind of...
[916.32] Frank: Roll as...
[918.0] Stephen: Yeah, do you get roll on the gimbals?
[920.08] Frank: There are some that do. I have not bothered,
[923.68] Frank: and I'm not aware of anyone doing fixed-wing stuff that has bothered with that.
[930.0] Curry: Just curious.
[931.2] Frank: Yeah.
[932.0] Frank: With a bit of a bit of gimbal.
[934.0] Curry: With gimbals that allow it.
[936.32] Curry: But it's normally like, you can correct it if it goes out as opposed to tracking it.
[942.48] Curry: Right.
[943.28] Frank: I feel like more useful would be like a lean.
[946.08] Frank: Yeah, yeah, that's what I was thinking.
[947.52] Stephen: If you're going to lean to one side, you naturally don't keep your head upright while you do it.
[951.6] Stephen: So I was wondering if that was a thing.
[953.6] Curry: I had a specific on one of my planes. I had this pan-tilt that was on,
[958.96] Curry: like the tilt bit was on a sort of more of a stick, so you could turn and you could look
[964.32] Curry: over the plane, which is quite nice, to sort of look over the fuselage and see what was down there.
[968.96] Curry: Yeah, sounds good.
[971.04] Frank: I don't quite like that.
[974.32] Frank: But yes, I highly recommend XF head tracker.
[978.32] Frank: We did a lot of formation flying.
[982.0] Frank: Well, we also did a lot of battling.
[985.28] Frank: But we did a load of formation flying after Western Park.
[989.04] Frank: I hung around for a couple of days doing some formation flying with them.
[996.48] Frank: Western Park, we hung around so that the racing this time was not run by VDRA.
[1007.2] Frank: It was run by the B-A-D-R-A.
[1010.32] Frank: Excuse me, what's the difference?
[1012.64] Frank: So B-D-R-A is the British Drone Racing Association.
[1016.72] Koel: I think I know the answer to this.
[1018.8] Frank: And then there's the British, oh, it's not B-A-D-R-A, it's B-A-D-S-A,
[1025.6] Frank: because it's the British Army Drone Sports Association.
[1029.6] Frank: We're running the drone racing at Western Park this year.
[1033.76] Frank: So Western Park had told the B-D-R-A that if they wanted to do the racing there,
[1041.12] Frank: I think they were going to charge them basically the square footage
[1044.88] Frank: that they would charge for like a stall, like a shop.
[1049.84] Frank: And the B-D-R-A went, well, we make 500 quid in a good weekend.
[1055.28] Frank: So no, politely or not, depending on how they felt at the time.
[1062.4] Frank: So Carl Ease, who, I mean, we've flown with for like 10 years at this point.
[1074.8] Frank: We've crossed paths at various events.
[1082.16] Frank: He was pushing for the Army to get involved in FPV stuff 10 years ago.
[1089.44] Frank: And he was saying he got phone calls last year saying,
[1094.88] Frank: oh, we heard you might know something about FPV.
[1098.96] Frank: He was like, yes.
[1101.92] Frank: We've seen a big dossier written about FPV and how it applies to Army stuff.
[1108.64] Frank: Do you know who wrote it?
[1109.6] Frank: And he was like, yes, I wrote it.
[1113.04] Jack: You're speaking to it.
[1114.88] Frank: Yeah, exactly.
[1115.84] Frank: So he's sort of been tapped on the shoulder to get some FPV stuff going in the British Army.
[1123.04] Frank: And so he's been working that up and setting up events and things.
[1129.84] Frank: And then they've got the British Army Joint Sports Association
[1134.72] Frank: generally doing sort of military sports events.
[1140.56] Frank: So they've got, you know, they rugby, they're football and drone racing,
[1147.28] Frank: sort of as that sort of league.
[1149.44] Frank: And then he's, he heard that, yeah, there wasn't going to be drone racing at Western Park.
[1155.92] Frank: And he was like, well, we can't have that.
[1159.28] Frank: We'll take it on.
[1161.04] Frank: So they took it on as a bit of a test for how they can do
[1167.28] Frank: more sort of public engagement through drone racing.
[1172.4] Stephen: I heard that we're now apparently entering into some drone manufacturing agreement with Ukraine.
[1180.53] Frank: I'm not surprised.
[1182.21] Frank: I mean, we've definitely, or the UK government has definitely put aside some
[1189.89] Frank: huge sum of money to build lots of FPV drones.
[1195.49] Koel: I'll cover the first, I'm not sure.
[1196.93] Koel: Haven't we all?
[1200.77] Frank: Yeah, exactly.
[1204.29] Frank: Yeah, it was very interesting hearing about kind of how he's been trying to build that up and
[1213.73] Frank: maybe there'll be more of these sorts of events where it's kind of army run, but public racing.
[1221.09] Stephen: Well, it's great engagement, certainly.
[1223.33] Stephen: How do you think the army organization compares to bodies like BDRA?
[1228.29] Stephen: How does the approach differ?
[1231.73] Frank: So there's a lot of rules about what they're allowed to do.
[1237.33] Frank: So for ages, he wasn't able to use the British army name at all.
[1243.49] Frank: And he managed to convince them to have these different standards for sports in the military.
[1250.05] Frank: And so he got it onto this first run where he's allowed to use the name.
[1254.85] Frank: He's not allowed to get sponsorship.
[1257.01] Frank: He's not allowed to, he's very limited in what he's allowed to do.
[1264.29] Frank: So he's sort of a bit hemmed in a bit, a bit of a challenge.
[1272.45] Jack: Very nice, shiny stickers.
[1273.89] Jack: And that's all I ever could get out of him.
[1277.01] Jack: And it was almost like he gave me some sort of challenge coin where he's like,
[1282.93] Jack: you're not supposed to have this, but here.
[1286.77] Stephen: In terms of the racing, is it set up along the same lines or is it very different?
[1291.65] Stephen: How does that look?
[1292.85] Frank: Yeah.
[1293.25] Frank: I mean, the biggest thing is, or was from, from my perspective was there, I mean,
[1301.73] Frank: they have some very nice gates and kits and they have some nice marquees and it's all netted off
[1308.37] Frank: and it all looks very good.
[1310.85] Frank: They've clearly not been used to building a track for public viewing.
[1316.93] Frank: So they hadn't really got it set up in a way that you can actually see any of the racing from
[1323.33] Frank: the public area.
[1324.37] Curry: Was it all in camouflage or something?
[1326.05] Frank: They just covered it with a netting.
[1328.29] Frank: Well, no, it's the sort of gazebos that the races and race control are in
[1335.25] Frank: were all netted off and between the public area and the track.
[1341.01] Frank: So they were sort of blocking the view a bit, a bit awkward.
[1347.73] Frank: Yeah, that's why they were doing this as a bit of a dry run.
[1353.97] Frank: Yeah, exactly.
[1355.33] Frank: But, you know, as all the normal racing gear seemed to be running normally, it was, it felt,
[1363.25] Frank: I don't know whether it's because it was sort of a mix of public and army people.
[1368.61] Frank: I mean, there's also like navy people there as well.
[1371.97] Frank: And they were trying to get air force, but I don't know whether they're just
[1376.45] Frank: turning their nose up at it or what.
[1379.09] Stephen: Unless the drones get a lot larger, they're probably not going to be interested, I guess.
[1383.41] Frank: Yeah, exactly.
[1384.93] Frank: But yeah, it did not feel as slick as other big racing events that I have been to.
[1396.37] Frank: It felt, there was a fair old gap between each race.
[1401.41] Frank: They were having to repeatedly call people out over the PA to be like,
[1405.65] Frank: come on, it's your time to race.
[1407.49] Frank: We're waiting for you.
[1408.77] Frank: Which I feel like was very retro.
[1411.09] Frank: It took me back to 2015 racing.
[1415.09] Frank: Yeah, when no one really knew what they were doing.
[1418.53] Stephen: And last year went up when the first lap was completed.
[1424.05] Frank: Yeah, I mean, the racing was better than that.
[1427.89] Frank: The flying was very quick.
[1431.81] Frank: It's not like we've got a chance again, but it's, yeah.
[1437.33] Frank: I'll say that.
[1438.05] Frank: So yeah, it was just the sort of the transition from round to round.
[1447.89] Frank: It might also be because there wasn't so many rounds.
[1450.77] Frank: So it was back round to them quite quickly.
[1453.97] Frank: So maybe they don't have as much time as they might be used to if it was a full race to charge,
[1461.97] Frank: get a new pack, tweak any settings, make any repairs.
[1466.21] Frank: And so that's why maybe that's why it was a change.
[1469.57] Frank: Because it was all a bit last minute as well.
[1471.97] Frank: So Carl was saying it sort of it was it was fairly last minute that he heard
[1477.89] Frank: that Western Park wasn't going to have any drone racing.
[1480.05] Frank: And so he stepped in and then he's got all these other events.
[1483.57] Frank: And so it was even last a minute to actually get everything there and organize it.
[1490.21] Frank: And, you know, it just it seemed like he's got a lot on his plate.
[1495.25] Frank: And yeah, it was it was all a bit a bit last minute to actually get the event going.
[1503.57] Frank: But yeah, I'm glad to make sure that there stays an FPV presence at Western Park,
[1510.45] Frank: because that is the only FPV presence at Western Park.
[1515.73] Stephen: Well done.
[1517.17] Stephen: Yeah.
[1518.29] Stephen: Well, hopefully it goes from strength to strength and they can build on this because it's been nice
[1522.69] Stephen: to have a few more organizing bodies behind the action, a bit more money going into the sport.
[1528.29] Frank: Yeah.
[1528.61] Stephen: Large.
[1529.65] Frank: Yeah, it definitely sounds like there's a potential for a bit more money to go into the sport.
[1534.77] Frank: If he continues to get this up the up the ranking of of a few more pegs of what he's allowed to do
[1542.85] Frank: with the British Army name on it.
[1545.25] Stephen: Probably a great way of getting some, you know, more that nerdy individuals leaning
[1551.73] Stephen: towards that side of careers, I guess, if there is a career in building things out of
[1555.97] Stephen: electronics in the army, rather than just running around assault courses.
[1563.17] Frank: Carl was also saying one of his biggest challenges is convincing the generals that
[1569.65] Frank: FPV drones aren't going to be completely automated next week.
[1574.05] Stephen: Yeah, fire control isn't really something you should trust to a computer unless you have no
[1580.05] Stephen: regard for any sort of public image.
[1583.81] Frank: Apparently, what the general is really like is a box that you can hand a soldier with a big
[1589.41] Frank: button on it and the soldier just goes and puts the box in the right place and presses the button
[1593.57] Frank: and runs away. That's what they really like.
[1596.61] Frank: Everyone dies.
[1599.25] Frank: Having the system where you have to train someone to build it and then operate it and repair it
[1606.13] Frank: and fly it. And then that's even before you've actually got them to do anything sort of tactical
[1611.33] Frank: strategic with it.
[1612.29] Stephen: How do the rest of their munitions work exactly, like in terms of rifles and vehicles?
[1618.37] Stephen: Are those all just you fall asleep, that's it?
[1622.85] Frank: Yeah, just point at enemy press button.
[1626.37] Stephen: So you never service the rifles. That's impressive.
[1629.57] Frank: It's more about that you have to keep training them, right?
[1634.21] Frank: So it's not like you've learned to fly an FPV drone and that's it.
[1639.57] Frank: You can leave it and come back to it three years later.
[1642.13] Stephen: Yeah, because once you've learned to fire a rifle, you never practice it.
[1647.33] Frank: Yeah, exactly.
[1649.01] Frank: So that makes sense, that makes sense.
[1650.69] Jack: Practice at the enemy.
[1651.49] Frank: But it's not, you know, rifles haven't changed too dramatically in the past few decades.
[1662.26] Stephen: They've changed quite dramatically in the last 200 years.
[1665.54] Frank: Yes, that's generally a bit longer than the career of an army soldier, right?
[1671.78] Stephen: Well, compare what happened from 1900 to, say, 1940.
[1678.82] Stephen: And the First World War, it was de rigueur to approach the battlefield on your horse.
[1683.7] Stephen: Yeah, that didn't last so long.
[1685.54] Stephen: So, you know, changes do happen.
[1687.22] Stephen: And the ones that historically in this country have been really bad at dealing with them have
[1692.18] Stephen: been the generals, because they thought that you should do things like their granddad did.
[1697.22] Frank: Five in the chat says you never forget how to strip and fire a rifle.
[1701.94] Frank: There you go.
[1703.54] Frank: There you go.
[1704.9] Frank: That's the skills I think that they're after is the skills that you
[1708.1] Frank: have and then can continue to have without too much.
[1716.5] Jack: Like riding horses in a professional development.
[1718.9] Jack: Very useful.
[1719.7] Jack: This is your gun and this is a fun.
[1724.74] Frank: This episode was recorded in front of a live online audience,
[1727.94] Frank: downloaded and edited to make sense when it played audio only,
[1731.46] Frank: censored to please the iTunes people, hosted on the internet,
[1734.34] Frank: forwarded through to your podcast provider, downloaded, playing on your device,
[1738.02] Frank: and is now playing in your ears.
[1739.94] Frank: All thanks to our Patreons.
[1742.02] Frank: Consider joining them and you'll also get other online benefits.
[1745.46] Frank: Find out more at patreon.com.
[1747.7] Frank: Pause slash.
[1748.5] Frank: Let's drone out.
[1750.66] Jack: Speaking of mentally challenged.
[1756.02] Jack: Me and Curry were flying tricopters.
[1759.62] Jack: Tricopter.
[1761.62] Jack: Tricopter, yes.
[1763.94] Curry: We had a good time.
[1764.9] Curry: Me and Jack decided we'd meet up on the hottest day of the year in a field with zero shade,
[1772.5] Curry: just so we could see what happened if we melted.
[1776.58] Curry: And Jack almost passed out on the walk there with 20, a couple hundred meters.
[1781.14] Curry: But yeah, it was quite good fun, wasn't it?
[1784.1] Curry: We did some flying and we did some crashing and we did.
[1788.34] Curry: You fly this drone, I fly that drone.
[1790.5] Curry: So Jack got to check out what Open IPC was like.
[1794.42] Curry: And I got to check out what Kiss Ultra was like.
[1797.78] Jack: And how did you find it?
[1801.3] Curry: I found it very nice, very smooth, very easy to fly.
[1807.3] Curry: Jack's rates weren't crazy.
[1809.3] Curry: It had an OSD.
[1812.66] Curry: I was led to believe did not exist.
[1815.78] Curry: So it's all very positive from that.
[1817.38] Curry: And then Jack told me how much all the bits were.
[1819.7] Curry: And I was like, I don't know, though.
[1822.5] Jack: You don't have to buy it all at once.
[1825.54] Koel: Wait, you were led to believe that there's no OSD on Kiss Ultra?
[1830.66] Curry: On the original Kiss stuff, you had to buy a separate board, didn't you?
[1835.3] Koel: Legacy stuff, yeah.
[1839.89] Curry: So yeah, it was very nice.
[1841.01] Curry: In curry, you've been doing this for a while.
[1842.85] Curry: But it was like, everything was like 100 quid.
[1847.81] Curry: So the flight controller was like 95 quid.
[1850.45] Curry: And the ESC board was about 80.
[1852.93] Curry: And the motors were about 100.
[1854.61] Curry: And the apex frame was about 100.
[1856.85] Curry: And that's without thinking about putting a VTX and a camera on it and stuff.
[1860.85] Curry: It was like, oh, that's a bit spicy.
[1864.77] Curry: Be nice if it was cheaper.
[1867.65] Curry: I'm not sure it will gain mass, mass market at that price.
[1870.53] Curry: But it was very nice.
[1871.81] Curry: And you said there was no fiddling about with filters or tunes and stuff.
[1877.25] Curry: It pretty much just, boom.
[1879.65] Stephen: No, you just asked, crunk nicely.
[1881.49] Stephen: And if you don't get banned from their Discord, then they'll get set it up.
[1886.37] Koel: Yeah, that's a past.
[1889.97] Jack: Oh, wow.
[1890.77] Jack: So how does that happen now?
[1892.85] Koel: Yeah, people talk to each other a little bit back through the month.
[1896.45] Koel: Yeah, you put your drone in, you go into the GUI,
[1899.89] Koel: you press default preset, and your quad fly is amazing.
[1903.97] Koel: And that's it.
[1906.37] Stephen: So they haven't got a Discord anymore.
[1907.73] Stephen: They just banned everyone.
[1909.41] Stephen: No, it was still a Discord.
[1911.49] Stephen: It was inevitable at the rate that people were getting banned.
[1913.97] Stephen: Like, sooner or later, it would just be crunk.
[1917.97] Koel: I've never been banned.
[1921.17] Jack: I'm also wearing a t-shirt, so you're part of the world.
[1923.17] Jack: I get in trouble a lot anyway, and shouted out a lot.
[1927.65] Jack: So, I mean, all you really need is the flight controller.
[1932.69] Jack: Because you can use B-I-L-E-S-E's.
[1936.13] Jack: The real sort of magic and nicety is the flight controller.
[1940.61] Jack: And you can mount it on any quad that's 30 by 30.
[1945.33] Jack: If you need 20 by 20, you can just order a mini.
[1949.33] Jack: So, you know, it is...
[1950.93] Jack: It really is a hundred bucks.
[1953.09] Jack: Yeah, maybe that's what I should have done is let Curry a mini
[1957.81] Jack: because he's too busy trying to wedge 30 by 30 in a 20 by 20 rhyme.
[1963.25] Jack: I do do that.
[1964.61] Jack: It's true.
[1965.09] Stephen: It's made a massive 3D print and then all wobble around, but it's fine.
[1969.09] Jack: It's fine.
[1970.13] Jack: It's fine.
[1971.49] Jack: Open IPC, like you put it on, it's lovely.
[1976.13] Jack: It's lovely and clear.
[1977.89] Jack: When you start flying with it, it's a little blurry and very choppy.
[1983.57] Jack: But I think it will probably be a bit better
[1986.53] Jack: if Curry updates it.
[1989.57] Curry: Well, yeah, I haven't updated it for a while and things do move quite quickly.
[1996.13] Curry: Promising, though.
[1997.17] Curry: I kind of share your thing about it.
[1999.09] Curry: It does tend to be a little bit jerky, which is what I kind of think as well.
[2005.73] Koel: What do you think, Ricky?
[2006.53] Koel: Is it like stuttery or like...
[2009.41] Stephen: Yeah, it just doesn't update.
[2010.93] Stephen: Yeah, it like holds onto a frame or weave it too long.
[2014.69] Stephen: So you kind of move around and go, can I have another frame, please?
[2018.77] Jack: Yeah, that's a bit annoying.
[2020.37] Jack: But no artifacting like HD0.
[2028.85] Koel: Like breakup stuff, you mean?
[2030.37] Koel: Like the...
[2031.09] Jack: Well, yeah, the weird like glitchiness.
[2033.25] Jack: Yeah.
[2037.49] Jack: That's like the analog days, the HD0.
[2041.65] Jack: Yeah, it's analog plus, but it is pretty clear.
[2045.33] Curry: Yeah, this is me flying Kaceltra, which felt very smooth, very nice.
[2055.57] Curry: And I appreciated the very much lack of any hint of any prop wash or anything,
[2062.69] Curry: which is why I kept doing these split S's and go, oh, that's nice.
[2067.89] Jack: And there was wind.
[2069.17] Jack: There was wind.
[2070.21] Curry: It was a funny crosswind sort of thing, wasn't it?
[2073.41] Curry: It was a little bit on the weird side from that point of view.
[2077.49] Curry: But yeah, I liked it.
[2078.37] Curry: And the fact that Jack could stand on his apex frame without it breaking.
[2084.13] Curry: Bold move.
[2085.41] Curry: Very bold.
[2086.05] Curry: It made me cringe and got very scared.
[2088.37] Stephen: Wait, what?
[2088.93] Stephen: What are we talking about?
[2089.49] Stephen: What's happening here?
[2090.93] Stephen: What?
[2091.25] Stephen: Jack's standing on frames to make a point.
[2094.21] Stephen: He puts his feet where his mouth is.
[2098.93] Stephen: Really?
[2100.13] Jack: Yeah.
[2100.61] Jack: Have you never seen that?
[2103.81] Jack: Yeah, I stand on top of my drone.
[2107.09] Jack: Yeah.
[2107.49] Jack: Stand on it.
[2108.21] Jack: I'm like, yeah, I'll look because it's just like, I mean, the alien was good,
[2116.21] Jack: but I would have never have trusted that to the alien.
[2119.49] Jack: And the alien got moving to the apex from the alien.
[2124.05] Jack: Like the apex makes the alien seem like a bus.
[2127.89] Koel: Oh, yeah.
[2128.61] Jack: Alien is ginormous.
[2130.53] Stephen: Yeah.
[2131.17] Stephen: It's okay so long as you kind of just go straight up and down though, isn't it?
[2135.81] Stephen: It's like, you really get into trouble as if the standoffs get pushed slightly sideways
[2140.69] Jack: while that happens, then like, yeah, I don't know, though, because I've got the front cage thing.
[2147.41] Jack: So that kind of works.
[2148.93] Koel: So what gave you the process to do that?
[2151.33] Koel: Did you see someone else stand on the apex and say, oh, if they can do it, I can do it.
[2154.61] Koel: You're like, no, I just wondered.
[2156.37] Jack: I thought it was myself.
[2158.21] Jack: I think this seems really solid.
[2161.97] Jack: And, you know, I tried like flexing it.
[2164.13] Stephen: And I've got bits of like eight frames under my bed somewhere at home.
[2168.29] Stephen: Let's give this a go.
[2170.29] Koel: I just saw impulse and marketing ploy right there.
[2174.93] Jack: Yeah, I just thought I wonder if it can, you know, and when I first built it and I did it,
[2180.77] Jack: and it held it and I was like,
[2185.09] Koel: That's crazy.
[2186.45] Koel: I'd be too scared to break my electronics on the inside.
[2190.05] Koel: Like, if it's a frame or a part, that's fine.
[2191.97] Stephen: But like, damn, you've got to be sure you've tightened all of those screws.
[2199.01] Stephen: We're going to put screws on the flight controller stack, Jack.
[2204.13] Curry: He did it more than once because I wasn't filming the first time.
[2206.93] Curry: And he's like, did you just stand on that?
[2209.09] Curry: Yeah, it's like, who again?
[2210.53] Jack: I do.
[2217.01] Jack: I'd like to hope that, you know, I build decent things and buy decent electronics.
[2223.73] Jack: What what it was was I was flying a modified ZMR 250 with like,
[2232.13] Jack: um,
[2233.49] Jack: Thug arms.
[2235.09] Jack: And like, I bought better standoff.
[2237.09] Jack: So rare.
[2238.29] Jack: And it was it was pretty good, but that he just did not take my beginner flying.
[2246.37] Jack: But eventually, I crashed and then I snapped.
[2253.34] Jack: And then from that moment on, I was just like,
[2258.32] Jack: I need something decent that can put up with I kind of
[2262.64] Jack: got a bit sick of breaking stuff and having to constantly repair stuff.
[2268.16] Jack: It was like with the historical
[2272.08] Jack: quad stuff.
[2272.96] Jack: I mean, you saw that video where me, Tony and Dan and Oscar were flying together.
[2279.12] Jack: And I was just like, it's just crash after crash after crash of, you know, I just weren't
[2286.48] Jack: I was so behind those guys like the flying skill.
[2292.56] Jack: You know, that I was just like, well, then once I started working at like Radio C,
[2298.8] Jack: it was just like, I don't have any more time or patience to, you know, then have to work
[2307.52] Jack: on my own quad.
[2309.28] Jack: So I was like, I need something decent.
[2313.04] Jack: I'll just
[2315.04] Koel: Well, historical things though, Jack, so Jack and I have been going taking trips
[2320.48] Koel: down memory lane over on the Patreon, where we do bonus podcasts.
[2326.24] Koel: And I think how many in a row have we done now, two or three?
[2329.44] Koel: Where we're on number five.
[2332.0] Koel: Oh, wow.
[2332.64] Koel: So you see what I remember.
[2334.16] Koel: So we're on number five blast from the past trip down memory lane.
[2337.6] Koel: Basically, the beginning of well, maybe you can explain it better,
[2341.84] Koel: because you're just kind of showing me things.
[2343.36] Koel: I'm just going along for the ride.
[2344.56] Jack: So no, carry on.
[2347.76] Jack: Come on.
[2348.64] Koel: Well, you're showing me stuff that's from at least 10 to 11 years ago, which is considered
[2355.44] Koel: almost like the beginning point of FPV.
[2358.32] Koel: And I'm getting caught up on it, because obviously, I've only been in the hobby for a couple of
[2362.8] Koel: years now.
[2363.44] Koel: So yeah, if anybody wants to join us, you know, seeing the fun beginnings, hit us up
[2371.52] Koel: on Patreon, and come hang out with us on our bonus pods.
[2375.36] Jack: Yeah, I really look forward to them.
[2378.8] Jack: I've got, you know, I'm like, you know, they're like, so fun to do.
[2385.44] Jack: Because like, even when I joined, yes, I do have a premiere.
[2389.92] Jack: So I was flying the tricopter and Currie was chasing me with an avada.
[2398.24] Jack: So I've edited it with the help of Carl.
[2401.44] Jack: Thank you, Carl.
[2402.72] Jack: No, don't lie.
[2405.44] Jack: It's Currie's footage.
[2406.96] Jack: Thank you, Currie, for providing me something to upload that I'm not ashamed of.
[2411.6] Jack: It's got so bad that I am now uploading footage that I did not film.
[2418.0] Koel: And so wait, what is this premiere?
[2419.68] Koel: And where do we find it?
[2420.96] Koel: And what's it all about?
[2423.28] Jack: So it's in roughly half an hour.
[2426.48] Jack: So 15 minutes after the show, we can head over.
[2432.64] Jack: The premiere link is in the video description.
[2438.0] Jack: So if you want to head over there or go to Bright Until I Fly on YouTube, you can tune on in.
[2445.36] Jack: Unfortunately, towards the end, Currie has repaired my horrible DVR.
[2452.88] Jack: We had a bit of an incident with the tricopter.
[2455.52] Curry: We should just say, before we get to the incident with the tricopter,
[2458.32] Curry: one of the most interesting things is because we swap radios to do things.
[2463.84] Curry: And I said to Jack, what did the switches do?
[2466.32] Curry: And he said, oh, I was like, don't worry about that, Mike.
[2469.84] Curry: You won't need them.
[2470.8] Curry: That's the only one that does anything.
[2472.8] Curry: He's like, yeah, I said, but it's in the wrong place.
[2474.88] Curry: That's a mode switch.
[2477.52] Curry: The wrong finger is like it's up here instead of over here.
[2481.76] Curry: And I have every switch doing something.
[2485.84] Curry: And Jack's got arm.
[2487.52] Curry: You might as well just get this radio with this one switch.
[2490.32] Curry: Two switches for his other quad, which has RTH.
[2494.64] Curry: I could not get the hang of landing with it because air mode's on as well.
[2498.96] Curry: And I normally turn air mode off and come in.
[2501.04] Curry: I do a lot.
[2501.76] Curry: So I have to try and think about where my finger is and come down
[2506.24] Curry: and somehow get in the wrong switch every time.
[2508.64] Curry: Did you manage to figure out his idle up settings?
[2512.16] Curry: It wasn't idle up.
[2513.36] Curry: It was just an air mode-y thing, wasn't it?
[2515.28] Stephen: Oh, yeah, the only reason you didn't have to figure out
[2517.84] Stephen: is because you didn't find it clearly.
[2519.28] Stephen: Because there will be a switch somewhere that just turns it into a potato.
[2525.6] Jack: It's on the arm switch.
[2527.92] Jack: That's what he's saying.
[2529.04] Jack: That's all there is.
[2530.32] Jack: It's off idle up or potato mode and then go.
[2538.16] Jack: That's it.
[2539.68] Curry: That one all the way down, go.
[2541.68] Curry: That one all the way up, stop.
[2544.24] Curry: Stop and go.
[2547.44] Koel: Jack taught me that too, since he's the one who got me into this hobby.
[2551.04] Koel: I have a potato switch as well on most of my drones.
[2555.28] Koel: Not my new drone though, which is probably done.
[2559.04] Jack: He keeps the Riff Raff out, or Steven, as I like to call it.
[2565.12] Stephen: Or just make sure that every now and then the Riff Raff
[2568.08] Stephen: forces you to buy another arm or two.
[2570.64] Curry: Yes, that's good.
[2573.36] Curry: There you are.
[2574.08] Curry: If you open the big money.
[2575.68] Curry: No, it's too shiny.
[2576.56] Curry: He hasn't opened it yet, surely.
[2578.56] Curry: Still see it.
[2580.4] Koel: I'm not opening it now.
[2583.04] Koel: I have some plans, but I've gotten rid of the entries.
[2588.32] Koel: I've gotten the refund.
[2590.16] Koel: I've gotten these guys now, or girls, or whatever they identify as.
[2595.04] Koel: And I think we've shown this before that my drone was ready.
[2602.48] Koel: Well, my drone was not ready because the XT60, I had it on a straight line like this.
[2609.04] Koel: It was yoinked up and it was just sitting way above the frame.
[2612.88] Koel: And even now, it's still a little higher than I would want.
[2616.08] Koel: But I've wrangled it down, did some zip ties, and now it's a little nicer.
[2622.96] Koel: I still haven't made it yet, but she is ready with her ridiculous antennas all over the place.
[2636.4] Jack: You should have them both at the front one on each arm.
[2641.04] Curry: Really?
[2641.68] Curry: It would be more aesthetically pleasing.
[2647.6] Koel: I don't care about aesthetics on the drone.
[2649.52] Koel: I used to.
[2650.24] Koel: I used to care like, oh, I want my drone to look so good.
[2654.72] Koel: And I'm like, it doesn't matter how the drone looks.
[2658.24] Jack: I like Currie found new beaterfly E LRS tells you what antenna you're connected to.
[2666.16] Curry: Oh, really?
[2667.2] Curry: Yeah, I've never seen that before.
[2668.72] Curry: It's not apparently a new feature.
[2671.2] Curry: It's just like it'll actually seen it.
[2674.88] Curry: I'm sure I've been using diversity receivers before.
[2677.12] Curry: And certainly, I've got this DVM value with colon one or two after it,
[2681.2] Curry: which is getting my antenna.
[2683.6] Curry: Yeah, yeah.
[2684.48] Stephen: Yeah, crossfire doesn't tell you.
[2685.68] Stephen: It's the radio.
[2686.56] Stephen: It tells you which radio chip the signal is coming from.
[2689.04] Stephen: Yeah.
[2689.44] Stephen: Does it follow Q as well?
[2690.8] Stephen: It's a beaterfly thing, apparently.
[2692.64] Stephen: But we should talk about Jack's tricopter.
[2695.2] Stephen: It's an E LRS thing.
[2696.48] Stephen: It's the telemetry that comes from the receiver itself.
[2700.4] Stephen: It gives you a telemetry value for each of the radios inside the receiver.
[2704.4] Curry: So if it's a beaterfly, it decided to take the data and turn it into OSD.
[2712.64] Curry: Yes, Jack's tricopter is a very active flying situation,
[2720.0] Curry: where it does vaguely what you call 30% of the time.
[2724.32] Curry: And then you spend the rest of the time shouting and trying to wrestle it back in
[2729.12] Curry: the direction you wanted it to go in the first place.
[2731.84] Curry: And it was kind of interesting because it's like the farmer had literally gone out for us
[2737.76] Curry: and put in some cloud, the grass into these mounds of wrapped things for us to fly through.
[2747.52] Curry: I mean, you're trying to go in between two.
[2749.76] Curry: And the tricopter is like going this.
[2752.32] Curry: It's like, well, I'm even going to hit one or two of them.
[2754.4] Curry: We'll go through the middle.
[2755.36] Curry: I can't quite tell because it won't stay in a straight line.
[2759.52] Curry: And I did one flight on it okay.
[2762.88] Curry: And Jack did a flight on it okay, where I chased him.
[2765.04] Curry: And then he's like, I want to chase it.
[2766.96] Curry: So I was like, well, you fly my quad, and I'll fly your tricopter.
[2772.0] Curry: And I went around the corner and did this almighty waggle.
[2777.2] Curry: And then suddenly fell out this guy.
[2780.48] Curry: Have you got that footage, Jack, of the DVR?
[2783.52] Curry: Because that's when I exclaimed.
[2785.76] Curry: No, where did you send it?
[2788.8] Curry: I thought I sent it to you on the thing.
[2790.8] Curry: I can find it on mine, if you like.
[2796.64] Curry: It's possibly somewhere.
[2798.88] Curry: Hang on, let me see if I can find it.
[2801.36] Curry: We shall find it.
[2803.92] Jack: The Germans are making that.
[2807.04] Koel: Well, you're finding that.
[2809.44] Koel: I have something that I thought was interesting.
[2811.68] Koel: I don't know if you guys will find it interesting.
[2813.76] Koel: But check this out.
[2816.32] Koel: Did you guys see this Speedy Bee thing in the bottom?
[2822.8] Koel: Where they've got these new frame thing that's like a modular.
[2827.36] Koel: Modular 04.
[2828.56] Koel: You can just swap between the, like a cinewhip and a three inch or a five inch.
[2832.88] Stephen: I've seen a similar concept before.
[2834.56] Stephen: I can't remember what BTX it was for.
[2836.88] Stephen: But it wasn't quite as nicely done in like an aluminum frame as that.
[2843.12] Koel: Yeah, it's interesting, right?
[2845.12] Koel: I mean, I've never owned Speedy Bee.
[2847.12] Koel: I've never owned digital until now.
[2849.2] Koel: But it does seem interesting if you want to be able to have a cinewhip
[2852.48] Koel: and then go do some ripping.
[2853.76] Koel: But a buddy of mine in Taiwan, actually, he designed something similar himself
[2859.6] Koel: out of like 3D printed stuff.
[2861.44] Koel: And he just, you know, you don't have to have a million 04s or 03s.
[2865.68] Koel: You just swap it out as you need.
[2868.08] Koel: Yeah, seems like an interesting.
[2869.84] Frank: The flight test stuff with the flight test power pods.
[2877.6] Curry: Yeah, I've made you remember those.
[2879.68] Curry: All right, this is the DVR of the crash.
[2883.36] Curry: Flying.
[2886.48] Curry: Oh, that's not the bad bit.
[2887.76] Curry: This is quite smooth here.
[2891.36] Frank: What is going on there?
[2896.88] Koel: The tail is wagging the dog.
[2900.56] Koel: Oh, what happened?
[2905.36] Koel: Tricopters.
[2907.04] Curry: We think just happened all over the place.
[2909.04] Curry: We think it was a case of like the motor mount may have come off prematurely.
[2916.88] Curry: And because that wasn't that wasn't around the crash site.
[2920.88] Curry: Although, to be fair, I thought I had everything.
[2923.28] Curry: And Jack's like, where's the motor mount?
[2924.64] Curry: I was like, I didn't see it.
[2926.4] Curry: I thought I had.
[2928.16] Curry: There's nothing else there.
[2929.92] Curry: But then Jack's point of view of it from flying quad.
[2934.16] Curry: Have you have you got that, Jack?
[2935.76] Curry: Do you want to show what?
[2937.28] Jack: No, no, I don't know where you send it to me.
[2940.72] Curry: Oh, but that was your DVR.
[2942.4] Curry: I was talking about the horrible thing.
[2946.16] Jack: Yeah, you were repairing it.
[2947.92] Jack: You were colorizing it.
[2949.12] Jack: Why would I have it?
[2950.32] Curry: Oh, well, I thought you had the one that we could show how it looks beforehand.
[2954.16] Jack: Oh, you want this.
[2956.32] Jack: Yeah, I've got this one.
[2958.56] Jack: And I'll play I'll play the version.
[2962.64] Curry: And then I'll show what we've got that we've managed to get to.
[2967.04] Curry: Because if you've ever I don't know if it's a rapid fire thing or just a fat shark thing.
[2972.56] Curry: But if you're if you've got the DVR running, and you're tuned into like a power camera on
[2977.84] Curry: NTSC camera, and then you go to another channel, and it's on the other system.
[2982.64] Curry: So if you're going to power to NTSC, it will bugger up the video.
[2988.0] Curry: In in a way, that's quite quite nasty.
[2992.4] Jack: So that is so this is Currys my feed.
[2996.96] Curry: But Currys flying the tricopter tricopter and then you move over to my quad you were flying.
[3003.12] Jack: Yeah, and this is like, I hear arm but it says it's disarmed.
[3008.88] Jack: So yeah, I move over to Currys chat.
[3015.23] Jack: By Currys quad, he's got NTSC.
[3019.07] Jack: And it looks like complete garbage.
[3022.35] Jack: It's curry nicely picking me up.
[3027.07] Jack: So we've got a bit of NTSC power formatting problems.
[3034.14] Jack: Fun.
[3035.34] Koel: That's so fun.
[3039.02] Koel: Well, it is strange, Jack, you do have some of your quads cameras in power.
[3044.46] Koel: And then this one seems to be an NTSC.
[3048.3] Curry: That's Currys isn't it?
[3050.14] Curry: How is it?
[3051.9] Curry: Yeah, that's that's my one.
[3053.18] Curry: But this is what we've spent all day doing.
[3056.3] Curry: Goggles maybe in power.
[3058.38] Curry: We've taken the footage.
[3061.1] Curry: And I managed to edit the screens together.
[3064.06] Curry: And then using Photoshop, we managed to use AI to colorize it back.
[3069.5] Curry: Wow.
[3070.14] Curry: It's got pretty good.
[3071.58] Curry: I think it's good.
[3073.02] Curry: It's no worse than the analog camera.
[3074.86] Curry: There's a couple of weird things.
[3077.58] Curry: Sometimes the the clouds are especially dramatic and yellow and stuff.
[3083.66] Curry: And there's a few colors moving around.
[3085.66] Curry: But DVR footage is pretty good.
[3087.42] Curry: Wow.
[3088.22] Curry: So we kind of got about I don't think the props the right color.
[3092.46] Curry: But we've we've got we've basically captured the Oh, that's it on the floor.
[3097.82] Curry: We've captured the the crash of it.
[3100.54] Curry: And we've got something that's usable again, which is quite nice to have.
[3106.14] Curry: This is blown me away.
[3108.06] Curry: It's good magic.
[3111.82] Curry: Magic stuff.
[3113.82] Curry: It did take a procs once we find out how to do it.
[3118.86] Curry: About three and a half hours of like CPU to my new Macbook Pro.
[3127.74] Curry: The standard definition video.
[3129.82] Curry: Yeah.
[3131.26] Curry: I like the fact that it's like, Jack says, Yeah, I got quite close.
[3134.46] Curry: It's like, Hang on, you were flying my quad.
[3135.82] Curry: What are you doing?
[3137.66] Koel: You can see the wobble.
[3139.26] Curry: That's crazy wobble.
[3141.58] Curry: And then the let's just crash to the ground instantly.
[3148.78] Curry: It's just gone.
[3150.94] Curry: That's annoying.
[3153.26] Curry: But we got the footage back, which is the main thing.
[3155.58] Curry: That's pretty cool.
[3156.38] Curry: Yeah, a little doctoring little little magic.
[3159.26] Curry: Yeah.
[3160.46] Curry: Wow.
[3160.7] Curry: Magic stuff.
[3161.34] Curry: But yeah, good fun.
[3162.06] Curry: So I will travel to Jack's next time.
[3165.1] Curry: And hopefully it won't be quite as hot, because we almost died.
[3168.7] Curry: Be fair.
[3170.94] Curry: Yeah, that was horrendous.
[3173.66] Curry: It was quite, quite warm.
[3175.82] Frank: Everything's been freezing.
[3176.7] Frank: Doesn't mean I actually have to get around to sourcing out the baby try.
[3182.46] Curry: The what do you want?
[3184.3] Frank: Baby try.
[3185.18] Frank: The car seats for a baby tripod.
[3187.9] Curry: Yeah, yeah.
[3190.62] Curry: They almost have got mine going.
[3192.54] Curry: But like my my KK2, which is on with 50 bits of weird sticky pads, has come off.
[3199.74] Curry: And I showed it to him.
[3202.3] Curry: It's it's a bit of a mess.
[3203.58] Curry: It contains like 100 earplugs.
[3205.9] Curry: And it's just it's just very strange.
[3210.46] Curry: But it flies about as good as Jack Swans does, to be fair.
[3213.82] Curry: I don't know what David Winderstil was doing and what black magic he was using to get
[3221.18] Curry: really quite nice looking stuff from his dry copters.
[3225.66] Jack: I think he wasn't flying as much of a twat as we are.
[3231.42] Curry: Yeah, but he goes reasonably quick, reasonably far.
[3237.02] Curry: And he does swish his turns.
[3239.82] Jack: I'm I am bribing him with I'm like, I've got a video game.
[3245.98] Jack: You can have it, but I'm only going to give it to you a person.
[3249.5] Jack: So he might get a David at some point.
[3252.46] Curry: Does he have any tricopter bits left he can bring over?
[3256.3] Curry: I have to get them made by PCB way or something.
[3260.99] Curry: He's got the blueprints.
[3262.03] Curry: Yeah, I want I want to do the long range one out of a material that isn't like 10 millimeter pine
[3270.51] Curry: board from B&Q, because it might not be the strongest material.
[3274.75] Jack: Yeah, get get our maternal PCB way to make it.
[3278.83] Jack: It's just it's just a shame because like obviously all his all his builds and
[3283.31] Jack: setups are all done like that.
[3286.19] Jack: Everything kind of died past the F3.
[3291.31] Jack: So and Frank has the only supply of bluebird servos.
[3297.95] Curry: Do other digital servos not do the job?
[3301.71] Curry: Is Frank stockpiling them to sell for great profit later?
[3305.31] Frank: I bought a couple for a couple.
[3309.79] Curry: How many are we talking about?
[3312.75] Curry: Because Jack said you bought all of them.
[3315.31] Curry: I think it was literally two.
[3319.07] Frank: They've got a good service though.
[3320.91] Frank: I mean, yeah, they've got the feedback and wire.
[3325.47] Frank: That's the critical.
[3328.59] Stephen: Yeah, yeah, you can get sense of service though.
[3331.79] Stephen: I mean, I mean, this is a crashing all the time and shredding servos like I'll put in your basis.
[3338.99] Frank: This is like six years ago, right?
[3342.27] Frank: And you know, David was selling up like, yeah, I'll take your last stock.
[3348.59] Frank: I'm under no illusion that is not magical or anything.
[3351.63] Frank: It's just, yeah, I happen to have maybe hard to find.
[3354.67] Stephen: But in six years, I'm sure someone else has made something that's the same form factor.
[3359.23] Jack: Yeah, they're different size splines though, regard the servo-ness.
[3363.71] Jack: So just bluebirds are bigger.
[3366.19] Jack: So I've got another spare tilt, but I haven't got a servo that that would go into.
[3373.47] Curry: Imagine the amazingness.
[3375.87] Curry: Frank makes his tricopter fly.
[3378.51] Curry: You fix your one, I get my one.
[3381.71] Curry: Three tricopters all in one place.
[3384.67] Frank: That would be good.
[3385.39] Curry: And then we fly with Frisch G.
[3387.79] Curry: Just to make him comment.
[3388.59] Curry: And David Windestell.
[3390.27] Curry: Wow, that'll be five.
[3392.99] Jack: And then the world would implode or Russia will need this.
[3398.43] Jack: We'd reach critical ministers.
[3400.11] Curry: We'd reach critical tricopter mass.
[3402.67] Koel: Everybody would just catch on and everyone would ditch quads and go back to tricopters.
[3407.87] Stephen: Yes, yeah.
[3410.67] Stephen: Find a hipster and show them your tricopter and you'll start some.
[3414.75] Jack: I'm looking forward to, Cole, have a go with this.
[3421.15] Jack: This is out of control.
[3423.95] Jack: Yeah, you're right.
[3425.79] Jack: I'm not in control.
[3426.91] Jack: It's how we did it in the old days.
[3428.67] Curry: Just constantly like, fight it, fight it, bring it back.
[3432.43] Curry: Oh, it's falling out of the sky.
[3434.03] Curry: That sort of thing happened a lot.
[3435.63] Jack: You know, like the demented devil, like Annabelle Dole.
[3441.87] Jack: Imagine that jumped possession into an RC device.
[3448.19] Jack: That's what my tricopter is.
[3450.35] Jack: It just wants to kill and destroy.
[3454.19] Jack: Like it is, oh, f***ing hell.
[3458.43] Jack: Off-axis, don't.
[3461.95] Jack: You think you're being clever and it f***ing ain't.
[3466.27] Jack: It's not.
[3467.95] Jack: It's just like...
[3469.07] Stephen: Yeah, the trouble there is that the servo is going to weigh like almost as
[3472.51] Stephen: much as the Woop.
[3474.11] Stephen: It's going to be, even though the little servos are a bit big.
[3478.35] Curry: But Jack has the posh servo in his one that knows where it is on all the times.
[3483.95] Curry: And apparently it just said, whatever, I'm doing this.
[3487.47] Stephen: He knows where it is, but he crucially doesn't know where it wants to go.
[3491.31] Stephen: It just wants to kill.
[3492.91] Jack: So whatever you do, if you're listening to this, the link to my premiere
[3497.71] Jack: is in the description.
[3499.23] Jack: So once we're done, please head over there.
[3502.83] Jack: Hit the link.
[3504.35] Jack: You've been listening to Let Drone Out.
[3506.75] Jack: It is supported and sponsored by all our lovely Patreons.
[3511.15] Jack: If you want a bonus pod, it's there.
[3514.03] Jack: Sometimes we do it.
[3516.03] Jack: And being cold, going back through the history books, looking at old classic videos.
[3521.47] Jack: And we have finally got to the point where we're watching old
[3527.55] Jack: videos from like Tony and Dan Upton and Oscar.
[3532.83] Jack: Frank is yet to make an, no, Frank made an appearance.
[3537.47] Jack: Frank, me and Frank and Tony were at the East Grinstead thing with all the quads.
[3544.11] Koel: With the caution teeth.
[3547.87] Jack: Cole was like, who thought this was safe?
[3550.35] Jack: And I'm like, it weren't.
[3553.47] Frank: I don't think any of us thought this was safe.
[3555.63] Koel: No, I could have gone so badly.
[3558.91] Koel: Oh, it was so horrendous.
[3562.03] Koel: Yeah, well, no one died.
[3564.35] Frank: No, no zero.
[3566.99] Frank: I think it was there that I almost got attacked by a tricopter.
[3571.23] Frank: It attempted to go for me.
[3574.75] Curry: Who had a tricopter?
[3576.51] Curry: Seymour.

[3591.23] Jack: There is a motor sized dent in my feeling.
[3596.83] Stephen: For anyone who's considering this, please, please note that flight controllers are able
[3601.07] Stephen: to proper gyroscopically stabilize these days.
