Thank You! / letsdroneout #LetsDroneOut #fpv #FPVPodcast [0.0] Jack: Hello, and you're listening to Let's Drone Out, a special thank you to our lovely patrons [6.28] Jack: that help donate so that we can pay the editor to remove the swear words and silly things [11.36] Jack: we say. [13.0] Jack: Massive thank you to… [14.4] Jack: Carlos Campos! [16.0] Jack: Art Faulkner. [17.84] Frank: Sam Dahmer. [19.68] Frank: On with the show. [20.68] Stephen: Let's drone out now. [52.06] Jack: Hello, and you're listening to Let's Drone Out. [56.26] Jack: Tonight we were supposed to have Chris Rosser on, but it doesn't look like… [63.5] Jack: It might be me. [64.5] Jack: I might have dropped the ball because I didn't notice the reply in the LDO email to confirm [71.14] Jack: back, but he did select the date, so… [75.66] Stephen: And it looks like we needed to do a follow-up, and as the follow-up wasn't forthcoming, [80.78] Stephen: we have failed to grab Chris' attention, so it's probably us. [85.22] Jack: I think it's me. [88.22] Jack: I just completely forgot about it. [90.26] Jack: I've been very unwell, as you know, and kind of dropped the ball. [95.18] Jack: So don't blame Chris, it's probably me. [99.62] Jack: But anyway, we are joined by everyone's favourite, Kerry Kitten. [103.42] Jack: Hello! [105.42] Jack: The man with the must-have star, Steven. [107.22] Jack: Cheers. [108.22] Jack: And I'm brightened till I fly, and you're listening to Let's Drone Out. [112.3] Jack: How has everyone been? [115.3] Jack: Busy, busy, busy. [118.3] Jack: Not so bad. [119.3] Jack: Shishy. [120.3] Jack: Oi! [121.3] Jack: How has Kerry's got so many pets on the go? [124.46] Stephen: It's been really quiet until we start the show, it's like they know there's an awareness [129.3] Stephen: there. [130.3] Curry: My dog had to have an operation last Friday, and so I have been making sure she's not [137.58] Curry: jumping around and doing stuff so she doesn't rip her stitches, which is not easy. [142.86] Curry: So she's in with me at the moment because everyone else has gone out. [145.54] Curry: And basically, a mouse has farted in next door's garden, so let's set her off. [150.86] Stephen: Oh, God, here, tell me about it. [152.86] Stephen: Bob and mouse farting, I mean, yeah. [155.38] Stephen: Doesn't even need that. [156.38] Stephen: She's off solving the world's problems by shouting at them. [159.94] Jack: The old rats running around. [163.78] Curry: I sent Jack a picture early in the week of my cat breaking in into a whole pack of Dreamies [173.54] Curry: and then throwing them up later, which was nice of her. [177.22] Jack: No! [178.22] Curry: She ate so many, she vomited them back out again. [181.22] Jack: Oh, poor little sausage. [183.98] Jack: That's incorrect Dreamy use. [187.87] Jack: Yeah, not many. [188.87] Jack: I've had many, have I? [190.27] Stephen: Well, clearly, I'm hoping he found the maximum amount of Dreamies a cat should have inadvertently. [196.79] Stephen: Not half that. [197.79] Stephen: Yeah, my cats are just weird, so I don't have to worry too much about them eating cat snacks. [206.02] Stephen: They're too obsessed with eating everything else, basically. [208.9] Stephen: They'll just be out there trying to find some nice bread rolls or a bit like greasy broccoli [215.14] Stephen: and olive oil or something. [216.98] Stephen: Right on that. [217.98] Jack: So, Curry, you've bought a weird and wonderful device, I see. [222.66] Curry: I have bought a, what's it called, a like V&A, because I was getting confused about 868 antennas [230.74] Curry: and where they were tuned to. [232.46] Curry: And with one of these things, you can check the tuning, so if I can, I have to go to recall [239.98] Curry: that one. [240.98] Curry: And now I can see, looking at this pretty picture, there's a little marker where the [246.14] Curry: 868 mark is. [247.9] Curry: And what I found out is that some companies, gosh, which reflects you, isn't it? [252.14] Curry: Some companies tune 915, and others tune sort of around 900, so it's okay either side. [259.5] Curry: But without asking them or getting one of these, so you can see, it's quite hard. [263.82] Curry: You've got to do a bit of naming and shaming, mate. [266.06] Curry: I'm convinced there's going to be a dropdown on the website to make it feel good. [270.74] Curry: How these work. [271.74] Curry: And they're complicated, because I'm not an RF person. [274.98] Curry: I don't understand what all these graphs mostly are. [278.86] Curry: So I've been going through lots of tutorials, and I still don't understand. [281.74] Curry: And there's something called a Smith chart, which draws these weird circles and stuff. [286.86] Curry: And I was like, what the hell's that? [287.86] Curry: I'll show you one. [288.86] Curry: Someone can see if they can figure it out. [291.58] Curry: It's like, what the hell's that? [292.58] Curry: Nobody knows. [293.58] Jack: Is that for polarisation? [294.58] Curry: I don't know what it's that. [297.58] Curry: Number one is the fifth chart. [299.58] Curry: Actually, you can view this on a computer as well. [301.58] Curry: And that is now a weird circular thing that's gone funny. [306.26] Curry: Who knows? [307.26] Curry: You've got both of them overlaid. [309.98] Curry: Yeah, you can put multiple traces on at the same time, see? [315.74] Curry: Because I've got, I'll turn that one off. [319.82] Curry: Like, the yellow is SWR, and the blue is reflected as a DVM value. [327.74] Curry: So it tells me one particular signal is reflected or something. [331.42] Curry: So yeah, that's my fun thing. [335.42] Curry: Micro, no, like VNA, it's called. [338.02] Curry: Vector Network Analyzer, which used to be thousands and thousands of pounds. [343.22] Curry: But now you can do it at home. [346.06] Jack: Pretty cool. [347.06] Jack: Yeah. [348.06] Jack: We need to get Menis on again. [351.62] Jack: He'll teach us about that wonderful stuff. [353.9] Jack: That would be handy. [356.38] Jack: Has anybody been flying? [359.38] Jack: No, I've just been ragingly ill. [365.3] Stephen: I did build a network video recorder with a Raspberry Pi and a Google AI Accelerator. [372.94] Stephen: That's what I basically did this week. [375.14] Curry: Oh, that sounds fun. [378.5] Curry: I'm going to go out tomorrow and test some new batteries. [380.9] Curry: Do you want to see these batteries? [382.14] Curry: They're quite interesting. [384.02] Curry: I got here by Hobbyking, who said, can you have a look at some batteries? [387.74] Curry: They are high-voltage batteries. [389.26] Curry: I was like, oh, OK. [390.26] Curry: So I think in the middle ones. [392.82] Curry: Well, I've got like a one amp of an XT30 and a 1.5 amp with XT60, and then we went a bit [400.94] Curry: crazy. [401.94] Curry: Are they to be trusted? [402.94] Curry: Are Hobbyking still a good brand? [405.54] Curry: 6200 XT90. [408.26] Curry: And just to go really for it, tomorrow I will be flying with this 9500 milliamp hour high [414.22] Curry: voltage test battery. [416.66] Curry: That looks like a very big battery with a quite small wire coming out of it. [421.7] Stephen: It's got an XT90 on it. [425.9] Stephen: How many amps is that going to have? [427.7] Stephen: Is that one of these crazy 100C, like you can run a power tool of it type of batteries? [433.1] Curry: It says it's 80C, but that's 9.5 amps times 80, which is quite a lot. [442.98] Curry: It's probably a lie, but I don't know. [445.78] Curry: So to do that, we have to go out with the bomb squad quad, obviously, because we need [452.82] Curry: something big enough to do that. [455.9] Curry: And I decided that I went with the idea that I'd try and take four quads out to fly these [461.46] Curry: four batteries, but do a change on them, which meant I'm basically renaming them. [467.82] Curry: So on that big 10-inch stupid quad that flew awfully, someone said in the comments, oh, [474.14] Curry: I tried flashing the Helium 10 preset on it, and that worked much better. [479.1] Curry: So I was like, ah, do that. [481.1] Curry: See what happens. [483.63] Curry: Any other stuff's got various beater flight upgrades, moving to ERS, that sort of stuff, [490.43] Curry: rebuilds from previous things. [491.79] Curry: It's all new, all new stuff. [493.63] Curry: What can possibly go wrong? [495.11] UNKNOWN: Nothing. [496.11] Curry: Well, you'll tell us next week, I guess, for me. [499.63] Curry: I'll tell you from the fire in the field. [502.19] Jack: Yeah, I haven't even been brave enough to go over to my desk. [507.83] Jack: I've still got about all the shoe gone. [511.23] Jack: Still got another two ESCs to put on there before even wiring that little son of a gun [518.67] Jack: up. [519.67] Jack: And then I've got the historical quad back, and I do have some god-awful ESCs, some Afro [531.39] Jack: ESCs to put on there. [533.39] Jack: I don't know, Ben. [534.39] Stephen: I thought Paul was his friend, but it's clearly not. [537.47] Stephen: He states that, though. [539.99] Jack: Yeah, but Curry, I might need your help flashing them with the flash tool thing. [549.99] Jack: Flashing to what? [551.99] Jack: Simon K. [552.99] Curry: You're going to Simon K, not like, because I never had a flash tool for Simon K. I built [562.98] Curry: one to do the original BL Heli stuff on some other ones. [566.22] Curry: I can't remember which ones. [567.7] Jack: Yeah, I think it was the same as the KK2 flash tool. [572.14] Jack: Oh, is it? [573.14] Jack: The USB, ASP. [574.14] Jack: Oh, I've got one of those. [577.14] Jack: Yeah. [578.14] Jack: Yeah, I don't know. [580.14] Jack: I don't think I'm going to flash BL Heli to it. [584.58] Jack: I think I'm going to flash Simon K. [588.06] Curry: Old school. [590.06] Curry: Mm. [591.06] Curry: More. [592.06] Curry: What can go wrong? [594.62] Curry: You've got to have it as much as possible. [598.54] Curry: So you're going, you need to be like completely all old stuff and the worst possible. [604.18] Curry: Are you going to fly this on PWM and stuff? [606.62] Curry: Is this the plan? [608.62] Curry: No. [609.62] Curry: No, it's running crossfire. [612.3] Curry: Well, make your mind up. [613.3] Curry: Are you going authentic here or are you going antique? [616.34] Jack: Which is it? [617.34] Jack: Well, no, I didn't. [618.34] Jack: I don't feel like the receivers, the performance, some radio radio is going around. [625.22] Stephen: I'm sure you could pick one of those up for a couple of Bob probably and crash everything [628.7] Stephen: into a hedge quite nicely for you. [630.5] Stephen: Well, I mean, he does fly backwards into a hill on the crossfire. [634.98] Stephen: The hill flew into him. [635.98] Stephen: I think we've discerned that, haven't we? [638.5] Stephen: Yeah. [639.5] Curry: So it's okay to run a modern RX but not modern ESC. [644.5] Curry: Yeah. [645.5] Curry: That's the rules. [647.5] Jack: That's the rules. [649.94] Jack: Yeah. [651.02] Jack: I mean, I don't know. [652.34] Jack: I just kind of what I don't have a working free sky anything, you know, like I've got [665.18] Jack: free sky receivers with like PPM and yeah, I could know not spectrum and you're wrong. [678.3] Curry: You know, that's that's more old school for a sky. [684.38] Curry: Yeah. [685.38] Jack: Get your old ER. [686.38] Jack: They still had a bus though, didn't they? [688.5] Jack: Yeah, not not back in the day. [690.3] Jack: I could use one of the unsupported Maytech PWM receivers, but I just I don't know. [701.98] Jack: I just kind of put an EP one on there and just thought that would do just not gonna [706.62] Jack: be enough. [707.94] Stephen: We're not gonna be happy. [708.94] Curry: I mean, Cole's gonna look at that and think, you know, if you wanted to fly half decently [715.18] Curry: or as badly as possible, really being specific about the goal here. [719.78] Stephen: So it looks like he's designing it to fly as badly as possible. [724.46] Stephen: Then talks about it in this really romantic way, like it's going to be a life changing [728.18] Stephen: experience. [729.18] Jack: So I'm just not sure. [730.18] Jack: No, no, no. [731.18] Jack: The goal is to bring pain, you know, to call and a kind of. [737.46] Stephen: Sexy religious way or well, then just make him quite a tricopter. [742.42] Stephen: Yeah. [743.42] Stephen: Yeah. [744.42] Stephen: There's that as well. [745.42] Stephen: I'm sure you've got you've got a whole wall of foamy's up behind you that probably fly [748.5] Stephen: not great after they've been sent into a hill very, very fast. [752.74] Stephen: You could give them one of those. [754.98] Jack: I have no I don't really have any working pains really other than. [759.66] Stephen: Well, that's a good starting point, you see, because if they're flying that badly, then [763.18] Stephen: you just get them barely in the air and you're done. [767.46] Stephen: The thing is, you've got to make it representative of what someone at the time would have thought [771.14] Stephen: was good. [772.14] Stephen: So you're not just making something that is tight. [774.5] Stephen: You're making something that someone a while ago would have been incredibly proud to own. [779.38] Stephen: But by today's standards is kind of. [782.1] Jack: Yeah, I mean, the hardest point part was like trying to find the glass nylon props made [791.22] Jack: by gem fan that you had to change every five minutes. [794.58] Jack: But this is going to be even harder because you'll break like 20 sets in the first session. [798.9] Jack: And so. [799.9] Jack: Yeah. [802.34] Jack: I wish I had the three bladed version, though, you know, each more vibration. [808.98] Stephen: Yeah, because it was eight inch. [811.26] Stephen: This thing, quad blades are always the worst vibration, I think, if you can find some quad [816.42] Stephen: bladed props, those things, they would just like throw you into the right mess. [821.78] Jack: Yeah, I had I have got the I have got the Turner G9X with the FreeSky module like, you [836.02] Jack: know, hacked firmware in there that does like telemetry and everything. [845.54] Jack: Yeah, I have got that. [846.74] Jack: But that's stored up in the loft and I just can't be asked to deal with it. [853.81] Jack: So, you know, and I just kind of thought, well, express all the rest. [859.09] Jack: That's not really going to improve the improve the flying sort of response of it. [867.57] Curry: I've got I think I should bring you and make you keep this really terrible fly [873.97] Curry: sky radio, which was the first radio I bought. [877.01] Curry: And it's just it's basic. [881.49] Curry: How many channels is it four or five? [883.33] Curry: I don't know. [884.29] Curry: It's got normal sticks. [885.25] Curry: It's got a couple of switches. [886.53] Curry: But in order to change anything, including like reversing channels, you have to go on [890.29] Curry: the computer and connect to it and somehow change those things around. [895.89] Curry: And the chance of the software working anymore is very remote. [898.69] Curry: So I think that would be useful as a challenge. [903.92] Curry: And it's got those gold. [906.16] Curry: You've got like the eight or six channel fly scope and receivers with the little crappy [913.68] Curry: dipole antenna. [914.64] Curry: I think that'll work really well. [916.4] Jack: Yeah, sorted. [918.16] Jack: I didn't even I remember when I first started, I didn't even have fail safe set up properly. [922.96] Jack: So you just continue with its last. [926.4] Curry: Yeah, that's what flies go ahead. [928.4] Curry: Because I remember that because I was like, oh, I wonder how far I can go with my fantastic [933.68] Curry: AR Nominex or the the 9x as it was using the fly sky receiver. [942.0] Curry: And it just like, yeah, it just lost signal. [945.84] Curry: Not that I knew about it, but like the sticks didn't work and then crashed. [950.16] Curry: So that's when I invested in. [953.36] Stephen: I remember helping some kids at FPV drone fest to fail safe setting on fly [958.8] Stephen: skype. [959.28] Stephen: They'd arrive with like a deviation TX radio and fly sky. [964.4] Stephen: And they were the only people who had that. [967.44] Stephen: The organizers were like, what is this? [969.44] Stephen: We've never seen it. [971.2] Stephen: Like, have you set up fail safe? [972.48] Stephen: They looked at me and they're like, it works. [975.6] Stephen: And I'm like, that's not the same thing now, is it? [979.2] Stephen: So we had to sort of get take props off and check it out. [984.0] Stephen: And no, they had not set up fail safe. [986.08] Stephen: And yeah, we had to absolutely make it do kind of no pulses. [990.08] Stephen: And then the FC would take over. [992.32] Stephen: And the FC is a lot smarter now. [994.96] Stephen: And it can recognize a bunch of conditions such as this receiver is talking dog. [1001.6] Stephen: And fail safe, whereas in the past, it was a bit more gullible and credulous [1005.84] Stephen: of what the receiver might be saying, I think. [1008.64] Curry: So, so lucky to have more intelligent flight controllers. [1012.0] Curry: I remember setting up fail safes for my planes where they had their, [1017.84] Curry: you know, they had all proprietary autopilots. [1020.08] Curry: And you had to basically put the channels you wanted at the exact rates [1026.32] Curry: and then like press a button. [1028.0] Curry: So you're like, I need to throttle it about 80% and I want return home activated. [1033.44] Curry: And then like, press this button to do it. [1035.68] Curry: And then you had to test it, which involved holding a plane. [1038.4] Curry: Well, the thing goes absolutely mental. [1040.8] Curry: And you try to like switch it back off or pull the battery out or something. [1043.76] Curry: That was fun. [1045.44] Curry: Easy. [1045.76] Stephen: Now, I just noticed NRC's made a good point. [1048.56] Stephen: Like, are you running Windows XP? [1050.4] Stephen: So I think you've probably got to take this to the field with like [1052.96] Stephen: a beat up Dell latitude from 2012 running Windows XP as well. [1060.16] Jack: I got Windows 10. [1061.2] Jack: That's as far back as I go. [1063.04] Jack: I've got a copy of Windows 7. [1065.92] Stephen: It's not, it's not vintage, right? [1067.84] Stephen: I'm not into this. [1068.8] Jack: That's what I started on. [1071.2] Jack: I remember trying to flash some, some hobby king blue ESCs on Windows XP [1083.6] Jack: because I was away and all I had access to was, was that. [1089.44] Stephen: You've got to get your mini disk library out and just fucking go to town on this. [1093.44] Jack: I know. [1093.92] Jack: And I do have an old Windows XP machine, but I need to try and get up and running again. [1105.28] Stephen: Yeah. [1105.84] Stephen: I mean, it's probably full of assembly viruses by now or run by itself, [1109.44] Stephen: like straight out the door and over to Russia. [1112.08] Stephen: Fine. [1112.48] Jack: That's it. [1114.8] Jack: Like the Windows service pack three. [1117.68] Jack: Yeah, baby. [1118.56] Jack: I mean, install a version of Fallout and Fallout 2. [1126.53] Curry: It'd be fine until we try to go online and every single website will say, [1130.13] Curry: we don't like this because you're using on that. [1133.01] Curry: You can't get any new ones from the browser. [1135.17] Stephen: Single website would be like, we don't think you should really be connected to a network. [1145.3] Stephen: But for your health, I'm just going to just remotely shut down your computer. [1149.38] Stephen: You just stay there. [1151.14] Jack: Curry, what was the return address on those hobby king batteries? [1155.3] Jack: Are they actually based in the UK or did they import them? [1159.46] Jack: Do you? [1159.94] Curry: Uh, I don't know. [1163.14] Curry: They don't make lighters hidden. [1164.74] Curry: Still at the box. [1166.26] Jack: Well, no, but they used to have like lucky stuff, LTD. [1170.58] Curry: Yeah, that's the thing. [1172.66] Curry: They will generally, I don't get many things direct from China now because they all come in [1177.7] Curry: somewhere and then they come in locally, which is great for me because I don't have to pay [1183.3] Curry: customs. [1184.5] Curry: I can't remember. [1185.46] Curry: And I can't, I have no idea if the woman that talked to me was representing hobby king US [1193.38] Curry: or China or UK. [1195.46] Curry: I have to check that or where she wants the links. [1198.34] Stephen: Are they still the same company set up? [1200.1] Stephen: Because they had some difficulties didn't they? [1202.9] Stephen: Financial difficulties and they kind of stopped trading in some regions. [1206.98] Jack: Yeah. [1207.3] Jack: Covid was terrible. [1208.58] Jack: They just like people just didn't have jobs one day. [1212.42] Curry: But yeah, they've been somewhat irrelevant lately. [1215.86] Curry: No one's really thought about them much. [1219.46] Curry: Maybe people buying fixed wing planes are still doing that because they said that that [1224.42] Curry: was going to be their big thing. [1225.94] Curry: They're getting back into fixed wing mostly because I think they, yeah, that's why they [1229.3] Curry: didn't have any choice. [1231.94] Stephen: Well, also fixed wing stock doesn't really age out, does it? [1234.66] Stephen: It's like the same for 10 years. [1236.5] Stephen: And you can't hold on to quite frames that long because they'll have done like 27 [1240.58] Stephen: revisions. [1241.46] Stephen: I guess some fixed wing stuff has been unfair. [1244.18] Stephen: There's clearly some are going through tons of revisions, but it's more stable, [1249.46] Curry: part of the hub, right? [1252.26] Curry: Yeah, I think it's like if it's if it works like 10 years ago, it's still work now. [1257.46] Curry: It might just be the revision is going to be things like, oh, we've made this bigger so [1261.62] Curry: you can chuck in a big flight control and you've got more aspects about where to put [1265.94] Curry: the battery and stuff. [1267.38] Curry: But nothing serious changes. [1270.26] Stephen: Yeah, because if you're running a big warehouse in operation, that would be a pain point, [1274.1] Stephen: wouldn't it? [1274.66] Stephen: Like how long? [1275.94] Stephen: Nevermind how much space you've got for stock. [1278.18] Stephen: Like is it perishing like a bunch of fresh flours or fruits? [1281.7] Stephen: And I get the feeling some of the quadcopter stuff is a bit like that, [1285.14] Stephen: but it's good for one season and the season after people will give you two thirds of the [1289.78] Stephen: money and that's it. [1292.18] Curry: It might be interesting back in the day to try and chase the little trends going on. [1298.82] Curry: It's like, oh, we've released these motors and they've got like soft mounts. [1302.1] Curry: Oh, no, hang on, you've moved on. [1304.1] Curry: We've got this gimbal and it tries to do stuff. [1307.46] Curry: And oh, no, that's changed again. [1309.14] Curry: Now we now we're back to five inches and oh, we've got some bull nose props. [1314.26] Curry: They're new. [1314.82] Curry: But oh, no, they've stopped. [1316.1] Stephen: You can imagine what the warehouse staff were feeling after looking at a couple of [1320.18] Stephen: years of those stats where they're like, well, we buy something. [1322.74] Stephen: It sells well. [1323.54] Stephen: So we buy more of it. [1325.3] Stephen: And then it ends up sat in the warehouse after that for like the next 24 months. [1331.14] Stephen: We can't shift it. [1332.74] Stephen: It's kind of a nightmare. [1335.3] Curry: Yeah, charging all the batteries go out of date and they shove them in the great big bin. [1340.42] Curry: Oh, yeah, the safety. [1342.02] Jack: Oh, that was scary. [1343.62] Jack: I bet that's been still there. [1348.18] Curry: It's safe. [1348.58] Curry: Next time you visit your mom, go up there. [1350.98] Curry: There were full boxes of batteries in there that are just basically dated out because [1356.5] Curry: they haven't sold them within X amount of time. [1359.06] Curry: So they take the entire box and shove it in. [1361.62] Stephen: Yeah, it's fine. [1362.82] Stephen: That's called safety. [1364.34] Curry: That's how it works. [1365.62] Curry: It's terrible. [1368.51] Jack: Crying shame. [1370.91] Jack: Yeah, that storage container would have been just left abandoned there. [1377.79] Jack: I can't see anyone taking that. [1381.71] Jack: What are they going to do? [1382.35] Jack: Drive it down a little tip and say, can we put this in your battery lid, please? [1385.31] Stephen: I'm trying to find what the half-life of lithium battery chemistry is. [1389.63] Stephen: Like at what point is it going to be safe? [1392.51] Stephen: Yeah, restore. [1394.27] Stephen: I'll tell you what, it's going to burn to hell and bark. [1405.92] Stephen: Well, it may not. [1406.8] Stephen: You never know. [1409.04] Stephen: Do they get defunct at a certain point? [1410.72] Stephen: Because it's the vulnerability linked to how much stored charge there is. [1415.68] Stephen: Or is it just they're flammable even if they're completely dead empty? [1422.24] Stephen: I guess they're still flammable even if there's no charge for that. [1425.44] Curry: I think so because it's a chemistry thing, isn't it? [1428.16] Curry: I mean, obviously, you can discharge them to death and that makes them a bit safer. [1432.72] Curry: But I wouldn't go banging nails into anybody just to check. [1436.88] Stephen: If they sit there, presumably, they've got really damp as well as they've been outside. [1440.88] Stephen: If the mixture slowly absorbs a bunch of moisture from the surrounding air, [1445.76] Stephen: does that make them safer or does that make them less safe? [1450.29] Stephen: So many questions. [1451.25] Stephen: And I feel that Hobbyking, in their own special way, is trying to answer those questions. [1456.05] Curry: Don't know. [1456.45] Curry: I kind of feel if you've got a big shed full of batteries exposed to the elements, [1461.97] Curry: I'm feeling less safe as time goes on somehow. [1465.89] Stephen: Well, a attitude like that, you'll never work at Hobbyking. [1468.53] UNKNOWN: I think they did. [1469.25] Jack: If you just charge a light go to zero, it will recover back to about one volt. [1477.09] Stephen: It wants to be at one volt, then. [1479.89] Stephen: Last goals. [1485.46] Stephen: One times. [1487.06] Jack: Devo 7E, factory sealed, best radio ever. [1491.06] Jack: So good. [1492.26] Jack: But I bought a spare. [1494.1] Stephen: They're not bad, the Devo 7's, yeah. [1497.22] Stephen: I mean, they're totally outclassed now, but they were quite funky. [1500.98] Stephen: Multi-protocol radios go, because back in the day, you didn't want to get stuck [1504.74] Stephen: in someone's ecosystem, right? [1506.58] Stephen: This was the big downside of FrSky, where you could bolt other stuff to it, [1512.98] Stephen: but it's still fundamentally an FrSky product. [1515.22] Stephen: With the Devos, they were much more light. [1518.02] Stephen: Once you flashed it, it was just whatever the hell you wanted it to be. [1521.7] Stephen: And you could have all the complexity that you'd get from a monochrome OpenTX system. [1528.66] Stephen: You could do all that stuff. [1529.78] Stephen: It was just really badly documented. [1531.86] Stephen: I think that the biggest problem with some of the early ones [1534.34] Stephen: had pretty limited amounts of internal flash. [1536.58] Stephen: So got to a point where they were adding so many protocols to the things, [1540.98] Stephen: the multi-protocol radio, that you couldn't actually fit the protocols [1545.54] Stephen: in the flash space. [1546.5] Stephen: And that kind of killed someone. [1549.86] Curry: Choose your favorite protocols and flash them. [1552.26] Jack: Yeah, right. [1554.5] Stephen: They're all nice. [1557.46] Jack: You don't really need that many of them, surely. [1560.42] Jack: Not these days. [1561.78] Stephen: Yeah, but a lot of the trouble is you have to pick from a list, [1566.66] Stephen: and they've got the most obtuse names in the world. [1569.14] Stephen: So ahead of time, it's not the easiest thing [1571.86] Stephen: to pick out exactly which protocols you need and which you don't need. [1575.86] Stephen: Like, do I need an SJN5 version 3? [1580.1] Stephen: Or what? [1581.14] Stephen: You know, maybe get out to somewhere and be like, [1583.86] Stephen: oh, yeah, I could control that car with this. [1586.02] Stephen: Oh, no, I needed the SJN5 version 3 protocol [1589.86] Stephen: for this weird line of toys. [1592.66] Stephen: Yeah, it was always a bit like you just had to kind of enable everything [1596.26] Stephen: and then look it up online and figure out [1598.1] Stephen: which protocols you needed once the thing was in front of you. [1601.94] Stephen: It did control just absolutely everything. [1603.86] Stephen: It was just comically compatible. [1608.66] Jack: Yeah, Andy says, like, back in the day, there were only four chips. [1611.94] Jack: So the protocols were easy to hack, hence the name four in one. [1615.7] Stephen: There were four chips, but each of those four chips [1617.86] Stephen: will do like 27 different protocols. [1620.42] Stephen: So it's not four chips, four protocols. [1622.18] Stephen: It's like four chips, four types of encoding. [1626.66] Stephen: Look at the protocols list on OpenTX or HDX. [1629.78] Curry: It's a lot longer than four. [1632.18] Curry: There is a lot. [1633.06] Curry: But am I guessing from that coming from Andy, [1635.7] Curry: there's more than just four basic chips now [1638.26] Curry: that handle lots and lots of protocols. [1640.1] Curry: So we have the five, six. [1641.86] Curry: Most of the toy ones are all on those. [1644.98] Curry: Those are the ones that they had, of course. [1646.82] Curry: It's just if anything else comes out. [1648.9] Curry: But I tend to think that's sort of, that's had its day, [1653.86] Curry: the sort of multi-program module, because now it's like, [1656.58] Curry: you're running ELS, right? [1657.86] Curry: And the legacy stuff, I have this multi-program module [1661.06] Curry: and I just run FreeSky or maybe Spectrum [1664.98] Curry: or Floy's guy in Jack's case, if he gets that receiving. [1668.66] Curry: Stop it. [1671.54] Stephen: If you're around someone's house and their kid's got a toy, [1674.02] Stephen: that's the main situation. [1675.54] Stephen: I find these things being useful. [1676.82] Stephen: Like someone has got a little toy car [1680.66] Stephen: and they want a nicer controller [1682.74] Stephen: or they've got a little toy quadcopter [1685.62] Stephen: and you're like, well, this could fly a bit better, [1688.02] Stephen: but the controller that comes with it [1689.7] Stephen: is just minimum viable product. [1692.1] Stephen: And so you just go over there [1693.62] Stephen: and give them a bit of a hand and be like, [1695.14] Stephen: oh, we'll just bind this onto this controller. [1696.74] Stephen: It's not an amazing expensive controller, [1698.5] Stephen: but it's better than the one that came [1699.78] Stephen: with your little toy quad. [1702.02] Stephen: And all of a sudden, you've transitioned it [1704.26] Stephen: from being disposable to being something [1706.58] Stephen: that you can learn to fly on [1707.94] Stephen: and get an appreciation of what's going on. [1712.18] Stephen: It's not going to be very useful in the long run, [1716.34] Stephen: but to get people flying, it's got to play something. [1720.98] Frank: This episode was recorded in front of a live online audience, [1724.18] Frank: downloaded and edited to make sense when it played audio only, [1727.7] Frank: censored to please the iTunes people, [1729.54] Frank: hosted on the internet, [1730.58] Frank: forwarded through to your podcast provider, [1732.42] Frank: downloaded, playing on your device [1734.26] Frank: and is now playing in your ears. [1736.18] Frank: All thanks to our Patreons. [1738.26] Frank: Consider joining them [1739.22] Frank: and you'll also get other online benefits. [1741.7] Frank: Find out more at patreon.com forward slash let's drone out. [1746.5] Stephen: Did you guys not mess around [1747.62] Stephen: with multi protocol that much then? [1749.7] Curry: No, never. [1751.3] Curry: Only in terms of like, [1752.34] Curry: I had a couple of like toy things from Banggood, [1755.3] Curry: which is like, look, I can make this fly now. [1758.18] Curry: It was, I only had like a few things that were on spectrum, [1765.14] Curry: which I could like use. [1766.66] Curry: I've still got this little tiny plane on the wall [1768.34] Curry: that's spectrum based, which I can use, [1770.1] Curry: but the rest of it was like, [1772.9] Curry: just a bit of a mess around to see if I can make it work. [1776.58] Curry: But other than that, it's been like, [1778.66] Curry: I said, I'm on the other side of everything now [1781.62] Curry: and that's just my legacy stuff on Free Sky. [1786.02] Stephen: Yeah, it's just toys, I guess. [1787.78] Stephen: What I'm using increasingly for is cars like ground vehicles. [1791.62] Stephen: A lot of the time the controllers that you get with them [1793.46] Stephen: are really terrible and having... [1795.3] Curry: I've found that, but I've had real trouble. [1797.7] Curry: I tried to get some, [1800.1] Curry: try on some of the cars I've used on FPV [1802.9] Curry: and I ended up, because they've got like inbuilt ESC [1806.98] Curry: and receive all in one. [1808.66] Curry: And I was like, I went through all the protocols [1810.5] Curry: and I couldn't make it fly into anything. [1812.98] Curry: So I just ended up swapping out the ESC [1816.66] Curry: and getting myself a proper receiver for it [1818.74] Curry: and doing it that way. [1819.3] Stephen: I've had luck with WL toys. [1821.38] Stephen: WL toys, they have quite good protocol support. [1824.9] Stephen: I don't know. [1825.3] Stephen: WL toys have quite a lot of protocols in there, [1826.98] Curry: but yeah, that's funny. [1830.02] Stephen: But yeah, there's so many manufacturers of cars. [1832.58] Stephen: I'm sure some of them are totally unsupported, [1834.66] Stephen: I believe that. [1836.42] Stephen: I would say I use them often just every now and then. [1839.06] Stephen: I'm like, I'll just pick up some like comedy thing [1841.54] Stephen: to play around with and that's probably what it comes out. [1844.82] Stephen: How's the voron build going? [1846.82] Jack: Any progress? [1848.18] Jack: No, I've stuffed it into an even worse corner than before. [1854.66] Jack: And I still haven't even done the continuity test. [1860.1] Jack: I had a look at like the wiring diagram thing [1865.7] Jack: and I can't find the basic wiring diagram that I saved. [1870.82] Jack: So I'm sort of like, I've lost my documentation. [1875.62] Jack: I've totally lost where I am with everything. [1878.34] Jack: You need to get a nice big chunk of time when you're calm [1881.46] Jack: and just pick it up and play ahead. [1883.46] Jack: Yeah, I haven't. [1886.9] Jack: I've totally dropped the ball. [1888.9] Stephen: You know, you can't always just charge through. [1891.94] Stephen: You've done like probably 100 hours of work on that. [1894.98] Stephen: It's a lot and you can't just keep up that momentum [1897.62] Stephen: because you know, you're going to break something, [1899.54] Stephen: you're going to get tired. [1901.46] Jack: Yeah, well, yeah. [1902.66] Jack: Life's been, you know, kicking me in the balls for a while. [1905.7] Jack: That's kind of why I sort of like took my foot off the pedal a bit. [1911.54] Jack: And then, you know, I tried to make sure I went and saw you guys. [1919.38] Jack: I messaged like Charles is in Cambridge and that. [1924.26] Jack: And basically none of those guys are free until September. [1930.1] Jack: So that's going to be awful to fly in September. [1933.22] Jack: Sure. [1933.7] Stephen: You never know. [1934.58] Stephen: I mean, we're getting a wet period now. [1936.18] Stephen: It could like tidy up nicely. [1943.31] Jack: But I did let Adam Juniper know about the LDO 10 years. [1951.07] Jack: So we might have an old, another old host. [1954.51] Jack: And he did ask me to write my opinions on the new legislations that's coming in. [1961.47] Jack: Oh, geez. [1963.07] Jack: But I don't think that's a very good idea because I don't think I've got anything good to say about it. [1969.55] Jack: Yeah. [1970.11] Stephen: It's like those feedback surveys where you're like, well, you want me to complete this, [1974.03] Stephen: but I don't think it's going to end up with any happy thoughts like this. [1981.82] Jack: Is it remote ID that's coming in? [1985.5] Stephen: They're just tightening everything up, I think. [1990.46] Curry: Complain about it better. [1991.98] Curry: And I can't read stuff that makes me depressed. [1993.98] Curry: I'm just going to ignore it and carry on. [1995.98] Stephen: I mean, I gave it a quick glance, but I thought I'd wrap my head around the legislation previously. [2001.02] Stephen: And it just looks more obtuse and more complex. [2003.58] Stephen: And it's like they're deliberately changing the way that everything's organized and laid out every [2008.62] Stephen: single time. [2009.42] Stephen: They're like, oh, it's going to make it easier. [2010.86] Stephen: But actually, all you've done is done a rug pull on anyone who's been paying attention up until now. [2016.54] Stephen: So I just have no idea what's happened at this point. [2020.7] Stephen: And it's killing my enthusiasm for the hobby, as you can probably tell. [2026.62] Stephen: Yeah, I've noticed. [2028.22] Stephen: And there's lots of other tech stuff to do. [2029.9] Stephen: So at the end of the world, maybe I'll get the tank out, mess around with that for a bit. [2036.86] Stephen: I'm certainly not going to try and build a 100-gram quad. [2039.82] Stephen: I don't think there's much joy to be had in that. [2042.22] Stephen: It's just not being featherweight and knocked around by the breeze. [2046.22] Stephen: I've felt that type of thing before. [2047.74] Stephen: It's just like challenging to find any way to fly it because, you know, some more thoughts [2052.14] Stephen: in the wrong direction. [2053.02] Stephen: It skids off. [2054.54] Stephen: It's a bit tricky. [2056.62] Jack: I just feel like I've got so much **** to sort out. [2060.46] Jack: You know, I've got the joys of trying to sort out my car insurance as well. [2065.02] Jack: That's going to be fun. [2067.1] Jack: Yeah, I've got a little bit to find. [2069.1] Jack: Change of circumstances, which is always great. [2074.3] Jack: So I don't know. [2075.66] Jack: I'm just I don't know. [2077.26] Jack: I've kind of on the bonus part that I've been doing with Cole, we completed my favorites list. [2087.5] Jack: So then we so we're probably going to start talking about when Cole first joined the hobby [2095.02] Jack: and how he got on and that. [2100.67] Jack: So, you know, that's been kind of fun. [2103.15] Jack: But, you know, I missed I missed TTNS last week because I was ill. [2110.43] Jack: I done LDO and then cancelled TTNS and I'm super bummed out because it means that I'm [2117.31] Jack: not going to be on there till like August, late August. [2121.71] Jack: So I'm like super I don't know. [2126.35] Jack: I just yeah, I know. [2127.87] Jack: I just kind of feel like I'm coasting till Cole gets here. [2131.79] Jack: And then somehow Cole is going to get here and magically figure out what to do with me. [2136.19] Jack: Well, you can't do everything all the time. [2139.23] Jack: It was my birthday. [2140.75] Jack: And then like so many people called me. [2144.51] Jack: It was really lovely. [2145.87] Jack: But I was just like, I don't have anything to say. [2149.15] Jack: I don't have anything that's going on. [2151.23] Jack: I don't know what I'm doing. [2153.71] Jack: You know, I would have planned like some sort of weekend fly with you guys. [2157.95] Jack: But then it's like an awkward thing of if I go to the farmer and be like, hey, I want [2165.39] Jack: to fly with a group of us, even though, you know, that's probably not going to be ideal. [2172.35] Jack: And plus, like the weathers, it just it just it started raining. [2177.47] Jack: It's either windy or rainy. [2179.63] Jack: Yeah. [2180.11] Jack: I've been really windy. [2182.75] Curry: Just everywhere has been windy, hasn't it? [2185.31] Jack: Yeah. [2187.66] Jack: And like I properly like I look back at when we first started, I was out. [2192.54] Jack: I couldn't. [2194.94] Jack: I was just out all the time. [2197.5] Jack: And I was thinking about all the light. [2200.86] Jack: I just look at the files and I have made a you can't fault me. [2206.38] Jack: I have made a real effort to fly this year. [2209.34] Jack: Well done. [2210.7] Jack: You know, like I've I've visited you. [2213.66] Jack: I visited Steven. [2215.5] Jack: I visited Frank. [2216.94] Jack: I visited Frank with Chris G. [2221.66] Jack: Yeah, I've done that. [2223.66] Jack: And then it just made me ill. [2227.34] Jack: I've just like I've had a I've literally had like the flu for two weeks now. [2233.18] Jack: Time to rest. [2234.94] Curry: That's the thing about meeting people. [2236.94] Stephen: They're all full of germs. [2238.78] Stephen: Yeah. [2239.42] Stephen: I'm not happy about having to go into work so much because I just know as [2244.94] Stephen: soon as winter comes around and be sick, sick, sick. [2249.18] Stephen: Nothing to get on that. [2252.78] Jack: So I mean, I just look at like my storage of like, [2263.78] Jack: you know, all the flights I done stuff. [2266.26] Jack: Like, you know, I go back to 2014. [2270.18] Jack: I got the early part for I went to flew fossil. [2274.82] Jack: I got memory cards. [2277.06] Jack: Two, four, three memory card. [2280.34] Jack: One, I went to the nationals. [2283.38] Jack: I got Niko's maiden of his tricopter. [2287.06] Jack: I flew with Oscar Lang. [2289.46] Jack: I flew at Stama Park with Tony and everyone. [2293.3] Jack: Flew again at Stama with Tony Oscar and Dan Upton. [2302.26] Jack: Then I went to summer's pond and I'd done the FPV league where my [2309.14] Jack: ESCs caught fire in London. [2313.38] Jack: Like I've done all that. [2314.74] Jack: And then this year I've done I've been out a good time a load with Chris. [2323.46] Jack: I've been out with Chris. [2325.7] Jack: I went and saw Curry. [2327.86] Jack: I've been out of Tom with Dan and then Frank Stama with Dom. [2335.54] Jack: Been out with Frank and Rudy. [2338.1] Jack: Then I've been out with Chris G. [2340.66] Jack: I've done some testing. [2343.3] Jack: I don't believe you. [2345.62] Stephen: We believe you, Jack. [2347.38] Jack: In the snow. [2348.26] Jack: Yeah, it's just like I've been out of Tom as well. [2353.38] Jack: So yeah, I've done I've done pretty well. [2355.22] Stephen: Yeah, yeah. [2357.3] Jack: Yeah, just don't feel just doesn't feel like enough. [2361.62] Stephen: I'm just more enjoying home automation and other stuff. [2363.94] Stephen: To be honest, I'm a bit flying now and then but it's not. [2368.9] Stephen: I think that the hotness has kind of died off a lot. [2371.46] Stephen: The stuff that I'm I still pay attention to the media. [2374.26] Stephen: It's just I'm noticing a lot of things haven't changed a hell of a lot. [2378.74] Stephen: So I don't feel like there's a lot of things because part of what I used to do [2382.26] Stephen: is experiment like this is new. [2383.7] Stephen: We'll try that. [2384.34] Stephen: That's new. [2384.82] Stephen: I'll try that. [2386.02] Stephen: And I'm not getting that sort of fear of missing out. [2389.62] Stephen: So I used to get the old FOMO and be like, I'll have to try this experiment with that. [2393.62] Stephen: Try that. [2394.82] Stephen: But now it feels like it's all kind of same as it was last year. [2399.62] Stephen: So I'll just sort of, you know, check back in on the news in a little while and see how it goes. [2404.42] Jack: You know, I've still got a ton of tabs open for the beta flight documentation. [2413.04] Jack: No, that's been interesting. [2415.76] Jack: Slowly going through that. [2422.96] Jack: It's a bit all over the place. [2425.76] Jack: I'm not going to lie. [2426.88] Curry: Yeah, it's the last thing anybody wants to do, isn't it? [2430.8] Stephen: Yeah, it's also written by people who have very deep knowledge of very narrow areas. [2437.12] Stephen: So you end up with someone who knows everything about ESCs, [2441.84] Stephen: but knows absolutely nothing about GPS or radio receivers. [2445.68] Stephen: And so they write the ESC bit and it's super deep, you know, [2450.72] Stephen: and it just doesn't cover everything because of that reason. [2457.89] Stephen: You're relying on people to spend a bunch of time coming up with a documentation, [2463.57] Stephen: but you don't have an expert for every single part, [2467.41] Stephen: much less an expert that wants to spend ages. [2472.69] Stephen: Talking about the document because not everyone's going to be good at the subject [2477.41] Stephen: and good at writing. [2478.37] Stephen: That's like an unusual overlap. [2480.69] Stephen: That's the reason why developers hate documentation normally. [2484.29] Stephen: That's not in there for the writing. [2487.09] Stephen: They're in there for the playing with the code. [2490.05] Stephen: So I think it's lucky to have got as far as it has, [2493.17] Stephen: but it's something I'd like to contribute a bit more to. [2495.97] Stephen: I'm not a great developer, but I think I'm an okay technical writer. [2500.77] Stephen: So, you know, I'll try and help out if I can. [2504.53] Stephen: It's just, it is onerous, you know, it's kind of a chore [2507.65] Stephen: because you've got to, if you're writing about something, [2511.01] Stephen: you're doing a page on receivers, for example. [2513.33] Stephen: Well, you can't just write about what you happen to use. [2516.93] Stephen: You've got to include the fly skies. [2520.05] Stephen: The radio fly, whatever they're called, you know, radio link receivers. [2525.41] Stephen: You've got to include all the hokey stuff that people just might have [2529.89] Stephen: and explain how they can use it. [2531.89] Stephen: Because we do get people who complain that they're, [2535.41] Stephen: um, what's that elitist radio? [2540.21] Stephen: The elitist radio that fixed wind guys have, the really fancy one. [2546.37] Stephen: The old guy radio, Jetty. [2548.93] Stephen: We have some people flying Jetty radios [2551.73] Stephen: and they'll be like, why is my telemetry not working on Jetty? [2556.13] Stephen: And they'll go to the wiki and be like, well, [2557.89] Stephen: it doesn't say how to use my Jetty radio. [2559.73] Stephen: They'll be like, yeah, because you are the person with the Jetty radio. [2563.65] Stephen: I've not been able to test it. [2566.61] Stephen: So, yeah, you've got to be kind of painfully evenhanded about stuff like that. [2571.57] Jack: Yeah. [2573.01] Jack: Mate, the warbirds guys all had like Jetty radios. [2576.69] Jack: It was insane. [2577.97] Jack: Two grand radio. [2579.49] Jack: Yeah. [2579.97] Curry: It's the ones that sort of sit there as like the tray radio. [2583.65] Curry: They've got a tray table. [2584.77] Curry: Yeah. [2585.25] Curry: Joysticks. [2585.81] Curry: Yeah. [2586.13] Jack: Mate, we had a taste of that with Curry and your support in the video, like the video game. [2595.09] Jack: I remember you just being like, oh yeah, I've got this transmitter [2599.73] Jack: and I plugged it into my computer. [2601.89] Jack: It doesn't work. [2602.93] Jack: And you were just like, what is this? [2605.73] Jack: Where is it? [2606.45] Jack: What the hell makes some of those things that people were trying to use? [2614.13] Jack: I'm like, what bin did you find this? [2619.33] Jack: I was just like, mate, some of the stuff were just like. [2627.6] Stephen: Yeah. [2628.08] Stephen: And they will pay really, really good money. [2632.0] Stephen: Not slightly good money, but crazy good money. [2634.56] Stephen: So they'll want to use it. [2636.0] Stephen: They'll really want to use it. [2638.0] Stephen: There's no talking them out of it, convincing them to go and buy some [2641.76] Stephen: sensibly priced. [2642.72] Jack: I would send you their radios as well to get you to get it to work. [2648.24] Jack: It's another world. [2649.76] Jack: Did that happen, Curry? [2651.92] Curry: What for the sim? [2653.36] Curry: They would send that people sent me because generally speaking, these weird old radios [2661.44] Curry: didn't just plug in. [2662.48] Curry: They had some sort of dongle. [2665.68] Curry: So it is using the old three and a half mil audio type jack into this weird USB dongle. [2673.2] Curry: And I got sent a few of those to check out. [2676.08] Curry: And that's it's like, that's because when I first started, I didn't put a calibration [2680.96] Curry: thing in because all the modern razor tested. [2682.56] Curry: This is fine. [2683.6] Curry: And then I plugged one of these in. [2685.36] Curry: It's like the sticks were like up there. [2688.64] Curry: It's like, come back, come back down all over the place. [2693.68] Curry: All their channels were buggered. [2695.28] Curry: It's like, okay, channels one, two, three, four. [2697.84] Curry: What's this switch channel 24? [2699.68] Curry: That's weird. [2700.24] Curry: Because it's like, [2702.72] Stephen: channel one, two, three, four, five. [2704.24] Stephen: No, 24. [2705.6] Stephen: This is a pretty nice product. [2706.88] Stephen: No question. [2709.28] Jack: I remember the FSI sixes and me like flashing it to the Bojangles modern stuff. [2716.4] Jack: Oh, my God. [2717.2] Stephen: Never flash a Bojangles jet. [2719.92] Jack: I know. [2720.64] Jack: I'll get you in trouble. [2723.36] Stephen: Yeah, the cops will get it off you. [2727.52] Stephen: So you're going to go flying again soon? [2729.04] Stephen: Do you have any plans? [2732.5] Jack: I'm out tomorrow with the Brighton guys. [2735.46] Jack: Two of us out tomorrow. [2736.74] Stephen: Are you in your usual place down the valley? [2740.1] Jack: I don't know. [2740.74] Jack: I think it might be Stammah. [2742.58] Jack: It will be the valley if Dan does the morning. [2745.78] Jack: If not, if he's totally busy, then yeah, I think it will just be Stammah. [2751.94] Jack: I haven't very nice. [2754.02] Jack: I've got to coordinate. [2755.86] Jack: You are very welcome to join us. [2757.94] Jack: But I think you'll probably be working with you. [2762.58] Stephen: Yeah, it being Friday. [2764.02] Stephen: Yeah. [2764.58] Stephen: I thought I thought I would secretly partly hoping that it might already be the weekend, [2768.66] Stephen: but that seems unlikely. [2769.94] Stephen: It's just my yeah. [2772.74] Stephen: Yeah. [2774.02] Stephen: Wishing it to be the weekend. [2776.58] Jack: But yeah, if you want to do something in the weekend, I am more than happy to see you. [2781.94] Jack: We could go somewhere, but I don't want to fly down there. [2785.62] Stephen: Certainly tempting. [2787.46] Stephen: And it did seem that surprisingly, I did have a flyable cord after leaving it left alone in a [2794.98] Stephen: bag untouched. [2797.46] Stephen: One of them had some very unusual damage, but one of them was worth. [2802.42] Stephen: Well, two of them actually, just one of the five inches was looking a bit funky. [2806.9] Stephen: And I didn't feel like why. [2809.54] Jack: Hmm. [2810.26] Jack: I got sent a new seven inch frame. [2813.62] Jack: I'm waiting on I've ordered some standoffs from China. [2817.7] Jack: I might cut down some other standoffs. [2822.98] Stephen: Nothing wrong. [2824.66] Stephen: Yeah. [2826.5] Stephen: What's that? [2826.82] Stephen: Hang on. [2827.06] Stephen: What length standoffs do you need? [2828.42] Jack: Because I've got 16 16 M2 or M3. [2835.54] Jack: Three, baby. [2839.62] Jack: And also, Stephen, I have ordered, believe it or not, some more of the eight, the eight mil gummies. [2852.82] Stephen: You don't want to take my janky advice of just shoving a bit of wire insulation. [2857.14] Jack: No, no, no. [2857.78] Jack: These are these are M4 to M3 conversion. [2862.26] Jack: It's so that we can make your quads even more yellow. [2866.42] Jack: Because you need that style of ones for your Sky Stars one. [2877.2] Jack: Eight milligram gummies. [2878.88] Jack: Yeah, that's cool. [2881.04] Jack: Yeah, 16. [2883.68] Stephen: Those that just get my eye and those are 25. [2888.16] Jack: Is 16 still the age to you can buy lottery tickets? [2891.92] Jack: Is that right? [2892.88] Stephen: That's that's not going to be the age that you can buy. [2896.32] Stephen: Oh, I've actually labeled them. [2897.52] Stephen: These are 15. [2899.92] Jack: Yeah, 15 standard, but 16 is weird. [2903.28] Stephen: Why do you need 16? [2905.28] Jack: I don't know. [2905.84] Jack: It's just what they are. [2909.68] Jack: I thought it was weird. [2910.72] Jack: I was like, do 15. [2916.86] Jack: Very strange. [2918.62] Stephen: I've probably got more in M2, but that's not helping you. [2921.74] Stephen: Can't fit the fold through them. [2924.94] Jack: With the power of the internet, [2926.7] Jack: you know, like that you shape saw thing. [2930.22] Jack: What is that called to buy one? [2933.74] Jack: You know, like, you know, it's shaped like a you [2937.5] Jack: and it holds your saw blade true as you saw into it. [2943.26] Jack: What are they called? [2944.54] Stephen: I've noted talking about the frame that goes around the hacksaw. [2947.5] Stephen: Let's just call it a hacksaw. [2949.26] Jack: No, like, I can draw a picture. [2952.86] Curry: Caroline says coping saw. [2954.38] Jack: No, no, no, no, not coping saw. [2958.62] Jack: Like, you use it as, you know, you like stick your bit of wood in. [2964.06] Jack: Hang on, let me draw a picture. [2966.22] Jack: You know, and it sort of like does the 45 degree cutting thing for you. [2973.66] Jack: Oh, a mitre, like a mitre block. [2975.98] Jack: Is that what? [2976.54] Jack: Yeah, is it a mitre? [2978.3] Stephen: Yeah, we think so. [2980.46] Stephen: We think so. [2981.18] Stephen: We do. [2983.57] Stephen: And then you have like... [2984.69] Stephen: Yeah, what you used to do to get perfect right angles and stuff. [2988.21] Curry: And we've got confirmation on mitre block from everybody. [2991.89] Curry: Is it a mitre block? [2993.17] Stephen: Yeah. [2996.13] Stephen: A quid or something. [2996.93] Stephen: You'd be able to find them everywhere. [2998.21] Stephen: A plastic one. [2998.85] Jack: Well, no, I'm going to print one. [3000.21] Jack: I'll print one off. [3001.65] Jack: Yeah. [3001.81] Jack: I thought maybe I can make like a little knee mitre standoff cutter and then, you know. [3008.45] Stephen: No, because you're sawing metal at once everywhere or jump around. [3013.41] Curry: I'm concerned about what happens when you go through and you're still sawing. [3017.57] Stephen: Yeah, mate. [3018.05] Stephen: It's a bit dodge. [3018.61] Curry: Don't worry, you should stop after a while. [3020.69] Stephen: Oh, yeah. [3021.65] Stephen: When you get well into your finger and you start really hard to clear it up. [3027.89] Jack: Hawke, hacksaw, coping saw. [3031.33] Jack: I'm not coping very well. [3032.77] Jack: I know that. [3033.81] Jack: But are you saw? [3036.45] Jack: Yeah, that's it. [3038.13] Jack: Mitre block. [3039.09] Jack: Thank you, guys. [3040.45] Jack: I knew you guys would know. [3042.45] Jack: I used to have one. [3043.73] Jack: I used to have like a little mini one. [3045.09] Jack: I don't know what happened to it. [3046.13] Jack: It's gone. [3047.49] Stephen: The back of a drawer somewhere. [3050.37] Stephen: They only do get destroyed on account of being right next to a saw. [3054.53] Stephen: It doesn't take much to sweep up. [3056.13] Stephen: So. [3056.69] Jack: Have you done any tricopter stuff, Currie? [3060.85] Curry: No. [3061.65] Curry: I like you guys. [3062.85] Curry: I'm not having a problem with like general apathy. [3065.41] Curry: I'm having a problem always with time. [3067.73] Curry: I've got lots of interesting things I want to do. [3070.21] Curry: Currie, you're a man of leisure. [3072.93] Curry: I'm not a man of leisure. [3073.97] Curry: I'm a man who has to clean the house a lot and stuff and do life things. [3081.09] Curry: And occasionally, I can do something else. [3084.37] Curry: But yeah, I certainly upgraded like all those gods to the latest version of Open IPC, [3091.81] Curry: for example, which was that's like at least 50 upgrades since I'd upgraded anything. [3099.57] Curry: I need to look at that. [3100.77] Curry: I need to do a whole bunch of stuff sitting out there in the corner. [3103.73] Curry: But tomorrow, I'm flying four quads before batteries to see what happens. [3107.65] Curry: Okay. [3108.05] Curry: Exciting. [3108.61] Curry: Good luck. [3111.57] Jack: Don't be on fire. [3112.45] Stephen: Don't be on fire. [3113.81] Stephen: Yeah. [3114.05] Jack: We'll try not to. [3114.69] Jack: Don't make any promises. [3117.65] Jack: Thank you. [3153.97] Jack: Yeah. [3154.85] Jack: Yeah. [3155.09] Jack: It's the wild. [3156.05] Jack: But yeah, we are enjoying making them. [3159.49] Jack: You've been joined by everyone's favorite curry kitten. [3163.25] Curry: Bye. [3165.01] Jack: The man with the West Star, Steven. [3167.17] Jack: Thank you. [3167.73] Jack: Good night. [3168.21] Jack: Happy flying. [3169.41] Jack: And I've been bright until I fly and you've been listening to Let's Throw Now. [3173.01] Jack: Like, subscribe, and message Tony that he is a butthole. [3180.85] Jack: Thank you. [3181.65] Jack: And good night. [3187.02] Jack: You're a butthole, Tony. [3188.46] UNKNOWN: Tony, you suck.
