[187.53] Frank: Yeah, so i've been keen to to get matt and hopefully brady if he gets the message at some point

[196.41] Frank: Uh to talk about what they've been doing, uh over the past
[200.65] Frank: I mean it was how long ago was it now? It feels
[203.61] Frank: So long ago, but I have been a bit busy. So it might not actually be a little bit

[217.77] Frank: Woodspring is uh a model flying club in
[223.61] Frank: This is sort of near western superman sort of end of the country. Yeah, like yachten way, isn't that?
[229.45] Jack: Why would you ever leave? Sorry, that's a quote for tony
[235.69] Frank: And they're on like
[238.17] Frank: What are very clearly floodplains where there's there's not much around because
[244.09] Frank: It gets very soggy at times of year in the summer. It's not so soggy and they get to fly models there
[251.29] Frank: And they do a model show there
[254.57] Frank: Which uh has lots of large models and it's quite a good fun event
[259.13] Frank: There's a lot of different things that happen there. They occasionally get a full-scale aircraft to fly over
[265.37] Frank: uh in 2019 when I sort of had a quick go at live streaming it we had a
[271.29] Frank: Lancaster flying over us and doing a couple of uh laps around us and that was that was good fun
[277.85] Frank: um, but yeah, it's it's it's a fun event, but then
[282.09] Frank: matt and brady sort of took that to the next level and
[288.41] Frank: Added a whole extra feature to to the affair
[292.73] Stubbsy: Well, that was mainly brady if he was on here, I'm sure he could tell us all about it
[298.89] Stubbsy: He's gone missing so
[301.05] Frank: But you got the money shots. So I i'm going to
[304.81] Frank: If you don't mind i'm going to share
[307.29] Frank: uh one of your videos uh for so that we can talk over it and
[312.17] Frank: Uh, you can explain what was going on
[316.28] Stubbsy: Complete another chaos is pretty much all I can tell you

[327.64] Stubbsy: Obviously, um, I was approached about a week or two before um asked if um
[334.68] Stubbsy: I could do a little bit of fpv chase work during it. Um, literally
[339.48] Stubbsy: The show obviously started on the saturday on the thursday night. Um
[343.88] Stubbsy: I was asked if there any chance that we could stream it. So it was a little bit of a mad
[348.76] Stubbsy: Rush we managed to get brady on board
[351.32] Stubbsy: um
[352.84] Stubbsy: basically, I um
[355.32] Stubbsy: Chased anything that I thought I could basically keep up with
[359.24] Stubbsy: Um, it's just stream the um
[362.04] Stubbsy: Basically stream string from my goggles over the live feed. Um, which was dji, which was
[367.64] Stubbsy: Very interesting to say the least but um, yeah, it was an absolutely brilliant weekend definitely helped by the weather
[374.36] Stubbsy: We had glorious weather
[376.2] Stubbsy: But um, yeah all that takes in all sorts of absolutely huge. Um
[381.8] Stubbsy: Large model association stuff. Um, we had a little media conch all day
[386.6] Stubbsy: um
[388.04] Stubbsy: Or to have a land rapid
[390.12] Stubbsy: Um a couple of turbines obviously what you're seeing at the moment
[394.44] Stubbsy: Back then was a maker mind kids bands. Um
[398.28] Stubbsy: Is a nice big pit special
[402.12] Stubbsy: Um, this was a well and bomber
[405.08] Stubbsy: So I was doing my best not to do the um, oh, what's the film um with the aliens invade
[413.4] Stubbsy: Independence day when you when I could see those bomb bay doors above me
[418.52] Stubbsy: I'll try and go straight up into them
[420.84] Stubbsy: But uh, yeah really good weekend all in all
[424.12] Frank: That's like seems like a very different
[426.6] Frank: uh
[428.12] Frank: Sort of approach from usual that there's you know
[431.56] Frank: A model show with a lot of large models reaching out to the fpv world being like can you come and film this for us?
[438.28] Frank: Um, can you stream this for us and that's um, it feels like it's usually the other way around
[444.6] Stubbsy: Yes, so yeah most certainly um, well literally what happened was obviously i'm in like a couple of bmfa. Um
[451.72] Stubbsy: Clubs over here. Like I said a good maker mind. Uh keith bands, um flew fpv previously
[457.96] Stubbsy: and um was asking me to chase a couple a couple of his models a couple of mates models, um for the local model club
[465.88] Stubbsy: and um obviously steve and um
[469.88] Stubbsy: Susan was there the one day and um asked if I could have a go basically it would spring wings
[475.24] Stubbsy: So that's kind of how it all came about off the cuff to be honest with you
[479.72] Frank: yeah, um
[481.64] Frank: steven sharon who i've known quite a bit through the model squadron stuff and
[486.44] Frank: We've got them flying fpv. So I imagine that sort of helps that they've they've had a bit of
[492.6] Frank: Experience of it. We've flown lots of fpv around them. We've tried chasing their large models
[498.12] Frank: I have I have definitely tried chasing some of steve's models and
[502.12] Frank: They disappear very quickly turns out large models go fast
[506.44] Frank: So did you did you manage to keep up with with them? Did any get away from you?
[512.36] Stubbsy: Oh, yeah a good few of them to be honest with you
[514.76] Stubbsy: Um, like I basically said the steven sharon like my seven inch quad has only got 1300 kv motors. So
[521.48] Stubbsy: 50 60 mile an hour in a cruise
[524.12] Stubbsy: Flat out 70 80. It's not like you're finding tracers. So
[528.2] Stubbsy: I was okay following like the dawn patrol. Um
[531.88] Stubbsy: I know literally from following a few big warbirds and everything
[535.32] Stubbsy: They've had so obviously been going to slow practically out of stores for me to keep up with them
[539.88] Stubbsy: so I was
[541.48] Stubbsy: It was a simple case of really picking and choosing what I could keep up with to be honest with you
[546.28] Stubbsy: Obviously in the land displays when you've got a lot of models
[549.4] Stubbsy: The last thing I wanted to be doing was dragging behind right in the middle of the display box right in the way. So, um
[556.52] Stubbsy: Obviously the saturday morning, um, I spent a lot of time just watching the different
[561.08] Stubbsy: Different displays and kind of thinking right I could keep up with that. No, there's no way i'll keep up with that
[565.72] Stubbsy: I'll just get in the way
[567.48] Stubbsy: um having a chat with the pilots getting up after one or two of them and
[571.56] Stubbsy: Basically by I would say the sunday morning it all came together. I knew I could keep up with who I couldn't
[577.56] Stubbsy: And hence why i'm building a faster seven inch now
[583.48] Frank: Yeah, that seems to be
[585.64] Frank: The experience of everyone that tries chasing anything is like right. I need to build something faster
[591.8] Frank: I think it doesn't matter how many times you've built something faster. You still want something that can go faster
[598.28] Frank: You just want a bit more leeway
[600.92] Stubbsy: Well, the one thing that really shocked me it wasn't upward spring wings, but I managed to chase um, there's a very large hunkle
[608.84] Stubbsy: Travel one that basically does the run
[611.8] Stubbsy: Wood spring wings is really the runway's a little bit too small for it
[615.48] Stubbsy: But I tried to chase in that and obviously with such a big model when you're watching it go pass
[619.56] Stubbsy: I think yeah, i'll keep up with that simple
[621.4] Stubbsy: I don't know but it do this do that when you're actually up with the thing. It's doing about a ton
[625.72] Stubbsy: I literally couldn't keep up with it
[627.8] Stubbsy: Like a blank spiking passes where they quickly get it behind it as soon as you got downwind it was just gone
[633.64] Stubbsy: But that is pretty much
[635.88] Stubbsy: What I found with the majority of it. They look so big you think oh, they're hanging in the air
[640.12] Stubbsy: They barely move and you get up with them and you realize
[643.16] Stubbsy: They shift them
[647.08] Frank: I think jack experienced a bit of that the other day
[650.6] Frank: Uh, we went down the hidden valley
[653.48] Frank: I took my my cub with the uh, the head tracking
[657.32] Frank: um, and I was I was having a
[660.04] Frank: A good fun because he's he's built me a
[663.08] Frank: a 21 700
[665.64] Frank: pack out of the eve
[668.44] Frank: 40 pl 21 700 lions

[673.4] Jack: See i've made the mistake of prepping and like
[677.46] Jack: prefabricating
[679.64] Jack: Some battery holders to make more

[684.2] Jack: I've cursed it by being prepared or ready to go
[688.6] Jack: To make more for your buddy. I have
[691.8] Jack: Made you more
[692.6] Frank: Unfortunately, yeah, the the next shipments of cells has been delivered elsewhere in Brighton
[698.84] Frank: Um, so jack's got to go hunting after the show and get a hold of them
[704.76] Frank: but the um
[706.92] Frank: Yeah, so I was I was um trying out this lion pack that jack's built me
[711.16] Frank: Um on the cub with the the head tracking on it and it was quite a windy day
[717.4] Frank: so when I was going upwind like
[721.24] Frank: I was basically stationary and I imagine
[724.52] Frank: Jack was similarly lulled into a slightly false sense of security when i'm just floating there
[729.72] Frank: yeah, and then
[730.76] Frank: uh
[731.96] Frank: I went to go exploring a little bit and jack
[735.96] Frank: Had some issues jack did not appreciate me me going exploring
[740.68] Jack: Oh the combine harvester of dreams
[743.88] Jack: I haven't looked at my footage yet

[749.24] Frank: Yeah, you you were complaining jack that I disappeared quite quickly
[754.76] Jack: Yeah, I know
[756.28] Jack: You were like a rocket
[758.68] Frank: Which I I would have thought the wind would affect the quad the same as the plane but

[765.96] Frank: Apparently not because I just went downwind and disappeared and
[769.72] Frank: Jack was like you've disappeared then I go back up upwind and jack's overshooting me and it's fine again. So

[780.36] Frank: I thought airspeed was airspeed and it doesn't matter but maybe no
[783.88] Frank: Not only aerodynamics quite quite that much. Yeah
[789.48] Jack: flying house brick
[791.48] Stubbsy: We were very lucky on that weekend that it would the wind speed was pretty flat to be honest with you
[797.24] Stubbsy: So it wasn't too bad. But um, yeah, I know for literally obviously we fly a lot of wings up on the mountain
[804.36] Stubbsy: A flat day is like 10 mile an hour. So if you're doing 10 mile an hour upwinds
[808.84] Stubbsy: You're pretty much floating but downwind you're doing 20
[811.8] Stubbsy: So
[813.16] Stubbsy: Anything fixed when like I'm chasing tracks so on and so forth
[817.24] Stubbsy: I always look for always look for the upwind and get them there
[821.96] Frank: And you'll see in the chat says build a nice fast
[825.32] Frank: fpv plane with head tracking, um
[828.76] Frank: I feel like
[831.0] Frank: but air to air filming of the large models, I feel like
[836.44] Frank: Even the large models are being thrown about a bit by
[840.2] Frank: Sort of you know, the sort of the turbulence in the air and particularly on a sunny day
[845.64] Frank: but
[846.6] Frank: You kind of need a quad and it's
[849.56] Frank: Aerodynamics of a brick to be able to stay smooth. So at least the quad is going smooth
[856.36] Frank: Um, you know if the plane's bumping around a bit, that's fine
[859.72] Frank: But if the plane's bumping around a bit and the landscape around is also bumping around a bit
[864.92] Frank: That would be unpleasant to watch compared to from a quads
[869.4] Stubbsy: Yeah, to be honest with you
[870.76] Stubbsy: Obviously as we all know the stabilization in go pros and obviously like real steady everything have gone that much better but
[878.6] Stubbsy: For actually viewable footage you won't be the quads you won't be the quad for how much as everybody knows I love flying wings
[886.12] Stubbsy: Trying to film from a wing unless it's completely flat calm. It'll just make you sick
[890.92] Stubbsy: It's really fun to fly but they're not very great to watch
[895.64] Stubbsy: Not through the fpv feed anyway
[899.08] Frank: Yeah, unfortunately

[901.96] Frank: how was the
[903.56] Frank: The rest of the show did you get to see much but you just like
[906.84] Frank: Watching the displays all the time and trying to fly behind them or did you get to see some of the show?
[911.4] Stubbsy: Yeah, I got I got to see a good bit of the show to be honest with you
[914.28] Stubbsy: Um, the one thing with the show was literally the amount of slots was basically half a day. So
[920.04] Stubbsy: By the time if I chase stuff in the morning the afternoon slots them were mirrored. So
[926.28] Stubbsy: Sit out the slot or two. Um, so yeah to be honest with you. It was an unbelievably well organized show
[933.32] Stubbsy: They had plenty of second-hand stores there. They were some good traders there
[938.2] Stubbsy: The food was brilliant. I could not get a breakfast. I'm sorry tony to say this but the full breakfast for 12 quid at a show
[945.48] Stubbsy: And I'm not that like
[947.48] Stubbsy: Not bad
[948.92] Stubbsy: I'm, sure they had a couple of mushrooms you've got to chew down there
[952.84] Frank: Just growing in the field, you know, it's quite damp like we said
[956.52] Frank: Look at the grass. I have a bunch of
[959.4] Tony: You've seen the blades of grass through the uh, is it all worth?
[964.68] Frank: Count them exactly
[970.2] Frank: How did you find the evening did you did you camp over there?
[973.8] Stubbsy: Yeah, I can't um, yeah, um, basically, um
[977.64] Stubbsy: I have my little coleman uh coleman like event marking not the big one
[981.56] Stubbsy: I've only got like a little three meter coleman. So like we set everything up under that. Um
[987.16] Stubbsy: I think on the friday night. I had like my old fishing bed here kept under that and
[992.44] Stubbsy: Obviously with a sleeping bag on the saturday night then I literally kept in the back of the car with an air bed
[998.12] Stubbsy: Um, but yeah, it was it was boiling hot the whole weekend mind
[1001.32] Stubbsy: I don't think i've ever drank so much water
[1004.36] Stubbsy: but um
[1006.2] Frank: We saw from your footage. It was just blue sky is the entire time, right? Yeah, it was absolutely baking
[1012.2] Stubbsy: Literally, you're watching everybody there and they were just they were moving with the shade
[1016.12] Stubbsy: It was yeah
[1017.8] Frank: They were having to put out uh posts everywhere that they could be like when you come please bring water
[1023.72] Frank: If you could bring some spare for us, that'd be great
[1026.68] Frank: Put it put it this way

[1030.28] Stubbsy: There was a stand at the far end
[1032.2] Stubbsy: Which is when you see a lot of the shows and normally sells like the the hats the baseball caps and the glasses
[1038.44] Stubbsy: I bet that guy made it kill him
[1041.16] Stubbsy: That's the most profitable shot there that weekend
[1046.28] Frank: Yeah, uh, there was also uh, martin thompson was there with with his stall and the his cheese wedges

[1056.12] Frank: Uh, uh, did he have a slot? Did you there try and chase any other?
[1061.4] Stubbsy: Martin martin had a cracking slot with all the deltas to be fair. I was watching them
[1067.16] Stubbsy: Absolutely pinning it up and down and down the runway. There's no way I would have kept up with him like but um
[1073.24] Stubbsy: Yeah
[1074.44] Stubbsy: They had a real good slot then. Um
[1077.32] Stubbsy: I'm not sure if martin was in fun flight the slot
[1080.28] Stubbsy: I know a few of his
[1081.88] Stubbsy: A few of his team were in that one as well. Like obviously you had the panic team as well
[1086.2] Stubbsy: I was brilliant to watch with all the streamers
[1088.84] Stubbsy: um
[1089.88] Stubbsy: But yeah, it was an absolutely brilliant show literally
[1094.04] Stubbsy: Coming towards the end of like each day or whatever. They obviously put the toffee bomber up for the kids
[1099.72] Stubbsy: One of the guys literally made a big it was all carved out of foam with on an um
[1105.24] Stubbsy: on a bit of a pole
[1106.84] Stubbsy: With a small electric motor up front of it and it was a basically a big flying witch
[1111.88] Stubbsy: And all the kids were going mad when this thing popped up
[1114.2] Stubbsy: You know this big cape and they basically scream and everybody seemed like anybody seen this witch. Everybody was going
[1119.96] Stubbsy: I'm pretty sure they were 30 year old bloke standing next to me screaming. There's a witch
[1126.84] Stubbsy: Which was really good that was good to watch
[1129.56] Stubbsy: Yeah, the brilliant show but definitely i've never seen from model show i've never seen so many families there
[1135.72] Stubbsy: It was a really good weekend to be fair
[1138.6] Stubbsy: It's really good. Yeah
[1140.12] Frank: I I found it very fun. I also remember when I went the evening
[1145.32] Frank: Became very much a kind of open flight line. If you're camping over there, you could just fly what you have with you
[1152.36] Frank: Um, and and that was good fun. It was
[1155.16] Frank: A very friendly event to to go fly at as well
[1159.48] Frank: Um, and also I don't know if they're still doing it. I remember there being a very psychedelic marquee
[1166.14] Frank: Um where there was some live music playing. I don't know if they're still doing that
[1171.34] Stubbsy: No, I don't I don't believe that was there this year
[1174.46] Stubbsy: They did have a little bit of music coming out of basically the big model mark either. Um, yeah
[1179.9] Stubbsy: And it was fly off the peg. I took my um,
[1182.7] Stubbsy: I got basically an extended wing like nano drag boomer, which I can just float around you
[1187.42] Stubbsy: I mean obviously I can open the motor and it'll pull vertical and whatnot
[1191.66] Stubbsy: I was flying everything there. But um, yeah, it was off the peg flying in the evening. That was great fun
[1198.14] Stubbsy: Obviously, like I said, it was boiling hot. It was flat calm
[1200.54] Stubbsy: So come the evening when it was cooling off everybody was having a little fly
[1204.22] Stubbsy: But um, yeah, I gotta be honest that i've been a few shows obviously over the years and
[1210.3] Stubbsy: To be completely honest. I hate to say that's the first time I've ever been to wood springs and it blew me away
[1215.18] Stubbsy: it literally reminded me of the old shows like east nord castle and all of them back in the day that
[1221.74] Stubbsy: It really blew me away for basically a model club. I know it's an anime show
[1226.62] Stubbsy: You know what I mean? But for a model shoot for
[1229.26] Stubbsy: It was getting up on par with some of the bigger shows. Definitely. Definitely. It was a real good weekend
[1235.26] Stubbsy: I basically recommend it to anybody to anybody
[1239.58] Frank: Yeah, they they do a really good job of of having it be a very friendly atmosphere very open atmosphere
[1245.42] Frank: way, you know, it's it's a very welcoming place it's not like uh
[1249.42] Frank: Uh, you know some shows feel very corporate and like they're trying to squeeze you for everything
[1254.46] Frank: Um, or they feel like there's a club
[1257.98] Frank: Having a good day and you're invited to watch but wood springs felt very much like oh, no
[1263.18] Frank: This is an event where everyone's invited to to come along and even if you're not there to fly during the day
[1269.1] Frank: It's still a very good atmosphere and good group of people
[1273.18] Stubbsy: Yeah, you literally it wasn't only model fly in the stores there
[1276.46] Stubbsy: You had a little bit of everything stuff for the women stuff for the kids
[1280.14] Stubbsy: It was a it was a really good weekend to be fair
[1282.62] Tony: Like you asked is it did they do a lot of hovercraft stuff and crawlers and stuff like that? Is that there?
[1290.06] Stubbsy: Yeah, I think in the past they have Andrew aren't they Frank should I say sorry because there's everybody know
[1297.9] Frank: To be honest
[1300.06] Frank: I haven't I hadn't seen it
[1302.06] Stubbsy: Um, or I don't remember it. Have you heard in previous years they have bolts there?
[1306.54] Frank: Um, but yeah is
[1308.54] Frank: I'm I'm very glad to hear that they're they're keen on
[1312.78] Frank: You know building up a bit of a stream as well and sort of spreading the word a bit
[1317.74] Frank: using
[1319.18] Frank: You know what is available?
[1321.9] Stubbsy: Because uh, yeah not being funny like how many years of like
[1325.98] Stubbsy: with
[1327.18] Stubbsy: Basically drone racing at western and I mean we've been there. We've been there at the shows and
[1332.94] Stubbsy: Why haven't they used it?
[1336.22] Stubbsy: It kind of kind of looks right didn't it? You know, I mean literally they love it
[1339.42] Stubbsy: They've never seen the models with the air to air footage
[1342.86] Stubbsy: It's nothing to us. We we're used to seeing that type of footage, but they love it. They absolutely love it
[1348.78] Frank: Especially when you got stuff like the the banner being towed. I mean, that's that is the money shot, right?
[1353.5] Frank: You've got the plane pulling the banner with the name of the event
[1357.34] Frank: In front of the crowd and you're there catching the the shot with the crowd behind it like that is that is a
[1363.34] Frank: absolute money shot
[1365.58] Frank: Events would kill for that sort of shot together
[1369.34] Stubbsy: That was the first flight of the morning that opening scene with the banner and as you can imagine
[1373.5] Stubbsy: I was smiling from year to year
[1377.5] Stubbsy: I got it, but that's the one
[1380.7] Frank: Yeah
[1381.9] Frank: The
[1383.02] Frank: I mean that's that's sort of one side of things. I mean the reason
[1387.66] Frank: I feel like the reason that brady
[1390.38] Frank: Has all the kit to do all the streams and pull the fpv feeds in and do everything with it

[1398.22] Frank: because of
[1399.5] Frank: Um, wrl the wing racing league, right? This is the wing racing basically. Yeah. Yeah

[1407.42] Frank: And you've got an event coming up not too not too far away

[1448.7] Frank: As well is somehow you've found two great clubs that are very welcoming
[1453.98] Frank: Like warm groups of people that invite you along because the valley flyers
[1458.86] Frank: Absolutely lovely bunch of people to to go and hang out in a field with for a weekend

[1465.66] Frank: Highly recommend that anyone that is available that weekend
[1468.7] Frank: And has a wing to of any kind to throw around I would highly recommend going along
[1475.18] Stubbsy: Apparently a wing we'll be flying the seven inch the five inch round there the little flywheel explorers
[1481.18] Stubbsy: basically, you'll have helis there normal conventional stuff and
[1485.5] Stubbsy: We all just basically have a laugh and have a fly around little like I said a little bit of racing in the morning and in

[1492.3] Stubbsy: Check the leds up there in the night and have a fly around look at half ten

[1501.74] Stubbsy: And then normally we all go hunting in the trees for them

[1586.46] Stubbsy: But for us with fpv the hedgerows the holes do I mean in the trees and the gaps to hit?
[1592.14] Stubbsy: It's we love it. It's perfect for us
[1594.54] Stubbsy: For your big we're not going to fly like your big jets there or your quarter scale or third scale stuff, but for fpv is this
[1601.9] Stubbsy: It's brilliant for years. We flew up on top of a barren mountain and
[1605.66] Stubbsy: Now we got like tree gaps and holes like three feet three fields deep there. It's brilliant

[1751.84] Frank: So there's regular breaks in the model flying. Yeah for
[1756.0] Frank: An aircraft to go off to carry a load of parachutists over to the parachute drop zone

[1766.8] Tony: If the if the wind's going the wrong way, yeah, we've had to do that before but mainly mainly yeah, it is it is planes that

[2703.38] Stubbsy: So I know there was a certain um young racer that turned up and had a go of his dad's drone and wasn't even in the race

[2716.98] Frank: He got the pram a little bit
[2719.94] Frank: That doesn't sound like the ftv drone racers at all
[2725.14] Frank: Five inch drone racers throwing their toys out the pram
[2728.9] Stubbsy: That never happens unlikely get a ring racer we'd always give it and kick him in the ring
[2740.72] Frank: It's it's it's because they're so invested in it because you know, yes, that's what it is
[2746.8] Frank: You know when when you've got this competition, everyone's very excited about it. The tempers run high. It's very yeah adrenaline fueled

[2830.61] Stubbsy: So we need to give them a little bit of a ribbon and they love to do the same

[2837.57] Frank: It's all fun and going very mutually supportive in a way that you know
[2841.89] Frank: When when it gets too competitive that's not sort of things not happening
[2847.09] Frank: The stakes are very low

[2860.51] Frank: The whoop racers have a similar
[2863.71] Frank: Even though they have got more competitive and like they are
[2867.47] Frank: Far too competitive for me to consider having a go at them at this point. I feel like but the the whoop racers
[2875.55] Frank: Seem to have managed to retain kind of a very friendly

[2884.19] Frank: Element to it. Like it doesn't feel like it is
[2886.83] Frank: competitive in the atmosphere that's there even if they are being competitive
[2890.83] Stubbsy: There's some fast races in the racing, but yeah, they definitely kind of retain the fun aspect of it
[2897.63] Stubbsy: Definitely with the courses where there's a hell of a camaraderie with them to be honest with you when you're doing a little bit of it
